- 0:01Welcome to Rick and That Michelle Chick, the weekly
- 0:05podcast where your hosts, Rick and Michelle, confidently dive
- 0:10into topics they know absolutely nothing about and somehow make
- 0:15it sound legit. They're not experts.
- 0:17They're not qualified. Honestly, they barely googled
- 0:20it. So grab a drink, lower your
- 0:23expectations, and let's pretend this counts as content.
- 0:28So buckle up. Facts are optional, but the
- 0:31bullshit? That's premium grade.
- 0:34This is Rick and that Michelle chick.
- 0:41Awesome. Hey, we're back.
- 0:43Well, normally you start it. See, I always joke about setting
- 0:45the table, but normally, normally you start this,
- 0:47Michelle. So I was surprised.
- 0:50Number one, usually when we're talking about responses to the
- 0:53podcast, it's 99.9% your friends and I'm and then I'm always
- 0:57yeah. And then no one ever makes a
- 0:59comment to me about the the podcast.
- 1:01But out of the blue, I got an, an Instagram from a friend of
- 1:05mine and her name is Kate. And she was listening to the
- 1:08podcast and we were talking about the radio situation with
- 1:11our friend that's in Phoenix. And then and then she goes, oh,
- 1:15and then I talked about the fact that the person, it had never
- 1:19been in radio in Nashville, got on the radio and then of course
- 1:21got let go like 6 months later. So she made a comment about that
- 1:24and thought maybe we knew the same people, but we didn't.
- 1:27But I want to do a quick shout out.
- 1:29Hopefully. I hope Kate is listening on this
- 1:31one because she says she goes, oh, I really enjoyed the
- 1:33podcast. And I'm like, what?
- 1:34Somebody want, you know, somebody's actually.
- 1:37I know. I think we don't believe it.
- 1:39When I don't. Believe it.
- 1:40And it's mainly our friends and family that tell us this.
- 1:42And we know they're lying when they tell us.
- 1:45Yeah, yeah. I love listening to the podcast
- 1:47every Thursday. I can't wait for it to drop.
- 1:49And I'm like, are you mental? Like right?
- 1:51Yeah, I'm always, again, I'm always shocked, but I will.
- 1:54I will. So I knew.
- 1:56This is why I got to do a little shout out for is I knew Kate in
- 1:58high school, so so I sat behind her in I had dumb head.
- 2:03I had dumb ass math. I needed an elective.
- 2:07I needed an elective. So I took the easiest math
- 2:09course, which I'm still horrible at math, but I took the easiest
- 2:12math class in my senior year and I sat behind Kate and I, I just
- 2:16want to say a couple things about her is so and I've talked
- 2:20about this before on the podcast.
- 2:22I had always thought. Sounds familiar, I think.
- 2:24Haven't you told stories about? No, no.
- 2:26So Katie. Katie, how?
- 2:28Oh, Katie. OK.
- 2:30How? Kate and Katie, Sorry.
- 2:32It's yes. Right, right.
- 2:33So this is my Yeah, so. So yes.
- 2:35I mean, not to say that I I didn't think Kate was cute
- 2:38because she's adorable. She really is.
- 2:39But yeah, Katie Howe. Oh my God, we could spend.
- 2:42Someday we'll spend a whole podcast on what I call the.
- 2:45Sickness. We know what the sickness is.
- 2:48Done it a little. Bit yes, yes, I I am mentally
- 2:52deranged and and it's a very unique it's it's weird.
- 2:57It's almost my secret it's it's almost my secret superpower, but
- 3:01you do not want it going the wrong direction.
- 3:05It is yeah, it it's a it's a mental thing.
- 3:08So what maybe we'll talk about that.
- 3:09I call it the sickness, but I went to school with Kate and so
- 3:12anyway, sat behind her in this dumb head, dumb ass math class.
- 3:17Anyway, she so I was, I, I will, I was, I was very nerdy or I was
- 3:22geeky or I was not popular in high school.
- 3:25And she was super nice to me. Like she would turn around and
- 3:28talk to me. We'd have conversations and she
- 3:30was always super nice to me, right?
- 3:33And then at the 10 year reunion, it was kind of that awkward.
- 3:36Like you're, you're, you're kind of still at the 10 year reunion.
- 3:40You're still in your weird. Clicks.
- 3:41Clicks, Yeah. You still are, you know.
- 3:44So here I am over at the at the nerd table or whatever, but Kate
- 3:47walks by and and she's 10 years older and, and she just stops by
- 3:53and grabs my arm and arm and says Hey, Rick.
- 3:56And or well, Virgil says Virgil, not Rick, because she knows me
- 3:59as Virgil anyway, so she was very nice to me at the at the 10
- 4:03year reunion. Now, I didn't see her as she
- 4:05didn't come to the 20 or she didn't come to the 30, but I've
- 4:08never forgotten that kindness because at the 10 year reunion,
- 4:13you're still kind of, I don't know, you know what I'm saying,
- 4:15You're trying to interact with people, but everybody's really
- 4:18kind of still the way they were. And the best part is, I will
- 4:22tell you, the 20 year reunion is absolutely the best because you
- 4:25are who you are. There's no, there's no denying
- 4:28it. There's no like who's driving a
- 4:30better car, who's got a better career?
- 4:32That stuff after 20 years kind of goes like.
- 4:35You don't most. People 99.9% don't care about
- 4:39it, but the tan, they still are holding on to some of that
- 4:42previous high school glory and, and trying to make it, you know,
- 4:46and, and in both cases in high school, she was nothing but nice
- 4:49to me. And then at the tenure union,
- 4:51she was nothing but nice to me. And of course, we've stayed in
- 4:54contact and she's happily married, got three kids and they
- 4:57live in Oregon and, and she's just an amazing person.
- 5:01But I will tell you a quick, super quick story.
- 5:03One of the biggest lessons, and I don't think I've told this on
- 5:05the podcast yet, the biggest lesson I ever learned in high
- 5:10school was as I got to my senior year.
- 5:12So I, so I talk about it in the book, my book, I talk about the
- 5:17fact that between my junior year and my senior year, I went to
- 5:20Seattle and I visited my friend Don Luther.
- 5:25And so anyway, they took me to Nordstrom's, they bought me some
- 5:28clothes, different things like that.
- 5:30And so it was interesting that I was in Seattle and people would
- 5:35like like the, the, the daughters of, of Dawn.
- 5:38They had like three daughters. They were close to my age, you
- 5:40know, but I was, but I remember being at the swimming pool in
- 5:43Seattle and, and the, the daughter goes, oh, that girl
- 5:47over there thinks you're cute. Now, being a geek and a nerd or
- 5:51growing up with that, that impression of who you think you
- 5:54are and who you really are, two different things.
- 5:56So I was like, what someone actually thinks that I'm, you
- 5:59know, attractive or semi attractive, not I'm not fugly.
- 6:02I mean, so but but I but because you go through junior high, you
- 6:06go through high school where people have told you that you're
- 6:08ugly and all these different things that you don't even think
- 6:12right, right. So I didn't even think about it.
- 6:15So it was interesting that, oh, and I was, I was.
- 6:18So going to Seattle changed my perspective in terms of, my
- 6:21gosh, this is just one little slice of life.
- 6:23Like, you know, it's like, I know that you're, you're, you're
- 6:27bigger than the sums of that, of that experience.
- 6:31And and so when I got back to my senior year, because of my great
- 6:35friends, Don Luther and them, I mean, I, I was dressed in
- 6:37Nordstroms. I had the sweet mullet going on.
- 6:40I mean, no, but I mean, I'm just saying that who you see today is
- 6:44pretty much kind of, sort of, you know who I was, you know, So
- 6:48by by going to Seattle. Yeah, by by going to Seattle and
- 6:51coming back to my small town, I gained a lot more confidence and
- 6:55how I dealt with people. And it was like I, I I just
- 6:59realized that there's more, there was more value than what
- 7:02what people, people's perception in my school about who I was.
- 7:06And so and that, and so I just remember that I got into one of
- 7:09my classes and I'd gotten into an argument with one of the
- 7:12popular kids about just but about cliques and nerds and all
- 7:18these different things. And I can't remember if it's if
- 7:21it and, and Kate will know these people.
- 7:22I can't remember if it's Rocky or Tina.
- 7:24So there's they were twins. There was Rocky Ridge and Tina
- 7:27Ridge and they were twins. I cannot remember which twin it
- 7:30was, but she said the most profound thing to me and it
- 7:34taught me everything. It reminded me of of people's
- 7:37perception. She said I had said, man, you've
- 7:41never, you never treated us nerds, right?
- 7:43You, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 7:46And I remember her going, well, I never, she goes, I never saw
- 7:49you at a football game. I never saw you at any
- 7:53fundraising. I never saw you at actively
- 7:56interacting with our class. And I thought, well, no, I
- 8:02thought, whoa, hang on a second. And she goes, she goes, if you
- 8:05would have met us halfway, we would have met you halfway.
- 8:08Now that was a that's a lesson because, because, because my
- 8:13perception was nobody, my perception was nobody likes me
- 8:16or I didn't like, I didn't, they didn't like me and I didn't like
- 8:19them, you know, and, and I could, I could hardly wait to
- 8:22get out of high school to pursue whatever I'm going to pursue in
- 8:25my life. And and at that, in my senior
- 8:28year, I got put in my place and I look back like she was right.
- 8:35Now, there was circumstances because of the Wallaces, I
- 8:38wasn't able to do all these different things she was talking
- 8:40about. I know it was.
- 8:41I know it was more than just going to a football game or
- 8:44going to the bake sale or but right, but.
- 8:47But those were the people that were bullying me like, you know,
- 8:53like the popular kids or the kids get that everybody got
- 8:57along with or liked. So why would I they extend
- 9:02myself out to the kids that were like them because the chances of
- 9:07me being bullied by them as well were pretty high.
- 9:11I know and I, I, it's hard to describe.
- 9:13So I went through a weird change between my junior and senior
- 9:18year. And if you go read my annual,
- 9:20because everybody wrote in my annual, you know, different
- 9:22people wrote my annual and they had all said, you've changed so
- 9:26much. You, like you, are so different
- 9:29than you were. And well, I'd gotten away from
- 9:31the Wallaces, which we didn't. They didn't know.
- 9:34I mean, all these things I wasn't.
- 9:35The Wallaces did not allow me to be who I am.
- 9:38They did not allow me to be the person the bogans had raised.
- 9:41Right. That would that you know.
- 9:43So they they wanted to stifle that person.
- 9:46Correct. That person was stifled so so it
- 9:48wasn't so in elementary school. It's not.
- 9:51And it's not about being popular.
- 9:52I think that's just a horrible word.
- 9:53But but I was well liked in elementary school.
- 9:57Like like kids didn't make fun of my name in elementary school.
- 10:00I was, you know, I guess I'd be what could be considered a cool
- 10:03kid, you know, But once I hit, you know, or at least I had no
- 10:07issues. I had no issues with anybody,
- 10:09you know, like there was no bullies for me in elementary
- 10:12school. None of none of that happened.
- 10:14But when I got to junior high and got put with the Wallaces at
- 10:18Lincoln Middle School, that's when they made fun of my name or
- 10:21they made fun of the fact that I, that I, you know, didn't
- 10:23shower as much as I should. I mean, all the things that,
- 10:26that I was not directly in control of.
- 10:29So I know that they did have a, a perceived perception of me.
- 10:33And then and then the course by leaving the Wallaces between my
- 10:36junior and senior year. You know, I've always, I even
- 10:39talked about it in my book that be the senior year was the
- 10:42greatest year for me because I was able to, to do all the
- 10:45things I wanted to do, take a shower.
- 10:48I mean, not smell, not be the smelly kid, you know, and, and,
- 10:52and be my and be my what I would like to think my true
- 10:54personality. So but Kate was one of those
- 10:57people who was always nice, just nice to me.
- 10:59So I, you know, but I just go back to, I mean, I, I mean, and
- 11:03again, everybody's experience is different, but it really was
- 11:07profound when she had when when Rocky or Tina had said, hey,
- 11:10man, you could have met us halfway.
- 11:12Now, Rocky and Tina, they weren't the ones picking on me,
- 11:14OK. I mean, if I was getting picked
- 11:16on, it wasn't girls. I mean, it was, it was dudes.
- 11:20I mean, for for a guy, guys. Yeah, yeah, it was other guys.
- 11:24And I remember and one instance where Sean Wexler, who was very,
- 11:28at least I thought he was popular in school, he had a
- 11:30muscle car and he had a Corvette.
- 11:33And I don't know how we got talking, but he goes, man, come
- 11:36on, let's go downtown and let's go cruising.
- 11:38And so when I showed up in my senior year cruising in downtown
- 11:42Lewiston, people are like, Oh my God, Virgil's here because it
- 11:46was just, I wasn't, I was never, you know, so, so it's like, so I
- 11:51learned by putting myself out. Well, I, well, I don't, I try
- 11:54not. I mean, I mean, it was just a
- 11:56total. It was just perception is
- 11:57different than reality. Right.
- 12:00That's all. And I realized when she when
- 12:02that when Rocky and Tina said, hey, you know, and I look back,
- 12:05you're right because I was stifled by the wall and says I
- 12:08couldn't join football or basketball or volleyball or any
- 12:12of those things that would have. I think from a bullying
- 12:15standpoint, I'm not saying that that's the right thing to do,
- 12:18but usually if you're involved with groups of people.
- 12:21Yes. Yeah, you know, I'm not into.
- 12:23Them you're part of the group and so you're less likely to be
- 12:27bullied like. Sure.
- 12:28Right. Exactly.
- 12:30Yeah, I'm not. And I'm not saying that that's
- 12:32every situation, but it for me, it was just that profound, like,
- 12:35hey, you know, I look back like, yeah, I, I, I could have, I
- 12:38could have met them halfway. So anyway, shout out to Kate.
- 12:42I just want to give her a you know, and we're still buddies on
- 12:46Facebook and Instagram and she's awesome and I I can't tell a
- 12:50lie. I do a did I had a little crush
- 12:52on her in high school so and I love sit, I love I I think she
- 12:56already knows because I sat right behind her so I looked at
- 12:59her butt all the time so I was good so.
- 13:01Oh, OK. No, she was so.
- 13:05Cute. No, I'm no, she already knows
- 13:08I'm not, I'm not worried about it.
- 13:09No, she was adorable and, and now I now for me, Kate was too
- 13:14cool. I don't, I mean, I think she had
- 13:16a boyfriend in high school. So I never asked Kate out or
- 13:18anything, but I look back like, oh, she's just a cool.
- 13:21She was just a cool person. Right, right.
- 13:24Yeah, so anyway, shout out to her.
- 13:27And and again, the lesson, the lesson learned was you got to
- 13:30meet people halfway. You can't just make an
- 13:32assumption about people. I think that's the worst thing
- 13:35you could. Have you ever had a Co worker,
- 13:36Michelle? Have you ever had a Co worker
- 13:38where you're like, oh, that person's an asshole, that
- 13:40person's a Dick. And then you got to know him and
- 13:42you're like, well, this person's actually pretty cool.
- 13:45It's kind of because people, because people said yeah, yes.
- 13:50Yeah, yeah. Where people said, hey, man,
- 13:51don't go into that person, that person's a jerk or that, you
- 13:54know, you're not right. And then you get to know me.
- 13:55You're like, oh, I like this person.
- 13:57Right. But usually for the most part
- 14:01they're correct. I think I can count on one hand
- 14:04where that has happened, like so it's very rare or like my own
- 14:09Spidey sense I can detect like this person, be this person, be
- 14:13an ass, don't. Bother I would I would like to
- 14:16think that I would like to think that I usually within a few
- 14:20minutes of knowing somebody, get a good vibe or a bad bad vibe
- 14:22from me. But when you're young, you're
- 14:24not tapped into that or don't understand it.
- 14:26So it's gotten better as I've gotten older.
- 14:28But, but I still think I, I think some of the biggest
- 14:31lessons I've ever learned, and we can say this for another
- 14:34podcast is I have, I have made, you know, errors in judgement in
- 14:40terms of judging someone before I really knew them.
- 14:43And we'll do this in a different podcast.
- 14:45And, and I, and I look back that I myself did not give people
- 14:49chances because of my own, like you said, of my own getting
- 14:53picked on and different things that happened.
- 14:56I closed myself off and didn't allow myself to because you're
- 15:01because when you're young, you're in survival mode
- 15:05especially, especially if you're getting picked on.
- 15:07So your guards up, your Shields up, and your.
- 15:09Home life isn't like you're trying to survive both realms,
- 15:13home life and school life and and it's a lot.
- 15:16It's daunting. And I've also said about about
- 15:19bullies. I know some people, hey, let's
- 15:21just be realistic. Some people are just mean, just
- 15:24plain and simple, whether they have a good life or a bad life.
- 15:27Some people are just mean. But on the flip side, I've also
- 15:29learned that some people that I thought were really mean, you
- 15:34know, we sat down with the conversation and I realized, Oh
- 15:36my gosh, they had abuse on their side, hence their meanness or
- 15:40their their their defense shield was to pick on people to be
- 15:46superior because in their home life, they're they were greatly
- 15:49abused too. So you kind of try to find that
- 15:52that middle ground in that, in that situation.
- 15:55So anyway, shout out to Kate and she's awesome and and I was just
- 15:59surprised that she was listening so.
- 16:02Thank you for listening, Kate. Yeah, absolutely.
- 16:05And of course, she probably misses this whole thing.
- 16:06She probably didn't even hear this part.
- 16:07Probably or she like fast forwarded through.
- 16:10She's like, OK, that's enough, that's enough, OK, enough,
- 16:12enough of that. All right, so I know Michelle,
- 16:14now I'm going to unset the table and it's all Michelle.
- 16:17Michelle, what you got going on? Well, yeah, so a lot of things
- 16:20have happened with me, but yesterday the doctor upset me.
- 16:23So I really wanted to talk about this.
- 16:24And I might cry and I don't and I don't even know why.
- 16:27So. So my knee has been bothering me
- 16:30and it's the one that I had the meniscus transplant on in 2021,
- 16:35which I first injured my meniscus in 2017.
- 16:38And that's when I had surgery that kind of like cut out the
- 16:41tear, whatever. So this has been going on like
- 16:4310 years. So my knees been bothering me.
- 16:45I'm like, OK, I'll go in and see my regular doctor and see what
- 16:50she wants to do. I just thought maybe it's just
- 16:52some residual from that surgery because once in a while it will
- 16:56kick up and bother me, especially if it swells up blah,
- 16:59blah, blah. So she sends me in to get an
- 17:01X-ray. I get I got an X-ray and then I
- 17:04happen to go into my chart. You know how you can look at the
- 17:08results? So this was the result.
- 17:11It says significant degeneration, changes of the
- 17:14left knee, medial joint compartment space, which that's
- 17:17the inside medial, significant loss of joint space and early
- 17:22medial osteo. So I don't know how to say that.
- 17:25Word is that osteoporosis or whatever.
- 17:27No, it's no, it's not osteoporosis.
- 17:29It's something different, I don't know, significant
- 17:32worsening since previous exam, which the X-ray I would have had
- 17:36prior to this one would have been before my meniscus surgery.
- 17:39So you would have expected that it would have been better.
- 17:43And so I was like, oh shit. So I wanted to go see my surgeon
- 17:50in Seattle that did the meniscus transplant.
- 17:53So I called her office, left a message like, hey, can you call
- 17:56me back? I want to get a referral to go
- 17:58see Doctor Garcia. And she calls me back and
- 18:02immediately she says, I'm sure that you, you know, saw your
- 18:07X-ray results in your my chart. She's like, yeah, you're going
- 18:10to need a total knee replacement.
- 18:12Like right off the bat. This is what she says.
- 18:14And I am, I don't know if I just wasn't prepared for that or
- 18:17what, but I was like, what? And then she's like, yeah,
- 18:22you're pretty young. So I'm not sure what surgeon is
- 18:25going to do that, which normally they don't.
- 18:28Usually they do knee replacements when you're like
- 18:306065 because those joints only last like 10 to 15 years, 20
- 18:35years at Max. So you would have to have a
- 18:38revision, you'd have to have another knee replacement at some
- 18:40point in time typically is what happens.
- 18:43And so I'm just, I'm a little bit stunned because I'm like
- 18:47what? And I tell her, well, I'm like,
- 18:50I, and she's like, I'll send over the referral for ortho here
- 18:54in Yakima. And I'm like, no, no, no, no,
- 18:56no. I'm like, I, I want to go to
- 18:58Seattle. I'm not seeing anyone in Yakima.
- 19:02And I'm like, and Doctor Garcia is going to want an MRI and
- 19:05she's like, no, I am not. She kind of like almost yells at
- 19:08me. She's like, I am not going to
- 19:10order a $5000 test when your knee joint is completely gone
- 19:15and the only option is a total knee replacement.
- 19:18And I don't know if like if all that is just what I mean.
- 19:21I didn't cry on the phone. It was like after because I was
- 19:24like, what in the actual hell? Like I, I don't want a knee
- 19:29replacement because like it just really limits like your movement
- 19:37typically. And so I'm just like, holy shit.
- 19:42But she's going to send the referral over.
- 19:43She's like, if Doctor Garcia wants an ex, an MRI, then he'll
- 19:47tell me that. And so now I'm waiting for his
- 19:51office to call. But I know like if he tells me
- 19:56like there's no other option, then there's no other option
- 19:59because there are things like a cartilage transplant along with
- 20:03the like, yeah, I think it's like ostectomy or whatever it's
- 20:07called where they like cut part of the bone out so that they can
- 20:11so that they can make space. I know it's gonna be.
- 20:15It would be horrible whichever way I have to go.
- 20:19But I know like there are those options that I'm not sure that
- 20:22they do here in Yakima. So I don't know if she just
- 20:25doesn't know about them. There's also a new thing.
- 20:28It's called Misha, which is almost like a little like shock
- 20:31absorber, but it's only good if only one side of your knee and
- 20:36and it's the medial, which is what I have the inside.
- 20:38It's only good if it's only that side of your knee.
- 20:43And so it's like almost like a shock on a car is literally what
- 20:46it looks like. Cuz I was like researching all
- 20:48this like, what are my other options like Oh my God.
- 20:53Anyway, So yeah, that just upset me.
- 20:56I don't know. I I don't know why.
- 20:58I don't know if it was just like how she like talked to me or
- 21:03just the fact that like I could like chances are high that I'm
- 21:08going to have to have a total knee replacement and at my age
- 21:1151, like that's, that's pretty young.
- 21:15There will there are surgeons that will do it, but still that
- 21:19it's just it was a lot. It was a lot and here.
- 21:22I think you're in your 40s, so. Thank you, I didn't.
- 21:26Realize isn't Isn't it funny if you if you know someone for so
- 21:31long that you have no idea what their their age is so like or
- 21:35you just. Think like we stay like that
- 21:37age. Yeah, I didn't realize that.
- 21:39Yeah, I, yeah, we do. It's like so funny.
- 21:42It's like, yeah, I that's like you said it.
- 21:48But I mean, I'm sure they've had to do that for other people
- 21:51before. The knee replacements or just.
- 21:54Yeah, 'cause not, yeah, I mean, I said even this.
- 21:58The surgeons will do it like they prefer not to until you get
- 22:02older. But if that's my only option and
- 22:04Doctor Garcia will tell me, like, if my chances are not good
- 22:08with like a cartilage transplant and all this other stuff, he'll
- 22:11he'll tell me he'll be like look like, yeah, like you're.
- 22:15There really isn't any other option.
- 22:18Or if are you in? I can are.
- 22:20You in a lot of pain. Yes, and it's gotten like
- 22:24progressively worse with just within the last couple months.
- 22:27I don't know what has happened. I haven't done anything.
- 22:31I haven't like fallen down. There hasn't been anything
- 22:35that's happened to me that would, you know, injure it.
- 22:39So again, I don't know if it's just old age and times just
- 22:43catching up to me. I I don't know, it doesn't make
- 22:46any sense why it's just all of a sudden bothering me.
- 22:49But again, I'm getting older and maybe my bones are just
- 22:52deteriorating. You like and you like this
- 22:54doctor. You like this doctor, though,
- 22:55You Doctor Garcia. You like this doctor.
- 22:59And Doctor Garcia, he's like super cute.
- 23:03That's besides the point. I didn't know that when I first
- 23:05found him though, so that was just out of bonus.
- 23:09But it was my regular doctor that was the one that called
- 23:13and. Said I'm not gonna do a $5000.
- 23:16Well, I guess. And just the way she's, I guess
- 23:18they're protecting her. I guess they're protecting your
- 23:20pocketbook, I guess. Right, but I'm but she could
- 23:23have said it nicer. Not like I mean, just her tone
- 23:27of voice. It was just like and she raised
- 23:29her voice like weird woman. I just, I know that he's gonna
- 23:35want this or he's or, or they're just gonna say, I can't help
- 23:40you, I'll refer you to someone because he doesn't do knee
- 23:43replacements, but other doctors in that same office do, right?
- 23:48So he'll, he'll just say you have to go see Doctor Peterson
- 23:51or, you know, whatever. It is.
- 23:53I can't imagine that being cheap for a knee replacement.
- 23:57No, I mean none of these things, even if I have to have like a
- 24:00cartilage transplant and ostectomy, any of that like
- 24:04combination of stuff that's not going to be cheap either.
- 24:07And that is like bone and soft tissue.
- 24:11So you cannot be weight bearing kind of like my meniscus where I
- 24:14could not be weight bearing for like 8 weeks.
- 24:16And it was, it was, it was a lot.
- 24:19It was it, it was a lot. But with a knee replacement like
- 24:24they have you like up and walking like the the day you
- 24:27come out of surgery basically. So I know this because my mom
- 24:31has had both of her knees replaced so.
- 24:33Yeah, well, maybe it's. I wonder if maybe it's a family
- 24:36thing? Oh, it's definitely, Oh yeah,
- 24:39it's totally family thing. And yeah, yeah, it's just
- 24:44genetics probably. I know genetics is the genetics
- 24:47play such such a key role in all of our health and people don't
- 24:52realize, you know, realize that you know, one person can keep
- 24:56all the. Stupid stuff I did younger, I
- 24:58mean, and riding horses that pretty rough on your knees, all
- 25:02the stuff that. All these different things, but
- 25:04yeah, it's always, it's always crazy that one person can eat a
- 25:08cheeseburger till the day they die every single day and not
- 25:10gain a pound and then the next person is.
- 25:12A super healthy person is just dying of a heart attack at like
- 25:1645 or something, yeah. It's just, it's just genetics or
- 25:19yeah, so well, I'm sorry that happened to you.
- 25:22And but I mean, we'll just have to wait till the results, right?
- 25:26Well, well, I'm gonna call Doctor Garcia's office.
- 25:30I mean, she sent the referral over, but I'm going to call them
- 25:34probably. Like get my head up after.
- 25:35We're done with this pot. Yeah.
- 25:36Or be like, hey, my doctor sent this referral.
- 25:39When can I come over? Like, anyway, yeah, OK.
- 25:44Also another thing I want to ask you guess which one of my kids
- 25:48that my brother thinks is doing drugs?
- 25:52Oh, this would be fun. This will be.
- 25:56Fun. This will be fun.
- 25:57So I'm going to go and this is and if I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but
- 26:01I I'm going to go with Jackson. You're correct.
- 26:04Of course, because I follow Jackson on Instagram, not that
- 26:07he's doing anything, not that he's doing anything wrong.
- 26:10I'm just saying of the kids, you know, I'm going to say Jackson
- 26:14right now is probably the wild child.
- 26:16Well, Matthew was probably. I think Matthew beats them all,
- 26:21but. Yes, I like.
- 26:23Brother. I like your son's really quick
- 26:26before we get to it. I like your son's.
- 26:28Isn't it JJ at your mom's house? Yeah, OK.
- 26:32There you go, his Instagram. Is JJ at your mom's house?
- 26:36Well, yeah, but you know how like the.
- 26:38That's funny when you. Say you yeah, you know, when you
- 26:41say something to them, their response is your mom.
- 26:44And it drives me crazy because I'm like, I am your mom.
- 26:48And then they're like wrong your and I'm like kind of like the
- 26:51whole 6 seven thing. All right, right, but.
- 26:55But Oh my gosh, so. Yeah, so.
- 26:57Yeah, yeah. My brother came over to borrow
- 27:01some of our tables and chairs for his wife's birthday party,
- 27:03and he kind of pulled me aside. It was super weird.
- 27:07He was like, this has been bothering me since Easter.
- 27:13It's something that I saw, but I wanted to let you know.
- 27:16And I was just like, OK, I thought it was going to be
- 27:19something about our mom, but no, he's like, I think that Jackson
- 27:25is shooting up drugs. And I was like, what?
- 27:30I think I was in shock. I did not know what to say.
- 27:34And he's like, yeah, I saw, you know, how like the right inside
- 27:38your elbow, the little, I don't know what that's technically
- 27:40called the little crease there. He's like, yeah, I saw what
- 27:43looked like track marks. And I was like, I was like, OK,
- 27:48I'm like, well, Jackson does have a skin disease like
- 27:51psoriasis or it's similar to psoriasis.
- 27:54And I was like, OK, I'm like, you know, thanks.
- 27:58Thanks for telling me. I get that he's coming from a
- 28:03place of concern. He used to work at a treatment
- 28:05facility, whatever. And so I asked Jackson, I'm
- 28:10like, Jackson, you are you shooting up drugs?
- 28:13Because I know he isn't. He wore a shirt where his like
- 28:16sleeves were rolled up. If you're like shooting up
- 28:19drugs, you're not going to be hiring a shirt.
- 28:21Yes, exactly. Sure.
- 28:23And he's even he was like what he was like speechless.
- 28:27Again, we know he smokes weed. He's over 21, so there's nothing
- 28:32we could do about it. It's kind of like you with
- 28:34Logan, like they're old enough to buy it and do it, so you
- 28:38can't. Consume it.
- 28:40Exactly. You can't tell them no, they're
- 28:42legally old enough. And he's like, well I do have
- 28:46like he has like 2 little moles that are like right there in the
- 28:50crease of. So we don't know if that's what
- 28:54my brother saw. I'm sure it was.
- 28:56I'm sure what, but I am just like, what in the world?
- 29:00My brother's like, you know, just so you can get him some
- 29:03treatment early. That's.
- 29:04Hilarious. Like a That's hilarious.
- 29:07What, out of everybody's kids, like between his and mine, you
- 29:11think mine is the one that's going to be shooting up drugs, I
- 29:14mean. Yeah, he saw the moles.
- 29:16He saw the two moles next to the the elbow.
- 29:18And what? Oh, that's, you know.
- 29:20I was just speechless. So is Jackson.
- 29:24I couldn't believe it. But I mean, now it's kind of
- 29:27funny looking back at it. But.
- 29:28And if he was doing it like, there would be other signs like.
- 29:33Well, there's a ton of other. He would be like failing school
- 29:36for one, and he's not so so yeah.
- 29:40No, there'd be a lot of, there'd be a lot of different songs,
- 29:43yeah. Like his personality would
- 29:45change. Yeah.
- 29:47So yeah, yeah, again, we were just in shock and I was like,
- 29:53what in the world? What like disbelief?
- 29:58I think that that is even was something that he even went to
- 30:04thinking would be possible that my brother thought that, but I
- 30:08don't know so. I picked the right kid, that's
- 30:11all. Yeah, I get.
- 30:12You did, Yes, I get. The Gold Star for the day
- 30:14because I picked the right kid, but that was process of
- 30:17elimination, so. Right, right.
- 30:20But the kids all tell me Matthew is not the Angel.
- 30:23So that's the. Game even though even though he
- 30:25may come off as the Angel, he's not the Angel that.
- 30:28Well, I think now that he's gotten away from home, he's been
- 30:32a little bit more experimental, so.
- 30:34OK, all right, all right. Yeah, which is not things you
- 30:37want to hear as a parent, so. What do you do?
- 30:40What do you do? What do you do?
- 30:42I mean, it's one of those things where it's.
- 30:43Like, because they're, they're all adults, you can't, you can't
- 30:47tell them, hey, don't do this like they're adults and they're
- 30:51going to make decisions for themselves.
- 30:54All we have to. Do is hope that you've given
- 30:56them the best tools to? Yeah, That's all you can do now.
- 30:58Yeah. Are you in that?
- 31:00Yeah. Are you in that camp that
- 31:02marijuana is the gateway drug? No.
- 31:06To to to harder drugs. You think that do you think do
- 31:09you? But do you think marijuana is
- 31:10addictive? Oh, yes, definitely, yeah.
- 31:14I think. In the yeah, like younger
- 31:16brains, especially Jackson's probably isn't good.
- 31:20I think it's not good for the younger brains, but it's, it's
- 31:25been shown to help people with like PTSD and chronic pain.
- 31:31So I can't just be like, no, it's bad or I think there's real
- 31:36positives to it as. Well, yeah, well, Logan and I go
- 31:39around and around the same. With mushrooms, I think there's
- 31:41a real positive with psychedelics.
- 31:46Yeah, not you already know not my you know, don't drink, don't
- 31:49smoke. What do you do?
- 31:50Good. 2 shoes. Adam Ant.
- 31:52So I'm not the I'm not the guy to talk about, but the but the
- 31:55reason for me is just it for me, it all just stems back to my
- 31:58childhood. It's like I just have I just
- 32:01have it has nothing. I always tell people they're
- 32:02like, oh, you're religious. I'm like, no, I grew up around
- 32:06it. So I have no desire to be but.
- 32:08Did you only did you only grow up around Alcoholics or was
- 32:12there other? Yeah, well, Alcoholics.
- 32:14I mean, there's. No, I mean, there's smoke.
- 32:17I mean smoking cigs, you know, smoking cigs 24/7 that, you
- 32:21know, all my, all my bro, all my siblings smoke.
- 32:24I don't smoke, but they all smoke, you know.
- 32:26And so the Wallaces smoked, the Wallaces smoked, but my foster
- 32:32parents didn't smoke. So am I and, and, and I and
- 32:36would they have an occasional drink yet?
- 32:38But they didn't drink. So they weren't like every night
- 32:41drinkers after the crack open. But the Wallaces were much more.
- 32:45Yeah, the Wallaces were different.
- 32:47Mr. Wallace was definitely a drinker.
- 32:49My dad was a drinker. My mom was a drinker.
- 32:51I mean, I've said my, my cousins are drinkers.
- 32:54I mean, real power drinkers, real mean people drinking.
- 32:56I always, I always talk about it.
- 32:58It's like there's only two ways to be drunk, and you're either a
- 33:00happy or drunk or you're mean drunk.
- 33:02And for some reason, our family had the mean drunks.
- 33:05And so it just was not a fun thing to to grow up around.
- 33:08So, yeah, I'm just curious about, I was just curious about
- 33:10that. So that's, that's for me.
- 33:10That's why I don't, it's just, you know, and I've never had it.
- 33:13It's just never been one of those things where I always
- 33:16joke, I take my pain straight up.
- 33:17I don't escape, you know? Right.
- 33:20I mean, I've had a gum here too. It's just makes.
- 33:24Me hungry. Yeah, Megan knows more about it.
- 33:27Megan knows more about these things than I do for sure.
- 33:29And you know, but. But you know, Logan calls it his
- 33:32night night medicine and my and Patty, my Co host.
- 33:35Interesting. So Patty recently went to the
- 33:39went to the pot shop. She's thinking about endorsing
- 33:42them or whatever. And so she got so she got
- 33:44gummies and and to fall asleep better because she said it
- 33:48helped you sleep whatever. She came back the next morning
- 33:51and goes, Oh, my God. She goes, I am not, I am not a
- 33:54pot person, you know, because it made her feel really weird.
- 33:58Yeah. Yeah.
- 33:59So. So I don't know.
- 34:00I have to ask her if she, if she did didn't, you know, take
- 34:02anymore. But she was using it to go to
- 34:04sleep. Right.
- 34:05It depends on like the milligrams, how much you're
- 34:07taking, yes. Absolutely.
- 34:10Absolutely. So, you know, it's one of those
- 34:12things and down the road I'm, I may need those, I don't know,
- 34:16but. But if you if you if your knees
- 34:19get blown out, you have a choice.
- 34:21Well, so the difference, Michelle, Michelle, between you
- 34:24and I in, in 50 years of living on this planet, I've tried to do
- 34:28as little physical activity as humanly possible.
- 34:31So, So the elbows and the joints are pretty good.
- 34:34You know what I mean? This, this is all I do for a
- 34:36living, right? So, so the, you know, and then,
- 34:40and then it's like, you know, the, you know, trying to go run
- 34:43on a treadmill at high speed, you know, because so Cheryl, our
- 34:46old boss was a huge treadmill runner.
- 34:49She'd literally go, she'd go home at lunch and run on a
- 34:52treadmill. Well, about 10 years ago,
- 34:54whatever, she wasn't running anymore.
- 34:56And I said, oh, what happened? She goes, my, my knees are shot,
- 34:58They're blown. Doctor said I'm going to need
- 35:01knee replacement down the road because of all my running.
- 35:04Like runners especially that it greatly happens to them more
- 35:08than. The rest of us and I went and I
- 35:10went, see, see this, This is why I This is why I go in and talk.
- 35:15This is it. Right.
- 35:17Remember when I suckered you into going to the gym?
- 35:20Oh. Yeah, we had fun.
- 35:21We did a while. Yeah.
- 35:22Yeah. I love that.
- 35:23There's some great photos. I still let.
- 35:24Yeah. Yes.
- 35:25Yeah. Yeah, you know, but yeah, that's
- 35:27I'm, I'm good for a light workout, a light workout.
- 35:30I am not anybody who knows me. It's like, I'm not, I'm not
- 35:34trying to put up a personal record.
- 35:35I'm not trying to impress anybody.
- 35:37I it's it, it it's just not a it's just not a Oh my gosh.
- 35:41Number one, it's not a desire for me.
- 35:42I just never. Yeah.
- 35:44I mean, you do feel good after a good workout, but but when I'm
- 35:47at Orangetheory or wherever it's it's like for me it's not about,
- 35:50oh, what did I run last week? Oh, I run that.
- 35:52I need to Yeah, no. The people that I was like, I
- 35:56know are the people that would work out so intensely that then
- 36:01they would throw up. I'm like, no, no, not for me, no
- 36:04thank you. But that's the worst.
- 36:07Believe that. Well, my worst experience with
- 36:11you and I was when Micah was going through his phase where he
- 36:15was going to that personal trainer and that you remember
- 36:18how Micah Cifa's bulked up. And so he goes, hey, I want you
- 36:21to go on a workout with me. So we went over to what is it
- 36:24Balasteries? Cafe.
- 36:26Oh yeah, yeah. Balasteries Cafe And so he goes.
- 36:29He goes. You got to carve up, man.
- 36:30You got to carve up before the workout.
- 36:32So we had sausage, we had eggs, we had bacon, blah, blah, blah,
- 36:35whatever we had. And then we went and worked out.
- 36:38Oh God. I discovered something in that
- 36:41process is if I work out, I cannot eat before I work out
- 36:45because guess who was up chucking and who was like, no,
- 36:48because it's like, so I learned that when I work out, I have to
- 36:52work out on a, on an empty stomach.
- 36:54I am not a carb up, you know, and then go run a couple miles.
- 36:59No, I need to be light on my, you know, and I learned less.
- 37:01I felt sick. I was like deathly ill because
- 37:06because of that. And I learned real quick, OK,
- 37:07yeah, that's not that's not how I work out.
- 37:09Yeah, Yeah. No, I think I would maybe have a
- 37:13protein bar, if that. Before maybe.
- 37:15Exactly. Exactly.
- 37:17Usually, yeah, if I'm working out, I go out.
- 37:19Or like, you know what, as my wife says, I OK, Hey, full
- 37:23transparency. I don't work out.
- 37:25I go walk a couple miles on the treadmill.
- 37:27That's it. At my own I mean.
- 37:29Walking. At my own pace.
- 37:30The best thing for you, especially people at our ages.
- 37:34Yeah. So, yeah, Well, yeah, with your
- 37:36broken knee, absolutely. You know, I mean, do they
- 37:39encourage you to walk? Probably not right now.
- 37:43Well I mean they will want it strengthened regardless of if I
- 37:48have to have a knee replacement or some of these other
- 37:50surgeries. They will want the muscle
- 37:53strong. So physical therapy is on my
- 37:56horizon before surgery probably is my guess.
- 37:59So. Which is going to wear?
- 38:01Do you wear a? Do you wear a?
- 38:03Is it a brace? Do you wear a brace?
- 38:04I started wearing 1 today because it was really bothering
- 38:08me. Like I could hear it like
- 38:10grinding and catching when I was going up and down the stairs and
- 38:13I'm like. Oh, no, yeah, None of that.
- 38:16Oh yeah, None of that. None of that.
- 38:19I, I I still live by my same thing that I've told everybody
- 38:22for the last 50 years. If I can't pronounce it, I don't
- 38:25have it. That's not.
- 38:28Plain and simple. Plain and simple.
- 38:31I know, but that's how that's how I that's how I work.
- 38:34Like if I can't pronounce it, if I go to the doctor and they say
- 38:36you have blahdy, blah, blah, blah, I'm like, I don't have
- 38:38that. I can't pronounce it.
- 38:39I don't know what you're. Talking about OK, where I'm like
- 38:43researching this shit, like what are other alternatives to knee
- 38:47replacements like the Macy and the Misha and all these other
- 38:51things. I'm like, I am not going, I'm
- 38:54not going down without a fight like which probably might not
- 39:03even be an option for me at all, but at least I'm trying to
- 39:07figure out what else is out there.
- 39:09I was even trying to find like clinical trials for anything
- 39:13that's going on for knees that would be alternatives to knee
- 39:17replacements. But yeah, they're, they're not
- 39:21happening right now or they're all closed or done or anyway,
- 39:25that's how, that's how desperate I was yesterday, like.
- 39:28When you go to like so we went to Vegas a few years back.
- 39:31It was the first time for Megan to go into Vegas.
- 39:34I learned a valuable lesson in Vegas.
- 39:36I didn't realize, OK, the strip, it looks like it's easy to walk.
- 39:40It's not that is that is that is that is an illusion because
- 39:43you're like, oh, there's the big pyramid or there's the
- 39:45whatevers. There's Caesars.
- 39:46We could walk to that. Oh no, their.
- 39:48Hotel blocks are like, we think it's like a block, but it's
- 39:53technically like 5 blocks. Thank you, thank you.
- 39:56We've learned, we really, we learned really quick why the
- 39:59tram exists and why you jump the tram and go.
- 40:02But we, you know, we tried, you know, like you said, we tried
- 40:04to, to, to buff it in different things.
- 40:06That's it. That's the first timer, yeah.
- 40:08Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 40:09No, no, we didn't. Oh yeah, we learned.
- 40:10But we learned quick. Like within half a day we're
- 40:12like, OK, let's get the tram. Especially if it's hot out it.
- 40:16It will take you if you do. If you want to walk from one end
- 40:20of the strip to the other, it will take you at least a good
- 40:23hour, if not more. You're looking at like an hour,
- 40:26hour and a half round trip. Two hours.
- 40:29And that was one of the also the biggest lessons I learned
- 40:31because I hadn't been to Vegas in a billion years was I was
- 40:34overdressed in terms of like, like you said, when we started
- 40:37walking around, we had to go to Ross Dress for us.
- 40:40I'm like, I'm like, why is there a Ross Dress for less in the
- 40:42middle of the Strip? Duh, because I realized all the
- 40:46clothes I bought or brought was like, not in this heat.
- 40:49Right. Yeah, idiot.
- 40:52I think it was. And I think it was September.
- 40:53I think it was even September and it was still pretty warm.
- 40:55Oh yeah, we go in October for the Gaming Show and it's still
- 40:59in the 80s. So yeah, yeah, so valuable
- 41:02lesson learned. So, so yeah, Vegas is, you know,
- 41:05just, you know, you think, oh, I'll just walk this.
- 41:07No so, so when you walk, go to Vegas, I assume you're not
- 41:10walking a lot because of the. No, we Uber even if it's like
- 41:14across the street. And if it's hot then yeah, yeah.
- 41:17I mean, usually we are dressed up because we're going to some
- 41:19fancy dinner function or whatever.
- 41:21So yeah, I'm not walking it in the heat.
- 41:25And if I'm all dressed up. But now I have learned I don't
- 41:28wear like the four inch heels. I can't anymore.
- 41:33So I'll wear like a fatter chunkier heel, like 2 to 3
- 41:37inches, but even then those will kill me by the end of the night,
- 41:40so. Yeah, so the Slutty Hills are
- 41:42out now I. Guess yeah yeah, I know it's sad
- 41:47I had to sell a bunch of them I had some really cute ones that I
- 41:51was like Oh my God and some of them I never even got to wear
- 41:54like they were like brand brand new that I had to sell because
- 41:58they were yeah yeah they. Were like the stripper girls I
- 42:00always joke about you know, it's like I mean it's like I just I
- 42:06just don't get how it like this yeah, I don't get it because.
- 42:09You've had to wear heels, Haven't you done the like walk
- 42:11in her shoes? Oh, yeah, for like the wire,
- 42:13whatever. Yeah.
- 42:14Yeah. Oh yeah, it absolutely.
- 42:17Oh, which reminds me, we remember we had Doughboy Twinkie
- 42:20do that, Justin. Yes, yeah, he.
- 42:23Passed away. I know what happened.
- 42:25Do we know what happened? From what I hear, I think
- 42:28somebody, I think Todd or somebody put it up that it was a
- 42:30car accident. Oh.
- 42:32My God, but but I don't know any more than that.
- 42:34So it was just a shocker. And young, what was he?
- 42:37Probably 30, late 30s maybe if he's lucky.
- 42:39Yeah, I would say late 30s, maybe early 40s.
- 42:42Yeah, it was one of those. It was one of those things, I
- 42:43saw a bunch of people in Yakima posting about it and that was
- 42:46very sad. But but we did have Justin.
- 42:48One of the first things he did is on the Cape for the morning
- 42:51show was walking or heels. He hated it.
- 42:53He hated it. Most men hate it, yeah.
- 42:57Yeah, absolutely. It's like, yeah.
- 43:02Yeah, I mean, it's good. It's good.
- 43:04I think it's good for you men to experience a little bit of what
- 43:08we as women go through every day.
- 43:11Like there are some women that wear heels every day, like
- 43:14Jesse, remember, Jesse would wear heels every day.
- 43:17And I'd be like, girl, like, how do you do this?
- 43:19Like I can barely manage like one night.
- 43:22On a weekend, yeah. No, If I if I was a girl, they'd
- 43:25be flat like my shoes would be flat.
- 43:28Right. Or you'd just be in like comfy
- 43:30tenor shoes. Or yeah, exactly.
- 43:32Yeah. They just say, oh, there goes
- 43:34there goes the lesbian Rick. Because that's probably about
- 43:36what it would be. So it is.
- 43:38Converse Well, it was so funny was because we I and I'll just
- 43:45drop this one from a funny thing from Cheryl was having for most
- 43:51of my life when I was younger, being accused of being gay,
- 43:54which is whatever, you know, I'm saying like when you were school
- 43:56or whatever. And it's so many people have
- 43:59approached Cheryl through the years and going and they go I
- 44:02they go, Oh, I think Rick's gay and Cheryl goes, he's not gay,
- 44:05he's lesbian. And they go, What do you mean?
- 44:08And he goes he likes women. He's a horrific dresser,
- 44:10horrific dresser, and he has horrible taste in music.
- 44:13He's a lesbian. Oh my God, that's sad.
- 44:16So she would tell people, she would, she would tell people
- 44:19that you're like, oh, I think Rick's gay.
- 44:21And they're like I. Mean and you do have a Subaru.
- 44:23Yeah, when you're now Megan does Megan, Megan does Megan does
- 44:27Yeah, so, but it's just a Subaru.
- 44:29And dogs. Yeah, we got Subaru and dogs.
- 44:31We got the whole, yeah, we got the whole pack.
- 44:32But it was just always funny how people would respond to her
- 44:34because we were on the. So when Cheryl was here in
- 44:38Tri-cities, we were on the gay bowling bowling league.
- 44:42So I was on, so I was on the gay bowling league and there was
- 44:44court and a bunch and there's a bunch of guys on that the team.
- 44:47And The funny thing being on the gay bowling league was hilarious
- 44:50because they call me Breeder. Oh, there's the breeder, you
- 44:53know, because I come up, you know, and then it was funny
- 44:56during the process was we had a young man, his name.
- 44:59Oh God, I can't think of his name off the top of my head, but
- 45:02he was really struggling with his sexuality.
- 45:05And so we were, we were sitting down at a party that Cheryl was
- 45:09showing. And at that time he was dating a
- 45:12girl. He was dating a girl.
- 45:14And he sat down with me and he goes, he goes when did you know?
- 45:17And I go, what do you mean? When did you know he goes?
- 45:20Well, when did he when he goes, when did you know about your
- 45:21sexuality or you know, and you were gay?
- 45:25I said I what? What's that?
- 45:27Did he think you were gay? Yeah, yeah, he goes.
- 45:29No. When did you?
- 45:30I was like when? Did you when did you come out or
- 45:32what did you know? He was struggling, there was no
- 45:34doubt. I could see that he was
- 45:36struggling because of his family.
- 45:39So he had a girlfriend because that's what was expected in his
- 45:42family. And so he was like, Hey, when,
- 45:45when did you come out? You know, with your.
- 45:48And I said, I said, well, I, I, I, I said, I don't know what
- 45:52you're talking. I mean, I was that I said I'm,
- 45:54I'm hetero and, and, and, but we had a nice talk about it and,
- 45:59and I, and then the next thing I know he was dating a guy.
- 46:02Well, so so. Whenever he said must have.
- 46:05Well, I, I, well, I, you know me, I'm a big, you got to be
- 46:08you, you got to be who you are. I mean, and if and if I was, and
- 46:13you know, I look back like if I was, I, I would have, I don't
- 46:17know. No one, no one in high school,
- 46:18at least in our school was going to, would come out.
- 46:20So the people who were in our high school never came out in
- 46:23high school. Right.
- 46:24Not till. They came out as adults.
- 46:26Yeah. Yeah, so especially.
- 46:28For our generation Gen. X, you know, that's, that's
- 46:33pretty common. And then luckily.
- 46:35I always feel it's I I think it's tough because it's like you
- 46:39just knew and I just knew. But think about the young man I
- 46:42was talking to where he really struggled it because his family
- 46:45was like, this is wrong. So he's dating a girl and he's
- 46:49struggling with it when that's really not who he was.
- 46:51And then and I see him years later and he's dating three guys
- 46:55at the same time. So I was like, OK, that OK, Hey,
- 47:01different he different strokes. He is that is that called?
- 47:06What is it polyamorous? What's the one where it's
- 47:08multiple partners? He might have been in a
- 47:10throuple. It might.
- 47:11Have been a. Isn't it a truffle or?
- 47:14I think it's a throuple. Well, there was three of them,
- 47:16it was him and then there was three guys.
- 47:19So that might even be more than a throuple, because the throuple
- 47:21is 3. So what is that?
- 47:23Yeah, a quadruple. I don't know.
- 47:26What is that? Called Oh, his name was Alex.
- 47:29Alex was his name. Great kid, great kid Alex, but
- 47:32it was quite the 180 U-turn to where it's like, oh, what a nice
- 47:36person that he's dating this girl.
- 47:38Then suddenly, oh, hey, here is Jeff, John and Jack.
- 47:41What you're like, what happened? So, but but I just remember that
- 47:47conversation when he when he walked up to me, he goes.
- 47:49So when did you know and when did you come out like what?
- 47:52It's like, I'm not out. I don't understand what you're
- 47:55talking about, but so, so, but I still so to the day, if you ever
- 48:00you know, as Cheryl says, he's a he's a lesbian.
- 48:03Yeah. Horrible, horrible taste in
- 48:05music. He loves the 80s which is.
- 48:06This is a shout Outback to Kate Kate, my friend Caitlin.
- 48:10She's a massive 80s fan, so we bond over.
- 48:13She has great 80s musical taste and she's a hardcore 80s fan and
- 48:18so whenever I follow her on Insta, she's always rocking the
- 48:2080s jam. So nice.
- 48:22Shout out back back to Caitlin on that.
- 48:24Right. Which, Speaking of that, did you
- 48:25decide if you're going to go see Mr. Page in July?
- 48:28I have not, no, but I did get, I did get my real ID.
- 48:32So that was today and it took no time.
- 48:34I was really surprised. But you had an appointment.
- 48:37Yep, Yep, had an. Appointment point that out to
- 48:39everyone so everyone just doesn't go down to the DMV and
- 48:42end up waiting hours so. Yep, and as and you know, I
- 48:45joke, before we got the podcast started, it was probably because
- 48:47I'm white and male. It was made it easier for me.
- 48:50She didn't even blink an eye. But no, I had all the I had all
- 48:52the I had all the documents and then tomorrow I'm going to the
- 48:55skin doctor, which that'll be a a hoot.
- 48:58So remember I had that thing on my.
- 49:01Face that you were picking. Well, it's, but it's gone now.
- 49:04Well, well. Megan's mom, First off, said
- 49:08something to you the last time you saw her.
- 49:11And so that's what has kind of. Well, yes.
- 49:14Pushed you to to do this, or made it so that now you're
- 49:19self-conscious. Then I just jammed.
- 49:20Yeah, then I just started jamming.
- 49:25Get it off, get off, get off, get off.
- 49:27Go back and look at our previous podcast.
- 49:29You can definitely see. So yeah, but but tomorrow I'm
- 49:32going to go in. I'm going to just double check,
- 49:34double check because we were talking about that.
- 49:37We were talking about skin disease and I did get this stuff
- 49:40checked out and I have this hereditary skin disease where
- 49:43I've got little see how that little dark spot?
- 49:47But it's not, it's not moles. It's not, it's not, you know,
- 49:51pores, pores or anything. No, it's none of that stuff.
- 49:54But but I'm getting it more and more the older I get.
- 49:57So I'm going to go get it checked out just to make dose
- 49:59double check. Right.
- 50:01So maybe next week when you see when we see you, that spot will
- 50:04be gone and. I don't know.
- 50:06I mean, I mean, I don't think he's going to.
- 50:07I mean, there's nothing going on with it, so.
- 50:09I mean, if you. Want some Crawford birthmark?
- 50:12What? It's not bothering me as long as
- 50:16hey, as long as it's not. If you don't mind it, then oh, I
- 50:19don't. They'll probably leave it, but
- 50:21they probably will ask you if you want it removed.
- 50:23So yeah. Well, just as you were talking
- 50:26earlier about old age, I mean, I'm just starting to see.
- 50:28I mean it's just old age, you start seeing bumps and stuff
- 50:31that never existed before so. When I sent you that flexi derm
- 50:35or you're going to order? Something so I'm going to check
- 50:37that stuff out. I'm just going to I think I'm
- 50:38just going to start wearing makeup.
- 50:40I think that that maybe the. That would be fine.
- 50:43Just cover my cover. Yeah, Cover myself and, and be
- 50:46like, be like an actor. Like, isn't it amazing?
- 50:49OK, so isn't it crazy, Michelle, when you're watching ATV show or
- 50:53a movie or whatever and the actor, of course, has makeup.
- 50:55Duh, duh, duh. And then you see them out on the
- 50:57red carpet and you see their splotchy skin or, you know,
- 51:01things you've never noticed, like because they're a real
- 51:04person. Right.
- 51:05Or if they're on like a talk show promoting whatever movie or
- 51:09whatever, they usually won't have makeup on.
- 51:11I mean, sometimes they do, but. Right.
- 51:13But you really start to see it like they have splotchy skin,
- 51:16Yes. Were there wrinkles?
- 51:17I think like especially with like HDTV or whatever it is now,
- 51:22like really like the wrinkles on some of the actors and
- 51:26actresses. I'm like damn.
- 51:29No right do. I look like this.
- 51:31Like what you? Probably would.
- 51:32On you, probably would. On camera, you just don't think
- 51:35about it, But now that things are like high definition and
- 51:37different things. So it always, always blows me
- 51:39away when I, when I see an especially when I haven't seen
- 51:42an actor, an actress for a while.
- 51:44And then you see them later on and you're like, Oh, and not,
- 51:47not that it's a bad thing. It's, but it's the same thing
- 51:49when you run into your old friends.
- 51:50How many people have you run into that's an old friend and
- 51:53they they have facially changed or whatever gained, gained a few
- 51:56pounds and they just look different to you because you
- 51:59haven't seen them in in a long time?
- 52:02Right, right. And I feel like we to ourselves,
- 52:05we don't notice, you know, when we start aging or when we gain
- 52:10weight or any of those kind of things.
- 52:12Like we just don't really notice it as much to ourselves.
- 52:17I mean, other people will notice it, but yeah.
- 52:19Yeah, I, it's one of those things that's funny when I, when
- 52:21I run to people like, oh, you have an aged day.
- 52:23I'm like, what? And I and I go and, and then
- 52:25you'll look and you, you, you take the photos and you're like,
- 52:27Oh, yeah, Oh, yeah, this guy, this guy's fugly, you know, You
- 52:32know, we are, we are aging. We are aging.
- 52:35There's no doubt about it. Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 52:38So yeah. So maybe I'll start doing the
- 52:39makeup thing. OK, well, yeah, we'll have to
- 52:43color match you to make sure you get the right colors and.
- 52:46I was like, oh. My God, like, I don't know who
- 53:07was just the sunlight or what, but I was like, good God like.
- 53:13That's the way they spray. Well, boy, they spray it like
- 53:16this, right? Of whoever does it, I don't know
- 53:19if he does it or somebody else to if you have someone else
- 53:23doing this to you, like I would fire them, I'd be like, I go
- 53:27eat, get a spray tan. And you try to make sure it
- 53:30looks as natural as possible. Like spray tans have evolved
- 53:34now. Like you can hardly tell
- 53:37sometimes that it's a spray tan, so.
- 53:40Yeah, we. Have He's doing it to himself.
- 53:42I think he's doing his own makeup because he doesn't think
- 53:45so too we. Had a We had a Co worker many
- 53:48years ago. His name was Jim Muir.
- 53:51Remember Jim Muir? Yes.
- 53:52Yeah, he had the perfect tan all the time, and I think that was a
- 53:57spray tan, but it was perfect. Like there was no you couldn't,
- 54:00you know, But some people just have that.
- 54:04What's that? European olivey type skin that
- 54:07looks great. But I think he was.
- 54:09I think he was spray tan too as well.
- 54:11I don't know, I could be wrong but but his was always a.
- 54:13Long time ago with spray tans. We're not.
- 54:15Yeah, not that great. So good, though, yeah, he, you
- 54:19know, so so compared to the the, you know, like, I don't know, I
- 54:25don't know. I don't.
- 54:27Either I try, I one thing, I mean, I try to, I try not to
- 54:30make fun of anybody else's looks because people could turn around
- 54:32and make fun of your, you know, your looks or you know, so I've
- 54:35tried, I've always tried to be kind about the fact that you
- 54:38know, that, that you know, I one thing that drives me nuts on
- 54:42social media is when I see somebody that is fat and balding
- 54:48and then picks on a woman because she's a size 2, she's
- 54:51fat, she's got Cellulite. I'm like, holy shit, look in the
- 54:54mirror, fatty, looking familiar. You know yourself.
- 54:56So I don't, I try not to make any physical appearance
- 55:00judgments about people because I just feel like that's going to
- 55:03that'll come back and bite you, right?
- 55:06Yeah. Because if yeah, like it will
- 55:08because how many times have you been in those comments section
- 55:10and one guy says, oh, you know, whoever they're talking to, oh,
- 55:13you need to lose a couple of pounds.
- 55:14Then everybody jumps on that person like, hey, you know.
- 55:18Yeah, I love it. Especially on Blue Sky.
- 55:20You, you see these guys commenting on women's looks and
- 55:24then people go and look at the guy's pictures either on
- 55:28Facebook or whatever, and they're like, dude, like you
- 55:31have no room to talk. Like, look at yourself.
- 55:33Like, you know, think about this.
- 55:37Like what? It's so weird.
- 55:38I mean, again, it goes back to the bullying.
- 55:40The bullying situation. It's like that's what you got.
- 55:43I mean, in terms of, you know, you're going to just attack
- 55:45somebody's physical appearance, you know, I think it's, again, I
- 55:48think it's hilarious when someone's drop dead beautiful
- 55:51and you got some goofball like, oh, you're ugly.
- 55:54What, like you're just, you're like, you are just an idiot.
- 55:58Well, and then usually they'll attack your personality then
- 56:03like, oh, you're ugly on the inside too or like they they
- 56:07can't handle any type of rejection at all or anything.
- 56:11And so then they just go off the deep end and are like you're all
- 56:14the way on the inside too and so.
- 56:17Oh my gosh. Yeah.
- 56:18Not work. Not the fight, guys.
- 56:20Not work. Not worth the fight Keep.
- 56:22I mean, they are the trolls. I guess They are the trolls.
- 56:25Yep, Yep. OK.
- 56:26We're at like fit. We're almost at an hour and I
- 56:29didn't even get to talk about what I wanted to talk about last
- 56:32week so. But.
- 56:36I hijacked, I hijacked this podcast last week.
- 56:39I got Rick jacked by you and I wanted to talk about why I why I
- 56:46why I seem to love like especially, you know, 'cause you
- 56:50make fun of me for watching The Secret Lives and Mormon Lives
- 56:53and The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
- 56:55Like why I really, I have this weird, I don't know if it's,
- 57:01it's not necessarily an obsession, but why?
- 57:03I love like the documentaries about Mormonism and all that,
- 57:07but I think I may have figured out why.
- 57:11So we'll have to save that for the next.
- 57:13Week, all right, I'm I'm excited.
- 57:15We'll make sure we kick it off next week at, you know, at the
- 57:17top, you know for radio people at the top of the hour.
- 57:20That's the first thing we're going to talk about, Michelle.
- 57:24That's it for today's episode of Rick and That.
- 57:27Michelle J, thanks for hanging out with us.
