- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Rider, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Van Halen was one of the greatest rock bands of the 1970s and 80s.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Although they had a number of popular songs and albums, they're probably best remembered for their song Jump, which was featured on what was arguably their best album, 1984.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Now, the song is great for many reasons, including its catchy lyrics, great drum fills, and of course, Eddie Van Halen's amazing guitar licks.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: But who could forget the music video for Jump, which featured the band running around on stage in spandex and massive early 80s hairstyles?
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: You know, the word jump is not just a great title for a popular rock song, it's also great advice as you consider your next step to success in your writing life.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: As you're considering that next project or that next step, you're probably dreading it a little bit.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: You're not sure how you're going to get it done, you feel intimidated or even a little bit scared.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: But one of the defining qualities of successful people, no matter what their industry is, is that they take action now and they figure it out as they go along.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: The famous science fiction writer Ray Bradbury once said, first you jump off the cliff and you grow your wings on the way down.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: So don't wait around doing analysis for the next six months.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Figure out your next step and take it in the next 24 hours.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: The forward momentum will really energize you.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: And six months from now, you'll be amazed at your progress if you keep on taking that leap, knowing that you'll figure it out as you go along.
