- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's up, welcome on in, everybody.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: It is that time, one of the biggest pods of the year.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma and Texas is gonna play a little football game this weekend.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: We're here to break it all down.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: Who is we?
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's the Super Sun outside crew, of course.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: I ride Chapman post up here in more America.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: Up to the 9-08, we've got our fearless leader, John Hoover, Boss, how are you?
- 0:32[SPEAKER_03]: Great man, we're gonna get back in the swing of things with this OU Texas game.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_03]: What size is this gonna be like, 22 in a row for me?
- 0:39[SPEAKER_03]: So, now I'm fired up.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we got new press box so our main Carson field covering his first one is not well, you're going to be on the field.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: So you will get to experience the most like Democratic bathroom in the world where basically Matthew McConaughey all the way down to the security workers all use the same thing.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: But you're not going to get to have the bolted down seat experience cards we have new days.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: No, I will not, but I'm excited for this one or the atmosphere is unreal.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: Really is nothing like it with it being equidistant from the campuses.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's a pretty remarkable game to be covering, so I'm excited for it.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: Carson's first Abraham has been to plenty just like the rest of us.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: We got some old grizzled vets here of the red river shootout here on the suicide crew.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: Abraham, where are you at, mentally?
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's Wednesday, noon, seasons not over yet, but he is wearing black right now.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: This is a cubs funeral.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to talk about it.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's a, hey, the hockey season started last night, and the, the, the pins got a win.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll, we'll focus on that right now.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: We turn the page.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: A word and want to talk with the Cubs.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: Brent Venables doesn't want to talk about John material, but gosh, darn it, Brent.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: You have to.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: It is the big story of the week, whether you like it or not.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: Will Oklahoma quarterback John material take the field against the horns.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, we had a volley of questions for Brent Vendibles yesterday, aided by the breaking source report from Pete Nacos and all of his, or not, Pete Nacos, Pete Tham will sorry, Pete Nacos, Pete Thamel, breaking John material would like to play in the OU Texas game, John.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: Didn't want you to source that.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_03]: He's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: he he would like to play in the biggest game of the year.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: Now, uh, getting inside that that's what a lot of this week is going to be uh, straight out, probably not going to know until Saturday, but Venville's feeling up on show those questions yesterday.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_03]: Why not even know, like, before it might have to wait until kickoff or the first series.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_03]: until Saturday.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_03]: If, uh, remember the, uh, venibles, Dylan Gabriel subterfusion 22, he rolls him out there for pregame.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_03]: He takes a bunch of snaps.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_03]: He goes out and goes in in the tunnel.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_03]: Then comes back out and he's in street clothes right for kickoffs like, okay.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_03]: Was that necessary?
- 3:14[SPEAKER_03]: I get, it turned out it wasn't, you know, you could have achieved the same thing by not even bringing Dylan to Dallas, but that was a weird time.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_03]: This is going to be weird, too, whatever they decide, you know, material dressed out last week, right?
- 3:31[SPEAKER_03]: Full uniform stood on the sideline, has a little brace on his thumb.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_03]: that'll be the baseline for what for how weird Saturdays going to get.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to come out and he's going to do some stuff in pre-game.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_03]: We're not going to know and then every binocular and every camera lens is going to be trained on him during warm-ups to see just how close he is to catching a football, holding a football, throwing a football.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's going to throw in pregame.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: He's throwing foot like he has thrown footballs and he's going to throw in pregame.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: Now he's going to play.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: But like he said, who've bred Vittables, this coaching staff, they went as far as making sure that dealing Gabriel was pictured in practice in a video in the lead up to Oklahoma in Texas in 2022.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: If you thought it was going to be anything different than you got another thing come in Carson, Abraham.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: I were in Normandy yesterday.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: Carson, once you make a part of it was, I think there was always going to be that someone was going to have to ask the material question one or two questions as part of like when you get to press conference week, we know he's not going to say anything, but it's still the job just in case he does.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: The family report though, I feel felt like it expedited like what is ramping up mean.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: There was some questions of like trying to discern like, is what is the hold up?
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: Is it pain?
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: Is it grip?
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: All that stuff?
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: And Brett Vennable just flat out
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: and said that he doesn't know anything about the injury, which great line makes easy, but that is alive.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: Rightman will know what the injury is and he knows all about.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, Jim Nagy's the CEO, but Brent Venomall's runs the team.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: He knows exactly what's going on.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: How likely he is to play all of that stuff.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: But I understand from his perspective, not wanting to share a whole lot, just because of availability reports, how those work, not wanting to give Texas a competitive advantage of, oh, we're game planning for this guy for sure.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: Just in case material isn't able to play it, or if Venomall's pretty much said, yeah, we think he's playing.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: That could have given Texas a little bit of something.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's been about as vague as I expected it to be, um, it's really not a shocker, especially considering what they did with the Dylan Gabriel rollout a couple of years ago.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I wouldn't say it's anything just too shocking yet.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we see something out of the ordinary and tonight's availability of your report, who knows, but we'll have to wait and see.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: It would be, it'll be stupid for Brettman rules to say anything.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: Let me just put this out there.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like if the shoe was on the other foot, if Arch Manning that shoulder stinger, if it, there was like in doubt, ABER, C-Sarcation talks to the media on like Mondays and then the Wednesday teleconference, I think he does one Thursday too.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: Sark should also not come out and say, oh yeah, Arch is 100% playing or oh, he's not, but like that, that's part of what this week is.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: That's part of what this game is.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think anyone's expecting that.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: To tell us that it is 90 degrees outside and that is why you're practicing in the indoor was that we've seen a lot of BS from that podium and that was a lot of it.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that was about the most absurd thing I've heard in the press conference and there's been plenty of absurd things, but, you know, it was.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_02]: 90 and hotter for a good portion of the early part of the season and while they do practice indoors on Tuesdays, pretty regularly, Mondays, not so much, and sort of to roll out that
- 6:51[SPEAKER_02]: load of, uh, let's see what I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm lucky.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think Malarkey is what we've been using.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: Smash that word, uh, works.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, was just sort of ridiculous, like, even just flat out say, hey, we don't want people to, to get an eye on.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, we'll blame it on Mason Young and those folks for what happened a few years ago and that's completely tongue-in-cheek, by the way, for what happened with those folks a few years ago watching from the journalism building as Caleb Williams took the snaps ahead of Spencer Ratler and, you know, Brent Minibles wasn't around then, but he certainly knows what that vantage
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty spectacular stuff, but that's exactly what I was going to say.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_03]: That's exactly what I was going to say was maybe when we talked about it last week, who's going to take the snaps, they reminded them, oh crap, there's that window over there.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_03]: We need to put up taller fences.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, let's move on to the end door.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, at least, I will say this for Brent Venables.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_02]: At least he'll go into the indoor instead of what Lincoln Riley would do, which is hire an incredible amount of city cars to, you know, patrol the area and run people off.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I keep saying this.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: I wish we had the FOIA numbers for the security guard
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: under Lincoln Riley versus now with Brent Venables because it's certainly gone down pretty significantly.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I could see I've been in that parking garage on practice days you know because I have to hang out at Norman somewhere for basically two days right I've been in the practice garage and have somebody coming knock on my window so you need to move.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_03]: Not really not when this is a public pocket Lincoln's down there looking up going.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_03]: I need two shooters up here on this bandage point I need a third one over here.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_03]: Dude, we're just sports riders.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_03]: We're not here to break up, you know Major Secrets major national secrets just well, but now that's a that's a punishable offense who what's that?
- 9:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's too political, but You know Reporting stuff that Reporting stuff reported is a yeah
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: Watch out Pete Damel.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's coming for you, because, yeah, John material wants to play.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: Now that's gonna matter, but we'll come and kick around the football.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: But it's up to here is a hockey, that obviously matters a great deal.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's why there's so much intrigue here.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: Who on, I know you didn't get to chip in with us here on the post game pod, but not to rehash it.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: was fine against Kent State.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: Bit our buckle talked about it on Tuesday.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: He said it a lot more polite than I would.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: He talked about, yeah, he used to clean up some footwork.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: If Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: is the guy, and he has that happy feet, Oklahoma is going to lose to Texas, because it's going to be a fired up Texas football team.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: And Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: is just going to air mail overthrow all that stuff.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's got to find a way if it's Hawkins to settle in, be decisive in driving, deliver the football, because as we know, John, there's a couple of constants in this game.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: gonna be momentum swings all that stuff the running game tells a lot with which we know uh... but the other thing like it feels like with these two defenses that are both really good it's gonna be not just there's gonna be a small amount of explosive plays available and when the opportunity rises you got to hit it and we saw Michael Hawkins junior miss it with kantez Lewis if that were an actual defense he would have missed it with the touchdown to satania immediately after and he was missing guys all day
- 10:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so quick recap of what I think part of the problem is when you look at 44 nothing against Kansas, oh, Kent State, not Kansas State, Kansas State might have been a better match for all you that day, for sure, might have, but Kent State, you beat him 44 nothing, your offense gets what 37, right?
- 10:47[SPEAKER_03]: So not hugely like you didn't cover, they say great teams cover, good teams win, great teams cover, oh, you didn't cover,
- 10:55[SPEAKER_03]: even with the defensive touchdown.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_03]: Here's, when you look back at that kit, kit stays no good.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_03]: 185 yards rushing.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_03]: 170 yards passing.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_03]: Superman.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_03]: Texas Tech guys 230 rushing.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_03]: 371 passing.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_03]: Florida State against Kent State against Kent State.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_03]: I'm talking about Florida State 498 rushing 277 passing.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_03]: They won 6610 Texas Tech 16214 Buffalo.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, we're talking about the Buffalo balls here, not the Buffalo bills, the Buffalo balls.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_03]: They had 139 yards rushing.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_03]: They also threw for 318.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_03]: They only won by 3.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_03]: My point is, Kent State did more defensively against Oklahoma.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I guess the Oklahoma did less offensively against Kent State than you would have expected.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_03]: What the heck?
- 11:47[SPEAKER_03]: 355 yards total offense?
- 11:49[SPEAKER_03]: That's not good.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_03]: So.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, here's the problem.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_03]: Kent State should never be a measuring stick for the Oklahoma offense, right?
- 11:57[SPEAKER_03]: That was not a competitive game.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma needs Oklahoma's done some good things against Auburn.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_03]: They did some good things against Michigan.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_03]: They've done some other good things offensively.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, with the new quarterback first started the season.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_03]: He was off a little bit on some of his throws.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_03]: He was doing really well.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_03]: I think he hit what nine in a row or something like that.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_03]: you know they were they were checking down the he was doing uh it would work a lot of short game that he hit one intermediate maybe two intermediate throws in that stretch.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_03]: He was fine but then he started kind of getting a little wild and doing that side on thing.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_03]: He could tell he was not quite comfortable.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what it was with uh but you know he said there's a lot for him to build on.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_03]: Michael Hawkins said that so clearly he he's uh as Brent said he's got some rooted self awareness.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it didn't help that, of course, I don't know what to make the offensive line.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: First off, they can't run the football.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_01]: We know that we'll dive into that here a little bit, but that did nothing to me to make me believe that Oklahoma's suddenly gonna go running for 200 yards or anything against Texas.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: But it's a group that had their two best pass pro days probably against the two best defenses they played in Michigan and Auburn.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: and then saved their worst pass per day for the worst defense that they're going to play, which the raw numbers as far as number times that Hawkins got hit and all that stuff is not like, oh my gosh, wow, and so you factor in that that is not a living breathing football team.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's like an FCS level squad, they're awful.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: That kid's state, he like, it surely Derek Simmons isn't going to have that kind of shocker at the cotton boat, right?
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you can hope not, it is, it's one of those things that you have to wonder was the mentality all there playing against a team like Ken State.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of know we hear every, every availability, we treat every game the same, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: Is that really true though against a team like Ken State, which, oh, you know, is that their scout team could,
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: beat by 20 points.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: Who knows?
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: I obviously don't know.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what is going on through their heads when they're playing a team like Kent State, but it is harder to get fired up.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have the crowd behind you as much obviously still a home game, but a lot less into it than they were against Auburn, Michigan than they will be in conference games later in the year.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so, I still, I wouldn't worry too much Derek Simmons as you said, I have a really rough game.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: Um, that kind of seemed out of the ordinary from what we saw from him and his first few games with OU.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: I did feel like the run blocking was a little bit better.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: Um,
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: take it with a grandson.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: If it can't stay, like, can't be like that's like, right, yeah, no, 100%.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's just not the same.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: Just the size, the skill, the athleticism, like, all of that's not there.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: But they were able to at least move.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: If they couldn't move against kin state, because I remember the Illinois state game, granted.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think Illinois State being a good FCS team is probably better than the product that we saw from Kent State on Saturday.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: But they couldn't, oh, you couldn't run against Illinois State, at least they could run against Kent State.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: So at least small progress, but Texas, their front sevens typically very dang good.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: ran a little bit.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: They couldn't force an explosive or pop at explosive plate a neighbor.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: No running back ran for a rush of 20 or more yards.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you look at the good news is when we flip it around, I don't think Texas could be able to run the ball either, but if you had it to the website, Oakland Studios on outside.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of wrote about like what it takes typically in this game to
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: win the rushing battle if you look at it over the last 25 years just a good round number and frankly I was tired of like going through box course and they played 26 times in the last 25 years if you remember a big 12 championship game.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: The team that wins the rushing battle is 23 and 1 and then 1 year they tied.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: the team that wins the rushing battle typically wins this game now over the last 25 years.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: So when the rushing battle the average yard per rut or average yards per game for the winner of all you Texas is 25.5 yards.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: Are these teams going to combine for 205 yards on the ground on Saturday?
- 16:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying it's not going to happen, but I think we're going to take the under.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_02]: on that.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you look at the rushing numbers.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, heck, Texas ran for 52 yards against Florida last week.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_02]: They've had a couple of games where they pop 200, but haven't been very good on the ground.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_02]: We know about OU struggles.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_02]: And then,
- 16:22[SPEAKER_02]: you look at two of the best defenses in the country and, you know, at Texas, Florida is the only team that's run for more than 100 yards on them, the week before they held Sam used into less than 30 yards rushing.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_02]: We know about Oklahoma's success on the ground, or stopping the ground game on the other side.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_02]: So I think I'll be surprised if either of these teams pop a big number.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_02]: on Saturday, but you've got to be able to run at certain times in the game, whether it's to shrink things, time-wise, or just to get big first downs.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think you'll see both these quarterbacks run some, but especially whoever's under center for Oklahoma, I think is going to have to be effective on the ground in order for the centers to pull this one off.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_01]: It kind of goes back to the last time, Oklahoma won this game without like it, established RB1, if you'll grade about was 23, not very long ago, what happened there?
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Dylan Gabriel, a little Dylan Gabriel became the first OU quarterback to throw for 275 and run for 100 against Texas Ever.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: That includes a jailed hurts, that includes a Kyla Murray, that includes
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: a baker may feel jumped the good news is whether it's material hotkins they do it in slightly different ways with tier more of a I'd say more of a power run a little bit at quarterback than than the twitch of Michael Hawkins shooter like the good news is I think that you're very very comfortable with both of those guys right at the ball I guess it's just that if the tier is playing
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: And this is part of why I think everyone was asking different variants of like, is it grip, is it pain, what is the limiting factor because if it's grip, there you go, does that make it's here more liable to maybe fumble because you know if Texas in its material goes into this, they're going to be ripping it the right hand every time they get a chance and that's what any defense should do and that kind of thing.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think if material can't grip the football, there's very, very little chance that it'll play.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_03]: He's not a tailback.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_03]: He's there, you know, best rushing yardage option, maybe, but he's not a tailback.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't need to be out there taking those hits, especially against that defense text.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_03]: It's got a really good defense.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_03]: Ryan, don't forget my special annual statistic that I dig up literally every year, dust off.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_03]: I think I found it in 2013 and I've been using it pretty much every year since then.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_03]: It builds on itself and that is in this game.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_03]: When one of the quarterbacks has played in this game before and the other one has not the one who played in the game before almost always wins over the last 30 years 25 years no 35 years over the last since 1990 the team whose quarterback has no experience going against a quarterback who has experienced
- 19:16[SPEAKER_03]: by Jalen Hurts, Dylan Gabriel, and even Spencer Ratler got in there.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_03]: Guys that were two guys that were experienced transfers from other schools, which had never been done before in this series, and then the other one was 2020, which was the COVID year and there was nobody in the stadium, there was 25% capacity, there wasn't a full stadium for Spencer Ratler or whoever might have been starting for the first time that game.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_03]: to get scared and pee down his leg, because that's what happens to these quarterbacks in this game.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_03]: They get out there and they feel that pressure.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_03]: They, and in material, now think about it.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_03]: The material you're talking about a guy from Dallas, okay?
- 19:55[SPEAKER_03]: He grew up watching this game.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_03]: He knows all about it.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_03]: So for him to make his first start in the Red River rivalry,
- 20:03[SPEAKER_03]: a little sketchy form.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_03]: Guess what?
- 20:05[SPEAKER_03]: His backup actually has more experience in this game than either material or the Texas quarterback in this game, Archmany.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_03]: What?
- 20:15[SPEAKER_03]: So, who does Oklahoma want at quarterback for this game?
- 20:19[SPEAKER_03]: You want you starting quarterback who's never played in it before or do you want your backup who knows what to expect is going to be cool, calm, you think, right?
- 20:29[SPEAKER_01]: The steps to step, they want their starting quarterback.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: There's no reason.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: There's a reason that Michael Hawking is the backup, and it's because he can't set his feet.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, it's simple as that.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: It becomes to, it's not just about Michael Hawking's junior and job material.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's about obviously.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: running back rotation, which has been puzzling behind Tory playlock.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think we can say it's puzzling behind playlock.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: Playlock has separated himself out and then it's everybody else kind of figured out Xavier Robinson's witness protection right now.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: Jemontay Barnes comes into block.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_01]: Jemontay Barnes hasn't really run the boy.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's one of those things Carson where
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: You look at it and for this, you offensive line, they make good in the past block, and we'll see what the rum block is, but it's not like there's any consistently behind them outside of Tory Blaylock to really get the scene together.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: And you saw, you know, Jade Not is back part of the world again.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: He left Witzack and I think Xavier Robinson moved into his house wherever that is.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, with Jade and I mean,
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: I wrote about him the day after the game and I'm not going to lie and say, oh, it was just this memorable historic performance because it wasn't.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: But he did show at least signs of that twitchingness, that speed, that strength that he has that we've obviously seen the tape of from his years at Cal.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_00]: He looked efficient when he ran the ball.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: He also caught two passes, he's at least an option.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: I don't.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't predict he's ever going to take the first team reps away from Blaylock this year, assuming Blaylock's stay's healthy.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think like you said, Blaylock has really cemented himself as the RB1.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: Some a little bit of inconsistency, but that comes with being a freshman in the SEC.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: Really good games, though, against Temple.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: It looked really good with his touches against Kent State.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's not saying a whole lot, but Blaylock's obviously the lead man.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: They turned to for some screen passes, some quick stuff, like what he can bring and then yeah, who knows what Xavier Robinson's doing right now, Javonte Barnes has gotten some goal on touch, has been decent with those, but it really is kind of just figuring out who is that number two behind Blaylock, because as solid as Blaylock has looked, they have to have someone else that can take a little bit of a load off and be consistent doing so.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be, I'm interested to see two, every we saw it, like a little bit of a little of a kind of trying to use shade not in the passing game.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: His best moment came right after though, you had to like, bend all the way down and his knee touches the turf and so it ended up not matter, you gotta be able to egg.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: whether it's the quarterback or the running back, whatever.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: You got to get there with that, having to squat down.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I just look at this and like if it's Michael Hawkins and it's those early passes like that, the little touch passes to Satania and Berks, being able to get the ball out to the edges and then you can use your Giovanni Gibson's Jiren canic.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like with Hawkins, we saw it.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: Once he settled in the first half, things settled down,
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: And then it was the decisive guy, things like that work.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that offense can move.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: And that offense can get stuff done in the cotton ball.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like it's about how do you early build that confidence?
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: Because then once the confidence left, that's when it got a little, I don't know, not shaky isn't like the game was bad, but a little just, hey, the arm slots are moving for no reason.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: You're not setting your feet stuff like that.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like that could be huge.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: And that could come from a Jade, not as well as
- 23:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think they've got to do a good job of establishing that short passing game that sort of acts as an extension of the running game early in this one, especially if Hawkins is in their material, you know, that changes the dynamic a little bit as far as that goes, but, you know,
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: Torne Balex been good so far, but let's not act like he's just been a super star.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_02]: He's been a guy who is, you know, step forward and over-perform to expectations, because everybody else around him is under-perform to expectations.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: And certainly that starts with J. Not, but even Giovonte Barnes, things like that, you know, Barnes didn't play at all.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_02]: On a Saturday against Kent State, we'll see, you know,
- 24:45[SPEAKER_02]: They need to be able to be creative and luckily for them, Ben Arbuckle has shown a a penchant for creativity with things.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's a little bit different from, you know, we know Jeff Levy was in there, we'd be seeing Dion Berks on the end around, like three or four times a game, probably Satania in this offense, but you know, that's gone out the window, but they're going to have to do some different kind of things to,
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: at least simulate an effective running game because if Texas can just lay back on you and drop back and you know force you to try to pick them apart with their secondary even if of Malik Muhammad isn't playing which it sounds like there's a good chance that he plays that'll be probably after John material the first thing to look for on the availability report
- 25:37[SPEAKER_02]: But they still have a really good secondary, even if they struggle a little bit against Florida.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's going to be fascinating to watch out that sort of chess match between the offense of Oklahoma and the defensive Texas performs when so much of the focus is on Brent Venables.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: The defensive mind versus Steve Sarquizzi and the offensive mind.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's I think too.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: If you can attack the perimeter early with quick passing things like that, not only will it build confidence, but who've had it in times when we see it, if you can get guys like ant hill and Colin Simmons and this Texas defensive line to have to just run sideline to sideline and chase Oklahoma all over the field.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_01]: Even if it's just, you know,
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: Seven yards down the field at a time, but they're having to run 30 yards back and forth all over.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's why Oklahoma's in the indoor, right?
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: So they can keep the tread on this higher this week while Texas gets all worn out under the beating hot sun and Austin and starts cramping up all of the cotton ball.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, we'll be interesting to watch in his first red river rivalry this year will be Ben Arbuckle another Texas guy.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_03]: He said he grew up, you know, obviously in the panhandle closer to Norman than he is to Austin or even Dallas.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_03]: So it'll be interesting to see how he responds to what Texas throws at him because Pete Quickowski's going to throw some exotic defenses.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to, he's going to come up with some fronts that they haven't shown yet.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_03]: And what level of preparation will Michael Hawkins, again, were presuming he's the guy, what level of preparation is he going to have been presented to him during the week for when they do this?
- 27:16[SPEAKER_03]: OK, they've got stuff that they've studied from last year in previous years that he's been the defensive coordinator.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_03]: But this year, they're going to roll out some stuff that Hawkins may not be familiar with.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_03]: Or not just Hawkins, we put everything on the quarterbacks, Oklahoma's got some new lineman, some blockers up front that are going to have to recognize what front there in and where's the mic and where's the pressure coming from and who's going to be a delayed blitz stuff like that because a lot of damage that Texas has done to Oklahoma over the years,
- 27:50[SPEAKER_03]: has been on stuff like that tricky stuff stuff that's uh you know an offensive coordinator might call a trick play just junkin up the defense a little bit so I'll be interested to see how Ben Arbuckle responds how he has prepared for that first and then how he responds in the in the heave of the moment uh you know especially with those infamous halftime adjustments uh what does he do um come out in the second half if things are going rough for the Oklahoma offensive the first half
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: Brent talks about like they they have video them walking on the tunnel so we can try to like show people it's not like having them a do you think he has a and this is where Busy bolt and then Mike Stoops almost got into fistacuffs and had to Busy had to walk to break it probably not he's probably like who is that and why what happened anyway?
- 28:38[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, something that could make life a lot easier on material, on Hawkins, and on our buckle, Carson Florida and DJ Lackway, they had the great, great, uh, just moment of, uh, screw it down, swelts and down, there's somewhere, a lot of great stuff by Lackway, but to a certain extent, it was kind of like, yeah, I could just kind of throw this pile up here, a little bit get out of jail free card, get some momentum going.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: Please, like, go go my swelts a little bit different than the,
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: So Tane has been good on like third downs and and just good here is this last couple.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: But yet you really see D on Berks be the D on Berks that was build coming from Purdue.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: Countess Lewis, it sounds like everything considering how scary that was on Saturday.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's maybe the absolute best case scenario.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: I still don't know what that means for Saturday.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see you on the availability report.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: We have Jvonna Gibson up there.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: Jiren canics been really really good over the middle of the field on third downs.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: Things like that is this a spot where it might just be like, hey, the receiver's got to be like,
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: this much more as far as making a guy miss or stuff like that.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_01]: That way when our buckles schemes are open, it's not just a 30 yard chunk with that.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: That's where you get into the big plays that you house and that flip games is opposed to big chunk play and then maybe the defense can settle for a field goal and just be like, oh, well, it's points, but it's not touchdown and everyone feels good about themselves.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I do feel like the receivers tight ends play a very big role in this year's game.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, a much more fortuitous situation for the sooner the last year in this department, just getting some guys from the portal, having Jared and Canick be the standout that he's been tight in.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think utilizing some of that size with Canick, Giovanni Gibson, I can carry in maybe.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's a lot of options that they can use to just kind of exploit that because let's face it, even though DJ Lagway had a career day against Texas's defense.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_00]: that are still a very dang good defense.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_00]: They still have the dudes, one of the most talented units in the nation.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, they need to find every advantage they can and maybe some of that's finding Jared and Kannick on not only third down, but first and second down.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_00]: Finding a guy, finding a formation for a guy like Ivan Kerri on the come,
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: Break off one like he did against Kent State on Saturday.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_00]: I like how deep this receiver room is and we've talked about this plenty of times and there are a lot more favored in that way this year.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_00]: You utilize some of the size from Earth's speed rather from Satanya, from Dion Berks.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_00]: They have a lot of options, just kind of this is an opportunity for our local to see what's working, to see what's not and really go from there with how versatile this receiver
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: Our book has had an extra week to prepare for this game too.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: We're coming off the by week that they can say all that they want.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: If Oklahoma wasn't working on taxes during Kent State week, everyone should be fine.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, you know, I think somebody said earlier, I think I might have been Carson that Illinois State was maybe not as good as Kent State or Illinois State was maybe better than Kent State.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think there's any maybe to it Illinois State was a much better representation of college football team than Kent State and yeah, they better have been doing some things looking ahead to this game much like they did.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_02]: in the off-season doing some things looking ahead to Michigan, and I think it's going to be interesting to me to see how this wide receiver tight-ends group continues to shift a little bit.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, especially now, you will see obviously Keon says Lewis is status tonight, but with the addition of Giovanni Gibson, I'm really intrigued to see if Kaden Helms winds up being a significant piece of things.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_02]: We saw him with the touchdown catch the other day in, uh, you know, really his first significant action of the year.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_02]: I really like him as far as, you know, body type, his physicality coming into that, that tight-end group as far as a pass catching if he can ever stay healthy.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_02]: That's just been the question for him.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: So how does that look with, you know, if Caden Helms gets at it into the mix with Sharon Canick, there's a pass catching option.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that'll be, uh, be fascinating.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: But, yeah,
- 32:57[SPEAKER_02]: plenty this week.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_02]: And I would anticipate some some different kind of things.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_02]: Then we've seen from this team over the first five games of the season real quick.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_03]: The touchdown pass to Caden Helms was that not the ultimate what you want the week before Texas.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_03]: The ultimate I can be put them down on the goal line.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_03]: Slip them out.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my gosh, he's wide open.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_03]: How
- 33:25[SPEAKER_03]: the Texas defense is sitting here going okay watch him when he comes in he's going to be meanwhile they're over they're going to be doing something with canic or somebody some other person way off screen that you can't see it was perfect it was just exactly what you want to dial up right before Texas give them something else to look at give them something to be concerned about make sure they're weekside linebackers see or they're they're rush and
- 33:50[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, he check comes in, waves his arms, checks in or something and they're making an announcement eligible receiver or something.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_03]: There he is, there he is, and then you go completely opposite.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_03]: perfect.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think that might have been the only time that Ben Albaq was like, please, that a run wasn't explosive because that was coming out of a quarter, I think, and they flip into the field.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: Helms us down their combo, and I can't remember if it was with Huggins or Kent, but on the first play, they run to the left, and he's comboing on the end, then they run, exact same look, come back the other way.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: He does the
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: No, but I'm not touching you.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to slip through it.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: I was just like, ah, that is the first off.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: Great for Caden Helms.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_01]: And then it's like, yeah, that's the perfect thing.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like you say in who that pop that out there, bust some tendencies.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: One more thing to to look at.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: Let me ask you guys this.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, how many points you think is going to take broke a bit of witness football game?
- 34:42[SPEAKER_01]: Just simply put it, go around the horn because I don't think it's going to be like, I don't think it's got to be like a ton.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'll say 20.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_03]: I mean,
- 34:49[SPEAKER_03]: I think they'll score maybe 20 and I think 20 is plenty to win the game.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think Texas is going to score anywhere near 20.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to say 24 just above that.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think Texas's offense still has potential.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_00]: The line looked horrible last week against Florida.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe not just a total defense of battle, but I also don't think this is going to be a point's best either.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think I'll go right in between that.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_02]: Probably say 21.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_02]: I think if they score three touchdowns, I think you would like for the defense, not necessarily to get on the board with a defensive touchdown, but at least to get you a turnover, that gets you a really good field position to have a chance to score on a short field there.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_02]: But I think if they're able to do that, if they're able to score three touchdowns,
- 35:34[SPEAKER_02]: They've got a, it's hard to see a team score in that much on Oklahoma right now, especially a team with like Carlton mentioned the offensive line issues that the Texas had because they've been really bad up front and Steve Sarkesian was asked a lot of questions about that.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_02]: on Monday.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, as many concerns as there are on Oklahoma's offensive line, there are more concerns with Texas right now with the way they're rolling along.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_02]: And you've got to think that guys like our Mason Thomas, J. Jackson, David Stone, you know, Marvin Jones Jr.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_02]: Taylor won on and on and on.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_02]: Those guys are sort of, you know, licking their chops at the chance to pin their ears back and get after arch-maning on Saturday.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that that's probably right 17 to 20 somewhere in there and you look at you're like okay well Michael Hawkins junior put 20 points on the board on the road in Auburn last year and you have the the other seven points from Kip Lewis that was a much worse offense when it comes to weapons offensive line health all that stuff I think that both material and in Hawkins are more than capable of putting that up on the board this week and it feels like it's always going to come down to the same thing size that's here.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: who throw has the back break in turnover, who has the interception?
- 36:57[SPEAKER_01]: Is it Quinn yours who started both of the last two games with an interception?
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: Is it a special team's punt block, stuff like that?
- 37:05[SPEAKER_01]: And the other good news too, as you've put this thing around, and yeah, I think it was basically 10 minutes into the Sark press comments when you include the opening statement that he was finally asked about like,
- 37:17[SPEAKER_01]: Do you know if John material my cock and shooters can be playing?
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: Cause it was like every version of, do you have other people that are eligible to play left guard?
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: Do you need to go to the silent count?
- 37:27[SPEAKER_01]: Is it the clap?
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: But it was basically like, this Texas offensive line is absolutely terrible and John, when you look at it, I think that especially what they can't do up the middle, which is block anybody.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: Jade Jackson, Grayson Haltten, Dominic Williams, David Stone, Marcus Strong has splashed.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_01]: And that John is just from the realm of like traditional ordinary vanilla, when you were talking about defensive line play, deep and pressure, all that stuff.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, and we say that Texas's offensive line has been extra ordinary this year.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think that legitimately, if we were like ranking all of the units, whether it's, oh, you receivers, Texas receivers, oh, you offensive line, Texas, I think the Texas offensive line might be the worst unit in this football game.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_03]: So Texas put 12 guys in the NFL draft last year.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_03]: I think three of them were on the offensive line.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_03]: They lost four guys from the offensive line overall.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_03]: That's a school record for Texas, by the way.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_03]: 12 guys getting drafted in one class.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_03]: Pretty amazing, right?
- 38:33[SPEAKER_03]: That's what Sark had to rebuild this year.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_03]: That's what he had to replace.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, you replace four guys on the offensive line.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_03]: I think the right guard is the only one who's returning.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_03]: uh... you're going to have some work to do as everybody in normen knows right and you know you've got some shuffling and that's what's been going on up there there sixty-ninth in the country right now in sacks allowed which i was actually fairly impressed by that the amount of pressure that's been on on uh... arch over the over the first four five games of the season
- 39:02[SPEAKER_03]: You come out of those games thinking, okay, they're probably down in the 80s, 90s, hundreds and sacks allow to be 69th as a testament to arch as a scapability.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_03]: He's been carrying that offense.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_03]: He's not been good.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_03]: He's been at times dreadful.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_03]: His mechanics are terrible, but he's getting himself out of those
- 39:23[SPEAKER_03]: pressure situations.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_03]: He's getting pressured.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_03]: He's getting himself out.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_03]: He's getting hit by the defensive line.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_03]: He's able to make positive yards.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_03]: So he's escaping sex.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_03]: So they should be further down.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_03]: They should be in the 90s and sex allowed.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_03]: Meanwhile.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_03]: you look at the Oklahoma defense guys, this is your defense ranks first in the country in sacks.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_03]: They rank first in the country in a lot of stuff.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_03]: They rank first in total defense, third down defense, quarterback sacks.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_03]: They're number two in past defense.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_03]: They're number two and first down's allowed.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_03]: They're number two in scoring defense.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_03]: They're number five and run defense.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_03]: None of this builds well for the Texas offense, which again, three starters return,
- 40:02[SPEAKER_03]: uh... wise and heard the uh... the run-and-back was i think he's the only s c c returning run-and-back who ran for a thousand yards last year he's not having a great season yet because the offensive line steaks archmaning the greatest um... high school recruit since quaint yours
- 40:20[SPEAKER_03]: maybe he's not having a great season because the offensive line stinks and the receivers who brought some guys back from a really good receiver core last year and added some dudes in the transfer portal.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_03]: They're not having a good year because of course manning is not having a good year because the offensive line stinks.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_03]: So everything is Oklahoma fans know from twenty twenty four boils down to how much can your offensive line do if it can't do very much you can't call very much offense.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's, it is interesting because yes, it's a new offensive line, but with how much money they spent to assemble a, quote, pancake factory or whatever they call it, I think that's the name they have for it.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_00]: They look inept, and yes, arch-maning has not looked good.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_00]: He, as John just said, his mechanics aren't there yet.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_00]: He does not look comfortable, but a lot of it is the offensive line.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's made some really good throws.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_00]: I know Florida, he had some good throws in that game too.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_00]: But because the line, I mean, that's the root of their offensive problems.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen Wisoner, he can run the ball.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_00]: up there with the almato heart, parties, levy almato.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: Some of the best backs in the league.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_00]: I put wisemen on that category.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_00]: Then you got a guy like Ryan Wingo, Jack injuries should be one of the best tight ends in the country after getting him from Cal in the portal.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: They have so many weapons, but they've been so dang inconsistent on the line.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, that's a recipe for disaster when you look at
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: This OU defense against a similarly limping offensive line that Auburn had a couple weeks ago.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, OU won that battle nine times out of ten, jaded Jackson, David Stone.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_00]: Namely, guy that didn't have a big day that saw regular rups in that game.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it was just dominant.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, Texas has to get things figured out very quickly if they don't want to be the team giving up nine, ten sacks in the game.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for sure, because like I said earlier, Oklahoma is going to be, you know, putting their ears back, getting after archmaning.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think OU has to be cognizant of archmaning on the ground though.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, at you look at his rushing numbers.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_02]: He's there leading, uh, Russia.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_02]: right now even with the sacks that they've allowed like we've talked about, but still it's rush for 160 yards to this point.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_02]: I think they've got a force him to make quick decisions, but also be smart about things because if you let him get free then you can at least
- 42:52[SPEAKER_02]: hurt you a little bit there on the ground and we've seen you know Oklahoma at times and not this team this defense this year but at times over the last few years struggle with quarterbacks with some mobility I think they're much better equipped to handle that this year than they have been but you know I think
- 43:15[SPEAKER_02]: Pick your spots and take chances, but also don't be dumb about it and try to do too much, and then wind up over pursuing, and then that's when those big massive chunk plays happen.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I think you've got to at least be cognizant of that if you're Brent Venables in this Oklahoma defense.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_01]: We saw Jack's Arnold was good eight times a couple of big rushes.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't a ton of them, but it was just basically two or three.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_01]: And if, if, if, if, John material with the broken thumb hadn't led all the way back down the field, we were talking about, hey, Jack's now.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: It was the fourth and ten fourth and eleven needed it got twelve and that's the kind of thing though I'm just asked to avoid on top of be just put on the bootleg things like that and it's about limiting the Expo like Oklahoma Stevens gonna have a ton of success So they're gonna ring a bunch of sacks Florida dominated the line of scrimmage That was a defensive line that ranked 134th in sacks coming into that week any They're 114th or 115th in tackles for loss entering last week
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: and they feasted at the I expect local home to be in the backfield as well, but it becomes about can't can you limit the explosive as one of the cobe McKinsey was talking about on Monday night that when Texas gets one of those chunk plays
- 44:32[SPEAKER_01]: they then on those drives lead the country in scoring offense kind of what Kobe was talking about, which is like, yeah, I run the touchdown plate.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: But when you look at it, Oklahoma's been really good at that.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: You think of that same Auburn game, the couple of drives for Coleman has a really, really big catch.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: You think of the second one where they're backed up on the goal line.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_01]: He gets that catch near
- 44:54[SPEAKER_01]: They're midfield and then Oklahoma is able to slowly work it back, aided by some fall starts, some holding stuff like that.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_01]: Feels like, hey, it's all your Texas.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_01]: Offences are gonna pop plays, it's college football.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_01]: No one's gonna be perfect for 60 minutes, four quarters, but Oklahoma this year, John's been really, really good at, okay, you've got the one big plan, as long as that thing doesn't go for a touchdown, their flex, their muscles are finally in the way to field goals, force ponds, get off the field on third and fourth down.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's a recipe for success here in the cotton ball.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_03]: It is an Oklahoma has been exceptional on defense in a lot of those areas.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_03]: Again, Michigan's offense had its limitations.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_03]: We know with those were Auburn's offense.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_03]: at its limitations.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_03]: We know what those were to.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_03]: The other offenses they faced, not very good, so but you know, in the course of five games, you put all the stitch all those together, right?
- 45:47[SPEAKER_03]: You're doing a little patchwork, quilt work kind of thing.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_03]: Each little square in itself is not like the most amazing thing you've ever seen, but when you stitch them together and you've got five games to look at, off of something the Oklahoma Body of Work does look exceptional.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_03]: There's been no like we've seen this guys over the years, over the past 15 years.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Oklahoma's got draft picks on the defense.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma's got all conference players on the defense.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma's got a pretty good defense this year.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma's defense stinks in certain situations and they allow drives to continue and they give up big plays and they couldn't stop the run and then they couldn't stop the pass.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_03]: I couldn't get after the quarterback.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_03]: None of that applies to this year's defense again through five games.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_03]: So that's what I'm really looking forward to seeing is how much of the Sark genius that he's got up here.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_03]: the play calling, the tempo, the timing, how much of that is going to be directly applicable to what we've seen from the Oklahoma defense so far.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_03]: Now, Texas hasn't had much to work with.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_03]: It almost feels like Texas is sandbagging a little bit, doesn't it?
- 46:47[SPEAKER_03]: Like they're limping like the little owl or something that's like, oh, who, who I can't, you know.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_03]: I can't I can't I'm injured please don't anybody come and kill me out in the wild and then you see some I come after and they're like pounds.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, that's probably a lame analogy, but it does feel like Texas is just kind of Limping along like 63rd in the country and scoring 87th and first downs there Excuse me 55th and rushing 56th and passing a 51st overall 69
- 47:21[SPEAKER_03]: in sacks aloud is the one that really stands out to me.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_03]: Their third down offense has been just dreadful, 115th in the country.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_03]: Those two things when you put them against what Oklahoma's done this year.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_03]: Those two things is what's going to tip this game, excuse me guys.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_03]: Those two things is what's going to tip this game toward Oklahoma's favor, I think.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_03]: If you're doing like a confidence factor kind of thing.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_03]: like Oklahoma's defense versus Texas's offense, what's your confidence and Oklahoma's offense?
- 47:53[SPEAKER_03]: Against Texas defense, not very high, 35% maybe.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_03]: It'd be like a 35, 65.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_03]: But if you flip that around and say what's your confidence in Texas's offense against Oklahoma's defense, I'd say 80, 20 for oh you.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_03]: Oh you defense has been that good this year.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't realize that Alba's so predatory, the devious owls sitting there, trying to, trying to, trying to, trying to, trying to, trying to, trying to, they're really smart and they read me and they're like, oh, if they can't get it from out of the sky, they lure them in.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_01]: head on the swivel too.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's what Arches had to have his head on the swivel.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's been turned around backwards a couple times.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: Here's something else too before we even dive into the OU person on defense and it stood out to me as any that were crunching some of the numbers.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_01]: The last two games.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_01]: One of those is a road game at Florida.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: So you would expect offensive while I'm going to struggle with stuff like that.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_01]: Hallm against Sam Houston State two weeks ago.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_01]: Texas eight offensive penalties three fall starts at home against Sam Houston state they had eight offensive penalties again in the swamp against Florida so far through five games 13 fall starts
- 49:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's not just playing at Ohio State.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's not just playing at Florida.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_01]: They have had issues all year long.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_01]: Home, away, nobody, big time defense, nine holding pillars on the album.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know what that tells me?
- 49:16[SPEAKER_01]: They're in their head.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_01]: They know that they're probably going to get beat.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_01]: So they're having to turn and grab somebody or they're they're they're false starting and we know this isn't a road game.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_01]: But, uh, able just because
- 49:29[SPEAKER_01]: you're on the Texas half of the field.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_01]: Or think about a couple of years back, deep into the OU half of the field when Texas Bull started multiple times.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_01]: That was that NFL laden offensive line that Brett Vendibles talks about, that that wall of noise coming from the red half of the cotton bull.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_01]: Part of why Texas has been so bad on third down is that they feel like they've lived in third and the 11, 13, 15 because if they're not getting beat, there are some procedural issues.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's not been a team that has been paying attention to all the details and is majored in the minors as all the coaches like to talk about.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I think if Texas is to find something in this game offensively and turn it around, they have got to clean that up because in a game like this, the environment you talk about, you know, all the other external factors that are different in this game from any other game.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_02]: the team that generally doesn't commit as many penalties and doesn't commit as many turnovers is going to win the game.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_02]: And I think in this one, certainly that's going to be the case.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_02]: And Texas has got to, we talk about the Oklahoma side so much, but Texas,
- 50:45[SPEAKER_02]: If they're they're pets with this game has got to be playing cleaner than than they have because like you said it's not just the environments that they've gone into it's not just Ohio State in you know Florida it's been an every game issue and those things get magnified in this game as we've seen.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying that, you know, they have to necessarily win the penalty battle because we've seen, you know, some teams, heck, I think about that Oklahoma or offense with Orlando Brown, not too well, it's been a while ago at this point, but I'm getting old.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_02]: But you know, that one had a nasty mean edge to it, so they got a fair amount of like personal foul calls, but they were so good that they could overcome that.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_02]: And the, you know, benefit of that was greater a lot of times than just that the 15 yards, but you cannot get those procedures off side skulls, things like that and expect to be a team whose defense is good as Oklahoma.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_01]: Especially team Carson that's got veteran line backers and Kove McKenzie kip blew his kipps played a big role in this game before That's where it was just coming out part of kip blew us two years ago basically saying like yeah If you need a penetrator on the goal line I'm here to deliver your goal line stop and then you look at another Jane Jackson and down at Williams didn't give it a go on Saturdays so but it looked like Carson that
- 52:14[SPEAKER_01]: those guys were per costume will they pop up on the availability port will see tonight but those look like dudes that uh... if they needed to go they would have gone and and that entire of its line has feast
- 52:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that just the entire front seven has been ridiculous.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the depth is one of the most impressive parts of it, especially I know, yes, we've talked about.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_00]: We said this so many times.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_00]: It was Kent State, relax.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_00]: But look at how many guys in games were oh, you've gotten big leads guys like Taylor Wein, Taylor Hime for that matter, Marcus Strong.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_00]: Guys on the front that art starters probably won't be starters for the rest of the year that I've looked Awesome, and then you'll you bring in your stars or grace and Holton's Dominic Williams, Jayden Jackson, everybody pretty much on the edge at this point That is a huge key in this game the second area is good, but I mean you got Eli Bowen and
- 53:06[SPEAKER_00]: Coming back from an injury might be a little bit rusty, Portland Gillary.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen that he's going to be a very good player in this defense, still a freshman though.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like the bread and butter of this defense is the front of it and it's been good time and time again.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_00]: You look at Jeremiah Cobb and Justice Haynes both phenomenal running backs that OU has stopped.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_00]: Both of them had one really long run.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_00]: Each I think Cobb's went for 40 hands is went for 75, but aside from those two plays, OU's defense did a phenomenal job and those are
- 53:35[SPEAKER_00]: Those are two backs that we'll probably be seeing on Sunday's one day both phenomenal players Haynes has some of the best numbers in the country this year.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, those two games show me the most that I'm confident in as far as they can play some really good running backs.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_00]: Wisoner fits that bill, but he used defense is more than up for the task.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_03]: I think, shout out to OU's defensive line here, David Stone ranks number one, according to pro football focus among all SEC defensive tackles and his defensive rating and his run pass pass rush rating.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_03]: or was that run, run, run defense, and then our Mason Thomas leads the adressors.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_03]: I think he leads the country in adress percentage, win rate, whatever their metric is.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_03]: They've got two of the top guys interior and adressor in the country through the first five games, just remarkable.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's uh, and it feels like for armies to do not, not that he's been bad in the first couple of games, but his brunt likes to say every everything is right on time, it reminds me of last year a lot of armacin was really close, really, really close early, then it was like the two lane game where he finally was able to hit home in the fourth quarter.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_01]: Then he wrecked shop on the last drive of the Auburn game and he kind of picked up that closer nickname Well, took him one two snaps.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_01]: It once it was back to the second half gets Auburn finally to the quarterback and see it like he's just a guy that early in the year once that happens All the pressure kind of washes away.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's an absolute menace, and I think that's gonna be huge Abraham when you talk about I don't know what the formula is gonna be for the second dairy.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_01]: Do you roll?
- 55:18[SPEAKER_01]: Gentry and Eli Bowen first even if you know Eli Bowen's not going to play hundreds of the steps Cortland's going to be in that rotation.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't know if it's like a You start with your veterans and then you ease Cortland Gillar into the game or Cortland Gillar has been starting for you the whole time You just roll them out there and figured out between Gentry and Eli and all those guys are going to rotate a time like they're all going to play
- 55:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't think there's any doubt about that, but I think in this game, experience, you know, as who've talked about with his quarterback stat from earlier, in this game, experience can mean so much, and maybe, and heck, maybe it depends on which end of the field you start on.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_02]: that, you know, do you, you know, throw, you know, courtland in if they're at the, the OU into the field versus the Texas end, where you might feel more comfortable going with gentry or, or Eli to start.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_02]: But I think certainly we'll see all of those guys.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_02]: It'll be fascinating to see just what the secondary rotation looks like.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I had Kendall Dolby as my sort of under the radar guy last week because of, you know, looking toward this game, how much does he play, how does he factor into things?
- 56:33[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen, you know, Kendall Daniels be used, uh, so many different ways.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that'll be fascinating to see how all of those pieces fit together.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_02]: But they certainly are going to need big time plays from all of those guys, but I think certainly Portland gallery needs to take some steps forward, and I'll be fascinated to see just how far Eli Bowen is around.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_02]: We saw him play a decent amount of snaps last week.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_02]: I think what was it somewhere around 25?
- 57:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think that was a good baseline for him.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_02]: But certainly he'll be tested in a way that he hasn't this year Saturday.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_02]: But last year he was really good in those kind of situations where he's matched up with big time players.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_02]: And we'll see if he's ready for that again on Saturday.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, go ahead.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about, I think Carson said the OU secondary has been pretty good.
- 57:34[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, so what if the question is, our guys in our quarterbacks opposing quarterbacks holding the ball so long, right?
- 57:41[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen this three or four times, Jackson Arnold, the kid, the long-haired kid from a Kent State the kid remembers named Drew last week.
- 57:49[SPEAKER_03]: Guys are holding the football so long.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_03]: Is it because the receivers are covered that well?
- 57:54[SPEAKER_01]: are we are not given enough credit to the OU secondary for producing all those sacks and all those pressures uh... there were runners uh... open against kids state that quarterback was a joke so i'm going to go with no on that uh... jackson Arnold is that the other secondary is that jackson art like the i'm asking jackson and that's the football
- 58:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_03]: And then Bryce Underwood's a true freshman.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_01]: So, well, Michigan's problem is that if this pogey was the head coach, we might have had an actual good offensive battle there.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_01]: They should, Sean Moore's going to run into the Colosseum.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_01]: He put the handcuffs back on Bryce Underwood and they're like survive.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_03]: That's my run, I was taking out the chain saw when it's necessary.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_01]: Let's like, it's like, I told you, it's like, I told you, post game, I don't think Sharamor is going to be there in three years.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_01]: Just look, look at what happened with Biff and they open it up.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's huge, but here's the good thing though.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the site has been pretty good.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's just been a couple of spots here and there.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_01]: Last year.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_01]: one of the only players who like might want to remember the Texas game was Eli Bowen.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_01]: He was like one of the few bright spots post the the pair of fumbles right before half or suddenly the game was busted open.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_01]: It was just like a headache.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_01]: Two years ago, outside of doing Gabriel, hard not to hard to deny doing Gabriel.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_01]: hard to deny Walter Rouse blocking two guys at once on that final step of the game.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_01]: Ginger Williams might have been the other like best player in that game, though.
- 59:21[SPEAKER_01]: He had the interception early where he jumped the slant to to help Oklahoma.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_01]: He had the big pop that was that was that Dolby ended up with the pick on the Texas goal line after a little bit.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_01]: or was that the Billy in the Dolby that combined and then Gentry had another one where he basically forced a bumbley.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember what it was, but Gentry was excellent two years ago in this game.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_01]: You've got two corners that have played well in the cotton bowl and I think that might be worth more than the golden hat.
- 59:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like, as far as just monetarily go into this game, you want the golden hat, but that's gold to have two of those guys that have shown out and had great performances on Fairport.
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Oklahoma's got if you look at the roster, Oklahoma's got guys that have been through this particular battle before and they've got guys like the two transfers we mentioned, you know, Kendall, Kendall Daniels and Marvin Jones guys who have been in big games.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_03]: So, yeah, I mean, they just those dudes came in and they absolutely just strengthened what Oklahoma's bringing back and principles is bringing back on this defense.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_01]: They've also got someone that can help the defense out and the offense when we get to the third phase of this game, the special teams, it's always massively important.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like these games are defined almost by special teams.
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_01]: You look at it.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_01]: Texas is in the hundreds in net hunting.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma is right up there in the top five gray similar has been a weapon for this Oklahoma defense yet another one against Kent State that rolled out there at the one and when you look at Texas having the trouble with that funny now Texas has a good return game uh Texas and then both Isaiah Centane it really good returners but uh Oklahoma's cover team's been really good and Texas has has not really done a good job of flipping the field and if this is a
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_01]: KGR, lower scoring game cards.
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we went through this with the Michigan game, went through this with the Auburn game, where at times, the task of the offense is actually, like if you get points, yes, that's awesome.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_01]: But can you pick up two first downs and make sure that graceability didn't have to punt from the orange grass or the red grass?
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_01]: Can, can you make that happen?
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_01]: Because, uh, Oklahoma's been really, really, really good.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_01]: And across the board, especially outside of like,
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_01]: Drop the fumble and head the ref in the kicker against Michigan.
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_01]: Texas said the punk block against Florida, but an absentee of that local home has been pretty steady.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, special teams has been fantastic.
- 1:01:47[SPEAKER_00]: And my not our mind you guys, my bold prediction this year was Tate Sandel wins the Grosa.
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_00]: Not saying that's gonna happen, but he's looked pretty dang good this year.
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_00]: After that first mis against Michigan hasn't missed sense.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_00]: So he's been fantastic, Miller.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you gotta feel a little sympathy for Jacob Oritch coming in.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_00]: Punna, a couple times, well against Illinois State, but Miller is just coming and been a star.
- 1:02:11[SPEAKER_00]: That last punt that he had against Kent State that you just mentioned Ryan, that was a beauty of a kick.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_00]: Just couldn't have drawn it up better than it ended up.
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_00]: But it will be huge for whether it's Hawkins, materially leading the offense.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_00]: Get the guy in some decent situations to punt.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_00]: Don't be punting from your own 10 yard line.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yes, Miller has a good leg.
- 1:02:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 1:02:32[SPEAKER_00]: He can do it far.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_00]: So it might not be the worst case situation if you position wise, but I mean, when you have a punner that that's that good at pinning opponents inside the 20 the 10, however close to the goal line utilize what you can even if it's not.
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like you just said, cross the board, special teams is not been an issue.
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_01]: Aber a Texas move to kick Bird Auburn out the door and bring in Mason Shipley from Texas State as a kicker.
- 1:03:10[SPEAKER_01]: Who would have thought it's the UTSA transfers that is the transfer from the state of Texas that we've been coming in?
- 1:03:15[SPEAKER_01]: You'll look at say now, he's one of 13 kickers that's hit multiple 50 yard attempts this year and for Shipley and had a couple that are right under that too.
- 1:03:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, he had a wide range of yarder.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_02]: His only time where he's kicked long ones.
- 1:03:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_01]: And he's also kicked in the Michigan game and the Auburn Gate which are two like important games too.
- 1:03:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're starting to see the confidence, the swagger, the, you know, that kind of attitude that brim venables talked about seeing from Tate Sandell over the off season and talked about,
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_02]: Well, probably one of the most surprising things that we heard at SEC media day was when Brent Venables was talking about Tate Sandel and how strong he talked about the confidence, the attitude, you know, said he was, you know, approached things like an NFL kicker in that way.
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_02]: And he certainly after that Michigan, which was still fairly long when was it 44, I think
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he has been so good, you know, Grayson Miller, again, has been fantastic as a satania, you know, seems like it's inevitable that he's going to break one at some point.
- 1:04:42[SPEAKER_02]: If he's able to do that on Saturday, that would be a big, you know, push in, oh, use favor.
- 1:04:49[SPEAKER_02]: But how about, oh, you, it seems like, you know, the last couple years, they've made a decision
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_02]: And for some reason, they've had to change and last year, you know, Luke Elzinga was phenomenal for them.
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_02]: And now, Grace and Miller appears to, you know, be following a very similar path.
- 1:05:11[SPEAKER_03]: Doug Deacon, playing some major major league chess in the transfer portal, and I mean, holy cow.
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_03]: Early returns for national coach of the year from the transfer portal if there is such a thing.
- 1:05:24[SPEAKER_03]: You got Satania, you got Sandell and got Grayson Miller and just kind of some of these guys just find them like, oh, this is he used to play soccer, he'll be alright.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, on a team with so many great stories, I mean, we talk about Owen Heineke and his path to where he is right now contributing to this defense, you talk about John
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_02]: and so many other guys who have had these circuitous routes that have led them to Oklahoma in this sort of perfect storm.
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Grayson Miller might be at the top of that list.
- 1:06:03[SPEAKER_02]: To be playing soccer at what was it, love it Christian, I think.
- 1:06:07[SPEAKER_02]: And then to wind up a, you know, kicking at UCO much closer to home and then make the transition to OU has just been phenomenal and, you know, as out of left field is as any story that I can think about in a long, long time with it reminds me of the Dominique Willie.
- 1:06:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, yeah, it's a very similar story.
- 1:06:30[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's the one that, uh, some way similar.
- 1:06:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Mason, maybe Grayson Miller worked at a subway shop in Norman at some point, but hey, whatever it is, it is worked for this special teams unit because they've been fantastic all around.
- 1:06:47[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, not only with those groups, but the coverage groups,
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_02]: as well.
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Elijah Thomas, you see him reckoned up, you know, who would have thought that Elijah Thomas would have more tackles than catches at this point, but he's been a very effective special team player for them.
- 1:07:05[SPEAKER_02]: And certainly that wasn't something that was expected, but, you know, they've been really good all around and I think you've got to give Doug Deacon a lot of credit for the job that he's done and putting together these special teams groups.
- 1:07:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's been not pretty incredible.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna play a huge role on Saturday.
- 1:07:26[SPEAKER_01]: Every Friday, we get around, start projecting, final score predictions, all that stuff.
- 1:07:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not gonna ask you to put a score out at jail of it because we'll publish that Oklahoma suitors on side.com, it's place to be for that.
- 1:07:38[SPEAKER_01]: But who kind of,
- 1:07:40[SPEAKER_01]: How do you see this thing playing out?
- 1:07:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's a big game, it's massive for so many reasons.
- 1:07:44[SPEAKER_01]: From the Texas side of things, if you lose this game, you're done.
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like the seasons over.
- 1:07:49[SPEAKER_01]: You walk out of the cotton ball, three and three, two losses at this point in the season before you even get to, they have to go to Georgia later on, that A&M game A&M looks fantastic.
- 1:07:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like they're just dead in the water, done.
- 1:08:01[SPEAKER_01]: You flip it around.
- 1:08:03[SPEAKER_01]: you only have one loss in conference if you can find a way to pull this thing out of the fire you've got some new life and for Oklahoma weather materials back or it's hawkins leading the way I mean you win this one and you're gonna unquestionably be in that conversation right at the front can you not only make a CFP and be one of those he was bounced around can you roll that to Columbia next week and can you continue to stay on this path and
- 1:08:26[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe have an inside track to get to Atlanta depending on how the rest of October kind of works out.
- 1:08:32[SPEAKER_01]: How do you uh, it's a full errand for us to project how we think this is going to go because in the first quarter there's going to be seven dumb things or whatever, but we're going to try.
- 1:08:43[SPEAKER_03]: I covered those 2013-2014 games where one team was a double digit favorite and ended up losing by the double digits.
- 1:08:51[SPEAKER_03]: Like, so you just, it's worthless to try to predict what's going to happen in this game.
- 1:08:56[SPEAKER_03]: It's just so crazy.
- 1:08:57[SPEAKER_03]: But I'm really, really, really struggling to find an avenue where Texas wins this football game.
- 1:09:05[SPEAKER_03]: I think this could go one of two got two ways, guys.
- 1:09:08[SPEAKER_03]: I think Oklahoma could win a, Oklahoma could win a club's game, there's no doubt.
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_03]: The way I see it shaking out is Texas, Oklahoma makes a bunch of mistakes.
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_03]: Texas capitalizes gets a fumble return or something like that, scoop and score.
- 1:09:22[SPEAKER_03]: And Texas ends up winning a close game.
- 1:09:25[SPEAKER_03]: I'd say there's about a 30, 35, 40% chance that happens.
- 1:09:29[SPEAKER_03]: The real big chance of something happening, the way I've been evaluating this game, oh wait, I think Oklahoma wins in a blowout.
- 1:09:35[SPEAKER_03]: I think Oklahoma could absolutely mop the floor.
- 1:09:42[SPEAKER_03]: And as forced, 40 punts, what?
- 1:09:46[SPEAKER_03]: That's insane.
- 1:09:47[SPEAKER_03]: So, against this Texas offense, they could get overwhelmed.
- 1:09:53[SPEAKER_03]: It could be something where when you're that good at the line of scramage compared to your opponent in this game, we've seen it.
- 1:10:01[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen white balance.
- 1:10:02[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen historic blowouts.
- 1:10:04[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen shutouts.
- 1:10:05[SPEAKER_03]: So when that happens,
- 1:10:08[SPEAKER_03]: don't be surprised if Oklahoma wins this thing, something like 38 to 10.
- 1:10:12[SPEAKER_03]: Seriously, I'm not saying that's my final prediction.
- 1:10:16[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just saying if that happens, don't be surprised.
- 1:10:19[SPEAKER_03]: The problem is this.
- 1:10:21[SPEAKER_03]: OK, so let's quickly reassess where Texas came from.
- 1:10:26[SPEAKER_03]: Texas this year came from, socks last two seasons, winning the big 12, and then going into the SEC, getting into the playoff.
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_03]: That's a by that that produced where we're out right now with Texas starting the season for the first time in school history as the preseason I'm on.
- 1:10:46[SPEAKER_03]: Seriously, first time in school history, preseason number one, Texas had a complete rebuild, so our cat a complete offensive rebuild, especially for the offenses I said.
- 1:10:57[SPEAKER_03]: They became, as a result, the fastest team in history to go from preseason number one to out of the polls, they did it in five, while six short weeks, the previous record was USC who did it in 12 weeks.
- 1:11:10[SPEAKER_03]: So it took USC to do it to go from number one
- 1:11:17[SPEAKER_03]: That's a real problem for Texas.
- 1:11:19[SPEAKER_03]: They've hired an offensive-minded coach and guess what, the offense this year stinks.
- 1:11:23[SPEAKER_03]: The offensive line stinks, the quarterback stinks.
- 1:11:26[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody else on the roster's just kind of mad.
- 1:11:29[SPEAKER_03]: And they've done all this, think about this guys.
- 1:11:31[SPEAKER_03]: Texas has done all this.
- 1:11:34[SPEAKER_03]: by stacking one root top rank recruiting class after another after another.
- 1:11:38[SPEAKER_03]: They've done it with what's been reported as a roster that's uh... uh... commands forty million dollars they've got the deepest pockets in the country in all of college football they've got an endless n i l and revenue short revenue share resources and they've got archmanning and they're three and two
- 1:11:55[SPEAKER_03]: I think Texas could be teetering.
- 1:11:57[SPEAKER_03]: I really think Texas could be on the verge of having a five or six lost season.
- 1:12:03[SPEAKER_03]: And this thing, if it gets sideways quick, they could find themselves getting blown out.
- 1:12:08[SPEAKER_00]: It'll be interesting to see for sure.
- 1:12:11[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just presuming that Michael Hawkins plays, I don't have a whole lot of faith in what OU's offense can do.
- 1:12:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, there are a lot better around Michael Hawkins than they were last year.
- 1:12:21[SPEAKER_00]: Michael Hawkins is certainly developed a little bit, but there are still so many things that you look at and you're like, that's an inconsistency right there.
- 1:12:28[SPEAKER_00]: Most notably his footwork.
- 1:12:30[SPEAKER_00]: If he's the guy, I think it's an ugly game.
- 1:12:34[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think it could go either way.
- 1:12:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't see either team necessarily pulling away.
- 1:12:38[SPEAKER_00]: Um, the good news though is I feel like in an ugly game with OU being led by Michael Hawkins against Texas defense.
- 1:12:46[SPEAKER_00]: I still feel like the advantage is much more.
- 1:12:49[SPEAKER_00]: bigger for Hawkins and the OU offense than it is for Texas's inept offense against OU's really dang good defense.
- 1:12:57[SPEAKER_00]: I just think it could be one of those games where maybe it is first to 15 points wins the game.
- 1:13:04[SPEAKER_00]: But if material plays, yes, he's never played in this game.
- 1:13:07[SPEAKER_00]: Neither is archmanning.
- 1:13:09[SPEAKER_00]: That would be, that would make things a little bit more fortuitous for Oklahoma.
- 1:13:14[SPEAKER_00]: We saw what he's done against very good Auburn and Michigan defense is thus far.
- 1:13:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's a crazy atmosphere.
- 1:13:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he's going to make some mistakes.
- 1:13:22[SPEAKER_00]: I still think with how good the defense is, materials, poison.
- 1:13:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think the game could get out of hand in that scenario.
- 1:13:30[SPEAKER_00]: But if it is Hawkins, I think it's low scoring.
- 1:13:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's ugly.
- 1:13:33[SPEAKER_00]: But I'd still think, oh, you has a better chance than Texas does.
- 1:13:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I'm right there with you Carson, I think that, you know, if if John material plays, oh, you has a chance to sort of run away and hide with it, if Michael Hawkins plays, I don't think that that happens.
- 1:13:52[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think they they blow it out, but
- 1:13:54[SPEAKER_02]: When you look at the the range of possibilities, I think a Texas blowout win is the one that I would you know eliminate from from that table there I think Texas path to win is to keep it close to force big you know special teams or defensive points and able to win like that for for Oklahoma.
- 1:14:16[SPEAKER_02]: play it clean, you know, I think a Michael Hawkins is able to come in there and I think, you know, you ask me right now, I'm going to bet on John material plan in this game.
- 1:14:27[SPEAKER_02]: But if it's Michael Hawkins, avoid turnovers.
- 1:14:31[SPEAKER_02]: Don't have a, you know, a start like the South Carolina came last year where it was just over five minutes in because your inability to hold on to the ball, be smart, late your defense, do a lot of the heavy heavy lifting and then just be able to take advantage when they do that.
- 1:14:49[SPEAKER_02]: So I think this is going to be a fairly low scoring game, you know, I think about that the superman game and the way that that that game sort of played out the low scoring nature that one.
- 1:14:59[SPEAKER_02]: What was it 12 though.
- 1:15:01[SPEAKER_02]: there.
- 1:15:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think we're not necessarily thinking that this is going to be that low scoring game, but let's not write off the Texas quite yet.
- 1:15:10[SPEAKER_02]: They have all those problems.
- 1:15:12[SPEAKER_02]: The offense aligns a mess, the running game hasn't been very good at all, but they've still got a defense that can jump up and bite you.
- 1:15:21[SPEAKER_02]: And if you let them stay in it, they can get some confidence and get things roll in there.
- 1:15:28[SPEAKER_02]: So I think for OU, it's about getting off to a quick start avoiding turnovers.
- 1:15:34[SPEAKER_02]: And if those happen, I think Oklahoma comes out with a
- 1:15:39[SPEAKER_02]: You know, not a, you know, 63 to nothing win anything like that, but they can win fairly handily if they're able to do those things.
- 1:15:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's a, I like the way that the pathway is to victory, a, the last three years, I think that Texas has had more pathways to victory, they went two and one of those.
- 1:16:03[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, that doesn't mean that if you can see a more pathway to victory, necessarily that you are like condemned to lose, I think that my clock and shooter is more than capable of winning this football game with the Oklahoma that's what they have to deal with.
- 1:16:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I look to that Auburn game of year ago.
- 1:16:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's the path forward.
- 1:16:18[SPEAKER_01]: You have really good defense.
- 1:16:20[SPEAKER_01]: and this Oklahoma defense even better than that Oklahoma defense was and he converted on a big time run that was phenomenal and then he nailed JJ Hester for a big one and he just got better weapons.
- 1:16:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think that you feel even better about it if John McTears got that, but I do think one thing's going to happen and this is not like a bold prediction.
- 1:16:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is going to happen.
- 1:16:41[SPEAKER_01]: Did you guys remember that the notable happening at the 2019 Oklahoma Texas game?
- 1:16:49[SPEAKER_03]: Jail on her steps.
- 1:16:51[SPEAKER_03]: Interceptions at first, didn't he?
- 1:16:52[SPEAKER_01]: And then came back and carried the team?
- 1:16:54[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma comes out and sets a red river shootout record, nine sacks from the so-called defense in 2019.
- 1:17:01[SPEAKER_01]: That was like the crowning achievement ride of Alex Grinch and the havoc and all that stuff.
- 1:17:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma against a much better Auburn offensive line has already had nine sacks this year.
- 1:17:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're going to set a school record.
- 1:17:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think Texas offensive line.
- 1:17:14[SPEAKER_01]: is that bad?
- 1:17:15[SPEAKER_01]: And they have been that bad.
- 1:17:17[SPEAKER_01]: The Florida D line is not good and they just had six.
- 1:17:20[SPEAKER_01]: Why can't Oklahoma go out there and have 10?
- 1:17:22[SPEAKER_01]: They also showed two.
- 1:17:24[SPEAKER_01]: Typically, when you think about that, it's got to be, oh my gosh, Oklahoma's jumped out in front.
- 1:17:28[SPEAKER_01]: So Texas have to drop back to pass 50 times stuff like that.
- 1:17:32[SPEAKER_01]: There was a tight game against operative in the defensive line.
- 1:17:35[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, basically.
- 1:17:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not kidding.
- 1:17:37[SPEAKER_01]: I legitimately think Oklahoma's got a real shot to get to A, get to nine, even set that
- 1:17:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to be the difference, and I think if John material plays this game's not going to particularly be close.
- 1:17:49[SPEAKER_03]: If they get that many sex, it's a blow up.
- 1:17:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I absolutely agree there.
- 1:18:00[SPEAKER_02]: And so Chapman, so no taking away a Marvin Jones Jr.
- 1:18:05[SPEAKER_02]: sack this time around.
- 1:18:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's what you're saying.
- 1:18:07[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Marvin can't, nothing good can stay with Marvin.
- 1:18:10[SPEAKER_01]: So like, I think that this time maybe he like gets the sack but there's like an off side on the other side of the field, like a misaligned corner or something.
- 1:18:17[SPEAKER_01]: And he just like, I had the face mask.
- 1:18:20[SPEAKER_01]: I had the horse cut could someone just leave my sack on the board, please.
- 1:18:26[SPEAKER_03]: That's funny.
- 1:18:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, if it's, if it's that one side it up front and I agree with you Ryan, I think it very well could be then this thing gets in the 30s or 40s because, oh, use offense is going to get chance after chance after chance, if that's the case.
- 1:18:41[SPEAKER_03]: So half of those 40 ponds, more than half, 23 of those 40 ponds have been on a three and out situation, I think.
- 1:18:49[SPEAKER_03]: where the other teams opposing offense is just getting smothered on every drive.
- 1:18:54[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, if that happens, games are the over.
- 1:18:58[SPEAKER_03]: Because the Texas offensive line like you said has been bad.
- 1:19:00[SPEAKER_03]: And frankly, the Texas offense has been bad.
- 1:19:03[SPEAKER_03]: Manning has held the ball too long.
- 1:19:05[SPEAKER_03]: in some situations.
- 1:19:07[SPEAKER_03]: He's saved them by escaping and getting out and even running for first downs, but he's also held the ball too long.
- 1:19:12[SPEAKER_03]: He gets a little pressure.
- 1:19:13[SPEAKER_03]: It's feet get happy.
- 1:19:15[SPEAKER_03]: His arm angle gets wonky.
- 1:19:17[SPEAKER_03]: He's just, he's the accuracy goes down.
- 1:19:19[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, here's my question, guys, is if you're Texas and you're coming off those two really good years, right?
- 1:19:26[SPEAKER_03]: And you're on the
- 1:19:37[SPEAKER_03]: How many other of the 135 teams in the country could go in on the road at Ohio State in Florida?
- 1:19:45[SPEAKER_03]: That was so weak.
- 1:19:46[SPEAKER_03]: I thought that was so weak.
- 1:19:47[SPEAKER_03]: Come on.
- 1:19:48[SPEAKER_03]: That's your defense for going 3 and 2 is that you had to go to Ohio State and you had to go to Florida.
- 1:19:56[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, here's the
- 1:19:59[SPEAKER_03]: not a lot of teams choose to go into the horse shoe and compete.
- 1:20:02[SPEAKER_03]: And if you think about it, frankly, the ones, the few who do choose to, they usually don't win.
- 1:20:08[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, oh, you did way back in 2017, right?
- 1:20:11[SPEAKER_03]: But no, no shame losing to the buck guys in Columbus.
- 1:20:14[SPEAKER_03]: I think where Sarc stuck his foot in the mouth, this, this week was, oh, we went to the swamp.
- 1:20:20[SPEAKER_03]: The swamp, it's so hard to play there.
- 1:20:22[SPEAKER_03]: Guys, I looked it up.
- 1:20:24[SPEAKER_03]: I looked it up.
- 1:20:25[SPEAKER_03]: I've got that stat right here.
- 1:20:26[SPEAKER_03]: Actually, I don't have to google it.
- 1:20:29[SPEAKER_03]: as they say.
- 1:20:30[SPEAKER_03]: Over the last 10 seasons, Florida's home record is 44 and 14.
- 1:20:34[SPEAKER_03]: It's not bad.
- 1:20:36[SPEAKER_03]: But that's not the house of horrors.
- 1:20:37[SPEAKER_03]: 44 and 14.
- 1:20:40[SPEAKER_03]: They've had two undefeated home records in the last 10 years.
- 1:20:44[SPEAKER_03]: None since 2019.
- 1:20:47[SPEAKER_03]: That includes checks notes.
- 1:20:49[SPEAKER_03]: A loss this year too.
- 1:20:52[SPEAKER_03]: South Florida.
- 1:20:53[SPEAKER_03]: South Florida came into the swamp.
- 1:20:56[SPEAKER_03]: South Florida bulls.
- 1:20:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, came into the swamp and on.
- 1:20:58[SPEAKER_03]: Now, if you're sark, here's the deal.
- 1:21:00[SPEAKER_03]: I get it.
- 1:21:00[SPEAKER_03]: Your taxes.
- 1:21:01[SPEAKER_03]: You got to tell everybody how hard your schedule is, right?
- 1:21:04[SPEAKER_03]: If Florida goes 44 and 14 over the last 10 years, hey, that's pretty good.
- 1:21:08[SPEAKER_03]: You know why?
- 1:21:08[SPEAKER_03]: Because Texas is only 43 and 14 at home over the last 10 years.
- 1:21:13[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, that's a hard place to play.
- 1:21:16[SPEAKER_03]: And I tell you what, Sark can straight up miss me with how tough it is to play this
- 1:21:22[SPEAKER_03]: Come on.
- 1:21:23[SPEAKER_03]: For the first two years of OU and Texas being in the SEC, you guys, I believe the strength of schedule rankings depending on who you follow, Oklahoma's number 1 or 2, and Texas's number 13, 14, or 15, in the SEC.
- 1:21:37[SPEAKER_03]: So we all know that Texas has been given a massive, you know, a thank you from Greg Sanky so to speak when it comes to the schedule.
- 1:21:47[SPEAKER_02]: Come on, and that kind of talk is not going to play in Austin, especially if they lose Saturday, you know, you could say, all you want about.
- 1:21:57[SPEAKER_02]: the coaching hot seat and everything like that.
- 1:22:00[SPEAKER_02]: But when you lose, if your Texas and you lose those three games and you're talking like that, that hot seat starts getting cranked up just a little bit in Texas because the patients, where's thin there, especially when they start here in excuses like that because they're not looking to get any kind of moral victories or anything like that.
- 1:22:25[SPEAKER_02]: That stuff plays out at North Texas where South Florida's going to be on Friday night this week.
- 1:22:33[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't play at, uh, at, uh, in Austin.
- 1:22:38[SPEAKER_00]: Listen, I can kind of get behind Sark when he's talking about who else wins at the shoe against Ohio State, defending national champion.
- 1:22:46[SPEAKER_00]: That is one of the best atmospheres in college football.
- 1:22:48[SPEAKER_00]: There's still the number one team.
- 1:22:50[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of hear them there.
- 1:22:52[SPEAKER_00]: Florida, that's an inept team.
- 1:22:53[SPEAKER_00]: And yes, this swamp is a hard place to play even if the record isn't just amazing there over the last five or six years.
- 1:23:00[SPEAKER_00]: That is an inept team with a lagway who I think is fighting an injury.
- 1:23:04[SPEAKER_00]: He looks injured right now.
- 1:23:05[SPEAKER_00]: Billy Napier's seat is as hot as anyone's right now, that team will us to sell Florida at home.
- 1:23:11[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think there are
- 1:23:14[SPEAKER_00]: at the very least 20 teams with a less talent than Texas has that could probably win at this one right now in college football.
- 1:23:21[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that's too high of a number but there are plenty of teams that can do it especially when you look at the dudes in that part of a comment not Ohio State.
- 1:23:30[SPEAKER_00]: I understand you start.
- 1:23:31[SPEAKER_00]: The second half.
- 1:23:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, go play for it in this swamp.
- 1:23:34[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of teams in the league have to do that and it's just yeah that's that is like Aper just said
- 1:23:43[SPEAKER_01]: Do you say that Steve Sarkesian was dangerously close to labeling their position as better than most?
- 1:23:51[SPEAKER_02]: They're close.
- 1:23:52[SPEAKER_02]: They're close, Ryan.
- 1:23:53[SPEAKER_02]: They're close.
- 1:23:55[SPEAKER_01]: real close.
- 1:23:56[SPEAKER_01]: One better than most mentioned means I have to inform you guys.
- 1:24:00[SPEAKER_01]: We will actually have four bodies inside the cotton ball on Saturday.
- 1:24:04[SPEAKER_01]: Who of course and I will all be up.
- 1:24:06[SPEAKER_01]: Who can I put the box, Carson, the field.
- 1:24:08[SPEAKER_01]: The great great entrant will be all man on the street.
- 1:24:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's actually going to be in Dallas at the game.
- 1:24:11[SPEAKER_01]: So if there's any fights in the stands or anything like that, he will be on top of that.
- 1:24:15[SPEAKER_01]: A we're just going to be right in point from home.
- 1:24:16[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be all over the place.
- 1:24:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like Spider-Man.
- 1:24:18[SPEAKER_01]: But one better than most means one great one.
- 1:24:21[SPEAKER_03]: He'll be right in the middle.
- 1:24:22[SPEAKER_03]: If there's any fights in the stands, look for Brady.
- 1:24:24[SPEAKER_03]: He'll be right there.
- 1:24:26[SPEAKER_01]: No, I think that Brady just look around and be like, well, this seems maybe have another beer and love everyone.
- 1:24:32[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, put some in Taluk on and relax.
- 1:24:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, maybe Brady, you know, starts doing, starts crowdsurfing during the game.
- 1:24:42[SPEAKER_01]: now that would be something we'd have him write about that.
- 1:24:45[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to find all of our game coverage, it's overflowing all over the place you pop open one of these floorboards you look under.
- 1:24:54[SPEAKER_01]: We got stories all over the place.
- 1:24:55[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma Studios on SI.com is the place to be I think we have written every word that can possibly be written about Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 1:25:04[SPEAKER_01]: about, uh, John material, all that fun stuff, Carson had a story on how the offensive lines getting ready for this bad boy, especially with three pieces on that group that have never been ever played to know you Texas game, Brady today wrote about Kobe McKinsey and how Oklahoma's viewing this Texas offense, how big a game this is for Brent Benables, well, Brady Trent was going to tell you as well as Ryan Avery, we're going to have some tail of the tape style stuff all Thursday, all Friday,
- 1:25:26[SPEAKER_01]: who has the advantage is what can be pressed upon here that will be decisive.
- 1:25:31[SPEAKER_01]: We'll have all that and so much once you just keep going to Oakland soon or so on s i dot com book market tell your friends that is the place to be the next time you'll hear from us will be from the press box at the cotton bull who haven't I'll tell you if the Wi-Fi worked or not that's just our simply put all we want to know uh... we'll have to have heard Ryan
- 1:25:51[SPEAKER_02]: just to to go back to a point you made very early that the bolted down seats are no more.
- 1:25:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're gone.
- 1:25:57[SPEAKER_01]: They're gone.
- 1:25:58[SPEAKER_01]: We just normal chair.
- 1:26:00[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't that's not a selfish list.
- 1:26:03[SPEAKER_01]: Who've and I have also a red on the queue experiences, but two years ago, who've and I also had the pleasure of it's an old stadium, we get it, it doesn't have a ton of bells, all use pressboxes have a ton of like bells and whistles so it's not like we're sitting up in a client or something like that.
- 1:26:19[SPEAKER_01]: One thing I use pressboxes does have those all the windows on their tracks that you can open them or close them.
- 1:26:24[SPEAKER_01]: Who when I walked up a couple years ago to the overflow floor floor and there was a window that was just popped off the frame, just leaned up against the wall, which meant that there was no AC, you could hear the entire Texas in, because who when I were like the last two seats over, so I'm hoping to avoid that.
- 1:26:40[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's like my humble, like working air conditioner, can I get on the internet?
- 1:26:44[SPEAKER_01]: Other than that, I mean, I'm happy.
- 1:26:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'll keep my fingers crossed for y'all.
- 1:26:49[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully, working windows, working Wi-Fi, you know, which it's not going to take much to be better than what we've experienced at OU yet this year, but it was always crazy to me how
- 1:27:05[SPEAKER_02]: at times AT&T has been a sponsor of this and the Wi-Fi has been garbage down there.
- 1:27:11[SPEAKER_02]: So fingers crossed that that'll be better for you all this.
- 1:27:13[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that was Southwestern Belle, who again, yeah, communications company, how can you not figure out the Wi-Fi situation?
- 1:27:21[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, it's pink.
- 1:27:22[SPEAKER_03]: You'd be wrong, but you would think.
- 1:27:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think we don't forget that the it was it two years ago or four years ago.
- 1:27:28[SPEAKER_03]: We were up in the upper atmosphere of the cotton wool press box and you basically had EMTs fighting against Dallas PD like throwing haymakers and people were cussing at each other and food was flying everywhere.
- 1:27:40[SPEAKER_03]: It was a madhouse.
- 1:27:41[SPEAKER_01]: We yet that was four years ago that was the Caleb comeback where there was a concession worker who's up to the front of us.
- 1:27:50[SPEAKER_01]: We were just screaming.
- 1:27:53[SPEAKER_01]: when cable was thrown over the place and we were like this is listen we I can work in the chaotic environment that was a step too far.
- 1:28:03[SPEAKER_03]: It's always when Texas has the, as the home game, when Texas is the home team stuff goes wild.
- 1:28:08[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's the home team this year.
- 1:28:10[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, we also, we don't get shoved overflow when Texas is the home team.
- 1:28:15[SPEAKER_01]: So thank you to Oklahoma.
- 1:28:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that set up probably be a little bit different.
- 1:28:19[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody cares about our problems though.
- 1:28:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know what they care about going down the cotton ball having a good day, getting a W and getting some sunburns, some flutters, corny dogs, and some wax, cup beer.
- 1:28:29[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what all the Oklahoma fans we're doing.
- 1:28:31[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be on about Friday night.
- 1:28:32[SPEAKER_01]: You see us come say what's up.
- 1:28:34[SPEAKER_01]: We're always happy to give you a hello and just a we we apologize for Brady's behavior.
- 1:28:40[SPEAKER_01]: Basically, that'll be if you run into us and Brady's not about we apologize for young Trent, him's behavior.
- 1:28:45[SPEAKER_01]: He also wanted me to pass on.
- 1:28:46[SPEAKER_01]: He wanted me to wish a very happy birthday to Joe Cigliot as well as that we are potting on Joe Cigliot's birthday.
- 1:28:51[SPEAKER_01]: So that one is for you Mr. Trent.
- 1:28:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's all the time we have here.
- 1:28:55[SPEAKER_01]: Brady's could have hate me.
- 1:28:56[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we gotta go.
- 1:28:57[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk to you, post game pod, press box.
- 1:29:00[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you text is what for, could you want?
- 1:29:03[SPEAKER_01]: Wednesday night, here's the drill.
- 1:29:06[SPEAKER_01]: 710, available to report updates.
- 1:29:10[SPEAKER_01]: 715, you have everything you need in your hands.
- 1:29:13[SPEAKER_01]: OaklandSuiters on SI.com.

- 1:29:19[SPEAKER_01]: So wherever John material ends, Ryan Avery will have that for you.
- 1:29:24[SPEAKER_01]: And we will talk to you guys on Saturday peace.
