- 0:02Okay, Pooh said his cousin Carvey could help me out. Let's see the
- 0:06Poosh cousin is medium height, dark complexion, brown eyes, black hair.
- 0:13Are you Carvey? No? Are you Carvey? Yes, you must be
- 0:18mister Hanmer. Finally, four Finger Discount, dude, Welcome to four Finger
- 0:39Discount, the podcast that always outsources its gags. This week we are Hitter
- 0:43review episode h ab F one zero. It is Kiss Kiss Bang Bangalore,
- 0:48And I'm guy who's the guy who always plays hard to milk. How good
- 0:52is outsourcing things? Man? I say that as somebody who lost his job
- 0:56due to outsourcing, But hey, if I didn't lose my job due to
- 0:58outsourcing, oh wouldn't be here. Make you're living talking to you and talking
- 1:00about the Simpsons. That's correct, And you know, we're keeping it in
- 1:03the house for the most part. We're outsourcing a few tasks now and then,
- 1:07but generally speaking, we're we're keeping in house. But there's something to
- 1:11be said for outsourcing. Certainly, yes, I mean, I mean,
- 1:15I'm when it comes to jobs, I'm not pro outsourcing. But the thing
- 1:19is, it's hard to have a solid argument about being prouts against outsourcing when
- 1:26you shop at Kmart and you shop at Target and everything is made in China.
- 1:30It's like you want to complain and you want to fight the good fight.
- 1:34But then you go and you go like, well, there's ten dollars
- 1:36ship at Target. I'm gonna go shit there instead. And this is actually
- 1:40some very nice homewares. This rug is quite delightful and so inexpensive. And
- 1:46kids are like kids like, I know that's you know, I locally produced
- 1:49t shirt, But the one that Target has Lightning McQueen on it, I
- 1:53want that one. Growing up in the Europe that I did as like,
- 2:00oh you're shopping at Target. Oh you're shopping at Chema. Good let pa
- 2:04though you go there, I mean the love of the reason. I like,
- 2:07I'll be going over there week. Some new item of the house where
- 2:10from Cama. That's definitely from Chema. I'm like, that's really good.
- 2:15And that's like the new Bunnings. Go there, you go there to buy
- 2:19something, you leave the twenty things you've had no intention you need that you
- 2:21needed absolutely and I mean, oh, I'm look, I'm not a snob
- 2:24when it comes to my clothing or anything like that, but when I've been
- 2:29going to Cama. That led Zeppelin two shirt actually looks pretty cool and it's
- 2:34got the led Zeppelin. Yeah, it's legit or great for just licensed shit
- 2:38and just like mass producing it. And it's like, you know, everyone's
- 2:40going to have to own this shirt. It's not going to be unique in
- 2:43anyway. But I want a led Zeppelin shirt. Yeah. Or I've still
- 2:46got a like a a Star Wars Japanese poster one that I got from Target.
- 2:52That's fantastic. I wear that to this day. And I got let
- 2:54like for Christmas maybe ten to fifteen years ago. I remember buying it when
- 2:59I was like sixteen. I was like yes please Yeah, and Japanese,
- 3:04so it's a little bit cooler. Yeah. And now they've got they've got
- 3:07a Space Invaders one in a Target with it's like the old it's like an
- 3:12old magazine. Now it's like the Ultimate Gaming Experience or something like that with
- 3:15an old Space Invaderson And I'm like twenty five bucks. Think I made shout
- 3:20out to our shout out to our pals a Kmart and Target. Yeah,
- 3:23if you want to enter into some kind of a note sponsorship deal, but
- 3:28I mean to do so, talk to Dan. Make it happen. By
- 3:30the way, this other podcast is brought to you by our friends at super
- 3:31Over pop Culture can Mention Expo where we are. We went up with Jim
- 3:36Cummings back a couple months ago, didn't we you? We did? Indeed,
- 3:38yes, um Dando and I walked among the nerds, not feeling a
- 3:44bit like Richard Dean Anderson. I might feeling like stars in our own right,
- 3:47but yeah, the one stop shop for all things I don't know,
- 3:52nerdy, dorgy, geeky and just pop cultural. It's good times to be
- 3:55had. M hmm. All right, So we're here to talk about Kiss
- 3:59Kiss Bang Bangalore, another one of those Simpsons go to episodes, And honestly,
- 4:02I don't think I had ever seen this one right, and I'm not
- 4:08gonna lie. I tend to give these ones a mulligan, you know,
- 4:11a free hit, because it's that I'm a bit of a stickler for continuity
- 4:15to an extent, not so much as that much of there used to be.
- 4:17I like there to be some sort of logic, but I know with
- 4:19these ones here, logic tends to get thrown out the window. It's just
- 4:21the Simpsons go somewhere and a bunch of local gags are made. Shit happens
- 4:26right when you take that all into into account. I didn't mind this.
- 4:29I particularly liked the Temple of Doing the final act. I was like,
- 4:31there's gonna be a lot of people like the probably haven't seen Indiana Jones and
- 4:34Temple of Doing that don't get any of this. And I read some reviews
- 4:38online and I'm like, yeah, these people don't know Temple of Doing because
- 4:40like why was home even dressed this way and all this? And I was
- 4:42like, that's a temple of doing. Reference guys, it's clearly what he's
- 4:45what he's dressed up. But I didn't mind it. I particularly though enjoyed
- 4:49the B plot with Richard Dan Anderson. I thought that was an awesome guest
- 4:54appearance. I think that was probably what I enjoyed more Yet all honestly,
- 4:58I liked the the Indian storyline. I mean, it's hard to call him
- 5:01even A plots and B plots. I mean, if I think if you
- 5:03dive it up the times they've probably got oh yeah, India's probably got the
- 5:08edge on it just a little bit. But they felt very even handed and
- 5:12in all honesty, Yeah, I think I like the Yeah, the RDA
- 5:15plots probably a bit more. I just found it kind of fun and yeah,
- 5:18primarily because yeah, Anderson just really went for it. He was like,
- 5:25Okay, yeah, I know I'm sort of the butt of the joke
- 5:28here, but I might turn it around a bit and have a bit of
- 5:30fun with it. And he had a lot of fun with it, and
- 5:32so did I as a result. Yeah, it was. It was really
- 5:34good. Apparently that's played to a bit of truth. Apparently he doesn't really
- 5:38like mcguiver and he much prefers Stargate SG one. I mean, I love
- 5:41STARHG one. But there's apparently in the episode or in the Children of Gods,
- 5:46which is at the first episode of Stargate and anyway, an episode of
- 5:48Stargate in Children of the Gods, the episodes called Sorry Children of the Gods,
- 5:53his character becomes visibly annoyed when another character talks about how they had to
- 5:57mcguiver a control system for Earth Stargate, so when they set the term a
- 6:00giver, he looks at him and gets annoyed. But apparently he said it
- 6:02like conventions and stuff that he much prefers start at HUE one. But I
- 6:06think now he's probably come around, because like for a while they mcgiver was
- 6:10sort of like not the butt of jokes, but it was just sort of
- 6:12like, no, was it was it like laying like mcgiver, mcgiver saying
- 6:15is cool. I don't think it was ever seen as cool. I guess
- 6:19that's why they had Patty and someone like mcgiver, because it was meant to
- 6:21be there. Oh my god, she's like a guiver. It wasn't.
- 6:25It was sort of in the middle ground. I mean, it wasn't like
- 6:27Miami Vice or anything like. There wasn't groundbreaking or anything. But at the
- 6:31same time, it wasn't completely dorky. It was just like, oh,
- 6:35this is one of those action shows. You're watching a you know, it's
- 6:39Thursday, it's seven thirty. It's time for mcgiver to meek into them miraculous
- 6:43escape. It's like, yeah, yeah, cool. You don't have to
- 6:45really pay much attention to it. You can probably you fold your laundry or
- 6:46whatever while it's happening. Was it kind of like Scooby Doo where like,
- 6:50you know, ship goes down, he solves it, he gets out of
- 6:53a situation, and at the end he explains how he did it. It's
- 6:57I never really watched mcguy form that much. Obviously, I never watched the
- 7:00version. I didn't watch the new version. I mean there was a version
- 7:01that was out just a couple of years ago. I think went for something
- 7:03like four seasons, four or four seasons. Good for that, I mean
- 7:08I love that. There are you know, we're always talking about press DG
- 7:11TV and it's like, oh my god, have you watched you know that's
- 7:15TV show. Yeah, I'll get to that. Yeah, that's really funny.
- 7:18But yeah, something like Barry Um whereas you know on channel nine,
- 7:24Channel ten, Channel seven here in Australia or ABC, NBC, CBS and
- 7:28the States whatever, you know, there are show the Blacklist is just wrapping
- 7:31up after ten years. Yeah, you know that their brand dead TV people.
- 7:38Man, that's actual an interesting article where it's like people are still watching
- 7:43these shows, Like lots of people still watching these shows. No one's watching
- 7:46Barry, no one's watching Succession. Despite the fact how much the media telling
- 7:49how great these shows are, people aren't watching them. Well yeah, I
- 7:54mean, something I've always said is you can't make good criticism without good art.
- 7:58So, you know, people who want to write about TV. I'll
- 8:00tend to want to write about something that's got a little bit of meat on
- 8:01the bone and something that you know, has a storyline that's ongoing, characters
- 8:05that kind of developed, whereas opposed to something like mcguiver, which is very
- 8:09much how's mcgever going to get out of it this week? And I ain't
- 8:13got out of it this week, so there's not much you can say about
- 8:16it, so it doesn't get as much a publicity. But yeah, I'll
- 8:20guarantee that, yeah, ten to twenty times more people, probably two hundred
- 8:24times more people are watching an episode of Say well, this leads into what
- 8:28you were saying about Barry. I linked on my Facebook recently this terrific article
- 8:33in New York magazine about the current state of TV with streaming, with press,
- 8:37DHTV, with PayTV, cable, all that kind of stuff, and
- 8:39now it's basically a real shit show at the moment. And this agent said,
- 8:43people watch Two and a half Men, or they watch Young Sheldon.
- 8:46None of the writers I represent to want to write for those shows. They
- 8:50want to write for Barry. Nobody's watching Barry. Everybody's watching Young Sheldon.
- 8:54We get paid if we get paid, right, right that stuff. Yeah,
- 8:58yeah, And I mean also with those shows, I mean they have
- 9:01the real to the best of my understanding, I mean, I think Al
- 9:03Powell, Matt Selman might I've talked about this, and also Bill locally talked
- 9:07about this. They've got the writer's room kind of set up where you can
- 9:13learn how to well you learn how to be a better writer for interacting without
- 9:16the writers. But you want to get a chance to move up the ladder
- 9:18as well. You become a show runner, become a producer, all that
- 9:20kind of stuff. But I don't know, it's an interesting interesting times.
- 9:26How do we get it to be talking about this again? M Yeah,
- 9:33But I think I think the thing between say mcgeiver and Stargate with Richard dan
- 9:37Anderson, I think the star, the star of Stargate was the Stargate or
- 9:41was the the setup, Whereas with mcguiver it was kind of like he's mcgeiver
- 9:48and he's played by Richard dan Anderson, Whereas it's Richard dan Anderson in Stargates,
- 9:52if you know what I mean. The guy like Richard Daz and Jack
- 9:56in Jack O'Neill was his name is Stargate. He was the star, he
- 10:00was the Captain Kirk of Stargate. Okay, well that, yeah, I
- 10:03imagine he was a pretty big get. For example, the Stargate in Stargate
- 10:05was the Enterprise in Star Trek. Okay, because I mean, there were
- 10:09so many Stargate shows, weren't there. I mean there was SG one,
- 10:13this one, that one, there was Star Greak Universe, wasn't there.
- 10:18Maybe I lost touch after SG one phinih and I started Atlantic As I think
- 10:24maybe I'm not sure, but SG one was like a sci fi show that
- 10:26even like little eight year old down I could understand and appreciate, enjoy.
- 10:30But I think you know, if the show is named something named a character
- 10:35and you're playing that character, then you know, if you're a fan of
- 10:39that show, you're going to be like, it's like, wow, you
- 10:41actually met the Stargate. No, no, you met you met Richard the
- 10:45Nants. But yeah, I mean, but going on, going back to
- 10:50what we were saying, I really liked him in this. I thought it
- 10:52was great fun. Yeah, I mean one of those guys that I really
- 10:54have a lot of. I mean, I could probably pick him out of
- 10:58a lineup. But at the same time, we're like, who are you
- 11:01in to my generation, he's Jack O'Neill, and to your generation, here's
- 11:05mcgiver as well as as Jack O'Neill. But we were too young for mcguiver.
- 11:11It was done. It was finished. Anyways, I knew what mcguiver,
- 11:13even heard of mcguiver was because of the Simpsons. I've never I've never
- 11:16seen an episode of it, only not because of the Simpsons. And I
- 11:18know I know the concept because he gets out of situations. I've heard about
- 11:22that mcguiver something. But Stargate SG one that was the thing for me,
- 11:26and I think that's what when he goes to a con now, I think
- 11:28that's what most people still absolutely it's the guy from Stargate. He's awesome a
- 11:33guy when they play into that here, Yes, people have come around with
- 11:37mcguiver now, I think like, oh yeah, mcguy, but that's awesome.
- 11:39I feel like now it's sort of people are just a seed as a
- 11:43cool concept as opposed to of that show from the eighties. Yeah, well,
- 11:46I think there's original mcguiver. There's the remake of mcguither, but there's
- 11:50also the Saturday Out Live spin off Gruber Yes, which became like the movie
- 11:56of that is a real cult classic. I mean, okay, oh yeah,
- 12:01I mean, and I'm trying to remember that some really high end director
- 12:05likes it a lot of thing. It might be Christopher Nolan thinks it's like
- 12:09like because I mean, you've got all these really prestigious film directors and every
- 12:13once in a while and I'll say, oh, I really like that movie.
- 12:15Like Terrence Malick is one of the great American filmmakers. He's like,
- 12:20he's made like maybe ten movies in a career that spans about fifty years.
- 12:22But everyone's like, oh my god, this guy's an absolutely Gene's in.
- 12:24One of his favorite movies is Zoolander. Yeah. Yeah, So it's like
- 12:30but yeah, Christopher Noel apparently likes mcgruber and a whole lot of other people
- 12:33do. And there was this spin off TV series as well. Because it
- 12:35became it sort of flopped in cinemas, but it gained this whole second life.
- 12:39So yeah, I think that's the reason mcguiver is still partially in the
- 12:43public consciousness. Of course, with just patting and Sell mccarring continue to carry
- 12:46the porch. It's kind of like it in the nineties, when you know,
- 12:50before geeked m was a thing, and now everyone likes Marvel and things
- 12:54like that. But now in the nineties when some really cool celebrity be like,
- 12:56oh yeah, I like Star Wars and everyone's like, ah, he
- 12:58likes Star Wars too, just like one of us. One of us.
- 13:03Well that's funny. I mean, because Dane I are hard workers. It's
- 13:07a public holiday austraight, but we're still recording folks birthday on a day that
- 13:13is not the King's birthday in what the hell come on, Charles? But
- 13:18anyway, happy quote unquote birthday too. You know, um, we're initially
- 13:22going to record um an episode of Tales of Future Uma Anthology episode the next
- 13:28episode, yeah, anthology interest one with a very geeky um supporting cast,
- 13:33including you know, the creator of Dungeons and Dragons. I think when that
- 13:37episode came out, like, well you're really out dragon out some ner classics,
- 13:41aren't you, Whereas nowadays be like, oh my got that guy,
- 13:45they got the guy, they got the High Master like carry guy gags and
- 13:50everyone tells me the Dungeons and Dragons. The movie is apparently awesome. I
- 13:54really enjoyed it. Yeah, it's find of like eighties family adventure fun is
- 14:00what someone described a bit like that. It's got his tongue slightly in his
- 14:03cheek, but not so much. It's like, hey, guys, we're
- 14:05sort of doing your Dungeons and Dragons movie. It's like, no, you're
- 14:07just having a good time. Yeah, but no, it's really funny.
- 14:11It's got a good sense of humor, got a great cast, you know,
- 14:15Chris Pines a leap from the good Chris. It's got the good Chris,
- 14:18everybody's favorite Chris. It's got Hugh Grant is just really really funny.
- 14:22Hugh grantson there is the villain, but he's stilling a fantastic That's solved me
- 14:26already because Hugh Grant is having some sort of renaissance at the moment, don't
- 14:30you reckon? He honestly is. Yeah. Yeah, between this and the
- 14:33he was in a couple of guy Ritchie movies and he's really good in life.
- 14:37What the one? It was like a it was like a mob movie.
- 14:39It's kind of snatches kind of vibe. It was about three years ago,
- 14:43I reckon, Yeah, one called The Gentleman. That's the one.
- 14:46That's the one, yeah, with Colin Farrell's in it, and yes,
- 14:50Matthew McConaughey. Yeah, and Hugh Grants in it, and because normally he's
- 14:54like, oh, well you know I think I well, I'm sorry,
- 14:56but I think I might be in love with you, that kind of thing,
- 14:58and he's that's what people remembering for him. Now he's just really steering
- 15:03into playing like really sleazy Zon at times it just doesn't give a work anymore
- 15:07either, like the way he just takes people out in the Red carpet,
- 15:09just snipes them. Oh my god, that was hilarious at the Oscars.
- 15:13Yeah, everyone and everyone was like hating on him for it, and I
- 15:16was like, not stupid question. This woman doesn't no shit. He's just
- 15:22like he's just basically just watching Carried It a few years ago. He's just
- 15:24making a mock y of always like this is a solid joke. What are
- 15:26we doing here? So yeah, Dungeon Dragons by me and check it out.
- 15:31I believe it's um available to rent or buy on your very streaming services.
- 15:37So yeah, give it a well, yes, let's do that.
- 15:39But but yeah, overall, so you enjoyed the episode, I'm not gonna
- 15:43lie I enjoy this one. I thought it was fine. Yeah, look,
- 15:45I mean I'm not. I don't know, if you're a huge fan
- 15:48of the Simpsons go to episodes. I mean, I thought this one was
- 15:52taken very possible. A lot of them are very sort of I didn't think
- 15:58this one is really did into that direction, but a lot of them.
- 16:00Two can also feel kind of dated if they have a bunch of celebrity cameos,
- 16:03but this one didn't have celebrity cameos. It was more than culture side
- 16:07of things, Like for example, when they went to England, all the
- 16:10references were very timely of the time. You know, you had the primary
- 16:12pop and cool Britannia when yeah, where this one just felt like still in
- 16:17twenty twenty three, what a lot of the world perceives India to be,
- 16:19like to be sad and racist, but that's just that's not a lot the
- 16:23stereo style jokes. Yeah, yeah, I don't think it was racist so
- 16:26much as just like when we're trotting out the stereotype, which I guess is
- 16:30racist. I mean, I think the maybe the most dated thing is that,
- 16:37you know, clearly a tank doing the boys, but now he's transferring
- 16:41it to what was Carvy Carvey. Yeah, yeah, but then he's doing
- 16:48a variety of others. Favorite one of my favorite moments. I thought it
- 16:51was very funny. Queen Queen Mamma jump actually wasn't too bad, but it's
- 16:56like, oh, well, you're going to go for it, you might
- 16:57as well in for a penny, in for a pound hand. I love
- 17:00it when you answered the phone like, how are you doing, sir?
- 17:03My name is Steve. I'm like, your name's like Steve. You've never
- 17:07bet of Steve in your life. It also felt like, I mean,
- 17:14particularly with the closing sort of Bollywood dance number and all, that felt like
- 17:17it was more that felt paid tribute and paying a much. I felt a
- 17:19mid pandering, but I also felt like just felt it came out of nowhere.
- 17:23It's like I didn't even sort of lead up to that kind of moment,
- 17:26just sort of like, and here's the Bollywood game, because you know
- 17:29Bollywood. And I was like, I get it, but it just didn't
- 17:30really do much for me. I'm just a sucker for those kind of dance
- 17:34numbers. I haven't really watched a whole lot of Bollywood in them, but
- 17:37the stuff that I have is really energetic and everything in a really great way.
- 17:42It feels like oh, we're throwing everything in here, but it all
- 17:47kind of worked together nicely. What I think they knew the remake of the
- 17:51Light the live action Aladdin did very well. I thought they captured the vibe
- 17:55of Bollywood in the Aladdin story so well. Just that was so bright.
- 17:59I thought, dare I say it? There will never be another Genie Robin
- 18:03Williams as Jenny. But I thought the song numbers in the live action a
- 18:06Aladdin, just the music and itself, not so much the acting because Robin
- 18:10Williams as Jenny singing the song fan like me so much better than will But
- 18:14the music was just had so much more omph to it. It felt so
- 18:17much more Bollywood esque. I thought they did a great job with with the
- 18:19live action Aladdin. They did end in more unified theory of Simpsons and four
- 18:25Finger discount Who directed that a Ladin remake? Guy Ritchie, Really I did
- 18:29not know that you Yeah, I mean it seemed like a really unexpected choice.
- 18:33But like I suppose, he's done his fair share of stuff about you
- 18:36know, Larrikins on the streets and transferred to wherever Aladdin took place. They
- 18:41once called them street rats, but now you know as I say that anymore.
- 18:47At the start of the old Aladdin, it's like this movie does not
- 18:51represent us message. Disney put the message up saying some of the themes in
- 18:56this movie, no, really aren't legit. Don't worry about it, guys,
- 19:00we don't believe in it either, but just you know, we didn't
- 19:02want to touch And I appreciate that at least they haven't tampered with the original.
- 19:06They put the notice up that's fine, but don't tamper with the movie
- 19:10itself. It's funny because I don't know if they're doing it here in Australia,
- 19:14but certainly in the US Hulu, which is the Disney Plus kind of
- 19:18spinoff or the more adult one they show. They have the rights to the
- 19:23classic seventies crime movie The French Connection. Okay, and in that Gene Hackton
- 19:30plays his cop who was just like a very good cop but a very very
- 19:33bad person and one of his traitors. He's a bit of a racist,
- 19:37but there's one stage where he drops a vile racial slur that we will not
- 19:42say on this on this podcast. They've edited that out, and they apparently
- 19:48did it with that sort of notification of like they didn't notify the director or
- 19:52anything like that. They just sort of cut it out, which is understandable
- 19:55in these enlightened times. At the same time, but it's the whole point
- 19:56of him saying it meant to emphasize how much of a dirt back is he
- 20:00is. I mean, this is a guy who's like a really dedicated copy
- 20:03wants to take down drug rings. He'll do whatever it takes to get the
- 20:04job done. But at the same time he is dropping in words left and
- 20:07right and all this kind of business. Someone pointed out it's okay, so
- 20:12they kind of it, kind of saying saying a racial slur, But he
- 20:15also was kicking the shit out of everybody without due process or anything like that.
- 20:21So they're keeping in all the police brutality, but they've knocked out the
- 20:23naughty word. Um, I don't know. Look, I love, I
- 20:27love I would love it if they actually add it to the point where you
- 20:30actually start firtypathy for the guy. So he did nothing wrong, we're talking
- 20:33about it. A great guy, a good cup stand up for this.
- 20:37I mean, I don't I don't mind places like Disney or any place sort
- 20:42of having a thing up the front saying this was made a while back.
- 20:47Some of these things, you know, they don't really fly these days.
- 20:48You know, that's fine. I don't know. We're resenting it in its
- 20:52original form, just so you know it's got this in it. Yeah,
- 20:56just be aware. This isn't how it should be. This is not our
- 21:00views anymore, you know. Yeah, so when your kid comes home and
- 21:02say, I called here street rats, you shouldn't do that. Well,
- 21:06it's like they put out the start of the Junger Book, right, and
- 21:08Nicholas like, what is in the Junger Book that could possibly, you know,
- 21:14be seen as like racist or anything like that. And I'm like,
- 21:15yeah, King Louis guys kind into jazz and he's a monkey. Yeah that
- 21:21might be it. She's like, oh, they wouldn't have meant that though,
- 21:29And I was like, oh no, it's a pretty deliberate decision to
- 21:30make that guy the monkey. But you know that we love the Jungle Book,
- 21:37we love King Louis, we love our man Gym commings. Certainly do
- 21:44love a man Jim coming. Yes. But yeah, but getting back to
- 21:45the also, the the rd A plot, I just thought it was a
- 21:51very fun spin on the obsessed fan angle. Well, usually it's the fans
- 21:55stalking the celebrity, but at this point where the fans make the celebrity real
- 22:00lies. Oh wait, I do appreci I do appreciate my previous role to
- 22:03the point where he sort of wants to just outlive it, like live every
- 22:06every single day, to the point where he sort of becomes an obsessed not
- 22:08a fan of himself. Almost doesn't he very much? So yeah, I
- 22:14mean he's using Patty and Selm where it is kind of like the mirror for
- 22:17him to just to get a bit of reflected glory. Absolutely, Hey,
- 22:22my favorite. What were your favorite moments from the episode? Though everyone knows
- 22:26I'm a big fan of a collar tug, so it was nice, and
- 22:30also a big fan of monkeys, so you combine those two. In the
- 22:34final fight between the elephant and the monkey, where the monkey goes, hey,
- 22:38nice elephant, you wouldn't hurt a monkey. I wish I was home,
- 22:41and I was like, I wish this monkey had glasses. For some
- 22:44reason, you wouldn't hit a monkey in glasses, would you look a bit
- 22:49of an insensitive gag, But is also the gag on home where he's like,
- 22:52I'm sorry him lead I was doing Karnac with my bodyguard. Now,
- 22:56of course me and the sentence where I was a probably the only one you
- 23:00get carn necked these days. But it was a rip. It was the
- 23:03Johnny Carson. What does he do? It's when Bart's watching it. Yeah,
- 23:07and he puts the puts the envelope to his head and yeah, it's
- 23:11like Jeopardess Chief we can bub quartet. Yeah, it's like, what's it
- 23:19like? What is hindu? Oh it's the it's the moisture on your hin.
- 23:26It so not unfunny, but yeah, RDA with the I liked everything.
- 23:30But when he's got the real captive crowd of the star Gate convention exactly
- 23:36a star Gate to a great convention. What he definitely used that line before
- 23:45in reality. Oh it's such a hello Cleveland. What does he say?
- 23:51He's aware, he's aware of where we exist, man, So yeah,
- 23:57I like that a lot. What did you enjoy out of this? I
- 24:00enjoyed, Yeah, that exact moment of Richard Dean Anderson. I liked that.
- 24:03I'm just gonna look for a man with medium heart, dark complexion,
- 24:06brown eyes, and black hair, as well as on the second go fine,
- 24:11yeah, as well as as we already discussed earlier as well. The
- 24:15phone, the phone with the various phones in the various accents. I'm like,
- 24:18it's just you can actually imagine it's still happening now, don't did that?
- 24:22Man Gin? Yeah, it's about you. Next question you there eating

- 26:04few here. Um, well, I've got two trail they didn't write three,
- 26:08so you give me four. Oh? How much was the house that
- 26:15Lenny board? Worth? Three million dollars? Which made me roll my eyes
- 26:18and I'm like, didn't he? I don't know. I'm just like,
- 26:21was gonna flat flat? Yeah? I don't know, silly, But anyway,
- 26:29a dollar house with what your first question for me? Where was the
- 26:36mcguy of convention? It was in closet? Q wasn't But what place?
- 26:40What was it? What was it called? What was the hall? God
- 26:42damn sons of sicily hall? I was? I was a quarter? Right?
- 26:47Yes? Um? The thermostat on the Simpsons house wall was set at
- 26:52what temperature? Seventy something? Wasn't it sent three? Damn seventy two?
- 27:00Nearly to My next question is when Burns and the family arrive on the boat,
- 27:04they say it's going to be taken over by these people whilst we're away,
- 27:08and the song and dance comes onto the boat. What is it?
- 27:11What kind of cruise? There are a Dixie riverboat cruise dixieland booze cruise,
- 27:17yeah, Dixieland booze cruise. Yes, I've never been on a booze cruise.
- 27:21Have you ever been on like a party boat? I've never been on
- 27:22a party boat. I have, I have. I've been in a party
- 27:25boat on the arrow. It was quite good fun. Okay, yeah,
- 27:27I mean, but you're also better have a good turn because the one's going
- 27:30to jump overboard. What is the number of the flight that Homer takes to
- 27:34India? She written, it's a forty seven. It's fifty seven. Damn
- 27:37it. I don't know the rest of it. I was gonna was gonna
- 27:40be one of my trivia questions, but I didn't write it down. What
- 27:41was it? There's just flight five fifty seven? Is at all it is?
- 27:45It's India Air flight fift India Air flight. Okay, and what's your
- 27:48idea? One more for me before we get into our review. Where is
- 27:52the Marriott located? No one in the phone calls that to the carving makes
- 27:56no idea. It is the what what Marriott? I don't no idea.
- 28:00What is it? Is? The Dallas fort Worth Marrier, Dallas fort Worth
- 28:03Maria. Alright, well, that is trivia let's get into our review of

- 28:47Slash four figure discount link is in the description of this podcast. The original
- 28:52airdate of Kisskiss Bang Bangalore was April ninth, two thousand and six. The
- 28:56top three films is the Davis at the US Box Office to week episode d
- 29:00were Talladagan Knights, The Ballad of Rick Bobby Ricky, Bobby Barnyard, The
- 29:04CGI film Was It This classic animation that was cause in CGI? Was it
- 29:08Barnyard. It was just classic. I don't think I've ever seen Barnyard,
- 29:12but I think it might be cgi. I'm confusing it with Home on the
- 29:15Range. Just look that up. Actually Barnyard, Barnyard film? Who's in
- 29:19Barnyard? Because it doesn't sound Barnyard. That sounds like one of those ones
- 29:22that was not made by one of the big animation companies bought of animation stuff
- 29:29where and we've got access to someone who used to be on Saturday Night Live
- 29:32Paramount Pictures. And it stars Kevin Generals, Kevin James Costas, Oh my
- 29:37God, Courtney Cox, Sam Elliott, Danny Glover, Wonder Sykes, Andy
- 29:41McDowell, and David kirk Kirkner ken So someone a well known Australian actor once
- 29:51compared me to David Keckner. Look at he's Champ kind from Manka man Oh.
- 29:56I don't know is that a good or a bad thing? I wasn't
- 30:00happy with it. I'm like, I don't really see it, but like,
- 30:02if God wants to be this way, I'll say yes. I'm like,
- 30:06I don't. I don't. I don't got not as much, not
- 30:10much hair. Both sort of relatively heavy set people with bald heads. Yeah,
- 30:14that's that's it. Yeah anyway, and you're far funnier than that guy.
- 30:18Jesus thanks. But yeah. So that was made by Paramount Pictures,
- 30:25that film, and it did well the box office budget to fifty one box
- 30:27office of one hundred and eighteen million. Man, it's money back and then
- 30:32something it's short. And the third film was Pirates of the Caribbean. Dead
- 30:36Man's Chest was that the second one? Would it was the second one because
- 30:40the second one was two days four I think, wasn't it. Yeah,
- 30:42because it's Curse of the Black Pearl dead Man's Chest at World's End and then
- 30:49people stopped carrying and then people stopped. I was thinking about this the other
- 30:52day because there was like a fifth one. Yeah, there really was five
- 30:56of them. I can't believe that. Yeah, there was five of them,
- 30:57and I'm like, I mean I've seen the fifth one once. I
- 31:02think I've mentioned this on the show in the past, but I mean Parts
- 31:03of the Caribbeans is a franchise I wish I liked more because I got I
- 31:07got a double whammy of like a flu shot and a COVID booster. The
- 31:11other day, I was like, now I just want to lie down and
- 31:15let the let the bacteria do its work. I just want to. Like
- 31:21some times on this I wish I had like a saga that I could enjoy,
- 31:26but I don't think it too heavily invested in Lord of the Rings feels
- 31:29like a real conduct. I don't have twelve hours of a Lord of the
- 31:30Rings. Yeah, but every time, and I'll put on parts of the
- 31:34care I don't like it as much as I want to. Many times you
- 31:40watch those ones, I'm sure a lot. Yeah, that's right, but
- 31:41you gotta stop it three because otherwise, I mean, wait, there's more.
- 31:45I know, I know, I'm kind of I don't know about Dial
- 31:48of Destiny. I'm kind of looking forward to it. But at the same
- 31:49time, so I think everyone's excited for it, and there'll be a bunch
- 31:53of criticism about it, and then ten years ago buy and we'll go that
- 31:56wasn't as bad as we thought it was. That's just that's that's gonna be.
- 32:00That's gonna be how this film goes down. The problem is four is
- 32:02so shit that it would be hard to sort of watch them. You don't
- 32:05you don't want to buy the box set of all them. You want to
- 32:07spend money on that. Yeah, it's like going to be buying the trilogy
- 32:13and then the extra one. But yeah, I'm excited for it as well.
- 32:15Yeah, but anyway, Yeah, dead Man Chest is the second one
- 32:20in the original trilogy, and I think maybe the best. I kind of
- 32:22like it when Johnny Depp was still flying high and what a fourth from Grace
- 32:27Johnny Depp's He's become the new RDJ, right, Oh well yeah r DJ
- 32:32before iron Man. Yeah, I mean he's yeah, yeah, it's a
- 32:35real shame and all. Well, I mean if he's if he's a dirt
- 32:38bag, then it's not that much of a shame. But I don't know,
- 32:40just a toxic situation around from what I can gather, But yeah,
- 32:45it's a real like a picture of Dorian Gray kind of thing because he was
- 32:49so beautiful for so long and then all of a sudden, just like his
- 32:52face just fell. This episode was actually written by Dan Caslaneta and his wife
- 32:58Debby, so now they co wrote that. Really shit, Um what episode
- 33:04was? It was the Forest Gump take off? Was it called what was
- 33:07it called? Oh Gump Roast? That's right, that was a bad episode.
- 33:12That was no good episode. Stick to the acting. Yes, this
- 33:16one wasn't This one was much better. But it says here that Richard did
- 33:20and Anderson voiced the animation animated version of himself as a return of the favor,
- 33:24so to speak, because Dan guest starred on Stargate SG one the previous
- 33:30year. Um and Anderson's character on Stargate Jack O'Neill, is known to be
- 33:34a big fan of the Simpsons and often makes references to the Simpsons on STARGAHD
- 33:37one. How about that? Yes, apparently their buddies the sort of returned
- 33:43the favor. But anyway, nice and yes, it was directed by Mark
- 33:45Kirkland. So the episode kicks off also the cash gag as well here and
- 33:50also there was the couch gag with one with Homers you think it's home or
- 33:52anyway dealing the cards out the family because he says wooho at the end.
- 33:55How because they did that not long ago, didn't they. Yeah, feel
- 34:00like they've re used the cash gags a lot lately. Yeah, definitely.
- 34:02The episode kicks off with the family watching TV. I believe the birds are
- 34:07showing a movie at work, that's right, And then he's sitting at the
- 34:09back because he doesn't want to get sore eyes. And I'm like, there
- 34:13was a chance to make an eye gag there and they didn't do it.
- 34:15Oh that's right, Yeah, he shouldn't get something in his eyes. Yeah.
- 34:19I'm like, well, clearly that's what you got. U. No,
- 34:21you're making nuclear waste gag. I'm like, that's it. Sounds like
- 34:22you were setting yourself up for the easy, obvious gag, which would have
- 34:27made far more sense. But you know he's sitting there nuclear waste than Burns
- 34:30wants to pay tribute to people have lost their lives, and we just wants
- 34:32to see the movie, and we get a pro outsourcing video which I thought
- 34:36was very funny, actually was pretty good. I'm tired now I got more.
- 34:40Don't to play the lottery? Good ching. Yeah, as someone,
- 34:45as I said, who lost their job when I worked at Forward Right and
- 34:46they outsourced all of their work over to China. You know, everyone's to
- 34:52constantly complain that Dando please get her called ja. They are people still complain
- 34:59all the time, you know time and I'm not doing the shit anymore.
- 35:02And the second they take their jobs away, you can't take our job,
- 35:06GiB Yeah, you win all day. You take shortcuts all day. You
- 35:12do nothing all day. You literally you're supposed to be working. You're playing
- 35:15candy Crush like you don't do anything. What do you hate more work or
- 35:21poverty? Yea working out. But you haven't watched the episode of South Park
- 35:28recently. You have the where the dick dickon Bouse was a called where south
- 35:31Cartman makes his own um restaurant, where he's saying, and it's guy saying,
- 35:37you take the myobs. So basically they bring the guy back because basically
- 35:40Cartman's trying to hire people and because of the pandemic, they want mental health
- 35:45days and all these other days. And they're like, oh, we can't
- 35:47offer you all that stuff. You mean you take them my job. It's
- 35:51fucking so funny. It's so good, just like post pandemic work mentality.
- 35:55But we on going down the South Park. We've got the originally took our
- 36:00Jibs episode coming up? Is it? Yeah? I think it might be.
- 36:08I'm sorry, I just love this is our Simpsons episode of course,
- 36:12where this is full thing. It is getting We always somehow get back to
- 36:15south Park. But I feel like South Park's taken over. It's kind of
- 36:17leaching it and bleeding it. It's just so fun to watch South Park.
- 36:21It's so good. Oh yeah, but how all those phrases have just sort
- 36:24of end of the vernaculum and we're like America, We're about We're about this
- 36:30is America is like the best. But I I didn't realize we're about to
- 36:36review today after we finished this one, the Succubus Succubus right episode of South
- 36:39Park. That's where dirp right, so the dep right, but derp started
- 36:45in basketball. I didn't know that they created the word dirph for I knew
- 36:50they created it, but I didn't realize I was in basketball. So whenever
- 36:52there was something stupid, they go doop dop and they created the word dirp.
- 37:00I love it. We had to review basketball as well, by the
- 37:05way, we have to Oh, oh no, we're going to do this
- 37:07is the four Finger Discount Network. Guarantee you folks, we're going to do
- 37:10all the Parker and Stone movies. We're gonna do Team America, but also
- 37:16the early stuf. We're gonna do Cannibal the Musical or Gasmo. That'll be
- 37:21a fun episode. And while it's not a Parker and Stone movie, they
- 37:25only start on it, but we're going to do basketball as well. Did
- 37:29they not write Basic Ball? I thought they wrote it. No. No,
- 37:30it's directed by the guy who did like Flying High and No Ship,
- 37:34so they didn't. They didn't write it at all. I look, I
- 37:37imagine they threw a lot of their own stuff into it. I always thought
- 37:40it was their movie. I had no idea. It was definitely sold as
- 37:45a Parker and Stone movie. Sorry, I'm just looking up Basketball nineteen ninety
- 37:49eight movie. Yeah, written by David Zucker a screenwriter with a great name
- 37:53of Robert Locashum, Jeff Wright, and Lewis Freedman. Would have to have
- 38:00some say in the writer because it just feels it feels too Tray and Matt
- 38:02for all. You know what I mean? Yeah, all them, Yeah,
- 38:07all the cartmanesque stuff, that's it. I remember seeing him do the
- 38:09Cartman voice, like when the moving when he does it's like yeah gas,
- 38:13and I was like, it's like as a kid seeing him do that,
- 38:15it was like so cool, Oh god, Yeah, it's like him,
- 38:20he's the guy. He does the voice and he's doing motions to make him
- 38:24look like a person. As we talk about on on our Gym, Cummings
- 38:29podcast. It's just a magic to voice acting, isn't that where now you
- 38:34just as if it feels like it's the big companies that the studios focus on
- 38:39which name we can put on the poster as the poster, which is the
- 38:42best voice. Absolutely, the magic of voice acting is slowly just disappearing,
- 38:47isn't It's like voice actors are being pushed aside for just actors, just just
- 38:52a voice as opposed to voice actors. And I think we got to,
- 38:55you know, sort of throw a bit of the blame Disney's way to some
- 38:59degree. And in yeah, they started with I guess Lion King, I
- 39:02reckon Aladdin even but who was the who was the idea of Robin Williams?
- 39:07Yeah? Yeah, And then you know with Toy Story, I mean it's
- 39:09sold as well as it's got Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. Now everybody lums
- 39:14Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. Well, everyone loves Tom Hanks. But Lion
- 39:17King was the year before Toy Story, that's true. But I mean when
- 39:22he was Aladdin, that was like ninety two ninety two. Yeah, But
- 39:25who else was in Aladdin besides Robert Williams, Well, really just Robin Williams
- 39:29but it was. It was very much sold as starring Robin Williams as the
- 39:31gene Gene Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean there's not there aren't really.
- 39:35I suppose there are big names in The Lion King, but they're more
- 39:37sort of like I mean, Jeremy Irons, wasn't you want to ask about
- 39:42that stage, I guess so, yeah, James el Jones, James gold
- 39:45Whoopie Goldberg. Oh yeah, she's one of the Lionas. Jonathan Taylor Thomas
- 39:51was the top of the world at that point. He was simber. That's
- 39:52oh j Matthew, Betty Rodrick Yeah yeah, um and who was now the
- 39:59Nile was played older alum anyway was played by She was in the first season
- 40:02of The West Wing. Oh was it more Tianney. She's got a very
- 40:06unique voice like the entire main cast. But or Roland Atkinson exactly, Ronandkinson.
- 40:10I was going to get too. That's a boy, ra Kelly.
- 40:14My apology Kelly to Nathan Lyon. Nathan Lyon was to moan Nathan Lane.
- 40:17Yeah, Nathan Lanes, Nathan Lane. Yeah, Well for coming to America
- 40:21fans. Yes, it was James el Jones, a mathas and Med Sinclair
- 40:24as Sarabi who was also his wife and coming to American and the voice of
- 40:30Pumba was the fat Nacker guy in the Seine Fowl Subway episode. Yes,
- 40:35exactly, so you know he said, it's got a couple of names the
- 40:38entire cast. Fine, fine, hey Dandy, you know we're not talking
- 40:43about too much. The Simpsons. Kiskis bang and Bengal. We rejourn to
- 40:50Kiss Bean Bangalore already in progress. Yes, basically, this whole thing here
- 40:53is about the fact that Birds is going to be outsourcing the work to India,
- 41:00and I've got here. This feels like it could have been a really
- 41:04solid story for potentially the Simpsons movie. I don't think there was enough focus
- 41:08on the impact that all these jobs being outsourced was having on Springfield as a
- 41:13whole, because so many people are employed in Springfield and the power plant.
- 41:15We're gonna get that one scene in most which I really enjoyed the fact that's
- 41:20sort of taking the piss out of their own TV Japanese American that's the American
- 41:25doesn't work. It doesn't work. Yeah, But I just think and I
- 41:29like that, But I don't think they cut back to Springfield enough showing the
- 41:31effect it was having on Springfield. You're right, I mean, like I
- 41:36said, this episode felt very fifty fifty in a lot of ways in terms
- 41:39of like how much time was delegated to each storyline. I don't know,
- 41:44maybe a storyline We've got no jobs could be a little depressing, I believe.
- 41:49I think if you did more of an episode about it than you could,
- 41:52you'd have to put a bit more work in or like, well,
- 41:54what are we going to do now that the plant's closed? And take out
- 41:59the Richard deane An some plot and put that in a different episode, because
- 42:00they didn't intertwine them at all. That was literally just an eight plot that
- 42:05did not connect in any way. So take out that b plot and put
- 42:08it in more focus on the impact that out Because outsourcing jobs is a huge
- 42:13and very important story, right like that, that's a topic that is very
- 42:16very controversial. You need to show the pros and cons of it, you
- 42:21know what I mean. So now I like the way they wrapped it up
- 42:22with Homer sort of telling all the people over there that you know that you
- 42:27know that Smoco breaks and things like that. The thoughts a very funny spin,
- 42:30you know, bringing bringing that great sense of American entire the rest of
- 42:34the world now that's exporting it was very, very good. Um, But
- 42:37I just think the whole outsourcing taking away their jobs needed to have more focus
- 42:42on the impact that was having locally. You're right, yeah, I mean,
- 42:45yeah, there's a lot, there's a lot of fruit that you could
- 42:50pick from this particular storyline, because what would be call would be This is
- 42:53what I'm saying is someone from experience that whilst it was terrible that we all
- 42:58lost our jobs, what it did was light the fire under all these people,
- 43:01all these men right who were in their forties fifties, who all assumed
- 43:06this is what they're going to be doing for the rest of their lives.
- 43:07It put them in a situation where they had no control of it, where
- 43:10they had to go out and do something about it. They had to go
- 43:14back to school, that their own businesses, that they had to find a
- 43:17new way to make a living. Had they not outsourced our jobs, that'd
- 43:22still be sitting at the end of that conveyor belt in a factory, miserable
- 43:25of their lives, unhappy, right, complaining about their jobs, and just
- 43:30just living on repeat, rinse and repeat day in day out right, a
- 43:34lot of them went out and I can't remember. I can't don't think I've
- 43:37ever actually spoken to someone since Ford's closed that is less happy than what they
- 43:40were than when they were at Fort. At the time, they were all
- 43:43scared. I think the world was scared. Everyone wasn't like angry. They
- 43:45were just scared of what was to come. But they all were put in
- 43:49a situation to force themselves to be better people, and they all did it.
- 43:52So I think that would have been cool to see in Springfield, Lenny
- 43:57Carl all these people that work at the power plant had to go out and
- 44:00make new jobs and make a new living, and that would have been a
- 44:02cool concept. Actually, yeah, it could have been a fun episode with
- 44:06everyone sort of yeah, trying some projects with different with varying levels of success
- 44:10and putting varying levels of effort as well. And then and then you could
- 44:14end it with, for example, you know, the jobs come back.
- 44:17I'm bringing the plant back. Initially they go, no, I don't want
- 44:21that, and all of a sudden it was like, oh, but I
- 44:22did like getting paid to do nothing. And then the Americans throw in all
- 44:29these good work they've done because I just want to sit around getting paid to
- 44:30hea donuts all day. That's how you end of the episode. Well played
- 44:34down a very good, very good alternate episode that you've created there and should
- 44:37have just wing that on the spot. But anyway, that's not what we
- 44:42got. What we did get was Homer catching the bouquet. So he's the
- 44:45one American who gets sent to run the plant apparently because it's always Homer.
- 44:51And Homer's telling the family at dinner and they've painted on the phone and the
- 44:53thumb stat on the wall and whatever and random acted night gag. Basically,
- 44:58he's going to be moving to India, packing up shop and going over there.
- 45:00You think the family would be going with him. But anyway you think,
- 45:04but they do do a bit of ask covering with him thinking, oh,
- 45:08I'm not going to Indiana. Yeah, he can think that, Oh,
- 45:12okay, I go work for the work and I come home for the
- 45:14weekend. But the family would still know, right, the family are well
- 45:15aware for India is the family will be going a week going with your dad
- 45:17or you're just gone forever. Anyway, don't don't think, don't ask questions.
- 45:23Richard Dean Anderson arrives at the convention, but it's only because he's looking
- 45:27for a way to get out of there to the Stargate SG one con which
- 45:30is across the road at the coliseum or whatever. And SG one that would
- 45:34have been going for what seven nine years was still won't have been a TV
- 45:38in two thousand and six. Let's have a look. That's a good question,
- 45:42I mean, because the movie was nineteen ninety four. Yea started at
- 45:45ninety seven. When did it go to ninety seven through to two thousand and
- 45:51two thousand and seven? So yeah, so it was on a sort of
- 45:52last last season or two. How many TV shows were there? How many
- 45:55were there? Let's go to the Stargate franchise. Shall we start franchise?
- 46:00So we've got SG one in Atlantis in two thousand and four, then Universe
- 46:02in two thousand and nine, and then a prequel web series called Origins in
- 46:07twenty eighteen. There's Infinity as well. It's an animated one, is there
- 46:12really I don't know, two thousand and two animated series Stargate Infinity. Okay,
- 46:15there you go. Yeah, So there's I mean, and a couple
- 46:19of and a couple of movies as well, a couple of director video movies.
- 46:22If you want to make money in the sci fi world, start your
- 46:24franchise with the word star and you'll be fine. Dot dot dot prophets that
- 46:32two year two question. We get this straighted by South like a game.
- 46:45Damn it, tray and amuse. Oh, Richard Dan Anderson, you finally
- 46:52came to our convention. No, I'm looking for the convention for my new
- 46:58show, Stargate SG. You won that it's over there. Say you're into
- 47:07mcgiver. That show was so stupid. Oh, I'm a diver. I
- 47:13can make a bomb out of a banana peal and a toaster. That show
- 47:17was just a paycheck to me and nothing more. No, how could he
- 47:25say that mcgiver is my world? Richard Dean Anderson just pissed off the wrong
- 47:32Richard Dean Anderson fans. It is guaranteed to have been in moments like this
- 47:37where an obsessed fans come up to somebody and they're like, I don't give
- 47:39a fuck about that video game I was in, and I reckon Jim Company's
- 47:42probably done that from time to time. Here's the voice of the character from
- 47:45that video game from nineteen ninety six, and he's like, it was just
- 47:47a paycheck and nothing more. I a family, mean, no, but
- 47:52this is the thing for some people, that's what it would be like something
- 47:57they shows themselves have an impact on the eyes. But to the actors,
- 48:00not every role is going to be as important to them as what the role
- 48:05is to us. You know, acting as of course, you know,
- 48:07a wonderful expression of creativity and art and all that, but it's Yeah,
- 48:10for people who do it professionally, it's a job. It's just a job.
- 48:14Yeah, it's like a pause that doesn't fall in love with every person
- 48:16they sleep with. Do they wait? Wait what man? No one,
- 48:22if she's getting back to my messages, get back to me, Tory Black.
- 48:27I love that you just know a name straight away. I don't think
- 48:30I know any Jenna Jameson. That's I don't know what he wants that name,
- 48:37but anyway, so yeah, so he's just a paycheck, nothing more,
- 48:38and he's broken their hearts. But anyway, it's a Q and A
- 48:40now at the SG one con and I just loved this. This is every
- 48:45Q and A at every convention. Chard Dean Andrew Chin. The four Star
- 48:51franchises Wars, Trek Geek and Search Geek is easily my third favorite. I
- 48:58get that a lot. Question SG one, how would your character Major General
- 49:02Jonathan Jack O'Neill react to appearing at the Springfield started it fan first? I
- 49:07feel like I've just gone through the Starrogate to one heck of a convention.
- 49:15He's a world of us and another thing. When you're at those things,
- 49:21even it's like a sporting event or whatever, they do it at the wrestling
- 49:22caught Off and they make a local reference and you know they're pandering. It's
- 49:25got concerts do it as well, but you just buy into it because it's
- 49:29part of the experience, isn't it. Of Course you know they say the
- 49:31same thing at every city, but doesn't matter. Just hearing your favorite band
- 49:36say, you know Melbourne or Geelong is like, whoo, why are we
- 49:40suckers for? Why do we as humans just for some reason just love the
- 49:45fact that they are saying where we're from and because we're we're tribal animals and
- 49:50we love recognition. It's that That's pretty much it. I mean, particularly
- 49:53come from a relatively yeah I was about to say a small town, but
- 49:58we're a regional city talking about Geelong. It can very be very easy for
- 50:02a place like us to feel sort of overlooked in the grand scheme of things,
- 50:05you know what. I'm like, everybody knows Melbourne, but if you've
- 50:07heard of Geelong, so yeah, so if you know a rock star comes
- 50:13to town or whatever, it's like, hey, you know, I played
- 50:15in towns all over the world, but well there's nothing quite like Geelong.
- 50:20Yeah. Nicol Lake actually got me the other day because we're watching some Simpsons
- 50:24on the weekend and I was like, I don't think I've loved her anymore.
- 50:28We're driving through town. I was like, Oh, these guys skyscrapers,
- 50:30like big building because compared to what Jelong used to be, all these
- 50:32big hotels a holiday and they all getting built and I'm like, fuck,
- 50:36there's so much happening in Gelong right now. Nikola goes, would you say
- 50:38it's a city on the Grove? I was like, Nicola, I've never
- 50:40loved you more. I love city on the Grove. It's one of the
- 50:45most city on the grow grow that is that is pretty cool for that's good
- 50:54stuff, which she very pleased with us all. She was pretty proud.
- 51:01I would hope. So they kidnap him though, don't they Patty and someone
- 51:07they shut the lights off and he's gone missing. The nerds think there must
- 51:09be a starget in this stadium, and then there's a girl in the audience,
- 51:14let's look for her instead, And then they think Willie is the girl
- 51:16who's wearing a cult And it's the closest I'll ever get two thousand and six.
- 51:21But are still Wickavenger still perceived this way in two thousand and six sweaty
- 51:25virgins who think because I feel like Iron Man changed everything, didn't it?
- 51:31I think so. Yeah. I really think it was post iron Man,
- 51:35the start of the MCU. That because I mean even though there were big
- 51:38comic book movies prior to them, I mean, you know, there was
- 51:42the Toby Maguire Spider Man, there were the X Men movies, there was
- 51:45Batman begins. Yeah, I don't think it was really till MCU sort of
- 51:51really started to put its foot on the gas that was like, yeah,
- 51:54that's good a camic can They're gonna be shore new trailer, isn't Oh they're
- 51:57going to reveal who's going to be playing Captain America or thought or something like
- 52:00that. It's like, yeah, it started to become news. Yeah,
- 52:05so before this is very much kind of like, what's that smell in here?
- 52:09It's the odor of Dork. But then RDA, he wakes up at
- 52:14patty Is Someone's house and they say it's gonna be a two on one mcgiver
- 52:16con that will never ever end, and start off by signing these autographs,
- 52:21and I was like, damn, you can write help me all you want.
- 52:25That's very funny. We're now at the airport. Homer is called to
- 52:31his chair to get his call for boarding. March gives him a book about
- 52:35management. Yeah, the cereal was what it? Damn it. I didn't
- 52:40write down the name of the book, but I've seen so many ere you
- 52:45go to an airport, the self help and business self help section is always
- 52:50there's so many of them. They've always got times like this. It is
- 52:54the cereal is the prize, which is actually not a bad title. No,
- 53:00it's like it makes sense. But as I haven't said, it's just
- 53:01like except it doesn't make sense. When it's it's enough to get you to
- 53:07pick the book up. It's like, oh wait a minute, I've been
- 53:10I've been, you know, searching for the wrong prize all this time.
- 53:15You've been putting in your mouth the entire time you can taste the success.
- 53:22I feel like you'd be a sucker. I feel like you'd be a sucker.
- 53:24For a self help book, I feel like you've inflation. I really.
- 53:29Yeah. My sister bought me Tony Robbins one a few years ago and
- 53:31I still haven't read it. But I'm like, I reckon, if I've
- 53:35read that, I'd probably be inspired to do something. I think the biggest
- 53:37ones it can't be a fluke or it can't be that much of a con.
- 53:40Now, you must be helping some people, like people must be benefiting
- 53:45from your from your talks, because how are you how are you selling out
- 53:47stadiums? You know what I mean? Correct? Yeah, I mean,
- 53:51look the great Pta. There's a sucker born every minute, and you know
- 53:54he was probably right. But at the same time, that hasn't stopped me
- 53:58from you know, I've got a copy Tools of Titans here that remains uncracked,
- 54:02and a few others. But Nichol and I have been start started.
- 54:07We've recently started the Barefoot Investor and that's going well for us. Oh yeah,
- 54:09Barefoot Investor is great finances. I've certainly done that. Yeah, I'm
- 54:14just like, actually, we're saving money. I don't feel like I'm doing
- 54:17anything different. I'm just not spending on useless shit like I used to,
- 54:22which I guess is different, but like, I just I don't feel like
- 54:23I'm missing out, you know, I don't feel like going out. I'm
- 54:25just being better with my money. And when you feel like you're bettering yourself
- 54:30and you're achieving something, it's just like, oh wow, this ship's working
- 54:34and it feels like it's so easy. But you needed someone to tell you
- 54:37to read if you really do. Yeah, no, I mean I was.
- 54:40I had a copy of The Barefoot Investor forever and then just like,
- 54:44well, I've bought it, I certainly don't need to read it now.
- 54:45Everything just gonna go my way. I'm like, I don't I don't even
- 54:49anything from some damn book. If this guy has sold ten million copies,
- 54:53is going to be able to teach me anything. So I'm fucking hippie without
- 54:57shoes, forget about it. I remember it. At some stay, I
- 55:00was like, I've got funck all money in the bank and I got bills,
- 55:05I'd better sort my shit out. And at my lowest point, and
- 55:09that was the bad investors. Like that makes sense. The lowest point.
- 55:15I started a podcast with Dander. It's like I said it before and that
- 55:19was yesterday, but radio going, actually this makes sense and yeah I could
- 55:25probably do that. So you started opening a few extra bank accounts and like,
- 55:29okay, now you got to open this and one in this one and
- 55:31yeah it works. Well. Still broke, but not as much as I
- 55:35want be. Going on holidays is loved as Luise now, so that's all
- 55:37that matters, right, That's why I'm broke. Before you read the book
- 55:43at any met Luise, absolutely not the game. I think the last time
- 55:50we went on holiday was the Barley where you know, everything is cheap,
- 55:52including life, and now we're going to the States where everything costs triple Yes
- 55:57it does indeed, yeah, it's um it depends where you go. Being
- 56:00in American I'm like, you guys sold me on the fact that your food
- 56:04was cheap. This shit ain't cheap, and I gotta tip you. I'm
- 56:07gonna pay this guy. What money do you mean the business isn't paying you.
- 56:15I have to pay for the food and your employees. What does that
- 56:20make here? This is a crazy country. You're going here? Good coof
- 56:23you, no one of your own source into India. Homer has never been
- 56:28less angry to receive a book than sixty five hours later, he arrives in
- 56:31India, which he thought he could confused for Indiana. So he thought India
- 56:36was Indiana, which he confused for Illinois, which can then confuse the Cubs
- 56:38for the Dodgers. By the way, I did like the Leo Coca founder,
- 56:43the serial is the prize definitely dot dot dot useful. If you've worked
- 56:46as a reviewer or a critic or anything like that, you'll see that.
- 56:49It's like, definitely not useful, but it will take out the knot and
- 56:53like that's your bull quote. There was a point where I felt like self
- 56:58help books it was almost like embarrassing to reading them. It's like, oh,
- 57:00you need self help book, but now it's just a complete opposite is
- 57:02and it's like, no, you want to help check out this book.
- 57:05Well I did the same thing and it worked for me. It is a
- 57:07massive industry. Yeah, yeah, which is good, go ahead and help
- 57:13themselves. It's you know, you don't have to take every speck of advice
- 57:17they give you, and no, you gotta throw them and you find some
- 57:21that resonates with you, and that's you know, that's probably enough for motivation
- 57:23to turn things around. Hello, it's me. I'm in trouble. Come
- 57:30down, dad. What happened? The CoA took my iPod and I punched
- 57:35it? Do I have to? Okay, okay, I'll show the cow.
- 57:44I adore it. M Oh baby, who did you lose weight?
- 57:51Oh? Come on, baby, don't please hurt your milk. He's looking
- 57:58for a poo's cousin. Carvey finds him straight away. Finally, then the
- 58:04Richard and Anerson. He escapes or he has escaped, and Patty's padding's I
- 58:07can't face jail and sorry. Salmon says that because she's got the baby.
- 58:10But then Patty She's like, I can wow. Then he explains that he
- 58:19escaped because he used his Blue contacts to hide his Latino heritage? Is he
- 58:22actually Latine though, let's let's find that out. Is that is happened to
- 58:25be a joke or is that like a little tidbit of information about the man
- 58:29that may may I'm out may well be the case. I mean, I
- 58:31don't think it's something they would make fun of him than they do sort of
- 58:35notoriously racially insensitive on Richard Dean Anderson. American actor Ricardo descended, No,
- 58:43no, no, no, um, you're happy for was like, wow,
- 58:46Ricardo, No, he's definitely taking the piss because he is not according
- 58:52to Wikipedia, which would not lie to us it um, he is of
- 58:57Norwegian, Scottish, Finnish, Swedish in its German Swedish and possibly mohawk descent.
- 59:02Wow. Oh yeah, so everything, he's got everything but understanding.
- 59:07Yeah yeah, or Latino. I'm always curious about that. I mean,
- 59:10whether listeners who are either up on this or of this particular nationality or creed
- 59:21or whatever Hispanic Latino tell us what's what. I don't want to insult or
- 59:25appear insensitive. We're now in. He wants to be tied up again so
- 59:30we can trying to scap again because he's never going to love the passion for
- 59:31it. My guy ever lives and not just on the two Am, not
- 59:36just two am on the US. I love how when they do Patty and
- 59:40Selma Julie because it's Julie Kavner. Yah, how she's basically doing Harvey Firesteam
- 59:47from Independent. Oh I gonna tell my mother. Oh finally I need you
- 59:57to make me a woman finally. Oh my god, he's awesome. He's
- 1:00:04awesome, missus day. He is fucking fantastic. I love. We need
- 1:00:10to do we need for Patreon. We need to go back and revisit um.
- 1:00:15When Homer gets his hair and he plays Carl Harvey Firestein. Oh yeah,
- 1:00:19because he is so awesome as Carl. That's one of my It's one
- 1:00:22of my favorite bits in all where he goes to the tailor and you know
- 1:00:31you disguise it. Oh if you had a tailor. That so brilliant.
- 1:00:43Let's go shopping up in That's a great episode. Yeah, I think we
- 1:00:49should, Yeah, find someone who wants to talk about that other than us.
- 1:00:52Yeah, yeah, get him on board. Let's do it is so
- 1:00:54good. But now back in India and Burns randomly comes out of the um
- 1:01:00the basket like a snake, just because he wanted it, because he's a
- 1:01:02showman. I was like, what is this Burns character? Now? Like?
- 1:01:07What is he? Yeah? There's no really, I mean I know
- 1:01:08we're sort of say continue, but I don't think they even know who he
- 1:01:14is anymore. One episode he's a cruel guy. One episode he's like helping
- 1:01:15Lisa. Next episode, he's a showman. I'm like, I didn't you
- 1:01:19even know who he is anymore? He's just lost all sense of who the
- 1:01:22Bird's character is. And we yes, human beings are you know, large,
- 1:01:25they contain multitudes, all that kind of stuff, and he's probably got
- 1:01:29many fasts to his character. But I think for the sake of I don't
- 1:01:32know, good storytelling, certain characters should stay in certain lanes. Yeah,
- 1:01:37it's just like the the way they handled the Burns selling the plant in Burns
- 1:01:42the cuff and the craft work where he sells it to the Germans, and
- 1:01:45you know, at first, it's like, you never take my plan away
- 1:01:47from me. It's been in my family and I've built this up. And
- 1:01:50they show him like a hundred million dollars on a little piece of card.
- 1:01:52He's like, who, Like he sells it? Like like, I just
- 1:01:54feel like the Burns in that episode. It's so much different to the Burns.
- 1:01:59Obviously that was three, but Burns here just feels like a blithering old
- 1:02:01man who's in charge of a power player actually has no idea what he's doing.
- 1:02:05As Smith is the entire time is like he's sure it's a good idea,
- 1:02:07sir, Are's sure, it's a good idea. Show shut up Smiths.
- 1:02:09And I'm like, I don't know, just it's kind of sad seeing
- 1:02:14where Burns has ended up now this snake bit coming out of the bus and
- 1:02:16I was like, not even was that went forever? Okay? I like
- 1:02:22the look of it, and there was ever and like I'm a showman,
- 1:02:23I'm like, that's the punchline for that. I don't know, it was
- 1:02:28weird. Yeah, I don't think there was even that. Yeah, I
- 1:02:30like the idea of him coming out like a snake. I think that's kind
- 1:02:32of funny. Yeah, but there was, but it didn't pay off at
- 1:02:35all. It doesn't pay off at all. But I just think it's a
- 1:02:37nice visual gag because I mean, he is sort of evil and snakes are
- 1:02:42representative of evil and all that kind of stuff. But yeah, for Smith's
- 1:02:45to say, what was that planning of that, It's like, yeah,
- 1:02:49I don't know. You meant to be echoing in the audience here, because
- 1:02:51you know, Dando's clearly asking that we're out in mos and we get them
- 1:02:57pointing out all the different things that aren't American, TV, Japanese whatever,
- 1:03:00and the gun misfires and mow and I like that. I thought it was
- 1:03:02very funny. I needed more of this, you know, back in the
- 1:03:06Springfield. It's like there's a reason that people around source. Yes, that's
- 1:03:10the thing. Yeah, And that's what the Simpsons used to be so good
- 1:03:13at. Was and Southpike do a good I'm not gonna get in the South
- 1:03:15Pub. But they get a really controversial topic and they show the pros and
- 1:03:17cons of both of both arguments and then you can decide for yourself. They
- 1:03:22never usually sort of sland on one side or the other. Where now just
- 1:03:25feels like Simpsons aren't very good at showing both sides. It's just like that.
- 1:03:30I don't know this episode. It was a weird, like I enjoyed
- 1:03:32it, but it was just there was certainly much room for improvement. But
- 1:03:36we get Burns here introducing Homer as the new manager of the plant over in
- 1:03:40India. He talks about he was playing Karnac with the bodyguard and I'd want
- 1:03:45the moisture on him. And then Homer has no idea what to say,
- 1:03:49so he gets Marge's book out of the bin. Because you know, he's
- 1:03:52not a very nice person. He threw her book in the bin and he
- 1:03:53beats off something and this was a good gag. Maybe if we cheer,
- 1:03:57we can get back to work. The old yea and burns his soul.
- 1:04:01What he thinks that he's went over the people and smithers s talk about an
- 1:04:05arranged marriage. Marriage again. He's never mentioned again. It's just weird.
- 1:04:09I mean, that's another box arranged marriages. They do arrange marriages in the
- 1:04:13let's let's do that. Who would be awkward to have an arrange marriage?
- 1:04:15The gay guy? The gay guy. But then calls Homer and this was
- 1:04:20also I didn't get this. You know, He's like, yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:25he just went Homer to say, just outsource our source. That's the
- 1:04:28gay Homer is saying to outsource everything. But it's like there's a new bullet
- 1:04:30and he's in the house and he's like, just the outsource. It hangs
- 1:04:31up, and I'm like he comes across like a real shit dad does stuff
- 1:04:39like that, Like I get that. I don't know, Like, yeah,
- 1:04:42he's he's essentially lazy, yes, and he's fallen out of the spell
- 1:04:45of adsourcing thing. Well, you know, it's an answer to all that
- 1:04:47all my problems at least, Yeah, including the ones that don't really aren't
- 1:04:51really sold by adsourcing. But you're right, it's it happened too quickly.
- 1:04:58Yeah. Yeah, between the whole reading our bits from you know, the
- 1:05:01serials a prize and they're like, oh, oh, so outsourcing is the
- 1:05:03thing. I mean, you needed a scene in between where he realizes,
- 1:05:06oh, if I delegate worked with everybody else, I don't have to work,
- 1:05:11but I'll get all the credit. Yeah, you need that, yes,
- 1:05:14but you know we didn't get that in here, and we're supposed to
- 1:05:16sort of accept this scene where yeah, Barts on the phone saying this has
- 1:05:21happened. Well't outsource that? Yeah, I don't. By the way,
- 1:05:25who's that bully? Meant to be? Looked like Slugo from the Nancy cartoons,
- 1:05:28and it looked like an old man, look like it looked like the
- 1:05:34guy that played the Hamburgler that haven't beats up from behind. I just one
- 1:05:42of my favorite things bits of animation in the history of the Simpson is the
- 1:05:45Hamburgers Little little Finger. We that's the Hamburgler. Come. I just think
- 1:05:50it's so good. But for carved dows on various phones but using his different
- 1:05:55accents and Kazari, they're just showing off his now of the basis gags is
- 1:06:02early racist because yeah, Brian from IBM and the concierge at the Dallas Fault
- 1:06:08with Marriott and Queen Mambo Jumbo, Oh boy, but I am. But
- 1:06:12I enjoyed it because yeah, you just know when when you're talking to an
- 1:06:15American, there's never an American talent market to calling the shy. It's and
- 1:06:19that's the thing. It's like, why you pretend to be an American?
- 1:06:23Like, just pretend just talking your voice. I don't care. I'd rather
- 1:06:26just be you tell them tell me about you. I just imagine you getting
- 1:06:31your call. It's like, it's just the real you. Come on on,
- 1:06:35Steve next. Okay, here's the plan. You lock me in the
- 1:06:44trunk of a car and park it under the pier at low tide. All
- 1:06:47I need are these everyday objects, a nail file, a farmer's almanac,
- 1:06:51a gun with no bullets, some bullets, and three of my mcgib riders.
- 1:06:56Sounds great. Can we do it during lunch? No? The last
- 1:07:02thing was my favorite. Three mcgiver riders. I like that's awesome. I'll
- 1:07:06just love that he's give me a now file a farmer's almanac and go without
- 1:07:10bullets, some bullets and three er. I didn't get that bit cover without
- 1:07:16bullets and bullets. That's that's funny stuff like this. This whole B plot
- 1:07:20was awesome, It really I could. I don't think it's worth of an
- 1:07:24entire episode, but it didn't need to be in this one, you know
- 1:07:29what I mean? They could have, yeah, more comic con related A
- 1:07:32plot and then have this one as I have, like him coming to the
- 1:07:34comic con for whatever the A plot is, and then that branches off into
- 1:07:39this B plot where they get him from that con. I think that would
- 1:07:42have been funnier. Yeah. I mean, we've talked in the past about
- 1:07:45oh God, you've taken two undeveloped ideas and smushed them together because you know
- 1:07:48neither would fill a full episode, and that feels definitely the case here because
- 1:07:51as you said, these two aren't related in any way, they don't intertwine
- 1:07:57with one another, but the ap more, I think the A plot could
- 1:08:00have been a full twenty two minutes for sure. Of the whole hoursource ye
- 1:08:03didn't shot. You think it could have been a movie, And I don't
- 1:08:06think you're incorrect, but um, but yeah, the b plot is one
- 1:08:10of the better handled celebrity cameos. Always subtly guest in a while, I
- 1:08:14reckon, I think so. I think so. Going back to what you
- 1:08:16were saying, man, I mean, well what I was saying, what
- 1:08:18you originally said about this being a movie, I think that'd be fantastic about
- 1:08:21how if you have like a full length feature film episode of The Simpsons.
- 1:08:29Yeah, Burns is outsourcing his stuff all over the world. He's like,
- 1:08:33yeah, yeah, First he sends it to Mexico, is like, I
- 1:08:35can you know, get things done for you know, twenty cents on the
- 1:08:40dollar. And it's like, wait a minute, I just found I can
- 1:08:42get it for fifteen cents on the dollar in this place. Yes, over
- 1:08:45the some one side, Like, I can get it even gem if I
- 1:08:47do it, you know, in the worst place on Earth. I was
- 1:08:50like, if I relocate to Antarctica, not the worst place on Earth,
- 1:08:54but you know, I can do it for minus ten cents. And you
- 1:08:57know, so they end up in but they go all over the place,
- 1:09:00and that's what you want from a movie, yes, yeah, and then
- 1:09:01somehow they all they all find out about the benefits, the American benefits like
- 1:09:05Smoco breaks and you know, over time and things like that, to the
- 1:09:09point where it's just like it's cheaper to just do it in America. I'm
- 1:09:12going back on America. Yeah, I think that write the second since the
- 1:09:17movie Let's do it, Let's do it, take this episode never existed and
- 1:09:23just you know, and just go over this story. It definitely is there
- 1:09:27is something there for sure. Yeah, Bill, Matt, I'm sure you're
- 1:09:30listening. You know, we're buds now after you did, you have done
- 1:09:32an episode, um down and I will write this for a reasonable amount of
- 1:09:38money and of course a fair chunk of the back end. Speaking of lunch
- 1:09:41breaks though, pattyon someone suggests can we do this on that lunch break?
- 1:09:44And he's like, no, now, star entitlmed Homer is now output in
- 1:09:48ten times the power that the plant was back in back in Springfield. Um.
- 1:09:54He quotes the book and Burns misinterprets it to think that, you know,
- 1:09:56he doesn't need us here at all. It isn't it us here at
- 1:09:58all. We're just leaving with ultimate power, absolute power. So it doesn't
- 1:10:01that corrupt? Yes, And he says, I have to leave a dinner
- 1:10:05enjoy my scooped out monkey head before it gets cold. And I was like,
- 1:10:09is that a Temple of Doom reference? That's a Temple of Doom reference.
- 1:10:12I'm pretty sure the Temple of Doom reference. And that was the scene
- 1:10:14that used to scare me a lot when I was a kid a lot.
- 1:10:17The worker then shows the various gods of India and homes, and the whole
- 1:10:25transition to him thinking he's a guy just felt very rushed as well, didn't
- 1:10:28it, Because they didn't they didn't allow enough time for all all these little
- 1:10:31things to sort of bridge the gap to these moments. You're right, I
- 1:10:33mean, we love the b plot in this, we love the Richard Dona
- 1:10:38dance and stuff. But yeah, either cut it out completely and just make
- 1:10:41this all a plot, yeah, and stretch it out a little bit.
- 1:10:45So yeah, because I mean, Smithers a los to it with that Line's
- 1:10:48like, sir, it doesn't absolute power corupt absolutely? Yeah. It's like,
- 1:10:53yes it does, and but you give us a moment. Yeah,
- 1:10:55it's missing bridging scenes. Yeah, I realized, oh wait a minute,
- 1:10:59I've got absolute pour and give us a second to show him being corrupted before,
- 1:11:02don't just skip to the end immediately. It's a weird thing because usually
- 1:11:08I don't think we've ever had a Simpsons go to episode where they have a
- 1:11:11second plot. It's always just the family go to a country and that's the
- 1:11:15story and things happen, Buch, just stuff happens and they go home again.
- 1:11:19Is this the first Simpsons go to episode where they've had a b plot
- 1:11:23that's been completely unrelated to going to the said country. I think it might
- 1:11:28be. And it's weird because it's almost like they went, well, we
- 1:11:30need to have celebrity cameos. Oh wait, we can't find any celebrities to
- 1:11:35having a show. All right, well we've got a cameo Richard Dan Anderson.
- 1:11:39Let let's just work that into this story. But I just don't I
- 1:11:41don't think this episode needed any celebrity cameos. I think it like the whole
- 1:11:45transition here where's coming up with Homer is just um, you know, he's
- 1:11:48now a guide and they're like worshiping him, and he's like they've painted a
- 1:11:51planned and he's cut himself off from the free world. We didn't see any
- 1:11:55of that. It was just explained with one line with Smith saying or burn
- 1:11:58saying he's cut himself off from the the from the world, and I'm like,
- 1:12:00when did that happen? We didn't see it happen, Like it's just
- 1:12:03sort of it was really the last sort of like act was very rushed.
- 1:12:08I enjoyed it, but just felt very rushed. There's a lot of you
- 1:12:11having to fill the gaps yourself as a viewer. Yeah. But yeah,
- 1:12:14but so Homer wins the free soda and that's why he thinks he's a god.
- 1:12:16Then burns his floating down the Ganges and Smith says it's not a good
- 1:12:19idea, and then he's surrounded by corpses. But then we come back for
- 1:12:23some reason, Hommer has brought Linnean Karl to India. Yeah, and it's
- 1:12:28a whole apocalypse now kind of shout out as well with the end with the
- 1:12:31doors and you know, going down the river like that. I mean,
- 1:12:33that's very that's yeah, straight up apocalypse now rip off, which is came
- 1:12:38by me. That's yeah, fine movie to deliver from. So why did
- 1:12:41why did he send for Linny and Carl? He said, they go,
- 1:12:44Homer brought us over the India. It's like why Yeah, And I don't
- 1:12:48know. It's weird these disciples, you know that the whole multi arms a
- 1:12:55visionary who's got the multiple arms. I'm not big on my Indian gods because
- 1:13:00because a Pooh says in the song we put the spring in Springfield, he
- 1:13:03says the extra arms on Vishnu. Yes, he had fun. You learned
- 1:13:08a little something to m Yeah, the Vishnu gag doesn't work without you know,
- 1:13:11Lenny and Carl or without having some friends there or what of them.
- 1:13:13But before we get to all that moment, though, we have Richard dan
- 1:13:15Anderson now or dressed up. He's gone former guy. He's now pretending to
- 1:13:17be mcguy. W's with the wig on and everything and wig He's met guiver
- 1:13:20burgers which were made from slim gyms and cheese grater and some rubber bands to
- 1:13:24hold it all together. And then then they get a great idea to get
- 1:13:27him to leave as they start showing their own slides, and they bore him
- 1:13:30to death and he jumps out the window and I'm assuming dies because you just
- 1:13:34see it whack. I think Julie just did a great job with that narration.
- 1:13:42The slide shows the various carriages. That's a landout. Sorry sorry,
- 1:13:47sorry, sorry, very good. Then there's a he lets a note on
- 1:13:57the window sill in grape juice and tears, saying that I think kidnaped,
- 1:14:00which is or whatever? And that's it for Richard dan Anderson. But now
- 1:14:01the Simpsons that ran me on the boat with Burns and smithers that the pockets
- 1:14:05now like floating down the river. And he says home, he's gone mad.
- 1:14:09He's cut himself off from the outside world. And then they arrive and
- 1:14:12I'm just like, what's happening? When did this happen? This is this
- 1:14:15is escalated in the space of a minute. If you boil it right down,
- 1:14:23there's some if you gave it like an elevator pitch, it's like the
- 1:14:26plant outsources to India. Homer goes to run it by accident. He becomes
- 1:14:30really good at his job, and you know it, gets a high opinion
- 1:14:33of himself. And because he's an India, he starts thinking he's a god,
- 1:14:38because you know there's more than one god. He's like, oh,
- 1:14:40well, if there's more than one god, then you know there's room for
- 1:14:42one more. We need to see more of the workers appreciating him before they
- 1:14:45we saw them worshiping him, you know, that's it. Yeah, so
- 1:14:49I don't know, when you're boiling right down, it's like, Okay,
- 1:14:53you've got an idea, you've got a good idea here, but you just
- 1:14:55don't expand on all that. Yeah, he just needed more time. You
- 1:14:57shot yourself in the foot with which you Dan Anderson subplot, which was great
- 1:15:00plot. You put it in a different episode for somewhere else. Yeah,
- 1:15:02exactly. So they arrive and immediately when I heard the chanting, I was
- 1:15:06like, this is definitely feeling like Temple of Doom. And then you see
- 1:15:12him and he's like, oh wait, what's the guy's name from Temple of
- 1:15:14Doom? The leader? Mola m that's the one. Yes, terrify me
- 1:15:18as a child, like that movie is scary man love for a kid,
- 1:15:21like, let me watch that. It's pretty gnarly. I mean, Raiders
- 1:15:28has got some gross stuff in it as well, but yeah, Templa doing
- 1:15:30ramps it up though. Yeah that I think it was discussed before. The
- 1:15:33dude with a heart beating heart and gets put into the burning into the pit,
- 1:15:39but even just the you know, well, the feast is pretty gross.
- 1:15:42I mean, I know you the chill monkey brains does a view.
- 1:15:45What does it for me is the big snake and they cut it open,
- 1:15:46all the little snakes around. It's like, I'm gonna do this. And
- 1:15:49then the bit where the guys fall off the bridge at the end they get
- 1:15:53eaten by the crocs. Yeah, but also even just gross slimy bits,
- 1:15:58like you know, he's Willie Scotts going to reach into that thing and it's
- 1:16:01got the huge, big praying mantis or something like that. But then you
- 1:16:04think back to Raiders and you know there's a bit at the start where it's
- 1:16:08like he's got a spider on his back. Turn around. Oh my god,
- 1:16:11you've got so many spiders any back. Yeah. Up on Disney Plus
- 1:16:15this week, it keeps saying, you want to watch these movies, And
- 1:16:17I'm like, you know what, I do want to watch these movies.
- 1:16:20But I want to watch these movies. I'd interrupt it. So kids go
- 1:16:23to bed, Nicola go to bed to Nicholas never seen Indiana Jones and any
- 1:16:29of them for real, Nicholas never seen them. Oh my god, I'm
- 1:16:32actually looking forward. I'm actually going to make her watching moviney I want to
- 1:16:35see someone watch him for the first time. Yeah, funny. I watch
- 1:16:41Raiders with with lou And and two of her kids or two sons. There's
- 1:16:47a bit near the end where Indians fighting that Nazi mechanic the big the big
- 1:16:53game plane. Yeah, yeah, he gets propeller at the end. Up,
- 1:16:58but he's this big, sort of big guy with a bald. Loo's
- 1:17:02youngest son. We said, hey, it's you. That's that's not I'll
- 1:17:10take that big. It wasn't. He meant it as a burn, but
- 1:17:14it was kind of cute. Yes, it's like, hey, there's you.
- 1:17:18I remember the first time I was like a teenager, realized that Temple
- 1:17:21of Doom was a prequel. I was like, whoa, that's right,
- 1:17:29yeah, because yeah, I think at that stage we'll be useful. Well
- 1:17:31a sequel. It's a sequel. It happened. You have to win.
- 1:17:33This happened before. Wow, Spielbergs done it again, hold up money backs.
- 1:17:45What was it more to say about this? Basically, so they're chanting
- 1:17:48abu shabai, which means vote union. Um, you know, because he
- 1:17:51explained him that they've started following him because he told him all the secrets and
- 1:17:56that was a good payoff. I really like that. That was Like if
- 1:17:59this episode had all time and this all made a bit more sense, that
- 1:18:01would have been a killer way to wrap it up. I think it's like
- 1:18:03a really fun pay he told us about over time, and I'm just like,
- 1:18:06huh, you guys don't get any of that. That's that's and the
- 1:18:11fact that it's called a secret, like only Americans, like the Western world
- 1:18:15gets that, you know what I mean, Like all these guys work't their
- 1:18:17asses off, like they outsource all our work to their because they keeped all
- 1:18:23these extra things a secret over time and been at all these extra benefits,
- 1:18:27which I thought was just very very very well handled. Ending This man told
- 1:18:31you about these things. Yes, in fact, he gave them to us.
- 1:18:35Your a binding contract. A bomb shabay means vote union until no I
- 1:18:45was with you, even the beast and beast combat that had potential. But
- 1:18:51tweeting employees like human beings, that is madness. Oh you up here,
- 1:18:57ill Tabe. Maybe it was your tacat personality. Dick would have mine.
- 1:19:00Yeah, runs, but I reckon I've all had a boss that would definitely
- 1:19:05believe this. Oh but a homer at least it's proud you have dad,
- 1:19:13You've become the first minute outsource of the American workers sense of entitlement and privilege.
- 1:19:16And then we get a really stupid weird line that's like, what's like,
- 1:19:21how's chief Wigham? He was gravely wounded in a bay shoot out?
- 1:19:26He's funny. Yeah, what happened to do with any of this? No
- 1:19:31point to that. There was no need to have that at all, none
- 1:19:35at all, Burns and fires them all two months severance. Then we get
- 1:19:43a random Bollywood sung and dance at the end, and Smithers joins him because
- 1:19:45Burns knows he wants to join in because hey he's gaya. The guys love
- 1:19:50her dance apparently. Yeah, and that's the end of the episode. So
- 1:19:55there is definitely a I would dare say, a classic episode within this somewhere.
- 1:20:00Oh yeah, I think I think we did a good job sort of
- 1:20:02reshaping and excavating it. Yeah. If this was like in like season four,
- 1:20:06I've guaranteed this would be one that we look back on and is love
- 1:20:10I guarantee, because there's definitely such a good story in there somewhere. It's
- 1:20:14just a shame that they bloated the episode with the Richard Dean Anderson's story instead
- 1:20:18of leaving that for something else, and didn't allow themselves more time to flesh
- 1:20:21this one out and have it make more sense, because it was nice for
- 1:20:26them to have a Simpsons go to episode that wasn't just a bunch of a
- 1:20:29bunch of stuff happening and then the Simpsons go home again. No, there
- 1:20:31was a story, There was a story, and there was a reason to
- 1:20:34do this. Yeah, a strong for sure. What do we learn,
- 1:20:39Palmer? Just watch a lean from the episode, mister Davis, don't get
- 1:20:42yourself locked in the trunk of a car without a nail file, a gun
- 1:20:47without bullets and maybe some bullets that I can't believe I missed that gay That
- 1:20:51is gun without bullets and some bullets. That is good. Did I learned?
- 1:20:59Well, I haven't written anything. I'm just gonna try to think of
- 1:21:00something right here on the spot. Let me think of something. Let me
- 1:21:01never look skin through my notes. That dander one guy could probably write a
- 1:21:05decent Simpsons movie if we were given proper financial incentive. I feel like if
- 1:21:12we were given three months to come up with something good, we could produce
- 1:21:16classic ear Simpsons. I really do. Like it's just we're not the only
- 1:21:20ones. I feel like there are a lot of people out there. It's
- 1:21:23almost like it's weird. I don't know that the Simpsons writer's room is such
- 1:21:28a coveted thing where it's almost like, I don't know, but it feels
- 1:21:32like it's a hard room to get into, to the point where it's almost
- 1:21:36like now you have those and I'm not saying this is true, but it's
- 1:21:40almost like no one's allowed to come in in case you should outshow us,
- 1:21:43like yeah, yeah, outshine us. It's almost like there are so many
- 1:21:46people out there that are so talented that you just know would come up with
- 1:21:50great stuff, who were raised on The Simpsons, who care about their characters
- 1:21:54and want the show to be what it once was, and they're just not
- 1:21:58letting them have that opportunity. From this knee forward, your name D'll be
- 1:22:04all right, mister Davis did this time for the Guy David's New Name Championship.
- 1:22:09The current leaderboard stands at this in first position, Luke McKay on thirteen
- 1:22:14points, in second position, Adam Wollhouse and Heath app will be both on
- 1:22:16ten points, and in third position. We have grown Harrow Hill and Karl
- 1:22:19Muldoon both on nine points. What have we got for this week? Okay?
- 1:22:25Then one point goes to the outsource's apprentice. That would be one Justin
- 1:22:31Williams, who also got the one point last week as well. So well,
- 1:22:34don't Justin. That puts you now on four points. Good stuff,
- 1:22:38nice one justin two points four the dope jeeling limited? Not bad. Oh
- 1:22:45that's our man, Luke McKay. He's now climbing further ahead, and I'm
- 1:22:48fifteen points now watch out everybody, okay flying look and three points go to
- 1:22:55I thought this is a really good one. Subcompetent. Oh he could,
- 1:23:00Oh okay. So this one was from Clever Kyle, and Clever Kyle was
- 1:23:04in third position, tied with Garrode Harry Hill. But now Clever Kyle is
- 1:23:09outright second position on twelve points. All right, so third position is still
- 1:23:15is now Adam Worehouse and Heat that will be both on ten points. That
- 1:23:16were second. Then our third. We've got Kyle Muldoon now outright second on
- 1:23:20twelve points, and Luke McKay is three points ahead of Kyle on fifteen points.
- 1:23:25Now. This is the seventeenth episode of season seventeen. I believe there'll
- 1:23:29be twenty two episodes this season. Let's just double check Simpson's season seventeen.
- 1:23:33How many weeks left? We've gone twenty two, so there are five more
- 1:23:36episodes left in this season, five more weeks to try and get three more
- 1:23:41points to catch up Clever Kyle, and you know Adam Worehouse and Heath that
- 1:23:44will be a couple of three points you'll be catching up as well. It's
- 1:23:45very tight at the top of that our leaderboard there, so Luke McKay on
- 1:23:48fifteen, Kyle mule Doon on twelve, Adam Worehouse Heat that will be on
- 1:23:51ten, and Grode Harry Hill on nine. Very close. You can do
- 1:23:55it, Goes, you can do it. Indeed, all right, mister
- 1:23:58Davis, let's say it's time we get into that mail bag, reaching deep
- 1:24:00and see what we can fish out here. First question near Andrew JP.
- 1:24:08As always, he's got a top contributor badge on our exclusive Facebook community as
- 1:24:12well. By the way, guys want to be a part of that,
- 1:24:13Just going to be a supporter on Patreon two dollars per month gee access to
- 1:24:16not only some exclusive podcasts, but also our Facebook community. So this one
- 1:24:21here, He says, what's your favorite continuation slash remake of an old TV
- 1:24:26show? I really enjoyed that nineties show. Despite the glaring Batman Forever mistake
- 1:24:29that Dawn they pointed out on Twitter. It had a good mix of nostalgic
- 1:24:32fan service and new characters. Wow. I didn't mind the Willing Grace one
- 1:24:38once they got over the Trump gags. They were so heavy, so Trump
- 1:24:41heavy for the first season, to the point we were just like, I
- 1:24:43don't want to think about politics when I'm watching my sitcoms. Just fuck off
- 1:24:46with that stuff. Yeah, they got too clever with it, but it
- 1:24:49was nice to see. Yeah, it was nice to see those characters return.
- 1:24:53Though. What else that nineties show? It was fine and I do
- 1:24:58agree like it was nice fan service, but I maybe need to give it
- 1:25:00another go. I want you to watch it later at night. So I
- 1:25:02was tired, but it just felt too dumbed down for me. What about
- 1:25:08you? What's the show that's sort of been remade or continued on that from
- 1:25:12an earlier time. That's a really tough one. I'm having trouble thinking one.
- 1:25:15In all honesty, I've heard the Connors is good. Oh yeah,
- 1:25:19no, I never really, I haven't got I don't know where to watch
- 1:25:23it in Australia. Is it on Disney pluts? Not on Disney Pluts.
- 1:25:27I don't know if it is. I have not seen it on this do.
- 1:25:30Maybe it is. I'm not too sure, but I've heard the Connors
- 1:25:31is good. I've heard The Fuller House does a good job of sort of
- 1:25:35continue on the full House kind of vibe. I'm think pretty sure it's been
- 1:25:39canceled now after like five seasons, but you know, to get five seasons
- 1:25:42out of a show like that's a pretty good run in my opinion, especially
- 1:25:44in twenty twenty three. Anything else that comes to my mind, I can't
- 1:25:46really think of anything that comes to mind now. I think you can see
- 1:25:50the Connors own ten view in the okay, in a stream. I mean
- 1:25:57you've got to watch those pesky ads though, oh Man and Magan, so
- 1:26:01you can't skip me. Then I'm like, oh god, But that's enough
- 1:26:06answers anyway, all right, Next question my Boston Burchess. He says,
- 1:26:10who is your favorite cult hero? Favorite cult hero? Wow? Well,
- 1:26:15cult hero? What defines a cult hero? Cult hero? Yeah? That's
- 1:26:18a really good question. I'm going to google best cult hero is. Who
- 1:26:21it comes up to might give me an idea best cult heroes. Let's have
- 1:26:26a look. I guess always a sport sporting people. Yeah, a writer,
- 1:26:30musician, artist, or other public figure who was greatly admired by a
- 1:26:33relatively small audience, who was influential despite limited commercial success. Okay with that,
- 1:26:40Yeah, absolutely, there's a guy named Nick Drake for me. He
- 1:26:44was a UK sort of singer songwriter. Died at a very young age.
- 1:26:49It was either a drug overdose or accidental or deliberate. But he made like
- 1:26:55three albums and they're just really good and you can sort of see and feel
- 1:26:59his influence for a lot of stuff. But there's a good biography. Well
- 1:27:02there's a biography amount now. I don't know if it's good yet, but
- 1:27:04I'm going to pick it up for my travels and read it on the plane.
- 1:27:06But Dick, Nick Drake, here's my guy. Alrighty, Justin Williams,
- 1:27:12is there a staff from one of your favorite shows growing up that you
- 1:27:14would like to meet Brucie Baby? Well yeah, yeah, I mean I
- 1:27:17would have loved to have met Bruce Beck in his sort of although I wonder
- 1:27:21doesn't want to speak ill of people who are going through roughish times at the
- 1:27:26moment. Bruce was apparently a bit of a prickly character on occasion, but
- 1:27:30I would have loved to have met Bruce. Yeah, every of you was
- 1:27:33a prick. It's like he's doing the thing he's doing that. Bruce was
- 1:27:38a prick too, who was someone that I would like to meet from much
- 1:27:42haild as well. Speaking of our man Jim Cummings, he may not be
- 1:27:45the one on the show, but he essentially, as people say, voiced
- 1:27:48our childhood for those of us that grew up in the nineties. So getting
- 1:27:51to our do work with Jim has been an honor. Really, you know,
- 1:27:56he's this man is a dare we say god in the Disney world.
- 1:28:00He's um no, he voiced so many of the iconic characters from my childhood.
- 1:28:02So it's that was pretty well. What's nice is that you know,
- 1:28:05when you meet Jim, he's exactly how you would hope he would be.
- 1:28:10Isn't he very affable fellow, very very quick witted, but very friendly with
- 1:28:16it? Dear, you don't feel intimidated at all. He's he's a bit
- 1:28:20of a warm hug of a human being, if if he wouldn't mind me
- 1:28:24saying that if when the poo was a human being, it would be Jim
- 1:28:27Cummings. There you go correct. Finally, here Alice Kayley Burton, she
- 1:28:30says this is one of her favorite episodes from the later seasons. Our union's
- 1:28:33a big thing in Australia. Yep, yep, this is quite apt for
- 1:28:42those of us in the UK. There are so many strikes going on at
- 1:28:44the moment. Yeah, Australia used to be particularly Geelong. Geelong used to
- 1:28:48be so heavily based with manufacturing, didnaturing. But you know the thing is,
- 1:28:54taking all that away from Geelong hasn't impacted Geelong in the sense that Geelong
- 1:28:59just feels like it is just booming now because we're no longer a blue collar
- 1:29:03town, are we? We were for so long in the place were a
- 1:29:06blue collar, sleepy hollow. Nothing's happening down there. It's where shit got
- 1:29:11made. Yeah, it's where she got made. It's now the opposite,
- 1:29:14isn't it. Yeah, it's becoming a lot more white collar. Like we're
- 1:29:17almost an India and there are like a lot of places are outsourcing there.
- 1:29:23Yeah, they're there cortisines are like, hey, we can build offices in
- 1:29:28Geelong and pay half the rent, if maybe even less, And we can
- 1:29:31pay them less because the cost living is less, you know. So it's
- 1:29:34like, yeah, people are starting to realize, Hey, that Geelong place,
- 1:29:38that's a good thing we can take advantage of. It's a city on
- 1:29:42the grow. Yeah, but yeah, the whole Union aspect. Really,
- 1:29:46I appreciate a lot more having gone through my job being taken away from me
- 1:29:50due to outsourcing, so I definitely appreciate it that that angloist. Wish they
- 1:29:54handed it a little more thoroughly. Finally, he actually this more more,
- 1:29:59Glen Gomez says. He says, which actors have you seen in a show
- 1:30:01where you've also seen him in a previous show and you can only all you
- 1:30:03can do is envision him on their previous show. For me, whenever I
- 1:30:06see somebody from a big sitcom, usually like a you know, Sean Hayes,
- 1:30:10for example, He'll always be Jack. He'll always be just Jack,
- 1:30:13won't he. Yeah, he just wanted he just wanted a Tony for his
- 1:30:16work on Broadway. So yeah, congratulations Shawn Hays. But Towarus, You'll
- 1:30:19always be just Jack. Yeah. And you know, for example, even
- 1:30:24dare I say Mark Hamill, people see him it's like it's Luke Skywalker.
- 1:30:27Oh yeah, to the point where he I feel like it maybe one of
- 1:30:30the reasons why he delved into voice acting, because then you wouldn't see his
- 1:30:32face and think, oh, it's Luke Skywalker. It's we grew up with
- 1:30:36him voicing the Joker. I didn't realize it was Mark Hamill until I was
- 1:30:41much older. But he is so good at it, and I think that
- 1:30:43as he benefited from not being able to see his face because it was such
- 1:30:47an iconic role, He'll always be seen as Luke Skywalker. So I think
- 1:30:50voice acting was such a huge positive for him. Yeah. Absolutely. I
- 1:30:55mean it still happens to some small degrees. I mean Predera Piscal is obviously
- 1:31:00doing quiet well, he's got various gigs. But you know, I think
- 1:31:04Mandalorian for me, though I sent the message he's not in the suit anymore
- 1:31:09correct ye, Like he's doesn't seem like it should matter, But for me
- 1:31:15it matters. Oh yeah, like it really matters. For me. I'm
- 1:31:17just like, oh, he's just voicing. Oh, it doesn't feel the
- 1:31:19same anymore now that I know that, you know, I mean not that
- 1:31:23the last season was any good really anyway, I feel like that The Mandalorian
- 1:31:26has really lost it lost. I tuned out halfway through. I think I
- 1:31:30watched maybe three episodes, and I think the last one I saw was where
- 1:31:33little Baby Yoda not gonna call him grog Baby Yoda. Yeah that calling grogu
- 1:31:39baby Yoda, that's his name, did the backflips and won the little sort
- 1:31:43of sparring content, like you know what, not for me anymore. I
- 1:31:48watched The Way Indoor season two. I'm like halfway through the season, and
- 1:31:54I'm like, how have they fucked this up? Yeah? The Mandalorian,
- 1:31:59it would it was like a thing that could go on forever. It's just
- 1:32:01like Space Sheriff goes from town to town clean shit up. Yeah, how
- 1:32:08have you fucked this up? You know why? Because you're so infatuated with
- 1:32:12a fucking universe that you tried to incorporate it into a Bob fat and you're
- 1:32:15so focused on creating a fucking Star Wars MCU, like a Star Wars version
- 1:32:19of the MCU, that you have to watch everything to stay over complicated it.
- 1:32:25Like you said, it. Literally, it's just sheriff goes to town
- 1:32:27and fixes the issue. That's all it needed to be. And you've made
- 1:32:30it too. You've just fucked it. You've sucked it. You played yourself.
- 1:32:33Yeah all right, but anyway, that is enough. Let's wrap up
- 1:32:38this from S. Davis of the Kisskis Bang Bangalore Review. Hope you guys
- 1:32:42enjoyed it. I am, Yeah, definitely. This is one of the
- 1:32:44better the Simpsons go to episodes because it's not just the Simpsons go to episode
- 1:32:46just could have been could have been much more detaining and much more you know,
- 1:32:51revered, if handled with a little more care, could have been a
- 1:32:55little titter. Yeah, tast episode though from season seventeen that we're reviewing is
- 1:32:59the wetter story he's ever told, So looking forward to get into that one.
- 1:33:01I don't remember that one at all, so interested to see what they
- 1:33:04can throw at me for that episode. But this has been our review of
- 1:33:06Kiss Kiss Bang Banglare. By the way, we didn't meage what this the
- 1:33:10titles are play on what is it, mister Davis? Well, um,
- 1:33:14yeah, there's one of my favorite movies is called Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,
- 1:33:18which came out a year prior to this episode he did starring Robert Downey Junior
- 1:33:24and Val Kilmer. But I want to see if I've got this right,
- 1:33:28because I believe that Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was also the Japanese title of didn't
- 1:33:36the guy that from Predator make? Yeah? That's yeah, that's Shane Black.
- 1:33:41Yeah, yeah, did did he? Did he direct the original Predator
- 1:33:44or the new one? He was in the first Predator? He was,
- 1:33:48he directed the new one? Yeah, he's the guy who tells the pussy
- 1:33:50jokes, yes, yeah, and he also did a bit of a He
- 1:33:54also did a bit of on the on the set riding and yeah. Then
- 1:33:58he did the Predator a few years ago, which was not good. It
- 1:34:01was um the theme song for Thunderball or there's a Sorry, there's a lot
- 1:34:10of confusing information about this, but essentially there is a James Bond song called
- 1:34:14mister Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Okay, so that's where it comes from as
- 1:34:17well. I'm just looking up here. So do you know how much money?
- 1:34:21Kiss Kisskiss Bang Bang made something like ten fifteen million dollars, so it
- 1:34:27cost fifteen and it may back fifteen point eight. Yeah. Not good,
- 1:34:31not good, But you find that happening a lot, especially now is so
- 1:34:35many good movies and not making money at the box office anymore. It's just
- 1:34:39we're now viewing habits are changed. I don't think you can take box office
- 1:34:42taking this into account as a true reflection on what people think of a movie
- 1:34:45anymore. And it's really no, everything's going to streaming and video on demand
- 1:34:51so fast, I mean fast X. The Lays Fast and the Furious movie
- 1:34:55was in cinemas for maybe three weeks. It's add on video on demand now
- 1:35:00you could watch the Poe. I think you've got I think it now has
- 1:35:03to change for movies from like let's say twenty twenty two on, what's twenty
- 1:35:06twenty one onwards? Maybe, but from the pandemic where you don't put up
- 1:35:11the box office taking to take box office plus video streaming. So I felt
- 1:35:15the streaming costs need to be out accumulated into the money that the film has
- 1:35:18made. Look, these are really interesting and turbulent and challenging times for the
- 1:35:26entertainment industry because you know, streaming, Yeah, no one wants to pay
- 1:35:30for ship. I mean, whether it's streaming or piracy or whatever, it
- 1:35:33has really kneecapped a lot of things. You know, and like we were
- 1:35:38saying, art is creativity and expression also, but it's also you know,
- 1:35:44you've got to make money doing it because that money goes back into other projects.
- 1:35:46Dare I say the money has gone back into television? True true movies
- 1:35:51do well at the box office, but I feel like the ones that make
- 1:35:54the most of the ones that people like Netflix are willing to pay to have
- 1:35:58the rights to, or he said, to have the rice for example,
- 1:36:00like a Game of Thrones and things like that, Like that's where you're making
- 1:36:03your money now, right, I think. So. I was talking about
- 1:36:06this with a friend of mine long ago. I mean one of my one
- 1:36:09of my heroes, one of my guys, as Ben Affleck, because he
- 1:36:11strikes me as a really smart guy. And he did this long interview recently
- 1:36:15around the time of the release of Air, the movie about the their Jordan
- 1:36:18Sneakers at that which he directed, and he sort of formed this production company
- 1:36:24to finance it and all that kind of business, and he was talking about
- 1:36:28he seemed very savvy about the way the business was organized and how you know,
- 1:36:30he had one of his old movies of the town that he sold it
- 1:36:34had been on other streaming services but then he sold it to Netflix or a
- 1:36:36license of Netflix, for fifteen million dollars. And he makes the kind of
- 1:36:41movies that it's like Sunday night, there's too many options. I can't keep
- 1:36:45streaming. I know that movie. I recognize that movie, and it's going
- 1:36:47to go down easy. I was like that the other night. I mean,
- 1:36:49I had so many options to watch, and I'm like, I'd seen
- 1:36:54Air maybe three weeks earlier. I'm like, I can't be asked looking for
- 1:36:57more stuff. I remember liking this, and there's probably that I've missed the
- 1:37:00first time. Let's just watch this again. And that's the kind of movie
- 1:37:02that will keep making money again and again and again and again. Yeah,
- 1:37:06but I don't know, Like I said, interesting times, challenging times.
- 1:37:11What's the thing also with streaming now is that we're so blessed with how much
- 1:37:15content is out there, but the fact that there's so much content out there
- 1:37:18now that it's hard for something to be made, appreciated and remembered because you
- 1:37:24just forget it the second you start watching the next show, Like how many
- 1:37:28shows have you watched? And you have so absorbed in and then a month
- 1:37:30later you forgot that you even watched it. You're like, oh, yeah,
- 1:37:32that show. That was really guys. I dedicated fifty hours and I
- 1:37:34love to watching that. I haven't thought about it since. Yeah, Tarantino
- 1:37:39said something about this recently. I mean, you know, he's sort of
- 1:37:41got called out Ryan Reynolds, but he said, yeah, the reason I
- 1:37:45make movies and put them in cinemas is so you'll remember the experience of going
- 1:37:48to the movies and seeing it. Ryan Reynolds makes like makes all these moves,
- 1:37:53and Netflix like Red Notice or The Adam Project or Whatever's like I I've
- 1:37:58watched both of those recently. I'm like, hey, was that did that
- 1:38:00happen in that movie or that movie? I just know it was Ron Reynolds
- 1:38:03sort of you know, smoking and dropping one liners and ship. Yeah.
- 1:38:08So yeah, I mean they make a lot of stuff. That is something
- 1:38:12I read. Really that struck a chord reasently. It stopped being up when
- 1:38:15you started calling content because that's when you know machines could make it. Yeah,
- 1:38:21it's good for the like for us to consume it because we've got We're
- 1:38:25so blessed. I was trying to explain to Eliot yesterday because I said,
- 1:38:29go to bed, We'll take the footy for it. He goes, what
- 1:38:30does tape it mean? I was like, fuck, you'll never You'll never
- 1:38:33understand what that means. I was like, we're gonna save on the He
- 1:38:36gooes, okay, so it'll be on the TV. I'm like, yeah,
- 1:38:39you'll be on the TV's like okay, but like the idea of having
- 1:38:42to say something. But I was explaining to him about the video stor because
- 1:38:44I said to Nicola, we have this joke whenever we drive down Shannon Avenue,
- 1:38:47the gym sure the gym on the corner was video easy. I must
- 1:38:53always say, do you know when I was going used to be video?
- 1:38:55I'd say every time, just to annoy Nikola. It's just a joke,
- 1:38:57right, And now it goes, what's the video shop? And I was
- 1:38:59like, that's where when Daddy and Mummy were your age, we used to
- 1:39:02have to go to the shop if we wanted to watch a movie and it
- 1:39:05wasn't at the movies and we didn't have it at home, we didn't buy
- 1:39:08it from the shop. We could go to this shop and they would have
- 1:39:10all the movies, and if they still had it there, someone else hadn't
- 1:39:13borrowed it. We could borrow it, watch it and take it back.
- 1:39:15He guess what did you have to take it back for? I said,
- 1:39:17so someone else could watch it. He goes, didn't that TV have it?
- 1:39:20I was like, it's like, it's like and made me realize how
- 1:39:26lucky kids aren't there and they don't really understand the concept of having to just
- 1:39:30appreciate the three movies that you owned on tape, like summer holidays, you
- 1:39:33own five fucking movies and you just watch the shit out of them, right,
- 1:39:36and yet you where like now kids they can't sit through a movie anymore.
- 1:39:41They're like because there's just too much there to just We'll at a party
- 1:39:45on Friday for one of my cousins and the kids were sitting there and it
- 1:39:48got the fucking YouTube up through the PlayStation or like Elliott's age, and they're
- 1:39:53watching like thirty seconds one video. No, the next one, they're watching
- 1:39:56two. Let's put a diff one and put that one. I saw that
- 1:39:59one. They got from video to video to video to video. I'm just
- 1:40:00like, they can't sit still, they can't focus anymore. Well, that's
- 1:40:04funny. I mean that that thing about you know, short attention spans.
- 1:40:10That's been going on forever. Yeah, but it seems that the window seems
- 1:40:14to be shrinking with each generation. Like Elliott watches this channel, well I
- 1:40:17don't let him watch it anymore. But it's called Fun Squad, right,
- 1:40:20And it used to just be a family they have like five kids just making
- 1:40:25home movies, just being fun, like you know, cooking challenges and things
- 1:40:29like just having a bit of fun and have clearly been like I feel like
- 1:40:31bought out by somebody because now you're watching and it used to feel like a
- 1:40:35home video. But the fact that it felt like it was a home video
- 1:40:38was the charm of it. But now I timed it the other day.
- 1:40:42It doesn't go more than five seconds without a zoom in or a cut to
- 1:40:45something and a cut to this, and I'm like, no, one of
- 1:40:48kids have no attention span. They're fucking they can't concentrate on this. Some
- 1:40:53very savvy person at a YouTube or some consulting firm has gone the algorithm tells
- 1:41:00us that they're like this, this, this, and this, Please include
- 1:41:01all these things in your next view and don't go any longer than eight minutes.
- 1:41:04Yeah, oh okay, So it's just like like like they're talking there
- 1:41:10and then like closes it close up of his face and it zooms out and
- 1:41:13it's close up of her face and then like a wacky twelly thing, and
- 1:41:15I'm just like, this has been ten seconds. We've had like six camera
- 1:41:17changes. Why can't they just why can't they give to have the camera?
- 1:41:21I could literally get a headache watching it. Allie's just like I like it,
- 1:41:25and like he's getting more addicted to it. I'm like, that's it,
- 1:41:28plug pulled. You ain't watching this shit anymore. But enough about round.
- 1:41:32We've gone forever we haven't. This has been a long ass episode,
- 1:41:36but I hope you guys enjoyed it. I feel like I was actually talking
- 1:41:39to one of our one of our patrons recently, is like, you know
- 1:41:41what I like the most about the show now is when you guys just sort
- 1:41:44of just just talk about shit. He's like, no, the Simpsons is
- 1:41:46great, but like the Simpsons season seventeen isn't really the four finger discount show
- 1:41:50by season seventeen isn't really the reason I listened to you guys. I'm listening
- 1:41:55to you guys review the episodes. It's more just having you guys in my
- 1:41:58life. So I'm just like, I'm not gonna stop us from doing tangents
- 1:42:00anymore. And obviously I'm not gonna go this long every time. But occasionally
- 1:42:04in previous episodes he'd be like, sometimes, you know, it became for
- 1:42:08him, this guy Andrew Swansey's name, love him. He's happened us with
- 1:42:12a discord. He said to me, it almost became like a drinking game
- 1:42:15where guy would go off on a tangent and after a couple of minutes you'd
- 1:42:17go. But anyway, back to the episode, it's like see the Lion
- 1:42:19Dando. It's like you'd constantly kind of guy from the tangents. He's like,
- 1:42:23just let guy go, Just let him go off on these tangents and
- 1:42:27if it doesn't work, delete it. But I'm like, you know what,
- 1:42:29I'm gonna sit back now, let guy go. And I feel like
- 1:42:30some of the conversation with go today have been a lot of fun. Race
- 1:42:33yourself for a lot of tangent that don't work, or you'll never hear that.
- 1:42:39They never hear this conversation anyway goes thank you all right, that's it
- 1:42:50with a reviewed kiss Kiss, Bang Bang Glow. The next episode is the
- 1:42:54wetter stories of ATBs, so David's any find words for those amazing listeners out
- 1:42:58there, Oh, amazing listeners. I hope you've found this podcast episode definitely
