- 0:06Satan is to us a symbol rather than an anthropomorphic being.
- 0:13Although many members of the Church of Satan who are
- 0:17mystically inclined would prefer to think of Satan in a very real
- 0:23anthropomorphic way. Of course we do not discourage
- 0:27this because we realized that to many individuals a picture, a
- 0:33well wrought picture of their their mentor or their tutelary
- 0:39divinity is very important for them to conceptualize
- 0:43ritualistically. However, Satan symbolically is
- 0:49the teacher, the informer of the whys and the wherefores of the
- 0:57world. And in answer to those who would
- 1:03label us devil worshippers or be very quick to assume us to be
- 1:09Satan worshippers, I must say that Satan demands study, not
- 1:14worship in its truest symbology. We do not grovel.
- 1:19We do not get down on our knees, genuflect and worship Satan.
- 1:23We do not plead, we do not implore that Satan give us what
- 1:27we wish. We feel that anyone who is going
- 1:30to be blessed by any God of his choice is going to have to show
- 1:37that God that he is capable of taking care of the blessings
- 1:41that are received. The Church of Satan is an
- 1:44organization which is comprised of Satanists who, because of
- 1:49their abilities and lifestyles and on the stressedest
- 1:53lifestyles reflect a higher than average human potential.
- 1:58Through this Ave., the Church of Satan, the Satanist will become
- 2:03the prototype for a more rational, certainly more finely
- 2:07tuned society. The stress has been on nude
- 2:11altars. The nude altar is an integral
- 2:14part of the Satanic surface, and with good reason.
- 2:19The nude altar represents man's fleshly heritage, the very
- 2:25earth, the mother, the the womb from whence became.
- 2:30And we feel that there's nothing bawdy, there's nothing like
- 2:33Sanchez, nothing lewd about the nude who is employed for an
- 2:38awful a nude woman. We also feel that there's
- 2:41nothing wrong with baudiness, with licentiousness, or with any
- 2:45type of sexual activity. But we feel as though the ritual
- 2:48chamber is no place for either overtly or covertly.
- 2:54And there's no need to be surreptitious in our ritual
- 3:00insofar sexual pre elections are concerned now.
- 3:04For centuries both churchmen and laymen have been defining the
- 3:07devil according to their needs, all the while playing the game
- 3:11of muzzling the enemy. They've been inventing the rules
- 3:15of how devils should behave, how Satanists should behave, how
- 3:18devil worshippers should act. And they have been in an
- 3:22authoritative position to do this because naturally, they are
- 3:26the man of God. They are the man of the church.
- 3:28Supposedly they are the men who've been doing battle with
- 3:31this devil and then absolving their parishioners of these
- 3:35devils promptings. In this manner, have they
- 3:39maintained a convenient means by which to escape the blame for
- 3:42their inadequacies or indiscretions?
- 3:46The devil made me do it has long been a stock alibi.
- 3:52Once it held, it held very firm. Now, fortunately, fortunately
- 3:59for us, it has become ludicrous to say the devil made me do it.
- 4:06Yet many, while laughing, still play the old game of self deceit
- 4:10and blame the devil in one way or another.
- 4:13So the old game is still going on.
- 4:16This is made amply clear, and, of all places, the very world of
- 4:19the occult. Witches who held the Devil's
- 4:23name for centuries now refute Satanism with a passion,
- 4:29employing it as the other side of the fence which they are most
- 4:33certainly not. All manner of occultists, from
- 4:36ESP researchers to faith healers, denounced Satanists as
- 4:40worthless, meaningless, dangerous, ad nauseum.
- 4:46But never is there to be found a positive adjective about
- 4:48Satanists. We Satanists only smile at such
- 4:52transparencies because they are transparent opinions.
- 4:56Their motivations are most clear.
- 5:00It shows that even those who now claim emancipation from
- 5:04inquisitors need devils themselves in order to make
- 5:08their art more palatable to others.
- 5:11Ironically, the masters of the world have always been
- 5:15Satanists. The masters of magic have always
- 5:18practiced satanic magic, that is to say, magic without the
- 5:23trappings of self deceit. Because self deceit is always an
- 5:28inhibiting factor in the ultimate success of a magical
- 5:33right. The great Devil's advocates of
- 5:36the past. Friedrich Nietzsche, Mark Twain,
- 5:41Herbert Spencer, HG Wells, Shaw, Fierce, all of them.
- 5:47They were able to hold a looking glass up to man.
- 5:50But man, momentarily viewing his self deceit upon reading the
- 5:55works of these people, could quickly avert his gaze and find
- 5:59Solace and his spurious rule books.
- 6:01The time for an organization of devils was not yet ready when
- 6:06these devil's advocates existed, for only a strong, organized
- 6:12movement could force the mirror of self, revealing before the
- 6:15world's eyes and hold it there. And this is what we wish to do,
- 6:22hold that mirror. It has been said, the most
- 6:26powerful thing in the world is an idea whose time has come
- 6:29round. The idea that the enemy might
- 6:32conceivably have something worthwhile to say is now with
- 6:36us. In fact, Is that demon within
- 6:39each of us really an enemy, as we have so long been taught, or
- 6:45will it be recognized as the guiding spirit of enlightenment
- 6:49that it really is? We must remember the word demon
- 6:54does not imply evil, but simply a guiding spirit, a motivating
- 7:00spirit. Man must quit kidding himself
- 7:05only when he emancipates himself from dubious interpretations of
- 7:09good and evil. When he truly can rise above
- 7:13good, beyond good and evil, realizing that these terms are
- 7:18probably the most relative terms in man's existence.
- 7:24When he can accept the long obscene name of Satan, because
- 7:29that is a dirty word, Satan. The occult world seems to find
- 7:34it even more so When he can accept this word, this name,
- 7:39into his vocabulary as a sound to be honored.
- 7:44Then he will be free. Until then, he will walk in fear
- 7:50of the very scapegoat he has created, and his potential guide
- 7:57will remain his nemesis. And how would Satanism help you
- 8:01to rise to a higher mental level?
- 8:03Satanism allows us to recognize and to realize our own
- 8:10potential. This is what I would call the
- 8:12balance factor to realize that man is not created equal, each
- 8:18according to his own opportunity.
- 8:22Natural ability must make the most of what he has.
- 8:25But he must also realize that he can't force cons into his
- 8:28computer that will not be programmed.
- 8:31It will be rejected. And he must, as a Satanist,
- 8:37knowing this, realizing what his human potential is, eventually,
- 8:42and here is one of the essential points of Satanism, attain his
- 8:47own Godhead in accordance with his own potential.
- 8:52Therefore, each man, each woman, is a God or goddess or Satanism,
- 8:58but must never make the mistake of assuming that there may not
- 9:02be another God or another goddess next door that may be a
- 9:06little stronger than he or she. We feel that Satanism is a
- 9:10religion of life rather than death.
- 9:12I can't understand why some of our detractors seem so impelled
- 9:20or compelled to establish Satanism as a religion of death,
- 9:24because nothing could be better from the truth.
- 9:26Satanism believes that we should live this life to the fullest,
- 9:31get every drop of enjoyment from this life.
- 9:34We believe this is the best of all known possible worlds, and
- 9:38if there is a better one then it will be Satanists or satanically
- 9:41inspired scientists who find it. And we feel that life is the
- 9:48great indulgence and death is the great abstinence.
- 9:51I've made this very clear, The Satanic Bible.
- 9:53And yet there are still many who will say Satanism is death
- 9:57worship. So you might say this is a
- 9:59gateway to new and more vigorous life for the individual who
- 10:03might be struggling under the burden of depression.
- 10:09The greatest misconception about Satanists is the human sacrifice
- 10:12thing. They seem to overlook the fact
- 10:15that a curse can be thrown without any blood being shed on
- 10:20the part of the magician and or a victim that the magician would
- 10:25choose. The Satanist accepts human life
- 10:31as a very precious thing, albeit wasted on some individuals, and
- 10:38we feel that there is nothing inherently wrong with anyone who
- 10:44just lives and allows others to live according to their own
- 10:49dictates. But nevertheless, curses have to
- 10:52be thrown. Curse is a symbolic act.
- 10:56This means that it gives vent to one's anger, one's emotions, and
- 11:02if it is directed properly towards the victim, the victim
- 11:09then suffers accordingly. This is the power of ceremonial
- 11:13magic.
