- 0:13Speaker 1: Hey, guys, welcome to another episode of Eating Wild Broke.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I'm your host, Colleen Witt, and today we have very
- 0:18Speaker 1: special guest actress, model producer John Nate Coleman is in
- 0:23Speaker 1: the building. Hi guys, thank you, thank you so much for.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Feeding me today.
- 0:29Speaker 1: So this dish I think has been on our show
- 0:33Speaker 1: to a certain degree, but we're gonna watch how you
- 0:35Speaker 1: make it. So what are you gonna be cooking for
- 0:38Speaker 1: me today on Eating While Broke?
- 0:40Speaker 3: Okay, so today we have hot dogs and baked beans. Okay,
- 0:45Speaker 3: traditional eating whild broken meal.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Okay, yes, and yours is a little different because usually
- 0:51Speaker 1: when people do hot dogs or baked.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Beans, they combine them.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Okay, but yours is, Yeah, we're cutting We're taking the
- 0:58Speaker 3: hot dog, we're cutting down the middle and we're frying
- 1:00Speaker 3: it in the pan. And we're also adding some sugar
- 1:03Speaker 3: to our big beans.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, so you're going to you're gonna posss it.
- 1:08Speaker 1: And she did have onions, Guys, I don't know where
- 1:10Speaker 1: the onions were gonna be placed, but we got going
- 1:12Speaker 1: to be in the pan, like oh, to add like
- 1:15Speaker 1: the flavor for the big beans or for the hot dogs. Okay,
- 1:20Speaker 1: And Jane said that the she's excriminatory of the red onions.
- 1:24Speaker 3: I'm not like red onions on nothing.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Okay, So it would have been okay if it was
- 1:28Speaker 2: white or yellow.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Shout out to the chupper for messing that up. So
- 1:33Speaker 2: go ahead again in the kitchen.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:36Speaker 1: By the way, I did switch out your hot dogs.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Surprised she wanted beef hot dogs.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yes, switched it out to turkey.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Fine. Yeah.
- 1:44Speaker 2: I was like, oh, she will be okay with this.
- 1:47Speaker 3: How does it get turned on? You're right? Oh, so
- 1:50Speaker 3: like this? Okay? Yeah, it's electric. It's electric and not
- 1:55Speaker 3: a lot of people are fans of electric.
- 1:57Speaker 2: But unfortunately, guys, we are trick in the studio.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Oh you know what, hold on, let me cut the
- 2:03Speaker 3: hot dog first. Yeah, go for it, do that first
- 2:07Speaker 3: down the I already washed my hands.
- 2:11Speaker 2: By the way, yes, she went in our bathrooms. But
- 2:13Speaker 2: was it an experience?
- 2:15Speaker 3: It's lovely.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I was like, when when we're in the Eating while Broke,
- 2:20Speaker 1: just remember the name of the show's Eating while Broke.
- 2:23Speaker 2: So as you prepare this classic dish, when was the
- 2:25Speaker 2: last time you had this?
- 2:26Speaker 3: I would say the last time I had this is
- 2:29Speaker 3: probably within the last couple of years. Like, even though
- 2:33Speaker 3: this is a meal that I've aten while broke, to
- 2:35Speaker 3: like the taste of it. It reminds me of home,
- 2:37Speaker 3: so sometimes I have a craving for it, so I
- 2:40Speaker 3: definitely ate it. I love that the last year or so.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Okay, I love that. So you'll be at home and
- 2:45Speaker 2: you'll be like, you know what do I have?
- 2:47Speaker 3: I got to taste the beer.
- 2:50Speaker 2: You know what?
- 2:51Speaker 1: Though, I feel like the baked beans and hot dogs
- 2:54Speaker 1: is one of those OG classics because I think people
- 2:56Speaker 1: who've had this on the show like still get down.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Everyone's different though, some people at brown sugar, some people
- 3:02Speaker 1: at white sugar.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Which one do we have to I was thinking it.
- 3:06Speaker 3: I was like, dang, should I have to ax for
- 3:08Speaker 3: brown or white? But as long as it is sugar,
- 3:11Speaker 3: I don't think it's so funny because baked beans are
- 3:14Speaker 3: naturally sweet.
- 3:15Speaker 2: But I see guests add sugar to it. I'm like, okay,
- 3:17Speaker 2: I guess you don't ask.
- 3:19Speaker 3: You never ask sugar.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I'm not a huge baked beans and hot dog person.
- 3:23Speaker 1: I think the most baked beans and hot dogs I've
- 3:25Speaker 1: ever had was on eating while broke.
- 3:28Speaker 2: It's like four times.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Okay, So as you get in this Frina of the
- 3:34Speaker 1: hot dogs. Why don't you take me back to what
- 3:37Speaker 1: was going on in the original og era of baked
- 3:40Speaker 1: beans and hot dogs as.
- 3:41Speaker 2: A tool of this is what we do on a
- 3:44Speaker 2: typical day.
- 3:45Speaker 3: I would say, just growing up in Philly and living
- 3:50Speaker 3: at home having eight siblings and.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Eight siblings, yes eight, So you grew up in the
- 3:58Speaker 1: twin bunk with the bunk bed air.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I have my own room, been a princess. Oh okay,
- 4:04Speaker 3: you know, no, but I'm my mom's only girl. Oh yeah,
- 4:08Speaker 3: but I have two sisters on my dad's side, one
- 4:11Speaker 3: of my mom's only girl, and my household. I have
- 4:14Speaker 3: my own.
- 4:15Speaker 1: But that's because well, yes, you're the only Yeah exactly.
- 4:19Speaker 1: That like she was not going to have you share
- 4:21Speaker 1: with a bunch of rambuncious boys. Them boys was probably hot.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 4:25Speaker 2: How many of your brothers had the share room.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Growing up to my brothers? Yeah, oh, it was just
- 4:31Speaker 3: too we didn't. We all didn't live together in the
- 4:33Speaker 3: same house. I have eight siblings, but we all didn't
- 4:34Speaker 3: live together. At certain points in times we did.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Okay, you're the youngest.
- 4:40Speaker 3: I'm the youngest girl, but I'm not the youngest child brother.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Okay, but your second to the youngest. Yes, he was
- 4:47Speaker 2: definitely the princess.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Okay.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I could only imagine having boys, and all of a sudden,
- 4:50Speaker 1: you get a girl.
- 4:51Speaker 3: He was in competition on who was the baby? Yeah,
- 4:54Speaker 3: because I'm the baby, because I'm the girl.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Yeah, but I guess this thing on? You know what?
- 5:01Speaker 2: It looks like both of them are on.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Oh I should be on.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Do you see it red?
- 5:06Speaker 3: No, I don't see this one. Read you said it's
- 5:08Speaker 3: this one.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, I think it is. Yeah, it's red. It's
- 5:11Speaker 2: turning around. I see I see the red. Matter of fact,
- 5:14Speaker 2: let me turn on my camera.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Okay, So on your dad's side there was sisters or
- 5:19Speaker 1: what on your dad's.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Side, Yes, somebody said I have two sisters.
- 5:22Speaker 2: So you said that.
- 5:23Speaker 1: At some points you all lived together. But then at
- 5:26Speaker 1: some point you went, are.
- 5:27Speaker 3: They're they're older than me? At some point like when
- 5:30Speaker 3: my years that I can remember, they were already starting
- 5:34Speaker 3: their lives and their family and stuff like that when
- 5:36Speaker 3: I was still in like middle school and high school
- 5:39Speaker 3: and stuff.
- 5:40Speaker 1: So your parents did the whole I'm going to parent
- 5:43Speaker 1: from my entire life journey.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Yes, and now my mom has a dog and her
- 5:47Speaker 3: baby her name was Chicago's, which is hilarious.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Antiter I refuse to be ampty nester.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Still being a parent, could you imagine having that many
- 5:56Speaker 1: kids calling you all the time, like you would have
- 5:58Speaker 1: a bunch of kids though you do, okay, And my
- 6:01Speaker 1: suspect is you don't have any right now?
- 6:03Speaker 3: No, I don't okay, Okay, got to get the right one.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Gotta get through one. Listen. Choosing who you have kids
- 6:09Speaker 2: with so important. I almost think it's more important than
- 6:14Speaker 2: who you choose to marry. True at this point, leave
- 6:17Speaker 2: the marriage because if you do separate, you got a
- 6:22Speaker 2: cold parent. Before.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I used to be like, I don't understand when like
- 6:26Speaker 1: dudes have they have baby mama before they get married.
- 6:30Speaker 1: That doesn't make sense if you're willing to have a
- 6:32Speaker 1: kid with them, marry them or whatever.
- 6:34Speaker 3: But I don't know a lot of guys think like that. Man,
- 6:36Speaker 3: I don't know why. It's bizarre. Yeah, because it makes
- 6:40Speaker 3: no sense.
- 6:40Speaker 2: It makes no sense.
- 6:41Speaker 1: No, I think we're in a we're in the new
- 6:43Speaker 1: age where marriage isn't really the priority and everyone's finding
- 6:48Speaker 1: a way to avoid it.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Do you feel like that, Yep, they'd rather be a
- 6:52Speaker 3: baby mama.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it boils down to and people are
- 6:55Speaker 1: gonna hate me for this, but I don't think they
- 6:58Speaker 1: want the full responsibilit Yeah, and I think women this
- 7:03Speaker 1: is also going to probably fall weird, rarely placed in words,
- 7:09Speaker 1: but I think women at some point thought some women thought, oh,
- 7:13Speaker 1: if you have a baby with someone, like trap them.
- 7:16Speaker 3: But like men trapped women, men trap women for sure.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Let me tell you something. Men definitely trap women.
- 7:26Speaker 1: God yeah, men one hundred percent trapped women one hundred percent.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Believe that I've had excess. Tell me, like I knew
- 7:34Speaker 2: I should have had a kid with you, like I
- 7:35Speaker 2: knew I should have.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Yet to I'm going to catch you? How about that?
- 7:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I believe that. But no you are, No,
- 7:43Speaker 2: you're not. Women are pulling with so much weight right now.
- 7:46Speaker 2: They don't they smart now exactly.
- 7:48Speaker 1: But I will say this though, for the women that
- 7:50Speaker 1: did think that that's how you trap someone, it's actually
- 7:53Speaker 1: backwards because you become the bucket of responsibility. And if
- 7:56Speaker 1: a guy is trying to avoid responsibility, you go from
- 7:59Speaker 1: fun girls to.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Responsibility and that changes really quickly.
- 8:05Speaker 1: So just in case you're thinking it, don't do it.
- 8:09Speaker 2: No, it's not gonna help your situation. It just makes
- 8:11Speaker 2: it worse.
- 8:12Speaker 1: But going back to your story, eight kids, princess in
- 8:16Speaker 1: the house, parents, middle class, upper middle class, poor, I.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Will say, what's middle class?
- 8:23Speaker 1: The middle class is you're not qualified for food stamps,
- 8:27Speaker 1: but you're getting by. I would say that's class because
- 8:30Speaker 1: middle class is like, you're getting by, but you don't
- 8:32Speaker 1: qualify for no breaks.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Yeah, honestly, to tell you the truth, my mom worked
- 8:38Speaker 3: in school system, okay. And my dad he's retired now,
- 8:41Speaker 3: but he was a cop. Okay, so I would probably
- 8:45Speaker 3: say middle middle class maybe, yeah, upper middle class, maybe
- 8:51Speaker 3: upper upper middle class okay, okay.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Shout outs to your parents.
- 8:54Speaker 3: And they stayed married, they stay may Yeah, they're still married. Yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 3: look at them, little non empty I'm still I need
- 9:03Speaker 3: all that that I grew up with.
- 9:05Speaker 2: And they had a blended family.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Yes.
- 9:07Speaker 2: So they came and dad came in with how many.
- 9:10Speaker 3: I think four? And then your mom came in with
- 9:13Speaker 3: is that four? Because eight?
- 9:15Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 9:16Speaker 3: Yeah? Four? Four or five and three?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Wait they had some kids together.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Yeah, it's four and four. Okay. My dad came in four.
- 9:25Speaker 3: My mom didn't come in with four, but then chowing four, Oh,
- 9:29Speaker 3: she had four. Yeah, so she.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Basically took on daddy plus four.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Yes, but I'm it's a it's crazy to explain it. Okay,
- 9:39Speaker 3: I'm my mom and dad daughter. Then I have two
- 9:42Speaker 3: other brothers. That's my mom and dad son, and the
- 9:45Speaker 3: three other brothers mom and son, and then my dad
- 9:47Speaker 3: came in with his kids.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Yeah. So yeah, so your mom was zero.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Yes, she was a free agent, she said one plus
- 9:58Speaker 1: she added five five a team.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Yep.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, your mom's a trooper. Shout out to your
- 10:03Speaker 1: mom for that period. Okay, so now you guys growing up,
- 10:07Speaker 1: tell me, are you starting to think about acting, modeling, producing,
- 10:12Speaker 1: what's going on.
- 10:13Speaker 3: I've been in dance and acting in theater and all
- 10:15Speaker 3: that stuff my whole life. So I've been doing that
- 10:18Speaker 3: since I was three years old. My mom had me
- 10:20Speaker 3: in every single thing that she could think of. I
- 10:23Speaker 3: played tennis, golf, soccer, violin, piano, everything. But what ultimately
- 10:29Speaker 3: stuck with me for a while with dance?
- 10:31Speaker 2: Okay.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Yeah, so I've danced all over the world. I danced professionally,
- 10:37Speaker 3: and then from there I moved into being a creator.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, and what made you want to step away
- 10:47Speaker 1: from dance to get into being a creator.
- 10:49Speaker 3: I felt like in Philly, I felt like I've reached
- 10:52Speaker 3: my peak. And I had been living at home until
- 10:57Speaker 3: I was like twenty four. Okay, so I've really had
- 11:00Speaker 3: a real sense of responsibilities and bills and all that
- 11:04Speaker 3: stuff like that. So I will say my eating while
- 11:07Speaker 3: broke really happened for me when I transitioned over to La. Okay, yeah,
- 11:13Speaker 3: you left Philly to come all the way over here,
- 11:15Speaker 3: my first time moving, my first time paying my own.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Why did you go that far?
- 11:20Speaker 3: I've always wanted to live in LA and I'm like,
- 11:22Speaker 3: I'm a risk taker, so I'm like, no, I did not.
- 11:29Speaker 3: I went to one of my cousins like own a
- 11:32Speaker 3: bar lounge, and I went and I did hosting there.
- 11:36Speaker 3: But I'll say that like two thousand dollars and I
- 11:38Speaker 3: was like, this is enough to move me to LA.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I didn't last about two weeks listen.
- 11:43Speaker 3: And I booked my flight. I told I was telling
- 11:46Speaker 3: my mom. I kept telling her like, I'm moving to LA.
- 11:48Speaker 3: I'm moving to LA. And she didn't think that I
- 11:50Speaker 3: was erious because he had money. Yeah, but I'm like,
- 11:54Speaker 3: I'm moving And I had reached out to friends that
- 11:56Speaker 3: I knew that lived out there and whatever, so I
- 11:58Speaker 3: knew I had somewhere, I had all my in order,
- 12:00Speaker 3: so I thought, this is after dance though, yeah, you're
- 12:03Speaker 3: like that said, I'm packing up, packing up now.
- 12:05Speaker 2: It was the money in dance good.
- 12:07Speaker 3: No, I would say dance dancing doesn't really pay your
- 12:10Speaker 3: billing and know that until I moved to LA because
- 12:13Speaker 3: I went out there to pursue, I was like, I'm
- 12:15Speaker 3: going to be Beyonce's back on dancing. Yeah, that was
- 12:17Speaker 3: my dream. And then I went to my first audition
- 12:20Speaker 3: out there and I forgot. I think it might have
- 12:22Speaker 3: been for Usher or for somebody, and it was like
- 12:25Speaker 3: so many people, hundreds and hundreds of people, and I
- 12:29Speaker 3: was like, okay. And then when I start seeing like
- 12:32Speaker 3: the pay and really being it's not going to make
- 12:37Speaker 3: no sense.
- 12:38Speaker 1: And then I've heard different stories. But when you're in dance,
- 12:42Speaker 1: the treatment of dancers.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Is all the way great. Either, I'm not really I guess.
- 12:45Speaker 3: It depends on who you're touring with and stuff like that,
- 12:48Speaker 3: but I'm not really. I'm not really sure about that,
- 12:51Speaker 3: but I just know that as far as payment through trushan.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Nope, but just put it somewhere it's eating while broke.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Okay, I just know that as far as like living stuff,
- 13:02Speaker 3: that wasn't gonna work for me. But I also used
- 13:04Speaker 3: to take a lot of pictures and stuff like that.
- 13:07Speaker 3: So one day I was doing my regular thing like
- 13:09Speaker 3: I normally do, posting pictures of myself on social media,
- 13:12Speaker 3: and then the brand pre little thing reached out to
- 13:14Speaker 3: me and yeah. They were like a fashion over type yes,
- 13:18Speaker 3: and they're like, oh, we'll send you free clothes for
- 13:20Speaker 3: you to post, and I'm like clothes. Okay. I had
- 13:23Speaker 3: moved to La I had been like staying at like
- 13:25Speaker 3: staying with friends, like extra rooms or on the couch
- 13:29Speaker 3: or whatever, and in my mind, I was like, I'm
- 13:30Speaker 3: not going back. I'm gonna make it work. My mom
- 13:32Speaker 3: didn't know. She knows now, but she didn't know any
- 13:34Speaker 3: of this. While I was out there. She would call me,
- 13:36Speaker 3: how how are they going. I'm like, it's going great,
- 13:40Speaker 3: going to Pop pause and getting me two wings in
- 13:42Speaker 3: the biscuits, trying to make it work.
- 13:44Speaker 2: But you didn't want to tell her the truth because
- 13:46Speaker 2: you know, she would have been like, bring your home.
- 13:49Speaker 3: I'm booking. Oh my mom always had a flight ready
- 13:52Speaker 3: for me.
- 13:53Speaker 2: You're her Princess a flight. You ready to know that?
- 13:56Speaker 3: Now she doesn't. It's so funny because for a while
- 13:58Speaker 3: she was like you ready to come back. Now she's
- 14:00Speaker 3: finally girl, You're good.
- 14:02Speaker 2: But does she come out to visit you?
- 14:04Speaker 3: Yeah? Came out couple of times. But yeah. The brand
- 14:07Speaker 3: reached out to me and they sent me clothes. And
- 14:10Speaker 3: then from here I was like, oh, okay, I have
- 14:11Speaker 3: to spend money on clothes. And then I start looking
- 14:14Speaker 3: this might be done. And then I start looking into
- 14:17Speaker 3: that world and I was like, oh, you can get
- 14:19Speaker 3: paid from posting on social media, and then I really
- 14:23Speaker 3: just started diving into that and then came just me
- 14:27Speaker 3: having brand deals with different fashion companies Savage Fente. From there,
- 14:31Speaker 3: that's how I started my content grating and started with
- 14:34Speaker 3: photos at first.
- 14:36Speaker 2: And then who was negotiating your deals for the brands?
- 14:39Speaker 2: Was it just you direct?
- 14:40Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it was just me. It was just me.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Some brands will run off with the money, run off
- 14:45Speaker 2: with the money.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Still to this day that happens. That's why it's good
- 14:48Speaker 3: to have a team with you.
- 14:49Speaker 2: And what do you mean, like you post a pic
- 14:51Speaker 2: the ghosts ghost gone.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Yeah, So that's why it's good to have a team
- 14:58Speaker 3: and having people who know leave stuff and having a
- 15:00Speaker 3: lawyer and stuff like that so you can get your money,
- 15:02Speaker 3: because it still happens to this day, but it's like
- 15:04Speaker 3: worse when it happens while broke the hell.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I would imagine too.
- 15:12Speaker 1: The payment isn't right away either too, because for a
- 15:14Speaker 1: lot of people they have to remember that. Like you
- 15:16Speaker 1: could post and then that check may I show up
- 15:18Speaker 1: for what thirty sixty ninety days?
- 15:19Speaker 2: Right?
- 15:20Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:21Speaker 3: I knew that now, but back then I didn't know
- 15:23Speaker 3: all the stuff. I just thought I get my money, But.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Wasn't enough money to sustain That was quick?
- 15:29Speaker 3: Yeah, there was quick, little meal.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Wasn't enough money to sustain you? Though? No.
- 15:33Speaker 3: For a long time in LA, I was, like I said,
- 15:37Speaker 3: I was like rooming with people. And then I got
- 15:39Speaker 3: into when I was still getting like my free clothes
- 15:42Speaker 3: to posts. I was a teacher's assistant when I was
- 15:45Speaker 3: working with kids who have autism. So I was doing
- 15:48Speaker 3: that for a while, and then the pandemic happened. Hey
- 15:53Speaker 3: that's a pay day, listen. And then that check was coming.
- 15:56Speaker 3: When was it that check that was.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Coming every that I didn't sign up for it, but
- 15:59Speaker 2: I know simulus.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Yeah it was stimulus, but people were people are getting
- 16:03Speaker 1: paid more than they had ever got paid, and they
- 16:05Speaker 1: hold PPP.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I did PPP, by the way, I did that. I
- 16:10Speaker 2: still own money from PvP. Shout out to p PP.
- 16:14Speaker 1: But at that time there were some people that hadn't
- 16:17Speaker 1: even made that much. I think they were paying during
- 16:19Speaker 1: the pandemic. I want to stay between four and six
- 16:21Speaker 1: k a month. People were making.
- 16:24Speaker 2: I think that maybe maybe I'm wrong.
- 16:27Speaker 3: I got the one I got one thousand summer wrong,
- 16:30Speaker 3: some one thousand a month something like this. It was
- 16:32Speaker 3: enough for me to pay my bills and for me
- 16:34Speaker 3: to feel like I was on top of the world.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Yeah, shaped in your apartment, can't go nowhere, but I
- 16:41Speaker 1: gas exactly.
- 16:43Speaker 2: There was no traffic.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Do you remember that? No, I was. I was scared
- 16:46Speaker 3: to get First of all, I court COVID, I court
- 16:49Speaker 3: every strand after the after the lockdown. Ain't that crazy after?
- 16:55Speaker 2: Not even during? That's because you was safe at home
- 16:57Speaker 2: the whole time and the door. I was like, I'm no.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I was paranoid at first, and then people were like,
- 17:02Speaker 3: I God. I would come out masked up, wash my
- 17:05Speaker 3: hands a million times, like I was that person hands
- 17:07Speaker 3: hands dry because I used so much hand sanitized and
- 17:10Speaker 3: I caught every you're hilarious.
- 17:13Speaker 2: I remember the rest of my costs COVID. They said
- 17:15Speaker 2: I looked like death.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Oh. I was like, oh man, oh yeah I was.
- 17:19Speaker 3: I'm not a person that takes me sick.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I'm like, oh yeah.
- 17:23Speaker 1: COVID sucks because you can't even get attention while you
- 17:25Speaker 1: say you tracked, because nobody want to.
- 17:29Speaker 3: You'd be like, good luck, buddy, what you mean you're
- 17:32Speaker 3: not dropping off? No food?
- 17:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like the loneliest sickness you ever had. You'd
- 17:37Speaker 2: be like, come on, man, it ain't that bad.
- 17:38Speaker 3: They'd be like, I'm good exactly exactly. Yeah. So COVID happened,
- 17:43Speaker 3: and then I was able to at that point I
- 17:46Speaker 3: had roommates. I have roommates, had got myself together. Whereas
- 17:49Speaker 3: though I could be able to afford roommate situation, and
- 17:53Speaker 3: that situation was crazy because I lived with two girls
- 17:56Speaker 3: whom they were not clean.
- 18:00Speaker 2: And that's the worst. Did you have to share a bathroom? Yes,
- 18:03Speaker 2: because let me tell you something. To have a roommate,
- 18:06Speaker 2: the key is, don't share a bathroom. Does if you
- 18:09Speaker 2: share a bathroom with someone that's not clean.
- 18:12Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, that's the nightmare. Let me when I
- 18:15Speaker 3: tell you, this girl will have her pennies on the
- 18:19Speaker 3: door knob. Gross the shower it with me clean. And
- 18:26Speaker 3: it was at one point where I was like, I'm
- 18:28Speaker 3: I literally got like a housekeeper, or when I'm going
- 18:31Speaker 3: to come in to come like deep clean this thing,
- 18:34Speaker 3: deep cleaned it. She deep cleaned it. I went in
- 18:37Speaker 3: my room to get myself ready for the shot because
- 18:38Speaker 3: I should be able to take a shower first, because
- 18:40Speaker 3: I didn't want to for the clean you know, she
- 18:42Speaker 3: hopped in the bedroom for me and got in a shower.
- 18:45Speaker 3: I almost lost it.
- 18:46Speaker 2: I most lost excuse me, miss, excuse me, town and
- 18:51Speaker 2: all get on out.
- 18:51Speaker 3: And not only did she do that, she didn't clean
- 18:54Speaker 3: the shower when she got out.
- 18:55Speaker 2: So when I went and it was dirty again, I
- 18:57Speaker 2: lost dirty that quick? That dirty? That quick? Are you
- 19:01Speaker 2: OCD clean? Because how does it get dirty that quick?
- 19:03Speaker 3: Dirty? And at the time I was dating somebody, so
- 19:06Speaker 3: I wasn't. Eventually within I was dating somebody, and I
- 19:09Speaker 3: would and always stay at my plate and I would
- 19:12Speaker 3: come back and it would be on my phone like
- 19:15Speaker 3: a footprint. It was just no I had to get
- 19:18Speaker 3: a lot of their so I was dealing with that.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I had a roommate situation like that once. I'm still
- 19:25Speaker 1: cool with the girl, but it was let's just say
- 19:30Speaker 1: a learning lesson.
- 19:31Speaker 2: That's my bathrooms.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Even in my house. When I bought my house, each
- 19:35Speaker 1: bedroom has its own on suite and then it has
- 19:38Speaker 1: a guest bathroom. And I mainly did that because of
- 19:41Speaker 1: my experience.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Is that crazy, No, it's not. I was like, everybody's
- 19:46Speaker 2: gonna have their own on suite, so if you little nasty,
- 19:48Speaker 2: little nasty, nasty little.
- 19:51Speaker 3: To see it. I also set up camera because I
- 19:54Speaker 3: was not always in hilarious my room. I had cameras
- 19:57Speaker 3: in my.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Room and I be hilarious coming in my room. What
- 20:00Speaker 2: were they your friends?
- 20:02Speaker 3: No, we like have mutual friends.
- 20:05Speaker 1: That's weird because I always thought that if you're not
- 20:08Speaker 1: friends with your roommates, they respect. Because I had all
- 20:11Speaker 1: my roommates for the most part, exce after the one
- 20:14Speaker 1: we weren't friends. So it was like you just knew
- 20:17Speaker 1: that part of the house was a no flies on.
- 20:19Speaker 1: And I heard that works because you don't know the person.
- 20:22Speaker 3: They'd be in my room, and I saw right on
- 20:24Speaker 3: four k in the camera and I just was like
- 20:26Speaker 3: And it was to the point where it was just like, who.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Are they going in your room for? They were just looking.
- 20:32Speaker 3: STUPIDO being ozy.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I don't know, that's weird. But yeah, so that friendship
- 20:37Speaker 2: is over.
- 20:38Speaker 3: It wasn't a friendship, it was roommates, but with my
- 20:41Speaker 3: safety and my personal things became an issue and I'm like, Okay,
- 20:44Speaker 3: I don't want to leave this here. I don't want
- 20:46Speaker 3: to leave this here, so at my boyfriend house, but
- 20:48Speaker 3: it was just like, why am I not leaving stuff
- 20:50Speaker 3: in my space? During that time, I started blowing up
- 20:54Speaker 3: on social media. I start putting videos out and then
- 20:58Speaker 3: my videos started going viral and getting attention and me
- 21:02Speaker 3: going live streaming and stuff. And then from there I
- 21:04Speaker 3: was able to get more brand deal more money, and
- 21:07Speaker 3: then once I got enough, I got it out of
- 21:09Speaker 3: there real quick.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And at this point, you're learning how to manage your money,
- 21:13Speaker 1: because I would imagine a check for a post can
- 21:17Speaker 1: make the ability to spend money go by a lot faster, right,
- 21:20Speaker 1: because you're getting a check and you're like, I'll just
- 21:22Speaker 1: do it.
- 21:22Speaker 3: I would say, I'm just now certain really learning how.
- 21:25Speaker 2: To manage money.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Yeah, because, like you said, when you are getting fifteen
- 21:30Speaker 3: K for a poll.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Fifteen K, yeah, oh my god, I would love that
- 21:36Speaker 1: life for a post. Then you think I can do
- 21:39Speaker 1: this up again and I'll run it back the post.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Lo, I got this post coming up, this post? Okay, cool,
- 21:44Speaker 3: you start.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Girl math, But but you also had the situations where
- 21:50Speaker 1: people with brands would bounce on you. So how do
- 21:52Speaker 1: you plan to spend your money when there's a chance.
- 21:55Speaker 3: I'm saying I've learned from that now where I don't
- 21:58Speaker 3: spend money that ain't in my count yet. Got it?
- 22:01Speaker 3: Because sometimes it'll be like, Okay, I can work, I
- 22:03Speaker 3: can do this with this, because I would think I
- 22:06Speaker 3: can do this with this amount because I know about
- 22:08Speaker 3: a thirty if this is gonna hit, And then the
- 22:09Speaker 3: thirtieth coming it don't hit, and you're like, yeah, you
- 22:12Speaker 3: can do so, I don't spend moneyny in my account yet.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Yeah, And then you live on a stricter budget. Are
- 22:17Speaker 2: you going to feed us today? Oh yes, yeah, yeah?
- 22:21Speaker 3: Do you want to one?
- 22:22Speaker 2: I want all of it.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I want it the way you do it at home.
- 22:26Speaker 1: It's interesting on this show where you come on and
- 22:29Speaker 1: you're the guests and you're the special guest and then
- 22:32Speaker 1: you're cooking for me? Do you feel a little weird
- 22:34Speaker 1: about that?
- 22:35Speaker 3: No, I'm a wife, so I do these things okay, practice, yes,
- 22:42Speaker 3: I see.
- 22:43Speaker 2: So did you have to learn how to live on
- 22:45Speaker 2: a budget?
- 22:46Speaker 3: I definitely did. I had to learn how to grocery shop,
- 22:50Speaker 3: like not buying. It's a whole bunch of random.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Eating out all the time, fries and chicken wings.
- 22:57Speaker 3: And steak and all. I had to learn how Okay,
- 23:00Speaker 3: don't go crazy, yeah, learn what you need. Don't get
- 23:04Speaker 3: a but eating out?
- 23:05Speaker 2: Yeah, eating out. I'm a burrow down really, Yes, Yeah,
- 23:10Speaker 2: I had to learn a long time ago.
- 23:13Speaker 1: When I first moved to La it was one of
- 23:15Speaker 1: my lessons was like, yo, you can look in your
- 23:18Speaker 1: bank account when the bills are doing be like where'd
- 23:20Speaker 1: my money go? And you go and you're like I
- 23:22Speaker 1: was the younger, it would be like McDonald's Dell time.
- 23:25Speaker 2: This was me in my younger days.
- 23:26Speaker 1: But it would always be spent on money and I'd
- 23:28Speaker 1: be like, yo, you can't pay the phone bill. She
- 23:31Speaker 1: bought all this name fast food.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Mine definitely was hair too, okay, like I used to
- 23:36Speaker 3: even when I like when I first started out I
- 23:38Speaker 3: was wearing a synthetic beause I was having me a
- 23:40Speaker 3: synthetic wig, and it was like they went for about
- 23:43Speaker 3: I would say, like fifty dollars ethetic here the last
- 23:46Speaker 3: day lost. I had a new wig every week.
- 23:49Speaker 2: You aren't trying to maintain them or nothing to try
- 23:51Speaker 2: to make that longer.
- 23:53Speaker 3: You can try your best, but.
- 23:56Speaker 1: That was like my beans are touching my bun. Okay,
- 23:59Speaker 1: I could do the ketchup in the mustard. You could
- 24:02Speaker 1: play your place, just play your.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Oh look she's trying to hook it up there, thank
- 24:07Speaker 2: you trying to hook it up and.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Must let me shake this. I'm a paper holic person.
- 24:19Speaker 2: I could see you're gonna have a little stack for me.
- 24:21Speaker 2: I am here, I'll put it. Okay.
- 24:26Speaker 1: So you're thriving in La, though, say how long did
- 24:30Speaker 1: it take for you to get the brands to be
- 24:33Speaker 1: more consistent where it's like your only source of income.
- 24:36Speaker 3: This looks great, thank you, I will say, for to
- 24:40Speaker 3: be my only source of income, it probably took me about.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Like when I first moved to or you're like just
- 24:50Speaker 1: doing brand deals and no side, no like real jobs.
- 24:53Speaker 3: I would say it probably took me about two years. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 24:56Speaker 3: probably two years once I started doing content creating.
- 24:59Speaker 2: And you're at any point are you reaching out to
- 25:01Speaker 2: brands too?
- 25:02Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I used to. I used to sit and
- 25:04Speaker 3: I used to email brands like like a crackhead. I
- 25:09Speaker 3: used to just sit there and just did you create
- 25:11Speaker 3: your own decks and stuff? I created my own Okay,
- 25:13Speaker 3: so you became your real owned business person. Okay, so
- 25:18Speaker 3: you're a business You're a business owner. Now are you
- 25:20Speaker 3: getting checks written directly to you or are you incorporating
- 25:23Speaker 3: or Starting off, it was directly too, but as I've
- 25:27Speaker 3: been doing it and learn knowledge of it, and then
- 25:29Speaker 3: this when I got a team and then I got
- 25:31Speaker 3: my business and stuff like that. But starting off, it
- 25:33Speaker 3: was just like, hey, are you going to say they
- 25:34Speaker 3: do PayPal like that?
- 25:37Speaker 1: And so you're learning how to deal with the tax
- 25:39Speaker 1: situation write off and all that stuff. But I also
- 25:42Speaker 1: have I have a lawyer and I have a team
- 25:45Speaker 1: now that helps them with because I just feel like, yeah,
- 25:47Speaker 1: I just feel like I'm a person that, like even now,
- 25:49Speaker 1: I still micromanage.
- 25:51Speaker 3: I'm just that person like I'm OCD like that I
- 25:53Speaker 3: have to know every step of the way, but I
- 25:54Speaker 3: also do know that I don't know everything. Yeah, so
- 25:57Speaker 3: that I do need a professional that knows and stuff. Yeah,
- 26:00Speaker 3: not stone checking what you're doing. How did it go? Yeah? Cool?
- 26:02Speaker 1: That's good because it teaches you. I think that when
- 26:04Speaker 1: you're an entrepreneur, you should know. I don't think you
- 26:07Speaker 1: should be the best at every job, but you should
- 26:10Speaker 1: have an idea of what everybody on your team does.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Like even with my show, Like, I know I don't
- 26:16Speaker 3: shoot the show guys, but I know how to turn
- 26:18Speaker 3: on the cameras and folks.
- 26:20Speaker 1: You know, I like lot, even with the editor software,
- 26:24Speaker 1: Like I'll go in and I'll look at the editor
- 26:26Speaker 1: software and my editing episodes. Absolutely not my editing clips
- 26:30Speaker 1: to know, but I at least try to play around
- 26:32Speaker 1: with us. Okay, this is why it even just helps
- 26:35Speaker 1: me better understand why I'm paying what I'm paying, because
- 26:37Speaker 1: sometimes you could be like I'm paying you too much.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Like exactly you're like, hold on, I can do this,
- 26:41Speaker 3: or no, I can't do this.
- 26:43Speaker 2: You need to hire somebody, and how much time it takes?
- 26:45Speaker 3: Exactly?
- 26:46Speaker 2: Now, can we eat Yale? You in your paper towels?
- 26:49Speaker 2: I know, Yeah, I got a whole stack for you. Okay,
- 26:52Speaker 2: But kitchen, though, I'll tell you this.
- 26:54Speaker 3: This is the thing though, even like even at home
- 26:56Speaker 3: growing up, they would be like dang, I would run
- 26:59Speaker 3: through run told anything, paper towels, told, paper towel, napkin.
- 27:02Speaker 3: I don't know what it is.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Are you a paper towel snop?
- 27:05Speaker 3: Because I am what's the paper towel snob?
- 27:08Speaker 2: So you know, when you go to the store, there's bounty,
- 27:10Speaker 2: there's like vivo, oh, and then there's like the cheap stuff.
- 27:14Speaker 3: What do you use?
- 27:16Speaker 2: When I'm on top, it's vivo all the way, that's
- 27:18Speaker 2: big cloth, tablecloth, and then it's bounty.
- 27:21Speaker 3: I don't bounty.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I don't ever rarely touch the cheap stuff. But in
- 27:25Speaker 1: the studio, guys, if I'm not stealing bounty towels from
- 27:29Speaker 1: my house, the good stuff, I will buy the cheap,
- 27:31Speaker 1: not like these are the cheap, but if you went
- 27:33Speaker 1: to my house, it would be the high quality.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Yeah, this is the cheap I'll tell you right now.
- 27:37Speaker 2: You look at it, all right, cheers. Did you push
- 27:40Speaker 2: your gr in it? Yes? Okay, now you're questioning because
- 27:45Speaker 2: you had bacon in it.
- 27:46Speaker 3: It's a little I didn't taste the bacon, so you can.
- 27:49Speaker 3: It tastes good. Though you know, it's like it's like
- 27:51Speaker 3: a savory suite. Really, thank you.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Okay, now I'm excited for the dog, guys, And I'm
- 27:59Speaker 1: gonna tell you why she fried it.
- 28:02Speaker 2: But she fried it with a little crisp And.
- 28:05Speaker 1: If you know anything about cooking and barbecue or anything,
- 28:08Speaker 1: that little burnt crispy in it's not I don't want
- 28:11Speaker 1: to say burnt, but yeah, you know what I'm talking about.
- 28:12Speaker 3: That like seared, pan seared, hand seared.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Okay, we got a pants here. If we have so
- 28:17Speaker 2: much right on this is this bun so bunny?
- 28:19Speaker 3: Right, I'll just rip mine off. Here we go. I'm gone,
- 28:25Speaker 3: I'm blood.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Now do you ever fry the buns?
- 28:31Speaker 3: I never did that before, I don't think, but that
- 28:34Speaker 3: might be something to add.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Let me tell you, guys, the reason why I'm unhealthy
- 28:39Speaker 1: and sometimes I get up to a lot of weight
- 28:40Speaker 1: is because I use a lot of butter. But if
- 28:42Speaker 1: you were to open these buns and butter the pan, girl,
- 28:46Speaker 1: I'm telling you, it's good.
- 28:48Speaker 2: It's good.
- 28:48Speaker 1: I don't know about what a hot dog, but I
- 28:50Speaker 1: would still try because I think it all bread should
- 28:52Speaker 1: be buttered in a pan.
- 28:54Speaker 2: But it adds that like extra saltiness to it. My
- 28:56Speaker 2: daughter will be like, Mom, go in the kitchen to
- 28:59Speaker 2: make me some salty bread and salted butter and bread.
- 29:03Speaker 3: I'm done. Had anybody come on cook the meal that
- 29:06Speaker 3: you did not like? Did you say I'm like this?
- 29:09Speaker 3: I was trying to. I was trying to see if
- 29:10Speaker 3: she really liked it, y'all.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I read it one person, the worst ramen dish in
- 29:14Speaker 2: the history of ramen.
- 29:16Speaker 3: They made noodles.
- 29:19Speaker 2: It was like ramen, but right the pack.
- 29:22Speaker 3: It was like the pack of ramen.
- 29:24Speaker 2: But he added onion, way too much onion, and he
- 29:27Speaker 2: overcooked the noodles. But you could just like littlely scoop
- 29:29Speaker 2: it and swallow all that. Bro No one should ever
- 29:34Speaker 2: allow you to make ramen. He was like, Oh, it's
- 29:37Speaker 2: not that bad. I was like, it's the worst ramen
- 29:39Speaker 2: I've ever had.
- 29:40Speaker 3: And most that I woul put in like we call
- 29:43Speaker 3: it noodles, okay, I would put hot sauce and it
- 29:48Speaker 3: my niece. She knew how to make her. She knows
- 29:51Speaker 3: how to salce hers up there. But I like, I
- 29:53Speaker 3: would just maybe hot sauce. If I were to add,
- 29:58Speaker 3: you may be the first butter.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I think bone thugs and harmony added hot they also
- 30:04Speaker 1: do the big bean?
- 30:05Speaker 3: Who did the big beans?
- 30:06Speaker 2: Honestly, we had country Wayne, we had a lot. We
- 30:09Speaker 2: had baked beans at least four times.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Entrepreneurs do it a lot. A couple of entrepreneurs who
- 30:15Speaker 1: else bake beans has been on at least four times.
- 30:19Speaker 1: I can't remember them all, but I do remember Wayne's
- 30:22Speaker 1: because he was particular that his baked beans had to
- 30:24Speaker 1: be vegan. And just so you know, I never found
- 30:28Speaker 1: a can of baked beans that said vegan on his
- 30:31Speaker 1: chairs today.
- 30:35Speaker 3: Did he eat the beans? He was mad?
- 30:37Speaker 1: The second time he said he wouldn't eat it, but
- 30:40Speaker 1: the first time he did, but he swore it was
- 30:43Speaker 1: a vegan can of baked beans. And I asked everyone,
- 30:45Speaker 1: and I was like, I don't know what you're talking about.
- 30:47Speaker 1: There's vegetarian baked beans, but there's no vegan bacons.
- 30:50Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe he missed that one.
- 30:54Speaker 2: You know, you never know. They sta a label on things.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Like people always say, like the food that's just organic.
- 31:02Speaker 1: I'm like, yo, it has one organic product and they're
- 31:04Speaker 1: labeling it organic and everything else.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Even the grocery store meet.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I tell people like, if you want really fresh meat,
- 31:10Speaker 1: go to a butcher because the grocery store meat has
- 31:12Speaker 1: pink sign in it. You know, it has a lot
- 31:14Speaker 1: of filler in it.
- 31:15Speaker 3: Yeah, you're learning here on it eating.
- 31:17Speaker 2: While broke broke. Okay, so how do you go from
- 31:21Speaker 2: creator to actress model producer? Guess model is in the creator,
- 31:26Speaker 2: but actress producer.
- 31:28Speaker 3: So during the pandemic, I started taking videos on TikTok
- 31:32Speaker 3: and I was gaining one hundred thousand followers a month.
- 31:35Speaker 3: And from there I met someone that worked at Instagram
- 31:39Speaker 3: and they were like, they love my TikTok. So they
- 31:41Speaker 3: were like, you need posting my Instagram and I was like,
- 31:43Speaker 3: I don't know, Like my Instagram feed has to look
- 31:45Speaker 3: a certain way. And that's why I was doing mostly
- 31:47Speaker 3: pictures of Malin on air. And then oh bean Cash,
- 31:50Speaker 3: oh excuse me. I told her. I was like, okay,
- 31:54Speaker 3: like next time you'll see me. Next time you see me,
- 31:56Speaker 3: I'm gonna have a video posted. And I did my
- 31:59Speaker 3: face car video, which is what I'm known for a
- 32:03Speaker 3: lot on social media. Facecard never declines. So I posted
- 32:07Speaker 3: that video on TikTok. It got twenty million views, and
- 32:10Speaker 3: I still hadn't posted on Instagram. And one day I
- 32:13Speaker 3: was just like, you know what, I'm just gonna do it.
- 32:15Speaker 3: So I posted it up on Instagram. The girl it
- 32:18Speaker 3: didn't even hit ten kbus. I was like, this is terrible.
- 32:21Speaker 3: I'm so embarrassed because on TikTok I'm at like twenty
- 32:23Speaker 3: million on Instagram.
- 32:24Speaker 2: This wow.
- 32:26Speaker 3: And I was just like, I'm taking a video down.
- 32:27Speaker 3: I just felt so just yucky about myself.
- 32:33Speaker 2: You felt yucky about yourself because of the numbers, because
- 32:37Speaker 2: you had already acquired this certain standard for yourself.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Because because of the numbers, I felt like embarrassed thinking
- 32:43Speaker 3: that the whole world's looking at me. So don't remember
- 32:44Speaker 3: rout you once I said in that, And I didn't
- 32:47Speaker 3: like how it was consuming me. I was like, I'm
- 32:50Speaker 3: not taking a video down, like I was like, and
- 32:51Speaker 3: I was gathering myself. I'm like, no argue with myself.
- 32:54Speaker 3: I'm not taking it down. I'm not gonna let this
- 32:56Speaker 3: video define me. Like, how do I feel like less
- 32:59Speaker 3: of a createater went on this other platform it's twenty million? Yeah,
- 33:03Speaker 3: So I it's like you're mentally just messing.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Now, isn't this When TikTok already was just starting to
- 33:08Speaker 1: do video or Instagram was just starting.
- 33:10Speaker 2: To do video or my tripping.
- 33:12Speaker 3: I'm not sure because I wasn't on the video. I
- 33:14Speaker 3: wasn't worried about videos. I was just picturing. But I
- 33:16Speaker 3: think it had already had videos off there because this
- 33:19Speaker 3: was probably like my first video on Instagram was probably
- 33:22Speaker 3: about maybe two years ago. Like I'm very like, I
- 33:29Speaker 3: do a lot of work, so it feels like I've
- 33:32Speaker 3: been doing it for so long, but I really am
- 33:33Speaker 3: like new. I just glew up really fast, so I
- 33:36Speaker 3: left the video up. I said, no, I'm leaving it up.
- 33:38Speaker 3: I'm not gonna make this. Let me like, let me
- 33:40Speaker 3: feel less of a person a creator that I'm leaving
- 33:42Speaker 3: it up. By like day three, it went pure. It
- 33:46Speaker 3: went from here all the way down there to Skyrocket.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Didn't pass TikTok and everything.
- 33:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I have that particular video. I'm not sure. I
- 33:53Speaker 3: have to look at the views on that particular one
- 33:55Speaker 3: if it passed TikTok. But that trend that I was doing,
- 33:59Speaker 3: I have multiple videos now on Instagram that has passed
- 34:02Speaker 3: the views on TikTok. But it's just like that one
- 34:05Speaker 3: moment where I was doubting myself and I was going
- 34:07Speaker 3: to delete the video and had I done that, oh
- 34:10Speaker 3: my gosh, I would not have accomplished all the things
- 34:13Speaker 3: that I've accomplished because that one video changed everything for one.
- 34:20Speaker 3: I trend crazy, My followers grew. Every video that I
- 34:24Speaker 3: was posting after that was going bra I was getting
- 34:26Speaker 3: noticed on people, more creators, I want to collab with me.
- 34:29Speaker 3: I was getting I used that traffic, and I started
- 34:32Speaker 3: putting my comedy videos out from that, I have people
- 34:34Speaker 3: notice me for acting, and then I was getting booked
- 34:36Speaker 3: on different stuff and then brand deals for my face card.
- 34:39Speaker 3: And had I not had somebody, and this is why
- 34:41Speaker 3: every time I see her, I just tell her how
- 34:43Speaker 3: much I love I appreciate her because she didn't have
- 34:47Speaker 3: to be like on me host that video. Actually it
- 34:49Speaker 3: was two people at Instagram didn't have to be on
- 34:52Speaker 3: me post that video, posted video. But the fact that
- 34:54Speaker 3: they saw what I was doing on TikTok, believed in me.
- 34:59Speaker 3: It changed everything for me. And that's why it's great
- 35:01Speaker 3: to have people around you that pour into you and
- 35:04Speaker 3: when you doubt yourself, that can see the things that
- 35:06Speaker 3: you can't see. Yeah, because had they not done had
- 35:08Speaker 3: they not done that I wanted to post it, I
- 35:10Speaker 3: would not have posted Yeah, I literally if I didn't
- 35:12Speaker 3: make that promise and say I'm gonna do it because
- 35:14Speaker 3: I'm personally I'm a woman of my word. And if
- 35:16Speaker 3: I say I'm gonna do something and.
- 35:17Speaker 2: It was from someone Instagram director, yeah, yeah, from direct.
- 35:20Speaker 3: So yeah, it just changed. It changed everything for me.
- 35:23Speaker 3: And in that moment, I was like, I try to
- 35:25Speaker 3: be smart about it. I'm like, Okay, I have all
- 35:27Speaker 3: this traffic coming, but I excuse it's gonna happen. I
- 35:33Speaker 3: don't want to be I don't I'm like, I don't
- 35:36Speaker 3: want to just be known as the face card girl.
- 35:39Speaker 3: I also have other things that I like. I'm good
- 35:42Speaker 3: at acting. I'm very comedic. So when that traffic was
- 35:45Speaker 3: coming to my page, I was posting different stuff. Bile
- 35:48Speaker 3: the eyes is there. So I was able to build
- 35:50Speaker 3: a platform where people come to watch me for multiple things. Yeah,
- 35:54Speaker 3: and not just one. Because I feel like when I
- 35:55Speaker 3: started on TikTok, I niche down a bit and it
- 35:59Speaker 3: was a it was hard for me to pull myself
- 36:01Speaker 3: up out of that one niche. Because TikTok first started,
- 36:03Speaker 3: or just social media in general, years ago, it was pickanniche,
- 36:06Speaker 3: stay at niche, staying at niche. Now it's the complete opposite.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Now everybody's doing everything. They're like multifaceted exactly. It took
- 36:13Speaker 3: a while for me to pull myself up out of
- 36:15Speaker 3: that with TikTok. So when the traffics are coming around
- 36:17Speaker 3: on Instagram, I was sweart enough to be like, eh,
- 36:20Speaker 3: like I need to versify itself. Do face card then comedy,
- 36:24Speaker 3: then two face card comedy or comedy comedy face card
- 36:26Speaker 3: like picture. I wanted to make sure that like when
- 36:28Speaker 3: people were coming, they knew right away what they want
- 36:31Speaker 3: to get and they get stuck in his face card world.
- 36:33Speaker 3: And then when I dropped a comedy video, it was
- 36:35Speaker 3: like girl, what is this? Yeah, yeah, okay.
- 36:38Speaker 1: So then you're starting to do acting, You're just starting
- 36:41Speaker 1: to get into acting. Talk about how that morphosis happened.
- 36:47Speaker 3: So I will say with acting, I've done reality TV
- 36:52Speaker 3: and acting, so two different things. But with acting, it
- 36:55Speaker 3: came along with one of my friends is also from Philly.
- 36:59Speaker 3: His name is Jamar. We've known each other for a
- 37:02Speaker 3: long time and I've always been I've always will hit
- 37:05Speaker 3: him up because he shoots movies. He's a director of producer,
- 37:07Speaker 3: and I always him, Hey, I want to act your thing.
- 37:09Speaker 3: I want to add when I got something for you
- 37:11Speaker 3: and let you know, Hey, I want to act your
- 37:13Speaker 3: name when I got something from let you know. And
- 37:15Speaker 3: then one day he called me up and I was
- 37:17Speaker 3: like hello, and he was like, remember I sold you
- 37:18Speaker 3: when I got something for you. I was like, yeah,
- 37:20Speaker 3: I got something four year old like ah. So he
- 37:23Speaker 3: brought me on to my project that's named Maya's House
- 37:27Speaker 3: that's on Prime and to Be and it's trending right
- 37:30Speaker 3: now that I also executive produced as well. He brought
- 37:34Speaker 3: me onto that project with him, and I'm grateful for
- 37:37Speaker 3: that because one it's with somebody that's from Philly, with
- 37:40Speaker 3: somebody who I've known before I blew up on social media.
- 37:44Speaker 3: And also it was just a learning experience. I felt
- 37:47Speaker 3: like it was like a advanced producer actors workshop where
- 37:53Speaker 3: I learned like the difference between creating content actually being
- 37:56Speaker 3: on set and film. Yeah, it was a great experience
- 37:58Speaker 3: with that. And then outside of that with reality TV.
- 38:02Speaker 3: My reality TV came about because of social media. So
- 38:06Speaker 3: from social media and me being viral, casting directors will
- 38:10Speaker 3: see my page and they'll DM me and they will
- 38:12Speaker 3: ask me to audition for different shows and yeah, wow,
- 38:16Speaker 3: And like I said, started with that face card video.
- 38:19Speaker 2: It started with the face card video. But it seems
- 38:22Speaker 2: like there was a lot of determination in there.
- 38:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Oh, because there's a.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Lot of consistency, there's a lot of follow up on
- 38:26Speaker 1: your part, so never given. I think it was like
- 38:29Speaker 1: the creator match, but like you had some serious entrepreneur
- 38:33Speaker 1: and energy. You follow up with your acquaintance at the
- 38:36Speaker 1: time and saying, Okay, there's an opportunity, don't forget I'm here,
- 38:39Speaker 1: I'm available.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Now.
- 38:40Speaker 2: How did the executive producer credit come along with that?
- 38:44Speaker 3: He asked me, but one thing that could produce and
- 38:46Speaker 3: I said yes. So I also was learning the business
- 38:50Speaker 3: side of that as well, which is completely different than
- 38:54Speaker 3: the creator and I had to learn that too. It
- 38:56Speaker 3: was like, okay, certain things like I had to know
- 38:59Speaker 3: that we'll make me be like, oh, well, I had
- 39:01Speaker 3: to know it. And because I am a producer, so
- 39:03Speaker 3: I had to know, Okay, we've reached out to this
- 39:05Speaker 3: person and maybe this person or this company didn't respond,
- 39:07Speaker 3: and then you feel that way. I was the actress,
- 39:09Speaker 3: I wouldn't have to know that rejection.
- 39:11Speaker 1: But also now I want to be I would tell
- 39:14Speaker 1: you you got to handle the business side, so he
- 39:16Speaker 1: must have seen also.
- 39:17Speaker 2: That attribute of your entrepreneurship.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I got to walk aside him with that.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Yeah, that's pretty nice.
- 39:24Speaker 1: That's pretty nice because to add ep to your credit
- 39:26Speaker 1: is like a big deal in the industry.
- 39:29Speaker 2: So where do you want to go from here?
- 39:30Speaker 3: Because of that, now, it inspired me to create my
- 39:34Speaker 3: own like my own stuff as well. So I'm in
- 39:37Speaker 3: the works of creating a show. I can't talk too
- 39:40Speaker 3: much about it, but I'm in the works of creating
- 39:42Speaker 3: another show, and we're also working on part two of
- 39:45Speaker 3: Maya's House. Yeah, I'm just trying to be I'm never
- 39:49Speaker 3: going to leave social media because that's my bread and butter,
- 39:53Speaker 3: my tunnel, yeah, and my foundation, my tunnel to everything.
- 39:56Speaker 3: So I'm never going to stop ever being a content creator.
- 40:00Speaker 3: But my dreams outside of that is to be a
- 40:05Speaker 3: list actress, breaking alongside Carrie Washington, Gabrielle Union, Denzel and
- 40:11Speaker 3: then also producing my own stuff in which I'm already doing.
- 40:16Speaker 2: Yeah, this big deal. So it's a long run.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Now, how long has your career been, Like if you
- 40:21Speaker 1: would say in total from La, just from LA, I.
- 40:24Speaker 3: Will say taking it serious, I will say four years.
- 40:28Speaker 3: So all this has happened and that's why. And it's
- 40:30Speaker 3: crazy because when I moved out here, there are people that,
- 40:33Speaker 3: like in different dynamics. Like when I started off with
- 40:36Speaker 3: posting pictures, there were people who were models. It's like,
- 40:39Speaker 3: gow she's doing that. I want to be like that.
- 40:41Speaker 3: I want to do that when we're with that brand,
- 40:43Speaker 3: and I embodied it. I was surround myself with those
- 40:46Speaker 3: people and then I turned around I was doing the
- 40:48Speaker 3: same thing as them. Wow. And then I applied that
- 40:51Speaker 3: same thing into content creating. And then now it's like
- 40:55Speaker 3: people that I looked up to will see me be like, yeah,
- 40:57Speaker 3: I'm so proud of you. You inspired me so much.
- 40:59Speaker 3: And I'm like, huh, but you don't even know you
- 41:02Speaker 3: inspire me, Like what, that's a blessing. So yeah, it's cool.
- 41:07Speaker 3: It's like it's it's like I know what's happening, but
- 41:09Speaker 3: at the same time, it's like I haven't really fully
- 41:12Speaker 3: taken it in. And that's one thing I do need
- 41:14Speaker 3: to work on is that I've constantly like this, yeah,
- 41:17Speaker 3: so I don't really get to sit. Even when my
- 41:20Speaker 3: billboard we were out at complex kind of my billboard
- 41:23Speaker 3: went up and they were like congratulations, and I was like,
- 41:25Speaker 3: what you know? I know, because I'm always like, you're
- 41:29Speaker 3: onto the next thing, right, But I need to sit
- 41:32Speaker 3: in those moments and appreciate that because these are things
- 41:34Speaker 3: that I've like literally cried on my knees, like for
- 41:37Speaker 3: God to give me the strength, or like when I
- 41:39Speaker 3: felt like I wasn't good enough when I got the nose,
- 41:42Speaker 3: because I've gotten plenty, plenty of nose. I got nose
- 41:44Speaker 3: from people that I work with now and you have
- 41:47Speaker 3: you're ildy. But also knowing not to be bitter because
- 41:54Speaker 3: I know it does not mean you're not good. It
- 41:56Speaker 3: just means just in that moment, it's not for you,
- 41:59Speaker 3: maybe for somebody else, Maybe maybe that role was for
- 42:02Speaker 3: You'll go into audition and you'll think like I killed
- 42:06Speaker 3: that audition, and then somebody got over you. But it's
- 42:08Speaker 3: because the eyes or their hair remind them of their niece.
- 42:12Speaker 3: It literally can be down to that thing. It doesn't
- 42:14Speaker 3: even have to be or that person is somebody who's
- 42:17Speaker 3: a part of a friend group and relationships and stuff.
- 42:19Speaker 2: So did it take you a long time to view
- 42:22Speaker 2: rejection like that?
- 42:23Speaker 3: Yes, it did, because I used to take a like,
- 42:26Speaker 3: oh my goodness, I suck, but I from the hard
- 42:30Speaker 3: work that I put in, I know that I don't suck.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I know yourself made Yeah exactly.
- 42:37Speaker 3: So I'm like, I'm human. So it's still hurts. You'll
- 42:40Speaker 3: feel it, But then I have to sweep my mind
- 42:42Speaker 3: and be like, this ain't for you. You're gonna look
- 42:44Speaker 3: back and something else is going to happen. You'll be like, God,
- 42:46Speaker 3: is that I can get that. That's why. So we
- 42:49Speaker 3: just got to take those moments and learn from it.
- 42:52Speaker 1: I think it's interesting too, because the industry has definitely
- 42:55Speaker 1: shifted to more of a social media slash industry. You
- 43:00Speaker 1: have all these mainstream actors, actresses, you'll see them buddy
- 43:03Speaker 1: up with content creators. One of the guys I watches,
- 43:05Speaker 1: I think his name is something Stallion. He like does
- 43:08Speaker 1: the camera and the phone and CALLI Berry, Michael B.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Jordan's Why am I messing up? I don't remember his name.
- 43:16Speaker 1: I want him on the show too, But Jordan.
- 43:21Speaker 3: Jordan?
- 43:21Speaker 2: But could I want him on the show so bad?
- 43:23Speaker 3: Yes? Remember that John got out the part of me
- 43:26Speaker 3: thinking remember that?
- 43:27Speaker 1: But no, But the truth is, you start to see
- 43:30Speaker 1: this so I feel like the fact that you mastered
- 43:32Speaker 1: the harder one, in my opinion, The harder one is
- 43:35Speaker 1: social media because to get past that algorithm, to get
- 43:37Speaker 1: past kind of learning what works and what doesn't.
- 43:41Speaker 3: I still have my days though. I still had my
- 43:43Speaker 3: days where I put up a video and I was like, oh,
- 43:46Speaker 3: I thought this was gold and it ain't doing nothing.
- 43:49Speaker 3: And one of my friends, King Batch, I remember one
- 43:52Speaker 3: time I had message him and I'm like, I want
- 43:54Speaker 3: to I was like, I want to post my face
- 43:56Speaker 3: card videos to my own songs I did in my
- 43:58Speaker 3: own face card song. I was like, I want to
- 44:00Speaker 3: post my face card video to my own song because
- 44:02Speaker 3: before I was using a different song. And I was like,
- 44:05Speaker 3: but I don't know, like if people I want to
- 44:07Speaker 3: see it again. And he just was like, girl, just
- 44:09Speaker 3: post your stuff. An't nobody paying that much attention like this.
- 44:15Speaker 3: He's like, just post it and if it don't do well,
- 44:19Speaker 3: archive it, delete it whatever. It's not the end of
- 44:21Speaker 3: the world, I really think, especially when you get numbers.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I see you're definitely paying attention to it. I
- 44:25Speaker 2: could see you. You get your highs and your lowers,
- 44:28Speaker 2: pressures on pressures.
- 44:29Speaker 3: I posted the video today and I was like, if
- 44:31Speaker 3: it don't hit certain my views, I'm an archive it.
- 44:34Speaker 3: But then sometimes if.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Even after your three day story, I want to.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Say, sometimes I might really like you could now play
- 44:41Speaker 3: I can tell. But sometimes I really like a video
- 44:44Speaker 3: and I would let it sit and see what to do.
- 44:46Speaker 3: But if it don't, I would say for a video
- 44:50Speaker 3: like if it if it's under the hint and k like,
- 44:53Speaker 3: I'm okay with it, might love with the views and
- 44:57Speaker 3: if it's good content as well, because you and still
- 45:00Speaker 3: get brand deals and stuff from videos that aren't viral.
- 45:03Speaker 3: And that's the thing when brands come, they don't just look. Yes,
- 45:07Speaker 3: analytics do play a part, but also you as a
- 45:10Speaker 3: content creator. And so it might be a good video,
- 45:12Speaker 3: it might just didn't go viral, but the brand I
- 45:14Speaker 3: look at it, it might still like it.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, educate us. Yes what am I?
- 45:19Speaker 3: I did a brand deal for a face card and
- 45:23Speaker 3: my my video is the concept of the whole pitch
- 45:27Speaker 3: deck that they sent out to creators and the video
- 45:30Speaker 3: that they use is the one with the least amount
- 45:32Speaker 3: of use. I was like, oh, they chose to use
- 45:35Speaker 3: this one as the My mom would be like whatever
- 45:37Speaker 3: one got the most view. Yeah, but no, they chose
- 45:39Speaker 3: to use the one that had the least amount of
- 45:41Speaker 3: views as the blueprint to send out to the creators
- 45:44Speaker 3: to have them.
- 45:44Speaker 2: That's interesting what the deal is.
- 45:46Speaker 3: Yeah, So that's why now I'm not really too If
- 45:49Speaker 3: I really love the video, like it's a great video.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I would be like, no, we gotta have a
- 45:55Speaker 2: three day rule. Yeah, three days.
- 45:57Speaker 3: Yeah. But like I said, if it don't, if it's
- 46:00Speaker 3: like at three thousand and it's, no, it's getting archived.
- 46:04Speaker 1: But I do like that the content creators and seem
- 46:07Speaker 1: to support each other, like Badge and Storm and all
- 46:10Speaker 1: that whole crew. I feel like you guys really kind
- 46:13Speaker 1: of like the artistry and the commoditory, and I think
- 46:16Speaker 1: that really helps you guys collectively slash individually. I love
- 46:21Speaker 1: that part about content creators.
- 46:23Speaker 3: I learned a lot from Batch when I when I
- 46:25Speaker 3: started doing content with him. I came in doing content
- 46:29Speaker 3: where there's videos where there's no talking, Like you can
- 46:33Speaker 3: get the picture by my movement and the music that
- 46:35Speaker 3: I match up. You can fully get the picture. But
- 46:37Speaker 3: he does a lot of content where he's talking. Oh
- 46:42Speaker 3: it's to be so nervous pulled up to shoot content
- 46:44Speaker 3: with him because I was like, he's the top content creator.
- 46:47Speaker 3: So I'm like, I have to be perfect when I'm
- 46:49Speaker 3: going here, Like I don't want them looking at me,
- 46:51Speaker 3: like I don't want them being like she's flowing us down,
- 46:53Speaker 3: Like I'm a perfectionist, So like I have to be perfect,
- 46:55Speaker 3: per perfect. And then just filming with him, I just
- 46:58Speaker 3: learned one you don't have to be perfect. Two the
- 47:01Speaker 3: way to edit certain things like how long something should
- 47:04Speaker 3: be in the clip? How long? How long?
- 47:06Speaker 1: Well, yeah, because they but they mastered that six second.
- 47:08Speaker 1: They mastered that Vine like they're they're the bad storm
- 47:12Speaker 1: Leanne Hannah's whole crew. You gotta remember that whole crew
- 47:17Speaker 1: was the Vine, the originals, and those guys were nailing
- 47:20Speaker 1: full comedic.
- 47:21Speaker 2: You get the full edits and and six seconds.
- 47:25Speaker 1: And that's the difference I think between when I talk
- 47:27Speaker 1: to Wayne is like Wayne shoots a.
- 47:30Speaker 2: Skit like one take. He don't do no edits. You
- 47:32Speaker 2: do you take in your post. Yeah, but that crew
- 47:36Speaker 2: I know the I know some of them.
- 47:37Speaker 1: I don't know Batch personally. Shout out to Batch because
- 47:40Speaker 1: you haven't been on the show. We didn't invite you though,
- 47:43Speaker 1: But though that those guys really mastered the art of editing.
- 47:46Speaker 1: And really capturing that comedic element. But I think because
- 47:49Speaker 1: they came from the six second Life, I can only imagine.
- 47:52Speaker 1: But their shoot schedules, from what I remember back in
- 47:55Speaker 1: the day, it was like they would pick a day
- 47:56Speaker 1: and they would just bang out like as many ideas
- 47:59Speaker 1: as possible.
- 47:59Speaker 3: That's how I shoot, Oh, for really, I will pick
- 48:02Speaker 3: a day, I'll see what friends are free. I will
- 48:05Speaker 3: bang out as many videos as I can until I
- 48:07Speaker 3: feel like I can't think no more.
- 48:09Speaker 2: Okay, but yeah, I like that. And are you looking
- 48:11Speaker 2: for videos that are more relatable? Because I feel like
- 48:14Speaker 2: that's where the comedy lies.
- 48:16Speaker 3: I do stuff that's relatable. I also as far as
- 48:18Speaker 3: the collaborate, No, when you create content. Oh yeah, oh
- 48:21Speaker 3: I'm all relatable. I do a lot of stuff that's
- 48:23Speaker 3: relatable to women, friendship, relationships and stuff like that. So yeah,
- 48:28Speaker 3: I'm like, I'm your relatable girl for sure.
- 48:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
