- 0:44Speaker 4: Is a funny bitch.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Let's get her in here. Let's do it. Welcome Riley.
- 0:50Speaker 3: That's cute, too long, fuck ages because we did it
- 0:56Speaker 3: over zoom.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Yeah, because we've been in person.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Yeah, but were so excited to have you on and
- 1:07Speaker 3: get into the chat. But before we do get started,
- 1:10Speaker 3: we like to start with a life lesson of the week.
- 1:11Speaker 2: So what have you got for us?
- 1:13Speaker 6: Okay, my life listen of the week is Okay, I
- 1:17Speaker 6: have to do a bit of context here. I was
- 1:20Speaker 6: on a run and the car was really close and
- 1:23Speaker 6: my I was doing like timing runs, so I had
- 1:27Speaker 6: like ten seconds lift.
- 1:28Speaker 2: And I was like, I can make it back to
- 1:29Speaker 2: the car.
- 1:30Speaker 6: And I was about twenty seconds, twenty secondsleef make it
- 1:32Speaker 6: back to the car, and I started gunning for it,
- 1:34Speaker 6: and then I was like, nah, it's too far. Pull back,
- 1:37Speaker 6: pull back, And then I started going again, and I
- 1:39Speaker 6: fully could have made it if I just keep going.
- 1:43Speaker 6: Week it's just like, just don't give up.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Actually push in that little bit, yeah, because you actually
- 1:50Speaker 2: can do it.
- 1:51Speaker 3: It's just getting into that little window of discomfort.
- 1:53Speaker 4: That's just the GST. Yeah. Yeah, I love that. What's yours?
- 2:00Speaker 2: Okay?
- 2:00Speaker 4: Mine?
- 2:01Speaker 2: Is a wholesome little quote that I heard.
- 2:03Speaker 3: On a podcast this week, and it's that if let's
- 2:06Speaker 3: say that you're bad at maths but you're good at art,
- 2:10Speaker 3: don't get a maths tutor, enroll in art lessons, so
- 2:15Speaker 3: nurture the things that you were naturally good at, rather
- 2:18Speaker 3: than trying to force yourself into things that maybe don't
- 2:22Speaker 3: come naturally to you but you feel like you have
- 2:25Speaker 3: to be good at.
- 2:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I love that. I actually heard recently.
- 2:29Speaker 6: I was on set for something and a one of
- 2:32Speaker 6: the hairstyles was talking to me because she was tutoring
- 2:34Speaker 6: some like younger like first entry level here like that
- 2:38Speaker 6: was super like super young success or. And she said,
- 2:42Speaker 6: I said, does everyone that enroll do they all have
- 2:46Speaker 6: like a bit of a natural knack for it, you
- 2:47Speaker 6: know how? Like some people just grew up like braiding
- 2:50Speaker 6: this it's just here And she was like no, and
- 2:52Speaker 6: then there's some people that just like stick at it
- 2:55Speaker 6: for years and then it takes them so long to
- 2:57Speaker 6: get like the most simple task just because it's not
- 3:00Speaker 6: the natural.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Thing that they can do.
- 3:02Speaker 6: So it's that and she just wishes she could say,
- 3:04Speaker 6: like pick something else, because you're going to be.
- 3:06Speaker 2: So good at something else. Honestly, what's your life lesson?
- 3:09Speaker 5: My life lesson of the week is to watch the
- 3:13Speaker 5: show that everyone tells you you need to watch, because
- 3:16Speaker 5: I'm so ashamed to say that I've gotten to my
- 3:18Speaker 5: twenty ninth year of life and I'd only just watch
- 3:21Speaker 5: Kath and Kim.
- 3:24Speaker 6: Yeah are yeah, I grew up because it was on
- 3:27Speaker 6: TV right, so it was just like on all the time.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Never watched it, not even one episode.
- 3:33Speaker 2: So you wouldn't have like understood any of the little
- 3:35Speaker 2: memes and all the rest.
- 3:38Speaker 5: I would get some of it because I feel like
- 3:41Speaker 5: they've been viral, like little bits and bobs that you
- 3:43Speaker 5: just get it. Like if someone's like, oh, you know
- 3:45Speaker 5: it's it's unusual, you'd be like, yeah, it'skathin Kim or whatever.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Look more like you just knew that was Kath and Kim.
- 3:50Speaker 5: But I never understood the heart felt link us Australians
- 3:54Speaker 5: have Kath and Kim and anyway, so I watched all
- 3:58Speaker 5: four seasons and I'm in mourning because I miss them,
- 4:02Speaker 5: and it truly was an educational experience of my life.
- 4:06Speaker 4: So my life lesson is.
- 4:07Speaker 5: To watch the show that everyone says to watch because
- 4:11Speaker 5: it's worth watching.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Yeah, honestly, especially.
- 4:21Speaker 2: So Riley.
- 4:22Speaker 3: You absolutely radiate confidence online but also in person, and
- 4:27Speaker 3: that is something that we definitely look up to you for.
- 4:30Speaker 2: But what is that journey being like for you?
- 4:31Speaker 3: Can you give us a bit of a behind the
- 4:33Speaker 3: scenes of how you got there?
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:36Speaker 6: I was talking to someone recently about this actually, and
- 4:40Speaker 6: I feel like, obviously throughout my life, I have days
- 4:43Speaker 6: where I feel this confident and like moments or things
- 4:45Speaker 6: will happen and I you know, that knocks my confidence back,
- 4:48Speaker 6: whether it's body confidence or just confidence. And you know,
- 4:51Speaker 6: like I studied paramedicine doing that, like I failed a
- 4:53Speaker 6: paper once like that. Not my confidence back, I definitely
- 4:57Speaker 6: like it comes and goes depending on the vibes at
- 4:59Speaker 6: the ti time. But like in terms of body confidence,
- 5:03Speaker 6: I've kind of just like always had it there, but
- 5:08Speaker 6: I knew that there was always that pressure to like,
- 5:10Speaker 6: you know, lose weight or look a certain way and
- 5:13Speaker 6: be this way because then boys will like you and
- 5:15Speaker 6: you'll be successful if you look like this. I always
- 5:18Speaker 6: had that pressure and so I was aware of that
- 5:21Speaker 6: all the time. But I think my whole life, I've
- 5:25Speaker 6: never let my confidence or like my body stop me
- 5:29Speaker 6: from doing the things I want to do. And I
- 5:31Speaker 6: think that's the key, Like I'm never going to get
- 5:32Speaker 6: to a point where I'm like, I'm going to be
- 5:34Speaker 6: confident every single day forever and ever done.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and I've done that on to the next thing.
- 5:40Speaker 6: Yeah, Like it's not like that, but I just I
- 5:44Speaker 6: promise myself that I'm just never gonna let that stop
- 5:47Speaker 6: me from doing something, whether it's I don't know, taking
- 5:50Speaker 6: the photo on the day where you feel like shit
- 5:51Speaker 6: and then you look back on it in like a
- 5:52Speaker 6: year's time and you.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Looks like it's wild.
- 5:57Speaker 6: So yeah, I think especially with age, like I'm I
- 6:00Speaker 6: just turned twenty nine almost, I'm like.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Yeah, terrifying.
- 6:04Speaker 6: I just feel like I look back on memories often
- 6:08Speaker 6: and I'm just like, oh, imagine if I hadn't have
- 6:10Speaker 6: done that or whatever.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:12Speaker 6: I think confidence will always come and go, but you've
- 6:15Speaker 6: just got to like stick with it and know that
- 6:18Speaker 6: you have won life and don't let anything stops you
- 6:21Speaker 6: and what you want to do.
- 6:22Speaker 5: I think that's a good way to look at it
- 6:23Speaker 5: as well, because you know how there's like the positive
- 6:26Speaker 5: way of being. Like you know when you've got a
- 6:28Speaker 5: really fucking good outfit and you're like, yeah, this hits
- 6:31Speaker 5: this slabs and you're walking around like on water cookie
- 6:34Speaker 5: it do or off its hinges. But you know, when
- 6:36Speaker 5: you plan the outfit in your head and it's supposed
- 6:38Speaker 5: to look really good and then you put it on,
- 6:40Speaker 5: you're like fuck yeah, And I feel like nothing knocks
- 6:42Speaker 5: your confidence more than that when the outfit you're planned
- 6:44Speaker 5: in your head doesn't line up to like the mysim's version, yeah,
- 6:49Speaker 5: and you're like.
- 6:49Speaker 6: You're standing in your room, yeah yeah, and as much
- 6:53Speaker 6: as we want to say how we look doesn't tap
- 6:56Speaker 6: into our confidence.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Like when that happens, it feels like self sabotage.
- 6:59Speaker 5: How do you like pull your brain out of that
- 7:02Speaker 5: and be like, fuck this, I'm gonna be confident.
- 7:05Speaker 6: Well, I think, first of all, confidence does come from within,
- 7:08Speaker 6: because like on that note, it's all like relative to
- 7:12Speaker 6: how you think. Right, someone else could see that outfit
- 7:14Speaker 6: and be like that is the fucking coolest outfit I've
- 7:16Speaker 6: ever seen, and like, who are you doing it for?
- 7:19Speaker 2: Like other people or you? So I think like you
- 7:23Speaker 2: can look.
- 7:23Speaker 6: Confident at confident and feel confident and show that and
- 7:28Speaker 6: push through that like feeling of oh my god, I
- 7:30Speaker 6: look like shit, do you?
- 7:32Speaker 2: Or like is that all in your head?
- 7:33Speaker 3: Do you?
- 7:33Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 7:34Speaker 6: And also I think like at that moment, let's see,
- 7:37Speaker 6: you're standing in front of your mirror, you feel like shit,
- 7:39Speaker 6: outfit hasn't worked whatever it is. You have two choices, right,
- 7:42Speaker 6: I mean three, find a different outfit and look better,
- 7:48Speaker 6: or if you have to stand this outfit, you either
- 7:50Speaker 6: have a shit time and then you're actually like self sabotaging.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And ruining even more. You're the only one who.
- 7:55Speaker 6: Is like going to be affected by it or yeah,
- 7:58Speaker 6: you just get on with it and have night and then,
- 8:00Speaker 6: like I said, you're gonna look back at it in
- 8:02Speaker 6: a year's time and think you look fucking good, Like realistically.
- 8:05Speaker 5: Yeah, you're My favorite thing is I was watching I
- 8:08Speaker 5: think it was like a hale. You were showing some
- 8:10Speaker 5: outfits and in it you're like, you're gonna hate this.
- 8:13Speaker 2: You like to the game and you're like, you're not.
- 8:15Speaker 5: Gonna like it.
- 8:16Speaker 4: I guess what I really do, and that's what matters.
- 8:20Speaker 6: I'm just like, especially some of my fashion choices, like
- 8:23Speaker 6: I like to experiment, and I think that's why fashion
- 8:26Speaker 6: is so fun, because like you put the funny shoes
- 8:29Speaker 6: on that everyone hates, and at the end of the day,
- 8:30Speaker 6: he said, what they come off and we've all got
- 8:32Speaker 6: bare feet.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Or sock some bit, do you know what I mean? Like,
- 8:34Speaker 2: it's it's just clothes.
- 8:36Speaker 6: Like if you want to try something, just do it.
- 8:39Speaker 6: It's coming off, and like whatever, if you decide you
- 8:41Speaker 6: don't like it after wear it once, I mean, not
- 8:43Speaker 6: great for the environment, and we don't con in doing that,
- 8:45Speaker 6: but then wear something else.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Like you give it a shot. It's it's just clothes.
- 8:49Speaker 2: It's not that serious.
- 8:51Speaker 6: And so when I decide to, you know, like pick
- 8:53Speaker 6: something up or show it in a hall on TikTok,
- 8:56Speaker 6: like I already know the people that get it and
- 8:59Speaker 6: the people that don't and the people.
- 9:01Speaker 4: That don't care.
- 9:02Speaker 5: Yeah, like it might like I get it, yeah exactly,
- 9:06Speaker 5: but I might not wear it, but I love That
- 9:09Speaker 5: sounds so condescending.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I might not, but I love that you do.
- 9:14Speaker 5: So yeah, I have been like they understand free will. Yeah,
- 9:22Speaker 5: and that's like where confidence comes from, especially I think
- 9:26Speaker 5: with fashion and playing around free will.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Yeah. Honestly, have you always been like that or do
- 9:31Speaker 3: you feel like that's taken time to have that confidence
- 9:34Speaker 3: and self assurance?
- 9:35Speaker 2: Like, well fuck it if nobody else likes.
- 9:36Speaker 4: It, I like it, and I'm comfortable because.
- 9:38Speaker 2: You have some iconic looks. Rightly, Oh thank you.
- 9:41Speaker 6: I feel like I've always had it, like, especially growing
- 9:44Speaker 6: up being the bigger friend. I would always have to
- 9:47Speaker 6: like have Mum like sew me up something for an
- 9:49Speaker 6: of vin or like I was wearing like a skirt
- 9:51Speaker 6: as a top, Like I was always doing different things,
- 9:53Speaker 6: and I always remember like I have never liked to
- 9:56Speaker 6: blend in like on mufty days at school, like I
- 9:59Speaker 6: will be playing my foot and I'll make sure it's
- 10:01Speaker 6: like something different, like I don't want to blend them.
- 10:04Speaker 6: So I think that's kind of been something that has
- 10:07Speaker 6: repeated itself throughout my life. But I do think that
- 10:11Speaker 6: in the last couple of years, I can look back
- 10:13Speaker 6: on things like a year ago and be like, I'd
- 10:18Speaker 6: still wear that, whereas when I was younger, like I'll
- 10:20Speaker 6: look back on things and be like, oh, she gave
- 10:24Speaker 6: it a go.
- 10:25Speaker 5: Yeah. When I look back though on things that I'm like, oh,
- 10:30Speaker 5: I can always like, nine times out of ten, I
- 10:32Speaker 5: think I was wearing that for someone else. Like if
- 10:34Speaker 5: I look back on something that I'm like, that's the choice.
- 10:38Speaker 5: I think it's because I was following what was cool
- 10:41Speaker 5: a yeah, or what I thought like I should wear,
- 10:44Speaker 5: or I was dressing for other people to get to
- 10:47Speaker 5: get confidence, which is like low quality confidence yeah right,
- 10:51Speaker 5: rather than for my own.
- 10:53Speaker 4: Whereas now I think and you guys will get this.
- 10:55Speaker 5: As we get older, we experiment and we play with
- 10:58Speaker 5: more that I'm like, if I'm reaping cowboy boots, no
- 11:01Speaker 5: one can touch me and untouchable.
- 11:03Speaker 6: You're just more like self assured, hey, like you know
- 11:05Speaker 6: who you are and like, yeah, if someone doesn't like
- 11:08Speaker 6: what you're wearing, You're like, well, I'm still me, and
- 11:10Speaker 6: like you can hate my boots, but you can't not
- 11:17Speaker 6: the cowboy birds allegal cowboy bears, not like cowboy boots honestly.
- 11:25Speaker 2: So we've kind of already touched on it lightly.
- 11:28Speaker 5: But you've been very open about your journey with body image.
- 11:31Speaker 5: What pivotal moments help you shift from focusing about changing
- 11:36Speaker 5: the way you look or losing weight to self worth.
- 11:38Speaker 6: I think there was definitely a moment there where I
- 11:42Speaker 6: had my Instagram going and I lost a bunch of weight,
- 11:44Speaker 6: and I kind of got to a point where I mean,
- 11:46Speaker 6: I don't think I've ever been skinny in my life,
- 11:48Speaker 6: Like I literally have been like a bigger girl my
- 11:50Speaker 6: entire life, so I don't actually know what it's like
- 11:52Speaker 6: to be skinny, but I was definitely skinny for me,
- 11:55Speaker 6: and I kind of got to that point and I
- 11:56Speaker 6: remember like looking at photos and being like, oh, like
- 11:58Speaker 6: why did I.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Think my entire life going to change when I like
- 12:01Speaker 2: look different?
- 12:02Speaker 6: So I think that was definitely a moment, But my
- 12:05Speaker 6: whole life I've just kind of like been you know,
- 12:07Speaker 6: I'll jump on that weight loss thing and growing up
- 12:10Speaker 6: that was just the vibe. I feel like it wasn't
- 12:13Speaker 6: until that point when I did that whole like you know,
- 12:16Speaker 6: get to that point where finally, I guess like if
- 12:19Speaker 6: you can relate to that and you've like tried to
- 12:21Speaker 6: kind of yo yo diet your whole life and like
- 12:23Speaker 6: finally lose weight, that that was a point where I
- 12:26Speaker 6: was like, oh hmm, okay, like still me, life is life,
- 12:31Speaker 6: and like I'm just gonna kind of look after my
- 12:33Speaker 6: body no matter what I look like, and it's not
- 12:35Speaker 6: about what I look like, but also like I can
- 12:39Speaker 6: look good at any size. I think like that was
- 12:41Speaker 6: for It's not so much about like going you know,
- 12:45Speaker 6: I'm just gonna like I don't have to look like
- 12:48Speaker 6: I don't have to look a certain way.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I can look whatever. Like I can also look great
- 12:52Speaker 2: at a size.
- 12:52Speaker 6: Eighteen and whatever size I was when I lost the weight,
- 12:55Speaker 6: And it's just that era of your life. Like often
- 12:59Speaker 6: people all in love with like you know, pilates and
- 13:02Speaker 6: get into that and they might tone up or lose
- 13:04Speaker 6: weight without actually trying to and that's just the error
- 13:07Speaker 6: of their life. And then find a new partner. You
- 13:09Speaker 6: do the you know, going out for dinner dates all
- 13:11Speaker 6: the time, and it's just that eerror of your life
- 13:13Speaker 6: where you might put on a bit more weight. And
- 13:15Speaker 6: I just think, like, if we focus so much on
- 13:17Speaker 6: how our body looks all the time, it's exhausting, Like
- 13:21Speaker 6: it literally is so exhausting. So yeah, I think there's
- 13:24Speaker 6: definitely points in my life where I've gone like, oh,
- 13:27Speaker 6: like little light bulb moments. But I think I'm always
- 13:31Speaker 6: going to have that in my brain. I'm never going
- 13:34Speaker 6: to get to a point where I'm not like, oh,
- 13:36Speaker 6: you know, I don't look at my body a certain
- 13:38Speaker 6: way or it's just as what it is. I'm a
- 13:41Speaker 6: bigger girl. Of course society is gonna look at me
- 13:43Speaker 6: some type of way. But yeah, I just I don't know.
- 13:46Speaker 6: I think I'm just like, fuck it, I've.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Got one life, one life.
- 13:52Speaker 6: I'm not gonna not do stuff because of the way
- 13:55Speaker 6: that society thinks I should should and shouldn't look.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Exactly, And especially as we're and like I'm already in
- 14:01Speaker 3: my thirties, you guys are in your late twenties. Like
- 14:04Speaker 3: that pressure to look a certain way only gets more
- 14:06Speaker 3: and more difficult to reckon with as you grow older.
- 14:09Speaker 5: I think it's a slippery slope, like a bit different.
- 14:13Speaker 5: But like I started getting lip filler when I was
- 14:15Speaker 5: like eighteen and one, Like I've spoken about this before,
- 14:19Speaker 5: and I'm like, eighteen year old.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Should absolutely not be able to get lip filler.
- 14:22Speaker 5: Because I just went down like the biggest train of
- 14:26Speaker 5: like that's not enough. Now I've got to get this,
- 14:29Speaker 5: and I'm now going to get this. I looked like
- 14:31Speaker 5: handsome squid.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Word like it was a couple of months was fucked.
- 14:37Speaker 5: I had pointy cheeks, bro Like I looked like malefison
- 14:41Speaker 5: and not in a cundy way, like it was like
- 14:46Speaker 5: an angel, but like it was scary, and like what's
- 14:52Speaker 5: worse is that I look at those photos.
- 14:54Speaker 4: And I'm like who is that? Like who is that?
- 14:57Speaker 5: Because genuinely, you just stop seeing yourself, like it's like
- 15:03Speaker 5: you're hiding behind this thing.
- 15:04Speaker 4: And I truly thought once I was.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Pretty, I would be confident, and it was like this
- 15:11Speaker 5: thing that I never ever got confident until I dissolved
- 15:15Speaker 5: all of it and I was like, oh, I'm good,
- 15:18Speaker 5: and like now I have like I have botox and
- 15:20Speaker 5: a little bit of it filler now and stuff like that.
- 15:23Speaker 5: But going down and having that journey, which I think
- 15:27Speaker 5: when you said the light bulb moments, I just related
- 15:30Speaker 5: to you, and you still have moments like I'll still the
- 15:32Speaker 5: moments where I'm like, I.
- 15:35Speaker 6: See she was so many Like we're constantly consuming hey,
- 15:38Speaker 6: like scroll got like something done?
- 15:43Speaker 5: No? Maybe, like I always constantly have to check myself
- 15:51Speaker 5: with stuff like that.
- 15:52Speaker 4: And I kind of like what you're saying. I don't
- 15:54Speaker 4: ever think it's like, oh, done, because the world would
- 15:58Speaker 4: go into.
- 15:58Speaker 5: The pits because I'd be like, how will we get
- 16:00Speaker 5: women to shop here.
- 16:02Speaker 2: If they're confident?
- 16:03Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 16:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so true.
- 16:06Speaker 3: But I think knowing that and almost using that as
- 16:08Speaker 3: a form of rebellion, yeah, because that can give you
- 16:11Speaker 3: the fire to be like, fuck you, I'm just going
- 16:12Speaker 3: to do whatever I want.
- 16:13Speaker 2: And something that I absolutely love.
- 16:15Speaker 3: That you said is that you can look beautiful and
- 16:18Speaker 3: cool no matter what size you are or no matter
- 16:21Speaker 3: how you look, really, and it is about that confidence
- 16:25Speaker 3: and giving yourself permission and the free will to play
- 16:27Speaker 3: with style. Do you have any tips for anybody out there,
- 16:31Speaker 3: regardless of what they look like, but who thinks like
- 16:34Speaker 3: I can't wear that until I look like this, but
- 16:37Speaker 3: they want to play with their style?
- 16:39Speaker 6: Yeah, I think you obviously, like in order to feel confident,
- 16:44Speaker 6: you also have to look good to you, Like what
- 16:46Speaker 6: we're saying, on those days where you put an outfit on,
- 16:48Speaker 6: you're just like I actually can't even bear this. Then
- 16:52Speaker 6: you're gonna have to really like push yourself through that.
- 16:56Speaker 6: So I think, like find that comfort zone and just
- 17:00Speaker 6: push that little bit outside of it. Like I know
- 17:02Speaker 6: some people, I see tiktoks all the time about you know,
- 17:05Speaker 6: outfits to hide your arms, Like lots of people have
- 17:09Speaker 6: insecurities about their arms, and people come up with great
- 17:11Speaker 6: ideas to like ease people, and like, you know, you
- 17:13Speaker 6: can wear like those little I mean, I've got a
- 17:16Speaker 6: cardi on today, Like there's ways just push outside your
- 17:21Speaker 6: comfort zone. But then just remember, like you're gonna you
- 17:24Speaker 6: can wear something else tomorrow that makes you feel more confident,
- 17:27Speaker 6: Like just.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Do it, try and push through the day, see how
- 17:31Speaker 2: you feel.
- 17:31Speaker 6: Another thing is like being around people that are supportive
- 17:34Speaker 6: and like choose your moment. If you want to experiment
- 17:36Speaker 6: when you're going out with the friends that make you
- 17:38Speaker 6: feel the best, do it there, yeah, or like wear
- 17:41Speaker 6: it around the house, like take pics in the mirror,
- 17:44Speaker 6: practice your poses at home before you go out and
- 17:46Speaker 6: take pecks like.
- 17:46Speaker 4: I do that. Yeah, you have to come in the left.
- 17:49Speaker 2: I'll be like, that's the one I say. Just give
- 17:51Speaker 2: it a go, push it outside that little comfort zone.
- 17:53Speaker 6: It's just clothes, it's just make up, it's just fashion. Whatever,
- 17:57Speaker 6: take it off at the end of the day.
- 17:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:58Speaker 5: And I also read this once and it was like,
- 18:00Speaker 5: you're not a bad feminist, but not feeling confident either.
- 18:04Speaker 4: Like sometimes I think we get in our heads because
- 18:07Speaker 4: we are so supportive.
- 18:08Speaker 5: Of other women that when we're applying it to ourselves,
- 18:10Speaker 5: we're like, fucking my failure. Like if you feel self
- 18:12Speaker 5: conscious about wearing your arms out and you're like, but
- 18:15Speaker 5: you would never see that on someone else, you can
- 18:17Speaker 5: kind of internalize that a bit and be like, oh,
- 18:18Speaker 5: I'm a bad feminist or I'm not body positive.
- 18:20Speaker 4: Or anything like that.
- 18:21Speaker 5: I like that tip because it's like it's okay, you
- 18:23Speaker 5: don't have to be at the end results straight away.
- 18:26Speaker 6: No, and like you can beat the end result on
- 18:29Speaker 6: one day and then the next day you're not going to.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Be like it's yeah, it's a whole thing.
- 18:33Speaker 6: And I also think so many of us think people
- 18:37Speaker 6: think things about us when they don't. Like it's like
- 18:39Speaker 6: when you think, oh my god, that person's looking at
- 18:41Speaker 6: me this way. Like I have a real like anxiety
- 18:44Speaker 6: with the gym, Like I don't like going by myself,
- 18:47Speaker 6: like I liked it once I'm in there, I'm fine,
- 18:48Speaker 6: but it's just like getting in.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Getting it and I can't do it, but I'd rather go.
- 18:53Speaker 6: And so I I always like the other day I
- 18:56Speaker 6: see to him. I was like, like, the big gimman
- 18:59Speaker 6: are gonna think I'm fair and ugly? And he was like,
- 19:02Speaker 6: they haven't said there and they're probably not even thinking it,
- 19:04Speaker 6: like you have made that up about them. So like
- 19:06Speaker 6: obviously I was having like a you know, low body
- 19:08Speaker 6: confidence day or whatever it is, and I was like, wait, yeah,
- 19:12Speaker 6: like I've literally made that up, like I am the
- 19:14Speaker 6: problem here. Yeah, Like it's actually not someone else saying it.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Yeah, so no one cares as much as you do.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Yeah, And you did touch on it briefly before, But
- 19:24Speaker 3: you transition from being working as a paramedic into doing
- 19:28Speaker 3: content creation full time and then launching several successful small
- 19:32Speaker 3: businesses off of the back of that.
- 19:33Speaker 2: How did you get through that?
- 19:35Speaker 3: Firstly, because I'm sure that would have been you would
- 19:38Speaker 3: have had a lot of like conversation with yourself, like, well,
- 19:40Speaker 3: I've spent all this time studying, Like it's a big risk.
- 19:43Speaker 3: So do you have any advice for anybody else who
- 19:45Speaker 3: was thinking of like making the jump between careers and
- 19:48Speaker 3: how did you get through that?
- 19:49Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 19:50Speaker 6: I think for me, I sat on it for a
- 19:53Speaker 6: long time. I also spoke to like my colleagues, my friends.
- 19:58Speaker 6: I didn't speak to my parents straight away because I
- 19:59Speaker 6: kne that they would be like, what are you doing?
- 20:02Speaker 6: So I got lots of different opinions. I looked forward
- 20:07Speaker 6: into the future and thought like will I regreat if
- 20:10Speaker 6: I make this decision, or will I regret for making
- 20:12Speaker 6: this decision.
- 20:13Speaker 2: I also it was obviously a risk to.
- 20:16Speaker 6: Leave, you know, a job, which like when you get
- 20:18Speaker 6: into paramedism where I was working, it's like you kind
- 20:22Speaker 6: of just stay in it your whole life, Like it's
- 20:23Speaker 6: hard to get the job and then you just people
- 20:26Speaker 6: stay there till they retire. Yeah, So I knew that
- 20:29Speaker 6: that like that would be my life or I you know, I.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Was so young, I was what twenty three, right, twenty two?
- 20:37Speaker 6: Yeah, and I was just like I just I'm getting
- 20:40Speaker 6: like offered to go overseas on these trips and like
- 20:43Speaker 6: I've always want to do that.
- 20:44Speaker 2: I was like, oh my god, if I don't do this,
- 20:45Speaker 2: I'm going to regret it.
- 20:46Speaker 6: I made sure that I had like contracts lined up
- 20:50Speaker 6: before I left, so I had myself in that way.
- 20:54Speaker 6: But I also think, like you just have to make
- 20:57Speaker 6: like a calculated jump, like a calculated risk, and like, Okay,
- 21:01Speaker 6: can I get back into you know, what I was
- 21:03Speaker 6: doing before if I really want to, Yeah, it'll be hard,
- 21:05Speaker 6: but like I've got my degree, so I can get
- 21:08Speaker 6: back into it, but I'd have to stay for a
- 21:10Speaker 6: very long time to pick all of that back up.
- 21:12Speaker 5: Did you ever have like an identity crisis with leaving
- 21:14Speaker 5: that job? You know how some people like can feel
- 21:17Speaker 5: like their identity is really tied to what they do,
- 21:20Speaker 5: and you can say no, like.
- 21:21Speaker 2: No, I was so young, and I don't think I
- 21:24Speaker 2: was doing it long enough.
- 21:25Speaker 6: Like I studied for four years and then I yeah,
- 21:28Speaker 6: went into my internship and I was working full time
- 21:31Speaker 6: like when I got the job for six months, so like.
- 21:34Speaker 2: I early in my career.
- 21:36Speaker 6: Really yeah, But I think, like it's so weird because
- 21:40Speaker 6: never in a million years would I even think this
- 21:42Speaker 6: would even be a job that I do or like
- 21:46Speaker 6: a job that I could do let alone, like a
- 21:48Speaker 6: job that actually exists ever, because like it wasn't when
- 21:51Speaker 6: I started doing Instagram. But when I look back into
- 21:54Speaker 6: my interests when I was in school, like I finished
- 21:58Speaker 6: art a year early because I was really like creative
- 22:01Speaker 6: and that side of things, and then my top subjects
- 22:04Speaker 6: were like pe and drama. So like, as much as
- 22:07Speaker 6: it's like wild every single opportunity I even get, I'm
- 22:09Speaker 6: still just like how is this real?
- 22:11Speaker 2: Am I in a simulation? Right now? It also just
- 22:13Speaker 2: feels really right, do you know what I mean?
- 22:16Speaker 6: So like I feel like maybe parimieds and like, yes,
- 22:18Speaker 6: I love the job, and you know, I went and
- 22:21Speaker 6: like obviously had to figure out what I wanted to
- 22:22Speaker 6: do and like did ride alongs and I studied for
- 22:24Speaker 6: so long and did lots of placements and chefs.
- 22:26Speaker 2: And I loved it and I loved aspects of it.
- 22:29Speaker 6: But like what I'm doing now is me Like it
- 22:32Speaker 6: really feels right. So yeah, I feel like I didn't
- 22:35Speaker 6: have an identity crisis.
- 22:36Speaker 5: I was a baby imposter syndrome gets thrown around so much,
- 22:41Speaker 5: but like you work so fucking hard and you do
- 22:44Speaker 5: a very great and good job of making it look
- 22:48Speaker 5: very natural and very and I'm sure it is like
- 22:51Speaker 5: I'm sure a lot of this comes to you very natural,
- 22:53Speaker 5: but you do work incredibly hard that I think that
- 22:55Speaker 5: is a great way to counter the imposter syndrome with confidence,
- 23:00Speaker 5: like yes, like these opportunities are here, but it's not
- 23:03Speaker 5: by accident, like I show up every single day and
- 23:06Speaker 5: like do what I do. And speaking of that, we
- 23:08Speaker 5: have to talk about Remy by Riley, because.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Like that obsessed like every other change.
- 23:15Speaker 5: Actually, I'm like, this is like the most iconic trio.
- 23:19Speaker 5: It's like you guys have to do fun, like some
- 23:22Speaker 5: absolutely diabolical Halloween fits this year or something like that.
- 23:26Speaker 6: We lift a ways to last minute last year, but
- 23:29Speaker 6: I feel like we need to like a Halloween party
- 23:30Speaker 6: or something.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Yeah, we have so much fun.
- 23:33Speaker 6: And obviously I started, well, not obviously, I started the
- 23:35Speaker 6: brand twenty twenty and it was started as active wear
- 23:38Speaker 6: and then it kind of went more into swimwear and
- 23:40Speaker 6: now we do swim and like our comfy tracksuits and
- 23:43Speaker 6: all the things.
- 23:44Speaker 2: But a result were and I were actually well got.
- 23:46Speaker 3: A list club with the accessories.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Don't for years the Jewelry, High Tide, Shout Out Jazz.
- 23:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:56Speaker 6: No, it's like obviously a really creative outlet for me,
- 23:59Speaker 6: and I started it because I didn't have my sizes
- 24:02Speaker 6: and the clothes that I wanted to wear.
- 24:03Speaker 2: So there's always that story there.
- 24:05Speaker 6: But the community that we've been able to build, like
- 24:07Speaker 6: over the last year has just been so fun, Like
- 24:10Speaker 6: all the little events that we do when we get
- 24:11Speaker 6: to Media Roun, like we just did the cafe pop up.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, E run's so funny.
- 24:15Speaker 6: Hey, Like I actually like they're all our friends essentially
- 24:18Speaker 6: at the end of the day, Like they watch us
- 24:19Speaker 6: and they think we're funny, and then like we're the
- 24:22Speaker 6: same humor.
- 24:23Speaker 2: And it's just yeah, it's really cool.
- 24:25Speaker 5: How have you like, would you have any tips for people,
- 24:28Speaker 5: because I feel like you guys have kind of set
- 24:30Speaker 5: a tone within the industry now, like when you see
- 24:33Speaker 5: people are hiring, they're like, we want like the Remy
- 24:35Speaker 5: by Riley.
- 24:36Speaker 4: The Fate, the like the EGC content vibes.
- 24:39Speaker 5: Do you have any tips for small business owners or
- 24:43Speaker 5: people who want to get into being a creator on
- 24:45Speaker 5: how they can tap into authenticity online?
- 24:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:49Speaker 6: I think obviously social media is amazing because it's free advertising, right,
- 24:54Speaker 6: Like every video that you put out, there's the potential
- 24:58Speaker 6: for it to go viral and completely chain your brand's
- 25:01Speaker 6: life and your life, like you see sixty stories like
- 25:03Speaker 6: that happen all the time. But in saying that, like
- 25:05Speaker 6: it doesn't always happen overnight, and you do have to
- 25:07Speaker 6: put that effort in. I think when you said authenticity,
- 25:11Speaker 6: like that is the main thing. I feel like you
- 25:13Speaker 6: can see straight through when like, of course everyone jumps
- 25:16Speaker 6: on trends, and that's like the whole thing about social media, right,
- 25:18Speaker 6: especially TikTok, Like you'll see the same video a.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Million times off.
- 25:24Speaker 6: Yeah, So I think having that authenticity to jump on
- 25:27Speaker 6: trends because they are like what your vibe is.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Obviously find it fun, yes, and it's still showing your personality.
- 25:36Speaker 6: Like if you're just jumping on a trend and it's
- 25:38Speaker 6: just the trend, like you're very rarely going to get
- 25:41Speaker 6: good views because it's not like there's got.
- 25:43Speaker 2: To be something else.
- 25:44Speaker 6: Yes, But I also think just like having a really
- 25:47Speaker 6: great team, like if you all get along generally and
- 25:51Speaker 6: it's like so funny and it's the like riffing in
- 25:53Speaker 6: the band, like most of our skits. We literally just
- 25:56Speaker 6: come up with them on like will be talking and
- 25:59Speaker 6: we'll say something, I'll be like, wait, we need a
- 26:00Speaker 6: film that Like, So it's it's that authenticity and I
- 26:05Speaker 6: think just have fun with it, like it's not that serious.
- 26:08Speaker 6: It's TikTok video.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Put it up. You might get tim views, you might
- 26:10Speaker 2: get tim million females.
- 26:12Speaker 5: The key is like you can kind of get a
- 26:15Speaker 5: bit like in your head being like what happens if
- 26:17Speaker 5: you get two hundred views, It's fine, it doesn't matter, like,
- 26:20Speaker 5: just keep going with it.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Has there ever because you guys do pranks?
- 26:24Speaker 2: He yes, has there.
- 26:25Speaker 4: Ever been a prank those girls that was like that?
- 26:29Speaker 5: You were like that was diabolical and I'm actually a
- 26:31Speaker 5: little bit pissed off about it.
- 26:33Speaker 6: Well, Maddie just literally FaceTime me, Oh my god, I
- 26:36Speaker 6: was on my way here. She said that all the
- 26:39Speaker 6: la boobuos that we run with lafufus, and I like
- 26:45Speaker 6: that because we like so much money on those. I
- 26:47Speaker 6: was like, have you seen any out like measure someone
- 26:50Speaker 6: gets lafufu.
- 26:51Speaker 2: I was like, that is like brand damaging, like two
- 26:54Speaker 2: point h Yeah, that stressed me out. I was like,
- 26:56Speaker 2: that's actually not funny.
- 26:57Speaker 6: So yeah, she was FaceTime and she ticks because she
- 27:02Speaker 6: tried to call me and I was like doing my bags.
- 27:03Speaker 6: I was like I'm not now yeah, and she was
- 27:05Speaker 6: like no, like.
- 27:06Speaker 2: It's not good. I was like, oh my god.
- 27:09Speaker 5: I just like actually have a serious conversation like when
- 27:12Speaker 5: because naturally something has to go wrong sometimes and I'm
- 27:16Speaker 5: like when, like maybe an order shipping is actually two weeks,
- 27:20Speaker 5: like like does it take two hours to get to
- 27:23Speaker 5: the point and being.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Like no, no, no, it's I know.
- 27:27Speaker 6: And even sometimes when I was like is this a prank? No, no, no,
- 27:29Speaker 6: and then it is a prank, you guys, But yeah,
- 27:33Speaker 6: we do have trustices. But I feel like when like
- 27:35Speaker 6: it gets down to it, my sister's one that's organized.
- 27:38Speaker 6: Vida is also like very like he's the one that
- 27:41Speaker 6: brings us all back down to earth and like the
- 27:42Speaker 6: jobs we have to do. But yeah, when we make
- 27:45Speaker 6: our tiktoks and like when we're just like fucking about,
- 27:48Speaker 6: it's hilarious. Like it's yeah, we almost need like headen
- 27:51Speaker 6: cameras because I feel like the content would be like
- 27:53Speaker 6: way funnier. We actually had like properly someone just filming
- 27:56Speaker 6: our day, like I feel like, yeah, I agree with
- 28:00Speaker 6: one listening.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Yeah, hello, hullo.
- 28:04Speaker 4: We've got three more questions.
- 28:05Speaker 5: And I really want to include this because I think
- 28:07Speaker 5: it's one of your most iconic series, and it's the
- 28:10Speaker 5: unrealistic Running Diaries.
- 28:12Speaker 4: Asking for a friend.
- 28:14Speaker 2: How do you.
- 28:15Speaker 5: Keep doing something or even start something that in your
- 28:18Speaker 5: head you're like, I hate, I don't want to do this.
- 28:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:21Speaker 6: I think for me, like the dopamine pairing of like
- 28:27Speaker 6: filming it and it's funny. That was what made me
- 28:29Speaker 6: sort of like start it and stay with it for
- 28:32Speaker 6: that first bit, Like when I first was like, oh,
- 28:34Speaker 6: like I don't like this, but also I think making
- 28:37Speaker 6: it enjoyable, like running and enjoyable, and my brain was
- 28:41Speaker 6: like that can't be a thing, like I'm sorry, Like
- 28:43Speaker 6: I can't even do it for thirty seconds without wanting
- 28:46Speaker 6: to completely like never actually step foot in the Running
- 28:49Speaker 6: show again. But I think I thought I knew all
- 28:53Speaker 6: these things about running and you had to go really
- 28:54Speaker 6: fast from the get go and all of that, and
- 28:56Speaker 6: I forgot all about it and I started super so
- 28:59Speaker 6: I still run super slow, like my pace is so slow,
- 29:02Speaker 6: but I just keep going. And so I think it's
- 29:05Speaker 6: a bit of a thing today, but pushing just that
- 29:08Speaker 6: little bit outside your comfort zone and you can slowly
- 29:11Speaker 6: build on it and you'll get better. And I feel
- 29:15Speaker 6: like running has actually done a lot for my self
- 29:17Speaker 6: confidence in terms of like what I can actually achieve
- 29:19Speaker 6: if I push myself.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Like that Nike run that I did in.
- 29:22Speaker 6: Greece, when I had to do that, Yeah, I so
- 29:25Speaker 6: that was my longest run at the time, and I
- 29:27Speaker 6: also had they didn't realize my league of the race
- 29:30Speaker 6: was like not really steep.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Some people did proper hills, but mine was an incline
- 29:34Speaker 2: and there was a bus following behind.
- 29:36Speaker 6: Videos on the bus and he was just like, dude, like,
- 29:37Speaker 6: you're she's gonna stop, Like she can't do it. And
- 29:40Speaker 6: I had run six k's it was so hot, and
- 29:43Speaker 6: I was I genuinely was like, I think I need
- 29:46Speaker 6: to stop or I can just keep going and then
- 29:48Speaker 6: pass out.
- 29:48Speaker 2: And so maybe that's probably better if I just keep
- 29:50Speaker 2: going and give.
- 29:52Speaker 6: It up technically, But yeah, finishing that, I was like,
- 29:56Speaker 6: holy shit, like I can actually do some really fucking
- 29:59Speaker 6: hard things if I put myself. So, yeah, running has
- 30:01Speaker 6: really helped my confidence just in all the things that
- 30:05Speaker 6: I find hard.
- 30:07Speaker 2: But yeah, I think running can be for everyone, Like.
