- 0:37Speaker 1: Audio Network, wherever you may be within Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho,
- 0:43Speaker 1: and Montana. The Kraken will face Detroit in the first
- 0:45Speaker 1: of two matchups coming up here for this month, and
- 0:48Speaker 1: they head into a place that has been through an
- 0:51Speaker 1: absolute spin cycle with the news over the recent few months,
- 0:56Speaker 1: all the way from GM Steve Iserman out of his
- 0:59Speaker 1: GM position to to Dylan Larkin's trade request, to now
- 1:03Speaker 1: where does Simon Edvinson play? We'll replay some of our
- 1:07Speaker 1: conversation with Max Boltman of the Athletic on the state
- 1:10Speaker 1: of the Red Wings, plus also get you caught up
- 1:12Speaker 1: here for puck drop heading into game one of this
- 1:15Speaker 1: five-game trip. Well, previous home game didn't go exactly as planned,
- 1:20Speaker 1: but maybe were some seeds planted for the long term
- 1:23Speaker 1: in a 6-2 crack and loss against the Vegas Golden Knights.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Here's how things unfolded. And it was Vegas opening up
- 1:31Speaker 1: the score early before scores were out to be settled
- 1:35Speaker 1: in a physical, emotional, and wild third period.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Jack Eichel, below the goal line here for Mark Stone.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Centers it in front to Tomasz Hertel, and they score.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Stone over to Eichel, two on one, short-handed. Eichel, right
- 1:49Speaker 3: side across the stone, he scores. A very unfortunate play.
- 1:58Speaker 3: For Seattle, a broken stick by Montour on the shot.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Two on one. Eichel and Stone probably the last guys
- 2:07Speaker 3: you want to see coming down on you. 35 seconds
- 2:10Speaker 3: to play here in the second period. Jack Eichel forcing
- 2:13Speaker 3: a turnover on a breakaway. Down the slot, he scores.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Up the bracket, Kapo Kakko, left wing entry to the
- 2:19Speaker 3: high slot.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Shane Wright scores!
- 2:29Speaker 3: Shane Wright breaks the shutout, and the Seattle Kraken.
- 2:33Speaker 1: On the board.
- 2:34Speaker 3: It's a 5-1 Golden Knights lead with 15.08 to play
- 2:38Speaker 3: in the period.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Yeah, Kapokaro gets a great feed in stride down.
- 2:41Speaker 2: That left side.
- 2:43Speaker 5: He's a left shot, so he's got all kinds of passing.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Lanes to his right.
- 2:47Speaker 5: He finds Shane Wright coming high in the slot, and
- 2:49Speaker 5: Wright beats Carter Hart, glove side, under the bar, breaks
- 2:53Speaker 5: that shutout. 5-1 Vegas.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Just wiggled his gloves at him.
- 2:58Speaker 1: We'll see if they go.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Here's Montour, now they're gonna go.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Montour, Mark Stone, right circle inside of Kraken territory. Gloves
- 3:09Speaker 3: and sticks are down, they'll size each other up. Mark
- 3:12Speaker 3: Stone reaches first. Montour grabs him. Two strong rights over
- 3:17Speaker 3: top of the head. Now they jostle at one another.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Mark Stone has one. Now Montour another strong right hand.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Mark Stone counters with a right of his own. Montour
- 3:26Speaker 3: trying to grab his footing.
- 3:27Speaker 6: He does.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Keeps him at arm's length. Stone over top of the head.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Too strong for Montour. And then Mark Stone will catch him.
- 3:35Speaker 3: And then they'll take each other down to the ground.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Jack Eichel and Tomas Schertl were pretty hard to stop
- 3:39Speaker 1: that night, each collecting four points in a 6-2 crack
- 3:42Speaker 1: and loss against Vegas, but also both teams suffering a
- 3:46Speaker 1: loss of bodies from their lineup as a result. Ryan
- 3:50Speaker 1: Lindgren took a hit by Mark Gatcombe just 15 seconds
- 3:53Speaker 1: into the game, would not return after period one. He
- 3:56Speaker 1: will be out now four to six weeks with an
- 3:58Speaker 1: upper body injury. Victor Olofsson also, who was hit by
- 4:02Speaker 1: Ben Myers in period three, he's out week to week
- 4:05Speaker 1: with an upper body injury. On top of that, the
- 4:08Speaker 1: two teams combining for 65 minutes in penalties, 55 occurring
- 4:13Speaker 1: in period three alone. Those escalated into two fights separately.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Ryan Winterton fighting Gatcombe at 15.03 of period three. And
- 4:21Speaker 1: the headliner that got plenty in the hockey world talking
- 4:24Speaker 1: about Brandon Montour fighting Vegas captain Mark Stone at 9.21
- 4:28Speaker 1: of period three. Keep in mind, next meeting for these
- 4:33Speaker 1: two teams will happen January 9th. Mark your calendars. Nonetheless,
- 4:38Speaker 1: the Kraken had to deal with a pretty grounding loss
- 4:41Speaker 1: and had a couple of days to move on mentally
- 4:43Speaker 1: before getting here to the road for five straight games
- 4:47Speaker 1: opening up in Detroit. At Morning Skate on Friday, head
- 4:50Speaker 1: coach Lane Lambert began his remarks with what the Kraken
- 4:53Speaker 1: will miss with Ryan Lindgren out of the lineup.
- 4:56Speaker 7: Leadership and compete. You know, what it does is it
- 5:00Speaker 7: gives other guys opportunities to play. And, you know, Otto Weinen, Fleury, Mahura,
- 5:08Speaker 7: these guys have, you know, been waiting in the wings,
- 5:10Speaker 7: so to speak, especially Fleury and Mahura because of the
- 5:16Speaker 7: number of games that they sat out last year. So
- 5:18Speaker 7: it just creates opportunity for those guys for sure.
- 5:22Speaker 6: What can you see from them that would help earn
- 5:23Speaker 6: your trust?
- 5:25Speaker 4: Reliability.
- 5:26Speaker 7: Just keep the game simple. Be physical. Be good on
- 5:29Speaker 7: the penalty kill.
- 5:30Speaker 6: After reviewing the last game, what kind of takeaways do
- 5:33Speaker 6: you have when it comes to what needs to be
- 5:35Speaker 6: cleaned up and just sharper today?
- 5:36Speaker 7: A lot of things, actually. We didn't play very well,
- 5:40Speaker 7: but we have to be more on our toes, more pressure.
- 5:46Speaker 7: For whatever reason, I don't know what it is, we
- 5:48Speaker 7: sat back and watched Vegas play hockey.
- 5:51Speaker 6: With Detroit, they scored five goals last game. Debrinket, Arvidsson,
- 5:55Speaker 6: you know, driving that up. What do you expect out
- 5:57Speaker 6: of them just offensively, and what kind of defensive details
- 6:01Speaker 6: does your group need to be aware of with them?
- 6:04Speaker 7: Well, they've got some people that can score. There's no
- 6:07Speaker 7: question about it. They move the puck well. We're going
- 6:11Speaker 7: to have to be solid. We're going to have to
- 6:12Speaker 7: be solid in our structure, and we're going to have
- 6:14Speaker 7: to take away their time and space.
- 6:16Speaker 5: What do you like about Mackie and Maddie together?
- 6:19Speaker 7: Well, I like the speed of Mackey. I think it
- 6:22Speaker 7: goes well also with Jared McCann on the left side
- 6:25Speaker 7: as well. I think certainly Matty, he can transport the
- 6:32Speaker 7: puck through the neutral zone, and I feel like Mackey
- 6:35Speaker 7: does a good job of getting himself available, certainly wide
- 6:37Speaker 7: with speed.
- 6:39Speaker 8: With Brandon Montour coming in last year around this time,
- 6:42Speaker 8: he's coming off an injury, and then he had his
- 6:44Speaker 8: brother passing away. I mean, now... Things have changed a
- 6:48Speaker 8: little 12 months later. Do you notice any difference in
- 6:51Speaker 8: his demeanor? Do you notice it impacting him in a
- 6:54Speaker 8: positive way that he can come in?
- 6:55Speaker 7: Well, I thought that, you know, I thought his demeanor
- 6:59Speaker 7: for everything that he was going through last year was
- 7:02Speaker 7: really good. You know, it's a credit to him, his character,
- 7:06Speaker 7: you know, the kind of person he is. I mean,
- 7:10Speaker 7: you can maybe see there's a little bit of weight
- 7:13Speaker 7: off his shoulders, so to speak. you know, you'd have
- 7:16Speaker 7: to ask him that question. But, you know, we've elevated
- 7:21Speaker 7: and asked, you know, him and Vince Dunn to, you know,
- 7:24Speaker 7: join the leadership role wearing the assistant captain. And I
- 7:29Speaker 7: think he's done a good job of trying to pull
- 7:31Speaker 7: everybody into the fight. I like what he did the
- 7:33Speaker 7: other night against Vegas.
- 7:34Speaker 5: Todd McClellan talked a lot about your relationship this morning.
- 7:38Speaker 5: Just you had dinner last night and talked about coaching
- 7:41Speaker 5: things and this goes back 30 something years, right? Like,
- 7:44Speaker 5: like what have you learned from Todd? What's your relationship
- 7:47Speaker 5: been and what is it now?
- 7:49Speaker 7: Well, yeah, no, Todd and I, uh, we do go
- 7:51Speaker 7: way back. We're Saskatoon guys. Um, you know, and certainly, uh,
- 7:56Speaker 7: I think he's, I think he's a brilliant coach to
- 7:59Speaker 7: be honest. Um, you know, there's always challenges when you
- 8:02Speaker 7: play a Todd McClellan team. He's had a lot of
- 8:04Speaker 7: success obviously throughout his career. Um, and we talk a
- 8:09Speaker 7: lot and, We share ideas a lot. Mostly he shares
- 8:13Speaker 7: his with me because he does have a lot of
- 8:17Speaker 7: knowledge and a lot of experience, but we definitely do
- 8:22Speaker 7: talk a lot over the course of a season.
- 8:24Speaker 1: So it's on to Detroit, never a Fitzhugh's old stomping grounds,
- 8:27Speaker 1: where the Kraken are looking for their first win in
- 8:30Speaker 1: three years. That happening last at Little Caesars Arena back
- 8:33Speaker 1: on October 24th of 2023 when the Kraken came back
- 8:37Speaker 1: down 4-3 on a game-tying goal by Jared McCann with
- 8:40Speaker 1: 1.22 to go in regulation before Jordan Eberle put it away.
- 8:45Speaker 1: with five seconds remaining in sudden death overtime. The Kraken
- 8:49Speaker 1: will see Detroit for their two matchups both in this month,
- 8:53Speaker 1: and the Red Wings have been through quite the spin
- 8:56Speaker 1: cycle of the news cycle in the last few months,
- 8:59Speaker 1: starting with Steve Iserman stepping aside from his position as
- 9:02Speaker 1: GM to the trade request of Dylan Larkin, who then
- 9:06Speaker 1: came back after injury to make his season debut Tuesday
- 9:09Speaker 1: and not just score a goal but earn first star
- 9:11Speaker 1: of the game honors here. in the Red Wings' first
- 9:13Speaker 1: win of the regular season over Ottawa, and the lingering
- 9:17Speaker 1: doubt over Simon Edmondson's future, the big, burly, and promising
- 9:22Speaker 1: standout defenseman right now back home in Sweden, in the
- 9:25Speaker 1: middle of a contract standoff with the Red Wings, who
- 9:28Speaker 1: is right now also an unsigned restricted free agent, and
- 9:31Speaker 1: the topic of trade talk across the NHL. We had
- 9:36Speaker 1: Max Bultman from The Athletic on with us in our
- 9:38Speaker 1: recent edition of Kraken Weekly, and here's a part of
- 9:41Speaker 1: that conversation beginning on the current state of the Red Wings.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Confusing.
- 9:46Speaker 4: I mean, it's a team that was in first place
- 9:49Speaker 4: in its division in late January of last season. They
- 9:52Speaker 4: spent the better part of the last three to maybe
- 9:55Speaker 4: even four years really trying to emerge from a rebuild.
- 10:00Speaker 4: and have never quite been able to get there, but
- 10:02Speaker 4: have always kind of been on the doorstep. So you
- 10:04Speaker 4: enter last offseason and you're thinking the state of the
- 10:07Speaker 4: Red Wings is still trying to get over the hump.
- 10:10Speaker 4: But with all the uncertainty that has come up since then,
- 10:14Speaker 4: I don't know that we can say what a clear
- 10:16Speaker 4: direction is. I'm sure that certainly in that locker room,
- 10:20Speaker 4: they are thinking that way. They are thinking like, hey,
- 10:22Speaker 4: we need to improve. We need to try to make
- 10:24Speaker 4: the playoffs, get over the hump. It's a little hard
- 10:28Speaker 4: for me to see it, though, given A, how good
- 10:31Speaker 4: the Atlantic Division is, and B, all that uncertainty that
- 10:34Speaker 4: is there.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Now, you have a night like last night. And I
- 10:37Speaker 2: say this on Wednesday.
- 10:38Speaker 4: So Tuesday night, Dylan Larkin returns to the lineup and
- 10:43Speaker 4: has a couple of points.
- 10:44Speaker 2: They get a win.
- 10:45Speaker 4: I'm not saying it was normal, but it was the
- 10:47Speaker 4: most normal it's felt in a while around here. I mean,
- 10:50Speaker 4: you're having sell the team chance on the first two
- 10:52Speaker 4: home losses of the season. I don't know that I
- 10:56Speaker 4: can give you a two word state of the Red
- 10:58Speaker 4: Wings right now because there is so much going on.
- 11:02Speaker 4: I think there is definitely a, a feeling from players
- 11:05Speaker 4: like they want to try to focus on hockey and
- 11:08Speaker 4: come together and then play and then push. But it
- 11:12Speaker 4: does feel like everything around them is an obstacle.
- 11:17Speaker 2: To all of that.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Recapping what happened with Dylan Larkin, who was a face
- 11:22Speaker 1: of this franchise, a Michigan-born player as well, and it
- 11:25Speaker 1: seemed kind of like the perfect marriage and perfect fit
- 11:28Speaker 1: going back into the 2015 season when he was a
- 11:32Speaker 1: fresh-faced rookie. Then he begins to accumulate more and more success.
- 11:37Speaker 1: He gets all the way to the Olympic stage, wins
- 11:40Speaker 1: a gold medal, and then we see everything as far
- 11:43Speaker 1: as this come to a head with tearing apart at
- 11:47Speaker 1: the seams. He officially asks for his trade request and
- 11:50Speaker 1: then The press conference goes down, and here we are,
- 11:53Speaker 1: as you mentioned, from Tuesday night, comes right back off
- 11:56Speaker 1: of injury for his first game of the season, scores
- 11:59Speaker 1: in his season debut, and also gets named the first star.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Of the game.
- 12:03Speaker 1: How much has this maybe shifted the dynamic with how
- 12:07Speaker 1: Larkin is viewed around these parts right now and how
- 12:09Speaker 1: this could maybe forecast his future depending upon if he
- 12:13Speaker 1: stays or where he goes?
- 12:15Speaker 2: I think the.
- 12:17Speaker 4: fact that fans saw him play and play hard and
- 12:21Speaker 4: stick up for his teammates and score.
- 12:23Speaker 2: I think that matters.
- 12:25Speaker 4: I don't think it erases everything else. Um, but I
- 12:29Speaker 4: don't think anything was ever going to erase everything all
- 12:32Speaker 4: the way.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Right. And so is.
- 12:34Speaker 4: It, uh, has it fundamentally changed the nature of the situation?
- 12:39Speaker 2: I don't believe so.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Not at this time, but has it given me more
- 12:43Speaker 4: of a thought that something like that could be.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Possible in time? Yeah, I think I'm kind of open.
- 12:48Speaker 4: To that being the case now in a way that
- 12:51Speaker 4: I don't know that I would have really believed had
- 12:53Speaker 4: you tried to sell me on a week or two
- 12:56Speaker 4: even ago. I mean, there was such reaction after Larkin's...
- 12:59Speaker 4: He hadn't spoken about it all summer, and he had
- 13:01Speaker 4: the press conference to start a training camp, and fan
- 13:05Speaker 4: reaction to that was not good.
- 13:06Speaker 2: And at that point, I thought, oh, this is going
- 13:08Speaker 2: to be an issue all year. But I also don't
- 13:11Speaker 2: know that fans were expecting... what they saw out of
- 13:15Speaker 2: Larkin in game one. I think, you know, I've.
- 13:18Speaker 4: Covered Dylan my entire career and this guy loves hockey.
- 13:22Speaker 2: He plays hard. It's who he is.
- 13:23Speaker 4: It's why he was such a valuable piece of that
- 13:25Speaker 4: team USA. If he was out there, he was going
- 13:28Speaker 4: to play and he was going to play hard.
- 13:30Speaker 2: And I, that's exactly what he did.
- 13:32Speaker 4: And so, you know, there's a lot that can go
- 13:34Speaker 4: into everything around this.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I'm not going to speak for Dylan.
- 13:38Speaker 4: He hasn't spoken about it himself about, you know, what
- 13:41Speaker 4: really was motivating this, but I do think, when you
- 13:45Speaker 4: look at the situation from the outside and you see
- 13:47Speaker 4: a player who has spent, you know, his entire career
- 13:50Speaker 4: with this franchise, he hasn't been to the playoffs since
- 13:52Speaker 4: his rookie year. He's been at the center of this
- 13:55Speaker 4: rebuild that he's gone through a lot of, uh, a
- 13:58Speaker 4: lot of lows with this franchise and stuck around through
- 14:01Speaker 4: them all. Um, I can understand how it, when someone
- 14:04Speaker 4: kind of gets into their thirties that, you know, maybe
- 14:07Speaker 4: winning would become feel really urgent in a way. And again,
- 14:11Speaker 4: I'm not saying Dylan has said that this is me
- 14:13Speaker 4: kind of reading the situation. And then there's also the
- 14:15Speaker 4: reality that he and Steve Eisenman, I don't think it's
- 14:18Speaker 4: a secret, kind of did have a difficult dynamic, especially
- 14:22Speaker 4: toward the end there. So I look at those things
- 14:24Speaker 4: and I think, you know, Dylan Larkin and the Red
- 14:27Speaker 4: Wings are aligned in that they want to win. And
- 14:29Speaker 4: the Red Wings fans are aligned in that. And I
- 14:31Speaker 4: think if that happens, I'm never going to say never
- 14:36Speaker 4: on anything of how I can see this playing out,
- 14:39Speaker 4: but that's something really.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Only Dylan, only residents at RMG.
- 14:42Speaker 4: And Sean Orkoff ultimately can speak to and ultimately can
- 14:45Speaker 4: have kind of control over.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Max Bultman joins us right now on the Beacon Plumbing
- 14:49Speaker 1: Hotline from The Athletic here on Kraken Weekly. Another name
- 14:52Speaker 1: who is right now out of the picture and still
- 14:55Speaker 1: is at this point is Simon Edmondson, a big, burly,
- 14:59Speaker 1: talented left-shot defenseman, first-round draft pick back in 2021. He
- 15:04Speaker 1: is an RFA right now, and he and the organization
- 15:07Speaker 1: are in the middle of a contract standoff. First off,
- 15:10Speaker 1: how much has he made an impact on that blue
- 15:13Speaker 1: line at just age 23? And to you, what are
- 15:17Speaker 1: the odds that he plays another game in Detroit?
- 15:21Speaker 4: I still think it's a fair chance of this. I mean, look,
- 15:25Speaker 4: no one's commenting on this situation from afar, but I
- 15:30Speaker 4: know the Red Wings have said pretty recently that they...
- 15:34Speaker 4: It's a priority to sign, as I said. It may
- 15:35Speaker 4: mean that they have to kind of get their heads
- 15:37Speaker 4: around what that number is. Obviously, him going back to
- 15:40Speaker 4: Sweden is a bad sign. It's a sign that things
- 15:43Speaker 4: really went off.
- 15:45Speaker 2: A cliff in a hurry.
- 15:47Speaker 4: But the thing I keep coming back to is that
- 15:49Speaker 4: if this was August and they were three weeks into
- 15:52Speaker 4: a negotiation and at a standstill, I don't even know
- 15:57Speaker 4: that we'd have heard about it. I mean, how often
- 15:58Speaker 4: does that happen in the course of summers is that,
- 16:01Speaker 4: you know, your first offer isn't going to be accepted.
- 16:03Speaker 4: And I think that the big difference here is that, A,
- 16:06Speaker 4: we have the visual of Edmonton being in camp one day,
- 16:09Speaker 4: being practicing with the Red Wings one day, and then
- 16:12Speaker 4: in Sweden skating with Ferlanda the next. And two, it's
- 16:16Speaker 4: that the player really did make a great faith effort
- 16:19Speaker 4: to come here with no contract, with no GM at
- 16:23Speaker 4: the time that he was, uh, well, I guess they
- 16:25Speaker 4: would have had a GM two days before camp open,
- 16:26Speaker 4: but only, only just having a GM to show up
- 16:30Speaker 4: to camp, uh, and, and play on a PTO through camp. And, uh, I,
- 16:34Speaker 4: you know, when you have a player make that kind
- 16:36Speaker 4: of overture and try to do something in kind of
- 16:38Speaker 4: the interest of a team like that to not, not
- 16:41Speaker 4: be behind, uh, and then the negotiations don't go well quickly.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Uh, that's another kind.
- 16:46Speaker 4: Of big factor that, that is impossible not to, not
- 16:49Speaker 4: to notice in all this. Right. So, I still think
- 16:52Speaker 4: there's a path to Edmonton signing in Detroit personally, but
- 16:56Speaker 4: nobody's really commenting, so it's hard to say that with certainty.
- 17:00Speaker 4: That's kind of my read on this. I still kind
- 17:03Speaker 4: of believe that at the end of the day, cooler
- 17:06Speaker 4: heads prevail here, and everyone sees that it is in
- 17:09Speaker 4: everyone's best interest to come to the right conclusion here,
- 17:12Speaker 4: which in my opinion is a long-term deal for Edmonton
- 17:14Speaker 4: and Detroit.
- 17:15Speaker 1: With Steve Iserman out, Sean Horkoff is in now as
- 17:18Speaker 1: interim GM. And also recently, Chris Draper, of course, a
- 17:22Speaker 1: longtime Red Wing great from those teams back in the
- 17:25Speaker 1: 90s and 2000s as well. He also experiences a shift
- 17:28Speaker 1: in his role more toward the pro scouting side. So
- 17:31Speaker 1: at this point, what are we learning about the change
- 17:34Speaker 1: in the voice in the front office and how this
- 17:36Speaker 1: also can wield some influence?
- 17:38Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think, you know, the it's the front
- 17:40Speaker 4: office that needed some change. And, uh, Corey Proudman, one
- 17:43Speaker 4: of our, uh, writers at the athletic reported that the
- 17:45Speaker 4: ribbons are also going to bring Mark Leach in, who
- 17:48Speaker 4: was a, uh, scout. He was previously the scouting director,
- 17:51Speaker 4: amateur scouting director for the Toronto Maple Leafs. But before
- 17:54Speaker 4: that he was, uh, he was with the Dallas stars.
- 17:57Speaker 4: And before that he was with the red wings and
- 17:59Speaker 4: then with the stars in a gym, no, which was
- 18:00Speaker 4: a franchise that has drafted quite well. So I think
- 18:03Speaker 4: that's a big name that they're adding to their front
- 18:04Speaker 4: office as well. Some of this other stuff, they're in flux.
- 18:07Speaker 4: You're going to have to do some moving around and
- 18:10Speaker 4: get some new perspectives on different departments and maybe some
- 18:14Speaker 4: new voices in high-level positions. Chris Draper, like you said,
- 18:19Speaker 4: will be going from overseeing the amateur to overseeing the pro. Look,
- 18:23Speaker 4: the pro scouting in Detroit has taken a lot of
- 18:26Speaker 4: hits over the last several years. When Mark Howe retired,
- 18:31Speaker 4: they never formally replaced him as their director of pro scouting.
- 18:35Speaker 4: They still had pro scouts, of course, but I think
- 18:38Speaker 4: having a voice like Chris Draper there, does that bring
- 18:44Speaker 4: some new perspective? Could that bring some kind of new structure?
- 18:47Speaker 4: I don't know what the result of it will be,
- 18:49Speaker 4: but I think trying something in that department makes a
- 18:51Speaker 4: lot of sense for what some of the Red Wings'
- 18:53Speaker 4: shortcomings have been over the last few years.
- 18:55Speaker 1: The Red Wings got their first win of the season.
- 18:58Speaker 1: over Ottawa back on Tuesday night, 5-3. Among the names
- 19:02Speaker 1: that we saw pop up in the score sheet, Victor Arvidsson,
- 19:05Speaker 1: he's been around here for quite a bit, but what
- 19:06Speaker 1: are we learning about the role that he could play
- 19:08Speaker 1: here on this team in the absence of Patrick Kane,
- 19:11Speaker 1: who is moving on back to his old team in Chicago?
- 19:13Speaker 4: It's the role that he was signed to play, which
- 19:15Speaker 4: is a top six scoring winger. Ideally, they would have
- 19:19Speaker 4: him I really helped their five-on-five scoring, which is an issue. Ironically,
- 19:22Speaker 4: I think both of his goals so far are on
- 19:23Speaker 4: the power play. But the Red Wings will take him
- 19:25Speaker 4: any way they can get.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Him right now.
- 19:26Speaker 4: This is a team that was shut out on opening night,
- 19:29Speaker 4: had two goals in their first two games. They have
- 19:32Speaker 4: the outpouring on Tuesday when Larkin comes back in the
- 19:35Speaker 4: lineup and score five. I don't know how many nights
- 19:38Speaker 4: this year they're going to be able to put five
- 19:39Speaker 4: on the board, but they're going to need Victor.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Arvidsson to be a big part of their attack. And
- 19:44Speaker 2: that's why they went and got him.
- 19:45Speaker 4: He's a guy that doesn't just score kind of the
- 19:48Speaker 4: pretty goal he can score from, hard areas, can do
- 19:52Speaker 4: it at five on five, can get to the middle
- 19:53Speaker 4: of the ice.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Those are all things that this Red Wings team needs.
- 19:56Speaker 1: That's Max Bultman joining us. And again, that full conversation,
- 20:01Speaker 1: by the way, up right now at the Kraken Audio

- 20:32Speaker 1: points in eight straight matchups against the Kraken. For the
- 20:35Speaker 1: record on the Kraken side, Jordan Eberle carries points in
- 20:38Speaker 1: four consecutive games. And with a goal or an assist tonight,
- 20:42Speaker 1: he will set a new benchmark in Kraken history for
- 20:45Speaker 1: longest point streak to open a regular season. And while
- 20:49Speaker 1: he's back in Michigan, former Wolverine Matty Beneers also on
- 20:53Speaker 1: the cusp of a milestone. One more goal or an
- 20:56Speaker 1: assist will make 200 points for his NHL career. A
