- 0:07Welcome back to the Just in Time podcast.
- 0:09I'm your host, Justin. With me is Will, and we've got a
- 0:12lot to talk about. Some.
- 0:14Big things happen, yeah. Some big stuff happened, you
- 0:19know, starting off with we'll go into basketball 1st and then
- 0:22we'll shift into some baseball. Family we have a general back
- 0:25brother. Personally, I love the decision.
- 0:28I mean, I don't think our athletic department under Joe
- 0:31Oliva handled that situation the best at the time.
- 0:35I do agree he needed to be let go to save other sporting
- 0:39programs like football. But you know, thank you Texas A
- 0:46and you started all of this for us.
- 0:48You put us on the map in both, back on the map in both football
- 0:53and I ain't going to say we're going to be back on the map in
- 0:56basketball because we weren't on the map.
- 0:58We're joining a conversation on basketball.
- 1:02Been a couple of decades since we've even been in the
- 1:04conversation, but we're joining the conversation again, all
- 1:08thanks to you cult members over there in Texas A&M at College
- 1:12Station. If you don't remember, here's a
- 1:15refresher for you on October 25th.
- 1:18You came in and what's the right word for this?
- 1:22Embarrassed us, embarrassed the program and we got rid of a
- 1:25clown. Let us to get rid of a clown.
- 1:29So thank you for that. But also McMahon wasn't a clown.
- 1:33He's just he's a nice guy. I've never met him, but from
- 1:36what I hear and everything, he's a class act and he just couldn't
- 1:41get over the hump and win in the SEC.
- 1:45So what does that do now? We got to not only do we have an
- 1:48athletic director that's not afraid to go out and not get
- 1:51coaches he thinks is great, but coaches that are actually great.
- 1:55I'm not going to sit here and shit on Scott Woodard, but with
- 2:00him, I don't think we are. We would have gotten Lane
- 2:04Kiffin. I don't think we would have
- 2:06gotten Will Wade back. Actually, I know for a fact we
- 2:09wouldn't have gotten Will Wade back to man who fired him.
- 2:11Wasn't good turn around and rehire.
- 2:14Yeah, for sure. Yeah.
- 2:15I don't blame him. Yeah, I.
- 2:17Don't blame it me though. It makes you circumstance, yeah.
- 2:21But at first I was kind of like where we going with this
- 2:25athletic director stuff, but started out great for us.
- 2:29Yeah, sure. I mean, I mean, you got to look
- 2:32at it, look at the facts. We've got.
- 2:35We fired 2 coaches that weren't winning.
- 2:37We've got proven, we've got a guy at Wil Wade who's already
- 2:41proven he can do it at LSU. Didn't he win the Seca couple
- 2:44times? I want to say at least.
- 2:46Once. Yeah, at least once, yeah.
- 2:49Yeah, he's and he was pretty deep in deep in it in the
- 2:54tournament when they decided to suspend him for the biggest game
- 3:00when they came out with that original NCAA findings.
- 3:04Yeah, the wiretaps. Which to me at the time, they
- 3:08didn't even know about the wiretaps or the public didn't
- 3:11know. You suspend your coach.
- 3:14That just is admitting guilt to me.
- 3:18Why would you do that? Yes, let him finish out the
- 3:21season and then put him on a suspension.
- 3:23But the crazy part about it is they did all of that and then
- 3:26they brought him back for at least two more seasons.
- 3:28It was a man, it was such a turn of events for this whole
- 3:31situation. You know, like like you said, we
- 3:34wanted to talk about will just you talk about as most of an
- 3:38icanic situation as you ever find like this is so A1 unique
- 3:42outlier situation. And look, you know, I've seen
- 3:45the last week or so, you know, NC State folks are bitter.
- 3:48They're not happy. Yeah, they're not happy.
- 3:52Like he said. They're bitter about a coach
- 3:54they didn't think was that great in the first place.
- 3:57They listen, you know what's what's funny about that is and
- 4:00listen, I get it. Here's the thing, like, and I'm
- 4:02not like LSU in terms of men's basketball, LSU, it's a terrible
- 4:06job. It was like nothing.
- 4:07There's there's no that's that is just factual evidence.
- 4:12There's no right spot in that job.
- 4:14Like listen, like we were, we were born in 93, right?
- 4:17So they've been to one final four in our lifetime.
- 4:21One I was in, it was 2000 and we were in 6th grade the last time
- 4:25we went to the final four in the last program.
- 4:27Look at this here I will sum it up for you.
- 4:30This sums it up to me. What other other coaching job in
- 4:35what other school program do you hire?
- 4:38Not you hire a coach that you fired.
- 4:41But not only that, the coach that you fired to replace him
- 4:45before he got fired is back on his staff.
- 4:48Yes, that's right. That's I'm good, man.
- 4:52That's. I mean, that's to me that.
- 4:54Sounds all. Basketball.
- 4:56That's that's the program for you right there.
- 4:58But yeah, but I didn't listen to much of his press conference
- 5:03because I had that class, but I put it on a little bit while
- 5:07they would. We're doing some stuff.
- 5:09It was listening to it in a spot where I just turned it off
- 5:11because I was It was just funny. And I said I was going to watch
- 5:14it later. Yeah.
- 5:16Was when he said he was there to make history one way or another.
- 5:20Yeah. He was either go win a
- 5:21championship and hang a banner or he was going to be the first
- 5:24coach to be fired from the same school twice.
- 5:27Yes. It used to be made either way,
- 5:30brother. Yeah, by the way, I love the
- 5:33hire because, like I said, I'm not that big in the basketball,
- 5:38but I went when I was in college.
- 5:39When we were in college, I went to more men's basketball games
- 5:42in LSU just because Bill Wade was the coach and I thought, oh,
- 5:45we got a good. Chance to win this game, yeah.
- 5:49It was a great time that will I will wade for you shirts that
- 5:53they put out on the things. Yeah, yeah, it was a good high.
- 5:57I think it's a good hire. I think we're going to do a lot
- 5:59of not saying we're going to win it all, but also don't look for
- 6:04it to be a successful year right off the.
- 6:08Yeah, like and that's yeah. And that's the thing I want to
- 6:10talk about just like it's a terrible job like this.
- 6:13I know people are very happy at LSU right now and right
- 6:16understandably so. It's an awful job, as you say,
- 6:19is a far better basketball job historically and currently.
- 6:22But just to the given the situation with the alignment
- 6:25that he stressed on from McNeese State alignment and then just
- 6:28like the fans, it's like 2 just intangible pieces that are hard
- 6:32to ignore and like, and then a lot of people talk to you know,
- 6:36AC state people talked about how well he's a betrayer, he's a
- 6:39traitor. I'm like, listen, he was caught
- 6:41on FBI to wire taps way before you hired him.
- 6:44Exactly. So it's like that that lets me
- 6:46know that you you just bitter about you got spurred and I get
- 6:49like I know people should be out they should honor their word.
- 6:51Absolutely. He worship me a bond.
- 6:53My pastors always tell us that they worship me a bond and then
- 6:56but when people This is why I ate so much when just fans and
- 7:02pundits they get something They always crush these young adults,
- 7:05these athletes about transferring every Oh they quit.
- 7:08They quit on the team used to fight and this, but the coach
- 7:10has been doing this for decades they've.
- 7:12Been doing. This for decades.
- 7:14What's new? Yeah.
- 7:15But look what made Will Wade really bad.
- 7:17I don't know if this was AAI generated thing, but apparently
- 7:21he bought a house. He bought the house in Baton
- 7:23Rouge on February 23rd. Yeah, or put in the offer for
- 7:27it, which is he's perfect for LSU.
- 7:31We need those kind of big, you know, personalities.
- 7:34But on that same topic, you know, we stick with basketball
- 7:37real quick. Kim Monkey's not retiring.
- 7:39And the fact that she told him reporters that she only 63, in
- 7:44good health. She's got a stent, but her
- 7:46doctor says she's fully healthy. That's the lower.
- 7:49And she's not retiring. She don't know who started that.
- 7:52And then somebody showed me that the dude who posted it on
- 7:56Twitter doubled and tripled down on it after she said she wasn't
- 8:00retiring. But she also told him reporters,
- 8:02do I look that bad? Oh man.
- 8:06But you know, we'll jump, right? While we're on the topic, before
- 8:09we start, who was it? Let's see.
- 8:11Gabriel Ralford tore his ACL. He's out for the season for
- 8:15don't. Talk Massive, massive loss,
- 8:18yeah. I will say this, at least it's
- 8:23not in season, it happened now, so it's not really setting us
- 8:28back in the long run. So that guys can emerge, yeah.
- 8:33It's a huge, it's a huge loss, but it's not like you are in
- 8:38game five in Week 5 in, he blows a tire out.
- 8:43You know you're in spring training, you've got time to
- 8:46prep other guys to step up and get it done.
- 8:48That's right. Yeah, and to me that's
- 8:50important. Now time for baseball, which is
- 8:53has been depressing for the last couple weeks.
- 8:56But, and I'm not going to lie, on Friday night, I thought it
- 9:00was going to be depressing, depressing weekend.
- 9:03Jason Evans comes out and looks atrocious for the 1st 2 innings.
- 9:11Then he settled down and considering the state of our
- 9:15starting pitching did his job, I can't be mad at him.
- 9:18He fought through it and he pitched.
- 9:20To his credit, yeah. Let's see, I think he threw 3
- 9:23scoreless. He settled down and I think he's
- 9:25threw 3 scoreless. OK, he the 4th, he threw 50
- 9:28through in 60 through. He gave up seven runs in four
- 9:33runs in the first two innings and then he's threw 4 scoreless
- 9:40innings to get us into the 6th and keep us in the game.
- 9:43Can't be mad at that. Yeah, relative to I was
- 9:45starting, like I said, it's still another rough outing.
- 9:48But when you were able to just really extend like that,
- 9:52obviously you don't want to give up the runs, but it was just, it
- 9:54was just too much to overcome, especially with Dolphins
- 9:57inconsistencies, you know? Exactly.
- 10:00So it's just too much overcome. Then you've got put in Paul to
- 10:04pitch for Evans in the 7th and he gave up another three,
- 10:09another three runs to make it 7, I think was the final of that
- 10:16game. Yeah, 7:00 to 4:00.
- 10:19But you know, like I said, that was a depressing.
- 10:22I left that game early because I tried to come back to finish
- 10:25watching the women's basketball game.
- 10:27Yeah, but that was a rough day altogether.
- 10:29Yeah, I know. Then, you know, we come back
- 10:34Saturday and we have a big game. You know, William Schmidt shut
- 10:39him down. He looked real.
- 10:40Close. Then he pitched 5 and a third.
- 10:45Gave up six hits, walked two, struck out three, you know, and
- 10:50then you got Zach Collin coming in and through the rest of the
- 10:54game. Gave up one hit, Walked one.
- 10:57Seven strikeouts. This is Dern Straight School of
- 11:00Dalton. Yeah, and he looked fantastic.
- 11:03And shout out to the diamond baseball, Yes, counts on my
- 11:08fantasy team for that. Good, good.
- 11:12Yeah. So he does good, you know, will
- 11:16look good. But huge weekend for him.
- 11:18And honestly, I don't know who we start and let's we'll get
- 11:22into the Saturday, the Sunday game.
- 11:24I don't know who we need to start, but Guidry is not a
- 11:27starter. Yeah.
- 11:31He went one and a third, gave up three hits, six runs, four walks
- 11:36in two hit by pitches. We can't have that.
- 11:39You know, luckily for him, he didn't pick up AL because
- 11:42Garcia, Binge, Williams, Rizzi, Sharon and Locky Meyer and
- 11:48thought no, picked it up and helped him.
- 11:50But also some guys we're going to talk about on this other
- 11:53list, you know, helped him offensively, and none bigger
- 11:58than Seth Dardar. Oh man what a resurgence bro.
- 12:02Massive, massive comeback. Yeah, and then all he does last
- 12:05night was. Add to it.
- 12:09Come off the bench after a rain delay and hit a triple.
- 12:14Yes, first of the year. Yep.
- 12:18Could have used that on Sunday. You would have hit for the
- 12:20cycle. Hey.
- 12:23But, I mean, daughter's bat went high, went farther than any ball
- 12:29Jake Brown unfortunately hit all weekend.
- 12:34Yeah. Then that center field of a
- 12:38Southern last night. Oh.
- 12:39My grad club isn't that was. An amazing play an.
- 12:43Amazing catch had had tipped that just he's you know what's
- 12:47funny yeah you know it's funny I.
- 12:49Can't believe we reviewed that he he jumped on the warning
- 12:53track, caught it and hit the wall like this.
- 12:56Yes. He caught the ball.
- 12:58Why did we? Waste the Completed the whole
- 13:01football. Complete the process.
- 13:03That's complete the process. Exactly.
- 13:06And The thing is like, you know, it's funny, I looked at his, I
- 13:09looked on Southern's website, sports website, looked him up.
- 13:13He's a senior, so unfortunately he's not going to have any
- 13:16eligibilities. You know, I was listening to the
- 13:18morning skull this morning. Some people say like, you know,
- 13:21we got to get Radcliffe. Yeah, I mean no eligibility,
- 13:26Lou, I. Mean they came out.
- 13:30I don't know what happened to Stanfield with that one, but
- 13:33that game should have ended a lot earlier.
- 13:36Yeah. I'm not hating on him.
- 13:38He makes that play 9 out of probably 10 out of 10 Times Now
- 13:42that he missed. He missed that one.
- 13:44I don't know if it went through the webbing, his glove or it
- 13:46just went off. He misread it and it went off
- 13:48the top, right off the top, but it just, it's very rare for him
- 13:54to do that, but he is on fire offensively lately.
- 13:57Yes Oh yes, he looked single in the first got on base four times
- 14:01to five innings yesterday yeah this is crazy I.
- 14:05Mean, it's crazy. And then he's, like we said
- 14:09before, having him come back was huge.
- 14:12Yeah. And people say online he like
- 14:15he's the leader of the team. I say just like, yeah.
- 14:17And I it's hard to argue that because this immediate when you
- 14:20talk about immediate impact led the team in in conference
- 14:24batting average last year and then you come back off like
- 14:28missing like a couple weeks and you have an instantaneous
- 14:32response for the team. Yeah.
- 14:34You just can't replace that. It's hard to replace that.
- 14:37Exactly, and I will say this, that game on Sunday, the fight
- 14:42and everything, they got a screenshot of it.
- 14:46We started the weekend off OK as a three seed and they had a
- 14:53Baseball America which nobody cares about.
- 14:55Baseball America might as well shut their doors.
- 14:58Everybody. The only ones people care about
- 14:59nowadays is the D1. D1.
- 15:02D1 is the pole that everybody uses anyway, but LSU is a
- 15:07projected 2 seed right now. We've gone from a three seed to
- 15:10a two seed and they have us projectors going projected going
- 15:13to Virginia, but I think that's going to.
- 15:15All change. We've got a lot of season and a
- 15:17lot of rankings and a lot of very good teams left to play at.
- 15:22Current we are three. Games behind in the SEC and
- 15:26oddly enough, and I don't think that I don't remember this ever
- 15:30happening, but LSU was the only team to not sweep that one
- 15:34weekend series this weekend to not have a sweep.
- 15:39The LSU Kentucky series was the only one weekend series that
- 15:42went 2 and 1 I think. Tennessee got swept by
- 15:47Vandessee. Got swept by Vandy on a.
- 15:51Walk, but wouldn't it like walk us every game or?
- 15:53To walk, I think it was, it was at least two walk offs because
- 15:57one on Saturday was 16 innings and ended in a bunt, a walk off
- 16:01bunt, and then the one on Sunday ended in a walk off.
- 16:04I think it was a walk off Grand Slam my.
- 16:07Gosh. For Vandy.
- 16:09But we are four and five in the SEC, much better place than we
- 16:12were on at this time in 24. And I think it's starting to
- 16:17come together. We're turning more double place.
- 16:19We're trusting. Dardar and Milam are trusting
- 16:21each other to, yeah, turn to double plays.
- 16:24Picked it up defensively. Honestly, unless Dardar Pearson
- 16:30goes down, I don't see Caraway getting into this lineup because
- 16:33Pearson's doing a fantastic job at third base.
- 16:36Yeah. And Dardar and Milam seem to be
- 16:41doing that. But it's hard to take Dardar as
- 16:43bad at out the lineup, especially when he's playing a
- 16:46good second base. He's not throwing the ball away
- 16:49like he did at the beginning of the season.
- 16:51I know the Pearson like I know like he had a bet like toward
- 16:53the end of the game yesterday, like he had a bad like an error
- 16:56throw to 1st. It was because it looked like
- 16:58the delivery was kind of lazy or just like delayed.
- 17:01I was like, I don't like to look how it's coming out.
- 17:03Obviously to see the ball fall short of first base, but just
- 17:07like the the Winder was kind of delayed or Winder was kind of.
- 17:11Yeah. Fluid I can't really start to
- 17:13describe. Yeah, I'm no, yeah, I'm not
- 17:15going to lie, I didn't see it because they started a game back
- 17:19up at 10:00. Yeah, listen, like I finished my
- 17:23nose this morning. I was like, I just don't sleep
- 17:25early and just. I watched him to get to I
- 17:28watched him get to 16 to 6 and I was comfortable they were going
- 17:33to win. Hopefully they 10 run Rd. and I
- 17:35went to bed. Yeah, I'm there.
- 17:38Was there was the way the weather was last night, they
- 17:41could have ended up in another 2 hour rain delay.
- 17:45Yeah. But you know, I think I would
- 17:50put it in my notes with Dardar. Hopefully I wrote this down.
- 17:54OK, This was, I didn't write it down apparently, but he was
- 18:04maybe I did. Where's mine?
- 18:06Dardar for the Kentucky series was 6 for 10/4 double s and that
- 18:13huge three run home run, you know.
- 18:15He leaves. He leaves the LSU in double s
- 18:18right now. Yeah, and then Pearson is just
- 18:20on a hot streak at the plate, but Milan hit that ball so hard
- 18:24last night from the left side that he put him in a lightning
- 18:28delay. Perfect.
- 18:29Time. I mean, you can't get, don't get
- 18:33much better than that. Yeah.
- 18:36But Jake Brown needs to calm down, get it together.
- 18:39We can't be wasting challenges on balls that you think you
- 18:42can't believe that was caught because everybody in that
- 18:45stadium knew that he caught that ball last night except Jake
- 18:48Brown. I don't think he I think he was
- 18:49just shocked that somebody did what he couldn't do in the
- 18:52outfield and made a catch. It was a blow to his ego.
- 18:57Got Dick, that guy's a dude but and just he made like 3 great
- 19:01catches. I'm like but like you see a
- 19:02pattern here already. Yeah, but I mean, look, for me,
- 19:09we've cleaned up some aspects of the game and then we suffer in
- 19:12another one in where we suffered twice this weekend was base
- 19:17running Omar Serna. At first they hit a long fly
- 19:22ball to center field. He gets doubled up at first
- 19:26because I don't know what. I looked up and it looked like
- 19:29he was on second base, like he was tagging, waiting for him to
- 19:32catch it and to tag and go back to first on 2nd instead of just
- 19:38going halfway and waiting to find out what we're doing.
- 19:40Then Mason Braun, I would have, personally, I would have glued
- 19:43him to the bench until he knew it, until he learned, until the
- 19:48next frag is where he learned how to run the bases because it
- 19:52was a big moment. I think we were still down by 2.
- 19:57Is this the game? Yeah.
- 19:59Let's see. I think it was the was it the
- 20:038th? No, it must have been Bronze
- 20:05singled, then daughter advanced to 3rd, then Stanfield singled
- 20:09to right field. Josh Jordan is sitting there
- 20:12before he even rounded second to come with his hands out like
- 20:16stop sign and he just never even looked in.
- 20:20Was out by 3 or 4 feet, 3 or 4 steps at 3rd.
- 20:25And at that point in the 5th, we were still we were down by 3.
- 20:32Yeah. At that point.
- 20:34So that was huge, you know? Yeah, that's indeed.
- 20:40At that point that was huge, so we need to run the bases better.
- 20:44Right. We can't get all these other.
- 20:47We can't get the offense going. If then forget how to run the
- 20:50bases. But yeah, we talked about it.
- 20:51We talked about this is a common thing with the team as far as
- 20:54year, just like, you know, you just you hold, you rise in one
- 20:58area and they're like you, you drop and another like there's
- 21:03no, we're not, we got to hold up all the cups right here at the
- 21:06same level. Exactly.
- 21:09But you know, this weekend was full of drama, Yes.
- 21:13I have never seen a coach wine like Nick Mangione in Kentucky.
- 21:18Oh my gosh, it's always sudden. Wines specifically, OK, we had
- 21:25that double play that Brown got from a single they threw and he
- 21:30threw it straight to the plate or no, it was a fly out and
- 21:34because we got to double play on, it was a fly out from right
- 21:37and then runner was on 3rd and he hosed him at the plate, went
- 21:40and tried to complain that Josh Pearson obstructed the runner
- 21:44from leaving third in a timely manner.
- 21:47Then we had a 15 minute delay because he couldn't understand
- 21:51and get it through his thick skull that you can't.
- 21:54That is not a reviewable play. Then Dardar wanted almost got to
- 21:57Kentucky's pitching coach wanted to start a fight with Jay
- 22:00Johnson. Like, yeah, because they was
- 22:04mouthing out there that's it was intense.
- 22:06It was intensity in that serial man.
- 22:08Yeah, but I mean, you got Kentucky, who on walk every time
- 22:12the pitcher throws the ball, they sit there and I better sit
- 22:14there and like, what are you doing?
- 22:16Like you're not if the pitcher. Threw me the.
- 22:19Ball you, the pitcher threw me a ball.
- 22:21I would look in and just lock back in and not beat my chest
- 22:24like a moron. I mean, you're not.
- 22:26It's not. It's like when it's like when
- 22:28defensive players in football, the kid trips over his shoelaces
- 22:33and goes down and they not, they go down untouched in those
- 22:36linebackers and cornerbacks to start beating their chest and
- 22:39puffing out their chest. Like they made, they made the
- 22:42best tackle in the country that night.
- 22:45You know, like they just made the most amazing tackle of their
- 22:48career that's going to get them to be #1 in the draft.
- 22:52And the kid tripped over his shoelaces.
- 22:53It was like that Kentucky, they were throwing balls and they
- 22:57were beating their chest like they did something like they
- 22:59made the pitcher throw a ball. No, it was this trash umpire
- 23:03behind the plate that couldn't know didn't know a ball from a
- 23:08strike or a text wing to save his life.
- 23:10You know the ABF, the ABF we. Need to get that.
- 23:14It's taking. It's taking the MLB by storm.
- 23:16People love it. I love it.
- 23:19My gosh, that's. What?
- 23:20I love the rule. I also love the rule that you
- 23:23cannot use ABS if a position player has to come in to pitch.
- 23:30You know, I love that rule because that happened and I
- 23:32think somebody got mad and almost got thrown out again last
- 23:36week because a position player was pitching and he was OK.
- 23:42This was clearly a ball. It crossed the man his eyes and
- 23:45that umpire says strike three. Absolutely not.
- 23:50Yeah, personally, I think that is just when the umpires can be
- 23:54petty and be like their old horrible selves.
- 23:57But see, and that's but, but people say that about them
- 24:00because it's like, you know, their eagles are too big.
- 24:03Yeah. It's like they don't come to the
- 24:05game for you. I mean, we just want you to make
- 24:06the great calls. Nobody's saying your job is easy
- 24:09and it's perfect, but it's like, yeah, it'll be excellent.
- 24:13I mean look, Musso said it best at the game, yelled it at the
- 24:16umpire. The reason AI is taking over
- 24:20their jobs is because they're so terrible at their jobs.
- 24:22There was one where it was clear ball for a mop, the bat was on
- 24:26Milam's shoulder and he just went like this.
- 24:29They said the home plate umpire didn't even point to get a
- 24:33second opinion from the first first or I think it was third
- 24:38base umpire didn't even bother going to check with him, rang
- 24:42him up, called him out, strike three.
- 24:44They're the reason why we have this ABS system.
- 24:47They're the reason why robots are taking over as umpires.
- 24:51And I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple of years they just
- 24:54go fully automated and they get rid of all umpires.
- 24:58Listen, like The thing is like that's a, it's already a
- 25:01privilege. You still have your job because
- 25:03people have been calling for your job for years already.
- 25:07You just look in the WBC like a couple weeks ago, it's like
- 25:10Venezuela. They, I think it was Venezuela,
- 25:11they lost to the US on a bad call.
- 25:14I'm like, man, that is a terrible call.
- 25:17That's a terrible miss. I was shocked.
- 25:19They called. I'll say, Oh well, that's well.
- 25:23I mean, you've got these guys and I'm not saying it's easy to,
- 25:26yeah, especially with the guys throwing like they throw
- 25:29nowadays, you know, to even see the ball coming in because I
- 25:35mean, and I'm not taking up for umpires because I most of 90% of
- 25:40umpires that I've seen or I've ever had a you do as long as
- 25:45you're a umpire or a referee, if I'm watching my team play or if
- 25:50I'm playing against you, it's 99% your fault.
- 25:53And I can't stand you and I hate your guts.
- 25:57It's personal. But I will say this.
- 26:00As you know, you can stand there as a batter, stand in that box,
- 26:06that 100 mile an hour fastball is coming right at him like it
- 26:09isn't you all. The difference is he's got to
- 26:12sit there, especially if he's behind LSU's catchers.
- 26:14He has to sit there and wonder if that kids going to catch that
- 26:17ball or if he's going to get hit.
- 26:18And I'm wondering those guys at LSU with that bad because Kate
- 26:23Aaron, BD and Omar Sarna missed so many balls that they flinch
- 26:27every time the ball comes. I saw it today and I want to
- 26:30know is just catching in this country at this point across the
- 26:34country so atrocious that Cade Aaron Beatty is on the mid
- 26:40season watch list for the Buster Posey award for the catcher of
- 26:45the year award. I'm not hating on Cade Aaron
- 26:48Beatty. No, I'm not hating on, I'm just
- 26:52saying that I'm just. Because I know where you go with
- 26:56it. You at this point, sometimes I
- 26:59feel like I have a better chance of going out there.
- 27:03Haven't caught from a real pitcher since high school.
- 27:07My freshman year. I sometimes I feel like I have a
- 27:09better chance of just sitting out there and just catching the
- 27:12ball. I've never seen so many balls
- 27:15bounce out of a catch's Mitt. Yeah, man, like speed, I made a
- 27:18notice like I remember Sterner the the other day.
- 27:21He did a great job of extending standing like it's like out
- 27:25stretching and all just to prevent wild pitch scenarios.
- 27:27Yeah, I'm like that was that was that was Sunday.
- 27:32And I was like, man, I'm looking at it was like 3 at least three
- 27:34or four times. I'm like, because that's that's.
- 27:37Been last night too. Yeah, just.
- 27:39On one, but I mean, dude, you know, we're struggling to throw
- 27:46stripes. OK, yeah, you aren't helping
- 27:48anybody when you take a ball from right here and move it a
- 27:55whole 4 inches in. This trying to pitch frame but
- 27:58others like secure the pitch though.
- 27:59I do like the fact that when we get these strikeouts nowadays,
- 28:03now we're not throwing around the horn, we're not pretending
- 28:06to be something we're not. We're going.
- 28:08We're getting a strikeout, catching it, going straight back
- 28:10to the pitcher. I like that, you know, gives you
- 28:14less time to mess something up. All right, now I got a question.
- 28:17I thought this was just a heads up baseball play last night by
- 28:20Milan run. He's on 1st.
- 28:24It's a 3 two count. He steals.
- 28:28OK, Yeah. He gets to 2nd, looks over at
- 28:31third. Nobody's covering the bag
- 28:34because of a shift. Yeah, and it was a walk.
- 28:37He takes off and goes to 3rd. Southern makes a pitching
- 28:40change. Those umpires go tell Jay
- 28:42Johnson they're putting him back on 3rd.
- 28:45Last I checked, a walk was not a dead ball.
- 28:47Why does he have to go back? That's why I was the same thing.
- 28:51I was wondered I'm like had a good date.
- 28:55These catches and umpires are so quick to throw a ball out of
- 29:00play after a walk when his run is on.
- 29:03I think that's what the reason why Milan had to go back.
- 29:06I think. I don't know, I didn't.
- 29:08They didn't show it because they had a pitching change.
- 29:12I think that catcher looked at that ball, threw it to the side
- 29:17and put his net up for the umpire to give him a ball.
- 29:20Yeah, I was saying that I was wondering.
- 29:21I'm like, man, because this shouldn't be like it's a lot
- 29:24because because he, he felt in second base, they had a fumble.
- 29:27They they fumble the ball at second base and it's like, and
- 29:30then you, I don't know, man. On that one it never even got
- 29:34thrown to second base it. Yeah, that's yeah, right.
- 29:37I'm thinking, no, I'm thinking about, I'm sorry.
- 29:38I'm thinking about the one later.
- 29:40I'm thinking about something. Different.
- 29:41Yeah. They threw it straight back to
- 29:43the pitcher, and the pitcher looked like he was confused.
- 29:46Yeah. You know, Yeah.
- 29:48So I don't know. But big part of that is we win
- 29:51that game. Yes.
- 29:53And we're riding a three-game winning streak going into
- 29:56Tennessee. And because that Diamond
- 29:59Baseball app is so helpful. Yeah.
- 30:03I don't know how much you've been using it.
- 30:05They've been clutched with like the updates, man, because
- 30:08because you know, ESP, you can't allow ESPN for baseball.
- 30:11You can't. Rely on the ES.
- 30:12It's ridiculous. Baseball as that I could on that
- 30:14earlier this year. I'm like, yeah, can't do it,
- 30:17but. It's cool they are so it is so
- 30:20handy for me not have to go on the web page and look up stats.
- 30:24LSU Wire because I wouldn't see the start of the LSU Wire.
- 30:27I'm just just when I was at work trying to find the live updates.
- 30:30But even like on Sunday, when Kentucky would change pictures,
- 30:35all I had to do was open the app, go to the Pictures tab and
- 30:38find, OK, here's where we're at. What number is he?
- 30:44He's we're about to get four runs off of him.
- 30:47He's got 7 innings pitched. He's given up nine runs.
- 30:51That last guy Kentucky threw out there when Sunday, a position
- 30:56player, he's an outfielder at least as an outfielder and
- 30:59catcher. Found that out off that app as
- 31:02it was happening because nobody knew who he was, you know, but I
- 31:06got some information for the upcoming series but just because
- 31:11I've listed it out every week so far since we started on this bad
- 31:14streak, the batting average team batting average has finally gone
- 31:18up it's almost 300. We're at 291.
- 31:21Yeah, Team ERA is down from. Let's see where I had it.
- 31:27It's a tick up. No, it's down again.
- 31:29We're at 452. OK.
- 31:34I was thinking 5 those four or five, yeah. 452 and then, and
- 31:42I'm going to check that I'm getting all these stats from OK,
- 31:44so these are updated and good. The fielding percentage, that
- 31:52app has our fielding percentage at 97972.
- 31:57LSU has our fielding percentage at 964 and they have our LSU has
- 32:01our team ERA as 473 and they have it at 4:52.
- 32:06I'm going to just go at 4:52 because I'm going off the
- 32:09numbers I also got from that app for Tennessee and I'm going to
- 32:15go back and recheck this real quick because I made an error.
- 32:19See, it happens. Yeah, I made an error.
- 32:21I forgot it. I forgot it too.
- 32:23OK, so then we go to Tennessee. Tennessee's team batting average
- 32:27is 273. So we got them there, but that's
- 32:31about the only place we have them because they're ERA is 370
- 32:34and they're building percentage is 985.
- 32:37We're getting better fielding, you know, we're getting, we're
- 32:40getting better. We're getting there.
- 32:42We're still not over that hump yet, but we're getting there.
- 32:46And I like it. Yeah.
- 32:51And there's any training, any momentum?
- 32:53Any momentum you can get, we definitely needed that.
- 32:55That's Kentucky winning that. Any day you can pull from moving
- 32:58forward is what you should go with.
- 33:01Yeah, you know, we're we're training upward and I like it.
- 33:05You know, the game seemed fun to him.
- 33:07Yeah, yeah. You know, you know, it seemed
- 33:12fun to him. They're starting to hit again.
- 33:16They're starting to get it together.
- 33:17And I like that. You know, we will.
- 33:20Let's go into the powerhouse pose.
- 33:22I'll let you go first. But they're pulling up right
- 33:25now. So Week 7 powerhouse pulls.
- 33:28So starting off with pitching, you know, I got William Schmidt,
- 33:33Zach Cowan at 2 and Demis Sheeran to round out the top
- 33:37three. You know, Schmidt and Cowan, you
- 33:39know, they produce a combined shutout on Saturday, you know,
- 33:42versus in Game 2 versus Kentucky.
- 33:44We just don't, we just don't win the series without them.
- 33:46Like just, yeah. Just like even regardless of
- 33:50what happened, we we could have won fifty to two in game three
- 33:53against on Sunday, but this series is something we had to
- 33:57have because we've already lost the 1st 2 conference.
- 34:00We already lost the 1st 2 conference series and really
- 34:02dating back to SAC state, we've lost three series overall on the
- 34:05road. So it's like we needed, we
- 34:07needed this one bad. And, you know, just and.
- 34:10You know, yeah, to that point they said also, you know, we
- 34:15were 3 and 15 in SEC play in 24. Yes.
- 34:19We didn't win our first SEC series until we went and played
- 34:22Missouri in late April and we won our SEC series in late March
- 34:29because today is April Fool's Day, you know, so we're a month
- 34:36ahead of schedule for our comeback, which is why I
- 34:40personally think we could have a we could at least get to the
- 34:44host if we win every we went out series wise this week, this
- 34:48year, the rest of this year, we can have a thing.
- 34:51But my first two are the same as you.
- 34:54I've got William Schmidt and Zach Cowan for the same reasons
- 34:57You can't, we don't win this series without those two
- 34:59preaching performances. But just because this is a guy
- 35:03who struggled in the past with control and he came out and
- 35:08looked good and got to save on Sunday.
- 35:11I got Grant Fortno being the my number three guy.
- 35:16Yeah. Yeah.
- 35:16And then I'll go ahead for offense.
- 35:19You know, we talked about this already.
- 35:21Seth dardar #1 He was 6 for 10 against Kentucky with four
- 35:24double s and a, yeah, huge backflip to give us the lead on
- 35:29college. Oh.
- 35:30My gosh. John Pearson because 2.
- 35:36I don't think we're even in that game without his Grand Slam on
- 35:38Sunday. Listen.
- 35:40I mean, listen, no doubt we we used to score because we started
- 35:45off as we get first, get the hits and we do get the hits.
- 35:47We don't get them home enough. Yeah.
- 35:49So yeah. That was something Jay said on
- 35:53Friday night. The key for them was to they put
- 35:58it in their game plan and they wanted as goals 3 string
- 36:04together 3 consecutive big hits and they only did it once.
- 36:09But capping it off I got Steven Monster Milam.
- 36:13I saw that saw deleted, deleted. Yeah, well, last night I
- 36:19normally try to finish mine for the weekend series.
- 36:23Yeah, but I had to give it to Milam because not only did he
- 36:27have a two home run night, he did it from both sides of the
- 36:29plate. Yeah.
- 36:30You know, which is the first time that's happened 20. 4.
- 36:33Did it? Yeah, in 24 he did it.
- 36:35In 24 against Wofford, which was a walk off.
- 36:39Yeah. For that regional game, you
- 36:43know, and then John Pearson, like I said, we don't think
- 36:45we're in that Sunday game without his Grand Slam, you
- 36:48know, and I give an honorable mention to Derek Curiel.
- 36:52He had two homers this week and a huge Grand Slam last night to
- 36:58put us back in the game before Milan got his second home run to
- 37:04tie the game. I'll throw it over to you.
- 37:06Yeah. So for offense, you know Sam
- 37:08Dardar was a clear #1RE emerging a major way in this in this
- 37:12series against Kentucky, like you had brought up, you know the
- 37:14six total hits and you have 5 ribbies, including the monster 3
- 37:18and like that called the monster 3 three run.
- 37:20Go ahead Homer game three, you know, just was the iconic bad
- 37:24foot with good measure for good measure.
- 37:27You know, like I said earlier, now leads the team in double S
- 37:29this season and also I prefer, you know, second place.
- 37:32I got John Pearson and Stephen Bottle and Ronda just like you,
- 37:35just they both both had numerous RB is, you know, like I was
- 37:38early in this most of the season.
- 37:40I looked at John Pearson, you know, very powerful swinger, but
- 37:43just it's like swinger of the bat, but just just a lot of
- 37:46strikeouts when I've seen so far.
- 37:49But he's really starting to find his groove.
- 37:50Just like, you know, with power hitters, you know, this is, you
- 37:53know, hit or miss. I know that's cliche, but just
- 37:55it was like a lot of hard misses.
- 37:57But you know, he to his credit, you know, he he's getting making
- 38:00contact and you seen in a major way this this this weekend
- 38:04monster Milo just doing it there, doing it All in all
- 38:07shapes and sizes, all forms. That's just so impressive.
- 38:11Just like to me, like the switch header just to get it, get the
- 38:13contact like that. It just seems very excellent.
- 38:16And you know, I, I made a separate note, just, you know,
- 38:18originally I had Chris Stanfield at three.
- 38:20It was a tough omission because he was excellent.
- 38:22You know, he had 454 during the Kentucky series, including four
- 38:26heads and a walk on Sunday. You know, like we brought up
- 38:28Derrick. It was a tough omission.
- 38:30But like, that's why I like to say that's a good problem.
- 38:33I'm not going to lie, before last night, Stanny was my number
- 38:35three guy. Same here.
- 38:37I had them. I had them listed.
- 38:40Yeah. Tough.
- 38:43It was a tough one, but what did it for me was the mile and tied
- 38:46that game up when we were they found their fight.
- 38:49Yes, they found they found a fight in Fighting Tigers.
- 38:54And I'm hoping you can come back and beat a team in Tennessee
- 38:59this weekend who just came off the struggle bus and we can
- 39:02leave them back on the struggle bus.
- 39:04We can get we can be 7 and five in the SEC with the Easter
- 39:08miracle, Good Lord rising, Good Lord rising and LSU rising back
- 39:16up in the SEC. Polls because we need his power.
- 39:20It would be, it would be amazing.
- 39:23It would truly be an Easter miracle for us to go to
- 39:26Tennessee. Indeed.
- 39:27Of course, Special Digger won this series too.
- 39:30Yeah, I'll let you go defense now.
- 39:33Yeah, I got you. So defense surrounded up, you
- 39:36know, Steven Milam, Derek Carell or Jake Brown in the top three.
- 39:41Yeah, like I said, the monster Milam, you know, just as we did,
- 39:43we said this last week, just Sharpie.
- 39:45And then it just like defense is the race for 2nd place at this
- 39:48point. But just, you know, I know I
- 39:51like had Steven like second or third like a couple weeks ago.
- 39:54But just outside of that, I mean he he just a fixture in the top
- 39:57three and you know, Curry on the Curry on Brown had were standing
- 40:01outfield for the most part. No, no, no, no, like no, nothing
- 40:05really feeling wise. Really wild to me.
- 40:07This this stress. Just they just made the routine
- 40:10plays as they should. There were no Ratcliffe, the web
- 40:13gyms type stuff. Just make the routine plays
- 40:16which no currio was very active Currio.
- 40:19Currio did have one to me, that one where he ran from left
- 40:23center to right center and pluck that ball out the air.
- 40:26That was a yeah, even though he like my number 2 and my number
- 40:31three guys both had major mess ups this weekend.
- 40:34That's right. For their standards, OK, for
- 40:37Jake Stan, for Jake Brown, who's my three guy, that's not really
- 40:40for his standards. That's just how he plays.
- 40:45You take it and you leave it with him.
- 40:47But Steven Milam, of course, my number one guy, I mean, turned
- 40:52to double play by himself on Friday.
- 40:54He's turned double plays by himself all season.
- 40:57Had a monster play to save a run from us being losing 8 to 4 on
- 41:03Friday night. Derek Curiel, like I said, he
- 41:06had that one play where he did, but he also had one where he
- 41:10took his eye off of it and tried.
- 41:12He could have stood there and not jumped.
- 41:15He decided he needed to jump and he hit off the wall and he
- 41:19missed it. He misread it.
- 41:20Yeah. But he was such a solid player
- 41:24defensively that he took my number two spot.
- 41:28Then Jake Brown, just his arm got him on this list.
- 41:32Yeah, that double play he got on Sunday was huge.
- 41:40It shifted to momentum in that game.
- 41:41Yes. You know, that's why he's on
- 41:46this list. You know, Will was gracious
- 41:47enough to update the poles for the US for mid season.
- 41:57Yes, Sir. So let's our leaders pitching
- 42:02wise, it's William Schmidt's running away with it.
- 42:05Some guys are going to get a chance to come up and get second
- 42:10or third place since Moore is out in.
- 42:13By the way, Speaking of Cooper Moore to me, and I don't know
- 42:19how that sounds to you, but to me it sounds a lot like 3 season
- 42:24when we lost Edwards. And it sounds a lot like Guidry
- 42:29too, when we lost Edwards in 23 and we lost Chase Shores.
- 42:34Yeah. They were like, oh, they're
- 42:38close to coming back. They're close to coming back
- 42:41only for them to be sad. They the UCL or Tommy John,
- 42:48Yeah. And then Gavin Guidry was coming
- 42:53back all last year. Coming back all last year.
- 42:55So then finally shut him down. Yes, all I heard last.
- 42:59Year, so I will choose to be kind of optimistic about it, but
- 43:04I will say I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't come
- 43:08back this season. Yeah, that's an interesting
- 43:11point because it's it's unfortunate because like, you
- 43:14know, especially, you know, Jay is always he's pretty close to
- 43:17the vest when it comes to injury.
- 43:19You know, I understand that from from a certain standpoint, but
- 43:21maybe, you know, it's just guys you want to protect the guys and
- 43:24you know, reveal too much. But just like, but as far as
- 43:28like, you know, production wise, if you when you look at the
- 43:31screen share, I think shout out to Justin for the screen
- 43:33sharing. Just Cason Evans has just a one
- 43:36point lead, but really Cooper Moore has been far more steady.
- 43:40It is just a case that he's just peaked.
- 43:42He's just peaked tired because there's like twice, you know,
- 43:45twice in the last four weeks that just and I ranked case in
- 43:48it as a number one guy. So to his credit note he has the
- 43:51stuff, the Friday night stuff, but he's just not a steady
- 43:54enough. But Cooper Moore has been far
- 43:56more steady in comparison. So like, obviously, you know,
- 43:59with his injury obviously going to dip some more and less like,
- 44:03you know, Schmidt or Evans, God forbid, like they just fall off
- 44:06the map hit performance wise. But William Smith definitely
- 44:10been the steadiest guy. He's really emerged as the
- 44:12number one guy production wise on paper, and that's reflected
- 44:16once again this past. Week look, I was very low on our
- 44:20pitches a Week 2 weeks ago in case in Evan goes out there and
- 44:25has the career night. Yeah, I compliment him and he
- 44:31has a career low lights. You got to do better, You got to
- 44:35be better. I'm going to come on here, you
- 44:36can throw and just because I don't know what's going on, I'm
- 44:42a trash talk you case in Evans every week you could throw 21
- 44:46get 21 strikeouts and I'm going to be like, well, you could have
- 44:49got 282525 Yeah, could have got you could have gone 21.
- 44:55You could have got 22. She throws a she throws a
- 45:01perfect game. You could have got that 28th out
- 45:04well. Well, the game was only 27 else.
- 45:05I don't care. Give me 30 else.
- 45:07You could have got 28th, you could have got that 20. 8th I'm
- 45:13not asking for 5th, I'm asking for 28th.
- 45:16Yeah, but you know, Guidry didn't look good at all this
- 45:20weekend. Yeah, he's really cooled off,
- 45:22man. Just he was on top.
- 45:24You know, Zach, count on the standings and you really surpass
- 45:26him as in the in the yeah spots, but.
- 45:30I mean, a week ago, a week ago, they just left him in too long
- 45:33and cost us a series win against Oklahoma.
- 45:36He was doing fantastic. But as a starting pitcher, and
- 45:41OK, here's what I think is his thing as a relief pitcher, He's
- 45:44coming in in those tight spots, those high energy spots.
- 45:50Yeah. And that's what fuels him as a
- 45:53pitcher is those high energy moments, those high adrenaline
- 45:58moments where the game is on the line.
- 46:00You know, him as a starting pitcher, he doesn't have that,
- 46:03you know, high octane, this game is on me type of deal.
- 46:08And I think it shows. And that's why he I don't think
- 46:10he's a starting pitcher. I think we need to start
- 46:14somebody else on, you know? Was was bringing to the point
- 46:18about you. It's very interesting you say
- 46:20that because like going into this weekend, I, I just thought
- 46:23for sure Zach Kyle was the guy for day three, but they actually
- 46:26brought him on Saturday. Now it paid it off.
- 46:28So that's why I'm not a two time.
- 46:29I'm not mad at it because I'm not mad at that because that's a
- 46:34sure guy out to bullpen. Yeah, and they needed to win in
- 46:38the situation. I understand.
- 46:41It's tough to it's tough to say, oh, let's put in, let's not put
- 46:46in Cowan, you know, and on Sunday they said he was in the
- 46:52he went to the bullpen himself and said, I want the ball.
- 46:54If we, it's the closest one, you know, but you know, so we'll go.
- 46:58The next highest guy on this list is Zach Cowan, by the way,
- 47:03with 12 points. Yeah, for the yeah, just leads
- 47:07the bullpen right now as far as bullpen guys, leads, leads the
- 47:12bullpen in both appearances and total points.
- 47:15So he's really turned it around after struggles.
- 47:18This is struggles to start the year.
- 47:20He's appeared on the pole three straight weeks.
- 47:22Yeah, this one here is a you know, I really can see Curiel,
- 47:28Milam, Serna Dardar, if he keeps it up at this point, at this
- 47:35halfway point in the season, swapping places with Jake Brown.
- 47:39Yeah. So yeah, we got Jake Brown,
- 47:41currently 9 points or 9 appearances total with a
- 47:45combined total of 34 points for the polls.
- 47:47So the second highest is Stephen Milam at 15.
- 47:51Got two guys at 12 apiece with Mark, with Curriel and Dardar.
- 47:55Dardo had started off hot for us and then like he had picked it
- 47:58up with two first place finishes this week.
- 48:00Yeah, look, don't count Josh Pearson out.
- 48:04He's. 4:00 and 12:00, that's right.
- 48:06For 3rd place too. Yeah.
- 48:08You know, but enough, you can't say enough about these guys.
- 48:13They start to come back. You know, with the exception of
- 48:19Mason Braun, he had a fantastic offensive weekend.
- 48:22All the reason he didn't is because base running to me,
- 48:25which by the way that new LVP award, the least value
- 48:28performance goes to him in that exact moment with the base
- 48:32running. That's why he's at -1.
- 48:35Yes. Defense, this is never going to
- 48:37change. This is just a race.
- 48:39The 2nd place at this. Point.
- 48:40That's right. Aileman is at first with 52
- 48:45points and 14 appearances. That's right.
- 48:48Maybe it's a race for 3rd at this point because Derek Curio's
- 48:51got 8 appearances and 24 points. Yeah, next closest is
- 48:55technically Chris Stanfield, but I know like you awarded the
- 48:58pitcher points from the a week or so ago.
- 49:00Yeah, because it was just that bad.
- 49:02You weren't you didn't think they were worthy.
- 49:04And I and I get. It and we got Chris Stanfield at
- 49:08coming in and 3rd right now with six appearances and 17 points
- 49:13and that should say something about his presence on this team
- 49:17and I'm going to go ahead and stop sharing and come back.
- 49:21But you know, my tone setting Tiger for this week is again,
- 49:28the whole entire team, Keep that mindset that you had going into
- 49:33Saturday and Sunday's game, especially Sunday's game and
- 49:38even Tuesday's game where it was, we're going to fight and
- 49:42we're going to win. You know, keep that mindset,
- 49:46fight and win. And you got got you your first
- 49:50SEC series when you it was a dry month for March.
- 49:55Oh yeah, you didn't win a series except for Kentucky in March.
- 49:58So keep that momentum going. The fights not over.
- 50:02You got tough games. You got 2 road series
- 50:06back-to-back against two places that are tough to play, you
- 50:10know, in Tennessee and O Piss. Three the next 4 on the road, so
- 50:16in. Most of the time coaching
- 50:19decisions doesn't. For other sports, doesn't
- 50:24effect, but this is Ole Miss and their fan base just tried to run
- 50:28a coach off the road and you are going there and baseball, I can
- 50:32see them trying to run your team bus off the road.
- 50:34You know, it's a crazy time. It's a crazy time.
- 50:38You never know what's going to happen.
- 50:40The Lane Kiffin of the situation, you know, we don't
- 50:42know what's going to happen, but it's energy's going to be high.
- 50:46I'm you know, I actually don't know because some LSU was weird.
- 50:49We are you could call us at everything school because even
- 50:52when the men's basketball team is terrible, they still yeah,
- 50:55they don't go to the games, but it was kind of like the women's
- 50:59basketball before Mulkey got hired.
- 51:03Mulkey gets hired season tickets you know, request shoot up at
- 51:081.24 hours after Wilwade got hired season ticket when up. 754
- 51:16individuals have contacted LSU about season tickets.
- 51:20I always say about. Men's basketball.
- 51:22I always say our sports is the coaching that matters.
- 51:25I always need players. I get it.
- 51:26It's it's about the coach in college by this the move the
- 51:30needle like that. Exactly.
- 51:34Let you know that's my my tone setting.
- 51:36Tiger of the Week is the entire team once again.
- 51:39They just need to keep that mindset, keep that momentum
- 51:42they're building going and get three more wins in the SEC this
- 51:45weekend. As far as I'm with you as far as
- 51:48everyone for the tone setting Tiger, you know, but my angle
- 51:51specifically is like this consistency.
- 51:54You got to be consistency like the it's the hallmark of any
- 51:57respectable team. You I'm you're not going to, I'm
- 51:59not saying you got to be like the 90s Yankees, but just like
- 52:03that dominant, but just like any respectable unit, go ahead.
- 52:08We'll settle for the 90s tigers, we don't have to.
- 52:11That's fair enough. With the 90s, come on with the
- 52:1490s on Yankees. And I'm saying that because I'm
- 52:17a Yankees guy. But just like, yeah, just like
- 52:19The thing is, even if you're not ultra elite, this all time
- 52:23special unit, like any respectable team is going to be
- 52:26consistent largely. And you know, just yeah, I I
- 52:30want, I like the team with steadiness, like, because like
- 52:32we said this like I'm just tired of the Jekyll Hyde stuff.
- 52:36Just like as one thing. I don't know what I'm, this is
- 52:38like this year, I don't know what I'm going to get 99%.
- 52:40I just don't know what I'm going to do want a gift from this team
- 52:43after the A and no start. You just don't know because he
- 52:46you could you could start seeing it during like that.
- 52:49When we was playing northeast, it was playing northeastern and
- 52:53Dartmouth like that four-game stretch.
- 52:55You can kind of see the cracks a little bit.
- 52:57He saw a little bit of McNeese with the loss and then just like
- 53:00that's when the floodgates open. You know like you said, Vandy
- 53:04elite office and Vandy pitches not existent and just vice versa
- 53:09the next you. Yeah.
- 53:11And you know, look, it's funny that, you know, talking about
- 53:15Seth Darla's backflip and all that.
- 53:17I had this discussion with my dad this weekend where he was
- 53:20saying, you know, back in his day, you ran, it didn't matter
- 53:23what happened. You ran the first base, you
- 53:24didn't watch the ball. And I just told him, yeah,
- 53:28that's because back in your day, that was before steroids, that
- 53:31was before they hit the ball and people like Barry Bonds came in
- 53:35and was putting balls in lakes every other at bat.
- 53:38Nobody knew they could do that. So they just sat there and
- 53:41amazed and watched the ball fly at the park.
- 53:43But it was. And then think about there's a
- 53:45lot of dead ball errors in baseball history outside like
- 53:47Babe Ruth and stuff like Ted Williams is like that.
- 53:50That stuff wasn't super commonplace.
- 53:52It's always been a defensive score.
- 53:55The reason why you. Didn't see many.
- 53:56Bad flips is so yeah, the reason why you didn't see that many bad
- 54:00flips and stuff back then is because nobody was on steroids.
- 54:02They were just hitting a, they were hitting a ball with a piece
- 54:05of wood and it just ran because they didn't know where it was
- 54:08going to go. But now these guys took steroids
- 54:10back in the early, the late 90s, early 2000s, they found steroids
- 54:14and when they hit it, the ball goes.
- 54:16Not to mention they hitting the weight training and everything
- 54:20nowadays that these guys have is leaps and bounds from what it
- 54:25was back in that that time. Of course, absolutely.
- 54:30You know, we're talking about the 70s and 80s here that he's
- 54:33talking about. You know, those of you that are
- 54:38younger viewers, yes, we are talking about the 1900s.
- 54:43I hate it when they say that. Yeah, we're talking about the
- 54:471900s here. Early 20s.
- 54:51Yeah, before the before steroids era in baseball, before people
- 54:55were starting to hit balls like that, get home runs became
- 54:58commonplace. That was back when LSU in the
- 55:0090s was with those aluminum bats were hitting hitting records and
- 55:05gorilla ball they. Changed the rules for us.
- 55:08Yeah. And then in 2009, we went up
- 55:11with those orange stealth bats with the trampoline effect.
- 55:15The more you use them, the more they would hit, the better
- 55:17contact you would make. And then they started, Marucci
- 55:20came out with those composite bats and that's what we've been
- 55:22using, which I like the fact that we go, we send our guys up
- 55:26to north to play in those like the Cape Cod and all of that.
- 55:29Those are wood bad leads. Yeah.
- 55:32I like that fact, you know. But closing thoughts.
- 55:36You know, like I said, man, this we needed this the series we
- 55:39we're from Kentucky. Like we said last week, last
- 55:42couple weeks, you would not not really in a panic mode base.
- 55:45You just got so many games to play.
- 55:46But just we both said if we did not win this Kentucky series,
- 55:50the tone is going to change for us a little bit.
- 55:52Thank you. We don't have to worry about it
- 55:54at least for another few days. But just they needed just so bad
- 55:58and just the response was just incredible by this team.
- 56:01I could exactly. I commend those young men, you
- 56:03know, I really do, because they needed it.
- 56:05Yeah, I commend them. You know, you look at it, you
- 56:07look at it, as long as you make it to your conference
- 56:09tournament, which everybody makes it to the SEC tournament
- 56:13nowadays, Yeah, that's just how it goes.
- 56:15As long as you make it to the postseason and you get hot.
- 56:18Yeah, that's OK. Look at old mess and they won in
- 56:2322 right? It was a 21.
- 56:25Yeah, yeah, I miss at least 21 and.
- 56:29Almost 22, almost 22, you look at that in Ole Miss was
- 56:35atrocious in the SEC play until they played us.
- 56:40They played us, they beat us in a weekend series.
- 56:43Redwood rain delays and that's what kind of set them off in my
- 56:47opinion. That's what got them in the
- 56:48tournament was that win at LSU. But you know, you come, they
- 56:54come in with a losing SEC record, they make it all the way
- 56:58to the and win the national championship.
- 57:03That's why baseball is the greatest sport.
- 57:05Doesn't matter who you are, you can get beat on in every other
- 57:08day. Just look at Arkansas last
- 57:10night. Really Arkansas over the
- 57:12weekend, Arkansas got swept at home by Florida.
- 57:15This weekend they. They're not too happy with I saw
- 57:20him on Reddit. They're not too happy.
- 57:21What's what's the course thing? I can't believe or forgot.
- 57:24Van Horn. Van Horn.
- 57:25Yeah. Team.
- 57:26Yeah, yeah. So that's what I thought.
- 57:28Yeah, They're not too happy with them right now.
- 57:31Look, y'all get hate on that man all he wants, but y'all are a
- 57:34school of failure. Look, I don't.
- 57:36You're not right. Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 57:38You're not a school of failure. You're a school of choking.
- 57:42Like that's y'all number 1° over there is choking.
- 57:47Heaven. Y'all choking every sport.
- 57:52Don't blame that man. He's the winningest coach in
- 57:54baseball in your school. Don't blame that man for what's
- 57:57going on. We all hit rough patches and I'm
- 57:59not saying I like the man, I can't stand him, but don't blame
- 58:02him for what's going on over there.
- 58:04But they lost to Missouri State last night, 15 to 14 and 10
- 58:10innings. Tennis.
- 58:12Yeah, so it's just baseball. You know, it happens.
- 58:16I mean, we got beat by little brother a couple weeks ago, but
- 58:20it's just baseball. It happens.
- 58:21You know, at some point though, with LSU, it wasn't just
- 58:24baseball. It was poor decision making and
- 58:28so poor decision making. And it looks like they've got
- 58:30that poor decision making, at least at the moment, you know,
- 58:34locked down. But look, it's like Jay Johnson
- 58:37said in his post game was on on Sunday.
- 58:40I wouldn't be exactly too high on him right now, and I'm not
- 58:45because they haven't shown they can do it consistently.
- 58:49Maybe next week when I'm on spring break in LSU pulls out a
- 58:53weekend series sweep at Tennessee.
- 58:55Or I don't even need a sweep. I just need a series win on the
- 58:59road at a hostile environment. You come out, maybe then I'll
- 59:05say, you know, they're starting to get consistent with it.
- 59:10They've proven they can consistently do it.
- 59:11That's the to me, that's the keyword of this week is
- 59:14consistency. Yeah, that's it.
- 59:16Yep. Well, that'll do it for me.
- 59:18You got anything you want to add?
- 59:21Always supposed to have have me all brother.
- 59:23I appreciate it always. It was a pleasure to have you on
- 59:26Will. I mean, it's always fun time.
- 59:29Yes, Sir, indeed, especially. You did talk about multiple
- 59:32sports in one show. Yes, where is It'll do.
- 59:35Yeah, well that'll do it from us.
- 59:38Please remember to like, comment, subscribe and share.
- 59:42Shout out to Diamond Baseball, the Diamond Baseball app, big
- 59:46things. They just added a website to
- 59:48where you can sign in and do the box scores so the live updates
- 59:53get even better. Cool, that's tough.
- 59:56They're continuously working to make this a great thing for
- 59:59college baseball and get college baseball out there.
- 1:00:01Yeah. I like that.
- 1:00:03Me too. That's what the baseball, that's
- 1:00:05what baseball needs. You shouldn't have to pull up
- 1:00:07different teams is live stats page.
- 1:00:11Do you like the live? Why?
- 1:00:12I'm like bro, this, this would be a 226 man.
- 1:00:16To get a consistent for something as big as college
- 1:00:20baseball. It's it's America's pastime.
- 1:00:23So it's like tradition. Historically, it's like this.
- 1:00:26We shouldn't be still at this point in the college baseball.
- 1:00:28I mean, I know it's regional. I get it.
- 1:00:30Yeah. It's just like you still.
- 1:00:31I mean. You should you.
- 1:00:32You still shouldn't be at this point though.
- 1:00:34It's like we still got to do all this.
- 1:00:36Leave some you do it. For all these college athletics,
- 1:00:39you can put them on, and to me, I think it's huge just for the
- 1:00:42fact that on any given day you can go on ESPN on their app and
- 1:00:50watch any baseball game that you want.
- 1:00:52College baseball, unless you're like D2 or JUCO, they have every
- 1:00:58college baseball game on ESPN for the most part.
- 1:01:01That's huge. That's a step in the right
- 1:01:03direction. And look, I get it it baseball
- 1:01:05is a weird sport. It's not like a football or
- 1:01:09basketball. I mean not even basketball.
- 1:01:12You find a way to put college basketball on there and make it
- 1:01:15huge. I mean just there are two more
- 1:01:17popular, like there's so mainstream popularity.
- 1:01:21Yeah, and with the same restraints that I'm talking
- 1:01:23about for baseball. I get that baseball is not like
- 1:01:26football where NFL plays on Sundays, Thursdays and Sundays
- 1:01:31and Mondays and college football is mainly on Saturdays.
- 1:01:34I get that baseball is a different sport.
- 1:01:38Major leagues play and base the college teams play, they all
- 1:01:41play on the same day. But I still there's no reason
- 1:01:44why college baseball can't be more of a forefront I.
- 1:01:47Mean it should be it's it's crazy like 2020.
- 1:01:49We still we had to get like somebody else to create an app
- 1:01:53that's like we can't go to like like a mainstream like a it's
- 1:01:56it's it's it's outrageous. I'm just glad, like you said,
- 1:02:00they want to shout out to Diamond.
- 1:02:02Yeah, I if they pass that rule where like football you have to
- 1:02:09go to college instead of going in the draft, I think we will
- 1:02:15get more in for college baseball.
- 1:02:17I agree, because just like football, you're going to want
