Washington just made a big move for student safety: residential private schools now must get licensed by DCYF, starting July 1, to ensure kids are protected from abuse and neglect. No longer is oversight limited to education standards — now living conditions are under the microscope, with DCYF stepping in to enforce health and safety rules. Schools must also cooperate with DCYF in any abuse investigations.
