- 1:15Marcia Halper, Ladies and gentlemen, The American Broadcasting Company brings to its
- 1:22entire network one of radio's most unusual programs, Pat Novakh. Hi, sure,
- 1:53I'm Pat Novak, we hire. There's a sign out in front of
- 2:13my office reads that way Pat Novak for Hire. Oh, there's no way
- 2:19to dress it up. If you're in business down in the San Francisco waterfront,
- 2:23everything but murder is a parlor trade. If you rob a few graves,
- 2:27you can pay the rent, and nobody cares if you got sore eyelids.
- 2:30You get that way from winking at too many things. Oh, it's
- 2:35a good living if you don't run short of bail bonds and bends a dream.
- 2:39I discovered that Friday night, after the fight broadcast, I wound up
- 2:44in a little whiskey barrel on Powell Street. I had a Glasgow farmer out
- 2:47of the red when they closed the bar, and I drifted across the street
- 2:51for a cup of coffee. When I came out, it was raining and
- 2:54the street was deserted. I stood in the doorway and watched the dull neons
- 3:00through the rain. They looked splotched and dim, like watercolors rubbed with a
- 3:05damp rag. I was beginning to rain harder. I started out of the
- 3:09doorway when she ducked in and bumped up against me. Oh, I'm sorry,
- 3:15Yeah, just wait for your blockers on the next one. I guess
- 3:17I bumped into you. Don't go out on a limb. Huh, I'm
- 3:21very sorry. I guess I didn't know where I was going. It seemed
- 3:24to be headed in the right direction. How do you mean forget? I
- 3:28noticed raining awfully hard m I wonder if you ever noticed out when it rains
- 3:36you feel lonely and lost. Yes, that's it. How when it rained
- 3:40you feel lonely loss? Yeah? Well we're both great readers. So if
- 3:45you'll let me get by, I want to get a cap. I wonder
- 3:49if I could ask you something funny. The bars are closed. No,
- 3:53I meant coffee. I'll pay for it all right in here? Sure,
- 3:59come on, Connor will due? All right? What's gonna pay? Hey
- 4:04you're back again? Yeah, to coffee. I'm nervous too. Coffees.
- 4:10You're like a backclall. Maybe you know what we want? Two coffees?
- 4:14Yeah, be right, wordy, thank you. I know it's funny asking
- 4:19you in here, but I have to talk to someone. I don't know
- 4:25what I'm doing. I won't argue. Been away a long time, that's
- 4:30a long time. Yeah. The kids will be glad to see you're back.
- 4:32Stop it with you, says, get to the point. Put the
- 4:34show on the road. Yes, I think I've lost my memory. At
- 4:42least it seems that way at first. I don't know. I suppose you
- 4:47don't believe it. No, but I convince hard. Yeah, No,
- 4:51coffee, everything all right? Yeah, everything's fine. I'll be down ahead.
- 4:57Yeah, don't he thought of a name yet? Buster, you'd be
- 5:01crazy to believe me. This should be crazy, But I can't remember anything.
- 5:10Well, look, lady, if you've got amnesia, see the police.
- 5:12You don't believe me. I don't know. Maybe you are elevely,
- 5:15but if you're off your rocker, go to the police. But suppose there's
- 5:19something that happened before and the police would be looking for me. Please,
- 5:26would you try to help me? How bad are you? Do you know
- 5:29what town you're in? Yes? Have you been here before? Do you
- 5:31live here? I think maybe seems like a place I've been. All right,
- 5:38I'll put you in a cab. You go see the police. I
- 5:42feel funny. I think I'll go outside for a minute. I don't want
- 5:46Hilda or not. Please, I'm gonna see please hell mister. If girlfriends
- 5:59are yeah, any suggestions, No, she's your day? All right?
- 6:03Here, give me a hand with it. Where you're gonna take her?
- 6:06The hospitals an amnesia case. I hope your memory is good. Huh,
- 6:12you'll need it for answers. Your girlfriend's passed out for good? Don't tell
- 6:15me. I feel a postmister, you're gonna have to start over because she's
- 6:20all used up. That's good. You got a whaling wall, sure use
- 6:26the collar. I like call homicide. It didn't take twenty twenty vision to
- 6:42see I was in trouble. Maybe it was an accident, maybe it wasn't.
- 6:45I didn't have any idea why she keeled over there, but with a
- 6:47figure like hers, I know it wasn't old age. I called a homicide.
- 6:51Matt Hellman was going to be in the picture soon, and then I'd
- 6:55stand about as much chance as a cornfield and the stone quarry. Well.
- 6:59I went through the girl's stuff. She had no identification. There were a
- 7:03couple of snapshots of her, but no name. I told the waiter my
- 7:06name and where Hellman could find me. Then I got out of there.
- 7:11I looked up jack O Madigan, an ex doctor who liked his booze pretty
- 7:15well. Smart guy, but he used a mason jar for a jigger.
- 7:18I finally found him hold up and some after hours joined on Geary Street.
- 7:21He was talkative. Hello, Patsy, a small jug for mister novacuated.
- 7:29I want to talk to you, Jacko PEPSI. You shouldn't be here it's
- 7:31after hours. Yeah, look, JOCKO, I need some help. What
- 7:35do you know about amnesia? A temporary blessing? I thought I had it
- 7:40myself one stop it with you, but it just turned out to be a
- 7:43case of bad bourbon a peasants drink. I've decided get up the street level
- 7:47long enough for me to talk. I'm in trouble. Yeah, I met
- 7:50some blistered night who took a dive after one cup of coffee. I see
- 7:55she had amnesia, or she thinks she did. Oh she's dead. Why
- 7:58worry about amnesia to minor railment? Because hellman's gonna think I had something to
- 8:01do with it. She picked out my lap. Don't you see how it's
- 8:03gonna add up? I have high hopes. I gotta do something in a
- 8:07hurry. Why was she a nice girl? Yes? I guess so how
- 8:11come you met her? What difference does it make tell me about amnesia?
- 8:15Could she phony it? Maybe not for long? What makes you think she
- 8:18did? I don't know. She acted like a butterfly with a jag on
- 8:22and she headed straight from me. It just doesn't add no, what cell
- 8:26block? Can I find you? And you can get off your spine and
- 8:28go to work for me. You know the hospital circuit. Hit them all
- 8:31and find out everything you can about reason amnesia cases. How far back do
- 8:35I go until you find one of the jobs with this girl wat Jim Pashable?
- 8:39Where do I start? She like Noah when they told him to beat
- 8:41the flood. She's blonde, blue eyes, expensive clothes, how big?
- 8:46Its just the right size for a good dream. Start checking down and give
- 8:48me a ring at my place. No identification and she only said one thing
- 8:52when she fell something crude. No, she mentioned the Galvin the name of
- 8:56Hilda. That should be easy to trace. Sure, just look it up
- 9:00in the phone book. You will find it somewhere between Hellman and the homicide
- 9:05right lover. Well, there wasn't anything I could do for the next few
- 9:20hours except sublet from an Ostrich. I had to keep undercover because all I
- 9:24had to work on was a couple of snapshots and the girl named Hilda.
- 9:28Neither figured to get me out of this mess. Helman was bound to ask
- 9:31a lot of questions because I had as much business being with a dead girl
- 9:35as a lucky Luciana. When a finishing school. After I left Jocko,
- 9:39I took a sea car downtown and I went home to grab some sleep.
- 9:43When I walked in the apartment, the lights were out, and that didn't
- 9:46make any difference. Helman's badge was shining like a lake in Ireland. It
- 9:50was making himself at home with my ice cubes. Put the light on so
- 9:54I can watch it turn pale. All right, Helman, get to the
- 9:58point. Sure, who is your girlfriend? I don't know. She was
- 10:01the coy type. So are you a novak? You're gonna look good sucking
- 10:03your thumb in the gas chamber. I suppose your corner is full of good
- 10:07news. She died of an overdose of sleeping pills. The corner's reporter's murder.
- 10:11How about the space marks suicide? No, guys, you don't take
- 10:13sleeping pills. Then tour the town for a spot to take a nap.
- 10:16So she died in the coffee joint. What am I supposed to carry a
- 10:18stomach pump? You're supposed to tell me who she is. We'll go from
- 10:22there. I don't know, neither did she. I've got that down as
- 10:24a lie. You file out any way you want help, And she was
- 10:26amnesia. How are you novak? All right? Hire a medium, then
- 10:30I told you she came into the rest of the total stranger. We got
- 10:31social, but she died a total stranger. How are you going to prove
- 10:35it? I don't know. I know who she was. I wouldn't play
- 10:37footsie with you. I have to draw a map. She came in trying
- 10:39to sort out our marbles and never got there. I see, what did
- 10:43you find out? How about clothes markings? That's your department. How about
- 10:48laundry marks? I don't know. I guess she watched her own. Look,
- 10:50Novak, you're a big boy. Now you're in a spot. If
- 10:52you want to help, now's the time to do it. You've got everything
- 10:54I know. From here on. You work the ball downfield, all right.
- 10:56You just dandswer the doorbell from time to time. When you see a
- 11:01guy grinnin out there, that'll be me coming to pinch you for murder.
- 11:03Well that'll take lots of doing, mister, and lots of proof. You
- 11:05remember that. I'll try, novec, but I may get amnesia. Good
- 11:09night, big shot. Where Helman left, I backed into my head ache
- 11:24and went to bed. Oh sure I was in a spot now. The
- 11:28scorecard said murder, and I was the medalist on the first round. If
- 11:33the police didn't know who she was, that meant she had no record we
- 11:35could work on. I still had the funny hunch about that, you know,
- 11:39pulling a phony. But if it was phony, I was worse off.
- 11:46I had all the best arrows in town pointing to me, and once
- 11:48Helman began to build a case, I could throw away those vacation folders.
- 11:54I slept until about nine. The phone began to ring, and I rolled
- 11:56over, expecting to hear Gabriel on the other end of the line. It
- 11:58was just Jacko. Hello, novaktoking. This is Jocko. I've been working
- 12:05all night. We'll build a monument later. What'd you find out the morning
- 12:09papers is the girl was murdered. Yeah, Helman gave me a preview.
- 12:11What'd you find out at the hospitals. I've got a complete list of Amnasia
- 12:16victims. I know, more lost souls than a Hong Kong bartender. Yeah,
- 12:20most of them men trying to get away from the little woman. Well
- 12:24you're a big help, Jocko. Don't hang up to you hear about the
- 12:28girl? Go ahead. Nothing on file for the last eight years. In
- 12:33nineteen forty one, a seventeen year old girl walked out of California General Hospital.
- 12:39She hasn't been heard of since. How's the description fits like last year's
- 12:43bathing suit. She was Marcia Helper, the daughter of Emery Helper. Yeah,
- 12:48who's he? A pocket heavy guy down on Montgomery Street. I'll get
- 12:54right down and thanks, Jocko, you saved my life. Well, I
- 12:56hadn't intended to go that far. See you later. Well, it was
- 13:11my one chance, even if the odds looked bad. I called up Halpern's
- 13:13office and said he wasn't in the tium at home. It was listed for
- 13:18a place up on Pacific Heights, so I took a cab over there.
- 13:22When I walked in the lobby, I could tell old man Halpern was making
- 13:24as much money as you can without your own printing press. The apartment made
- 13:28Buckingham Palace look like something Georgia had picked up at a firesale. The doorman
- 13:33was a sober looking specimen, the kind of guy that breathes every other Tuesday.
- 13:37He gave me the fish eyes. I went up the elevator to the
- 13:39third floor. Halpern's apartment was at the east end. The butler showed me
- 13:43in and I waited in the living room. It was a real cozy place,
- 13:48about the size of a small rugby field. A door opened on the
- 13:52side, and two hundred pounds of regency oozed into the room like a wet
- 13:54ghost. The bunning I'm mister Taylor. I'm Novak, is helping mister helpon
- 14:01is a way on a business trip. I'm Mark Taylor, the family lawyer.
- 14:05I believe that's the phrase. Well, I'll drop by later. Huh,
- 14:09Perhaps I can help you. I take care of most of mister Halpin's
- 14:13business. Now. Did you know his daughter? Yes? Yes, it
- 14:18was quite tragic, that's what I hear. She was a victim of amnesia.
- 14:20She forgot all the details of her home. Must have been a temptation.
- 14:24Did the police ever do anything on her. The police were not advised.
- 14:28Mister Halpin had private detectives, but she was never found. Yes,
- 14:31it was quite tragic. You wear your mourning a long way, Taylor.
- 14:35She'd be about twenty five, now, wouldn't she. Taffy hair, blue
- 14:39eyes, nice figure. I believe she had leanings in that direction. Why,
- 14:43mister Novak, I think I may know where she is. You don't
- 14:48know what that would mean to this family. Mister Novak, you don't know
- 14:50what it would mean to me, mister Taylor. Here's a snapshot. Let
- 14:54me see it. Well, Taylor, this is not a B movie.
- 15:00This is a picture of Marsha Helpin. You sure I don't make many mistakes?
- 15:03Must know that? All right? If you've used up your quarter,
- 15:05she's downtown. I've got in touch with mister Helping. Right, it willn't
- 15:09take your time. She's dead. See when last night she got sleepy?
- 15:15But yeah, that's right. Somebody gave her enough sleeping pills to stock a
- 15:18drug store. I see, after all these years to come back and then
- 15:26this, It was almost tragic, Yes, says I was about to say
- 15:31that it'll be a great blow to mister Helping. It will be a very
- 15:35great blow to mister Helping. Have the police an the ideas a few?
- 15:41Do you know anybody named Hilda? Oh? Why, I'm just sweeping out
- 15:45the corner. When's Helping due this afternoon? I have arrange in a surely
- 15:48please hello, this is Mark Taylor. No, that can't be right.
- 15:58Well what did it have? And yes, yes, please keep me advised.
- 16:10You want to wear a purple suit? Taylor? I have bad news,
- 16:11mister Novak. Ratios, I'm lightheaded. Go ahead. Mister Halpin was
- 16:17killed in the motor accident last night. His cop plunged down a ravine a
- 16:19Sacramento. That's very strange. Yeah, it must have been a great blow
- 16:26to mister Helpert. Well, I left there and went downstairs. All the
- 16:42way down I had the funny feeling that something was wrong, the way a
- 16:47person feels when he goes into a doctor's office with an incurable disease. Mayam
- 16:52and Taylor, I don't know. He seemed all right. I still had
- 16:56that feeling that something was out of place, like a broken line. I'm
- 17:00a perfect picture. I crossed the street and called Helman. It was too
- 17:03early in the day because he was as sad as a tap dancer in moccasins.
- 17:07Helman, this is Novak. How's the case. You look better every
- 17:11minute? How's the identification? We're moving slow, so fine. We know
- 17:14she's a woman, that's right. Her name is Marcia Halpern. She disappeared
- 17:17in nineteen forty one with amnesia San Francisco. Yeah, she's the daughter of
- 17:19Emery Halpering. I will check with old man helping better. Send your best
- 17:22man because he rolled a car and killed himself last night, Sacramento. I
- 17:27got news for you too. Yeah, we got a statement from that waiter
- 17:30who wrote it. He says you bought that girl in for coffee. Also,
- 17:33you were nice and chumming. I knew her for five minutes, so
- 17:36that's a lifetime. The guy said you were good friends. That's the way
- 17:37our story's gonna read. You suit yourself. I'm busy. Yeah, where
- 17:41you're gone the same place you are, Helman, Sacramento. If I didn't
- 17:52move fast, I was deader than a Philadelphia nightclub. When they start taking
- 17:56statements, you can wear him for flowers. I called you told him to
- 18:00check up on old man Halpern's estate. I borrowed a car and drove up
- 18:03the Sacramento. The accident was just outside of there. When I got to
- 18:07the spot, Helman was already in charge. He's going to make a fight
- 18:11for the job. In last judgment, they were down on the ravine and
- 18:14Helman was beating around the bushes, making more noise than of aveneche and blind
- 18:17and a typhoon. Hello, Helman, did you find anything? Get your
- 18:22own haystack? I'm busy. Where's the body. You get the blues.
- 18:23If you don't see one corpse today, he's up in town. Do you
- 18:26notice those tracks up there in the road. Yeah, double tracks. Don't
- 18:30mean this thing was sure? Maybe two cars fell down and one got lost.
- 18:33Wake up Helman. If he drove over the side, he SHU had
- 18:33a tough time making up his mind. When you're through on that pipe,
- 18:37I'll send over another. I'm going over the car. Helman went over to
- 18:41the car and I started looking through the bushes. I don't know what I
- 18:45expected to find, maybe an old boy's scout. After about ten minutes,
- 18:48I shifted over the other side and it showed up right near the ground under
- 18:52a bush. Alman must have seen me, because it came right over.
- 18:56What is it? What'd you find my handkerchief? Oh that's funny, that's
- 19:02funny about it. So it's a handkerchief. The old man had a nose,
- 19:03didn't he. Well, he must have loved it to him. His
- 19:06hanky's loaded with perfume. Take off way up here, Yeah, recognize it.
- 19:11Sure, I don't know about you, but I smell a rat.
- 19:25Things began to move. This was the first break in a helmet. And
- 19:27know it I went back to town and I tried to get in touch with
- 19:30Jocko, but he was running up a tab somewhere. So I drove over
- 19:33to see Mark Taylor again. When I got to the apartment, I found
- 19:37out he wasn't in, but the pinch hitter was all right. When she
- 19:41opened the door, I got a nice, warm feeling, like a melded
- 19:44cheese sandwich. She was standing there in a dark silk evening gown. It
- 19:49was strapless, and she had no worries. When she spoke, it was
- 19:52like saying, put another log on the fire, good evening. Taylor in
- 19:59here, Come in sure, mister Taylor won't be in for a while.
- 20:04I'm waiting for him myself. I see. I'm Pat Novak. Is it
- 20:08urgent? Anything I can do? If it work, you'll get my vote.
- 20:14Who are you? I'm Hilda Travis. I'm a friend of the family.
- 20:17Which family would a drink? Take off the rough edges? Mister Novak?
- 20:19Good good, I'll make one. I brought Taylor a present. How
- 20:26nice a girdle? Maybe? Or am I being caddied? No? I
- 20:29hank at you this one? Do you like it? Should? I I
- 20:33thought you might want it for a keepsake. I found it in a ditch
- 20:36up in Sacramento, about ten feet from Emory Alpern. Poor Emory. He's
- 20:40a drink, thanks, poor Emory. Full of perfume. You want to
- 20:44smell that wouldn't do any good. You want to know if it matches my
- 20:48perfume. It's your idea. Go ahead, all right, no closer,
- 20:53that's it. See yeah, Tearley in the evening, mister fail back,
- 21:00don't love Hughes. I won't until I find out who killed Marcia Helper.
- 21:04Good luck for everybody's sake. By the way, the police think you killed
- 21:08her, don't they? Did Taylor brief you a little? I asked him
- 21:11this morning if he knew a girl named Hilda. He must have forgotten.
- 21:15Yeah, everybody's got amnesia just to make things easy? Did you kill her
- 21:18just to make them hard? Did you? I see? Well, just
- 21:21tell Taylor I called. Don't be a savage, mister Nolvak. You haven't
- 21:25finished her drink. It it's raining outside. I'll finished this one. That's
- 21:30good. Sit down beside me here, we'll finish our drinks and pray for
- 21:36a club burst. She turned out to be an old fashioned girl. She
- 21:56had about eight of them before I got out of there. I tried to
- 21:59pump her, but she wouldn't talk about Marcia Helfern. I just became a
- 22:02family friend. After I left, I ducked into a drugstore and started phoning
- 22:07Jacko. I finally caught him at the hunt room. He worked his way
- 22:10below the label already. Hello, Patchy, I'm having a wonderful time.
- 22:15Yeah, what'd you find out? I just heard a funny story? It's
- 22:18old? What about helping? He barely changed his will after the girl died.
- 22:22The whole estate goes to her. Who's next in line, A fellow
- 22:26named Mark Taylor. That's the new part of the will, drawn up three
- 22:30weeks ago. Good boy, jack So, I looked up the dope on
- 22:34Mark Taylor. He's a family friend. It's a new club going looks all
- 22:38right. Have some funny bank book stuff though. For instance, Oh,
- 22:44he drew three thousand bucks out last month for a Lisbon passage. A girl
- 22:48named Helen Dupray. Maybe she's a foreign cinema discovery. He's no talent scout.
- 22:55Meet me down in homicide in ten minutes, Jacko. If we're lucky,
- 22:57we'll show him in something, how to draw one inside straight, hurry
- 23:00up and don't stop for a bracer. Just see you soon. I'd explained
- 23:15everything I could to Helman. When Jocko got there, I went over it
- 23:18for him and sent him out on an errand he was to meet Helman and
- 23:22come up to Taylor's apartment. I went on ahead. It was about eleven
- 23:25o'clock when I knocked on the door. Mister Novak, so soon. Yeah,
- 23:30I'm coming in, Hello, Taylor. I won't say you're wearing out.
- 23:34You're welcome, mister Novak, but it's getting very thin. You better
- 23:37take time out and pack your bangs. Is that nice, Patsy? Because
- 23:41a guy named Helman wants you for murder. We've been over that once,
- 23:42mister Novak. Yeah. We got a whole new infield this time. Helman
- 23:45thinks you killed a girl named Helen Duprey. I don't know a girl named
- 23:48Helen du Pray. The bank botchers say yes, they say you brought her
- 23:52over here six weeks ago. Wait a minute, pats Oh, you made
- 23:53the team too, Angel. They got you all fixed up. Roll Man
- 23:56Helpern's case up in Sacramento. Get out of here, Novak. I left
- 23:59to drink here. I wouldn't want to jam this gun through your face.
- 24:03Come on in, helmet. Did you bring him with him? Yeah?
- 24:07Come in here. Fellow. Is that the girl? Yeah, that's her.
- 24:11What'd you see her before Sacramento last night? He's crazy? It's a
- 24:15plant, Mark Tellimore Junior. You sure she's the one? Yeah? She
- 24:18was on the road and I've seen her at the car with this old fellow.
- 24:22Hang on, lady, the road gets bumpy from here on. My
- 24:23lights were out, so cause she didn't see me. Take this little guy
- 24:26out of here. I got a story. A senior hit the old fellow,
- 24:30then start the car down the benk. I didn't hit him on the
- 24:33head. I told you that, Mark, Yeah, she indeed Tell him,
- 24:34Mark, tell him I was here? Oh can I when you tipped
- 24:37down? Met? That's right, Taylor, get out. Well, you
- 24:38can't tell him I was here. Mark, Well, you little fool.
- 24:41Don't you know you've told them already. You're a bum guy, Mark,
- 24:42you've been a bum guy all along. I keep my mouth shut. I'll
- 24:45give you a chance to talk. I'll tell you about him. No,
- 24:48back, shut up your little halfway. You're all right on the straightaway.
- 24:49But you're a bad guy in the curves market. Keep still tin horn punts
- 24:53like you. I'll talk lost. You'd better say it fast. Yeah,
- 25:02you get any prize in the house, tailor take your choice. Are you
- 25:06working for a living helmet? Ye? All right, then let's go Yeah,
- 25:11see you downtown over see all right, CHUCKO, I'm out of practice,
- 25:19will Patsy? Do you like it this way? Baby? No complaints.
- 25:26I've always gone for his class. I wouldn't like it the other way.
- 25:32Yeah, I could have used a little more time, but I'm not
- 25:36greedy. Still raining out, No, let's stopped raining, beginning to clear
- 25:45up and over come on, JOCKO, I'm talking to myself. Well,
- 26:15it seems that Marcia Halpern was dead for years. Somewhere on the other side,
- 26:19a girl named Helen Duprey got the story out of her. She looked
- 26:23a lot like Marcia Halpern, so she waited until after the war and contacted
- 26:27this Mark Taylor. They cooked up a hoax and the pot boiled over.
- 26:33She was a post of fake amnesia and stumble into the hospital. The pictures
- 26:38in the wallet would be printed. Mark would identify her as Marcia Halpern.
- 26:44The same night, they planned to kill the old man the way they did
- 26:48that way, Helen dou Pray and Mark could split the dough, but they
- 26:52figured it wrong. Another girl named Hilda Travers had this story too. She
- 26:57put the squeeze on Mark and he blundered. He found out he didn't need
- 27:03a phony Marcia Alfern. After all, the new clause in the will gave
- 27:07Mark the dough, so he loaded Helen du Pray with sleeping pills while Hilda
- 27:12gave the old man his last ride. All he had to do was wait
- 27:17for the dough and then split with Hilda. A few things went wrong sometimes
- 27:22it only takes one. Helen did her part, but she was no burn
- 27:26hard and then at the last minute she knew something was wrong and mentioned Hilda.
- 27:33I kind of began to wonder when Mark identified that picture so fast after
- 27:37more than eight years. He identified it immediately, And then there was that
- 27:42handkerchief from there, and it was free wheeling. All we had to have
- 27:48was a witness on that guy from Sacramento. He was some actor that Jocko
- 27:55picked up in the hunt room. Hellman finally cleaned up the mess Taylor's and
- 28:00the Clinton. Of course, the girl already picked up her into the check.
- 28:08She was nice too, if you don't mind claw Marks. Well,
- 28:15it all worked out and Hellman's happy, except that actor keeps calling him up
- 28:19for parts. The American Broadcasting Company has just brought you the third of a
- 28:37new series, Pat Novak for Hire, starring Jack Webb. Jack Omadagan is
- 28:42played by Jack Lewis. Inspector Hellman is played by Raymond Burd. Music was
- 28:48composed and conducted by Basim Ablom. This is ABC, the American Broadcasting Company.
- 29:00Welcome back. I just continue to enjoy listening to this series again the
- 29:07second time through Similaise just fly right through there and of course the great hard
- 29:12boiled narration. I know more lost souls than a Hong Kong bartender. Again,
- 29:22these episodes are classics for the dialogue and that definitely shows through. I
- 29:29did have to call bat on Hellman for not taking away the gun when he
- 29:34came in to arrest the guy since it was clearly visible. Of course,
- 29:38the part was played by William Conrad, who also announced for this episode.
