- 0:00Grand Touring Motorsports started as a social group of car enthusiasts,
- 0:04but we've expanded into all sorts of motorsports disciplines, and we
- 0:08want to share our stories with you.
- 0:10Years of racing, wrenching, and motorsports experience brings
- 0:13together a top notch collection of knowledge and information
- 0:17through our podcast, Brake Fix.
- 0:19All right, you guys ready for this?
- 0:24We're going to do it again.
- 0:26Set against the backdrop of post war Italy, Lamborghini, the man behind the
- 0:32legend, mirrors the complex transformation of Ferruccio Lamborghini's homeland.
- 0:37From his modest beginnings building tractors to the infamous rivalry
- 0:40he shared with Enzo Ferrari, his unparalleled genius made him a true
- 0:45icon in the automobile industry.
- 0:47However, his passions also ignited emotional turmoil in his
- 0:51personal life, which was full of both romance and tragedy.
- 0:55Told through a tightly constructed narrative style and imaginative
- 0:59visual design, this film is the true story of the man behind the machine.
- 1:05And with that, let's welcome back Steve from Everything I Learned From Movies,
- 1:09as well as our executive producer of The Drive Thru, Tanya, and Mountain
- 1:13Man, Dan, for this, what is going to be a beautiful crossover review of
- 1:19Lamborghini, The Man Behind The Legend.
- 1:22Yeah!
- 1:27Yes, I am Steve from Everything I Learned From Movies.
- 1:29Hey, everybody.
- 1:30Izzy couldn't make it due to a last minute scheduling conflict, but she
- 1:33did send a message that she would like me to read for everybody.
- 1:37It says, quote, This was a movie, and then it goes into caps, How
- 1:42dare they make Lamborghinis boring?
- 1:44Fuck that noise.
- 1:45Go watch Ford v.
- 1:46Ferrari instead.
- 1:48End quote.
- 1:48Well, that about sums it up.
- 1:49So that's our shortest episode ever.
- 1:52Thank you everybody for listening.
- 1:54Enjoy the rest of your day.
- 1:55Try the veal.
- 1:55We're here all week.
- 1:57Where do we even start with this dumpster fire?
- 2:00We needed Brad here so you could sing Lowered Expectations.
- 2:03Lowered expectations.
- 2:07No problem.
- 2:08Steve could do it.
- 2:09Yeah, see, I got this.
- 2:10Yeah.
- 2:11Well, all right.
- 2:12So, you guys mentioned this movie.
- 2:13I didn't even know this thing existed until you had mentioned it.
- 2:16It says it was released in November.
- 2:19Where?
- 2:20I don't remember seeing anything about it.
- 2:22Was it even released in theaters?
- 2:24Straight to Amazon Prime, I think.
- 2:25Yeah, Amazon Prime, and then Vudu picked it up.
- 2:28And that's the only two places you can find this thing at the moment.
- 2:31That's more than enough.
- 2:32I did a little research into this movie, because, you know, not hearing
- 2:35about it, it's like, okay, maybe it's like a visionary director from Maresco.
- 2:41Any of you guys know who that is?
- 2:43I do not.
- 2:43Who is that?
- 2:44I'll give you a hint.
- 2:45He wrote a couple episodes of that Lance Henriksen TV show Millennium
- 2:48back in the day that was awesome.
- 2:50Oh, really?
- 2:51And then he wrote Academy Award winning movie Crash.
- 2:55This is an Academy Award winning writer and director.
- 2:59Of Crash.
- 3:01And then also did like the TV series Crash spin off.
- 3:04Some movie called Tenth and Wolf that apparently was pretty good.
- 3:07Created a couple TV shows that lasted a season called The Black
- 3:10Donnellys and A Hundred Code.
- 3:11So what you're saying is he made Crash and then that's basically it.
- 3:15You get that award, you know, you can keep it forever, right Nick Cage?
- 3:18Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
- 3:20Okay, he also did a Colin Quinn comedy special in 2019.
- 3:24In 2018, there was a Carl Urban movie called Bent that also had
- 3:27Sofia Vergara and Andy Garcia in it.
- 3:30Never heard of it.
- 3:31And this.
- 3:32Wow.
- 3:33Wow.
- 3:33I mean, he might have been better off just going to Nicolas Cage's house and
- 3:38talking to him about his Lamborghini.
- 3:40If Nicolas Cage played Enzo Ferrari in this movie instead of Gabriel
- 3:44Byrne and his goddamn Scottish accent.
- 3:48Thank you.
- 3:49I'm so proud of this beautiful car.
- 3:51It's like a dream.
- 3:52What are you doing?
- 3:53It stands like he owns the world.
- 3:56You see my cavalino with my name on my own car.
- 4:00It's beautiful.
- 4:01He does.
- 4:02Thank you.
- 4:03Of all the people on the planet to play Enzo Ferrari.
- 4:08It would have been horrible, but we could have at least gotten like, I
- 4:11don't know, Al Pacino or Marlon Brando.
- 4:13I don't know.
- 4:14He's dead.
- 4:14The other one, the gold man is in everything.
- 4:17De Niro?
- 4:18Yes.
- 4:18De Niro.
- 4:19Oh, okay.
- 4:22It's like the other guy in the Godfather.
- 4:23Like there was like more than three.
- 4:24I know every.
- 4:25Body who could possibly be a Jason Italian was in Godfather.
- 4:28They could have used a regular Italian.
- 4:30They could have also recast the guy from Ford versus Ferrari who looked like Enzo.
- 4:34Gabriel Byrne and Robert Carlyle look more similar than he does to Enzo.
- 4:40It's like, it's so bizarre.
- 4:43And he didn't even try to put on an affect or an accent or anything.
- 4:47I mean, the acting was just so subpar.
- 4:49Ladies and gentlemen.
- 4:50There are more Academy Award winners in this movie because Mira Sorvino shows
- 4:55up as the second wife for the second half of the movie when they decide to
- 4:59just change actors halfway through.
- 5:01Has she done anything in the last 20 years?
- 5:04Since Romy and Michelle's high school reunion?
- 5:06I'm sure she has.
- 5:07I mean, it's probably stuff I haven't watched.
- 5:09And of course, Frank Grillo.
- 5:11Obviously he's going to play Ferruccio Lamborghini, you know,
- 5:14the guy from all the action movies.
- 5:16The only similarity he has to Ferruccio Lamborghini is the pompadour hairdo
- 5:21that they gave him because any mobster lounge singer from Las Vegas in the 70s
- 5:27could have easily played the part of Ferruccio Lamborghini in this movie.
- 5:30Yeah.
- 5:31This movie starts with questionable, but hey, you never know.
- 5:35It could turn out to be a really good movie.
- 5:37I mean, as ridiculous as the accents were on House of Gucci,
- 5:40allegedly, it's a good movie.
- 5:42I haven't seen it.
- 5:43But, you know, you got Lady Gaga and Adam Driver and stuff
- 5:47doing the bababooey bababooey.
- 5:49Little Jared Leto's in there, apparently.
- 5:52At least Lady Gaga has some Italian heritage, so give her that.
- 5:57Oh, okay.
- 5:57Well.
- 5:58That was it for that movie.
- 5:59At least Frank Grillo And I guess Mira Sorvino, technically.
- 6:03Well, I mean, yeah.
- 6:04At some point.
- 6:06Yeah, I do like that they weren't going like full Mario
- 6:09and Luigi with the accents.
- 6:10I mean, obviously Gabriel Byrne just did whatever.
- 6:13But they weren't even trying, because I think those younger actors
- 6:16were actually maybe like Italians.
- 6:17I'm like, you have the worst Accents!
- 6:21Looking at the cast, everybody else in this movie is, like, Italian.
- 6:24Like, their names are, like, They all end in vowels, yeah.
- 6:27Enzo Scarappucci, or, you know, it's like a goddamn menu,
- 6:31looking at the cast, right?
- 6:33Do you like your spaghetti with meatballs or without, you know?
- 6:37Good lord.
- 6:37You guys may be wondering How much do I have to pay to watch this?
- 6:40If I want to watch it tonight, it was six bucks on Amazon.
- 6:44It wasn't a lot on voodoo either.
- 6:46So it's not like we're breaking the bank to watch this.
- 6:48To your point, it was captivating.
- 6:50It's like, there's plenty of movies about Ferrari.
- 6:52There's plenty of stuff about Porsche and other races and whatnot.
- 6:55But when you see Lamborghini, it's like, Oh my God, we got,
- 6:58we got to check this out.
- 7:01Yeah, exactly.
- 7:02Right.
- 7:02And you're like, so I got to give it some credit.
- 7:05Despite the weird race, which we'll talk about as we go along the opening
- 7:09scene, the flashback to Chianto, Italy, you know, which is a suburb
- 7:13outside of Molden on things like that.
- 7:15I was like, cool, this is going to be a neat little, like we're going
- 7:18to start at the beginning and we're going to work through this and so on.
- 7:22It fell apart.
- 7:23Like almost right away you mentioned the race like we start off and we see aged
- 7:29Frank Grillo with the chalk in his hair and Gabriel Byrne they're like in their
- 7:33respective Lamborghinis and Ferraris at a random red light start that race.
- 7:39We're going to cut back to this just randomly for like 10
- 7:42seconds throughout the movie.
- 7:43Like anytime it's like, scene change, we're going to get
- 7:46a couple seconds of that.
- 7:47And maybe even the same one from the last scene change.
- 7:50Oh, you noticed that too?
- 7:52Yeah.
- 7:53But wait, do we address?
- 7:55The elephant in the movie now, or do we wait, we wait, we wait, yes,
- 8:01there's a lot of continuity problems with this movie that be more specific
- 8:05for me, but yeah, there's a thing that happens in that scene that, like, you
- 8:11should just end watching the movie.
- 8:13All right, so I have to ask because I'm not in any way knowledgeable
- 8:17of the history of Lamborghini.
- 8:19So how much.
- 8:20Of this was true because from someone who has no knowledge wasn't
- 8:23hateful for this, what it was, I guess, presenting as a biopic, but
- 8:28I was like, I don't know how much.
- 8:30Why do you want to wait?
- 8:31Eric did not cover this.
- 8:32I mean, this just sets the tone for the whole movie.
- 8:35Just go go for it.
- 8:36Eric.
- 8:36I don't know.
- 8:37But can I guess that how much of it is true?
- 8:39Sure, go ahead, Steve.
- 8:40I was surprised that Ferruccio Lamborghini didn't direct this movie.
- 8:47I assume, maybe it was his son, like, actually wrote it, and like, no,
- 8:52no, I need an Academy Award winner guy to help out, blah, blah, blah.
- 8:55Because it's a weird tone, though, because This is what happens when
- 8:59writers stop writing and they use chat GPT to develop a screenplay for a movie.
- 9:05No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 9:06Chat GPT would have gotten this right.
- 9:08Because when chat GPT goes, in what year did Enzo Ferrari die?
- 9:14It would have found the answer to be 1988.
- 9:17Making it impossible for Enzo Ferrari to be racing Lamborghini in 19 F ing 92.
- 9:23Oh my god, really?
- 9:25Yes.
- 9:25The ghost of Enzo was in that Ferrari apparently.
- 9:31Ferruccio Lamborghini died in 1993, a year after the supposed drag
- 9:36race occurred between him and Enzo.
- 9:38Well that makes sense because, spoiler alert, at the end of this movie
- 9:42Apparently that was all a fucking dream.
- 9:46I assume a Jacob's Ladder situation.
- 9:48He just imagined it on Death's Door.
- 9:51He also was 95 when he died.
- 9:53So he was a damn good looking 94 year old in that scene.
- 9:57Yeah, that was a sexy 90 year old right there.
- 10:00Wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 10:01Ferrari was 95?
- 10:03No, Ferrari was dead for four years.
- 10:06Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:06Well, okay.
- 10:07Wait, so he was 45 during World War II?
- 10:11When he came back from World War II?
- 10:13Enzo Ferrari, most people don't realize, was born in the 1800s.
- 10:17Oh, okay, but wow, wow.
- 10:20Ferruccio was in his 80s when he died.
- 10:22Yeah, there you go.
- 10:23Yeah.
- 10:23What brings that full circle to Dan's point about how accurate this is?
- 10:28If you did what Tanya and I did, which was painstakingly sit through
- 10:32the credits, there's actually a blurb at the end of the movie that
- 10:36basically says, all of this is fake.
- 10:38All of this is made up.
- 10:40All characters are fictitious and are not based in any reality, blah, blah, blah.
- 10:44Pretty much, because it's not officially licensed, sponsored
- 10:47by Ferrari or Lamborghini.
- 10:49And I mean, it's got this big disclaimer at the end.
- 10:51Then how can they use the fucking logo?
- 10:53Okay, alright, alright.
- 10:54I don't know.
- 10:55Alright, so chapter one, Dreams.
- 10:59World War II, I guess, just wrapped up.
- 11:01We're in Cento, Italy.
- 11:02Some, I don't know, 18 year old kid hops off the bus, returning
- 11:06home to his palatial vineyard.
- 11:09But apparently he was in his mid 40s.
- 11:12When this happened, and Italy at that time would have been just decimated.
- 11:16Oh yeah.
- 11:17Post World War II, especially right at the brink, it was famine.
- 11:21I mean, our grandparents as an example, they left Italy because there was nothing.
- 11:25And they were in the breadbasket of Italy where all this took place.
- 11:29Now, obviously Enzo started his company.
- 11:32You know, Ferrari in 1947.
- 11:34So they were making progress.
- 11:36Rebuilding was happening.
- 11:37Reconstruction was happening, but it was not this beautiful vineyard in Napa
- 11:42Valley that they showed in the movie.
- 11:45And let's fact correct.
- 11:46So we're not as bad as the movie.
- 11:48Cause I was misspeaking, confusing Enzo Lamborghini, Ferrucci Ferrari.
- 11:53So he was Lamborghini was 77 when he died.
- 11:57So he was 29 at the end of World War II.
- 11:59Okay, late 20s.
- 12:00All right, I'll buy it.
- 12:02But the kid in this movie looks like he's 18.
- 12:04He's probably like 21, 22 or something.
- 12:07But it's totally like fresh faced like, Oh, I'm going to
- 12:10propose to my first girlfriend.
- 12:12It's going to be great.
- 12:14That is not quite that out of an accent, but we were trying
- 12:17to figure that out as well.
- 12:18Was she German?
- 12:19The actress was.
- 12:20Yeah.
- 12:21Okay.
- 12:21Yeah.
- 12:21Cause the accent was very wrong.
- 12:23It was very access powers.
- 12:27I mean, they had to make her stand out.
- 12:29I mean, whatever.
- 12:30Different parts of Italy can make arguments.
- 12:32There are blondes in Italy, but a lot of the run there in the mid forties though,
- 12:37like just hiding out there in Italy.
- 12:39Yeah.
- 12:40So yes, he comes home to open arms.
- 12:44Yeah, including his father's, uh, who owns this palatial vineyard.
- 12:48And the family is doing quite well for what should be a war ravaged
- 12:52Italy, but he's trying to find his purpose and basically like, Hey,
- 12:57I'm going to build some tractors.
- 12:59All right, cool.
- 13:00Half the price and twice the power.
- 13:02It's I can engineer it.
- 13:03I did it in the war.
- 13:05Okay, cool.
- 13:05Cool.
- 13:06So that's where the first inconsistency starts with me.
- 13:09I could be corrected by our listeners, but the way I understood the story,
- 13:13the beginnings of Lamborghini and why he wanted to build the
- 13:16tractor was because he had gone.
- 13:19to Ferrari, who was already building tractors, and he
- 13:23wouldn't sell Ferruccio a tractor.
- 13:25So he said, screw it, I'll build my own.
- 13:28Did Ferruccio not have money?
- 13:30That part of the story I don't know, but what I understand about the rivalry
- 13:33between Ferrari and Lamborghinis, it started much Earlier and a lot of people
- 13:37are like, wait, Ferrari built tractors.
- 13:38Well, I got news for you.
- 13:39We did an episode on this Porsche built tractors too, because back in those days,
- 13:44post war war two, the only companies under all these rules, especially with American
- 13:48occupation was that engineering companies or auto manufacturers were the only ones
- 13:53that could build that type of equipment.
- 13:54Yeah.
- 13:55Makes sense.
- 13:56Here we go again.
- 13:56Right?
- 13:57So there's already this inconsistency here with the racing stuff and,
- 14:01and the tractors and whatnot.
- 14:02I'm like.
- 14:03Whatever.
- 14:03How's he gonna finance starting this tractor company?
- 14:05Uh, first I got the winner of this first race, but it's not gonna be
- 14:08me, it's gonna be my friend Mateo.
- 14:10And, you know, I'm just gonna help him build a car, it's gonna be great.
- 14:13But we don't have a car.
- 14:14I know, I'm gonna build it!
- 14:15But what is the whole thing, like, how are you gonna pay for it?
- 14:17It's like, you know, a man who has no debt has no reason to work.
- 14:21Yeah, I was like, what?
- 14:22I was like, that's an interesting idea, okay, alright, alright.
- 14:25I get it.
- 14:26You know, it's funny because I'm fact checking some of this.
- 14:29Oh, no.
- 14:30And that BS racing scene where then like, he's like ripping the steering
- 14:34wheel out of the other guy's hand.
- 14:36Like, I'm like, how, what the?
- 14:37Oh, my God.
- 14:38Nevermind.
- 14:39Apparently that never happened.
- 14:40But what he did do is built that car and then entered it into
- 14:44the Mille Miglia race in 1948.
- 14:46Uh, that's not what that race was.
- 14:49No, not at all.
- 14:50That was like a race around the church.
- 14:52Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:53Yeah.
- 14:53This was like the church cookout.
- 14:55Oh, by the way, we're going to have the kids race go karts kind of a setup.
- 14:59Because up until that point, I was like, all right, suspension of disbelief.
- 15:02We're going to take some artistic license.
- 15:04I turned to Tanya immediately when I saw the Porsche and the Benz.
- 15:08And I said, those cars are wrong.
- 15:09And she's like, what do you mean?
- 15:10And I said, that three 56 is like a three 56 B from like the
- 15:15late fifties, early sixties, that Mercedes, the 300 SL convertible.
- 15:20They were using that car.
- 15:21Didn't even come out until 1952.
- 15:23And it didn't look like that.
- 15:25So I was like, this is all freaking wrong.
- 15:29That's where it just, again, started to completely fall apart.
- 15:32This movie had such potential.
- 15:36You see what I mean about the W 1 94 big grill and logo, and then no bumpers?
- 15:40No nothing.
- 15:41Yeah.
- 15:42I don't remember what it looked like in the movie, but I'm pretty
- 15:44sure it doesn't look like a W 1 94.
- 15:46No, Mercedes doesn't.
- 15:47No, but I'd have to watch it again, but that would mean I'd
- 15:50have to watch the movie again.
- 15:52I'm gonna do that.
- 15:52No, no, don't do that.
- 15:54No.
- 15:54Not worth it.
- 15:56After they lose that race because he just yanks the fucking wheel for some reason.
- 16:01I don't even know why.
- 16:02He's like, you're gonna miss the turn.
- 16:04He's like, no, I'm not.
- 16:04I'm fucking driving.
- 16:06You're like, oh, no, dude, miss it.
- 16:07Ah, they go off the road, whatever.
- 16:09One more thing about that race.
- 16:10It's a lot like trading paint.
- 16:12Did they go over 20 miles an hour at any point?
- 16:14No, not at all.
- 16:19They did a little bit of fast and furious shifting constantly though.
- 16:22Oh yeah.
- 16:23Yeah.
- 16:23They didn't have like the 12 gear engines, like a semi truck or anything.
- 16:28Oh no, it was so terrible.
- 16:30I don't know what was worse, the modern race or that race, but we'll go back
- 16:34to the modern race many times over.
- 16:36Oh, we will.
- 16:37Ferrari's like a, they're at race day to like announce, we want to
- 16:40congratulate everybody, but it's like, he's full fucking Scottish.
- 16:43Like, it's like, all right, boy.
- 16:45Oh, we've got a fun race day ahead of you.
- 16:48So bad.
- 16:49Top of the morning.
- 16:52Yeah, so then, uh, I don't know.
- 16:53It's 1946.
- 16:54You just said something important, Steve.
- 16:561946.
- 16:57Uh huh.
- 16:57But I was confused about the year, and I wrote it down several times,
- 17:01and I have some notes, actually.
- 17:02Is it 46?
- 17:03Is it 47?
- 17:04Or 48?
- 17:05Yes.
- 17:05And the reason I asked is they say Enzo's about to start
- 17:09his company, da da da da da.
- 17:121947 he was still with without for a male and all that stuff up until that
- 17:15point But then if you looked at the newspaper in the background, it said 1948.
- 17:20So which is it?
- 17:22There was like this whole inconsistency and the New Year's was like going
- 17:26into 1946 I think somebody said so it's like was the race really that
- 17:30long Is that how long it took to do like 250 miles is like 18 months?
- 17:34Shouldn't have no, it just made no sense at all.
- 17:38So here we are to your point, New Year's we're with the girlfriend.
- 17:41I, at first I thought they were singing karaoke or something.
- 17:44Cause they were just up there, like with the band singing and blah, blah, blah.
- 17:46And I'm like, wait, was Lamborghini also like part of a musical troupe,
- 17:49like singing, uh, Big band songs or something that's like, Oh,
- 17:53no, it's just a new year's thing.
- 17:54And blah, blah, blah.
- 17:55I turned to Tanya and I said, where's the accordion?
- 17:59I was missing.
- 18:00It's Northern Italy.
- 18:01There's gotta be a squeeze box in this band.
- 18:03I mean, it's, it's not right.
- 18:05And the girlfriend's German.
- 18:06She has to have one.
- 18:07Doesn't seem period appropriate not to have it.
- 18:09Exactly.
- 18:10But yeah, we get the whole like, Oh, I love you forever.
- 18:13Me and my, my single friend, Matteo.
- 18:16We're like a, a, a thruple.
- 18:18We're, it'd be nothing but happy days forever and ever.
- 18:21And I'm like, all right, one of them's dying soon and the
- 18:23other one's just going to leave.
- 18:25I don't, not sure which is which because I don't know the
- 18:26story, but I know this story.
- 18:29I'm not trying to be like whatever, but I think he was in
- 18:31a relationship with his nose.
- 18:33Because they cast the guy with the biggest schnoz they could find
- 18:37that sort of looked and sounded Italian to play this Matteo guy.
- 18:40Did you notice?
- 18:41He turned and I was like, holy crap, it's Adrian Brody.
- 18:44Like, it's like, yeah, yeah, the Matteo friend.
- 18:48I actually like had to look it up.
- 18:49Like, is that Adrian Brody?
- 18:51I mean, it looks too young, but yeah.
- 18:55Oh yeah.
- 18:55So then we cut forward to some time and uh, the girlfriend's like walking in with
- 19:00breakfast and I'm like, Wait, it's 9 p.
- 19:02m?
- 19:02Breakfast for like, late dinner kind of a thing?
- 19:05I don't know, it was a weird But somewhere in that breakfast,
- 19:07they got married, right?
- 19:08Because it's suddenly They lost the race and it's like, Oh cool, you lost a race.
- 19:13Whatever, you have to get money some other way.
- 19:15I don't know.
- 19:15Believe in your dreams!
- 19:16And then he's like, Well, I had this idea about a rowing machine.
- 19:20You know, so people can work out and stuff.
- 19:22And I'm like Is this a thing?
- 19:25Nordic Track by Lamborghini.
- 19:27Also he pulls out, oh god, what were those things Chuck Norris and
- 19:30Christie Brinkley sold in the 80s?
- 19:32Bowflex.
- 19:32Bowflex, that's it, yeah.
- 19:34What about your rowing machine idea?
- 19:37That was a good one.
- 19:38Nobody needs to lose weight.
- 19:40All the women got skinny during the war.
- 19:43I might need one in, I don't know, eight, nine months.
- 19:48I said I might need a weight loss machine in about nine months.
- 19:51I told you, I was thinking.
- 19:53She's having a baby, you fool.
- 19:55W WHAAAAAT?
- 19:58Yeah, so then he goes to, uh, the Banca de Santo, and he's standing
- 20:01outside the bank looking at it.
- 20:03I just see, like, in his head, like, he's looking at it
- 20:05like, this looks like a bank.
- 20:06Like, that's the only thing I can assume he's contemplating with that expression
- 20:10on his face, looking at the bank.
- 20:12He's like, huh, ain't that weird.
- 20:13There's a bank here.
- 20:15Next to the church next to where you're building the tractor, right?
- 20:19I mean, come on.
- 20:20Yeah.
- 20:20I mean, it is Italy, so everything would be next to each other.
- 20:23What do you need a car for when you can walk?
- 20:25That's how it works, right?
- 20:26They deny him, so then he goes to talk to his dad.
- 20:28His dad, who has this palatial vineyard.
- 20:31That has, I guess, been in the family since the 8th century or
- 20:34something, I don't know what.
- 20:35But he's like, Dad, I need money.
- 20:37And then the dad leaves and comes back with one of those,
- 20:40like, Danish cookie tins.
- 20:42Right?
- 20:42That I expect him to open and have, like, a bunch of spools of yarn
- 20:45and shit or something in there.
- 20:48Little bit of thread, like, I noticed your, uh, suit was a little shabby,
- 20:51I thought I'd pitch that up for you.
- 20:52No.
- 20:53Right?
- 20:53But instead, it's a bunch of cash, and I love how, uh, Frucio's response
- 20:57is just like, It's not enough, Dad.
- 20:58It's not enough.
- 20:59So he mortgages His family's farm for, I guess, enough money to make one tractor.
- 21:06And I'm like, okay, so he's a selfish dick.
- 21:09I mean, it's a huge risk, for sure.
- 21:12That's what his wife thought.
- 21:13The wife is the voice of reason.
- 21:15She's like, that's very selfish.
- 21:16You need to take this money back now and give it to your father.
- 21:18And he's like, I don't think it works that way.
- 21:20And I'm like, you know, he's got a point there too.
- 21:22I don't think that's how it works.
- 21:24He's go back to the bank, hand it back and like, look on
- 21:26second thought, nevermind guys.
- 21:29On top of the fact that like during that time, I can't imagine how stressful
- 21:34making payments post war would have been.
- 21:37Yeah.
- 21:37A fresh mortgage.
- 21:38It's like the timing of that is like complete insanity when I was watching.
- 21:41It's like, what do they think?
- 21:42Not only that, what money was there to borrow?
- 21:45Italy was bankrupt.
- 21:46I don't get it.
- 21:47Oh, you could get wheelbarrows of that stuff.
- 21:49It just didn't mean anything.
- 21:50Of course.
- 21:52I mean, it looked like the vibe of the town.
- 21:54And like, when he went to the bank and everything, it was as if there
- 21:57had been no war that devastated an entire country and countries.
- 22:01I will say they did paint the picture that it was like the Dolce Vita
- 22:04times, like the early 60s, where they had reconstructed and life was
- 22:08turning around and things were good.
- 22:10And Northern Italy was.
- 22:11Doing what it does to keep things going, especially for food and
- 22:14for industry and all that, but war torn Italy barely a year.
- 22:18Let's say after the war was over, everybody was destitute.
- 22:22Here's another part of the movie that I was waiting to come in
- 22:25at this point too, because.
- 22:26It's the family farm.
- 22:28We know he has brothers that work on the farm and like all these other
- 22:31people, the farm has been mortgaged.
- 22:33The brothers and sisters and everything have nothing to say on the subject.
- 22:36Nope.
- 22:37They're not even in the movie other than like in the background
- 22:40plucking grapes and shit.
- 22:41Oh, they ran out of money for that part of the cast.
- 22:43They had to dismiss all them.
- 22:44So for me, we started building the tractor.
- 22:47I'm curious how he could market something that was just other companies, parts
- 22:51that he hodgepodge together to create it.
- 22:53This is Italy.
- 22:54Well, I don't know why you're asking that question.
- 22:56I mean, come on, man.
- 22:57Seriously?
- 22:58How dare you talk about eBay that way?
- 23:02They went to a salvage yard and got like a truck chassis and cut it down.
- 23:07I think they did bend some tins for like the hood and stuff.
- 23:10Now, when we do get to the part where he is building the tractor and suddenly
- 23:14he can afford a garage in the middle of town across from the church that
- 23:18they raced around and all that that mock up that they built in there.
- 23:22If you look up the history of Lamborghini tractors does look like
- 23:26the original Lamborghini tractor.
- 23:28So whether or not.
- 23:30The final product in the movie was one from a museum or something like that.
- 23:34Neither here nor there, I didn't even bother to look.
- 23:37That at least they got right.
- 23:38It wasn't like, Oh, we got a John Deere and sprayed it orange, which I took
- 23:42issue with the spray guns that they were using and the air compressors.
- 23:45And I'm like, Oh, whatever.
- 23:47Anyway, no, but apparently fact checking.
- 23:50So he was getting parts.
- 23:52I really was getting them from some sort of government.
- 23:55military entity.
- 23:56And so he was buying like old military stuff and that's how
- 23:59he was making the tractors.
- 24:00And then the engines all came from Morris trucks.
- 24:03And in whatever that fuel thing is, like he actually like invented that himself.
- 24:07Yeah.
- 24:07I was, I was intrigued by the dual fuel, like starting it off
- 24:10one and switch to the other.
- 24:11Cause I know some of the old farmhalls are run like that.
- 24:13I wasn't sure how true that was, but it was definitely an interesting.
- 24:17You know, what I did appreciate is that he used copper and that's a family tradition.
- 24:23So now I see that it's an Italian thing.
- 24:25It comes from Lamborghini, the use of copper in a vehicle, tractor, whatever.
- 24:30I mean, I was down on that.
- 24:31That was good.
- 24:32A hundred percent full send with the copper.
- 24:34Yeah.
- 24:34Always, always.
- 24:35So Steve, keep us going.
- 24:36Where are we at now?
- 24:37And this, this tragedy romance comedy that we're reviewing.
- 24:41Wait, now listen to this to just.
- 24:44Muddle the timeline even more if this is true.
- 24:47And I quote, Lamborghini was taken prisoner when the island fell.
- 24:52He was on whatever island of roads, territory, the kingdom of Italy back
- 24:56then when the island fell to the British at the end of the war in 1945 and was
- 25:00not able to return home until the next year, just in time for New Year's Eve.
- 25:05So he wasn't even home to what?
- 25:061946.
- 25:08Hopped in a race car and built a tractor.
- 25:09Boom.
- 25:10All in one year.
- 25:10Yeah, yeah.
- 25:11It was a very busy 18 months once he got back.
- 25:14Had a kid, didn't see a wedding.
- 25:16New German wife.
- 25:17But then his wife died in 1947, so Oh shit.
- 25:21Oh my god, what a mess.
- 25:23Oh shit.
- 25:24You know what the tractor was?
- 25:25It was a fucking time machine.
- 25:26That's why it's so muddled.
- 25:28It got all mixed around and so it like doesn't make sense really, but
- 25:31it's like These are the events as they happened, but then you like
- 25:35would forward back to the future.
- 25:37It was all part of a Ponzi scheme, I'm sure.
- 25:38It's whatever he was breathing in on that orange paint.
- 25:41Whoever the writers were, all they had to do was read Wikipedia.
- 25:44Yeah.
- 25:45To have gotten it like 80 percent correct.
- 25:48And the whole thing about this movie is like, you know, the Ford v
- 25:51Ferrari came out a couple years ago.
- 25:52Great flick, told a decent story.
- 25:54Yeah, they took some liberties with this and that, whatever.
- 25:57But this was supposed to be like, yeah, Lamborghini v Ferrari.
- 26:00That's not really the movie.
- 26:02Nope.
- 26:02It's more, how did Lamborghini be a dick his entire life, but become rich,
- 26:08and then, according to the story, made it all good in the end in a way?
- 26:12Or didn't?
- 26:12Who knows?
- 26:13Who cares?
- 26:14Like, Ferrari is a ridiculous side note in this movie, basically.
- 26:20They could have left Enzo out and it would have made a bit of difference at the end.
- 26:23With the fact that all of the facts and like details are so wrong on
- 26:27this, I didn't go to look to see if there were any reviews on this movie,
- 26:31but I'm curious if the only review would be on Snopes saying it's wrong.
- 26:34I've got a few.
- 26:34I've got critic reviews to uh, share with everybody too.
- 26:37It's going to be great.
- 26:38Oh yeah, yeah.
- 26:39As we get to the end and wrap this up.
- 26:40But you've now talked about the death of his wife.
- 26:42We're going there.
- 26:43So let's talk about the delivery of his son.
- 26:46Oh my god.
- 26:47The most realistic and gory part of the film.
- 26:50I would have thought this part was a part of a Bruce Campbell, Sam Raimi film.
- 26:54It was gross.
- 26:55I didn't understand why we needed to see, like, the red death.
- 27:00Like, what is this?
- 27:01It was pretty bad.
- 27:02And you knew something like that was going to happen.
- 27:04It was like, you know, our baby's being born tomorrow, so
- 27:08you can't stay working late.
- 27:09You're like, oh, don't worry, I won't.
- 27:11Guess what I would do?
- 27:12Take the day off.
- 27:13My baby is being born.
- 27:14What's going to happen to this tractor in six hours?
- 27:17Nothing.
- 27:18He had to wait to get the emblem plate for the fucking emblem.
- 27:23Guess what?
- 27:23It'll be there the next morning too.
- 27:25So that was another thing that baffled me about it because back
- 27:28during that period, it wasn't common for the fathers to be allowed in
- 27:32like the birthing areas and stuff.
- 27:34So unless Italy was different, cause I know in the U S it wasn't a common
- 27:38thing until probably the late sixties, early seventies where the men were.
- 27:41Welcome to come into the delivery room and stuff.
- 27:43Okay, I'll give you that.
- 27:44But still, just knowing he's there, like, when she's screaming Ferruccio from the
- 27:49dungeon or whatever that she's bleeding to death in, you at least hear back,
- 27:53I don't even remember what his wife's name is, Oh, Matilda, it's okay, it'll
- 27:57be okay, the doctor's all there for you.
- 27:59And then they squirt more blood out onto the table.
- 28:01Oh, so nasty.
- 28:02Yeah.
- 28:03So like, okay, she died, that's fine.
- 28:05It should be covered.
- 28:06However.
- 28:07That scene was so out of place with the rest of the movie.
- 28:12I was like, why did you have to depict her dying in childbirth
- 28:16as if we were watching Saw?
- 28:17I was waiting for Grissom and the rest of the cast of CSI
- 28:21to come out at the same time.
- 28:23Like, I don't understand.
- 28:25It was so vivid.
- 28:26It was Oh my god, it was like those sex ed health class birthing videos.
- 28:31I mean, it was just so dramatic.
- 28:33Yeah, all this is immediately after there's a scene where he's hanging
- 28:37out with his buddy Mateo like at a cafe and there's the bus that comes
- 28:40through town every day and there's this hot brunette chick that gets off and
- 28:43Mateo's like, Oh, she's so beautiful.
- 28:46I'm already in love.
- 28:47You're like, well, why don't you just go talk to her?
- 28:48It's like, I can't just talk to him.
- 28:50I'm like, this guy isn't fucking Italian.
- 28:52No.
- 28:53I have never seen an Italian person that's like, I can't just talk to her.
- 28:58It's more, I can't possibly not talk to her.
- 29:01Even if it makes her incredibly uncomfortable, I'm gonna
- 29:03talk to her just louder.
- 29:05So, so they did the whole Cyrano de Bergerac trope.
- 29:08Go say hello.
- 29:09Why should I?
- 29:10Because you like her?
- 29:11Maybe she doesn't like me.
- 29:12You'll never know if you don't talk to her.
- 29:14You go over.
- 29:15You let your mouth move.
- 29:17Any sense?
- 29:18Hello.
- 29:18Very good.
- 29:20Anita, say hello to my friend, Matteo.
- 29:23Hi.
- 29:24What he meant to say is, why don't you sit down and join us?
- 29:27I can't.
- 29:28I will be late for school.
- 29:29What do you study?
- 29:30Economics.
- 29:31Oh, and Matteo's the greatest race car driver that the world has ever known.
- 29:36He knows more about engines than anyone else.
- 29:39No.
- 29:40It was just so terrible, like, oh, Ferruccio's my wingman.
- 29:43He's the greatest driver in all of Italy.
- 29:46No, I'm not.
- 29:47All right, well, my wingman duties are done here.
- 29:49You all have fun.
- 29:50And then she's like, I gotta get to class.
- 29:51Bye.
- 29:52Oh, so bad.
- 29:54Jump back to the birthing scene for just a moment.
- 29:56Yeah.
- 29:56Yeah.
- 29:56Okay.
- 29:57Please.
- 29:57Let's do so after the birthing scene is all said and done with should have put
- 30:02a screenshot of that as my backdrop.
- 30:06He ends up back with the tractor and he's like beating up the shop.
- 30:11Right?
- 30:12Oh, he's fucking that place up.
- 30:13Just right.
- 30:14I mean, it's like he's looking for Secrets or something.
- 30:17I don't know.
- 30:17He's turning tables over and then suddenly he's like, I'm gonna beat the track.
- 30:21Where's the microfilm?
- 30:22Yeah, exactly and it's like Like he's gonna take it out on the tractor
- 30:25what dawned on me in the middle of this I turned to Tanya and I
- 30:28said Who's taking care of the kid?
- 30:30Yeah still in the hospital.
- 30:31I guess it yeah Parents, because he lives at home.
- 30:35The servants back at the vineyard.
- 30:37I just, I didn't know, but he was just born.
- 30:39I'm like, should you be there?
- 30:40No, you left and went back to the tractor?
- 30:42No, he's destroying everything around him and he's just about to plow that
- 30:45tractor and he's like, wait, brakes.
- 30:47Nope.
- 30:48Can't do that.
- 30:49This is my livelihood.
- 30:50I've already lost my wife.
- 30:51I've got a baby that I don't even know what it is.
- 30:54I didn't even check if it's an innie or an outie.
- 30:57I mortgaged my father's Farm.
- 30:59We're gonna lose the farm.
- 31:01Meanwhile, six minutes later, he sits down with Mateo's girl
- 31:04that he can't make a move on.
- 31:05He was like out having a smoke or something somewhere
- 31:08and she like came out to him.
- 31:10She was beautiful.
- 31:11She was everything.
- 31:12Now sit.
- 31:13If you do, I will let you.
- 31:15Yes, what will happen.
- 31:16I'll only take what you have to give me because I need it.
- 31:19You'll hate me for it.
- 31:21Don't want Mateo.
- 31:22I want you Faro.
- 31:23And I'm like, why?
- 31:25Why?
- 31:25Because he's such a nice guy.
- 31:27Because he's got the smell of placenta on him still probably.
- 31:31I don't know what, but she's like, no, you so amazing and blah, blah, blah.
- 31:35I like how he's just basically like, look, I don't give a.
- 31:37Fuck about you, right?
- 31:39And i'm like, well, apparently that's her type.
- 31:42So sure I was beside myself.
- 31:46I mean that's even if that was real.
- 31:48Yeah, it's ballsy Why is it in this movie if it's trying to be like
- 31:52lamborghini this great visionary blah blah blah Tully doesn't give a fuck
- 31:57about anybody except for his dead wife.
- 31:59It may just be his excuse, like, No, it was the one love, and now after that, all
- 32:02these bitches don't mean a thing to me.
- 32:04They made him out to be, like, the biggest tool on the planet.
- 32:07Yes!
- 32:08The entire movie!
- 32:09I don't get it.
- 32:10But it makes sense where you're at the end of, like, Oh, yeah, Lamborghini
- 32:12has nothing to do with this.
- 32:13Then it's like, Oh, so they're going to get sued for the box
- 32:17office of I'm assuming 12 grand, half of which is here with us.
- 32:20Yeah.
- 32:20Right.
- 32:22So yeah, apparently they're a thing now, but my tail is super jelly.
- 32:26Cause he's like, Hey, that was my girl.
- 32:29And it was basically how cold it was.
- 32:31Cause at this point he's like doll's eyes.
- 32:33Like he's like shark.
- 32:34I just not giving a fuck about anything.
- 32:36It seems.
- 32:37And my tail is like.
- 32:37Clelia was the smart one.
- 32:39She said nothing could come of this.
- 32:42And look what happened.
- 32:43I won 25 percent of the company.
- 32:45The rest is yours.
- 32:46All right.
- 32:47I'm just going to leave town.
- 32:48Did he get 25 percent of the company?
- 32:50That doesn't matter.
- 32:51Cause I was like, what an idiot who negotiates that way?
- 32:55It says I only want 25%.
- 32:58Like, seriously?
- 32:59To be fair, wasn't he basically just the driver?
- 33:01Or was he also an engineer and stuff too?
- 33:03He was also an engineer.
- 33:04They were both.
- 33:05Oh, okay.
- 33:05They both learned in the military, however true that is.
- 33:09Okay.
- 33:09Supposed to be equal partners in this.
- 33:11And then he's like, I only want 25%.
- 33:14Maybe he's on an Island Barbados or something relaxing the rest of the time.
- 33:18He's on the Island of Capri.
- 33:19He's got a mansion with his mere 25 percent for not doing a damn thing.
- 33:23I didn't get it.
- 33:25That was so bizarre.
- 33:26I mean, we, we had a good laugh about it.
- 33:27Cause it's like.
- 33:28Who negotiates like that?
- 33:29Like you're an idiot.
- 33:30Well, and at that time, what would 25 percent of the company have been worth?
- 33:34Nothing.
- 33:35Zero.
- 33:35I mean, one tire, a quarter of a steering wheel.
- 33:41So now we start chapter two, the golden years.
- 33:44Don't worry guys.
- 33:44There's only three chapters in this, in this novel.
- 33:47Jumps right to 1963.
- 33:49So we fast forward quite a bit.
- 33:51And now Frank Grillo's back in the movie he's in his forties
- 33:55or fifties or whatever now.
- 33:56Looking like an Elvis impersonator at the same time.
- 33:59Good lord.
- 34:00Totally got the, like, Elvis Robert Evans vibe from, uh, Frank Grillo.
- 34:04And then the wife is also the brunette, but it's now Mira Sorvino instead of,
- 34:08like, some 18 year old Italian chick.
- 34:10They're having a fight because she's like, You need to spend
- 34:12more time with your son Tonino.
- 34:14And he's like, My what now?
- 34:15Yeah, you're like 16 to 24 year old son, depending on whatever year it really is.
- 34:22Oh, cool.
- 34:22Yeah.
- 34:22I'll take them out on the boat or whatever.
- 34:24And blah, blah, blah.
- 34:25They have a little chat.
- 34:26They never get on that boat because I assume there were
- 34:29very specific instructions.
- 34:30You guys do not take this out of the slip.
- 34:33That's Lamborghini's boat or something, or, you know, somebody's boat and they
- 34:36slapped a Lamborghini sticker on it.
- 34:38Now that like the tractor.
- 34:40I think was a legit boat out of somebody's collection or a museum or something.
- 34:44Yeah.
- 34:45There was no way they were putting that on the water.
- 34:47Yeah.
- 34:47That's like from like Lake Arrowhead or something like where they shot
- 34:50that probably gorgeous boat, right?
- 34:52It looks like an old bond boat from the sixties or whatever.
- 34:54Beautiful, beautiful piece of, but they're like, don't you even start
- 34:57this thing up now you do that shit and post or something special effects.
- 35:02So we're in the factory now, the Lamborghini tractor factory, right?
- 35:06Yeah.
- 35:06Yeah.
- 35:07And did you pick up on the.
- 35:08Tanya did right away.
- 35:09She's like, Oh God, puts her, you know, her head in her hands.
- 35:13Cause they start using New York slang.
- 35:15We got all the, the for Jules and the fun ghouls.
- 35:18It was like, wow.
- 35:24That's what Italian is.
- 35:25Right?
- 35:26I've seen a Scorsese movie.
- 35:27I know what's up.
- 35:29Huah!
- 35:30Cabagool!
- 35:30It's so terrible.
- 35:31I'm going to dignify this.
- 35:33Gorlami!
- 35:34What gets me, and I don't know if Dan picked up on this, Ferruccio
- 35:38Lamborghini drives Ferraris.
- 35:40And they talked about how he's got one for every day of the week.
- 35:44Yeah!
- 35:44Dan, did you notice the car was actually period appropriate?
- 35:47It was the same Ferrari in a different color as the one
- 35:51from Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
- 35:53I don't know if anybody caught that.
- 35:54So it's a 250 California, right?
- 35:59That said, he's working on the car, right Dan?
- 36:02He's looking clean as all get out with his lab coat on and all this kind of thing.
- 36:06What is he working on?
- 36:07Well, wasn't it the clutch he was working on at that point?
- 36:09From what angle?
- 36:10Yeah, from the top of the car.
- 36:12Yeah.
- 36:12Yeah.
- 36:13Okay.
- 36:13I thought that was weird too.
- 36:14I'm like, well, maybe it's, maybe I just don't know my Italian
- 36:16sports cars and I got it all like backwards and upside down, but.
- 36:19Yeah, no.
- 36:21I don't want to call him wearing a lab coat.
- 36:22I thought he was wearing, he had that long, he had that long coat
- 36:24or whatever the hell it was.
- 36:25He was his, his science coat.
- 36:28Either way, he was way too clean to be working on a car.
- 36:30Thousand percent.
- 36:31Yeah.
- 36:32Then you have the Kiwi driver friend that showed up like the scene before dude.
- 36:35Bob Wallace.
- 36:36We're going to get that.
- 36:37But then again, this is the thing I took away from this movie is
- 36:41they had a lot of budget for some really good, authentic props.
- 36:45So we got the tractor.
- 36:46We got the boat, we got a two 50, California.
- 36:49None of these things are cheap.
- 36:50They might've all came from maybe the same collector or collection.
- 36:53But to me, I was like, all right, that's cool.
- 36:55At least you got that much.
- 36:57I mean, you can rent this kind of stuff in Vegas, I'm sure.
- 36:59But it might've actually been a dots and leftover from Corvette
- 37:03summer, but you know, whatever.
- 37:06So yes, enter the Kiwi, Bob Wallace.
- 37:08Uh, looking this up real quick, Eric, it was actually a replica car.
- 37:11Was it really?
- 37:12Uh, okay.
- 37:13It's the internet movie car database that actually shows
- 37:16each of the cars in the scenes.
- 37:17Oh, nice.
- 37:18I'm pretty sure it's the same one that they used when he was working on it there.
- 37:20When he pulls up outside, when they were testing one of the cars and saying,
- 37:23uh, Ferrari 250 Testarossa 59 replica.
- 37:26All right.
- 37:27So we come to the final meeting, Lamborghini.
- 37:30V Ferrari, Ferruccio is just hanging outside, I guess the
- 37:33Ferrari headquarters or whatever.
- 37:35And Enzo comes out with his, you know, bodyguard or driver.
- 37:38I don't know what exactly, but it comes out and he's like, Ferruccio Lamborghini.
- 37:42You know who I am?
- 37:43Oh, yes.
- 37:44You're my tractors.
- 37:45I don't have conditioning or anything.
- 37:47I've got a dinner appointment.
- 37:48Forgive me, but your clutch does not live up to your car.
- 37:51I come as a friend.
- 37:52I'm sure you know this.
- 37:53I'm not the first to point it out.
- 37:55I have a solution.
- 37:56If you consider a partnership, Ferrari, Lamborghini, we make
- 38:00the best cars in the world.
- 38:01Go back to your tractors, Farmer.
- 38:03I've noticed something with your cars, though.
- 38:05The, the, the clutch, uh, it, it, uh, sucks the balls, you might say.
- 38:11It's, it's, uh, weaker than a cannoli, you know?
- 38:14To be fair.
- 38:16There are different ways to go about this partnership than just kind of like
- 38:20running up on somebody and being like, yo, yo, your car suck, but I can help you.
- 38:24It was so skeezy.
- 38:26I mean, it was just like, wow, really?
- 38:28You might as well have been selling in vacuum cleaners and Encyclopedia
- 38:31Britannicas at the same time, but I didn't even take issue with that.
- 38:35It was Enzo gets in a car.
- 38:38It drives away.
- 38:38Did anybody notice what Enzo drove away in?
- 38:41Was it a Mercedes?
- 38:42Not a Ferrari.
- 38:43No, no.
- 38:44It was a Rolls Royce.
- 38:45Yeah.
- 38:46Yeah.
- 38:46Okay.
- 38:46And I'm like, hold on a second.
- 38:48So I had to go back and I talked to some people that know and things like that.
- 38:52And, you know, I did some fact checking of my own through the
- 38:54community and everybody says.
- 38:56that Ferrari drove himself to and from work every day, and he either drove a
- 39:01Fiat Dino or a Ferrari 330, which he designed for himself as a daily driver.
- 39:07So where the hell did this Rolls Royce come from?
- 39:09To be fair, the Ferrari in this story Is apparently an 80 year old Scottish man.
- 39:14There's a different parallel Ferrari that none of us have
- 39:17known about this whole time.
- 39:18This is the multiverse.
- 39:20Yeah.
- 39:21Star Trek time loop continuum.
- 39:24Next up, John Delancey shows up as Q and solves all the problems.
- 39:28This is the man in the behind the legend, a little, little, little
- 39:32misquote from the title there.
- 39:35Oh, yeah, he sees the bull fighting art or whatever and has a vision like
- 39:40no and the logo must be the pool And I'm sure had one made by artisan for
- 39:46like five million dollars I will say the Lamborghini logo itself is pretty
- 39:51cool Like whoever designed it the story behind that would be Cool to like
- 39:55investigate and whatever it is iconic.
- 39:57There's nothing else like it out there.
- 39:59It's pretty wild.
- 40:00And it is true.
- 40:01All the Lamborghinis are named either after bulls or bull fighters.
- 40:05So it's kind of neat.
- 40:07You know, when you look at at least that part of the story, except for
- 40:10the very first Lamborghini, which.
- 40:12It's just a number.
- 40:13Yeah.
- 40:13The L three 50 GT or whatever.
- 40:16Yeah.
- 40:16Exactly.
- 40:17Yeah.
- 40:17So we get the, uh, creation of this little montage where, uh, it was a fall of 63.
- 40:22And he's got all the people from Ferrari and Maserati and Alfa
- 40:26Romeo all coming together, working together, trying to brainstorm.
- 40:29All right, we got to do this, but we got to make the engine lighter.
- 40:32Well, what if we made it out of aluminum?
- 40:34You can't use aluminum.
- 40:35It melts too easy.
- 40:36And like, well, maybe we can put the things around me.
- 40:39Oh, they're brainstorming.
- 40:40It's like half the way.
- 40:41And so like, I was like, oh yeah, we're going to debut
- 40:44this at the Geneva car show.
- 40:46So that scene was actually pretty cool.
- 40:49I don't know if you noticed, they did that kind of stop and they added
- 40:52the captions to point out the three engineers that had come from Alfa
- 40:56Romeo, formerly Ferrari, whatever.
- 40:58Scaglieri, Bizzarini, and Dallara, right?
- 41:01Those are three big names in the Italian automotive industry.
- 41:04Dallara is still around, obviously.
- 41:06Bizzarini left, and he went and created his own car, which is very similar
- 41:10to the second car the Lamborghini built, all this kind of stuff.
- 41:13Obviously, he had inside baseball on what they were developing and whatnot.
- 41:17So I really liked that part.
- 41:19I like the fact that they included them and they.
- 41:22knowledge them.
- 41:22I know Tanya has a sweet spot for Dallara, but I thought that was pretty cool
- 41:26that you had those three people kind of singled out in that particular scene.
- 41:31During the spontage, they like mentioned the headlights flipping up and he's
- 41:34like, no, no, no, not this time.
- 41:35Save it for the sequel.
- 41:36You know, like basically like save it for the second one.
- 41:39We got to do this in six months for this Geneva show, which again, it's like
- 41:43major time crunch for staking your very profitable tractor business on making a
- 41:48car just because Enzo Ferrari was like.
- 41:51Yeah.
- 41:51Go back to your tractors farmer.
- 41:53Yeah.
- 41:53And then we took it a bridge too far and we started talking about
- 41:56side mounting carburetors and all this stuff that completely lost
- 42:00anybody that wasn't into cars.
- 42:02I mean, Dan, come on.
- 42:02I mean, even for us, we're like, seriously.
- 42:05Was it truly that detrimental to the storyline?
- 42:07It was like filler is what it was.
- 42:09Thousand percent.
- 42:10I was curious about it.
- 42:11I was like, how much of that legitimately done on that car?
- 42:14Yeah.
- 42:14Cause I'm not familiar with.
- 42:16Italian cars and I was like, okay, is this something they actually did on that car?
- 42:18Was it something new at that time?
- 42:20I didn't know, but I know I was cringing in the back of my mind,
- 42:23thinking of like the Transformer movies where what's your name?
- 42:26Looks Megan Fox under the hood.
- 42:28And she's like, Oh yeah, your carburetors.
- 42:30That's a fuel injected engine.
- 42:31There is no car wear.
- 42:32Yeah.
- 42:33A thousand percent.
- 42:34You ask my wife anything about transformers.
- 42:37That's the first thing she'll bring up about any of them is like, Oh God.
- 42:40And that first one, Megan Fox looks under the hood and it's so full of shit.
- 42:43She doesn't even know what she's looking at.
- 42:45Exactly.
- 42:45And I'm like, Oh yeah.
- 42:46Was she talking?
- 42:47Who knows?
- 42:49I'm sure I'll be run up on a pike for saying this, but classic car world.
- 42:54Everybody has their opinions.
- 42:55I personally do not like the 350 GT.
- 42:58I think it's ugly.
- 42:59I don't like the headlights.
- 43:00I don't like its shape.
- 43:01I don't think it's a beautiful car at all.
- 43:04You'd have to convince me.
- 43:05You don't get to ride in mine.
- 43:06So what you're saying is you needed the pop up headlights for it to be cool.
- 43:09It's so iconically Lamborghini to have pop up headlights.
- 43:13He's got pop up headlights on his Datsun.
- 43:15What are you talking about?
- 43:16I don't know.
- 43:17For me, it's not my cup of tea.
- 43:19And I'm not saying I'm biased towards something else.
- 43:21I look at the later Lamborghinis and we're going to get to one of
- 43:25the most iconic Lamborghinis, but.
- 43:26If you put this picture in front of anybody and took the emblem off of it
- 43:29and said, who do you think made this car?
- 43:31You wouldn't say Lamborghini when you look at it.
- 43:33No, no.
- 43:34Not at all.
- 43:34No, not even close.
- 43:35Like, I have a very specific Lamborghini in mind when I hear Lamborghini
- 43:39and it's the one that was on.
- 43:41Every teenager's wall in the seventies, eighties, nineties, thousands.
- 43:45Yeah.
- 43:46The Countach.
- 43:47That's right.
- 43:49It's the one in all the rap videos.
- 43:50That ain't that car.
- 43:51David Hasselhoff, Kong Fury, true survivor.
- 43:54Exactly.
- 43:56It is the ultimate music video car.
- 43:58I have said, it doesn't matter what music you put to the Countach.
- 44:01It works.
- 44:02Period.
- 44:04Well, I'm going in the bridge and see my sister.
- 44:06Yeah, it works there too.
- 44:08I mean, come on.
- 44:09But the blue car in the Enzo versus Lamborghini race is a Countach.
- 44:13Yeah.
- 44:14And I'll get into the Ferrari they used for this.
- 44:16Cause at first I thought it was one and it's actually something else,
- 44:18but we'll get into that later.
- 44:21So there's family drama, too, because we get a nice little scene
- 44:23where he's, I guess, having dinner with his wife, Mira Sorvino.
- 44:26Which was not the name of his second or third wife.
- 44:30He had three wives?
- 44:31Apparently he had three wives.
- 44:32He had a second kid.
- 44:34Whoa!
- 44:35What?
- 44:36Yes, he had a daughter.
- 44:38Oh, nobody cares about women.
- 44:39These writers.
- 44:40Chat GPT only goes to 2021.
- 44:43It doesn't know these things.
- 44:45A lady guinea.
- 44:46No, no, no.
- 44:47Not in my story.
- 44:48A lady guinea.
- 44:49I like that.
- 44:50But yeah, so they're fighting.
- 44:52Falling like a crab on the floor of the ocean.
- 44:54I married someone who could talk.
- 44:58Not only yet for that, I have bread and I have a lot, I don't even know
- 45:01what they were fighting about other than like, oh, you need to spend
- 45:03more time and blah, blah, blah.
- 45:05But she's just chucking, forgets it like over and over again.
- 45:09Pelting him with it.
- 45:10And I like how he just like grabs one off the table.
- 45:12I was like, all right.
- 45:14It was like the reverse of that Seinfeld episode.
- 45:17Right?
- 45:17I have bread for you, . Oh, and I fired the blonde.
- 45:20You're fucking . Oh yeah.
- 45:21Right.
- 45:22I'm like, oh my God.
- 45:23Uh, yeah.
- 45:25In the background, they have these shelves that have, like, uh, you
- 45:28know, show they're rich or whatever.
- 45:30I swear to God, it's those plastic shelves you get at Costco that you
- 45:33put in your garage just painted white.
- 45:35And they have his and her wine decanters, and I'm like, that's
- 45:38how you know you're living.
- 45:39There's a little bit of drama with the one designer when he's like, uh,
- 45:42talking about the flip up headlights.
- 45:44He's like, yeah, your design, it's, uh, it's a kind of shit.
- 45:46All I'm asking is for you to start over and do it again, that's all.
- 45:49That's all.
- 45:50You're the best designer.
- 45:52Just start from the beginning and do it again.
- 45:54And then yeah, the whole thing about the carburetor being too high, they will
- 45:57like tip it to the side and Bob wants to test drive it, but who gives a shit?
- 46:02So now it's like Christmas.
- 46:04We gotta get to Christmas because he has like a reporter come and like interview
- 46:08him on Christmas Eve and of course the wife's like why what the hell are
- 46:11you doing this blah blah blah and it's like it's a special it's that one thing
- 46:14you never forget it's like losing your virginity or you know shit like that like
- 46:19to a reporter and I'm like they can't put that on there well it is Italy I'm sure
- 46:22the reporter could take her top off if they really wanted to and be like yeah
- 46:26there's a rainstorm coming into Umbria region you've seen the game shows then
- 46:29you you got it all figured out yeah.
- 46:32I watched the Senna documentary, like, you know.
- 46:36With Zsuzsa.
- 46:37Zsuzsa, oh god.
- 46:38So, okay, that's, in my opinion, the most memorable part of that
- 46:42whole thing is when he's on Zsuzsa.
- 46:44And, uh, he's like, What is it you want for Christmas?
- 46:47And he's like, I have a fave I can't tell you on the kids show.
- 46:49And like, whispers in her ear.
- 46:51You can basically see the flood watch below her like, oh yeah, . We were
- 46:58talking about how like there was some, like the family drama and stuff and
- 47:00one thing that stuck out to me at one point was where he was with his son and
- 47:05'cause his son was like failing classes or something and yeah, he's like, yeah,
- 47:09bought this for you because you found, and then he made a comment at the
- 47:12end of the conversation with his son.
- 47:13He is like, yeah, if you keep doing this, I'll get you something else.
- 47:15And it's like, why are you your child for doing bad?
- 47:19You know, that's just setting them up for failure.
- 47:20He said, if you don't improve your grades, I'll get you a Ferrari.
- 47:24And I'm like, wait, so is the Ferrari the punishment?
- 47:27Cause Lamborghini car isn't a thing.
- 47:29And like, I thought it was like a dig of like, I'll get you a piece
- 47:32of shit Ferrari or something.
- 47:33But it's like, no, wait, he's still working on that first car.
- 47:36Like what?
- 47:37All messed up.
- 47:39Is this supposed to be later in the movie?
- 47:40Like, I don't know.
- 47:42So are we at the concert at Christmas time?
- 47:45Are we there yet?
- 47:46Uh, okay, we're, yeah, it's, uh, Valentine's Day, where it
- 47:48was the concert, and I swear to God, it was Yanni up on stage.
- 47:52Dude, so, Tanya had to look this up.
- 47:55Because we were like, is this guy made up?
- 47:56Is he, like, some Burt Bacharach wannabe?
- 47:59It just sounded fake, it seemed fake, but to her credit, he is legitimate.
- 48:03And he's still alive at 84 years old, I believe you said.
- 48:0784 years young.
- 48:07But yes, Tony Rennes, was that his name?
- 48:10Yeah, Rennes.
- 48:11Yeah, he is still alive.
- 48:12His real name is Elio Cesari, but I don't know why he would go by Tony Rennes.
- 48:18Too many syllables.
- 48:21Sounds weird.
- 48:21Rhymes with something else.
- 48:23But, that said, did you notice as they panned around, they
- 48:27showed him more than once.
- 48:28Cause we were laughing about this.
- 48:29There's a dude, he looks like Fabio's dad.
- 48:32Yeah, that's the guy, I think it's Yanni.
- 48:35Like, cause Yanni like looks like that when he's on tour and stuff like that.
- 48:38Like it's Full blown, like, I swear it's a wig, but it's like the Sam
- 48:42Elliott beard, like, kind of thing.
- 48:44I was like, who is this guy?
- 48:46Like, why do we go back to him several times?
- 48:49Yeah, it's like a three minute music video for the worst lip syncing I've
- 48:53ever seen in my fucking life with the, like, 20 year old kid that's,
- 48:56like, supposed to be singing the song.
- 48:58Like, it is rough.
- 48:59Yeah, I mean, there's so many pieces of this movie you could have deleted.
- 49:03You probably wouldn't be left with the movie.
- 49:06It could have been like a seven minute short instead of a 95 minute movie.
- 49:09It would have been better as like a John Woo film.
- 49:12Like he did back in the 2000s for BMW.
- 49:14Like just show the race scene and polish it up and move on.
- 49:17Lamborghini.
- 49:18He's sitting there.
- 49:19We just see him at like a dinner table by himself and scribbling on
- 49:22a napkin, like designing the car.
- 49:24Some hot shit comes over and starts talking to him.
- 49:27And he's like, Oh, look, I put eyelashes on the car.
- 49:29So it's beautiful.
- 49:30Like you.
- 49:31And, and of course that's when this wife and the son arrive at the restaurant and
- 49:35see he's flashing a napkin at the lady.
- 49:37And of course the wife's like, what was the kid's name?
- 49:39Tonino go wait outside, go wait outside, go wait outside.
- 49:42I'm going to.
- 49:42Fucking kill your father, you know, that kind of thing the whole falling out and
- 49:45she's like, I don't hate you I feel sorry for you and like we're getting divorced
- 49:50and he's like, well, what about Tonino and that I think she's like What about Tonino?
- 49:54Right?
- 49:54Are you suggesting that you're going to have the son?
- 49:57You barely talked to away from the mother who has raised him Is that what you're
- 50:02suggesting for Ruchiyo and he's kind of like, all right, good fucking point Yeah.
- 50:07Get that sack of potatoes out of here.
- 50:09Right.
- 50:09I mean, it's like, dude, what a jerk.
- 50:11Wait off my neck.
- 50:12Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 50:14Exactly.
- 50:14So yeah, the car he's sketching on the napkin is what becomes the Mura and one
- 50:20of the most iconic cars of all times.
- 50:22It actually set the stage for supercars in general.
- 50:24It is like the original, it is the Genesis of supercars as we know them today.
- 50:28If you fact check Ferruccio Lamborghini didn't design the Miura.
- 50:32It was designed By those other three guys earlier.
- 50:37I think that's the theme of this movie.
- 50:39He drew some shit on a napkin Those guys designed cars But he's lamborghini
- 50:45He's the man behind the legend and the man behind the legend is just
- 50:50kind of a fucking prick, right?
- 50:52That's the point of this movie, right?
- 50:54I, that's the, what I took away from it.
- 50:57I mean, it's Elon Musk before Elon Musk, kind of, right?
- 51:00Like Musk didn't design any of that shit, but guess what?
- 51:03He got fucking rich off it.
- 51:04And he's taking credit for it too, right?
- 51:06So yeah, he's the financial backing.
- 51:08He's the emblem.
- 51:09He's the name.
- 51:10Unlike Ferrari and Porsche, which most people do recognize today
- 51:14are both engineering firms, right?
- 51:16And they always have been.
- 51:17So it's like a whole different, you know, style.
- 51:19I feel like it's sizzle over steak in a lot of ways.
- 51:22Now, granted.
- 51:23Lamborghini later, not Lamborghini, the man, the company developed a lot of
- 51:28really cool stuff, some trend setting cars and always kind of breaking the mold.
- 51:33But at this point, he's the new kid on the block.
- 51:35Literally Lamborghini is still one of the newest.
- 51:39Italian car manufacturers, because everybody else had started in the
- 51:42early 1900s, be it Fiat, be it Alfa Romeo, Ferrari was the new kid
- 51:47because he was post war and then, you know, Lamborghini comes along.
- 51:50So yeah, that brings us to Geneva, 1963 ish.
- 51:54I'm not sure.
- 51:5564 yeah.
- 51:57And yeah.
- 51:57So he's unveiling his new car.
- 51:59I mean, the Muro was built in 1967.
- 52:02So again, we're wrong on the timeline.
- 52:03Yeah.
- 52:04Where are we?
- 52:04Well, I'll say, but it's not the mirror that was being released though.
- 52:07Wasn't it?
- 52:07It was the three 50 GT.
- 52:09Yes, correct.
- 52:10I was still on the napkins.
- 52:11Sorry.
- 52:12Yeah.
- 52:13Either way.
- 52:13Ferruccio Lamborghini is actually like the 14th time Lord from
- 52:19It doesn't matter at all.
- 52:22Again, he's like, I gotta go back and make things right.
- 52:24Oh shit, my wife still died.
- 52:26Picture it, Geneva, 1964, question mark?
- 52:30Sounds good.
- 52:31Said Estelle Getty.
- 52:32He's unveiling his car, but he decides he's gonna draw a little sketch
- 52:35and have a hot model chick hand it off to Enzo Ferrari right before.
- 52:39Who wants to take this part?
- 52:41Describe this part.
- 52:42Dan should, I think it was a very agricultural description
- 52:45of the relationship between Ferrari and Lamborghini.
- 52:47Wouldn't you say?
- 52:48Wasn't it the bull like mounting the car?
- 52:50Yeah.
- 52:50A hundred percent.
- 52:51Yeah.
- 52:51The bull mounting the horse.
- 52:53Yeah.
- 52:53Yeah.
- 52:53Yeah.
- 52:54A horse.
- 52:54Yeah.
- 52:55The Ferrari logo basically being raped by a bull.
- 52:58SNL celebrity Jeopardy moment.
- 53:00This is what I expected between Sean Connery and Alex Trebek.
- 53:05That was a serious suck it Trebek moment.
- 53:07That's right.
- 53:09And then, yeah, we cut back to 92.
- 53:11Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 53:13The best quote of the movie comes out at this point.
- 53:15Right after he's given the car and all this kind of thing.
- 53:17They unveil the 350 GT and, you know, they have the woman reporter there.
- 53:22And she's talking and, you know, Ferruccio, what do you think?
- 53:25What do you say?
- 53:26And he goes.
- 53:26To drive a Lamborghini, to own a Lamborghini, you must not be shy.
- 53:30Mr.
- 53:31Lamborghini, I know there are many questions about what's under the hood of
- 53:34this car, but my first question is, what is the price tag of the Lamborghini GT?
- 53:38What is the price of a beautiful woman?
- 53:40A great bottle of wine, a pasta you remember the rest of your life.
- 53:43These things are worth whatever they ask you to pay.
- 53:46You buy a Ferrari when you want to be someone.
- 53:48You buy a Lamborghini when you are someone.
- 53:51And I was like, yeah, all right!
- 53:52And then he drops the mic, uh, whips his dick out, waves at Anzo a little bit.
- 53:58It was a very hard R moment.
- 54:00This movie was rated R.
- 54:02Oh shit, it was, yeah, yeah.
- 54:03Oh no shit, there was a blood scene of like, whatever in the first 20 minutes.
- 54:09Okay, so a couple F words and I don't know, one scene from The Shining.
- 54:14That hardly makes an R movie.
- 54:16PG 13 for sure.
- 54:18That scene was no PG 13.
- 54:20When the baby comes out of the elevator doors and We're back to 1992.
- 54:27For chapter three, Le Fin.
- 54:29Again, remember 1992, Ferruccio Lamborghini dies in 1993.
- 54:34Yeah.
- 54:34He's on death's door.
- 54:35Right.
- 54:35He's like 80 some years old.
- 54:37Fine.
- 54:37Whatever.
- 54:38Enzo's already dead.
- 54:40Keep that in mind.
- 54:41In 1988, he died after the F40 came out.
- 54:44What kills me about this is.
- 54:46The two cars that they use in the race.
- 54:49So he's got a Countach, the blue car and the red Ferrari, which at
- 54:52first I was like, Oh, because certain angles and I mistook the hood, I
- 54:56thought it was a 308 GT four, which is the predecessor to the car.
- 55:01They actually used in the movie, which is one of the ugliest worst
- 55:05Ferraris like of all time, in my opinion, which is the Mondial coupe.
- 55:08It is a pathetic 2.
- 55:109 liter, barely makes over 200 horsepower V8, and then you
- 55:14have this 12 cylinder Countach.
- 55:16Again, we have a dead man in one car.
- 55:20Another one that's on death's door.
- 55:22Ghost race.
- 55:23Well, I just have to say the whole time continuum through it, from the first time
- 55:26you see Enzo at the race in the little town to this point when he's in the.
- 55:30Car.
- 55:30He never ate it.
- 55:32Nope.
- 55:32Not at all.
- 55:33Nah.
- 55:33What the hell?
- 55:34And even if this didn't take place in 1992, it took place earlier.
- 55:37The cars are all wrong.
- 55:39It's just all wrong, right?
- 55:41Not only that, I was like, 1992, the Diablo was already out.
- 55:45Yeah.
- 55:46So if anything, they should have replaced the Countach with that.
- 55:50They probably couldn't get one on loan.
- 55:51Fine.
- 55:52Whatever.
- 55:53What a freaking mess.
- 55:54Unions going on strike.
- 55:55Oils went up like four times overnight, you know, because of
- 55:59Desert Storm and stuff, right?
- 56:01What's Ferruccio up to?
- 56:02He's selling the company, giving half to his son and half to his brothers.
- 56:06Remember he had brothers 50 years ago.
- 56:08He's like, Hey, so we can keep the Lamborghini name.
- 56:12You guys can split it amongst yourselves and your families go for it.
- 56:15And then he's having dinner with this son and they are
- 56:17just eating carrots and bread.
- 56:19You notice that too?
- 56:21Yeah.
- 56:21Yeah.
- 56:21Oh, I didn't notice it.
- 56:22Izzy noticed it and she's like, are they only eating carrots?
- 56:26And we like when it shows the whole table and there's like five platters
- 56:30of sliced buttered carrots This is when the first menu came out.
- 56:35Well, at least the bread was consistent I mean we started that way early on he's
- 56:39got to have that bread with dinner because you know He was chucked at his head all
- 56:42the time So he's telling us i'm like, hey, you're gonna get half the company and
- 56:45uh, the son's like was it worth it papa?
- 56:47Wait, what are we having different conversations right now?
- 56:49It's like, and then yeah, this is where we like go back to that race and find out
- 56:52it was all a dream and blah, blah, blah.
- 56:55And I'm going to throw this out there.
- 56:56So nothing happened between 1964 and 1992.
- 56:59Right.
- 57:00Of interest.
- 57:01Except for the birth of one of the second most iconic cars
- 57:04of all time, the Countach.
- 57:06Right.
- 57:06I mean, come on.
- 57:07So yeah, basically the Geneva thing where you drew the picture and Mike
- 57:11drop cut to he died 30 years later.
- 57:14That's it.
- 57:14They teased that he was going up against Ferrari.
- 57:17Nothing happened after that though.
- 57:19Ferrari was just kind of like, whatever, do your thing.
- 57:21I'll do mine.
- 57:21We'll both get rich.
- 57:22Cool.
- 57:23Yeah.
- 57:23Nobody knows.
- 57:24Right.
- 57:24And that's just it.
- 57:25There's, there's so many holes in that story because Lamborghini
- 57:28didn't really go into racing.
- 57:30Not until the modern times because they're backed by Volkswagen, Porsche and Audi.
- 57:34So it's a whole different thing.
- 57:36So Ferrari was always about racing.
- 57:38It was always formula one.
- 57:40And you know, you know, the stories like.
- 57:41You know, Ford, V Ferrari, Le Mans rush, which is the, you know, the James Hunt,
- 57:45Niki Lauda story involves a Ferrari.
- 57:47There's always a Ferrari involved.
- 57:48You don't see Lamborghini out there, right?
- 57:50Because they were building these high class sports cars.
- 57:53Let's call them that, but they sort of only built one model at a time.
- 57:57You know what I mean?
- 57:58So they were all these evolutions.
- 57:59So when they stopped producing the Miura.
- 58:01Then Diablo or something.
- 58:03Well, then the Jalpa came along and then the Countach came along and it's
- 58:06like, they would have these little runs and then they would sunset
- 58:08a car and then start another one.
- 58:09Because really as an outfit, they were never as big as Alfa Romeo or Fiat,
- 58:16which backed Ferrari and those groups.
- 58:18So they were a boutique manufacturer, right?
- 58:20They could only build basically one car at a time.
- 58:22Then he steps outside.
- 58:23He's, of course, the family vineyard there in, uh, Cento in Italy,
- 58:28rubbing his hands in the dirt.
- 58:30And then he just looking at pictures of earlier in the
- 58:32movie and some random sketches.
- 58:35So what got me about that scene is if you spent any time watching Picard,
- 58:41I was like, did they lift this?
- 58:42It's really Patrick Stewart's hands touching the dirt on.
- 58:46You know, Chateau Picard or whatever.
- 58:48I'm like, this is such a rip off of stuff we've already seen.
- 58:51It's lit exactly the same way, like lens flares, but also like dark filter, like
- 58:56very lush every scene of the vineyard.
- 58:59Yeah.
- 58:59I was thinking of Picard.
- 59:00I was waiting for him to pop around the corner.
- 59:02There's a Romulan in the background somewhere.
- 59:04Riker pops out of nowhere.
- 59:07Like, hello, captain.
- 59:09Hello, number one.
- 59:10So they're seeing, uh, publicity steals from earlier in the movie.
- 59:13Hobson is a Lamborghini Mira.
- 59:15Starts thinking about his first wife and taking the loan out and
- 59:19Mateo and all the other bullshit we already forgot about long ago because
- 59:24he forgot long ago because it's 60 years ago and it's like, oh yeah,
- 59:27thinking about him for the first time.
- 59:29We get a little thing that pops up saying like, oh yeah, the Oh, it's the MoMA.
- 59:32It was the Museum of Modern Art.
- 59:33Said the Mira is the most beautiful car in the world.
- 59:37Yeah, right.
- 59:39Beautiful car.
- 59:40I think we can all agree.
- 59:41The Miura is up there with the Jaguar E type and a bunch of the
- 59:45old Ferraris and stuff like that.
- 59:46It's a gorgeous car.
- 59:47There's no contesting that.
- 59:49But I took issue with the scene.
- 59:51The sound was wrong.
- 59:52I mean, that's a V12.
- 59:54It's a screamer.
- 59:55It has a very unique sound because of the way that car is
- 59:57built and all that kind of stuff.
- 59:58And if you ever want to hear one, the sound is actually more right because
- 1:00:03there's a very similar scene to the scene we saw in this movie at the
- 1:00:06beginning of the original Italian job.
- 1:00:08So they tried to sort of play off that where the guys slow roll in
- 1:00:12the mirror through the country, you know, mountain road there.
- 1:00:15And I saw that and I was like, man.
- 1:00:17When does Michael Caine step out in a truck and try to
- 1:00:20steal the car or something?
- 1:00:21Like it was a good sort of ending, but I felt like I'd seen it before, but then
- 1:00:26the audio was wrong and it didn't help that car in any way to really kind of
- 1:00:30give it that ferocity that a Lamborghini has, because even the Countach is quite.
- 1:00:35Trill and it gets under your skin and it would have been cool, but I figured they
- 1:00:39were probably dragging that car with piano wire at like five miles an hour because
- 1:00:44it barely looked like he was moving.
- 1:00:45Yeah.
- 1:00:46And if it was a real Mura, I mean, that's a seven figure car easily.
- 1:00:50I mean, good on them.
- 1:00:51Right.
- 1:00:51Unless it's a kick car on Dan's list.
- 1:00:54Oh, it's all CGI.
- 1:00:55Yeah.
- 1:00:57And a big thing about it is like, you guys were saying like the ending
- 1:00:59where he just starts driving off.
- 1:01:00It's like when I was watching this movie, when it comes to the end.
- 1:01:03That's all?
- 1:01:04It just like, comes to an end and you're like, what the hell, it's like,
- 1:01:07you're left with so many more questions than you started with in my opinion.
- 1:01:09Yeah, it's like, so, wait, what?
- 1:01:11That's it?
- 1:01:12That's where we're going to leave off in 1992?
- 1:01:14Um, Death Star, damn.
- 1:01:16So, roll credits, I think we got Eric's review, the sounds were
- 1:01:19all wrong, that's his only note.
- 1:01:21Oh yeah, that's my only note.
- 1:01:24So why don't you hit us with some stats, what did the critics think of this
- 1:01:29stellar Oh, right before we get into that, would you guys recommend this movie?
- 1:01:33No, no, I would recommend a refund everybody shaking their
- 1:01:36head and or leaving the chat.
- 1:01:38So yeah, I'm going to take that as a no, I would have on the fence
- 1:01:41about it because here's the thing.
- 1:01:43How many times did you watch it?
- 1:01:44That's the bigger question.
- 1:01:46Oh yeah.
- 1:01:47Here's the thing.
- 1:01:47Knowing this information now.
- 1:01:49I would have never watched it to begin with, but going into it blind
- 1:01:52and ignorantly, it was entertaining.
- 1:01:54It was telling a story, even though the story was apparently,
- 1:01:57this guy's an asshole.
- 1:01:59That stuck out more than anything.
- 1:02:00I was like, this guy is such a freaking tool.
- 1:02:02If you want to watch a movie like this, but it's actually
- 1:02:05done well, there will be blood.
- 1:02:07That's how you do it.
- 1:02:08And that's probably more based in reality, too.
- 1:02:11It's the thing, like they actually use.
- 1:02:14I don't know, dates and facts and figures and it's holding a nice operatic matter.
- 1:02:18This one's kind of messy.
- 1:02:19Yeah, I can't recommend it.
- 1:02:21What do you guys think the Rotten Tomatoes score on this one is from the critics?
- 1:02:24I mean, if it's single digits, it's a lot.
- 1:02:2627%.
- 1:02:28It's low is all I can imagine.
- 1:02:30Tanya, you won 7%.
- 1:02:32One positive review out of 15 from top critics.
- 1:02:37Wow.
- 1:02:38But, as we say on our show, nobody gives a Fuck about the critics.
- 1:02:41What about that audience score?
- 1:02:43Ooh, ooh, ooh.
- 1:02:44Did anybody actually watch it other than the critics and us?
- 1:02:47I think there was like a hundred or so reviews or something on there.
- 1:02:50That's more than I would have expected.
- 1:02:52This can go two ways.
- 1:02:54Yep.
- 1:02:54There's the crowd of people that watched it.
- 1:02:56They would know nothing about it and probably would give it a mediocre score.
- 1:03:01Then there's the people that would watch it and knew a little bit.
- 1:03:05And then there's the third option, which is when I sit down with people at a
- 1:03:10bar and they say, oh, you're a car guy.
- 1:03:12You know, I saw that Lamborghini movie, blah, blah, blah, blah,
- 1:03:14blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and I'm like, it's all crap.
- 1:03:17And they're like, what do you mean?
- 1:03:17It's all crap.
- 1:03:18I was like, did you see the disclaimer at the end?
- 1:03:20Well, yeah, that's that first group of people that they're
- 1:03:22all going to believe it.
- 1:03:23And that's the travesty.
- 1:03:25Exactly.
- 1:03:25It's terrible.
- 1:03:26What's that number then?
- 1:03:27It's gotta be less than 10%.
- 1:03:29I'll be optimistic and say 20.
- 1:03:3112.
- 1:03:32Anne's closest 25 with the audience.
- 1:03:34Wow.
- 1:03:36Not good with the audience score.
- 1:03:37It's tough to get into single digits.
- 1:03:39Like we've only done maybe three movies on our podcast that specializes in bad
- 1:03:44movies that have been in single digits.
- 1:03:46Wow.
- 1:03:46I think the lowest I saw was we watched was 3%.
- 1:03:52To its credit, there isn't a lot.
- 1:03:54of information on the Lamborghini story.
- 1:03:57It's not like you can go to autobiography on Motor Trend or go to Seduced
- 1:04:03by Speed or any of those types of mockumentary type of things that
- 1:04:06they've put together, even on the noted automobile channels and stuff.
- 1:04:11So it's sort of like Lamborghini's been untouched for so long.
- 1:04:15It's like stories handed down from his family, basically, or, you know, like
- 1:04:19news clippings, but it's Basically them blowing Lamborghini, like, Oh
- 1:04:23my God, the greatest, most beautiful cars ever all Italian treasure.
- 1:04:27So let's see, maybe this is the attempt to fire a shot across the bow.
- 1:04:32Lamborghini is now owned by Volkswagen Audi group, right?
- 1:04:35So maybe to get their attention and say.
- 1:04:37You need to do something to fix this.
- 1:04:39We need to write a wrong here and produce a real film.
- 1:04:42Because again, there's plenty of documented movies and other things
- 1:04:47about the Ferrari story, about the Porsche story, et cetera.
- 1:04:50But Lamborghini just seems to always be off to the side.
- 1:04:53And I don't want to say forgotten because they're realistically iconic.
- 1:04:57It's good that somebody went out on a limb and did something, but to Tanya's point,
- 1:05:02if you had just followed the Wikipedia, you would have had a much better film.
- 1:05:08I mean, there's still people alive that were intimately involved with
- 1:05:10the beginnings of Lamborghini, so they must know how he was,
- 1:05:15who he was, and what went down.
- 1:05:17I mean, Dallara, as an example, is still with us.
- 1:05:20So who's the other guy you mentioned?
- 1:05:21Bazzini, Bazzini, Bazzini, he's still alive too.
- 1:05:25I think what we need to have done is the, like the two engineers that were
- 1:05:28involved with the beginning stuff.
- 1:05:30We need to have like reaction video of them watching this.
- 1:05:33Yeah.
- 1:05:33Yeah.
- 1:05:34That would be perfect.
- 1:05:35That sounds interesting.
- 1:05:36Maybe we'll get in the sequel.
- 1:05:37No, we probably won't because I think 1.
- 1:05:416 million worldwide gross.
- 1:05:43I don't know where that would have come from.
- 1:05:46But 6 at a time, people watching it on Amazon or Vudu or whatever.
- 1:05:52What?
- 1:05:52It really grossed that much.
- 1:05:54That's surprising.
- 1:05:55Yeah.
- 1:05:55Yeah.
- 1:05:55That was kind of surprising to me too.
- 1:05:56So maybe it was like released in Italy.
- 1:05:58That's, Oh, so many angry Italians with pitchforks over there.
- 1:06:02Like, no, it's a bullshit.
- 1:06:04Yeah.
- 1:06:05A thousand percent.
- 1:06:06As I mentioned, there was one lone positive review of this movie.
- 1:06:09Would you guys be interested in hearing it?
- 1:06:10Yes, please.
- 1:06:11It comes from Eddie Harrison of film authority.
- 1:06:14com.
- 1:06:14A stripped down but appropriately stylish and personal tribute to a man whose
- 1:06:18passion for cars changed the way we drive.
- 1:06:21Three out of five.
- 1:06:22That's the one positive review of this movie, and it's still like, it's okay.
- 1:06:27Yeah, the middle of the road is the best, that's sad.
- 1:06:29Top critic Robert Abel of The Wrap said, Pamphletized biopic that
- 1:06:33does the easy thing, beautifying Italy and vintage automobiles.
- 1:06:37but stalls with everything involving humans.
- 1:06:40And top critic Mortada Alfaro of the AV Club, fortunately the movie is only
- 1:06:4597 minutes long, but even this grace note comes at a cost to the viewer.
- 1:06:49The end of the story comes out of nowhere as if the filmmakers ran
- 1:06:52out of money and stopped shooting before they were really done.
- 1:06:55D.
- 1:06:55So Tanya did say that when we were watching the film, because at one point we
- 1:06:59paused because it was, you know, building up to Geneva and we're like, wow, this is
- 1:07:03going to take a while if the end goal here is to get to 92, like we got a ways to go.
- 1:07:07So for whatever reason, you know, maybe it was get a snack or a bottle of water.
- 1:07:11It was like pause.
- 1:07:12And then we're like.
- 1:07:13Dang, we're 80 percent of the way through the movie like
- 1:07:16this thing's almost over here.
- 1:07:18Here's the thing.
- 1:07:19Geneva should have been like the second act, like the rise
- 1:07:23to glory and blah, blah, blah.
- 1:07:25And then, you know, the fall or, you know, at least the battle
- 1:07:28with Ferrari coming after them.
- 1:07:30And there's low points and actual character growth and blah, blah, blah.
- 1:07:33Nope.
- 1:07:33We just cut to 30 years later when he died.
- 1:07:35So bizarre.
- 1:07:36Chapter three was more like the thank you note at the end of a book.
- 1:07:40Flatline.
- 1:07:40Thanks for reading.
- 1:07:42Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 1:07:42By Lamborghini, you know, exactly, exactly.
- 1:07:45But we got some more of that awesome race and, you know, him pushing model cars on
- 1:07:49his desk, which didn't understand that either, the imagery there, the metaphor.
- 1:07:55But guys, do you know who was originally cast to be in this movie?
- 1:07:58Oh, this ought to be good.
- 1:08:00As Ferruccio?
- 1:08:01Both.
- 1:08:01As Ferruccio Lamborghini, it was going to be played by Antonio Banderas.
- 1:08:06All right.
- 1:08:09Cool.
- 1:08:09I mean, Frank Grillo, let's go with that.
- 1:08:12In the role of Enzo Ferrari.
- 1:08:15Alec Baldwin.
- 1:08:16No.
- 1:08:17Yeah.
- 1:08:19Keep in mind.
- 1:08:19This was more than a year ago when they were shooting us.
- 1:08:24He wasn't making Westerns and you know, whatever.
- 1:08:27That would have turned out like framing John DeLorean.
- 1:08:30I mean, can you imagine?
- 1:08:31Yeah.
- 1:08:31He would have reprised the role of El General from 30 Rock.
- 1:08:39All right.
- 1:08:39Well, all right.
- 1:08:40If you guys were Casting a real Lamborghini movie, who would you
- 1:08:44have as Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari?
- 1:08:46I don't know, based on this picture of Ferruccio, Alec Baldwin with
- 1:08:50dyed black hair actually might have been a better Lamborghini.
- 1:08:55I would go with Wayne Newton for Ferruccio because they got
- 1:08:58the same style in the hair.
- 1:09:00He still spray paints his hair black.
- 1:09:02And I think for Ferrari I would have pulled the dude from Ford
- 1:09:05versus Ferrari because nobody remembers who the hell he is.
- 1:09:07His name is Remo.
- 1:09:08Remo Girone, yeah.
- 1:09:10Cause yeah, I remember him being really good.
- 1:09:12What was the Timothy Dalton movie where Wayne Newton was the bad guy?
- 1:09:15Licensed to Kill.
- 1:09:16Yeah, yeah, see?
- 1:09:17Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:18It's a great flick.
- 1:09:19White suit and the pompadour, I'm telling you.
- 1:09:21Wayne's too old and had too many plastic surgeries.
- 1:09:24I feel like they could have cast anybody in this movie.
- 1:09:27They're the whole country of Italians.
- 1:09:29Just saying.
- 1:09:30Yeah.
- 1:09:30Yeah.
- 1:09:31Roberto Benigni as Enzo Ferrari.
- 1:09:33Would have been more convincing.
- 1:09:35I would have replaced Mia Sorvino too, because it was like, she just
- 1:09:39felt out of place in this movie.
- 1:09:40I absolutely agree.
- 1:09:41She should be Marissa Tomei.
- 1:09:43You know, that's a good call, actually.
- 1:09:47They did a good job pairing the younger version of her.
- 1:09:50With Mia Serena.
- 1:09:51So whoever they found that actress who was a no name, basically, I was
- 1:09:55like, okay, I can see the transition.
- 1:09:57You aged her up gracefully.
- 1:09:59It just didn't fit at the end of the day.
- 1:10:01I was totally expecting Adrian Brody to come back later in
- 1:10:04the movie as Mateo or whatever.
- 1:10:08No, no, no.
- 1:10:09That dude took his 25 percent and went away.
- 1:10:12He's in Argentina or something, but I'm like, yeah, what happened to that guy?
- 1:10:15Like, what's his story?
- 1:10:16He probably never existed.
- 1:10:18That is probably true too.
- 1:10:20He probably represents like the other investor in Lamborghini,
- 1:10:24whoever it may have been.
- 1:10:25He represents the 25 percent of the audience that like this movie.
- 1:10:29Yeah, Matteo loves this fucking movie.
- 1:10:31That's basically it.
- 1:10:33He's the only person in this movie that loved it.
- 1:10:35Even the dad was kind of like, eh, two out of five.
- 1:10:38Oh, and guys, we gotta find out because, I don't know if you know
- 1:10:40this, we're on a podcast called Everything I Learned From Movies.
- 1:10:43What did we learn from Lamborghini, the man behind the legend?
- 1:10:48Well, I didn't learn anything.
- 1:10:49What I learned was through Wikipedia that he had other children and grandchildren.
- 1:10:53I also did not learn much, but a fact checking is important and you shouldn't
- 1:10:58use chat GPT to write a screenplay.
- 1:11:00I just got confused.
- 1:11:01I didn't learn anything.
- 1:11:02I just got confused.
- 1:11:03What did you learn, Steve?
- 1:11:05I learned that those Danish cookie tins have been around forever.
- 1:11:08And they're like, they're basically the equivalent of like Mason jars
- 1:11:12buried in the backyard in Italy.
- 1:11:15Find those on Oak Island.
- 1:11:16So do Native Americans use these for centuries before the light man came over,
- 1:11:24like, how the fuck did they get them?
- 1:11:26And there's still dance brand too.
- 1:11:28There's only one manufacturer of those shortbread cookies.
- 1:11:33Well, that being said, folks, if you enjoyed our review of this extremely
- 1:11:38terrible movie, you can find a lot more of them with Steve and Izzy over
- 1:11:42at Everything I Learned From Movies.
- 1:11:43So, Steve, tell the audience how they can get a hold of you guys.
- 1:11:46Oh, of course.
- 1:11:47We're on all the major podcatchers under Everything I Learned From Movies.

- 1:12:01We just started here in February.
- 1:12:03We're reviewing porns because we drew the theme of porn
- 1:12:07month that was suggested to us.
- 1:12:08Actually just today our episode for hot and saucy pizza girls just
- 1:12:11dropped and man oh man was that fun.
- 1:12:13So if you want to hear Izzy almost vomit in some scenes, listen to
- 1:12:16those episodes or come back to our regularly scheduled bullshit when we
- 1:12:20start Marky March talking about Mark Wahlberg movies and then April and May.
- 1:12:26You guys may really be interested in May because we're talking stunt movies.
- 1:12:30And so we're going to see a lot of fucking cars doing cool shit and blowing up.
- 1:12:33Oh, that's time to invite us back.
- 1:12:35That's right.
- 1:12:37You know, what I'm happy though, is we found a new movie that
- 1:12:41we could all review together.
- 1:12:44It follows suit is terrible.
- 1:12:46So this is great.
- 1:12:47So now we get to look forward to whatever the next one is.
- 1:12:50Absolutely.
