- 0:01So time for a little sports talk.
- 0:11It's always riveting in a way that when you see in sub
- 0:16football tape by way, it's always riveting when you see a
- 0:24player that look like to be on the rise as one of the top
- 0:31players in this league all of a sudden have a steep and
- 0:39precarious fall from not only grace, but from what he could
- 0:44have been. You just have to think back to
- 0:48yourself, well, how did it happen?
- 0:52Because there's been so many cases for, you know, NFL players
- 0:57who look like they were on their way to the level of being elite
- 1:02for a long time. But then something were to
- 1:06happen where all of that immediately goes away.
- 1:16So the person that I'm with influencing, in case you need to
- 1:20know, is Cleveland Browns court. Back to Shawn Watts.
- 1:26So today, according to head coach Tom Monken, he was named
- 1:31the Week 1 star. And Monken said earlier today
- 1:37that he doesn't see this as a week to week thing, meaning he
- 1:42doesn't essentially want to have to evaluate the position every
- 1:47week during the season. Now let me give you all a tidbit
- 1:59of how the Browns in a lot of ways, them naming Deshaun Watson
- 2:06the regular season starter makes absolutely no sense.
- 2:12Now, mind you, this is a guy that was the 12th overall pick
- 2:20in the 2017 NFL trap who was electrified at Clemson, one
- 2:26national child and everybody thought he was going to be among
- 2:31the next wave of quarterbacks that we talk about as of right
- 2:38now. And let's start, you know, in
- 2:44Houston, he was there really for Four Seasons.
- 2:50It should have been a fit, but I'll get into that in a moment.
- 2:56At times it looked like he was going to be Dairy Court.
- 3:02He had that one great year where it looked like he was going to
- 3:07be a perennial All Pro Pro Bowl quarterback.
- 3:12And then, you know, there was a night year where he actually so
- 3:16something so you can say it's really two years, but then
- 3:22that's when everything fell apart.
- 3:30After a couple seasons there, the organization had completely
- 3:35fell apart. GM changes, coaching changes,
- 3:40what have you, players coming and going and DE Sean at at a
- 3:46certain point just felt he needed to get out of Houston.
- 3:50Now mind you, he had a list of teams he wanted to possibly be
- 3:56traded to. Cleveland was not even on his
- 4:00way and so he was supposed to play what subsequently was his
- 4:09last year in Houston. But he did.
- 4:12He saw the entire season and ultimately never stepped foot in
- 4:19the field for the Texans again. But then that same year, he got
- 4:32named in a handful of sexual harassment allegations.
- 4:39And forgive me if I don't remember the name or number off
- 4:42the top of my head, but it was over 20 women that had accused
- 4:47Watson of a lot of things, which I'm not going to go into a
- 4:51massage parlor. But while he wasn't playing
- 4:58football and trying to get out of Houston, he had that scenario
- 5:04to deal with. And even though the lawsuits,
- 5:09you know, resolved itself over time, that didn't exempt him
- 5:15once he was able to get out of Houston from a suspension from
- 5:19the league office. That part I will get you in the
- 5:23moment. And so after this century
- 5:26playing or not really playing in Houston and what was his final
- 5:31year, Cleveland called up the Texans, gave him a boatload of
- 5:37draft picks. And you can now argue a contract
- 5:44that you can say is the worst contract in the history of
- 5:49sports. Now it qualifies as the worst
- 5:56contract in FL history. But if you want to say, you
- 6:00know, sports history, what have you, I'm willing to listen.
- 6:05But here's what makes it by far the worst.
- 6:10It was all guaranteed, OK? Not, you know, guaranteed for
- 6:17like 3 years. And then, you know, if they have
- 6:20to figure out the remaining parts of it, they can.
- 6:24No, all five of those years were guaranteed. 230 million of it to
- 6:32be exact, even though they had to kind of like restructure at
- 6:36times and all that. 230 million is what they guaranteed to Shawn
- 6:44Watson and they ended up getting him from the Texans.
- 6:55So now let's transition over to his off time in Cleveland and
- 7:01you'll know why I set that part in a moment.
- 7:08Now, when he got there, even though there was some Browns
- 7:12fans that were kind of willing to give him an olive plants to
- 7:16support him, there were many of them that were not in favor of
- 7:21this, and rightfully so. But once he got there, that's
- 7:26when everything really started to climb.
- 7:30He got because of the league office after the lawsuits had
- 7:35come and gone. He had had to serve an 11 game
- 7:40suspension because of it. And if you thought that was just
- 7:47the first domino and you are in four more after really his 11
- 7:55game suspension, take a guess as to how many games he has played
- 8:02with Cleveland since being acquired a couple years back.
- 8:09If you don't know what the answer is, 19, 19 games over
- 8:18parts of really Four Seasons Throughout those four years, he
- 8:27suffered two Achilles injuries on both of his feet per SE.
- 8:39And whenever he has been on the field, you can tell, you know,
- 8:45outside of the injuries and obviously the suspension that he
- 8:50had, you can tell that he just does not look anywhere close to
- 8:57what he was for that one or two years in Houston.
- 9:06Not only has his play fallen off, but his one standing as far
- 9:14as you know, NFL circles has completely been evaporated.
- 9:20And here's what makes it as far as you know on the field stuff
- 9:27makes it even worse for the Sean Watts.
- 9:32Like I mentioned, he was supposed to be among the group
- 9:36of quarterbacks that we talk about and hold and high regard
- 9:39for mania from. By this point, all those guys
- 9:45have done more than he has. So you can attribute his fall
- 9:59from promise, as you can say to a lot of things, whether or not
- 10:06the allegations which were serious, several instances of
- 10:12season ending injuries or just being completely lost on the
- 10:16field. He is a shell of himself.
- 10:21And I don't know if you heard what he said Saturday, but this
- 10:26pretty much cemented for me as to why he has no credibility.
- 10:31So he has started the 1st or as first really home game since
- 10:3920/24. He had took the field.
- 10:43He didn't play all that great in the preseason game on Saturday
- 10:46against Buffalo. And then the fans in Cleveland
- 10:51booed him mostly. And then after the game, he made
- 10:59a comment saying basically they felt it was disrespectful for
- 11:04the fans to Boo me and also said that we think I, I think we know
- 11:10that them booing had nothing to do with my performance today.
- 11:17To me. Do you know why I take away from
- 11:20that comment? It's two things.
- 11:23Number one, it signals to me a guy who is using that as a cop
- 11:33out for why not only has his overall play deteriorate in a
- 11:41handful of years spanning, but it's like he feels as if he's
- 11:47been the victim here when he clearly is.
- 11:53And the second thing, and this is probably the most obvious
- 11:56thing in all of this. I never thought, you know, even
- 12:05when he was coming out of the draft, I never thought he was
- 12:10going to be that great to begin with.
- 12:14OK. There's something to me about,
- 12:18you know, guys that were really electrifying college that looked
- 12:23like they were going to transition that to the NFL.
- 12:28It's always been, well, can they continue that at the next level?
- 12:37And I think we have seen, obviously along with other
- 12:40things, I think we have seen why just because you have had
- 12:46college success does not ultimately mean it will
- 12:51translate to the next level. And so that's why if you're a
- 13:00Browns fan, you are essentially hope that the season comes and
- 13:06goes and as well As for the organization so that you don't
- 13:12have to not only pay the son Watson anymore, but you can
- 13:18hopefully, you know, restart the clock once again on another
- 13:22rebuild the right way as far as, you know, the aforementioned
- 13:35look, I think. And if I'm wrong, I won't have a
- 13:40problem with it. But after this season, you know,
- 13:44no matter how it plays out, I don't think any team should pick
- 13:50up Deshaun Watson ever again because not only has his play
- 13:59deteriorated significantly, but he just he just kind of gives
- 14:08the impression that he was really a one year wonder who had
- 14:18that glimmer of promise that he showed when he was at Clemson.
- 14:23And then when you add in him one out in Houston, the million of
- 14:29allegations that came after and then subsequently since being in
- 14:35Cleveland being a show of what he could have been.
- 14:41It all ties in to a player that was never really anything but
- 14:48one year one. So if I'm any NFL team after
- 14:55this season, I would not take a flyer on Deshaun Watson.
- 15:03I mean, it would have to take, you know, a team that is so
- 15:06desperate or just have been, you know, injury rate and at the
- 15:12quarterback spot that they're almost desperate to try
- 15:17something. And I'll tell you why he would
- 15:22be among the very last people or probably the last I would ever
- 15:31consider bringing it because we do live in a, what have you done
- 15:38for me lately, you know, kind of world?
- 15:43What has he done over the last couple of years to show that he
- 15:49deserves to be on the NFL roster?
- 15:53I would, if I were Agmi, would not even consider, OK, I don't
- 15:58care how much, you know, others try to maybe persuade.
- 16:02I want nothing to do with a guy who, not only for the
- 16:10seriousness of the things that he was dealing with, but because
- 16:16he ultimately has never been able, since leaving Houston,
- 16:24recaptured that form that should have made him in the weak
- 16:29quarterback. I can't do it.
- 16:31Follow Regia. But you know what?
- 16:38That's what ultimately he gets when stuff like this comes home
- 16:45to haunt you.
