- 0:10Speaker 3: it's Liz Ellis. I'm not really the captain, but I
- 0:12Speaker 3: think I am AnyWho. That's a whole other argument. Don't
- 0:14Speaker 3: forget to get your tickets to our live show in

- 0:25Speaker 3: for your link to buy.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Okay, Hello and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where
- 0:42Speaker 2: we talk about netball and we talk a whole lot
- 0:44Speaker 2: of other things beside. My name is Carol and Swindell.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I'm in Sydney all alone today because my mates are
- 0:50Speaker 2: scattered around the country. So where are we?
- 0:52Speaker 4: Caath Cox is on the GC and it is gorgeous outside, everybody,
- 0:58Speaker 4: so let's make this quick.
- 0:59Speaker 1: The things to do?
- 1:01Speaker 2: Up to do? And where's the bus this week? Oh?
- 1:04Speaker 3: Look where I usually am? Well, actually not where I
- 1:06Speaker 3: usually am, but where I like to be which is
- 1:08Speaker 3: at home Bungelin Country.
- 1:10Speaker 2: It's fantastic, fabulous. Well, I'm happy to say that where
- 1:13Speaker 2: I am the sun is shining too so but I
- 1:14Speaker 2: don't have a tan like you, Cath. That is amazing.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Yeah. Well I have had a cheeky week in Bali
- 1:19Speaker 4: as well, and it might be a little bit fake
- 1:21Speaker 4: just to keep the glisten day now. Meanwhile, I want
- 1:24Speaker 4: to ask you a question, Carolyn, are you the most
- 1:27Speaker 4: excited person on the planet Because we have not spoken
- 1:30Speaker 4: about the Swift's big signing there is a premiership coming
- 1:34Speaker 4: your way.
- 1:35Speaker 3: That's a big call.
- 1:36Speaker 2: It is a big call, isn't it. I feel very excited.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I'm so excited that we're at the end of this
- 1:41Speaker 2: signing season and now we can have a proper conversation
- 1:43Speaker 2: about it. And yes, as a Swifts fan, I do
- 1:46Speaker 2: feel like this new netball year of ours is looking
- 1:49Speaker 2: bright and shiny. Mind you, I would have said that
- 1:51Speaker 2: twelve months ago though, so but you know, anything can
- 1:53Speaker 2: happen in the world of netball. I'll tell you what
- 1:55Speaker 2: I am excited about though today I believe because they're
- 1:59Speaker 2: only doing it every second, although they keep changing stuff.
- 2:01Speaker 2: My final book week that is my daughter is having
- 2:04Speaker 2: her last book week. No, this is good, this is
- 2:07Speaker 2: good news.
- 2:08Speaker 1: You're going out on a high. Then what's the costume?
- 2:11Speaker 2: She went as Film of the Unicorn, which is actually
- 2:14Speaker 2: a book that came out after she was of the
- 2:15Speaker 2: age to read it. But it's something that we could
- 2:18Speaker 2: stitch together. I said, we're not ordering a costume online.
- 2:20Speaker 2: We're not going to get onto one of those places
- 2:22Speaker 2: and order. You have to pull this together. So we
- 2:25Speaker 2: went to the two dollar shop and we bought a
- 2:27Speaker 2: lot of landfill. But she and she's got this glittery
- 2:32Speaker 2: too too that she's wearing. And so my house now
- 2:35Speaker 2: is just glitter everywhere and it will be like that
- 2:38Speaker 2: for months to line it these things. Yeah though, but anyway,
- 2:41Speaker 2: so it's kind of a sad day, but mostly a
- 2:43Speaker 2: happy Oh.
- 2:44Speaker 3: I get that. I'm not a craft person at all.
- 2:47Speaker 3: I do wonder, though, in two thousand years time, when
- 2:50Speaker 3: whatever civilization looks like is sort of studying the downfall
- 2:54Speaker 3: of this particular civilization, about how much they'll allocate the
- 2:58Speaker 3: ruination of the planet to all the shit that gets
- 3:01Speaker 3: created through bookweek and put into those landfills. Hate. I
- 3:05Speaker 3: do hate book Week because I just hate that I
- 3:06Speaker 3: love books, don't get me wrong, I just hate the
- 3:08Speaker 3: stress of the costumes. So the two best things that
- 3:11Speaker 3: have ever happened to me for Book Week one is
- 3:13Speaker 3: when Evelyn was little, we were reading The Magical Far
- 3:17Speaker 3: Away Tree and they had Blyton books, and she decided
- 3:19Speaker 3: that she wanted to be sauceman Man. So we just
- 3:22Speaker 3: went to Viny's and bought every secondhand source and we could,
- 3:25Speaker 3: and I just strung them around her and she thought
- 3:26Speaker 3: it was the funniest thing that everyone heard her coming.
- 3:29Speaker 3: And then as she got a bit older, Maddie Prowd
- 3:32Speaker 3: wrote a book about a netball player called Grace, and
- 3:34Speaker 3: Evelyn went as a netball player for the rest of
- 3:37Speaker 3: her life. And now Austin goes, there's now like soccer
- 3:40Speaker 3: books for all the soccer players, and now he goes
- 3:42Speaker 3: as a souper player. And I feel zero guilt and
- 3:44Speaker 3: had a little effort I put into it.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Absolutely we are whatever is still left at cam Art
- 3:50Speaker 4: the night.
- 3:52Speaker 1: That's typically how it plays out.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Then I just tell Harper it was actually one of
- 3:56Speaker 4: her favorite books when she was growing up.
- 3:57Speaker 1: She can't remember.
- 3:58Speaker 2: We did a fantastic job seven or eight years ago
- 4:01Speaker 2: with my son. He went as Captain Underpants and we
- 4:03Speaker 2: made the book and so he went inside a book,
- 4:05Speaker 2: but when he stepped out, he was in a Captain
- 4:07Speaker 2: Underpants costume. It was one of my finest parenting my
- 4:10Speaker 2: actually it was one of Pete's finest parenting moments. But
- 4:13Speaker 2: as usual, I will take credit for it. But I'm
- 4:15Speaker 2: not sorry to see the back of this. And what
- 4:17Speaker 2: drives me insane as a pedant is the number of
- 4:20Speaker 2: kids going as something that that's not a book, that's
- 4:23Speaker 2: a video game or a movie or whatever. It's like, yeah,
- 4:27Speaker 2: and I think it should be and I know I'm
- 4:29Speaker 2: uptight whatever, I get the stick out of my ass,
- 4:31Speaker 2: but it's like, it should start as a book and
- 4:33Speaker 2: then become a movie. If it starts as a movie
- 4:35Speaker 2: and then becomes a book, it's not a book week
- 4:37Speaker 2: ready costume.
- 4:38Speaker 3: So you're saying no to all the Star Wars book
- 4:40Speaker 3: setting because they were a movie first.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Absolutely, because they were movies first. But then it's like, well,
- 4:45Speaker 2: read what you want to read, right, So I don't know,
- 4:47Speaker 2: I'm confusing myself.
- 4:48Speaker 4: It should be all about the most creativity that the
- 4:51Speaker 4: parents can show from whatever's in the house at the time.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Regardless of books, regardless of movies.
- 4:57Speaker 3: So Carolyn had comic strips books like you know, like Tintin.
- 5:02Speaker 2: No, I think that's that has started as printed matter,
- 5:05Speaker 2: so therefore I would say it qualies. So I'm already
- 5:07Speaker 2: backing off on my I know, I know, I understand
- 5:11Speaker 2: that this is problematic, but no, it's mostly problematic for
- 5:13Speaker 2: my poor husband.
- 5:14Speaker 1: You don't have to worry about it.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Can you imagine being the teacher or the person that
- 5:18Speaker 3: stands at the pedant, that stands at the front gate
- 5:20Speaker 3: and says, nah, to movie, go home, try again.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Nah.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I'd be like, yeah, excellently, come home, kid, Let's go
- 5:29Speaker 3: to the beach.
- 5:30Speaker 2: One of the things we did morph to at the
- 5:33Speaker 2: rather privileged public primary school that my kids are at
- 5:37Speaker 2: is that the Easter hat parade. They changed it about
- 5:40Speaker 2: ten years ago, and it's like, you kids make this here,
- 5:43Speaker 2: you bring some craft stuff. So it's not there's no
- 5:45Speaker 2: parents making these in you know, we don't have milliners
- 5:48Speaker 2: coming in and saying, oh, look what Daisy made for herself,
- 5:52Speaker 2: and it's like bullshit, she made it. So it's like
- 5:54Speaker 2: the kids make it in class. And I think that
- 5:57Speaker 2: is wonderful. I mean it's obviously half fast parade, but
- 6:01Speaker 2: that's good. It's theirs. It's half fast, but it's theirs.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Yeah, No, love that. More they can do by themselves,
- 6:06Speaker 1: the better. It's a life lesson.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Do you think we should move to them saying like
- 6:10Speaker 3: giving a heap of material to super Netball isn't saying
- 6:13Speaker 3: make your own uniforms so when you come.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I think more of them should just write books.
- 6:20Speaker 3: That is true. Yeah, I mean Maddie Brown's led the way,
- 6:22Speaker 3: But I'd like to see them all make their own
- 6:24Speaker 3: uniforms and see how they turn up in round one,
- 6:26Speaker 3: just like the same we there's no dribble.
- 6:29Speaker 2: We are leading by example, aren't we by making the
- 6:31Speaker 2: scrunchies that are now scattered around the country.
- 6:35Speaker 1: So we could make them, but they would fall off
- 6:36Speaker 1: as soon as you started running around.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Yeah, man, they'd be ordinary.
- 6:40Speaker 1: You have to pay extra for that, exactly.
- 6:47Speaker 2: All right. So there has been some interesting stuff happening
- 6:50Speaker 2: in the sun Corps super Netball world. Are we going
- 6:52Speaker 2: to get to that now or is there anything else
- 6:54Speaker 2: that's happened? Maybe has someone been asked to come out
- 6:56Speaker 2: of retirement?
- 6:57Speaker 3: God?
- 6:58Speaker 1: Yes, weird, I thought it too.
- 7:00Speaker 4: This will shock you, lizellis what So, Yeah, I got
- 7:03Speaker 4: a phone call from a lady in New Zealand who
- 7:06Speaker 4: had done some work with before, and they have done
- 7:09Speaker 4: a documentary series before about elite athletes pro athletes coming
- 7:14Speaker 4: out of retirement and going through the fitness regimes again
- 7:17Speaker 4: that they need to play one more game. But it's
- 7:21Speaker 4: a game at the top of the level. So I
- 7:23Speaker 4: think with the footballers they played against Australia, they did
- 7:26Speaker 4: all this training, they documented the whole thing, they had
- 7:29Speaker 4: fitness testing, they had to do all their weights, all
- 7:31Speaker 4: this sort of stuff to play one more game. And
- 7:34Speaker 4: I was like, oh, this is a pretty good excuse
- 7:37Speaker 4: to get fit again. One more game I could cope with.
- 7:40Speaker 4: But then when I spoke to them in depth, it's
- 7:42Speaker 4: the New Zealanders that do all the extra training. They
- 7:44Speaker 4: film that and the Australians just have to get themselves
- 7:47Speaker 4: to New Zealand to.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Play in the game in whatever shape.
- 7:50Speaker 4: I thought, No, if I'm going over there having to
- 7:52Speaker 4: play against ex silver Ferns who have been training for
- 7:56Speaker 4: three months, well that's a.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Hard no from me.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Do you see this? Every time the Olympics comes up,
- 8:01Speaker 2: someone writes, you know, I think for reference. We need
- 8:03Speaker 2: to just have a normal person competing in every event
- 8:05Speaker 2: in the Olympics so we can see how extraordinary they are.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Like that would be unfair for them to go back
- 8:10Speaker 2: to their training and for you to just be you
- 8:13Speaker 2: know what I have and I've just been to Bali,
- 8:14Speaker 2: but sure, let's put on a bib.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Can you imagine I've got mask kick by them at
- 8:18Speaker 4: the best of times. Though, I saw you saying, Bolt
- 8:21Speaker 4: running against some normal people and he was jogging and
- 8:27Speaker 4: he was half one hundred, like he's fifteen meters in
- 8:30Speaker 4: front of them, and they were absolutely flying. You could
- 8:32Speaker 4: see them trying like it would have been with us.
- 8:35Speaker 4: But he was jogging looking back almost like laughing. What
- 8:38Speaker 4: is going on here with these people? Why are you
- 8:40Speaker 4: so slow?
- 8:41Speaker 3: Have you seen that simulator? I saw it online and
- 8:44Speaker 3: basically it is this. It's like a treadmill, but it's
- 8:47Speaker 3: like fifteen meters long, and they set it up at
- 8:50Speaker 3: different running festivals and stuff in the United States and
- 8:53Speaker 3: it goes at the speed per kilometer that the person
- 8:56Speaker 3: who recently broke the marathon world come here the go
- 8:59Speaker 3: who got pace? Right? So he did it for is
- 9:01Speaker 3: it fifty two k or something like that forty twenty two, right,
- 9:04Speaker 3: So he ran this pace at forty two k and
- 9:07Speaker 3: they people got on and they could get on, and
- 9:09Speaker 3: they get it up to his speed and see how
- 9:11Speaker 3: long they could go for. No one lasted longer than
- 9:13Speaker 3: a minute and his average speed through the marathon for
- 9:18Speaker 3: forty two k people could to do it. And a
- 9:20Speaker 3: woman got on who had represented America in the four
- 9:22Speaker 3: hundred meters a few Olympics earlier, and she lasted the longest.
- 9:25Speaker 3: She went for like two and a half minutes and
- 9:27Speaker 3: then like tapped out. That was so can you imagine?
- 9:30Speaker 3: That is just freaking wow? Back to you, Catherine, do
- 9:34Speaker 3: you know that you know your problem is right though?
- 9:36Speaker 3: Because I see on Instagram people like Irene Van Dyke
- 9:39Speaker 3: and Temapara and all those players they're still super fit
- 9:42Speaker 3: because I think they did this show years ago with
- 9:45Speaker 3: rugby players who had got overweight and unfit and basically
- 9:49Speaker 3: use it to drop excess kids. Those women would have
- 9:51Speaker 3: three months to train and they'd be back to very
- 9:53Speaker 3: very close to what they were like when they were
- 9:55Speaker 3: at the absolute best. Says, no way you get on
- 9:57Speaker 3: the court against them.
- 9:58Speaker 4: I know, throwing law a Langman who decided to retire
- 10:01Speaker 4: and then take up CrossFit like she's an absolute beast.
- 10:05Speaker 1: But do you know what I did, Carol? And you'll
- 10:06Speaker 1: love this.
- 10:07Speaker 4: I thwarded the email on to Liz as well, so
- 10:12Speaker 4: they can see if they could get you out of retire.
- 10:14Speaker 3: I don't know if you saw my reply. I was like,
- 10:16Speaker 3: thank you, I'm busy. I was like, I read it, like,
- 10:18Speaker 3: I love that, Like you actually went back and forth
- 10:20Speaker 3: and showed some interest. I was like that thought of
- 10:23Speaker 3: playing against ir N fan Dyke again. I don't need
- 10:25Speaker 3: my back kicked by her. I get my back kicked
- 10:27Speaker 3: by life in metopause. I don't need herder add to
- 10:29Speaker 3: my woes. Where was like the last time I played
- 10:32Speaker 3: against her, I won and like that'll do me? I don't.
- 10:35Speaker 3: That was seventeen years ago on high. I still dine
- 10:38Speaker 3: out of it. I still make a living off it,
- 10:40Speaker 3: and I don't need that to change.
- 10:41Speaker 2: As a fan, I just want you both to know
- 10:44Speaker 2: I want to see this. I want you to do this,
- 10:46Speaker 2: and I think I speak for the Dribblers that we
- 10:50Speaker 2: would all like you to do this. I respect your
- 10:52Speaker 2: decision not to, but I would bloody love to see that.
- 10:55Speaker 3: I think what people would like to see is us
- 10:56Speaker 3: doing it in our prime. What you'd see now is
- 10:59Speaker 3: this pitiful.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I don't think New Zealand would like to see that.
- 11:02Speaker 2: I think New Zealand would very much like to see
- 11:04Speaker 2: you guys now getting flogged. And I think New Zealand
- 11:07Speaker 2: Netball of fans might need some things to feel happy
- 11:11Speaker 2: about it. At the moment, It's.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Been set up beautifully, isn't it.
- 11:13Speaker 3: It has Catherine and I would be a pitiful fact
- 11:16Speaker 3: similar to our former selves.
- 11:17Speaker 2: So no, anyway, speaking of New Zealand and netball, we've
- 11:24Speaker 2: touched on the oh good seaway. Yeah, thank you. I
- 11:27Speaker 2: appreciate it. And I'm looking at Air our producer, because
- 11:29Speaker 2: I know that we promised her that we would stop
- 11:31Speaker 2: and have a break after every segment. But I feel
- 11:33Speaker 2: like I've created the perfect segue and we're just going
- 11:36Speaker 2: to run with it. Right So Grace Neweki coming to
- 11:40Speaker 2: the Swifts, And what I also want to talk about
- 11:43Speaker 2: is the impact of this on New Zealand netball because
- 11:45Speaker 2: they have this rule where it means she can't represent
- 11:47Speaker 2: the Silver Ferns in the following year. And you know,
- 11:50Speaker 2: we've had conversations about international players and to me, this
- 11:54Speaker 2: just seems insane discuss I think the timing of this
- 11:58Speaker 2: is really smart from Grace because next year there is
- 12:02Speaker 2: no big tournament on New Zealand needs her.
- 12:05Speaker 4: I think everybody is well aware of the fact that
- 12:07Speaker 4: if they want to win anything, they need her in
- 12:10Speaker 4: the side. So this is a really good way for me.
- 12:13Speaker 4: I think firstly for her to get over here and
- 12:15Speaker 4: play in the best competition in the world she wants
- 12:17Speaker 4: to improve her game and good honor, because it's a
- 12:19Speaker 4: gutsy move to make to get on the plane come
- 12:22Speaker 4: to Australia, give up playing for your own country, having
- 12:25Speaker 4: said that she's not going to miss any major tournaments.
- 12:28Speaker 4: But I also think it puts a bit of pressure
- 12:30Speaker 4: on Netball New Zealand to think about this choice that
- 12:32Speaker 4: they're making and stopping players coming over, because what if
- 12:36Speaker 4: she does decide to stick it out for another year,
- 12:39Speaker 4: another season with the Swifts, and then she goes into
- 12:41Speaker 4: missing out on a Commonwealth Games or some big tournament
- 12:44Speaker 4: because she'd rather be over here trying to improve her games.
- 12:47Speaker 4: I think this is a really gutsy move from her,
- 12:49Speaker 4: a really brave move, and honestly, I think.
- 12:52Speaker 1: The Swifts have got a premiership in the bag. She's
- 12:54Speaker 1: exceptional already.
- 12:55Speaker 4: She's going to come over here and be playing against
- 12:57Speaker 4: the best in the world.
- 12:58Speaker 1: She's going to improve it a right of knots.
- 13:01Speaker 3: So Catherine, is she coming off a knee injury.
- 13:03Speaker 1: She's played a season though since then, so she's fit.
- 13:06Speaker 1: She's coming into it.
- 13:07Speaker 4: She did the knee at the World Cup, but she's back,
- 13:11Speaker 4: She's played a whole big season. She's I honestly think
- 13:14Speaker 4: you need to Carol and book your flights as soon
- 13:16Speaker 4: as they announced where the Grand Final is going to
- 13:18Speaker 4: be very good.
- 13:20Speaker 1: That is a big well do you think it is?
- 13:23Speaker 3: Though? She did a knee in twenty twenty three, but
- 13:26Speaker 3: she's had that season under a belt and so she's
- 13:28Speaker 3: made the call. I'll play Devil's advocate though for you.
- 13:31Speaker 3: So if you net for New Zealand, you've got a
- 13:33Speaker 3: broadcast deal, you've got sponsors, you want to make sure
- 13:36Speaker 3: you've got the best players available to you and their
- 13:38Speaker 3: leverage is playing for the Silver Ferns. So now players
- 13:41Speaker 3: have made that decision, you'd have to think that if
- 13:44Speaker 3: they've still got that rule coming in too. When the
- 13:46Speaker 3: Commonwealth Games are in twenty twenty six. Now we still
- 13:48Speaker 3: don't know if they've been confirmed in twenty twenty six,
- 13:51Speaker 3: but certainly the World Cup in twenty twenty seven. As
- 13:54Speaker 3: you say, Catherine, it's a smart choice to make now,
- 13:56Speaker 3: but players are going to have to start to make
- 13:57Speaker 3: those really difficult decisions coming up to the next World
- 14:00Speaker 3: up and netbor New Zealand probably have to do some
- 14:02Speaker 3: thinking about it as well. But the Silver Ferns at
- 14:05Speaker 3: their point of leverage right, and I can see really
- 14:08Speaker 3: they're in a difficult position because yeah, they want, they
- 14:11Speaker 3: really do need the Silver Ferns to be firing and
- 14:13Speaker 3: the best thing for that is to get those players
- 14:15Speaker 3: perhaps into the best netball league in the world, But
- 14:18Speaker 3: then that cannibalizes their domestic league and they've got broadcasters
- 14:21Speaker 3: and sponsors who who want the best players there as well.
- 14:24Speaker 3: So it's a bloody difficult position for them to be in.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Yeah, fully appreciate that. I mean, is it times you
- 14:29Speaker 1: go back to a trans Tasmin competition.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Mmmm, Well that's one of the options, isn't it. But
- 14:35Speaker 3: you have to talk about it. But the other option
- 14:37Speaker 3: is potentially that you know, Australia and New Zealand have
- 14:40Speaker 3: a conversation This is obviously my thoughts are not the
- 14:42Speaker 3: official thoughts of the Chair of Netball Australia, but you know,
- 14:45Speaker 3: maybe there's room to have a conversation about the timing
- 14:48Speaker 3: of the leagues. One could be early in the year,
- 14:50Speaker 3: one could be later in the year. I don't know.
- 14:51Speaker 3: There's lots of things that we could do to work
- 14:53Speaker 3: together to make sure that both countries get looked after
- 14:55Speaker 3: and get what they need.
- 14:57Speaker 4: But the interesting thing I guess off the back of
- 14:59Speaker 4: this is the flow on effect. Because the Swifts had
- 15:03Speaker 4: a position available for a goal shooter.
- 15:04Speaker 1: We know Danell Wallen was waiting in the wings.
- 15:07Speaker 4: For a spot and I think that was one she
- 15:09Speaker 4: probably had her eye on. She probably also had her
- 15:11Speaker 4: eye on the goal shooter position for the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Ramelda Aiken George is signed that so there was no
- 15:18Speaker 1: spot left for her.
- 15:19Speaker 4: The only spot left for her was with the Northern
- 15:22Speaker 4: Mystics in New Zealand because they've lost Grace Newiki. So
- 15:25Speaker 4: the flow on effect is really fascinating, isn't it When
- 15:28Speaker 4: there's only, you know, a few spots available for goal
- 15:30Speaker 4: shooters in the best competition and now she's.
- 15:33Speaker 2: A tough game of musical chance. It is in music stopping.
- 15:37Speaker 4: It really is, yes, stopping overseas for danel Wallen. She'll
- 15:40Speaker 4: be in New Zealand for the next season, So.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Liz is the common Off Games not confirmed for Glasgow?
- 15:45Speaker 2: I thought that was back on now I thought that
- 15:47Speaker 2: was a dundee.
- 15:48Speaker 3: It has been rumors, but I don't know that anything
- 15:51Speaker 3: has been one hundred percent confirmed yet.
- 15:53Speaker 2: God, because I wonder if that timing was interesting for
- 15:56Speaker 2: Grace too, that she signed it and then there was
- 15:58Speaker 2: this announcement that will maybe the Commonwealth Games will exist again,
- 16:01Speaker 2: because we'd all sort of thought, well, that doesn't exist anymore.
- 16:03Speaker 2: But anyway, all very exciting. One thing, though, Kat, do
- 16:09Speaker 2: you have an apology that you need to make publicly?
- 16:12Speaker 1: I've probably got a few. What's this one in regards to.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Well, when we were talking to Jess Rowe last week
- 16:20Speaker 2: and wasn't that a great chat?
- 16:21Speaker 1: Yeah, she's amazing. She's a goal shooter by the way, guys.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Well was she a goal shooter to start with? Though?
- 16:26Speaker 2: And when I was asking you to guess who she
- 16:29Speaker 2: was and her starting position was in wing defense, did
- 16:33Speaker 2: you say something a teensy bit negative about that?
- 16:37Speaker 3: Look?
- 16:37Speaker 4: It was my gut reaction to say loser, and then
- 16:40Speaker 4: afterwards I did feel a little bit of remorse. I've
- 16:44Speaker 4: got to say a little bit, So I will just
- 16:47Speaker 4: say wing defenses out there.
- 16:51Speaker 1: I don't think you're the most important on the court.
- 16:54Speaker 4: But I also that was too harsh, and I take
- 16:57Speaker 4: that back, and I think there is definitely a role
- 16:58Speaker 4: for you, and it's actually probably one of the hardest positions.
- 17:02Speaker 3: I'm going to stick up for wing defenders and say
- 17:04Speaker 3: that the only way a goalkeeper looks good is for
- 17:06Speaker 3: wing defenders doing a job out the front.
- 17:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Well, if I think.
- 17:09Speaker 4: About all the best players that I've played with, they've
- 17:12Speaker 4: all been wing defensers.
- 17:14Speaker 1: But that doesn't mean I have to like it.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to speak on behalf of wing defences worldwide, Catherine,
- 17:21Speaker 2: and I will accept that apology and say, we don't
- 17:24Speaker 2: really give a ship what the goal forts do for the.
- 17:27Speaker 1: No one ever does.
- 17:30Speaker 2: It was quite funny, though, when you took that mask
- 17:32Speaker 2: off and saw Jess looking at you, and then you realize, yeah,
- 17:34Speaker 2: I just said you're a loser.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Worse than that, I think I said she was an
- 17:38Speaker 4: old loser, you're ageist.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Yeah, she's everything.
- 17:45Speaker 3: She's agis, she's tallialist.
- 17:49Speaker 2: She's absolutely hiahist.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Yeah, she's a wing defenderist.
- 17:53Speaker 2: I'm wondering whether I'm in an abusive relationship and this
- 17:56Speaker 2: might not actually be a friendship at all, But anyway,
- 17:59Speaker 2: I will.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Work on that. I also have an apology to make
- 18:02Speaker 1: to you too. Me yes, because I did commit to.
- 18:06Speaker 4: Giving blood with you, and then I went to balley
- 18:09Speaker 4: and did what you do in BALLEI, well.
- 18:11Speaker 3: You've got to sexually transmit a disease.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Ended up in jail, all the things that screwed up.
- 18:20Speaker 1: No, actually, none of those. But I did get a tattoo.
- 18:24Speaker 1: I got a tattoo, I got some I know I'm
- 18:28Speaker 1: going to tramp step.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Did you get a big w D tattooed on your chest?
- 18:32Speaker 1: Wouldn't that be f.
- 18:35Speaker 4: Now? I did not, because it wouldn't be very big
- 18:38Speaker 4: if it was on my chest. Firstly, I got a
- 18:41Speaker 4: little harper in little running riding just on my ribs,
- 18:45Speaker 4: which is probably not really my ribs because there's a
- 18:47Speaker 4: bit of a layer over the top of it these days.
- 18:49Speaker 4: But I did vow that I would get one removed
- 18:52Speaker 4: if I'm going to be any getting any more. And
- 18:54Speaker 4: becoming a total bogan. I would get one removed every time.
- 18:57Speaker 4: So the cocks on the wrist that is meant to
- 19:00Speaker 4: help me be identified in any accidents is going to go.
- 19:04Speaker 2: So you're worried you're going to forget your daughter's name,
- 19:07Speaker 2: but you're now confident that you'll remember your own son.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Them all over it.
- 19:13Speaker 2: So you went and got a tattoo. And now you're
- 19:16Speaker 2: worried that you're not allowed to give blood.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I don't think you can for like a year.
- 19:20Speaker 4: Right.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Well, I know that there are very strict rules about this,
- 19:24Speaker 2: but I have happy news for you. I believe it
- 19:26Speaker 2: is now reduced to only seven days, so we could
- 19:29Speaker 2: go any day of the week. Now we could go.
- 19:33Speaker 2: We could get that tiny little needle injected into your
- 19:36Speaker 2: arm and you could have that warm in a glow.
- 19:38Speaker 4: Okay, well, oh god, I thought I got out of
- 19:40Speaker 4: it all right, I got a whole heap of needles
- 19:42Speaker 4: to get out of one needle.
- 19:43Speaker 2: You're going to love it. You're going to feel like
- 19:45Speaker 2: a legend. And then we're going to have a sausage
- 19:47Speaker 2: roll in a milkshow.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Yeah, the snacks, Well, if you guys do it in Sydney,
- 19:51Speaker 3: I will just go on the same day out here somewhere.
- 19:53Speaker 3: I think you have to book. I think it moves
- 19:54Speaker 3: around when you're living a regional area. So we'll find it.
- 19:58Speaker 3: I'll take Matthew, we'll go both go and do it together.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Now, something's happening on the weekend of the Well, we've
- 20:04Speaker 2: already talked about what's happening on the weekend of the
- 20:06Speaker 2: Test match of the Australia Diamonds Test Match. We're having
- 20:09Speaker 2: our event. But down in Victoria there is something going
- 20:12Speaker 2: on that I think we need to talk about. There
- 20:15Speaker 2: is an eighty four hour netball game going from Friday,
- 20:19Speaker 2: the twentieth of September through to sometime on the Sunday
- 20:23Speaker 2: or the Monday. I don't know. Someone do the maths
- 20:25Speaker 2: for me. When is eighty four hours end? And it's
- 20:27Speaker 2: only I think two teams, and it's a fundraiser, and
- 20:30Speaker 2: this is I know, this is a new level of
- 20:33Speaker 2: insanity in the netball world, and I love that.
- 20:36Speaker 4: I don't like this though, because Liz and I are
- 20:38Speaker 4: part of the world record for the longest game of
- 20:41Speaker 4: netball as it stands.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Are we well, tell me about that?
- 20:45Speaker 3: What's that record?
- 20:46Speaker 4: The oh actually you weren't there.
- 20:49Speaker 3: I didn't think I was. I think I was. I'd
- 20:53Speaker 3: think I was commentating in Delhi. Yes, yes, that might be.
- 20:57Speaker 4: Was it?
- 20:57Speaker 1: Oh God, I just can't remember anything now.
- 21:00Speaker 3: You guys went into double overtime in Delhi? Because I
- 21:02Speaker 3: remember Luke Darcy and I who were commentating it. We
- 21:04Speaker 3: had a meeting the night before and about fifteen times
- 21:07Speaker 3: we went over what would happen if we've got to
- 21:09Speaker 3: double overtime, so we knew what was happening in commentary
- 21:11Speaker 3: and he thought I was an idiot. And then the
- 21:13Speaker 3: next day it happened and I was like, see, this
- 21:15Speaker 3: is why. And I'm pretty.
- 21:17Speaker 4: Sure it was like eighty four minutes or something like that.
- 21:20Speaker 4: It's the longest game of netball.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Well, these guys are going to kill that.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Well, they're going to smash us.
- 21:25Speaker 2: That must have been exhausting for the wing defenses and
- 21:27Speaker 2: everyone in the center court and pretty much everyone except
- 21:30Speaker 2: the goal shooter.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Right.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Well, totally that's why I chose that position, but I
- 21:32Speaker 1: think I was also on the bench for half of it.
- 21:34Speaker 2: What I do want to do is tell you about this.
- 21:36Speaker 2: So it's Victoria's inaugural Netball Marathon. Will attempt to do
- 21:39Speaker 2: the unthinkable hold an eighty four hour that's three and
- 21:41Speaker 2: a half days. By the way, they've done the Mass
- 21:43Speaker 2: for Me netball match with only twenty four players, breaking
- 21:46Speaker 2: the world record for the longest netball game while raising
- 21:49Speaker 2: vital funds for Australian charities and leaving a lasting legacy
- 21:52Speaker 2: in the community. They are raising funds for and you
- 21:55Speaker 2: can choose from a bunch of charities beyond Blue Peter
- 21:57Speaker 2: McCallum Cancer Foundation, Food Bank, Victoria, Disability Sports Australia and
- 22:01Speaker 2: this is the Burrs Netball Club. So if you want
- 22:04Speaker 2: to support this, and why wouldn't you want to support this,
- 22:07Speaker 2: particularly if you can't get to our event, you should
- 22:09Speaker 2: be down at this event. Netball Marathon twenty four two
- 22:12Speaker 2: for dot Grassroots and that's roots with a Z, so
- 22:15Speaker 2: for the pedants like me, that's stressful. Netball Marathon twenty
- 22:18Speaker 2: four dot Grassroots dot com. Jump on board and try
- 22:21Speaker 2: to support that, because what a terrific thing to do.
- 22:24Speaker 1: A bunch of legends.
- 22:25Speaker 4: So tell, can you just clarify only twelve in each team?
- 22:29Speaker 4: Did you say twenty four in total?
- 22:30Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 22:31Speaker 2: I think that's got I.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Sat each team for that.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Twenty four players.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Yeah, oh my god, you die. They are amazing.
- 22:38Speaker 3: So when's it on? When's it start?
- 22:40Speaker 2: It is on Friday, the twentieth of September. That's someone's birthday,
- 22:44Speaker 2: FYI through to Tuesday, the twenty fourth of September. Imagine
- 22:49Speaker 2: what it's going to be like on that Tuesday morning.
- 22:52Speaker 2: How exhausted, Imagine.
- 22:53Speaker 4: The blisters, Imagine everything that's incredible. I can't even contemplate
- 22:57Speaker 4: doing that for that long with only twelve in.
- 22:59Speaker 3: A tea, you knowited to kill you. It wouldn't be
- 23:01Speaker 3: the physical stuffer. It to be the ability to concentrate.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Can I struggle for longer than twenty five minutes, let
- 23:06Speaker 3: alone twenty our.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Mess of falcons happening on that last day.
- 23:10Speaker 2: It would be the ability to care about it too.
- 23:13Speaker 2: I think like at that point you'd be going, I
- 23:15Speaker 2: am so done with this, all right?
- 23:18Speaker 4: Yeah, spathal for the umpires as well. They've got to
- 23:20Speaker 4: control that mess.
- 23:23Speaker 2: So each week we do our win. Beneath our wings,
- 23:25Speaker 2: we have got scrunchies that are winging their way around
- 23:28Speaker 2: the country at the moment. Sometimes we're sending them to
- 23:31Speaker 2: the person who did the nomination. Sometimes we're sending them
- 23:33Speaker 2: directly to the wind beneath our winger. But there's a
- 23:36Speaker 2: few people who we can't track down. So, Kathy McDonald,
- 23:39Speaker 2: you nominated Jules Ferlin from Tiger's Netball Club in the NT,
- 23:42Speaker 2: can you please make contact with us? And Liz Thomas
- 23:46Speaker 2: you nominated Judy Headlin from the s Netball Club. Could
- 23:49Speaker 2: you please make contact with us because we haven't been
- 23:51Speaker 2: able to track you guys down and we desperately want
- 23:53Speaker 2: to send you your handmade goodies. And let's be honest,
- 23:57Speaker 2: the Printhy wine voucher is probably the more sought after
- 24:01Speaker 2: of those two things, all right, So that eighty four
- 24:03Speaker 2: hour and Apple game, that is an amazing achievement. We
- 24:06Speaker 2: want all our ribblers to get behind it.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Well, maybe we should find out who is behind, like
- 24:12Speaker 3: who's organizing it, and they could be the wind beneath
- 24:14Speaker 3: our wings for this week, because I think this is amazing,
- 24:17Speaker 3: like what a what an effort, And so I think
- 24:20Speaker 3: the first thing.
- 24:21Speaker 2: You don't get the wine voucher for this by the way,
- 24:23Speaker 2: oh my.
- 24:23Speaker 1: God, we've done this so many weeks in a row.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Now I love it well, but I.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Think what I'm going to do is I'll get online
- 24:31Speaker 3: now and organize a no dribble donation to kick things off. Yes, great,
- 24:36Speaker 3: and yeah, and then they become the wind beneath our Wingers.
- 24:40Speaker 2: All right, so we're on to that. We need to
- 24:41Speaker 2: find out who is behind this, dribblers. We need you
- 24:45Speaker 2: to be keeping up the flood of nominations for the
- 24:48Speaker 2: wind beneath our Wingers, please, otherwise we'll have Lizzelli's making
- 24:51Speaker 2: a nomination every week just so she can get the
- 24:53Speaker 2: Printhy Wine voucher. So our beautiful country is covered with
- 24:57Speaker 2: wind Beneath our Wingers. We have every state represented, but
- 25:00Speaker 2: we know that we have not covered the whole nation
- 25:02Speaker 2: in terms of the people who are keeping our sport going.
- 25:04Speaker 2: So jump on our Instagram page, send a note through Facebook,
- 25:08Speaker 2: find us somehow make your nomination, particularly if you could
- 25:12Speaker 2: send us a voice note please, because as you all know,
- 25:14Speaker 2: it's lovely to hear from dribblers in their own words
- 25:17Speaker 2: and their own voices. So let us know who is
- 25:20Speaker 2: your wind beneath our wings nomination.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Elizabeth, I love the idea of a donation, but let's
- 25:25Speaker 4: put a link in our show notes so if anybody
- 25:27Speaker 4: else wants to donate.
- 25:29Speaker 1: As well for this cause, they can't do.
- 25:31Speaker 2: So that's great. When you say let's put a link
- 25:34Speaker 2: in the show notes, Kath, are you saying that you'll
- 25:36Speaker 2: do the tech behind that?
- 25:37Speaker 1: Absolutely not, because it would never happen.
- 25:39Speaker 4: I struggled to get my earphones in my laptop.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Oh dribblers, you have no idea how hard this is
- 25:46Speaker 2: for Cath. She's not in studio this week, but she
- 25:49Speaker 2: is so committed to the cause that she has worked
- 25:51Speaker 2: her way through the tech issues, and we commend her
- 25:55Speaker 2: for that.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Cauth wouldn't know a show note if she tripped over it.
- 25:58Speaker 3: But I question for you too, right, So I'm just
- 26:01Speaker 3: onto this website now about to make our donation. You
- 26:04Speaker 3: actually get to choose which charity you want to donate to,
- 26:07Speaker 3: So beyond Blue Peter McCallum Cancer Foundation, Food Bank Victoria,
- 26:11Speaker 3: or Disability Sports Australia. Any thoughts, Oh god, they're all great.
- 26:16Speaker 3: They are good.
- 26:16Speaker 2: They are all great, but I would say one is
- 26:18Speaker 2: about sports, So could we go perhaps with Disability Sport
- 26:21Speaker 2: Australia because we talk about sport and the.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Paralympics are kicking off this week too, so you know
- 26:27Speaker 3: it's a.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Kicking fantas so look, that's almost all we have time for.
- 26:32Speaker 2: I have been a head down, bum up. Now that's
- 26:34Speaker 2: a good visual image, isn't it. In rehearsals for my
- 26:37Speaker 2: Fringe Festival show in Sydney, which starts next week. It's
- 26:39Speaker 2: on Tuesday the third through to Saturday the seventh, and
- 26:42Speaker 2: there are still tickets available sits at the Sydney Fringe
- 26:44Speaker 2: dot com. Suitable employment is the show and dribblers. If
- 26:48Speaker 2: you put in Dribble at check out you will get
- 26:51Speaker 2: thirty percent.
- 26:52Speaker 3: That's great bargain.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Well, and Coxie, you're going to be there somenight.
- 26:56Speaker 1: I am coming. I don't know when I have to
- 26:58Speaker 1: ditch my child and then I'm.
- 26:59Speaker 2: There with fantastic. Keep your bells silent during the show,
- 27:05Speaker 2: would you?
- 27:06Speaker 3: When's that show again? Tell me the dates again?
- 27:08Speaker 2: Tuesday the third of September through to Saturday the seventh.
- 27:11Speaker 2: They have to work five.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Nights in a row. God, and you've got to do
- 27:15Speaker 1: the dribble on the Monday before too.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:17Speaker 4: Yeah, if you need an opportunity for last minute rehearsals,
- 27:21Speaker 4: the dribblers would laugh a little snippet.
- 27:24Speaker 1: No, I can't do that because then we won't come
- 27:26Speaker 1: to the show.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Yeah that's right. All right, Well that's all we've got
- 27:29Speaker 2: time for. So tonight it could be my last netble
- 27:32Speaker 2: training of the season as coach because this is semifinals
- 27:35Speaker 2: this week, so I wish my under eleven's well as
- 27:37Speaker 2: we go into the semi. It's still do or die
- 27:41Speaker 2: and then next week is the Grand Final. I will say,
- 27:43Speaker 2: we happily get my Monday evenings.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Yeah are you one v four? Two v three?
- 27:48Speaker 2: Yes, so we are two. We came in second and
- 27:50Speaker 2: we were walloped on the weekend. Actually, probably good timing
- 27:54Speaker 2: for my girls who've had a fairly easy run for
- 27:56Speaker 2: the past few weeks. So it's like, oh no, we
- 27:58Speaker 2: need to do this better. All right, Well that's all
- 28:01Speaker 2: we have time for. Thanks dribblers, thanks for joining us, Kat,
- 28:04Speaker 2: thanks for joining us from the GC.
- 28:06Speaker 1: That's the Gold Coast for those playing at home.
- 28:08Speaker 2: And Liz, where are you again?
- 28:09Speaker 3: I'm fast ath GC, just near Ballaner, so maybe maybe
- 28:13Speaker 3: the GC is far north Ballaner. Actually I think that's better.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Oh that's I think that's much better. That's what they
- 28:18Speaker 2: should put on the market and spend your holidays in
- 28:20Speaker 2: far North Salina.
- 28:23Speaker 3: I'll be all for that.
- 28:24Speaker 2: That's Cat Cox, that's Lizellas. I'm Carolyn Swindell here in Sydney.
- 28:28Speaker 2: We hope you have a great week. Thanks for joining
- 28:29Speaker 2: us Triple Thanks.
- 28:31Speaker 3: You our live event.
- 28:32Speaker 2: You don't Yeah,
