Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Per Media podcast. Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer
- 0:16Speaker 1: new Arth, and today we're joined by Brody Henderson, Seth Morris, Randall,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Williams Chester, Floyd, Marge Smith, Corry Culkins, Logan Dove, and
- 0:25Speaker 1: Colin Fopma. This is a ten round quiz show with
- 0:28Speaker 1: questions for meat eaters four verticals which are hunting, fishing,
- 0:31Speaker 1: conservation and cooking, and there is a prize. Meat Eater
- 0:34Speaker 1: will donate five hundred dollars to the conservation organization of
- 0:39Speaker 1: the winners, choosing for the stat of the week. This week,
- 0:41Speaker 1: we're looking at listener performance by tracking over three hundred
- 0:45Speaker 1: responses to polls on the mediater reddit page. Here's what
- 0:49Speaker 1: I've learned about the audience's trivia prowess. Brody, do you
- 0:53Speaker 1: have any predictions for what our audience averages for points
- 0:57Speaker 1: per game in trivia?
- 1:01Speaker 2: Six six?
- 1:02Speaker 1: With any other guesses in the room. Now, these are
- 1:04Speaker 1: folks who responded.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Is there self reported?
- 1:06Speaker 1: Self reported?
- 1:07Speaker 3: That's right, they probably would have counted Swan, I like
- 1:12Speaker 3: six six.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Okay, here's our listeners average five point three nine points
- 1:18Speaker 1: per game. Those are good guesses, which is nearly identical
- 1:21Speaker 1: to Ryan Callahan. About seven percent of the audience reported
- 1:25Speaker 1: that they've scored nine or ten points in one of
- 1:28Speaker 1: the last five games. Seven percent is also how many
- 1:31Speaker 1: listeners reported that they've scored one or two points in
- 1:34Speaker 1: the last five games. The largest grouping were listeners who
- 1:37Speaker 1: said they scored five or six points in a game,
- 1:40Speaker 1: which was thirty seven percent of the audience. So we
- 1:45Speaker 1: pretty smart audience.
- 1:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean you come here and get six, right,
- 1:48Speaker 4: that's right in it.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Here's the dumb ones aren't going to report?
- 1:52Speaker 1: I think yeah, or or you know they maybe instead
- 1:55Speaker 1: of two they got a four, like like ran rounded up? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:58Speaker 1: get a half point here?
- 1:59Speaker 3: Half more elastic?
- 2:01Speaker 4: H if you're counting those swan answers.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Now here's our zero percenter question of the week, which
- 2:07Speaker 1: tests how much knowledge players have retained from previous games.
- 2:11Speaker 1: This question was from episode three eighty eight. The topic
- 2:15Speaker 1: was conservation, and nobody got it right. This invasive plant,
- 2:20Speaker 1: which is a climbing perennial, has been nicknamed the vine
- 2:23Speaker 1: that ate the South. What do you guess anybody know this? Man?
- 2:27Speaker 2: I was in this one and don't even remember hmmm.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Still a tough question. We don't even have anything it right.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Nobody got it right. Yanni said it. He knew it
- 2:37Speaker 1: after he heard kudzu.
- 2:39Speaker 2: That's right.
- 2:41Speaker 1: The correct answer is kudzu. The incorrect answers given were napweed,
- 2:45Speaker 1: ivy red vine, buck thorn, loop, looping loop in wild grape,
- 2:51Speaker 1: and creeping myrtle. Kudzu. Won't forget that again. We have
- 2:56Speaker 1: some house community to get to. In a previous game
- 2:58Speaker 1: of trivia, we had a question about what white bird
- 3:01Speaker 1: is featured on the federal duck stamp that expires in
- 3:04Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. The correct answer was tundras swan. This
- 3:09Speaker 1: cost some drama because Randall answered swan.
- 3:12Speaker 5: Drama Randall, which.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I didn't give him credit for. Now, I felt bad.
- 3:16Speaker 3: I don't remember this at all.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I felt bad about how this unfolded, Randal. So I'm
- 3:20Speaker 1: going to give you a chance to redeem yourself. Here's
- 3:22Speaker 1: what we're going to do. Phil is going to show
- 3:25Speaker 1: you four pictures of swans, and everything you need to
- 3:29Speaker 1: identify them is in each picture. If you can pick
- 3:32Speaker 1: out which one is the tundra swan, then I'll give
- 3:35Speaker 1: you a point, and you and Brody will be going
- 3:37Speaker 1: to a tiebreaker to settle that game. But if you
- 3:40Speaker 1: get it wrong then nothing changes.
- 3:43Speaker 3: This is very uncomfortable, and Brody remains the winner.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Randall, do you agree to these terms? You feel okay
- 3:48Speaker 1: about this?
- 3:48Speaker 5: Sure?
- 3:49Speaker 3: I'm identifying the swans on the screen using.
- 3:52Speaker 1: You need to find the Tundra swan.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Find the I'm lodging my protest.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I'm not even gonna check in with Brody. He can
- 3:58Speaker 1: sit over here and grumpy if he wants to. But
- 4:01Speaker 1: this is how we're going to decide it. God, I
- 4:03Speaker 1: will pull up the photo. You need to tell me?
- 4:06Speaker 1: Is it a B, C or D? Who is the
- 4:10Speaker 1: Tundras swan? What are you seeing? Randall?
- 4:15Speaker 3: Well, swan's a swan? I think I'm I think I
- 4:18Speaker 3: made that clear last time I go torn between B
- 4:25Speaker 3: and D.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Does anybody think they know? Looking at these four pictures, I.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Think you're just trying to fool me.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I think it's all the above, Oh God, or none
- 4:37Speaker 2: of the above.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Maybe who's the Tundras swan?
- 4:40Speaker 3: Spencer usually doesn't trick you, So that's what I'm gonna go.
- 4:49Speaker 1: If you want to see what Randall is seeing? Phil
- 4:51Speaker 1: has this up? You can see it on our YouTube channel. Randal,
- 4:54Speaker 1: what is your answer, A, B, C or D.
- 4:58Speaker 3: I'm gonna go with A. A.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Mhm is incorrect? Shit, do you have another guess?
- 5:07Speaker 3: Well?
- 5:07Speaker 1: What are you even going?
- 5:08Speaker 3: My actual answer was going to be D, and then
- 5:10Speaker 3: I talked myself out of it at the last minute
- 5:12Speaker 3: because I thought that I was just How about D?
- 5:15Speaker 1: D is also incorrect?
- 5:18Speaker 3: How about B?
- 5:20Speaker 1: Here's the deal, Randall, they are all trumpeter swans. None
- 5:24Speaker 1: of them are a toun dress.
- 5:25Speaker 5: This is all set up.
- 5:26Speaker 3: You've humiliated me too.
- 5:30Speaker 1: And that is why, Randal, we are not going to
- 5:32Speaker 1: give you a point for just writing.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Down swan brutal.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Wow, every one of those swans is a trumpeter swan.
- 5:41Speaker 5: I was miliating right there with you.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I didn't even think we played those kinds of games
- 5:45Speaker 3: around here.
- 5:46Speaker 5: I had nothing to do with that.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Now, why couldn't we have done this after the round
- 5:51Speaker 3: of trivia? Now I'm all in my head.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I'll help you out, though, Randall, Trumpeters and tundras look
- 5:58Speaker 1: almost identical. Some way is to tell them apart, or
- 6:01Speaker 1: that trumpeters get bigger than tundras. Tundras often have yellow
- 6:06Speaker 1: markings below the eye trumpeters often have lipstick markings on
- 6:10Speaker 1: their bills, and the tundrius call is much more high
- 6:14Speaker 1: pitched than the deep voice of a trumpeter.
- 6:17Speaker 3: So you're telling me it's very hard to distinguish trumpeter
- 6:19Speaker 3: and tundras swans.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I'm telling you, if you knew the difference, you would
- 6:23Speaker 1: have known that none of those are a tundra swans.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Fair enough, fair enough.
- 6:31Speaker 1: For today's round is a five, So I'm officially putting
- 6:34Speaker 1: us on perfect score alert. With that, we're onto the
- 6:37Speaker 1: game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look, I need
- 6:44Speaker 1: to know what I stand and wind everything. How's that
- 6:48Speaker 1: just tend to win everything? Demon suckers. Now you trumped
- 7:00Speaker 1: me Randall and said none of those are a hundred
- 7:02Speaker 1: so one. I would have been in a real pickle.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I wouldn't have had an answer for that. I wouldn't
- 7:06Speaker 1: have Well, okay, well, I guess that you and Brody
- 7:08Speaker 1: are going to a tiebreaker.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Well you laid a perfect traffic worked well.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Question one. The topic is conservation. This will be multiple
- 7:16Speaker 1: choice and this is our listener Question of the Week,
- 7:19Speaker 1: which was won by Alex Sutherland for sending this great question.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Alex is going to get a book signed by Steve.
- 7:27Speaker 1: What is the only land mammal that's native to Hawaii?
- 7:31Speaker 1: Is it a deer, a bat, a squirrel, or a monkey?
- 7:37Speaker 2: Sorry?
- 7:37Speaker 6: I forgot to put the multiple choices up there.
- 7:39Speaker 1: What is the only land mammal that's native to Hawaii?
- 7:42Speaker 1: Your four choices are deer, bat, squirrel, or monkey? A confidence, Seth. Seth,
- 7:52Speaker 1: you've probably been in Hawaii the most recent out of
- 7:55Speaker 1: anybody in this room. Do you think you know it?
- 7:57Speaker 1: You just have a guess.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Oh, I just guess, But I don't know if I
- 8:00Speaker 2: guess makes sense?
- 8:01Speaker 1: Again? The only land mammal native to Hawaii? Dear bat, squirrel, monkey?
- 8:06Speaker 2: I don't think there was. I honestly thought there was
- 8:08Speaker 2: like nothing native to that island or those islands.
- 8:13Speaker 1: It's everybody ready, marge? Are you ready? Go ahead and
- 8:18Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Seth saying bat, March saying bat,
- 8:22Speaker 1: and she drew a great bat. Chester and Randall and
- 8:26Speaker 1: Cory and Colin all saying bat, Logan saying squirrel. Brody's
- 8:32Speaker 1: saying bat. The correct answer is bat. The room did
- 8:37Speaker 1: very well. Wait land considered a land mammal, There's not
- 8:43Speaker 1: a trick. Every land mammal in Hawaii has been introduced
- 8:46Speaker 1: by humans, except for the Hawaiian hordy bat. It's believed
- 8:50Speaker 1: that the bat arrived in Hawaii about ten thousand years ago,
- 8:54Speaker 1: migrating there from the mainland. In North America, the species
- 8:57Speaker 1: is considered endangered, with the greatest threat it's being habitat
- 9:01Speaker 1: loss and decreased insect populations due to their use of pesticides.
- 9:06Speaker 6: I'm sorry to embarrass everyone, but can you raise your
- 9:08Speaker 6: hand if you did not say that more efficient?
- 9:12Speaker 1: Logan did not say that?
- 9:13Speaker 2: Okay, off, but I wrote and then I was like,
- 9:17Speaker 2: it's not a land mammal.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Question two, the topic is fishing. What river has the
- 9:24Speaker 1: most white sturgeon in North America?
- 9:30Speaker 2: Hmmm?
- 9:31Speaker 1: What river has the most white sturgeon in North America?
- 9:41Speaker 1: A torn room, no quick answers. But now a few
- 9:44Speaker 1: folks I think they may have found it in their
- 9:47Speaker 1: brain somewhere Chester. Do you have this one right?
- 9:50Speaker 5: I believe?
- 9:51Speaker 3: So?
- 9:51Speaker 1: Okay, Seth, you think you have this one right?
- 9:53Speaker 2: Hm?
- 9:54Speaker 1: No, okaybe but what river has the most white sturgeon
- 9:59Speaker 1: in North America?
- 10:01Speaker 5: Oh?
- 10:04Speaker 1: North America, whole continent?
- 10:08Speaker 2: Did you put a South America river down Okay.
- 10:13Speaker 1: What river has the most white sturgeon in North America? Randall,
- 10:18Speaker 1: do you have this one right?
- 10:20Speaker 3: I don't have this one period?
- 10:22Speaker 1: Oh okay, I'm still thinking.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Don't think I'm gonna get it right.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I've got two in my head.
- 10:28Speaker 5: In one of them.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Right back to the bats that migrated to Hawaii. They
- 10:33Speaker 1: said they made two different migrations ten thousand years ago,
- 10:36Speaker 1: and then about nine hundred years ago they showed up again,
- 10:39Speaker 1: all on their own.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Why don't you give a this little extra info on
- 10:42Speaker 4: white sturgeon?
- 10:43Speaker 2: Not gonna help you there, Chat while you put the
- 10:46Speaker 2: second answer you have down and then cross it out.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Sure, little treat for the YouTube body, Ince Chester, you
- 10:52Speaker 1: can see what else you were thinking. Is everybody ready?
- 10:56Speaker 3: No?
- 10:58Speaker 1: What river has the most white sturgeon in North America?
- 11:05Speaker 2: This is a fiction, not a bird. I don't want
- 11:07Speaker 2: the white to throw you off.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Appreciate that. I appreciate that.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Corey, do you have this one right?
- 11:13Speaker 3: I know I have.
- 11:14Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't think so it's.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Maybe a zero percenter. The confidence of the room is
- 11:20Speaker 1: giving me. Broady writing something down, Randal, do you have
- 11:26Speaker 1: an answer?
- 11:28Speaker 3: Don't like it? Don't like it? Spencer, don't think I'm
- 11:31Speaker 3: in the right country, But.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Is everybody ready?
- 11:36Speaker 7: Man?
- 11:38Speaker 5: How big are white sturgeon?
- 11:39Speaker 1: Not gonna help you out at all?
- 11:43Speaker 2: Are those? The big ones? Are the little ones.
- 11:46Speaker 1: You can But we're running out of time. Rand's also changing.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Do you have an official time?
- 11:52Speaker 1: We don't have We don't have an official time. Sometimes
- 11:55Speaker 1: I'll re listen to an episode and be like, we
- 11:57Speaker 1: had too much time there.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Yeah, this is gonna be one of those.
- 12:00Speaker 1: This might be one of those questions.
- 12:02Speaker 5: Is everybody ready?
- 12:03Speaker 1: Ahead, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have set
- 12:06Speaker 1: saying Colombia. March saying Mississippi. Yes, you're saying Colombia. What
- 12:12Speaker 1: did you cross out there? Chestare Randalls saying Columbia, Corey
- 12:15Speaker 1: saying Columbia, Colin saying Missouri, Logan saying Mississippi, Brody saying Mississippi.
- 12:21Speaker 1: We have a correct answer in the room. It's the
- 12:24Speaker 1: Columbia River, damit.
- 12:26Speaker 5: I have raised Columbia.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Well, it's estimated that the lower Columbia River alone has
- 12:32Speaker 1: about one hundred and ten thousand white sturgeon. That's more
- 12:35Speaker 1: than double the population of second on the list, which
- 12:38Speaker 1: would be the Fraser River with a population of fifty thousand.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Although some legends say the fish can reach two thousand pounds,
- 12:45Speaker 1: the world record is just over eleven hundred pounds. It
- 12:48Speaker 1: was caught by former NHL goalie Kevin Estrada in twenty
- 12:52Speaker 1: twelve on the Fraser River. Where's the Fraser Can't see there?
- 12:58Speaker 1: You go?
- 12:58Speaker 7: I think that's what I was trying to think of
- 13:02Speaker 7: for my second one, but I think the skeena might
- 13:03Speaker 7: be up there too.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Made the right choice.
- 13:05Speaker 5: Yeah, they've that one just got certified.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I think even in the IGFA record books the
- 13:13Speaker 1: world records like four hundred pounds, but it was obviously
- 13:15Speaker 1: well and that was kept a long time ago. Question three.
- 13:20Speaker 1: The topic is biology. Encyclopedia Britannica defines this as quote
- 13:26Speaker 1: very small people who live in Africa or a type
- 13:30Speaker 1: of plant or animal that is smaller than usual size.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Encyclopedia Britannica has two definitions for this word. Defines it
- 13:41Speaker 1: as very small people who live in Africa or a
- 13:45Speaker 1: type of plant or animal that is smaller than the
- 13:47Speaker 1: usual size. Confidence Seth and Randal Randall, you have this
- 13:53Speaker 1: one right, Yes.
- 13:55Speaker 3: I'm thinking of one such animal right now. Okay, so
- 13:59Speaker 3: it is in the past year or two.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Well, that's a hint. Enjoyed it, Brody? Do you have
- 14:04Speaker 1: this one right? Spelling? Spelling does not matter.
- 14:07Speaker 4: I'm leaning towards the confident side.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Yeah. Encyclopedia Britannica defines this as very small people who
- 14:14Speaker 1: live in Africa or a type of plant or animal
- 14:17Speaker 1: that is smaller than the usual size of Floyd.
- 14:23Speaker 2: I don't get that one, Chester Floyd.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Okay, that's good, small people. Is everybody ready? No logan
- 14:32Speaker 1: confidence over here? He's throwing his hair around. You got
- 14:35Speaker 1: this one right?
- 14:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm pretty sure. I think I've seen that documentary.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Oh, okay, more hints for the room, but it hasn't
- 14:42Speaker 1: helped Colin or Corey.
- 14:43Speaker 2: He has us no different than saying that dictionary says this.
- 14:48Speaker 1: The time. I'm giving you all the hints you need,
- 14:50Speaker 1: Colin and Corey. I think we're waiting on you boys.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I feel like I have about two more minutes after
- 14:56Speaker 1: the last question, So hold on. The room did pretty
- 14:59Speaker 1: well there? What What was the hang up Brody on
- 15:02Speaker 1: the last question? Was it not knowing what the white surgeon?
- 15:05Speaker 4: Well, there's so many damn different kinds of sturgeon. I
- 15:08Speaker 4: wasn't sure if those were the great big ones on
- 15:10Speaker 4: the west coast or not.
- 15:13Speaker 1: All right, is everybody ready? Marge, go ahead and reveal
- 15:19Speaker 1: your answers. We have Seth and Marge and Chester and
- 15:24Speaker 1: Randall saying pigmy, Corey saying dwarf, Colin saying micro Logan
- 15:29Speaker 1: saying pigmy, Brody saying dwarf. The dwarf the correct The
- 15:38Speaker 1: correct answer is pigmy p y g m y.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Oh, Marge, you got it. I did not spell.
- 15:47Speaker 1: The animals with a pigmy variety include cormorants, rabbits, elephants, hippos, lemurs, raccoons, owls,
- 15:55Speaker 1: and more. The average height of an adult man from
- 15:58Speaker 1: the African pigmies is four feet eleven inches. It's estimated
- 16:02Speaker 1: that there are about five hundred thousand pygmy people who
- 16:05Speaker 1: live in the Congo. Question four, the topic is cooking. Randall,
- 16:10Speaker 1: what was the pygmy animal that you saw that delighted you?
- 16:13Speaker 1: Had to be a hippopy?
- 16:14Speaker 2: It was?
- 16:15Speaker 3: It was a pygmy hippopotamus at the San Francisco Zoo.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Very satisfying. Look like you could take.
- 16:20Speaker 5: It home as a dwarf.
- 16:22Speaker 3: It was so funny.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Question four, The topic is cooking. This next great question
- 16:27Speaker 1: comes to us via Avery Hartfixon. If you have a
- 16:31Speaker 1: question you think is right for Meat Eat to trivia,
- 16:33Speaker 1: you can send it to trivia at the meat eater
- 16:34Speaker 1: dot com. It's believed that the Space Needle Restaurant created
- 16:39Speaker 1: this type of meal in nineteen sixty two when they
- 16:43Speaker 1: combined beef with crab. And the topic is cooking. It's
- 16:50Speaker 1: believed that the Space Needle Restaurant created this type of
- 16:54Speaker 1: meal in nineteen sixty two when they combined beef with crab.
- 16:59Speaker 3: I don't.
- 17:03Speaker 5: First time it ever happened.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yeah, given out hints, we have a pretty confident room spencer.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Did you go up the Space Needle when you were
- 17:14Speaker 2: in Seattle recently?
- 17:15Speaker 1: I did not know, walked by. It is enough for me.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I went up to the top of the was the
- 17:22Speaker 1: Empire State Building in Chicago's.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Or Building, which is Willis Tower.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Willis Tower, I hate it.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Sears Tower was very disappointing. It was foggy that day,
- 17:36Speaker 1: and I was like, I don't think I need to
- 17:37Speaker 1: do that thing ever again. So I did not go
- 17:39Speaker 1: to the top of the space What were you doing
- 17:40Speaker 1: in Seattle? Went to Taylor Swift.
- 17:43Speaker 7: Oh, you guys had good seats for that.
- 17:47Speaker 1: It was very fun.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Chester.
- 17:48Speaker 4: You know what, I was gonna tell you something about her,
- 17:50Speaker 4: what he got.
- 17:50Speaker 5: She's tangled up with a with animal rights and pete.
- 17:54Speaker 4: He shouldn't go see your concerts anymore.
- 17:57Speaker 1: You know what I think if we followed those rules
- 17:59Speaker 1: every time, we wouldn't have phones, wouldn't have computers, would.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Leasure Swift?
- 18:07Speaker 1: I haven't seen the picture, but I've heard you met
- 18:08Speaker 1: her a couple of Pennsylvania folks. I'll have to show
- 18:11Speaker 1: it up do so everybody have an answer, Maggie, are
- 18:14Speaker 1: you ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 18:17Speaker 1: Seth saying surf and turf, Marge saying surf and turf,
- 18:21Speaker 1: Chester saying s Cargo Randall saying surf and turf. The
- 18:25Speaker 1: rest of the room said surf and turf. They got
- 18:28Speaker 1: it right. The correct answer with surf and turf.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Not too long ago.
- 18:37Speaker 1: For all Australian listeners, it is reef and beef.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Oh I like that.
- 18:42Speaker 1: It's believed that the first surf and turf pairing was
- 18:45Speaker 1: a Filet Mignon and Alaskan King crab legs. The combo
- 18:49Speaker 1: caught caught on in Australia not long after, which they
- 18:53Speaker 1: referred to as reef and beef. Some restaurant experiments with
- 18:57Speaker 1: this term have led to things like the surf and turf,
- 19:00Speaker 1: which is a beef burger that's topped with shrimp, lobster
- 19:04Speaker 1: or crab.
- 19:05Speaker 3: But they don't call it a reef and beef at
- 19:07Speaker 3: Outback Steakhouse, do they. That's an Australian restaurant.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Yeah, as much as Texas Roadhouse is.
- 19:18Speaker 4: A Texas Back in my guiding days, we used to
- 19:22Speaker 4: go to the out Back.
- 19:22Speaker 5: When they had those two for one drink.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Specials Margarita's Cranberry vodka.
- 19:28Speaker 3: One time I had I had a two for one
- 19:30Speaker 3: drink special at an outback and they asked me if
- 19:32Speaker 3: I wanted another one, and they brought out both of
- 19:34Speaker 3: them while I was still on my second beer. I
- 19:36Speaker 3: just thought, this must be Australia. Seems very nice.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Figured out question five. The topic is public lands. This
- 19:46Speaker 1: National Park in Virginia is the closest national park to Washington,
- 19:51Speaker 1: d C. Again, the topic is public lands. This National
- 19:57Speaker 1: Park in Virginia is the closest national park to Washington,
- 20:02Speaker 1: d C.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Oh Boy, spelling.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Shit, spelling does not matter. A confident Randall and Brody
- 20:11Speaker 1: Seth has an answer.
- 20:14Speaker 5: I've been confident on a couple today.
- 20:15Speaker 1: I had none any good chess. Are you going to
- 20:18Speaker 1: get this one right?
- 20:19Speaker 3: No?
- 20:19Speaker 2: Oh my god, I feel like an idiot.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Randal, have you been to this place?
- 20:25Speaker 3: Well, if it's what I'm thinking of, okay, I probably
- 20:33Speaker 3: have been there in the deep dark recesses of my
- 20:36Speaker 3: past that I don't remember as a young child.
- 20:38Speaker 1: This National Park in Virginia is the closest national park
- 20:43Speaker 1: to Washington, d C. Corey without an answer, Corey, do
- 20:49Speaker 1: you know any national parks in that side of the continent? No? Ok,
- 20:54Speaker 1: I spent way more time in these national parks on
- 20:56Speaker 1: this end of the UT is everybody who's going to
- 21:00Speaker 1: come up with an answer, have an answer. Colin Logan,
- 21:05Speaker 1: we count you out, Marche, Are you ready go ahead
- 21:09Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have set saying Shannandoah, Marge
- 21:14Speaker 1: saying Theodore Roosevelt, Chester saying Virginia Beach, Randall saying Shnandoah.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Cory and Colin and Logan without an answer. Brody's saying Shannandoah.
- 21:24Speaker 1: He got it the correct answer is the Shnandoah National Park.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Shenandoah National Park is located about seventy miles straight west
- 21:33Speaker 1: of the White House. Teddy Roosevelt supported making this area
- 21:37Speaker 1: a national park in nineteen oh one, but it wasn't
- 21:40Speaker 1: formally established as one until nineteen thirty five. The park
- 21:43Speaker 1: is best known for the Skyline Drive, which is a
- 21:46Speaker 1: one hundred and five mile road that follows the Blue
- 21:49Speaker 1: Ridge Mountains for the entire length of the park. Phil,
- 21:53Speaker 1: we're halfway through the game of trivia. Give us a
- 21:55Speaker 1: scoreboard update.
- 21:57Speaker 6: Sure thing. We've got Logan and Colin with two points apiece. Maggie, Corey,
- 22:02Speaker 6: Chester and Brody all have three points and tied up
- 22:05Speaker 6: in first place. Both with a perfect game are Randall
- 22:08Speaker 6: and Seth.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Wow. Oh very fun. Randal didn't want to same when
- 22:15Speaker 1: we came in the room.
- 22:16Speaker 3: I'm glad that that was a That was a good choice.
- 22:19Speaker 2: That was a good choice.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Question six. The topic is conservation. This medication, which Donald
- 22:36Speaker 1: Trump said cured his COVID nineteen, can also be used
- 22:40Speaker 1: to kill ticks that live on moose. This medication, which
- 22:47Speaker 1: Donald Trump said cured his COVID nineteen, can also be
- 22:51Speaker 1: used to kill ticks that live on moose. Randal seems
- 22:55Speaker 1: to think he has this one right, going to keep
- 22:57Speaker 1: the perfect game going. Rest the room not quite as confident, Seth,
- 23:02Speaker 1: do you have this one right? Maybe this medication which
- 23:08Speaker 1: Donald Trump said cured his COVID nineteen can also be
- 23:12Speaker 1: used to kill ticks that live on moose?
- 23:14Speaker 2: Did anyone else say that they cured their COVID nineteen?
- 23:17Speaker 1: We could talk about it after, if you would like. Brody,
- 23:20Speaker 1: do you have this one right?
- 23:24Speaker 5: Pretty sure?
- 23:24Speaker 1: I do.
- 23:25Speaker 7: I've heard I've heard it talked about a multiple different platforms.
- 23:30Speaker 2: But I cannot remember the name.
- 23:33Speaker 1: We have Randall, who's getting nervous.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I've got two in mind.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Now.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Did he specifically attributed.
- 23:42Speaker 1: This to one per secty word cure?
- 23:46Speaker 5: M He did not use the word moose.
- 23:49Speaker 3: No, I'm gonna.
- 23:52Speaker 5: I mean thinks.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Hmmm.
- 23:57Speaker 1: It's everybody ready, Randall, I just changed my answer. I
- 24:05Speaker 1: might regret it, but everybody ready, go ahead and reveal
- 24:09Speaker 1: your answers. We have Seth saying ivermectin, Marge saying chloroform.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Chester's saying promethrin. Randall is saying, what does that say? Randal?
- 24:18Speaker 1: This hydroxychloroquin Cordy saying bleach colin without an answer, you.
- 24:24Speaker 5: Don't feel good.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Spencer is saying hydroxy chloroquin. Brody's saying ivermectin. The correct
- 24:31Speaker 1: answer is ivermexin. Seth keeps the perfect game going. Ticks
- 24:39Speaker 1: are the top cause of death for moose that are
- 24:41Speaker 1: less than a year old than New England. Some estimates
- 24:44Speaker 1: say that between seventy and ninety percent of the region's
- 24:47Speaker 1: moose calves are killed by ticks each year. Biologists have
- 24:51Speaker 1: considered using ivermectin to treat herds, but say it's almost
- 24:55Speaker 1: impossible to get moose to eat the right dose on
- 24:57Speaker 1: a frequent enough basis to have any kind of an impact. Randal,
- 25:02Speaker 1: did you have ivermectin?
- 25:04Speaker 3: I had it. Then I erased it and I wrote hydroxychloroquin,
- 25:08Speaker 3: and then I wrote ivermectin at the bottom and crossed
- 25:10Speaker 3: it out to suggest that I had in fact.
- 25:12Speaker 5: Been Randal, did you take I did not.
- 25:17Speaker 3: I did not, But I need something because now I
- 25:19Speaker 3: feel absolutely sick to my stomach.
- 25:21Speaker 1: You asked Seth if other folks have used it. I
- 25:24Speaker 1: saw it's been. It's been used quite a bit, but
- 25:26Speaker 1: I don't think whether it's the FDC or the CDC.
- 25:29Speaker 1: They haven't approved it for like widespread use yet, so
- 25:33Speaker 1: I don't know how popular it is anymore. Question seven
- 25:36Speaker 1: the topic is navigation. This next great question comes to
- 25:39Speaker 1: us via Stephen Ridnella. If you have a question you
- 25:42Speaker 1: think is right for meat Eatter Trivia, you can send
- 25:44Speaker 1: it to Trivia at the medeater dot com. The official
- 25:48Speaker 1: Prime Meridian, which separates the hemispheres and establishes time zones,
- 25:53Speaker 1: is located in this country. The official Prime Meridian, which
- 26:01Speaker 1: separates the hemispheres and establishes time zones, is located in
- 26:06Speaker 1: this country. Randall and Chester each have answers. Chester, do
- 26:16Speaker 1: you have this one right? Probably not Randall. How about you,
- 26:21Speaker 1: yes and you know it or you're guessing?
- 26:23Speaker 3: Well, I think this question is worded. I have some
- 26:27Speaker 3: questions about the question.
- 26:28Speaker 1: And you'll have to take it up with Steve because
- 26:31Speaker 1: he wanted to be involved in the wording of the
- 26:33Speaker 1: question and this is what he agreed on.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Hmmm.
- 26:38Speaker 1: This, the official prime Meridian, which separates the hemispheres and
- 26:42Speaker 1: establishes time zones, is located in this country. Brody, do
- 26:46Speaker 1: you have this one right?
- 26:48Speaker 5: I haven't even written anything now Okay.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Either is Seth who has the perfect game going through
- 26:53Speaker 1: six questions.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Wow, I'm screwed now, Spencer, Well, you.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Could still just write down a country in the game.
- 27:08Speaker 3: I still feel physically upset.
- 27:14Speaker 1: The topic was navigation. It's everybody ready on the line
- 27:23Speaker 1: for Seth. Marge, you ready go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 27:32Speaker 1: We have Seth saying Patagonia, Marge saying Panama, Chester saying Russia,
- 27:38Speaker 1: Randall is saying England, Corey saying Indonesia, Colin saying Australia,
- 27:43Speaker 1: Logan saying Ecuador, Brody saying Greenland. We have a correct
- 27:49Speaker 1: answer in the room. It's England. Randall got it right.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Steve texts me that this would be a great trivia question,
- 27:58Speaker 1: to which I responded, I don't think one is going
- 28:00Speaker 1: to get it right, and I think you and Brody
- 28:02Speaker 1: would complain about its connection to meat eater. And then
- 28:05Speaker 1: Steve said, it's latitude and longitude. It's the basis of
- 28:08Speaker 1: geography and navigation and GPS. I would have gotten it.
- 28:12Speaker 1: I guarantee Randall and Brody would get it. I then
- 28:15Speaker 1: told Steve that I think it would be a zero percent.
- 28:17Speaker 4: I was going to say Ireland. But like the whole
- 28:20Speaker 4: dividing hemispheres thing is what threw me.
- 28:24Speaker 3: Well, it's a specific point. It's a it's a town.
- 28:26Speaker 5: Isn't the way that's which?
- 28:28Speaker 3: Greenwich?
- 28:30Speaker 5: The way that's word.
- 28:31Speaker 4: It makes it sound like half of England is in
- 28:35Speaker 4: the Western Hemisphere and half of England.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Is in Well it probably is then Yeah, that's right, okay,
- 28:42Speaker 1: would yeah again, you can take it up with Steve.
- 28:44Speaker 1: I didn't love this question.
- 28:47Speaker 3: My other either nation versus country that was the forgot
- 28:53Speaker 3: about that another question I had about the question.
- 28:56Speaker 2: But I'd like to move on.
- 28:58Speaker 3: I feel pretty about this question. Thanks everybody.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Question at the topic is foraging. This is a visual
- 29:04Speaker 1: question where Phil is going to show the room a picture.
- 29:07Speaker 1: If you want to see what the room is seeing,
- 29:09Speaker 1: then go watch this episode on meat Eater's YouTube channel.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Here's your prompt. You won't find this fruit in grocery
- 29:16Speaker 1: stores because of its incredibly short shelf life. This is
- 29:21Speaker 1: a visual question. The topic is foraging. You won't find
- 29:25Speaker 1: this fruit in grocery stores because of its incredibly short
- 29:29Speaker 1: shelf life. A very confident room. Almost everyone except for Colin.
- 29:38Speaker 5: I'm not confident.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Brody not confident.
- 29:41Speaker 5: Having a rough one.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Seth, you have this one right now?
- 29:48Speaker 2: I think so? I think I won't say okay.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Okay, Corey, do you have this one right? No? Does
- 29:54Speaker 1: that look familiar at all?
- 29:56Speaker 2: Unfortunately not.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Here's how specific you need to be for your answer.
- 30:00Speaker 1: If you thought the answer was tundras swan, you could
- 30:04Speaker 1: just say swan.
- 30:06Speaker 4: Hmm what No, he's setting himself up for an argument now, Yeah, well,
- 30:11Speaker 4: I just don't.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Hey, I'm not quite sure how I'd have variations on
- 30:15Speaker 3: my answer, although it happens to be a wild ass guest.
- 30:17Speaker 1: So it doesn't really Again. You can see this photo
- 30:21Speaker 1: on meat Eater's YouTube channel. The prompt is you won't
- 30:24Speaker 1: find this fruit in grocery stores because of its incredibly
- 30:28Speaker 1: short shelf life. Is everybody ready mm hmm? Go ahead
- 30:34Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Seth saying mulberry, March
- 30:38Speaker 1: saying huckleberry berry, Chess, you're saying elderberry. Randall is saying
- 30:44Speaker 1: choke cherry, Corey saying salmon berry, Colin saying berry, Logan
- 30:49Speaker 1: saying mulberry, Brody saying elderberry.
- 30:51Speaker 5: I want to change my answer to berry.
- 30:53Speaker 1: We have a correct answer in the room. It's a mulberry.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Few folks got it right now that this getting specific.
- 31:02Speaker 1: There are white mulberries, there are red mulberries. I think
- 31:05Speaker 1: there are even black mulberries. Mulberries are native to North
- 31:09Speaker 1: America and Asia. Their flavor is described as a cross
- 31:12Speaker 1: between a blueberry, BlackBerry, and raspberry. Because they're difficult to
- 31:17Speaker 1: harvest and can only be refrigerated for a few days,
- 31:20Speaker 1: they rarely show up in grocery stores. If you want
- 31:23Speaker 1: to learn how to cook with them, then go to
- 31:25Speaker 1: the mediator dot com and check out Jenny Wheatley's recipe
- 31:28Speaker 1: for mulberry jam.
- 31:29Speaker 4: Are those the ones that carp like to eat when
- 31:31Speaker 4: they fall in the water?
- 31:32Speaker 5: I think so.
- 31:32Speaker 1: I think anything likes to eat them. We used to
- 31:34Speaker 1: have one of these in our backyard and they make
- 31:36Speaker 1: a mess.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Yeah. So we had a white carpet in our house
- 31:40Speaker 2: at the time, and my mom would get so pissed
- 31:43Speaker 2: because I would walk through the mulberries on the ground
- 31:45Speaker 2: and then walk on that white carpet and it would
- 31:47Speaker 2: stain it.
- 31:48Speaker 1: A lot of cities have outlawed the planting of mulberries
- 31:51Speaker 1: for a lot of reasons. They create a lot of pollen,
- 31:53Speaker 1: and they stain everything up. People don't want them overhanging sidewalks.
- 31:57Speaker 1: They also attract a lot of things like you know,
- 32:00Speaker 1: if carp like them, birds like them, raccoons like them.
- 32:03Speaker 1: That is the mulberry phil. We have two questions left.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Where does the leaderboard stand?
- 32:09Speaker 6: Colin, Maggie, Logan, Corey, Chester, and Brody have all been eliminated,
- 32:15Speaker 6: but we've got Randall with six points and Seth with seven.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Wow, this is fun coming for you.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Randall.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Question nine. The topic is fishing. This next great question
- 32:27Speaker 1: comes to his via Caleb McClain. If you have a
- 32:29Speaker 1: question you think is right for Meat Eater Trivia, you
- 32:32Speaker 1: can send it to Trivia at the medeater dot com.
- 32:35Speaker 1: What is the only great lake that you can't fish
- 32:39Speaker 1: with a Canadian license? Topic is fishing? What is the
- 32:45Speaker 1: only great lake that you can't fish with a Canadian license?
- 32:54Speaker 1: The confidence Seth?
- 32:56Speaker 2: I wish I had me a map that would help.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Now that some of you folks who didn't get the
- 33:03Speaker 1: last question right heard the answer of mulberry, did you
- 33:07Speaker 1: then know it? Like, oh, I know what a mulberry is?
- 33:10Speaker 1: Not you, Corey, No, doesn't seem like something we have
- 33:12Speaker 1: in Montana. The native red mulberry. It ends at about
- 33:16Speaker 1: like southeastern South Dakota, but then it goes all the
- 33:18Speaker 1: way to the Atlantic Ocean. So if there are mulberry
- 33:21Speaker 1: trees around here, someone brought them here.
- 33:22Speaker 3: I know people like to fish mulberry flies for carb
- 33:26Speaker 3: Oh really mm hmm, okay like that.
- 33:29Speaker 6: I know that all around some mulberry bushes, monkeys will
- 33:33Speaker 6: chase a weasel.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Huh. I almost wrote this question is like that. For instance,
- 33:37Speaker 1: pop goes the weasel this fruit or something like that.
- 33:40Speaker 1: But have gotten it? No question, you would have known it.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah, okay, Big on Nursery runs again. What is
- 33:50Speaker 1: the only great lake that you can't fish with a
- 33:53Speaker 1: Canadian license? Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead and
- 33:58Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Seth saying Michigan, Marge saying Heuron,
- 34:04Speaker 1: Chester saying Erie, Randall saying Michigan, Corey saying Erie, Colin
- 34:09Speaker 1: saying Hereon Logan saying Superior, Brody saying Michigan. The correct
- 34:15Speaker 1: answer is Lake Michigan. A few folks got it right.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Lake Michigan is the only great lake that's not an
- 34:23Speaker 1: international waterway. Superior, Heuron, Ontario, and Erie are all shared
- 34:28Speaker 1: between the United States and Canada, though the bed of
- 34:31Speaker 1: Lake Michigan is owned by the four states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana,
- 34:36Speaker 1: and Michigan. Phil We have one question left. Tell us
- 34:41Speaker 1: how Randal and Seth are doing.
- 34:43Speaker 6: They're still separated by one point because they both got
- 34:46Speaker 6: the Lake Michigan answer. We got South with eight and
- 34:49Speaker 6: Randall's seven.
- 34:50Speaker 3: I thought of an interesting fact relating to the question.
- 34:53Speaker 3: If you can go about the prime meridian, that's Greenwich meantime.
- 34:58Speaker 3: That's so when you look at time zones and g
- 35:00Speaker 3: everything is plus or minus GMT. That's that's why more
- 35:03Speaker 3: people should should have known that answer.
- 35:05Speaker 1: When I was talking to Steve, he said, Randall will
- 35:07Speaker 1: know what the Greenwich meantime is.
- 35:11Speaker 3: That's fantastic.
- 35:12Speaker 5: Did you guys talk about this question.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Were in a meeting at some point?
- 35:18Speaker 3: No, I can't think of the last I mean, obviously
- 35:21Speaker 3: the name didn't. It didn't come to mind until now.
- 35:23Speaker 3: But I just have been turning over Greenwich in my head.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Question ten.
- 35:27Speaker 4: Steve should be thinking of questions that everyone else will
- 35:30Speaker 4: get right.
- 35:31Speaker 1: I agree. I agree Question ten. The topic is hunting.
- 35:36Speaker 1: What bo brand has models like the Carbon Matrix, Carbon Spider,
- 35:41Speaker 1: and Carbon Defiant. The confidence Seth and Randall, which would
- 35:47Speaker 1: mean this game is going to end with Seth as
- 35:50Speaker 1: the winner. We'll see what they have when we flip
- 35:53Speaker 1: over the boards and the question is confident what bow
- 35:56Speaker 1: brand has models like the Carbon Matrix, Carbon and Spider
- 36:01Speaker 1: and Carbon Defiant. A very confident room all around. It's
- 36:10Speaker 1: everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 36:16Speaker 1: Seth saying hoit, Marge without an answer, Chester saying ho
- 36:19Speaker 1: Randall saying hoy, Corey and Colin and Logan and Brody
- 36:23Speaker 1: all saying hoy. They got it. The correct answer is Hoight.
- 36:29Speaker 1: Hoight Archery was started by Earl Hoight Senior in nineteen
- 36:33Speaker 1: thirty one. Since archery returned to the Olympics in nineteen
- 36:37Speaker 1: seventy two, Hoy has won the most medals in the
- 36:40Speaker 1: hunting community. Hoight is known for their flagship Carbon bows,
- 36:43Speaker 1: which they've been building for about fifteen years.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Seth is our winner with nine correct answers. Well gone, Seth,
- 36:50Speaker 2: that's my best trivia ever.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Just imagine if I didn't have that hard to ask
- 36:54Speaker 1: Steve question in there, it could have been a perfect game.
- 36:56Speaker 2: I know thanks to Seth that dumb question.
- 37:00Speaker 1: As the winner, you get to choose where the five
- 37:02Speaker 1: hundred dollars donation for Meat Eater goes. What's it going
- 37:05Speaker 1: to be?
- 37:06Speaker 2: I'm gonna do turkeys for tomorrow.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Oh okay, I don't know that we've given to them
- 37:09Speaker 1: before we can together, okay, and then we've done NWTF.
- 37:13Speaker 1: I don't know we've done turkeys for What do you
- 37:15Speaker 1: like about them?
- 37:15Speaker 2: I just love turkeys, and they're just another conservation or
- 37:18Speaker 2: it's dedicated to the wild turkey that's doing good work.
- 37:21Speaker 1: So they have a fun logo, got all them dang
- 37:24Speaker 1: turkeys on? I think there is there even a chick
- 37:26Speaker 1: in the logo?
- 37:27Speaker 2: No, remember there might be.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Yeah, well done, seth five hundred dollars going their way.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Almost the perfect game, waiting for another one to happen.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Join us next time for more Meat Eater Trivia, the
- 37:40Speaker 1: only game show where conservation always wins.
