- 0:34Speaker 2: Seven years of Hurdle cusping ten million downloads and we
- 0:39Speaker 2: are breaking in the new year with my favorite annual
- 0:43Speaker 2: series called Turning the Page.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Now.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I'm sure there are some veteran hurdlers listening. I know
- 0:51Speaker 2: there are some new hurdlers listening. That's what I call
- 0:54Speaker 2: my listeners. And so a little recap on A what
- 0:58Speaker 2: the pod is and b turning the pages the pod
- 1:02Speaker 2: a while. On this focus podcast, I talk to inspirational
- 1:05Speaker 2: people about everything on it, from their highest highs and
- 1:08Speaker 2: toughest moments to essential tips on how to live a healthier, happier,
- 1:13Speaker 2: more motivated life. One thing is for certain. We all
- 1:17Speaker 2: go through our fair share of hurdle moments, and my
- 1:20Speaker 2: goal through these discussions is to empower you to better
- 1:24Speaker 2: navigate yours, to move with intention so that you can
- 1:27Speaker 2: stride towards your own big potential and of course have
- 1:31Speaker 2: some fun along the way. Now, when it comes to
- 1:36Speaker 2: the annual Turning the Page series. This is me catching
- 1:39Speaker 2: up with some of my favorite humans to talk about
- 1:43Speaker 2: what went well for them in the past three sixty five,
- 1:46Speaker 2: what they're looking forward to in the next three sixty five,
- 1:50Speaker 2: what they're going to stop, start and keep doing in
- 1:53Speaker 2: the new year, and really gathering some best practice advice
- 1:58Speaker 2: from these outstanding women to help you jumpstart your best
- 2:04Speaker 2: year yet. Now, of course I had to kick things
- 2:07Speaker 2: off with v One, the only Robin our Son. You
- 2:12Speaker 2: know her as the vice president of fitness Programming over
- 2:15Speaker 2: at Peloton. She's also a New York Times best selling author,
- 2:20Speaker 2: a mama to two beautiful kiddos, and the chief of
- 2:24Speaker 2: Superior Starts over at Joo Formulas. Now, if there's one
- 2:29Speaker 2: thing we know about Robin is that you cannot walk
- 2:32Speaker 2: away from a conversation with her without feeling empowered to
- 2:36Speaker 2: really go after your big goals. And this conversation is
- 2:41Speaker 2: absolutely no exception. I love her vulnerability in today's episode,
- 2:45Speaker 2: talking about what's working for her, opening up about what's not,
- 2:49Speaker 2: Her excitement about her upcoming cookbook is contagious. Just so
- 2:53Speaker 2: much goodness in this conversation. This series, wouldn't it be
- 2:57Speaker 2: possible without my sponsor at A six. You'll hear a
- 3:00Speaker 2: little bit about them shortly, but I do want to
- 3:02Speaker 2: say thank you so much to them for supporting me,
- 3:05Speaker 2: and to all of you. Seven years of podcasting. It
- 3:09Speaker 2: feels like I started just yesterday. It's been a good time.
- 3:12Speaker 2: It's been a long time, and I'm not stopping any
- 3:15Speaker 2: time soon. So thank you from the bottom of my heart.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Make sure you're following along with Hurdle over on social
- 3:21Speaker 2: It's at Hurdle Podcast. I am over at Emily Abanni

- 3:31Speaker 2: The link to subscribe is in the show notes. With that,
- 3:35Speaker 2: let's get to it. Let's get to hurdling.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Today.
- 3:42Speaker 2: I am sitting down with my dear friend Robin Arson.
- 3:46Speaker 2: She's the VP of fitness Programming over at Peloton. She's
- 3:49Speaker 2: also the chief of Superior Starts for Gerro Formulas, a
- 3:53Speaker 2: twenty seven time marathonor Yeah.
- 3:56Speaker 3: She's got a lot going on.
- 3:57Speaker 2: How you doing, Robin, Hi, good to see you, Go
- 4:00Speaker 2: to see you too. I'm so happy to have you
- 4:02Speaker 2: back here. I am so elated to be catching up
- 4:05Speaker 2: with you at this festive but busy for both of
- 4:09Speaker 2: us time of year. How are you feeling right now
- 4:12Speaker 2: heading into twenty twenty five?
- 4:14Speaker 4: I am, I am hopeful, I am excited, but I'm
- 4:18Speaker 4: also you know, my theme going into twenty twenty five
- 4:22Speaker 4: is ease and softness.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I've got some intense goals.
- 4:26Speaker 4: I've got some races coming up, so I know I'm
- 4:29Speaker 4: going to get the badass element, but what I need
- 4:32Speaker 4: to plan for is actually the ease.
- 4:34Speaker 1: So I'm trying. We'll see talk to me in a
- 4:37Speaker 1: year and we'll see how it went.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Are you open to talking a little bit about what
- 4:41Speaker 2: some of these goals are?
- 4:43Speaker 4: Yeah, and you know the ones that aren't. The goals
- 4:46Speaker 4: that get tricky for me are the ones that aren't
- 4:48Speaker 4: necessarily measurable. Right, Like, you give me a plan, and
- 4:52Speaker 4: I know you're the same way. Give me a plan,
- 4:53Speaker 4: give me a split, give me I will execute it
- 4:56Speaker 4: till to.
- 4:59Speaker 1: My darnest. The stuff that's a little bit more like
- 5:04Speaker 1: murky or is tough.
- 5:07Speaker 4: So for me, it's going to look like putting down
- 5:12Speaker 4: my phone when I'm not actively intentionally using it. Obviously,
- 5:16Speaker 4: that's heart easier said than done, but in that replacing
- 5:20Speaker 4: it with things like immediately picking up my book that
- 5:24Speaker 4: I'm reading for pleasure, not like a nonfiction book that
- 5:27Speaker 4: I then want to create into like an interview topic
- 5:31Speaker 4: or you.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Know what I mean that.
- 5:34Speaker 4: So one way that I've done this is kind of
- 5:36Speaker 4: find like different fantasy series and like sci fi series
- 5:39Speaker 4: that I'm excited about reading in twenty twenty five. And
- 5:43Speaker 4: then the second is I've gotten better at this, but
- 5:46Speaker 4: I could be even better. Is taking my recovery days
- 5:50Speaker 4: with the freedom that it's supposed to entail. And that's
- 5:55Speaker 4: going to be you know, hopefully that'll look like Sunday's
- 5:57Speaker 4: for me because I don't teach, but yeah, it's so
- 6:00Speaker 4: it's a work in progress. So it's gonna be taking
- 6:01Speaker 4: recovery even more seriously and then trying to deliberate myself
- 6:06Speaker 4: from my phone in like eat little five to ten
- 6:08Speaker 4: minute chunks and just like get back into my book
- 6:11Speaker 4: because I tell myself, I know I've embraced shorter workouts.
- 6:14Speaker 4: I know that I can reclaim five to ten minute
- 6:17Speaker 4: blocks of time and do more with movement. So I'm
- 6:21Speaker 4: trying to apply that same practice with ease and with
- 6:25Speaker 4: like my for me reading it becomes pleasurable, right, So
- 6:30Speaker 4: that's my plan.
- 6:31Speaker 3: That's the plan. That's the plan.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Do you have a name of a fantasy series that
- 6:34Speaker 2: we should drop for the hurdlers.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Well, listen, I'm late to the game on this one,
- 6:38Speaker 4: but I started a Katar so I'm in the first
- 6:41Speaker 4: a guitar book, so I've got few to go. And
- 6:44Speaker 4: then I mean, I'm I'm also a fourth wing girly,
- 6:47Speaker 4: like give me a dragon, and I'm pretty much in.
- 6:52Speaker 3: I love it. I love it.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I'm not personally a fantasy girly, but I have respect
- 6:56Speaker 2: and appreciation because I think like ninety five percent of
- 6:59Speaker 2: the women that I know, oh are.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Yeah, it's fun. I like getting lost in worlds.
- 7:04Speaker 4: I'm totally down for a ya like I don't need
- 7:07Speaker 4: it to be toll story.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Like I'm good, I gotcha, I got you.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Well, I'm excited that we're already talking about what you
- 7:13Speaker 2: have on tap for twenty twenty five. But before we
- 7:16Speaker 2: really dive in there, I want to talk about twenty
- 7:18Speaker 2: twenty four and about where you're at now. So how
- 7:21Speaker 2: are you doing, really, Robin, I'm really you know, I'm.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Doing pretty well. Like I think it's chaotic.
- 7:29Speaker 4: You know, you mentioned this is I think for a
- 7:32Speaker 4: lot of hustlers, like this is a big time of year.
- 7:35Speaker 4: I'm raising two young kids. I feel really strong in
- 7:38Speaker 4: my body. I have a great relationship, like as chaotic
- 7:42Speaker 4: as it is, and it often is in my house
- 7:44Speaker 4: and especially in the mornings and at night, like all
- 7:46Speaker 4: parents know, like getting kids out of the house and
- 7:48Speaker 4: bedtime seem to be just oh my gosh, what do
- 7:52Speaker 4: we sign up for? But I think I'm going to
- 7:55Speaker 4: look back at this season of my life and think, gosh,
- 7:57Speaker 4: those were the days.
- 7:58Speaker 1: So I'm trying not to fast forward through those moments,
- 8:01Speaker 1: you know.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Yeah, understandable, and like you said, so much going on.
- 8:05Speaker 2: So good on you to be able to come back
- 8:07Speaker 2: to this gratitude and be really present with what you
- 8:10Speaker 2: have and all the good things that are around you.
- 8:13Speaker 1: That's the goal.
- 8:14Speaker 4: It doesn't and you know, listen, like when I'm in
- 8:16Speaker 4: the middle of a storm, I'm not necessarily that zen master,
- 8:20Speaker 4: but thankfully, you know, we've got practices and tools that
- 8:23Speaker 4: kind of bring us back.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and you've certainly done a ton in twenty twenty four.
- 8:29Speaker 2: I mean, you started contributing to GMA this year, which
- 8:32Speaker 2: is super fun.
- 8:33Speaker 3: How has that been going for you?
- 8:34Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I love it. I mean, Robin Roberts
- 8:37Speaker 1: is just my queen.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Anything I can learn from her is deeply humbling and
- 8:43Speaker 4: I love it.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I seeing that kind.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Of production obviously, as a as a storyteller, it's you
- 8:49Speaker 4: can't get better than that.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I mean, it is morning TV.
- 8:51Speaker 4: They've been in this game for decades, but seeing all
- 8:54Speaker 4: the moving pieces behind the scenes as a creator is
- 8:57Speaker 4: really has been a privilege to be a part of.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Beyond adding that to the resume, talk to me about
- 9:03Speaker 2: other highlights from twenty twenty four.
- 9:05Speaker 4: For you, partnering with Jara Formulas was great, like being
- 9:08Speaker 4: I never thought I would have a C suite title
- 9:10Speaker 4: as Chief of Superior Starts, which is all about goal
- 9:14Speaker 4: setting and partnering, you know, with a supplement brand that's
- 9:17Speaker 4: been in the game for forty seven years, So that
- 9:20Speaker 4: was really exciting. You know. I think for me, the
- 9:22Speaker 4: way I approach supplements is, you know, I believe in
- 9:25Speaker 4: like whole food, food and fueling intentionally, but sometimes you
- 9:30Speaker 4: need a supplement game to keep you optimized, and that's
- 9:34Speaker 4: certainly been what this partnership has looked like for me.
- 9:38Speaker 4: And what else am I excited about? Oh, working on
- 9:41Speaker 4: a cookbook and working at a plant based cookbook that
- 9:44Speaker 4: will be out in twenty twenty six, So that's really
- 9:46Speaker 4: that's a twenty twenty five project for real, for real,
- 9:49Speaker 4: that's going to be like the line's share of my
- 9:51Speaker 4: year getting ready for that and trying to explore different
- 9:53Speaker 4: elements of play, Like it's interesting when you have released
- 9:57Speaker 4: projects and books and have had partnership. The natural question
- 10:02Speaker 4: from folks is like, Okay, what's next? And I'm trying
- 10:05Speaker 4: to meet myself where I am as much as possible,
- 10:09Speaker 4: which isn't necessarily like an exciting, interesting answer, but it
- 10:13Speaker 4: is where my headspace is at.
- 10:14Speaker 2: But it's a real answer. And I think that it's
- 10:17Speaker 2: also very beautiful to hear someone who has done so
- 10:21Speaker 2: many fun things in their career, things that many people
- 10:25Speaker 2: aspire to do, being very vulnerable about Hey, I'm going
- 10:29Speaker 2: to play a little bit and I'm going to figure
- 10:30Speaker 2: it out. I don't have all of my ducks in
- 10:32Speaker 2: a row in this very moment, but there are things
- 10:35Speaker 2: that I'm looking forward to, and there's even more that's
- 10:37Speaker 2: going to happen that I don't know exactly what that
- 10:39Speaker 2: is yet.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's it, girl, that's it.
- 10:43Speaker 3: That's it.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Well, you said that part of this title with Jarrow
- 10:46Speaker 2: is about goal setting, and I know at the turn
- 10:49Speaker 2: of the year a lot of people are thinking about
- 10:52Speaker 2: what it is that they want to accomplish in twenty
- 10:55Speaker 2: twenty five. For someone that is approaching goal setting and
- 10:58Speaker 2: feeling a little over whelmed, what do you tell them?
- 11:02Speaker 4: Oh, start small, like ridiculously small. I use the analogy
- 11:06Speaker 4: of the kid on the monkey bars. Like, you know,
- 11:09Speaker 4: study show that in goal setting you want to take
- 11:12Speaker 4: yourself like four to five, four to seven percent out
- 11:15Speaker 4: of your comfort zone. And that's like a weird percentage,
- 11:18Speaker 4: but you kind of can picture it if you're looking
- 11:20Speaker 4: at a kid on the monkey bars, like there's you're
- 11:23Speaker 4: out stretching your hand like a little bit in front
- 11:26Speaker 4: of your body to get to that next rung. You're
- 11:28Speaker 4: not flinging yourself from the first one to the last one.
- 11:31Speaker 4: That is how you're gonna fall flat on your face.
- 11:33Speaker 4: And that analogy has actually really helped me. It's like,
- 11:35Speaker 4: what is what feels like a stretch? If it's too easy,
- 11:38Speaker 4: you're not going anywhere, and if it's too hard, you're
- 11:41Speaker 4: falling flat on your face. So what's something that's in between.
- 11:44Speaker 4: Usually it's a smaller increment than you think. When we're
- 11:48Speaker 4: looking at the highlight reel, Especially when we're comparing our
- 11:51Speaker 4: goal to somebody else's, like expertise, you're usually comparing yourself
- 11:55Speaker 4: like less that you want to write a book. You're
- 11:56Speaker 4: not usually comparing yourself to the other person who's also
- 11:59Speaker 4: just right their first chapter. You're like, how can I
- 12:02Speaker 4: be the New York Times bestseller? And it's like, okay,
- 12:06Speaker 4: great goal, No dream is too big, but let's keep
- 12:09Speaker 4: the goals actually small.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Right right.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Doing something that is a little bit smaller also helps
- 12:15Speaker 2: you learn and feel what it's like to achieve, right,
- 12:18Speaker 2: because when you start achieving, then you have that motivation
- 12:22Speaker 2: to keep going and keep building. To your point about
- 12:25Speaker 2: the monkey bars and aspiring to be the next New
- 12:27Speaker 2: York Times bestselling author. I am sure when you started
- 12:30Speaker 2: writing years ago, shut up and Run, you had those aspirations, right.
- 12:34Speaker 2: You looked to big name authors and you thought, I
- 12:37Speaker 2: want to be just like her.
- 12:38Speaker 3: But you learn along the way.
- 12:40Speaker 4: For sure, for sure, And it's the meandering road to success.
- 12:43Speaker 4: Sometimes it's frustratingly meandering, but it's it's.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Your own at least.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I know it. I love that it's your own
- 12:51Speaker 3: at least.
- 12:52Speaker 2: So now, then, looking back on twenty four, if you
- 12:56Speaker 2: had to articulate maybe a word of the year, I
- 12:58Speaker 2: know we talked about ease going into twenty five, but
- 13:01Speaker 2: reflecting on the last twelve months, Robin, what would you
- 13:04Speaker 2: say your word of twenty twenty four was?
- 13:08Speaker 4: I would say strength because it was a year that
- 13:12Speaker 4: I got really physically strong, like I have never been
- 13:15Speaker 4: physically stronger.
- 13:17Speaker 1: And it's also a year.
- 13:19Speaker 4: Out from having my son, so it was a fun
- 13:23Speaker 4: year of strength training for me. Like it was I was.
- 13:26Speaker 4: I literally felt like I was rebuilding my body. I
- 13:30Speaker 4: guess it's kind of weird, like rebuilding a car. Like
- 13:33Speaker 4: That's how I approached training. I was like, Okay, cool, what.
- 13:35Speaker 1: If I do this? What if I do this? What
- 13:36Speaker 1: if I do this?
- 13:38Speaker 4: And they weren't big, sweeping things, and they weren't even
- 13:41Speaker 4: interesting things, but it was like, literally the little bit
- 13:45Speaker 4: of adding one little change plate, one kilo one pound
- 13:49Speaker 4: of weight, you know, to push made me really really
- 13:52Speaker 4: excited this year.
- 13:53Speaker 3: I appreciate that.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Again, we're talking about small, doable things, right and you're
- 13:58Speaker 2: in this place now where you are different than the
- 14:00Speaker 2: person that you were two years ago, three years ago,
- 14:04Speaker 2: five years ago, ten years ago. Right, you're different than
- 14:06Speaker 2: the woman that was running her first marathon now that
- 14:09Speaker 2: you've run twenty seven. You're different than the woman before
- 14:11Speaker 2: you had two kids that you had two kids. Right now,
- 14:14Speaker 2: can you talk a little bit about the evolution of
- 14:18Speaker 2: meeting yourself with where you're at, because I know that
- 14:20Speaker 2: for so many it's so hard not.
- 14:22Speaker 3: To compare yourself to a previous version of yourself.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Mm hmmm, Oh totally. It really is hard not to
- 14:30Speaker 4: compare to who you were. But I try to have new.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Finish lines in mind, right, so sometimes they're literal finish lines.
- 14:40Speaker 4: But okay, this is what I've gotten pretty good at
- 14:43Speaker 4: romanticizing the boring stuff, like trying to romanticize like the
- 14:49Speaker 4: little invisible moments that nobody is going to see. Whether
- 14:52Speaker 4: it's like literally putting my supplements in a pretty piece
- 14:56Speaker 4: of pottery that like, I just like, and I enjoy
- 14:59Speaker 4: putting my pills in that and nobody sees that, right,
- 15:05Speaker 4: Or it's getting an awesome water bottle and I enjoy
- 15:09Speaker 4: picking out my water bottle for the day and that's
- 15:11Speaker 4: what and then I take that around with me, you know,
- 15:13Speaker 4: throughout the day. And these are like silly things, but
- 15:18Speaker 4: I like them and it matters to me. And same
- 15:21Speaker 4: with getting my gear, Like I like setting up my
- 15:23Speaker 4: workout clothes. I like putting on clothes that make me
- 15:27Speaker 4: feel good. And these are ways that I kind of
- 15:31Speaker 4: romanticize moments of my day.
- 15:34Speaker 1: And for some folks it's maybe that cup of coffee, or.
- 15:36Speaker 4: It's the journaling or you know, so it's these are
- 15:40Speaker 4: little moments in my day where I feel like I
- 15:42Speaker 4: can make my routine a moment.
- 15:45Speaker 2: You know what I learned that They call that now,
- 15:47Speaker 2: they call that soft wellness, Robin, like soft wellness things
- 15:51Speaker 2: that are part of our routine that we can really integrate,
- 15:54Speaker 2: versus like hard wellness, which is like pushing the sled
- 15:58Speaker 2: and competing in a high rocks, trying all of your data,
- 16:01Speaker 2: that kind of thing.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Oh interesting, Okay, well, yeah, I've been doing that.
- 16:05Speaker 3: I've been a much friend for a long time now.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Okay, so we know a little bit about the value
- 16:11Speaker 2: of romanticizing the small things in the day to day.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Maybe to some the mundane, but to you, a very
- 16:17Speaker 2: important part of the bigger picture. Beyond that importance, what
- 16:22Speaker 2: else would you say was really critical that you learned
- 16:25Speaker 2: in twenty twenty four, whether it be about yourself, about
- 16:28Speaker 2: your wellness practices, about how you interact with your children.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Give us a lesson that you learned in the past
- 16:33Speaker 3: three sixty five.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Ooh, Parenting is a lot of just reparenting yourself, like
- 16:41Speaker 4: learning how to mother. I've learned how to mother myself,
- 16:46Speaker 4: and thankfully I was already on that path.
- 16:48Speaker 1: You know, a lot of the tools.
- 16:50Speaker 4: That that I'm teaching my kids are things that I've
- 16:53Speaker 4: had to teach myself, and I've taught, you know, through
- 16:56Speaker 4: the various platforms that I'm a part of, like Peloton
- 16:59Speaker 4: and otherwise. You know, it's self talk, it's breath work,
- 17:03Speaker 4: it's moving your body, it's filling your cups, it's self care,
- 17:07Speaker 4: and these are all principles that are obviously easier said
- 17:10Speaker 4: than done when you're in the throes of like all
- 17:13Speaker 4: the stuff I'm really proud to have taught my daughter,
- 17:16Speaker 4: like breathwork, like what to do when you feel like
- 17:19Speaker 4: when you're frustrated.
- 17:20Speaker 1: You know, even in something that she brought.
- 17:23Speaker 4: Home was tapping, you know, like tapping like these things
- 17:26Speaker 4: that we might learn, like in a therapist office. She's
- 17:28Speaker 4: learning at three years old, and I'm like, oh my gosh,
- 17:31Speaker 4: Like the future is bright if you kids have these tools.
- 17:34Speaker 4: You know that I didn't even know about nil I
- 17:36Speaker 4: was like twenty so those I think it's I think
- 17:39Speaker 4: it's the humbling nature of motherhood and parenthood for me
- 17:42Speaker 4: that but thankfully, like everything is figure outable and I'll
- 17:46Speaker 4: figure it out.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Amen to that, And oh good on a fun for
- 17:50Speaker 2: being a little tapper. That's so cute, so cute, and like,
- 17:55Speaker 2: what a great opportunity it is also to then learn
- 17:59Speaker 2: through my but then also learn from your kids, Like
- 18:02Speaker 2: such a beautiful two way street that you have the
- 18:05Speaker 2: chance to be on.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Mm hm.
- 18:06Speaker 1: And you know, I'm just getting started, you know.
- 18:08Speaker 4: And I know obviously there are folks listening who are
- 18:10Speaker 4: not caregivers, that have no interest in parenting.
- 18:12Speaker 1: But it really is the idea that like.
- 18:16Speaker 4: We're putting tools in our toolkit that we never don't
- 18:19Speaker 4: even realize when we're going to bring them out. Like
- 18:21Speaker 4: I didn't know becoming a parent that I was then
- 18:23Speaker 4: going to be relying so much more on my own
- 18:26Speaker 4: self care to get it done.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Yeah, And so for you that self care, when you
- 18:31Speaker 2: think about what it looks like, is that the trying
- 18:35Speaker 2: to be on your phone a little bit less picking
- 18:37Speaker 2: up the book, is that what falls into that bucket
- 18:39Speaker 2: for you?
- 18:40Speaker 4: It does, but it's because Okay, so I realized, like
- 18:45Speaker 4: when my kids go to bed, I am just like,
- 18:48Speaker 4: oh my gosh, that whole day was really intense. And
- 18:51Speaker 4: I'm trying to play with this idea of like if
- 18:55Speaker 4: I have a few other moments throughout the day where
- 18:58Speaker 4: I don't actually need to be on my phone, like
- 19:00Speaker 4: even if it's five minutes, if I can read two
- 19:02Speaker 4: pages in a book, well, I have felt like I
- 19:06Speaker 4: had a mini escape, right, like like if I'm like
- 19:11Speaker 4: letting the pressure out of the safety valve for literally
- 19:14Speaker 4: two minutes.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Like if somebody asked me, would I feel better?
- 19:18Speaker 4: Like asking me Robin, would I feel better if I
- 19:20Speaker 4: did sixty seconds of air squats?
- 19:22Speaker 1: I would say absolutely yes.
- 19:24Speaker 4: So I'm experimenting with if I read two pages of
- 19:28Speaker 4: a book instead of mindlessly scrolling, would I feel better?
- 19:33Speaker 4: I think yes, even if it doesn't, even if I
- 19:36Speaker 4: would love to read a whole chapter, you know, like
- 19:38Speaker 4: that's I'm trying to apply the methodology to something else.
- 19:42Speaker 2: I appreciate that, and as someone else who is also
- 19:45Speaker 2: super active, I have over the last two years really
- 19:48Speaker 2: had to work on finding coping mechanisms that had nothing
- 19:52Speaker 2: to do with moving my body because I needed to
- 19:54Speaker 2: give myself a break.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Totally totally get it, totally.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Get it, always up like a you know, eighty five
- 20:01Speaker 2: pound barbell and be.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Like screw all of this, like it's funny, Like I can't.
- 20:06Speaker 3: I physically cannot.
- 20:07Speaker 2: So I remember years and years ago I started, and
- 20:10Speaker 2: this is a bigger time commitment, but I would like
- 20:12Speaker 2: book dates with myself just to go see a movie
- 20:14Speaker 2: and get out of the house. Like you don't need
- 20:16Speaker 2: to be at the movies with another human being. You
- 20:18Speaker 2: can literally just escape for an hour and a half
- 20:21Speaker 2: and do something different that doesn't require you to literally
- 20:25Speaker 2: go run eight to ten miles outside.
- 20:27Speaker 1: A man girl. You know Wicked.
- 20:29Speaker 4: So I saw Wicked alone at the earliest showing available
- 20:34Speaker 4: in Manhattan. I literally had to get a babysitter to
- 20:37Speaker 4: go to the movies by myself, happy to do it,
- 20:40Speaker 4: and I bought like one of the last seats available,
- 20:42Speaker 4: and it was the nine a m. Showing in Manhattan
- 20:45Speaker 4: of Wicked, and it was the most delightful two hours
- 20:48Speaker 4: and forty minutes for you. It was great, So highly recommend,
- 20:54Speaker 4: highly recommend solo movie date.
- 20:55Speaker 3: We love a solo movie date.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Taking a little break from today's episode to give some
- 21:04Speaker 2: love to my friends at A six. Whether your new
- 21:07Speaker 2: year's goals consist of more positive mindsets, more movement, or

- 21:22Speaker 2: I say the word nimbus because it makes me think
- 21:24Speaker 2: of Harry Potter, but I digress. The Gael Nimbus twenty

- 21:30Speaker 2: experience for all of the miles ahead.

- 21:58Speaker 2: ten dollars off your next order using the code hurdle
- 22:02Speaker 2: ten h U r d l E one zero at
- 22:05Speaker 2: checkout at A six dot com. Today, I'm gonna put
- 22:17Speaker 2: the pressure on a little bit now and we're gonna
- 22:19Speaker 2: talk about start, stop, and keep doing. You have an
- 22:25Speaker 2: opportunity to start doing something, keep doing something, and stop
- 22:30Speaker 2: doing something.
- 22:31Speaker 3: I'm gonna start with start. Where do we begin, Robin.
- 22:35Speaker 4: Start really recovering, treating my recovery days like a guilt
- 22:42Speaker 4: free recovery day where I'm not trying to plan and
- 22:45Speaker 4: plot and add last minute like I'm the Queen of
- 22:49Speaker 4: taking taking a recovery day. And then it's, oh, I'll
- 22:53Speaker 4: just do like a little pilates, I'll just do a
- 22:55Speaker 4: little yo, you know, I'll just do a little little
- 22:57Speaker 4: and then it ends up being like a forty five
- 22:58Speaker 4: minute full workout. And it's like, girl, that you are
- 23:01Speaker 4: not even taking the advice that you know is like
- 23:03Speaker 4: heavily backed by science and research.
- 23:05Speaker 2: How do you cultivate that like positive conversation with yourself
- 23:09Speaker 2: that it's okay to do that? Because I know and
- 23:11Speaker 2: I'm sure you do as well, that a lot of
- 23:13Speaker 2: people struggle with like offering themselves that grace.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Okay, so I have been rooting it in.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Okay.
- 23:21Speaker 4: I have a visualization exercise that I've been doing now
- 23:24Speaker 4: on my recovery days, well right now, right now, I'm
- 23:26Speaker 4: not taking recovery, but it's only for the month because
- 23:28Speaker 4: I'm doing three for thirty one.
- 23:30Speaker 1: But when I resume them, it is the Sundays. Mind
- 23:36Speaker 1: recovery days are on Sundays.
- 23:37Speaker 4: The Sunday version of Robin talking to the Wednesday version
- 23:40Speaker 4: of Robin, who is going to be under the barbelle,
- 23:42Speaker 4: and the Wednesday version of Robin wants to be recovered
- 23:45Speaker 4: enough to be to go heavy in the back squad,
- 23:48Speaker 4: to go heavy in the deadlift, to go heavy in
- 23:50Speaker 4: the bench press, and that version of Robin loves a
- 23:54Speaker 4: recovered body because that is and I see it, I
- 23:57Speaker 4: see it, I can go heavier when I have the
- 24:00Speaker 4: recovery day. And so I toy with kind of that
- 24:03Speaker 4: visualization of like version one, version two verb, Sunday version,
- 24:07Speaker 4: Wednesday version, and that is kind of how I'm trying
- 24:12Speaker 4: to like enter that space.
- 24:13Speaker 2: I'm imagining like like a little Robin, like a little Robin,
- 24:18Speaker 2: and like a she's like girl.
- 24:22Speaker 4: Yeah, and then it's also planning things that don't Okay,
- 24:28Speaker 4: so you know what I'm so in my painted pottery moment,
- 24:32Speaker 4: I took a ten to a painted pottery place and
- 24:36Speaker 4: it was two hours of just like delightful taller girl talk,
- 24:43Speaker 4: but girl talk nonetheless, and it was painting and it
- 24:46Speaker 4: was so fun. And now we have these like really
- 24:49Speaker 4: cute little painted things that we get to put on
- 24:51Speaker 4: our shelves. And it was an it was a sit
- 24:54Speaker 4: down and do nothing but do something moment. So I
- 24:58Speaker 4: think arts and crafts might be my new Sunday vibe.
- 25:01Speaker 2: I love that and quality times so special, exactly, so
- 25:05Speaker 2: special to be able to do both of them. Okay,
- 25:07Speaker 2: So we are going to really start recovering fully in
- 25:11Speaker 2: twenty twenty five. In twenty twenty five, we are going
- 25:14Speaker 2: to keep doing.
- 25:15Speaker 1: What keep my routine.
- 25:17Speaker 4: I love my routine, my movement practices, my supplement game,
- 25:22Speaker 4: that's all staying.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Yeah, what would you say is one thing that you
- 25:26Speaker 2: added this year to your routine that you're excited to
- 25:29Speaker 2: keep specifically, So obviously the routine is locked in, it's loaded,
- 25:33Speaker 2: but maybe a relatively new aspect to it that really serves.
- 25:37Speaker 4: You I might be kind of late to this, but
- 25:42Speaker 4: cooling sheets, oh wow.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:45Speaker 4: And a sleep mask that goes like all the way around.
- 25:49Speaker 1: It is like it envelops my eyes and my ear.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Wait, I love this. Do you happen to know the
- 25:55Speaker 3: name of this?
- 25:56Speaker 4: Yeah? I got it in like a pr package. But
- 25:57Speaker 4: I'll I'll take a picture and I'll send it to you.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Oh my god, amazing. Yes, we love, we love a
- 26:02Speaker 2: sleep mask. I am like a no light sleeper. I
- 26:04Speaker 2: need it to be black. So I'm on team sleep mask. Yes, yes, okay.
- 26:09Speaker 2: And then, last but not least, stop doing In twenty
- 26:13Speaker 2: twenty five, what's on the list for Robin?
- 26:15Speaker 1: I stopped taking I'm a no kid's birthday party girly.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Oh wait, this is a hot take.
- 26:28Speaker 4: My husband takes Athena to the kids' birthdays and the
- 26:31Speaker 4: and the social invites that if it's a kids specific thing,
- 26:35Speaker 4: Like I listen, my nephew had a birthday, I obviously
- 26:37Speaker 4: went he is my godson. Like I'm not like, you know,
- 26:40Speaker 4: you know, a tyrant, but you know, there's a lot
- 26:43Speaker 4: of invites come in my kid's way, and I just
- 26:48Speaker 4: don't know if I have like the social battery for
- 26:50Speaker 4: that life.
- 26:51Speaker 1: So it's either a no thank you or my or
- 26:54Speaker 1: my husband's doing it.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Okay, so we have stop, start and keep on lock.
- 26:59Speaker 2: No more kids, my partners. Oh my god, you're not alone.
- 27:05Speaker 2: But yeah, listen, I got to protect my peace somehow
- 27:08Speaker 2: and listen.
- 27:08Speaker 4: And also, to be fair, Latina's not yet at the
- 27:11Speaker 4: age where she's like, mom, I must hang out with
- 27:13Speaker 4: so and so, Like clearly she has a great social life, Like,
- 27:16Speaker 4: I'm not going to keep her from her friends. We
- 27:18Speaker 4: got to find a way that, like, I'm not going
- 27:20Speaker 4: crazy on its Saturday at two pm at like a
- 27:23Speaker 4: playhouse with seventy five kids and in a sensory overload,
- 27:27Speaker 4: like it's just a lot on my nerdly understand.
- 27:29Speaker 3: I totally understand.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Looking back at the last twelve months, I know you
- 27:33Speaker 2: talked about that you're feeling maybe stronger than ever in
- 27:36Speaker 2: your body in this moment. What else would you say
- 27:38Speaker 2: that you're really proud of yourself for in twenty twenty four.
- 27:42Speaker 2: I know Atlas is growing rapidly but had a very
- 27:46Speaker 2: big growth year in twenty twenty four as well.
- 27:48Speaker 3: So what I'm all proud of right now?
- 27:51Speaker 1: I am?
- 27:53Speaker 4: I am really proud of my team at Peloton. I'm
- 27:57Speaker 4: really proud of my fellow instructors. I think that that,
- 28:00Speaker 4: you know, we continue to build a Pelton brand and
- 28:04Speaker 4: do it from a place of like super genuine desire
- 28:08Speaker 4: to see people get stronger and you know, step into
- 28:12Speaker 4: their lives and all the ways that moving allows us
- 28:15Speaker 4: to do.
- 28:15Speaker 3: So.
- 28:16Speaker 1: I'm really really proud of the instructor team.
- 28:17Speaker 3: I love that.
- 28:18Speaker 2: And as you know, in your position, a lot of
- 28:21Speaker 2: people looking to you as they start the new year
- 28:24Speaker 2: for motivation inspiration. A part of the reason why three
- 28:27Speaker 2: for thirty one is so awesome is because it really
- 28:29Speaker 2: gets that ball rolling for you. Now as you begin
- 28:33Speaker 2: a new chapter in twenty twenty five, for someone that
- 28:36Speaker 2: is seeking that little bit of extra motivation, what do
- 28:40Speaker 2: you say to them as they're starting this next chapter.
- 28:44Speaker 4: I would say, you know, a practical tip is think
- 28:49Speaker 4: about the write the goal down right, like the dream,
- 28:55Speaker 4: and then write a second column of all of the
- 28:58Speaker 4: verbs that you're entails. Because I think that we get
- 29:03Speaker 4: into and I love it. I'm a full proponent of
- 29:05Speaker 4: like dream big, like paint the most robust picture ever,
- 29:10Speaker 4: like no limits, But then we get like caught in
- 29:14Speaker 4: that ethereal space and then like, well, we'll tell a
- 29:17Speaker 4: friend or we'll post about that ethereal space and then
- 29:20Speaker 4: we like get the dopamine hit as if we've done it.
- 29:22Speaker 4: And I just want folks to like root themselves in
- 29:25Speaker 4: the action. So break out the action verbs and then
- 29:31Speaker 4: create a plan or schedule, send the email, then do
- 29:35Speaker 4: one of those things like actually do it something that
- 29:38Speaker 4: takes two minutes or less, right, like James clear vibes,
- 29:40Speaker 4: like do it and then do it again, and then
- 29:43Speaker 4: do it again, and then do it again, and just
- 29:45Speaker 4: it's just forever. Like I don't mean sorry to burst
- 29:48Speaker 4: the bubble, but it's just forever. Consistency creates legends.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Yeah, practically speaking, if you were to look back on
- 29:56Speaker 2: the year, is there a goal that you achieved personally
- 30:00Speaker 2: you're really proud of.
- 30:02Speaker 4: Yeah, my first solo high rocks was awesome, and now
- 30:05Speaker 4: I want to get you know, faster, stronger, all the things.
- 30:08Speaker 1: But in that sense, like it never ends, but I
- 30:11Speaker 1: really did it.
- 30:12Speaker 4: I think it did a good job being proud of
- 30:16Speaker 4: the accomplishment in the moment in the window, right. I
- 30:19Speaker 4: don't think that we spend enough time giving ourselves credit
- 30:22Speaker 4: for the small wins or the big wins for that matter.
- 30:26Speaker 1: So like give yourself credit.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Yeah, aside from actually giving yourself credit, what does that
- 30:30Speaker 2: celebration period look like for you? How do you make
- 30:35Speaker 2: sure that you're really giving yourself the kudos that you deserve.
- 30:38Speaker 1: I actually sent myself.
- 30:41Speaker 4: I recorded this is like super awkward, but I recorded
- 30:45Speaker 4: a voice memo that was just for me, like, not
- 30:48Speaker 4: for social media, not for like whatever after I that weekend,
- 30:52Speaker 4: so I could remember like the pride in my voice.
- 30:55Speaker 1: And it was just for me.
- 30:57Speaker 4: And I don't know if I'll ever listen to it again,
- 30:59Speaker 4: but I have it so on a rainy day or
- 31:03Speaker 4: maybe like my race of high rocks again and I
- 31:05Speaker 4: don't get the time or whatever, like just to like
- 31:07Speaker 4: remember the pride in my voice. So I highly recommend,
- 31:11Speaker 4: like put a voice memo in your phone for a
- 31:13Speaker 4: rainy day.
- 31:15Speaker 1: You never know when you might need to remember like
- 31:17Speaker 1: who you were in that moment.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and let's be real, although the exciting moments are wonderful,
- 31:25Speaker 2: a lot of the moments don't feel as shiny or
- 31:29Speaker 2: bright and brilliant, right, So to have that in those
- 31:33Speaker 2: moments that are feeling really tough gives you the opportunity
- 31:36Speaker 2: to remind you that there is a light reading for
- 31:38Speaker 2: you with all of the hard work that you're putting in,
- 31:40Speaker 2: whether it's going after another high Rocks or it's something
- 31:43Speaker 2: completely unrelated.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 31:46Speaker 4: And I think, I mean, I don't know, maybe twenty
- 31:48Speaker 4: twenty five can be the year where we really start
- 31:51Speaker 4: like celebrating the invisible work and the boring moments, Like
- 31:56Speaker 4: we're so seeking the highlight reel and I understand I
- 32:00Speaker 4: do too. I'm like, wow, this would be great for Instagram,
- 32:02Speaker 4: this would be a cool clip for blah blah blah,
- 32:03Speaker 4: Like we all have a tendency to do that. But
- 32:07Speaker 4: I'm like down to celebrate the boring stuff because that's
- 32:10Speaker 4: actually the boring, consistent stuff is actually what's going to
- 32:13Speaker 4: move the needle more.
- 32:14Speaker 2: I actually want to ask you about a goal that
- 32:18Speaker 2: you had and now that you're executing, which is writing
- 32:21Speaker 2: this cookbook, because what I think that people might not
- 32:25Speaker 2: understand is you likely had that goal before you started
- 32:29Speaker 2: necessarily creating content that you started sharing with everyone about cooking.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Is that correct?
- 32:36Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 32:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I've had a goal of having a cookbook for
- 32:38Speaker 4: like over a decade and low key like I'm the
- 32:43Speaker 4: person always getting down in my kitchen. And then it
- 32:45Speaker 4: was the pandemic where I was like, oh, okay, well
- 32:47Speaker 4: i'm home, I might as well like show people what
- 32:49Speaker 4: I affectionately call, you know, the royal kitchen. And then
- 32:53Speaker 4: the cookbook came about, and I'm so grateful. It's such
- 32:56Speaker 4: a cool projects. It's like the highlight of my week
- 32:59Speaker 4: is working on that cookbook.
- 33:01Speaker 2: And I think that's really awesome, right, because this is
- 33:04Speaker 2: exemplifying what it looks like to work backward from a goal.
- 33:08Speaker 2: It's like, Okay, the ultimate goal is to work on
- 33:10Speaker 2: this cookbook. So what are the things that are within
- 33:12Speaker 2: my control that I can do to start manifesting to
- 33:16Speaker 2: make it happen and making those smaller doables that when
- 33:19Speaker 2: they're happening, you know, two three, four years out, it's like,
- 33:23Speaker 2: is this ever going to happen? Am I ever going
- 33:24Speaker 2: to get a cookbook deal? And then it happens because
- 33:27Speaker 2: you set the stones into place to build the road
- 33:32Speaker 2: that gets you to where you want to be.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Exactly, and it feels so far off like sometimes or
- 33:39Speaker 4: like when you're you almost have to start doing sometimes
- 33:44Speaker 4: the actions back to the action verbs to convince yourself
- 33:49Speaker 4: that you're worthy of that thing. Like I am not
- 33:53Speaker 4: Martha Stewart. I don't even have a mixer. I don't
- 33:56Speaker 4: even have the right stuff, like, honest to goodness, I
- 33:58Speaker 4: was just adding things to my cart because I was like, well,
- 34:00Speaker 4: I guess now that I'm writing a cookbook, I probably
- 34:01Speaker 4: need this kind of pan Like I just wing it,
- 34:05Speaker 4: And that's part of the cookbook is like I'm a
- 34:06Speaker 4: remixed artist in the kitchen, Like this is like how
- 34:08Speaker 4: practical can we make it?
- 34:10Speaker 1: Yes? Pretty, yes, delicious, But like this is truly like
- 34:13Speaker 1: if you were coming over to my house. But I
- 34:16Speaker 1: had to start doing.
- 34:18Speaker 4: The thing to convince myself that I was like worthy
- 34:20Speaker 4: of that story.
- 34:22Speaker 2: I had friends that were making chicken parm last night
- 34:25Speaker 2: and I said to her. I was like, I'm kind
- 34:27Speaker 2: of impressed that you have. I don't know what the
- 34:30Speaker 2: for a mallet like a chicken pounder, and she's like,
- 34:32Speaker 2: oh no, we fully use wine bottles for that, okay, exactly.
- 34:38Speaker 4: Like like cheers to the low key, you know, the
- 34:41Speaker 4: chefs with a lowercase C.
- 34:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it's fine, that's so funny. It's so funny.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Well, I, for one, am super excited about the Cokebook,
- 34:50Speaker 2: and so grateful to have a dose of inspiration from
- 34:53Speaker 2: you going into the new year. As we wind down here,
- 34:58Speaker 2: you have an opportunity to offer you yourself a piece
- 35:00Speaker 2: of advice looking back at the last twelve months, knowing
- 35:04Speaker 2: what you know now, anything you tell yourself at the
- 35:06Speaker 2: beginning of twenty twenty four, looking now down the pipe
- 35:09Speaker 2: at twenty twenty five, I.
- 35:11Speaker 4: Would probably tell twenty twenty four Robin that you are
- 35:15Speaker 4: deserving of the love you give to others.
- 35:18Speaker 1: I think I forgot that for a bit.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Yeah, going back to the themes that we've really talked
- 35:22Speaker 2: about here, it's super refreshing to hear someone who often
- 35:26Speaker 2: is saying it's so important to love on yourself. It's
- 35:29Speaker 2: so important to prioritize self, Like we still need to
- 35:33Speaker 2: be reminded of that time and time.
- 35:35Speaker 4: Yeah, and also for anyone who's like loves a to
- 35:38Speaker 4: do list, loves a calendar, just because it feels good
- 35:41Speaker 4: to accomplish all those things doesn't mean you shouldn't continue
- 35:45Speaker 4: to distinguish between busyness and productivity, between self care and achievement.
- 35:51Speaker 4: And I think, like, for what, for a minute, my
- 35:54Speaker 4: self care became achievement and I was like, wait, this
- 35:58Speaker 4: is not the same thing.
- 36:00Speaker 1: So yeah, just unpacking.
- 36:02Speaker 3: That, dude. I am right there with you.
- 36:07Speaker 2: But in the process of impacking that, I have to ask, like,
- 36:10Speaker 2: was there a part of time or was there a
- 36:12Speaker 2: period of time where you had to get used to
- 36:15Speaker 2: maybe what felt like achieving a little bit less.
- 36:19Speaker 4: Yes, and allowing things to breathe like I don't mean
- 36:23Speaker 4: I mean not literally my own breath, like allowing things
- 36:27Speaker 4: to breathe, like it's okay if the email doesn't go
- 36:31Speaker 4: out right now, it's okay.
- 36:32Speaker 1: If you don't have an answer on that deal right now,
- 36:33Speaker 1: it's okay if you don't have a deal right now.
- 36:35Speaker 4: And like, yes, I gret Yeah, these are like privileged conundrums,
- 36:39Speaker 4: but it's absolutely where my head goes.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, thank you for sharing that. I'm so happy
- 36:44Speaker 2: again that we were able to catch up.
- 36:45Speaker 3: Robin.
- 36:46Speaker 2: I know that so many of the people listening to
- 36:47Speaker 2: this follow you right now, But for those of you
- 36:49Speaker 2: that aren't keeping up with you, just yet, give us
- 36:52Speaker 2: the details.
- 36:53Speaker 4: Where can we find you on the socials? Yeah, I'm
- 36:55Speaker 4: Robin and YC on all platforms, of course. You can
- 36:58Speaker 4: find me a peloton. Yeah, excited to see where this
- 37:01Speaker 4: year takes us.
- 37:02Speaker 3: Y'all.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Amen, I'm over at Hurdle Podcast and at Emily a Body,
- 37:06Speaker 2: Another hurdle conquered.
