- 0:21Speaker 3: Welcome to the May twenty twenty six edition of the
- 0:23Speaker 3: four Finger Discount mail Bagdano.
- 0:28Speaker 1: And you's guy.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I like throwing you off sometimes because you're so used
- 0:34Speaker 3: to do the status quo, and sometimes I throw these
- 0:35Speaker 3: curve balls and you're like Jesus.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I fear change. I'm like Garth from Winesworld. Uh yeah,
- 0:41Speaker 1: I'm guy. Hello everyone, and welcome to the bail Bag. Yes,
- 0:44Speaker 1: sport from May. We're almost halfway through twenty twenty six.
- 0:47Speaker 3: It is deep with balls deep, some would say, you
- 0:50Speaker 3: might say that, and yeah, it's it's been.
- 0:55Speaker 1: It's been a fun few months. Yeah yeah, despite twenty
- 0:59Speaker 1: six being twenty twenty six and everything like that, it's
- 1:01Speaker 1: been good. And what's been good about it. We've got
- 1:03Speaker 1: some lovely messages from our supporters, supporters and friends, pals, patrons,
- 1:08Speaker 1: all that good stuff, all the lovely people out there.
- 1:10Speaker 3: So we're gonna be touching on some Simpsons based news,
- 1:12Speaker 3: answer some of your questions. But before that, though, let's
- 1:15Speaker 3: just talk about life.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Oh okay, then sure, this is your life.
- 1:19Speaker 3: So what's your what's your May being like his mother's
- 1:21Speaker 3: days just went by, and what's you a fore your
- 1:23Speaker 3: Mother's Day? What do you for the lovely Margaret Mary?
- 1:26Speaker 3: Did you get her anything?
- 1:28Speaker 1: Here's the thing I know. I was ready to go
- 1:32Speaker 1: over with a lovely card. No gifts, Margaret Mary is like,
- 1:37Speaker 1: no gifts, enough stuff.
- 1:38Speaker 3: But they always say everyone says no gifts. You know,
- 1:41Speaker 3: you get know when you start saying no gifts, but
- 1:43Speaker 3: deep down you really want one. You say, you're saying,
- 1:46Speaker 3: it's just what it comes in.
- 1:47Speaker 1: I don't want you. I trust my mum enough to
- 1:50Speaker 1: say that she was just happy just to see me,
- 1:51Speaker 1: except I didn't see her. And here's why. Really, I
- 1:54Speaker 1: gave recall that morning because I was going out with
- 1:56Speaker 1: the Lovely Louis's family celebrate Mother's Day for Pam Lose mum.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So we had a very nice brunch. She found a Snoopy,
- 2:05Speaker 1: big fan of Snoopy. That's a private joke. But I
- 2:10Speaker 1: gave my mom a call beforehand about eleven o'clock and
- 2:12Speaker 1: say happy Mother's Day, Mum, and I love you, and
- 2:14Speaker 1: all this kind of stuff all true, and I said,
- 2:16Speaker 1: I gotta do this thing, but I will see you afterwards.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Don't bother. No, no, no, you're singing. You'll sing another mother,
- 2:24Speaker 1: aren't you? Aren't you galivanting? You gallop? I was gallivanting around,
- 2:29Speaker 1: But then I was getting ready to go see Mom.
- 2:31Speaker 1: In the afternoon, I get a call from one of
- 2:33Speaker 1: my sisters saying Mom has put her back out.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Oh yeah, she's had a rough year so far. As wow, yeah,
- 2:39Speaker 3: I mean she did that thing. You'll be aware of this,
- 2:43Speaker 3: as am I.
- 2:45Speaker 1: You turn up and you turn ever so slightly and
- 2:49Speaker 1: all of a sudden, ah, I'm paralyzed. You're vented for
- 2:51Speaker 1: the dishwasher, or you open the fridge, or your sneeze.
- 2:53Speaker 1: You turn your neck ever so slightly, and almost this
- 2:57Speaker 1: happened to my nephew Rory the other day, who's not
- 2:59Speaker 1: even forty yet. At my age, Yeah yeah, he turned
- 3:01Speaker 1: his heads like I've thrown something. I feel it. Go. Yeah,
- 3:05Speaker 1: I need to take time off work early because I'm
- 3:07Speaker 1: just stuff.
- 3:08Speaker 3: When you're sort of like playing sports and stuff, you
- 3:10Speaker 3: do your hammy. But when you get like my age,
- 3:12Speaker 3: you know, you know, you just do everything.
- 3:15Speaker 1: And this was the case with the beloved Margaret Mary,
- 3:19Speaker 1: who came oh yeah she's fine. Yeah, she just had
- 3:22Speaker 1: to take to a bed for the rest of the day,
- 3:23Speaker 1: and my sister said, don't come over. She's gonna be
- 3:27Speaker 1: grumpy and no mood to see anybody. I'm like, okay,
- 3:30Speaker 1: that's fine. I've spoken to her since, of course. Yeah.
- 3:32Speaker 1: I saw her the following day. She went to the
- 3:34Speaker 1: chiropractor and got adjusted.
- 3:36Speaker 3: I'm funny with chiropractice because I went twice and I
- 3:40Speaker 3: feel like my back was never the same. Okay, I
- 3:43Speaker 3: never had lower back issues to the extent I have now.
- 3:47Speaker 3: I never had neck issues period, And I remember to
- 3:50Speaker 3: the chiropractor and he readjusted things, and now it's a
- 3:53Speaker 3: case of once they've been readjusted, they've got to constantly
- 3:56Speaker 3: re adjusted. Yes, And I regret every second and shouted
- 3:59Speaker 3: out all the chiropractice out. You know, I'm not putting
- 4:00Speaker 3: this down, but me personally, I wish I never went.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Well Margaret Mary's Land that you went, because I saw
- 4:07Speaker 1: on Monday night. Yeah, she was up and a mount
- 4:09Speaker 1: and feeling relatively cheerful. So but Mother's Day, unfortunately, was
- 4:12Speaker 1: a bit of a bust in that regard. All my
- 4:14Speaker 1: sisters went over and saw her beforehand, and they all
- 4:17Speaker 1: had a very nice time and everything like that. But Unfortunately,
- 4:20Speaker 1: what did Margaret Mary get for Mother's Day? A bad back?
- 4:23Speaker 1: That's no good son, though I like to think so. Yeah.
- 4:27Speaker 3: So the good thing about having kids is you can
- 4:29Speaker 3: sort of go all right, kids, paint grammar picture, low expectation, No,
- 4:36Speaker 3: this is the thing, and once you've had kids, you
- 4:38Speaker 3: sort of realize you'd love that shit more. You know.
- 4:41Speaker 3: I've had bought my mom in a nice necklace, but
- 4:42Speaker 3: she would prefer to have a picture that the kids
- 4:44Speaker 3: painted for her that she could get to her house
- 4:45Speaker 3: last night. She's already put it on the fridge, you know.
- 4:48Speaker 3: And so they made cards for her.
- 4:49Speaker 1: They paint.
- 4:50Speaker 3: They've got a bluey color and bought the color in
- 4:51Speaker 3: a picture. I've got mom this book, and it's almost
- 4:54Speaker 3: like it's a job for her, but it's not.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So it's a mom I want to.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Know your recipes book, and you're right there all the
- 4:59Speaker 3: recipes you watch. But it's not just giving me your recipes,
- 5:01Speaker 3: it's what are your memories of making this for when
- 5:03Speaker 3: I was a kid.
- 5:04Speaker 1: You was spoken about this a few times. I think
- 5:06Speaker 1: I think it's a very good idea.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Yeah, so I was gonna just make one like a
- 5:09Speaker 3: family recipe book. But this one is you can buy
- 5:10Speaker 3: it from the shop. I was like, oh, this just
- 5:12Speaker 3: that's the job for me. So you're right in there,
- 5:14Speaker 3: which recipes you want mom to write in there? And
- 5:17Speaker 3: it's the recipes, but it's also just the memories of
- 5:20Speaker 3: I remember making I remember what you were doing when
- 5:21Speaker 3: I was making this, and you would always be really
- 5:23Speaker 3: excited when I made spaghetti, and you know, memories of
- 5:25Speaker 3: you I throw a spaghetti around the kitchen table, and just
- 5:27Speaker 3: it's more about memories. Yeah, just the recipes. What the rest?
- 5:31Speaker 3: What memories of recipes bring out him?
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 5:34Speaker 3: So I got it that we did get a just
- 5:36Speaker 3: the classic old gold class gift boucher. I'm funny with
- 5:41Speaker 3: gift cards now. I look at gift cards and I go,
- 5:44Speaker 3: you may as just give them money. Sure, what's the
- 5:47Speaker 3: Nicholas like? No, but the thought of you thought they
- 5:49Speaker 3: would let to go the movies. I was like, I
- 5:50Speaker 3: could also say, here's a hundred dollars, treat yourself to
- 5:52Speaker 3: the movies.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Yeah, there's no different, transfer some money over via yeah, yeah, whatever.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know why I won't be gift cards
- 6:00Speaker 3: any more. Well, at least from the supermarket. That's where
- 6:03Speaker 3: I got it from Guess what happens now?
- 6:05Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Each card six dollar fee transaction excuse me, transaction fee
- 6:09Speaker 3: should say a fee transaction? Yeh six dollars they charge
- 6:11Speaker 3: you per card to process a card at the checkouts. Now,
- 6:15Speaker 3: so I bought one hundred oar gift card, they charged
- 6:17Speaker 3: me one hundred and five ninety five. Isn't that fucking outrageous?
- 6:21Speaker 1: That sucks?
- 6:22Speaker 3: That's madness, right, that's wild. Yeah, six dollars per card.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Brought one for my grandma too. It was six dollars
- 6:28Speaker 3: per CARDIP five dollars ninety five transaction fee.
- 6:31Speaker 1: But don't stand for it. Don't stand for it, madness.
- 6:34Speaker 1: What are we doing?
- 6:35Speaker 3: Make a stand people, stop doing it, Stop buying gift
- 6:37Speaker 3: off allowing them to do this side gifts not gift cards.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Yeah, well just give them money. Nixon. Next one is
- 6:43Speaker 1: put one hundred dollars in the card. She's like, yeah, sure,
- 6:46Speaker 1: I bought one hundred.
- 6:46Speaker 3: And twelve dollars in a card. Gift card fees, but
- 6:50Speaker 3: that's what we got, Mum and made a good time.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Mum came over with my grandma and my auntie and
- 6:54Speaker 3: my sister and Nicolas here and have a girl's uh
- 6:58Speaker 3: high tea high tea high tea.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I made the sandwiches. I fixed them some sandwiches sandwiches.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:03Speaker 3: It's funny because my mum goes Grandma. She doesn't like cheese,
- 7:07Speaker 3: so make sure you just have hammet tomato, and she
- 7:08Speaker 3: likes she likes ham sandwiches, and so I mean a
- 7:10Speaker 3: shoot load of ham and tomato sandwiches, ham sandwiches. Grandma
- 7:14Speaker 3: doesn't touch one of them, touches all the chicken sandwiches.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I was like, Momy, you said she like ham, and
- 7:18Speaker 1: she was like, well normally she does. When you say touching,
- 7:22Speaker 1: did she actually put any of her mouth that shouldn't
- 7:24Speaker 1: eat any of them? Oh, you were just like poking them.
- 7:27Speaker 3: I made chicken sandwiches as well, but all the hamwtch
- 7:29Speaker 3: didn't go near it, didn't touch it. But that's I
- 7:31Speaker 3: made the ham one specifically for Grandma because Mom was like,
- 7:33Speaker 3: she only really likes ham sandwiches, and then she's like,
- 7:35Speaker 3: oh no, but she does. But I guess the chicken
- 7:37Speaker 3: ones must have been good. I was like, sure were.
- 7:41Speaker 1: So we just sent her home with a bunch of sandwiches.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Was was it? Nicola? Well treated on Mother's Day.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Nicola was weld treated. So we was a bunch of
- 7:47Speaker 3: just a bunch of crazy crap from the kids. You know,
- 7:49Speaker 3: you take the kids at the supermarkets, like Mum would
- 7:51Speaker 3: like this.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Mum would like that.
- 7:51Speaker 3: It was like a mug And they have her Mother's
- 7:54Speaker 3: Day stall at school and you send fifteen dollars with
- 7:56Speaker 3: them and they just pick out a bunch of crape.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Funny story.
- 8:00Speaker 3: One of Elliott's friends goes to this goes to this
- 8:05Speaker 3: school more Mother's Day, A fair thing comes back with
- 8:09Speaker 3: a whistle, was a whim why for himself? I spent
- 8:14Speaker 3: the rest of the money at the canteen. I was
- 8:16Speaker 3: like you legend, and now when we keep the footy
- 8:21Speaker 3: after school, he plays the umpire with his whistle, you
- 8:25Speaker 3: give it to us.
- 8:26Speaker 1: He kept it.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Little lord is a little whistle and bought bots some
- 8:33Speaker 3: chips for himself at the canteen. But my question is
- 8:37Speaker 3: what's the best Mother's Day gift you've ever bought your
- 8:39Speaker 3: mum or given your mom? Can you remember besides being born?
- 8:41Speaker 1: Of course? Well, yeah, I mean I am the greatest
- 8:43Speaker 1: gift that is, that's clearly. But when you're in school
- 8:46Speaker 1: you make a lot of stuff. As you know, you
- 8:48Speaker 1: can go to the stall and buy a lot of
- 8:50Speaker 1: holy made a card. Yeah, that was the greatest gift
- 8:54Speaker 1: we got my mum. Chips from myself made some nice pottery.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Yeah, my mum's still got a vase that I made
- 9:02Speaker 3: for her.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Likewise, Yeah, mine is still sort of floating around. It's like,
- 9:05Speaker 1: holy moly, that was made back in the eighties. Yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 1: it's still getting the job done. Yeah. I think I
- 9:10Speaker 1: think Mum's ever smoked. She might have smoked like a
- 9:12Speaker 1: couple of cigarettes back in the back in the day
- 9:15Speaker 1: that you know of that I know of. Yeah, but
- 9:16Speaker 1: I think I'm made of something that was probably could
- 9:18Speaker 1: have been used as an astralia, and I think she
- 9:20Speaker 1: ever did use that as an ASTRAI but it's like, oh,
- 9:22Speaker 1: this is a nice bit of ceramics around the place.
- 9:25Speaker 1: So yeah, that was probably probably the nicest thing I think,
- 9:29Speaker 1: because you know, I legitimately made it was like, IM's
- 9:32Speaker 1: really gonna like this. I'm really paying attention on the pottery.
- 9:34Speaker 1: It was making sure that you know, it look just right,
- 9:37Speaker 1: and it turned out pretty well.
- 9:38Speaker 3: It's so funny you brought that up because I think
- 9:40Speaker 3: the most long standing gift I've ever got mum is
- 9:42Speaker 3: the vase and it's still sitting there on a shelf
- 9:45Speaker 3: and she's like, yeah, I love that thing you made
- 9:47Speaker 3: from from Mother's Day back in year eight And I
- 9:48Speaker 3: was like, that's two thousand and two. Wow, this is
- 9:51Speaker 3: like twenty four years. I mean, obviously you made in
- 9:53Speaker 3: the eighties, it's even older, ever older. But yeah, sometimes
- 9:56Speaker 3: just making them something sure, And as a parent, I
- 9:59Speaker 3: now get it's when they made something, it's like, you
- 10:00Speaker 3: know what, you put the effort into that.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:04Speaker 3: So but what do you do? What do you love
- 10:05Speaker 3: the most about your mum? Oh my goodness, that's a
- 10:08Speaker 3: tough one. I think For me, my mom has just
- 10:10Speaker 3: always been supporting, supportive of me, just not wanting to
- 10:14Speaker 3: be the norm. You know, I wanted to you know,
- 10:17Speaker 3: I quit UNI to sort of do radio and things
- 10:20Speaker 3: like that, and I quit my job a few years
- 10:22Speaker 3: ago to sort of do podcasting. And I know, deep down,
- 10:26Speaker 3: my mum's always just like, oh, I wish you wouldn't
- 10:28Speaker 3: do that. But she's never I know she thinks it,
- 10:30Speaker 3: but she's never said it. She's always been like, no,
- 10:33Speaker 3: you can do it. But I know she I know
- 10:35Speaker 3: she believes I can do it, but I can see
- 10:37Speaker 3: the fear in her eyes because she is very much
- 10:39Speaker 3: the opposite. She is get a job, do it well,
- 10:41Speaker 3: and just stay there.
- 10:42Speaker 1: We are quite similar in that regard, because yeah, I mean,
- 10:45Speaker 1: I think Mama's mom probably has said it, I wish
- 10:49Speaker 1: you had stayed at UNI. Didn't your mom say to
- 10:52Speaker 1: you reasons lose a stone or two? Oh yeah, no, painfully honest,
- 10:57Speaker 1: and she was right to say. She was right to
- 11:00Speaker 1: do it. But also it is obvious that every statement
- 11:05Speaker 1: is made with love and respect and affection and my
- 11:08Speaker 1: best intentions. So yeah, yeah, her best intentions for me,
- 11:13Speaker 1: I should say. So, I mean that is obvious in
- 11:15Speaker 1: everything that she says.
- 11:16Speaker 3: I think my mom's also she was always, or she
- 11:19Speaker 3: is always the mum of all of my friends and
- 11:22Speaker 3: my sister's friends. She was just, ah, you know, our
- 11:25Speaker 3: house became like a drop in center when we're growing
- 11:27Speaker 3: up because all the kids were just because we grew
- 11:28Speaker 3: up in Corya and or Lane and all the kids
- 11:30Speaker 3: would just you know, maybe not have a very good
- 11:32Speaker 3: life at home, and they would just come to stay
- 11:33Speaker 3: at our house because they just loved my mum. They
- 11:35Speaker 3: always seen my mom as mum. You know, my mom
- 11:37Speaker 3: was like that. She was like the communal mum.
- 11:40Speaker 1: That's adorable. But what's going on? New'sing your word at
- 11:43Speaker 1: the moment? Oh my goodness, now doing funeral services. I am. Indeed,
- 11:47Speaker 1: listeners of the show will be aware that I retrained
- 11:50Speaker 1: as a celebrant. What's your website? Guy Davis celebrant dot
- 11:54Speaker 1: com dot au, linking the description of the part, Yeah, Lincoln,
- 11:57Speaker 1: the show notes for all your Yeah, so if you
- 12:01Speaker 1: need a celebrant for a funeral or a commitment ceremony
- 12:04Speaker 1: or a naming day, or you need an MC, there's
- 12:07Speaker 1: a component of the website that says, if you want
- 12:09Speaker 1: Guy Davis to MC your event, he can do it,
- 12:12Speaker 1: and do it well, but you've got to get those
- 12:14Speaker 1: first few jobs. And I've got my first job actually
- 12:17Speaker 1: tomorrow as recordings. I'm laying a very nice lady to
- 12:21Speaker 1: rest and helping a family through that. Through that process,
- 12:25Speaker 1: it's very rewarding. It's kind of tough. I mean, it's emotionally,
- 12:28Speaker 1: it's a it's the pressure of not screwing up. Well,
- 12:30Speaker 1: there's that too, yeah, which is a constant every day.
- 12:34Speaker 3: By this very much. My marriage don't screw it up.
- 12:39Speaker 1: But having said that, meeting with the family members yesterday
- 12:42Speaker 1: and sort of talking them through the process and everything
- 12:45Speaker 1: like that, I don't know. I felt confident in my
- 12:49Speaker 1: ability to do it, and a lot of people that
- 12:52Speaker 1: I love and respect are behind me. So yeah, I'm
- 12:56Speaker 1: feeling pretty.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Good about it now. A bit of sort of forthing
- 12:58Speaker 3: a discount and you, as it was Star Wars month,
- 13:02Speaker 3: we're talking about ourselves. Yeah, so this one here, this
- 13:05Speaker 3: episode Codependant Stay, the episode that like, yeah, had the
- 13:08Speaker 3: cosmic war.
- 13:08Speaker 1: So I touched on it.
- 13:09Speaker 3: On the on the social media, saying this episode features
- 13:12Speaker 3: a really weird sidetrack of Star Wars parody. Yaddiada, YadA,
- 13:15Speaker 3: and someone goes, I see you made the wiki page.
- 13:18Speaker 3: I was like, whoa what God damn, that's what it says.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Reception on four figure Discount Guy Davis and Brendan Danner
- 13:25Speaker 3: thought the episode was the shittiest episode they had ever reviewed.
- 13:29Speaker 3: They said the homo putty margin in the driver seat
- 13:30Speaker 3: to avoid a dui was unfuacking, forgivable.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Who put that there?
- 13:36Speaker 3: We come across like absolute haters, Yeah, haters, and we're
- 13:40Speaker 3: not our language bad boys.
- 13:43Speaker 1: I think the terrible thing about it? Is it a
- 13:45Speaker 1: four figure discount's got.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Its own wiki page? It looks it doesn't know, I'm
- 13:48Speaker 3: going to make one for us now, well yeah, yeah,
- 13:50Speaker 3: and put in response saying fair and measured analysis of
- 13:54Speaker 3: Simpsons episodes I supposed to just been unre believable haters. Wow,
- 14:00Speaker 3: if any episode deserves it, though, it's this one.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Well that's true. Yeah. I mean, if we are going
- 14:03Speaker 1: to be called out or cited, then this is probably
- 14:07Speaker 1: the case. This is like that time that someone put
- 14:11Speaker 1: a little capsule bio of me on my dad's wiki
- 14:15Speaker 1: page because my dad was like, oh, that's right. It
- 14:16Speaker 1: was like Bob David says, god co has full finger discount.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't want this on Dad's thing. I
- 14:23Speaker 1: don't want tinnage Legacy said no, no, no, not that.
- 14:25Speaker 1: But it's like set up a wiki page for guy. Yeah.
- 14:28Speaker 1: As a person, I don't think anyone checking out Bob
- 14:31Speaker 1: Davis's wiki Page's going to go, well Simpson, his son's
- 14:34Speaker 1: got our senses, better check this shit out. But it's
- 14:37Speaker 1: none of the best intentions. It was indeed, like a
- 14:39Speaker 1: lot of things. Now there's some news going out, right,
- 14:42Speaker 1: do you have any of the news. I mean, I've
- 14:43Speaker 1: sort of talked a lot about myself that the news
- 14:46Speaker 1: that you want to talk about, But you're on wiki
- 14:48Speaker 1: saying things are unfucking believable apparent.
- 14:51Speaker 3: But I can't believe we have to have this discussion again.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Why is it? Why is it that news work? I
- 14:57Speaker 3: know why they do it because people idiots click on it. Yes,
- 15:01Speaker 3: but it's twenty twenty six and we're still going with
- 15:04Speaker 3: the headline of the Simpsons predicted things.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 3: How many times do people have to come out, including
- 15:08Speaker 3: the people who work on the show, and say we
- 15:11Speaker 3: don't predict things. Things just happen. Yes, because the show
- 15:14Speaker 3: has been going for so long. But these news when
- 15:16Speaker 3: I say news websites, are not real news websites. They're
- 15:19Speaker 3: the clickbait news websites. But they run wild with it.
- 15:21Speaker 3: And this time it's the hunt of virus on the
- 15:24Speaker 3: cruise ship, yes, which is never true if you actually
- 15:27Speaker 3: look into the story. So what they're saying is, you know,
- 15:29Speaker 3: the Simpsons predicted the hunt of virus on virus on
- 15:31Speaker 3: a cruise ship in the episode. I think it's off
- 15:33Speaker 3: from season twenty two or maybe thirty, I don't know.
- 15:36Speaker 3: I will look up the episode. Basically, Bart is on
- 15:38Speaker 3: a cruise ship with the family and he doesn't want
- 15:40Speaker 3: to get off the cruise so he pretends it's a virus,
- 15:42Speaker 3: so they let them get off the cruise ship. So
- 15:44Speaker 3: the virus isn't even real in the episode, people aren't
- 15:46Speaker 3: getting sick.
- 15:48Speaker 1: What are we doing here? The funniest thing, We're not
- 15:49Speaker 1: going to name this site that put this story together.
- 15:52Speaker 1: There's plenty of them you can if you want it,
- 15:54Speaker 1: but the one that you link to, at least, we're
- 15:56Speaker 1: not gonna name it. But I was reading it and
- 15:58Speaker 1: going down it's like, it's got the headline did the
- 16:00Speaker 1: Simpsons predict the hunt of virus outbreak? A lot of preamble.
- 16:04Speaker 1: You're about maybe eight paragraphs in then you're a little
- 16:08Speaker 1: sub head So did it predict the hantavirus? Underneath that? Really?
- 16:11Speaker 1: Not really? It's scroll us all the ads.
- 16:16Speaker 3: You already clicked on the link of this particulars What
- 16:19Speaker 3: was that though? Marketing Indiana Jones the four K. But yeah,
- 16:23Speaker 3: so it says it's from an episode a totally fun
- 16:25Speaker 3: thing but will never do again. Season twenty three, episode nineteen,
- 16:28Speaker 3: So it won't be far away from that one, okay,
- 16:30Speaker 3: but yes, and did he do it? No he didn't, Yes,
- 16:33Speaker 3: not really, not really. There are a few things wrong
- 16:34Speaker 3: with this prediction to start the virus in the show
- 16:36Speaker 3: was fake. In the episode, Bart shows the ship a
- 16:38Speaker 3: clip from a movie to make the passagers believe that
- 16:40Speaker 3: a virus is taken over the globe.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Now, having said all this, yeah, the unified theory of
- 16:47Speaker 1: forefinger discount still applies. It does because hantavirus real thing
- 16:52Speaker 1: really existed. There was an outbreak just recently. People passed away.
- 16:55Speaker 1: It's pretty sad. How long ago on Speaking of the Hill,
- 17:00Speaker 1: did we talk about the Hunter virus? Not long ago?
- 17:03Speaker 1: This month there was an episode where last week, yeah,
- 17:07Speaker 1: Peggy works as a substitute teacher because the previous teacher
- 17:10Speaker 1: got Hunter virus. Yeah, that was the first time I've
- 17:12Speaker 1: ever heard about it. And now it's all over the planes.
- 17:16Speaker 3: So Kick of the Hill predicted it, and we talked
- 17:19Speaker 3: about King predicted the entire virus.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Indeed, So yeah, get your facts right. Title of website
- 17:25Speaker 1: I will not name.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Yeah, they're all the same, they're all fake websites. But yeah, no,
- 17:29Speaker 3: it didn't. The Simpsons did not predict Hunt of virus.
- 17:31Speaker 3: On a cruise ship all fake news. I also find
- 17:34Speaker 3: to hear it interesting. So the Quebec in French say itbaqua.
- 17:41Speaker 1: French, I believe.
- 17:42Speaker 3: So they've been doing obviously dubbing the series The Simpsons
- 17:45Speaker 3: for thirty six seasons and then I'm not sure whether
- 17:48Speaker 3: the channel lost the riots or something, they didn't renew
- 17:50Speaker 3: the license, and then they just stopped doing it in
- 17:52Speaker 3: their language. And all the viewers who speak that language
- 17:55Speaker 3: are like outrage because saying, what do you mean now
- 17:57Speaker 3: we've got to watch it in a different language.
- 17:58Speaker 1: It doesn't make any sense.
- 18:00Speaker 3: It's been it's been rectified, and now once again, how
- 18:03Speaker 3: do you say it again? Quebec qua keebaqua French is
- 18:07Speaker 3: gonna dubbed again. I actually watched the clip they put
- 18:08Speaker 3: out on social media of Bart and Lisa speaking the lane.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Oh yeah, how was it? It's it's it's a beautiful language.
- 18:15Speaker 1: It's just nice. It's just you have no idea what
- 18:16Speaker 1: they're saying, but it's just pleasant to listen to. Yeah.
- 18:19Speaker 1: French just like that. And French Canadian, Yeah, I mean
- 18:22Speaker 1: French Canadian French or French Canadian quebec qua is yeah,
- 18:25Speaker 1: different from say the French that they speak in France.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Yes, so so Bell Media here I reached a deal
- 18:31Speaker 3: with Disney Entertainment to broadcast the series. Bell Media says
- 18:34Speaker 3: season thirty six, because they're a season behind.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Also, I love that Inada they're called Lisimson, which looks
- 18:41Speaker 1: like Les Simpson. Yeah, it does looks like the Simpsons Australian.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I thought it Simpsons, We're going to Australia to visit
- 18:50Speaker 1: my cousin Liz.
- 18:52Speaker 3: I found it interesting though that for thirty says for
- 18:54Speaker 3: thirty five seasons, their language version of the show featured
- 18:57Speaker 3: local place names, politicians, current events, and popular ession. So
- 19:00Speaker 3: it's a different version of the show. Okay, so what
- 19:03Speaker 3: so it's not they changed do they change story on its?
- 19:06Speaker 1: What they changed storyline?
- 19:08Speaker 3: Probably just change references local place names, politicians, so the reference.
- 19:13Speaker 1: But then that may have a flow on effect to
- 19:15Speaker 1: everything else, right, like current events and things like that.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought it very interesting that they wonder if
- 19:21Speaker 3: they do it for other languages as well, or it's
- 19:23Speaker 3: just this one.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised if they did, because as when
- 19:26Speaker 1: sure these languages there's cash phrase and what in English
- 19:29Speaker 1: that would not transfer. Oh yeah, of course you have to.
- 19:33Speaker 3: But yeah, so good for the viewers of this of
- 19:35Speaker 3: this version of the show getting the show in their language.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Miss yes, And finally this is one for me of
- 19:42Speaker 3: course it is so Songs in the Keys Springfield. I've
- 19:45Speaker 3: been constantly saying it needs a vinyl release, needs a
- 19:47Speaker 3: vinyl release, one of my favorite music CDs of all time.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Finally getting a vinyl release, double LP coming out in September.
- 19:53Speaker 3: I believe you can pre order it. It's just going
- 19:55Speaker 3: to be on the Disney Music Imporium website. So I
- 19:58Speaker 3: pal over in the States, drop ship. You bought up
- 20:03Speaker 3: some goodies for me recently. Whatever I've got, I've got
- 20:05Speaker 3: them all for seven dollars Australian.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Wow.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Yeah, brand new just some warehouse on email, was just
- 20:10Speaker 3: clearing out four K. I got almost famous the ring.
- 20:14Speaker 3: I got the Back to the Future Trilogy box set
- 20:15Speaker 3: forty ten diversity box set for twenty Australian dollars. It's
- 20:18Speaker 3: one hundred dollars in Australia.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Wow.
- 20:20Speaker 3: And what was the other one I missed? I've Godfather
- 20:23Speaker 3: one too?
- 20:23Speaker 1: Neat Yeah, oh you.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Did well, I did well, indeed, Yes, But something's in
- 20:27Speaker 3: the key Springfield. You're a fan of the Simpsons, You're
- 20:29Speaker 3: obviously gonna love that one.
- 20:30Speaker 1: It's all right, Well, you know you don't have to
- 20:31Speaker 1: buy some new record shows because your yours are they're
- 20:34Speaker 1: pretty full straining, they're crammed. All right, question time hit me?
- 20:38Speaker 1: All right?
- 20:38Speaker 3: This fun This first question of here comes from Aaron Knowles. Hey, guys,
- 20:43Speaker 3: with Mother's Day fast approaching or maybe gone by the
- 20:45Speaker 3: time you read this, if you were correct eron I
- 20:48Speaker 3: was wondering, what what is your favorite Marge moments or quotes?
- 20:53Speaker 3: Hm favorite March moments or quotes. One always comes immediately
- 20:57Speaker 3: to mind is when gives Marge the photo that he
- 21:01Speaker 3: took in Marge being not proud, the directing, the visual
- 21:05Speaker 3: of the Marge or tearing up the acting from Julie
- 21:07Speaker 3: Kavna there where she knows that's the best thing she's
- 21:09Speaker 3: ever were touched on earlier sometimes they did mothers just
- 21:12Speaker 3: like the effort. And most are the gifts, And that's
- 21:14Speaker 3: one of my favorite Simpsons moments of all time. But
- 21:16Speaker 3: it's the button of she then gives him the gift
- 21:19Speaker 3: that she thinks is the one that he wanted. It's
- 21:22Speaker 3: not what he wanted, but he says that the directing
- 21:24Speaker 3: of you see her face, her hopeful face, and he
- 21:26Speaker 3: doesn't have the heart to sell her otherwise.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I love that. Also visually, I've.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Always loved It's Homer alone when she goes to Rancho
- 21:34Speaker 3: relaxo and she just sinks into the bath.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I was about to say the exact same thing one. Yeah,
- 21:38Speaker 1: that's really good. I mean, I love the visioning away
- 21:40Speaker 1: to Rancho relax It's like.
- 21:41Speaker 3: You feel relaxed watching her sink into the laugh.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Yeah, anytime Marge lets her head down, we're very happy
- 21:46Speaker 1: with that.
- 21:46Speaker 3: I think's the same episode two, whereas look, it's better
- 21:49Speaker 3: be good just goes crazy a than them, don't.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and look, because I'm obvious Marge's liking potatoes because
- 21:57Speaker 1: she just thinks they're need, she doesn't think they're neat.
- 21:59Speaker 1: But also that that can I bet on every team
- 22:02Speaker 1: just having a good time? It's so true. As someone
- 22:09Speaker 1: who is not a gambler, I'm like, can we just
- 22:11Speaker 1: bet on boat team they having a good time? That'd
- 22:13Speaker 1: be great.
- 22:14Speaker 3: That's funny obviously, I mean, for obvious reasons, I've never
- 22:16Speaker 3: really related to Marge herself or related to the margin
- 22:21Speaker 3: homer parenting dynamic. I thinkure there are elements of Marge
- 22:23Speaker 3: that I relate to. But do you think she's an
- 22:26Speaker 3: underrated character?
- 22:27Speaker 1: Marge?
- 22:28Speaker 3: You don't really get many Marge centric episodes, and they've
- 22:31Speaker 3: always said that they found.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Them hard to write. Yeah, but I think the moments
- 22:35Speaker 1: that hit with audiences really hit hard and really hit home.
- 22:39Speaker 1: So yeah, I don't think she's underrated. I think she's
- 22:42Speaker 1: I think she's well used. Could possibly use a little
- 22:47Speaker 1: more or a little better, certainly, But yeah, I think
- 22:50Speaker 1: the writers might be descanning themselves when they say, oh,
- 22:53Speaker 1: we don't know how to right Marge, or we have
- 22:55Speaker 1: trouble with it sometimes, like I think, more often, nothing
- 22:58Speaker 1: yet it right.
- 23:00Speaker 3: Her dynamic of being the housewife who stayed home looking
- 23:02Speaker 3: after the baby feels kind of dated.
- 23:04Speaker 1: It does a bit. Yeah, I mean that's just the
- 23:07Speaker 1: way society is now, of course, I mean it's it
- 23:10Speaker 1: was beaverly relevant when the show started.
- 23:11Speaker 3: And could they flip the script in like season thirty
- 23:14Speaker 3: eight and have Homer be the stay at home dad
- 23:17Speaker 3: and Marge be the one going out to earn a living.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Would it work? That connect?
- 23:21Speaker 3: You done againstany and Homer's just not responsible enough. But
- 23:24Speaker 3: could you make him. I don't know it's changing the
- 23:26Speaker 3: dynamic of the show too much, as I think it
- 23:28Speaker 3: would disrupt things too much for it. Yeah, things are
- 23:30Speaker 3: sort of some things are bolted on at this stage.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Has there been episodes where home is to stay at home? Oh?
- 23:36Speaker 3: They must have been right, and Marge goes, but Marge,
- 23:38Speaker 3: I know this. Marge gets a job, but is there
- 23:40Speaker 3: Marge gets a job, which means Homer has to stay
- 23:43Speaker 3: home and watch the kids. It's such a sitcom kind
- 23:46Speaker 3: of trope, isn't They must have missed a mom thing
- 23:48Speaker 3: that you think they would have.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Had to have done it in some stage or another. Yeah,
- 23:52Speaker 1: a lot of stuff, And of course you know Margin
- 23:55Speaker 1: and the Chanelle suits. That whole episode I thought was
- 23:57Speaker 1: just marvels is not relatable, says He also think it's
- 24:00Speaker 1: the best Marge centric episode. That is a great one.
- 24:02Speaker 1: That's the one for me.
- 24:04Speaker 3: I've also really liked the Marginal Yeah, Marginal, them's a
- 24:09Speaker 3: good one with her with with rift powers. Oh yeah,
- 24:12Speaker 3: and Louise parody. But I've liked when She's a cop.
- 24:15Speaker 3: That was a group of connections. A good episode.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Brush of Greatness is another good one, which course, yeah,
- 24:22Speaker 3: and go star. Oh it was marvelous. Yeah, it's a
- 24:26Speaker 3: good episode. A lot of March episodes of her sort
- 24:28Speaker 3: of trying to discover No, you have you do have
- 24:30Speaker 3: more to offer, That's correct. I think a problem with
- 24:34Speaker 3: this isn't the problem with Marge so much, but I
- 24:37Speaker 3: think we've had it in episodes I've made the last
- 24:39Speaker 3: few seasons where it's just Homer fucks up and Marge
- 24:43Speaker 3: calls him out on it or is upset about it,
- 24:45Speaker 3: but eventually forgives him.
- 24:47Speaker 1: It's like, why no real, Yeah, other than she loves him. Yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 1: if there's any reason to sort of dislike Marge or
- 24:53Speaker 1: the way that margin was in is because you kind
- 24:55Speaker 1: of seem like a doormat. Why do you keep going
- 24:57Speaker 1: back to this guy when there is every reason not to.
- 24:59Speaker 3: Yeah, And it feels like in the earlier season she
- 25:02Speaker 3: she was a doormat to an extent, but she would
- 25:04Speaker 3: also hold.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Him accountable at least as well. Yes, yeah, yeah, all
- 25:07Speaker 1: the stuff that Homer would do to sort of get
- 25:09Speaker 1: on the wrong side of Marge or to mess up
- 25:12Speaker 1: wasn't quite as bad. I mean, leaving here the courts
- 25:16Speaker 1: wheel of a car.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Next Aaron says, cheers for the last of the last
- 25:21Speaker 3: few years, as I've become a new mother myself.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Congratulations.
- 25:25Speaker 3: Yes, yes, this one's from Michael Cameron Dando. You've said
- 25:28Speaker 3: you have a big LP collection that focuses on scores.
- 25:31Speaker 3: What are some of your favorite movie or TV scores?
- 25:33Speaker 3: Mine is Halloween. I just think it immediately sets the
- 25:35Speaker 3: tone for the film and even the whole vibe of
- 25:37Speaker 3: the Halloween season. He's not wrong, Michael Cameron. Isn't that correct? Yeah, well,
- 25:42Speaker 3: said Michael. ET is a big one for me. I've
- 25:46Speaker 3: always loved ET. I'll never forget. I've said this in
- 25:48Speaker 3: the podcast. I'm sure when I got the fortieth it
- 25:52Speaker 3: would have been fourtieth anniversary. Yeah, twenty foot and I
- 25:55Speaker 3: think it was me thirtieth anniversary LP. My mum purchased
- 25:58Speaker 3: for me of ET, and it had I've never heard
- 26:01Speaker 3: it before, the score of scenes that have been deleted. Ah,
- 26:05Speaker 3: And I remember putting it. I've listened to that score
- 26:06Speaker 3: from begin to finish so many times. And this newby
- 26:08Speaker 3: came and I went, wait a minute, what is this
- 26:11Speaker 3: unfamiliar sound?
- 26:11Speaker 1: And I got it out.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I was like, oh my god, it's a deleted scene.
- 26:14Speaker 3: I've never heard the score for it, and it was
- 26:15Speaker 3: like discovering gold for me. You know, it was so important.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Star Wars was the big one. Couga Pas stars the
- 26:21Speaker 3: we say a new Hope. I mean Star Wars the
- 26:23Speaker 3: first one. I can hear the entire score in my head,
- 26:26Speaker 3: just you know, the jar was seeing that. I've got
- 26:29Speaker 3: the classic canteen about bar music. Yeah, but I just
- 26:33Speaker 3: think the opening crawl and I can visualize in my head.
- 26:37Speaker 3: I listened to it so many times and watched it
- 26:39Speaker 3: when the Imperial Starstars going over, I can. It's like
- 26:42Speaker 3: something John Williams. I mean, I mean in particular Hero. Yes,
- 26:46Speaker 3: what are some non John Williams scores that you love?
- 26:48Speaker 1: Though? Terminator? I love Terminator's great. It's a guy called
- 26:53Speaker 1: Michael Gaccino like a lot he's he did stuff that
- 26:57Speaker 1: The Incredibles, Cloverfield. I don't think I've got the clover
- 27:02Speaker 1: Field one. Pretty sure did clover Field the movie John
- 27:05Speaker 1: Carter is a notorious flop. I really quite like it.
- 27:08Speaker 1: And it's got fantastic music. Yeah. So, and Giaquino did that.
- 27:11Speaker 1: He does some stuff for the mission in one of
- 27:13Speaker 1: the at least one of the mission in Possible Movies.
- 27:15Speaker 3: I've always really loved Alan Savestrie's score for Mac and Me.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, I can't say I know any of it.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Again, it's just one of those scores we touched on
- 27:23Speaker 3: up recently. We're talking about Free Willie. Now you hear
- 27:26Speaker 3: that score and takes you back to being a kid. Yeah,
- 27:28Speaker 3: I hadn't heard. I didn't watched the movie for twenty
- 27:30Speaker 3: five years, and that music came and I went, oh wow.
- 27:33Speaker 3: I used to listen to this music every day when
- 27:34Speaker 3: I watched the movie.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean John Williams kind of the Bell
- 27:38Speaker 1: and end All, although Hans Zimmer it's come to be
- 27:40Speaker 1: the modern equivalent of that. There's a guy I like
- 27:42Speaker 1: named John Powell. He did the music for the Bourne
- 27:44Speaker 1: movies and also for my beloved How to Train Your Dragon,
- 27:48Speaker 1: which has got some of the greatest music. Howard Sure's
- 27:50Speaker 1: music that the Lord of the Rings trilogy is fantastic.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Did he do seven? I believe so. Yeah. Yeah, Award
- 27:57Speaker 1: Shaw was a pretty interesting cat. He's had a long
- 27:59Speaker 1: and very career. Now, I made the mistake with this before,
- 28:01Speaker 1: so I don't want to get it wrong again. We
- 28:03Speaker 1: might have to reach and get that copy of Deep Rising,
- 28:05Speaker 1: because I think Alan Silvestri did the soundtrack for a look,
- 28:07Speaker 1: shall we it's either him or Jerry Goldsmith like it.
- 28:11Speaker 1: We've got it here on VHS. This is Jerry Goldsmith,
- 28:15Speaker 1: he did Gremlins. Yeah, I need total recall Jerry, the Gremlins.
- 28:22Speaker 3: The Gremlins theme. It's spooky but it's fun. Oh yeah,
- 28:26Speaker 3: it perfectly encapsulates what Gremlins is. Yeah, it's a horror movie,
- 28:29Speaker 3: but it's not a gory horror movie. It's a spooky,
- 28:32Speaker 3: wacky it's like insanity, it's lutitudes, it's like a side show. Yeah,
- 28:36Speaker 3: it's like you've gone, yeah, gone to the circus and
- 28:38Speaker 3: the Gremlins have taken over the circuit. Deep Rising, folks,
- 28:41Speaker 3: We're going to probably do it on the movie Guard
- 28:42Speaker 3: one of these days. But Jerry Goldsmith is one of
- 28:45Speaker 3: those movies that I never knew existed, and do I
- 28:46Speaker 3: told me about it, and I'm so glad it did.
- 28:48Speaker 1: And now he's got it on load for such a
- 28:51Speaker 1: good movie. Though. Yeah, it's a look at that back cover.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Whoever made the back cover there did a terrible job.
- 28:56Speaker 1: It looks blurry background, it looks like they've stretched it
- 28:59Speaker 1: too far. I know, I don't think would I pick
- 29:02Speaker 1: this up and go as a kid and go, I
- 29:04Speaker 1: want to watch this full scream ahead. I'm getting it
- 29:06Speaker 1: because it says full ahead. So yeah, there's some of
- 29:09Speaker 1: my guys.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Absolutely yes, all right, next one here greeting's friends aka
- 29:14Speaker 3: Dando and Guy or Guy and Dando. My name is Tamara.
- 29:18Speaker 3: I'm nineteen and love your podcast. I actually discovered you
- 29:21Speaker 3: through TV launch pod of all Things Wow, when you
- 29:23Speaker 3: review the pilot of Buffy. Simpsons is my favorite show
- 29:26Speaker 3: of all time, and I was so excited to discover
- 29:27Speaker 3: a podcast about it that had so many episodes already
- 29:29Speaker 3: recorded and was actually good.
- 29:33Speaker 1: It's not to be known as actually good.
- 29:34Speaker 3: I'm currently a bartender in Melbourne as I studied criminology. Wow,
- 29:38Speaker 3: And the other day I was watching Flaming Mo's and
- 29:40Speaker 3: wonder what it would be like to work at Mo's.
- 29:42Speaker 3: So my question is, if you lived in Springfield, where
- 29:44Speaker 3: would you like to.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Work and why? I'd be an Android's Dungeon Guy.
- 29:48Speaker 3: I thought the same thing, but then I thought about
- 29:50Speaker 3: Androids Dungeon and I thought, is Androids Dungeon the waight?
- 29:53Speaker 3: It represents comic book store culture. Is it dated now
- 29:58Speaker 3: in twenty twenty six, If it's this, if these comic
- 30:00Speaker 3: book guys the same way, I feel like comic book
- 30:02Speaker 3: stores now are more of a welcoming community, one would hope.
- 30:05Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, it felt like when when he was
- 30:08Speaker 3: first introduced to the show, it was that it was like,
- 30:10Speaker 3: this is my word, your dweebs, your nerves, get away
- 30:13Speaker 3: from me. Well I know more than you. But now
- 30:15Speaker 3: it's like, hey, come on, guys, let's all share. Let's
- 30:17Speaker 3: all share the love of our fandoms.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Well that's the thing. I mean, early episode of The
- 30:21Speaker 1: Simpsons are very other pre Internet, of course. So the
- 30:24Speaker 1: kind of person who was the repository of all knowledge
- 30:27Speaker 1: about pop culture was kind of like, oh, it's like
- 30:29Speaker 1: going to se Yoda. Yeah that's right.
- 30:31Speaker 3: Yeah and yeah, And they had not necessarily the right,
- 30:35Speaker 3: but they had they'd earned some kind of a wealth
- 30:39Speaker 3: of useless knowledge, yes, and the right to.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Sort of laud it over you a little bit like that.
- 30:44Speaker 1: But you know, now we can access information a lot
- 30:46Speaker 1: and we've all found our various tribes and everything like that.
- 30:49Speaker 1: So yeah, there is a lot less gatekeeping, for better
- 30:52Speaker 1: and for worse.
- 30:54Speaker 3: But Andrew started to just feels like a fun place
- 30:56Speaker 3: to work. I mean, I think as a kid, I
- 30:58Speaker 3: would have loved to have worked in a bookstore.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Oh god, yeah, I mean one of my one of
- 31:02Speaker 1: my dreams was always to have like a bookstore, videoto bookstore.
- 31:04Speaker 1: You said, this audio bookstore? Yeah, where else can we work? Though?
- 31:07Speaker 1: In Springfield some way?
- 31:09Speaker 3: That's fun? I don't obviously not going to say most,
- 31:10Speaker 3: because that's what what Tomara has said.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Yeah, power Plan. I wouldn't want to work at the
- 31:14Speaker 1: power plant. That's not fun at all. Maybe the az
- 31:17Speaker 1: Tech Theater, and I was possibly Costington's. I would have
- 31:20Speaker 1: mind working at Costington.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Yes, I've always liked the idea of working at a cinema.
- 31:26Speaker 1: I never did. No, I never did either.
- 31:28Speaker 3: And you look at the kids now, they look kind
- 31:29Speaker 3: of miserable. Yeah, well there's but the cinemas in the
- 31:32Speaker 3: nineties eighties would have been more pumped.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Well, there was more stuff to do as well. I mean,
- 31:37Speaker 1: it seems like with every decade the passes, more and
- 31:39Speaker 1: more responsibility has been taken away in terms of like
- 31:42Speaker 1: I mean, it used to me that they would show
- 31:44Speaker 1: you to your seat, you know, you'd get a paper
- 31:46Speaker 1: ticket like we'll rip that, and was like, okay, well
- 31:48Speaker 1: you'll you can sit here if you like.
- 31:50Speaker 3: They're doing gold class, but that's it. Yeah, I don't
- 31:52Speaker 3: even doing gold class to get in there. So when
- 31:56Speaker 3: do you want your food? Hurry up there.
- 31:59Speaker 1: I'm trying to think where else one could work at Springfield.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Somewhere that's fun. You would at the school, would you
- 32:05Speaker 1: hear like a substitute teacher or something. Maybe we'll be
- 32:07Speaker 1: the quickie mart No, that'd be no. You get hald
- 32:10Speaker 1: up by snake all the time. I don't have to
- 32:13Speaker 1: deal with like the kids or Homer. Yes, all right,
- 32:16Speaker 1: but then thank you for the question. Tomorrow. Yeah, I'm
- 32:18Speaker 1: looking good luck with the criminology studies, yeah, and working
- 32:21Speaker 1: out a bar. And but thank you for your very
- 32:23Speaker 1: nice note. We really appreciated that.
- 32:24Speaker 3: She says, thanks again for the hours of entertainment. It's
- 32:26Speaker 3: always relaxing and listening to you both after a night
- 32:28Speaker 3: of hearing loud music and drunken ramblings. I promised to
- 32:31Speaker 3: become a patron before the end of the year.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Tomorrow. That's dope. Thank you. Hi Dan and guy.
- 32:36Speaker 3: My name is Lance Morris and I live in Ohio
- 32:39Speaker 3: in the USA. I've been listening to the show for
- 32:40Speaker 3: close to ten years at this point. I believe I
- 32:42Speaker 3: discovered the show around three or season three or four,
- 32:44Speaker 3: back when Mitch was doing it. I don't think I
- 32:47Speaker 3: really have a question in this email, but something today
- 32:49Speaker 3: compelled me to write in. I'm typing this as I've
- 32:51Speaker 3: rewatched Last Days at the Springfield for the fiftieth time.
- 32:54Speaker 3: I have one tattoo, and it's the Home in the
- 32:55Speaker 3: Bush's scene that has since become a meme.
- 32:58Speaker 1: How annoying must that be?
- 32:59Speaker 3: Because I feel like the Homer and the Bush's meme
- 33:01Speaker 3: has become so watered down now it's the most merchandise
- 33:03Speaker 3: moment of The Simpsons. When he got it, it was like, Yeah,
- 33:06Speaker 3: it's a cool work for the Simpsons. This is my
- 33:08Speaker 3: secret handshake, Like everyone's wearing a Home in the Bush's
- 33:10Speaker 3: t show.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Sorry about that, Lance, but I bet you're enjoying it. Yeah.
- 33:15Speaker 3: I made sure to watch Her at the Bat before
- 33:16Speaker 3: my wedding last year. I quote the show seemingly daily
- 33:19Speaker 3: without even trying to. I'm also a big fan of
- 33:21Speaker 3: South Park, along with Seiinfeld and friend who I've listened
- 33:23Speaker 3: to as much of those shows that you do as possible.
- 33:26Speaker 3: Just wanted to say thanks for doing what you guys
- 33:27Speaker 3: doing for the countless hours I've spent listening to the show.
- 33:29Speaker 3: I'd say something funny to end this email, but higoons are.
- 33:32Speaker 1: At my door. Lance, you just said something funny at
- 33:34Speaker 1: the end. Yes, well, I've got a cool bait and switch.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Well done. You good reference Yeah, man, Hi good.
- 33:39Speaker 3: Speaking of Last Eggs at Springfold, I hope you guys
- 33:41Speaker 3: enjoyed our chat with Jay Cogan exactly just last eegit
- 33:44Speaker 3: at Springford, just about his career in general. I thought
- 33:46Speaker 3: it was a really fun conversation. We enjoyed the chat absolutely,
- 33:49Speaker 3: and he seemed.
- 33:49Speaker 1: To as well.
- 33:50Speaker 3: It seemed he went into the show with expectations of
- 33:52Speaker 3: that we're going to be Dix. He's like, you know what,
- 33:53Speaker 3: you guys, He isn't so bad another but bad things.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Represented and Lance congratulates on your recent marriage.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Yes, dear guy Andando, I've not long listened to the
- 34:05Speaker 3: podcast on the curling episode and have a little story
- 34:07Speaker 3: for you regarding Australian curling that I think you might enjoy.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Will be the judges of that, but go ahead.
- 34:13Speaker 3: I'm the feature writer for World curling, and last year
- 34:16Speaker 3: I interviewed the skip, the captain of the Australian women's team,
- 34:20Speaker 3: Helen Williams. When we were talking, it turns out that
- 34:23Speaker 3: she'd lived two flats away from me in Glasgow when
- 34:25Speaker 3: she was a student. Helen was a Scottish junior curler
- 34:29Speaker 3: who played alongside the future Olympic gold medalist ronup Martin.
- 34:33Speaker 3: But after injuring herself when trying to impress some boys
- 34:35Speaker 3: on holiday, what you reckon?
- 34:37Speaker 1: She did?
- 34:37Speaker 3: What do you can run to do to injure yourself?
- 34:39Speaker 3: Jumping off a cliff face?
- 34:40Speaker 1: Oh? What was it? Curling? Related to trying to brushing
- 34:44Speaker 1: like crazy, trying to do like a headstand and on
- 34:46Speaker 1: the bar, on the on the on the bar itself.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Oh you're a pro sportsman, do something athletic. I'm curly. No, no, no,
- 34:54Speaker 1: you respect to curlers. Yeah. It was probably something like
- 34:57Speaker 1: handstand on the bar or something new. Do you run
- 35:00Speaker 1: abe sip Dave on banana peel. Anyway, she heard herself
- 35:03Speaker 1: trying to impress some boys in holiday, she was out
- 35:05Speaker 1: for a while and decided to go traveling. She went
- 35:07Speaker 1: to Australia and never left. Sorry, I'm misrepresented that. I
- 35:10Speaker 1: think it was a Helen. It wasn't Rona who injured Sevel,
- 35:13Speaker 1: was Helen. It was Helen. Yes, Okay.
- 35:15Speaker 3: Years later she would be approached by someone who wanted
- 35:17Speaker 3: to get Australian curling moving and heard she was great
- 35:20Speaker 3: at curling back home in Scotland. She was an important
- 35:24Speaker 3: part in the continuation of Australian curling and the country's
- 35:27Speaker 3: eventual debut at the Olympic Games in the mixed doubles
- 35:30Speaker 3: in twenty twenty two. So if a lassie hadn't injured
- 35:32Speaker 3: herself on holiday, Australia's curling scene wouldn't maybe not be
- 35:35Speaker 3: as good as it is now. She's for the years
- 35:37Speaker 3: of entertainment. Mick from Glasgow, Mick, thank you for that story.
- 35:40Speaker 3: A brief history on curling of Australia. Australian curling at
- 35:44Speaker 3: that wow.
- 35:44Speaker 1: I mean you thought it was just you know, the
- 35:46Speaker 1: province of the Canadians, but no, no, we're doing it
- 35:48Speaker 1: down Under. So if you want to make it in
- 35:49Speaker 1: the Olympics, try to impress some boys on holiday, get injured,
- 35:52Speaker 1: move somewhere else. That's You've got to be your origin story,
- 35:55Speaker 1: got to be your superhero origin story. I really want
- 35:57Speaker 1: to know what Helen did to impress the boys Justine
- 36:00Speaker 1: to get in touch and imagine the boy she was
- 36:01Speaker 1: trying to press absolute dickheads too. Oh yeah, and the
- 36:07Speaker 1: final one here, Hi, guys, love listening to you guys
- 36:09Speaker 1: on the way to work or in the gym. Keep
- 36:10Speaker 1: up the great work. Here's my question.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Have you found a new love for a series that
- 36:15Speaker 3: you now do a podcast on or later episodes of
- 36:18Speaker 3: The Simpsons. I think I've found a new love for
- 36:20Speaker 3: South Park from doing that on the South Park because
- 36:22Speaker 3: I only really watched the first couple of seasons, and
- 36:25Speaker 3: now i'd watch it now and then, like when a
- 36:28Speaker 3: big one like the Warcraft one coming old, the Michael
- 36:30Speaker 3: Jackson one when it was big news, I would watch
- 36:32Speaker 3: those ones, but I wasn't watching it week to week,
- 36:34Speaker 3: And I think going back and reviewing these episodes, I've
- 36:36Speaker 3: realized it's just nice watching the show. Just the show evolved,
- 36:40Speaker 3: but Parker and Stone evolve as mature.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Yeah, as storytellers and makers of art. Absolutely yeah. Yeah.
- 36:47Speaker 1: For mine, I would say King of the Hill in
- 36:48Speaker 1: all honesty, yeah, and never a huge King of the
- 36:52Speaker 1: Hill fan back in the day, but really watching it, Yeah,
- 36:55Speaker 1: rewatching it for these for these episodes that we're doing,
- 36:57Speaker 1: It's like, God, this is so well put together, really
- 37:00Speaker 1: really funny in a dry sort of way, but a
- 37:02Speaker 1: way that I really respond to, and it's just so enjoyable.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Do you think you have to be older to enjoy
- 37:09Speaker 1: kicking this? I reckon so yeah, Yeah, I honestly think so. Yeah.
- 37:13Speaker 3: I don't think anyone under the age of twenty is
- 37:14Speaker 3: really enjoying King of the Hill to the level. I
- 37:16Speaker 3: think you have to have experienced Bobby's life and a
- 37:19Speaker 3: bit of Hank's life as well. It's a bitter like that, Yeah,
- 37:22Speaker 3: because Hank is not You can't really compare Hank and Homer.
- 37:26Speaker 3: Oh no, because Homer is funny because he's just a
- 37:28Speaker 3: blithering fool, where Hank's it's more Hank's perspectives.
- 37:31Speaker 1: It's just put off the world. Yeah, trying to keep
- 37:34Speaker 1: pace with the modern world. Absolutely.
- 37:35Speaker 3: But I've definitely definitely later episodes of the season of
- 37:38Speaker 3: The Simpsons that I've discovered, well, I think that.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Surprised us as well, because you know, we're over mind.
- 37:44Speaker 1: It's all going to go downhill from here. There's gonna
- 37:46Speaker 1: be no good episodes, like well, even if they even
- 37:49Speaker 1: the whole episode of say season twenty one or a
- 37:51Speaker 1: season twenty episode is not cent of my liking, there's
- 37:54Speaker 1: still bits and pieces in here. How many times have
- 37:56Speaker 1: we said, oh, that wouldn't be out of place in
- 37:58Speaker 1: a Golden Age episode. What we'd like to do is
- 38:01Speaker 1: we take what they made and we create an episode
- 38:04Speaker 1: of our minds of what it should have been.
- 38:05Speaker 3: We fixed it, We fix things, and we go see
- 38:07Speaker 3: it was a good season.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Yeah, so unlike that Wikipedia entry, we don't think everything
- 38:12Speaker 1: is unrecking believable.
- 38:14Speaker 3: I'm like, we need to kind of fix that. We
- 38:15Speaker 3: come across like such the shittiest episode, we got to
- 38:23Speaker 3: change that. Al Jesus watching that or reading that, going
- 38:27Speaker 3: never gone to that show.
- 38:28Speaker 1: I shouldn't have spoken to those guys. I thought austreams
- 38:31Speaker 1: were cool.
- 38:31Speaker 3: Yes, but one of the things that we touched on
- 38:34Speaker 3: with our gene it's gone viral and we were the
- 38:36Speaker 3: ones that sort of like got the scoop, and Al
- 38:38Speaker 3: Jean gave us the scoop was the revival of the critic.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Oh yeah, they've been talks about it, but he pretty
- 38:43Speaker 3: much said, I'm happy to say publicly. Now it's probably
- 38:46Speaker 3: going to happen. Cool, I'm excited for that. Have you
- 38:49Speaker 3: revisited the critic at all?
- 38:50Speaker 1: I have not.
- 38:51Speaker 3: No, I'm going to give you the DVDs these just
- 38:53Speaker 3: down on them whatever. But I rewatched the first three
- 38:57Speaker 3: episodes and d the other night. I think it is
- 38:59Speaker 3: a show that you would adore. Okay, Cool, it's Family
- 39:02Speaker 3: Guy before Family Guy, but it's much more reserved than
- 39:06Speaker 3: Family Guy. It's not stupidity cutaways.
- 39:08Speaker 1: It's what it is.
- 39:09Speaker 3: It's movie cutaways. Oh no, but it's parodies so like
- 39:12Speaker 3: it's it's like there's a parody of like Alien and
- 39:16Speaker 3: swartz Andegger. In the first episode, it's because he's talking
- 39:18Speaker 3: about a film, and then it's cutaways to like a
- 39:21Speaker 3: parody of a certain film that he's talking about. It's
- 39:22Speaker 3: I think you would absolutely love to create it. I
- 39:24Speaker 3: think that should be one of those shows that we
- 39:25Speaker 3: do as a Patreon exclusive.
- 39:27Speaker 1: It's not a bad idea. All right, Well, giveing them
- 39:29Speaker 1: DVDs and yeah, we'll start putting together some.
- 39:32Speaker 3: Ap or throw it out to the patrins votes. So
- 39:34Speaker 3: we've got one more month of Speaking of the Hill.
- 39:36Speaker 3: Each month we do on our Patren. For those aren't
- 39:38Speaker 3: supporters on Patreon yet, what are you doing?
- 39:39Speaker 1: Make sure you do it.
- 39:40Speaker 3: But we do Tales of the Future Rumma each month
- 39:42Speaker 3: and then a show selected by our supporters. And at
- 39:46Speaker 3: the moment it is Speaking of the Hill. It was
- 39:48Speaker 3: talking soe Fel for a while, but people people have
- 39:50Speaker 3: voted speak of the Hill. It could be Bob's Pods
- 39:54Speaker 3: is always there, so I see that at the moment
- 39:57Speaker 3: here're talking Seinfeld, Bob's Pods or at the Hill.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Correct. I think we should throw a critic one in
- 40:01Speaker 1: there as well. I think I honestly, I watched it
- 40:03Speaker 1: going guy would love this. How are we surprised if
- 40:06Speaker 1: you don't? All right, well, let's do that. Yes, let's
- 40:07Speaker 1: do that. Indeed, But I guys, have you enjoyed this
- 40:10Speaker 1: mailbag episode of four Finger Discount.
- 40:12Speaker 3: Don't forget you can't get in touch with us. It
- 40:14Speaker 3: is mailbag at four finger discount dot com, dot a you.
- 40:17Speaker 3: We'd love to hear from each and every single one
- 40:19Speaker 3: of you. As Lance wrote in, you don't have to
- 40:21Speaker 3: be a question, just be a message. Appreciate the show.
- 40:23Speaker 1: I'm go to keep a little boost. Or you could
- 40:26Speaker 1: be like tomorrow and say hey, I'm going to be
- 40:27Speaker 1: a patron by the end of it.
- 40:28Speaker 3: We're holding you to it, yes indeed, but yeah, also,
- 40:31Speaker 3: please continue to rate and review us, whether it be
- 40:34Speaker 3: Apple Podcasts or Spotify. We want to try and get
- 40:36Speaker 3: those five star reviews up. We've listened to the show
- 40:38Speaker 3: and having given us a five star review. It takes
- 40:41Speaker 3: like five seconds. Just open up to your phone, hit
- 40:43Speaker 3: the stars five stars.
- 40:44Speaker 1: We're done.
- 40:45Speaker 3: But if you do have time, livers a few kind
- 40:46Speaker 3: words as well. We do read all the reviews and
- 40:48Speaker 3: they are much appreciated. But for now, is Davis any
- 40:51Speaker 3: final words for those incredible listeners out there.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Wherever put that Wikipedia thing up, please take it down.
- 40:57Speaker 2: S
