- 1:53Speaker 1: r oh A and T. In this edition of Disguise Coverage,
- 1:58Speaker 1: we are fully into the part of the off season
- 2:03Speaker 1: where we start forecasting and looking forward to the twenty
- 2:09Speaker 1: twenty six season, both literally and figuratively. And in last
- 2:12Speaker 1: week's episode, we went through the Buffalo Bills draft class
- 2:15Speaker 1: for this season, played a little bit of keep or
- 2:17Speaker 1: change for every single pick that was there with Jpacosta.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Very fun episode. If you did not check that out
- 2:23Speaker 1: or see that one, go back check it out. It
- 2:25Speaker 1: was very fun. It was a good time. Fun was had,
- 2:27Speaker 1: and so I feel like now a bow has been
- 2:30Speaker 1: kind of put on free agency for the most part,
- 2:34Speaker 1: although some some moves could still happen. Yes, and as
- 2:37Speaker 1: r J says, hey, everyone's super glad there's no Savers
- 2:39Speaker 1: game tonight for ants sake. Yeah, going forward, if there
- 2:41Speaker 1: is a Savers game on Tuesday night, I will not
- 2:44Speaker 1: be doing a live episode of Disguise Coverage. I'd probably
- 2:47Speaker 1: do something later in the week or an offline episode
- 2:49Speaker 1: and loaded up there will if the Savers are playing
- 2:54Speaker 1: what we will not be doing the show live. I'm
- 2:55Speaker 1: just putting that out there going forward. So everybody kind
- 2:57Speaker 1: of knows the schedule, and oh, what's up, Dirty Jersey.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Appreciate you, appreciate you. Yeah. So, now again, the Bills
- 3:04Speaker 1: could still make a couple moves here and there. There
- 3:07Speaker 1: are some free agents that are still available. We could
- 3:09Speaker 1: see some roster cuts happening, especially once camp starts. We
- 3:12Speaker 1: get closer to camp. But you know, for all intents
- 3:14Speaker 1: and purposes, Sorry, I feel like the I'm starting to
- 3:19Speaker 1: get like the if I talk consistently, I'm started to
- 3:20Speaker 1: cough a little bit. I think it's the change in
- 3:21Speaker 1: the weather. I just want to put that out there
- 3:23Speaker 1: in case I have to mute for the live viewers
- 3:26Speaker 1: here and cough randomly. But we're at the stage now,
- 3:31Speaker 1: free agency mostly done, the draft done obviously. The Bills roster,
- 3:35Speaker 1: for all intents and purposes, I don't know how to quantify,
- 3:38Speaker 1: it is largely set. Again, we could see some movement
- 3:40Speaker 1: and shaken here and there. We could see some guys
- 3:42Speaker 1: get cut from other teams and get brought in. There
- 3:44Speaker 1: are still some free agents that are kicking around that
- 3:45Speaker 1: the Bills might take interest in. Some former Bills, some
- 3:48Speaker 1: non former Bills that could fit into what they are doing.
- 3:51Speaker 1: But again for all intents and purposes, this Buffalo Bill's
- 3:54Speaker 1: roster is set, coaching staff is set, the roster is set.
- 3:57Speaker 1: We kind of have an idea of what the depth
- 3:59Speaker 1: chart looks like, what the roster looks like, what some
- 4:01Speaker 1: training camp battles and competitions will look like. And so
- 4:05Speaker 1: now I think, yeah, we start to get to the
- 4:07Speaker 1: point in this offseason where you start to forecast a
- 4:11Speaker 1: little bit, look forward a little bit, and that is
- 4:13Speaker 1: kind of where this episode comes in, as we start
- 4:16Speaker 1: to look forward here on this show, and there's a
- 4:19Speaker 1: lot of questions going into twenty twenty six and even beyond.
- 4:21Speaker 1: You know, there's short term questions for this Bills team,
- 4:24Speaker 1: there's long term questions for this Bills team, especially on
- 4:26Speaker 1: the defensive side of the ball. I feel like so
- 4:28Speaker 1: much the conversation this offseason has been around the defense
- 4:31Speaker 1: and will probably continue to be so, or do so,
- 4:36Speaker 1: And that's where we start in tonight's episode. So we
- 4:39Speaker 1: are going to look at several Buffalo Bills players that
- 4:42Speaker 1: could use a jump in their game in twenty twenty
- 4:44Speaker 1: six and putting it in the perspective of if these
- 4:49Speaker 1: players do have a jump in their game, the positive
- 4:52Speaker 1: or significant impact it could have on the defense. Now,
- 4:56Speaker 1: for me, we got five players to talk about in
- 4:58Speaker 1: this episode. I do, I did, I dude, I did,
- 5:02Speaker 1: I combind did and uh, dude, I don't know what
- 5:05Speaker 1: I combine there. I wanted to keep it within guys
- 5:08Speaker 1: who necessarily haven't had a breakout, so guys that you know.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I like James's point here of Terrel Bernard has got
- 5:13Speaker 1: to be healthy. I thought of even kind of putting
- 5:15Speaker 1: Torel Bernard. I'll get into him in a little bit
- 5:20Speaker 1: when we talk about another player, but kind of the
- 5:23Speaker 1: qualifiers for this one, are you know, for this episode
- 5:26Speaker 1: for me at least, were or are you know, players
- 5:29Speaker 1: that haven't really broken out, players who may have a
- 5:33Speaker 1: questionable role on this team, who may have kicked around
- 5:35Speaker 1: a little bit but now haven't really solidified something. It
- 5:38Speaker 1: could be somebody early into their tenure with the Bills,
- 5:40Speaker 1: It could be somebody early into their career. And so
- 5:45Speaker 1: I looked at it more from a positional standpoint and
- 5:48Speaker 1: how guys kind of fit in, and then broke it
- 5:52Speaker 1: down from there based on who they are, what their
- 5:54Speaker 1: floor is, what they're ceiling is, what a jump for
- 5:56Speaker 1: them could mean in twenty twenty six, but then how
- 5:58Speaker 1: that would tie into twenty twenty seven and beyond. So
- 6:00Speaker 1: that's kind of the qualifier for this episode. Less less
- 6:04Speaker 1: of established guys who you know could get back into
- 6:07Speaker 1: form or you know somebody you know who who has
- 6:10Speaker 1: shown flashes before but then got hurt and kind of
- 6:14Speaker 1: fell off a little bit. And this is more so
- 6:16Speaker 1: away from that and more towards guys who really haven't
- 6:19Speaker 1: established themselves in any way, shape or form from a
- 6:23Speaker 1: consistency standpoint, kind of aren't really necessarily on the radar,
- 6:27Speaker 1: and how we move forward from there in that regard. Now,
- 6:30Speaker 1: for those of you playing at home, as we go
- 6:35Speaker 1: through each player in this episode and position in this
- 6:39Speaker 1: episode that is tied to the players, let me know
- 6:41Speaker 1: your thoughts, questions, comments, concerns. If you have different players,
- 6:44Speaker 1: if you have guys from different lists, different positions, different thoughts, whatever,
- 6:48Speaker 1: you know. We like to make the show as engaging
- 6:50Speaker 1: and back and forth as possible, especially with the live chat.
- 6:53Speaker 1: So if you are joining me here live on the show,
- 6:55Speaker 1: anything you got questions, thoughts, comments, concerns, put it up
- 6:57Speaker 1: into the live chat. As always, super chats get priority
- 6:59Speaker 1: because respect the monetary donation, and the color attracts me
- 7:02Speaker 1: from my notes and brings me back to the chat
- 7:04Speaker 1: like a cat with a laser pointer. But I will
- 7:06Speaker 1: try to get through anything and everything as much as
- 7:08Speaker 1: possible as we go forward. Here grab a couple of comments.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Early on, Ryan says, a land In Jackson sophomore year
- 7:16Speaker 1: Cole Bishop type of leap would sure be a welcome However,
- 7:21Speaker 1: unlikely surprised we're gonna talk about Landy Jackson. Spoiler, he's
- 7:25Speaker 1: in this episode and we're going to talk about him.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I second that notion to a degree, but we will
- 7:29Speaker 1: talk about that. Bill's fan seventy eight eighty three says,
- 7:32Speaker 1: in my opinion, drafting Caleb elarms Or is a shot
- 7:35Speaker 1: of confidence towards Dorny and Williams and a warning shot
- 7:38Speaker 1: for Terrel Bernard. Dorry is the only downhill thumper we have.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Caleb elarms Or is similar to Terrel Bernard. Yeah, it's interesting.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I think I think Or has more no rhyme scheme
- 7:52Speaker 1: intended there, more of like the short range juice and
- 7:55Speaker 1: ability that kind of Dornian has. I think he's got
- 7:59Speaker 1: more downhill thump them Bernard, even though he doesn't necessarily
- 8:03Speaker 1: have the length of the frame that Dorrian Williams has,
- 8:06Speaker 1: but he's got more downhill thump to him, gets off
- 8:08Speaker 1: blocks a little better, but he also struggles a bit
- 8:11Speaker 1: in coverage, more so like Dorian does than Bernard does.
- 8:15Speaker 1: It's a weird We're going to talk again spoiler about
- 8:17Speaker 1: Dorian Williams in this episode and the linebacker position as
- 8:19Speaker 1: a whole. It's a weird. It's a weird grouping for
- 8:25Speaker 1: the Bills this year in terms of skill sets and
- 8:27Speaker 1: players and how everyone kind of compliments one another and
- 8:30Speaker 1: where they are is a group, especially if you juxtapose
- 8:34Speaker 1: it with what Leonards linebackers have looked like in the past,
- 8:37Speaker 1: especially and specifically at Wisconsin. We're gonna get into that tonight,
- 8:41Speaker 1: Kayleby arms Or is an interesting one. And yeah, especially
- 8:44Speaker 1: you know you've got Dorian Williams going into the last
- 8:46Speaker 1: year of his contract. We're going to talk about Dorian
- 8:50Speaker 1: in this episode. RJ says, I mean, any of the
- 8:53Speaker 1: group of Land and Jackson, t J. Sanders, Dwayne Carter,
- 8:56Speaker 1: Dorian Williams could step up. It would really help a lot.
- 8:59Speaker 1: That is where we will start. I'm going to start
- 9:02Speaker 1: with TJ. Sanders and or Land and Jackson, and it
- 9:06Speaker 1: starts from a positional standpoint from the odd front aspect. Again,
- 9:12Speaker 1: I think that this conversation I think has been misconstrued
- 9:14Speaker 1: in a lot of ways. The whole like odd front
- 9:17Speaker 1: multiplicity up front, the positions guys are going to be
- 9:20Speaker 1: in the movement based defense, the lack of a traditional
- 9:24Speaker 1: nose tackle, I think a lot of that has gotten
- 9:27Speaker 1: blown out of proportion and misconstrued in a lot of ways.
- 9:31Speaker 1: But tying into that again, Bill's defense is going to
- 9:35Speaker 1: have an odd front look as their base and within that,
- 9:40Speaker 1: you know, again, I'm just gonna is the simplest way
- 9:42Speaker 1: to put it. You know, you need two, you know,
- 9:44Speaker 1: three four defensive ends. You need two four eyes potentially
- 9:51Speaker 1: right and right now, if we're looking at the four
- 9:53Speaker 1: eye rotation for the Buffalo Bills, we are looking at
- 9:56Speaker 1: that from the perspective of at Oliver being the starter
- 10:01Speaker 1: on one side, which is very fine, and then you're
- 10:04Speaker 1: kicking it into Dion Walker who's at the nose, and
- 10:07Speaker 1: then someone's gonna have to rotate with him. And then
- 10:09Speaker 1: the other defensive end spot is right now between TJ.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Sanders and Land and Jackson, maybe Dwayne Carter plays there,
- 10:16Speaker 1: But it sounds like Dwane Carter's gonna get some burner
- 10:18Speaker 1: opportunity at nose with Walker, which we're gonna talk about
- 10:21Speaker 1: a little bit. But I lumped Sanders and Jackson together
- 10:27Speaker 1: because of where I think they're each gonna play. I
- 10:29Speaker 1: think they're you know, I've been saying this about Land
- 10:32Speaker 1: and Jackson pretty much all off season that I thought
- 10:35Speaker 1: the best move for him, especially with this new defense,
- 10:37Speaker 1: was put on some more weight and kick inside and
- 10:42Speaker 1: play four I Again, part of this is tied to
- 10:45Speaker 1: my evaluation for him coming out of Arkansas. I did
- 10:48Speaker 1: not love him as a prospect, coming out as an
- 10:51Speaker 1: edge prospect, high cut, stiffness in his lower body, lack
- 10:55Speaker 1: of fluid in his lower body, lack of change of direction.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Really just a straight line and that's it type of guy.
- 11:02Speaker 1: But he played the run well, he used his length well,
- 11:05Speaker 1: he would grind, he would battle. I did think he
- 11:07Speaker 1: had some violence and some nastiness to his game. And
- 11:12Speaker 1: you know, he he did play four eye at Arkansas
- 11:16Speaker 1: and played a little heavier at times too. Now, granted,
- 11:18Speaker 1: I'll be and albeit in kind of a different defense.
- 11:20Speaker 1: You know, you can play the four eye and still
- 11:22Speaker 1: be more of a movement guy and be the container,
- 11:24Speaker 1: the forced player than you are the person holding up
- 11:26Speaker 1: in the b gap at the point of attack between
- 11:28Speaker 1: a garden tackle. But I thought his play style would
- 11:31Speaker 1: translate best to hey, put on some weight, kick inside.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I don't think you're gonna be, you know, a two
- 11:37Speaker 1: point stance edge guy coming off the outside. I guess
- 11:41Speaker 1: grant maybe he could be a heavy one at times,
- 11:43Speaker 1: but I thought his best move would put on some weight,
- 11:46Speaker 1: go in there, go inside. Right, You're looking at either
- 11:49Speaker 1: him doing that or TJ Sanders being the answer at
- 11:54Speaker 1: four eye. Now, TJ Sanders is naturally heavier already than
- 11:57Speaker 1: Landon Jackson. The issue with TJ. Sands is and I'm
- 12:01Speaker 1: not out on TJ. Sanders as a player. And I
- 12:04Speaker 1: see this question from Adam saying should we expect anything
- 12:07Speaker 1: from t J Sanders this year? Like, are you excited
- 12:10Speaker 1: quote unquote about him at all for this upcoming season.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I'm not out on Sanders, but I do think his
- 12:19Speaker 1: fit in this defense is questionable. I still think his
- 12:24Speaker 1: best he's best suited for the defense the Bills had
- 12:27Speaker 1: last year. From I think a high end rotational standpoint.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I didn't know if TJ. Sanders was ever going to
- 12:31Speaker 1: be like a true starting three tech, but I thought, hey,
- 12:34Speaker 1: you get him in this Bills defense. He's the backup
- 12:36Speaker 1: three to Ed Oliver. He's playing in a high rotational role.
- 12:39Speaker 1: I think he could be like a defensive tackle three,
- 12:42Speaker 1: you know, or a super high end four, depending on
- 12:45Speaker 1: who the three are above him. In an even front defense.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I think he's more built to be a one gap,
- 12:50Speaker 1: upfield penetrating type of guy. I think there's questions about
- 12:56Speaker 1: him at the point of attack and I and then
- 13:01Speaker 1: that was even in the even front stuff before. But
- 13:05Speaker 1: there are some flashes on tape last year where it's like, okay,
- 13:08Speaker 1: you know, he plays a little gap in a half,
- 13:10Speaker 1: he uses his length or what he has of it,
- 13:13Speaker 1: kind of plays in his primary, falls back into the secondary.
- 13:16Speaker 1: He uses his hands, he flashes a bit, he moves.
- 13:18Speaker 1: I'm not completely out on TJ. Sanders. I think he
- 13:21Speaker 1: has a chance to succeed in this defense. I still
- 13:23Speaker 1: think he's better suited for the previous defense the Bills
- 13:26Speaker 1: were in. But both guys have questions around them, both
- 13:29Speaker 1: Landon Jackson and t J. Sanders, So if one of
- 13:32Speaker 1: them could see a jump That would be great because
- 13:35Speaker 1: I think the opposite four hye spot of Ed Oliver
- 13:38Speaker 1: is a big question mark. Like right now, if you're
- 13:39Speaker 1: playing that five down look right where you've got your
- 13:42Speaker 1: two bookends are going to be Chubb and Group, and
- 13:46Speaker 1: then you kick it inside and it's Ed Oliver and
- 13:50Speaker 1: who's the other one we don't know, and then it
- 13:52Speaker 1: knows it's Dean Walker. Right. I'm just breaking it down
- 13:54Speaker 1: off of you know, the quote unquote starters if you're
- 13:56Speaker 1: going out with an opening day lineup, But so who's
- 13:59Speaker 1: that other guy inside one of the book ends opposite
- 14:03Speaker 1: of at Oliver? Is it t J. Sanders? Is it
- 14:05Speaker 1: Landon Jackson? That's an important position. And then those guys
- 14:08Speaker 1: in Jim Lennard's defense Wisconsin would also kind of kick
- 14:11Speaker 1: inside and play one of the defensive tackle spots in
- 14:15Speaker 1: the four down fronts and the sub package looks and
- 14:18Speaker 1: all that kind of stuff. So again, there is going
- 14:20Speaker 1: to be multiplicity. There is going to be a movement
- 14:23Speaker 1: style based defense. I think TJ. Sanders can work in
- 14:25Speaker 1: that regard, right. I think we are going to see
- 14:29Speaker 1: a lot of slants, a lot of movement. I see
- 14:31Speaker 1: the comment there for Zanye Durant, Sure, you know, maybe,
- 14:34Speaker 1: I just think it's a lot to expect Zane Durant
- 14:36Speaker 1: to come in and be the starter opposite of at Oliver.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I think he's more of the rotational guy behind at
- 14:43Speaker 1: Oliver that gives you some juice and pop. And so
- 14:45Speaker 1: you know your top two rotation, it's Ed and Durant
- 14:49Speaker 1: behind him, and then Sanders and Jackson. Sure, maybe Zane Durant,
- 14:53Speaker 1: you know, jumps one of those guys in the rotation.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I just think it's a lot to expect of him
- 14:58Speaker 1: to be a starter right out the gate, especially with
- 15:01Speaker 1: how he struggles at the point of attack and how
- 15:03Speaker 1: short his arms are. And again tying into all this, right,
- 15:08Speaker 1: this is going to be a movement based defense. We
- 15:11Speaker 1: know that. And when I say movement, I mean you know, slants, stunts,
- 15:17Speaker 1: simulated pressures, creepers, you know, guys dropping off the line
- 15:20Speaker 1: of scrimmage in the coverage a little bit, guys from
- 15:22Speaker 1: the second level rushing showing that pre snap, not showing it,
- 15:26Speaker 1: and bringing it post snap. All different kinds of stunts
- 15:30Speaker 1: and games. Two man games, three man games, a lot
- 15:32Speaker 1: of movements, right, stunting, slashing, movement based things. That being said,
- 15:38Speaker 1: there is going to be point of attack play in
- 15:40Speaker 1: this defense, and there needs to be point of attack
- 15:43Speaker 1: play in this defense. I put some stuff out on
- 15:45Speaker 1: Twitter and Blue Sky at the end of last week.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I wanted to actually show it in this episode, but
- 15:51Speaker 1: YouTube is crazy with showing college football tape and I'm
- 15:54Speaker 1: not trying to get copyright strikes. I put some clips
- 15:59Speaker 1: out from the Wisconsin game in twenty twenty one, you know,
- 16:03Speaker 1: with their defense run by Jim Leonard, playing against Notre Dame,
- 16:06Speaker 1: and I showed a bunch of early downplays from the
- 16:08Speaker 1: first two quarters because early downplays situationally very similar, and
- 16:12Speaker 1: what you saw was you saw some movement stuff. You
- 16:15Speaker 1: also saw a lot of point of attack play, a
- 16:18Speaker 1: lot of gap and a half, a lot of you know,
- 16:22Speaker 1: react attack instead of just attack react. I think we've
- 16:27Speaker 1: gotten a lot. I think the whole movement based nature
- 16:30Speaker 1: of the Bills defense and Jim Leonard not using a
- 16:32Speaker 1: traditional nose has gotten thrown a little out of whack,
- 16:35Speaker 1: especially even using like Keanu Benton as the nose tackle example,
- 16:39Speaker 1: who is you know, one of the best defensive linemen
- 16:41Speaker 1: and players that he had at Wisconsin. Keanu Benton was sick.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I think people misconstrue a good nose being heavy and big.
- 16:50Speaker 1: You don't have to be huge. Granted, Keanu Benton was
- 16:52Speaker 1: like listed at three hundred and seventeen pounds, and yes,
- 16:54Speaker 1: Keanu Benton could move, but Keanu Benton also played. You know,
- 16:58Speaker 1: he did movement stuff, like he'd loop, he'd be the
- 17:01Speaker 1: contained pressure guy. You know, he'd spike, he'd play a game,
- 17:04Speaker 1: they would do all that stuff. But he'd also play
- 17:07Speaker 1: at the point of attack, like he'd meet a center
- 17:09Speaker 1: or he'd meet a guarden. He'd drop the knee and
- 17:12Speaker 1: he'd be the anchor guy. At the point of attack.
- 17:13Speaker 1: He'd play gap. In a half, he would two gap.
- 17:16Speaker 1: He would have to play react attack instead of attack
- 17:19Speaker 1: react where you're just putting your ears back and getting
- 17:21Speaker 1: up field. You would see some of that, but you
- 17:23Speaker 1: also saw a point of attack play. I think the
- 17:26Speaker 1: idea that the Bills defense is going to be a
- 17:28Speaker 1: movement based defense is true. Again, You're gonna get a
- 17:32Speaker 1: lot of movement and activity from Jim Leonard. You will
- 17:34Speaker 1: get that, which has its own pros and cons, which
- 17:37Speaker 1: we've talked about a bit throughout the offseason. On the show.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I don't want to get on too much of a tangent,
- 17:42Speaker 1: but we are gonna see movement. You're still gonna need
- 17:46Speaker 1: to see point of attack play right, And that's where
- 17:49Speaker 1: my question comes in. For Dion Walker at NOS and TJ.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Sanders at the four eye spot right, you need somebody
- 17:58Speaker 1: at that four eyes who can handle a double team
- 18:02Speaker 1: and not get displaced, who can handle a base block
- 18:05Speaker 1: and not get blown back, who cannot get washed down
- 18:08Speaker 1: super ly easily and kind of laterally displaced or horizontally displaced,
- 18:12Speaker 1: I should say, and that happened to CJ. Sanders a
- 18:14Speaker 1: bunch last year. Landon Jackson, even though he's a little lighter,
- 18:18Speaker 1: I just think his play style could suit him a
- 18:21Speaker 1: little bit better to play at the point of attack
- 18:23Speaker 1: than Sanders. But I also think his frame and being
- 18:26Speaker 1: high cut, it's not going to give him a lot
- 18:28Speaker 1: of bend. He is going to be more stiff and
- 18:30Speaker 1: rigid in his body, which isn't going to help him
- 18:32Speaker 1: be able to displace any force that comes at him.
- 18:36Speaker 1: So he might get knocked down some gaps, he might
- 18:38Speaker 1: get blown off the ball. I have more questions from
- 18:41Speaker 1: a point of attack standpoint with both of these guys.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Sanders I think can do the movement stuff. Jackson I
- 18:48Speaker 1: think could to a degree. Sanders I think would be
- 18:50Speaker 1: better with that type of stuff. But what's happening from
- 18:56Speaker 1: a point of attack standpoint. You can play all the
- 18:58Speaker 1: games you want, and I think they will. They're gonna
- 19:00Speaker 1: do a lot. I think a lot. There's gonna be
- 19:03Speaker 1: a lot on Jim Leonard's play this year to make
- 19:04Speaker 1: this defense succeed. Through the sum of its parts and
- 19:08Speaker 1: him making the right calls at the right time. They're
- 19:10Speaker 1: gonna win more with scheme and structure. They're gonna win
- 19:13Speaker 1: more with the x's and o's than they will just
- 19:15Speaker 1: the strake Jimmy's and Joe's. But at a certain point
- 19:20Speaker 1: you need to be able to have some ass kickers
- 19:22Speaker 1: up front who are able to dig their feet into
- 19:25Speaker 1: the dirt and stay rooted to the ground and knock
- 19:27Speaker 1: get knocked off the ball. And I don't know if
- 19:30Speaker 1: the Bills have that enough up front. And so if
- 19:34Speaker 1: Sanders or Jackson could take a jump, that would help
- 19:38Speaker 1: quell some of those worries. Right, If one of these
- 19:40Speaker 1: guys can be a point of attack guy or just
- 19:42Speaker 1: dominate so much from a movement standpoint. Then it comes
- 19:45Speaker 1: up the works and we're playing a high variance game.
- 19:48Speaker 1: One of these guys being able to solidify themselves a
- 19:51Speaker 1: starting spot in this roster or on this defense, I
- 19:55Speaker 1: should say, would go such a long way, not just
- 19:57Speaker 1: for twenty twenty six, but then again talking forward and
- 20:00Speaker 1: going beyond in twenty twenty seven. Both of these guys
- 20:03Speaker 1: were earlyish picks in the twenty twenty five draft. It
- 20:06Speaker 1: would be nice if in their second year they showed
- 20:09Speaker 1: you some consistency or some flashes that made you go like, okay, cool,
- 20:12Speaker 1: like we have an answer for twenty twenty seven and
- 20:15Speaker 1: an answer for twenty twenty eight. Landon Jackson of course,
- 20:18Speaker 1: coming off of significant injury from last year that caused
- 20:20Speaker 1: him to miss the whole season, and then that tied
- 20:22Speaker 1: into TJ Sanders a little bit. TJ Sanders got hurt,
- 20:26Speaker 1: but he's playing defensive end because there's injuries at the
- 20:29Speaker 1: defensive end and edge spot, so Sanders is playing out
- 20:33Speaker 1: of position, trying to learn how to play in the NFL.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Like Sanders I think had a wonky rookie season because
- 20:41Speaker 1: he got hurt, and then he's also playing out of position.
- 20:44Speaker 1: What was asked of him what he was doing. I
- 20:46Speaker 1: still don't even think it was a true evaluation of
- 20:48Speaker 1: what he could be. And now you're going into a
- 20:50Speaker 1: new defense. I think Sanders is a big question mark.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Jackson is obviously a bigger question mark because he got hurt.
- 20:56Speaker 1: He's coming off an injury, and we don't really have
- 20:58Speaker 1: an NFL regular season sample size for him. But then again,
- 21:01Speaker 1: Sanders is a big question too because he got hurt,
- 21:04Speaker 1: but then he played, but he's playing on a position
- 21:06Speaker 1: and what he wasn't accustomed to. And you're looking right
- 21:10Speaker 1: now on paper at one of these guys being your
- 21:14Speaker 1: starter in the odd front looks and then the even
- 21:17Speaker 1: front stuff. It's fine, you can kick TJ. Sanders in
- 21:20Speaker 1: and let him rotate on the interior and do stuff
- 21:22Speaker 1: there in the four down front like you did before
- 21:24Speaker 1: with Sean McDermott, Like that's not a problem, although again
- 21:27Speaker 1: he still needs to prove himself there in that regard.
- 21:31Speaker 1: So I just think it's it starts here with me,
- 21:35Speaker 1: It starts up front. Sanders or Jackson being able to
- 21:38Speaker 1: one of them or both of them being able to
- 21:40Speaker 1: take a jump that means you get a solidified starter
- 21:43Speaker 1: up front. You get an answer for twenty twenty six,
- 21:46Speaker 1: and you get an answer then for twenty twenty seven
- 21:48Speaker 1: and twenty twenty eight, which would be huge. The Bills
- 21:51Speaker 1: are still cap strapped. It's gonna happen a little bit
- 21:53Speaker 1: next year. You need as much cost effective young talent
- 21:58Speaker 1: and cost effective players as you can, and it would
- 22:02Speaker 1: be great to start to have more of that twenty
- 22:04Speaker 1: twenty five draft class start to hit it, start to
- 22:06Speaker 1: kick in, prove its worth, and be able to be
- 22:09Speaker 1: something that you can hang your hat on going forward.
- 22:12Speaker 1: And again, I think this is something that could work
- 22:14Speaker 1: out good for Landon Jackson. I don't know if I
- 22:16Speaker 1: ever'd be starting caliber up front at that spot, but
- 22:18Speaker 1: I think he could be a fine rotational guy in
- 22:20Speaker 1: some spurts. I wasn't a huge fan of the pick
- 22:22Speaker 1: to begin with, but I think this defensive scheme move
- 22:25Speaker 1: could work out a bit for him. Sanders, I think
- 22:28Speaker 1: is wonky in this defense versus what he was before
- 22:30Speaker 1: in McDermott's, but you know, his rookie season as a
- 22:33Speaker 1: whole was wonky, so it's kind of almost like a
- 22:36Speaker 1: wash in terms of frustration. Bump bump. Let's go back
- 22:41Speaker 1: to some comments Aiden says which Sabers player would be
- 22:44Speaker 1: most capable to start at a position of need for
- 22:47Speaker 1: the Buffalo Bills. Oh, man, I would He's he's small,
- 22:57Speaker 1: but I'll take I'll take Zach Benson and I'll put
- 22:59Speaker 1: him at four. Iye, I just put the dog there
- 23:01Speaker 1: and let him do work. Bump bum bum come in here.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Sanders is currently penciled into a starting spot. Landon has
- 23:10Speaker 1: to add weight and is coming off an injury as
- 23:12Speaker 1: well as just being a rotation guy at best. Sanders
- 23:14Speaker 1: has way more pressure in my opinion. Yeah, I think
- 23:17Speaker 1: that's kind of fair. I don't know who has more pressure.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I just think they both have questions around them because
- 23:22Speaker 1: I think Sanders had some more flashes than he got
- 23:25Speaker 1: credit for last year. But I don't think his tape
- 23:27Speaker 1: was overly good. But again, he was playing out a
- 23:29Speaker 1: position a bunch and coming off an injury. It's just
- 23:32Speaker 1: a lot of wonkiness. R J says, I'm trying to
- 23:38Speaker 1: think of the new quote unquote based defense as a
- 23:40Speaker 1: five to two four. We are just gaining a nose
- 23:42Speaker 1: tackle during a high percentage rundown. Yeah, something's kind of
- 23:45Speaker 1: what you're looking at, like from an odd front standpoint.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Just because you have five on that front doesn't mean
- 23:49Speaker 1: you'll bring all five, right, Like Leonard will show five,
- 23:52Speaker 1: drop one off the line, which is what you do
- 23:54Speaker 1: in three four defenses a bunch anyway, right, show five down,
- 23:56Speaker 1: then you drop one of those guys off the edge,
- 23:58Speaker 1: So you're still only rushing four. But that whole idea
- 24:01Speaker 1: of who's your fourth rusher, who's dropping, how many guys
- 24:05Speaker 1: are dropping, who's a rush player, who's a dropper, where
- 24:08Speaker 1: are they dropping to what coverage is playing behind them?
- 24:12Speaker 1: It just leads to more games that you could play
- 24:14Speaker 1: with the offense and picture changes after there. RJ says,
- 24:18Speaker 1: watch being trying to make Landy Jackson plays no play
- 24:20Speaker 1: nose tackle, and then Noah says Carter will be the
- 24:22Speaker 1: nose tackle. I don't. We're gonna talk about that a
- 24:24Speaker 1: little bit. Argis say is extremely nervous that Carter, who
- 24:27Speaker 1: has issues getting blown off the line, will now have
- 24:29Speaker 1: the responsibility of not being blown off the line. Yeah,
- 24:33Speaker 1: that's that's fair. That's fair. Roy says it wouldn't surprise
- 24:37Speaker 1: me this defense finishes in the bottom third of the
- 24:40Speaker 1: league defending the run. Again. I think Leonard will get
- 24:45Speaker 1: them to be more middle of the pack. But again,
- 24:47Speaker 1: I do think it's going to be a heavy lift
- 24:49Speaker 1: for Leonard. From a scheme instructure standpoint, cam moy says,
- 24:53Speaker 1: Mathis is my sneaky pick for making a positive splash
- 24:56Speaker 1: for the twenty twenty six Bills. That's super funny, and
- 25:00Speaker 1: I'll use that to just segue into our next example. Here,
- 25:05Speaker 1: the next Buffalo Bills player that could use jump in
- 25:08Speaker 1: twenty twenty six. I used him as the example, but
- 25:10Speaker 1: it doesn't necessarily have to be him, so I used
- 25:12Speaker 1: it or this this segment here, Fidarium mathis slash anyone
- 25:18Speaker 1: at nose tackle or interior defensive line. I've talked about
- 25:22Speaker 1: it all off season. I'm kind of sick of talking
- 25:24Speaker 1: about it with how much I've talked about it, But
- 25:29Speaker 1: I think the Bills need an ass kicker at nose
- 25:31Speaker 1: tackle upfront to play in conjunction with, and in rotation with,
- 25:35Speaker 1: and in tandem with Dean Walker. Now this could be
- 25:40Speaker 1: Frederium Mathis, This could be Zion Log, This could somehow
- 25:45Speaker 1: be Dwayne Carter, anyone, anyone Bueller. I could just help
- 25:51Speaker 1: on the interior. I gain someone said it earlier. Just
- 25:56Speaker 1: being doesn't value that spot or that role. I guess
- 26:01Speaker 1: you know being has talked about it for years, right Like,
- 26:03Speaker 1: it's easy to find this role in free agency. They're cheap,
- 26:07Speaker 1: they don't cost a lot. You can find it in
- 26:09Speaker 1: the back end of the draft. And here we sit
- 26:11Speaker 1: continuing to not get that role and not get that
- 26:13Speaker 1: skill set as of right now penciled in behind Dion
- 26:17Speaker 1: Walker for like the second string or rotational depth, meaning
- 26:21Speaker 1: they're going to see snaps even if it's only ten
- 26:23Speaker 1: to fifteen or whatever. It's either Fredarium Mathis or Zion
- 26:27Speaker 1: Lope right now for this Buffalo Bill's defense when you
- 26:31Speaker 1: look at the nose tackle spot. No disrespect to either
- 26:34Speaker 1: of them. I don't think Fedarian Mathis or Zion log
- 26:37Speaker 1: should be seeing meaningful snaps for a playoff caliber team,
- 26:43Speaker 1: especially one that has had issue stopping the run. Again. Walker,
- 26:51Speaker 1: even though he's a mountain of a dude, as we've
- 26:53Speaker 1: discussed before, is more of a finesse player. That doesn't
- 26:56Speaker 1: mean he's soft, that doesn't mean he's not physical. It
- 26:58Speaker 1: means his game is built more towards let me quick
- 27:02Speaker 1: swim a guy, let me penetrate real fast, let me
- 27:04Speaker 1: hit a guy with a club and get into the backfield.
- 27:07Speaker 1: He plays more like Ed Oliver than he does Vita Vea,
- 27:11Speaker 1: even though he's closer to being Vita Vea size right,
- 27:15Speaker 1: So that's Walker's game. I do think he can hold
- 27:19Speaker 1: up to a decent degree at the point of attack,
- 27:22Speaker 1: but that's not the type of guy that he is.
- 27:24Speaker 1: And he's huge, he's tall. He doesn't have a lot
- 27:27Speaker 1: of bend. That's just his size and frame and how
- 27:29Speaker 1: he's built. Although he has lost some weight apparently, I'm
- 27:32Speaker 1: interested to see what kind of shape he comes into
- 27:34Speaker 1: camp and if there's some more flexibility to his game
- 27:37Speaker 1: in addition to the weight loss. He's just not gonna
- 27:40Speaker 1: be able to bend. You know. Jpacosta call to compared
- 27:42Speaker 1: him to the Iron Giant I think last year or
- 27:44Speaker 1: earlier this offseason. I think that just makes so much
- 27:47Speaker 1: sense for who he is. It's hard to be six
- 27:50Speaker 1: seven and get low and bend and drop the knee, right.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Guys are gonna get under you. Guys are gonna be
- 27:55Speaker 1: able to displace you and move you. Its heart, and
- 27:59Speaker 1: I also don't want Dion Walker living in that role
- 28:01Speaker 1: on the interior. I don't want him having to play
- 28:03Speaker 1: all his snaps at nose and having to deal with
- 28:06Speaker 1: everybody banging into him and knocking him off the ball
- 28:08Speaker 1: or trying to knock him off the ball. I want
- 28:10Speaker 1: to line him up at nose. I want to line
- 28:12Speaker 1: him up at four I I want to line him
- 28:14Speaker 1: up in a five. I want to put him in
- 28:15Speaker 1: a two point stance off the edge. I want to
- 28:18Speaker 1: move him. He's a dancing bear in in the in
- 28:23Speaker 1: the body of a mountain. I want to use that.
- 28:25Speaker 1: I want to unlock that. And I thought, you know again,
- 28:28Speaker 1: I recognize Brandon being obviously potentially does not feel the
- 28:32Speaker 1: same way. I am continuing to say what I want.
- 28:36Speaker 1: I think that role is needed in this defense. And
- 28:40Speaker 1: for those saying like, oh, you know, Jim Leonard never
- 28:42Speaker 1: used a traditional nose at Wisconsin, you still are going
- 28:48Speaker 1: to have to hold up at the point of attack
- 28:50Speaker 1: in this defense. This defense is not pure movement based
- 28:53Speaker 1: and for the whole like non traditional nose at Wisconsin,
- 28:56Speaker 1: Keanu Benton is like like three hundred and fifteen three
- 29:00Speaker 1: twenty pounds. That's still pretty big for a nose tackle
- 29:02Speaker 1: in today's football, especially for college and Keanu Benton, though
- 29:06Speaker 1: he could penetrate though he could move. He also held
- 29:10Speaker 1: up at the point of attack. He also played react attack,
- 29:13Speaker 1: where you know he's keen off the guard or keen
- 29:16Speaker 1: off the center and making contact, you know, screws on,
- 29:19Speaker 1: screws of the helmet, getting both hands there, feeling or
- 29:22Speaker 1: seeing that double coming from somebody else, dropping the knee,
- 29:25Speaker 1: reducing his surface area, gumming things up at the point
- 29:27Speaker 1: of attack. You need that in your nose, just like
- 29:30Speaker 1: you need that in your four eyes. I think the
- 29:33Speaker 1: Bills can do the movement stuff up front. I think
- 29:35Speaker 1: it's fine to be that. I don't think it was
- 29:37Speaker 1: the easiest thing in the world to answer all these
- 29:39Speaker 1: roster questions this offseason, given the draft capital and the
- 29:43Speaker 1: free and the financial capital they had in free agency.
- 29:46Speaker 1: But the Bills have not addressed this position. And I again,
- 29:53Speaker 1: I not to be rude or disrespectful. I just you
- 29:56Speaker 1: can't be a serious playoff defense who struggled against the
- 30:00Speaker 1: last year and we're one of the worst teams to
- 30:02Speaker 1: try to stop the run historically last year. And then
- 30:06Speaker 1: you're going in knowing that, like Fedarium Mathis or Zion Low,
- 30:09Speaker 1: we're gonna need to eat snaps for you like that.
- 30:11Speaker 1: That's your that's your point of attack player at nos
- 30:16Speaker 1: that that just worries me. And then again even more so,
- 30:19Speaker 1: God forbid dion Walker. Like like last year healthy worked
- 30:24Speaker 1: out well, Let's not forget he had like a he
- 30:27Speaker 1: has a spinal or lower back syndrome that kind of
- 30:29Speaker 1: messed him up a little bit. He's had some injuries.
- 30:31Speaker 1: What happens if dion Walker goes down? What are you doing?
- 30:35Speaker 1: At knows you're playing Fadarium, Mathis and zion Low like together.
- 30:40Speaker 1: That's just scary. Like I you need a strong ass
- 30:46Speaker 1: kicker point of attack guy to play in conjunction with
- 30:51Speaker 1: dion Walker. And yes, it looks like Brandon Bean doesn't
- 30:55Speaker 1: feel that way based on what we've seen this year
- 30:56Speaker 1: in last year, and maybe Jim Leonard doesn't feel that way.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Maybe Leonard did want more of a you know, ass
- 31:02Speaker 1: kicker type of nose and they just weren't able to
- 31:04Speaker 1: make it happen. I don't know what happens behind the scenes.
- 31:07Speaker 1: I'm just telling you I think they need that role.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Doesn't mean they're screwed if they don't get it, but
- 31:14Speaker 1: I do think they need that role. And the whole
- 31:17Speaker 1: conversation of like, oh, Jim Leonard doesn't need a big
- 31:19Speaker 1: guy on the interior. He doesn't need a big nose.
- 31:22Speaker 1: You know, he never used the traditional nose. I think
- 31:25Speaker 1: that that argument is misleading, especially when people use Keanu
- 31:29Speaker 1: Benton as the example, because Keanu Benton was a good
- 31:31Speaker 1: sized dude, but aside from that, he had the skill
- 31:34Speaker 1: set to play against the run on the interior. Even
- 31:37Speaker 1: DJ Jones in Denver people like, oh, look at the
- 31:39Speaker 1: defense the noses and the interior guys for Denver, like
- 31:42Speaker 1: DJ Jones and Malcolm Roach. Both of those guys can
- 31:46Speaker 1: handle some double teams and could drop the knee a
- 31:48Speaker 1: little bit and could anchor and could mitigate displacement. But
- 31:52Speaker 1: I also think it was very funny in the grander scheme,
- 31:54Speaker 1: the larger scheme of conversation when people use the Denver
- 31:57Speaker 1: Broncos examples for Jim Leonard to be like, oh, oh,
- 32:00Speaker 1: look at the Denver defense. They didn't have these big,
- 32:03Speaker 1: you know, ass kickers from an anchor standpoint, displaced mitigation,
- 32:07Speaker 1: they didn't have these traditional body types and that was fine.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I feel like all the Bills fans saying that forget
- 32:13Speaker 1: how much when the Bills played the Broncos all the
- 32:16Speaker 1: Bills fans were like, Hey, we can run all over
- 32:19Speaker 1: the Broncos. Hey, We're just gonna run right at Denver. Hey,
- 32:24Speaker 1: Zach Allen is a monster. You know what you can
- 32:26Speaker 1: do with Zach Allen Run right at him and knock
- 32:29Speaker 1: him off the ball. That happened to the Denver defense
- 32:33Speaker 1: a bunch in the playoff game two years ago when
- 32:36Speaker 1: the Bills beat the Broncos, and even this past year
- 32:39Speaker 1: when the Bills lost to the Broncos, the Bills ran
- 32:41Speaker 1: on the Broncos, the Bills sealed them, moved him, knocked
- 32:45Speaker 1: them off the ball, right, So I think you need
- 32:49Speaker 1: that role. I think people were kind of I think
- 32:52Speaker 1: this whole conversation of like the nose tackle, the movement
- 32:55Speaker 1: based defense, Jim Leonard defense, the body types, what each
- 32:58Speaker 1: role should be, how much they have to weigh the size.
- 33:01Speaker 1: I think so much of it is muddied and misconstrued
- 33:04Speaker 1: now and we've lost the plot with it. And honestly,
- 33:08Speaker 1: this could be a whole episode in and of itself.
- 33:11Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, for this role,
- 33:13Speaker 1: somebody again, even if you want to play movement based defense, fine,
- 33:18Speaker 1: someone needs to step up at nose behind Dion Walker.
- 33:22Speaker 1: It could be Fanarian Mathis, it could be Zion Log,
- 33:24Speaker 1: it could be Dwayne Carter. I don't have a lot
- 33:27Speaker 1: of faith in Carter, especially just because his game was
- 33:32Speaker 1: never built towards like displacement, mitigation and being an anchor.
- 33:35Speaker 1: He was at his best as like a two hundred
- 33:37Speaker 1: and ninety mid two nineties pound defensive tackle at Duke,
- 33:41Speaker 1: where his game was all about upfield penetration. I thought
- 33:44Speaker 1: the Bills his rookie year did him a bit of
- 33:46Speaker 1: a disservice by trying to get him to play heavier
- 33:49Speaker 1: and then getting Austin Johnson to play lighter so they
- 33:52Speaker 1: could rotate both of those dudes at one tech and
- 33:55Speaker 1: three tech. I didn't think that made a lot of sense.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Austin Johnson was much better as a one tech, a
- 33:59Speaker 1: heavy type of dude. Dwayne Carter was much better as
- 34:02Speaker 1: a lighter penetrator, gap shooter, upfield type of dude. They
- 34:05Speaker 1: made Johnson play lighter and Carter play heavier, and I
- 34:08Speaker 1: think they middled them both out and made them both
- 34:11Speaker 1: met and Carter's coming off of major injury, so we'll
- 34:16Speaker 1: just see. I it would be great if they could
- 34:20Speaker 1: get an answer from Carter or Mathis or log somebody,
- 34:23Speaker 1: somebody needs to step up, and again it doesn't. I
- 34:26Speaker 1: don't think it's going to be this impactful role where
- 34:29Speaker 1: it's like, oh, we got to get this guy more snaps.
- 34:31Speaker 1: It just needs to be somebody who can be a
- 34:33Speaker 1: rotational body. So that's funny from Chris, Chris that I
- 34:38Speaker 1: got called a coward on Blue Sky. So now I'm here.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Well done, Chris, I appreciate you. That's in reference to
- 34:44Speaker 1: my post that I put out for every episode tweet
- 34:47Speaker 1: and Blue Sky post. That's funny. That took me on
- 34:50Speaker 1: my train of thought. Good job, Chris, well done, Thank you.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Thank you for being here too. Even if it's just
- 34:56Speaker 1: for ten to fifteen snaps, it's got to be somebody
- 34:59Speaker 1: that can give you, somebody who's not going to get
- 35:01Speaker 1: knocked around too much. And at this point too, with
- 35:04Speaker 1: the Bills defense, I'm just hoping from a run defense standpoint,
- 35:08Speaker 1: they just can't be bottom of the league again. The
- 35:10Speaker 1: issue with the Bills run defense last year especially was
- 35:13Speaker 1: just like it wasn't like that they were bad. They
- 35:15Speaker 1: were the worst or arguably the worst than like any metric.
- 35:18Speaker 1: And if you watch them on tape Advanced Metric. They
- 35:20Speaker 1: were just bad. If they can just be like middling bad,
- 35:23Speaker 1: like seventeen to twenty, that's fine. But if they can
- 35:26Speaker 1: just be like seventeen to fourteen, that would be great.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Just play in the middle, Just go from there and
- 35:32Speaker 1: do that. Use the scheme instructure and take care of it.
- 35:36Speaker 1: But especially with so much of what Jim Leonard does
- 35:38Speaker 1: that's good, the simulated pressures, the creeper pressures, getting his
- 35:43Speaker 1: defense off the field on third down. So much of
- 35:46Speaker 1: that is predicated on winning early downs, forcing the offense
- 35:51Speaker 1: into longer third and long more predictable, you know, straight
- 35:55Speaker 1: dropback situations on third down, so you can get into
- 35:58Speaker 1: your creepers, you can get into your simulated pressures, you
- 36:01Speaker 1: can get into all these this movement and game stuff
- 36:05Speaker 1: and really game up an offensive line and their protection
- 36:08Speaker 1: rules and attack the back attack, the tight end attack,
- 36:11Speaker 1: the open side attack, the closed side blitz, the formation,
- 36:14Speaker 1: all of these things. You can only do that if
- 36:17Speaker 1: you win on early downs, if you stop the run.
- 36:20Speaker 1: And Jim Leonard himself said this in his pressure when
- 36:24Speaker 1: he came onto the Bills, that it starts with stopping
- 36:29Speaker 1: the run. There's a multitude of comments from him going
- 36:32Speaker 1: back to Wisconsin and then going back going to this
- 36:34Speaker 1: press or two with the Bills of it starts with
- 36:36Speaker 1: stopping the run, like that's where everything starts for this defense.
- 36:40Speaker 1: And based on how they're built right now, the way
- 36:42Speaker 1: they're going to have to stop the run is with
- 36:44Speaker 1: scheme instructure. So again, Leonard might be able to call
- 36:46Speaker 1: an amazing game every single game and be able to
- 36:50Speaker 1: take care of it. The Bills might be able to
- 36:51Speaker 1: ride this movement style of defense and be able to
- 36:55Speaker 1: mitigate the run. And you can. It can work like that, right,
- 36:57Speaker 1: You can run run blitzes and run stunts, play games
- 37:01Speaker 1: and cut off certain aspects of the field and box
- 37:04Speaker 1: a run in and make a running back operate in
- 37:07Speaker 1: a foam move. That can work. But when you play movement,
- 37:11Speaker 1: it's it's risk reward. Right. If it's like trying to
- 37:13Speaker 1: steal a base, right, if you if you move on
- 37:16Speaker 1: the base pass, guess what, you might steal second base.
- 37:18Speaker 1: And now you just stole second base. You also might
- 37:20Speaker 1: get thrown out, and now you just cost yourself a
- 37:23Speaker 1: runner that was on base. If you call the wrong
- 37:25Speaker 1: blitz or the wrong game or the wrong movement up
- 37:28Speaker 1: front at the wrong time, gaps become alleys, alleys become
- 37:33Speaker 1: highways that buses can be driven through. It can get
- 37:37Speaker 1: problematic real fast. And again, if it balances out with
- 37:40Speaker 1: the variants. You know, if you give up a twelve
- 37:42Speaker 1: yard run here, but then you're creating like three negative
- 37:46Speaker 1: plays against the run after that, you can kind of
- 37:48Speaker 1: live with that ratio. It's just a matter of how
- 37:50Speaker 1: much give and take there will be if you play
- 37:53Speaker 1: that much movement. And again, even if you are a
- 37:55Speaker 1: movement based defense, which I do want to say again forever,
- 38:01Speaker 1: even if you're a movement based defense with Leonard's defense,
- 38:04Speaker 1: you still have to play at the point of attack.
- 38:06Speaker 1: You still need to able to be quote unquote stuff
- 38:08Speaker 1: the run or anchor and not get moved or driven
- 38:12Speaker 1: off the ball. Even if you're primarily a movement based defense,
- 38:15Speaker 1: there are going to be times where you're going to
- 38:19Speaker 1: have to play react attack instead of just pure penetrate.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Get up field, let me let me slant, let me stunt.
- 38:25Speaker 1: I'm looping, I'm spiking this. Two man game, three man game,
- 38:28Speaker 1: sim all this stuff, right, you still need to play
- 38:31Speaker 1: at the point of attack. You still need some ass
- 38:33Speaker 1: kickers up front who won't get moved, even if it's
- 38:36Speaker 1: just as a change up, right, I use these analogies
- 38:40Speaker 1: and metaphors all the time, whatever you want to call them.
- 38:43Speaker 1: If you got your fastball, that's great. You still need
- 38:45Speaker 1: to change up. You still need a secondary pitch. You
- 38:47Speaker 1: still need you know, a third pitch. You need to
- 38:49Speaker 1: change up, you need a slider. You need to be
- 38:50Speaker 1: able to throw them and locate them. That the offense
- 38:52Speaker 1: needs to have to account for that. And again, for
- 38:57Speaker 1: as much as Leonard's defense has movement, there's a ton
- 39:00Speaker 1: of tape for Leonards guys right handling, double teams, playing
- 39:06Speaker 1: at the point, attack, playing gap and a half two
- 39:09Speaker 1: gapping at times traditional you know, quote unquote three four
- 39:13Speaker 1: odd front stuff. And so within that, I don't want
- 39:17Speaker 1: Dion Walker having to live it knows all the time.
- 39:19Speaker 1: And even if he is, you still need a backup
- 39:22Speaker 1: to that spot. And so who's that backup going to be?
- 39:25Speaker 1: Is it Fanarian mathis is it zion Log? Is it
- 39:28Speaker 1: Dwayne Carter? Is it more of a movement base? Is
- 39:31Speaker 1: it some displacement mitigation and some run stuffing, you know,
- 39:35Speaker 1: people eater type stuff, space eater type stuff. Again, that
- 39:39Speaker 1: doesn't have to be a huge guy. It's more about
- 39:41Speaker 1: the skill set and the play style and block recognition
- 39:44Speaker 1: and all those things. So we'll see. But somebody's got
- 39:46Speaker 1: to step up because it can't just be Dion Walker.
- 39:49Speaker 1: And then, man, even if the guy behind him is
- 39:52Speaker 1: only seeing ten to fifteen STAPs a game, those are
- 39:55Speaker 1: going to be important because those early noun snaps are
- 39:57Speaker 1: going to matter. And then on top of it, what
- 40:00Speaker 1: happens if Walker goes down, Then all of a sudden,
- 40:02Speaker 1: the nose tackle spot becomes a huge, huge, huge, huge,
- 40:05Speaker 1: huge point. I'm gonna work backwards here, Bill Fan says,
- 40:12Speaker 1: or we running vance Joseph's defense or Leonards? Are we
- 40:14Speaker 1: confident in Leonard's ability to install the defense? What to expect?
- 40:17Speaker 1: I am confident in Leonard's ability to install the defense.
- 40:20Speaker 1: In terms of what defense Leonard's gonna run, that's a
- 40:24Speaker 1: big question, right. I do think there are some similarities
- 40:26Speaker 1: between him and Joseph, but it really comes down to
- 40:30Speaker 1: what we're actually gonna see. You know, how much of
- 40:32Speaker 1: it is even how much of it is the Wisconsin stuff?
- 40:36Speaker 1: Is that the Denver stuff? You know, the coverage thing,
- 40:38Speaker 1: so on and so forth. I think the For me,
- 40:43Speaker 1: I think there are gonna be some more similarities I'm
- 40:45Speaker 1: expecting to the structure and the calls of Wisconsin up front,
- 40:53Speaker 1: but tying in more of the coverage elements and pieces
- 40:56Speaker 1: from Vince Joseph. I think, and I'm basing that just
- 40:59Speaker 1: off of the body types that Leonard had at linebacker,
- 41:03Speaker 1: outside linebacker, and even inside, like the versatility and the
- 41:06Speaker 1: dynamic nature that he had at linebacker. The Bills don't
- 41:09Speaker 1: have that, So I don't think he can necessarily do
- 41:12Speaker 1: all the Wisconsin stuff that he did because they don't
- 41:15Speaker 1: have that dynamic group. You don't have Noah Berks and
- 41:20Speaker 1: Van Ginkel and Herbig and Chanl and even Sanborn, but
- 41:24Speaker 1: these guys where it was like Zach Bond, but these
- 41:27Speaker 1: guys who are like I can line up as d
- 41:29Speaker 1: man on a line of scrimmage in an on front
- 41:31Speaker 1: and play the run and be a force player. I
- 41:33Speaker 1: can beat up a tight end. I can actually rush
- 41:36Speaker 1: in a four down front and go one on one
- 41:38Speaker 1: against a tackle. I could play off balls and inside
- 41:41Speaker 1: linebacker and cover and blitz. I can do all these things.
- 41:45Speaker 1: So we'll see. I think that's the big question. You know,
- 41:48Speaker 1: how much of it is the Rex Ryan stuff. How
- 41:51Speaker 1: much of it is the Justin Wilcox stuff. How much
- 41:53Speaker 1: of it is the Vance Joseph stuff. So we'll see,
- 41:57Speaker 1: we'll see, we'll see. I think that's a good That
- 41:59Speaker 1: is the questioned bum. RJ says this whole quote unquote,
- 42:07Speaker 1: we are not allowed to have a nose tackle slash
- 42:09Speaker 1: one tech is ridiculous. Issue being is causing those Carolina
- 42:12Speaker 1: teams head star and other nose tackles, so it makes
- 42:14Speaker 1: zero sense. Yeah, it's been interesting how they've talked about
- 42:17Speaker 1: how easy it is to get these guys and yet
- 42:19Speaker 1: they have not gotten any of those guys. Connor says,
- 42:23Speaker 1: Ed and Walker are good, but I don't know about
- 42:24Speaker 1: the rest of the group. Noah says, Bean is neglecting
- 42:27Speaker 1: this position and it's going to cost us Roy. Is
- 42:32Speaker 1: it that Bean feels that way or is it Leonard?
- 42:34Speaker 1: Maybe both this tied into the whole like not getting
- 42:36Speaker 1: a nose or a one tech. We don't know. I
- 42:39Speaker 1: definitely think Bean feels this way just because again a
- 42:43Speaker 1: different coaching staff and year after year they're not really
- 42:45Speaker 1: getting this role. Leonard, we don't know. He may have
- 42:50Speaker 1: pounded the table for a couple of free agents or
- 42:52Speaker 1: some draft guys that were more of a big bodied
- 42:55Speaker 1: or you know, stout type of player, even if it's
- 42:58Speaker 1: not a huge dude. But maybe he got overruled. We
- 43:01Speaker 1: don't know. Bom Bomb bomb bomb bum Slim saying, once
- 43:08Speaker 1: a wrist is broken, it's never the same. Carter had
- 43:10Speaker 1: the ligament issue as well. He's washed. We'll see. Walter says,
- 43:15Speaker 1: I struggled to get too I just struggled to get
- 43:17Speaker 1: too excited for this defensive line. In general, it just
- 43:19Speaker 1: feels like we're leaning too heavily on the scheme of
- 43:21Speaker 1: fixing our issues. I think that's a fair point. The
- 43:24Speaker 1: only caveat I will give is, even if they wanted
- 43:27Speaker 1: to revamp everything from a personnel standpoint, they didn't have
- 43:30Speaker 1: the funds to do it. In free agency. They did
- 43:34Speaker 1: have some draft capital to do it, but they still
- 43:37Speaker 1: didn't do it. My bigger issue is I think they
- 43:42Speaker 1: could have taken some of the money they spent and
- 43:44Speaker 1: allocated it towards different body types or positions. But again,
- 43:48Speaker 1: to play devil's advocate, we don't know. Maybe they tried
- 43:52Speaker 1: to sign John Franklin Myers and he didn't want to
- 43:54Speaker 1: come here. Maybe they offered the same money Tennessee did
- 43:56Speaker 1: and he turned it down. Maybe they tried to sign
- 43:58Speaker 1: sebast Of Joseph Day for the same money the Steelers
- 44:00Speaker 1: got him for and he turned it down. Maybe they
- 44:03Speaker 1: tried to sign Roy Lopez for the same money that
- 44:06Speaker 1: Arizona signed him for him maybe he wanted to go
- 44:08Speaker 1: to Arizona. There's just there's just so many variables that
- 44:12Speaker 1: we don't know. And again that's not the given excuse.
- 44:16Speaker 1: I just think that's the truth. But I do think,
- 44:18Speaker 1: as I mentioned even before I saw this comment, I
- 44:20Speaker 1: do think I do think it's on Leonard to do
- 44:23Speaker 1: more most of the heavy lifting for the defense this year.
- 44:25Speaker 1: I do think it is much more x As and
- 44:27Speaker 1: O's than Jimmy's and Joe's at this point, Zesti Smooth says,
- 44:33Speaker 1: is there a reasonable explanation for not picking up a
- 44:35Speaker 1: true nose tackling freeency of the draft. I'm all for
- 44:37Speaker 1: giving Leonard the benefit of the doubt. I just feel
- 44:39Speaker 1: confused as to why I wasn't addressed at all. I
- 44:42Speaker 1: do agree with that to just somewhatever degree. But it
- 44:46Speaker 1: could be Leonard feels they don't need it and they're
- 44:50Speaker 1: gonna move in a complete different direction. It's going to
- 44:52Speaker 1: be so much heavy movement stuff, which again I'm not
- 44:55Speaker 1: denying the possibility of I'm just saying that it's a
- 44:58Speaker 1: hard way to live like that, where you're just going
- 45:01Speaker 1: pure or heavy movement most of the time. I do
- 45:03Speaker 1: think this defense will be a movement based defense, but again,
- 45:06Speaker 1: like I've talked about, you still need point of attack
- 45:09Speaker 1: play mixed in with that. So I do find it
- 45:12Speaker 1: a little questionable. Or it could be he likes some
- 45:15Speaker 1: guys they already have on the roster and thinks that
- 45:18Speaker 1: they can They're fine with what they got, or he
- 45:20Speaker 1: could have banged the table a little bit for some
- 45:23Speaker 1: other guys in free agency either draft and he might
- 45:24Speaker 1: have gotten over rule. We really don't know at this point,
- 45:28Speaker 1: which is again unfortunate. But yeah, I do think some
- 45:32Speaker 1: more run based guys on the interior would have helped. Again,
- 45:38Speaker 1: even just going to Denver, right like DJ Jones and
- 45:40Speaker 1: Malcolm Roach, neither of them are huge. DJ Jones can
- 45:43Speaker 1: play the run. Malcolm Roach can also play the run,
- 45:46Speaker 1: So I think having more of a run based guy
- 45:48Speaker 1: at some point I expected more of that. Upfront. We
- 45:51Speaker 1: kind of got more of the same, but we'll see
- 45:59Speaker 1: what else? What else? Mm hmmmmmm. Walter says, I think
- 46:06Speaker 1: it's telling that we don't uh don't even have as
- 46:08Speaker 1: much of a coach or any roster ties to Denver's defense.
- 46:11Speaker 1: You would think if we were copying that defense, you
- 46:13Speaker 1: would bring in someone on some level. Interesting interesting, interesting, interesting, interesting. Ooh,
- 46:20Speaker 1: I bet you one large cheese, cheese and pepperoni, one
- 46:23Speaker 1: pied pizza that Faderium Mathis has as many snaps as
- 46:27Speaker 1: Dion Walker through eight games. Is that because of injury?
- 46:31Speaker 1: There's no way, There's no way, there's no way they
- 46:34Speaker 1: have an equal amount of snaps. But I kind of
- 46:37Speaker 1: like this bet, and I think I'll take it, even
- 46:39Speaker 1: though I'm not a betting man, because our injuries coming
- 46:43Speaker 1: into play. Is that kind of what your thought is
- 46:45Speaker 1: like Walker gets banged up? Interesting? Yeah, And as Troy says,
- 46:49Speaker 1: we can only know the end result, not the process.
- 46:52Speaker 1: That's what muddies at all so much, right, Like, we
- 46:55Speaker 1: only know what we see. We don't again, not even
- 46:57Speaker 1: to give being the benefit of the doubt because I've
- 46:59Speaker 1: been critical of him in this organization this offseason and
- 47:02Speaker 1: prior ones. We don't know, right, again, the Roy Lopez
- 47:06Speaker 1: example I gave. I was like, man, Roy Lopez signed
- 47:08Speaker 1: for a really affordable deal with Arizona, Why didn't And
- 47:11Speaker 1: that was a position to need. Why didn't the Bills
- 47:13Speaker 1: do that. They might not have tried for Roy Lopez.
- 47:17Speaker 1: They might not have wanted him. They might have offered
- 47:20Speaker 1: him less than what he got to go to Arizona.
- 47:22Speaker 1: They might have offered him the same and he chose Arizona.
- 47:24Speaker 1: They might have offered him more and he chose Arizona.
- 47:27Speaker 1: We don't know, but you know, again, we were still
- 47:33Speaker 1: kind of in the same spot. It is kind of
- 47:35Speaker 1: the same deal. I had a really good thought in
- 47:37Speaker 1: my head and I lost it. I lost that. I
- 47:40Speaker 1: lost it, and I'm frustrated with myself. But you would
- 47:42Speaker 1: think you would see some different addressing in that area.
- 47:46Speaker 1: But again being also at different priorities. He said coming
- 47:48Speaker 1: into the draft right that the biggest need was corner
- 47:51Speaker 1: and I don't think anybody saw that coming. So we'll see,
- 47:55Speaker 1: we'll see, we'll see, we'll see. Uh. Next player, Javon's Solomon.
- 48:01Speaker 1: This one I think is decently short and sweet. He's
- 48:05Speaker 1: really the only chance they have at Juice of having
- 48:08Speaker 1: juice in the edge room. Right, That doesn't mean the
- 48:11Speaker 1: edgroom is bad. But you've got Group, You've got Chubb,
- 48:14Speaker 1: You've got TJ. Parker, You've got Michael Hoyt. I'm gonna
- 48:17Speaker 1: put Hoyt to the side for now. Just talk about Parker,
- 48:20Speaker 1: Chubb Group. A lot of sameness amongst those three dudes, right,
- 48:24Speaker 1: power compression, power rushers, long arm, compress, the pocket, play
- 48:30Speaker 1: the run. I think Chubb is a little more athletic
- 48:32Speaker 1: and a bit of a better mover, but those guys
- 48:35Speaker 1: are all more sane than they are different. I think
- 48:38Speaker 1: Parker is another like a I don't want to say
- 48:41Speaker 1: poor man's versions. I feel like that's disrespectful, but I
- 48:43Speaker 1: feel like Parker is in the Chub mold, so it's
- 48:46Speaker 1: more sane Hoyt. Hoyt is honestly someone who I think
- 48:50Speaker 1: could benefit the most from Jenn Leonard coming in because
- 48:54Speaker 1: of his his skill set, versatility, his alignment and roll versatility,
- 48:57Speaker 1: where he can be moved, what he can do. It's
- 49:00Speaker 1: just a matter of how healthy he is. Right, you're
- 49:02Speaker 1: coming off Achilles. Usually you're not the same semblance of
- 49:06Speaker 1: yourself in year one. Usually you don't get that into
- 49:09Speaker 1: your year two. So we might not see the full
- 49:13Speaker 1: version of Michael Hoyd again until twenty twenty seven. We
- 49:15Speaker 1: don't know. And so between the Michael Hoyt stuff and
- 49:19Speaker 1: how much sameness there is at edge, Javon Solomon is
- 49:23Speaker 1: really like has an opportunity to be Edge four for
- 49:26Speaker 1: this team. Depending on Hoyt's progression and how healthy he is,
- 49:30Speaker 1: maybe you want to give him, you know, put him
- 49:32Speaker 1: on the pup just because, to give him some extra
- 49:34Speaker 1: time or ease him back in a little bit. It's
- 49:37Speaker 1: a lot easier to do that if you have a
- 49:40Speaker 1: solid answer at edge, potentially in Javon Solomon, or even
- 49:44Speaker 1: if Hoyd is good to go, it wouldn't be nice
- 49:47Speaker 1: to just have somebody in that edge room who has
- 49:50Speaker 1: some juice, who has some pop to his game, and
- 49:54Speaker 1: that would be Javon Solomon. Again, this doesn't mean that
- 49:57Speaker 1: Grout is bad, Chubb is bad, Parker is bad again. Hoyda,
- 50:01Speaker 1: I think, is in his own kind of bucket between
- 50:02Speaker 1: the injury and his play style. But a lot of
- 50:05Speaker 1: it is what we've seen before in prior years. Right,
- 50:07Speaker 1: the same archetype at edge is what the Bills have
- 50:10Speaker 1: gone with again. This offseason. Power compression, power compression, play
- 50:15Speaker 1: the run, power compression. It's not juice, it's not speed,
- 50:21Speaker 1: it's not you know, bend, it's not necessarily athleticism. It's power.
- 50:26Speaker 1: It's compression. It's power, it's compression. That's what they've continued
- 50:29Speaker 1: to go with, which again, can be fine. I still
- 50:32Speaker 1: would like a change up in that edge room, and
- 50:36Speaker 1: it seems like Jabon Solomon is the best option for
- 50:40Speaker 1: that change up. And I don't want that change up
- 50:42Speaker 1: just for the sake of wanting a changeup. It would
- 50:44Speaker 1: just be nice to have that. The same way, I
- 50:46Speaker 1: don't want a batting order that is all dudes who
- 50:49Speaker 1: hit for average. In the same way, I don't want
- 50:51Speaker 1: a batting order that has all dudes that hit for power.
- 50:54Speaker 1: You can't do that. You got to have some dudes
- 50:56Speaker 1: that hit for average, some dudes that hit for power,
- 50:58Speaker 1: some dudes who can steal some bases, some dudes that
- 51:01Speaker 1: hit some doubles, some dudes who can stretch out a
- 51:03Speaker 1: single into a double. You got to have a variety
- 51:06Speaker 1: of that throughout the batting order. And I feel like
- 51:09Speaker 1: the Bill's edge room right now is only I don't
- 51:12Speaker 1: even want to say home run hitters, because I feel
- 51:14Speaker 1: like that that implies they're going to get a bunch
- 51:16Speaker 1: of sacks. But I yeah, I think they're all power hitters.
- 51:21Speaker 1: And so it's like, okay, like you might get a double.
- 51:24Speaker 1: You know, you might have some good slugging percentage guys,
- 51:27Speaker 1: but they're going to strike out a bunch. They're going
- 51:29Speaker 1: to bat like two forty and it's all the same
- 51:32Speaker 1: type of dude. Right, So you've got a bunch of
- 51:33Speaker 1: guys that all hit two forty to two fifty and
- 51:36Speaker 1: then have varying levels of like slugging percentage and home
- 51:39Speaker 1: run power, and you could potentially win that way. It's
- 51:44Speaker 1: just hard to do that. Again, everything for me, for
- 51:47Speaker 1: sports always comes down to rock paper scissors. If you're
- 51:49Speaker 1: playing rock paper scissors, you want to be able to
- 51:52Speaker 1: throw rock, paper and scissors and be able to throw
- 51:55Speaker 1: all of them equally and effectively. And that is just
- 51:58Speaker 1: one giant you know four or analogy four flexibility, fluidity, adaptability,
- 52:05Speaker 1: and that would be nice if the Bills could do that.
- 52:06Speaker 1: It's nice to have a fastball, but it's cool to
- 52:08Speaker 1: throw a change up every once in a while and
- 52:10Speaker 1: at Javon Solomon or somebody again, juice bend, athleticism coming
- 52:15Speaker 1: off the edge mainly juice and bend. That would be
- 52:17Speaker 1: a nice change up in this bill's edge grouping. They
- 52:20Speaker 1: don't have it unless Javon Solomon takes a jump in
- 52:24Speaker 1: his game, and we'll see. I'm really interested to kind
- 52:28Speaker 1: of see what he can be. There are some flashes.
- 52:30Speaker 1: His usage last year was more and kind of like
- 52:32Speaker 1: the Michael Hoyt light roll. For the first six weeks,
- 52:35Speaker 1: he hasn't really been a true edge although I do
- 52:37Speaker 1: think the odd front five down alignment in him playing
- 52:40Speaker 1: as the man on the line of scrimmage could help
- 52:42Speaker 1: him a little bit more. I also think some of
- 52:44Speaker 1: the alignment versatility he has Leonard could unlock him a
- 52:47Speaker 1: little bit, which could be fun. I do think there
- 52:49Speaker 1: is a fair chance he takes a jump and it
- 52:51Speaker 1: would be very useful and very helpful. Uh Okay, So
- 52:56Speaker 1: we did TJ and landed. We did mathis slash anyone, one, two, three,
- 53:00Speaker 1: and eighty four. This last one in a spot in general.
- 53:05Speaker 1: Dorian Williams mentioned it earlier. A couple of you folks
- 53:07Speaker 1: mentioned it earlier. I'm gonna take a drink of water
- 53:09Speaker 1: because I feel like I'm about to Okay, I'm better,
- 53:17Speaker 1: Dorian Williams. This is twofold one. Just questions at linebacker
- 53:23Speaker 1: in general, who's starting opposite of Terrell Bernard and what
- 53:30Speaker 1: version of Terrell Bernard do the Buffalo Bills get. Was
- 53:35Speaker 1: the dip and play last year's solely due or heavily
- 53:39Speaker 1: heavily do to the injury? I think a good chunk
- 53:41Speaker 1: of it was. But even if that's true, he's still
- 53:46Speaker 1: the guy who's never gonna be extremely strong coming downhill,
- 53:49Speaker 1: taking on blocks. And again, you have not addressed the
- 53:53Speaker 1: space eater protection aspect up front. The guys playing in
- 53:56Speaker 1: front of Terrell Bernard are still smaller page page trading
- 54:00Speaker 1: type of dudes, although at Oliver can handle some double teams.
- 54:02Speaker 1: But is that Oliver protecting Terrel Bernard? Is Dion Walker
- 54:06Speaker 1: protecting Terrel Bernard? Is TJ Sanders or Landa Jackson protecting
- 54:10Speaker 1: Terrel Bernard? Or are you gonna do it with numbers
- 54:12Speaker 1: and scheme? Are you gonna blitz him a ton and
- 54:14Speaker 1: use movement to protect him that way? And then on
- 54:18Speaker 1: top of that, he has a bit of an injury history,
- 54:22Speaker 1: So I feel like it's a fair shout to say
- 54:25Speaker 1: that he'll miss time this year at some point, whether
- 54:28Speaker 1: it's one game, three games, five, we don't know. Linebacker
- 54:32Speaker 1: I think is a big question just for this season
- 54:35Speaker 1: and for the future. If Terreau Bernard has another injury
- 54:39Speaker 1: plagued season or a down season in general, that contract
- 54:44Speaker 1: all of a sudden looks terrible that they gave him
- 54:46Speaker 1: last year, and you have an even bigger questions at
- 54:50Speaker 1: linebacker that you do now. Even if Bernard is solid,
- 54:54Speaker 1: you still have questions at linebacker, like is Dorny and
- 54:59Speaker 1: Williams starting caliber regular starting caliber type of linebacker? Is
- 55:04Speaker 1: Caleb e Larms or ready to start as a rookie
- 55:07Speaker 1: or take a jump at some point? Is it Joe Andreeson?
- 55:09Speaker 1: I don't think. I think that's more of a long
- 55:11Speaker 1: shot than anything, but those are your options, like starting
- 55:13Speaker 1: opposite of Terrel Bernard right now, your options realistically are
- 55:17Speaker 1: Dorian Williams, e Or and Joe Andreeson. One of those
- 55:22Speaker 1: three guys is starting opposite of Terrell Bernard, and I
- 55:27Speaker 1: think all of them have questions, including Dorian Williams. And again,
- 55:33Speaker 1: on top of that, Bernard has an injury history and
- 55:38Speaker 1: there's questions about what his long term role and play
- 55:41Speaker 1: level and consistency can be from an jury standpoint and
- 55:44Speaker 1: from a quality standpoint. I see noahs common says sign
- 55:48Speaker 1: Bobby Okarak. I would take Bobby Okarak. I would welcome
- 55:52Speaker 1: back Shaq Thompson. I think your main Pratt is still
- 55:55Speaker 1: a free agent. I would sign your main Prat right now.
- 55:58Speaker 1: There's a lot of questions at linebacker, and so I
- 56:00Speaker 1: think as of now, Dorrian Williams is the guy who's
- 56:02Speaker 1: penciled and as your starter. I think Dorrian is fine
- 56:05Speaker 1: coming downhill. I actually like Dorian Williams being the downhill,
- 56:10Speaker 1: a gap to see gap linebacker type in this defense.
- 56:14Speaker 1: He's physical, he's quick, he's explosive, he's got long arms,
- 56:18Speaker 1: he's strong, he can get off blocks a little bit.
- 56:22Speaker 1: He's very he is very much just a sea ball
- 56:25Speaker 1: gift ball type of dude. I have no problem just
- 56:28Speaker 1: being like, hey man, just go play downhill and knock
- 56:30Speaker 1: some dudes into oblivion and we'll go from there. The
- 56:33Speaker 1: issue with Dorian Williams still, I still think he's learning
- 56:37Speaker 1: and coverage. He's still not as polished as you'd like
- 56:39Speaker 1: to be in coverage, even going into year four. But again,
- 56:42Speaker 1: a lot of it was a learning experience. As I've
- 56:44Speaker 1: said on the show gajillion times, for the first three
- 56:45Speaker 1: years of his career he played in a very basic
- 56:48Speaker 1: spot drop type of coverage scheme at Tulane that was
- 56:53Speaker 1: not very you know, hey preppy for the NFL type
- 56:56Speaker 1: of deal, so he had to learn on the flat.
- 56:58Speaker 1: So I do think coverage is still question mark for him.
- 57:02Speaker 1: I do think he can plays the end man on
- 57:04Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage against the run, not necessarily as
- 57:06Speaker 1: a true rusher though, Like he's not a guy that
- 57:10Speaker 1: you can put it. You can walk him down as
- 57:11Speaker 1: the end man on the line of scrimmage and create
- 57:14Speaker 1: a five man surface and be fine. But he's not
- 57:17Speaker 1: the type of guy you're gonna put his the end
- 57:18Speaker 1: man on the line of scrimmage in a four down
- 57:20Speaker 1: front and be like, hey, I'm gonna put you into
- 57:21Speaker 1: two point stance off the left or right tackle, you know,
- 57:24Speaker 1: and you're gonna rush and try and beat that guy
- 57:26Speaker 1: with a move. If you're doing that, he's probably spiking,
- 57:30Speaker 1: he's probably looping, he's probably engaging in some game. He's
- 57:33Speaker 1: not a true rush threat off that edge. But I
- 57:37Speaker 1: do think he can handle a lot of the downhill,
- 57:39Speaker 1: thumping stuff in the box in between the tackles. From
- 57:42Speaker 1: a run defense standpoint, I do think he's the best
- 57:44Speaker 1: option to start. He still does need to take a
- 57:47Speaker 1: jump in his game from a processing standpoint, and even
- 57:49Speaker 1: just from a downhill standpoint. Again, I still think he
- 57:51Speaker 1: is more traits than he is football player. I think
- 57:55Speaker 1: he is more length and strength and juice and violence
- 57:59Speaker 1: and ceiling potential than he is known quality solid football player.
- 58:05Speaker 1: If he could turn more of those traits into just
- 58:10Speaker 1: being a solid football player, that would be a huge
- 58:13Speaker 1: boon for this defense. Even again, even if it just
- 58:16Speaker 1: means starting opposite of Terrel Bernard, that would be great
- 58:19Speaker 1: and would go a long way for this defense. But
- 58:23Speaker 1: at some point Terrel Bernard is gonna get banged up again.
- 58:26Speaker 1: He's like two hundred and twenty three pounds as a linebacker.
- 58:29Speaker 1: They are going to play more of a movement based defense.
- 58:31Speaker 1: He is going to be blitzing and running and doing
- 58:33Speaker 1: all this stuff. But then there is gonna be times
- 58:35Speaker 1: where offensive linemen are gonna be able to climb to
- 58:38Speaker 1: the second level and put him in the dirt. He's
- 58:40Speaker 1: gonna get hit, He's gonna get banged. It's just and again,
- 58:44Speaker 1: when you're playing that much in the box, it's easy
- 58:46Speaker 1: to get rolled up on, to get stepped on, to
- 58:48Speaker 1: fall awkwardly, somebody layings on you a certain way and
- 58:51Speaker 1: you hurt a joint or a ligament, upper body, lower
- 58:53Speaker 1: body something. And even more so if you're a smaller
- 58:57Speaker 1: base guy whose whole game is predicated on blocks and
- 59:00Speaker 1: beating guys to spots. So movement and and processing is
- 59:05Speaker 1: so important to Terrell Bernard. That is the sole way
- 59:08Speaker 1: that he wins. If you have anything that compromises that,
- 59:15Speaker 1: it becomes a slog for him. And so I think
- 59:18Speaker 1: there's questions with Bernard just overall with his his type
- 59:22Speaker 1: of art linebacker archetype in today's NFL, with how the
- 59:25Speaker 1: league is kind of changing a little bit of that spot,
- 59:27Speaker 1: but also just for him individually with the injury concerns.
- 59:30Speaker 1: So if Thririan Williams takes a jump one, you know
- 59:34Speaker 1: you have a solid spot, the solid starter opposite of
- 59:37Speaker 1: Terrel Bernard. And if terreul Bernard is healthy, I think
- 59:40Speaker 1: he's a fine starter. I don't think Terrell Bernard was
- 59:42Speaker 1: ever like the top ten linebacker that he that I
- 59:46Speaker 1: think a lot of fans kind of crowned him as
- 59:49Speaker 1: or anointed him as after he had that good year
- 59:51Speaker 1: A couple of seasons ago. I wanted to see more
- 59:54Speaker 1: of a sample size, and we still didn't get that.
- 59:58Speaker 1: But I think I think Tereb is a fine starting
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: linebacker in the NFL if he if he's healthy, he's
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: a fine starting linebacker in the NFL. He make some
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: splash plays. He's smart, he can he can, you know,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: choreograph and coach up the defense. He'll call stuff out,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: he'll relay, he'll communicate, he'll start the communication, relay the
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: signals like he can get you a line. I think
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: he can do a lot of heavy stuff and he'll
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: make some splash plays as a blitzer in coverage and
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: create some turnovers and make some place for you. He
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: has his limits, he has his limitations, but again, I
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: think he's a fine starter. So if Dorian takes a jump,
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: you've got two fine or solid starters at that spot.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: But again, if Bernard goes down, it just helps you
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: answer things a little bit more. If Dorian doesn't take
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: a jump and Bernard goes down, what are you starting
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: at at linebacker? Is it Dorian and Caleb elarms Or
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: that's scary for me right now? Or even if Dorian
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: isn't the answer, you're starting e Or and Bernard, And
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: is that because e Or won the job or because
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Dorrian just didn't take it. It isn't play well. There's just
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: a lot of question it creates if Dornian doesn't take
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: a jump, it creates a lot of questions that a
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: position group that for me already has a lot of
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: questions in twenty twenty six and then also has questions
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: in twenty twenty seven and beyond. Because again, if I
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: mean Dorrian's also going in the last year of his contract,
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: He's a UFA after the season. But say Bernard has
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: a down year again whether due to injury or just
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: not great play, right, and Dorrian's a UFA next offseason.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Bernard's contract is an albatross. You have to reshape that
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: linebacking corps and you don't really have any strong answers
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: like kayleb b Larndor will be going into year two,
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: but what is he Dornian can stabilize this group in
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: twenty twenty six, allow Eyor to learn and get acclimated
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: to the NFL so that he can potentially fill in
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: for Dorrian in twenty twenty seven or beyond Dorrian's play
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: this year. Solidifying that linebacker spot would go a long way.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: We've seen Dorriian be a spot starter due to injury.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: Dornian needs to take a jump this year where he's
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: just a starter. He doesn't have to be top tier,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: he doesn't have to be some plus level starter. He
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: just needs to be a solid starter. He needs to
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: be a guy that you put in and you know
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: he's not a vulnerability or a deficiency. Doesn't mean that
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: he's going to be a plus player overall or you know,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: successful in every element of being a linebacker. But he
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: needs to be a guy that when you look at
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: him in the starting lineup and again I hate going
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: off vibes and feelings and all that stuff, but he
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: needs to be more of a guy where you look
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: and you're like, yep, Dorian's starting, okay, instead of being like, oh,
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Matt Mulano's out, we gotta start Dorian. Ah Terrell Bernard
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: is out, we gotta start Dorian. Ah Shaq Thompson got hurt.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: We gotta start Dorian. He needs to be more of
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: the first option could be a low tier right could
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: be a low tier starter, but still a starter. He
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: needs to take the jump to that level help stabilize
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: the linebacker group, which again I think has a lot
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: of questions and even too Not to get too much
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: into this, but you know, I talked about it so
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: much in the off season. I mentioned some of the
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: names earlier, right, like the linebackers for Leonard at Wisconsin,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: I mean, still different than the guys in Denver, but
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: again he was in the defensive coordinator there. But it
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: was guys like Van Ginkel and Bonn and Chanel and
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: Noah Burks and Nick Herbig and Jack Sanborn. It was
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: all these guys that were like these dynamic, hybrid type
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: players of can play a little off ball on the inside,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: can play as the end man on the line of
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: scrimmage and walk down you know, in an odd front
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: five man surface can rush off the edge and a
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: four down look can drop into coverage effectively, can carry
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: Some dudes play the flat and the hook, and I
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: think the Bills Edges can do that a little bit now.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: But it is interesting. I just thought they would. I
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: thought they would add more of a dynamic nature to
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: the linebacker group. They didn't, which doesn't mean that they're screwed.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: I personally wanted more of a dynamic linebacker room, but
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: they didn't get that, which bummer for me. But I
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: also think limits them, limits Leonard in terms of what
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: he can do, and so I think there's questions there.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: I think there's questions long term with the linebacker group. Sorry,
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: keep moving around so much with the camel out of focus.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: And so if Dorian can solidify a spot this year,
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: even if it's just for this year and he gets
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: paid or goes elsewhere in free agency next year, fine,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: Hopefully E Or is ready. If he's not, you draft
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: a linebacker, you sign somebody. They need some solidification and
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: stabilization at the linebacker spot this year, just because I
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: think Bernard is gonna get banged up at some point,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: but fair uh yeah, So I forget who it was,
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: RJ with Somebody in the film with me and Eric
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: last week called Caleb E alarms or Eric and I
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: were calling him k EO but that was still like
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: too much to say. So somebody called him E or
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: somebody called him like E hyphen or O R So
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: I'm just calling me or so. Yeah, swig fifty says,
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: what this is a good comment. Swig fifty says, what
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: really makes me nervous. This entire offseason could have been
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: a McDermott being off season. That's what I keep coming
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: back to. And again, absence of evidence is not the
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: evidence of absence. Right. This doesn't mean that, you know,
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: Leonard didn't want to go in a different direction. It
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: doesn't mean that Leonard thinks the same way as Bean
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: or McDermott, or it doesn't mean anything bad. It doesn't
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: mean anything good. We just we don't know we are
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: where we are. But yeah, I do think it's very
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: interesting that for all the schematic changes in scheme changes,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: and I do think there is some some more grit
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: and violence in an in a sandpaper way that's been added,
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: especially with Chauncey Gardner Johnson. But you know, even with Igbanocin,
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: people talking about like, oh, this is like a Jim
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: Leonard defense. Now it's new and it's different. Sean McDermott
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: also liked DBS that got in your face and played
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: press and we're nasty, like they brought in Rasoul Douglas,
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: like Igbunosen is very similar to Rasseull Douglas from like
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: a mentality standpoint, and you know, maybe he's a little
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: more chippy and a little more chirpy, but Douglas was
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: long played press and he was a chippy type of vet,
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: like he'd let you know what was up with his
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: hands and with his like with his talk. So I
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: I think the Chauncey Gardner Johnson signing is definitely a
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: a departure. You know, I don't think with his baggage
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: potential red flags, he would have been a McDermot guy.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: But yeah, a lot of these moves for the most part,
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: it just feels like the same kind of off season, Like, Oh,
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: Bradley Chubb, that would have been a McDermott type of edge. Oh,
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: t J. Parker that would have been a McDermott type
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: of edge. Oh like Zane Durant that's a Sean McDermott
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: type of you know, defensive tackle. And so it makes
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: you question, wait a minute, were all these moves previously
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: that everybody kept attributing to Sean mcder Are those more
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: Brandon Bean moves? Are those the guys that Brandon Bean likes?
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: And so it's continuing, does Jim Leonard also like those
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: type of body types and guys and those skill sets
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: in those roles. Does he have a different vision? Did
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: he want something else but they couldn't. You know, I
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: find it hard to believe that Jim Leonard signed on
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: to be the defensive coordinator here and just got overruled
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: with every decision and didn't get anything he wanted. But
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: I do think it's fair to say that, you know,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: there it's questionable at this point, and I do think
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: this is a fair comment that you know, this entire
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: offseason could have been a McDermott bean offseason. You know,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: if you told me that everything stayed the same, I
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: believe it because it doesn't feel again a lot of
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: the spots, Like I thought they'd reinforced the four eye.
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: I thought they'd add, you know, a more of an
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: anchor guy as a rotational nose. I thought they'd add
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: more of dynamic play at the linebacker spot and more
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: high more of a hybrid nature at linebacker. And they
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: didn't really do any of those things. They kind of,
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: even though there's a schematic change, they essentially stuck to
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: the blueprint for a lot of these guys and positions
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: and archetypes that they have before, which yeah, interesting, interesting,
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: And then your follow up comment here is this season
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: hinges so greatly on Leonard's new systems, so we dot
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: dot dot are filling it with the same kind of
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: players fair and again that maybe that means Leonard's gonna
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: run a similar type of defense and we're gonna get
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: less of a hybrid thing than we think. Or he
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: thinks he can tap into different skill sets and uses
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: of these guys that we haven't seen before, or he
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: still likes those type of body types and thinks he
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: can make it work. Or he wanted something different and
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: being was like, no, I don't want a We're gonna
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: go get b again and he got overruled. We don't know,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: but I do think I do think it's very interesting
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: at the very least that again, brand new defensive coordinator,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: new defensive coaching staff, new scheme, new structure, new philosophy,
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: new identity, but from a roster stamp, and it still
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: feels like the same type of roster building that they've
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: done previously, which is interesting. Adam's giving some love for
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: the hat. Appreciate you. I love this hat. Go Sabers
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: one thousand percent. Uh, Samtha says, who would you have
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: drafted at twenty six if we stayed in that in
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: mcderham in that defense, and then you say McDermott's defense,
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: I would have I would have traded back. But if
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: I had to make a pick at twenty six, if
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: I had to, Oh, it's so tough, because I didn't
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: want to stay at twenty six. I was hoping Casey
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: Concepcione was gonna fall. I guess if I had to,
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: I would have taken Kid McDonald or Christa Miller if
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: I had to. If I had to stay at twenty six.
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: I also, I also don't don't mind t J. Parker there,
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: though I wanted a different skill set at edge, and
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: knowing I could have gotten Kyroan Crawford later, I would
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: have done that. But yeah, I guess I would have
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: taken McDonald or Miller, but I wanted to trade back
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: over everything. Times On thousand Bill Fans seventy eighty three says,
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: in my opinion, it's subjectively obvious that Bean has always
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: been in control of the roster. I think him and
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: McDermott always moved more in lockstep than people gave them
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: credit for or talked about. And then I think with
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: the whole like breakup between them mid season, I think
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: it kind of created like, oh, who wants these players?
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: Who doesn't? Yeah. The only thing that I think really
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: kind of pisses me off with all of it is
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: being made a comment at the combine I think where
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: he said before I'm paraphrasing, but he alluded to essentially
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: like before, they wouldn't always take the best football player,
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: they would take like someone who fit the scheme better.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: And again I'm paraphrased, but essentially alluded to, like now
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: this offseason, it's refreshing to be able to go in
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: a new direction and just pick like the better football player.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: And he said like, yeah, sure two guys are similar
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: and one fits the scheme better. Sure go with the
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: guy who's the better scheme fit. But you know it'll
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: be nice and refreshing to go in a different direction,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: in a new He kept using words like refreshing and
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: new and in different ways, implying that, you know, his
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: hands were tied with previous moves and roster acquisitions. And
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: so I just think it's so funny that like comments
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: like those were made and then we got we got
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: like the same kind of offseason we have the past
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: several years. It's just funny. It's just funny, funny, funny, funny.
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: I don't know if he's how much of control he's had. Again,
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: I think being in McDermott saw much more eye to
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: eye than either of them let on or people kind
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: of blew up. I don't think it was like, oh,
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: Bean is controlling everything and McDermott's got to make you know,
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: chicken salad out of chicken, you know what. And I
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: don't think it was like, oh, you know, Bean has
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: to only get the guys to McDermott wants. I think
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: they agreed in a lot of ways on roster building
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: and team philosophy and positional archetypes and skill sets and
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: traits to go after. I think they were much more
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: in lockstep with one another more often than they were not.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: And just with how this off season is gone, yeah,
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: I think it kind of shows that even more that
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Bean was at the very least on board with previous
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: offseason moves or positional archetypes. And then yeah, as you know,
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: other people mention, it kind of calls in a question
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: this offseason of like wait, so is like is Leonard
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: having a voice or input or is he these the
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: guys he wanted top tier, Like, yeah, we don't know.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: We don't know the peak behind the scenes. We don't
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: know how much, say Leonard has, We don't know if
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: he's getting overruled. Again, I find it hard to believe
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: that he'd come in and he'd be like, hey, this
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: is a list of everything I want and they're like no, no, no, no, no,
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: we're going to do what we want. I find it
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: hard to believe that would happen. But it's just a
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: matter of how much give and take there is, or
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: positional value. Or he may have wanted a nose. I'm
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: just making this up, and he may have wanted a
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: truer nose somewhere and he was like, Hey, I want
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: this guy and they were like no, Like, as a group,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: we have a better grade on this player here, so
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: we're going to take this player here instead. Same thing
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: with free agency might be like hey, I want this
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: guy and they're like he's gonna be too expensive. We
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: want to do something else. Or again, they could have
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: offered that guy and that guy turned it down. We
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: don't know. I also think with free agency too, it
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: was talked about a bit. I do think they were
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: trying to land the big fish in either Trey Hendrickson
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: or Max Crosby, and so they were sitting kind of
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: holding their cards to put all their I should say
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: kind of. I think they were folding a lot, waiting
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: to put their chips all in for the right hand,
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: and that hand being Crosby or Hendrickson. And then they
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: lost out on both Crosby and Hendrickson. And when once
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: that happened and they were like, oh, okay, we can
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: go make other moves now, the first two or three
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: waves of free agency were already done. And so that's
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: all to a variable, right, Like maybe if they had
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: known that from the jump that they weren't going to
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: get Crosby or Hendrickson, maybe they would have done something
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: else to start free agency. That's another variable too. But yeah,
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: as someone said earlier, I think Troy said it, all
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: we know is results. We don't know the process, which
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: allows us to speculate and speculate and speculate. But given
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: what we've continued to see over and over these past
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: several years and how this off seats has gone, you
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: can start to connect some dots and put some bread
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: crumbs together Swiegemuth, Jesus, maybe they're maybe they're gonna megaz
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: or TJ. Sanders and Land and Jackson into a proper nose.
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: Who knows. That's super funny, super funny. Yeah, the nose
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: one is the biggest example to me, if Brandon Bean
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: has literally told us on record, you know, it's easy
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: to get those type of guys. It's easy to get
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: that role, it's easy to get that skill set. He
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: said it about one Tech previously, but he's alluded to
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: similar things with No's right, it's easy to get those guys.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: Those guys are cheap and they're always available in free agency.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: So if you haven't gotten into any those guys, that
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: to me implies you don't want it. Right. If this
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: drink costs a dollar, Oh, it's only a dollar. It's
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: so easy to get one of those, and you've never
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: bought one, that to me means you don't want to
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: buy one. If it's so cheap and it's so easy
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: to get it, what's stopping you from getting it. It's
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: not the cost, and it's not the obstacle or the
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: challenge of getting it. The only thing that's stopping you
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: from getting it is yourself because you don't want it
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: comment here being a mcdermotd from same organization. They tried
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: to build this team like Carolina, even getting Carolina players.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: I'm sure being asked Leonard his position on nose tackle
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: before hiring. I'm sure they talk about everything in general,
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: like I don't think. I don't think Leonard is like
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: Harry Potter and he's locked underneath the stairs in the
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: closet and he's got no saying to anything that's happening.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: It's just a matter of kind of seeing how much
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: there is, how much give and take there is, who's
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: calling the shots. Again, there's so many variables we don't know.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, it is at
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: the very least ironic or coincidental that, even though there's
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: a new defensive coordinator and a new defense in the room,
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: this offseason has kind of played out from an archetype
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: standpoint and a positional priority standpoint largely and pretty much
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: like it has in previous seasons. I just said, I
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: don't think you can say we lost out on Crosby
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: since we still could have traded for Crosby after Baltimore
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: screwed the deal. Yeah, but at that point too. There
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: is some I think smoke to the fire of like
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: what his injury was, and maybe that scared the Bills
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: off initially. Again, you know, if you can believe the
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: rumors or reports or whatever. I think the Bills had
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: a similar offer to Baltimore's, but the Raiders chose Baltimore's
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: offer because Baltimore had a higher first round pick than
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: the Bills did. But after the Ravens dropped out, I mean,
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: nobody has tapped in to Max Crosby, like even you
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: could say that with anybody there was who was it.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: I think it was the Bears, the Bills, Cowboys maybe
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: that were in on Crosby. And after the Baltimore deal
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: fell through, everybody, everybody who was in on that deal
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: could have gone back in on that deal. And maybe
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: they even have better leverage because now everybody knows, Oh
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: Crosby's a little ding, maybe the price drops and who knows,
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: maybe the Bills called back or all these teams called
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: back and were like, Hey, what's going on, and maybe
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: the Raiders were like, screw it, We're keeping him, or
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: maybe the injury worries are true. So we don't know,
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: but they did gun for Crosby, and they did gun
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: for Henderson, They did try for Crosby, and then I
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: think they were waiting on Hendrickson, but they did lose
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: out on Crosby. According to reports, they the the Raiders
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: the Ravens deal because the Ravens had a higher first
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: round pick, and then after everything fell apart, who knows.
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: Maybe Crosby's knee is really scary. People didn't want part
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: of that. They didn't want to give up that much.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: Maybe the Raiders wouldn't budge. But I do think it's
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: interesting that Crosby had all these suitors and then once
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: that deal went away with Baltimore. It wasn't like all
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: the deal fell through with Baltimore, but he's still gonna
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: get traded to one of these other teams that were interested.
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: None of those that didn't happen. None of those interested
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: teams pulled the trigger. And that could be on those teams.
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: It could because of Crosby, it could because of the Raiders.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: We don't know. So he bically says, even if the
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: injury concerns weren't true, any asking price would be less
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: than what the Ravens agreed to had to keep them
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: at that point yeah, and so maybe maybe the Raiders
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: just felt like, no, Crosby's fine, We're not going to
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: trade them for less, and then you go from there.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: Or again, maybe they didn't like the other deals that
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: the other teams were offering, so they said screw it. Yeah,
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: we're just gonna keep them. Whatever we're getting Mendoza. You know,
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: maybe things will turn around. We got koobi Ac let's
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: play off some good vibes. Maybe things will happen. Maybe
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: they didn't want to trade them anymore. We don't know.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: But the Bills were in on Crosby and they were
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: like waiting around for the Hendricks and shoot to drop.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: And by that time that happened. Poof guys want to wait,
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: which happens. You know what else happens? Getting yourself the
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: best pizza in Buffalo, New York. That, of course is
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: One Pie Pizza. I don't say they are the best
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: pizza in Buffalo, New York because they sponsor the show.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: They sponsor the show because I think they are the
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: best pizza in Buffalo, New York. If you have not
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: gotten yourself some One Pie Pizza, you're doing yourself a
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: serious disservice. Go get yourself some one Pie, pizza cup,

- 1:20:00Speaker 1: evenly across the pie. They do a breakfast pizza. They

- 1:21:04Speaker 1: giving and they're just very charitable and kind, which they
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: don't have to do. Like, just making amazing food is
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: good enough, but then they're kind and generous on top
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: of it. So do some good for your taste buds
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: in the community. Get yourself some one pie pizza. I'm
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: gonna throw out the banners is tootless folks, So we're
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: gonna start say goodbye. But I am gonna start to
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: grab some comments as we start to go through here. Huh.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: I appreciate your swig fifty, who says the smoothest segue
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: in the AFC. Thank you very much, very proud of that.
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: Appreciate you, Slim Walter says, the Bills are concerned with
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: Crosby's knee, so they opted to go to the safer
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: route and just sign a cheaper You had me in
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: the first half. I'm not gonna lie. Sorry, I'm gonna
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: read this in the beginning. That's like, stop laughing. Walter says,
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: the Bills were concerned with Crosby's knee, so they opted
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: to go the safer route and just sign a cheaper,
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: lesser defensive end with three major knee surgeries instead. Fair.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: I also think you can kind of make the case
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: that well, I mean, Chubb wasn't gonna cost as much
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: as Crosby financially or with the draft capital on top
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: of it, but at this stage he might be healthier
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: than Crosby. I guess you can gotta put it that way.
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: I think it was more just the cost than anything, right,
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: Like they I think they were willing to maybe even
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: still take a swing with Crosby, but it was the
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: draft capital combined with the financial compensation. Chubb costs much
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: less from a financial standpoint, especially from an edge contract,
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: and they didn't have to give up draft capitol on
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: top of it. Rj awesome testimonial as always for one pie,
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: he got the cover one Goat pizza. Oh and then
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: he remember he got one with pepperoni, hot honey and
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: ricotta drizzle. And he says the cover one Goat and
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: the Pepperoni hot honey ricotta drizzle are my two favorites.
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: Chef's Kiss Chef's Kiss. Noah says, we can still sign
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: Dante Corleone. He's still insign. I really didn't like his
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: film from this past year. But then I also heard
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: he's got some kind of audition or off the field
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: stuff that impacted his play. I don't know if that's
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: still the case, but I think that's kind of why
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: he went undrafted and why he may still be unsigned.
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: Bill's fan seventy eight eighty three says, that's my issue
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: with this offseason. Why waste the money on Shubb? That
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: money could have been used elsewhere? And after you spend
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: the money, why use the early draft capital on the
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: same position. I mean they still needed a blood clots yeah,
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: as Sampa says, Yeah, Dante Corneona might be a blood class.
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: You still needed to do things at edge, right. You
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: couldn't go into the year with group hot and Jevon
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: Solomon like you needed to make moves at edge. I
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: think Chubb is a high floor player. I even think
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: Parker is a high floor player. I don't necessarily have
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: issue with Chubb or Parker as players. I have more
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: issue that it's the same type of the same type
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: of archetype at edge that they've had previously, and I
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: wanted more of a change up mixed in with the fastball. Instead,
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: they just kind of leaned into it what they leaned
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: into what they've been previously and what they've continued to
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: do previous. And Chubb wasn't too expensive was suppcially for
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: an edge contract. Again, that being said, I would have
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: taken the money for d Alford and Chubb and reallocated
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: it elsewhere, as I broke down in an episode at
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: around that point. So I don't know. I I'm whelmed
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: by Chubb. I didn't love it. I didn't think it
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: was terrible. I don't think he's overly expensive for an
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: edge and I think he gives you a high floor
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: and a known quantity there. But that's kind of just
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: where I'm at with Chubb. And again there's some injury
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: concerned there as well. And then why use her early
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: draft cap on the same position they still needed. They
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: still need to go for edge. Oh and I see
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: your point here saying that's the point I'm trying to make.
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: It's all just such a redundant offseason. I agree. I agree. Again,
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: that doesn't mean it's terrible, that doesn't mean it's great.
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: It just it just feels like we've done this dance before,
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: for better or for worse, good or bad. This offseason
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: feels like very much like we've done this before. Same
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: type of players, same type of body types, similar kind
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: of movements, similar kind of contracts. Right, it just all
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: feels very same thing, same thing, same thing. Walter says,
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: I'll never like. Oh, I never liked the Chubb signing.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: But it's less the player and more the structure of
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: a contract. Tying ourselves for two years when you know
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: you're drafting a young end makes little sense to be
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: But you still need at the edge spot defensive line
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: in general, you need honestly at edge, you need like
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: a top four. So if you can lock a good
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: top four in for a couple of years, So in theory,
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: if things work out this year and next year, you
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: could have a solid top four grouping with group Chubb,
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: Parker and Hoyt that could really work out. We just
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: got to see. So I get the idea of double
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: dipping on the edge and again they needed it, and Chubb.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: Chubb provides a known quantity. We don't know what TJ.
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: Parker is going to be. Again, in theory, we don't
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: know what anybody's gonna be at any time. Even the
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: most surefire prospect could bottom out and burn and be terrible.
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: So I think Chubb gives you the known quantity, and
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: then Parker gives you a high floor and a type
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: of skill set that Bean and or Leonard may like.
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: James says DJ Reader still out there. I'm not talking
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: about DJ Reader anymore. I don't even want to talk
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: about nos. I don't even like DJ Reader that much,
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: although I would bradly take him, gladly take him. At
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: this point, I'm just so tired of talking about nose.
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: But I feel you on that, uh this comment. Are
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: Dorian Williams and kayleb b Lurmas or able to play together?
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: A lot? Seems to Hinge on Treel Bernard being healthy
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: and much better. But if he's not, I'm worried about
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: Buffalo Joe seeing extended time. I think they could see
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: time together. The bigger question is who's calling the defense
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: if the if, if if Bernard goes down, I feel
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: like it would be oh Marcus dj Reid. Did dj
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: Reader officially sign with the Giants as of now? I
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: saw all the smoke before the draft, but it was
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: still unofficial. I don't know if if it was actually
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: true or not, so I haven't Dovid Dovin do. I
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: just figured it was gonna happen at some point, but
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: I don't know if it's official. Yeah, my issue is
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: if if Dornian and elarm Zor are playing together, who's
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: calling the defense? And then it's still kind of like
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: inexperience paired with inexperience that would worry to me. Like
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: in theory, I think their skill sets could play together. No,
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: I don't think elarm Zora is as strong in coverage
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: from an awareness standpoint as I'd like him to be.
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: He's fine matching up and manning up against like tight
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: ends and running backs and nailing down on underneath stuff
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: or even carrying seam routes vertically because he's so athletic.
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: But I do have some questions with change the direction
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: for him, and I think his awareness isn't necessarily necessarily
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: there in zone all the time, especially with things that
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: get behind him, Like the feel isn't there. But again,
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: he just started playing inside back er at twenty twenty three,
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: so it kind of makes sense. I think there would
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: be some gaps from a coverage standpoint if those two
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: played together, but in theory they could. I think it
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: would be more who calls the defense, who sets everything,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: and then the coverage pairing together. I think you'd have
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: to play a lot of downhill linebacker blitz type of
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: games to take advantage of both of them. But yeah,
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: maybe Buffalo Joe would see time in a record ah
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: Marcus saying, oh, DJ Reader two year deal, twelve and
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: a half mil. Interesting, he went for more than I
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: thought he would have gone at this stage your free
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: agency shout out to the Giants getting DJ Reader. Oh well, yeah,
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: Son fifty says all RP the DJ Reader dream already forgotten,
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: such as life. I hope you folks enjoyed this episode.
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: For those of you still here with me live. If

- 1:29:21Speaker 1: coming in through my for now, for myself, for the
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: episode and throughout it, so I appreciate the kind words.
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: I don't like to bring them up on them by myself,
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: because it seems corny to bring up kind stuff about myself,
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: like I'm self patting myself on the back, which is weird,
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: but I see the kindness and I do sincerely appreciate it,
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: So thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed the episode. Yeah,
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: joy the rest of your Tuesday night. Again for next week,
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: we will see what happens. Keep in mind, if the
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: Sabers are playing next Tuesday night or any Tuesday night
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: in these playoffs or any playoffs going forward, I will
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: not be doing a show live in conjunction and running
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: at the same time that last week was stressful, and
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: I know everybody. Some people were conflicted. Some people were
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: coming in the chat and we're coming in between periods
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: or we're like, dude, why are you doing a show?
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: At this point, I was thinking the same thing. I
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: was like, I just want to stop and go watch
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: the Sabers. So, yeah, we'll see what happens next Tuesday.
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: If the Sabers play no episode, I would likely drop
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: one on Thursday. Well let's see if they play on Thursday.
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: But I probably drop an offline or a special live
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: one at some point. But yeah, hope you folks enjoyed
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: this episode. Drop ake, tell your family, friends, loved ones,
