Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: In this podcast, we discuss unsolved cases that may be
- 0:04Speaker 1: violent in nature in an effort to keep the cases
- 0:07Speaker 1: in the public eye and continue the stories of the victims.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Those who choose to or choose against participating are not
- 0:14Speaker 1: indicative of involvement in any crimes we discuss. Listener discretion
- 0:18Speaker 1: is advised. Welcome to episode two of Tragedy, a true
- 0:39Speaker 1: crime podcast. I'm Elisa, my name is Michael, and in
- 0:43Speaker 1: this episode we will be sharing an opportunity that we
- 0:46Speaker 1: had to speak with Robin Stevens. Robin is the eldest
- 0:51Speaker 1: sister of Jody Kilgore, who was the victim of this homicide,
- 0:55Speaker 1: and this was an opportunity for us to share with
- 0:59Speaker 1: you you the impact, very close up impact that this
- 1:04Speaker 1: unsolved homicide has had on the victim's family.
- 1:08Speaker 2: One thing that I found particularly interesting about this interview
- 1:11Speaker 2: is again how forthcoming she was, and she gave us
- 1:16Speaker 2: a really good insight of how it affected her family
- 1:20Speaker 2: and how she's really been trying to put a lot
- 1:22Speaker 2: forward to get more information regarding this crime and also
- 1:27Speaker 2: really find out what happened.
- 1:29Speaker 1: And before you listen in, we just want to express
- 1:32Speaker 1: our deepest gratitude for Robin and her family and her
- 1:36Speaker 1: willingness to be so forthcoming with this conversation with us.
- 1:56Speaker 3: All right, thank you for joining us today.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Today I'm going to be speaking with Robin. And Robin
- 2:02Speaker 1: is the sister of George, Joseph Kilgour and George. I
- 2:09Speaker 1: believe he went by Jody, right, is that what everybody
- 2:12Speaker 1: calls him, Robin?
- 2:13Speaker 4: Yes, okay, okay, so I we will refer to him
- 2:19Speaker 4: as Jody. And we're really just here with Robin because.
- 2:25Speaker 1: We just want to get Robin's.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Story about Jody.
- 2:27Speaker 1: We want to hear all about Jody and help to
- 2:30Speaker 1: just get this story out. So thank you for joining us, Robin.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 2:37Speaker 2: All right, So the big thing we want to start
- 2:40Speaker 2: with is just number one what's important to know today
- 2:45Speaker 2: is you know, we really appreciate you reaching out to
- 2:48Speaker 2: us and you know, telling your story. But also you know,
- 2:52Speaker 2: we don't have to tell everything today. You know, we
- 2:54Speaker 2: if something comes up later, we can certainly interject later.
- 2:57Speaker 2: You know, you have access to us anytime you want
- 3:00Speaker 2: now as we're kind of developing this podcast.
- 3:03Speaker 5: But as a start, let's just tell tell us about you.
- 3:06Speaker 5: What would you like to share?
- 3:09Speaker 3: Well, I'm Jodie's oldest sister, and I'm two years older
- 3:18Speaker 3: than him, and I worked in law enforcement all my life.
- 3:27Speaker 3: It seems like I'm retired. I'm single mom. I adopted uh,
- 3:36Speaker 3: my niece's child, and he's six years old, so it's
- 3:45Speaker 3: kind of rough on this sixty three year old. But
- 3:51Speaker 3: that's about it. I do a lot of volunteer work.
- 3:56Speaker 3: I just loved being able to get back to my community.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Awesome. Tell us about law enforcement. What did you do
- 4:08Speaker 5: and where'd you work?
- 4:11Speaker 3: Well, started out right out of high school at the
- 4:15Speaker 3: Wacola County Sheriff's Department in nineteen eighty and I worked there.
- 4:21Speaker 3: I started out as a records clerk. I was doing
- 4:30Speaker 3: warrants and kpiuses trying, you know, trying to get them
- 4:37Speaker 3: served and get people in to take care of their
- 4:43Speaker 3: their warrants and kpses. After that, I became a auxiliary officer,
- 4:54Speaker 3: and I became a dispatcher. I worked in dispatch from
- 5:02Speaker 3: I believe it was eighty one until eighty seven when
- 5:06Speaker 3: I went I left for Color excuse me. I left
- 5:11Speaker 3: Wall Color County Sheriff's Office and went to the Florida
- 5:14Speaker 3: Department of Law Enforcement, where I worked excuse me, I'm sorry,
- 5:21Speaker 3: as a junior officer, which is the same as a
- 5:26Speaker 3: dispatcher sort of. We were just not first responders as
- 5:30Speaker 3: the Sheriff's office was. We assisted, We provided assistance to
- 5:40Speaker 3: local law enforcement as well as other state agencies and
- 5:47Speaker 3: the Feds. Then I worked there, and then after that
- 5:56Speaker 3: I became a crime intelligence and was and I worked
- 6:05Speaker 3: in the Sex Offender and Predator Unit as an absconder analyst.
- 6:11Speaker 3: We I was a government analyst and we worked on
- 6:20Speaker 3: We worked with of course local, state and federal agencies
- 6:24Speaker 3: to apprehend these sex defender and predators that were not
- 6:29Speaker 3: complying with Florida law.
- 6:34Speaker 5: I'm not gonna lie you, Robin.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I'm listening to this and we're taking notes as well,
- 6:37Speaker 2: and I find you fascinating.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Is really interesting.
- 6:43Speaker 2: I had no idea how much law enforcement background you had,
- 6:45Speaker 2: so I'm really happy this came up.
- 6:48Speaker 5: So that's that's that's a pretty amazing background.
- 6:51Speaker 3: So yeah, I retired with thirty two years in law enforcement.
- 6:56Speaker 3: So Athena heard it and.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Saw all I can imagine, especially when I'm looking at
- 7:04Speaker 2: this pedigree here.
- 7:05Speaker 5: You know, that's that's an amazing background.
- 7:07Speaker 2: So let's uh, let's get into Jody. Tell us just
- 7:10Speaker 2: talk about Joe. What do you want to tell us
- 7:13Speaker 2: about him?
- 7:16Speaker 3: Well, the biggest thing that I want people to know
- 7:19Speaker 3: about Jody is just how much he loved helping people.
- 7:28Speaker 3: My brother would get out of bed in the middle
- 7:31Speaker 3: of the night to go to someone's house to fix
- 7:35Speaker 3: the electricity we had. He had friends, customers and everything
- 7:43Speaker 3: that knew that Jody would drop everything and come if
- 7:49Speaker 3: they needed. He was the type that would give you
- 7:54Speaker 3: literally the shirt off his back. He he was a goofball.
- 8:06Speaker 3: He was always coming up. He could come up with
- 8:10Speaker 3: some crazy stuff and come back with with punch signs
- 8:16Speaker 3: and everything that. He was funny and he more than anything,
- 8:22Speaker 3: he loved kids. Susan, his his wife, worked at a
- 8:32Speaker 3: pre K program here in the county and at times
- 8:38Speaker 3: Jody would go by there just to be with the
- 8:44Speaker 3: kids to have fun. And they loved him. I mean
- 8:48Speaker 3: they'd always ask Susan, you know, when's Jody coming back?
- 8:52Speaker 3: When's mister Jody coming back? And I loved that about him.
- 9:00Speaker 3: You know, I hated that my son doesn't know no,
- 9:06Speaker 3: you know that he didn't get the chance to know Jody.
- 9:10Speaker 3: But I know Jody's smiling down at me because he
- 9:13Speaker 3: knew I could never have any kids of my own.
- 9:17Speaker 3: But it's it's just amazing the man that he was,
- 9:30Speaker 3: the father that he was, and just you know, I mean,
- 9:39Speaker 3: I know it make it sound like he was perfect,
- 9:41Speaker 3: but he and he wasn't. None of us are. Yeah,
- 9:50Speaker 3: all of us have our flaws. And you know, there
- 9:52Speaker 3: was only one perfect man that walked this earth, and
- 9:54Speaker 3: that was Jesus so and I don't think any of
- 9:58Speaker 3: us can live up to that standard. But he was
- 10:03Speaker 3: a hard work man. I know him and his partner Toby,
- 10:09Speaker 3: they they weren't long hours. And one thing that I
- 10:18Speaker 3: really admired about Jody was his commitment to his job.
- 10:25Speaker 3: He believed in standing on his name and he would
- 10:30Speaker 3: never ever cut corners. He he actually lost a big
- 10:36Speaker 3: job because a contractor was cutting corners and wanted Jody
- 10:44Speaker 3: to cut corners and Jody told him no, sir. He said, uh,
- 10:48Speaker 3: my name will not go on there. I stand by
- 10:52Speaker 3: my work and I will only use new products and
- 10:59Speaker 3: I'm out cutting corners anywhere. And I always admired that
- 11:05Speaker 3: about him because he wanted the best for his customers.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Tell us what happened from your perspective, you know, kind
- 11:28Speaker 2: of getting into that day, you know when this tragedy happened.
- 11:31Speaker 3: Well, I I was working at that time as a
- 11:36Speaker 3: nanny up in Smith Creek, and so I was kind
- 11:41Speaker 3: of far off and the people I were I was
- 11:51Speaker 3: a nanny for. I came home and they told me,
- 12:01Speaker 3: you know, that we needed to go over to my mom's.
- 12:06Speaker 3: My mom actually was out of town when this happened.
- 12:13Speaker 3: I think once when she got caught. It was like
- 12:18Speaker 3: I think she was in Colorado or something, and they
- 12:21Speaker 3: immediately turned around and came back. I did not. I
- 12:26Speaker 3: chose to go the next day when my mom was home.
- 12:32Speaker 3: I wanted to be there for her. And after the
- 12:40Speaker 3: people that I was being in eighty four got off work,
- 12:43Speaker 3: they took me. They insisted on taking me over to
- 12:47Speaker 3: my mom's, and it was just I could I just
- 12:54Speaker 3: couldn't believe it, you know, I mean, I just could
- 12:56Speaker 3: not believe I was in the I was. I was
- 13:04Speaker 3: just kind of numb and kind of still known to
- 13:07Speaker 3: this day about it because I can't believe why or
- 13:13Speaker 3: you know, what took place. My mom and then went
- 13:22Speaker 3: to the Sheriff's office that morning. You know, to find
- 13:28Speaker 3: out exactly what all took place. The only thing that
- 13:32Speaker 3: I was told was that Jody had been murdered in
- 13:40Speaker 3: his yard, and I just I just couldn't believe it.
- 13:46Speaker 3: I was like, there's no way. Of course, then you
- 13:51Speaker 3: start with thinking who in the world would do something
- 13:55Speaker 3: like this to Jody. So I tried to stop my
- 14:03Speaker 3: mind from doing that because I didn't want to get overwhelmed.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I wanted to be there for my mom and be
- 14:10Speaker 3: strong for her because I knew that I knew that
- 14:17Speaker 3: she would I wouldn't be able to handle this. But
- 14:23Speaker 3: the next three days and everything, you know, making arrangements
- 14:31Speaker 3: for the funeral, and and just saw that it it
- 14:36Speaker 3: just didn't seem real. I mean, I thought, why are
- 14:41Speaker 3: we doing this? You know, I just want to I
- 14:44Speaker 3: want to see my brother, you know, I want to
- 14:48Speaker 3: I want to talk to him, you know, and sometimes,
- 14:53Speaker 3: you know, I stop and think, I let me just
- 14:58Speaker 3: talk to Jodie, you know, asked Jody about this, especially
- 15:02Speaker 3: when there's electrical problems. I wanted. I wanted to say, hey, Jody,
- 15:08Speaker 3: tell me how to do this, and he'd always tell me,
- 15:12Speaker 3: you know, Robin, you don't need to be fooling around
- 15:16Speaker 3: with wires that can kill you. And I could every
- 15:22Speaker 3: time I do something that involving electricity, you know, I
- 15:28Speaker 3: could hear his voice telling me that over and over.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Imagine that, Yeah, yeah, don't be doing that.
- 15:35Speaker 5: You don't know how to do this.
- 15:37Speaker 3: I told we're alike, Jody. I you know, I know
- 15:42Speaker 3: electrical stuff too. But you know, he was right, I
- 15:46Speaker 3: shouldn't be doing that.
- 15:51Speaker 2: One of the things we wanted to ask about was,
- 15:55Speaker 2: you know, we were watching a interview that was done
- 15:58Speaker 2: by Katie Kaplan yes years ago, and there was a
- 16:03Speaker 2: statement that you made that made us really curious where
- 16:06Speaker 2: you said Jody didn't seem like a self or you know,
- 16:11Speaker 2: wasn't going out fishing anymore and was just off.
- 16:16Speaker 5: What did you What did you mean by that? What
- 16:17Speaker 5: kind of things were you noticing?
- 16:35Speaker 3: Well, him and Susan we're having some problems and it
- 16:49Speaker 3: was taking a toll on Jody. He just I don't know,
- 16:54Speaker 3: it's kind of like he just was not interested in
- 16:57Speaker 3: anything anymore. Uh. I would ask him, you know, when's
- 17:07Speaker 3: the last time you went fishing, you know, and he
- 17:12Speaker 3: he would he would call me to come get him
- 17:17Speaker 3: and take him to pay bills and stuff like that,
- 17:20Speaker 3: and I just I would notice just the difference in him.
- 17:30Speaker 3: You know, I knew, I knew they were having problems.
- 17:33Speaker 3: I knew the stuff around that, but they had gotten back,
- 17:40Speaker 3: you know, together and everything, and I thought things were
- 17:44Speaker 3: going great. But you know, you never know. Sure, yeah,
- 17:52Speaker 3: I'm sorry, my son just woke up and you're fine,
- 17:56Speaker 3: asked me, are you talking to yourself?
- 18:01Speaker 5: Probably seems like that from this perspective, that's true.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know it was it was unlike him
- 18:11Speaker 3: to be down and depressed, and you know it, the
- 18:20Speaker 3: last time I saw him was that I think it
- 18:25Speaker 3: was Cayden's birthday party that Sunday. It was either Saturday
- 18:35Speaker 3: or Sunday. I'd come home for the birthday party, and
- 18:44Speaker 3: there was just so many things that I wish i'd
- 18:47Speaker 3: have said. I know, the last words I spoke to
- 18:53Speaker 3: him was I love you. But it just I don't know.
- 19:01Speaker 3: It just they let you know, Susan was ready to
- 19:06Speaker 3: go in the middle of the party and or towards
- 19:11Speaker 3: the end of the party, and you know, they just left.
- 19:18Speaker 3: And that was the last time I saw him. And
- 19:27Speaker 3: you know, I don't know, I mean, he I don't
- 19:30Speaker 3: know what all was going on with them. Not to
- 19:36Speaker 3: get too personal, you know, but of course nobody knows
- 19:44Speaker 3: what goes on behind closed doors anyway, but just that,
- 19:52Speaker 3: just the the timing of his death and everything and
- 19:59Speaker 3: and all was just kind of, I don't know, it
- 20:03Speaker 3: was weird to me.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's one of those things that, yeah,
- 20:08Speaker 2: I mean, when it comes to behind closers never know.
- 20:10Speaker 2: But the behavior changing was pretty interesting to us when
- 20:15Speaker 2: we saw your statement.
- 20:16Speaker 5: And of course we've done lots of.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Just research and public records, and what we've found kind
- 20:22Speaker 2: of interesting about the case is there's not a lot
- 20:25Speaker 2: of people who talk about it that are that are.
- 20:28Speaker 5: Willing to talk about it.
- 20:29Speaker 2: And of course my question is always why is that.
- 20:32Speaker 2: I think everyone, you know, should at least be in
- 20:34Speaker 2: the situation where we want to solve and figure out
- 20:37Speaker 2: what happened. So and again, it's one of the reasons
- 20:39Speaker 2: that we started really reaching out and you know, trying
- 20:41Speaker 2: to get people's stories. So so it's really interesting you
- 20:44Speaker 2: saw those changes. You know, definitely some things going on
- 20:48Speaker 2: behind the scenes. Maybe that's related, maybe it's not related.
- 20:52Speaker 5: You know.
- 20:53Speaker 2: One of the things we found also kind of interesting
- 20:55Speaker 2: about the story as we started digging through is there's
- 21:00Speaker 2: tons of rumors, there's tons of theories.
- 21:05Speaker 5: You know, what, do you have any theories?
- 21:08Speaker 2: I'm curious your perspective, because again, this interview is about you,
- 21:10Speaker 2: not me and what we found. It's you know, what
- 21:13Speaker 2: theories have you heard or what things theories.
- 21:15Speaker 5: Are you interested in? Well, we don't have to talk
- 21:34Speaker 5: about anything you're not comfortable with either.
- 21:43Speaker 3: It's hard because you don't want to sound like you're
- 21:47Speaker 3: accusing anyone of anything. But I mean, the first thing
- 21:57Speaker 3: that popped in my head is the Lord, what is
- 22:06Speaker 3: what has Susan done? And that that hurt for me
- 22:14Speaker 3: to even think that, because I mean, I love Susan.
- 22:18Speaker 3: I I truly do love her. I did not like
- 22:21Speaker 3: her in the beginning, but that's just because I didn't
- 22:25Speaker 3: think anybody was good enough for my brother.
- 22:28Speaker 2: A lot of people feel that way when it comes
- 22:30Speaker 2: up dating their brothers and sisters. I know I certainly
- 22:35Speaker 2: felt that way with my sisters growing up. I didn't
- 22:37Speaker 2: like any of their boyfriends.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's just one of those things. I think
- 22:44Speaker 3: that being protective older sister, I you know, I wanted
- 22:51Speaker 3: the best for my brother, you know, and at the time.
- 22:57Speaker 3: I didn't think Susan Susan was, you know, I mean
- 23:05Speaker 3: they had a they had a lot of great, great
- 23:10Speaker 3: years with the kids and everything. And then after the
- 23:17Speaker 3: kids got up and grown and on their own, I mean,
- 23:21Speaker 3: Chet stayed there for a while, going to school and
- 23:25Speaker 3: working in Tallahassee. It just seemed to change. Well, of course,
- 23:34Speaker 3: everything pops in your head and you hear things. There
- 23:38Speaker 3: was a lots lots of rumors going around. One was
- 23:47Speaker 3: there was a guy that got out of prison early
- 23:50Speaker 3: because he had brain cancer that lived down the road.
- 23:54Speaker 3: And somebody had mentioned that Dory Susan had small dogs,
- 24:02Speaker 3: and somebody had mentioned that that guy's dog had come
- 24:07Speaker 3: into the yard, and you know, Jody told him basically
- 24:10Speaker 3: to keep his dog at home because he had little
- 24:13Speaker 3: dogs and all. And I don't know, you know of
- 24:19Speaker 3: any other altercations, but there was a theory that maybe
- 24:25Speaker 3: the dog came back, Jody got mad and was talking
- 24:29Speaker 3: to the guy. I don't know. I've heard so many
- 24:36Speaker 3: things I heard that, you know, Oh, it was just
- 24:42Speaker 3: a complete stranger that Jody didn't know that that just
- 24:50Speaker 3: showed up in his yard. I do not believe that theory.
- 24:56Speaker 3: I some of the other things that went through my
- 25:00Speaker 3: mind is did his partner, Toby, did they get in
- 25:05Speaker 3: an argument? Did they did? They were they fighting over things?
- 25:10Speaker 3: The business took hit, you know, and the jobs were few,
- 25:16Speaker 3: and I, you know, I that went through my mind.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Oh maybe they were fighting over money, or they were
- 25:27Speaker 3: you know, or maybe they were arguing about the business
- 25:30Speaker 3: staying afloat or whatever. But I don't know. I Toby
- 25:38Speaker 3: was like a brother, did Jodie. They were more than
- 25:44Speaker 3: business partners, they were friends. They you know, they had
- 25:53Speaker 3: each other's back. And I I personally, I don't think
- 26:03Speaker 3: Toby had anything to do with it. He was the
- 26:07Speaker 3: one that found Jody. He had gone Toby worked out
- 26:12Speaker 3: a lot and was always in the gym, and he
- 26:15Speaker 3: had gone to the gym that morning and come home
- 26:19Speaker 3: and took a shower and got ready and everything, and
- 26:23Speaker 3: then come and picked Jody up. And that's when he
- 26:28Speaker 3: found Jody and he called n'm on one, you know,
- 26:34Speaker 3: just frantically, you know, But I just I can't wrap
- 26:44Speaker 3: my mind around around that that theory.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Yeah, we've we've heard about that one too, and we
- 26:53Speaker 2: were really struggling with that one. You know, we heard
- 26:56Speaker 2: you know that Toby was you know, considered like a
- 26:59Speaker 2: prime person that a lot of people considered. And you know,
- 27:04Speaker 2: I'm struggling with you know, obviously, this murder would have
- 27:07Speaker 2: been you know a little messy in certain regards, and so,
- 27:13Speaker 2: you know, and he's the one that called nine to
- 27:14Speaker 2: one one, he was the one that was there when
- 27:16Speaker 2: the police department or sheriffs farm showed up. There would
- 27:20Speaker 2: have been a lot of blood evidence on Toby for
- 27:24Speaker 2: for how for how you know, Jody was murdered. And
- 27:29Speaker 2: I just feel like if if if Toby was truly
- 27:32Speaker 2: a suspect, I mean, he would have been picked up
- 27:36Speaker 2: in a day, I mean. And so that's one that's
- 27:40Speaker 2: one of those theories that we kind of you know,
- 27:43Speaker 2: between Elise and I, we've kind of dismissed because I'm like,
- 27:45Speaker 2: there were so much, you know, so much would have
- 27:48Speaker 2: had to have happened for him to clean up, be
- 27:51Speaker 2: seen going back and forth, you know, and that the
- 27:55Speaker 2: likelihood of that happening is so slim. So I can't
- 27:59Speaker 2: get my head around that one either. So I'm with
- 28:01Speaker 2: you on that. Anything else before moving to move on.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Well, you know, being working in law enforcement and everything
- 28:11Speaker 3: and working on helping the agents on different cases and everything.
- 28:17Speaker 3: You know, one of the things that that pops in
- 28:20Speaker 3: your mind to begin with is you look at family,
- 28:26Speaker 3: You look at friends, you know, you look at you
- 28:30Speaker 3: look at neighbors, you know, and I, I know I
- 28:42Speaker 3: touched on on Susan, and I know the only thing
- 28:50Speaker 3: I knew is if it was her. You know, she
- 28:55Speaker 3: was at work, she had left on the break and
- 29:00Speaker 3: actually went to Crawfordville, which which was unusual. Could she
- 29:06Speaker 3: usually just run down to Max Meats and picked up
- 29:10Speaker 3: her cigarettes. But when you know, and you always hear
- 29:15Speaker 3: all these rumors, you know, and I know she got
- 29:20Speaker 3: I know, she got real offended about everybody thinking she
- 29:24Speaker 3: had something to do with it. And I can understand
- 29:30Speaker 3: her feeling like that, but working in law enforcement, that's
- 29:35Speaker 3: the first place you look, you know. And other than that,
- 29:44Speaker 3: the only thing I could think of was, you know,
- 29:47Speaker 3: did they owe somebody money? Did Susan o somebody money?
- 29:56Speaker 3: And they wanted their money back? And when Jody didn't
- 30:02Speaker 3: have the money to give him, you know, did they
- 30:06Speaker 3: get an argument? And then you know the fight and
- 30:14Speaker 3: cure you know, started and it ended in Jody's death.
- 30:19Speaker 3: But I I know a lot a law enforcement has
- 30:24Speaker 3: looked at different things, and it really bugs me that
- 30:30Speaker 3: I can't get to the evidence to be able to
- 30:36Speaker 3: draw my own conclusions. I mean, working a law enforcement
- 30:41Speaker 3: of course, and being an analyst, you're always digging, so
- 30:44Speaker 3: you're always wanting. And I still have that mindset with
- 30:49Speaker 3: a lot of things, and I'm just like, oh Lord,
- 30:53Speaker 3: please just let me be able to work on this
- 30:57Speaker 3: case with these guys you know bye, you know, being family,
- 31:06Speaker 3: they don't allow it. So that's really hard for me
- 31:11Speaker 3: because I just want to get in there and see
- 31:16Speaker 3: the interviews, because there's a lot of rumors that went
- 31:20Speaker 3: around about the interviews, about things that were said, things
- 31:26Speaker 3: that came out in the interviews, and you know, I
- 31:35Speaker 3: I think, I think law enforcement. I don't know if
- 31:43Speaker 3: you want me to go into that law enforcement made
- 31:45Speaker 3: a lot of mistakes in the beginning, and I'll just
- 31:48Speaker 3: leave it at that.
- 32:04Speaker 2: One thing I wanted to ask about was, you know,
- 32:06Speaker 2: obviously when we were doing our research, there was a
- 32:08Speaker 2: name that kept coming up, and we wanted to ask
- 32:11Speaker 2: you about this person, and uh, maybe see if you
- 32:14Speaker 2: can help get us in touch with him, if you
- 32:16Speaker 2: still have a connection to him.
- 32:17Speaker 5: His name is Bill Poole and what can you tell
- 32:21Speaker 5: us about him his involvement.
- 32:23Speaker 2: I've I feel like we've read we've read a couple
- 32:26Speaker 2: of articles that talked about he was hired as a
- 32:30Speaker 2: PI for the Kilgwar family.
- 32:32Speaker 5: We're assuming that's you or Gladys. What can you tell us?
- 32:41Speaker 3: Okay, Bill Pole? I worked with him at the Sheriff's
- 32:44Speaker 3: office similar Color County. He was a deputy there for
- 32:47Speaker 3: many years then then he retied, okay, And he was
- 32:56Speaker 3: good at what he did. He had a passion for
- 33:02Speaker 3: for law enforcement. He he wanted to do things right,
- 33:06Speaker 3: he wanted to do I'm not saying we didn't butt
- 33:12Speaker 3: heads at times because he was stubborn and stubborn can
- 33:19Speaker 3: be good and in some senses. But but he was
- 33:26Speaker 3: a friend. And when this happened, you know, there's a
- 33:35Speaker 3: lot of people, a lot of the guys that I
- 33:39Speaker 3: work with and you know at WA Color that reached
- 33:44Speaker 3: out to mom, you know, to just to lend their
- 33:51Speaker 3: shoulder basically and to support us, you know, and Mom
- 33:59Speaker 3: and Bill got to talking and everything, and you know,
- 34:06Speaker 3: he said, he basically said, you don't get to help
- 34:09Speaker 3: us anyway he could, And and that's how it got
- 34:16Speaker 3: kind of got started, and then you know, my mom,
- 34:21Speaker 3: she's like, you know, we just need to hire Bill
- 34:26Speaker 3: and let Bill see if they will let Bill look
- 34:30Speaker 3: over everything. She reached out to him, and you know,
- 34:36Speaker 3: and he said, yes, he said he would jump right
- 34:38Speaker 3: on it. And of course at the time, he he
- 34:48Speaker 3: was limited in what he could what they would give.
- 34:55Speaker 3: You know, he wanted to work with the guys and
- 34:58Speaker 3: help him out any way he could on the case,
- 35:03Speaker 3: and but he was limited to what he received. And
- 35:10Speaker 3: of course with the initial investigation if you read it,
- 35:16Speaker 3: and you I mean, I don't know what all was
- 35:21Speaker 3: being said or you know, we don't have access to
- 35:24Speaker 3: any of that, and I don't you know, I don't
- 35:29Speaker 3: know what Bill read, you know, and of course the
- 35:35Speaker 3: conclusion that he drew from what access he had. I said,
- 35:43Speaker 3: I told him, I said, there's no way, absolutely no way.
- 35:47Speaker 3: You're looking in the wrong direction.
- 36:05Speaker 5: Is it. Are you still in touch with Bill at
- 36:06Speaker 5: this point?
- 36:09Speaker 3: Yeah, he called. He calls my mom every now and then,
- 36:15Speaker 3: you know, just to check in and say hi. He
- 36:23Speaker 3: he still lives here in the county and I haven't
- 36:30Speaker 3: I haven't seen him lately, actually, and I have to
- 36:35Speaker 3: ask Mom if she is still in touch with him,
- 36:39Speaker 3: but he I know she is because he's always reaching
- 36:47Speaker 3: out and she'll call him a renown and then gotcha.
- 36:50Speaker 3: So just to see how he's doing.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Yeah, We've reached out to Bill ourselves because his name
- 36:57Speaker 2: just kept coming up, and I can tell that he's
- 36:59Speaker 2: read in our messages, but he doesn't know who we are,
- 37:02Speaker 2: so he hasn't reached back out to us, right, And.
- 37:07Speaker 3: That's something I can probably.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Help y'all with, you know, because again we're not asking
- 37:13Speaker 2: for anyone to say that you're not comfortable.
- 37:15Speaker 5: Talking about our goal here, right. You know.
- 37:18Speaker 2: It's kind of interesting. The way I'm trying to describe
- 37:20Speaker 2: this to people is we're not performing necessarily an investigation.
- 37:25Speaker 5: I just want to tell the.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Story right from multiple perspectives and then let people draw
- 37:31Speaker 2: their own conclusions. And what I'm honestly, what I'm hoping
- 37:34Speaker 2: comes out of it is someone who's not talking now
- 37:38Speaker 2: will say, hey, here's what happened.
- 37:41Speaker 3: I have. I had a lot of ideas about trying
- 37:47Speaker 3: to get people to talk. Yeah, I never thought of
- 37:52Speaker 3: a podcast. I never you know, I mean, I was
- 37:56Speaker 3: just thinking, how do we get the how do we
- 38:03Speaker 3: get the public interested in my brother's case. How do
- 38:07Speaker 3: we get people talking. We want people to continue talking
- 38:14Speaker 3: about Jodie. You know, we want them, we want I
- 38:19Speaker 3: want you know. I was like, you know, I don't drink,
- 38:25Speaker 3: I don't do drugs or anything like that. But I
- 38:29Speaker 3: was thinking, you know, I'm willing to go to the bar.
- 38:35Speaker 3: I'm willing to, you know, get the conversation started. I'm
- 38:39Speaker 3: willing to you know, go places, you know, even at
- 38:44Speaker 3: like of course I got a loud mouth, so in
- 38:49Speaker 3: the restaurant, in a restaurant, you know, and just say,
- 38:52Speaker 3: you know that kilgar case. I keep seeing those signs,
- 38:56Speaker 3: and you know, that's just I would love for somebody
- 39:00Speaker 3: just to say what they think, you know, and everybody's
- 39:05Speaker 3: like Robin, everybody knows you're Jo's sister. They're gonna know
- 39:10Speaker 3: you're up to something. And you know, I think because
- 39:15Speaker 3: my last name is different, you know, well, no, they're
- 39:18Speaker 3: not gonna know. Why Why is the community so closed
- 39:39Speaker 3: lipped about it?
- 39:40Speaker 2: That's been Yeah, that's been one of the more intriguing things.
- 39:42Speaker 2: And if anything, and my wife and I talked about this,
- 39:45Speaker 2: it's actually what led us to getting more and more
- 39:48Speaker 2: interested because I just started asking some questions to people
- 39:52Speaker 2: that I knew, and I was amazed at how many
- 39:55Speaker 2: people would tell me I don't want to get involved
- 39:58Speaker 2: in that, or I I don't I don't think I
- 40:00Speaker 2: should discuss this. I'm thinking, why aren't we interested in
- 40:04Speaker 2: solving this? I mean, that's and so it was interesting
- 40:07Speaker 2: because I think it was originally said to me that
- 40:09Speaker 2: way as a deterrent, but what they didn't realize it
- 40:12Speaker 2: actually made me more interested because I find it's very
- 40:16Speaker 2: intriguing that you know, who are you, who are you protecting?
- 40:21Speaker 2: If that's what's happening, what are you? You know? Wakalla
- 40:26Speaker 2: County is one of those counties that everybody knows everybody,
- 40:29Speaker 2: and so we're in a situation where everybody knows everybody
- 40:33Speaker 2: and we have an unsolved murder that no one wants
- 40:39Speaker 2: to talk about. And that's that to me is I
- 40:42Speaker 2: think it's interesting, but not from a oh cool interesting.
- 40:46Speaker 2: I think it's interesting that it's sad. It's sad that
- 40:49Speaker 2: that's the perspective because I want this solved, and so
- 40:53Speaker 2: that's the reason and.
- 40:56Speaker 3: One of the things that I'm sorry this is one
- 41:00Speaker 3: of the things, one of the things that has really
- 41:07Speaker 3: been disheartening is every October on the day that Jodie
- 41:13Speaker 3: was murdered, we gather in front of the courthouse and
- 41:19Speaker 3: you know, just to bring awareness, you know that the
- 41:24Speaker 3: case is still unsolved. You know, we have a lot
- 41:27Speaker 3: of people that pass by and blow the horns and
- 41:31Speaker 3: you know, and and everything, and you know, my mama
- 41:37Speaker 3: just it begs people to come and be with us,
- 41:42Speaker 3: to support us, you know, and you know, I I
- 41:50Speaker 3: just could not believe that the community, what color County,
- 41:57Speaker 3: like you said, you know, used to be close knit.
- 42:04Speaker 3: Everybody knew everybody, everybody loved everybody, you know, and would
- 42:09Speaker 3: support people. And you know, I remember it, you know,
- 42:12Speaker 3: when somebody died in your family, the whole county basically
- 42:20Speaker 3: bringing food to you, bring in this and that, you know,
- 42:25Speaker 3: always checking in with you, seeing how you're doing. And
- 42:33Speaker 3: that has been the biggest thing with me, is like, Okay,
- 42:38Speaker 3: I know that most of the people that did that
- 42:44Speaker 3: were you know, older, and but I'm like, why in
- 42:50Speaker 3: the world has it come to the point where people
- 42:55Speaker 3: are not supporting each other? You know, I mean, I
- 43:00Speaker 3: don't care what color you are, black, white, green, purple.
- 43:03Speaker 3: I will if there's anything I can do to help
- 43:07Speaker 3: you if you're if you're if a loved one was
- 43:10Speaker 3: murdered or anything like that, you know, I would want
- 43:15Speaker 3: to support I would want to support the family in
- 43:19Speaker 3: any way I could, even if it was just showing up.
- 43:22Speaker 3: You know, you don't have to you don't have to
- 43:27Speaker 3: have known Jody, you don't you didn't have to know us,
- 43:33Speaker 3: but just in general, you know, just just come and
- 43:40Speaker 3: be there, you know. You know, we celebrate his birthday
- 43:46Speaker 3: every year. People will come to that, and but it's
- 43:52Speaker 3: you know, like over the years, you know, I mean
- 43:55Speaker 3: it's this year makes eleven years, and people have just
- 44:02Speaker 3: sliped off, and I thought, you know, where is the community,
- 44:06Speaker 3: where's the community spirit that we used to have, you know,
- 44:12Speaker 3: in the concern for one another.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Despite extensive investigations by the Waucolla County Sheriff's Office and
- 44:34Speaker 1: the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, no arrests have been
- 44:38Speaker 1: made and the case remains unsolved. It is the only
- 44:43Speaker 1: unsolved homicide in Waucola County. Authorities continue to seek information
