- 0:46Speaker 4: Perry a number one. Well, last time this line was
- 0:48Speaker 4: on the ice, I talked about this newly minted fourth
- 0:51Speaker 4: line with Jaden Schwartz out there with Winterton and Myers
- 0:54Speaker 4: and Schwartz doing some good pressure behind the Pittsburgh then
- 0:58Speaker 4: picks up that Puck makes a great beat up to Myers.

- 1:20Speaker 3: kjar dot com. The Kraken from the last time we
- 1:23Speaker 3: spoke with you then played New Jersey, Boston, Utah, Pittsburgh
- 1:27Speaker 3: three on the road, this one, this last game, opening
- 1:30Speaker 3: a six game homestand and let's just say not exactly
- 1:34Speaker 3: going to plan. Overtime loss at the Devils, back to
- 1:39Speaker 3: back to back, three in a row losses here at Boston,
- 1:43Speaker 3: Utah and at home against the Penguins. So cracking right now,
- 1:47Speaker 3: fighting for dear life. Entering today, they are officially on
- 1:51Speaker 3: the outside looking in at the wildcard spot, two points
- 1:54Speaker 3: back of the Anaheim Ducks. And guess who's coming in
- 1:57Speaker 3: later on this week? Yep, the Ducks as well. All
- 2:02Speaker 3: wrapped around games against the New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils,
- 2:06Speaker 3: and much more. Without further ado, time to bring in
- 2:10Speaker 3: the all star crew ever written now, Fellas it was
- 2:14Speaker 3: fun on the road. I think the winds would have
- 2:16Speaker 3: been a lot even to make it a lot more
- 2:18Speaker 3: fun as well. But I want to begin here name
- 2:21Speaker 3: one thing we enjoyed off the ier from this previous
- 2:23Speaker 3: road trip.
- 2:25Speaker 5: The food. Yeah, too quickly.
- 2:30Speaker 3: You can't beat Uncle Jackson Manhattan. I will say that
- 2:33Speaker 3: you can't beat Uncle Jackson.
- 2:36Speaker 5: The camaraderie.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna say the company. I'm gonna the company.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I enjoyed getting you, getting you out the New York
- 2:44Speaker 1: Mike trips to New York and MSG.
- 2:47Speaker 2: When I when I first I did my first game.
- 2:49Speaker 1: There, it was it was a close to a biblical
- 2:52Speaker 1: experience for me inside the world's most famous arena, doing
- 2:56Speaker 1: what we do for a living. You know, I think
- 2:59Speaker 1: for you you obviously that first game in Staples Center
- 3:03Speaker 1: was big. But growing up watching a lot of Knicks
- 3:06Speaker 1: games and a lot of NBA on NBC and seeing
- 3:10Speaker 1: that that arena, that was.
- 3:12Speaker 5: Really cool for me.
- 3:13Speaker 1: So to see you be able to work in that
- 3:15Speaker 1: press box and the habit that was that was probably
- 3:18Speaker 1: the company You and Al getting to hang out and
- 3:21Speaker 1: doing all that.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Well, I mean, the company makes it all happen. You
- 3:24Speaker 3: guys make it all happen. But I will say this,
- 3:26Speaker 3: going into New York, man, that building an MSG, it
- 3:30Speaker 3: just hits different. And what I love about it is
- 3:33Speaker 3: that it's been renovated, but not to the point where
- 3:36Speaker 3: you've scraped away the entire identity of what was say
- 3:40Speaker 3: the seventies nixt the nineties, rangers, et cetera. You can
- 3:43Speaker 3: still see parts of that building, a big crusty around
- 3:46Speaker 3: the edge, just besides the renovated seats and luxury suites
- 3:49Speaker 3: and whatnot. So that's just what made a pretty cool plus.
- 3:51Speaker 3: I mean, man, the brand new press box and that
- 3:54Speaker 3: I mean, I shouldn't say brand new, but sort of
- 3:56Speaker 3: brand new. That gondola up there, it's one of the
- 3:57Speaker 3: best views in the NHL period.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 4:03Speaker 3: We'll just start here with our opening thoughts, and I'm
- 4:06Speaker 3: going to begin with trying to go down the road
- 4:10Speaker 3: of matter of fact, the Seattle Kraken sent down Jacob
- 4:14Speaker 3: Mallanson shortly before Thursday's game against Boston last Thursday. Ever
- 4:19Speaker 3: since then, they're rowing three. They have a full lineup,
- 4:23Speaker 3: but where's the identity? Beginning in mid December, the krack
- 4:28Speaker 3: and trade of Mason marchmant and sent a new message
- 4:31Speaker 3: that there are kids who have potentially a place in
- 4:34Speaker 3: this lineup. Ty Cartier is right there, not so much
- 4:38Speaker 3: a kid, but still a call up in Ben Myers,
- 4:41Speaker 3: he's right there. Jacob Allanson then coming up hitting everything
- 4:45Speaker 3: that moved as well. Lane Lambert called that line also responsible.
- 4:50Speaker 3: That's how you earned trust. Eventually, Cartier was replaced by
- 4:54Speaker 3: Ryan Winterton on that line, but yet that line continued
- 4:57Speaker 3: to hit. They ford checked and they produce as well.
- 5:01Speaker 3: And not only that, but they capture the entire imagination
- 5:04Speaker 3: of fans in this entire area. They capture the attention
- 5:07Speaker 3: of the national media as well, and last was certainly
- 5:10Speaker 3: not least, they captured the attention of their own team.
- 5:15Speaker 3: You know what, they gave them energy and energy can
- 5:19Speaker 3: be an infectious thing. You just look at the record
- 5:22Speaker 3: when that line was put together afterward eighth to two
- 5:25Speaker 3: and ten games. Energy dragged this team right back into
- 5:29Speaker 3: the playoff mix, where a month ago it seemed bleak.
- 5:33Speaker 3: And this should be a message to anyone who suits up.
- 5:36Speaker 3: The kids are waiting. They deserve to be up here,
- 5:39Speaker 3: They need to be up here, and if you want
- 5:41Speaker 3: clear direction and a winning path, eventually, my opinion, they
- 5:45Speaker 3: are going to be up here. The only question is
- 5:48Speaker 3: how soon can they get this back together, because there's
- 5:51Speaker 3: absolutely positively zero way the chemistry and calculus of this
- 5:56Speaker 3: lineup one to two weeks ago, in my opinion, results
- 5:59Speaker 3: in sluggish and lagging play that we've seen that led
- 6:03Speaker 3: here to this, And you can point no further than
- 6:06Speaker 3: last night and what happened against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Guys,
- 6:10Speaker 3: your opening thoughts.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Spicy, spicy Mike, Yeah, yeah.
- 6:16Speaker 2: I mean, you know, Mike, for me, I think I
- 6:19Speaker 2: think you're spot on. You know, the Kraken. We're unfortunately
- 6:26Speaker 2: in a bit of a no.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Win situation with them being all healthy. And you know,
- 6:32Speaker 1: I love what Lane Lambert said the other day when
- 6:35Speaker 1: he goes, I don't want to say that having everyone
- 6:38Speaker 1: back healthy.
- 6:39Speaker 2: As a problem, it's a good thing.
- 6:41Speaker 1: But then also in that same breath, he pretty much
- 6:44Speaker 1: told us, you know, we're kind of going back to
- 6:47Speaker 1: to the beginning here because we're forty at the time,
- 6:50Speaker 1: forty six games in something like that, and that was
- 6:53Speaker 1: the first time that they've had a full lineup.
- 6:56Speaker 2: So Lane Lambert was like, yeah, I gotta work.
- 6:58Speaker 6: On this chemistry again. These guys got to get.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Used to playing with one another again.
- 7:02Speaker 1: And you're right, yes, the fourth line was was your
- 7:06Speaker 1: best line and they were providing that energy. And to
- 7:10Speaker 1: quote one of my earliest childhood crushes, Janet Jackson, what
- 7:14Speaker 1: have you done for me lately? Well, lately that line
- 7:17Speaker 1: has been your best line. But you have to get
- 7:21Speaker 1: Chandler Stevenson back in. You have to get Brandon Montor
- 7:24Speaker 1: back in. Jordan neverly missed those couple of games. You're
- 7:27Speaker 1: not gonna sit those guys. And it's it's the unfortunate
- 7:32Speaker 1: nature of our business that you know, certain guys are
- 7:37Speaker 1: gonna play over other guys. And I'm not saying that
- 7:40Speaker 1: they're not deserving. I don't want this to come off
- 7:42Speaker 1: as me saying Stevenson and Montour and Emily and all
- 7:45Speaker 1: those guys don't deserve to play. They're your best players
- 7:48Speaker 1: for a reason. But when you've got a twenty three
- 7:51Speaker 1: man roster, you can't carry twenty four. When you've got
- 7:54Speaker 1: guys who have been vets in this league for years
- 7:56Speaker 1: and have and have been through it, they're gonna play games.
- 8:00Speaker 1: And you're right, the kids are here, the kids are coming.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I'm with you, play the kids. But unless a trade happens,
- 8:08Speaker 1: unless there's another injury, that happens.
- 8:11Speaker 6: And I'm being frank, I'm.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Not you know, I understand that I'm a company employee,
- 8:14Speaker 1: so I got to watch what I can say a
- 8:16Speaker 1: little bit more than you guys maybe do. But you know,
- 8:19Speaker 1: unless that trade call is made, or unless an injury happens,
- 8:23Speaker 1: which we're hoping for, not another long stretch of injuries.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I think the crack and they've gotten their injuries out
- 8:28Speaker 1: of the way for the year. Let's not have any
- 8:30Speaker 1: more guys hurt unfortunately. You know you're going to see
- 8:34Speaker 1: some really good players who maybe deserve another shot to play.
- 8:39Speaker 6: Out of the lineup.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Yeah, A couple of things that stand out to me, Mike.
- 8:42Speaker 4: First of all, I don't necessarily disagree with you with
- 8:45Speaker 4: your opinion, especially even though that makes for a good conversation.
- 8:49Speaker 4: I think that some combination of getting these kids back
- 8:54Speaker 4: in the lineup is an important part of moving forward.
- 8:57Speaker 4: But having said that, when I look at the last
- 9:00Speaker 4: five games, a couple of things that stand out to me.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Three of those games you get scored on shorthanded, three
- 9:07Speaker 4: in a row. There's no verifiable evidence that this franchise
- 9:11Speaker 4: has ever been scored on three games in a row shorthanded.
- 9:14Speaker 4: And I cannot emphasize enough how much that takes the
- 9:18Speaker 4: wind out of your sales from a player from a team,
- 9:20Speaker 4: from a you know, a momentum standpoint in a game.
- 9:23Speaker 4: It's it's not impossible, obviously, but it's hard to battle
- 9:27Speaker 4: back from that, So that's number one. Number two is
- 9:31Speaker 4: our goaltending, I think is the reason why this team
- 9:35Speaker 4: is in a playoff position.
- 9:37Speaker 5: You have to score goals, but this duo.
- 9:40Speaker 4: You know, there are three goaltenders, but over the last
- 9:43Speaker 4: five games, it's been Grubauer and Decord. This this duo
- 9:47Speaker 4: has put this team in a position just about every
- 9:50Speaker 4: game to win hockey games three to two, two to one,
- 9:53Speaker 4: three to one, something like that. And over the last
- 9:56Speaker 4: five games things haven't gone that way, two games in
- 9:58Speaker 4: a row, losing six to three.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Obviously some empty nitters in there, but.
- 10:02Speaker 4: My point is is that this team relies on not good,
- 10:07Speaker 4: but great goaltending to win hockey games, and they haven't
- 10:10Speaker 4: had it over the last five. So in addition to
- 10:13Speaker 4: playing the kids more, I think giving up shorthanded goals
- 10:17Speaker 4: and goaltending that seems to have progressed a little bit
- 10:20Speaker 4: over the last five is hurting this team right now.
- 10:23Speaker 3: And I think this is certainly a good part of
- 10:24Speaker 3: the conversation.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Yet I remember I was gonna say, yeah, we talked
- 10:28Speaker 1: about that not too long ago, about your goltening has
- 10:33Speaker 1: been your best player night in, night out. But it's
- 10:37Speaker 1: almost unfair to heap all of that pressure on to
- 10:42Speaker 1: decord At Grubauer, to have to go out and consistently
- 10:46Speaker 1: throw out nine to fifty save percentages, to consistently have
- 10:50Speaker 1: to shut down thirty or thirty two shots. At a
- 10:53Speaker 1: certain point, you know, you gotta score goals. And Lane
- 10:56Speaker 1: Lambert has said it multiple times. I want this team
- 11:00Speaker 1: to be more selfish. I want these guys to shoot
- 11:02Speaker 1: the puck more. He challenged Chandler Stevens and he's been
- 11:05Speaker 1: finding the back of the net and be getting some
- 11:07Speaker 1: points in recent games, and he's like, yeah, I want
- 11:09Speaker 1: Chandler Stevenson to shoot the puck more. And then so
- 11:13Speaker 1: taking pressure off of your goaltending, I think is going
- 11:17Speaker 1: to be important as well as you move down or
- 11:20Speaker 1: as you move along into these next eight games, if
- 11:24Speaker 1: you include tomorrow night, eight games between now and the Olympic.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Break, the goaltending part of this and the shorthanded goal
- 11:33Speaker 3: part of this is going to be I think a
- 11:34Speaker 3: big thing that we'll talk about here. But I want
- 11:36Speaker 3: to go back to Lane Lambert and what he said
- 11:39Speaker 3: after the game against Pittsburgh, and there's two parts of this.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Number one it had to do with the shorthanded goal,
- 11:46Speaker 3: and I think also number two with what he's looking
- 11:49Speaker 3: for more out of this line up. Then here's Lane
- 11:51Speaker 3: Lambert meeting with the media after last night.
- 11:53Speaker 7: Coach talking about the shorthanded goals. Is there a common
- 11:58Speaker 7: thread among the three that you've given up in the
- 12:02Speaker 7: last three games, because I would think that might make
- 12:05Speaker 7: it easier to correct or is it a bunch of
- 12:08Speaker 7: different things or pucks bouncing off over sticks? Is there
- 12:13Speaker 7: something that you see that is correctable.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Well, it's always correctable.
- 12:19Speaker 5: You know.
- 12:20Speaker 8: We you know, we have a face off battle in
- 12:24Speaker 8: Utah the other day and they end up coming out
- 12:26Speaker 8: of that with a three on two. We play that
- 12:28Speaker 8: very poorly tonight. You know, we knew that they were
- 12:32Speaker 8: locking their bench side with their forward and their forward
- 12:34Speaker 8: was going to step and that was pre scouted for
- 12:37Speaker 8: our players.
- 12:39Speaker 2: That was indicated to them.
- 12:42Speaker 8: They saw a video on it, and they stepped, got
- 12:46Speaker 8: a breakaway, So we got.
- 12:47Speaker 2: To be better.
- 12:49Speaker 3: That was a short hand of goal. And here's Lane
- 12:50Speaker 3: Lambert Now as far as has view in the lineup,
- 12:53Speaker 3: the guys got it.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Within one on the power play and the rest of
- 12:56Speaker 2: the game.
- 12:57Speaker 6: Would you maybe wanted to see to you know, try to.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Fill the result.
- 13:01Speaker 8: Well, I thought, you know, when we got it within one,
- 13:05Speaker 8: I just didn't think we for checked. Well, I thought
- 13:07Speaker 8: we were not connected enough. Whether it was a lack
- 13:11Speaker 8: of energy from coming off a road trip, I don't know,
- 13:14Speaker 8: you know, but I just didn't think there was a
- 13:16Speaker 8: lot of connectivity to our game, and as a result,
- 13:20Speaker 8: we allowed them to break out of their zone too quickly.
- 13:23Speaker 8: You know, we we got back into it, so to speak,
- 13:26Speaker 8: where we had an opportunity to pull our goalie, and
- 13:28Speaker 8: we took ourselves right back out of it with a
- 13:30Speaker 8: failed breakout.
- 13:34Speaker 9: Coach, you kind of mentioned yesterday that there might be
- 13:36Speaker 9: some mixing up of the lines today, and sure enough,
- 13:39Speaker 9: Jane Schwartz was for a lot of the game on
- 13:41Speaker 9: the fourth line. How did you like that combo? I
- 13:43Speaker 9: mean they can averted for two goals. How'd you like
- 13:46Speaker 9: him playing with those two?
- 13:48Speaker 2: I liked.
- 13:49Speaker 8: I liked the fourth line. I'd like the fourth line
- 13:51Speaker 8: for a while. You know, we need the other lines
- 13:55Speaker 8: to be better.
- 13:56Speaker 3: So this is what I think, beginning part one, what
- 13:59Speaker 3: frustrates a lot of fans here, And I'll go back
- 14:01Speaker 3: here to the short handed goal. Chandler Stevenson who's been
- 14:04Speaker 3: great at producing offense, and we all know how well
- 14:07Speaker 3: he is that at the face off circle he had
- 14:09Speaker 3: a clear giveaway and the Connor do Or turnover and
- 14:12Speaker 3: then boom, a shorthanded goal. This isn't Lane Lambert singling
- 14:15Speaker 3: one guy out, but across the board, it's sending a
- 14:17Speaker 3: clear message here to everyone else, because aside here from
- 14:20Speaker 3: the Ben Meyers line, he said, everyone's got to be better.
- 14:24Speaker 3: I mean, you think I'm making this up here, folks,
- 14:26Speaker 3: I mean at first off one coach said it to
- 14:28Speaker 3: look at the metrics here from last night five on
- 14:31Speaker 3: five shot attempts Schwartz, Meyers, Winterton nine to three in
- 14:35Speaker 3: their favor. Everyone else, Cock Openeer's every outshot nine to two,
- 14:41Speaker 3: Tolben and Stevenson, Goudrou outshot eleven to five, McCann, Wright
- 14:44Speaker 3: Catton outshot five to one. Then there's the the zillion
- 14:48Speaker 3: other line combos that Lane Lambert tried last night in
- 14:51Speaker 3: the Blender, who said, I mean, it's like training camp
- 14:54Speaker 3: all over again, with a lineup that really hasn't been
- 14:58Speaker 3: much in place here since about untill roughly three games ago.
- 15:01Speaker 3: But I mean, hey, when you chase the NHL bottom line,
- 15:04Speaker 3: you teen fade too much. And I think this is
- 15:06Speaker 3: the most candid we've ever heard and seen Lane Lambert,
- 15:09Speaker 3: who's prest accountability from day one, culture from day one,
- 15:13Speaker 3: but he's working with a lot of moving parts right now, guys.
- 15:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I think he's frustrated, Mike.
- 15:18Speaker 4: I think he's frustrated that he's seen this team at
- 15:20Speaker 4: their best and what they can do. And when you
- 15:22Speaker 4: don't see that, you're disappointed, you're frustrated.
- 15:25Speaker 5: So I get it.
- 15:27Speaker 4: I think it's not necessarily one thing, but it always
- 15:30Speaker 4: starts with leadership. If your leaders aren't going, it's tough
- 15:34Speaker 4: to have success in this league. So it's always going
- 15:37Speaker 4: to start from leadership, and then you look for more,
- 15:39Speaker 4: and certainly the fourth line is one area you look
- 15:42Speaker 4: for for more. But when the fourth line is doing
- 15:45Speaker 4: the best they can do and contributing, but there are
- 15:48Speaker 4: other pieces that are missing, again, that's frustrating.
- 15:50Speaker 5: So I get his position on those questions. I think
- 15:56Speaker 5: it starts there.
- 15:57Speaker 4: I think it spreads beyond in terms of, you know,
- 16:00Speaker 4: the starts have not been good over this these last
- 16:03Speaker 4: five uh, for whatever reason. And and and you know
- 16:07Speaker 4: Lane will say, is it fixable? Yeah, it's fixable. But
- 16:10Speaker 4: he can't fix it. The players have to fix it,
- 16:12Speaker 4: right So until they decide to come out with an
- 16:17Speaker 4: intensity that outmatches the team they're going against, until they
- 16:21Speaker 4: decide to uh punish the team physically in the first
- 16:24Speaker 4: five to seven minutes, especially at home, to get the
- 16:27Speaker 4: crowd behind it, until they decide to not give up
- 16:30Speaker 4: the first or second goals of the of the game. Uh,
- 16:33Speaker 4: those bad starts are going to continue, and and those
- 16:36Speaker 4: are a couple of areas where you can change that.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I think for me listening to that, it goes
- 16:42Speaker 1: back to a lot of what we talk about. You know,
- 16:44Speaker 1: there really aren't egregious mistakes. These are These are small
- 16:48Speaker 1: areas that you know you're forty five games in and
- 16:52Speaker 1: you can hear in his voice like, guys, we shouldn't
- 16:55Speaker 1: be doing this forty five games in, right that That
- 16:58Speaker 1: That's what I That's what I heard from from Lane
- 17:01Speaker 1: in those comments. And I think the frustration of hey,
- 17:08Speaker 1: we knew what they were going to do on the PK,
- 17:10Speaker 1: we watched it, we knew this was coming, and we
- 17:14Speaker 1: fell into that trap, right That is? That is uh,
- 17:18Speaker 1: you know, the laps of the judgment. Whatever you want
- 17:21Speaker 1: to call it momentary lapse of judgment. This isn't a
- 17:24Speaker 1: bad hockey team, but this team more often than not,
- 17:27Speaker 1: will let one mistake, two mistakes.
- 17:30Speaker 6: End up in the back of their net.
- 17:31Speaker 1: And we've seen that, whether that be some bad passes
- 17:33Speaker 1: from the defensive zone.
- 17:35Speaker 2: All of these things are fixable. All of these things
- 17:37Speaker 2: are fixable.
- 17:39Speaker 1: And you know, I don't have the comments in front
- 17:42Speaker 1: of me, but he a couple of games ago, I
- 17:44Speaker 1: think Mikey you you tweeted it out about the mentality,
- 17:48Speaker 1: you know, about coming out four or five shifts later
- 17:51Speaker 1: and having that same mentality.
- 17:53Speaker 3: After the Utah game.
- 17:54Speaker 6: Yeah, the Utah game.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Yeah, when when Winterton and Myers and Milansen were together.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I remember listening to a couple of folks online, the
- 18:03Speaker 1: Daily Face Off people. They were talking about how that
- 18:05Speaker 1: line was the identity line, and that line the way
- 18:09Speaker 1: that they played. You're hoping that that filters into the
- 18:14Speaker 1: rest of your lineup and the rest of your team,
- 18:16Speaker 1: and I don't think we've seen that in the last
- 18:19Speaker 1: couple of outings for Seattle.
- 18:22Speaker 3: More deep stuff here, and we're gonna get back to goaltending.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Let's just kind of compare the numbers since out of
- 18:27Speaker 3: the Christmas break because they are what they are right now.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Philip Grubauer seven games say percentage nine to two five,
- 18:35Speaker 3: Joey Decord six games say percentage eight eighty four. I
- 18:41Speaker 3: think paraphrasing this lane Lambert wasn't too thrilled at some
- 18:44Speaker 3: of the goals that were led in, especially by Decord,
- 18:46Speaker 3: And I think you had to kind of look at
- 18:48Speaker 3: this here from a contextual matter. Was a topable shot?
- 18:52Speaker 3: Was he screen? Was it deflected here? But guys, where
- 18:54Speaker 3: are we at with goltending right now, at this clear
- 18:57Speaker 3: and present day.
- 18:57Speaker 4: Yeah, Mike, I looked at the last five games for
- 19:01Speaker 4: each goaltender. Of those five or of those ten five
- 19:05Speaker 4: for each goaltender, six of them have had save percentages
- 19:08Speaker 4: below nine hundred. And again I go back to my
- 19:11Speaker 4: previous comment. For this team to win, our goaltenders need
- 19:15Speaker 4: to be in the nine hundreds just to have a
- 19:17Speaker 4: chance at winning. Now when they drop, when they drop
- 19:19Speaker 4: below that, you'd love to see this team step up
- 19:21Speaker 4: and say, don't worry, Joey, don't worry, Phil, we got you.
- 19:24Speaker 4: We're gonna put five or six in tonight and we'll
- 19:26Speaker 4: win six, five, five four.
- 19:28Speaker 5: But I don't you can count on that very often.
- 19:31Speaker 4: So if these goaltenders aren't playing above nine hundred save percentages,
- 19:36Speaker 4: it just doesn't put this team in a position to
- 19:38Speaker 4: win hockey games. That's number one. Number two is specifically
- 19:42Speaker 4: in the game against Pittsburgh, I looked at three of
- 19:45Speaker 4: the five goals. There was a nineteen netter as well,
- 19:47Speaker 4: but three of the five goals there were shots that
- 19:49Speaker 4: went through screens. Now you can say, as a goaltender,
- 19:53Speaker 4: I couldn't see the puck, and at least on one
- 19:56Speaker 4: of them, you could see Joey looking left, looking right,
- 19:58Speaker 4: trying to see around the screen. And at a certain point,
- 20:01Speaker 4: and I have this from talking to goaltenders, at a
- 20:04Speaker 4: certain point, when you can't see the shot coming, all
- 20:07Speaker 4: you can do is anticipate when it's coming, listen for
- 20:10Speaker 4: the sound, and then get into the butterfly position. Well,
- 20:13Speaker 4: what happens when you go into the butterfly position, Both
- 20:15Speaker 4: top corners are wide open.
- 20:18Speaker 5: That's where those goals were scored.
- 20:20Speaker 4: So I'm not putting it on Joey decord that three
- 20:23Speaker 4: of those five goals were his fault.
- 20:25Speaker 5: They were screens.
- 20:27Speaker 4: My point is is that when this goltening duo, and
- 20:30Speaker 4: eventually the trio isn't able to keep the same percentage
- 20:34Speaker 4: above nine hundred.
- 20:35Speaker 5: They don't put this team in the position to win
- 20:37Speaker 5: hockey games.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Yeah, you know this, It's it's very unfortunate because it's
- 20:45Speaker 1: almost as if our goaltending, this team's goaltending, is not allowed.
- 20:51Speaker 2: To have a bad day.
- 20:52Speaker 5: They're not allowed to have a slump.
- 20:54Speaker 1: And that's unfortunate because, like, how many times have we
- 20:58Speaker 1: talked about players not scoring, you know, to two guys
- 21:01Speaker 1: in particular, Jade Schwartz is on a nine game point round.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Shane Wright gotten assists, He's got five points his last
- 21:07Speaker 1: twenty three games, right but other players are picking them up.
- 21:11Speaker 2: And I'm not trying to call.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Those guys out, you know, specifically, but those are the
- 21:16Speaker 1: two that are the top of my mind right now.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Goaltending guys are gonna slump, you know, even the even
- 21:21Speaker 1: andre Vassilevski, even Igorsky, even the best goaltenders that we
- 21:25Speaker 1: have in our league, Jay otten Erconnor Hellibuk, even those
- 21:28Speaker 1: guys are going to have a down week or a
- 21:32Speaker 1: down month, and but they've got the pieces around them
- 21:36Speaker 1: to pick them up.
- 21:38Speaker 2: And we and we've said it before.
- 21:39Speaker 1: This is not me talking smack like this is this
- 21:43Speaker 1: has been said from coaches and players. Our goaltenders have
- 21:48Speaker 1: to be our best players, and I think that sometimes
- 21:51Speaker 1: can be a little bit of an unfair.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Weight to put.
- 21:57Speaker 6: On them eighty two times a year.
- 22:00Speaker 5: Year.
- 22:00Speaker 1: You need a Patrick Wavian goaltending performance in order to
- 22:07Speaker 1: win three to two, Right, Like, at a certain point,
- 22:10Speaker 1: we're gonna need four goals, We're gonna need five goals.
- 22:12Speaker 1: We're gonna need You know, the Kracking have given up
- 22:14Speaker 1: twelve goals in the last two games. Right, They've been
- 22:17Speaker 1: outscored twelve to six in the last two games.
- 22:20Speaker 2: It would be nice if the Cracking could.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Outscore a team twelve to six over a two game stretch, right,
- 22:23Speaker 1: That would be nicest, Right, But it's just not how
- 22:26Speaker 1: this team is constructed. We've talked about the offensive struggles
- 22:29Speaker 1: all season long. It's just not this team. So it
- 22:32Speaker 1: is the unfortunate weight that the goaltenders have to bear.
- 22:36Speaker 1: And I say all of this to say, Joey Decord
- 22:39Speaker 1: in the last couple of games is probably going through
- 22:44Speaker 1: an average normal slump that anybody in the course of
- 22:48Speaker 1: an eighty two game season will go through right. This
- 22:51Speaker 1: is nothing egregious. This isn't like man Joey Decord has washed,
- 22:55Speaker 1: you know. This is this is Joey Decord playing in
- 22:59Speaker 1: January with you know, twenty some odds starts under his belt.
- 23:04Speaker 1: He's going to get back, He's gonna get back to
- 23:06Speaker 1: playing the way that we've seen him play all year long.
- 23:10Speaker 1: But it's just magnified because the cracking had been losing games.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Before we get to break here, I want to check
- 23:16Speaker 3: in here on the power play because they have been
- 23:18Speaker 3: terrific and I think they deserve a lot as far
- 23:21Speaker 3: as the spotlight on them, because since December one, thirty
- 23:24Speaker 3: point eight percent, the only better team in the NHL
- 23:27Speaker 3: in that span is the Edmonton Oilers at thirty five
- 23:31Speaker 3: point five. Chris Taylor is helping steer that wheel right now,
- 23:35Speaker 3: deserving a lot of praise. They are not just producing,
- 23:38Speaker 3: but delivering in key moments. And I think on the
- 23:41Speaker 3: flip side, the shorthanded goals, yeah, it's a rash that's
- 23:43Speaker 3: got to stop here, but overall they are producing. I
- 23:47Speaker 3: go back and look here at the point man for
- 23:48Speaker 3: powerplay ice time, and this is where it gets interesting.
- 23:51Speaker 3: The Boston game vin'ce done powerplay ice time two forty
- 23:55Speaker 3: eight Brandon Montour three twelve. This coincided with the re
- 24:00Speaker 3: turned a Montor here to the lineup Utah game, Vin's
- 24:03Speaker 3: done two fifteen Montor a shade below him at two
- 24:07Speaker 3: oh eight. Last game against Pittsburgh, Vin's done two thirty
- 24:12Speaker 3: three random Montur two fifty. I'm posing this in this matter.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Do we think there's a conversation merited about how the
- 24:22Speaker 3: number two unit or parts of it are now being
- 24:25Speaker 3: used more and deservedly?
- 24:26Speaker 4: So, yeah, I think you're always trying to stack your
- 24:30Speaker 4: top unit as much as possible, Mikey. I think they, uh,
- 24:33Speaker 4: you know, that's your best shot of scoring on the
- 24:36Speaker 4: power play. Not because the first half of the power
- 24:39Speaker 4: play is better than the second half of the power play.
- 24:41Speaker 4: It's just that that first unit tends to stay on
- 24:43Speaker 4: the ice longer. That first unit. You know, if they
- 24:46Speaker 4: don't get up ice right away, but it's later in
- 24:48Speaker 4: the first minute that they finally get some sustained ozone
- 24:51Speaker 4: time at you know, fifty seconds, sixty seconds, they're going
- 24:54Speaker 4: to keep going. So now you're pushing into a minute,
- 24:56Speaker 4: minute and a half. That second unit just doesn't have
- 24:58Speaker 4: as much time. So I like the idea of stacking
- 25:02Speaker 4: your first unit. I don't think our first unit is stacked.
- 25:06Speaker 4: If you were, you probably would have Montour and Done
- 25:09Speaker 4: together out there a couple of big shots. That's my
- 25:14Speaker 4: comment on personnel, but I also have comments on.
- 25:19Speaker 5: The approach to the power play.
- 25:20Speaker 4: I still don't think they're shooting the puck enough, and
- 25:23Speaker 4: it seems like when they do shoot the puck. We
- 25:26Speaker 4: saw Jared mccannon shoot the puck in the Pittsburgh game
- 25:28Speaker 4: on the power play, and Stewart Skinner could see the
- 25:33Speaker 4: shot the entire way comes out, takes out the angles,
- 25:35Speaker 4: makes a good say, no traffic in front? Saw done
- 25:39Speaker 4: do it a couple of times, same thing, no traffic
- 25:41Speaker 4: in front. But when there is traffic, it seems like
- 25:44Speaker 4: this team doesn't shoot the puck. And obviously there's a
- 25:46Speaker 4: fear of it going off a shin pad and giving
- 25:48Speaker 4: up a shorthand and break away.
- 25:50Speaker 5: I get that, but.
- 25:51Speaker 4: It's putting the pucks past the shin pads, as we
- 25:54Speaker 4: saw Pittsburgh do three times in that game, that often
- 25:58Speaker 4: result in either goal or or skirmishes in front they
- 26:02Speaker 4: can can turn into goals.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I think as far as the power play goals,
- 26:07Speaker 1: I mean power play goes.
- 26:10Speaker 2: It's it's shooting.
- 26:11Speaker 1: And again I say it all the time. I hate
- 26:14Speaker 1: to be the guy six cors lights in in the
- 26:17Speaker 1: fifth row. But you're seeing the Kraken shoot the puck more,
- 26:20Speaker 1: whether it's from the point, whether it's McCann getting that
- 26:23Speaker 1: shot off. And and we've said, you know this team's
- 26:27Speaker 1: gonna score by going to the net. Shoot the puck,
- 26:29Speaker 1: go to the net, jam it off someone's face, I mean,
- 26:32Speaker 1: or off someone's backside, off someone's leg, off a shin.
- 26:37Speaker 1: We asked Lane Lambert about two weeks ago, three weeks
- 26:40Speaker 1: ago what the change was on the power play, and
- 26:43Speaker 1: he was kind of cagy. He was a little cooie
- 26:45Speaker 1: about He was like, I'm not gonna tell you what
- 26:46Speaker 1: this change was, but we get changed.
- 26:48Speaker 6: I was like, okay, sounds good, but but I'm not
- 26:51Speaker 6: gonna argue with you.
- 26:53Speaker 1: But no, out you're right, like I think the Kraken
- 26:56Speaker 1: if they loaded up that top power play unit with
- 26:59Speaker 1: with a dum and.
- 27:00Speaker 6: I'm on tour two of your shooters, and then you
- 27:02Speaker 6: give that.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Second power play to Riker Evans and because they're only
- 27:06Speaker 1: getting forty seconds and you think about it, right, So,
- 27:09Speaker 1: but no, I like the direction the power play is going.
- 27:13Speaker 1: In the penalty kill, I feel like has been making
- 27:17Speaker 1: improvements in spurts a little bit. You know that they'll
- 27:21Speaker 1: go pretty well and then they'll give up a couple
- 27:23Speaker 1: that you like to see not go in and they go,
- 27:26Speaker 1: you know, back to playing pretty well for the next
- 27:28Speaker 1: four or five games. But you know, as as far
- 27:30Speaker 1: as the power play goals goes, that's one of those
- 27:33Speaker 1: areas that I think if we want to keep seeing
- 27:35Speaker 1: this team stay in the fight, you need one of
- 27:38Speaker 1: those units. You can't have two bad special teams units.
- 27:41Speaker 1: And right now your power play has been giving you
- 27:44Speaker 1: some much needy goals.
- 27:45Speaker 4: So just one comment on goal scoring because I want
- 27:48Speaker 4: to I want to time my previous comments about needing
- 27:51Speaker 4: to score four or more to having success, and part
- 27:53Speaker 4: of that is the power play.
- 27:55Speaker 5: But the last time.
- 27:57Speaker 4: This team scored four goals in regulation was Big Boston
- 28:00Speaker 4: wins seven to four, And you could say seven goals
- 28:04Speaker 4: is a lot of goals.
- 28:05Speaker 5: Maybe that's an anomaly game.
- 28:07Speaker 4: But prior to that, you have to look back to
- 28:09Speaker 4: December fourth against Edmonton and it was a four to
- 28:12Speaker 4: one win where this team scored four goals in regulation.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Now what I mean is there were no empty net goals.
- 28:18Speaker 4: There are a lot of goals or a lot of
- 28:20Speaker 4: games where there were wins where they were empty net goals,
- 28:22Speaker 4: and it ended up being four total, but four that
- 28:24Speaker 4: don't include an empty net goal that goes back.
- 28:26Speaker 5: To December fourth.
- 28:27Speaker 4: So my point is that when you look at the
- 28:30Speaker 4: wins throughout the year, other than a small handful, this
- 28:34Speaker 4: team needs to keep the goals against at three or less,
- 28:38Speaker 4: and when they don't, whether that's the goaltender's fault, whether
- 28:40Speaker 4: that's screens, whether it's the player's fault, whether it's the
- 28:43Speaker 4: coach's fault, they oftentimes are not in a position to win.
- 28:46Speaker 1: This cracking team is a three to two team. This
- 28:49Speaker 1: is a two to one, three to two hockey team.
- 28:51Speaker 1: This isn't a five to four team, This isn't a
- 28:54Speaker 1: four to three team. This is a three to two
- 28:56Speaker 1: team and win. And by all account it seems like
- 29:01Speaker 1: they have been pretty comfortable. But when they get comfortable
- 29:05Speaker 1: realizing it's not always going to be sexy, it's not
- 29:08Speaker 1: always going to be pretty, you're allowed to win games three.
- 29:11Speaker 4: To one, and you're right fits it's not fair to
- 29:14Speaker 4: blame the goaltenders. They're allowed to have a bad night
- 29:17Speaker 4: as well, and you know when they can't see shots
- 29:19Speaker 4: coming through. My point was is that Joey Decord didn't
- 29:23Speaker 4: necessarily play bad in that Pittsburgh loss.
- 29:25Speaker 5: He just couldn't see the bucks.
- 29:26Speaker 4: So if they're if the goaltenders can't keep this team
- 29:30Speaker 4: at three goals against or less, they're often not.
- 29:32Speaker 5: In a position to win. That's just the reality.
- 29:34Speaker 3: We have to get to break here because we have
- 29:36Speaker 3: Evan Pivnick coming up, but again our Crack and Whetley
- 29:38Speaker 3: poll question, who's next to get called up from Coachella Valley.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Vote right now at x AD Krack and audio and
- 29:44Speaker 3: as a Jacob Alanson or Jagger Fergus or Oscar Fisko
- 29:47Speaker 3: Mulgard or someone else, vote right now. Evan Pivnik right
- 29:51Speaker 3: around the corner right here on ninety three three k JRFM.
- 29:55Speaker 3: A lot to talk about here with Coachella Valley's six
- 29:57Speaker 3: points clear of the cut line heading into this part
- 30:01Speaker 3: of the season and without further ado. Joining us right
- 30:03Speaker 3: now is broadcast voice Ethan Pevnik for the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Piv and enjoined some fun in the sun right now
- 30:10Speaker 3: and also some Firebirds wins on top of that. How
- 30:12Speaker 3: are you, man?
- 30:13Speaker 2: I'm doing great.
- 30:14Speaker 10: Those two paired together, I think, uh make for a
- 30:17Speaker 10: great couple of winter months, if we can call it
- 30:20Speaker 10: a winter.
- 30:21Speaker 1: I see your I see your your social media posts
- 30:24Speaker 1: every now and again, and it's just sunny. You're outside
- 30:27Speaker 1: and in a Firebirds jersey promoting Pride night. You got
- 30:31Speaker 1: a little glisten of sweat because it's a little warmed eye.
- 30:34Speaker 2: I always have a glisten of sweat.
- 30:36Speaker 3: How many times have you made it into the office
- 30:38Speaker 3: in flip lops like Dan Bilsman used to tell us
- 30:40Speaker 3: he used to do.
- 30:42Speaker 10: I hate my I hate my feet, So not very often,
- 30:47Speaker 10: but you know what I've I've thought about it before.
- 30:50Speaker 10: I probably have done it a couple of times because
- 30:51Speaker 10: I if here's here's here's a flexment for you guys,
- 30:55Speaker 10: I will do it if I'm like playing golf later
- 30:57Speaker 10: in the day and I need to pop it.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Down nice, you know.
- 31:03Speaker 2: But I don't do that very often.
- 31:05Speaker 3: Past a halfway point of the season, PIV. What are
- 31:07Speaker 3: we learning about this team, the kids and where Derek
- 31:10Speaker 3: Laxtall's taking them?
- 31:12Speaker 10: I think one thing we've learned is it's a resilient team.
- 31:14Speaker 10: And whether that is because of the inexperience for a
- 31:18Speaker 10: lot of these players or just the overall character, could
- 31:22Speaker 10: be a combination of the two. But it feels like
- 31:24Speaker 10: every time the Firebirds are down in a game, they
- 31:26Speaker 10: don't get down on themselves. They kind of just go
- 31:28Speaker 10: out and say, Okay, well, you know what, we have
- 31:31Speaker 10: X amount of time left in this game. Let's go
- 31:32Speaker 10: out and make the most of it. And we've seen
- 31:34Speaker 10: them come back from multi goal deficits a bunch this year,
- 31:37Speaker 10: and it's it's different guys that step up too. I
- 31:40Speaker 10: think the Firebirds were struggling about three weeks ago and
- 31:44Speaker 10: and kind of at the core of their heartbeat was
- 31:47Speaker 10: was a fourth line, kind of similar to how the
- 31:49Speaker 10: Kraken were. Their fourth line was keeping them moving until
- 31:52Speaker 10: the other guys kind of found their groove once again.
- 31:55Speaker 10: Getting Yannie Newman back down and him getting acclimated was
- 31:58Speaker 10: a big help. And again, Jagger Fercus and Logan Morrison
- 32:01Speaker 10: are just having fantastic seasons. You paired that with Oscar
- 32:04Speaker 10: Fisker Molgard who's doing your great job as well, And
- 32:08Speaker 10: of course you know, John Hayden has been a guy
- 32:09Speaker 10: who's been down the majority of the year and has
- 32:12Speaker 10: just kind of made the most of it. So it's
- 32:14Speaker 10: been really good to see everyone come together. And then defensively,
- 32:18Speaker 10: you know, Tyson jug Nath has been doing his thing.
- 32:20Speaker 10: He's just been so consistent for Coachella Valley this season,
- 32:24Speaker 10: and goaltending has been top notch too.
- 32:26Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll get to some prospects here in a bit,
- 32:28Speaker 3: but I think the obvious question off the bat is
- 32:30Speaker 3: people who have been watching Yanni Newman, people who've been
- 32:33Speaker 3: watching Jacob Allanson, they know what they're all about. At
- 32:36Speaker 3: the NHL level. The question is how much more can
- 32:38Speaker 3: they refine their game right now or how much can
- 32:40Speaker 3: they hold firm until the numbers called right back up
- 32:43Speaker 3: again once a roster spot opens. So I mean Yannie Newman,
- 32:47Speaker 3: I mean well deserved for AHL Player of the Week honors.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Three straight games with two goals, and my goodness, it's
- 32:52Speaker 3: like it doesn't matter where he's fighting a way to
- 32:54Speaker 3: score a goal. Evan with a shot going to the
- 32:56Speaker 3: front of the net. Jacob Allanson, I wish hits were tracking.
- 33:00Speaker 3: AHL stats don't make this possible. He too at this
- 33:03Speaker 3: present day, but one assist since coming back, five shots
- 33:06Speaker 3: as well in two games since coming back. What do
- 33:09Speaker 3: we make so far out of Newman and Malanson while
- 33:11Speaker 3: they're there right now?
- 33:13Speaker 10: I think Newman took a little bit of time to
- 33:14Speaker 10: acclimate back. I think the main thing was just the
- 33:18Speaker 10: time on ice was a big differentiator for him. You know,
- 33:21Speaker 10: he came in this season not playing a ton of
- 33:24Speaker 10: minutes each game with the Kraken, and then he went
- 33:26Speaker 10: from playing a few minutes to not playing at all,
- 33:29Speaker 10: and then all of a sudden, his first game back
- 33:30Speaker 10: down here, I think he played, you know, at least
- 33:33Speaker 10: fifteen minutes, and I think he felt it a little bit.
- 33:35Speaker 10: So it took a little bit for him to get acclimated.
- 33:38Speaker 10: But you know what, once he does, he's a goal scorer.
- 33:40Speaker 10: He's a guy who just goes in and puts the
- 33:41Speaker 10: puck in the back of the net, no matter how
- 33:43Speaker 10: it is. He had a power play goal in his
- 33:46Speaker 10: first game, but I think his leg has kind of
- 33:48Speaker 10: caught up to him a bit. He was minus five
- 33:51Speaker 10: in that game too, but he since has adjusted. He's
- 33:54Speaker 10: been a plus seven over his last four games mentioned
- 33:58Speaker 10: six goals and assist as well, AHL Player of the Week.
- 34:01Speaker 10: So he's just he's just finding ways to hit the
- 34:03Speaker 10: back of the net and he's been really sharp.
- 34:05Speaker 2: And you talked about Jacob Allanson.
- 34:06Speaker 10: He's a guy who I think has come back and
- 34:09Speaker 10: he's just been a better version of himself since his
- 34:13Speaker 10: call up in the NHL. And that will do it
- 34:14Speaker 10: for you, right, you know, you get your confidence back,
- 34:16Speaker 10: you get big time minutes, you get higher responsibilities, better responsibilities,
- 34:22Speaker 10: and I think he came back and really is you know,
- 34:26Speaker 10: I'm I'm sure the conversation between him and you know,
- 34:30Speaker 10: the crack and hockey ops, you know, Jason Botral and
- 34:33Speaker 10: Ron Francis, I'm sure it was a great conversation. You know,
- 34:36Speaker 10: it probably met me like the way he probably left
- 34:38Speaker 10: that meeting. I'm sure he felt great. Right, Hey, we
- 34:41Speaker 10: we love to keep it right now, but hey, contracts
- 34:44Speaker 10: and waivers and whatnot. Go down and do your thing
- 34:47Speaker 10: with with the Firebirds a place where he's comfortable playing
- 34:50Speaker 10: without a doubt.
- 34:51Speaker 6: You know what.
- 34:52Speaker 10: He he's just he's been awesome. He's you know, I
- 34:56Speaker 10: don't know if there's a little ship on his shoulder.
- 34:57Speaker 2: I'm sure there is.
- 34:58Speaker 10: Right, Whenever you get sent down, you're you want to
- 35:00Speaker 10: show people that you belong and you know, he's come
- 35:03Speaker 10: in hit everything that moves, He's you know, had a
- 35:07Speaker 10: couple of assists. He just makes things happen, and that's
- 35:09Speaker 10: he's doing the same exact thing as he did up
- 35:11Speaker 10: in the NHL.
- 35:11Speaker 2: His game doesn't change with Jannie Newman. What were the
- 35:14Speaker 2: things that they sent.
- 35:14Speaker 6: Him down to work on.
- 35:16Speaker 10: I think one of the biggest things is trusting the shot.
- 35:18Speaker 10: I think confidence is the biggest thing for Yanni and
- 35:21Speaker 10: I'm sure for any young player who has scored so much,
- 35:25Speaker 10: and I think we see it a lot with the
- 35:27Speaker 10: guys coming from junior. I know he came from overseas
- 35:29Speaker 10: in Finland, but you go from being the guy right
- 35:33Speaker 10: and you're expected to be a contributing player when you
- 35:37Speaker 10: get to the American Hockey League. Things are different though,
- 35:40Speaker 10: because everyone in the league, for the most part, was
- 35:42Speaker 10: the guy at one point. But you know, it took
- 35:46Speaker 10: Gianni a little bit to figure out last year too,
- 35:48Speaker 10: once he started playing a little bit adjusted, and then
- 35:50Speaker 10: he ended up scoring twenty eight goals and becoming an
- 35:52Speaker 10: All Star and one of the best rookies in the league.
- 35:56Speaker 10: But it's just a little bit of confidence for him,
- 35:58Speaker 10: and I think when he plays more, he plays consistently,
- 36:01Speaker 10: that's when we see the best of Yonnie Newman.
- 36:03Speaker 2: We're starting to see it right now.
- 36:04Speaker 10: And hopefully if he gets call up another call up
- 36:07Speaker 10: this year, which we hope he does, he steps up
- 36:09Speaker 10: and keep keeps that confidence up to the NHL level.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Evan Pivnick joining us right now on the Beacon Plumbing hotline,
- 36:15Speaker 3: and I want to get to Oscar Fisker Moleguard here.
- 36:17Speaker 3: Evan twenty one points in thirty four games, and people
- 36:20Speaker 3: who might look at surface numbers might say, well, ho hum,
- 36:24Speaker 3: and he's got points now in three straight games. But
- 36:27Speaker 3: I think we learned a little bit more with Fisker
- 36:30Speaker 3: Moleguard at the NHL level with the right kind of
- 36:33Speaker 3: role and the right kind of fit for him, and
- 36:36Speaker 3: how he's able to adapt to the pace of the
- 36:39Speaker 3: NHL and then help find a way to generate momentum,
- 36:43Speaker 3: if not scoring opportunities at the NHL level. So what
- 36:48Speaker 3: do the numbers say about him, but also the play
- 36:51Speaker 3: under the hood say about him right.
- 36:53Speaker 10: Now, I think he's one of the smartest players on
- 36:55Speaker 10: the roster. I think you look at it from you know,
- 36:58Speaker 10: you mentioned points, points are what they are, right, and
- 37:01Speaker 10: there are times where he'll set up a play and
- 37:02Speaker 10: if they gave you know, third assists on a play,
- 37:06Speaker 10: then you could probably chock him up for another ten
- 37:07Speaker 10: points or so. He is just an incredibly smart player.
- 37:11Speaker 10: And you can see that experience that he got from
- 37:14Speaker 10: playing in the SHL orright, he played a few years there,
- 37:16Speaker 10: and that's playing against men and since an eighteen nineteen
- 37:19Speaker 10: year old kid playing against guys who are you know,
- 37:22Speaker 10: matured and and bigger and stronger and smarter, and I
- 37:26Speaker 10: think that helped him so much in his development and
- 37:29Speaker 10: that's why I think he's developed to this point where
- 37:31Speaker 10: he can play in the National Hockey League and make
- 37:33Speaker 10: an impact. You know, he's a key player on the
- 37:36Speaker 10: palty kill, key player and the power play. He's just
- 37:39Speaker 10: a guy that you want to have on your team
- 37:41Speaker 10: and into in difficult situations because he can get the
- 37:45Speaker 10: job done.
- 37:45Speaker 2: He doesn't freak out about it.
- 37:46Speaker 10: He kind of just takes it as a calm approach
- 37:49Speaker 10: to everything he does. And he's also he's a great
- 37:53Speaker 10: kid as well. He's great for the guys to have
- 37:54Speaker 10: in the locker room. He's a calming presence, that's sure,
- 37:58Speaker 10: and Tyler how vocal he is, but he's kind of
- 38:01Speaker 10: a leader by example, especially for these younger guys from.
- 38:04Speaker 1: What you've seen, Evan, what in your mind is the
- 38:07Speaker 1: gap between an Oscar Fisker Moligard, a Jacob Malanson, a
- 38:12Speaker 1: Yannie Newman, the Jagger Furcus? What's their gap between playing
- 38:16Speaker 1: in the AHL and playing in the NHL. And I
- 38:19Speaker 1: asked that because I was talking to a fan the
- 38:21Speaker 1: other day and a big baseball guy, and he was,
- 38:23Speaker 1: you know, trying to he explain to me how Triple
- 38:26Speaker 1: A Baseball versus the Mariners work.
- 38:28Speaker 6: And you know, I was telling.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Him the exact same thing about the AHL and Berth
- 38:32Speaker 1: the NHL. But when you're looking at that gap between
- 38:35Speaker 1: an everyday NHL player and an everyday AHL player or
- 38:40Speaker 1: or fringe guy in AHL versus NHL, what.
- 38:44Speaker 6: In your mind is the is the difference?
- 38:47Speaker 1: What what is that X factor why Malanson and Fisker,
- 38:52Speaker 1: Mouligard need to go up and down versus why they
- 38:55Speaker 1: just can't stay.
- 38:56Speaker 6: Here at the NHL level.
- 38:57Speaker 10: I think the biggest thing is waiting for their right
- 39:01Speaker 10: time to shine. It's opportunity and I think that's why
- 39:04Speaker 10: you see it when when guys go to different teams,
- 39:06Speaker 10: guys get traded and you know, change of scenery and whatnot.
- 39:09Speaker 10: You sometimes see guys perform way better than they did
- 39:12Speaker 10: even though they were on you know, playing the third line,
- 39:14Speaker 10: but now they're up to the second line and getting
- 39:16Speaker 10: better opportunities, playing more minutes, playing more consistently. You know,
- 39:21Speaker 10: that's that's the tough thing when you look at what
- 39:23Speaker 10: the Kraken can do. When a guy like if they
- 39:27Speaker 10: call Jagger Fercus up, where does he fit in in
- 39:29Speaker 10: the lineup? When Jacob Malonson goes up and plays in
- 39:31Speaker 10: the fourth line, that's his style of play. It's not
- 39:34Speaker 10: necessarily the same style of play as if you call
- 39:36Speaker 10: it Jagger Fercus. He's not going to be that fourth
- 39:38Speaker 10: line guy. So you want to be able to slot
- 39:40Speaker 10: him in where you can and be the most have
- 39:43Speaker 10: the most success when he's in that role. You know,
- 39:45Speaker 10: Oscar Fisker molg are the same way. He's not a
- 39:47Speaker 10: fourth line grinder. He could play a little bit more
- 39:50Speaker 10: of a tougher role if he needs to, but he's
- 39:52Speaker 10: a guy who needs to be second first line power
- 39:55Speaker 10: play minutes and whatnot. But I think that's kind of
- 39:59Speaker 10: the gap is just more so the opportunity than the skill.
- 40:02Speaker 10: You put yourself in the right situation, you're gonna score points.
- 40:05Speaker 10: I mean you you know, Fits, you know, I haven't
- 40:08Speaker 10: never seen you.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Play hockey, but you don't want to.
- 40:11Speaker 3: Yeah, but if you're, oh, but it would make for
- 40:13Speaker 3: great content though the people.
- 40:16Speaker 10: Yes, if you're But if you're on the first line,
- 40:19Speaker 10: you know, first unit power play, standing in front of
- 40:21Speaker 10: the net, you're gonna get a couple points here and
- 40:22Speaker 10: there if you just plant yourself there, right, yep, one
- 40:25Speaker 10: way or another.
- 40:26Speaker 2: And I'm not saying.
- 40:29Speaker 10: Clause I saying, everet Fits you can play in the
- 40:30Speaker 10: National Hockey League.
- 40:32Speaker 2: But that's what I'm hearing. But that's that's what sources
- 40:35Speaker 2: are saying.
- 40:35Speaker 3: That ever said.
- 40:37Speaker 2: But that's that's the point I'm trying to make.
- 40:39Speaker 10: Right, You're out there with your top line guys who
- 40:41Speaker 10: can make things happen, and it's a little bit more
- 40:43Speaker 10: of a situational thing than than a skill thing. Granted,
- 40:47Speaker 10: you have to be an exceptional athlete, an exceptional player
- 40:50Speaker 10: to be in the National Hockey League, right, That's why
- 40:52Speaker 10: it's the best league in the world. But there are
- 40:54Speaker 10: scenarios where guys are put into positions to succeed, and
- 40:57Speaker 10: I think the Kraken deaf we take that into consideration
- 41:01Speaker 10: of calling these guys up and going.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Up and down.
- 41:05Speaker 1: So in that same vein, then we've seen Malanson at
- 41:08Speaker 1: Vister Molgard, We've saw Logan Morrison, We've seen Villie Odovinen,
- 41:12Speaker 1: we've seen Yannie Newman of the nick A Coco came
- 41:16Speaker 1: up last year for a bit, as well of the
- 41:18Speaker 1: guys the Krack, And haven't seen in your mind who's
- 41:22Speaker 1: next up? Who were you looking at on a daily
- 41:25Speaker 1: basis and saying, just give this kid a chance and
- 41:30Speaker 1: we'll never see him back down here again.
- 41:33Speaker 10: I'll say, one who has gotten a call up but
- 41:36Speaker 10: it hasn't gotten a call up in a bit is
- 41:38Speaker 10: Logan Morrison, who I think is flying under the radar
- 41:40Speaker 10: right now because of his line made success in Jagger
- 41:43Speaker 10: Fercus and how anticipated Jagger Fergus's arrival to pro hockey
- 41:46Speaker 10: has been. You know, he scored, you know, Fercus scored
- 41:49Speaker 10: by seventy five goals that last year in junior and
- 41:52Speaker 10: obviously a lot of weight on his shoulders coming into
- 41:54Speaker 10: his rookie year trying to repeat that and now he's
- 41:56Speaker 10: kind of figured things out. But Logan Morrison has kind
- 41:59Speaker 10: of flown under their radar a little bit in terms
- 42:01Speaker 10: of his his points. He has twenty goals this year,
- 42:03Speaker 10: he leads the Firebirds and goals. He's now eleventh in
- 42:07Speaker 10: league scoring. He was in TEMP yesterday thirty six points
- 42:10Speaker 10: in thirty seven games. It's just a solid, skilled player
- 42:14Speaker 10: who I think can really make an impact in the
- 42:16Speaker 10: National Hockey League have given that same opportunity, So I
- 42:19Speaker 10: wouldn't say it's it's kind of a newer guy, but
- 42:21Speaker 10: a guy who has gotten a call up to the
- 42:23Speaker 10: National Hockey League before but hasn't in a bit, so
- 42:25Speaker 10: I think he's He's kind of my pick right now.
- 42:27Speaker 3: Jagger Furcus and Tyson Jugnauth will also be gartering plenty
- 42:32Speaker 3: of attention because during the Olympic break they'll be going
- 42:34Speaker 3: to the AHL All Star Classic in Rockford this next month.
- 42:39Speaker 3: Fergus right now is the leading score on the Firebirds,
- 42:43Speaker 3: and Tyson Jugnath what he is doing to I think
- 42:47Speaker 3: open the doors for his future on the Crack and
- 42:49Speaker 3: Blue line. My goodness, twenty eight points in thirty seven
- 42:52Speaker 3: games and he's your leading rookies score right now on
- 42:57Speaker 3: the Firebirds PIV. What a separation geting Jagger Furcus and
- 43:01Speaker 3: Tyson jugnaff from making the big club and sticking there
- 43:04Speaker 3: down the road.
- 43:06Speaker 10: I think right now is the lack of roster space.
- 43:08Speaker 10: I think that's the biggest one, you know what, I
- 43:11Speaker 10: think there's there's always kind of been this conversation that
- 43:14Speaker 10: defensemen need more time than forwards to develop. And I
- 43:17Speaker 10: think that's a case by case basis, but I think
- 43:19Speaker 10: around the league, especially over the last you know, last
- 43:22Speaker 10: while once you know, development in the American Hockey League
- 43:25Speaker 10: has been more of a focus. It's always been, well,
- 43:29Speaker 10: a defenseman needs three to four years, three to five
- 43:31Speaker 10: years to develop. One thing about Tyson Jugnat, although he
- 43:35Speaker 10: you know, he's in the WHL. Last year he's the
- 43:37Speaker 10: WHL Defenseman of the Year, keep in mind that Tyson
- 43:40Speaker 10: Jugnav also played a season with the University of Wisconsin.
- 43:44Speaker 10: So he is a guy that has a little bit
- 43:47Speaker 10: more of a structure in terms of development, because college
- 43:52Speaker 10: develops a little bit differently than the WHL.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Does.
- 43:54Speaker 10: You play less games, it's more time in the gym,
- 43:57Speaker 10: more time in practice, more structure than in the w
- 44:01Speaker 10: h L in terms of how they prepare. So if
- 44:03Speaker 10: you're Tyson Dugnath, when you're exactly you're you're in the
- 44:07Speaker 10: gym for an hour a day, right for four days
- 44:10Speaker 10: a week, sometimes five days a week, depending on your schedule.
- 44:13Speaker 2: So I think that has developed.
- 44:15Speaker 10: Him in a little bit more of a mature way
- 44:17Speaker 10: where he has found his game and you're seeing a
- 44:20Speaker 10: little bit more of what he's going to be. So
- 44:23Speaker 10: I think that's what's really really nice to see about
- 44:25Speaker 10: Tyson Dugnath, and that's why I think he's kind of
- 44:28Speaker 10: ahead of where they project him to be right now
- 44:32Speaker 10: and hopefully get to see him the National Hockey League soon.
- 44:34Speaker 10: I think that's you know, he's a fun player to watch.
- 44:37Speaker 10: He makes things happen out there, and you know what,
- 44:39Speaker 10: he scores goals, he gets assists, he sets up the
- 44:42Speaker 10: power play, he does a lot of really really great
- 44:45Speaker 10: things well. And I think obviously still needs a little
- 44:48Speaker 10: more time for development, because everyone does in some way,
- 44:52Speaker 10: shape or form. But I'm excited to see for his
- 44:54Speaker 10: future because he's he's just a really fun player to
- 44:56Speaker 10: watch and he's a mature kid for his age.
- 44:59Speaker 3: Five game home Stand Underway Firebirds back in action tomorrow
- 45:03Speaker 3: night hosting the San Jose Barracuda. That's Evan Picnick joining
- 45:06Speaker 3: us PIV. Thanks so much. Once again, We're gonna break

- 45:11Speaker 3: mail bag and also three keys right here on Cracking
- 45:14Speaker 3: Weekly on ninety three three k JARFM. Ninety percent of
- 45:19Speaker 3: you say Jacob Alansen come on down once again. That
- 45:25Speaker 3: is our weekly poll question again. Vote for that at
- 45:28Speaker 3: X right now at crack an Audio Net. I want
- 45:30Speaker 3: to thank Evia Picnick for joining us here a few
- 45:32Speaker 3: moments ago. Great to hear about the progress of the
- 45:34Speaker 3: kids who are doing a ton right now at AHL
- 45:37Speaker 3: Coachella Valley. And hey, maybe it's a matter of time
- 45:40Speaker 3: before they're up here and they're producing over and over
- 45:42Speaker 3: and over as key parts of the lineup, and maybe
- 45:44Speaker 3: it's a matter of not if, but when. But it's
- 45:47Speaker 3: a wait and see thing right now. But it transitions
- 45:49Speaker 3: into our mail bag segment again. Find crack an Audio
- 45:53Speaker 3: Net at Cracking Audio Net. I'm at X by the way,
- 45:55Speaker 3: I bet and underscore Mike Everett's at the Voice Fits
- 45:58Speaker 3: Alice at Alcadis. Let's good to it right now here.
- 46:01Speaker 3: First off Zach asking, can we stop referring to the
- 46:05Speaker 3: the Ben Myers line as the fourth line? It seemed
- 46:08Speaker 3: pretty established as a third line. You have to go
- 46:11Speaker 3: back hereto The Devil's Game to find a game where
- 46:13Speaker 3: the right line had maybe more five on five time
- 46:17Speaker 3: on ice. I don't want to tease my three stars here, fellas,
- 46:20Speaker 3: but I mean it's getting more to the point now
- 46:23Speaker 3: where I even look back at the Pittsburgh game where
- 46:26Speaker 3: Ben Myers and the chaos they were producing, the Ford
- 46:30Speaker 3: checking pressure that they were producing as well getting into
- 46:33Speaker 3: the first two goals. He just can't he just can't
- 46:36Speaker 3: resist putting that line right back out there.
- 46:39Speaker 4: Yeah, this this dance we do and we do it
- 46:41Speaker 4: with coach Lane Lambert as well. About the first line,
- 46:44Speaker 4: the fourth line, who's the second line? And there are
- 46:46Speaker 4: there are no first, second, or third or fourth lines,
- 46:48Speaker 4: that just lines. I think it's interesting, you know, having
- 46:52Speaker 4: played the game, have you coached the game, and now
- 46:54Speaker 4: broadcasting the game.
- 46:55Speaker 5: There are four lines, however you want to number.
- 46:58Speaker 4: However you want to number them up to you, it's
- 47:01Speaker 4: often numbered from your highest skilled line that produces the
- 47:05Speaker 4: most over the course of the season. Is your number
- 47:07Speaker 4: one line. Your fourth line is probably the one that
- 47:09Speaker 4: contributes contributes the least. I think you can go time
- 47:12Speaker 4: on ice. That tends to be very a very easy
- 47:14Speaker 4: way to sort it out, which which three guys have
- 47:17Speaker 4: the most or least amount of time in the game. So, yes,
- 47:20Speaker 4: there are some games where the fourth line is your
- 47:22Speaker 4: best line. And I love those games because I love
- 47:24Speaker 4: a good fourth line. So you know, yeah, don't get
- 47:27Speaker 4: too caught up in it. It's just an easy way
- 47:29Speaker 4: to reference which line is which.
- 47:31Speaker 2: Yeah, for me, they're the identity of this team. I
- 47:34Speaker 2: think the way that you want to play, the way that.
- 47:36Speaker 1: We've been we just talked about it, right, this is
- 47:37Speaker 1: going to be a team that you know, they're not
- 47:40Speaker 1: going to score a lot of goals, So what else
- 47:41Speaker 1: can you do?
- 47:42Speaker 5: Defend?
- 47:42Speaker 1: Hit, you know, skate, hustle, work hard, everything that that
- 47:47Speaker 1: fourth line has been able to do. And oh, by
- 47:49Speaker 1: the way, they've been chipping in some offense as well.
- 47:52Speaker 1: So I mean I would call them the identity line.
- 47:55Speaker 1: I think Lane has a lot of trust, excuse me,
- 47:58Speaker 1: in that line. I know that he likes, you know,
- 48:00Speaker 1: Ben Myers and Ryan Winterton and Jacob Allanson and ty
- 48:06Speaker 1: Carha that combination of those four guys. You know, that
- 48:11Speaker 1: is the type of identity you want this team to
- 48:13Speaker 1: play with. And like I said before earlier in the show,
- 48:16Speaker 1: if that line can can filter through, that mentality can
- 48:21Speaker 1: filter through the rest of this roster, this team is going.
- 48:23Speaker 2: To be in a good spot.
- 48:25Speaker 3: I'm gonna get to two questions here and kind of
- 48:27Speaker 3: lump them into one answer because I think they're they're
- 48:29Speaker 3: both related and they're both connected here, and we'll just
- 48:31Speaker 3: kind of rattle off our thoughts here on this, and
- 48:33Speaker 3: some of this goes back to our first segment and
- 48:35Speaker 3: what we were talking about as far as the young kids.
- 48:37Speaker 3: Tyler asking why is there a delay in trading expiring
- 48:40Speaker 3: contracts a team has proven with wins and losses that
- 48:43Speaker 3: players like Jacob Allanson and ty Karta are more productive
- 48:47Speaker 3: than others, and then Phil asking why to mot someone
- 48:50Speaker 3: like Malanson when he was lighting a fire here on
- 48:53Speaker 3: this team. To answer Tyler's first question, I think for me,
- 48:57Speaker 3: it's a wait and see approach, and I think maybe
- 48:59Speaker 3: that that we've seen, you know, I think the tip
- 49:00Speaker 3: of the iceberg here with the key for sherwood trade
- 49:03Speaker 3: from Vancouver to San Jose. But I think also, what
- 49:06Speaker 3: Phil is saying is what a lot of fans are thinking.
- 49:10Speaker 3: And again you can go to my account of Twitter
- 49:12Speaker 3: and x and look at the replies here from the
- 49:14Speaker 3: last roughly twenty four hours here on this matter. I think,
- 49:17Speaker 3: what we know, there's a simple answer here to this,
- 49:20Speaker 3: and we saw it coming. The Kraken are limited on
- 49:23Speaker 3: players who've got to pass through waivers. Malanson's one of
- 49:27Speaker 3: the few who are a waiver exempt, so you don't
- 49:29Speaker 3: lose him once you send him down. The only other
- 49:31Speaker 3: three Berkeley Catton, Shane Wright, and Ryan Winterton. So there's
- 49:37Speaker 3: a strong risk that you take with putting someone else through.
- 49:40Speaker 3: I use say ty Krci as an example. And then
- 49:43Speaker 3: maybe then after that do you wait on a trade, Well,
- 49:46Speaker 3: that's definitely a wait and see approach. Recently, Jason botterol
- 49:50Speaker 3: he wants to improve this team. The playoffs were a
- 49:52Speaker 3: part of the conversation, and he wants to get Matt Evenier's,
- 49:55Speaker 3: Shane Wright, Berkeley Catton more support. The playoffs can certainly
- 49:59Speaker 3: help them in their career development as well. So who's in,
- 50:02Speaker 3: who's out a month from now, a week from now,
- 50:05Speaker 3: who knows. But this is a pure numbers game. The
- 50:08Speaker 3: Cracker I'm playing with right now.
- 50:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna tap the sign. It takes two to tango
- 50:13Speaker 1: when it comes to trades. And I've said it before.
- 50:16Speaker 1: I would love nothing more than for Jason Moshrel to
- 50:20Speaker 1: offer up three seventh round picks to Colorado for Nathan McKinnon.
- 50:25Speaker 1: Not gonna happen, right, And I always say.
- 50:29Speaker 3: The EA Sports Game has rejected your trade.
- 50:33Speaker 1: And you gotta work the problem backwards, right, you talk
- 50:36Speaker 1: about the expiring vet contracts and all that. The deal's
- 50:39Speaker 1: got to make sense, you know what I mean? Like,
- 50:43Speaker 1: if i'm you know, Jason Robertson, I'm gonna say that. Okay,
- 50:47Speaker 1: Jason Robertson's a name that we've heard. I read an
- 50:50Speaker 1: article last week that said he wants twelve million dollars.
- 50:53Speaker 1: He wants ranting in money, otherwise he might demand a trade.
- 50:57Speaker 6: Now, this is based.
- 50:57Speaker 1: Off off of the article that this author wrote, So
- 51:01Speaker 1: this is nothing that he has done.
- 51:04Speaker 6: But this is just based off of this article. Well,
- 51:07Speaker 6: if you're the.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Dallas Stars and you look at the Seattle crack and
- 51:11Speaker 1: roster for Jason Robertson, who are you going to want?
- 51:14Speaker 1: You need to work that problem backwards. Jason Robertson, not
- 51:17Speaker 1: even is he twenty five, twenty four, five six ish, right,
- 51:21Speaker 1: he's one of your He's one of the top, if
- 51:23Speaker 1: not the top scoring American player in the NHL this year,
- 51:27Speaker 1: consistently a thirty five goal player, consistently an eighty ninety
- 51:33Speaker 1: plus point player. You're going to have to give up
- 51:37Speaker 1: that much value for Jason Robertson. You've got four first
- 51:41Speaker 1: round picks, so it's going to take at least one,
- 51:43Speaker 1: maybe two of those. And then you start looking at
- 51:45Speaker 1: your prospect pool. Who won the prospect pool? Are you
- 51:48Speaker 1: willing to give up? Then you look at your current
- 51:50Speaker 1: live roster, Well, who won your current live roster?
- 51:53Speaker 6: Are you willing to give up?
- 51:54Speaker 1: The Kraken are going to enter a phase here in
- 51:55Speaker 1: the next couple of months, I think before the deadline
- 51:58Speaker 1: and definitely coming up into this where the first generation
- 52:02Speaker 1: of cracking players will not be here next year.
- 52:05Speaker 6: It's just it's it's a fact.
- 52:06Speaker 1: There's a there's a number of players on this roster
- 52:08Speaker 1: whose contracts are up, they're getting older for whatever reason.
- 52:11Speaker 6: A lot of fan favorites aren't gonna be here.
- 52:13Speaker 2: So I think a lot of the.
- 52:14Speaker 1: Fans are starting to realize that man, the guy that
- 52:16Speaker 1: really got me into this put to this. You know,
- 52:18Speaker 1: I was a big Mike Benton fan coming up and
- 52:20Speaker 1: playing in the NHL. Well, now Mike Ben's contract is
- 52:23Speaker 1: up and Mike Ben's going off.
- 52:24Speaker 3: To fans callery fans, fans, I appreciate it.
- 52:29Speaker 1: But yeah, but but but you know what I mean, right,
- 52:31Speaker 1: so you're gonna start seeing a lot of these guys
- 52:34Speaker 1: get traded. So I say all that to say, yes,
- 52:37Speaker 1: I would love for some of the contracts to get
- 52:40Speaker 1: moved out and your.
- 52:42Speaker 2: Upgrading team, but it takes two to tango.
- 52:44Speaker 1: And who knows, you know, Jason Boshell could have been
- 52:46Speaker 1: making all these phone calls across the across the league
- 52:51Speaker 1: and someone could have been like, you know what, thanks
- 52:54Speaker 1: but no thanks. Who knows he could have he he
- 52:55Speaker 1: could have potentially been offering you know, thirty one other tracks.
- 53:00Speaker 6: I say, hey, thirty one other teams. Here you go,
- 53:02Speaker 6: I'll give you X for y eh.
- 53:04Speaker 2: Thanks. I'm all good, though, so you never know what
- 53:06Speaker 2: has happened.
- 53:07Speaker 3: All right, three Stars time now and I'll begin first
- 53:10Speaker 3: off with Ellie Tolvenan and maybe not the prettiest game
- 53:14Speaker 3: I think numbers wise, a lot of the guys that
- 53:16Speaker 3: have the prettiest game as far as plus minus may
- 53:18Speaker 3: be if you want to really even account for that stat.
- 53:20Speaker 3: But I mean Ellie Tolbnan, ever since they made the
- 53:23Speaker 3: roster moves here in the last week or so before
- 53:26Speaker 3: the Boston game, thirteen hits leads the Kraken. We know
- 53:29Speaker 3: what he does when he shoots the puck, we also
- 53:32Speaker 3: know what he does when he plays physically. Leads this
- 53:35Speaker 3: team right now with thirteen hits, two goals as well
- 53:38Speaker 3: in a tough stretch, and the more and more that
- 53:40Speaker 3: you can find open ice for him on the power
- 53:43Speaker 3: play like they found for him at Pittsburgh where he
- 53:46Speaker 3: just launched that absolute missile right paste, ARDT. Skinner, you're
- 53:50Speaker 3: going to be in business offensively, and so I like
- 53:53Speaker 3: what Ellie Tolvenan is doing when he can play physically,
- 53:56Speaker 3: when he can also find ways to search for open
- 54:00Speaker 3: eyes and find a way to get himself in good
- 54:03Speaker 3: position to use his shot. Those were moments that mattered
- 54:06Speaker 3: a lot to me. I go back as well of
- 54:08Speaker 3: the Boston game. Another snipe that he had right past
- 54:11Speaker 3: Jeremy's swiman when he played that one off the boards.
- 54:14Speaker 3: It's a shot like his that can find the smallest
- 54:17Speaker 3: kind of holes that are exposed by goaltenders that make
- 54:20Speaker 3: a big difference right now for this offense. So Ellie
- 54:22Speaker 3: Tolbenen and what's been really a rough last week here
- 54:25Speaker 3: for this team in four games is my third star.
- 54:28Speaker 3: My second star is Ben Myers, and I think defining
- 54:32Speaker 3: the kind of energy and fire this team is looking
- 54:35Speaker 3: for is something that he personifies. And I mean again,
- 54:38Speaker 3: I go back to this lane. Lambert couldn't resist putting
- 54:41Speaker 3: him out there. It was certainly justified and it just
- 54:44Speaker 3: seems as if no matter who plays with Ben Myers,
- 54:47Speaker 3: you're finding a way to generate energy pressure here with
- 54:50Speaker 3: the forward check and eventually results. He factored in on
- 54:52Speaker 3: both goals the first two goals the crack and scored
- 54:56Speaker 3: against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and then the face off circle
- 54:58Speaker 3: as well against a good Pittsburgh team, nine of thirteen
- 55:03Speaker 3: against Sidney Crosby won four of six face offs as well.
- 55:07Speaker 3: Time on ice. It's creeping up now. Fourteen fifty five
- 55:11Speaker 3: against Utah. Ben Myers was my second star of the week.
- 55:14Speaker 3: My first star is Brandon Montour and getting him back.
- 55:17Speaker 3: I think has been huge here for this defense. Getting
- 55:19Speaker 3: him back has been huge as well for the power play.
- 55:22Speaker 3: He had an assist in his first game back against Boston.
- 55:24Speaker 3: But I even think when you saw a game get
- 55:27Speaker 3: as chippy and for as well, the Kracking were playing
- 55:30Speaker 3: and you had to admit that the Krack and we're
- 55:31Speaker 3: playing pretty well. Despite being down two nothing against Boston,
- 55:35Speaker 3: the Bruins tried to raise the stakes physically emotionally as well.
- 55:39Speaker 3: Montour was there at every step of the way to
- 55:42Speaker 3: make sure the Kraken were in the fight physically and emotionally.
- 55:47Speaker 3: It was pretty apparent with the slash he took, then
- 55:50Speaker 3: taking some chirps as well from Jeremy swimming and elsewhere.
- 55:53Speaker 3: We're seeing the kind of emotional leadership that Brandon Montour
- 55:56Speaker 3: can give this team, not just offensively but also all
- 55:59Speaker 3: across board, and I think you're seeing some really good
- 56:02Speaker 3: results out of them. Brandon mont towards my first Star
- 56:05Speaker 3: of the week.
- 56:05Speaker 4: Yeah, Mike, I agree with everything you said there. Interestingly,
- 56:08Speaker 4: I only had one carryover from year three. My third
- 56:11Speaker 4: star is that carryover Ben Myers's goal and assist in
- 56:14Speaker 4: his last five As you said, twelve to fifteen minutes
- 56:16Speaker 4: of time on ice, and it is increasing even in
- 56:20Speaker 4: this plus minus, and that's not that's hard to do
- 56:24Speaker 4: based on that record over the over the last five
- 56:26Speaker 4: one three one, you know, a high of fourteen to
- 56:30Speaker 4: fifty five in the Utah game. So Lane Lambert is
- 56:33Speaker 4: absolutely starting to trust him more on the ice. Not
- 56:35Speaker 4: to mention three shots on goal. My second star is
- 56:38Speaker 4: every two goals one assistant his last five six shots
- 56:44Speaker 4: on goals, So he's firing the puck a lot, which
- 56:45Speaker 4: you want from your captain and a guy with that
- 56:48Speaker 4: kind of shot.
- 56:49Speaker 5: So I liked that a lot.
- 56:50Speaker 4: And then my first star, I'm going to give to
- 56:52Speaker 4: Jared mccannon two goals to assist an eleven shots on
- 56:56Speaker 4: goal over that five you over those five games, you
- 56:59Speaker 4: want nineteen shooting as much as possible every single game.
- 57:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I had a hard time with Alan, you and
- 57:06Speaker 1: I were kind of in lockstep. But Mike, your three stars,
- 57:10Speaker 1: I was wanting to make all of them my number
- 57:14Speaker 1: one star, my number three star, but I think for
- 57:17Speaker 1: me my number three star Ellie TOLVD and for the
- 57:20Speaker 1: reasons that you said, just the way that he has
- 57:24Speaker 1: been finding ways to either generate he's been hitting, he's
- 57:28Speaker 1: been shooting, he's been fighting for pugs. You know that
- 57:31Speaker 1: battle level that he's on that he has the last week,
- 57:35Speaker 1: I mean more than the last week, but in particularly
- 57:37Speaker 1: for this conversation, last week has been has been rock solid.
- 57:40Speaker 1: I think, like Al said, I'm gonna go with Jordan
- 57:43Speaker 1: Eberly is my number two star, continuing the second best
- 57:46Speaker 1: start of his career. He's found the fountain of youth,
- 57:50Speaker 1: if you will, that is continuing to help drag this team,
- 57:53Speaker 1: put him on his back in big moments. And then
- 57:57Speaker 1: Jared mccannon again, I like the line that he's playing
- 58:01Speaker 1: on and he's now in twenty four games play.
- 58:05Speaker 2: Let me pull this up real quick.
- 58:07Speaker 1: Twenty four games played this season for Jared McCann. He's
- 58:12Speaker 1: got points in seventeen of those twenty four games.
- 58:16Speaker 2: So I mean he.
- 58:18Speaker 1: Is consistently putting this team on his back, scoring when
- 58:25Speaker 1: it matters. That shot that he has, we know what
- 58:28Speaker 1: it can do. So for me, those are my three stars.
- 58:31Speaker 3: All right, gonna be a fun one tomorrow night once
- 58:33Speaker 3: again National TV. He's got the Islander game. We're gonna
- 58:36Speaker 3: be your only local source for broadcast coverage and keep
- 58:39Speaker 3: no puck drop scheduled a half hour earlier than usual.
- 58:43Speaker 3: It'll be quite a bit past six thirty, but that's
- 58:46Speaker 3: on the schedule. Here we're on air at six Anaheim,
- 58:49Speaker 3: coming up at home on Friday, New Jersey at home Sunday,
- 58:52Speaker 3: twelve pm faceoff. Take note to clear the way here
- 58:56Speaker 3: for Seahawks playoff football and then the Capitol's right back
- 58:59Speaker 3: here as well, come up this next Tuesday. That's all
- 59:01Speaker 3: the time we have again, big thanks ever it now
- 59:04Speaker 3: of course for the usual roundtable. Also big thank you
- 59:06Speaker 3: to Evan Pivnik. Talk with you tomorrow for the Kracking
- 59:09Speaker 3: and Islanders and this is Cracking Weekly on ninety three
- 59:12Speaker 3: three kJ RFM
