- 0:27All right, folks. So welcome to bur most powerful radio.
- 0:29You are listening to the Dr. Lu Sandoval show as always.
- 0:32It's a pleasure to be here, to talk about our Catholic faith. Our here,
- 0:36here at the clinic at the medical clinic, we talk about our spiritual health,
- 0:39our physical health and our mental health today's show. Very important.
- 0:43I'm sure many of you heard last week, uh, actor shy Lauff uh,
- 0:47said that he is very passionate about the Catholic faith and it's all over the
- 0:52internet. It's got, you know,
- 0:53different people talking and have different opinions about it.
- 0:55And what does this mean? Uh,
- 0:57it's important for us to talk about this as Catholics. Uh,
- 1:00assuming most of our listeners are either baptized Catholics,
- 1:03passionate CRI Catholics already.
- 1:05Why would this be important to talk about what does this mean for us now,
- 1:09we're gonna talk about this today and we're gonna see what does it mean to have
- 1:12passion about our faith versus just being a lukewarm Catholic.
- 1:15These are important concepts to think about,
- 1:18but first let's start with Angelus and the name of the father of the center of
- 1:21the holy spirit, amen.
- 1:22The angel of the Lord declared into Mary and she conceded with the holy spirit,
- 1:26hail Mary full of grace. The Lord is with the blessed,
- 1:29our thou amongst women and blessed it as the fruit of I womb Jesus,
- 1:32holy Mary mother of God. Pray for us sinners now. And at the hour of our death,
- 1:36amen. Behold, the hand of the Lord, be it done into me. According to the I word,
- 1:40hail Mary full of grace.
- 1:41The Lord is with the blessed at art thou amongst women and blessed it as the
- 1:45fruit of th wo Jesus, holy Mary mother of God.
- 1:48Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
- 1:51And the word was made flesh and DILT among us hail Mary full of grace.
- 1:55The Lord is with the blessed at Artha amongst women and blessed.
- 1:58It is the fruit of th wo Jesus, holy Mary mother of God.
- 2:02Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, amen.
- 2:05Pray for us a holy mother of God,
- 2:07that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
- 2:10Let us pray poor forth would be speeched to the oh Lord,
- 2:13that grace into our hearts that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ,
- 2:16that son was made known by the message of an angel made by his passion in
- 2:20Christ. Be brought to the glory of his resurrection through the same Christ,
- 2:23our Lord, amen, St. Michael, the Ark angel defend us in battle,
- 2:27be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil made God
- 2:31rebuke.
- 2:31And we humbly pray and do thou prince of the heavenly host by the power of God,
- 2:35cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl around the world,
- 2:38seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
- 2:41And with the father under the son of the holy spirit, amen. Well folks,
- 2:45you know, a big commotion, a lot of talk about this, you know, actor Shilah,
- 2:48both well known actor. I always thought he was a great actor. Uh,
- 2:51the movies I saw, uh, that he came out in, he was very convincing in his roles,
- 2:56but I know that there was a lot of turmoil going on with him in Hollywood.
- 2:59There were, uh, episodes where it seemed like he was not doing well.
- 3:03I don't know all the inner workings of Hollywood.
- 3:05So I can't tell you what was going on, who he needed to talk to,
- 3:08not talk to if he upset somebody or not. I don't follow the tabloids that much,
- 3:12but I remember that he got to a point at one, uh,
- 3:15one time that I saw a few years back, there was an award show or something is,
- 3:19you know, Hollywood always does. Uh,
- 3:21and he showed up to the award show and I believe he had a paper bag on his head
- 3:24and on it, he wrote, I used to be famous.
- 3:27And so the question is who was the man behind this paper bag?
- 3:30And at that point I realized when I saw that I had found out later that it was
- 3:34him who had shown up that way. Um,
- 3:36it didn't make me think a lot of people thought, oh, he's washed up.
- 3:39He's a bad actor or something along those lines,
- 3:41but I just thought something's going on. You know, is this a publicity stunt?
- 3:44What is what's going on with him? Um,
- 3:47the important thing to consider is that there,
- 3:50if we hear his story and we're gonna read a little bit about what he says in,
- 3:53in some of his interviews, uh,
- 3:54if anybody saw he had an interview with Bishop Barron, uh, great interview, uh,
- 3:59and it was just very honest, a very honest interview,
- 4:01but what I did notice about him was that everything that he talked about and
- 4:05everything he was, he was describing in terms of his experience, uh,
- 4:10of turning Catholic now,
- 4:11because he was offered this role to portray by the Debo,
- 4:15which is obviously is a huge Saint for us as Catholics, who, uh,
- 4:18a lot of people looked at him as an ultimate mystic had the stigma, but for,
- 4:23uh, HIL above to be called to this role,
- 4:26it really reminds us at a certain point for us as Catholics,
- 4:30there are no coincidences. There are no coincidences.
- 4:33And why do I say this in terms of, well,
- 4:36we gotta talk about this in light of what it means to be a lukewarm Catholic,
- 4:39because God chooses us based on our passion.
- 4:43And God wants us to have passion one way or another. So let's start with that.
- 4:47I'm gonna look at the Bible here. This is the book of revelation. Okay.
- 4:50Chapter three. And we're gonna look at starting in verse 14, uh,
- 4:55we're gonna go 14 to 22. We're gonna read this.
- 4:57This is gonna be important in understanding why it is that we are fascinated
- 5:02when somebody, uh, say hits rock bottom, as we say,
- 5:05or seems appears to lose everything in the eyes of the public.
- 5:08And yet they come back and they tell you, no, you know what?
- 5:11When I was losing everything, I actually had everything.
- 5:13And that's when I saw it. I couldn't see that everything was there before.
- 5:16Cause I was chasing the wrong things.
- 5:18The problem is when we're lukewarm Catholics, this is what Christ tells us.
- 5:21And this is sad. He says, I know your works.
- 5:23You are neither hot or cold would that you were cold or hot.
- 5:29So because you are Luke warm and either cold or hot,
- 5:32I will spew you outta my mouth for you say, I am rich.
- 5:36I have prospered. And I need nothing. Not knowing that you are wretched,
- 5:41pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.
- 5:44Therefore I counsel you to buy for me, gold refined by fire,
- 5:48that you may be rich and white garments to clothe you and to keep the shame of
- 5:53your nakedness from being seen and solve to anoint your eyes,
- 5:57that you may see those whom I love, I reprove and chase them.
- 6:02So be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
- 6:06If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,
- 6:09I will come into him and eat with him. And he, with me,
- 6:13he who conquers.
- 6:15I will grant him to sit with me on my throne as I,
- 6:19myself conquered and sat down with my father on his throne.
- 6:22He who has an ear. Let him here with his spirit, says to the churches,
- 6:28again, this is very powerful. And this,
- 6:29this should really kind of wake us up and give us a wake up call. Um,
- 6:34because as Catholics, I gotta ask myself before anything else.
- 6:36And before we get into any stories, where am I in my Catholic faith? Am I,
- 6:40you know, we go through Hills and valleys. We say, and that's a good thing.
- 6:44The hill, the Hills, obviously we're on top of the hill.
- 6:46We're feeling so faithful. We're feeling, feeling so enrich in our faith.
- 6:49We want to pray more. We want to go to mass.
- 6:51We wanna be there and receive the Eucharist.
- 6:53And we're at the peak and we feel so great. That's wonderful. We hit the valley.
- 6:57We feel dry. We feel angry. We feel like God left us. And,
- 7:01and we feel we have no recourse. And we wonder, where are you? God,
- 7:04I feel empty. That's actually a good thing. It's not necessarily bad.
- 7:08Why it doesn't feel good,
- 7:10but it's a good thing in the sense that there is still some passion there,
- 7:12that there is still some desire for God that we still want to want God,
- 7:17because we are saddened by his absence. And maybe in that absence, we decide,
- 7:21you know what? Forget it, God, it seems like you're not here. I'm gonna go sin.
- 7:25I don't care. What's what difference does it make? You don't care about my life?
- 7:28You don't care about me. I'm just gonna take off. Why not? Because it's,
- 7:31it's not like you're looking on my shoulder anymore. Guess what?
- 7:34In the midst of all that sin,
- 7:36there is still some passion because it's a rebellious and it's a rebellion
- 7:39against God. Not that the sin is good. Okay.
- 7:42I don't want any of our listeners to email me later and say, Dr.
- 7:44Sandwell you said it was good to send. No.
- 7:46What I'm saying is that the goodness is that the passion still exists because
- 7:50God can work with that.
- 7:51But if we fall into what we see a lot in our modern
- 7:56day society where it's like, eh, you know, I really don't care if there's a God,
- 8:00not a God, I don't care. Doesn't make a difference to me.
- 8:02If Jesus is the true Lord and the king of Kings.
- 8:05And if the Eucharist really is the body and blood of Christ, well,
- 8:08I'm not gonna tell you. It's not, I'm not gonna tell you it is.
- 8:11I'm just gonna say, I'm not gonna look into it. What does Jesus say about that?
- 8:14Let's read this again. He says so because you are Luke warm.
- 8:17That's what it means to be look warm. Really?
- 8:19It means that I don't care either way. I'm not hot. I'm not cold.
- 8:22I don't have any fire. I'm not white hot. And I'm not hot with fire either.
- 8:26It's just kind of just there. God is just maybe there, but doesn't matter to me.
- 8:31I don't care. Uh, this is what he says.
- 8:33So because you are lukewarm and neither cold or hot,
- 8:35I will spew you out of my mouth. What do we spew out of our mouth?
- 8:39Something that's disgusting. Something that's spoiled,
- 8:42rotten something I don't want to put in my mouth because it's bad.
- 8:45Spew just needs to spit it out without even thinking twice about it.
- 8:48Throw it in the trash. It's no good. It's almost when,
- 8:51like when you eat a rotten piece of fruit, you didn't know it was rotten.
- 8:53It might look good on the outside.
- 8:54You take a bite and you realize the taste is just awful. It's off.
- 8:58You get that in your mouth. Boy. You're just gonna spit that out.
- 9:00And you're gonna think, I never wanna taste that again. And in fact,
- 9:03I'm gonna keep spitting to make sure every little last piece is gone. Why,
- 9:06why does a Luke warmness really hurt our Lord? He says, because for you say,
- 9:12I am rich. I have prospered. And I need nothing.
- 9:15Not knowing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.
- 9:20Why is that? Because we get comfortable. That's really what that means.
- 9:23All of a sudden we seek out these worldly goods and we say, Hey,
- 9:27I'm doing pretty good financially. I'm comfortable. I, I drive the car. I want,
- 9:30I have the house I want, in fact, I can get more things and I'm very,
- 9:34very comfortable. I don't need to seek out God anymore. I'm all good.
- 9:37Whether there's a God or not. It doesn't matter because I'm here. That's fine.
- 9:41And Jesus is saying, actually the truth is you're wretched, pitiable,
- 9:45poor, blind, and naked. I would dare say that out of all of those,
- 9:49the most important, uh, uh, descriptive there, it's not the wretched,
- 9:52the pitiable, the poor or the naked.
- 9:54I would say it's the blind because you are all these things,
- 9:56but you can't see it. And that's when he goes on to say,
- 10:00and I hope this happens to all of a, at some point,
- 10:02I know it's happened to me in my life.
- 10:03He says those whom I love I reprove and chase them. So be zealous and repent.
- 10:08I think that part's really important because all of a sudden,
- 10:11if we are just Luke warm and we're hanging out and we're saying, you know what,
- 10:15eh, whether it's a God or not, doesn't really matter. Whether it's, you know,
- 10:19heaven, hell doesn't really matter to me. That doesn't matter. Who cares.
- 10:23If there's not turmoil in our lives,
- 10:25it probably tells me that God's gonna say the same thing. He's gonna say, okay,
- 10:28well, you don't care. Why should I care about you? Should I care about you?
- 10:32This is the important part about being passionate. And this is why it's easy.
- 10:37I think as we try to follow the faith, as we really say, you know what?
- 10:41I thank God. I'm not Luke warm. I go through the Hills and the valleys.
- 10:44And when I'm on a hill, boy,
- 10:46I really enjoy that because I feel like I'm in good with God.
- 10:48When I'm in a valley, I feel like I'm still trying to seek God.
- 10:51And I still have that passion for God.
- 10:53But one of the challenges that happens is if we stay on that hill,
- 10:57if we're just roaming that hill, if we're up on top,
- 10:59if we're at the peak and we never come down,
- 11:01it's very easy to look down on other people.
- 11:04Instead of realizing that I was once down and I need to help people come up this
- 11:08mountain, that can be really, really challenging.
- 11:10And this is where the Luke warmness can't work with it all.
- 11:12When we're on the hill, we're passionate about God,
- 11:15but we run the risk of looking down on people and something in the realm of
- 11:20Hollywood and actors. This is where I, I gotta say,
- 11:23it's hard not to judge sometimes because you,
- 11:25we look at people in Hollywood and we say, how could you do that?
- 11:27You're headed your whole life ahead of you. You've got everything.
- 11:29You've got money. You've got fame. Isn't that everything you wanted.
- 11:32And yet you're still not happy what what's going on,
- 11:34or you're you're into drugs and womanizing and things of that nature.
- 11:38What's wrong with you. It's easy to judge,
- 11:40but we gotta remember at some point we're gonna be there too.
- 11:43We're gonna be challenged. And we're, it's easy for us to fall.
- 11:46So as we're in that hill and we find that passion,
- 11:49we gotta look down and bring those people who are not yet passionate,
- 11:52help them come up to our end of things. And we're gonna see the house,
- 11:55how that happened to Shire books when we come back from the break.
- 12:02Wow.
- 12:04All right. Well, welcome back to Virgin. Most powerful radio as always.
- 12:07It is a pleasure to be here with our listeners. You are listening to the Dr.
- 12:10Lu hand of all show. And here at the clinic today,
- 12:12we were talking about some important topics. Now,
- 12:15the main topic that we're talking about is the conversion story.
- 12:18Shall we say that sh buff, the actor in Hollywood has shared with us last week.
- 12:23It was a very, very powerful story.
- 12:24I kind of want to go through it a little bit, uh, for our listeners.
- 12:27I think it's helpful.
- 12:28And I think that when we hear stories like this of somebody famous, who says,
- 12:32you know, I found the truth and it was in the Catholic church.
- 12:36If nothing else that should revive our hearts to remember what we already have.
- 12:41Um, it's easy to forget.
- 12:42And then I think that the reason that we can become Luke warm or we can become
- 12:46very comfortable in our faith is because it's like I share with people.
- 12:49You know,
- 12:49if you live near an amazing place or let's pretend that you were to live in
- 12:54Disneyland,
- 12:54and that was your home and you woke up there every day and you walked around the
- 12:58park and you could ride the rides at any time and you could, you know,
- 13:02taste the food there at any time and live the experience of Disneyland every
- 13:05single day. I think after a while, it's easy to get jaded,
- 13:07even though it is a destination of vacation destination for so many people who
- 13:12want to go there, who are willing to spend tons of money to go there, uh,
- 13:17airplane trip, hotel,
- 13:18and really milk everything that Disneyland has to offer for them,
- 13:21because they've never been there before.
- 13:23And in such a world renowned park versus a person who's already living there
- 13:26says, yeah, it's, it's kind of cool, but sometimes it's easy to get Luke warm,
- 13:31but then you see somebody who hasn't been there,
- 13:33who's willing to spend all this money to go there.
- 13:35Who's willing to make a whole actual trip of it.
- 13:38And you start to see the park through their eyes again.
- 13:41And it starts to remind you, yeah, this is a powerful place.
- 13:43I forgot how powerful this was. Why cuz it was always there.
- 13:46And I think that can happen to us as Catholics, anytime where we say, gosh,
- 13:50you know, I go to church. Yeah, of course. I go to mess on Sundays. Yeah,
- 13:52of course. I, I uh, um, can go receive the Eucharist. Yeah.
- 13:55I go pray in front of the blessed sacrament, big deal, right?
- 13:58Doesn't mean much to me anymore. I've lost that fervor. That sense of, wow,
- 14:02there is something mystical happening here and I realized more than anything
- 14:06else. I mean,
- 14:06I could easily say that happened to me where I realized that that could be going
- 14:10on in my life or was going on in my life at some time.
- 14:11And I didn't realize it until the COVID quarantine.
- 14:14When all a sudden everything shut down, the churches shut down.
- 14:17We didn't always have access to the sacraments. Whoa, that was eyeopening. Wait,
- 14:21I need that. I forgot how important that was. I think.
- 14:25Or shall I say I didn't appreciate it after a while, until it was gone,
- 14:29that was like a rock bottom for a lot of us Catholic spiritually speaking,
- 14:32saying, whoa, wait, what just happened? And it made me think,
- 14:35do I appreciate what I already have?
- 14:36Sometimes it takes that it takes Christ hiding from us, so to speak, uh,
- 14:41whether it be due a quarantine and the churches shut down and all of a sudden
- 14:45there's no access to the sacraments, to the Eucharist.
- 14:47That can be very eyeopening for a lot of people and say, whoa, it's like,
- 14:51God has hidden from me or has take, has been taken away from me. Where's God,
- 14:54what am I gonna do? Now? I feel an emptiness that was very,
- 14:58very real and powerful. That can happen to us.
- 15:01The other thing that can happen though,
- 15:02is sometimes we start getting into this life of sin because we feel that there's
- 15:05meaningless or life is meaningless or we don't appreciate what's going on around
- 15:10us anymore. Just the ability or the fact that we exist.
- 15:13Sometimes we can't even appreciate that. And we hit what we call rock bottom.
- 15:17We're not living a life that would be pleasing to God. And what does God do?
- 15:21He comes down and as he told us in the book of revelation,
- 15:24he will punish us and chasing us. Why? Because he loves us. It's an irony.
- 15:29It's an irony that we don't always understand.
- 15:31God gives us punishment because he loves us. We see it as punishment.
- 15:34He sees it as, let me open your eyes.
- 15:37But there was this article that I saw here. I mean,
- 15:39there's a lot articles right now. If you look online, uh,
- 15:41but this one in particular caught my eye because why?
- 15:43One of the things that I really appreciated about HIL Lebo is that he was honest
- 15:47while being respectful, uh, to other people of what his,
- 15:51what he experienced of his sins. He was very honest about it.
- 15:54He was very candid. He just bore his heart out. And,
- 15:56but he was respectful of other people who didn't name names.
- 15:59He didn't go into detail about what he did. He just like everybody else.
- 16:02Heck I'm a sinner. We're all sinners. I can't blame him.
- 16:05I can't judge him because it's his personal relationship with Christ right now
- 16:09that he is wrestling with, which is something that reminds me is we,
- 16:12we all need to be doing.
- 16:13If we're not wrestling with that relationship with Christ,
- 16:15we gotta ask ourselves, are we lukewarm?
- 16:17We can wrestle it when things are going well.
- 16:20And all of a sudden things are going well, we think, ah, I, I can handle sin.
- 16:23I can do something. Why not just one time.
- 16:25It's kinda like people who are alcoholic and say, I can have one more drink.
- 16:28Right? That's okay. Now I think I can control it. Sometimes. We're like that.
- 16:31I think I can control, you know, the sentence just in a little bit. It's okay.
- 16:34It's not bad because I'm just gonna do it one time that can happen.
- 16:37That's easily easy, easily happening, uh,
- 16:39to people because that's the way our human nature is.
- 16:42That's the way our lives work bullet through this article, listen to this title.
- 16:45So shilov says he has cheated on every woman he has ever been with. Now,
- 16:50obviously an eye catching, uh, title, very powerful statement.
- 16:53He's cheated on every woman he's been with.
- 16:55But what it doesn't tell you is let's see what the story goes.
- 16:58What goes on with the story. So we know this information. So what,
- 17:01what does that mean? Does that mean that he's happy to stay in?
- 17:03That is quotes him saying I was a pleasure seeking selfish.
- 17:07Self-centered dishonest, inconsiderate, fearful human being. He said,
- 17:12Hey, I'm right there with you, buddy. I've been there. I can, all those things.
- 17:15I can't sit here and judge him when I know that my human nature and all of our
- 17:19human natures drive us into being selfish and self-centered and all these things
- 17:23go through this article a little bit.
- 17:25So HIL above gave a candid two hour interview about the abuse allegations that
- 17:29have been made against him,
- 17:30admitting that he has been unfaithful to every woman he has been with in
- 17:34December, 2020 HIL Lobo's ex-girlfriend, uh, sued him for relentless abuse,
- 17:39including battery assault, infliction of emotional distress,
- 17:42sexual battery Lauff later denied causing his ex-girlfriend any injuries or loss
- 17:47saying that she was not entitled to any relief or damages whatsoever.
- 17:51That's what he had said in that interview a couple years back.
- 17:54But then in the new interview, uh,
- 17:56he was interviewed with a friend of his and he, this is what, what, uh,
- 18:00Lebo says. Lebo said, I'm gonna clean up a little bit.
- 18:01Cuz he used some four letter words in strong language, but he said,
- 18:04I messed up real bad, like crash and burn type stuff.
- 18:08I heard a lot of people and I'm fully aware of that.
- 18:10And I'm going to owe for the rest of my life.
- 18:13You know what child above had there. He had a moment of metanoia.
- 18:16He had a moment where he had, he was able to,
- 18:19God gave him the gift to be able to see his sins and it was
- 18:24ugly. And he realized what he realized there.
- 18:27I'm going to owe the rest of my life. We all should feel that way about any sin.
- 18:30We've committed. Why? Cuz we've gotta remember that. Anything we've committed,
- 18:33the price is eternal damnation. I gotta owe as so long as I'm here on earth.
- 18:37I gotta keep paying back for that.
- 18:38Yes it is forgiven in the confessional and yes we could say, well, Dr. Sandoval,
- 18:43but I did a, a plenary indulgence. So everything should be gone,
- 18:46but I still wanna make up for that in the eyes of God. Why?
- 18:49Because when I die here, if I go to purgatory, okay, fine. I'm gonna keep,
- 18:53you know, Purg there and I'm gonna keep making it up for there,
- 18:56but I wanna get straight to heaven. I don't want to keep sending it.
- 18:59I wanna make sure that any sin I've committed before gets cleaned up entirely.
- 19:03That's what he say. He said,
- 19:04I had a long list of people that I need to make amends to admitting that he has
- 19:08cheated on every woman who's ever been with and never told his partners about
- 19:12getting cold tours, which he acknowledged was manipulative. It's a real,
- 19:15you know, we can look at that and we can say what a jerk.
- 19:17He was totally manipulative. I don't wanna judge him that way. I,
- 19:20I gotta say that's a real moment of honesty right there to be able to say, Hey,
- 19:24you know what? I think I did this, I messed up. I did this.
- 19:27And I realize I was manipulative. You know, I,
- 19:30I remember going to confession one time confessing, something like that,
- 19:32where I think, you know what father, I think I was manipulative. Um,
- 19:36and I felt like the biggest scum of the earth. And I just thought, this is,
- 19:41this is the truth.
- 19:41I think I was in a situation where I maybe I manipulated people. I,
- 19:44I did things to get my own way. And you know what the priest said to me,
- 19:48I was waiting for him to say, boy, you're, you're just wretched. You're awful.
- 19:51He said, what a beautiful confession. And I started crying like a baby.
- 19:56That's all I remember happening. Why?
- 19:58Because it was this moment where my heart was just ripped out.
- 20:00And it was just a moment of honesty. And I would dare say Shiloh, both.
- 20:03That's kind of what he experienced. It's so, so beautiful. If you,
- 20:06if you see the interview he had with Bishop Barron,
- 20:08you can tell that he's a man whose heart is turning to Christ and he's yearning
- 20:13for more of Christ and Christ will do that to us.
- 20:14When we're honest with ourselves,
- 20:16when we recognize and realize I've been retched,
- 20:18Christ is gonna take that and he's gonna say, well,
- 20:20come on and let's get better. And that healing process, it's gonna be painful,
- 20:24but boy, it's gonna be worth it. He goes on to say, I hurt that woman.
- 20:27And then the process of doing it, he's talking about next girlfriend.
- 20:29I hurt many other people and many other people before that woman,
- 20:33I was a pleasure seeking. We read this part before. Pleasure seeking selfish.
- 20:36Self-centered dishonest, inconsiderate, fearful human being.
- 20:40When I think about what my life has become and what it is now,
- 20:44like what my purpose is now I need to be useful.
- 20:49And when I look at this, me too movement,
- 20:51there's not a whole lot of dudes that are taking accountability.
- 20:54So he's admitting that he's in a place where he wants to be useful.
- 20:57And what does that mean? I think that out of everything,
- 20:58that's the most important part. I want to be useful.
- 21:02I think at that point for us as Catholics, when we look at that,
- 21:04I want to be useful. It's really a moment of saying,
- 21:08I want to do what my intended purpose is here.
- 21:10And that intended purpose is whatever mission God gave me.
- 21:14I want to start the mission that God gave me. I want to lean my life.
- 21:18I want to lead my life. I want to walk down that path that God made me.
- 21:22And that's how I know that I'm a useful human being.
- 21:24How many times did we go through life?
- 21:25Feeling like I'm no good or I'm good for nothing or I am not useful. What,
- 21:29why am I even here?
- 21:30And we forget that there's that moment that Christ is trying to reach out.
- 21:33And he's the one beating our hearts and he's saying, stay alive.
- 21:36I need you for something. Look at what's going on.
- 21:39We think that our hearts beat just, you know, out of the blue,
- 21:41well kind of they do, you know, there's a sign on atrial node.
- 21:44The hearts just beating on its own. There's nothing.
- 21:47Where does the beat come from? He really has.
- 21:48It has a center there where it just kind of starts on its own.
- 21:52That's where God lives in our hearts. God is the one leading that beat.
- 21:55So anyway,
- 21:56he goes on to say that when his accuser first made allegations of him,
- 22:00he wanted to hit Twitter. And he says,
- 22:02I wanted to hit tweet Twitter and be like, look, I got receipts.
- 22:05But then he realized that his accuser is a Saint and saved my life.
- 22:11He goes on to say that his accuser saved my life. Why he says,
- 22:15had she not intervened in my life and not created the avenue for me to
- 22:20experience ego death,
- 22:22I'd either have a real mediocre existence or I'd be dead and full notice.
- 22:27He didn't say he'd have passion one way or the other.
- 22:29He didn't say he have hatred. He, he said,
- 22:30he'd be dead in full or have a mediocre existence.
- 22:32That's not Luke Warren part mediocre existence, no big deal.
- 22:35But what did he experience that he says, thank you to her for, or he's saying,
- 22:39he didn't say thank you directly.
- 22:40But he's saying if she had not intervened in my life,
- 22:42it had not created an avenue for me to experience ego death.
- 22:46I think that that's where we all gotta stand. I gotta let go of my ego.
- 22:50If I hear about somebody else's sins, I better not start judging. You know,
- 22:53this is where it's a problem. If,
- 22:54if anybody tries to listen in on somebody's confession, that's a problem.
- 22:58That's a big sin. Why?
- 22:59Because that confession that moment where we acknowledge it,
- 23:02that's my relationship with Christ. I can't judge your relationship with Christ.
- 23:06And here he has the courage to share this with everybody and say,
- 23:10this is where I was at. You know what this says to me, this is a St Paul moment.
- 23:13He was knocked off that horse, whatever he was doing,
- 23:16whatever he thought was gonna be, right? Whatever. He thought, wherever,
- 23:19whatever direction he thought his life was going in.
- 23:21All of a sudden Christ knocked him off that horse. And he said,
- 23:24I want you to get to know me. St. Paul never looked back. Shabo on a,
- 23:27on a great path here. This is what he said.
- 23:30He said that in the tribe of mess up, I'm gonna change a little bit.
- 23:34I'm a very public center and a very fallible person in the public sphere.
- 23:38What I think now my purpose is,
- 23:40is not to do the other examples that we've had of how to navigate something like
- 23:45this, which is go after the woman or try to win a court case or get back at,
- 23:50or get back into a movie or get back on it at all.
- 23:54He talked about a seeming support group that he's been in. Uh,
- 23:58he said a squad of 60 guys.
- 24:00Who've met every day on zoom at six and they go on bike rides on Thursdays and
- 24:04hang out at the beach on Sundays. So he's now finding a support group.
- 24:07Notice he's saying now, I don't think that I need to take revenge on anybody.
- 24:11That's not my job. That's not where my life's path is. Notice at St. Paul.
- 24:14They didn't say, well,
- 24:15now I gotta get back at people or anything along those lines. He said, no,
- 24:18I have a different path. My different path now is I need to follow Christ.
- 24:23In fact,
- 24:23I need to let go of everything so much that I don't even have a will of my own.
- 24:28My my will is Christ's will. That's all it is.
- 24:33So what does he go on to say? Um,
- 24:36he talked about going to rehab and now he's raising, he has a daughter, uh,
- 24:40with his wi and he's trying to raise her with his wife. Um, and he said,
- 24:45this has altered his outlook.
- 24:47He also said that he's part of a support system promoting interviews on
- 24:51Instagram. He said, please join me for a conversation with my friend shy.
- 24:53So this is a little bit different, uh, where this is what they discussed, guilt,
- 24:57Shane making amends friendship, and so much more. He said,
- 25:00I asked you to come with eyes open in an open heart, uh,
- 25:03because that's really shy the best story he is sharing, um, that,
- 25:07you know, at the end of the day,
- 25:09he's in a place where his heart is ready to be open.
- 25:12And he's asking you to be open about his story as well.
- 25:15He's opening up his heart. He's saying,
- 25:17why don't you guys open up your hearts too? This is important.
- 25:20I'm gonna share my story. Why? Because it's important.
- 25:23Cause I'm no longer blue form and I'm no longer down in the dump crisis taking
- 25:27me more after the break.
- 25:35All right, folks. Welcome back to Virgin. Mouth's powerful radio today.
- 25:37You are listening to the Dr.
- 25:38Louis Sandoval show and as always it as a pleasure to be here with you today,
- 25:43we're talking about really more than anything else. I mean,
- 25:45we're talking about the child bus story, where he shares his conversion, uh,
- 25:50his internal conversion, uh,
- 25:52to the Catholic faith as he is portraying Padre PIO and the upcoming film of
- 25:55Padre PIO more than anything else. I think it's really all of our stories.
- 25:59I think we gotta remember that. Any conversion story we like to hear about it,
- 26:03obviously,
- 26:03if it's somebody who's high profile and puts the Catholic faith in a good light
- 26:07and actually acknowledges that it is the truth. And at the end of the day,
- 26:10nothing else matters. We have to remember that this is our story. It's great.
- 26:14When it's a public figure,
- 26:15gets out to a lot of different people and it gets the conversation, uh,
- 26:19going and people understand what it means to be Catholic.
- 26:21Maybe we educate the public a little bit more and people are more interested in
- 26:25finding out, Hey, what are these Catholics all about?
- 26:28Because there is a lot of misinformation out there.
- 26:29A lot of people think that they know the Catholic faith or try to tell us what
- 26:33we do. And in reality, it's not what's going on. You know?
- 26:36So it's always nice to hear that from a high profile person who understands the
- 26:40faith deeply, but if nothing else for us, us, I gotta,
- 26:43this is really our conversion story, you know, for everybody,
- 26:47because if we go back, I mentioned St. Paul earlier in the show,
- 26:51we go back to St. Paul. The important part is, you know,
- 26:54we hear about the conversion and how they turn to Christ,
- 26:56whether it be HIL above St Paul or any of us. But in the article we read before,
- 27:01it was really heavily focused on child above admitting his sins. And St.
- 27:06Paul did no different. He admitted his sins. We know that St.
- 27:09Paul was persecuting the church. He was killing Christians.
- 27:12And this man who was 100% against Christ, Christ appears to him and says,
- 27:16why are you persecuting me? When you persecute Christians? You persecute me.
- 27:20When you persecute the church, you persecute me.
- 27:23The important part is to see that as deep,
- 27:26heavy CR and red, evil, mortal,
- 27:30whatever we want to call the sins, uh, that people are sharing as,
- 27:34as bad as they are. There's nothing that Christ can't work with.
- 27:38As long as we have a level of passion of passion for Christ passion,
- 27:42one way or another,
- 27:43if you out are out there and you feel like you're struggling,
- 27:45you feel like nothing's going well, you feel like you need to change your life.
- 27:49And you don't know how my advice is. Go in front of the tabernacle.
- 27:53Just go sit in front of the tabernacle for half an hour, an hour, 10 minutes,
- 27:56two minutes,
- 27:57just give a little bit of time to Christ and see what he can do with it.
- 28:00Because to say like, my life is so bad, Christ can't do anything with it.
- 28:04This is where I think we find the inspirations for these stories.
- 28:06There's people shy. LIBO said his life was at the rock bottom.
- 28:09He had nothing left. He took on this role of this movie, just hooping.
- 28:14He didn't care about Potter PI or anything along those lines.
- 28:17What he thought was this movie might just jumpstart my career.
- 28:20So I can just kind of get back into Hollywood.
- 28:21I thought he felt like he was outta the scene, but he saying, Nope,
- 28:25I'm just taking this. And I'm hoping that it'll, it'll do something maybe in a,
- 28:28in a flurry of passion for his heart. He wanted to get back into something.
- 28:32And God used that in the same way. We feel disheartened.
- 28:35If we feel like our lives are all over the place, like there's no passion,
- 28:39God is gonna use that. God is gonna take our hearts.
- 28:41He's gonna take a moment and say, come on this way, I'll take you by the hand.
- 28:44It's gonna be rough. It's gonna be a rough road,
- 28:46but we're gonna walk outta there.
- 28:47And you're gonna see that you actually already have everything you could have
- 28:51possibly wanted. You it's already there.
- 28:54You just don't see it in order for you to see it though.
- 28:56I gotta get rid of all the distractions. I gotta get rid of your social media.
- 28:59I gotta get rid of your phones. People are gonna talk,
- 29:01talk bad about you on social media. That way you can turn it off.
- 29:04That's the whole purpose of that. You know, there's,
- 29:06there's not about you being a bad person. It's about,
- 29:08I need you to turn that off. And if that's what it's gonna take,
- 29:10then heck that's what it's gonna take. It's gonna be turned off. You know,
- 29:13God works in different ways in our lives to say, oh, you hit rock bottom. Well,
- 29:17good. Now you see that I am here and I am all you need, but let's look at this.
- 29:21So the last article we read was about HIL bus confessions,
- 29:24and about him really admitting some heavy dark parts of his life.
- 29:27The next article is this article is from national Catholic register.
- 29:31It's a great article.
- 29:32And now it talks more about his interview with Bishop Baron and his interview
- 29:36with Bishop Baron. If anybody's heard,
- 29:38it is a very powerful interview because he talks about a lot of very
- 29:42fundamental Catholic things that are controversial to some people that some
- 29:47people, uh, might make fun of. And he talked about how in these Catholic, uh,
- 29:52practices and rituals, that's where he really found meaning in his life.
- 29:55Let's look at this article here. So he talked to Bishop Barron.
- 29:58He talked about his devotion to the traditional Latin mass.
- 30:02He talked about peace when he feels he praises the rosary and experience his
- 30:06experience. When he receives the Eucharist for the first time,
- 30:08this is what he said. When he experiences the Eucharist,
- 30:11when he received the Eucharist for the first time, he said,
- 30:14I start feeling a physical effect from it, right there. I'll stop right there.
- 30:19How many times do we remember that? Christ wants to heal us physically.
- 30:22We know it, but we don't believe it. You know, we know it appear,
- 30:25but we don't in here. We gotta feel that in our hearts,
- 30:28we read the gospels and we think that these are stories of old. You know,
- 30:31he healed the blind man. He healed the Leos and we think, yeah,
- 30:34that that's what happened back then.
- 30:35But where's our faith about that can happen. Now, boy,
- 30:38I have a diagnosis of cancer. I have a diagnosis of diabetes.
- 30:41I have a di and Jesus can cure that. I truly believe he can cure that. I gotta,
- 30:45but what I gotta do, I gotta let go of everything.
- 30:48I kind of gotta go spiritual rock bottom.
- 30:50I gotta not think or see things the way I think they are.
- 30:53And just let everything go and let myself see things as Christ sees them
- 30:58as Christ to let me see them that way.
- 31:00This is really what C buffet is saying here.
- 31:02He started to feel a physical effect and people are gonna think, well, what,
- 31:05he's gonna have a seizure? What, what do you mean physical effect?
- 31:07We gotta remember. Crisis is working on our bodies and side, the bus,
- 31:10talking about drinking too much about not doing good things with his body.
- 31:13The Eucharist is starting to heal that right? Starting to heal that he said,
- 31:17I start to feel a reprieve and it starts feeling like regenerative
- 31:22what's regenerative.
- 31:24It means that when something's broken or something's falls off, it grows back.
- 31:28It comes back. We say that the liver is our only organ that regenerates itself,
- 31:32part of it's gone. And part of it dead, it can grow back to a new,
- 31:35healthy tissue where regenerative in this case would be.
- 31:37Imagine of all of a sudden you've lost your hand or something in combat and a
- 31:41new one grows back. You just regenerate a hand,
- 31:43but he's talking about that spiritually with the Eucharist,
- 31:46it starts to feel regenerative is the word he used.
- 31:49He starts enjoying to such a degree. He doesn't ever want to miss it.
- 31:53This is important. How many times do we take the Eucharist for granted? Ah,
- 31:56you know, gosh, I think I might have I mortal sin.
- 31:59I'm not gonna go receive the Eucharist. I gotta go to confession. Okay. Well,
- 32:02confession time comes around. Ah, I couldn't make it to confession today.
- 32:05I just another week. Oh, well we forget what the Eucharist really is.
- 32:09The power of the Eucharist and why we need it. There there's nothing.
- 32:12There's nothing greater for us, but are we ready to receive it?
- 32:15Expecting to feel even a physical effect from it and maybe something
- 32:19regenerative? Are we at that point? I think that we, we should be.
- 32:23I think this is a great reminder of that. This is what he says. Um,
- 32:28let me see here really quickly.
- 32:33So there's a story about him.
- 32:34So he's 36 and he said he was agnostic before finding God, although he was,
- 32:39you know, partially Jewish too.
- 32:40I believe it was from his mom's said he made a bar mitzvah at when he was 13
- 32:44year old boy, but he never fully embraced his mother's.
- 32:46He was mother's mother's Jewish. Faith is what he told Bishop Barron.
- 32:50And despite his successes as an actor, his life was in turmoil. Okay.
- 32:55So life was in Turmo kind like my cat behind me there, um,
- 32:59in trouble with the law multiple times currently he faces, uh,
- 33:04lawsuits filed by his ex-girlfriend accusing him of being abusive.
- 33:08He was estranged from his mother because of this downward spiral.
- 33:11But what does he tell the Bishop? He says,
- 33:14he reached out to the point where he was despaired of living and saying,
- 33:18I don't want to be here anymore. So let's look at his life.
- 33:20He's at a point where he's got a lot of legal issues.
- 33:22He had some success in Hollywood. Sure. I've seen some of his movies are great.
- 33:26And in spite of these successes, his life is in turmoil.
- 33:28He's in trouble with the law multiple times. He's got lawsuits going on.
- 33:32He's estranged from his mom. His life is in a downward spiral.
- 33:36Also he reached his point of despair of living and said,
- 33:38I don't want to be here anymore. In fact, if you see the article,
- 33:41he says that he had a gun in his hand and he was ready to just end it all.
- 33:45He was ready to commit, commit suicide right there. He had no,
- 33:47no reason for living in his heart. He had no passion.
- 33:51So he believes that God used his eagerness and this is where it hot or cold.
- 33:56He wasn't Luke warm to resurrect his lagging movie career and put him on a path
- 34:00to healing and personal peace, right? There is the most powerful part.
- 34:04That last part personal piece, when this healing takes place,
- 34:07how many people are truly in peace right now?
- 34:10This is where it's important to remember why what's the purpose of our,
- 34:13of our Catholic faith. Why get excited about our Catholic faith? Who cares?
- 34:16So it's the body of Christ who cares? What's that gonna do? We gotta remember,
- 34:20this is our path to peace. This is how we find peace in our lives.
- 34:24How many times do people come to counseling to ask me advice? And they tell me,
- 34:28gosh, my life is in turmoil. Uh, I've got a lot of anxiety.
- 34:31I've got a lot of depression. I need couples counseling because my, my husband,
- 34:34he's doing drugs. And then I got into drugs too, or we're not getting along.
- 34:38That doesn't even have to be drugs involved. We're just not getting along.
- 34:40We don't, I don't even know if we love each other anymore.
- 34:42And we're talking about divorce. You know, we have kids involved,
- 34:45but we don't even care about that. We're screaming in front of the kids.
- 34:47There's all this Turmo in our lives. And I said, do you want peace?
- 34:51And a lot of times people think that they have to do all these things.
- 34:53They have to go off on this far journey. They have to go and,
- 34:56and travel somewhere, uh, of a miraculous nature.
- 34:59Maybe where there was a Marion apparition. That's all beautiful.
- 35:01Don't get me wrong. I'd love to travel to anywhere. There's a Marion apparition,
- 35:05a Catholic shrine, anything, uh, you know, going to, um, CCHO.
- 35:09Zoc going to different places where, uh, our lady, uh, has appeared or where,
- 35:14uh, um, you know, there's a wonderful statue. That's venerated of our Lord.
- 35:18Anything along those lines is very powerful. The journey is very powerful,
- 35:21but the journey brings us right back home.
- 35:23And if we can't do a big journey like that,
- 35:25how are we gonna find personal peace? Well,
- 35:26sometimes I counsel people and I tell them, have you received the Eucharist?
- 35:29Have you gone to confession and just received the Eucharist?
- 35:32And that's not enough for them. They think that's too simple.
- 35:35What are you talking? I need to do something huge.
- 35:37I need to go up to the top of the mountain and talk to some guy who's meditate
- 35:41me meditating up there, and he's gonna have the answer for me. I said, no,
- 35:44the answer is just in the Eucharist. The answer's just Jesus. The question is,
- 35:47do we have the eyes of faith to do that? HIL Lebo says, he,
- 35:51this is true faith right here.
- 35:52He believes God uses eagerness to resurrect his lagging moving career and put
- 35:56him on a path of healing and personal peace.
- 35:58Notice all the good things are happening.
- 36:00He wanted to resurrect his movie career and it happened,
- 36:02but it also happened in a pathway to piece.
- 36:05How many times did we try to resurrect our careers or try to be important on a
- 36:09destructive path that can happen as well?
- 36:11He said the turning point was an offer to play the lead. Uh,
- 36:15and this new film Bario, which premieres in Venice next week though,
- 36:19he knew little of anything about the famous Italian Saint or Catholicism in
- 36:22general. He leap at the chance because he just wanted this movie career.
- 36:25He had an eagerness. Where's our eagerness. You know, when I think about that,
- 36:30I think about the Eucharist.
- 36:31I think Jesus doesn't want us to receive the Eucharist.
- 36:34He wants us to want to receive the Eucharist. Does that make a difference?
- 36:38Of course, he wants us to receive the Eucharist.
- 36:40He wants us to go receive the Eucharist, but not just go receive the Eucharist.
- 36:43He wants us to want to receive the Eucharist.
- 36:45He wants us to have a desire for the Eucharist.
- 36:47He wants us to have eagerness to receive the Eucharist where I gotta say, Nope,
- 36:51I gotta go receive the Eucharist. Is there a chance to receive the Eucharist?
- 36:54I'm gonna put everything else aside. That's my priority.
- 36:56I think that that's where we allow God to work in our lives.
- 37:00I want nothing else. And in fact, I,
- 37:01maybe everything else was taken away from me or I've chosen to let everything
- 37:05go. Cuz if we notice in the gospels, what does Jesus say to the rich man?
- 37:08He says, sell everything you have and then come follow me.
- 37:11And you're gonna find true riches and peace. And was that enough for him?
- 37:15That's how you're gonna find eternal life. Wasn't enough for him.
- 37:17He went away sad. In this case, shy LIBO says I had to hit rock bottom.
- 37:21So it says, as it turned out, it wasn't his career that God wanted to save.
- 37:25Lebo believes the Franciscan Frys. He meant.
- 37:28So he wanted to go spend time with the Franciscan fryers to prepare for this
- 37:31movie. Um, he spent time with, to prepare for the role,
- 37:34made him increasingly curious about the faith that inspired Padre P.
- 37:39They directed him to the gospel of Matthew and the works of other important
- 37:42Catholic writers, which he deed notice it. Doesn't say he just skimmed through.
- 37:47He devoured. He ate him. It became a part of him. He digested all that.
- 37:50That's the eagerness that we need to have when we're gonna receive the,
- 37:54or on this. When we come back from the break.
- 38:03All right, welcome back to Virgin. Most powerful radio.
- 38:05You are listening to the Dr. Louis Sandoval show.
- 38:07And today we are really talking about our journey as Catholics
- 38:12through the eyes of the actor, Shila buff, if you will,
- 38:15because it's a good reminder to us,
- 38:17how awesome our faith is and how healing it can be. Body, mind, spirit,
- 38:22body, mind, soul. Um, in general,
- 38:24we can't forget that we can't deny that we gotta look at our hearts.
- 38:28We gotta look at our souls and we gotta realize God is working on us.
- 38:31God is working on our bodies. God is working on our minds.
- 38:33God is definitely working on our souls. Jesus is there,
- 38:37but we don't always feel it. And sometimes it can be a little bit distressing.
- 38:40Um, and hearing a story like this from this actor. Uh, boy,
- 38:44it really reminds me that whenever I'm feeling like I'm down low rock bottom,
- 38:47nothing else is good. God is there. Jesus is there. Well,
- 38:51let's go on to look at the rest of this interview.
- 38:53I'm going through reading excerpts from his interview with, uh, Bishop Barron,
- 38:56great interview. You can find it online. If anybody, uh, wants to see it,
- 39:00I'll try to put a link in here. Uh, if anybody wants to, uh, see that video,
- 39:04it is about 80 minutes, 90 minutes long,
- 39:06but it was very powerful and it was very, uh, instructive.
- 39:09And it really more than anything else, he was teaching me about my faith.
- 39:13He was teaching me about the faith because he was helping me to remember a few
- 39:16things like this. I thought this was huge. Let's read this next paragraph here.
- 39:20Um, in the interview,
- 39:21LIBO spoke about his view of Jesus before reading the gospels.
- 39:25Remember he hadn't read the gospels before he went to go spend some time with
- 39:28some Capin monks, some Franciscan monks. And so he could understand the life.
- 39:32So he could play this role of Padre PIO. And they had him the gospel of Matthew.
- 39:36And he said that his view of Jesus before reading the gospels,
- 39:40it was someone who is soft, fragile, all loving, all listening,
- 39:44but with no ferocity, no romance,
- 39:47but what he encountered in the gospels is a very different masculine Christ.
- 39:51And this is true of all of us. A lot of times we forget it.
- 39:53We're not going back to read our gospels. We don't, we don't think, you know,
- 39:57sometimes we think of Jesus as just kind of the soft person. Who's just there.
- 40:01Who's gonna pat you on your back. And, and a lot of times the talk is, oh,
- 40:04he's very merciful. But almost like this weakness where no matter what you do,
- 40:08he's just gonna be weak. I think a lot of times people might think too well,
- 40:11you know, the way he died on the cross, it was a sign of weakness.
- 40:14He never fought back or anything like that. His battle wasn't a physical battle.
- 40:18I think what we don't see here is the, the verocity the, the fire,
- 40:22the passion that Christ has as he's fighting that spiritual battle with us when
- 40:26we're right there fighting Christ is right there next to us with a sword in
- 40:29hand, slashing everything around us.
- 40:31He's got this very masculine power where he's there to defend us and to fight
- 40:35along with us. But we gotta make that effort. We gotta make that fight.
- 40:39And this story I above had to go to this comment. He had to accept this role.
- 40:43He had to make an effort and Christ is all of a sudden gonna fight along with
- 40:46him. He said, okay, you take up your sword. I'm gonna take up mine.
- 40:49Let's do this, but we gotta have that level of faith.
- 40:53Now this is what he also said. This was very powerful too. Made me think.
- 40:56He said that the fryers introduced him to the mass.
- 40:59And he told Bishop Barron that he became especially attracted to the traditional
- 41:03Latin mass.
- 41:04A lot of people don't like to hear that a lot of people like to see the Latin
- 41:06mass go away. Eh, it can't go away. I mean, it's part of our tradition.
- 41:10And if we're, if we're big on nothing else in the Catholic faith it's tradition.
- 41:14Um, but he said, unlike the no Novi, ordo, masses, he attended,
- 41:18he said the old liturgy struck him as being focused on God,
- 41:23more than the congregation.
- 41:24He said that he felt as if someone was sharing a profound secret with him,
- 41:28not selling me a car, referring to the guitar plane.
- 41:31He had experience at another Catholic parish. She attended,
- 41:34this is a discussion that I have a lot of times different with people. Um,
- 41:38you know, people who say, oh, do you prefer the Latin mass?
- 41:40Do you prefer the Nova Soto? Do you prefer, what do you prefer? And I say,
- 41:44I prefer any mass where one there's a valid consecration,
- 41:50okay. Either way. And concentration's valid,
- 41:52but I want that mass to help me focus on that consecration to help me focus
- 41:57on the doors of heaven, opening up and coming down and through the priest words,
- 42:02speaking,
- 42:02commanding the bread and the wine to turn into the body and blood of Christ.
- 42:07I want to be in that moment. I don't wanna be distracted from that moment.
- 42:10I've been to many auto masses where the very quiet, very reverent,
- 42:15the priest you can tell is very much in the moment.
- 42:18And he's praying in the words and he's looking at the Eucharist.
- 42:21He raises the host and it's very quiet in there.
- 42:24There's not a whole lot of music. Quiet, traditional mu beautiful, beautiful.
- 42:28I've been to Latin masses where the same thing happens where the whole focus is
- 42:32quiet. The priest is praying,
- 42:33but sometimes I've been to Latin masses where the priests,
- 42:37I don't know if it's his passion or there's a disconnect between the priests and
- 42:40the people. And what I mean by that is a lot of people are gonna say, well,
- 42:42yeah, the priest has turned around. This is why he is gotta face the people.
- 42:45Now it has nothing to do with that. What I wonder is, is the priest tired?
- 42:48Is he in a different mindset?
- 42:50I say this not to criticize the priest in those moments,
- 42:53but I can tell when I'm being an effective, uh,
- 42:55counselor and effective doctor or not,
- 42:57I can tell if I'm being effective with my patients or not. Am I in the moment?
- 43:00Am I present? Or am I worried by different things? You know,
- 43:03this is where it's important to. I think certain things that'll help with that,
- 43:07or don't go bother father before the mass, let him, let him prepare.
- 43:10Let him focus on what he's gonna do,
- 43:11cuz don't want so many distractions that moment.
- 43:14He doesn't want anybody to think about what's really happening there.
- 43:17He doesn't want anybody to be in awe or, you know,
- 43:20really trying to absorb the mystery of the Eucharist. That's really challenging.
- 43:23But for somebody who's brand new to the faith, boy,
- 43:26they can see things that we can't see because he's saying, okay,
- 43:28I'm learning from this caption monks. I'm learning what the faith is.
- 43:31I'm learning what the Eucharist is. I'm learning what it meant to pad appeal.
- 43:34I'm gonna be distracted. There's guitar playing all this stuff. That's not,
- 43:37that's not my role here. My role is to really focus on the Eucharist.
- 43:41If there's all of a sudden,
- 43:42all this different music or people worried about how they're singing or you
- 43:45know, how they're reading the readings and that com that comes across,
- 43:48it conveys to us, you know, uh, where's the passion in the mass,
- 43:51where of reverence is it about me and how well I appear in front of the people.
- 43:55If I'm a elector, is it about how well did I read that? No,
- 43:59it's about are the people's hearts facing Christ,
- 44:03are our hearts ready to accept Christ? And the Eucharist.
- 44:05That's really what it comes down to.
- 44:06And I think that that's what Shyla both was experiencing here.
- 44:09When we talked about, you know, the guitar playing things like that,
- 44:12I'm sure if he went to a Novis auto mass, which was very respectful, very quiet,
- 44:16he would probably feel, uh, similar to the Latin mass. Uh,
- 44:19but he expressed that he said at the Latin mass offered at the Institute of
- 44:22Christ king in Oakland, California. Uh,
- 44:24he had a strong sense that he had found something. You know, I love that,
- 44:28that he had found something. Why do I love that? Because it,
- 44:31it takes me back to the most basic thing of our Catholic faith.
- 44:35And that is that the kingdom of heaven has something to be found.
- 44:38I always remember that parable.
- 44:41This is what I love about parables Christ reminds us that he is for everybody,
- 44:44not just the learn, but there's that parable where Christ says, you know,
- 44:48a man finds a, a Pearl hidden in a field,
- 44:51a jewel hidden in a field and he sells everything. He has to buy that field.
- 44:55Well, what does that tell me? There's a field that looks like barrenness.
- 44:58It looks like there's nothing there.
- 44:59You gotta go look for something and nobody else is really looking for it.
- 45:03You gotta be able to look for something where,
- 45:05to where it seems like there's nothing there where it seems Barron.
- 45:08It doesn't exist. This is why we've gone to the desert. Now, granted,
- 45:11a lot of people will tell you the desert is a place where the demons hung out
- 45:14and you're gonna go challenge the demons. But there looks Barron.
- 45:17It tells me that there's some kind of treasure in the desert.
- 45:19It's something to be found in the desert,
- 45:21something to be found on that field that nobody else can see.
- 45:24I can go out there. I'm gonna find something shy above tells us, Hey,
- 45:26I found something like that at the church.
- 45:28I just found something in the middle of mass.
- 45:30I found something that was pretty powerful.
- 45:33So one of the questions that came up is,
- 45:37is he a Catholic? And what does it mean to officially become Catholic? Well,
- 45:42it turned out that he was baptized. He discovered he was baptizing.
- 45:44He was able to receive communion.
- 45:46So he went and received communion and he told Bishop Barron that he felt a
- 45:50reprieve and receiving the Eucharist and decided afterwards that he never wanted
- 45:54to miss mass. Again,
- 45:56he attends mass as much as he can on weekdays and consistently on Sundays,
- 46:01he was in contact with his friend who we made there. It was a brother,
- 46:03brother Alexander, and he says,
- 46:05he's always wanting to learn about the Catholic faith. He's hungry for it.
- 46:08He just tasted something that is so delicious to the soul that the soul wants
- 46:13and is hungry for. And for us, I, I speak for myself.
- 46:17It's so easy to take for granted. Am I hungry for it every day? I mean,
- 46:20I love doing this show here. I love speaking about our Catholic faith.
- 46:22I love hanging out with my Catholic brethren. I love, you know,
- 46:25everything surrounding ourselves with our Catholic faith.
- 46:28Does that mean I'm perfect far from it?
- 46:30I like surrounding with myself with it because I'm hoping to reach there.
- 46:33I'm still walking up that mountain, but his passion for the mass.
- 46:37I'm a little jealous of that. I wanna get that passion back.
- 46:39It doesn't always happen. I love going to mass, but we get distracted easily,
- 46:42right? Get distracted by things of the world for him. This is believe it or not.
- 46:47Even though he's got all these different things going on legal issues,
- 46:50issues with relationships, issues where he's recognizing his sins,
- 46:54the mass is what's very real in that moment. All this other stuff can go away.
- 46:58All this chaos can go away. I just need to focus on the mass.
- 47:00And that's what I want in that moment. That's what my heart is desiring.
- 47:03So that's very important. You know, very, very important.
- 47:07Now a question came up in this article is saying, well,
- 47:09if somebody like HIL Lauff, if he, uh, if he is Catholic, not Catholic,
- 47:13what does it take to officially become Catholic?
- 47:15And they went to a Kenon lawyer, father Philip, Michael Tanura.
- 47:19And he is a Ken lawyer and a priest for the diocese of Patterson, New Jersey.
- 47:23And he said that the R C I a program is a usual means for an unbaptized person
- 47:27to convert to Catholicism.
- 47:28But it's a different matter for those of us who have already been Val validly
- 47:32baptized a person who's already baptized is not a convert to the faith,
- 47:36but a person who is being brought into full communion with the church and needs
- 47:40only that catechesis necessary to profess the faith and prepare them to receive
- 47:44the remaining sacraments of initiation confirmation and the E.
- 47:48So in other words, somebody like sh above doesn't need to be baptized again.
- 47:51He was already baptized. Now. He just needs the catechesis.
- 47:54He needs somebody to prepare him for confirmation and the Eucharist.
- 47:57And that's what he was doing with the monks, with the Fris.
- 48:00They were teaching him, they're preparing him, he received communion.
- 48:02So if he's already a baptized person, he would also make use of the sacrament,
- 48:06penance and preparation for the confirmation and the first Eucharist.
- 48:10So to be in full communion with a Catholic church,
- 48:13one needs to be in communion with the faith, the sacraments,
- 48:16and the Eccles governance of the church, specifically the Pope.
- 48:20So that's really what it means. I mean, to be in full communion with the church,
- 48:22obviously we need to do our sacraments of initiation, communion, confirmation,
- 48:27and baptism baptism obviously is first. Uh,
- 48:31and we need to be in communion with the faith. We need to studied our faith.
- 48:34So we need to agree to it. And we need to accept that the Pope,
- 48:38the magisterium of the church is the governing body of the church.
- 48:42We have to convert that in our hearts all the time.
- 48:44I know a lot of people like to say, oh, there's no pop.
- 48:46Now there's a set of a con there's this there's that? No, the Pope is a Pope.
- 48:49You know, Jesus wouldn't leave us without a Pope. And then the,
- 48:52and this is what's so, um, powerful about everything.
- 48:56A Pope says everything he does,
- 48:57we have to believe that they gotta take that into consideration.
- 49:01Because at that point they're no longer representing themselves.
- 49:03They're always gonna be representing Christ,
- 49:05which is why it's so hurtful to the body of Christ.
- 49:07If there is a Pope who says things that go against the teachings to the
- 49:11magisterium or leaves a lot of doubt, um,
- 49:13because the Pope is supposed to be that final word where Christ never left out.
- 49:17He said, let your yes. Be yes. And your no, be no.
- 49:19Everything else is of the double. You know,
- 49:21I'm suffer from that all times where sometimes there's a lot of maybes in my
- 49:24life, but you gotta be a little bit more. Yes and no. From the Pope,
- 49:27we need to realize that that's what we're looking for. We're looking for that.
- 49:30Yes or no, because that's his role. Now, all this in mind,
- 49:35one of the questions was can LaBuff valley receive communion?
- 49:39And this is where this priest, who's a can lawyer say,
- 49:41he's not familiar with his background if he's already baptized,
- 49:44but not confirmed and has not received his first Eucharist.
- 49:47Then he went to go through the catechetical instruction to prepare himself for
- 49:50these sacraments.
- 49:51If he's already a Catholic and had fallen away for a period of time.
- 49:54And this is where I think this is what's important.
- 49:56This is what I was gonna say. You know, for us as Catholics,
- 49:58we should always be asking ourselves, can we validly receive communion?
- 50:02Meaning are we in that state of grace?
- 50:04That's what this conversion story really speaks to me about.
- 50:07Am I keeping that state of grace? Am I still excited about being Catholic?
- 50:11Am I excited that crisis is working in my life? And I need nothing else. Well,
- 50:15that's important.
- 50:15But if we're falling away for a period of time and now returning good confession
- 50:19is what we need. Good confession.
- 50:21And really all that I'm proclaiming is exactly what HIL Lebo is doing here.
- 50:24He really did just a very, very public confession saying, look,
- 50:27these are my sins. I'm not perfect.
- 50:29And I'm realizing that it's and through Christ that I find perfection,
- 50:32it's not about me. It's about Christ.
- 50:34And I need to learn more about the Catholic faith.
- 50:36I need to learn more about its beauty and I need to be in good standing in order
- 50:40to have a peaceful life. That's really what it comes down to.
- 50:42That's what the conversion is. If everybody does that,
- 50:45you'll never have to worry about deliverance.
- 50:46You'll never have to worry about the demonic influence in your life. Why?
- 50:49Because we're never gonna turn to crystals or oui boards or witchcraft or
- 50:53anything along those lines. We're gonna say, you know what?
- 50:56At the end of the day, I need to convert every day. I need to convert.
- 50:59Every minute of every day, the people ask me,
- 51:01am I a convert to the Catholic faith? Sure. I was baptized cradle Catholic,
- 51:04but every day I'm still converting to the capital basis. This is Dr.
- 51:08Stanwell saying until next week, let's keep a cap.
