- 0:18Speaker 1: Well, Florida just walked into Jordan-Hare Stadium, scored 44 points,
- 0:22Speaker 1: and won its SEC opener, and left Auburn 3-0. There
- 0:27Speaker 1: is a lot to feel good about after that game.
- 0:30Speaker 2: But if you watched the fourth quarter.
- 0:31Speaker 1: And came away feeling completely comfortable with Florida's defense, I'm
- 0:35Speaker 1: not sure we watched the same game. Because while Florida
- 0:38Speaker 1: won the game and they absolutely deserve credit for winning it,
- 0:41Speaker 1: Auburn may also have shown Ole Miss exactly where to
- 0:45Speaker 1: poke at.
- 0:46Speaker 2: For this defense.
- 0:47Speaker 1: And unfortunately for Florida, the guy coming to Gainesville this
- 0:50Speaker 1: week is even better equipped to do it. His name
- 0:53Speaker 1: is Trinidad Chambliss and Florida has a Trinidad Chambliss problem. Now,
- 0:58Speaker 1: before everybody starts freaking out, I'm not saying Florida can't
- 1:01Speaker 1: stop him. I'm not saying this defense is bad. And
- 1:04Speaker 1: I'm definitely not ignoring some of the really good things
- 1:07Speaker 1: Florida did at Auburn. The Gators sacked Byron Brown seven times.
- 1:11Speaker 1: They forced an interception. They made Auburn earn things for
- 1:15Speaker 1: stretches of that game. And Florida controlled the football for
- 1:18Speaker 1: more than 39 minutes. All of those things are really positive.
- 1:23Speaker 1: But here's the part that concerns me. When Brown was
- 1:25Speaker 1: able to get outside the structure of the defense, when
- 1:28Speaker 1: the pocket broke down, when he escaped pressure, when Florida
- 1:32Speaker 1: lost contain, Auburn suddenly became a completely different offense. Brown
- 1:37Speaker 1: finished with 271 yards passing and three touchdowns through the air.
- 1:42Speaker 1: He added 65 rushing yards and another touchdown on the ground.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And late in the game, when Auburn was desperately trying
- 1:49Speaker 1: to come back, Brown's legs became a major problem. On
- 1:53Speaker 1: one fourth quarter scoring drive, he ran three times for
- 1:56Speaker 1: 60 yards, including a 21-yard touchdown. That is not a
- 2:00Speaker 1: small thing when the next quarterback on your schedule is
- 2:02Speaker 1: Trinidad Chambliss. Because Chambliss isn't just a quarterback who can run.
- 2:07Speaker 1: He is a legitimate, high-level passer who can also make
- 2:11Speaker 1: you pay with his legs. And I think that that
- 2:14Speaker 1: distinction right there is important. Last season, after transferring from
- 2:18Speaker 1: Ferris State, Chambliss threw for 3,937 yards, 22 touchdowns, and
- 2:23Speaker 1: only three interceptions. But then he added 527 yards and
- 2:28Speaker 1: eight more touchdowns on the ground. So he's not a
- 2:31Speaker 1: gadget player. That's not somebody Ole Miss is just using
- 2:34Speaker 1: as a quarterback draw every once in a while. This
- 2:38Speaker 1: is the engine of their offense. And three games into
- 2:42Speaker 1: the season, he's picked right back off where he left
- 2:45Speaker 1: off last year. Through the first two games, Chambliss had
- 2:48Speaker 1: 561 yards passing and five touchdowns. Then against LSU on Saturday,
- 2:53Speaker 1: he went 33 of 48 for 363 yards and two touchdowns.
- 2:57Speaker 1: So through three games, he's already at 924 passing yards
- 3:02Speaker 1: and seven touchdowns.
- 3:04Speaker 2: But the play that probably.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Matters more for Florida wasn't one of the 33 completions.
- 3:10Speaker 1: It was what happened when LSU had to come all
- 3:12Speaker 1: the way back. Ole Miss had led in that game 24-7.
- 3:15Speaker 1: LSU erased the lead and tied it at 24 in
- 3:19Speaker 1: the fourth quarter. So now Ole Miss is sitting here
- 3:22Speaker 1: needing an answer. Chambliss takes the Rebels 75 yards on
- 3:26Speaker 1: 13 plays. And on the play that gives them the lead,
- 3:29Speaker 1: he doesn't throw it.
- 3:30Speaker 2: He keeps it. 14 yards. Touchdown.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Ole Miss goes back in front and eventually wins that
- 3:36Speaker 1: game 32-24. That is exactly what makes Trinidad Chambliss difficult.
- 3:42Speaker 1: You can defend the past correctly and still lose the down.
- 3:46Speaker 1: You can pressure and still lose the down. You can
- 3:48Speaker 1: force them off his first read and still lose the
- 3:51Speaker 1: down because the play isn't necessarily over when the play
- 3:54Speaker 1: breaks down. And that's where Florida has to be much
- 3:57Speaker 1: more disciplined this week against Auburn.
- 4:00Speaker 2: There were moments where Florida's pressure was excellent. Seven sacks
- 4:04Speaker 2: is seven sacks.
- 4:05Speaker 1: You don't accidentally do that, but there is a difference
- 4:08Speaker 1: between creating pressure and creating let's call it controlled pressure.
- 4:13Speaker 1: If you rush a mobile quarterback and everybody is just
- 4:15Speaker 1: trying to get to the spot where the quarterback started
- 4:17Speaker 1: the play, you can create escape lanes. And against somebody
- 4:21Speaker 1: like Chambliss, that's deadly. Florida's edge players can't consistently get
- 4:26Speaker 1: too far upfield. The interior rush has to push the
- 4:29Speaker 1: pocket without opening the middle. And whoever is responsible for
- 4:33Speaker 1: quarterback contain has to understand that sometimes making Chambliss stay
- 4:37Speaker 1: in the pocket is is actually more valuable than chasing
- 4:40Speaker 1: a sack and giving him a runway.
- 4:42Speaker 2: That sounds boring. That's not something that's going to show
- 4:45Speaker 2: up on SportsCenter. It may not even show up in the.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Stat sheet, but it may be one of the biggest
- 4:49Speaker 1: keys to the entire game. Once Chambliss gets outside the pocket,
- 4:53Speaker 1: the problem gets bigger. Now your DBs have to cover longer.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Receivers start working scramble rules. Zones begin to stretch. Guys
- 5:01Speaker 1: who are covered for three seconds suddenly aren't covered at
- 5:04Speaker 1: five seconds.
- 5:06Speaker 2: And Ole Miss has enough weapons to make those extended
- 5:08Speaker 2: plays really hurt. We saw that against LSU.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Traylon Ray had seven catches for 115 yards and a touchdown.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Caleb Odom had five catches for 88 yards. Deuce Alexander
- 5:19Speaker 1: caught a touchdown. And Chambliss completed pass after pass against
- 5:22Speaker 1: one of the better teams.
- 5:23Speaker 2: On Ole Miss' schedule.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Here's another number that really jumped out at me from
- 5:27Speaker 1: that LSU game. Ole Miss only ran for 63 yards
- 5:29Speaker 1: as a team. Take a short break from this video
- 5:33Speaker 1: with Jake to give some love to Alumni Hall. Guys,
- 5:36Speaker 1: it's not too late to buy all the latest gear
- 5:39Speaker 1: you're going to need for the rest of the game
- 5:41Speaker 1: days of the fall. You can shop at Alumni Hall
- 5:45Speaker 1: online at alumnihall.com, or if you're in Gainesville, you can
- 5:48Speaker 1: check out their store on Archer Road.
- 5:51Speaker 2: But we have a code, and it works both places.
- 5:53Speaker 2: It's PEAK15. That's P-E-E-K-1-5.
- 5:56Speaker 1: It's going to save you 15% off your entire purchase.
- 5:58Speaker 1: They've got all the best brands that you're looking for. Nike,
- 6:01Speaker 1: Cutter & Buck, Peter Millar, Jordan, everything you could possibly
- 6:05Speaker 1: want all in one place. So either check them out online, alumnihall.com,
- 6:09Speaker 1: or in person at their store on Archer Road. But
- 6:12Speaker 1: don't forget to tell them that Allie sent you. That
- 6:14Speaker 1: code is PEAK15. That's P-E-E-K-1-5. Appreciate Alumni Hall for.
- 6:19Speaker 2: All their support. 63.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And they still put up 426 yards of offense and
- 6:25Speaker 1: beat LSU.
- 6:26Speaker 2: So think about that.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Their traditional running game wasn't particularly effective, but it didn't matter.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Chambliss threw for 363 yards. And when Ole Miss needed
- 6:34Speaker 1: the biggest touchdown of the game, Chambliss ran it in himself.
- 6:37Speaker 2: That tells you exactly what Florida is dealing with.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Ole Miss does not have to have everything working offensively
- 6:43Speaker 1: for Trinidad Chambliss to take over a game. If you
- 6:45Speaker 1: shut down one piece, he just finds another. If the
- 6:48Speaker 1: traditional running game isn't there, he can throw it 48 times.
- 6:51Speaker 1: If the defense drops enough people to make those passing
- 6:54Speaker 1: windows tighter, he can just use his legs. And if
- 6:57Speaker 1: you bring pressure, he's experienced enough to push you if
- 7:01Speaker 1: you don't get home. And that's why this game is
- 7:03Speaker 1: such an interesting test for Brad White in the Florida defense.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I don't think the answer is simply, well, blitz him. Actually,
- 7:09Speaker 1: I think Florida has to pick its spots. The Gators
- 7:12Speaker 1: need pressure, absolutely. But I would rather see Florida make
- 7:15Speaker 1: Chambliss operate through muddy pockets than turn every snap into
- 7:19Speaker 1: backyard football. Make him beat you from inside the structure
- 7:22Speaker 1: of the play. Change the picture after the snap. Disguise
- 7:25Speaker 1: where pressure's coming from. Get hands in passing lanes. Force
- 7:29Speaker 1: Ole Miss into long drives. And above all else, tackle.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Because Auburn showed Florida what happens when one mistake becomes two.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Maybe the quarterback escapes. Okay, that does not mean it
- 7:43Speaker 1: has to become 20 yards. Maybe somebody catches a ball underneath.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Fine. That does not mean it has to become an
- 7:48Speaker 2: explosive play.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Against a quarterback this experienced, Florida probably isn't going to
- 7:53Speaker 1: win every snap.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Nobody does.
- 7:55Speaker 1: The defense just can't allow a six-yard problem to become
- 7:57Speaker 1: a 30-yard problem. And then there's another part of this
- 8:00Speaker 1: that I think is also important. Florida's offense can help
- 8:03Speaker 1: the defense enormously. Against Auburn, the Gators possessed the football
- 8:06Speaker 1: for 39.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Minutes and 16 seconds. That is massive.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Jaden Ball ran 26 times for 162 yards and three touchdowns.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Florida ran for 243 yards as a team. If Florida
- 8:17Speaker 1: could do that again, Trinidad Chambliss can be as dangerous
- 8:20Speaker 1: as he wants standing on the sidelines. That may honestly
- 8:25Speaker 1: be one of Florida's best defensive strategies. Run the football.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Stay on schedule. Convert third downs. Finish drives. Make Ole
- 8:33Speaker 1: Miss play a game where Chambliss only gets so many opportunities.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Because the worst possible version of this matchup for Florida
- 8:40Speaker 1: is a track meet. I don't think Florida wants to
- 8:42Speaker 1: give Ole Miss extra possessions and then ask this defense
- 8:45Speaker 1: to chase Trinidad Chambliss around for 80 plays.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Control the game.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Make Ole Miss drive the length of the field. And
- 8:52Speaker 1: when you have opportunities to get off the field, you
- 8:55Speaker 1: have to finish the job. That was one of the
- 8:57Speaker 1: frustrations against Auburn. Florida had moments when it looked like
- 9:00Speaker 1: the game was over. It was 41-24 in the fourth quarter.
- 9:02Speaker 1: You're thinking, all right, this thing is done. And then suddenly,
- 9:05Speaker 1: Byron Brown rips off runs, Auburn scoring quickly, and Florida
- 9:09Speaker 1: is recovering onside kicks, just trying to get out of
- 9:11Speaker 1: Jordan Hare with a win.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Now, credit Florida. They did get out of there, and
- 9:16Speaker 2: that is hugely important.
- 9:17Speaker 1: It's the point, right? This team experienced that pressure. Things
- 9:20Speaker 1: started going sideways. Auburn had momentum. The stadium woke back up,
- 9:24Speaker 1: and Florida still found a way to finish the game.
- 9:26Speaker 1: There's huge value in that. But Ole Miss is another
- 9:29Speaker 1: step up. Chambliss already played in huge games. He's already
- 9:32Speaker 1: shown he can beat teams with his arm. He's already
- 9:34Speaker 1: shown he can beat teams with his legs. Last season,
- 9:36Speaker 1: he went from a Division II Ferris State to becoming
- 9:39Speaker 1: one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football. And
- 9:41Speaker 1: just Saturday night, with the game tied against LSU in
- 9:44Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, he led the drive that Ole Miss
- 9:46Speaker 1: needed and finished it himself. That is what Florida is
- 9:49Speaker 1: preparing for this week. So when I say Florida has
- 9:52Speaker 1: a Trinidad Chambliss problem, I don't mean the Gators are doomed.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I don't even mean that they necessarily played bad defense
- 9:57Speaker 1: at Auburn. I mean Ole Miss has a quarterback who
- 10:00Speaker 1: strengths line up extremely well with one of the areas
- 10:02Speaker 1: Florida just showed that it needs to clean up.
- 10:05Speaker 2: And that makes this matchup fascinating.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Can Florida rush with discipline instead of just aggression? Can
- 10:11Speaker 1: the linebackers keep their eyes where they belong when Chambliss
- 10:13Speaker 1: extends plays? Can the secondary stay attached to receivers when
- 10:17Speaker 1: the play lasts longer than it was designed to last?
- 10:19Speaker 2: Can Florida tackle in space?
- 10:21Speaker 1: Can the Gators get explosive plays from developing after the
- 10:24Speaker 1: original play breaks down? And can Florida's offense control enough
- 10:28Speaker 1: of this game that Chambliss never gets to get into
- 10:30Speaker 1: a rhythm? Those questions might decide this game. After three games,
- 10:35Speaker 1: I think we know Florida can score. We know Jaden
- 10:37Speaker 1: Baugh can run the football. We know Aaron Filo can
- 10:39Speaker 1: move this offense. And after Auburn, we know Florida can
- 10:42Speaker 1: go on the road in the SEC, take a punch,
- 10:44Speaker 1: and still find a way to win. Now we're going
- 10:47Speaker 1: to learn something different. Can this defense handle a quarterback
- 10:49Speaker 1: who can punish you even when you initially do everything right?
- 10:54Speaker 1: That's what Trinidad Chambliss does so well, and that's what
- 10:56Speaker 1: makes him dangerous. He doesn't always need the original play
- 10:59Speaker 1: to work. Sometimes he just needs the second play, the
- 11:02Speaker 1: one that starts when the pocket breaks down, the one
- 11:04Speaker 1: where the pass rush thinks it's won, the one where
- 11:07Speaker 1: the defensive backs think he's covered his guy, he's done
- 11:10Speaker 1: his job. That is where this quarterback turns into... a
- 11:15Speaker 1: nightmare for teams. The one suddenly the quarterback is running
- 11:18Speaker 1: into open grass. Everybody has to react. And after watching
- 11:22Speaker 1: Byron Brown give Florida problems doing exactly that Saturday night,
- 11:25Speaker 1: this is the matchup I'll be watching more than anything
- 11:27Speaker 1: else when Ole Miss comes into the swamp. Florida survived
- 11:30Speaker 1: the mobile quarterback test at Auburn, but now it gets
- 11:33Speaker 1: the advanced version. This is like a video game and
- 11:35Speaker 1: they've leveled up. I need to know that in practice
- 11:39Speaker 1: this week, Florida is correcting the issues so that they
- 11:42Speaker 1: can handle the next level. We appreciate PrizePix for all
- 11:46Speaker 1: their support. Guys, don't forget to download the PrizePix app.
