- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Being an author in our age of media isn't just about creating books or written content, it's also about creating a media platform that can consist of video, podcasts, and social media.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: I want to encourage you to take advantage of all of these things for yourself.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: In addition, you can greatly increase your network if you're a guest on other people's media platforms.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: And the most common way to do this is by being a guest on other podcasts.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Podcast guesting is an incredibly powerful way to borrow someone's audience.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: You can also add value to their listeners, grow your network, and share your message.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: And it's just a lot of fun to do.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: So if you're new to this strategy, here's what I want you to do.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Find a few shows in your niche or your topic and share with the podcast host why you would make a great guest.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: The core idea here is adding value, not just promoting yourself.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: After you've done a few of these types of podcast guest interviews, you'll begin to get more invitations until eventually it kind of builds its own momentum.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Honestly, you can build a great online presence by podcast guesting alone.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Even though we talk about podcasting sometimes here on the show, and obviously you're listening to this show because you like podcasts, and hopefully you like the Daily Writer Podcast.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Even though I believe in the power of having your own podcast, I really truly do.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Even if you just do this one strategy of podcast guesting, you can actually grow a really big audience just by doing this alone.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: I think it's actually the easiest way to grow your audience because you don't have to do podcast production.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: You don't have to write show notes.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: You don't have to do all the things that you've got to do when you have your own show.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: You just go take advantage of other people's platforms and focus on adding value to them.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: So here's today's challenge.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Make a list of three topics you could talk about as a podcast guest, then reach out to those three podcasters and pitch yourself as a guest.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: And again, here's how to do it.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: You need to focus on adding value.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Listen to a few of their episodes.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Get a feel for the vibe of their show and what they're trying to do.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Trust me, I get a lot of podcast pitches from people.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Sometimes these are from individuals, sometimes they're from podcast pitching agencies.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: And it's really obvious they have never listened to my show or don't have any clue what it's about because sometimes I get pitches that are not related to this show's topic at all.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: And one of the one of the funniest pitches that I get occasionally is whenever they get my name wrong, they call me Ken instead of Kent, or they just address me.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: They don't even include a like a salutation at the beginning of it.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: They just, you know, start off with the podcast pitch.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: And that's a sure sign somebody has not taken just a few minutes to research your show and do like the the basic niceties of communicating with somebody.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: So make sure and do those things.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: It's really, really important.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: It's really not hard to find podcasts to be on and to build a relationship with the host, connect with them on social media, and then send them a pitch where you're adding value as a guest.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: It's really, really a lot of fun.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: I'm a guest on a lot of podcasts and I love doing it, as well as having people on my own show, of course, as you know.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: If you listen to this show, you know I have guests all the time.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: I love doing both of those things.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: So that is today's challenge.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Make a list of three topics you can talk about as a guest and then reach out to those podcasters and pitch yourself as a guest.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: And I'm gonna keep going back to this point.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Make sure to focus on adding value.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: A big thanks to today's sponsor, The Word Wizard.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: You may have written a great book, but it's not ready for publication until it's been in the hands of a master editor.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: That's why my friend Karen Hunsinger, also known as The Word Wizard, is the perfect partner to help you craft the highest quality book possible.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: A great editor doesn't just correct grammar and spelling, they also correct wordiness, shifts in tone and voice, the overuse of particular words, and they also enhance transitions, clarity, and accuracy.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: I've worked with Karen many times, and she is absolutely your secret weapon for crafting an amazing book.
