Latest / The Next Round / The Next Round: Lane Kiffin vs. the SEC, Alabama’s Talent Question & College Football Is Back
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome in to a new Sport and State, the next
- 0:02Speaker 1: round by Hard Rock Bets. As we roll on today,
- 0:05Speaker 1: Jim Dunaway, Lance Taylor, Ryan Brown, all the guys behind
- 0:08Speaker 1: the glass today. A lot to get to. Coming up
- 0:11Speaker 1: in our next round part of the show, final three,
- 0:14Speaker 1: hours three and four, after we get off Sports State here,
- 0:17Speaker 1: we'll do a buy or sell on college football. But
- 0:19Speaker 1: here over the next two hours on this platform, man,
- 0:22Speaker 1: we've got a lot to talk about, including some actual
- 0:25Speaker 1: games on the field. We'll get to the off-the-court stuff
- 0:27Speaker 1: here in a second. Also, ESPN's got the top 100
- 0:30Speaker 1: players and some watch lists for some college football awards.
- 0:34Speaker 1: A glaring, a glaring omission high in those rankings coming
- 0:40Speaker 1: up on the show as well. And some positive Alabama
- 0:42Speaker 1: injury news, all that to get to as we get going.
- 0:45Speaker 1: But it is becoming very evident that Lane Kiffin is
- 0:50Speaker 1: drifting out on an island on his own. We're heading
- 0:53Speaker 1: for a Kiffin SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey's showdown at some point,
- 0:57Speaker 1: like the OK Corral, because Kiffin yesterday on the McAfee
- 1:00Speaker 1: show saying, man, you can't just pick which court orders
- 1:03Speaker 1: you're going to abide by and not abide to. But
- 1:05Speaker 1: last night, the SEC's presidents and chancellors, according to reports,
- 1:10Speaker 1: a 16-0 vote, which means the LSU handpicked governor, president,
- 1:15Speaker 1: chancellor guy, voted against his own football coach when it
- 1:18Speaker 1: comes to NFL players.
- 1:19Speaker 2: This is interesting because your governor is his boss, and
- 1:23Speaker 2: that governor is obviously a huge LSU fan, right?
- 1:26Speaker 1: We've learned that.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah, look, and back to Kiffin's comments yesterday, hey, I'm
- 1:30Speaker 2: either coaching or I'm coaching against him. I get that,
- 1:33Speaker 2: but let's be sensible on some of this stuff. And
- 1:36Speaker 2: we kind of talked about it and alluded yesterday with
- 1:38Speaker 2: the Big Ten doing this. The SEC was probably going
- 1:40Speaker 2: to quickly jump on board with, What is amazing about
- 1:43Speaker 2: this is Lane Kiffin is in the middle of three
- 1:46Speaker 2: massive controversies as LSU's coach, and he's yet to coach
- 1:50Speaker 2: a game.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Almost all at once, too, right?
- 1:53Speaker 2: Well, I mean, you go from the way he left
- 1:55Speaker 2: Ole Miss.
- 1:56Speaker 1: That's right.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Was it a magazine article this past year on the recruiting?
- 2:00Speaker 1: Vanity Fair, right?
- 2:01Speaker 3: Yeah, Vanity Fair. And now this.
- 2:03Speaker 1: And got dragged into the Jaden Daniels. None of his fault, really,
- 2:07Speaker 1: but he got dragged into that one.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I mean, if I'm an LSU fan, I'm ready to
- 2:11Speaker 2: kick this thing off.
- 2:12Speaker 1: No doubt. And then they go and lose to Clemson.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Clemson cannot get here quick enough. And what's even more
- 2:17Speaker 1: concerning for Lane and LSU right now is CBS Sports
- 2:20Speaker 1: reporting yesterday that their sources tell them that LSU staff members,
- 2:27Speaker 1: maybe even Lane in one situation, encourage these players to
- 2:31Speaker 1: sue the NCAA to come back from the NFL to college,
- 2:34Speaker 1: which is in direct violation of NCAA rules. So the
- 2:38Speaker 1: question comes, will there be penalties down the road? And yesterday,
- 2:42Speaker 1: Daquan Wright cleared waivers, as everyone expected him to do.
- 2:46Speaker 1: So he's cleared to come. So we'll see what Lane
- 2:50Speaker 1: Kiffin at LSU does next. Everything ends up in court.
- 2:53Speaker 1: But if you missed it yesterday, the SEC— joined the
- 2:57Speaker 1: Big 12, they adopted an NFL-NBA plan to keep players
- 3:01Speaker 1: from coming. If you declare for the NFL or NBA
- 3:06Speaker 1: draft and didn't withdraw in the appropriate time, you're not eligible.
- 3:10Speaker 1: If you signed a contract or were rostered by a team,
- 3:13Speaker 1: you're not eligible. The Big Ten basically took care of
- 3:16Speaker 1: football before the SEC did. They'll circle back for basketball.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Notre Dame says they're all in on the SEC Big
- 3:22Speaker 1: Ten plans. The Big 12 and the ACC are expected
- 3:26Speaker 1: to announce the same thing today. Even the Sun Belt
- 3:28Speaker 1: has come out and said, we're going to adhere to
- 3:31Speaker 1: the plans that the SEC and the Big 10 announced yesterday. Well,
- 3:34Speaker 1: as we said on the show yesterday, the Big 10
- 3:36Speaker 1: doesn't come out with such a strong stance if they
- 3:38Speaker 1: didn't already think that Greg Sinke and the SEC were
- 3:40Speaker 1: doing it. Those two... while they may seem like enemies, they,
- 3:45Speaker 1: I think, always know what each other are doing.
- 3:47Speaker 2: They are drafting partners.
- 3:48Speaker 3: They're drafting partners.
- 3:49Speaker 1: There was no way the Big Ten was going to
- 3:51Speaker 1: limit themselves without knowing the SEC was also going to
- 3:54Speaker 1: do it.
- 3:54Speaker 2: The big brands need each other, but at the same time,
- 3:57Speaker 2: they're super competitive, and they're not going to give a
- 3:59Speaker 2: competitive advantage to one without the other having that. We
- 4:03Speaker 2: talked about it yesterday. If everything's equitable, it makes sense,
- 4:06Speaker 2: but you are going to have people that challenge this.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Daquan Wright is coming out and saying, hey, look, I
- 4:11Speaker 2: could have played in the NFL, but I was told,
- 4:14Speaker 2: you know, that I needed to clear waivers to get
- 4:18Speaker 2: back eligible at LSU this year. I could have had
- 4:22Speaker 2: a professional career, and I don't think we believe that.
- 4:24Speaker 2: I think he was going to get cut anyway. But,
- 4:26Speaker 2: you know, that's going to be the argument there. And,
- 4:28Speaker 2: you know, Will Wade on the basketball side is going
- 4:30Speaker 2: to want to fight this as well.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I was moving to that because R.J. Louise got cleared
- 4:37Speaker 1: and part of his TRO. to play at LSU.
- 4:40Speaker 3: He's a guy, St.
- 4:41Speaker 2: John's, right?
- 4:42Speaker 1: That's right, St. John's.
- 4:44Speaker 2: First team all Big East.
- 4:46Speaker 1: And actually played in some NBA games. Yeah. On a
- 4:49Speaker 1: 10-day contract. Well, he was on a roster. Did he
- 4:52Speaker 1: get in? I don't know if he got in the game,
- 4:54Speaker 1: but he was on the bench during an actual game.
- 4:55Speaker 1: It wasn't an exhibition game. It wasn't a G League game.
- 4:59Speaker 1: And he got cleared. And did you see Will Wade
- 5:02Speaker 1: when he walked in and out of the building? He
- 5:04Speaker 1: jumped on him and hugged him like he hadn't seen
- 5:06Speaker 1: him in years. Somebody in the chat said... He just
- 5:09Speaker 1: met him.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Probably so. Somebody in the chat yesterday said, I just
- 5:13Speaker 1: saw a video of Will Wade hugging R.J. Lewis like
- 5:16Speaker 1: he just got back from Vietnam. I mean, it was like,
- 5:19Speaker 1: it was insane. Feinbaum used the Strait of Hormuz yesterday
- 5:22Speaker 1: on his show the same way. And then there's... I mean,
- 5:26Speaker 1: just to throw fuel on the fire at LSU, LSU's
- 5:30Speaker 1: women's basketball team had recruited a young lady from Ukraine,
- 5:35Speaker 1: from the Ukraine. And then Kim Mulkey just this week
- 5:43Speaker 1: signed a girl from Russia. And the Ukrainian girl has
- 5:48Speaker 1: left the team. Because she didn't want to play with
- 5:50Speaker 1: a Russian girl? She didn't want to play with a
- 5:51Speaker 1: Russian girl because her father is a Ukrainian soldier. I mean,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I guess I can understand that, yes. And Kim Mulkey
- 5:57Speaker 1: literally said, you two could be sort of the poster
- 6:01Speaker 1: children to end the war in the Ukraine. And the
- 6:04Speaker 1: Ukrainian girl was like, are you kidding me? And she's
- 6:09Speaker 1: left the team. I love Kim Wilkie's sales job. Like, also,
- 6:13Speaker 1: you could average about– You.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Understand what we could do here.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Show them Rocky IV together.
- 6:17Speaker 1: You could average 18 and 10 for us as well.
- 6:19Speaker 3: That's not important, though.
- 6:20Speaker 2: What does the NIL look like in women's basketball?
- 6:23Speaker 1: Well, I bet for her it's as big as anybody's.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Do you think it's the same, like, as far as
- 6:27Speaker 2: what Dequan Wright was going to make on a rookie
- 6:29Speaker 2: contract for an undrafted guy in the NFL– He's going
- 6:33Speaker 2: to make more, obviously, at LSU. Do you think the
- 6:35Speaker 2: majority of major college basketball women's players can make more
- 6:39Speaker 2: at that level than the WNBA?
- 6:41Speaker 1: Oh, I think yes.
- 6:42Speaker 3: At the elite programs.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Okay, because the pie is only so much, and obviously
- 6:47Speaker 2: football is going to get the lion's share, and then
- 6:49Speaker 2: it's going to be men's basketball, and then I don't
- 6:51Speaker 2: know where you go after that.
- 6:53Speaker 1: What happens in situations like that on the smaller sports,
- 6:56Speaker 1: from what I've learned, is that Mulkey probably has– some
- 7:01Speaker 1: big money people who are fans of women's basketball.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Yeah, one dealership that's like, hey, I'm putting $ 5 million in,
- 7:07Speaker 2: but it's going all the way up.
- 7:08Speaker 1: There are certain softball programs that have that around the country,
- 7:11Speaker 1: women's basketball. I mean, you hope, what you really hope
- 7:14Speaker 1: is you've got some millionaire slash billionaire out there whose
- 7:17Speaker 1: daughter's a basketball player in high school, and he thinks
- 7:20Speaker 1: if I give to Kim, she'll get a scholarship, and Kim,
- 7:22Speaker 1: I'm sure, will gladly give that scholarship. I've seen that happen.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I've learned a golf team may have some specific golf boosters.
- 7:28Speaker 1: There's no doubt. I've seen it happen. It's just remarkable
- 7:31Speaker 1: that LSU... There's two remarkable things about what I'm about
- 7:34Speaker 1: to say. But I just said all three of those
- 7:36Speaker 1: sports here. Football, men's basketball, women's basketball. And they all
- 7:39Speaker 1: are doing... insane things it's remarkable that at the same
- 7:43Speaker 1: time they may have the biggest villain in all three
- 7:46Speaker 1: of those sports like I don't think there's any doubt
- 7:48Speaker 1: Kim Mulkey is the biggest villain in women's.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Basketball Gino Auriemma still I think people I mean it's
- 7:53Speaker 2: close yeah it is close I think people still at
- 7:55Speaker 2: least can respect what Gino has accomplished and he's going
- 7:58Speaker 2: into old man territory.
- 7:59Speaker 1: But he is a very oh he's very unlikable but
- 8:01Speaker 1: Kim Mulkey seems the least likable.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Yeah but you start to look at the numbers I
- 8:05Speaker 2: mean how many more does he have than Mulkey I.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Think it's a lot, right?
- 8:09Speaker 2: Yeah, like 10.
- 8:09Speaker 1: More, right? Yeah, it's a ton. Will Wade has got
- 8:13Speaker 1: to be the biggest villain in men's basketball, right? Got
- 8:15Speaker 1: to be.
- 8:16Speaker 2: I mean, Dan Hurley.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Yeah, but again, I think there's an element of respect
- 8:20Speaker 1: for Dan Hurley.
- 8:22Speaker 2: So it's either UConn or LSU. Well, I would say this.
- 8:25Speaker 2: For all of LSU, who's coaching UConn football right now?
- 8:28Speaker 2: Mulkey does. It's our man Jim Moore Jr.
- 8:31Speaker 1: right? No, he left. He's at Colorado State.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, he is at Colorado State. God, who is
- 8:36Speaker 2: the guy now there? Anyway, Mulkey has at least won
- 8:39Speaker 2: the hardware. If Will Wade and or Lane Kiffin ever
- 8:43Speaker 2: won a national championship, for sure.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Jason Candle, he was the guy from Toledo. Will Wade
- 8:49Speaker 1: is the guy, though, that makes it seem like everybody...
- 8:52Speaker 1: He recruits this way and everything. Everybody's against us.
- 8:55Speaker 4: That's right.
- 8:56Speaker 1: We're the villains. Everybody's against us. That's the way Will
- 8:58Speaker 1: Wade lives life, and I think it has... If you
- 9:01Speaker 1: look at it, really, that has not been the case.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Wade's been given several opportunities. LSU now twice. NC State,
- 9:07Speaker 1: that was a good job he took. But that's the
- 9:09Speaker 1: way he paints the picture of the world. Everybody's against us.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Can I at least get full agreement, Lane Kiffin, the
- 9:14Speaker 1: biggest villain in the college football world?
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yes, I'll give you that now.
- 9:17Speaker 1: But the most remarkable part about that to me is
- 9:19Speaker 1: I think Kiffin might be the most likable of those three.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin has finally found a place where he's not
- 9:26Speaker 1: the most hated person, and that's in his own coaching staff.
- 9:29Speaker 2: No, I think there are.
- 9:30Speaker 3: That's at LSU.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I mean, I think people hate Mulkey and Wade more
- 9:33Speaker 1: than they hate Kiffin. Yeah. I mean, they're given sports.
- 9:35Speaker 2: If you survey anybody that covers it, that watches it,
- 9:40Speaker 2: you know, I would say 9 out of 10 don't
- 9:41Speaker 2: like Mulkey and Wade. And, you know, it's probably 7
- 9:44Speaker 2: out of 10 now with Lane Kiffin.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I mean, Lane Kiffin's the most likable of that group,
- 9:47Speaker 1: which is remarkable. I would tell you this, that if
- 9:49Speaker 1: we could get honest opinion– if like we had ways, Alexa,
- 9:56Speaker 1: to listen into homes across America, your iPhone, just any
- 10:00Speaker 1: way to hear Americans in their room a week from
- 10:04Speaker 1: Saturday night prime time, how many people around the country
- 10:07Speaker 1: cheering for Dabo and Clemson to beat LSU? If the
- 10:10Speaker 1: map was able to light up all of the 50
- 10:14Speaker 1: states in the United States, either orange or purple during
- 10:17Speaker 1: that game for Clemson orange or LSU purple, How many
- 10:20Speaker 1: states would be cheering for LSU, excuse me, for Clemson
- 10:23Speaker 1: to win that game? How many orange states do you
- 10:25Speaker 1: think we have? I think all of them, but Louisiana.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I think Louisiana would be the one.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Every one of them.
- 10:30Speaker 1: And by the way, the same thing when Ole Miss
- 10:32Speaker 1: plays them week three.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Including me. You guys know how I feel about Dabo.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I'm all on board. Now, I don't know where I'm
- 10:37Speaker 2: going to play that game. Atlanta's locked yet, so if
- 10:40Speaker 2: I end up laying the nine and a half with LSU, then.
- 10:43Speaker 2: The story's a little bit different, but I fully plan
- 10:46Speaker 2: on sitting on the couch and pulling for Clemson.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Lance is going to bring his own guts that night.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I love crazy storylines, and you guys would agree with
- 10:53Speaker 2: all of this drama going on. They have set themselves up.
- 10:56Speaker 2: They are a target this year.
- 10:57Speaker 1: It's why all offseason I have talked about that game,
- 11:00Speaker 1: and I have said it's not going to stun me
- 11:01Speaker 1: if Clemson wins because I have watched enough college football
- 11:04Speaker 1: in my life to know the team that gets all
- 11:07Speaker 1: the attention, good or bad, all the attention... And the
- 11:10Speaker 1: other team that's just laying in the weeds and nobody
- 11:12Speaker 1: talks about them, that is a scary situation. Yeah, I
- 11:14Speaker 1: mean it's– and I wanted to bring this up here
- 11:17Speaker 1: quickly too because I said this yesterday on the social platforms.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin now has to, in my opinion, coach his
- 11:25Speaker 1: locker room because if you've paid attention over the last week,
- 11:29Speaker 1: if I'm the tight end, QB1 in the tight end,
- 11:35Speaker 1: not QB1, but tight end one in the tight end room,
- 11:38Speaker 1: defensive lineman number one, the two guys that he's been
- 11:41Speaker 1: working hard to bring in, it's obvious my coach doesn't
- 11:44Speaker 1: have any confidence in me. We're trying to get Daquan right.
- 11:47Speaker 1: If I was the starting tight end, he's out for
- 11:49Speaker 1: the last week fighting to replace me as the starter.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Those two rooms, the D-line room and the tight end room,
- 11:55Speaker 1: can't be all... peaches and cream right now. Lane Kiffin's
- 11:59Speaker 1: got to do some coaching on personalities to get a
- 12:01Speaker 1: little chemistry back in that room.
- 12:03Speaker 2: That was the initial thing that I absolutely hated about this.
- 12:06Speaker 2: It's one of the things that Dan Lanning immediately brought up,
- 12:08Speaker 2: Oregon's head coach, these other guys that have gone out
- 12:10Speaker 2: and sweated. It's one of the reasons, you know, it
- 12:12Speaker 2: always comes back to the L.A. Rams for me. It's
- 12:14Speaker 2: one of the reasons that I really don't want to
- 12:16Speaker 2: see Aaron Donald come back. It would be exciting. But
- 12:19Speaker 2: guys like Ty Hamilton drafted two years ago, a guy
- 12:23Speaker 2: like Tim Keenan III, one of those two guys is
- 12:25Speaker 2: going to lose their roster spot. One of those two
- 12:27Speaker 2: guys will not be on the Rams 53 man if
- 12:30Speaker 2: Aaron Donald comes back. And, you know, that's unfortunate for
- 12:32Speaker 2: those guys.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Yeah. And you like them for the future. You'd love
- 12:36Speaker 1: Aaron Donald for a year, but. those guys could be
- 12:38Speaker 1: with you for several years.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Well, that and the fact that what is team chemistry like? Like,
- 12:42Speaker 2: I'm sure everybody would be excited about 99 coming back,
- 12:45Speaker 2: one of the best to ever do it. But at
- 12:46Speaker 2: the same time, man, you build this rapport with all
- 12:50Speaker 2: of these guys that you're at camp with, and then
- 12:52Speaker 2: all of a sudden a guy walks in, the guy
- 12:54Speaker 2: gets cut.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Well, I mean, we talked about it in the Betty
- 12:56Speaker 1: Ako situation. Somebody's losing minutes in that deal, and whoever
- 12:59Speaker 1: loses minutes– Nate Oates had to deal with that now.
- 13:04Speaker 1: And I did not like the Betty Ockham. You did not.
- 13:06Speaker 1: You did not.
- 13:06Speaker 2: And juice wasn't worth squeezing.
- 13:08Speaker 1: No, it was not.
- 13:09Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think the Daquan Wright, again, I mean,
- 13:11Speaker 2: I know you kind of questioned where he was talent-wise.
- 13:13Speaker 2: I think he's a really good college tight end that
- 13:16Speaker 2: can make some big plays. But I don't know if
- 13:17Speaker 2: it's worth it.
- 13:18Speaker 1: I looked up his numbers because I, you know. I mean,
- 13:21Speaker 1: I knew Daquan Wright played in the SEC, but I
- 13:23Speaker 1: didn't really pay attention to Daquan Wright. And I was like, boy,
- 13:25Speaker 1: if they're going to all this trouble to get a
- 13:27Speaker 1: tight end, this guy must have torn it up. He
- 13:28Speaker 1: was 31st in the league in receiving last year at
- 13:31Speaker 1: Ole Miss. 635 receiving yards, five touchdowns. Among tight ends,
- 13:36Speaker 1: that was the third best. Stowers was number one, of course.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Rowan Jones at Arkansas was number two. I mean, third
- 13:43Speaker 1: best tight end statistically in the SEC last year. That's
- 13:45Speaker 1: a pretty good player. Yeah. I mean, is it worth
- 13:48Speaker 1: all this trouble? Probably not, but he is a good
- 13:50Speaker 1: enough player. ESPN with a top 100 list. We'll get
- 13:53Speaker 1: into that here in our opening segment on the next
- 13:56Speaker 1: round presented by Hard Rock Bets on Sport and State.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Starting next week during the Sport and State version of
- 14:04Speaker 1: our show, we will do something That involves our dry
- 14:11Speaker 1: erase boards. We will make upset alert picks on our
- 14:15Speaker 1: dry erase board where we draw the logos and make
- 14:19Speaker 1: a pick. And we keep running standings. We encourage you
- 14:22Speaker 1: guys to do it. This is just an example of
- 14:24Speaker 1: what it would look like.
- 14:25Speaker 2: That's one of your worst drawings.
- 14:26Speaker 1: For week zero.
- 14:27Speaker 5: Wow.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Well, we've always said those interlocking letters.
- 14:30Speaker 2: They're tough.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Like Auburn's hard to do. It's tough to get all the.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Normally your artwork's pretty spot on, though. That one's a
- 14:36Speaker 2: little shaky.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Mine is the worst on the show. Toughest part about
- 14:39Speaker 1: it is getting the spacing in the open areas. On
- 14:42Speaker 1: the inside. You know what I'm saying?
- 14:43Speaker 2: Did you go Daniel Day-Lewis, my left foot? Can you
- 14:47Speaker 2: draw with your toes?
- 14:48Speaker 1: Okay, can we pull up the actual North Carolina Tar
- 14:50Speaker 1: Heel logo, Tyler?
- 14:51Speaker 2: It's not close.
- 14:53Speaker 1: It's got to be close.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Dude, they would send these to Haiti if.
- 14:58Speaker 1: These were hats. I was staring at it as I
- 15:00Speaker 1: drew it. How is this not close?
- 15:02Speaker 3: I mean, it's close. Again.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I mean, you could tell what it is. Yeah, again,
- 15:08Speaker 1: the part.
- 15:09Speaker 6: Got a little too much spacing in the bend of
- 15:12Speaker 6: the C there.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I would agree with that. You could easily fix that, though.
- 15:17Speaker 4: And the top of the N goes out too high.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Well, I was making the top of the N go
- 15:22Speaker 1: out a little further because it seemed to be we
- 15:24Speaker 1: were really too close. I didn't think it would show
- 15:26Speaker 1: up good on TV. But anyway, next week we will
- 15:30Speaker 1: draw and make picks. By the way, I like North
- 15:32Speaker 1: Carolina plus the seven and a half.
- 15:33Speaker 2: I see that. It's gone up to eight and a half.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Has it gone to eight and a half? Oh, look
- 15:36Speaker 1: at you moving the line, Jimmy D.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I love that.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Give me eight and a half.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I mean, you do have, and he's very experienced, but
- 15:41Speaker 2: Jaden Craig coming in from Harvard. Like, you know, last
- 15:44Speaker 2: year we were like, how good is Matier going to be?
- 15:46Speaker 2: And it ended up not being that great. Now, you
- 15:48Speaker 2: had a kid from Ferris State that ended up being
- 15:49Speaker 2: one of the best quarterbacks and making the semifinals last
- 15:51Speaker 2: year and traded out Jambliss. But Jaden Craig going from
- 15:54Speaker 2: Harvard to the first game of the college football season
- 15:58Speaker 2: against what has to be an improved North Carolina team? Like,
- 16:01Speaker 2: I don't know how improved, but they got to be
- 16:02Speaker 2: better than they were last year.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I mean, it's Bill Belichick. Come on.
- 16:05Speaker 2: It's kind of Bobby Petrino.
- 16:07Speaker 1: It's got to be better. Now I know they're going
- 16:08Speaker 1: into that game with no general manager and no defensive coordinator.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:13Speaker 1: But Belichick may be calling plays at that point.
- 16:15Speaker 2: I would think that Belichick will take over for his
- 16:17Speaker 2: son defensively there. And, Bobby Petrino, what can he do
- 16:20Speaker 2: with Billy Edwards? Billy Edwards is a guy that's got
- 16:24Speaker 2: starts under his belt and was going to be the
- 16:26Speaker 2: starting quarterback at Wisconsin, started at Maryland. So he's got
- 16:29Speaker 2: a lot of experience. They're going to be better. I
- 16:32Speaker 2: just don't know how much better, good enough to get
- 16:34Speaker 2: inside of that number. We shall see.
- 16:35Speaker 1: First game of the year in the Power Conferences, North
- 16:38Speaker 1: Carolina and TCU, 11 a.m. on ESPN this weekend. Hey,
- 16:44Speaker 1: Hutton and Withrow on before us here on Sporting State
- 16:47Speaker 1: and Clay Travis, who's on after us. here on Sporting State.
- 16:51Speaker 1: All three of those guys will be with us tomorrow
- 16:54Speaker 1: night as we do our kickoff party, our fifth anniversary
- 16:58Speaker 1: show at Walk-Ons on Highway 280 with a lot of
- 17:01Speaker 1: fun with our friends at Bud Light, and all those
- 17:03Speaker 1: guys will be down with us.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Oh, man, I can't wait. I mean, we're going to
- 17:05Speaker 2: have so many people at this party tomorrow night. We've
- 17:07Speaker 2: got so many different things happening. Going on. I had
- 17:10Speaker 2: the opportunity to have dinner with our buddy Alexander Shannara
- 17:12Speaker 2: last night. He's bringing multiple bottles of Pappy out. He's
- 17:16Speaker 2: got some Nick Saban signed memorabilia that he's going to
- 17:20Speaker 2: be bringing out. He was like, you know, I had
- 17:22Speaker 2: some DeBoer. What do you think would go? But I said,
- 17:24Speaker 2: Alabama fans would step over, you know, DeBoer. To get
- 17:28Speaker 2: anything saved.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Kalen probably knows that himself.
- 17:30Speaker 2: But we're going to have $ 3 pints from Bud Light.
- 17:32Speaker 2: We're going to have $ 2 long necks from Bud Light.
- 17:35Speaker 2: We're going to have great food from Walk-Ons. It starts
- 17:38Speaker 2: at 5 o'clock, our fifth anniversary party. Tomorrow night, Tattersall Park, Walk-Ons,
- 17:43Speaker 2: live music. We'll also have Ubers if you need that.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Just ask us. We'll have QR codes. We'll hook you
- 17:48Speaker 2: up on that. So come out and join us tomorrow
- 17:50Speaker 2: for the fifth anniversary kickoff party.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Yeah, we know many of you are new to the
- 17:53Speaker 1: show on Sporting State. If you're anywhere... near Birmingham, come
- 17:57Speaker 1: on over. It is a good time. We hang out.
- 17:59Speaker 1: We have fun. We'll talk to you. We'll stay there
- 18:00Speaker 1: all night. All those people that are like, if I
- 18:03Speaker 1: could ever talk to that Clay Travis, if I could
- 18:06Speaker 1: just ever talk to him, this is your chance. Clay
- 18:08Speaker 1: will stand there and talk to you all night.
- 18:09Speaker 2: And the question I get the most.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Unfettered access to Clay Travis.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Is at what time will the party go until? And
- 18:15Speaker 2: I said, we have closed down walk-ons every year.
- 18:17Speaker 1: That's right.
- 18:18Speaker 2: So I just assume 9, 930. We'll stay there as
- 18:20Speaker 2: long as you need us. Rams kick it off tomorrow
- 18:22Speaker 2: night at 9. So.
- 18:24Speaker 1: So 8.30 for you? It's an exhibition.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I can watch first quarter there.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Great TV set up at walk-on. It's always a lot
- 18:31Speaker 1: of fun. All right, so ESPN.com has the top 100
- 18:36Speaker 1: players in college football this year. And you had an
- 18:42Speaker 1: observation pretty quickly when you walked in the room this morning.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Well, I mean, again, we were just talking Nick Saban.
- 18:47Speaker 2: If you go back to any of Nick Saban's teams
- 18:51Speaker 2: from second year in 2008 all the way until his
- 18:56Speaker 2: final year in 2023 what is one thing I mean
- 19:00Speaker 2: how many do you think you would see Alabama players
- 19:02Speaker 2: in the top 25.
- 19:05Speaker 1: 25 players in the nation I would say minimum three
- 19:07Speaker 1: yeah I think I remember one year it was five
- 19:11Speaker 1: of the top 25 I think really all you have
- 19:13Speaker 1: to do is look at the NFL draft and in
- 19:15Speaker 1: the top 32 players at the end of the year
- 19:17Speaker 1: frequently there were three or four One times six, right?
- 19:21Speaker 1: In the first round? Yeah. And that's your top 32
- 19:23Speaker 1: seniors or seniors or juniors there. So that kind of
- 19:27Speaker 1: gives you some indication.
- 19:28Speaker 2: So Alabama does not have a player ranked in the
- 19:32Speaker 2: top 35 in college football. Wow.
- 19:35Speaker 1: So times have changed.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, obviously. I mean, 35 guys in front
- 19:41Speaker 2: of the first Alabama player and that Alabama player, I
- 19:44Speaker 2: don't know if you heard me tell Dunaway who it was.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Well, you did. And I would have guessed who Dunaway guessed.
- 19:49Speaker 1: You asked us to guess who it was, and Dunaway
- 19:51Speaker 1: said Yonce Pierre, which would have been my guess, but
- 19:54Speaker 1: that's not who it was.
- 19:55Speaker 2: It's Bray Hubbard.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:56Speaker 2: And I don't have a problem with Bray Hubbard being
- 19:58Speaker 2: on here, but I mean, to be 36, the first
- 20:01Speaker 2: Alabama player, and I'm not saying that that's off. It's
- 20:04Speaker 2: just an interesting observation based on where Alabama is right
- 20:07Speaker 2: now as a whole.
- 20:08Speaker 1: I think what is more alarming than just Alabama is
- 20:12Speaker 1: three of the top ten are SEC. Only three of
- 20:16Speaker 1: the top ten.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, that's insane in itself.
- 20:19Speaker 1: So we've got 30% SEC. What's the Big Ten? Okay,
- 20:22Speaker 1: I'll give you the top ten. Well, I think other
- 20:26Speaker 1: than Notre Dame, the rest of them are Big Ten
- 20:27Speaker 1: or Notre Dame. Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State. Leonard Moore, Notre Dame.
- 20:32Speaker 1: colin simmons texas remember they're in the sec malachi tony
- 20:36Speaker 1: miami trinidad chambliss old miss uh q1 lacy old miss
- 20:41Speaker 1: cj carr notre dame julian say in ohio state jada
- 20:45Speaker 1: mayava usc and carter smith offensive tackle indiana it's only
- 20:50Speaker 1: four of ten uh notre dame is very well represented
- 20:53Speaker 1: on this thing so it's three of ten sec four
- 20:56Speaker 1: of ten notre dame or four of ten um Ohio State,
- 20:59Speaker 1: Notre Dame has the rest. No, no, you had Malachi
- 21:02Speaker 1: Toney from Miami, who should be in there, obviously, from
- 21:06Speaker 1: the ACC. That was the lone ACC route. If you
- 21:08Speaker 1: go down to 15, I think four of the top
- 21:10Speaker 1: 15 are from Texas. The University of, not State of?
- 21:13Speaker 1: Cam Coleman is 15th on the list. Arch Manning is 13th.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Trevor Goosby with that knee bruise is 12. I already
- 21:21Speaker 1: gave you Colin Simmons. And so four of the top
- 21:23Speaker 1: 15 are Texas players.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Longhorns. Point on Bama, only three in the top 100.
- 21:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Different times.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Different times.
- 21:33Speaker 2: I mean, does that show you?
- 21:33Speaker 3: Is Kalen Russell one of them?
- 21:35Speaker 2: So does this work both ways? Because if Alabama goes
- 21:37Speaker 2: eight and four, we talked about DEFCON 1 yesterday. Alabama
- 21:39Speaker 2: fans are going to go nuts. They're going to want
- 21:41Speaker 2: Kalen to bore out. But if Kalen DeBoer goes out
- 21:44Speaker 2: and makes a deep run of the college football playoff
- 21:47Speaker 2: for people like, okay, he is a great coach because
- 21:49Speaker 2: he's only got three of the top 100.
- 21:50Speaker 1: He's only got three players out of the best 100
- 21:52Speaker 1: in America and he's making a deep run.
- 21:54Speaker 2: I mean, you got to pick one or the other, right? Now,
- 21:58Speaker 2: people would say it's his fault that he doesn't have
- 22:00Speaker 2: that talent.
- 22:00Speaker 1: When you just started reading that Pete Golding's got several
- 22:03Speaker 1: players up there too. It's not just Texas. I heard
- 22:05Speaker 1: Chambliss and Q1 Lacey in that top 10, both of
- 22:07Speaker 1: those guys coming back. That's right.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Indiana's got players littered all over too. And I think that's,
- 22:12Speaker 2: what's interesting. Indiana, did you ever think you would see
- 22:15Speaker 2: a top 100 list where Indiana's got more players in Alabama,
- 22:19Speaker 2: more players.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Than almost anybody. Yeah. Uh, LT has, uh, eight crystal
- 22:23Speaker 1: ball stats that we'll do later in the show. That's
- 22:26Speaker 1: going to, uh, maybe help eight SEC contenders if they
- 22:30Speaker 1: can hit that mark. You'll want to see that to
- 22:32Speaker 1: see where your team is. Another sign of the times,
- 22:34Speaker 1: we've got odds out on the Bolitnikoff Award goes to
- 22:37Speaker 1: the best wide receiver in the game, and the O'Brien Award, right?
- 22:41Speaker 1: Is that the other one?
- 22:42Speaker 2: The O'Davy. Yeah, Davy O'Brien.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Davy O'Brien. Davy O'Brien Award, which is one of the
- 22:46Speaker 1: quarterback awards that go out there. The Bolitnikoff Award, does
- 22:52Speaker 1: it go to anybody other than Jeremiah Smith? Who can
- 22:54Speaker 1: beat Jeremiah Smith? It's going to be hard.
- 22:56Speaker 2: It's going to be hard.
- 22:57Speaker 1: I think Malachi Tony could.
- 22:58Speaker 2: He could. Because, you know, although it's supposed to be
- 23:01Speaker 2: all about the best receiver, I think Malachi Tony is
- 23:04Speaker 2: going to be able to wow with some of the returns, which,
- 23:07Speaker 2: you know, if it's an even race and both of
- 23:09Speaker 2: those teams are 11-1 and they're, you know, both top
- 23:11Speaker 2: five teams, I could see Tony maybe get the push,
- 23:15Speaker 2: you know, based on the fact that everybody thought it
- 23:17Speaker 2: was Jeremiah Smith to lose. But in that Ryan Day
- 23:20Speaker 2: system with Julian Sayen coming back, no Cornell Tate, although
- 23:24Speaker 2: I think Chris Henry Jr. is going to get a
- 23:26Speaker 2: lot of touches. Jeremiah Smith's numbers could be– I don't
- 23:29Speaker 2: know what the best number is ever for a receiver.
- 23:31Speaker 2: I would just immediately say Devontae Smith. But that was
- 23:34Speaker 2: only a 10-game schedule. Maybe Larry Fitzgerald, that Pittsburgh year
- 23:39Speaker 2: where he was the runner-up with the Heisman.
- 23:41Speaker 1: But if you factor in the playoffs and the SEC
- 23:43Speaker 1: championship game, that's 13 for Devontae. I mean, Devontae had
- 23:47Speaker 1: remarkable numbers.
- 23:48Speaker 2: But now Ohio State could play 16 games. He could shatter.
- 23:53Speaker 2: He could shatter all the single season records, I think.
- 23:58Speaker 1: And again, I don't know what those are. I'm looking
- 24:00Speaker 1: it up. Receiving yards, NCAA.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Well, I would just look at it, you know.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Single season.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Catches, yards, and touchdowns. You know, the three big.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Single season is a guy I don't even remember. I'll
- 24:10Speaker 1: give you the name and everything in my wallet if
- 24:13Speaker 1: you can tell me where he played. Trevor Inslee. Trevor Inslee,
- 24:17Speaker 1: he played, gosh, that was... Is this Division I? It is.
- 24:22Speaker 1: This is most catches, you said? No, this is most
- 24:24Speaker 1: receiving yards. You do not qualify, because I can't tell
- 24:29Speaker 1: if you're Googling or not. Is it North Texas? It
- 24:31Speaker 1: is not North Texas. 2,060 receiving yards for this team.
- 24:36Speaker 1: 2,060 receiving yards. That was back during Timmy Chang's Hawaii team.
- 24:40Speaker 1: You would think so, but no.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Western Kentucky.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Nevada. 1999, Nevada. Trevor Inslee. Never heard of the guy.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Troy Edwards is number two at 1996. Now, I remember
- 24:49Speaker 1: him playing. I saw him play at Louisiana Tech. Tim Rattay. Yeah. Crabtree,
- 24:52Speaker 1: third of your major colleges at 1,962 yards in 2007
- 24:57Speaker 1: for Texas Tech. Crazy.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Well, right now, I mean, there's only two receivers in there,
- 25:02Speaker 2: Jeremiah Smith and Malachi Toney, that have single-digit odds as
- 25:07Speaker 2: far as, like, the shortest odds to win the bulletin
- 25:09Speaker 2: cuff right now. Jeremiah Smith, 5-2, so plus 250. Malachi Toney, 7-1.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Then a former Auburn Tiger is third on the Blutnikoff list.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Who? Cam Coleman. 10-1. I was doing a little Florida
- 25:22Speaker 1: State pre-scout last night. Singleton's going to be pretty darn
- 25:25Speaker 1: good down there. Well, I felt the same thing at Auburn.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Not Florida State, Florida.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Ziegels Robinson is going to be really good at Florida State.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Ziegels Robinson at Florida State, yeah, but Singleton at Florida.
- 25:33Speaker 1: I felt the same thing at Auburn. I remember last year,
- 25:35Speaker 1: and people called me nuts. I was like, at the
- 25:37Speaker 1: end of the year, Singleton will have Auburn's best receiving numbers. Yeah,
- 25:40Speaker 1: I was diving in on Philo. Philo is the quarterback
- 25:43Speaker 1: down there, and that receiving core is pretty well stacked.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Yeah, guess who's not on this list? There's probably 25
- 25:50Speaker 2: guys listed with odds to win the Boletnikoff this year,
- 25:53Speaker 2: and one of those guys is not Singleton.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Complimentary. Complimentary.
- 25:59Speaker 2: I mean, Deuce Robinson is fifth here for Florida State
- 26:02Speaker 2: coming over from USC. That's pretty crazy.
- 26:05Speaker 1: More college football to get to on the show as
- 26:07Speaker 1: we roll on here on the next round, presented by
- 26:10Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bets on Sport and State. When we come back,
- 26:13Speaker 1: a little tribute to Dolly Parton. We'll say some nice
- 26:16Speaker 1: things about one of the great American heroes. You could
- 26:21Speaker 1: just say American icon. She did a lot of good
- 26:25Speaker 1: in the world. We'll talk about that and maybe LT's
- 26:27Speaker 1: favorite national day today as well. And a little NFL
- 26:31Speaker 1: camp news, all that in the next segment right here
- 26:33Speaker 1: on The Next Round, presented by Hard Rock Bets. We've
- 26:36Speaker 1: got the whiteout game official now. USC at Penn State,
- 26:40Speaker 1: primetime October 10th on NBC. Wow, I did not know
- 26:45Speaker 1: that they've... That announcement came yesterday. The start time is
- 26:49Speaker 1: prime time. That announcement also came because I had thought
- 26:53Speaker 1: that would potentially be the Fox big noon, which would
- 26:56Speaker 1: be bad news for USC traveling cross country and having
- 26:59Speaker 1: to play an early body clock game. Probably USC would
- 27:03Speaker 1: prefer not to play in the whiteout atmosphere, but I
- 27:05Speaker 1: think Lincoln Riley would take the prime time game over
- 27:08Speaker 1: having to play that early game.
- 27:08Speaker 2: A thousand percent.
- 27:09Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:10Speaker 2: This is really good news for USC because that is,
- 27:13Speaker 2: That's going to be one of those swing games. Can
- 27:15Speaker 2: they get to 10-2? And, you know, they've got, I
- 27:18Speaker 2: guess you can make it five really difficult games. Got
- 27:20Speaker 2: to go three and two in those games.
- 27:22Speaker 1: The show today being brought to you in part by
- 27:24Speaker 1: our friends at Perfect 10 Mortgage. And that name says

- 28:47Speaker 1: for Phoenix City, Alabama at the Little League World Series,
- 28:50Speaker 1: did it again last night. She got another big hit.
- 28:52Speaker 1: 4-2 win for Alabama. They get prime time action. I
- 28:55Speaker 1: guess that was Monday. They get prime time action tonight
- 28:58Speaker 1: on ESPN, 6 o'clock, as they try to stay alive
- 29:01Speaker 1: against Ohio. They've won three straight since their opening loss.
- 29:04Speaker 1: She pitched again on Monday, had six more strikeouts, some
- 29:07Speaker 1: big hits. That team now, it's an elimination game against Ohio.
- 29:12Speaker 1: There's another elimination game today, but they're still in the
- 29:15Speaker 1: hunt to be the American champions in Played for the
- 29:18Speaker 1: World Championship. That'd be hard to do battling back from
- 29:20Speaker 1: the loser's bracket, but she's been a stud so far.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and going back two nights ago, you know, they're
- 29:25Speaker 2: down 3-0. They ended up tying the game 5-5 on
- 29:31Speaker 2: five straight two-out runs. So, like, the way they came
- 29:36Speaker 2: back two nights ago and then, you know, pretty much
- 29:39Speaker 2: dominated last night i heard the the sports center anchors
- 29:43Speaker 2: talking about a monday they're like we think alabama's gonna
- 29:46Speaker 2: win this thing.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Oh wow so they're the betting favorite well i keep
- 29:48Speaker 1: seeing their games are always in prime time so i
- 29:51Speaker 1: would imagine they're getting a little bump in the numbers
- 29:53Speaker 1: probably from people wanting to see kenley the daughter of
- 29:56Speaker 1: a former major league baseball player both pitch and play
- 29:59Speaker 1: shortstop well.
- 30:00Speaker 2: You know the last girl that we saw win a
- 30:03Speaker 2: little league world series game was the monique moday davis
- 30:06Speaker 2: monay davis.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Yeah and she has now broken moday's records her strikeouts
- 30:10Speaker 1: and boy her breaking ball is incredible have you guys
- 30:12Speaker 1: seen it i have y'all watched enough to see her
- 30:14Speaker 1: break one off the table i mean it's i i've
- 30:16Speaker 1: just seen her at the plate i haven't but i've
- 30:18Speaker 1: seen it on social media and i mean it's like
- 30:20Speaker 1: uh see she's a righty right so it's uh it's
- 30:23Speaker 1: like the Three to eight. Most people believe this is
- 30:27Speaker 1: her last year of baseball and she will transition into
- 30:30Speaker 1: softball to then go on and play in the college
- 30:32Speaker 1: level of that. So they're not worried about her arm, basically,
- 30:34Speaker 1: because she's not going to be throwing breaking pitches forever.
- 30:37Speaker 1: So throw all you want right now. It'll be interesting
- 30:40Speaker 1: to see her choices, what she made. LT's favorite day
- 30:43Speaker 1: of the year may be today. It is National Dog Day.
- 30:47Speaker 1: National Dog Day today. Did you know that already?
- 30:49Speaker 2: I did know that, yes.
- 30:50Speaker 3: Did you wake up?
- 30:51Speaker 1: Did the dogs have you gift? Did you have gifts
- 30:53Speaker 1: for the dogs? He's got a tree up at the house,
- 30:55Speaker 1: a dog tree.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Chili got duck this morning, and Bullet got Memphis barbecue.
- 31:01Speaker 2: It's these different flavors, so they had a really, really
- 31:04Speaker 2: nice gourmet can of food each.
- 31:07Speaker 1: On National Dog Day? Yeah.
- 31:08Speaker 3: Maddie would not.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Let them sleep in the bed last night. I'm going
- 31:11Speaker 2: to angle for it.
- 31:12Speaker 1: It's National Dog Day.
- 31:13Speaker 2: It is National Dog Day.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Dog Day Eve, they don't get to sleep in the bed,
- 31:16Speaker 1: but maybe.
- 31:17Speaker 2: You know, we had this deep conversation at dinner last
- 31:19Speaker 2: night about unconditional love and just relationships and stuff. And
- 31:22Speaker 2: I was like, the only unconditional love you're truly going
- 31:24Speaker 2: to get, it ain't even from your kids. It is
- 31:28Speaker 2: from a dog. And that is fact. And that's why,
- 31:31Speaker 2: as much as I love Brown, I don't know if
- 31:34Speaker 2: I can 100% trust him because he doesn't love dogs. Yeah.
- 31:38Speaker 6: Dog not sleeping in the bed, that's a deal breaker
- 31:41Speaker 6: for me, personally.
- 31:42Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 31:42Speaker 1: What do you mean? Dogs sleeping in the bed you
- 31:44Speaker 1: don't like or you do like?
- 31:45Speaker 4: Oh, I do like it.
- 31:46Speaker 6: And if any potential partner of mine was adamant that
- 31:50Speaker 6: it wasn't going to happen, then.
- 31:52Speaker 2: then that's a deal breaker.
- 31:53Speaker 4: That would be the deal breaker for me.
- 31:55Speaker 1: I get it.
- 31:55Speaker 2: You know, the only thing is we've got two. And
- 31:58Speaker 2: so although you've got a king size, you get two
- 32:00Speaker 2: Vichyls in there that move around at night. They want
- 32:02Speaker 2: to get up. They want to piss. It becomes a
- 32:04Speaker 2: pain in the ass.
- 32:04Speaker 6: When you get multiple dogs, it becomes a bit of
- 32:07Speaker 6: a space issue.
- 32:08Speaker 2: She's out there right now shaking their head.
- 32:10Speaker 1: We have a stray that we got now 13 years ago.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Little Charlie. And on the show, he's known as Charlie Cockblocker.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Because if I ever... Hey, Maggie had him trained. Yeah.
- 32:24Speaker 1: If I ever try to touch Maggie in a husband-wife
- 32:28Speaker 1: kind of way, he growls. And if I don't move
- 32:31Speaker 1: my hand immediately, he bites me. So he gets to
- 32:35Speaker 1: sleep in bed every night. He gets a little outside
- 32:37Speaker 1: time about three nights a week. There you go. He
- 32:39Speaker 1: gets a little outside time. Lock him up, Jimmy D.
- 32:41Speaker 1: I don't want to exaggerate. Twice a week. Twice a week.
- 32:43Speaker 1: A little outside time.
- 32:45Speaker 2: I think there should be more restaurants that allow pups.
- 32:48Speaker 1: I'm there to eat. I don't need dogs running around.
- 32:51Speaker 1: But happy dog day to my dog, Angus, who's in
- 32:54Speaker 1: my house. Charlie, if you're watching, I still like you too,
- 32:57Speaker 1: but Angus is my dog. Favorite dog? All time. For me,
- 33:01Speaker 1: it's hot. The hot dog and Snoop. Snoop Dogg.
- 33:07Speaker 2: I mean, look, I love Chili and Bullet. Furia and
- 33:09Speaker 2: Lucy made a run. I mean, Lady Bird was like
- 33:11Speaker 2: the best dog ever. I think everybody gets that one
- 33:16Speaker 2: dog in their lifetime that like has that special connection
- 33:19Speaker 2: that you never get back.
- 33:20Speaker 1: I thought it was Baxter for me, but it may
- 33:22Speaker 1: be this little long-haired Dotson I've got now, Angus. We
- 33:25Speaker 1: are the best thing. I mean, everybody that has dogs
- 33:29Speaker 1: can relate to this. Maggie will take him on a walk. Now,
- 33:32Speaker 1: he's a long-haired Dotson. He's this big, and he's that
- 33:36Speaker 1: far off the ground. And in our neighborhood, outside our door,
- 33:43Speaker 1: the end of the green space is probably 150 yards away.
- 33:49Speaker 1: And I'll step outside if the time's out right, and
- 33:53Speaker 1: she'll let him off the leash. And the 150-yard sprint
- 33:57Speaker 1: that he runs with those short little legs, nonstop to
- 34:00Speaker 1: come running to me that he doesn't do that to
- 34:03Speaker 1: anybody else it's amazing to watch his ears are flying
- 34:06Speaker 1: backwards he's going so fast the hair is going backwards
- 34:09Speaker 1: and he's just you know he's exhausted when he gets
- 34:11Speaker 1: there because his little legs that has to be like
- 34:13Speaker 1: a 5k run for a little dot.
- 34:14Speaker 2: No offense to uh angus uh but the tesla brothers
- 34:18Speaker 2: both had dachshunds and one still got one and they
- 34:21Speaker 2: yap i'm just not a big fan of the dachshund.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Does he yap a lot he he likes to um
- 34:28Speaker 1: he likes to be outside yeah Lance likes energetic dogs.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Lance likes dogs that.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Jump on you. I like athletic dogs that are active.
- 34:35Speaker 2: I mean, I like that. I like dogs that are
- 34:37Speaker 2: going to jump in the pool.
- 34:38Speaker 1: That's right. You like wild animals. My dog will sit
- 34:41Speaker 1: outside and he'll just stare at sunsets off into the horizon,
- 34:45Speaker 1: always looks into the breeze so it's blowing his hair.
- 34:48Speaker 1: But if it's a boring day in the neighborhood and
- 34:50Speaker 1: there's nobody running by or riding by or walking by,
- 34:53Speaker 1: he will occasionally just throw up a little bark bark,
- 34:56Speaker 1: just two little quick barks. just to see if he
- 34:59Speaker 1: can get any other dogs to bark back. So he
- 35:01Speaker 1: stirs it up in the neighborhood. That's funny. And inevitably,
- 35:04Speaker 1: you'll start hearing another dog bark and then another dog bark,
- 35:07Speaker 1: so he stirs it up. But he's a barker.
- 35:09Speaker 2: By the way, Brown, people that are indifferent, I know
- 35:12Speaker 2: you kind of dislike dogs.
- 35:13Speaker 1: No, I don't dislike dogs. I'm indifferent.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Okay, well, I was going to say people that are
- 35:17Speaker 2: indifferent like the dogs that do nothing. It's almost like
- 35:20Speaker 2: a piece of furniture.
- 35:21Speaker 1: I don't want a dog that jumps on me. Absolutely not.
- 35:25Speaker 2: So I was watching the final part of The Dark Wizard.
- 35:28Speaker 2: I was telling Forrester, gotta watch it. So I finished
- 35:30Speaker 2: it up last night when I got home from dinner.
- 35:32Speaker 2: And it has, this is the first time they introduce
- 35:35Speaker 2: a relationship with his dog, Whisper. And I was just
- 35:39Speaker 2: waiting for the heartbreaking moment.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Yes, you knew it was coming, right? You don't introduce
- 35:43Speaker 1: the dog if something bad doesn't happen.
- 35:45Speaker 2: But the dog, so he's on a new trick. Now,
- 35:47Speaker 2: you guys have got to watch it because I'm not
- 35:49Speaker 2: into the extreme sports at all. But the bat suit
- 35:52Speaker 2: where you jump off the cliff and you glide.
- 35:54Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 35:55Speaker 2: And he's going 100 miles an hour, but he's got
- 35:56Speaker 2: that damn dog.
- 35:57Speaker 1: On it with him. The dog's got goggles.
- 36:00Speaker 2: And people are so pissed, like killing him online, social media.
- 36:03Speaker 1: So what was the name of the– Was it Spud,
- 36:06Speaker 1: the Budweiser dog back in the day? Yeah, Spud McKenzie.
- 36:08Speaker 1: So he's got goggles on like Spud McKenzie used to
- 36:11Speaker 1: have on?
- 36:11Speaker 2: Yeah, but this is legit, yeah. I mean, going 100
- 36:14Speaker 2: miles an hour with that damn dog off a cliff.
- 36:16Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 36:17Speaker 2: So anyway, Dark Wizard.
- 36:19Speaker 1: You'd love it, Tyler.
- 36:20Speaker 4: I need to watch it.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Happy Dog Day, National Dog Day out there to all
- 36:24Speaker 1: that celebrate. Georgia Bulldogs have a chance to be pretty
- 36:28Speaker 1: good this year. They do. Probably the best dog in
- 36:31Speaker 1: college football, the best– Dog mascot team. It's the best
- 36:35Speaker 1: dog mascot that has a chance to win a national championship. Yeah.
- 36:38Speaker 2: I mean, is there even another Bulldog?
- 36:39Speaker 1: Fresno State. Yeah, but the Huskies are a dog.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Mississippi State. Washington Huskies.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Yeah, they'd probably be second.
- 36:46Speaker 2: I think that would be second.
- 36:47Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Trying to think of any other contenders. Northern Illinois.
- 36:52Speaker 2: Huskies will not get that. We talked about UConn. They're
- 36:54Speaker 2: losing head coach, offensive coordinator. That's right.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Tennessee technically has a dog mascot.
- 37:00Speaker 1: That's right, Tennessee. I'd still put Washington in front of Tennessee, though.
- 37:04Speaker 1: I think I would, too. I'd have Husky in front
- 37:05Speaker 1: of Smokey. I think I would, too. Yeah.
- 37:08Speaker 2: It's close, but yeah.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Texas A & M has a collie as a mascot.
- 37:12Speaker 1: That's true. They got Reveille.
- 37:13Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 37:14Speaker 1: They're the Aggies, but they got Reveille, the dog. They're
- 37:17Speaker 1: probably in front of Tennessee and Washington for me.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Out of a technicality, I would put Texas A &
- 37:22Speaker 2: M number two.
- 37:23Speaker 4: Ugg is my favorite, but I'm biased because— I had
- 37:27Speaker 4: a Bulldog.
- 37:28Speaker 3: I actually think Bully is a better-looking English Bulldog than Ugga.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Oh, that's a hot take right there. So Mississippi State's
- 37:34Speaker 1: got the better live dog than Georgia does.
- 37:36Speaker 3: Ugga is all white. Bully's got a little bit of
- 37:39Speaker 3: color mixed in.
- 37:39Speaker 1: You know, I think I'm with Brooks on this one.
- 37:41Speaker 1: I think if you made me pick the Bulldog I
- 37:43Speaker 1: like better, I'd go Bully over Ugga. Now, I don't
- 37:45Speaker 1: know where we are on Bully right now, Mississippi State,
- 37:48Speaker 1: but the last one I saw in person live of him,
- 37:51Speaker 1: he looked to be in better shape than the Georgia Bulldog.
- 37:53Speaker 2: A little thinner?
- 37:54Speaker 1: A little thinner, like he's ready to get into a fight.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think Ugga's always been overindulged, right? He
- 38:01Speaker 2: lays on ice.
- 38:02Speaker 3: He puts his balls up on ice.
- 38:04Speaker 4: That's how English Bulldogs are.
- 38:06Speaker 6: I'm looking at Bully now, and Bully looks like a
- 38:09Speaker 6: more old English Bulldog. A little longer snout, a little healthier.
- 38:13Speaker 2: He's different coloring, too. He's a lighter color, right? I mean,
- 38:16Speaker 2: Ugga's always got a little black in him. Bully's got
- 38:19Speaker 2: a little brown mixed in him.
- 38:21Speaker 1: He's such a dog expert.
- 38:22Speaker 6: Yeah, Bully looks more like my Ellie Mae.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Okay. I think I'm with Brooks. I think of the
- 38:28Speaker 1: Bulldog mascots. I like Bully more than Ugga. I'd never
- 38:30Speaker 1: really put any thought into this until Brooks brought it up.
- 38:32Speaker 2: But the Washington Husky smokes both of the Bulldogs.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I think I'm with you on that one, too. I'm
- 38:36Speaker 1: not crazy about the Collie at A & M.
- 38:38Speaker 2: You wouldn't like the Husky, though, because they are active
- 38:41Speaker 2: in the shed.
- 38:42Speaker 1: That's a good-looking Bulldog.
- 38:43Speaker 3: Especially down south.
- 38:45Speaker 6: You also wouldn't like Huskies because they're very vocal. I
- 38:48Speaker 6: don't know if you've seen all the TikToks.
- 38:50Speaker 1: You would like bulldogs. Yeah, they're kind of quiet.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Bulldogs are great. They don't do anything.
- 38:54Speaker 1: That's a good-looking dog right there. That's a bully.
- 38:55Speaker 3: Yeah, and their life expectancy is only like 8 to
- 38:57Speaker 3: 10 years.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good-looking dog.
- 38:59Speaker 4: If you get an old English, they live a little
- 39:01Speaker 4: bit longer.
- 39:03Speaker 1: So happy National Dog Day, and we lost Dolly Parton yesterday,
- 39:06Speaker 1: 80 years old. And the first thing you have to
- 39:10Speaker 1: say about Dolly Parton, away from her Grammys and Golden
- 39:13Speaker 1: Globe nominations and all that was, that she chose not
- 39:17Speaker 1: to be a billionaire. She gave away documented, not counting
- 39:20Speaker 1: stuff we don't know about, but what we know about,
- 39:22Speaker 1: she gave away over $ 500 million in charitable donations in
- 39:27Speaker 1: her lifetime.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Well, and just such an influence to so many women. Like,
- 39:30Speaker 2: if you go on social media the last 12 hours,
- 39:32Speaker 2: 24 hours, and it seems like 9 out of 10
- 39:36Speaker 2: girls are posting about Dolly Parton.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Yeah, not just women, though, LT. The giving... the giving
- 39:42Speaker 1: heart that she had. I mean, she was known as
- 39:44Speaker 1: the book lady. I get that.
- 39:45Speaker 2: But you think about how competitive women are and somebody
- 39:48Speaker 2: that is a Hollywood icon, that was a great songwriter
- 39:51Speaker 2: and performer. And normally women are so competitive. They don't
- 39:55Speaker 2: want to give a lot of love to another woman,
- 39:57Speaker 2: but everybody is like this. I mean, you talk about
- 39:59Speaker 2: salt of the earth, never heard a negative word about
- 40:02Speaker 2: Dolly Parton. I didn't know she was sick. You know,
- 40:05Speaker 2: having this conversation yesterday, you thought that it would almost
- 40:08Speaker 2: be a Betty White where she would make a run
- 40:10Speaker 2: to 100.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I think she is probably or unfortunately was now
- 40:16Speaker 1: probably if you go approval rating of celebrities, probably the
- 40:21Speaker 1: highest in the world.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Like I put her on some of our currency in
- 40:24Speaker 2: front of some of these politicians.
- 40:25Speaker 1: The highest in the world. And think about as divided
- 40:28Speaker 1: as our world is right now. If you can say that,
- 40:30Speaker 1: like I would say Dolly is was as close to
- 40:32Speaker 1: a 100 percent approval rating as you could possibly get. Like,
- 40:35Speaker 1: there's probably somebody out there that for some reason didn't
- 40:38Speaker 1: like her, and they probably are misinformed on the whole
- 40:42Speaker 1: reason they don't like her. They've just made something up
- 40:44Speaker 1: out of whole cloth.
- 40:45Speaker 2: No, it's a good point. Because I don't know why
- 40:46Speaker 2: you couldn't like Dolly. Because, like, Taylor Swift, there's a
- 40:48Speaker 2: lot of people that hate Taylor Swift. There's a lot
- 40:50Speaker 2: of people that love Taylor Swift.
- 40:51Speaker 1: She's polarizing.
- 40:52Speaker 2: But Dolly Parton, and I can't think of— She was
- 40:54Speaker 2: not polarizing at all. I mean, give me somebody close
- 40:57Speaker 2: in sports that's like that.
- 40:58Speaker 1: I cannot. Oh, there's not. Nobody— Nobody doesn't, you know,
- 41:02Speaker 1: everybody will be cheering for Clemson against LSU because of
- 41:04Speaker 1: everything that's going on this offseason with LSU. But not
- 41:07Speaker 1: everybody will be cheering for Clemson. Some people can't do it.
- 41:10Speaker 1: That's right. It's hard to find anyone. Dolly Parton wrote
- 41:14Speaker 1: the song, I Will Always Love You. Some may not
- 41:16Speaker 1: know that. And the great story was that she loved
- 41:19Speaker 1: Elvis and Elvis wanted to record that song. And the
- 41:22Speaker 1: night before Elvis was going to record that song, who
- 41:25Speaker 1: was the colonel or the general? Colonel Tom Parker. Colonel
- 41:28Speaker 1: Tom Parker said, you know, Elvis doesn't record any song
- 41:31Speaker 1: he doesn't own at least 50% of the rights to.
- 41:34Speaker 1: And Dolly Parton says, that's my song. I'm not giving it.
- 41:37Speaker 1: I'm not signing it over to you. I respect that.
- 41:38Speaker 1: He says, well, we're not recording it then. And then
- 41:41Speaker 1: Kevin Costner in 1982, I think, came and said, I
- 41:45Speaker 1: want to use this in the bodyguard.
- 41:47Speaker 8: 92.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Was it 92? Yeah.
- 41:48Speaker 7: Okay. Okay.
- 41:51Speaker 1: I don't think so. I think it was 82.
- 41:52Speaker 2: No, 82.
- 41:53Speaker 1: You're right. It was him and Whitney. Yeah. Willie Nelson saying,
- 41:57Speaker 1: I will always love you. He did. He did. 92.
- 42:00Speaker 1: And Whitney Houston is going to record it if it's okay.
- 42:03Speaker 1: And she's like, absolutely. She made $ 10 million off of
- 42:08Speaker 1: the sales of the Whitney Houston version of it. And
- 42:12Speaker 1: she opened an office building in a black neighborhood in
- 42:17Speaker 1: Nashville and and gave all $ 10 million to that area
- 42:21Speaker 1: in Nashville. All the money that the Whitney Houston version
- 42:25Speaker 1: of that song made her, she donated it to the
- 42:28Speaker 1: under-provided for communities in Nashville. Not one penny off of
- 42:33Speaker 1: that for her.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Went to Nashville driving up 65 last week for the
- 42:36Speaker 2: first time, and I guess they'd been around the Dolly
- 42:38Speaker 2: Parton like, Almost like a Buc-ee's, but Dolly Parton. I
- 42:41Speaker 2: forgot what they're called.
- 42:42Speaker 4: The Tennessee Travel Stop.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, has that been something that's been around
- 42:46Speaker 2: for a while?
- 42:47Speaker 1: Yeah, they just redid it.
- 42:48Speaker 3: Okay.
- 42:49Speaker 1: They just opened that one maybe a month or so ago.
- 42:53Speaker 1: You talking about on exit 22?
- 42:54Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 42:55Speaker 2: I mean, I just saw it, and then I saw
- 42:56Speaker 2: a couple of billboards for it, and I was like, damn,
- 42:57Speaker 2: does she have a new thing going?
- 42:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, whatever she touched turned to gold. Like,
- 43:02Speaker 1: Dollywood is spectacular from what I've heard. I've never been,
- 43:04Speaker 1: but I've heard it's clean. The food is good. The
- 43:07Speaker 1: rides are surprisingly good. The customer service is tremendous.
- 43:12Speaker 2: But I think it's only been three years since she,
- 43:14Speaker 2: on Thanksgiving, performed in the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader uniform. At
- 43:19Speaker 2: that point, I was like, damn, she's in incredible shape
- 43:21Speaker 2: for almost 80 years old.
- 43:23Speaker 1: I think she was 78, so I think it's only
- 43:24Speaker 1: been two years.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Did we get a cause of death?
- 43:27Speaker 1: Cancer. She had a very short battle of cancer, unfortunately,
- 43:30Speaker 1: and it was kept quiet. Nine to five, I heard yesterday.
- 43:34Speaker 1: I was listening to SiriusXM, Prime Country. That's my choice
- 43:36Speaker 1: on SiriusXM.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Underrated comedy, by the way.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Nine to five. And they were talking about how the
- 43:42Speaker 1: movie was very successful. Dabney Coleman, her, Jane Fonda. Very
- 43:47Speaker 1: successful movie. But the song was so popular because of
- 43:50Speaker 1: the movie that it was number one on the Hot
- 43:53Speaker 1: 100 and number one on the country at the same time,
- 43:55Speaker 1: which was fairly rare, I think, back then for a
- 43:57Speaker 1: country song to be number one in the Hot 100.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Before choosing Texas, absolutely. Yeah. So it hit number one
- 44:03Speaker 1: on both and stayed there for a little bit. It
- 44:05Speaker 1: was considered her biggest hit. I don't think anybody considers
- 44:08Speaker 1: her best song. It was her biggest hit. And a
- 44:09Speaker 1: lot of that was because of the movie's success, too.
- 44:11Speaker 1: I saw Julia Roberts in an interview as they were promoting.
- 44:16Speaker 1: It was a clip last night, an old clip, as
- 44:18Speaker 1: they were promoting Steel Magnolias. And Dolly Parton was in that.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Sad movie. It was in that. Absolutely sad. And Julia
- 44:24Speaker 1: Roberts was like, it was hotter than three hells, paraphrasing.
- 44:28Speaker 3: Yeah, they filmed in Louisiana.
- 44:29Speaker 1: On the set. And I'm sitting there. And I've got
- 44:33Speaker 1: ice packs on my legs. And, you know, somebody's fanning
- 44:36Speaker 1: me and stuff. And Dolly Parton is sitting over there
- 44:37Speaker 1: in that wig and makeup on. And she's got nothing.
- 44:41Speaker 1: And she's like, Dolly, it's okay if you, you know,
- 44:43Speaker 1: get some ice or get somebody to fan you or something.
- 44:45Speaker 1: And she was like, I grew up dirt poor with nothing.
- 44:48Speaker 1: And I've, you know, all my dreams have come true.
- 44:51Speaker 1: And I'm not going to sit here and complain about being,
- 44:53Speaker 1: about living out my dreams. And Julie Roberts was like, oh, okay.
- 44:58Speaker 1: And started talking. shoving away the people that were fanning her.
- 45:01Speaker 1: I'm good. She's like, I never complained on set again
- 45:03Speaker 1: after that. That's funny. So Dolly Parton at the age
- 45:06Speaker 1: of 80. We lost her yesterday and America will remember her.
- 45:09Speaker 1: A lot of people flying the flags at half staff today.
- 45:12Speaker 2: And I'll tell you, I don't think we used her
- 45:14Speaker 2: like Morgan Freeman does all these voiceovers. And that is
- 45:17Speaker 2: a very soothing voice. But Dolly Parton's got one of
- 45:22Speaker 2: the most, the sweetest.
- 45:24Speaker 1: That's right.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Like just one of those voices that would almost like
- 45:28Speaker 2: Put you to sleep.
- 45:29Speaker 1: I got to get to break here. But I did
- 45:31Speaker 1: see another interview where they have buried, I think it's
- 45:34Speaker 1: at Dollywood, a never released song that she recorded that
- 45:39Speaker 1: will be dug up on her 99th birthday in 2045.
- 45:43Speaker 1: I'll do it now. And she had joked with him.
- 45:47Speaker 1: She goes, it's really a good song. This was in
- 45:49Speaker 1: a Jimmy Fallon interview. She's like, it's really a good song.
- 45:53Speaker 1: And I've gone to him two or three times over
- 45:55Speaker 1: the past year saying, let's pull that one out. And
- 45:58Speaker 1: I'll put a different one in there because I don't
- 46:00Speaker 1: know if I'll be around to see it in 2045.
- 46:04Speaker 1: So in 2045, there will be a never-released, never-heard Dolly
- 46:08Speaker 1: Parton song coming out. Amazing American, Dolly Parton, passing away
- 46:12Speaker 1: at the age of 80. This is the next round
- 46:14Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock Bets on Sports and State. Great
- 46:18Speaker 1: news for Bengal fans. Jamar Chase's injury, not that bad.
- 46:23Speaker 1: A little hyperextension, but he said, I could have kept playing. uh,
- 46:27Speaker 1: in a little, uh, practice if it had been a game. Uh,
- 46:30Speaker 1: so no extended period for Jamar Chase being out. Bad
- 46:34Speaker 1: news though for Seattle, their rookie safety, Bud Clark is
- 46:37Speaker 1: done for the season. Something to keep an eye on
- 46:39Speaker 1: in the NFL. The, uh, exhibition week continues on, um,
- 46:44Speaker 1: tomorrow night as they do the final weekend of exhibition
- 46:46Speaker 1: games in the NFL. By the way, rivalry uniforms are
- 46:51Speaker 1: out in the, uh, next round version of the show
- 46:54Speaker 1: coming up in hours three and four. We'll look at, uh,
- 46:56Speaker 1: Eight rivalry uniforms. You guys judge them for me, A, B, C, D,
- 47:00Speaker 1: or F. And it's the uniforms you can only wear once.
- 47:05Speaker 1: And I think the Bears, they'll wear it on Christmas
- 47:07Speaker 1: Day for theirs. So we'll look at those rivalry uniforms
- 47:09Speaker 1: coming up. Before we get to some more college football here.
- 47:13Speaker 3: Such a cash grab.
- 47:14Speaker 1: By the way. It's a one-off uniform every year for
- 47:18Speaker 1: the NFL. The show today being brought to you by
- 47:22Speaker 1: the great folks at Crockett Coffee. You can get it
- 47:26Speaker 1: light roast, medium roast, dark, decaffeinated, organic, even the mushroom blend,

- 47:35Speaker 1: it in the morning, they've got it for you. You

- 48:03Speaker 1: some good as well. Started by Clay Travis, Buck Sexton,
- 48:06Speaker 1: and Buck's brother, Mason, named after Davy Crockett, as you
- 48:10Speaker 1: can see in the logo right there. It is CrockettCoffee.com. CrockettCoffee.com.
- 48:17Speaker 1: That's Crockett, C-R-O-C-K-E-T-T, CrockettCoffee.com.
- 48:23Speaker 2: I did see that Davy Crockett... I don't know if
- 48:28Speaker 2: he really wore the coonskin hat.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 48:30Speaker 2: Him and Daniel Boone both.
- 48:32Speaker 1: Well, there were people, I think it was Whitlow, Hunter
- 48:36Speaker 1: and Whitlow here on Sporting State. They did a Mount
- 48:41Speaker 1: Rushmore of Tennesseans, and Davy Crockett and Dolly Parton were
- 48:45Speaker 1: on there. Oh, okay.
- 48:46Speaker 8: All right.
- 48:47Speaker 1: Peyton Manning? I don't know who the other two were.
- 48:49Speaker 1: I'd go Peyton Manning. Of course, he's not from Tennessee. Yeah.
- 48:53Speaker 2: I mean, Dolly Parton and, yeah, I guess Davey Crackett would.
- 48:56Speaker 2: I mean, who else would be there from Tennessee?
- 48:57Speaker 1: I don't know. I got to remember who's born there. Well,
- 49:00Speaker 1: I guess if Clay is your boss, you would put Clay.
- 49:03Speaker 2: We ain't putting Clay on the Mount Rushmore in Tennessee. Now,
- 49:06Speaker 2: Clay would put himself on the Mount Rushmore in Tennessee.
- 49:09Speaker 1: Hey, good news for Alabama on the injury front. Chris
- 49:13Speaker 1: Lowe on 3Sports reporting that A.K. Deer, and I think
- 49:18Speaker 1: we've said this on the show a couple of times,
- 49:21Speaker 1: will be back at the end of September in time
- 49:23Speaker 1: for that Georgia game. He's dealing with an ankle injury.
- 49:27Speaker 1: You've heard some loose reports, maybe did a little tightrope
- 49:30Speaker 1: surgery there on him, but an ankle injury. But they
- 49:32Speaker 1: do expect him back for the October-November part of the
- 49:36Speaker 1: schedule for sure.
- 49:38Speaker 3: E.J.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Crowell, not going to rush him back, Kalen DeBoer says
- 49:42Speaker 1: to Chris Lowe on 3Sports, but it's an ankle as well.
- 49:45Speaker 1: They expect him to be full go by the time
- 49:48Speaker 1: Alabama plays at Kentucky in Week 2. It sounds like
- 49:52Speaker 1: they could have him ready for East Carolina and may
- 49:54Speaker 1: choose not to play him in that.
- 49:55Speaker 2: This is getting somewhat dicey because the only explosive back
- 49:59Speaker 2: you had last year was Deer, and he was obviously
- 50:02Speaker 2: the small little nuances he wasn't prepared to play more
- 50:06Speaker 2: meaningful snaps because he hadn't gotten those yet. And you
- 50:08Speaker 2: were hoping that you could break him and Crowell in
- 50:12Speaker 2: against East Carolina, right, and get ready for Kentucky and
- 50:14Speaker 2: other what should be kind of a tune-up game for
- 50:17Speaker 2: Florida State. And as you get into this, if you
- 50:20Speaker 2: don't have Deer back until Georgia, like, is he going
- 50:22Speaker 2: to be able to be even productive?
- 50:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:25Speaker 1: End of September is what Chris Lowe is reporting. That
- 50:29Speaker 1: may give him time to get a game under his
- 50:31Speaker 1: belt or two before they get to Georgia, which I
- 50:33Speaker 1: think is early October, correct? By the way, Noah Rogers,
- 50:37Speaker 1: who we thought maybe wouldn't be back until very late
- 50:41Speaker 1: in the season, he also could be back late September
- 50:44Speaker 1: in time for the Georgia game. That's a remarkable recovery because,
- 50:47Speaker 1: and for those who don't know, he's the receiver that
- 50:49Speaker 1: transferred into Alabama. And a lot of people thought he
- 50:53Speaker 1: could compete for that third spot with whoever it is
- 50:58Speaker 1: going to be in that third spot that is not
- 50:59Speaker 1: Lottie Brooks and Ryan Coleman Williams. You know, there are
- 51:02Speaker 1: a lot of people that just gave it to Sedarian Morgan,
- 51:05Speaker 1: who is a tremendous talent apparently a five-star guy highly
- 51:09Speaker 1: recruited there are a lot of people and and anytime
- 51:12Speaker 1: kayla deborah has talked about um the receiver spot derrick
- 51:17Speaker 1: meadows name continues to come up the big six five
- 51:19Speaker 1: receiver so he's apparently had a tremendous fall camp but
- 51:22Speaker 1: i think initially a lot of people thought it would
- 51:24Speaker 1: be noah rogers and then he got hurt in the
- 51:26Speaker 1: spring and i think the expectation for a Maybe the
- 51:32Speaker 1: November games he's able to come back and catch a
- 51:33Speaker 1: few balls. Boy, if he's back earlier than that, that'd
- 51:36Speaker 1: be a heck of a gift. And Lottie Brooks is
- 51:39Speaker 1: good to go, ready to go. He could play Saturday
- 51:43Speaker 1: if it was good to go. That was kind of
- 51:45Speaker 1: what DeBoer had indicated, is that he'll be back. I
- 51:48Speaker 1: think it's one of those guys, you know what he
- 51:50Speaker 1: can do if he's a little banged up, you let
- 51:52Speaker 1: him heal.
- 51:52Speaker 2: I wonder how excited Alabama fans are going into the season.
- 51:56Speaker 1: I think the Keelan Russell announcement.
- 52:00Speaker 2: The reason I bring this up is I'm looking at
- 52:01Speaker 2: a fire.
- 52:02Speaker 1: I do.
- 52:02Speaker 2: I think it did this. And this might not be
- 52:04Speaker 2: an indicator of anything. But, you know, the first game
- 52:07Speaker 2: is East Carolina coming up. You get tickets as low
- 52:09Speaker 2: as fourteen dollars. And just looking at do you think
- 52:13Speaker 2: that the most expensive ticket for Alabama is a home
- 52:15Speaker 2: ticket or a road ticket?
- 52:16Speaker 1: Oh, it's easily a I'd say home Georgia. I would
- 52:21Speaker 1: say road ticket, Tennessee or LSU.
- 52:24Speaker 2: Road Ticket Tennessee is by far the biggest, $ 367 get-in.
- 52:28Speaker 2: Georgia at home is only $ 107. I mean, at Vanderbilt,
- 52:33Speaker 2: $ 229 get-in. At LSU, $ 242. Just these home games, there's
- 52:38Speaker 2: not a lot of demand right now. I don't know
- 52:40Speaker 2: what that means.
- 52:40Speaker 1: First of all, it means it's a 100,000-seat stadium. That
- 52:44Speaker 1: first game is Saturday at 11 a.m. And it's East Carolina.
- 52:48Speaker 1: What's the point spread?
- 52:50Speaker 2: Oh, it's massive. But no, but Georgia is only $ 107
- 52:53Speaker 2: in the week. A week later in a hundred thousand seat,
- 52:57Speaker 2: Neyland is $ 367. I'm saying there's just not a lot
- 53:00Speaker 2: of demand for Alabama home tickets right now.
- 53:03Speaker 1: So that's the Alabama injury report from Chris Lowe. We'll
- 53:06Speaker 1: talk about some other quarterbacks coming up in the next hour.
- 53:09Speaker 1: You'll hear from Josh Heupel on Faison Brandon, what he
- 53:12Speaker 1: did to win the job, John Summerall on Aaron Filo
- 53:15Speaker 1: down at Florida, Sark on Arch Manning, and Ryan Grubb
- 53:19Speaker 1: on Keelan Russell. We talk quarterbacks when we come back
- 53:22Speaker 1: on the next round, presented by Hard Rock Bets right
- 53:24Speaker 1: here on Sporting States. Our number two of the next
- 53:28Speaker 1: round presented by Hard Rock Bets here on Sport and State.
- 53:31Speaker 1: We're about to talk some quarterbacks in the SEC and
- 53:35Speaker 1: have a little fun with some sound from coaches around
- 53:39Speaker 1: the conference as we get ready for week zero and
- 53:42Speaker 1: week one. No SEC teams, right? Playing in week zero.
- 53:45Speaker 1: That is correct. That is accurate. Maybe a future one.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Maybe a future one. Which one is a future Florida State?
- 53:54Speaker 1: I would say NC State or Virginia, North Carolina. I mean,
- 53:58Speaker 1: we've only got one Big.
- 54:01Speaker 2: Ten team playing this weekend.
- 54:02Speaker 4: That's right.
- 54:02Speaker 1: That's USC.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Yep.
- 54:04Speaker 1: USC, get a little sneak peek at them on NBC,
- 54:07Speaker 1: 2 o'clock with Week Zero. uh 72 hours away from
- 54:09Speaker 1: those games so getting.
- 54:10Speaker 2: Really close that's crazy isn't it i'm trying to plan
- 54:13Speaker 2: out my set are you guys just all immersed on
- 54:15Speaker 2: the couch all day saturday uh my daughter has a
- 54:17Speaker 2: soccer game other than that yes i've got nothing planned
- 54:20Speaker 2: i've actually canceled golf because each window has a set
- 54:24Speaker 2: of games to watch as brett mcmurphy pointed out at
- 54:27Speaker 2: on three today saturday we embark on the longest college
- 54:30Speaker 2: football season we've ever lived in which is great for
- 54:33Speaker 2: me like that's not a bad news that's That's great.
- 54:36Speaker 2: The more the merrier, but this will be the longest
- 54:38Speaker 2: college football season we've ever lived in. You know what also?
- 54:40Speaker 2: We'll have the longest NFL season.
- 54:42Speaker 1: That's right, which is great for me. I'll take all
- 54:44Speaker 1: of that. I will send a graphic to Forrester here
- 54:48Speaker 1: for maybe the next segment. I think it was Crawford
- 54:55Speaker 1: with CBS maybe, or maybe it was Bud Elliott. One
- 54:58Speaker 1: of them put together the five Saturdays to not get
- 55:01Speaker 1: your ass off the couch. Okay. I would say it's
- 55:04Speaker 1: all of them, but I'll hear their five.
- 55:06Speaker 2: I'm going to believe September 19th is probably our first
- 55:09Speaker 2: of those.
- 55:10Speaker 1: November 7th, we all know, is the big one. So
- 55:12Speaker 1: we'll show you the other ones coming up. But let's
- 55:14Speaker 1: talk quarterbacks here. This part of the next round brought
- 55:19Speaker 1: to you by Hard Rock Bets here on Sporting State.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Let's start with Tennessee. The quarterback battle there ends with
- 55:26Speaker 1: Faison Brandon being QB1, Here's Josh Heupel on naming him
- 55:32Speaker 1: the quarterback. She said Faison starter week one. Do you
- 55:35Speaker 1: anticipate this being the long-term decision or is this a
- 55:40Speaker 1: week-to-week evaluation?
- 55:41Speaker 9: Every position is week-to-week. We named him the starter because
- 55:47Speaker 9: we believe in the work that he has put in
- 55:52Speaker 9: and how he's continued to grow and play throughout training
- 55:56Speaker 9: camp and the second week through the second scrimmage. He's
- 56:00Speaker 9: earned that right, but just like every position, you can
- 56:04Speaker 9: consistently value it.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Okay, so the Brandon expectations at Tennessee is what? What
- 56:11Speaker 1: do you need from him? Now, keep in mind, I
- 56:13Speaker 1: had the list yesterday.
- 56:15Speaker 2: It's part of my crystal ball coming up, by the way.
- 56:17Speaker 1: Okay, Josh Heupel, and we'll get that in this segment
- 56:20Speaker 1: because I'm interested to see those stats. Josh Heupel's quarterbacks,
- 56:23Speaker 1: help me out. They've been Joe Milton, Endenhoeker, then Joe
- 56:27Speaker 1: Milton again. nico and joey here's the here's the thing
- 56:31Speaker 1: uh you had to leave early on monday and we
- 56:34Speaker 1: discussed this all those quarterbacks that you just mentioned except
- 56:39Speaker 1: for aguilar were low single digit interceptions aguilar through 10
- 56:42Speaker 1: yeah and i don't know if this is on lance's
- 56:45Speaker 1: crystal ball but i think if you're phazon brandon that
- 56:47Speaker 1: is number one you got to reduce the turnovers 10
- 56:50Speaker 1: turnovers everybody when i say joy aguilar interceptions give me
- 56:54Speaker 1: the play you immediately think about It's the interception at
- 56:57Speaker 1: the end of the half against Alabama. And those were
- 56:58Speaker 1: the types of plays that frustrated you. Like they've got
- 57:01Speaker 1: a chance to go in and score right there. That's
- 57:03Speaker 1: a one possession game going into the locker room at Bryant-Denny.
- 57:06Speaker 1: Maybe it's not the best play call. You can argue
- 57:08Speaker 1: about that, but you can't make the throw Aguilar made
- 57:11Speaker 1: on that play call. And he throws what ends up
- 57:15Speaker 1: being a hundred yard pick six by Zabian Brown. Alabama
- 57:18Speaker 1: never looks back and you lose that game. that's step
- 57:22Speaker 1: one with Faison Brandon. You've got to get back to
- 57:24Speaker 1: the low single digits interceptions that the Josh Hypo quarterbacks
- 57:28Speaker 1: all but Aguilar have had. Yeah. That's number one. Is
- 57:32Speaker 1: his style of play, do you expect it to be
- 57:34Speaker 1: more like Hendon Hooker than Joey Aguilar? I mean, Aguilar
- 57:37Speaker 1: was a quick fix, right? They had to get him.
- 57:39Speaker 1: They had to have him, yeah. But this guy was
- 57:41Speaker 1: recruited by Hypo. Hooker they picked up where? Virginia Tech's
- 57:46Speaker 1: where he was before that. They recruited Nico Amalieva. So
- 57:49Speaker 1: I would imagine this, he's got a skill set that
- 57:53Speaker 1: the ability to run in that high pool offense, they
- 57:56Speaker 1: spread you out so much. And then you've got a
- 57:57Speaker 1: great running back in Bishop to have the quarterback as
- 58:00Speaker 1: an occasional, a willing runner. That adds something to the attack.
- 58:05Speaker 2: Well, and you also have, you know, Braylon Staley coming back.
- 58:10Speaker 2: So you've got, you know, really good wide receiver along
- 58:13Speaker 2: with Deshaun Bishop in that backfield. I don't know what
- 58:17Speaker 2: to expect. I just expect Tennessee to score points and
- 58:20Speaker 2: put up big numbers.
- 58:21Speaker 1: They always do.
- 58:22Speaker 2: It doesn't really matter who the quarterback is.
- 58:23Speaker 1: Tyler, a cut for now, please. If you can give
- 58:26Speaker 1: me Steve Sarkeesian. He gets asked about Arch Manning, where
- 58:29Speaker 1: Arch is going to this season. I really can't imagine
- 58:33Speaker 1: the pressure of being Arch Manning. And there's a lot
- 58:36Speaker 1: of pressure on Sarke coaching Arch Manning. But the two
- 58:39Speaker 1: seem to have a good relationship.
- 58:42Speaker 9: For a second-year starter, fourth-year quarterback, is Arch where you
- 58:46Speaker 9: want him to be right now?
- 58:47Speaker 3: Do you have any concerns about where he's at? He's
- 58:49Speaker 3: had a great camp, man.
- 58:50Speaker 8: I'm pumped about it. I think his rapport with Ryan
- 58:54Speaker 8: and Cam and Emmitt is really high. I think his
- 58:58Speaker 8: rapport with our running backs is really high. Those guys
- 59:00Speaker 8: are good players, and they can catch the ball. That
- 59:03Speaker 8: takes timing. That takes rapport.
- 59:05Speaker 3: I'm very excited.
- 59:07Speaker 8: I'm excited for him. I think he's going to play
- 59:09Speaker 8: really well. I we've got two more weeks to continue
- 59:12Speaker 8: to sharpen up, but I'm very excited for where he's
- 59:15Speaker 8: at and the type of camp he's at.
- 59:17Speaker 1: Do you really think Arch is sitting in New York
- 59:19Speaker 1: as one of the four finalists for the Heisman?
- 59:22Speaker 7: I do.
- 59:23Speaker 2: I do. And he is in my crystal ball for Texas.
- 59:27Speaker 1: Okay, coming up. Big stat there for him. I mean,
- 59:31Speaker 1: if he is sitting there, I don't know how this
- 59:36Speaker 1: Texas team is not. If he's one of the four.
- 59:39Speaker 1: At least in the semifinals, if not playing for the
- 59:41Speaker 1: National Championship.
- 59:41Speaker 2: It's going to be really difficult for Texas with their
- 59:44Speaker 2: firepower to miss the college football playoff. Now, a lot
- 59:46Speaker 2: of personnel on that defense that Will Muschamp will take over.
- 59:50Speaker 2: You know, there is going to be a lot of
- 59:51Speaker 2: attrition there, but I just think this offense is going
- 59:53Speaker 2: to be so good. You know, we know how good
- 59:55Speaker 2: Ryan Wingo is. We know the potential of Cam Coleman.
- 59:58Speaker 2: The two best backs, arguably the two best backs in
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: the portal, in Relique Brown and Hollywood Smothers, both went
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: to Texas. And you saw how Arch played in the
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: second half of the season. He also mentioned Emmitt Mosley
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: as that third wide receiver. I mean, it's just, they
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: have so much freaking talent.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: They really do, isn't it? A manageable schedule, relatively speaking.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: A tough schedule for Texas compared to their first two
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: in the SEC, but still not overwhelming. Down in Gainesville,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: John Sumrall on what Aaron Filo did to win that
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: job down there, a guy that they're really pumped about.
- 1:00:32Speaker 7: Yeah, I would say operate at the line scrimmage at
- 1:00:36Speaker 7: just a touch higher level and be more efficient. You know,
- 1:00:38Speaker 7: there's no surprise to that in spring because he had
- 1:00:41Speaker 7: been in the system and Trammell had not. Trammell has
- 1:00:44Speaker 7: improved a ton, but I still think we're able to
- 1:00:47Speaker 7: operate the full offense at a little bit higher level
- 1:00:50Speaker 7: right now with, with Aaron and, um, with the whole package.
- 1:00:54Speaker 7: And so that's probably the biggest separator. Their arm talent,
- 1:00:58Speaker 7: Edgar is very similar. There there's not like what's unique
- 1:01:02Speaker 7: is both of them is play style resembles each other
- 1:01:05Speaker 7: more than it differentiates each other. They're kind of similar players,
- 1:01:09Speaker 7: arm talent wise, running ability. They're similar ish, like on
- 1:01:12Speaker 7: the GPS numbers, they're about the same speed. Um, So
- 1:01:18Speaker 7: I would say it's probably the biggest differentiating factor. It's
- 1:01:21Speaker 7: just been being able to maybe get us into the
- 1:01:24Speaker 7: right call, out of the wrong call, check things, alert things,
- 1:01:29Speaker 7: kill things off of defensive pictures, and then maybe see
- 1:01:32Speaker 7: the middle of the field a little bit more in
- 1:01:34Speaker 7: the throw game. But both guys have done a lot
- 1:01:37Speaker 7: of great things, but that's probably been the biggest difference
- 1:01:40Speaker 7: is just operation.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: And that's because Philo came with his offensive coordinator, Buster Faulkner,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: from Georgia Tech, so he's been in the system. But
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: don't sleep on these Florida wide receivers. Burnell Brown, Dallas Wilson,
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: and Eric Singleton. That's a good trio right there of talent.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: And you've got one of the better running backs in
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: the country in Baugh back.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Yeah, Jaden Baugh, yeah.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: Singleton was also with Buster Faulkner at Georgia Tech before
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: he went to Auburn. So there is some familiarity there.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: And I thought he would have a tremendous year at
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Auburn last year. I didn't know Auburn was not going
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: to be able to throw the football to anybody. I
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: thought they were going to throw it to Eric Singleton
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: a lot and he was going to have a good year. I,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: I'm going to double down on it, Lance. I think
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: Eric Singleton will be a playmaker for the Florida Gators.
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: Should be, but I am not going to bite on
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: a Florida quarterback. I haven't seen good quarterback play for
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: Florida since Kyle Trask. And, you know, we got burned
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: on DJ Lagway, how good he was going to be.
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: I mean, almost one-to-one touchdowns to interceptions, 14 picks last
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: year for Lagway. So inconsistent. I don't believe in Philo.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: We'll see how good he's going to be. And if
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: he's really good, then Florida can be, you know, not
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: only a surprise in the SEC, they can be one
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: of the national surprises.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Can I say one more thing, though? It's interesting to hear.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: We've already heard it with Kalen DeBoer this week with
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Keelan Russell. You just heard it there with John Summerall
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: with Philo. And then also Hypel. Hypel. Thank you very much.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: With Faison Brandon. How careful they have to be when
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: they answer these questions. Because they know these are probably
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: all tight quarterback races. And the backup, the guy that's
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: the backup now, could be playing any time. And you
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: heard all of them just kind of tap dance around
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: so they don't make it sound like this was a blowout. Basically, guys,
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: I got two starters. I've just got to pick one,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: is what they're saying.
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: But I do think in a lot of those situations,
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: that's probably the case.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: It probably is. I mean, these were probably all that close.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: Here's Ryan Grubb, Alabama's offensive coordinator, on Keelan Russell's confidence
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: as a sophomore, listed as a sophomore. who's getting ready
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: to make his first start against East Carolina?
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: Well, two things with Keelan. I've always thought he's a
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: very confident kid. But at the same time, I think
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: there's people that present as confident. There's people that are authentic.
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: And I think that that's the part for Keelan, you know,
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: just stressing to him, just keep being yourself. And that's
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: really what draws his teammates to him is that He's
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: an authentic guy. You know, the enthusiasm, the confidence.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: Is all real.
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: And, you know, when he doesn't know, he's not too
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: ego driven to ask. You know, and those are the
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: things I think that draws teammates to him.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: So a confident guy and a guy who's not afraid to.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: And this is why I always thought it was a
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: close competition. He's not afraid to throw it into some
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: tight windows, which occasionally happens. will turn the football over.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: It'll be an interception. There's a difference between an interception
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: and a tight window when you've got to throw it
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: on third down or fourth down and just a bad
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: read interception that could cost you the football game. There
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: are some situations you've got to have the confidence enough
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: to throw it into a tight window to give you
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: a chance to move the chains.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: I don't know about you guys, but if you listed
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: one through four your concerns offensively, Kalen Russell would be
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: my least concern on this offense.
- 1:04:49Speaker 7: Yes.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: And in fact, LT, so much so that I start
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: wondering how much he can help one, two.
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: And three.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: Yeah, so I would go, and you guys jump in whenever,
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: offensive line biggest concern.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: That's number one.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: I would go running backs number two. I would go
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: wide receivers number three, and then I would go Keelan
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: Russell number four.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: I might, yeah. I said this back in the spring,
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: so much more RPO this year for Alabama than Something
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: they haven't done since Kalen DeBoer got there as much.
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: Wide receiver and quarterback go so hand in hand. So
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: this is a difficult thing to say.
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: But Ty Simpson was so much better than the receivers
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: last year.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: He was, but I expect Ryan Coleman Williams to have
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: a bounce back season. I expect him this year to
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: look much more like he played his freshman year. I
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: think Lottie Brooks, sky's the limit for this guy. I
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: think he can be fantastic. And I am almost to
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: the point, because I used to say if Sedarian Morgan
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: is what everybody says he is, this will be the
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: best receiving core in the Southeastern Conference. But I'm almost
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: willing to say right now what I've seen and heard
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: about Derek Meadows, some of these other guys, I think
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: they're just fine at receiver. I might even put that
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: fourth in Keelan Russell third. in my list well i
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: mean but again they go so hand in hand i would.
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: Go receivers third i mean i think right now the
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: big question mark is can't alabama run the football it
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: starts with that you're one and two you're one and
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: two are spot on to me offensive line and running
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: backs and again those almost go hand in hand.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: Um lt's got some crystal ball stats that could help
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: some sec contenders we'll get to that right now but
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: a reminder our kickoff party our fifth anniversary party kicking
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: off another football season our sixth season as a show
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: is tomorrow night at Walk-Ons here locally on Highway 280.
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: Here in Birmingham.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: You can go out and enjoy some great beer specials
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: with our friends at Budweiser and Bud Light.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: Yeah, $ 3 pints tomorrow night, $ 2 long necks. We're going
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: to have Uber QR code for you, get you home safely.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: The fifth anniversary kickoff party brought to you by our
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: friends at Bud Light, Alexander Shannara. Shannara will be there
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: as well, giving out some pappy. It's going to be
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: a ton of fun, live music. Great specials, food, giveaways,
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: everything tomorrow night, 5 o'clock until that's at the Walcons
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: Tattersall Park.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: All right. So to set this up, you've got a
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: stat looking into your crystal ball that if an SEC
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: team hits this one, their season goes much better.
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: I believe if these, I've got eight contenders. I think
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: there's only eight teams that realistically can get to an
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: SEC championship game this year. There might be surprises in
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: first year guys like John Summerall or maybe an Alex Golish,
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: but I believe there are eight teams that could actually
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: get to Atlanta first week of December. And if they
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: hit these marks, I think there's a good chance they're there.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: I'll start with Tennessee just because we brought it up.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: Faison Brandon has got to keep the turnovers in single digits.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: If you go back, If you look at the end
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: of the year and he has got nine or less interceptions,
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: I think Tennessee's in a really good spot. Jim Knoll's
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: taking over that defense. You've got a 1,000-yard rusher coming
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: back into Sean Bishop. Heupel's two best teams in 2022.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: I still don't know how they didn't stick the landing
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: and get to a 14 playoff. That team was so
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: freaking good, and Hendon Hooker only threw two picks the
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: entire year. And then a team I didn't think was
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: really good, but they could run the football and play
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: great defense was 2024, where they get to a college
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: football playoff, ultimately get blown out by Ohio State, but
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: Nico was your quarterback, only five picks. Limit the turnovers
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: in that offense, you win a lot of games. That
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: would be Tennessee.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: And the way they spread it out, it should be
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: some easy reads for Faison to help it out. Byron
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: Brown will be playing the same offense at Auburn, ironically
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: a respected defensive coordinator with DJ down at Auburn like
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: you've got now with Jim Knowles at Tennessee you don't
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: expect Heupel to to slow it down or play towards
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: his defense he's gonna keep playing the same stuff if
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: I could add to that stat Hendon Hooker had five
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: total interceptions in two years is crazy and and um
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: last year they had 10 so I mean you've got
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: to cut that number down I mean five interceptions is
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: two combined seasons It's nuts. They just did not turn
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: the ball over.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: When this came down to McIntyre or Brandon, I'm sure
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: that was what factored in the most for Heupel is
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: who's going to protect the football. You guys give me
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: another one of these seven. You can just call out
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: a team. Okay, let's go Georgia. The Georgia Bulldogs get
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: back to attacking the quarterback. I think if you look
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: up and they've got 35-plus sacks, Georgia, I mean, look,
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: they're going to be there anyway, but I think Georgia
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: is going to be a dominant Georgia team again. If
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: you look at last year, 20 sacks for Glenn Schumann's unit.
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: They gave up 20 sacks offensively. That is an extremely
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: low number. If you just go back the previous four years,
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: they averaged 37 sacks per year. If you go back
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: to the national championships and back-to-back years, Those two seasons,
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: they averaged 42 sacks per game. That's more than double
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: the production they had last year. And they were still
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: one of the best teams in college football. If they
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: can get back to the 35-plus sacks, this will be
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: a dominant unit.
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: But it's not just sacks, Brownie. Kirby Smart, when he
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: was in Tuscaloosa with Nick Saban, and he carried this
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: saying over, and he said it last year a couple times.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: It's not just sacks. It's pressuring the quarterback. You may
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: not get an official sack, but if you impact him,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: making him throw sooner, that helps the defense.
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: So.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: It may not be technically a sack, but at least
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: a pressure on the quarterback. That was off a little
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: bit last year as well. 20, though, but in their last— Yes,
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: it was.
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: That's a tremendous drop.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: 20 is a tremendous drop. Their previous low of the
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: last six years was 37. I mean, 17 below what
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: their previous low was. I don't know what happened. And
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: that's why I believe.
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: They can get it back to that 35 number, and
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: I think they've got the best opportunity to get the
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: SEC back in that national championship conversation.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Okay, Brownie, pick a team.
- 1:10:37Speaker 8: LSU.
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: LSU, they need to identify a 1,000-yard rusher. Like, the
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: last LSU Tiger to rush for 1,000 yards, any ideas?
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: I'd be very surprised if you guys can get this.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Jaden Daniels? Is that who it was?
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: Last running back.
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: Running back, okay. Last running back to do it is
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: going to be the... Fournette?
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: It's not Fournette.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: Was it... Clyde Edwards-Alaire in 2019?
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: Tyrian Davis-Price. It was in 2023, so it wasn't long ago.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: But if you look at LSU, or excuse me, Lane
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Kiffin's offenses... In Oxford. And those were great offenses. You
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: always had a 1,000-yard rusher. Three of the last four
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: years in Oxford, they had a 1,000-plus-yard rusher. Last year,
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: Caden Durham led the LSU Tigers with 505 yards. LSU
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: just averaged 3.6 yards per carry. You've got Harlem Berry,
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: who was a little disappointing in his five-star freshman season.
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: But between Harlem Berry, Caden Durham, identify who that 1,000-yard
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: rusher is going to be to complement Sam Leavitt.
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: Let's go Texas.
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: Texas, for me, it's simple. Road Arch has got to
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: be better. If you go back and you look at
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: Road Arch last year, Arch Manning on the road. Ohio State,
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: they lose 14-7. 17-30, one touchdown, one pick. Florida, they
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: lose 29-21. 16-29, two touchdowns, two picks.
- 1:11:54Speaker 6: Kentucky.
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: They win the game 16-13 overtime, 12 of 27. Twelve completions. Yeah,
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: zero touchdowns. Mississippi State, 45-38 in overtime. They win the game.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: All the numbers were padded in the second half with
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: that comeback. He was 29-46, three touchdowns, one pick. And
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: then the 35-10 loss to Georgia, 27-43, one and one,
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: one touchdown.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: One pick.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: Sacked 23 times last year. 18 sacks were on the road.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: He has got to play better on the road, which
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: I believe he will. You talk about the pressure on Arch.
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: I think there was more pressure last year, and it
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: really showed on the road. But if Arch can play
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: much better football on the road, Texas will, you know, be.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Really, really good. Oh, really, really good. That's a remark.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: I had not thought of that. But now as I
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: go back and think of all those games, I'm like, yeah,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: you're right. He was terrible on the road. The State
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: game is the one that looks good. But as you
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: said in the first half, he was awful against State.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: That was all second half yardage. So there was still
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: an issue there playing on the road.
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: They really shouldn't have survived either Kentucky or State.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: No, absolutely not. So fortunate to win both those. Pick
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: another contender, Brownie. We've done Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, and Texas. Oklahoma.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: Lance loves him some Sooners this year.
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: Let's see what he's got on Oklahoma.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: I hate to go back to the quarterback, but I will.
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: Mateer's got to be better.
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: If you look at year one in the SEC, and
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: we can say it was the thumb injury, and it
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: probably was, but the fact of the matter, his complete game,
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: dual threat quarterback, only 22 total touchdowns. If you go
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: back to his final year at Wazoo– 44 touchdowns at Wazoo.
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: Let's split the difference. If you can tell me John
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: Mateer has 33-plus total touchdowns, and I think that is
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: very doable with some of the skill that he's got
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: coming back and even adding. A guy like Terrell Harris
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: out of West Virginia. A guy like Parker Livingstone out
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: of Texas. If he can get to that 33 number
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: in year two under Ben Arbuckle, Oklahoma's going to be.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: In a great spot. It's more than double what he
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: threw last year. That'd be a significant improvement. I mean,
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: he threw 14 touchdowns last year.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: I'm just talking about 33 total touchdowns. Split the difference.
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: 22 last year total. 44 two years ago at Wazoo.
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: Let's get it in the middle. Let's get it around
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: 30 plus. And I think Oklahoma's in a great spot.
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: I'm not blown away by Arbuckle's play call-in. Well, some
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: people pointed at that as where material started to slip,
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: that it was less about the thumb injury and more
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: about Arbuckle got really predictable. The best defensive minds in
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: the country got a lot more tape on it. The
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: SEC team, once they got some tape on that offense
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: at Oklahoma and out of Washington State, they had it
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: dialed in.
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: I don't disagree, but you guys will also give me
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: a bad offensive line can make your play calls look.
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: A lot worse.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: They couldn't run. They were Alabama West. They just simply
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: could not run the football.
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: And when we get to Alabama, I'll get to that point.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: But Alabama had a better quarterback, and that's what bailed
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: Alabama out. I mean, if Ty Simpson had been playing
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: at Oklahoma, they probably are slightly better. Well, let's do Alabama.
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: Alabama has got to get up a full yard of
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: production on the ground. 3.4 yards per carry in 2025.
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: Saban's last year, they were at 4.3. The last national championship,
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: they averaged five yards a carry in 2020. Only Oklahoma
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: and Alabama made the college football playoff with less than
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: four yards a carry. The other 10 playoff teams averaged
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: over 4.2 yards per carry. If Alabama can get it
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: up from 3.4 to 4.4 per carry, Alabama is going
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: to be a great spot.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Can they do that? I don't know.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: That doesn't seem like a high bar, does it?
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Again, your two biggest concerns on Alabama's offense are offensive
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: line and running back. What impacts the run game the most?
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: Offensive line and running back is too big a concern.
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: So have they fixed that? Who knows? That being the
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: offensive line.
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: That is a pathetic number, though. 3.4 yards per carry.
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: But it's also amazing that Kalen DeBoer and Ty Simpson
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: were able to get that team. And I got to
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: give credit to, obviously, what Alabama did defensively. But 3.4
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: yards per carry is pathetic.
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: I will say this. I think, and think is all
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: I'm willing to say, I think Alabama has fixed the
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: running back room. Now, there's injuries there, so... You know,
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: that's going to impact that, right? But I think they
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: fixed the running back room. To your point that your
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: offensive line may have done a good enough job if
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: your running backs could hit holes timely with the right matter,
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: choosing the right running path, maybe the production would have
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: been a little bit better. Yeah, my point, actually, and
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: you're right about that, but my point actually was there
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: was an issue at running back room, and I think
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: they fixed it.
- 1:16:16Speaker 8: I don't.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: Don't know if they fixed offensive line. We won't know
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: until we see it. I mean, a coaching change there
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: is what they hope is. And there's going to be
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: some new bodies there, obviously. But some of those bodies
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: went on to the NFL. It's not like they were bombs.
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: They're hoping the coaching changes fixed it. Your turn to pick, Brownie.
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: I don't know what we're down to.
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: You've got A & M and Ole Miss.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: Let me hear A & M.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: A & M, I've said this all summer. Marcel Reed
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: has got to take it up a letter grade. He's
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: got to be better. Better than a one-to-one touchdown to
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: interception ratio against top 25, specifically top 10. You look
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: at last year against top 25 teams, six touchdowns, seven picks.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: If we focus on their two losses against the only
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: two top 10 teams they played to end the season
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: against both Texas and Miami, zero touchdowns in those two
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: games and four picks.
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, if Forrester had the Texas A &
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: M scheduled up right now, we could almost pick out
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: the games that Marcel would struggle in. because he seems
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: to struggle in the biggest games late in the year.
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: And this year, the ending for Texas A & M
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: is so hard, November Marcel has to be so much better.
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and unfortunately, there is going to be an excuse
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: if Marcel isn't. It's going to be Colin Klein is
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: taking over Kansas State, and you've got a new, you know,
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: and Holman Wiggins, a new offensive coordinator, taking over and
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: calling the plays for the Aggies. But Marcel Reed, there's
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: no excuse. Like Marcel Reed, he had the reins last year.
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: They had a fantastic regular season. They got to a
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: college football playoff. They hosted a game. But he was
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: awful in both of those games against Texas and Miami.
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: He's got to be better in those spots.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: He couldn't push the ball down the field either late.
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: I mean, his yards per attempt against Texas and Miami
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: were 5.6 and 6.1.
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: Awful.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: And then the last one is Ole Miss.
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: So Ole Miss was the number two overall offense in
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: college football in 2025. Trinidad Chambliss didn't start the first
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: couple of games, but in 13 starts, he had almost
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: 4,500 total yards. I think if he can just get
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: from start to finish back to around that 4,500 total
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: yard mark, doesn't have that sophomore slump, so to speak,
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: Ole Miss is going to be right there back in
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: the mix.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: One of the biggest storylines in college football that I
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: don't think anybody's talking about is the loss of coordinators
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: at some contenders. Oregon lost both of theirs. That's right.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: Ohio State lost their offensive coordinator. Ole Miss lost their
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: play caller, man. And that's a big storyline for me.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: Is it Joe Judge that's going to call play? That's
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: what everybody assumes. But, you know, in a sense, they
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: lost their defensive coordinator, too. I mean, I know he's
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: still on the staff, but he's the head coach now.
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: That's right. And I don't know that Pete Golding's going
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: to call the defensive signals. So, I mean, in a sense,
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: they lost both coordinators. Even though he's still there, he's
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: doing something different. See, I like Georgia. They got both
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: their coordinators with Kirby. I like Alabama. They still got
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: their coordinators. There's some of these we've lost some key parts.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: What can they do?
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: It eventually caught up with Clemson. But we saw year in,
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: year out, Dabo started to lose those coordinators. You saw
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: it with Alabama at Nick Saban. And, you know, some
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: of these programs can just survive. Like, I just assume
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: that Oregon's going to be fine without both Tosh Lapoi
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: going to Cal now and Will Stein going to Kentucky. But,
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: I mean, it is a point to look at. And
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: I do think this Ole Miss offense, I mean, the
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: great news is you got Kiwan Lacy and Trinidad Chambliss back.
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: but the identity seems so different.
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: Yeah, there is a nuance to calling plays. That's crystal
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: ball stats from Lance. Great job there on eight key
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: stats with eight contenders that could make them national champion
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: or conference championship contenders. When we come back, I don't
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: think I remember Vince Young's ending at Tennessee with the
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: Titans this way, but there's a whole Netflix documentary out. Basically,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: it's Vince Young versus... Their head coach back in his day,
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: Jeff Fisher. Pretty alarming comments in this documentary. We'll talk
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: about that next, right here on the next round, presented
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: by Hard Rock Bets on Sporting State. Netflix has a
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: documentary out, and it's involving Vince Young and Jeff Fisher,
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: and it's called Untold, the Testimony of Vince Young, a
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: documentary that gives you a behind-the-curtain look at the infamous
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: internal conflict between a young star quarterback, and a grizzled
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: head coach. Jeff Fisher says in the documentary, Bud Adams
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: was obsessed and consumed with drafting Vince. To take you
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: back then, Norm Chow was the offensive coordinator in Tennessee.
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: He wanted to go Matt Leinart with the third overall pick.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and I remember saying this and was completely wrong.
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: I thought they should have gone Matt Leinart too.
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: Jeff Fisher wanted to go with Jay Cutler.
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: That would have been the best option.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: Yeah, of those three, that turned out to be the
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: best NFL career by far, really. And the owner, Bud Adams,
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: wanted to go with Vince Young mainly because, according to
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: the documentary, Bud Adams hated the mayor of Houston, Mayor
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: Bob Lanier. It had gotten so contentious between Bud Adams
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: when he couldn't get a new stadium deal, couldn't get
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: a new stadium deal in Houston, and ended up moving
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: the franchise to Nashville in 1997. And Bud Adams was like,
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: this is the quote, Adams allegedly said, we're drafting Vince
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: because I want to see the bitch jump, end quote.
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: And that's what was said in there. So he gets,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: Vince Young gets there, and he and Jeff Fisher apparently
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: just never got along. Like he was late. He says,
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: I've only got a few rules. And one of them,
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: you can't be late for the team bus or team plane.
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: That's a fair rule.
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: I would say. Vince Young says he got caught behind
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: a funeral procession, couldn't pass, and is pulling up to
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: the airport for, I think it was an exhibition game
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: they were leaving for. And in the documentary, he says,
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: I can see them just starting. They see me and
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: I'm getting out of the car and they start closing
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: the door on me. And I can hear the team yelling.
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: from inside the plane, there he is, there he is,
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: there he is. And Fisher goes ahead and closes the gate,
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: and they leave without him. And it just becomes a
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: tremendous battle. They get into the documentary.
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: No more of this 8-8 bullshit.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: That's right. We ain't got a quarterback. They get into
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: the documentary, and they say, listen, there was a day
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: they couldn't find Vince Young after a loss, and Young
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: just wasn't returning texts. He was taking the loss bad.
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: And he comes to practice on Monday. And Fisher has
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: a he was, according to Jeff Fisher, he's worried about
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: Vince Young that he was so depressed that he may
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: have harmed himself. And so they've got a police department
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: negotiator there who takes the wallet and keys away and
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: is sitting down with Vince Young outside the football building, talking,
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: as Vince describes in the documentary, really slow. Vince, are
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: you OK? And Vince says, there's a camera crew hidden
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: in the bushes over there from a local TV station.
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: Vince Young believes it was a total Jeff Fisher setup.
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: He said, this guy's questioning me, giving me questions. And
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: I keep looking over at Jeff Fisher like, you could
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: shut this down anytime you want to. And you're just
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: letting this go on, embarrassing me outside the football building
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: so the TV cameras could get it. Now, that's Vince
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: Young's side of the story.
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: There are three sides to every.
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: Story, right? The truth will be somewhere in the middle
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: of that.
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: You guys were out one day when I had Jeff
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: Fisher on the show. I do remember that. He was
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: such a good interview. I've always been a Jeff Fisher
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: fan until he took the Rams over. He seemed to
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: get really lazy in those last couple of years in
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: the NFL. But I knew it was contentious. But I
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: always thought he was a pretty good coach with the Titans.
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: I mean, obviously got to a Super Bowl. McNair almost
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: pulled that one out of his ass.
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: He got a lot out of Steve McNair, don't you think?
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: If anybody that's interested in Jeff Fisher's story... I can't
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: make this up. Chad Withrow and Jonathan Hutton, the morning
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: guys on Sporting State that will be in town tomorrow,
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: they've hung out with Jeff Fisher. They have some incredible
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: Jeff Fisher stories.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd like to hear what they think of this
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: Netflix documentary.
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: Yeah, and I bet they've seen it just based on
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: the players.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: That was a terrible quarterback draft, though, by the way.
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: Terrible.
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: I was just looking back at that draft. I was like,
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: all right, let's just play the revisionist history and say
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: who the Titans should have taken. There was Cutler. That
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: was the best quarterback. Here are the rest of them
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: in that draft.
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: But real quick, did you guys not believe both Vince
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: Young and Matt Leinart were can't miss?
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: I get sucked into almost all the quarterbacks. I did too,
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: but they were so freaking good in college. I mean,
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: your draft that year, Jim, was Vince Young, Matt Leinart,
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: Jay Cutler, first round. They were all top 11 picks.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: Second round, Kellen Clemons, Tavares Jackson. Remember the Alabama State player, Minnesota?
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: He got some action in Minnesota and Seattle.
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: Started a playoff game.
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: Yeah. Third round, Charlie Whitehurst, Brody Croyle. Out of Alabama,
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: went to Kansas City. Got starts number one a game.
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: Charlie Whitehurst started a playoff game for a 7-9 Seattle team.
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: Fourth round, Brad Smith out of Missouri. Fifth round, Engel
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: Martin out of Furman. Omar Jacobs out of Bowling Green.
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: Sixth round, Reggie McNeil, Bruce Gradkowski, and then our buddy
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: DJ Shockley. Shock was the Falcons pick in the seventh round.
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: I mean, there was not a quarterback that did anything
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: in the league.
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: Gradkowski hung on for a while as a backup.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: That was a terrible draft to need a quarterback. Terrible draft.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: If I ask you franchises that you just aren't buying
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: into and then ones that you are buying into in
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: the next three years in the NFL, I'll just start
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: with the Titans. Three years from now, what are the Titans?
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: I told you, I said this back in the summer,
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: I would buy Titan stock right now. I think they're
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: an ascending franchise. I like Robert Sala. I think Sala
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: was just in a tough spot with the Jets. Who
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: has won as the Jets coach? They never have a
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: good quarterback. They're just a mess of a franchise. I
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: think Salah is a good coach. I was high on
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: Cam Ward, and I'm not going to make all my
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: decisions based on preseason, but boy, he's been bad in
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: his second preseason.
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: I like Cam Ward, and I thought he would be
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: really good, and he still might be good. I just
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: don't see a lot of skill there. We kind of
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: went through the receiver position yesterday. You know, Wondell Robinson,
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: you've got Calvin Ridley there, and you've obviously got Cornell Tate,
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: who has yet to catch a pass. In the preseason,
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: I don't like the running backs. I would hold on
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: the Titans.
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: Yep, I'll probably ball to her over there. But I
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: would not buy there. Okay, so give me somebody you
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: would buy in the next three years, a franchise you love.
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: I would buy the Chicago Bears. I saw enough for
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: Caleb Williams in crunch time when big, big plays mattered. Now,
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: he's all over the place, you know, the first three quarters.
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: But I do think that'll settle down a little bit
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: under Ben Johnson. I think Luther Burden's going to be
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: really good when he comes back from the injury. Colston
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: Loveland is one of the best tight ends.
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: In the NFL.
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: So I think year two, Ben Johnson, they might not
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: have the same record. They might take a step back
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: in the NFC North. But I think eventually in the
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: next three years, they are going to be a major
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: player in the NFC.
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: Brownie, who are you buying next three years in the NFL?
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: I want to buy the Atlanta Falcons. I really do
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: want to buy the Atlanta Falcons. My problem with buying
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: the Falcons, and I'm almost still willing to buy, I
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: think Stefanski, again, has never had a quarterback. I think
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: he's a good coach. I think they've got so many
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: good offensive parts. But they're not good at quarterback right now.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: But I think they're going to have to draft that. Like,
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: I think they'll give up on Pennix. Tua was never
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: going to be long-term. I think they're going to draft quarterback.
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: And this is a gamble when you're having to draft quarterback.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: And especially the Falcons getting it right. I'll buy the
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: Atlanta Falcons in the next three years.
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Um, for me, I've got two, but I'll go
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: with one. I mean, the other one's already good. I
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: don't think the Texans are growing anywhere. They'll stay. So
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: I I'll keep buying the Texans.
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: I agree. Like Stroud is not as bad as his
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: worst moments last year. If he gets back to what
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: he was is the AFC rookie of the year, two
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: years ago or three years ago, I think they're going
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: to be just fine. And they're going to continue to
- 1:28:08Speaker 2: build weapons for him. That defense is going nowhere. D'Amico
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: rides is one of the better young energetic coaches ever.
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: In football, and the Texans have yet to be to
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: even an AFC championship game. I think that's the next step.
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: I think they're going to be just fine.
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: Yeah, but the one I'll throw into our conversation, to me,
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: is the New York Giants. I believe Harbaugh is that
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: good of a coach, and I think he will build
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: a culture there that will eventually, three years from now,
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: be a winning football team.
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: If they get offensive line right and they can avoid
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: some of the injuries that they couldn't last year with
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: scataboo and malik neighbors You know, we went through their
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: skill yesterday. We talked about the guys on the defensive
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: front that can attack. I agree with you. I think
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: New York's got a bright future. I'd also throw the
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: Chargers in there. You know, getting a former head coach
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: in Mike McDaniel, I know it didn't work out in Miami.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: No, but he's a great play caller.
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: The way he can scheme, especially on the ground, I
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: think Hampton's going to be a fantastic back. He talks
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: about we've got three backs this year, so it's not
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: good for fantasy owners. Once Herbert busts through and wins
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: a playoff game, watch out. And I think Harbaugh's a really,
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: really good coach.
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: So two hardballs in the conversation there. So that's teams
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: we're buying in the next future. The final segment of
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: the show today, we're going to do what we did
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: with the SEC yesterday. We're going to give you Big
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: Ten teams' first losses, the contenders in the Big Ten.
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: We'll look at the schedules and do the first losses.
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: The show being brought to you in part by our
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: friends at Clay Travis Law. Clay Travis Law, tell them
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: about them. Yes, Clay Travis Law, they are there for you.
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: You know, a lot of times you can't really trust
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: or lean on the attorney you're talking to. And obviously,
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: if you're going up against big business, you need somebody
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: with a big name in your corner. Accidents don't wait
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: for a good time. One bad moment, a wreck, a fall,
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: a doctor who wasn't paying attention. And suddenly you're fighting
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: an insurance company that does this every single day. That's
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: why Clay started Clay Travis Law. He built a firm
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: around one idea. People deserve someone willing to pay attention,
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: ask the hard questions, and push back when things don't
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: add up. Experienced trial attorneys who bring the fight to
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: corporations and insurers based in Nashville, trusted across the country.
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: They lead negotiations with honesty, determination, and some Southern grit.

- 1:30:32Speaker 1: rock bets on sport and state today we're about to
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: talk big 10 football and do what we did yesterday
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: here in our final segment and that's uh pick the
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: first loss for big 10 contenders if you want to
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: go back to our social platforms and uh especially on YouTube,
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: and see our SEC first loss predictions. You can go
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: do that yesterday. Our friends at XXXY Clothing bringing you
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: this part of the show today, Brownie. Yeah, it is
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: a t-shirt basically that started a movement, XXXY Clothing did.
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: We're going to tell you where you can get yours online. Basically,
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: it was started by Jennifer Say. She was a national
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: champion gymnast. She was a Levi's brand president, and when
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: confronted with the This, she walked away from a corporate
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: job rather than say something she did not believe. She
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: started her own brand, XXXY Athletics. Their mission, in words,
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: empower female athletes and take a stand for fair competition.
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: So that is the t-shirt that launched the movement for them.
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: And by the way, they're the official Nashville Balls gear provider.
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: Clay Travis Future WNBA franchise, XXXY, the official apparel brand
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: for the Nashville Balls. Tees, trucker hats, they are out now.
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: If you want the shirt, that's where you get it.
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: This is real athletic apparel. It's not just a slogan
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: on a shirt. Performance tops, tanks, sports bras, leggings, shorts,
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: training sets. They've got men's and women's clothing, plus hoodies, hats,
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: and graphic tees. Worn by athletes who've actually put something
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: on the line. And new customers get 20% off your
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: first order when you sign up. Free shipping for anything
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: over $ 100. XXXYAthletics.com. That's XX-XYAthletics.com. Hey, by the way, Alabama's
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: announced their opening opponent in 2029 for college football. It's
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: Louisiana Tech. Now, that game is not going to wow you, right?
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: It's Law Tech.
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: But the game date will wow you. It's August the 25th.
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: August 25th, which would be what we call nowadays Week Zero.
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: the belief is as early as next year, we will
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: not have a week zero that that'll be officially the
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: week one game. So week zero game is the way
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: it's labeled now, but I bet it's called week one
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: by then for Alabama and law tech coming up on
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: August the 25th in 2029. I don't know what qualifies
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: you to play a week zero game. I don't think
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: it's the worst strategy. You're able to spread it out
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: a little bit more on your schedule. Um, TV ratings
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: are usually really good because there's so few games and
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: we're all football hungry. There's nothing going on that weekend generally.
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: I don't know, though, how you qualify to do it
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: because I do know, for instance, NC State and Virginia
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: were supposed to play in Brazil. You have to get
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: NCAA approval.
- 1:33:15Speaker 4: You do.
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: But my point is I don't know how you– like
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: I understand like Hawaii, they're coming to the mainland and
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: they're playing Stanford. And then somebody goes to Hawaii the
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: very next week and they're able to play– who is
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: it that plays Hawaii week two? Memphis? Memphis. maybe is
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: that why they're able to play UNLV that's why they're
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: able to play yep on week zero because they're playing
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: at Hawaii and the NCAA allows for that but I
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: was going to say that NC State Virginia game was
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: supposed to be in Brazil that's what allowed it to
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: be week zero they had to reapply to keep it
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: week zero when it moved back stateside here after the
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: Brazil part got canceled Alabama La Tech and what will
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: Brooks did you tell me give me Brooks microphone Tyler
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: is this Alabama's earliest game ever.
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: One of the earliest. It'll be the earliest since 1986.
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: This is really strange, actually. Alabama played on a Wednesday.
- 1:34:04Speaker 6: Yep.
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: August 27, 1986, a 16-10 victory over Ohio State.
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: Yep. In East Rutherford, New Jersey. I don't remember it
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: being a Wednesday, but I remember the game. I don't either.
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: For me, it was Labor Day night, but I guess
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: it wasn't. No, Labor Day night, they played Georgia. You
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: remember that pump block game? I believe that was Labor
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: Day night, if I'm not mistaken. I do remember that
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: Alabama-Ohio State game being earlier in the year. I did
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: not remember it being a Wednesday night. That is a
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: random night to play a football game.
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: It really is.
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: All right, let's do the Big Ten first loss. to
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: wrap up our first half of our next round product
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: here today on Sport and Stay, presented by our friends
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: at Hard Rock Bets. Forrester is going to just pick
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: up a random Big Ten contender, and we'll tell you
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: who the first loss is. So, Forrester, start us off.
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: Whichever one you want to go with, we'll jump on
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: there and try to do this and try not to
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: back ourselves, paint ourselves into the corner. So who's up first?
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: I've got to remember I had Texas beating Ohio State
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: for later.
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: That is Oregon's schedule.
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: At USC, September 26th for me. All right.
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: So that's week four as we go across. They beat Boise,
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: Oklahoma State, Portland State, and USC. You got USC beating them.
- 1:35:17Speaker 7: Yep.
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: Brownie? I think I'm going to have them beating USC,
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: but losing at Ohio State Saturday, November 7th. That'll be
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: my first loss for them. I'm going to go with Brown.
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: I'm going to go Ohio State. I think they get USC. Nebraska, Illinois, Northwestern, UCLA,
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: that middle line's pretty good for them. The ending's pretty tough, though.
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: Ohio State and Michigan.
- 1:35:39Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: Michigan State and Washington. But I'll go Ohio State, too.
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: I say 8-0, and they lose game nine.
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: Yeah, that game is massive in the Coliseum. I'll come
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: back when we get to USC, and I'll kind of
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: explain I'm threading the needle, but I think USC's going
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: to get them.
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: All right. Who's up next, Forrester? This is Ohio State.
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: Ball State... Texas is next there. Anybody stopping at Texas?
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: I've got Texas winning that game September 12th. I think
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: it's going to be a hell of a game, but
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: I think Texas will return the favor from last year.
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: When we did this exercise yesterday in the SEC, I
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: had Texas winning this game consistently. I will keep them
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: winning this game. I think I had Ohio State winning
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: this game yesterday, so I'll keep going. I think they
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: get Indiana. I'm going to go at USC. I think
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: USC gets Ohio State on the road at the Coliseum.
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: Halloween.
- 1:36:26Speaker 6: Halloween.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: Before the Oregon game. USC dressed as a contender that night?
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: Maybe. We can only hope.
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: Give me another one, Forrester. Big Ten contenders first losses. Oh,
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: is that Trent Dilford? No, it's Kurt Cignetti.
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: I am going at Michigan October 24th.
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: That Northwestern game is interesting. Yeah. no i i thought
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: that was on the road i thought they were opening
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: a new stadium they're not.
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: That's in state yeah they've got four straight home games
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: their first road game in piscataway rutgers at nebraska so
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: lance you were out friday yep i did this with
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: dunaway i was like when you see these teams going
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: these long win streaks like you know regular season win
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: streaks or whatever and i brought up uh jim brought
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: up i can't remember who you brought up somebody uh Oh,
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: it was an Alabama team. Lost to Mississippi State on
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: the road in Jackson.
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: 1980. Yeah, 1980. Then I brought up that Gene Stallings
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: team that went from early 91 all the way into
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: 93 without a loss. And LSU, a bad Curly Hallman
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: LSU team, beat them in Bryant-Denny. Remember, Miami had that
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: long win streak, and Arizona ended it. Bear down defense
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: ended it. It frequently comes where you don't expect it.
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: The attention drifts a little bit. That's right. I just believe,
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: based on the first four games, the first five games,
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: even the first six games at Nebraska, it gets real
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: Ohio State. But then I think they wake up. So
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: I think they're 6-0. I think they beat Ohio State.
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: And then... The come down when they go to the
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: big house the very next week against an improved Michigan
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: team with Underwood in that second year with Kyle Whittingham,
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: with Jason Beck running that offense, I think that's going
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: to be the come down after beating Ohio State. So
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: that'll be, at that point, 23 consecutive wins.
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: My theory is with Ohio State and Michigan on the horizon,
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: their first loss is at Nebraska. I'll go with Brown.
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: I'll take Nebraska. I think that's the loss that surprises you.
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: You're like, wow, I did not expect Indiana's win streak
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: to end And Lincoln, Nebraska. And then you start talking
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: Indiana misses the playoffs at that point. Well, yeah, because
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: their next two games are against Ohio State and Michigan. Yeah.
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: I'll ride with you. I'll go Nebraska on that one.
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: Not going to blow me away. if they come back
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: and beat Ohio State right after that. About eight minutes
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: left in the show here, Forrester. Who's next here? This
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: is USC, LT.
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: You said you had a point to make here.
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: Go first.
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: Yeah, so I have got USC's first loss October 3rd
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: to Washington. I believe that USC is going to come
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: out on fire. I think they're going to start 5-0
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: after that Oregon win. People are going to be, this
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: is the year for Lincoln Riley. I think they're going
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: to lose that home to Washington, and then I think
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: they're going to pop back up when we get to
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: Penn State. I'll tell you this, I think they're going
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: to beat Penn State on that whiteout. But I think
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: they're going to lose that Washington game after there's so
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: much momentum with a 5-0 start.
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: Tricky ending, because I think UCLA will be very improved
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: with Nico back at the end. So you end the season,
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: Ohio State, Indiana. maryland ucla yeah i got to be
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: consistent here because i had oregon beating them earlier so
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: i'll say their first loss is saturday september 26 in
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: the mausoleum against the oregon ducks same thing i said
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: give me the next one for sure we have to
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: be consistent you guys are so pretty i know little
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: helmet schedule and what's the team here that's going to
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: be the old flying wing jim go with the most
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: helmets on there okay it's week.
- 1:39:37Speaker 2: Two it's oklahoma rolling into the big house Oklahoma's the
- 1:39:41Speaker 2: better team this year. Oklahoma's got more stability there. Well,
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: they whipped them last year. Yeah, I think it's going
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: to take Michigan, you know, filling it out a little
- 1:39:50Speaker 2: bit with that offense and with Underwood again in year two.
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: I think it's week two against the SEC.
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: I'll ride with you this time, LT.
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: I'll go Oklahoma as well over Michigan. And then after that,
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: I can make a case for Matt Campbell coming in
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: there and getting that win on homecoming. on Penn State
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: yeah from Penn State or Indiana I mean Oklahoma's probably
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: the right answer there um I'm just I I'm not
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: as high on the Sooners as Lance is and I
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: I don't know where you kind of stand on Oklahoma
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: Jim what what's uh what's seven and five for Kyle
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: Winningham what does that look like to you guys yeah
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: if he ends up seven and five not good at
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: all yeah so if they lose to Oklahoma Oregon, Ohio State.
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: Penn State, Indiana, Oregon, and Ohio State. So your seven
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: wins are going to be UCLA, Michigan State, Rutgers, Minnesota, Iowa, UTEP,
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: and Western Michigan. That is not going to go over
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: too well.
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: Underwood is improved, which he should be in this new offense.
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: I think they're going to get better each and every week.
- 1:40:49Speaker 2: Get them early.
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: All right, Forrester, what's next? This is Penn State.
- 1:40:56Speaker 2: I think it's USC. USC. And that is early October.
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: What do you have USC's record here? I'm trying to
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: keep up with this.
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: I got them at 9-3.
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: 9-3, okay.
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: Yeah, they're giving a lot of Big Ten teams their
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: first loss.
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay. I'm going to go off the board.
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: I'm going to say at Northwestern to open up new
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: Ryan Field. Oh, wow. Crazy atmosphere.
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: I think it's a Friday night game.
- 1:41:15Speaker 6: It is.
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: So I'm going to go Penn State drops one at Northwestern.
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: I was going to say that seems like such a
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: Pat Fitzgerald thing to do, but he's at Michigan State now.
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: He is. Brown, where's your first loss? A USC game
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: being at night kind of changes it for me. My
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: concern with USC was that was going to be fly
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: all the way across the country and play that body
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: clock game. I'll take USC. I think Lance is right
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: on that one. Saturday, October 10th. That could be an
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: easy three-game losing streak right there if they were to
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: drop Northwestern with USC and Michigan on the horizon. Yeah,
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: I mean, that is a bit of a trap game
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: for them. But a really good schedule for Penn State.
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: Penn State's one of those teams that When we get
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: to Selection Sunday, that if they're 9-3 or 10-2, I'm
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: not sure they should be judged the same way as
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: other 9-3 and 10-2 teams.
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: They're missing the three best teams. They could miss every
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: team that makes the playoffs from the Big Ten this
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: year in Oregon, Ohio State, and Indiana. I said this yesterday.
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: If USC had this schedule, Penn State's schedule, they would
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: be a college football playoff team for sure.
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: I don't know how many more we have.
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: I think there's one. I think it's Washington.
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: Okay, Washington is next.
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: I think Washington goes the deepest. I think they make
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: it all the way at 10-0 to November 21st, and
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: I think they end up losing their final two games
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: of the season. And then I think it becomes, like,
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: what did they do to earn this? They beat SC,
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: depending on how good SC is on the road. But
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: the committee's going to have a little bit of trouble
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: at that point. Would you guys agree if their two
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: losses of the final two games of the season to
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: go 10-2 against what seems like an easier Big Ten schedule?
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: I mean, in that case, they would need USC to
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: be good. Because they would have beaten USC. They would
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: need Penn State to be good. And then I don't
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: know who else they're going to need to handle. Nebraska, maybe?
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: They need Iowa to be pretty good. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: they wouldn't have a whole lot of... We know where
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: Iowa's going to be ranked then, Jim. It's 24th, right?
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: But your scenario is they're 10-0.
- 1:43:07Speaker 7: Yep.
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: And then they lose to, I assume, two teams you
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: think are in the playoffs. Yep.
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: Indiana and then Atta-Wergen.
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: So they're 10-2. And then I'm deciding as a selection
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: committee member... Do they belong in the playoffs because their
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: only losses were to playoff teams? And that's always an
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: interesting debate. Do you have any wins over playoff teams? No.
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: I'll give you another scenario here. Let's just say that
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: Indiana and Oregon are back playing. Oregon has spent two years.
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: Indiana played Ohio State last year. But let's say Indiana
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: and Oregon are in Indianapolis playing a Big Ten championship game.
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: Ohio State has lost that Texas game. They're sitting there
- 1:43:42Speaker 2: at 9-3, and you've got 10-2 Washington, and they didn't
- 1:43:45Speaker 2: play each other. If I'm a committee member, I'm taking
- 1:43:48Speaker 2: Ohio State over Washington. You guys?
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: I think so. 9-3 Ohio State over 10-2 Washington. Yeah.
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: I think I would. A 10-2 Washington who's lost to
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: Indiana and Oregon could have zero top 25 wins. Now,
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: I think Iowa, Penn State, Nebraska, somebody will sneak into
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: the top 25, but they won't have a lot of them.
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: But the committee, I mean, not with Ohio State, but
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: other leagues like a second Big 12, a second ACC,
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: a fifth SEC team, 10-2 resonates with the committee at
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: least so far. They seem to go by win-loss records
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: more than they do quality wins and strength of schedule.
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: I think the committee really likes to see double-digit wins.
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: I don't know why that should matter because I'm with you,
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: a 9-3 Ohio State could have a much better team
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: than a 10-2 Washington. But they like to see those
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: 10 wins. Yeah, but the same if it's a 9-3
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: Texas versus 10-2 Washington, 9-3 Alabama versus 10-2 Washington. I
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: would venture to say those SEC teams I mentioned would
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: have better wins than what Washington. I didn't know that
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: was Washington's schedule. Not too bad until you get to
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: the end.
- 1:44:54Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: I mean, if they could just play the first 10 weeks,
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: they'd be one of the best teams in America.
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they're going to be one of the surprises,
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: especially early on. Again, if they open 10-0, they're, what,
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: number six, seven in the nation probably, maybe even higher.
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, if they're 10-0, they'll be top five.
- 1:45:07Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: By the way, Washington State rivalry game in the opener.
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: I don't know if they're top five. Washington, Wazoo, you
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: think Wazoo could? No, I'm just saying that game's in Seattle.
- 1:45:16Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: And Washington was putting Washington State's band, or Washington State,
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: whoever decided that the band wasn't going to be in
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: the lower bowl. I think Alabama endured this when they
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: went to Texas a few years ago. They did, yeah,
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: upper deck. So the band's going to be upper deck.
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: So for the first time, I think it's the first
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: time in a long time at the Apple Cup, the
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: visiting band's not making the trip. Washington State's band decides
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: we're not going.
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: I don't think that's going to factor in at all.
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: Yeah, but a little bad blood in that rivalry, of course,
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: going on. Hey, don't forget tomorrow night, our kickoff party.
