- 0:29Inside I shall end in a spider lands already.
- 0:33In the Shocks are live heart takes We'll talk Keeping
- 0:49It True from the high school halls.
- 0:52The podcast kills. So I need off your show is hot
- 0:58grab. Your pussy, let's get into it.
- 1:03No shoulder, no flop, just real talk.
- 1:06Let's do it. Ready or not, here we go.
- 1:13Can't come up man to start the show.
- 1:22All right, welcome to hot takes the Murph man coming to you live
- 1:24here form from Porter Studios in El Paso, TX.
- 1:29I am the Murph man and this is my Co host Connor.
- 1:32How we doing today, Connor? Doing good today Murph man, how
- 1:34you doing today? I'm doing pretty good.
- 1:37I am doing pretty good. I got to tell you before I begin
- 1:39the show, we're wearing our Crush Cancer team jerseys.
- 1:44If you've been watching the show for a while, you know, my wife
- 1:47passed away from cancer about almost 11 years ago.
- 1:51And every October, we always wear pink as much as we can.
- 1:55So you know one thing, since you're a football fan, Connor,
- 2:00you know, football used to, everyone used to wear pink.
- 2:03You know why they're not wearing pink now?
- 2:05Why? Because they've gone to the
- 2:07rainbow colors to support all cancers.
- 2:11So people are saying, you know, like, oh, the NFL doesn't
- 2:13support breast cancer anymore. No, they just chose to not focus
- 2:16on breast cancer because there's other kinds of cancer, such as
- 2:18the one I had skin cancer, right?
- 2:22Yeah. So, yeah.
- 2:23So it's one of those things that you really don't realize how
- 2:29many people get cancer until you're part of that, that group,
- 2:33right? How many people have you known
- 2:35that that's what you had? Cancer?
- 2:38Seven people. A handful.
- 2:40A handful, right? With me, it's a lot more than
- 2:44that. I had a friend of mine who had
- 2:45testicular cancer and he's he passed in.
- 2:48He's good now and then every time I see him, I always ask him
- 2:51how he's doing. He says he's good.
- 2:53So yeah, you know, you never know what's going on with it.
- 2:56So we support Cancer October and if you wear pink on Wednesdays,
- 3:01you are a He's yawning. If you wear pink on Wednesdays,
- 3:06you are. AI don't know.
- 3:09Mean girl wear pink on Wednesdays I've.
- 3:12Never seen the movie. I know we were talking about
- 3:16this last week. One Wednesday, I was on the
- 3:20playground and I was wearing my pink jersey and someone walks by
- 3:23and says, oh, I didn't know you were a mean girl.
- 3:25I said, I'm not. I'm supporting cancer.
- 3:27I made her feel so bad, so bad. But yeah, so it's one of those
- 3:32things that get checked early for any cancer, anything.
- 3:37You see, we had his godfather passed away from stomach cancer,
- 3:42didn't even know anything was going on.
- 3:43And he, you know, it just happened that fast.
- 3:47So please, if you have some symptoms that are not normal, go
- 3:50get checked. We would really appreciate that.
- 3:52OK, but let's get back to the show today.
- 3:56Before we begin also, I want to mention this is our show.
- 3:59We are not experts. We are father and son.
- 4:03We talk about whatever comes to mind and we try to stay on focus
- 4:06on the show. But sometimes we get
- 4:08sidetracked, like one time we talked about nuclear bombs
- 4:11because we live close to refinery and we're if it
- 4:14explodes the power of nuclear bomb, etcetera, etcetera.
- 4:17So we get sidetracked a lot, but we're not experts.
- 4:19And because we are father and son, sometimes we get a little
- 4:23heated in our conversations and adult language might slip out.
- 4:26We apologize for that in advance.
- 4:28Right. And I want to say I keep getting
- 4:30planned on TikTok because I don't have the AI content
- 4:34overlay. You don't, huh?
- 4:38I don't. That's why.
- 4:40That is why I just realized that.
- 4:44I just realized we don't have that.
- 4:48Label. Label.
- 4:50Wow, that solves our issues. That's well, maybe right.
- 4:55I'll tell you what in the first break, we'll go ahead and add
- 4:57that in there so only we can get get allowed to go out live.
- 5:01But I say let's go ahead and get the show started and ignite
- 5:04today's fuse. Welcome to Hot Takes with the
- 5:16Murph Man. Today we are talking about
- 5:19finding work life balance. How to avoid burnout in an
- 5:23always on culture. In a world that glorifies
- 5:27hustle, balance is a radical act.
- 5:30This episode helps you protect your energy, set boundaries, and
- 5:33build a life that includes both ambition and peace.
- 5:38The fuse is lit Murph man, take the mic all.
- 5:41Right, we are back. So episode 57, Finding work life
- 5:45balance, How to avoid burnout. We are always on, we're always
- 5:51doing something and that's why it's hard to turn it off before
- 5:56you get home. You turn the TV on or you don't
- 5:58and that was it. You didn't have people bothering
- 6:00you on social media, all your friends texting you, chatting
- 6:03with you, sending you stupid memes or GIFs or whatever.
- 6:08We could unplug a lot easier now.
- 6:11We can't. OK.
- 6:14You know, in a world that glorifies hustle, balance is a
- 6:16radical act because people don't balance their life.
- 6:19And you can get burned out, you know?
- 6:21And it doesn't have to be just work.
- 6:23It's work life balance, school life balance, family and life
- 6:28balance, you know? What do you think about couples
- 6:31going out on nights separately? Lie away from each other.
- 6:37Yeah, Good that that's healthy because you keep your friends
- 6:42and he, you know, here he gets to keep his friends.
- 6:46OK. Why is that important?
- 6:47Well, sometimes you don't like their friends.
- 6:51Yeah, that's the truth, right? Sometimes you don't like their
- 6:53friends, so you don't want to hang out with them.
- 6:55But at the same time, we don't want to make your spouse not
- 7:04hang out with the people that they want to hang around with.
- 7:07So you want to be real careful with that.
- 7:09Because I'm telling you, I've been married 26 years, two
- 7:13different women. The first wife, I wish I would
- 7:16have done that more. I wish she would have done that
- 7:18more. And she didn't.
- 7:22So it's one of those things that I wonder if it would have
- 7:27changed with the first wife. My second wife, we did that.
- 7:30She'd go with her friends. I go with my friends.
- 7:32I never, I always invited her to come out with me.
- 7:34But when she went out with her friends, I I didn't want to go.
- 7:38I loved her friends, you know that I told her.
- 7:40But this is your time with your friends.
- 7:43And I'll go out with my friends whenever I go out.
- 7:45But it's OK if you hang out with me.
- 7:47I don't really mind, you know? So learning how to balance that
- 7:53work life is so important. Connor, you, you have no idea.
- 7:58You know, at the same time, look at it the other way.
- 8:01If you hang around too much with your friends, doing too much
- 8:05partying, socializing, you lose focus on school.
- 8:09So that's where the balance comes in.
- 8:11It has to be both ways, OK? We have to be both ways.
- 8:15And we have to be able to understand what life requires of
- 8:20us. And that's what I hope to teach
- 8:22everyone today. So I'll tell you what.
- 8:25Let's get to today's burning question, and let's find out how
- 8:28much Connor knows about effective ways of avoid burnout.
- 8:41Today's burning question is what is the most effective way to
- 8:45avoid burnout? A Taking a vacation.
- 8:49B working longer hours to finish a project.
- 8:53C Setting and communicating clear boundaries.
- 8:57D Multitasking To get more done. Let's go to the Murph Man for
- 9:01today's Flashpoint. All right, so we have a vacation
- 9:08working longer setting and communicating, clear boundaries
- 9:11and multitasking. What do you think it is, Connor?
- 9:14I think it's C setting and communicating boundaries.
- 9:18Very good. Because one of those things that
- 9:21you have to do is set those boundaries because otherwise
- 9:26you're going to let work take over your life.
- 9:28And I will tell you when I was a counselor, that was the thing
- 9:32that that would happen to me all the time is I had work to do and
- 9:39then I always took a priority because I was a counselor and
- 9:43kids lives matter to me. But 7:00 was my cut off, you
- 9:51know, so, but I'd come home 6:00, maybe deal with any
- 9:55emergencies or whatever. If it was an emergency at night,
- 9:58I, I'd take care of it every now and then.
- 10:00I had one, but it wasn't anything major, you know.
- 10:03But after your mom passed away, I, I told you the story.
- 10:06I was working a lot of hours trying to make up my numbers
- 10:10because I spent a lot of time with her in the hospital.
- 10:12And it was one day I was coming back from Fabian's 8 at night.
- 10:16You were daycare and I just said his mom just died.
- 10:22Why the hell is he in the daycare?
- 10:24He needs to be with me. So went to my boss and said I
- 10:28can't do this anymore and I need to leave.
- 10:30And they let me go, you know, so that's what I loved, you know,
- 10:36they let me leave and it, it affected our life in a lot of
- 10:41ways, but my family life was more important to me at the
- 10:44time. And, and it has always been my
- 10:46priority and everything that I do, including this podcast, This
- 10:50is why I started it. I don't know, they love giving
- 10:52this advice. And after he took all my advice
- 10:58and got to where he's at, I said, OK, let's share this with
- 11:00other people. So that's what we've been doing.
- 11:03But let's move on. And let's talk about today's hot
- 11:07take. Yeah, all.
- 11:09Right, let's let's hear what I have to say about this.
- 11:20Today's hot take is this work life balance is a myth created
- 11:24by managers to shift responsibility.
- 11:27The goal is not balance, it's integration.
- 11:30You have to actively build boundaries and systems that
- 11:33protect your energy because your employer will always happily
- 11:38take 100% of the time you offer. Murph, man, it's your turn to
- 11:43fan the flames. All right, so the last sentence
- 11:48in this phrase, OK, says you have to actively build
- 11:53boundaries and systems that protect your energy because your
- 11:55employer will always take 100% of your time that you offer.
- 12:01And if you don't set, if you don't have the the boundary set
- 12:07with your boss, you're not going to be able to work.
- 12:09So that's one of those things that you got to be very careful
- 12:12and understand that as you go forward, setting those clear
- 12:18boundaries are very important. You know, can you do that in
- 12:22your job interview, Connor? Can you say, hey, you know, I
- 12:24can't work past five. Get used to it.
- 12:29Yeah. You can I.
- 12:31Mean you could. Will it be good?
- 12:33Probably not. OK, true, you can do anything
- 12:36you want. It's a free country, right?
- 12:40But you're going to have consequences for your actions.
- 12:45Yeah, I mean, it's not bad if you tell them your availability.
- 12:49Well, right when you when you're discussing a job interview, you
- 12:57want to tell them, OK, here is what I'm I'm able to do and not
- 13:02able to do. And you want to be realistic
- 13:06with them. You want to be truthful with
- 13:08them. You want to be able to, to find
- 13:12out what their, their schedules are because like for example, if
- 13:18it says work from 7:00 to 3:00, that's where my schedule is
- 13:22right now. Seven to three, OK.
- 13:26And I go in at 7, sometimes a little bit early, right?
- 13:31That is early. Oh yeah, but I'm like 5-5
- 13:34minutes early if I'm if I'm up and I'm ready, I just and I work
- 13:37at home. So I just walk over to the desk
- 13:39right Or get a drink then go to the desk.
- 13:41But at 3:00 I'm out. They don't ask me to stay after
- 13:443 o'clock. That's their.
- 13:46They gave me the expectation. You're off at 3.
- 13:49Now. I'm in clubs and I'm in.
- 13:51I do things like we have a movie night that we play for National
- 13:54Honor Society. We do different kinds of
- 14:00activities where we share with the students and all that stuff.
- 14:02So it's one of those things that you don't really realize it, but
- 14:07you have to stay late sometimes. And we all understand that,
- 14:10right? Yeah, but when you can't stay
- 14:15late, like, for example, when I was counseling a kid and they
- 14:19tell me they were suicidal and I had to go to the hospital with
- 14:20them, what are we going to do? You know what I mean?
- 14:25Yeah. So sometimes you're going to end
- 14:27up staying late, and it's not easy, but it is what we do, you
- 14:33know? But staying those clear
- 14:35boundaries, saying, OK, so I understand occasionally I have
- 14:40to work past three. I I get that.
- 14:43How often do you, excuse me? How often do you expect that to
- 14:51happen? And they say, oh, oh, it's very,
- 14:54very rare. OK.
- 14:55And what happens in the first two weeks?
- 14:57I have to say three times I'd go to my boss and be like, when you
- 15:00interviewed me, you told me it was going to be rare.
- 15:03But now it's been 3 out of 10 already.
- 15:05That's 30%. That's a lot.
- 15:08You know, that's the same, that boundary.
- 15:10And she might say, you know what?
- 15:12Why are you staying late? What are you doing that you
- 15:15can't manage your time inside work?
- 15:16And she starts getting into managing stuff.
- 15:18But doing that thing together and working together and seeing
- 15:23those boundaries really sets the setup for everything.
- 15:27So, you know, I, I think it's important to, to look at that
- 15:32and understand this is what we have going on.
- 15:36And I hope we're able to communicate our concerns.
- 15:43OK, so I'll tell you what I'm going to communicate that we
- 15:46need a break. OK, so.
- 15:49We're going to take a break and when we come back, we're going
- 15:50to talk about those terms that we're going to discuss on
- 15:53today's show. So we'll be right back.
- 15:58It's time for a break. Hot takes with the Murph man.
- 16:01We'll be right back. The station where our veterans
- 16:09voices are heard. MBR talk.
- 16:13It's on the web at MB radio dot web.
- 16:18According to the VA Suicide Data report, an average of 22
- 16:22veterans die by suicide every single day.
- 16:25This figure is a sobering reality and a crisis that
- 16:28demands our immediate attention and compassion.
- 16:31We must recognize and address the fact that every 24 hours, 22
- 16:35veterans are losing their lives to suicide.
- 16:39The war doesn't always end when our veterans come home.
- 16:41The invisible wounds they carry, wounds that are real and heavy,
- 16:45require continuous support. No veteran should have to carry
- 16:49this burden alone. Many veterans experience stress
- 16:52and disconnection as they navigate life after service.
- 16:56But there is hope, there is help, and you are not alone in
- 16:59this fight. There's a vibrant community
- 17:01ready to support you, offering friendship, understanding and
- 17:05shared experiences. You served your country.
- 17:07Now let us serve you. Don't fight the toughest battle
- 17:10in silence. Your mission now is to reach
- 17:13out. Dial 988, then press 1.
- 17:17Text them at 838255. The Veterans Crisis Line is
- 17:23available 24/7. Every day we save lives.
- 17:27Your life is invaluable and your service is honored.
- 17:30Let's work together to make 22 Zero again.
- 17:33No veteran should face their struggles alone.
- 17:36Together, we can ensure every veteran finds the support and
- 17:39hope they deserve. He could say, oh, but he still
- 17:45feels off season out on the TV about a dog batting sick.
- 17:52This is a man's best friend. Whoa.
- 17:57So he goes one day and he picks it up.
- 18:01Never thought a dog could bring so much love
- 19:03Before we get back to the show, we pause for something that
- 19:06matters to me deeply. I was inspired by Ryan Spencer's
- 19:10song Make 22 Zero. Again, I'd like to remind you
- 19:15that help is always available 24/7 365.
- 19:19If you ever feel you need support or are in crisis, call
- 19:23988 and press one or text 838255.
- 19:27There will always be someone ready to listen.
- 19:29Remember, you are not alone. All right, we are back.
- 19:35So I hope everyone is took a real quick break, got some
- 19:38drinks once the restaurant did what you had to do.
- 19:41I hope it all worked out well for you.
- 19:43You know we did, yeah. So one of those things that we
- 19:48did was we were talking about the different times I've been
- 19:56burned out because the Connor asked me like, Hey, so when have
- 19:59you been burned out? And I'm like, well, that, that
- 20:01all that matters a lot because there's so much going on, you
- 20:06know, in life that I have those high stress jobs and I was
- 20:11always getting burnt out. So it it was always an issue for
- 20:15me forever and ever. I've always had an issue.
- 20:17I was in the army. You never need your schedule in
- 20:19the Army. You know you could.
- 20:21Everything could be good and all of a sudden you go out and then
- 20:25next thing you know, guess what? You are completely out and
- 20:31before you know it, you're done for the day.
- 20:33You know, sometimes they let you go early, but most of the time
- 20:36it's right on time because the Army does run on time, right?
- 20:39Yeah. So it's one of those things that
- 20:43you, you got to really think about what I put it.
- 20:54What do you consider a good balance, you know, because like
- 20:58I said, if you can't handle it, you're going to get burnt down.
- 21:01And we don't want that, do we? You know, So it's one of those
- 21:05things where we can't really do that.
- 21:08We hope that as as we move forward, OK, that we'll be able
- 21:17to balance it a lot better as we learn the job.
- 21:22You know, there's been some jobs that we have that totally just
- 21:28it's too much. It's too much.
- 21:31And you're like, damn, what did I do?
- 21:33You know, and you know, right away if it's too much, you know,
- 21:36to handle, don't you? Sometimes when you, well, when
- 21:39you take a class and you're like, oh man, I'm going to hate
- 21:42this class. I already know it based on what
- 21:43the syllabus says. Not even the syllabus is like
- 21:48the way the teacher acts. Honestly, yeah, that's true.
- 21:51Sometimes if you have a good boss and good staff, you can put
- 21:53up with more BS, yeah. Right, I I had to do that my
- 21:57junior year in history. Yeah, you know.
- 22:01Hated the teacher. I had my friends in there in a
- 22:03group so we did everything together.
- 22:05That's that's when they got me my meats on my history what not
- 22:13star test my. EOC.
- 22:18Yeah. EOC is end of course test for
- 22:20those of you that don't know, students have to take that in
- 22:21high school now so. And now there's something going
- 22:24on with school, they have to take like a bigger test or
- 22:27something instead of star test. No, they're, they're, they
- 22:31already started that because Texas is trying to get rid of
- 22:34the star test. So now they have more tests
- 22:38throughout the semester and they test what they've been learning.
- 22:40So it's it's a little different. It's not as much pressure as a
- 22:43star test, but it is as much pressure as a star test.
- 22:46Yeah, they're going to do instead of the star test, what I
- 22:49saw that they were just going to do like a bigger PSAT and TSI
- 22:58testing. Well P the PSATSATACT and TSA 2
- 23:04are all tests you take for college.
- 23:08You you suffice test by subject with the new testing.
- 23:13The star test tests you by subject also.
- 23:16So it's going to be different than the star test, but it's
- 23:19still similar to that in that aspect.
- 23:20It's not going to be all subjects at once, you know, But
- 23:27yeah. So sometimes having the right Co
- 23:28workers makes a difference. Sometimes having the right
- 23:30teacher can make a difference. I had a student come in, I'm
- 23:34covering a class right now for history actually.
- 23:35And I asked him to come in to see me and we were talking and
- 23:39he had to take a third test. I had to reteach him everything
- 23:41and you know, like I told him, I don't know what your teacher
- 23:45teaches you. What I do know is she uses these
- 23:48notes that you have access to. So let's look at those notes and
- 23:51we looked in those together and then he took the test and he
- 23:55passed it with a 96, right. But the system took the other
- 24:02two tests and averaged it in. So give him less than a 90
- 24:05because you have to have a 90 to pass In our school.
- 24:06That's what that's what's considered passing is 90.
- 24:08It's a very high expectations. So he sends me an e-mail and
- 24:12he's like, yo bro, check it. And then that was a subject
- 24:20line. He's like, yo, I, I passed the
- 24:22test. I thought now I can't, you know,
- 24:24I was like, oh, I told him you're good.
- 24:26You know, I fixed the grade for him.
- 24:28But I just thought it was funny. He was like, yo bro, you know,
- 24:35he had just made me that day. I don't know if he said that
- 24:39with everybody or he felt comfortable with me, probably
- 24:43both. You know, he doesn't know how to
- 24:45or he had no social skills. Yeah, right.
- 24:47That, that that's one thing teachers have to really deal
- 24:49with at school right now is that we have to deal with all those
- 24:53students who do not do their do their, what's it called, their
- 25:02job. Because you have all these
- 25:03students doing other stupid stuff.
- 25:05So yeah, it's it's it's not a fun thing, right?
- 25:11But I'll tell you what, let's talk about some of those terms
- 25:13in our statement called laying down the coals, and we'll
- 25:16discuss what we're going to be talking about today so you can
- 25:18get some more information and definitions of what we're
- 25:21talking about. Before we dig in, let's clarify
- 25:34some of the key terms we'll be using today while laying down
- 25:37the coals. Work life balance.
- 25:39The ability to manage work responsibilities while
- 25:42maintaining personal well-being. Boundary setting.
- 25:45Clearly defining what you will and won't accept in terms of
- 25:48time, energy and availability. Rest as productivity.
- 25:53Recognizing that rest isn't the opposite of work, it's what
- 25:56makes work sustainable. Now that the coals are laid,
- 25:59Murph man, let's discuss the foundation.
- 26:04Yes, let's discuss the foundation work life balance,
- 26:08boundary setting and rest is productivity.
- 26:10That's what we're going to be talking about today.
- 26:13Work life balance is the ability to manage work and
- 26:15responsibilities for maintaining personal well-being.
- 26:18Boundary setting, clearly defining what you will and won't
- 26:20accept in terms of time and energy and rest is productivity.
- 26:24Recognizing that rest isn't the opposite of work, it's what
- 26:28makes work sustainable. All right, you have to be able
- 26:32to work and do your life stuff. OK, A good example of that is
- 26:43washing dishes, right? You dirty dishes, if you don't
- 26:48wash them right afterwards and say I'll get them later, later,
- 26:52you're never going to get them. You're never going to get them.
- 26:54It's going to take, you're going to cook again the next day and
- 26:57be like, OK, I'll get them later.
- 26:59You know, and if you don't deal with it right then and there
- 27:02because you're always rushing, then that's something you have
- 27:04to really look at and understand that you really need to
- 27:07understand you have to do certain things on that day, you
- 27:13know, like a shower, right? I have to take a shower.
- 27:16OK, You know, I'll take a shower and go on and on and on, right?
- 27:20So the after that is when you're doing the work life balance is
- 27:25are you trying to do too much at once?
- 27:28And Connor, let me ask your opinion on this.
- 27:31Do I have a good work life balance in your opinion?
- 27:37No. Why not?
- 27:38All you do is work. All you do is work.
- 27:40All you do is work. Like give me an example of that.
- 27:43After school you go straight to the studio and you work on it
- 27:48till 10 in the afternoon. Most of the days you do it.
- 27:53Some days you're like you have an appointment to do or you're
- 27:59going out once in a while, but every time it's mostly you're at
- 28:04home after school, you do work. And I'll agree with you 99%.
- 28:0899%. 99% because I do that. I know I do that when I work
- 28:17from 7:00 to 3:00, right? Yeah, I'm doing the school job
- 28:21then I teach at the college. I have the grade papers there.
- 28:23So it takes an hour or two sometimes.
- 28:25And then I have to do stuff for the business that we're getting
- 28:27off the ground, doing contracts and all of that stuff, right,
- 28:29Getting it ready. And then at some point, I got to
- 28:32get the show ready for next week.
- 28:34I got to do all our clips. And you know, yeah, I'm doing
- 28:37too much. Yeah, but I need to do those
- 28:42things. But that's in a day.
- 28:45What you just described. You got to do that five times a
- 28:48day or five times a week. Sometimes I don't have to grade
- 28:53papers, sometimes I don't have to work on the contract,
- 28:55sometimes I don't have to work on the website.
- 28:58It's a it's a different task every day.
- 29:02So it's not, it's still work, right?
- 29:04For the studio, it's still work, but it's not the same thing day
- 29:08in, day out. I'm feeling contracts right now
- 29:11are what's taking my time. Yeah, I feel like you have done
- 29:13this though for the past week because.
- 29:15I'm trying to get the contract out because I haven't even
- 29:17tonight, so I want to be able to take in contract people.
- 29:22To people or to the venue? People, they want to hire me, I
- 29:27can tell them here's what we're going to.
- 29:28Do oh don't give them the whole packet at the event.
- 29:33Well, it's not the, there's different things and they have a
- 29:36contract that's different in the packet, the packets, I have a
- 29:38promotional packet to describe what I'm doing.
- 29:41I have a master agreement with the dance hall that they have to
- 29:44follow when they hire me. And then I have my individual
- 29:48contracts. That is that's where I can
- 29:49change things and say, OK, I'm not going to charge you this.
- 29:51I'll charge you this, I'll give you this discount or you want me
- 29:54to work on the holiday. Here's $75.00 fee.
- 29:56You have to pay extras or if it's a big event, 25% of the
- 30:00fee, whichever is greater, you know, and then I've, I've got it
- 30:05again, checked out with lawyers and I was on the phone to stay
- 30:07with lawyers. I had an accident and they
- 30:10didn't make claims. I have to work on that.
- 30:12So you see, life happens, you know, and there's times where I
- 30:17don't do anything like today, today's show.
- 30:20When did I work on it? Last night, last night, because
- 30:24I I had usually on my head a week or something.
- 30:27I've had, like he said, I've been doing this all week.
- 30:29This was a rough week for me. You know, I had to get my class
- 30:32started for next semester. I start Monday for Community
- 30:36College so I had to get my class ready for that.
- 30:39Why next week or next month? What'd you say?
- 30:43I start Monday. Yeah, why next week?
- 30:45I'm a mini Mr. in October. It's mid semester.
- 30:51Yeah. What did you just get done doing
- 30:52this week? Midterms.
- 30:56But you do. I thought mini master was just a
- 30:58month in December. No, there's that.
- 31:00No, there's a winter master, May master, which is here December,
- 31:03January and then and then May, May and June before the classes
- 31:08start in June. Those are May measures.
- 31:11There's mini measures that are 10 weeks, 8 weeks, 5 weeks that
- 31:16are different for every semester.
- 31:19I thought I always started in December for the winter and
- 31:22then. No, and I, I, I'd have too much
- 31:26to cover. You know, I, I have some
- 31:27teachers say we don't cover every chapter in the book.
- 31:30I do because it's general psychology or introduction
- 31:33psychology, right? There's a lot of people know it.
- 31:36And the 16 chapters are basically the chapters you can
- 31:41specialize in if you want to learn more about it.
- 31:43So like, for example, when I was in my master's program, every
- 31:47class you took, every chapter in general psychology was a class I
- 31:51took in my master's program. Like I studied the brain one
- 31:57time, the biology of the brain, but that was a whole semester
- 32:00course on the brain, right? And the brain's amazing.
- 32:08It's the stuff it does. It's just amazing.
- 32:09I know, but it's a pain. It is.
- 32:13Did you make a little play DoH project also?
- 32:15No, no, I didn't do that. But I will tell you what, many,
- 32:20many years later, that was in 1999, 16 years later, I'm, well,
- 32:2915 years later, I'm dealing with your mom having brain cancer.
- 32:32And she had to have surgery to remove some tumors, right?
- 32:34And she had to have radiology to remove some tumors.
- 32:37And as I was walking up to her, I waved at her and she waved
- 32:41back. And then I walked up to her and
- 32:44I said, so can you just move your hands and feet real quick?
- 32:47She says, yeah, I'm, I'm good. And she talked to me.
- 32:53So I tested her sight, her sound, because she was able to
- 32:57hear me, her feeling was able to move.
- 33:00I didn't taste her touch, you know, I mean, but then I held
- 33:03her hand and she held me back. I didn't go up to her and go,
- 33:06I'm going to hold your hand now. I just grabbed her hand and she
- 33:07squeezed. So I tested her five senses.
- 33:11And the nurse was standing there was like, you just do an
- 33:14assessment on her. I said, yeah, I did.
- 33:17You know, I had to know, you know, and of course the doctor
- 33:21would have told me if there was a problem, I hope.
- 33:23But with brain surgery, you never know.
- 33:25It swells and actually, and that's what end up causing her
- 33:28to pass away. It was the infection she got
- 33:30during the surgery and whatever, whatever.
- 33:32But we did do the the and every class is a class.
- 33:39So I believe you have to cover all 16 classes in general
- 33:41psychology because if you don't then someone wants to become a
- 33:44counselor that that one chapter you skip might be the one that
- 33:49would be best in. So intro to psychology, you
- 33:56talked about every class that has to do with psychology and
- 34:01one book. Yeah, you didn't do anything
- 34:06else. Your whole course was just that
- 34:09book. Yeah, I mean, my assignments and
- 34:13everything, they have to go somewhere else and look for
- 34:14information and everything. But yeah, it's just that one,
- 34:18the 16 courses. Why do you seem so confused?
- 34:23The audio cut out. It did, right?
- 34:27Yeah. We're we're back, so it doesn't
- 34:28matter. Hopefully they hear you.
- 34:32Yeah, they are. Let me take sounds over here
- 34:35real quick. And as we're talking here, we
- 34:42have yes it sound to drop out. It was weird, but so I covered
- 34:49all the chapters because that's the basis for everything, right?
- 34:54Yeah. And you need to be able to
- 34:57understand all the different chapters.
- 34:59So like when you took intro psych or engineering, you learn
- 35:02about different kinds of engineering, right?
- 35:08No, no. No, just basic concepts.
- 35:12OK. Like binary?
- 35:13When you took interest in computer science, you learn
- 35:17about networking, they learned about coding and thing.
- 35:23Whereas CCTE or like high school or college school, high school.
- 35:27Intro class, Yeah. So CCTE, OK, now, now you're in
- 35:30college and you're taking intro classes.
- 35:32What are you learning there? The same, honestly.
- 35:37Well, no, I lie. What is the same but?
- 35:39No, I lie. CCTE was so different because I
- 35:44was hardware and learning about computers.
- 35:47This is learning mostly about coding, like programming.
- 35:53And let me think, yeah, programming, we're actually
- 36:00doing more software than I did ever, right?
- 36:05We're just crazy. That's what computer science is,
- 36:08all coding. Well, but all the other topics
- 36:12that I did freshman year. Have you ever seen the Tik Toks
- 36:17where they talk about if the code works, don't touch it?
- 36:20Yeah, no, the train that goes off the track and comes back and
- 36:24gets on the track again. Yeah.
- 36:26You know, yeah. Sometimes there's no solution.
- 36:29You don't know what it is. It's just, you know, that's what
- 36:31makes coding so difficult, because 1 little letter
- 36:33difference can change the whole the whole meaning of the line.
- 36:39Now you tell it check out line 19 and you forget the one.
- 36:43I've never seen that. No one has ever talked about
- 36:47going to a starting line. I don't.
- 36:49I don't know where you I've never seen that.
- 36:52None of my teachers have talked about it yet.
- 36:54I don't know if I'm going to, but I've never.
- 36:58OK, let's see here. No, what you're going to search
- 37:01for is coding in the Commodore 64.
- 37:09This is an old computer, one of the first laptops that made it
- 37:11out. What is it, Commodore?
- 37:14What? Yeah, just Commodore and see if
- 37:16that's. And the Commodore 64 was built
- 37:20OK. And it's called BASIC and it it
- 37:25gave you all the commands here. This is in.
- 37:27List, Yeah, OK. Line 10.
- 37:30Line 30. See.
- 37:34OK. But well, if, if for example,
- 37:37there it says 147, right? If I didn't have 147, I only put
- 37:4247, that one wouldn't show up because literally it says print
- 37:47and then it says print, hello, right?
- 37:50And that's it. Those are lines, those lines of
- 37:56code. That's how it all started,
- 37:57Connor. Well, I know that, Sean, but
- 37:59you're saying, yeah, if you do like this on line 10, you go to
- 38:04line 16. Yeah, that doesn't show it
- 38:07there. Do a formula with go to line.
- 38:11So I was saying, you know, I, I learned computers when they
- 38:14first started and it's a basic formula.
- 38:20Basic is a language and right there, that code right there, it
- 38:27tells it to print hello and then go to 10, which is the first
- 38:31line. And what is happening, Connor,
- 38:33is that writes the word hello all over your screen, dude.
- 38:36Well, when the computer first started, you couldn't do a lot.
- 38:40We're just happy to like, I'd go in there and type in my
- 38:41girlfriend's name and put it on the computer and walk away and
- 38:44then show it to her, you know? Yeah, it's just.
- 38:47But that's the go to I was talking.
- 38:49About that, OK, so it's basically?
- 38:52Basic. It's a loop.
- 38:56OK, that makes sense. Well, it is a loop, but you can
- 39:00also program it to do a lot more.
- 39:02You that's a do while loop or just a while loop or if else.
- 39:09If else, yeah, like if then. Like if this you know print that
- 39:17else you print that else like else if print that.
- 39:21Yeah, the if, then stuff. If this is true, then you write
- 39:25this. If this is true, you say this.
- 39:27Yeah, but that's so it's basic. And that's what I've been
- 39:30telling him, you know? Yeah, my eyes, my allergies.
- 39:36And you want to know how to learn about all the different
- 39:37languages that were in computer at the time?
- 39:40How? Tron the game because all their
- 39:46levels were different languages until you got to user, which is,
- 39:54you know, the admin level. Really.
- 39:55Yeah, I was actually like, I could have entered the World
- 39:59Championship if if I knew how to get to it for Tron.
- 40:02I was really, really good at Tron.
- 40:04Like, amazingly good. I thought Tron was just the
- 40:08bikes. No, that's one, though.
- 40:11There's actually 4 four types of spiders.
- 40:14Then there's the cone, there's the bikes and the tanks.
- 40:16You know the tanks, the red ones that are right?
- 40:21Yeah. So the bikes they call tanks, I
- 40:23don't know what they're called like.
- 40:25Because there's actual tanks. Yeah, they look like tanks in my
- 40:28book. You know, I don't know if it was
- 40:31actually tanks or not. All I know is there's some games
- 40:33you had to like, play and kill to get to the to get safe.
- 40:37And there are some that you couldn't even bother killing go
- 40:40so fat you had to just dive into the spot.
- 40:42If you tried shooting 1, you died.
- 40:46God. And then the game Dragons Lair,
- 40:51we talked about something flashes, you have to move to it,
- 40:54you know, get code and there's we didn't have cheat codes back
- 40:58then. We had to learn it quarter by
- 41:00quarter. Well, there's still no cheat
- 41:02code for that game. What I could think of?
- 41:06Well, there's steps you can actually take.
- 41:07It'll tell you splice, jump down, go to The Cave, go here,
- 41:13you know it tells you. But Speaking of games, one of my
- 41:16favorite games is Street Fighter.
- 41:20Yeah, I still like mortal combat better, but yeah.
- 41:22I do too, but Street Fighter to me is the OG stuff and we saw
- 41:29the movie last night. So what do you think of the
- 41:31movie? 9 out of 10. 9 out of 10, yeah,
- 41:36I think it was a really good movie.
- 41:38And all the characters, the actors playing the characters.
- 41:43They did good, yeah. Well, but it was funny because
- 41:45like there was 1. I mean, I can, I can say their
- 41:48names. They they already know, right?
- 41:49It's not going to ruin the movie if I say their names.
- 41:54You see the actors name. Yeah, well.
- 41:57They know the actors names. But Guile was played by Cody
- 42:00Rhodes, the wrestler. And as soon as he came on
- 42:02screen, I'm like, Oh my God, that's Cody Rhodes.
- 42:04I, you know, I recognized him, right?
- 42:07And then Blasco was Mamoa. Jason Mamoa and I that that
- 42:13character is funny. It's just just Momo does a good
- 42:17job the way he presents the character.
- 42:19But the evil guy we both were like he looks familiar but we
- 42:21can't figure it out. The evil guy.
- 42:25Yeah, not not the one running the tournament, the bad energy
- 42:31guy. Bad energy guy.
- 42:34Oh yeah. He looked familiar and we didn't
- 42:37confirm till very end it was Roman Reigns.
- 42:40You shouldn't have stopped. That why?
- 42:42Again, we didn't know it till the end.
- 42:47Well, no, he looked familiar. We just couldn't play.
- 42:49Yeah, I'm not giving away anything from the movie.
- 42:51Even then you still couldn't tell it was just that good of
- 42:55CGI. Well, yeah, that.
- 42:57Well, yeah, but he still look familiar.
- 42:59Yeah. But you know, it's a good movie.
- 43:02It is a good movie. And the actors did a good job, I
- 43:04think. They did, yeah.
- 43:07You know, but old games, and there's actually a TikTok I'll
- 43:12send you, there's a computer that took the steps the computer
- 43:19was taking and map them out. So like, for example, the
- 43:24computer would say in this 4th of a frame, it did this move
- 43:30this many centimeters away, this many millimeters, you know,
- 43:33whatever the case was. And it would actually test its
- 43:35theory by playing the other character against it.
- 43:39Like, for example, there's some games you can play.
- 43:41And I had a, I've had a friend who actually will do this
- 43:44nationally. He was a gamer and he says, you
- 43:48know, when you're watching the game, you can see the split
- 43:51second that you have to hit the button.
- 43:53If you go before or after, you'd lose.
- 43:56So this computer program actually programmed out Street
- 43:59Fighter and it said, OK, he does this when he does this.
- 44:03And like, for example, there's one where Vega goes on the fence
- 44:06and Rio is fighting the character in the background, an
- 44:12MPC. You can't see Vega.
- 44:15And the computer got confused by what it was looking at.
- 44:18So eventually it said, OK, that that's what I've learned, and it
- 44:22learned how to build all the characters.
- 44:25So it's a really cool way they programmed the system.
- 44:28It took 40 hours of gameplay to just figure out every person's
- 44:33move, and very specifically by pixels in some cases.
- 44:39So when you have people that can finish the game, they're able to
- 44:43figure that out on their own without computers.
- 44:45It's pretty cool, huh? Well, yeah, yeah.
- 44:48Like for example, if you're too far away, this move won't work.
- 44:52You can do it, it's not going to do anything.
- 44:54If you're too close, it's good, not going to work.
- 44:57You have to be the right pixel away for things to work.
- 45:01Isn't that crazy? So anyway, that's my story about
- 45:07high school gaming. OK.
- 45:10Yeah, so I get a little sidetracked there.
- 45:12Sorry. I told you at the beginning of
- 45:13the show, we get sidetracked about to what?
- 45:15This up here in my story just here from the story from the
- 45:17fire. In today's Story from the Fire,
- 45:29after burning out in her first job, Priya started blocking off
- 45:32no work hours, taking real lunch breaks and saying no to weekend
- 45:37emails. Her performance improved and so
- 45:40did her happiness. She learned that balance is not
- 45:43a luxury, it's a life skill. That was a story from the fire,
- 45:48Murph. Man, are you feeling the heat?
- 45:51Yeah, so Priya started blacking off.
- 45:52No work hours. It's funny because let's see,
- 46:00for my job, I do consulting also and I have my calendar set up
- 46:05where you can come in, you can book.
- 46:07I want to make a meeting with me, right?
- 46:10I want a consulting appointment. I want to discuss trivia.
- 46:14It has different times for different things and charges
- 46:16different things for. Some of them are chargeable,
- 46:18some of them are free. But I put down nothing before 3,
- 46:24right? Why?
- 46:24Because I'm at the other job, nothing on Monday the 25th at
- 46:28this time because I have an appointment.
- 46:30So you can also black out every Friday afternoon.
- 46:34How often do I have something scheduled on Fridays?
- 46:37Not that much. That's usually my Family Day.
- 46:43Yeah. That's the day I'll do things
- 46:45with you if you have plans or not, whatever.
- 46:48That and Sunday. And Sunday, you know, that's the
- 46:51day of rest. Yeah, I would think the main
- 46:58days we do hang out is Friday and Sunday and then if I don't
- 47:03have plans, Saturdays. Right.
- 47:06Well, you know, we hang out a lot, but Friday nights is a day
- 47:11that I don't, I try not to schedule anything now.
- 47:14Right now I'm going to massage therapy for my back and I I take
- 47:18care of that and then I go out with him, right?
- 47:23Yeah. So that's the only thing that.
- 47:24Take him over there and then, yeah.
- 47:26Yeah, he goes and does some stuff, some side hustles and
- 47:28then comes back, you know, so, but I, I block out time.
- 47:33That's something I do. You don't really think about it.
- 47:35But yeah, Friday afternoons is family time.
- 47:37But I really try not to book anything on Fridays.
- 47:39Now if I'm offered the the trivia at the VFW, you know hang
- 47:45out with you and make 150 bucks. Sorry bro.
- 47:51Yeah, I'm, I'm making the money, bro.
- 47:53Yeah, we'll hang out another day.
- 47:55Well, yeah, that's you took the words right out of my mouth.
- 47:59If you can book that day, I'll just, we'll schedule a different
- 48:02day. Wednesdays.
- 48:03I have trivia with military broadcast radio.
- 48:06Tuesdays you go out to eat, sometimes Tuesday or Thursday.
- 48:09Tuesday is my date night. Yeah, you know, not I was with
- 48:13the same person. Sometimes when I'm dating
- 48:15someone for a while, it'll be, you know, Tuesday.
- 48:16But if I meet someone that can't do Tuesdays, I move it to a
- 48:19different day, you know, and we just it rotates.
- 48:20But right now it's Tuesday. So there's there's a lot to look
- 48:25at there. OK.
- 48:27And right now, if you're watching us on NPR talk, Roku,
- 48:31who's who's come on because we have it on this page.
- 48:35And I, we just started talking and I didn't get a chance to
- 48:36look at that. We got a beaker, we got Rita and
- 48:42regard Cassie. Well, welcome, Rita and Cassie.
- 48:45And of course, Beaker is always there.
- 48:47I love Beaker, right? They love duck the duck.
- 48:53Yes, the man behind the duck too.
- 48:57He's always telling me just back the duck up.
- 49:00And he don't give a duck. God, actually, he does give away
- 49:04a duck. That's part of his prizes.
- 49:06He'd do really print stuff now, so.
- 49:09You should make a plus you. But he makes is himself on his
- 49:14printer. But you should make it plushy as
- 49:17in. You have to have a factory to
- 49:19cut all the pieces and sew them together and everything.
- 49:21Kind of. OK, not make them as in partner
- 49:24with the plushy company plushy? That that is something that we
- 49:29can do. If that's something he wants to
- 49:32do, I should say he can do that. But yeah, making a plushy of the
- 49:35ducks that actually, yeah, obviously if you hear that.
- 49:40Obviously not a whole. Make your own, as in build a
- 49:44workshop. Well, you know.
- 49:48It's not what I meant. Well, you know, I'm getting a
- 49:50laser engraved for all my merch. Yeah, Yeah.
- 49:53And if I go somewhere I. Your merch is key chains.
- 49:58It's coffee mugs. It's stuff printed onto other
- 50:03stuff. Right, but if I can learn how to
- 50:04use it real well and I can actually print something on on
- 50:06demand, like you can come up to me at one of my shows and ask me
- 50:09to print that for you. Yeah.
- 50:12So boom, done. You know what I mean?
- 50:14Or you can make an order with me or whatever.
- 50:17It's it's I have portable, I have non portable.
- 50:20I have all this stuff that I'm buying, you know, and that's
- 50:23actually, you know, a good time to change, right.
- 50:26We were talking about this last night.
- 50:28But anyway, yeah, blushes of the ducks would be actually, that's
- 50:31a really good idea. So H, if you hear that plushies
- 50:36of the ducks, I think it's something that we need to have,
- 50:38right? Yeah, I would say that's a good
- 50:41thing. You would say that's a good
- 50:43thing. I would too.
- 50:46I would too. I would like to see that
- 50:48actually. So I'll tell you what things I'd
- 50:51like to see also is those steps we can take to take action and
- 50:58make the work like life balance easier for everybody.
- 51:01We're going to talk about that in our heat map.
- 51:12The heat map will show you where to focus your efforts for the
- 51:14most impact. Set clear work hours and stick
- 51:18to them. Don't answer emails or Slack
- 51:20messages outside of these hours. Use calendar blocks for meals,
- 51:23breaks and personal time. Treat these like non negotiable
- 51:26appointments. Communicate boundaries with your
- 51:29team or manager. Let them know when you're
- 51:31offline and unavailable. The map is drawn back to Murph
- 51:35Man for the next segment. All right, So the heat map, I
- 51:41said clear work hours and stick to them.
- 51:44Stick to them is important OK don't answer emails or messages
- 51:52outside of these hours. Now I will tell you something
- 51:55when you have a job that's texting you after hours you have
- 52:02to set that boundary as fast as you can because if you don't
- 52:06what is happening is that boss or Co worker is going to keep
- 52:11calling you after hours. Now there was one Co worker that
- 52:14called me one time and you know, she calls me and for you know,
- 52:20she never calls me, ever calls me.
- 52:22And one day she called me and I'm like oh what's wrong?
- 52:24And she says I need your help. And I was the only one that
- 52:32could do that. Now I'm going to share another
- 52:34story with you. We were at a costume party for
- 52:37Halloween one year. I was dressed as Frankenfurter,
- 52:43the transvestite, the guy in the camisole, the black Speedos and
- 52:49that high stockings. Frankfurter.
- 52:51Frankfurter from Rocky Horror. You don't know?
- 52:55Hold on, go ahead and type it in, Connor Frankenfurter.
- 53:00Who was the actor? What even know how to spell?
- 53:05OK. Yeah, the second one.
- 53:10OK, yeah, I told you we'd know who he was.
- 53:14You you could have just said his name, the actor's name.
- 53:21But I was like, I didn't dress as the actor, I dress as his
- 53:24character. I don't know.
- 53:25I've never seen the movie. Anyway, I've seen it.
- 53:28I saw like the beginning of it. It wasn't my thing.
- 53:31Yeah, I get it. But anyway, we were at a costume
- 53:36party and this was a night that I told my boss everyone at work,
- 53:40don't bother me, don't bother me, right?
- 53:45I'm having a party. I'm going to be drinking, don't
- 53:47bother me. And the shelter calls me and she
- 53:52says I'm sorry to bother you. Now why did I answer?
- 53:55That's who I am. OK, can I say no?
- 53:57Yeah, I can say no. But she literally called the
- 54:02person on call. They didn't answer.
- 54:05She called the boss, she didn't answer.
- 54:07She called every other Co worker.
- 54:09They all ignored her, right? I answered and she's like, we
- 54:14need to go pick up the kid who ran away.
- 54:15He's at the fire station, whatever.
- 54:19And I said, I am literally dressed in lingerie right now.
- 54:23I have makeup on my face. You know, I was like, hold on.
- 54:30So I quickly, I had, I always have clothes that I can put over
- 54:36if I need to. So I put on my sweatpants and my
- 54:39sweatshirt over this and when to go pick up the kid, you know, I
- 54:42have wet wipes. I'm wiping the face, my face
- 54:44off. Because as soon as the custom
- 54:45party's over, we get in the car and we're driving away.
- 54:47We're wiping our faces with makeup off.
- 54:49I go pick up the kid. I come back and they're laughing
- 54:52and they're like, so where's this lingerie?
- 54:53And I said right here. And I picked up my shirt and I
- 54:55dropped my pants. I made them see that, you know,
- 55:01because yeah, you ruined my party, you know?
- 55:05But I said no Connor and been totally OK with it.
- 55:09Well, no, because if they call you then something happened.
- 55:13Right, I was the last resort. Mommy, you were asked to be the
- 55:18last resort. Yeah.
- 55:19Yeah, you know, so. Not even that, you just said
- 55:21don't. Don't bother me.
- 55:22Yeah, don't bother me. OK.
- 55:24Imagine if I had been drunk. I'd be like, I can't do this.
- 55:26I can't go pick a kid drunk, right?
- 55:29I can't. You should pick them.
- 55:30Up Well, I shouldn't even drive drunk, but I'm saying, you know,
- 55:33there's certain things if I had been drinking a lot by that
- 55:36point. Well, then that's your fault,
- 55:38you know, You drove there. You should, you know, be able
- 55:40to. Drive.
- 55:41Oh yeah, no. Oh, I always drive back.
- 55:42I can have a couple beers and get drunk and then sober up by
- 55:45the time I leave. Yeah, because it's like, you
- 55:48know, a 7 hour party. God, what party did you go to?
- 55:52Connor I've had parties at my house that last three days from
- 55:56Friday, Saturday and Sunday. People sleep on the floor and
- 56:01they wake up and we keep partying.
- 56:02New Year's Eve, we do that. Partying.
- 56:04OK, hold on. Let me clarify.
- 56:06It's not a party the whole day, not the whole 24 hours.
- 56:11They sleep. We have a party, they sleep
- 56:13over, we wake up and they go do whatever.
- 56:17If they want to come back, they come back.
- 56:18If not, then they don't. Right.
- 56:20But there's a a whole group of people that stay there.
- 56:22And hang out. They go get breakfast or we eat
- 56:24breakfast. Or something.
- 56:25I, I, I, I, I'll make breakfast, I'll make all the food.
- 56:27So there's no reason to go unless they don't want it.
- 56:30Yeah. But yeah, we we party from
- 56:32Friday to the. Day in the daytime at like 6
- 56:36after yes. Why do you think I have 4 air
- 56:39mattresses, Connor? So they could sleep over.
- 56:42Right. So people do that all the time
- 56:44here they. Partying the days we're taking a
- 56:47party, Connor, right this you guys don't day trading.
- 56:50On New Year's Week and New Year's Day, what do you think
- 56:53we're doing on new? Year's Day, that's different,
- 56:54that's so different, but. What do you think you could?
- 56:57Be talking about like New Year's week and they could sleep over
- 56:59now and then Sunday do the same thing.
- 57:02Yes, yeah, but you're talking about a holiday that's
- 57:04different. OK, but especially New Year's,
- 57:07so we watch games. Because there's games.
- 57:11Yeah, but we're hanging out and we're talking.
- 57:12That's not a party. We're but we're still drinking.
- 57:15Oh yeah, that's like life. Killed the keg in a weekend.
- 57:20That that's not bad. With 12 people, yeah, that's
- 57:26not. Do you know how many beers there
- 57:28are in a keg? No 156.
- 57:31Like bottles or like cups? Servings of Red Solo Cup.
- 57:36Like full to the like line or like to the very top?
- 57:39The the oz whatever, it's supposed to be 8 or two, I don't
- 57:42know, but it's 12 ounce beers, 155 in a keg.
- 57:47That's not a lot I've drink more monsters with.
- 57:51Do me a favor and divide 155 by 12.
- 57:54Oh, I can tell you that's like 13.
- 57:57Yeah, 13 1/2 Fourteen to. 12.9 yeah.
- 58:00OK, so aside from all the shots, aside from all the other drinks,
- 58:07we finished 12 beers that weekend.
- 58:10Not a lot. Not a lot, some some calm.
- 58:15But that means all two over drinking.
- 58:17Yeah, 12 people. There's some people that don't
- 58:20drink beer, like my brother only drinks Jack and coke.
- 58:24Yeah, but you're making it 12 beers each or.
- 58:27Yeah, 12 beers each, OK, is what the average was.
- 58:29If everyone drink their 12 beers, which they didn't, I'd
- 58:32say in in reality, it was probably about 20 beers each,
- 58:34plus the shots and liquor that we're drinking on the weekend.
- 58:38Yeesh. One time Connor wakes up to go
- 58:43to the restroom and one of the guys is passed out on the floor
- 58:48because back he's like, hey, hey, Alex, he's he's passed out
- 58:51on the floor. I ever said hi to him, I was
- 58:54like, oh, hey, oh, OK. I turn back and I go to my dad's
- 58:58room and I'm like he's passed on the floor again and.
- 59:01He didn't make a mess. People respect my house.
- 59:03They they, they're actually really good about that.
- 59:04He was. He just liked the tiles.
- 59:07It was so cold. It was colder, yeah.
- 59:08And it was. It was a long bathroom, so it
- 59:11was like you walk in. You could lay down on the floor,
- 59:14yeah. I would sleep on the.
- 59:16Floor. I have slept on the floor
- 59:19because I have a lot of issues with my stomach and every now
- 59:21and then I get sick. Yeah, me too.
- 59:25The one time I was throwing up with Gatorade and it was a red
- 59:29Gatorade and I regret doing that ever.
- 59:33If you're sick, never drink any red fluid.
- 59:36Never. Well, that's a rule, actually.
- 59:39You'll cry, the doctors tell you.
- 59:41Don't eat anything red, No. Wonder why one?
- 59:46Of the funniest times that he got sick, he gets sick and he
- 59:49looks at he goes when did I eat cheese?
- 59:54You remember that I told him I had a friend of mine that got
- 59:57sick. He looked at He goes, When did I
- 59:59eat rice? That sounded like we pulled
- 1:00:04over. I threw up the exact same
- 1:00:07scenario as his friend. Exact same scenario, actually,
- 1:00:11yes, just a different food. All right, so we've been talking
- 1:00:16about the heat map and, you know, those actions you can take
- 1:00:21and then a little more than that.
- 1:00:22Let's talk about those pitfalls when we come back from break.
- 1:00:26Sounds good. OK.
- 1:00:26So we're going to take a quick break and we'll be right back.
- 1:00:30It's time for a break. Hot takes with the Murph man.
- 1:00:33We'll be right back. Stepping out this hotel window
- 1:01:01and floors above, what's missing down there is love.
- 1:01:11Thinking through the smoke that fills my mind.
- 1:01:17Don't worry, it's not my first time.
- 1:01:23It's me go so good seeing you I'll.
- 1:01:26Be. Seeing you.
- 1:01:40I. Say it's all inside heaven and
- 1:02:01hell. What happened to that Angel when
- 1:02:05he fell? Give it just one try.
- 1:02:12Tell me you don't like it. Be God for a moment and don't
- 1:02:17just buy this honey. Yours amigo.
- 1:02:23So good seeing you. I won't be seeing you around
- 1:02:33Leos amigo. I've been looking for you since
- 1:02:39I still put in this town. Step aside and breathe.
- 1:03:11Play a little in the street. Hope it's not me they're
- 1:03:16sending. Get the kids a little scared.
- 1:03:26Holy fences they ain't in mending Leos amigo.
- 1:03:34So glad seeing you. I won't be seeing you around
- 1:03:43Leos amigo. I've been looking for you.
- 1:03:55I'll be seeing you since I've been born
- 1:04:14in this town. None.

- 1:05:32Hello. Hi, we're back.
- 1:05:34We are back. How you doing today?
- 1:05:37All right, so. How you doing?
- 1:05:40OK 165 how you doing? Sorry.
- 1:05:48OK, so here, here's the thing. We have talked about the
- 1:05:54different things that you could do, like blocking out time,
- 1:06:01scheduling stuff and everything, but we have pitfalls too.
- 1:06:04Sometimes those pitfalls don't let us do what we need to do.
- 1:06:08So let's talk about those pitfalls now in our segment
- 1:06:10called Where You'll Get Burned. Let's talk about where you'll
- 1:06:21get burned. These are some common pitfalls.
- 1:06:25Saying yes to everything. This leads to over commitment
- 1:06:28and burnout. Protect your time like your
- 1:06:30health depends on it because it does.
- 1:06:34Treating rest as optional. It's essential.
- 1:06:37You cannot work 24/7 and be successful long term waiting for
- 1:06:42burnout to make changes. Be proactive, not reactive.
- 1:06:46You must build these habits before you hit a wall.
- 1:06:50Danger zone identified. Back to Murph, man for the
- 1:06:53warning. Saying yes to everything leads
- 1:06:59to over commitment and burnout. You know it's OK to say no.
- 1:07:03We've talked about that, right? Yeah.
- 1:07:05You know, protect your time like your health depends on it
- 1:07:07because it does. You can get sick because of the
- 1:07:14the health issues you could have from the stress of having to do
- 1:07:17too much. So think about that, OK?
- 1:07:20Because when we're when we're getting sick, there's always
- 1:07:25stress behind it. You can always see that stress
- 1:07:28is part of it, OK? So you, you don't really realize
- 1:07:32that, but it's funny because stress affects us a lot and
- 1:07:37burnout is a big, big part of that.
- 1:07:40Treating rest is optional. No, it's essential.
- 1:07:43You cannot work 24/7 and be successful long term.
- 1:07:47You can't, OK. Yeah.
- 1:07:50Waiting for burnout to make changes.
- 1:07:52Be proactive and not reactive. You must build these habits
- 1:07:54before you hit a wall. I will tell you what, last
- 1:07:58summer when I started the podcast, ideas and everything, I
- 1:08:02was going hardcore on this that I will say.
- 1:08:05I was going from first thing in the morning to the last thing at
- 1:08:08night. All summer.
- 1:08:11All summer. Yeah, you didn't go to bed till
- 1:08:14like. Yeah, sometime.
- 1:08:15No, it was summer. I'm off.
- 1:08:16I was literally off all summers, and I spent my entire summer
- 1:08:20vacation working on the podcast. If I could pay myself, I would
- 1:08:25have made a bunch of overtime. Oh yeah.
- 1:08:28OK, but I found it. It had to be.
- 1:08:33It was necessary to get started. Now I will tell you right, every
- 1:08:36now and then I do something new and it takes time.
- 1:08:41One of the things that I've been doing is I've been working on a
- 1:08:43video, an animated video for MBR again and AI is just not doing
- 1:08:48what I needed to do and it's really pissing me off.
- 1:08:51I have I, I, I'm, I curse at it because I'm so angry because
- 1:08:57it's not doing what I ask it to do and I'm, I'm not getting what
- 1:09:02I need. I'm having a tip together.
- 1:09:04So many clips isn't even funny. But you know, there there's
- 1:09:09things I got to do and it's going to take my time.
- 1:09:11You know, it just that's the way it is.
- 1:09:13OK, At work, when I had a little free time, you know, I could
- 1:09:18rest a little bit. And I don't mean like lay down
- 1:09:20and sleep, but you know, I didn't have to really do
- 1:09:22anything. Now I am busy almost every
- 1:09:27minute of the day from Monday to Wednesday.
- 1:09:32Like I am constantly doing something and I take a break
- 1:09:37here and there, you know, I have back issues and I have an
- 1:09:40injured hip. So I have to stand up and do
- 1:09:41that. But it's, it's a lot of work
- 1:09:45now. It's a lot of work.
- 1:09:46And then throw in recovering classes and all that stuff.
- 1:09:49So, you know, but when you think about it, you know.
- 1:09:56Am I happy, Connor? Yeah, I would say so.
- 1:10:00Yeah, I would think so. I am.
- 1:10:05You just work a lot. It's AI do like really a lot.
- 1:10:09OK, but if I had to ask you, how much time do we spend together?
- 1:10:15Like in a day, a week. In a week.
- 1:10:20Like a whole day worth 24. Hours. 24 hours.
- 1:10:23I would say maybe 2 days. Maybe almost two days.
- 1:10:25I was thinking a day and a half. If I were to come to the hours,
- 1:10:29that's a lot of hours. That's 36 hours OK In a seven
- 1:10:34day week, that means 5 hours a day on average.
- 1:10:37Yeah. We come over three, we go to bed
- 1:10:40at 10 and we're usually interacting during that time,
- 1:10:44right? Yeah, ladies, we go to bed at
- 1:10:4511. As well.
- 1:10:47To our we go to our rooms at 11 they up to like later.
- 1:10:50And you know, when we're in the living room, we're talking,
- 1:10:53we're watching ATV show or football game or something,
- 1:10:55right? Right now, the sports tonight is
- 1:10:59tonight or tomorrow, the Guardians game, the Rays and
- 1:11:03Guardians baseball. Tampa tonight.
- 1:11:11Is it tonight or tomorrow or last night like I thought the
- 1:11:15Brewers were? Oh my God, I miss game four of
- 1:11:17the Brewers beating the crap out of the Dodgers.
- 1:11:21Yeah, Tampa and Cleveland play tonight.
- 1:11:23Yeah, at six. And that's, that's a possible
- 1:11:26game four to win the series and move on to the the World Series.
- 1:11:29What's really cool though, is. If Cleveland wins, which I think
- 1:11:34they're going to lose this game, I think or.
- 1:11:36They're playing. At home.
- 1:11:38That's why I think they it might be an upset that temper.
- 1:11:41'S going to move I, I, I don't know.
- 1:11:43I was going to go to two and two.
- 1:11:44One of the things that was really interesting is Dodgers
- 1:11:48had the number one payroll in all of Major League Baseball.
- 1:11:53Shohei Otani made more than teams combined.
- 1:11:58Well. He had he had more payout than.
- 1:12:01He had more payout than one team had total.
- 1:12:04It wasn't two teams. I don't I don't know how many it
- 1:12:07was so. He made more money than the team
- 1:12:10in 30th place, which is I believe the Guardians.
- 1:12:14Then 28th is the Bucks of the the Bucks, the Rays and then the
- 1:12:1919th were the Brewers. So the 19th there's there's an
- 1:12:23argument for do we have more money, pay more so players and
- 1:12:27we get better players, right? And all of a sudden you you lose
- 1:12:35four games to to the Brewers. That's crazy, dude.
- 1:12:40And it it was like what they played and then a day off and
- 1:12:43then they played. Or yeah, yeah, yeah, they
- 1:12:45usually it's not back-to-back that's.
- 1:12:48Crazy and they just came off World Series also.
- 1:12:52Oh, yeah. But we're, I'm, I'm saying like
- 1:12:54right now you had the 19th, 28th and 30th ranked payrolls going
- 1:13:02to the world's championships, and you're going to have the
- 1:13:0519th and 20th or 30th in the World Series.
- 1:13:08So the argument is, does it really matter how much you spend
- 1:13:12on the team? And it should, right?
- 1:13:14But it doesn't always work out that way.
- 1:13:18Anyway, let's talk about those heat Shields and prevent us from
- 1:13:21those falls that we have. Oh.
- 1:13:34Voice over the prep is the protection.
- 1:13:36Here are your heat Shields. Intentional Prep Dedicate focus
- 1:13:40time to research and self-assessment, ensuring you
- 1:13:43are protected from the negative impact of unpreparedness or
- 1:13:46external pressure. Systematic Auditing Regularly
- 1:13:50review your commitments and energy drains to catch scope
- 1:13:53creep before it turns into full exhaustion.
- 1:13:57Peer Accountability Partner with a trusted colleague or mentor to
- 1:14:00hold you accountable to your off hours and recovery goals.
- 1:14:04The Shields are up, Murph man, What's next?
- 1:14:11The intentional prep you guys is when you think about it,
- 1:14:15dedicate focused. Excuse me, dedicate focused time
- 1:14:24on research and self-assessment, ensuring you are protected from
- 1:14:27the negative impact or unpreparedness of external
- 1:14:30pleasure. What does that mean?
- 1:14:34You need to make time to get away from things, you know?
- 1:14:40And then what I mean by that is, yeah, I can take a vacation to
- 1:14:44Mexico, but if I'm still thinking about work, I'm not,
- 1:14:48right? Yeah.
- 1:14:50You know, when I went on vacation, you know, like we go
- 1:14:55on vacation for a couple weeks. That's also when we do hang out.
- 1:14:59Sorry we were talking about we spent 36 hours a week most of
- 1:15:04our time. If it's not school hours like
- 1:15:08not during school. We hang out almost every day in
- 1:15:11the summer. Yeah, on our vacations we
- 1:15:14actually spend a lot of time together.
- 1:15:15I think that's the most we've ever spent time together was
- 1:15:19always vacation. Yeah, well, what vacation?
- 1:15:21We spend 7 weeks together. Yeah, when we visited 3 state, 4
- 1:15:27states what I say. Yeah, how many states we
- 1:15:34visited? In last seven weeks.
- 1:15:36I know this is off topic but I'm just like that's the most we
- 1:15:39spend together. We went to DC, then we went to
- 1:15:42Maryland and we went to Virginia, and then we went to
- 1:15:47Atlanta and Georgia. Then we went to Saint Louis.
- 1:15:53OK, it was no Georgia. Then we went through Tennessee
- 1:15:58and then we went to Missouri and then we crossed over to
- 1:16:01Illinois. Oh.
- 1:16:06That's where we drove. No, we didn't.
- 1:16:07Yeah, we drove from Atlanta to Saint Louis and back.
- 1:16:12That's right. So we visited, well, the trip
- 1:16:15where we had plans was 4 states or five well.
- 1:16:21States was 3 but like Saint Louis and Illinois are across
- 1:16:25the river from each other and then DC is literally Virginia
- 1:16:30and Maryland together. We stayed in Maryland.
- 1:16:34We partied in Virginia. Yeah, you know, but the whole
- 1:16:37trip we did take was 7 or 8 States and.
- 1:16:45OK. But yeah, so we do spend a lot
- 1:16:47of time together. But the point being is when you
- 1:16:50go on a vacation like we do for Christmas or Thanksgiving, it's
- 1:16:52a week or two, you know, 10 days, whatever.
- 1:16:55I'm not thinking about work when I come back, you know I'm not.
- 1:17:00I am. I don't get the time off I used
- 1:17:04to in high school. Oh yeah, that's different, you
- 1:17:07know. Instead of two weeks, we want to
- 1:17:08spend like a week or a weekend. For me, for me, the hardest
- 1:17:13thing is coming back from a summer vacation and having to
- 1:17:14work like just out of the blue, getting back to work one day,
- 1:17:18you know? Yeah.
- 1:17:20And I hit the ground running as much as I can.
- 1:17:24But when you're on vacation, don't think about work.
- 1:17:27You know, it's funny because next year I actually asked the
- 1:17:31people to send me data over the summer so I can get hit the
- 1:17:35ground running and do what I need to do for national society.
- 1:17:38So next summer and every summer from then on, I'm probably going
- 1:17:42to be working a day or two during summer before school
- 1:17:47actually starts. That's not bad.
- 1:17:49No, it's not, you know. But again, we talked about
- 1:17:51breaking, you know, it's your vacation.
- 1:17:53Don't work right. Get away from it.
- 1:17:55Don't think about it. I mean if it's your it was a
- 1:17:59week before or the week end like Friday to Sunday the more school
- 1:18:04starts then I would say work there.
- 1:18:08Make sure you have everything. Make sure your courses are
- 1:18:11there. Make sure you have all your
- 1:18:14stuff like on your desk ready to go.
- 1:18:18That's when I would say last day of summer vacation would be.
- 1:18:23Prepping to go back. That Thursday.
- 1:18:25Yeah, yeah, I'll, I'll give you that.
- 1:18:28All right. Another thing that you have to
- 1:18:29do is systematic auditing, readily review your commitments
- 1:18:32and energy drains to catch scope.
- 1:18:35Let me tell you, Friday mornings we would have a staff meeting
- 1:18:40and we would go to to the office and we'd have our meeting.
- 1:18:47Then we would break and we'll stick around for lunch
- 1:18:50sometimes. And before you know it, we have,
- 1:18:59I don't know, two hours before lunch.
- 1:19:01And then next we hang out, do paperwork, and we have lunch
- 1:19:04together. After that, nobody wants to go
- 1:19:07and work, right? So Fridays is a wasted day.
- 1:19:12And if I'm a boss, I'm not going to schedule a meeting on
- 1:19:16Fridays. At least I'm I'm going to try
- 1:19:19not to because it's a wasted day of people work in the office.
- 1:19:27Makes sense. Yeah.
- 1:19:29All right. And last but not least, pure
- 1:19:31accountability. Partner with trusted colleagues
- 1:19:33or members to hold you accountable to your off hours.
- 1:19:38I have a Co worker. Love, love my team.
- 1:19:42I love my team. But one time I texted him in the
- 1:19:46morning. I texted the group in the
- 1:19:48morning and the other Co worker, we're having a conversation.
- 1:19:53He never jumped in. He finally answered at 8:45 at
- 1:19:56night and she responds with welcome to the conversation, you
- 1:20:02know? And then I replied with we're
- 1:20:05not talking about this right now.
- 1:20:09Done. You have to protect yourself and
- 1:20:12them too because sometimes they do a lot more than what we
- 1:20:16think. OK.
- 1:20:21You good? He's trying to do something.
- 1:20:24I don't know what he's trying to.
- 1:20:26Do it won't. You can't change it during the
- 1:20:28show, it says right at the top. I I I could and live info after
- 1:20:36you go live I I could I can now update.
- 1:20:41I literally love changing it. OK, because like what you have
- 1:20:44the name as? OK.
- 1:20:47But it won't work, so Oh well. Well, those of you turning in on
- 1:20:51our other channels, we're not playing trivia and bingo
- 1:20:53tonight. We play trivia and bingo every
- 1:20:54Wednesday at 7:00 PM Mountain, 9:00 PM Eastern.
- 1:20:58It is free to play. There are no prizes.
- 1:20:59Right now, we're just having fun doing trivia on military
- 1:21:02broadcast radio. And if you're catching us on any
- 1:21:04of the social medias, what's really cool is if you have a
- 1:21:06Roku TV, you can find us there as well on military broadcast
- 1:21:10radio channel. You can definitely catch us
- 1:21:14there and play trivia on Wednesday night.
- 1:21:15We we didn't do anything this past Wednesday, but we are
- 1:21:20definitely going to be doing it this Wednesday, I promise you
- 1:21:22that. So this week was a really,
- 1:21:24really bad week. Why?
- 1:21:26Why didn't you guys do it Wednesday?
- 1:21:33I got thrown into cover history class.
- 1:21:36That's right. And I needed to prepare for life
- 1:21:40class the next day. The teacher got sick and I cover
- 1:21:45for them. That's what I do.
- 1:21:47So yeah, well, I had to cover for that.
- 1:21:52How'd you feel about it? Oh, that's not your regular?
- 1:21:57It it's OK. Am I good with math?
- 1:22:02Yeah. Yeah, I'm good with math.
- 1:22:04You're good with numbers, you're not good with math.
- 1:22:09What do I say? Math is not supposed to have
- 1:22:12letters. Yeah.
- 1:22:15Basic math, multiplicative division, Name it.
- 1:22:17I'm I'm great. Throw a letter in there.
- 1:22:20It's like what? Right.
- 1:22:25Yeah, then this time we don't even have any numbers anymore,
- 1:22:29all just letters. Oh yeah?
- 1:22:31Well, yeah, you get to the point where it's all letters, but
- 1:22:39English is my second language and I was horrible at English in
- 1:22:44high school. I actually I take ESOL to
- 1:22:47graduate. What's your second language?
- 1:22:49English. Yeah, my second language.
- 1:22:51Wow. Connor, I grew up in a Mexican
- 1:22:54house with my mom and my TS and my grandmother being home all
- 1:22:58day with me. I only spoke English when my dad
- 1:23:00came home at night because no one would speak to me in
- 1:23:03English. Yeah, OK.
- 1:23:11So yeah. I forget that, yeah.
- 1:23:13English is my second language. Of how white you are.
- 1:23:19That's so surprising. Yeah, it it and for me.
- 1:23:22English is my first language. And you're more Mexican than me.
- 1:23:25Yeah. Anyway, the point what the how?
- 1:23:29The point being is I couldn't teach English because I never
- 1:23:31learned it like that. I was horrible at English.
- 1:23:35We have a English is different than just speaking it and I hate
- 1:23:38that English classes is always grammar.
- 1:23:41This. What's the author trying to
- 1:23:45write about? Like no.
- 1:23:47Oh. Well, it's it's language arts
- 1:23:48too. It's all about reading it.
- 1:23:49But I'm saying English itself I I hating.
- 1:23:52Novel. Yeah.
- 1:23:53Social studies stuff I can do really well in I.
- 1:23:58Yeah, I. Know OK, for those of you that
- 1:24:01are going to become teachers, let me tell you a little bit
- 1:24:03about social studies. If you get certified in social
- 1:24:05studies 6 through 12, you end up having to teach whatever the
- 1:24:13school needs. It's like, I want to teach
- 1:24:15psychology. I'm a college professor.
- 1:24:17Put me in a dual credit school teach psychology, right?
- 1:24:20Like Oh no, we need you to teach something else.
- 1:24:23And I said OK, like what? They said we need APE coach.
- 1:24:27I suck at PE, but I could be APE coach, right?
- 1:24:31And then they said we also need someone that teaches art.
- 1:24:34And I said, you're trying to get APE coach that teaches art and
- 1:24:40psychology. I was like, no way that that
- 1:24:45just you're never going to find that match.
- 1:24:46I said, you're going to have to find one teacher to teach
- 1:24:48psychology, maybe art or psychology and PE.
- 1:24:51But PE and art, you're not going to catch to find that at all.
- 1:24:55And yeah, they end up having to hire two people, you know, But
- 1:25:02if I teach psychology and I get certified social studies and I
- 1:25:04go get a job in first semester, I teach psychology.
- 1:25:06Next semester they come up to me and go We need a history teacher
- 1:25:09and we need you to teach world geography and macroeconomics.
- 1:25:14Two complete different things. That's not what I'm I want to do
- 1:25:19here, right? I can do world Geo, I can do
- 1:25:21that for micro no. Right.
- 1:25:25You know I. Don't know why they do that.
- 1:25:28They try budget cuts, yeah, in time.
- 1:25:32People don't do that. Well, OK, if you do, then
- 1:25:35Congrats to you, but not what? I'm going to talk about
- 1:25:43something you'll be like, what? What you're not going to
- 1:25:45understand if I'm going to try. Well, just right now, enrollment
- 1:25:50is declining in schools all over the country.
- 1:25:53As in teachers or students? Enrollment students, yeah.
- 1:25:57So that means you don't need as many teachers.
- 1:26:00OK. Do you know why enrollment's
- 1:26:05dropping? The students don't care, no.
- 1:26:09Two reasons. A lot of students are going to
- 1:26:11go to the charter schools. OK, so all the schools that used
- 1:26:15to get every student in the district to come to them, now
- 1:26:19you have open enrollment so they can go to any school in the
- 1:26:22city. So like if someone likes to
- 1:26:24start in school, they can go to that school now and you lose
- 1:26:27that student in your school. In your district, yeah.
- 1:26:30And yeah, sometimes even in the district.
- 1:26:33So charter schools have affected enrollment.
- 1:26:35So public schools aren't getting as much money as they used to.
- 1:26:38So they can't pay as many teachers, but they don't need as
- 1:26:39many teachers if they combine classes.
- 1:26:42But the second reason, more more importantly, is low birth rate.
- 1:26:47We're not having babies like we used to, right?
- 1:26:51There's a lot more singles, a lot more adults that have no
- 1:26:54kids. So that means there's less kids
- 1:26:58to put in school and that is going to stay a problem.
- 1:27:03And on top of that, you use AI to grade now, right?
- 1:27:10I hate that. Well, but it's true.
- 1:27:13So did you know the written essay on the SAT is now assessed
- 1:27:19by an AI then? What's the point dude?
- 1:27:25Well, honestly, what's the point of going to school at all?
- 1:27:29Well, you still have to learn this stuff.
- 1:27:30No you don't AI. It's searches the web.
- 1:27:34If we're becoming Wall-e, where the fat people just become
- 1:27:37fatter and fatter and fatter, and Idiocracy, where we.
- 1:27:39Can't even get to that. We can't even get to that
- 1:27:42technology. We're just going to be fat.
- 1:27:43We're just going to be sitting here.
- 1:27:45Can't even get on a ship. Well, I'm already there, so.
- 1:27:50Congrats. Did you do a live action movie?
- 1:27:53Make sure to call you up. Yes, yes, no.
- 1:27:56Even then, I don't know. I like AI sometimes, but if it's
- 1:28:01for the benefit of students, especially if they're like
- 1:28:08little like in elementary or middle school, it's not going to
- 1:28:12work. Everybody's using AI for the
- 1:28:15wrong things. And I hate it.
- 1:28:16Yes, I will say that. That's that's the point.
- 1:28:19I hate it. Let me, let me tell you.
- 1:28:21Especially in computer science. Well, yeah, they're using to.
- 1:28:25Yeah, they're trying to take our jobs now.
- 1:28:28Well, yeah. And it's not working.
- 1:28:30That's. Why I told you, maybe you want
- 1:28:31to consider going to hardware. No, there was a company that had
- 1:28:34AI do their things. It deleted every user from the
- 1:28:39from the company. Yeah, because it didn't need
- 1:28:42them. No it.
- 1:28:44That's what it was, no? It wasn't.
- 1:28:46It was trying to list them based on their like ranks and all that
- 1:28:53and trying to delete something from like this rank and then add
- 1:28:56it to. Here they deleted the whole.
- 1:28:59Use your list. There's there's more to it.
- 1:29:01Like let me ask you a question. There's AI that they want to
- 1:29:04give access to investing funds. Don't.
- 1:29:08That gives them the AI permission to buy whatever it
- 1:29:11wants. Buy and sell, even with.
- 1:29:13Buy and sell. Not their own money, yeah.
- 1:29:15Does that mean they're going to do a good job?
- 1:29:17What happens if you have $1,000,000 in there and it just
- 1:29:20decides to buy $1,000,000 of Tesla stock?
- 1:29:25Tesla's actually going good, right?
- 1:29:26Now, no it's not. Actually went down after the
- 1:29:28roster came out. Really.
- 1:29:29Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 1:29:30You know how much that? Cost yeah like $250,000 deposit.
- 1:29:35Oh well, it was like 500 actually.
- 1:29:37Yeah, well, but the cost of the car, so the average person is
- 1:29:40not going to be able to use it. So it actually brought down
- 1:29:42Tesla stock. Good.
- 1:29:46Why do you even make that? Just all that smoke or what?
- 1:29:52It's not smoke, it's colder release but.
- 1:29:55You're blinding people. What are you going to speed?
- 1:29:59You're going to blind everybody on the.
- 1:30:00Highway, that's the thing. You can be leapfrogging cars,
- 1:30:04you know. Oh, I can't do that.
- 1:30:06No, but imagine if a car is cutting you off with a car in
- 1:30:08front of you hits a brake suddenly you can.
- 1:30:09It'll automatically recognize that and jump over the car.
- 1:30:12Like OK, I can, I don't know, I have to go upside down.
- 1:30:16But I can understand the suction pulling you to the ground.
- 1:30:20It'll make you go faster, zero 16.1 seconds, but because the
- 1:30:25car is being pulled to the ground, the cars have more grip
- 1:30:28and they can go faster but you pull 3GS pulling out of the the
- 1:30:32chute. 3GS3GS and also the thrust with the cold air.
- 1:30:38Yeah, no. It OK, but the point.
- 1:30:42Being. There's just no point in making
- 1:30:43that. The point being is don't give AI
- 1:30:45access to your your investment funds.
- 1:30:50But yeah, AI is becoming part of everything we do.
- 1:30:52I mean, what you see here, let me let me show you real quick.
- 1:30:57You go ahead. For the slide.
- 1:30:59You have the mouse. No, you have the slides.
- 1:31:03Yeah, what you see here, that is not AI in any way, shape or
- 1:31:09form. That is settings what?
- 1:31:11Do you mean? John, you turn the box screen.
- 1:31:17OK, hold on. Where is that?
- 1:31:23You didn't have settings open. I don't.
- 1:31:26I'm trying to see where it is. Settings.
- 1:31:30The settings. It's actual settings but.
- 1:31:33It's not. That is, where did you go to do
- 1:31:39the display? We don't have that open out
- 1:31:50there all. Right.
- 1:31:52So let's see if we got this fixed, Connor.
- 1:31:55Oh my God, Nope. No, hold on.
- 1:32:02He's back to us. Yeah.
- 1:32:06Let's fix this real quick, guys. Yeah, no.
- 1:32:13OK, go back to the camera. Oh wait, hold on, zoom in.
- 1:32:18You can zoom in. Huh.
- 1:32:20No, that's the display. I know what it is.
- 1:32:24From today. Yeah.
- 1:32:28Yeah. Well, I guess, yeah.
- 1:32:30Well, change it to camera. Yeah, hold on.
- 1:32:34Oops. OK.
- 1:32:36So anyway, the point being is the camera that we have OK, has
- 1:32:46the screen share. I should say go to.
- 1:32:50But the whole point I'm trying to say is this whole podcast,
- 1:32:55the whole slides you've been seeing this the the commercials.
- 1:32:59Well, not the commercials, the songs are real, but the trivia,
- 1:33:05the sections, this whole thing, the intro, outro, everything AI.
- 1:33:15Everything you see here is AI. Well, that, that's what I say.
- 1:33:17Not everything you see here, that's what, that's what I was
- 1:33:20trying to show on the slides, because that's not AI.
- 1:33:22Yeah, the only thing that's not AI is the commercials.
- 1:33:28That's it. Oh, even even the commercials
- 1:33:30are AI, the songs are not. Yeah, the some of the songs,
- 1:33:33yeah. OK.
- 1:33:34But all right, here we go. Hold on.
- 1:33:43Was it last slide? So the Afterburn, OK, that's
- 1:33:50like we're going to talk about this next, but that's not AI.
- 1:33:55That background is I asked for it in AI and said, hey, do me a
- 1:34:02background with Kohl's. Boom.
- 1:34:04But the text and all that is just settings in Canva.
- 1:34:07OK, so I have to do some work here.
- 1:34:17Nope, shortcuts. I can't find that.
- 1:34:23All right, sorry. Let me go ahead and play the
- 1:34:26afterburn and we'll come back to that question I was.
- 1:34:36Just this. In today's Afterburn, here are
- 1:34:39questions for you to reflect on. What does balance look like for
- 1:34:43me right now? Where am I over committed and
- 1:34:46why? What's 1 boundary I can set this
- 1:34:50week? Let's get your opinion on this
- 1:34:52Murph man. All right, So what does balance
- 1:34:56look like for me right now? Well, for me, I need to stop
- 1:35:00doing a lot of work. And I, I, I have stopped a lot
- 1:35:04of work, but I just have a lot going on right now.
- 1:35:07OK. But for you, when you're trying
- 1:35:11to do a life work balance, what's your priority?
- 1:35:18And you have to say between these hours, work is your
- 1:35:20priority. And then after that, what is
- 1:35:23your next priority? OK, then we're going to have
- 1:35:28where am I over committed and why?
- 1:35:33Well, just like being a teacher during finals or during
- 1:35:38midterms, I'm going to be busier because those are more
- 1:35:43assignments, more tests, more everything.
- 1:35:45OK. And then what is 1 boundary I
- 1:35:49can set this week? So ask yourself right now, what
- 1:35:54can you change right now? OK, hold on this.
- 1:36:02We're going to we're going to talk about technology.
- 1:36:04And when we come back, we'll talk about what technology can
- 1:36:09help you with this in our digital inferno.
- 1:36:11Don't worry about it. Technology must be used to
- 1:36:23enforce, not violate, your boundaries.
- 1:36:26Utilize communication apps like Slack or Teams to set your
- 1:36:29status to Do Not Disturb and communicate your end of day with
- 1:36:33a simple scheduled message. Most importantly, use calendar
- 1:36:38blocking for personal time, sleep, meals, exercise.
- 1:36:42This sends an external signal to your colleagues that your time
- 1:36:45is valuable and protected. Set up automated out of office
- 1:36:49replies or after hours notification filters to
- 1:36:52completely disconnect when your work day ends.
- 1:36:56Murph, man, let's hear what you have to say about AI this time.
- 1:37:00Well, we've been talking about that, right Connor?
- 1:37:02AI utilize communication apps like Slacker Teams to set your
- 1:37:06status to Do Not Disturb. I have Do Not Disturb from 3:00
- 1:37:11PM to 6:58 PM or AM. Don't don't text me during those
- 1:37:17hours. Now, can they text me on my
- 1:37:21phone? Yes, but for work you're trying
- 1:37:24to communications at work get all shut off overnight.
- 1:37:28Also my phone, I have it right here, right?
- 1:37:32I haven't do not disturb because this is my priority right now.
- 1:37:36So you can do those kind of things very easily and you know,
- 1:37:42communicating your end of day message, you know, I always say
- 1:37:45good, you know, have a good day, see y'all tomorrow, something
- 1:37:48like that, you know. Really.
- 1:37:51Not every day, but I mean when, when I OK, then I'll send it out
- 1:37:59when we're working on something and I know this will take
- 1:38:01forever and I'm have to do it tomorrow.
- 1:38:05I'm not going to stay at late. So I send a message.
- 1:38:08All right, we'll pick this up tomorrow.
- 1:38:09You guys see you later. Right.
- 1:38:12Yeah. Also calendar blocking is so
- 1:38:15important. I already talked about that.
- 1:38:17Now it says block time out for sleep.
- 1:38:19What do you think is more important Connor?
- 1:38:22All in the sleep or waking up at the same time.
- 1:38:25Waking up at the same time. That's more important.
- 1:38:27OK, once you get into that habit of waking up, your body will
- 1:38:30wake you up at that at that time.
- 1:38:32Now, what's funny is during daylight savings time, you know,
- 1:38:35it changes because your body has to get used in the time.
- 1:38:37But you can't say, hey, why did you wake me up an hour earlier?
- 1:38:40It's, it's fall safe, you know. Yeah, we get an extra hour.
- 1:38:47Well, yeah, we fall back an hour, so we get an extra hour,
- 1:38:50but your body doesn't know that it's still going to be waking up
- 1:38:51at the same time. So instead of seven waking up at
- 1:38:54six, Yeah. OK.
- 1:38:57You know what that's kind of good for me?
- 1:39:00Extra hour of sleep. No.
- 1:39:05If it no. If you go to bed at and wake up
- 1:39:08at 7, you're going to be waking up at 8:00.
- 1:39:11The clock is still going to say 7, but you're waking up as if it
- 1:39:14was 8. Did you fall back on that 1?
- 1:39:17I think. Oh yeah.
- 1:39:21I don't know how any of that works.
- 1:39:22That's a villain's origin story there, if he's getting me to
- 1:39:25start talking about that, all right.
- 1:39:30Also, if you have a regular schedule, breaks for lunch,
- 1:39:35breaks for exercise or sleep, communicate that to your team.
- 1:39:40You know, maybe not exercise, but lunch for me is every day at
- 1:39:4312, right? Well, 11/11/30.
- 1:39:49Well, no. It's 12 their time. 11 our time.
- 1:39:52Oh. That's right, I forget there.
- 1:39:53So they at 12:00 is their lunch. The funniest thing happens at
- 1:39:58lunch. All the students are coming in
- 1:40:02because they're on lunch too. Look, I got some free time.
- 1:40:04I'll go talk to my teacher. We're not there.
- 1:40:11And last but not least, set up automated out of office replies.
- 1:40:14I don't do that unless I'm on vacation for like a a week or
- 1:40:22I'm on vacation three days out. I'll or like when I was in the
- 1:40:25like when I was in the hospital, I didn't put an out of office
- 1:40:28well, right. Because you're still working?
- 1:40:30Yeah. Wait, when you were in the
- 1:40:32hospital? Yeah.
- 1:40:33When did you go in the hospital? The VAI mean the Beaumont
- 1:40:36hospital, remember I was there for a couple days, had
- 1:40:38gallbladder surgery. No.
- 1:40:43OK, the the timeline was Thursday was Thanksgiving,
- 1:40:45Friday I was oh, that's right, Saturday I went emergency room,
- 1:40:48Sunday I had surgery my Monday I was my.
- 1:40:50My uncle took me there. Yes, I remember.
- 1:40:52And then Tuesday I got discharged and I had my phone on
- 1:40:57and I told my boss. I said don't worry, I'll answer
- 1:40:59messages or whatever. I don't get a lot of messages.
- 1:41:02I said, but I I can't do a class.
- 1:41:06Obviously I can't grade papers from my cell phone.
- 1:41:10But the lot of office is, is funny because like at the start
- 1:41:15of the year, I needed to have some things done for national on
- 1:41:19society. And I sent the girl a message
- 1:41:20and I got a message back out of office.
- 1:41:21I'm like, how long are you out of office for?
- 1:41:25The date she was going to be gone the whole week that I
- 1:41:28needed her to do the stuff that I needed her to do.
- 1:41:31So she's an important person at the school.
- 1:41:33So when she comes back from vacation, she has a whole lot of
- 1:41:37messages. And I sent her one that said, I
- 1:41:40know you're just getting back and you have a lot more
- 1:41:44important things to do besides me, but when you're ready to do
- 1:41:48my things, let me know please. And she's like, OK, two days
- 1:41:53later. So now we have a week and two
- 1:41:55days late from what I needed her for.
- 1:41:57Oh God, she had it all done like that first day because she knew
- 1:42:02what she needed to do. She just didn't.
- 1:42:03All the things were priorities. And having that out of the
- 1:42:09office tells people, OK, don't bother her, she's out.
- 1:42:13I did send an e-mail that said, hey, I know you're out, but
- 1:42:17boom, boom, boom, right? Did I expect you to return my
- 1:42:21message while she's on vacation? No, no, if I needed her, I'd
- 1:42:25have to reach out on her cell phone.
- 1:42:27But the whole point is they're on vacation.
- 1:42:30Yeah, the whole point's still, you know.
- 1:42:31Leave them, leave them the hell alone.
- 1:42:33And you don't have to answer your phone.
- 1:42:34You're on vacation. And there there's a guy on
- 1:42:36TikTok, George Stern, I've showed I showed you his Tik
- 1:42:38Toks. He talks about like text message
- 1:42:42threads with people and the boss will say something like, Hey, I
- 1:42:46got some bad news. They got to cancel your
- 1:42:47vacation. And the employees like, well,
- 1:42:49what do you mean? Well, you know, we're too busy,
- 1:42:52you know, because such and such left and we haven't been able to
- 1:42:55feel their slot and you're leaving.
- 1:42:56It's going to be too hard. You can't go on vacation.
- 1:42:58They're like, I'm getting married and I had the planes
- 1:43:03booked. I had, you know, like, like, I'm
- 1:43:06not going to cancel this vacation.
- 1:43:07Well, if you choose not to come to work, you're fired.
- 1:43:12That's that's wrong. That's so wrong.
- 1:43:15But if you watch George Stern, he has a lot of those kinds of
- 1:43:17stories. And it's it's just interesting
- 1:43:20to listen to how some managers treat people.
- 1:43:23I wouldn't reply if I'm on vacation if my boss is messaging
- 1:43:27me. Yeah, but one day you you wake
- 1:43:30up and you're fired. Yeah.
- 1:43:33Probably even then it's a wedding it's it takes months.
- 1:43:39We'll like, one guy was in Italy for a vacation and the boss
- 1:43:44texted him and said, I need to hear you tomorrow.
- 1:43:46Like, I'm not coming back until Wednesday.
- 1:43:49We've already rebooked all your flights.
- 1:43:52He's like, I don't care. I'm not coming back, you know?
- 1:43:56And then he says you're right, go ahead, fire me.
- 1:43:59Yeah, don't come back. As a counselor when I was gone,
- 1:44:08I tell my families, don't reach out to me because I'm on
- 1:44:10vacation and this is an emergency.
- 1:44:14And you have to ask yourself what will causing me change in
- 1:44:18that emergency, right? If you just need to talk to
- 1:44:22somebody, OK, If you're a suicidal, I'm the only one they
- 1:44:25can reach out to, I guess, you know?
- 1:44:30But set those boundaries before you go on vacation, right?
- 1:44:33I'm a teacher, Mr. Murphy, I need this assignment graded.
- 1:44:38No, tough shit. It's not getting graded.
- 1:44:42You know, you're Sol. So actually, I had a student
- 1:44:50that actually replied to me one day and said, Mr. Murphy, I need
- 1:44:52this graded. Or am I just Sol?
- 1:44:56I wrote her back and I said I'm not getting a paper right now.
- 1:45:03If I have time later today I will and I'll let you know.
- 1:45:06So thank you. It's vacation.
- 1:45:09She's trying to get caught up, but she emailed me.
- 1:45:12She didn't text me, she emailed me.
- 1:45:15But I just think that, you know, I could ignore the message and
- 1:45:18no one would know. But I know and checking the
- 1:45:22assignment, it's literally a 5 minute thing.
- 1:45:25If I spare 5 minutes, I did and done, you know?
- 1:45:31But when someone's on vacation, you do not want to be that guy
- 1:45:35and bother them. Trust me, you don't want to do
- 1:45:37that. Never.
- 1:45:39OK, and if you're the boss and someone takes vacation, leave
- 1:45:43them the hell alone, please. It's your fault that you're
- 1:45:47having issues. Yeah, you know, and you know,
- 1:45:51you can't say they cut the the budget or whatever because guess
- 1:45:55what, you know, that's not their fault, It's yours.
- 1:46:01All right, so let's just take, we're not going to take another
- 1:46:06break, but we are going to talk about the final burden.
- 1:46:09So go ahead and let's queue it up.
- 1:46:21The final take from today's discussion is balance isn't a
- 1:46:25luxury, it's a life skill. Protect your piece like it's
- 1:46:28your paycheck. The final flame has been struck
- 1:46:32back to Murph Man to wrap the show.
- 1:46:35All right, last night before the movie started, I showed Connor
- 1:46:39this. I said, what do you think?
- 1:46:42And he goes, that's that's really cool.
- 1:46:45And I said, protect your piece like it's your paycheck.
- 1:46:49It's a job. You can't just say, oh, it'll
- 1:46:53take care of itself. No, it's like a job.
- 1:46:55You have to go and ask for the time off.
- 1:46:58You have to go and take the time off and you have to decide what
- 1:47:01to do on your time off. Right.
- 1:47:04Yeah. It's like a paycheck for you.
- 1:47:07It's a job, you know? Balance isn't the luxuries and
- 1:47:10life skill you have to learn to say no, OK, Saying yes all the
- 1:47:14time is not a good thing. You know, if you're that person
- 1:47:19that your boss turns to all the time when there's a crisis, OK,
- 1:47:23that's your problem because you'd let them turn to you every
- 1:47:27time and you fixed it. And if you're a high not earner,
- 1:47:34but if you're the expert quote, UN quote and they're always
- 1:47:38coming to you for something, you let that happen, right?
- 1:47:42Yeah. We've those of us who are high
- 1:47:46achievers, we we tend to fix problems without even bringing
- 1:47:50to anyone's attention. We just do what we have to do to
- 1:47:52fix it and before you know it you start doing things for
- 1:47:57people. And a perfect example is the
- 1:47:59last school I worked at I left with like 3 days notice.
- 1:48:05It's long story. Not because I hated them or
- 1:48:07anything, it just that's how it all worked out because of
- 1:48:09Christmas vacations and whatnot. But they still called me
- 1:48:13afterwards and they still need my help and now I'm OK with
- 1:48:15that. But what's funny was I left and
- 1:48:20a lot of the issues came up that I was working with.
- 1:48:27I laughed because I was like, yeah, dude, I would take care of
- 1:48:30that by doing this. I didn't know you did that, you
- 1:48:33know? Well, I wasn't bragging.
- 1:48:36I wasn't telling people about a problem.
- 1:48:38I just took care of things and someone come to me for advice
- 1:48:42where they would say, Oh my God, Connor did this again.
- 1:48:44Well, tell Connor to this dude or be like, yeah, you're right
- 1:48:47to be upset. Tell them to go to hell, you
- 1:48:49know, OK. But I was that person we people
- 1:48:52would turn to. That was the front desk.
- 1:48:55And what was funny was they actually, yeah, they I left and
- 1:49:01a lot of it fell apart. Yeah, the school shut down.
- 1:49:06Well, that's not no, that's not because of me.
- 1:49:08I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
- 1:49:09They they consolidated the school into a elementary middle
- 1:49:13school. They didn't shut up because of
- 1:49:15me. Didn't shut up.
- 1:49:16That's funny. I should tell people that.
- 1:49:18Yeah. Yeah, if you go back there, it's
- 1:49:21not there anymore. What are they?
- 1:49:23Going to do with those buildings if you could picture a question
- 1:49:34mark in the air over my head. They're still there.
- 1:49:38What buildings are there UE? Like the library.
- 1:49:42They're using it. They remodeled it.
- 1:49:46What am I thinking? Oh, I'm thinking of fan in.
- 1:49:48Yeah. That's right.
- 1:49:50Sorry. I was like, yeah, what a yeah,
- 1:49:57that's my bad. That's another part of town.
- 1:50:00This northeast. We're central.
- 1:50:02Only 12 miles away. No, it's not 12 miles, don't
- 1:50:05even. No, we did not know so.
- 1:50:11He's talking about they closed his school after he left and
- 1:50:14everything and they haven't done anything with they're trying to
- 1:50:16sell the property. 9.2 miles. OK, my bad.
- 1:50:22Almost 10. Yeah, I'm like get get your
- 1:50:24facts right. But remember, OK, those high
- 1:50:30achievers do things and you bring on a lot of stress
- 1:50:33yourself if you're a high achiever because people expect
- 1:50:35things from you. Just be careful with it.
- 1:50:40It's a secret power, a superpower if you will, and
- 1:50:43people don't have to know you have it OK.
- 1:50:46But once you leave, all of it becomes very clear how much you
- 1:50:50actually would do for the for the company before you left.
- 1:50:54I myself had a teacher at the school on Matt that there was 1
- 1:50:59teacher that had a lot of problems with a lot of people
- 1:51:02and I did my best to get along with her.
- 1:51:04You know, it was, it was OK for the most part.
- 1:51:08All of a sudden she was gone. I don't know if she quit or she
- 1:51:10got fired or died or I have 0 idea.
- 1:51:13I don't ask. That's not I don't need to know.
- 1:51:16Although I am curious. I don't need to know.
- 1:51:18But I, I took over her class and I didn't reach out to her and
- 1:51:23say hey I, I need your school data whatever, you know what I
- 1:51:27mean. She no longer worked for us.
- 1:51:30Why am I going to bother her now?
- 1:51:33Again, she might have passed away and I don't know, you know?
- 1:51:37Who knows? Highly doubt that though, never
- 1:51:39would think about that. Oh yeah?
- 1:51:42Well, dude. I'd rather her take her hostage
- 1:51:46or something then think she's dead.
- 1:51:50Oh. I don't know what you mean by
- 1:51:51that, but OK. Well, like worst scenario, like
- 1:51:53worst case. Scenario.
- 1:51:54You would rather think something like that instead of saying
- 1:51:57she's dead? Yeah, OK.
- 1:52:00We had one employee one time that was in the hospital and her
- 1:52:04mom called the office and I told you the story before and the mom
- 1:52:08said, hey, this person's in the hospital.
- 1:52:11And my boss was like what, what's wrong?
- 1:52:13What happened? The mom answers none of your
- 1:52:15business. It technically is.
- 1:52:25It's not her business. She's right.
- 1:52:28Well, no, hold on. You don't have to tell someone
- 1:52:29why you're out. I'm in the emergency room.
- 1:52:31I'm in the hospital. I won't be back for three days.
- 1:52:34That's all you have to tell them.
- 1:52:35You don't have to give any personal data.
- 1:52:38I guess, yeah. You know you don't.
- 1:52:40Well, I was your friend. You know, I broke my leg.
- 1:52:44I'm in the hospital getting fixed.
- 1:52:45I won't be at work today. All right?
- 1:52:47So be it. You know what I mean?
- 1:52:49You don't have to explain to the boss anything.
- 1:52:52You don't. Period.
- 1:52:53You don't have to maybe want to, you can.
- 1:52:57But this mom, she's like none of your business.
- 1:53:00And my boss was like, OK, thank you.
- 1:53:04And she didn't reach out to her. Three days later, we still
- 1:53:08hadn't heard from her. You know, she didn't call us or
- 1:53:13nothing. The 4th day, she didn't come
- 1:53:16into work when she was supposed to.
- 1:53:19The fifth day, she didn't come into work.
- 1:53:21No messes, no nothing. And then my boss fired her.
- 1:53:26Oh yeah. And she's like, I'm still in the
- 1:53:28hospital. And say something.
- 1:53:31Well, yeah, we we don't know this.
- 1:53:34There's a point where, yeah, you don't have to say why you're in
- 1:53:37the hospital, but if you only said three days, they expect you
- 1:53:41to be gone for three days, right?
- 1:53:44They'll be still in there after three days, you know?
- 1:53:46So maybe say something and be like oh.
- 1:53:48Hey now, now if. I'm still in.
- 1:53:50Here I had a student come into my class one day.
- 1:53:53I looked at her. I'm like, what did you take my
- 1:53:55class like a year or two ago? So yeah, two years ago I said,
- 1:54:00did you fail? And she's like, no, she says I,
- 1:54:03well, I failed, yeah. But I I was in the car, I was in
- 1:54:05a coma for three months and the class ended like.
- 1:54:12One day. Nobody reached out to the school
- 1:54:14on your behalf to tell them I'm in a coma, right?
- 1:54:17Like you. You call me, I'll give an
- 1:54:20incomplete. Hopefully you wake up before
- 1:54:22those four months, right? Just like no one called.
- 1:54:30I don't understand this concept, right?
- 1:54:32If something would happen to you, right, and you can't go to
- 1:54:35work or to school, I would reach out on your behalf.
- 1:54:39That's the courtesy thing to do. I would think so.
- 1:54:42Right. And if you're in a coma?
- 1:54:43Then obviously you'd be like, hey, yeah, my son won't be going
- 1:54:47to school for a while, right? He's in a coma.
- 1:54:50Yeah. That I would.
- 1:54:52I wouldn't mind saying why I'm in the hospital.
- 1:54:55Well, to explain to my teachers. You can like, for example, you
- 1:55:00can be generic. You don't have to say specifics.
- 1:55:02Oh, yeah. You know, he broke his leg.
- 1:55:03OK, well, he's getting casted. He'll come back tomorrow.
- 1:55:05Oh, no, they had to have surgery.
- 1:55:07Put pins in it. He has, you know.
- 1:55:09Then yeah, they don't. They don't understand and
- 1:55:11they're still trying to get me. Back to if you say something
- 1:55:14minor like, oh it's a broken leg, no, it's a shattered leg
- 1:55:16and he'll never walk again. Yeah, I'm a come back different
- 1:55:20in a wheelchair. You know, little different, but
- 1:55:22anyway, you know, it's up to you what you want to tell your boss.
- 1:55:26Remember that it's not something you have to do, OK?
- 1:55:29It's something you want to do. That is true.
- 1:55:33OK, but letting them know you're out is something that you have
- 1:55:38to do, OK. The specifics, not so much.
- 1:55:42Anyway, I think that's it for today, Connor.
- 1:55:43What do you think? Yeah, I think so too.
- 1:55:46You think so too. Yeah.
- 1:55:48So next week we will see you. We will be back, OK, and.
- 1:55:59What? What episode are we on?
- 1:56:01Well, next week's 58 and don't ask me what the episode is
- 1:56:04usually on my head and I I never talked about that.
- 1:56:06I just wanted to know the number.
- 1:56:08That's why I was like when I was trying to change the title for
- 1:56:11trivia and bingo. Yeah, I was like, it's 57, but
- 1:56:15it doesn't feel like 57. Yeah, we need to change it.
- 1:56:18But all right, you know, that's it for today.
