- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority Life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Kessler. Hi, guys, We're back with
- 0:13Speaker 2: another episode of Dirty Rush, and today I'm going to
- 0:16Speaker 2: be talking all about sorority pinning ceremonies. I personally never
- 0:22Speaker 2: went through a sorority pinning ceremony, so I do not
- 0:26Speaker 2: know one hundred percent what it's all about. But we
- 0:29Speaker 2: are going to have a lot of guests today to
- 0:30Speaker 2: talk to us about everything that it is and everything
- 0:34Speaker 2: that it entails, and I'm sure we'll hear some really
- 0:37Speaker 2: good stories as well along with those. So if I
- 0:41Speaker 2: were to think of what a pinning was, going back
- 0:44Speaker 2: to my sorority days, I know I got pinned, but
- 0:48Speaker 2: it was like when I was getting initiated. Then I
- 0:51Speaker 2: got pinned to be in my sorority. But the pinning
- 0:54Speaker 2: that we're talking about today is actually I think this
- 0:59Speaker 2: is what it is, so people can correct me if
- 1:01Speaker 2: I'm wrong. But when a guy in a fraternity wants
- 1:05Speaker 2: to like be with you forever and so then it's
- 1:08Speaker 2: like this huge ceremony. I've heard that some schools like
- 1:12Speaker 2: we're all white and then the girl gets pinned and
- 1:15Speaker 2: it's parents. Basically like before an engagement comes. So you
- 1:19Speaker 2: get pinned and then you get engaged. I guess I'm
- 1:23Speaker 2: not really sure how it all works out, but that's
- 1:27Speaker 2: my understanding of it. So we're gonna talk to some
- 1:29Speaker 2: people and see what it's all about. I know, so
- 1:33Speaker 2: I know a few girls my age who had them
- 1:35Speaker 2: at their school, but besides that, I had never heard
- 1:39Speaker 2: about this or knew it was a thing. So I'm
- 1:41Speaker 2: interested to talk to these people and see what they say.
- 1:44Speaker 2: It's all about. Hi, Jennifer, Why, Okay, So I'm so
- 1:47Speaker 2: excited to have you on this episode. We heard that
- 1:50Speaker 2: you have a pinning ceremony that had happened, and you
- 1:55Speaker 2: went to one and experienced one.
- 1:57Speaker 3: I had.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I was in a sorority, but I actually experienced a pinning.
- 2:02Speaker 2: So I think it's when like a guy really likes
- 2:05Speaker 2: a girl, he pins her and then they like get
- 2:09Speaker 2: engaged or something. But can you let us know what
- 2:12Speaker 2: your experience was.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Yeah, so I didn't know the girl super well. She
- 2:17Speaker 4: was an upperclassman at the time. I was an underclassman. Okay,
- 2:20Speaker 4: because I was an underclassman, we were told that we
- 2:22Speaker 4: had to go to this, so we didn't make a
- 2:25Speaker 4: lot of choice in the matter. I don't even know
- 2:28Speaker 4: if these people ended up getting engaged, but it's pretty strange.
- 2:32Speaker 5: It's like.
- 2:35Speaker 4: The entire frat house came out. Oh, all presented her
- 2:39Speaker 4: with a single rose.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Oh, like all of them handed her a rose.
- 2:43Speaker 4: While singing, and then eventually she had a giant bouquet
- 2:49Speaker 4: of roses and he pinned her with his fraternity pin
- 2:54Speaker 4: and we were all outside. I don't know why I
- 2:57Speaker 4: had to be there. We were just kind of like
- 3:00Speaker 4: supporting her and like we had it all.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Be there, Yeah, just so she wasn't like alone standing there.
- 3:05Speaker 4: Yeah, it was like a giant gaggle of girls just
- 3:07Speaker 4: standing there watching men bring up single flowers and singing.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Do you know, like how long they have been dating before?
- 3:17Speaker 4: I think like a year? You know nothing, okay, your
- 3:21Speaker 4: college sweethearts. I do not remember the exact song that
- 3:26Speaker 4: they sang. I think it may have been like top
- 3:28Speaker 4: gun you've lost that love and feeling, which wouldn't make
- 3:30Speaker 4: any sense in context.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Right, So were there a lot of girls in your
- 3:34Speaker 2: sorority throughout college that got pinned?
- 3:38Speaker 4: I mean I believe there was like at least one
- 3:40Speaker 4: a year that got.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Pinned, and so if you get pinned, it's like that's
- 3:44Speaker 2: basically like their proposing kind of.
- 3:48Speaker 4: I think, I don't know, it's so heteronormative and strange.
- 3:50Speaker 4: It's like a light proposal. I don't know what it is.
- 3:56Speaker 2: That's so funny. Do you know if they like, did
- 3:58Speaker 2: she wear the pin or out?
- 4:01Speaker 6: You know?
- 4:01Speaker 4: No, I don't think so. She only wore it when
- 4:04Speaker 4: she was pinned. And then I do remember that we
- 4:06Speaker 4: all had to be in black.
- 4:08Speaker 2: That was very o you all had to be in black? Yes, okay?
- 4:12Speaker 2: Was she in white or black?
- 4:14Speaker 4: No, she wasn't black as well.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Sounds like a funeral.
- 4:18Speaker 4: I'm not sure if it was a promise ring but
- 4:19Speaker 4: a promise pined Like I don't know, you know, I wasn't.
- 4:22Speaker 4: I didn't go to college to get married, so I'm
- 4:25Speaker 4: not sure.
- 4:25Speaker 7: Like I love that.
- 4:28Speaker 5: Yeah, if this was like.
- 4:29Speaker 2: A pro I feel like most people don't. I feel
- 4:32Speaker 2: like a lot of people now like they like find
- 4:35Speaker 2: their person in college. But yeah, I'm also like, isn't
- 4:39Speaker 2: everyone's like away from home and like figuring things out.
- 4:42Speaker 2: So M just also like it's funny because like you
- 4:48Speaker 2: didn't even like really know the girl you said, and
- 4:51Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't think i'd want people there who
- 4:55Speaker 2: I didn't know that well, yeah, I.
- 4:58Speaker 4: Mean I'm not sure what you're experience and a sorority
- 5:01Speaker 4: was like, I have no regrets in being involved. I
- 5:03Speaker 4: just found that when we were supposed to treat all
- 5:05Speaker 4: one hundred and eighty girls that were in it as
- 5:07Speaker 4: one big friend group, it was kind of strange because, yeah,
- 5:11Speaker 4: I don't have one hundred and eighty close friends.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that's so true. It's like when you're in it,
- 5:16Speaker 2: I feel like it's like this like sisterhood thing. But
- 5:19Speaker 2: then like when I think about it right now, I'm like,
- 5:21Speaker 2: I would not want one hundred and eighty girls that
- 5:25Speaker 2: I barely knew at my boddy.
- 5:28Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:28Speaker 4: I mean I have like ten really good girlfriends that
- 5:30Speaker 4: I made from it, and then I have like, you know,
- 5:32Speaker 4: a satellite group of a few others that I stay, Yeah,
- 5:35Speaker 4: I'm friendly with, but I'm not best friends with one
- 5:38Speaker 4: hundred and eighty girls. Correct.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that's kind of how mine is too. I don't
- 5:42Speaker 2: regret doing it at all either. I had such a
- 5:44Speaker 2: great experience and it was so fun, but yeah, it
- 5:47Speaker 2: is funny those like little things like that. Wow, I
- 5:51Speaker 2: really wonder if that couples together.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Still, I don't care perfonally, I am sorry that sounds bitchy, No,
- 6:00Speaker 4: not at all. I mean I think I was just
- 6:02Speaker 4: told that I had to be there because I was
- 6:04Speaker 4: an underclassman and they needed bodies, yeah, throughout the situation, which,
- 6:09Speaker 4: like I don't really know why they needed a giant
- 6:12Speaker 4: gaggle of girls standing on steps watching a girl get roses.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Yeah, that is so true. It is funny all those
- 6:21Speaker 2: little things. And also like I wonder, like is it
- 6:26Speaker 2: planned ahead of time? Do you know, like how ahead
- 6:29Speaker 2: of time do people know that, like she's gonna get pinned?
- 6:32Speaker 4: So I think, okay, I might be like misremembering this,
- 6:35Speaker 4: but I'm pretty sure that the pin eat is in
- 6:37Speaker 4: the dark. They don't know what's coming. They're told that
- 6:40Speaker 4: they have to be at the house for a special event,
- 6:42Speaker 4: and we're black. Oh wow for the story that I
- 6:44Speaker 4: was in, So I think it was a surprise. But
- 6:48Speaker 4: then when I heard she kind of knew it was coming.
- 6:51Speaker 4: And you know, obviously when a giant group of men
- 6:54Speaker 4: start singing at you and giving you flowers, like you know,
- 6:57Speaker 4: something's going to happen to.
- 6:58Speaker 2: You, Oh for sure.
- 7:00Speaker 4: I mean hopefully it's just getting pinned.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Uh, But like I kind of love the like thrill
- 7:05Speaker 2: of that, like not knowing if it's you.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Yeah. This was in the aughts, late outs, like midats,
- 7:16Speaker 4: so not recently. But my my younger sister did get pinned.
- 7:21Speaker 4: And she's ten years younger than me, so.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Oh no way. Yeah, is she still with the guy?
- 7:27Speaker 4: They got married?
- 7:28Speaker 2: Yeah, they are married.
- 7:31Speaker 4: They got married last year.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, that's amazing.
- 7:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:35Speaker 4: No, But like it's funny because I don't really think
- 7:37Speaker 4: that that was her style. I think they were just
- 7:39Speaker 4: you know, at the Yeah, but they're they're really cute couple.
- 7:44Speaker 4: I wasn't there for that because I obviously wasn't in
- 7:46Speaker 4: school at that time.
- 7:47Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 7:47Speaker 2: So did she like get pinned and then get engaged.
- 7:51Speaker 4: No, No, she got pinned, was with him for like
- 7:54Speaker 4: an additional five years, then got engaged.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Okay, so it was like two separate.
- 8:00Speaker 4: It wasn't really a formal pre engagement type of situation
- 8:03Speaker 4: with her at all.
- 8:04Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 4: I feel like back in the day it probably was
- 8:07Speaker 4: a pre engagement, but I don't know, you.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Know, Yeah, I'm sure, like depending on the school and
- 8:17Speaker 2: like the situation too, it's probably different.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Yeah, well this is southern California, like USC. So okay,
- 8:26Speaker 4: I feel like in I don't were you in like
- 8:28Speaker 4: a southern sorority or were you in what what area?
- 8:30Speaker 2: I went to San Diego State.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Okay, God, this is southern California as well.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I feel like southern.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Ones probably do it a little different or you know,
- 8:39Speaker 4: everyone's got their own flavor.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Oh for sure. Well, thank you so much for coming on.
- 8:44Speaker 2: It was great to talk to you, Jennifer. Okay, everyone,
- 9:01Speaker 2: we have Jeanette and Mollie. Hi you guys.
- 9:05Speaker 5: Hello.
- 9:07Speaker 2: So I'm curious to hear your experience about the whole
- 9:11Speaker 2: like pinning situation. For me, my understanding was it. A
- 9:14Speaker 2: pinning for a sorority is when a fraternity I really
- 9:18Speaker 2: likes her basically wants to get engaged to her and
- 9:20Speaker 2: they get pinned. But tell me from your guys's experience,
- 9:25Speaker 2: what it is.
- 9:26Speaker 8: I mean, that's like it, that's what it is.
- 9:29Speaker 1: But it's like at our school, it was just like
- 9:32Speaker 1: a huge roast pretty much, and.
- 9:35Speaker 2: It was oh no way, it was like.
- 9:39Speaker 1: One big roast and then yeah, like usually it was
- 9:44Speaker 1: a couple, so whoever's like been dating for a while,
- 9:47Speaker 1: it's like a big deal at the end, like you're
- 9:50Speaker 1: gonna have a pinning and it's originally it was like
- 9:53Speaker 1: you're supposed to like pin your frat pin on the girl,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and it's like this whole big thing, and I think
- 10:00Speaker 1: that's how it started. And then as the years went
- 10:04Speaker 1: on and like it just became like this whole entire,
- 10:09Speaker 1: huge roast battle.
- 10:10Speaker 5: Between the girls.
- 10:13Speaker 1: She has like a panel, so it would be like,
- 10:16Speaker 1: I don't know, like five girls her roommates usually, and
- 10:19Speaker 1: then they have like five guys and then they would
- 10:25Speaker 1: kind of go through and roast the girls would roast
- 10:29Speaker 1: the guys, and then they would roast the couple.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Uh okay, yeah, So would it always be like just
- 10:36Speaker 2: the girls roasting the guy or would the guys roast
- 10:39Speaker 2: the girls too?
- 10:41Speaker 5: So the guys would they would first roast the guys
- 10:47Speaker 5: and then they would go down and do all the girls.
- 10:50Speaker 5: So you would have.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Like some roommates who are like they're like, oh, we're
- 10:56Speaker 3: like super good friends, You're my best friend, but and
- 10:59Speaker 3: then be this like horrible, like not funny, rude.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Roast about like the girl like they're ing.
- 11:08Speaker 3: So it would be like, hey, sister, I love you
- 11:11Speaker 3: so much, but and then it would be like you
- 11:15Speaker 3: have no personality and you're super annoying. And that was
- 11:20Speaker 3: like fully, like we were in the audience and we
- 11:23Speaker 3: heard that, and we were like, that's just not funny.
- 11:25Speaker 3: It's just like you have to go home together and
- 11:27Speaker 3: you're still roommates.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Do you have like any particular ones that were like
- 11:32Speaker 2: crazy that you remember.
- 11:33Speaker 3: So there was one that we saw and it was
- 11:37Speaker 3: a girl talking to her best friend and she was like, Hey,
- 11:42Speaker 3: you're like my best friend, but you don't have any
- 11:46Speaker 3: other friends and I'm your only friend and you're so
- 11:49Speaker 3: annoying or like it was something like that.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, Yeah, that's like so sad. And when
- 11:56Speaker 2: you were like picked, did you guys ever have to
- 11:58Speaker 2: do the roast?
- 12:00Speaker 5: So the one that we weren't, I was the.
- 12:04Speaker 3: MC, so I was like leading it and I would
- 12:08Speaker 3: be like next up is this person?
- 12:10Speaker 5: And I would just say like the lightest not even rude,
- 12:13Speaker 5: like hey whatever. Molly was the one who was on the.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Panel, Okay, what was your experience, Mollie.
- 12:23Speaker 1: So leading up to it, we were when I like
- 12:26Speaker 1: had to be on this panel. I was like, one,
- 12:28Speaker 1: this is really scary, and I don't want to do
- 12:31Speaker 1: this because you're in front of a whole group of
- 12:32Speaker 1: people and this is really scary. So Janette, my girl,
- 12:40Speaker 1: gave me a little anxiety pill because I was super
- 12:43Speaker 1: anxious and I was like freaking out.
- 12:45Speaker 8: I don't want to do this.
- 12:46Speaker 5: I don't want to be roasted whatever.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Like I got a chill, yeah, I needed to chill.
- 12:50Speaker 1: And then I was also sick, so I also like
- 12:52Speaker 1: had some day quill and I had some musin X
- 12:55Speaker 1: and then I was like, well to really like I
- 12:58Speaker 1: I don't want to be nervous. I'm going to take
- 13:00Speaker 1: shots too.
- 13:01Speaker 2: So I was so.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Hammered and I don't remember any of it, but I
- 13:09Speaker 1: do remember I was hooking up with this guy and
- 13:13Speaker 1: I also hooked up with his little and so pretty
- 13:16Speaker 1: much the whole roast was like you hooked up with
- 13:19Speaker 1: this guy's little and yeah, that was pretty humiliating. I
- 13:23Speaker 1: got some Some guys were like I got roasted on
- 13:28Speaker 1: being like loud and annoying, and I'm like, sorry, I'm fun.
- 13:32Speaker 2: I don't know. Yeah, honestly, this just sounds kind of evil.
- 13:36Speaker 2: It was evil, like who came up with this.
- 13:39Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 13:40Speaker 3: I don't know, but they used to be like super
- 13:44Speaker 3: romantic and it would be like it was like so
- 13:48Speaker 3: beautiful and they would have like their candles and it
- 13:52Speaker 3: was like it was like all for the couple. But
- 13:55Speaker 3: now it is like a total crap. Shoot, you don't
- 13:58Speaker 3: even say anything nice about like the they'll say at
- 14:01Speaker 3: like the last second, they'll be like blah blah blah
- 14:04Speaker 3: blah blah, saying all this mean stuff and then they'll
- 14:07Speaker 3: be like, but you guys are the best.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Also, I feel like college is already like a hard
- 14:14Speaker 2: like enough time, like you don't need that on top
- 14:17Speaker 2: of it. But whose idea is it to like get pinned?
- 14:21Speaker 2: Is it the guy or the girl?
- 14:22Speaker 7: Then?
- 14:22Speaker 2: Like who's like I want to be roasted with my friends?
- 14:26Speaker 4: For me?
- 14:27Speaker 3: All of my friends and my boyfriend's friends wanted to
- 14:32Speaker 3: do it, so they were like, okay, I have one.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I did not want it because I was like that
- 14:39Speaker 3: sounds like my personal hell. And so that was how
- 14:43Speaker 3: that started. But we were going to do ours like
- 14:47Speaker 3: later in the year, and so everyone was having theirs,
- 14:50Speaker 3: like one after the other, yeah, and they were just
- 14:53Speaker 3: getting like worse and worse, like they just it wasn't cute.
- 14:58Speaker 5: See, it wasn't levy.
- 14:59Speaker 3: It was just like a hard watch and they were
- 15:01Speaker 3: like two hours.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Yeah that sounds horrible.
- 15:07Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it honestly was like it was terrible. There
- 15:10Speaker 5: was there was like.
- 15:11Speaker 2: War, yeah, yeah, I mean I'm sure people learned like
- 15:15Speaker 2: a lot of.
- 15:15Speaker 5: Tea though, Yeah, a lot of tea.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Yeah, lot of t I'm sure there was a lot
- 15:21Speaker 2: of drama afterwards too.
- 15:23Speaker 5: Oh yeah, how could they're not me?
- 15:25Speaker 3: Right?
- 15:26Speaker 2: We had so we would have when we would have
- 15:29Speaker 2: like an ivy man or I was in Alpha Fia
- 15:32Speaker 2: at San Diego, say, and so we would pick like
- 15:35Speaker 2: the like top like favorite five guys from like each
- 15:38Speaker 2: fraternity or whatever, and they would come in and compete
- 15:41Speaker 2: for Ivyman. And one of the things was a roast
- 15:44Speaker 2: and they had to like sit in front of all
- 15:46Speaker 2: of us and then people could like ask them whatever
- 15:49Speaker 2: questions they want or like interrogate them. And I remember
- 15:52Speaker 2: one of them was like so bad. I was like
- 15:55Speaker 2: this is horrible. I feel so bad for this guy.
- 15:57Speaker 2: I want to leave, and then like everyone and ended
- 16:00Speaker 2: up apologizing to him after. And it was like this
- 16:02Speaker 2: huge ordeal because I was like this is horrible.
- 16:07Speaker 5: It's like at what costs? Like best case.
- 16:09Speaker 8: Scenario, what you're the ivy man, Like I know, right,
- 16:13Speaker 8: I can't believe.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I can't imagine like girls going at girls though, and
- 16:17Speaker 2: guys too, like mixing it all together. That would be crazy.
- 16:21Speaker 5: Honestly. It was like everyone would have drinks and.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Like everyone was kind of like free forrawling, like yeah,
- 16:29Speaker 2: like no matter what, like if you're drunk or even
- 16:32Speaker 2: be say more.
- 16:33Speaker 3: Exactly, so there was like no boundary.
- 16:36Speaker 7: That so bad.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I guess people got to get things off their shoulders.
- 16:42Speaker 5: No, really, is.
- 16:43Speaker 2: There anyone that you guys were friends with and then
- 16:48Speaker 2: like heard them say something. I know, Jeanette, you didn't
- 16:51Speaker 2: really get roasted, But Mollie, do you remember anyone that
- 16:55Speaker 2: you heard like say something about you? And you were
- 16:57Speaker 2: really like okay, like I do not want you to
- 16:59Speaker 2: be like at of my life anymore.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Not me personally, but like I've seen it. I think
- 17:04Speaker 1: we saw it at one of the pinnings. One of
- 17:09Speaker 1: the girls who was on the panel, a guy roasted
- 17:11Speaker 1: her and like this is so bad. He like went
- 17:13Speaker 1: after her weight, and so after that it was just
- 17:17Speaker 1: like everyone was like screw this guy.
- 17:20Speaker 6: Like that was just.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Yeah, that's horrible, horrible, and so yeah, I think and
- 17:26Speaker 1: like then he was like kind of known as like
- 17:28Speaker 1: no one is that guy.
- 17:29Speaker 5: He's a total loser.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Oh for sure if you do something like that.
- 17:34Speaker 3: It was yeah, that was like his junior year and
- 17:38Speaker 3: like his senior year was just like like he was
- 17:41Speaker 3: known for that.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Yeah, he probably had the worst year after that.
- 17:46Speaker 5: Was like a year long of scaries.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Yeah, oh my goodness, for sure. Okay, wait, so Jeannette,
- 17:53Speaker 2: you were pinned, right.
- 17:55Speaker 5: I was pinned?
- 17:57Speaker 2: And are you still with him?
- 17:59Speaker 3: I am not still with him? Okay, So yeah I
- 18:04Speaker 3: was pinned. And just like we were saying, after we
- 18:09Speaker 3: saw like everyone else's we were like, this sounds horrible.
- 18:14Speaker 3: So at the end of the year, when it was
- 18:16Speaker 3: like our turn, last minute, we all were like, f this,
- 18:21Speaker 3: we can't do this. So we just had like a
- 18:24Speaker 3: hula party and we had like the cheerleaders and like
- 18:27Speaker 3: the guys did like a hula dance and everyone just
- 18:31Speaker 3: blacked out and like we played game.
- 18:33Speaker 5: So that was like my pinning.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Sounds like a great dive. So you can kind of
- 18:37Speaker 2: decide at your school, you could kind of decide what
- 18:40Speaker 2: you wanted your pinning to be if you didn't want
- 18:42Speaker 2: to do the roast or was that just you just
- 18:44Speaker 2: being like screw this, like I'm doing whatever I want.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Yeah, that was kind of me, just like f this.
- 18:50Speaker 3: But they's supposed to be a roast. And so people
- 18:54Speaker 3: were coming and they were like wait what and I
- 18:56Speaker 3: was like, I don't know, but thanks for coming.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Well, I'm happy your pinning was more fun than the
- 19:03Speaker 2: other ones it was. That's great. Well, thank you Mollie
- 19:08Speaker 2: and Jeanette for coming on. It was great talking with
- 19:10Speaker 2: you girls and very interesting learning this aspect of pinning
- 19:15Speaker 2: versus the other ones that I've heard about. So thank
- 19:17Speaker 2: you both, very very much.
- 19:19Speaker 5: Thank you, Thank you.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Yes, you guys, have a great rest of your night,
- 19:23Speaker 2: you too.
- 19:23Speaker 7: Bye bye.
- 19:39Speaker 6: Hey Jack, Hey guys.
- 19:41Speaker 2: So I'm so excited for you to be on this
- 19:43Speaker 2: one because I have not heard about what a pinning
- 19:46Speaker 2: is yet from a guy that was in a fraternity,
- 19:50Speaker 2: so I'm excited to hear your take on it. So
- 19:53Speaker 2: tell us all what a pinning is and if you
- 19:57Speaker 2: ever pinned anyone of course.
- 20:00Speaker 6: So I need to preface this by saying pinning, can
- 20:05Speaker 6: you mean a lot of different things at a lot
- 20:07Speaker 6: of different schools. Okay, at my school, a pinning is
- 20:12Speaker 6: when a guy and a girl who have been dating
- 20:15Speaker 6: for kind of a long time, like at least a year,
- 20:19Speaker 6: will have their own wedding, if you will. Maybe wedding
- 20:23Speaker 6: would be a better term for it. But the fraternity
- 20:27Speaker 6: and the sorority will all get together and celebrate these
- 20:30Speaker 6: two people's relationship. But there are some slight differences between
- 20:37Speaker 6: this event and an actual wedding.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Okay, so what are so is it like a sarah
- 20:44Speaker 2: like a ceremony like this girl of pinherd? Does that
- 20:48Speaker 2: mean like like she's like your wife, like you want
- 20:52Speaker 2: to be with her for the rest of your life.
- 20:55Speaker 6: I mean, that's definitely plays into it, But I think
- 20:59Speaker 6: it taps into some more raunchy parts of your guys
- 21:04Speaker 6: relationship rather than the romantic ones. Okay, of course you
- 21:08Speaker 6: celebrate like all of the your guys like romantic like
- 21:12Speaker 6: affections for each other. But the ceremony, maybe I can
- 21:18Speaker 6: just give a little explanation of what actually happens.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yeah, give us, give us the whole rundown. What happens
- 21:24Speaker 2: when you're there.
- 21:25Speaker 6: Right, So what happens is like any wedding, it'll start
- 21:31Speaker 6: with a bachelor and a bachelor atte party. So the
- 21:35Speaker 6: guy with all of his guy friends will go out,
- 21:41Speaker 6: have a couple of drinks, probably end up over serving themselves,
- 21:45Speaker 6: and especially make sure that whoever's getting married is blacked
- 21:52Speaker 6: out before you even get to the ceremony. And then
- 21:55Speaker 6: the same thing happens. The same thing happens with the girls.
- 21:58Speaker 6: We'll do their bachelortte party. You'll like take a party
- 22:01Speaker 6: bus with all of your friends, go to a bar,
- 22:04Speaker 6: have a couple of drinks. Make sure that you're loose,
- 22:07Speaker 6: because after you're bouchering a better rupp party. Everyone will
- 22:12Speaker 6: meet up at the sorority house and you're joined by
- 22:17Speaker 6: like the rest of like your entire fraternity and sorority,
- 22:21Speaker 6: and you'll gather in the courtyard of the sorority and
- 22:26Speaker 6: then there's not really any speeches that go down at
- 22:30Speaker 6: the ceremony. Everyone, everyone in the fraternity sorority starts counting
- 22:35Speaker 6: up to one hundred and for those hundred seconds, whoever's
- 22:41Speaker 6: getting pinned is just making out in the middle of everyone.
- 22:45Speaker 6: Oh my goodness, right in front of everyone.
- 22:51Speaker 2: This is it's so funny because we've talked to a
- 22:53Speaker 2: few different people about what pinnings are, and like everyone
- 22:56Speaker 2: has a different take on it, So like do you
- 23:00Speaker 2: did you give a speech about her or anything, or
- 23:04Speaker 2: where you guys were just making out and then it
- 23:06Speaker 2: was like then you're pinned.
- 23:08Speaker 6: That's kind of how it goes at our school. But
- 23:12Speaker 6: there's a little there's a little more romantic side to it,
- 23:15Speaker 6: like I wrote her a letter and then the whole
- 23:19Speaker 6: idea is that it's supposed to be a surprise for
- 23:23Speaker 6: the bride, if you will, so she won't know that
- 23:28Speaker 6: like her pinning's happening until a couple hours before.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Okay, So like the other girls have it like set up,
- 23:34Speaker 2: like the party busts and stuff.
- 23:36Speaker 7: Kind of.
- 23:36Speaker 6: Yeah, they plan it all like without her knowing, and
- 23:39Speaker 6: they'll have an event on their social calendar that might
- 23:42Speaker 6: say something like really generic, just like something totally unexpecting,
- 23:48Speaker 6: but everyone knows that it's the pinning except for her,
- 23:51Speaker 6: or at least that's the idea. Of course, you know,
- 23:53Speaker 6: sometimes it'll get spoiled. But yeah, they trick her into
- 23:56Speaker 6: going to a dinner at their sorority because like when
- 24:01Speaker 6: you're a senior, maybe you don't go to your sorority
- 24:03Speaker 6: house as much. As you did when you were like
- 24:05Speaker 6: lesh and sophomore junior. So that's that. That's like step
- 24:09Speaker 6: one except two us. Once you get him there, one
- 24:12Speaker 6: of their close friends will read them the letter that
- 24:17Speaker 6: I wrote, or that the groom I wrote to his bride.
- 24:22Speaker 6: So in that letter, you know, there's there's a couple
- 24:24Speaker 6: of sweet notes and then there's a couple there's a
- 24:28Speaker 6: couple of jokes, maybe some things that the bride would
- 24:32Speaker 6: would have rather preferred him keep to himself. But that's
- 24:36Speaker 6: the whole point of it.
- 24:38Speaker 2: That's so sweet, and you're still with this girl, right
- 24:42Speaker 2: I am? I am okay.
- 24:44Speaker 6: And funny enough, her parents were dating when they were
- 24:50Speaker 6: in college. Her dad was in a fraternity and her
- 24:53Speaker 6: mom was in a sorority and they had piddings at
- 24:55Speaker 6: their school. It was a little different celebrate and we had.
- 25:02Speaker 6: But her dad refused to get pinned to her mom
- 25:08Speaker 6: because he didn't want to jinx the relationship.
- 25:11Speaker 2: In no way. That's funny. Well, that's funny that they
- 25:14Speaker 2: like it was like a thing there too. But I
- 25:17Speaker 2: think we have your girl in the waiting room too,
- 25:20Speaker 2: so I think we'll bring her in also, Oh please
- 25:23Speaker 2: do then we can get her side. Well, hey, team, okay,
- 25:27Speaker 2: so now we have Jill in here with us. So
- 25:30Speaker 2: jail Jack was just telling me all about the pinnings
- 25:34Speaker 2: on like his side and how they all looked like. So,
- 25:37Speaker 2: I'm curious, did you know when you were gonna get
- 25:39Speaker 2: pinned that it happened, or that it was happening or no.
- 25:43Speaker 9: So I heard some rumors, but essentially kind of It's
- 25:49Speaker 9: supposed to be entirely a surprise.
- 25:51Speaker 8: But a lot of people wound up surprising me.
- 25:55Speaker 9: Right after I got back from a little movie night
- 25:57Speaker 9: at Jack's, came in and the entire apartment was decorated
- 26:02Speaker 9: with like a bunch of different hearts, and everybody else celebrated,
- 26:05Speaker 9: and then we went to our favorite frozen yogurt spot
- 26:09Speaker 9: in Los Angeles, so Jack and all the girls for
- 26:12Speaker 9: a little bachelorette party, And then I got some good sleep,
- 26:15Speaker 9: and it was the next day.
- 26:17Speaker 8: But it was totally a surprise and it was lots
- 26:20Speaker 8: of fun.
- 26:21Speaker 2: I love that, So were you, Like we heard about
- 26:25Speaker 2: the like making now in front of the whole sorority fraternity.
- 26:29Speaker 9: But I wish I could tell you all the details.
- 26:31Speaker 9: But to be quite frank, if anybody has to do
- 26:34Speaker 9: that you're not supposed to remember parts of it.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Say you were pretty tuned up, yeah.
- 26:40Speaker 8: But no, it was awesome. We were all in a
- 26:42Speaker 8: circle and thankfully there was another.
- 26:46Speaker 9: Couple that could steal the show with us, so they
- 26:49Speaker 9: were in the circle and we all counted to you
- 26:51Speaker 9: one hundred and I have video proof if you'd like
- 26:54Speaker 9: to see.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Did yes send in the video? Did a lot did
- 27:00Speaker 2: a lot of your friends get pinned?
- 27:02Speaker 8: I'd say so it was. It's a very fun tradition.
- 27:05Speaker 9: Like freshman year, I remember our first pinning and it's
- 27:10Speaker 9: just this crazy event. And by senior year it's normal
- 27:13Speaker 9: and some of your other friends are getting pinned too.
- 27:16Speaker 9: Funny enough, this tradition has actually been a thing for
- 27:20Speaker 9: a long time.
- 27:21Speaker 8: My grandparents were actually pinned. But back in the.
- 27:24Speaker 9: Day they pass their letters to the girl, so like
- 27:28Speaker 9: they get a little pin of letters.
- 27:32Speaker 8: But by senior year, a lot of our friends to
- 27:34Speaker 8: get pinned. So it's super cool.
- 27:35Speaker 2: So did you like, did you call your grandparents and
- 27:37Speaker 2: were you like I got pinned?
- 27:40Speaker 7: They?
- 27:41Speaker 8: Essentially I think it was very different.
- 27:43Speaker 9: Truly, theirs is a super cute little pin passing.
- 27:47Speaker 8: Yeah, a dance around. It was very wholesome. However, nowadays
- 27:52Speaker 8: it's a lot different.
- 27:53Speaker 9: You know, I was on back shoulders, we signed a beam,
- 27:56Speaker 9: we kissed for one hundred seconds.
- 27:58Speaker 8: It's a lot different, but it's definitely definitely a party.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Well, it sounds like a great time. Honestly, maybe I
- 28:05Speaker 2: think they should do pinnings everywhere if they're that fun.
- 28:09Speaker 2: And how long have you guys been together?
- 28:12Speaker 6: Just under a year and a half.
- 28:15Speaker 2: I love that. Well, congrats to you guys. I hope
- 28:19Speaker 2: you're pinning last forever. This is a great spot to pause.
- 28:23Speaker 2: We had so many callers that called in, and I
- 28:26Speaker 2: definitely want to get to more. So we'll be back
- 28:29Speaker 2: with more on Dirty Rush.
