Transcript
- 0:01Hello, Welcome to Heat Hop. If something's off of me, just
- 0:04Joey T I've got a fan. I hope you guys can't hear it.
- 0:09I've got a fan on the side of me here because it's pretty warm in
- 0:13my house and I can't. My A/C is so loud for sure.
- 0:16When I had the home inspection done for this place, I remember
- 0:21I was walking back into the apartment to check the mailbox
- 0:26or do something. I don't know what it was and my
- 0:29realtor and the home inspector person was in there and the home
- 0:32inspector person had the panel down from the A/C and the
- 0:35ceiling and it was running and I noticed how loud it was.
- 0:39But I just assumed, well the panel's down and maybe it was at
- 0:44Max speed because the home inspector guys testing the thing
- 0:49and pushing it to make sure it's OK.
- 0:52There's only one speed and it's like loud all the time.
- 0:56And I wish for how much I wish for quiet A/C.
- 1:01And it's not that bad, but it's loud enough for when I'm in the
- 1:03living room I have to turn up the volume on the TV for sure.
- 1:07When the A/C kicks in when I'm sleeping is not that bad.
- 1:11It's actually the quietest when I'm in this room in the house
- 1:15right now, because it's the furthest away from the A/C.
- 1:17But because when I'm recording, though, when I'm recording for
- 1:19YouTube, when I'm recording for the podcast, you know we need to
- 1:23keep the noise down. So I have to turn it off.
- 1:25So sometimes when I'm recording this, I'm sweating, but I have
- 1:29this fan which is pretty quiet. So anyways, that was probably
- 1:32TMI, but I am in the middle of packing for my cruise.
- 1:42As you're listening to this, I am still on my cruise.
- 1:45Hopefully I made it. Even if I didn't, I think this
- 1:48is still going to go up whenever this goes up, but I was getting
- 1:54prepared to do everything before I went off on this.
- 1:57Cruise is in Europe is for 10 days.
- 1:59The annoying thing about going on vacation and going on a trip
- 2:02is the amount of tours you have and errands you have multiply
- 2:09because you have a vacation coming up.
- 2:11You have to do you order the laundry, You have to clean up
- 2:15the house, but you want to leave it dirty.
- 2:17You have to take all the recycling, take out all the
- 2:19trash, run the dishwasher, wrap up this, do the dry cleaning,
- 2:24whatever, all this stuff. So there's like a bunch of stuff
- 2:26that I have to do. And I yesterday went out to try
- 2:31to fix my flat tire because I did my citizenship test earlier.
- 2:37And when I got back to the parking lot, the car beeped at
- 2:41me right away when I turned it on to say you're you have a flat
- 2:43tire, but it's all the tires. It's got pressure sensors and
- 2:47all the tires. This stupid car that I've had,
- 2:50it's got so many tire issues. I really don't drive that much.
- 2:55I had worked remotely before and now I don't have the 9:00 to
- 2:595:00 I drive. I walked to the gym.
- 3:02Now I used to drive to the gym. This year I've been walking to
- 3:05the gym because it's actually pretty close.
- 3:07I just no reason for me to drive really.
- 3:09I drive when I go to the airport or about to go somewhere further
- 3:12away or when I get groceries. I really don't drive that often.
- 3:18On an average week. I drive once and it's not very
- 3:21far. So to have driven so little and
- 3:25haven't had the car for that long, I have it for two years
- 3:28maybe D by the tires this stupid car goes to is like ever
- 3:32ridiculous. But I couldn't get the tire
- 3:34fixed yesterday due to complicated technical reasons
- 3:38that I will not bore you with now.
- 3:41So, but the the new car comes in like 4 or five weeks.
- 3:46So I'm hoping the new car I'll have much better luck with tires
- 3:50and I just need to when I'm back from the cruise back from
- 3:54Europe, I'll fix the tire and then I will it would just go
- 3:59away. It'll be traded in.
- 4:00So there you go. Not a very, not a very patient
- 4:04person. I went to this one, this tire
- 4:05place that I usually go to that a mile, mile, mile and a half,
- 4:1010 minute drive, something like that.
- 4:12And I've been there two or three times.
- 4:15You know when you have cars sometime your tires puncture you
- 4:18can get a patch. Sometimes you need new tires
- 4:20because they're worn. So I've gone to this place a
- 4:22couple of times and basically they said well because of this
- 4:29technical whatever thing, we can't patch a tire, but you
- 4:32could try a mom and pop shop or you go to a discount tire
- 4:37because I guess this guy knows the type of places that would
- 4:41like skirt the rules per se or just patch it and not worry
- 4:45about the whatever. And I looked up there.
- 4:49The next closest discount tire was North North Hollywood.
- 4:56I think technically or on the edge of it, it'd be a 2025
- 4:59minute drive. And oh, by the way, my phone
- 5:02right now, I ran out of several data for the month and it ran
- 5:07out a few days ago and it renews on like Sunday this Sunday.
- 5:13So I don't have any bars. I I can get phone calls and text
- 5:19messages, but I don't do either of those things on my phone.
- 5:22It's all about the Internet. So I was doing this while my
- 5:25phone didn't have Internet, So this guy told me this and and
- 5:29what he told me the technical reasons why, I actually kind of
- 5:33knew. So again, I'm not going to bore
- 5:36you guys all the technical car mumble jumbo.
- 5:38So I wasn't mad at all, but I kind of sort of knew in the back
- 5:41of my head. I wasn't acting thinking about
- 5:42it, but I actually knew about that.
- 5:43But anyways, I didn't have Internet, I couldn't Google look
- 5:47up anything on my phone. So it's this place is close to
- 5:51my house anyway. So I just drove back to the
- 5:52house, parked the car, got back to my apartment and looked up.
- 5:56The next closest discount tire place was 20 minutes.
- 6:00And I was thinking, I can get it fixed now and just get it over
- 6:04with or I just have to worry about it when I come back.
- 6:08And this was two days before I was supposed to fly off to
- 6:14Europe. And I could have just done all
- 6:18the effort that day, but I just didn't want to be.
- 6:22I didn't want to run that chore, that errand, right at that time.
- 6:27And I was like, we're just going to have to deal with this when I
- 6:33come back. A lot of the times when I've
- 6:35driven to the airport, my tire has blown.
- 6:37So this time I'm going to take a lift or an Uber, which I'm very
- 6:43thankful for people that drive lives in Ubers and provide
- 6:49people with that service. Maybe taxi drivers don't feel
- 6:52the same way. And it's I think it's a great
- 6:56service for people to use, be able to like get around.
- 7:00I think it's great. I much rather drive myself.
- 7:05I would rather rent a car and drive myself if it wasn't really
- 7:08more expensive or if it wasn't so difficult to rent a car.
- 7:13I don't like being in a car with a complete stranger.
- 7:19When I was in Chicago for market days.
- 7:22Previous years when I met the market days, I think we took
- 7:24Ubers and Lyps everywhere. This year, partially to save
- 7:28money, I took the train everywhere and it was actually
- 7:32surprisingly easy. Just take the train.
- 7:34I don't know why we didn't take train more often before and it
- 7:38was only 5 bucks for each train ride, which is cheaper than
- 7:412030. Forty $50.00 for to get a Lyft
- 7:45or Uber or whatever. But I don't love the idea of
- 7:51being in a car with a stranger. Not because I think it's a
- 7:57dangerous thing, but I don't like to make small talk.
- 8:04I don't like to socialize. A lot of Uber drivers, maybe not
- 8:08a lot. There's there's enough of them.
- 8:10A lot of Uber and Lyft drivers will make small talk with you.
- 8:14I remember one time I needed to take a longer ride to, oh, I
- 8:20needed to take a Uber Lyft to get to a car dealership because
- 8:25I just bought a car that needed to pick it up.
- 8:27I didn't have a car, so I had to take a Uber.
- 8:32And the dealership was kind of far away.
- 8:34It was like almost an hour away. So I was in this car.
- 8:38I don't know how we got into it. This lady, somehow she started
- 8:44talking about politics. And that's the last thing.
- 8:48Don't. If you're going to make small
- 8:49talk, don't talk about. Don't talk about politics.
- 8:53Doing a presidential election year.
- 8:56You know what I mean? Like, I don't want to hear it.
- 8:59And it's not the type of conversation you can have light,
- 9:06pleasant conversation with with any random person, at least not
- 9:11in the United States. In this type of political
- 9:13environment that we have right now.
- 9:15I just don't like the small talk.
- 9:18I want to sit back and relax and not say anything.
- 9:22On the apps. Now, though, I think you can
- 9:25select quietness. I think if you order the comfort
- 9:30option or whatever, there's an option to say you want a quiet
- 9:33ride. But I've heard from other people
- 9:35this the quiet option means that you don't want to hear anything,
- 9:39which means you're also telling the driver to, like, turn their
- 9:42music off. They can listen to whatever
- 9:44music they want. I've had people play jazz,
- 9:48classical, piano, rap, hip hop. I really don't care.
- 9:53I always prefer them play the music because when it's just
- 9:57dead silent in the car and it's you and the driver, it's it
- 10:02could be a little awkward. So I don't try to option on
- 10:07because I've heard the option means you don't want to talk and
- 10:10you want to sit in absolute silence, which I don't want to
- 10:14do that. I don't want to sit in absolute
- 10:15silence. I don't want them to talk to me.
- 10:17I don't want them to make conversation, but they can have
- 10:20whatever music on that they want.
- 10:22Sometimes the Uber drivers will have their own phone call going
- 10:25and it's sometimes weird because I'm the type of person where if
- 10:30you are, I sometimes can't tell whether you're talking to me or
- 10:34not. There have been more than once
- 10:37or twice where not in an Uber car, car ride situation, but
- 10:44someone from slightly from a small distance away, a slight
- 10:50distance away. They say something in my general
- 10:53direction or they say something in their general vicinity and I
- 10:57thought they were talking to me, but they were not so awkward.
- 11:01I and missing some part of the Spidey sense that allows me to
- 11:09reliably differentiate between when someone is a short distance
- 11:12away, whether the tongue to me or not.
- 11:15The other thing is, I'm also very bad at sometimes actually
- 11:21understanding what someone is saying.
- 11:23I was with David Lamb. I don't know where this was.
- 11:25I was someone. I don't know where's David Lamb?
- 11:27I was with someone and we were out and about doing something
- 11:32and we were trying to buy something or order drinks or
- 11:35something at restaurant. Some situation and someone was
- 11:39asking me something. Maybe we're ordering food,
- 11:41someone's asking me something. I had this poor lady repeat
- 11:46herself three times because I kept not understanding what she
- 11:51was saying. I don't remember what she
- 11:53exactly said. We were ordering drinks or
- 11:56coffee or food or something. Some very regular everyday
- 11:59situation, but her accent was just thick enough for the life
- 12:03of me I could not understand what she was.
- 12:05She's repeated herself three times until David or whoever I
- 12:09was with, she translated for me what the person was saying,
- 12:13like, oh, I'm horrible with accents.
- 12:17I can't deal with them horrible with figuring out whether
- 12:24someone's talking to me or not, so something's wrong with my
- 12:28hearing for sure. And I don't like the small talk.
- 12:32But anyways, this is a big tension, guys.
- 12:36My car, it's got the flat tire. I will fix it when I'm back.
- 12:41By the way, this is recorded two weeks ago because I can't record
- 12:46and upload a podcast while I'm on the ship, but I have a
- 12:49schedule. Every, every Thursday you're
- 12:50getting a podcast, but I'm going to just take an Uber.
- 12:55Sometimes you get in the Uber and it's like not so nice inside
- 12:59when you just get the regular Uber X or the regular Lyft.
- 13:03Sometimes it's like a decent car.
- 13:06I've never been in, OK, I was going to say I've never been in
- 13:09a dirty car, but I think once in a great while, rarely I've been
- 13:14in a car. That's not the cleanest.
- 13:17I wouldn't say it's outright dirty, but it's not been the
- 13:22cleanest. I was in Chicago couple months
- 13:26ago with my friend to see the Trice concert.
- 13:28I mentioned this the podcast the week after when I came back and
- 13:32we were at the shopping mall and then we were both grabbing a
- 13:37Lyft for Uber to go back to the hotel.
- 13:40This car was beat up. It was a little Scion like a
- 13:44Toyota thing, and the paint was completely not shiny.
- 13:48You know how people do the matte finish paint or like the vinyl
- 13:52wrap to make the car intentionally not glossy
- 13:55looking? But it looks good.
- 13:58This was this is not the same. This is when the paint on your
- 14:02car has acid rain and corroded away.
- 14:08So the side of the car was Gray, the rest of the car was white.
- 14:12The paint, the white paint had faded away.
- 14:14That's how bad it was. And from the sound of the engine
- 14:17and judging by how many loose interior trim pieces were loose
- 14:22inside the car. And when I remember this because
- 14:26he said it was his first day or week or whatever doing lift.
- 14:31And in my head I was thinking, first of all, he had a lot of
- 14:34trouble finding where we were. He couldn't find us.
- 14:37We were very like exactly where we dropped a pin in the app and
- 14:42he kept circling and circling and circling.
- 14:44He couldn't find us. The second thing is his car was
- 14:47in horrible shape. This car would not pass an
- 14:49inspection for sure. If you got pulled over and the
- 14:53cops saw your car like that, they would be suspecting
- 14:56something fishy is going on here.
- 14:58And the third thing is we got in the car.
- 15:01He said something like it's his first day or week or whatever
- 15:04that he's driving. And the standard response was,
- 15:08oh, you're doing a great job, blah, blah, blah.
- 15:09In my head, I was thinking, this is not going to be a very long
- 15:12career as a driver for you. If you can't just use your GPS
- 15:18and just drive to the pin, you just drop a pin on the road,
- 15:21just drive there. And the second, your car isn't
- 15:24such disarray. It's in such like bad condition.
- 15:29I don't think you're going to get that many five stars,
- 15:31honestly. So yeah, I am going to get, it's
- 15:39not very money saving. I'm supposed to be saving money
- 15:41and not splurging on anything. Well, I mean, I'm going to
- 15:43Europe for a cruise. I guess that's kind of kind of a
- 15:46being hypocrite there. But I was going to get slightly
- 15:50nicer Uber or Lyft. But when you go into the app,
- 15:52you can select a slightly nicer car like a Luxor Black or
- 15:55whatever. Sometimes you check, because
- 15:59while we're in Chicago for that price concert after the concert,
- 16:03we're trying to take a car back to the hotel.
- 16:06And the price for a Lux, like a nicer car, was actually a little
- 16:12cheaper than the regular ones because everyone got it from
- 16:14this concert, from this giant arena.
- 16:16Like thousands of people, everyone called a regular Uber
- 16:20extra regular lift. And because everyone was trying
- 16:24to get a regular car, the prices for those spiked up.
- 16:28No one thought to get the Lux or the premium option because most
- 16:32people don't. So I was scrolling through the
- 16:34app to get a, like nicer car, was 5 or 10 bucks cheaper,
- 16:39didn't get the regular one, and it was going to be, you know, a
- 16:42shorter wait, so I yeah, so sometimes, especially if you're
- 16:46coming out of a crowded situation, make sure you check.
- 16:48But sometimes more expensive options are cheaper and faster.
- 16:51So there you go. My flight's not too very late at
- 16:53night and I just want a nice, relaxing, peaceful minus small
- 16:59talk start to my vacation trip. I have to hop on three planes to
- 17:03get to Europe. I'm going to be in transit for a
- 17:05long time, so I want it to be a nice peaceful start.
- 17:09So I'm thinking I'll get the Lux option.
- 17:12I'm going to maybe have to toggle that quiet ride, whatever
- 17:15thing. Headphones on.
- 17:17Sometimes they just talk to you. I think I need my headphones on,
- 17:20and based my phone doesn't have bars, I'm going to be just
- 17:25listening to music in the car, I guess.
- 17:28Yeah, so there you go. I was going to go to one of the
- 17:32airport lounges and get food there, but I have access to
- 17:37certain lounges for my credit cards and frequent flyer status
- 17:40or whatever. But they close at 10:00 and I
- 17:44couldn't, but they close at 10 and my fight is like midnight,
- 17:49but for the If you ever been at a busy airport and sometimes you
- 17:53see lines for something random at the airport and in airport,
- 17:59you don't see a line unless it's TSA or at the gate.
- 18:03So be, and especially be in the larger International Airport and
- 18:06you see a random lineup that's not for a gate and not for TSA.
- 18:10It's probably for a lounge because airport lounges are so
- 18:14crowded now. I was in Denver, Denver
- 18:19International Airport. They have a Amex lounge there
- 18:22and I like going to the Amex lounges.
- 18:23There's some of the better lounges.
- 18:25Denver airport is a very busy airport.
- 18:27It's a massive airport and I transited through there two or
- 18:33three times recently, earlier this year, earlier in the summer
- 18:36and the first time I went there, I did have some time to kill,
- 18:39but not a lot. Went to the Amex Lounge and they
- 18:43had started doing a wait list. So basically they get your phone
- 18:47number, they text you when they have a spot available, they text
- 18:50you back. I didn't have enough time to
- 18:52actually make it back because I only had 4045 minutes before my
- 18:56next fight. It wasn't enough time to wait
- 18:58all that, be on the wait list and do all that and still have
- 19:01time to go into the lounge and do anything useful.
- 19:03But the second time I went back, did the wait list thing again.
- 19:07So many people have these credit cards and everything now they
- 19:11were handing them out like candy.
- 19:13The airline statuses during the pandemic to get people to fly
- 19:16more that there's so many people that have lounge access and the
- 19:22the lounge passes and this and that.
- 19:25Sometimes I just find a quiet area of the airport.
- 19:30I find a gate where there are no flights coming up, like an empty
- 19:34gate and I just chill there that.
- 19:36If you don't have lounge access, I will tell you if you find an
- 19:39empty gate or like a quiet area in the airport to chill out at,
- 19:44that is likely more peaceful and a more luxurious experience.
- 19:50They're trying to find a seat in a busy lounge.
- 19:54But as you go into a lodge, when it's busy, like there's a
- 19:56lineup. First of all, God knows how long
- 19:58you're gonna wait. Second, you go in as completely
- 20:01packed. Yes, there's like food and
- 20:04drinks in there. The National Lamp just have free
- 20:06alcohol, like open bar kind of. They cut you off.
- 20:08You can't just drink 20 shots or whatever, but it's open bar and
- 20:12they have hot foods and they've got cookies and fruits, that
- 20:15kind of that part of it. The food and drink part is very
- 20:18very nice but. God help you, you need to find a
- 20:21place to sit down, to have that drink, to eat that free food.
- 20:24If the lounge is very busy, the seating is going to be very
- 20:28difficult to come by. So a lot of times I'm even do
- 20:32the lounges. So for the people that don't
- 20:34have lounge access that are jealous, don't because I have
- 20:40access to decent amount of lounges when I travel.
- 20:42Now, depending on where I'm going, if it's international
- 20:44flight, what airport I'm in, half the time I don't go because
- 20:47I would rather just have more space and you have more space if
- 20:52you find empty gate to camp out at for like a couple hours.
- 20:55No, there's no free food at when you just do that and there's no
- 20:59free drinks. But it beats lining up for 3045
- 21:05however long it is to get into a super busy lounge just to get
- 21:09the free food, but then having to, like, find a tiny little
- 21:13nook to eat it in, assuming they even have free seats, right.
- 21:19So the the lounge experience is not what it used to be, and it's
- 21:23not what it's cracked up to be now, unfortunately.
- 21:27All right. I've been watching.
- 21:30I mentioned this before. I've been watching a lot of
- 21:32HGTV. It's the thing.
- 21:33I put it on the background. I put YouTube on the background
- 21:36as well. But when I'm preparing to go on
- 21:39to a long flight, I try not to watch anything on YouTube,
- 21:43because anything I want to watch on YouTube I put onto my tablet
- 21:46and I'll save it for when I'm on the plane.
- 21:48There's I mentioned last a couple of podcasts ago, I
- 21:53mentioned The Heart Stopper, which is a TV show on Netflix.
- 21:58Season 2 just came out, and I was obsessed with the first
- 22:01season. I mentioned it and I downloaded
- 22:05it onto my tablet because I was going to watch it when I was
- 22:08flying to Marketplace in Chicago a month ago, and I didn't end up
- 22:14watching it. There's this weird thing
- 22:16sometimes where I feel like, oh, I want to save it for later
- 22:21because I don't want to just watch it and be like have it be
- 22:23over, which is kind of like a very weird thing to it's a very
- 22:26weird feeling to have. But I haven't watched that.
- 22:30I downloaded a whole bunch of new videos but Discover Plus,
- 22:34which is what HGTV comes on, the streaming service, the app, I
- 22:37don't think the app lets you download anything or with the
- 22:41cheap the cheapest plan I bought which is 5 bucks a month, which
- 22:44is I can really afford for that. Or maybe the cheapest plan does
- 22:47let you download anything. So I'm like okay.
- 22:51I'm packing for my flight and everything.
- 22:53There are movies and shows and stuff that I can download that I
- 22:57will save for when I'm flying and the long lay over some long
- 23:01flights. I'll save that to watch there.
- 23:03And I'm gonna watch something that I can't download, which is
- 23:05HGTV, which I watch a lot of anyways, I love watching HGTV.
- 23:09I've been watching House Hunters a lot, and there's Ali Wong's a
- 23:15comedian. I'm I'm sure a bunch of you know
- 23:17her. And in one of her stand up
- 23:19specials, she makes this joke about House Hunters where you
- 23:23know which house they're going to pick.
- 23:26It's whichever house Deborah wants.
- 23:29As in it's whichever house the wife wants.
- 23:32You know F the husband, right? And it's kind of a fun game to
- 23:36watch the show, like watch House Hunters and decide which house
- 23:40you're going to get at the end. But my favorite show is the ones
- 23:44where they do the remodels I would love to have.
- 23:48I would love to find a fixer upper.
- 23:50This is not compatible with my current financial situation
- 23:54right now, but I would love for one day in the hopefully not too
- 24:00distant future to be able to buy a fixer upper.
- 24:05Like a completely rundown house that just needs to be gutted,
- 24:08hasn't been renovated ever. It's built like 50 years ago and
- 24:14everything needs to be remodeled.
- 24:16Basically. I would love to find a fixer
- 24:18upper, gut it, and then just do it exactly how I would want it.
- 24:23I think that would be so much fun.
- 24:25And I think that puts a bunch of equity in the house as well.
- 24:28You do it right, but that takes a lot of time.
- 24:31In HGTV, in TV Land, they build a whole house.
- 24:35They they can remodel a whole house in two to three months and
- 24:39that's with that's from TV magic and with like HGTV.
- 24:44I'm sure when they do these shows where they got a whole
- 24:47house and remodel the whole thing, obviously you're only
- 24:50seeing 30 minutes or an hour of that remodel.
- 24:52But they tell you what the timeline is.
- 24:54It's seven weeks or it's three months or however long it is.
- 24:59I think that's a very accelerated schedule because for
- 25:01first of all, for TV, they need to record and do a certain
- 25:06number of houses, basis one house per episode, and they need
- 25:10to do enough houses in a short enough amount of time to be able
- 25:13to come up new seasons of all the shows, right?
- 25:16But in the real world, I think it's not three to four months to
- 25:20redo a whole house, it's 6 to 12 months.
- 25:24It takes maybe even upwards of a year to have like a big remodel
- 25:29on a house, but I would love to be able to pick the countertops
- 25:33that I like on my quartz. I would love to pick like even
- 25:37little nitty picky things like the type of light switches that
- 25:40are to be installed, the type of windows, the type of doors,
- 25:44things like that which is like the really geeky part of me.
- 25:48I would love to be able to build my own house and in in in
- 25:53sometime in the future. I would, I would love for that
- 25:55experience. My one of my good friends in
- 25:57Sydney, he just did that. He bought, I kind of sort of ran
- 26:03down house. There's actually a funny story
- 26:04about that when he first bought that house, it was before the
- 26:07pandemic and I visited for Mardi Gras, which is kind of sort of
- 26:12like the Sydney Pride for Sydney Mardi Gras I visited there and
- 26:18his house has a bunch of, it's like a row house.
- 26:21It's got a bunch of levels and I actually slept with him, not
- 26:26have sex with him, but I shared a bed with him because he had a
- 26:28whole bunch of people visiting. The whole house was full of
- 26:31visitors and I really, you know, we're good friends.
- 26:34So we just like he got a king size bed.
- 26:35So like I just like slept in his bed with him.
- 26:38And the thing with the house is there were this sounds super
- 26:43gross and it is, it's super gross.
- 26:46There were cockroaches in the house.
- 26:51No joke. This, not kidding.
- 26:53Like, literally there were cockroaches in the house.
- 26:55I remember during the day we'd be hanging on the kitchen and
- 26:58once in a while there'll be a cockroach that like, crawls up
- 27:01into the counter. And I hate, hate, hate
- 27:06cockroaches. Like cockroaches is probably
- 27:09like one of the things I hate the most.
- 27:11Because because I think when I grew up, sometimes we had
- 27:16cockroaches because we grew up in Hong Kong.
- 27:18It's like a hot, humid climate, You know, it just, it just
- 27:22sometimes you just see them right in like dry, cold climates
- 27:25you don't see them as much, but in warm, humid climates you've
- 27:28seen them more often. So I think I got really freaked
- 27:32out seeing them as a kid, so that probably didn't help.
- 27:35And they just, they run. They run so fast and they're so
- 27:37hard to kill and sometimes they're massive.
- 27:39Some of them fly anyway, so it freaks me out just talking about
- 27:43it. As I got older, I've been, you
- 27:46know, now that I'm an adult, I'm a little less freaked out by
- 27:49that. But anyways, stuck in his bed
- 27:53and one night I felt something on my back.
- 27:58You know, sometimes you just get like a like, you know, a strand
- 28:01of hair or something and like it itches, or like you just get a
- 28:03random itch, but it's nothing. But Long story short, I was
- 28:08sleeping in his bed and it was in the basement and there was a
- 28:13cockroach that was crawling on my back.
- 28:14Basically something was definitely crawling on my back
- 28:16and like I woke up and I got completely freaked out and like
- 28:19brushed off my back. And when I turned around the
- 28:22cockroach was like had like crawled off the bed by then.
- 28:26But like I was so, so freaked out to have a cockroach crawled
- 28:31my back like in when I was sleeping in bed.
- 28:35It was like so horrible. Anyways, what the entire
- 28:41basement up is. There are four of us that was
- 28:44sleeping in the basement like they were.
- 28:45They're all really good friends of mine and I remember David
- 28:47Lamb was one of them. David Lamb said I woke him up
- 28:50obvious because I was yelling and like freaking out.
- 28:53David Lamb's like he's half asleep.
- 28:55He wasn't trying to shave me or make make it funny, but I think
- 28:59he was just half asleep and he just said something.
- 29:00Whatever was the first thing on his mind.
- 29:02What he said was, oh why do you have to be so dramatic in his
- 29:06half asleep state? But anyways, his house is
- 29:10completely redone now throughout the pandemic.
- 29:12I think he got the purpose and everything.
- 29:14He got it together and when I first visited his place, it was
- 29:17like a few years ago before the pandemic.
- 29:19But I visited him again also for Sidney Mardi Gras earlier this
- 29:24year and his place. It just got finished in the
- 29:27winter. It's completely done now.
- 29:29Knock, no cockroaches. The insect situation is
- 29:32completely taken care of. But he did what I wanted to do
- 29:36to basically he got a house that needed a lot of work.
- 29:39He got it the entire place, and from the outside it looks the
- 29:43same. But the inside it's like
- 29:44completely redone. Like every every piece of
- 29:47drywall is new, every light fixture is new, every floorboard
- 29:51is brand new, every towel in the shower and the kitchen is brand
- 29:55new. It's got like a super, super
- 29:57nice place. It's done like a very modern
- 29:59way, which is also the way I would love to do it.
- 30:01Very modern. A lot of wood accents, which I
- 30:04love. Really nice kitchen, really nice
- 30:06bathrooms. So I would love to be able to do
- 30:09that. So if you wanna help me achieve
- 30:13that dream, maybe you can. I just need some money.
- 30:16I think I need to maybe get back on that 9:00 to 5:00.
- 30:19That's really the dream that I have.
- 30:21But anyways, thank you for listening to another episode of
- 30:24the podcast. Again, I'm in Europe, assuming I
- 30:27didn't miss the cruise ship on my cruise right now, but next
- 30:31week we will return to Berkeley scheduled programming and I will
- 30:35have an update on the cruise and stories for Europe from you.
- 30:40Until next time, bye.
