- 0:12Speaker 2: Sean O'Connell Show, your home of the best inside of
- 0:16Speaker 2: your youths. Let's get back to OC from the Murdoch
- 0:19Speaker 2: Chevrolet studio of ESPN 700 and 92.1 FM.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Welcome back to the Sean O'Connell show. Welcome in Carlos
- 0:30Speaker 3: Mauricio Ramirez.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Jack of all trades, master of every single one of them.
- 0:36Speaker 4: You can hear him on NFL international MLS on English
- 0:40Speaker 4: and on Spanish calls.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Now, Carlos, welcome back to the show. How are you?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Good.
- 0:45Speaker 5: Thank you for the introduction. Happy to be here again.
- 0:49Speaker 4: So what's wrong with our RSL squad? They have not
- 0:52Speaker 4: won an MLS match since May. They got $ 15 million
- 0:57Speaker 4: for selling goes though. And everyone's waiting to see how
- 1:00Speaker 4: that's going to be deployed to help this roster.
- 1:03Speaker 3: But it was such a hot start and they've gone
- 1:06Speaker 3: ice cold.
- 1:20Speaker 6: When you sell an asset like Xavier Gozo,
- 1:23Speaker 6: your team will feel it. And then when a player that.
- 1:26Speaker 5: Was producing at a high level like.
- 1:27Speaker 6: Zach Booth gets hurt in that same spot, then you're
- 1:31Speaker 6: in scramble mode.
- 1:31Speaker 5: And then when you have two.
- 1:33Speaker 6: Fronts like Leaks Cup and MLS simultaneously and you don't
- 1:37Speaker 6: have the depth to withstand the rigors of both competitions,
- 1:42Speaker 6: then the problems just pile up.
- 1:45Speaker 5: I think Russell Lake has a.
- 1:47Speaker 6: Really good team. I mean, with injuries like the RPO injury,
- 1:53Speaker 6: the Annelli injury, now the Zach Booth, which you cannot
- 1:56Speaker 6: control or, you know, budget for. But when you look
- 2:00Speaker 6: at the completion or the totality of the roster, I
- 2:04Speaker 6: see a really, first of all, I think you have
- 2:06Speaker 6: one of the greatest coaches in MLS. Pablo Mastroianni is
- 2:10Speaker 6: a football or soccer savant. He knows what he's doing.
- 2:15Speaker 6: Gozo is the evidence of that. And then, uh, I
- 2:21Speaker 6: think has our Connie is, is turning.
- 2:23Speaker 5: Back into shape, recovering from the injury. Um, you have a.
- 2:27Speaker 6: Wealth of, of homegrown young Utah based talent like hazard
- 2:33Speaker 6: Connie who are making their strides and major league soccer goes, though,
- 2:37Speaker 6: is the latest example. So I think it's, it's a
- 2:39Speaker 6: combination of bat luck, which comes in the shape of
- 2:42Speaker 6: injuries Being, to a degree, a victim of your own
- 2:46Speaker 6: success in being able to qualify to the next round
- 2:50Speaker 6: of League's Cup, then you lost the game.
- 2:52Speaker 5: To Lyon, which I understand.
- 2:53Speaker 6: But honestly, it's just that, I think. It's bat luck, injuries,
- 3:00Speaker 6: the selling or the sell of departure of Gozo.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Some players underperforming. I think Victor Ella tune.
- 3:08Speaker 6: G I'm concerned about here's a guy who has scored
- 3:12Speaker 6: eight goals in champions league and is nowhere to be
- 3:14Speaker 6: seen as your backup nine, who should be fighting for
- 3:18Speaker 6: your starting nine spot against surgery. So once.
- 3:22Speaker 5: There's continuity issues.
- 3:24Speaker 6: Because of the rotation. So But I see a really
- 3:28Speaker 6: good team when the squad is healthy and you can
- 3:31Speaker 6: depend on just that. That's the skeleton, the base skeleton
- 3:34Speaker 6: of the team.
- 3:35Speaker 5: I think it's a.
- 3:36Speaker 6: Very competitive team with a couple of additions, maybe another
- 3:39Speaker 6: nine perhaps. And I think a winger, a right side
- 3:44Speaker 6: winger to replace Gozo would do wonders for this squad
- 3:48Speaker 6: as well.
- 3:49Speaker 4: A lot of the, you know, headlining moments, a lot
- 3:51Speaker 4: of the headlining goals have been a product of the
- 3:55Speaker 4: Gozo's mastery and Diego Luna being a finisher and things
- 3:59Speaker 4: like that. When you take a Pippen away from Jordan
- 4:02Speaker 4: or a Jordan away from Pippen or whatever, I think
- 4:06Speaker 4: we fail to recognize how costly that can be for
- 4:09Speaker 4: your other best player when now a lot of the
- 4:12Speaker 4: defensive pressure is applied in one spot.
- 4:16Speaker 5: Yeah. And it's a great point. A player that I
- 4:20Speaker 5: think what I've seen from him.
- 4:22Speaker 6: Is encouraging is Lineker Rodriguez. Here's a young guy who
- 4:28Speaker 6: you didn't form. He's not you to native, but he's
- 4:31Speaker 6: now spent, I would think enough time with, with the
- 4:34Speaker 6: team that he understands what the, what the tactics demand
- 4:38Speaker 6: from Pablo. He, so far he's been used as another
- 4:41Speaker 6: 10 and, But in that scheme, you only need to,
- 4:44Speaker 6: you need a left 10 and a right 10 left.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Side is Diego's.
- 4:47Speaker 5: He's using Gila Voguey as the right side 10. And
- 4:50Speaker 5: that's where Lineker plays.
- 4:51Speaker 6: I wonder, and that was, and that was goes those
- 4:54Speaker 6: spot before he got played back into the wing back
- 4:57Speaker 6: spot on the right side. I guess I wonder if,
- 5:00Speaker 6: if at some point with booth being out, that spot
- 5:04Speaker 6: usually goes to Deandra yet lane, but he's 33 and
- 5:09Speaker 6: a different kind of player. I wonder if Lineker would
- 5:13Speaker 6: be an option at some point to play that right
- 5:16Speaker 6: hand wings at wing back spot and, and replace a Gozo.
- 5:20Speaker 6: And then you would have, you know, three backs, whether
- 5:23Speaker 6: it's Junko or Arias or Quentin or whoever you want
- 5:27Speaker 6: to play in the back on the three back line.
- 5:29Speaker 6: And then you have Lineker would be that, that right
- 5:34Speaker 6: winger with any combination of Ruiz or Spearing's, or Kaliskan
- 5:42Speaker 6: or whoever you want to play in the middle when
- 5:43Speaker 6: an alley comes back and then Sanabria.
- 5:45Speaker 5: Plays the left side. And then you have your structure.
- 5:48Speaker 6: With Gilavogi Luna and, and so your salon's up top.
- 5:52Speaker 2: All right.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Switching gears.
- 5:55Speaker 4: If you don't mind a little bit to the NFL,
- 5:57Speaker 4: because obviously you wear that hat sometimes and NFL international.
- 6:01Speaker 4: Now you've, you're in Miami instead of San Francisco.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Is that correct?
- 6:05Speaker 2: Yes.
- 6:06Speaker 5: Yes.
- 6:06Speaker 6: I just moved from, I actually drove from San Francisco
- 6:10Speaker 6: to Miami, a grueling mind, a challenging endeavor from San
- 6:17Speaker 6: Jose to Miami.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yes.
- 6:18Speaker 6: I'm now based out East in Florida.
- 6:20Speaker 3: That's a long, that is a long, long drive.
- 6:23Speaker 4: As we marched towards those week one games and every
- 6:27Speaker 4: T every team kind of wraps up their pre-season. Is
- 6:30Speaker 4: there any, any squad or any storyline that has captured
- 6:34Speaker 4: your attention in this sort of weird final week of
- 6:37Speaker 4: not real football before we get to the good stuff?
- 6:39Speaker 6: Speaker 4, I guess Cleveland, right? I mean, what the
- 6:42Speaker 6: hell are they doing?
- 6:43Speaker 3: It's the Sean Watson.
- 6:45Speaker 6: It's the Sean Watson.
- 6:47Speaker 5: It's it's when you have two quarterbacks, you have none.
- 6:50Speaker 3: And I would have.
- 6:51Speaker 6: Thought that would have gone with, with Shadur just to
- 6:55Speaker 6: know really what they have.
- 6:56Speaker 5: And I understand it's easier.
- 6:57Speaker 6: To go to the older quarterback first. If he doesn't work,
- 7:02Speaker 6: you shift back to the young guy and shift that man.
- 7:05Speaker 6: That might be the case, but if they're talented, just,
- 7:10Speaker 6: just not there. the worst place you can be in
- 7:14Speaker 6: the NFL is mediocre. I mean, in between like an.
- 7:17Speaker 5: An, a nine and eight and eight and nine.
- 7:19Speaker 6: And eight and 10, seven and 10 team, which they
- 7:23Speaker 6: could be. But if I would have started should urge
- 7:27Speaker 6: to know what I have. And if we tank, we tank,
- 7:29Speaker 6: and then you go get Manning that, but I have
- 7:32Speaker 6: no idea what they're doing at the QB spot. It's
- 7:34Speaker 6: a great question. And to me, that's a fascinating one.
- 7:39Speaker 6: We'll see what happens.
- 7:41Speaker 4: Last thing, and I know we've got to let you go,
- 7:43Speaker 4: but that was going to be my next question. College
- 7:46Speaker 4: football starts week zero this weekend, and then obviously we're
- 7:50Speaker 4: off and running next week in earnest. As you're looking
- 7:54Speaker 4: at college football through the NFL lens, which players are
- 7:58Speaker 4: you watching for that top draft spot in the 2026-2027 cycle?
- 8:02Speaker 6: Because I have to go, I'll give you a one-word answer.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Manning. I'm out.
- 8:10Speaker 3: All right. That's good enough for us. Thanks for the time.
- 8:14Speaker 4: Carlos Mauricio Ramirez, NFL international MLS on Apple TV and
- 8:20Speaker 4: a friend of the program who is now a drive
- 8:23Speaker 4: from San Francisco all the way to Miami.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Cross country for real. That's a rough one.
- 8:34Speaker 4: I appreciate him giving his thoughts on the RSL situation.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Like I was in the building. We went and watched
- 8:42Speaker 4: last week when RSL battled all the way back against Dallas.
- 8:46Speaker 4: They go down early. They battled back, even it up
- 8:50Speaker 4: at three, three. And then with like no time left
- 8:55Speaker 4: on the clock. In fact, it was to be very
- 8:57Speaker 4: beginning of extra time. Just allowed the most little league.
- 9:02Speaker 4: My best player is better than your best player. He's
- 9:05Speaker 4: just going to take it from the corner, dribble around
- 9:07Speaker 4: the three guys and put it in the back of
- 9:10Speaker 4: the net type goal.
- 9:11Speaker 3: And that ended up before three loss.
- 9:13Speaker 4: And since then it's been lost to one to Orlando,
- 9:17Speaker 4: the aforementioned leagues cup loss to Leon. And tomorrow night
- 9:21Speaker 4: it is Colorado and real Salt Lake at Dick's sporting
- 9:25Speaker 4: goods park in Colorado. So after that, the next home game,
- 9:33Speaker 4: September 5th at America first field against LAFC. Hope to
- 9:37Speaker 4: see this squad get back on track after losing some
- 9:41Speaker 4: momentum post-World Cup.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Tough stuff to deal with. All right, so.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Carlos, I wanted to pick his brain a little bit
- 9:53Speaker 4: more about the rising talents in college football as it
- 9:57Speaker 4: pertains to these NFL rosters because you're going to see
- 10:01Speaker 4: that conversation happening around college football where there's the Trinidad
- 10:08Speaker 4: Shambleses of the world, there's the Archmannings.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Of the world, the Julian Saiyans of the world.
- 10:13Speaker 4: These top quarterbacks in college football then become the top
- 10:17Speaker 4: targets in NFL football.
- 10:18Speaker 3: These NFL teams... that are going to.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Kind of figure it out in the first four to
- 10:24Speaker 4: six weeks, whether or not they have anything. And beyond that,
- 10:28Speaker 4: you're potentially racing toward the bottom. As we saw in
- 10:32Speaker 4: the NBA for so many years with Utah jazz, you're
- 10:34Speaker 4: racing toward the bottom to try to get yourself the
- 10:38Speaker 4: best draft position and the best draft pick. I don't
- 10:41Speaker 4: know that we are super clear yet on who that's
- 10:45Speaker 4: going to be. Now, Manning arch Manning's name is obviously
- 10:48Speaker 4: rising to the top. of many, many lists because his
- 10:52Speaker 4: last name is Manning and the low hanging fruit. And
- 10:55Speaker 4: you've heard this question asked by every radio guy in
- 10:58Speaker 4: the world already is if his name was arch Johnson
- 11:01Speaker 4: or arch Jones or arch shambles, would his star be
- 11:07Speaker 4: rising the same way? Would people be talking about him
- 11:10Speaker 4: the same way? And the obvious answer is no, but
- 11:14Speaker 4: because he's arch Manning and because people see the flashes
- 11:18Speaker 4: and the glimmer of, that dynasty of quarterback play, they
- 11:26Speaker 4: feel like it's lower risk to go in on, hey,
- 11:29Speaker 4: Arch Manning's going to be that guy. Texas obviously felt
- 11:32Speaker 4: like it was low risk to go in on Arch
- 11:34Speaker 4: Manning being that guy.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I think he's an awesome athlete. I think he's got
- 11:38Speaker 3: a great arm.
- 11:38Speaker 4: I think that it's completely unfair to expect him to
- 11:42Speaker 4: be either of his uncles when they're both Super Bowl winners,
- 11:47Speaker 4: they're both Hall of Famers. Peyton obviously is thought of
- 11:51Speaker 4: on another tier even than Eli is, but Eli had
- 11:54Speaker 4: an insane amount of success at both the college and
- 11:57Speaker 4: the pro levels.
- 11:58Speaker 3: And then you go all the way back to grandpa.
- 12:00Speaker 4: And so you're being expected to carry this forward. We
- 12:04Speaker 4: have some version of that at our local universities, right?
- 12:07Speaker 3: Our local schools.
- 12:10Speaker 4: You've got like the Ellis's now at the university of Utah,
- 12:14Speaker 4: by the way, at Idaho before the older Ellis brothers
- 12:17Speaker 4: were Idaho guys. university of Idaho guys that are now
- 12:20Speaker 4: killing it in the NFL. Obviously dad Luther was a
- 12:24Speaker 4: great player for the university of Utah before relocating to Idaho.
- 12:29Speaker 4: And then the younger brothers ended up being part of
- 12:31Speaker 4: this Utah football roster.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Both.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Well, not just both.
- 12:38Speaker 4: I think all, I think Southern Utah, Weber state, Utah state,
- 12:43Speaker 4: Utah and BYU have all fielded one or more Kalfusi
- 12:49Speaker 4: at some point.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Andrew would, I would agree. Kalfusi is everywhere. The Kalfusi is,
- 12:54Speaker 3: and it's a big clan, right? There's a lot of offshoots.
- 12:57Speaker 4: There's cousins, but I think every one of them has
- 13:00Speaker 4: had a Kalfusi and most of them have had a Kalfusi.
- 13:04Speaker 3: On the staff as well as on the field.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:07Speaker 6: Right.
- 13:07Speaker 4: So we hang it, we get some version of this.
- 13:10Speaker 4: The Glaskers are at BYU right now. You've got a
- 13:16Speaker 4: bunch of, The Hanumans have rolled through BYU. It's a
- 13:20Speaker 4: family affair in a lot of these Utah and BYU
- 13:25Speaker 4: football rosters. The same is true with Utah State. But
- 13:28Speaker 4: it's a wildly different animal when we're talking about National
- 13:32Speaker 4: Football League royalty, when we're talking about what Arch Manning
- 13:36Speaker 4: is dealing with and what the NFL and everyone who
- 13:40Speaker 4: watches both college football and NFL football are doing in
- 13:44Speaker 4: judging that player. And judging Arch Manning specifically.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I have a question about this.
- 13:52Speaker 7: Because to me, just from maybe an outsider's perspective on Manning,
- 13:58Speaker 7: it feels a little bit like Shador Sanders.
- 14:02Speaker 3: A couple years ago.
- 14:03Speaker 7: He's a good player, but maybe the media is more
- 14:06Speaker 7: in love with him than the actual GMs are going
- 14:08Speaker 7: to be. Do you think that could happen where the
- 14:11Speaker 7: media is just all over Manning, Manning, Manning, and the
- 14:14Speaker 7: GMs are like, Hold a minute. We'll, we'll take him
- 14:16Speaker 7: a few rounds later.
- 14:17Speaker 4: I actually think you bring up an interesting question and
- 14:20Speaker 4: I think it's a decent one to ask.
- 14:23Speaker 3: I think it's going to go the opposite way.
- 14:26Speaker 4: I think that, so what happened with Shador and look
- 14:29Speaker 4: at the GMs are kind of being proven, right? So far,
- 14:33Speaker 4: what happened with Shador is he was an unbelievable playmaker
- 14:38Speaker 4: in college football, like as unlikable as any college football
- 14:43Speaker 4: athlete that we've ever seen. But as a playmaker, especially
- 14:48Speaker 4: at the lower level, and then when he went to Colorado,
- 14:52Speaker 4: with the right receivers, he didn't have the right offensive line,
- 14:55Speaker 4: he didn't have the right run game, he didn't have
- 14:57Speaker 4: the right defense. He had great wide receivers, and he
- 15:01Speaker 4: had his own ability. He was wildly talented. He was
- 15:04Speaker 4: so dang good. Painfully, obnoxiously in some situations. And I
- 15:11Speaker 4: think that because of... the way that his public persona
- 15:17Speaker 4: was out there, the way that his dad's public persona
- 15:20Speaker 4: has been out there for decades, and the way that
- 15:26Speaker 4: his brother's legal troubles and all these things, I think
- 15:29Speaker 4: that people looked at Shador and they were just like,
- 15:32Speaker 4: that's a mess waiting to happen for us. if you
- 15:35Speaker 4: just take his football in a vacuum, he's not a
- 15:38Speaker 4: first round draft pick. He's not the number one overall pick,
- 15:41Speaker 4: but if you just take his football at a vacuum,
- 15:43Speaker 4: you're just like, Holy cow, this kid's got something.
- 15:46Speaker 3: He's got a crazy live arm.
- 15:48Speaker 4: I mean, the problem is when you're, your name is
- 15:51Speaker 4: Shador Sanders and you are very publicly outwardly forward facing
- 15:55Speaker 4: the equally cocky son of the cockiest player that's ever
- 16:00Speaker 4: been in the NFL. you put yourself into different conversations
- 16:04Speaker 4: from a comparison standpoint, instead of being like, Hey, this
- 16:09Speaker 4: guy's a good second, third, fourth round draft pick. The
- 16:12Speaker 4: NFL was just like, he thinks he's the number one
- 16:14Speaker 4: overall draft pick. His talent says he's a third rounder,
- 16:17Speaker 4: which for me does like a reverse multiplier and drops
- 16:21Speaker 4: him all the way to the fifth or the sixth round,
- 16:23Speaker 4: because I don't want to deal with the trouble. I
- 16:25Speaker 4: think arch Manning will be treated in an opposite manner.
- 16:29Speaker 4: I think because he has been Such a consummate professional.
- 16:32Speaker 4: He has been probably, if we're being honest, he'd been
- 16:35Speaker 4: like falsely humble in a lot of like, I think
- 16:37Speaker 4: he's been trained to be outwardly humble when quarterbacks are
- 16:41Speaker 4: not humble.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Peyton Manning is not humble. Eli Manning is not humble.
- 16:45Speaker 4: They are not supposed to be humble, but they have
- 16:47Speaker 4: that all shucks kind of thing about them. And arch
- 16:51Speaker 4: carries himself the same way. So let's say that arch
- 16:55Speaker 4: has exactly Shador Sanders film.
- 16:59Speaker 3: And of course he won't.
- 17:00Speaker 4: But if he had exactly Shador Sanders film, I think
- 17:04Speaker 4: arch gets treated better by the NFL than Shador was.
- 17:08Speaker 4: And Shador is because optics are everything. Expectation is everything.
- 17:14Speaker 4: And if you think as a, as an NFL GM,
- 17:19Speaker 4: as a coach, you're inheriting a headline and a headache
- 17:23Speaker 4: instead of a player, who's going to put his head
- 17:26Speaker 4: down and work. Shador puts his head down and works, right? Nobody,
- 17:30Speaker 4: even his biggest detractors, his biggest haters, nobody was out
- 17:34Speaker 4: there saying that Shador Sanders doesn't put in the time
- 17:38Speaker 4: to master the craft of being a quarterback. He likes
- 17:41Speaker 4: the flashy stuff about it. He likes the watches. He
- 17:44Speaker 4: likes the cars. He likes the interviews. He likes to
- 17:47Speaker 4: be like the guy that people talk about arch to
- 17:51Speaker 4: be determined. It seems like he doesn't necessarily love it
- 17:53Speaker 4: as much, but it's the optics. It's the, and like,
- 17:57Speaker 4: Some people will say it's racially different. Some people will
- 18:00Speaker 4: say it's culturally different. What it is is one guy's
- 18:04Speaker 4: dad is the Manning that didn't end up playing in
- 18:07Speaker 4: the NFL. So they judge him by his uncles instead
- 18:10Speaker 4: of his dad. The other guy's dad is Dion bleep
- 18:14Speaker 4: and Sanders who has never met a camera.
- 18:16Speaker 3: He doesn't want to talk to, right?
- 18:19Speaker 4: So these GMs come to that with a, a frame
- 18:22Speaker 4: of reference with a, a judgment standpoint, consciously or subconsciously,
- 18:26Speaker 4: where they're just like, oof. Shador had to be damn
- 18:31Speaker 4: near perfect as a football player for people to want
- 18:35Speaker 4: everything else that came with Shador.
- 18:39Speaker 3: And he wasn't. He's a flawed football player. He's a
- 18:41Speaker 3: flawed quarterback.
- 18:43Speaker 4: Arch Manning could be equally flawed, but he'll be given
- 18:47Speaker 4: the benefit of the doubt instead of punished for all
- 18:51Speaker 4: of that extracurricular stuff, in my opinion.
- 18:55Speaker 3: Does that make sense? Yeah, it makes sense.
- 18:57Speaker 7: So the GMs had to kind of hedge their bets
- 18:59Speaker 7: with Shador essentially.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:01Speaker 7: Because of all the risks that comes with the publicity
- 19:05Speaker 7: with him.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:07Speaker 4: They're just Shador is, and I wish I've said this
- 19:11Speaker 4: so many times. I actually wish that D I think
- 19:13Speaker 4: Dion is like, like so many of us, he is
- 19:17Speaker 4: the dad that just has a blind spot specifically for
- 19:21Speaker 4: his kids.
- 19:21Speaker 3: I think that he's the right coach and, for a
- 19:23Speaker 3: lot of the other.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Guys that went and played at the university of Colorado,
- 19:26Speaker 4: a lot of guys that, you know, he, he would
- 19:29Speaker 4: deliberately talk about guys who didn't have a father figure
- 19:31Speaker 4: at home. He wanted to be that he wanted to like,
- 19:34Speaker 4: especially for African-American young men who came from backgrounds similar
- 19:38Speaker 4: to his own, he wanted to like bring those guys
- 19:41Speaker 4: under his wing and teach them kind of his way.
- 19:45Speaker 4: And it might not be everyone's right way, but his
- 19:47Speaker 4: way made sense, right? He's a very outwardly faithful type person.
- 19:52Speaker 4: He wanted it to be a Christian type atmosphere. He
- 19:54Speaker 4: wanted like God to be a big part of people's lives.
- 19:57Speaker 4: He was forcing that or, or pressuring, pressing that onto players.
- 20:00Speaker 4: I think for a lot of players, that was a
- 20:01Speaker 4: good thing. I think that Dion is, like teaching guys
- 20:05Speaker 4: what the NFL was going to be about while they
- 20:07Speaker 4: were in college was exactly what a lot of these
- 20:09Speaker 4: young men were looking for in their environment. And I
- 20:12Speaker 4: think that he had a certain level of accountability in
- 20:15Speaker 4: his program that a lot of guys, especially guys that
- 20:17Speaker 4: were going to like the Jackson states of the world
- 20:20Speaker 4: didn't necessarily expect, but his own sons, he did not
- 20:24Speaker 4: do that too. And he did not do that with,
- 20:27Speaker 4: and we haven't talked about this a ton on the show.
- 20:29Speaker 4: Cause I think people have primetime fatigue, but he's getting
- 20:34Speaker 4: like summons to court and subpoenas to, to go testify
- 20:40Speaker 4: in court. not Shador's case, but Shiloh's case, Shiloh's legal cases,
- 20:45Speaker 4: because his son's like his son beat somebody up at school,
- 20:49Speaker 4: a staff member at school when he was in high
- 20:52Speaker 4: school and got sued and had to file bankruptcy. He's
- 20:56Speaker 4: got like an $ 11 million bankruptcy filing situation.
- 21:00Speaker 3: That Dion has to be a part of.
- 21:02Speaker 4: And he's being called to court, testify in court during
- 21:05Speaker 4: the football season.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:08Speaker 3: That's not going to go great for Colorado. It's not
- 21:09Speaker 3: going to go great for Colorado.
- 21:10Speaker 4: And also if you're in the NFL, if you're an
- 21:13Speaker 4: NFL GM, or if you're an NFL franchise, you're just like,
- 21:17Speaker 4: I don't know, man.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:18Speaker 7: You've got 52 other players that also generate headlines. You
- 21:21Speaker 7: can't have one. That's going over the top. What kind
- 21:24Speaker 7: of other stuff are we doing here?
- 21:25Speaker 4: Because like, you know, like the, and again, like Shador
- 21:29Speaker 4: just doesn't do himself any favors because a lot of
- 21:33Speaker 4: guys don't want to talk to the media and that's
- 21:36Speaker 4: totally fine. They treat people respectfully when they don't want
- 21:42Speaker 4: to talk to the media. I don't want to paint
- 21:46Speaker 4: with a blanket brush here. The media day experiences we
- 21:50Speaker 4: had with Dion. Dion was great. Travis Hunter was great.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Shador was a pain in the ass. Was a jerk
- 21:58Speaker 4: to everybody. And like, again, that's anecdotal. I'm only speaking
- 22:03Speaker 4: from my own experience. But I also talked to a
- 22:06Speaker 4: lot of people who had the same experience, right? So
- 22:08Speaker 4: it's like, okay. You can fake it. It's very, very
- 22:12Speaker 4: easy to be a fake likable person. You know what
- 22:17Speaker 4: it's supposed to look like. He didn't do that. And
- 22:20Speaker 4: I think it hurt him in the NFL and it's
- 22:21Speaker 4: still hurting him in the NFL to some extent. I
- 22:24Speaker 4: pulled up the Shador Sanders pro stats. I need to
- 22:29Speaker 4: find his college stats. Arch Manning is coming off a
- 22:33Speaker 4: season at Texas. Remember, this is his fourth year at
- 22:36Speaker 4: Texas now. He's coming off a season at Texas where
- 22:39Speaker 4: he had three 3,163 yards, 26 touchdowns, seven interceptions. That
- 22:49Speaker 4: by itself is a pretty dang good season. If you
- 22:53Speaker 4: gave anybody those numbers who wasn't named Arch Manning, everyone
- 22:58Speaker 4: would be like, okay, that's a solid year for your quarterback.
- 23:02Speaker 4: 61% is not the completion percentage I'm looking for. I
- 23:04Speaker 4: need that to be closer to 65, 70. We'd probably
- 23:09Speaker 4: look at it and be like, all right, cool. but
- 23:11Speaker 4: it's not good enough when it's Arch Manning. And now
- 23:17Speaker 4: that lens doesn't just get focused on expectations for his
- 23:21Speaker 4: Texas career. It's also going to be a dual examination of, okay,
- 23:26Speaker 4: what is he in next year's draft? His running ability,
- 23:29Speaker 4: his athleticism, his arm, his processing speed, all of those
- 23:33Speaker 4: things come into even more hyper-focus because teams want Arch
- 23:38Speaker 4: Manning to be near the top of the draft. They
- 23:40Speaker 4: want They want what we hope is true about him
- 23:44Speaker 4: to be true about him.
- 23:46Speaker 3: They want a Manning.
- 23:47Speaker 4: It's a low risk proposition for any GM, any coach.
- 23:51Speaker 4: If you're at the top of the draft, if you're
- 23:53Speaker 4: in the top five and you select a quarterback named Manning,
- 23:57Speaker 4: your fan base is going to be like, I like that.
- 24:00Speaker 3: I like that. That's a good pick. I don't know.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Got to take a break here. Sean O'Connell show continues
- 24:09Speaker 4: with the daily dump. A potpourri of stories, including maybe just.
