- Lucas: Velkommen til Learn Danish with Fexingo, episode 68. Luna, are you hungry? Luna: Always! What are we learning today? Lucas: Today we're going to a restaurant. We'll learn how to order food in Danish. Luna: Oh, perfect. I need to know how to say 'I would like...' without sounding like a robot. Lucas: Exactly. And the phrase is Jeg vil gerne have... Let's break it down: Jeg vil gerne have. Say it with me. Luna: Jeg vil gerne have. Lucas: Good. It means 'I would like to have...' For example, Jeg vil gerne have en menu. Luna: Jeg vil gerne have en menu. So 'en menu' is 'a menu'? Lucas: Yes, but in Danish, 'en menu' often means a set meal, like a lunch special. But you can also use it for the menu card. Most places will understand. Luna: Got it. So I can say Jeg vil gerne have en menu. Lucas: Exactly. Now, if you want to ask for a recommendation, you say Hvad vil du anbefale? Du means 'you', anbefale is 'recommend'. Luna: Hvad vil du anbefale? That's a bit of a mouthful. Lucas: Try it slowly: Hvad vil du an be fa le. Luna: Hvad vil du anbefale. Hvad vil du anbefale. Lucas: Perfect. Now after you eat, you might want to say the food tastes good. Det smager godt. Det means 'it', smager is 'tastes', godt is 'good'. Luna: Det smager godt. I hope I get to say that! Lucas: And when you're ready to leave, you ask for the bill: Regningen, tak. Regningen means 'the bill', tak is 'please' or 'thanks'. Luna: Regningen, tak. Simple. Okay, let me try a whole scenario. Jeg vil gerne have en menu. Hvad vil du anbefale? Det smager godt. Regningen, tak. Lucas: That was excellent! You just ordered a meal, asked for a recommendation, complimented the food, and paid. Luna: I feel so prepared. Let's practice more. Can we do a roleplay? Lucas: Sure. I'll be the waiter. Godaften. Hvad kan jeg hjælpe med? Luna: Godaften. Jeg vil gerne have en menu. Lucas: Selvfølgelig. Vi har en dagens ret med fisk. Luna: Hvad vil du anbefale? Lucas: Jeg anbefaler dagens ret. Den er meget populær. Luna: Okay, jeg tager den. Lucas: Godt valg. Vær så god. Velbekomme. Luna: Mange tak. Det smager godt. Lucas: Dejligt. Er der mere? Luna: Nej tak. Regningen, tak. Lucas: Selvfølgelig. Det bliver 150 kroner. Luna: Here you go. That felt so real!
