- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to the Give Them La La Podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Did I sound like Heather.
- 0:11Speaker 2: McDonald's Oh that's who you were going for? Okay, I thought, Hello,
- 0:16Speaker 2: it's juicy scoop. You actually did right there.
- 0:19Speaker 1: And every time she does it because I don't listen
- 0:22Speaker 1: to very many podcasts, but I listened to hers, and
- 0:24Speaker 1: I listen to my own, and I'm like, I always
- 0:28Speaker 1: do the intro the same, but then Heather McDonald does
- 0:31Speaker 1: hers the same. So I was like, Okay, it's fucking
- 0:33Speaker 1: Heather McDonald. I can do the same. If she does
- 0:35Speaker 1: the same. People like consistency. They do yeah, And I'm
- 0:39Speaker 1: a virgo and if you veer me off the path,
- 0:43Speaker 1: I'm not good, not good for my mental So what
- 0:48Speaker 1: a fun weekend. We had the Oscars on Sunday. Are
- 0:52Speaker 1: you a big Oscars watcher? Be honest.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Okay, I'm gonna be honest. I am not a big
- 0:59Speaker 2: a ward show anything watcher. It's just, yeah, it's hard
- 1:03Speaker 2: for me to.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I don't know because I just know that behind the
- 1:08Speaker 2: scenes there's like political stuff that goes on. I've just
- 1:11Speaker 2: never been a big award show watcher. I appreciate it.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I appreciate the performances and like the fashion and I'm like, oh,
- 1:18Speaker 2: this is fun. And I went to an Oscar watching
- 1:20Speaker 2: party and it was so much fun. But yeah, how.
- 1:23Speaker 1: About you are you? I'm kind of the same. Yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 1: like I can. I can respect the art and all
- 1:30Speaker 1: of the hard work that goes into filmmaking or into
- 1:33Speaker 1: a song, but award shows are really hard for me
- 1:37Speaker 1: to watch because they're very long.
- 1:39Speaker 2: There's so long.
- 1:43Speaker 1: But this this year's Oscars, Amy Schumer, Regina King, and
- 1:51Speaker 1: Wanda Sykes. Yeah, oh my god, they were so funny, hilarious. No,
- 1:56Speaker 1: they were amazing, Like they were like they decided to
- 1:58Speaker 1: hire three women because it was cheaper than hiring one man, and.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I just loved.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Like I thought, I thought the Oscars did great this
- 2:07Speaker 1: year with like bringing in some fun because I've watched
- 2:10Speaker 1: Oscars before and it's super stuffy and yeah, like this
- 2:14Speaker 1: looks like torture, Like even the people there look tortured.
- 2:17Speaker 2: And the funny, the funniest comedy has that hint of
- 2:21Speaker 2: truth behind all of it.
- 2:23Speaker 1: It is true.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I know it's true, not just a hint that
- 2:26Speaker 2: is like wildly true. Yeah, No, they killed it. They
- 2:29Speaker 2: were great.
- 2:30Speaker 1: They were great Beyonce Slade. But that's like, not a
- 2:34Speaker 1: shock to anybody, not.
- 2:35Speaker 2: A shock I missed that I showed up at the
- 2:36Speaker 2: party late. Shocker Sundays I moved shocked by that, all right, Well,
- 2:42Speaker 2: because it's not a shocker, because Sunday's I'm the slowest
- 2:46Speaker 2: person you've ever I'm just like Sunday's my day to
- 2:49Speaker 2: be slow, to be late, to be like sleeping in.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I'm just I'm useless on Sunday.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I'm useless most days.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Not true, Okay, wait, so obviously we have to talk
- 3:01Speaker 2: about the Oscars moment, the slap heard around the world thoughts.
- 3:08Speaker 1: I didn't see it, but I woke up to a
- 3:10Speaker 1: lot of texts that were like, please tell me that
- 3:13Speaker 1: you saw it, and I was like, I did not
- 3:14Speaker 1: see it because I was driving back from Newport Beach
- 3:18Speaker 1: right to LA And you were the one that got
- 3:22Speaker 1: to tell me because everyone told me do not google it.
- 3:25Speaker 1: And I can honestly say I did it. Jessica told me.
- 3:29Speaker 1: So you don't get to like so many people were
- 3:31Speaker 1: wanting to be the first to tell me to tell you,
- 3:34Speaker 1: But why, yeah, why.
- 3:36Speaker 2: That's so interesting. It's the same energy as like wanting
- 3:39Speaker 2: to say, oh, I knew that band before. You knew that, like,
- 3:43Speaker 2: oh yeah, the band's popular now, but I knew them before.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Like everyone saw it. I didn't get over it. Get
- 3:48Speaker 1: over it all right.
- 3:49Speaker 2: It was so I had was home by then because
- 3:53Speaker 2: shocking once again, I left the party early. Yea, But
- 3:57Speaker 2: I feel like I did a good job telling you
- 4:00Speaker 2: from like a non biased standpoint about how it went down.
- 4:05Speaker 2: But it was like it was wild from what I
- 4:08Speaker 2: told you. What do you think I mean?
- 4:10Speaker 1: Granted they are a bunch of actors, But then granted
- 4:15Speaker 1: they are a bunch of actors, and usually with quote
- 4:18Speaker 1: unquote scenes like that, there's like a double right in there,
- 4:23Speaker 1: like if someone's actually getting hit or having to roll
- 4:25Speaker 1: down a hill or whatever, like those actors are like,
- 4:27Speaker 1: but good double bustle my face. So I just don't
- 4:33Speaker 1: think that Chris Rock would be like, yes, and you're
- 4:37Speaker 1: just gonna slap the shit out of you.
- 4:39Speaker 2: You're meaning like for anyone who says like I think
- 4:41Speaker 2: it was set up, are there people that are saying yeah, yeah,
- 4:44Speaker 2: Well at first it was like at first, like immediately after,
- 4:47Speaker 2: people were like, oh, please, come on you guys, like
- 4:50Speaker 2: come on the Oscars were down in views last year.
- 4:54Speaker 2: You don't think they're gonna like.
- 4:55Speaker 1: It's so funny how people think. Yeah, And I am
- 4:59Speaker 1: not comparing the Oscars to like vander Pump Rules in
- 5:03Speaker 1: any in any way, so please know that, okay. But
- 5:08Speaker 1: it's like when people say, oh, they did that because
- 5:13Speaker 1: your ratings were down, it's like, no, this just happened,
- 5:16Speaker 1: like I So for me, it's like, the Oscars aren't
- 5:19Speaker 1: going to be like, Okay, someone needs to get beat
- 5:21Speaker 1: the fuck out of right in order it just it's
- 5:24Speaker 1: not gonna happen. Yeah, you know, like, oh shucks, views
- 5:27Speaker 1: are down. No one is going to be assaulted right
- 5:31Speaker 1: to bring up the ratings right, right, and if they
- 5:34Speaker 1: need it.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Yeah, we've seen them try and bring up the ratings
- 5:36Speaker 2: before and they do their.
- 5:38Speaker 1: By the way, that does happen, but that ain't the
- 5:40Speaker 1: way that they're trying to bring views in.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Exactly, and especially with someone like will Smith, because I
- 5:46Speaker 2: think he's always been like he's always seemed to like push,
- 5:49Speaker 2: love and push. But I do have to say I
- 5:52Speaker 2: think they were both in the wrong. I think they
- 5:54Speaker 2: were both in the wrong, and I think both of
- 5:55Speaker 2: them can be wrong. And I think that it was
- 5:58Speaker 2: a tasteless joke, and I think think that it was
- 6:00Speaker 2: an absolutely wild and inappropriate response. And it makes me
- 6:08Speaker 2: question because I've worked award shows. I've worked many award shows,
- 6:14Speaker 2: never the Oscars, and there are rehearsals, there are things
- 6:19Speaker 2: written on the teleprompter, these jokes and these lines go
- 6:22Speaker 2: through so many people, and I think, you, guys, there
- 6:26Speaker 2: wasn't one person, which there probably was, but they weren't
- 6:30Speaker 2: at a high enough level to be taken seriously. But
- 6:33Speaker 2: I'm like, there wasn't one person who was like, hmm,
- 6:36Speaker 2: Jada Pinett Smith has come out and talked about her
- 6:38Speaker 2: alopecia and how you know how that's been such a
- 6:42Speaker 2: huge thing in her life. Let's not do this joke.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Let's scratch this joke and change it up a little.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I'm like, come on, you go what I don't know.
- 6:51Speaker 1: There's something about talking about someone's physical appearance that doesn't
- 6:59Speaker 1: sit right with me.
- 7:00Speaker 2: It's hack, it's lazy, it feels lazy.
- 7:02Speaker 1: It's lazy. And again it's like Chadwick Boseman and everybody
- 7:09Speaker 1: was commenting on his appearance and then he passes away. Yeah, hello,
- 7:18Speaker 1: have we not learned anything enough? Of attacking people's whether
- 7:22Speaker 1: they've shaved their head or they're looking thin, or they're
- 7:26Speaker 1: looking like they've gained weight enough already.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Stop.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just it feels lazy. The writing of that
- 7:35Speaker 2: feels lazy, and it feels like hack and comedians are
- 7:39Speaker 2: so smart, writers are very smart. I feel like a
- 7:42Speaker 2: lot of these people are too smart to be writing
- 7:44Speaker 2: jokes like that, Like you're better than that, you are, Yeah.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Like being a comedian, it's me it's like intelligent work, yes, okay,
- 7:55Speaker 1: And I just don't understand how In twenty twenty two,
- 7:58Speaker 1: we're commenting on Jada Pinkett. Smith, by the way, is
- 8:02Speaker 1: one of very few people that can look so beyond
- 8:07Speaker 1: stunning breathtaking. It's like she's and the way she and
- 8:13Speaker 1: Will maneuver through things is done with such elegance they
- 8:19Speaker 1: manage to take, you know, like when she was talking
- 8:22Speaker 1: about the entanglement, how the hell are you making entanglement
- 8:25Speaker 1: sound like forty so fucking classy of you? I know,
- 8:30Speaker 1: I know, And that's that's why, like I and I
- 8:34Speaker 1: get what you mean when it's like they were both
- 8:37Speaker 1: in the wrong meaning Will Smith and Chris Rock. Yeah,
- 8:41Speaker 1: but I'm telling you what. There are times where people
- 8:43Speaker 1: have done or said things to me and I'm like,
- 8:45Speaker 1: you deserve to get the shit beat out of you.
- 8:48Speaker 1: And there are things that I've done where people have
- 8:50Speaker 1: commented you deserve to have the ship beat out of you.
- 8:52Speaker 1: And there are times I agree. You can't put your
- 8:56Speaker 1: hands on somebody, and I think the way to do it,
- 8:59Speaker 1: which I'm learning is silence and pretending like someone doesn't exist.
- 9:04Speaker 1: After that, like ha ha ha ha. And then Will
- 9:08Speaker 1: Smith never giving Chris Rock the time of day after that, Yeah,
- 9:14Speaker 1: is the most shade and the most badass thing that
- 9:18Speaker 1: could ever happen.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Such shade. And also if he didn't want to do that,
- 9:22Speaker 2: he would have gotten and this is just in my mind,
- 9:25Speaker 2: he would have gotten his moment for justin he wanted
- 9:28Speaker 2: Oscar after that, minutes after that, he would have gotten
- 9:32Speaker 2: his moment to come up if he wanted to and
- 9:35Speaker 2: be like this is about the Oscar. So grateful, but
- 9:38Speaker 2: I'm gonna take ten seconds to say what Chris Rock
- 9:41Speaker 2: just said about my wife? Whatever?
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yeah, the end. You know what, though, can I tell
- 9:46Speaker 1: you it's so hard to talk about what you would
- 9:50Speaker 1: have done and how you would have reacted because when
- 9:52Speaker 1: you're in that zone of someone attacking the person that
- 9:56Speaker 1: you love, like Jada is his ride or die, mother
- 9:59Speaker 1: of his children, the things that they've been through behind
- 10:02Speaker 1: closed doors that none of us know. It's like you
- 10:06Speaker 1: see red and you can't you can't come to the
- 10:09Speaker 1: table with like this well thought out because like it
- 10:14Speaker 1: takes over right and your heart is pounding and you
- 10:16Speaker 1: can't think right, and there's some disconnect between what comes
- 10:20Speaker 1: out of your mouth and what your mind is wanting
- 10:22Speaker 1: to have happened your brain and your body, Like it's
- 10:25Speaker 1: happened to me many many times.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Oh one hundred, it's happened to me over way smaller things,
- 10:30Speaker 2: so I can't even imagine. And it was on TV
- 10:33Speaker 2: where he laughs the first couple seconds. Granted some people
- 10:37Speaker 2: are like, oh, that's an angry laugh. That's what I'm
- 10:39Speaker 2: about to lose my shit laugh, and other people are like, no,
- 10:41Speaker 2: he thought it was funny. And then he looked over
- 10:43Speaker 2: at Jada and she just looked. There was something that
- 10:47Speaker 2: came up like what a what a fucking low blow?
- 10:50Speaker 2: Like really you're gonna And then I think that's when
- 10:53Speaker 2: people said he just kind of turn, you know, like
- 10:57Speaker 2: saw red.
- 10:58Speaker 1: So I have. I don't look it up. Now that
- 11:01Speaker 1: I know what happened, I will be you doing this today.
- 11:04Speaker 2: You have to look it up. You have to look
- 11:06Speaker 2: it up because, well simply because I just want to.
- 11:09Speaker 1: See your reaction. To be honest, I don't know I have.
- 11:14Speaker 1: There's something about someone touching another person that sends me
- 11:20Speaker 1: into like I feel ill.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Yeah, the physical like physical harm.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Yes. Like I remember driving through this cute, cute fucking neighborhood. Okay,
- 11:30Speaker 1: it was so cute, and then I roll up into
- 11:33Speaker 1: where I hit Melrose and I see this group of
- 11:37Speaker 1: people filming these two dudes beating each other up, and
- 11:41Speaker 1: I wanted to get out of my car stop them
- 11:44Speaker 1: from filming. It's like, this is not funny, this is
- 11:47Speaker 1: not cool, this is like, we are not animals. Why
- 11:52Speaker 1: are you touching another person?
- 11:55Speaker 2: It makes me sick to nauseous, like it makes me ill,
- 11:59Speaker 2: and I'm angry to a level that it's like my thoughts.
- 12:02Speaker 2: I'm like, whoa, I scare myself, Like when I see
- 12:05Speaker 2: especially and I've told you this before with children and
- 12:09Speaker 2: the elderly, you wanna, I mean, it's like the anger
- 12:13Speaker 2: that bubbles up deep inside of me. I'm like, oh, okay,
- 12:16Speaker 2: but whoa.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I know, like when I saw these two dudes fighting,
- 12:19Speaker 1: I was like, I'm gonna come beat the fuck out
- 12:21Speaker 1: of both of you. Yeah, because it's wrong. No, it's wrong.
- 12:24Speaker 2: And then you have people recording with their phones.
- 12:26Speaker 1: It's so it's so gross, Like let's just like not
- 12:31Speaker 1: touch other people, yeah, in a harmful way, Like, let's
- 12:34Speaker 1: just not do that. I feel like it's not a
- 12:36Speaker 1: difficult thing. Yeah, it's not. Yeah. I pushed Kristen Dotie
- 12:41Speaker 1: season four, Okay, And I was like when I woke
- 12:45Speaker 1: up the next morning, Yeah, I have never been more
- 12:49Speaker 1: disgusted in myself.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Wait, season four? Was that not sober Lalla?
- 12:53Speaker 1: No, okay, sober Lalla? Really sober Lalla happened? Season eight? Okay?
- 13:01Speaker 2: Yeah, you pushed her. I can't remember this, I'm sure
- 13:05Speaker 2: I've seen it. But was it like you guys were
- 13:07Speaker 2: fighting arguing.
- 13:08Speaker 1: She had made a comment and I was and I
- 13:11Speaker 1: was upset about what she had said, and my just
- 13:15Speaker 1: initial drunken reaction was telling her to set the fuck
- 13:19Speaker 1: down and then making her set the fuck down by
- 13:21Speaker 1: shoving her. And I was like, what was that? Yeah?
- 13:26Speaker 2: Yeah, isn't that crazy? And you think and you would like,
- 13:30Speaker 2: I can't even picture you doing that. You think back
- 13:33Speaker 2: of you think back at yourself at those times, and
- 13:36Speaker 2: you're like, what on earth? I had gotten close to
- 13:41Speaker 2: push my friend Angela. I'm going to her bachelort party
- 13:43Speaker 2: and I like next weekend in a couple weekends, and
- 13:46Speaker 2: we were roommates, and I remember your listeners will love this.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I remember her going we were in a fight and
- 13:52Speaker 2: like our girls like screaming fight, and there was five
- 13:55Speaker 2: of us girls living in a house and I was
- 13:58Speaker 2: yelling at her and I was like yelling at her,
- 14:02Speaker 2: and she looked at me and she said.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Your voice is so annoying.
- 14:06Speaker 2: My ears are hurting. And I got so mad and
- 14:10Speaker 2: I literally almost pushed her in my girl roommate like
- 14:14Speaker 2: hands were up, and she just like drugged me back.
- 14:17Speaker 2: And I think back to that time, I'm like I
- 14:18Speaker 2: was gonna push her. What a crazy person.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Well, the any listener who's ever commented on your voice,
- 14:25Speaker 1: you better watch out because Jessica will come and shove
- 14:28Speaker 1: you or try to, so you better have someone there
- 14:30Speaker 1: to stop her. Now you've asked her my picture, You're
- 14:33Speaker 1: like such a little fairy. I could never picture you
- 14:35Speaker 1: like wanting to shove something.
- 14:37Speaker 2: It was alcohol. It was like alcohol, It's just like
- 14:41Speaker 2: you you know, it's released your inhibitions, feel the rein
- 14:45Speaker 2: on your skin. It's just like, that's what I mean.
- 14:50Speaker 2: I'm not like that anymore having cocktails.
- 14:52Speaker 1: But it's just you've grown up.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know you're young and you're like feeling insecure.
- 14:58Speaker 2: I'm so insecure about certain things. And it just made
- 15:01Speaker 2: me like I'm so insecure. So I'm going to be
- 15:04Speaker 2: louder and act like I'm not insecure at all, you know.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Oskad It is weird. I wear so much that I've
- 15:10Speaker 1: done where I'm like, I could never ever imagine, like,
- 15:13Speaker 1: who even is that person? I heard you had an
- 15:18Speaker 1: amazing weekend at the beach. I did have an amazing
- 15:21Speaker 1: weekend at the beach, so I was kind of, I'm
- 15:24Speaker 1: not kind of. I was very bummed. So I was
- 15:27Speaker 1: supposed to have the boobs done and the airpinned back
- 15:31Speaker 1: on Friday, and all last week I was just not
- 15:36Speaker 1: feeling good. I just was feeling under the weather. And
- 15:42Speaker 1: then I look at my schedule and we have like,
- 15:45Speaker 1: by the way, the paperback of Give Them La La,
- 15:48Speaker 1: my book a national bestseller is coming out on April twelfth,
- 15:52Speaker 1: so we have a lot of press coming up. Traveling
- 15:56Speaker 1: that's happening, and I'm looking I'm feeling the way I'm
- 15:58Speaker 1: feeling knowing okay, and keep in mind, like I've been
- 16:01Speaker 1: under anesthesia before, but there's something about it that makes
- 16:05Speaker 1: me nervous. Even though people go under all the time,
- 16:09Speaker 1: it is such a small percent chance that you would
- 16:11Speaker 1: not come out of it, right, But I have a
- 16:14Speaker 1: little girl, and I'm like, I can't chance that I'm
- 16:17Speaker 1: not feeling great. You're gonna put me into the deepest
- 16:20Speaker 1: sleep I'll ever be in unless I'm dead. The only
- 16:24Speaker 1: thing deeper than anesthesia is me being dead being dead. Okay.
- 16:28Speaker 1: So I was like that, I don't like that. Then
- 16:32Speaker 1: that paired with my schedule in us having to be
- 16:35Speaker 1: back at work, which God forbid there's any complication I
- 16:38Speaker 1: can miss out on work right now. And I just
- 16:41Speaker 1: like took a minute and said, do we do this
- 16:45Speaker 1: right now? Or are we rushing it? And there was
- 16:49Speaker 1: something about I'm like, why am I feeling like having
- 16:52Speaker 1: my boobs done in my earpinned back? Are I'm treating
- 16:55Speaker 1: it like it's just no big deal? And it is
- 16:57Speaker 1: no big like, it's not like I'm having some big
- 17:00Speaker 1: surgery that.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Right, But anytime you'll go under anything, my parents say this,
- 17:05Speaker 2: anytime you go under, it's a big deal.
- 17:06Speaker 1: It's a big deal.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:07Speaker 1: So I know people get their boobs done every second
- 17:10Speaker 1: of the day, like whatever. Not really I'm not really
- 17:13Speaker 1: sure how people are getting their boobs done a lot,
- 17:16Speaker 1: but there's a lot of boob jobs happening, yes, okay,
- 17:18Speaker 1: especially in La. Yeah. Correct. But I just was like,
- 17:21Speaker 1: you know what, we're going to do this when we
- 17:23Speaker 1: have some more like time where I can look at
- 17:26Speaker 1: my schedule and I can say, this chunk of time,
- 17:29Speaker 1: I'm not doing anything, don't bug me, I'm going to oh.
- 17:33Speaker 1: And then the other thing I'm looking at, I'm looking
- 17:35Speaker 1: at my freaking sheet of what to do and what
- 17:37Speaker 1: not to do. It says avoid taking these over the
- 17:41Speaker 1: counters for two weeks before you go in to surgery.
- 17:46Speaker 1: And I last week or no, the week before was
- 17:50Speaker 1: like constant migraine every day. So I was just popping
- 17:53Speaker 1: advil like no one's business, trying to be a functioning person.
- 17:57Speaker 2: And that was on the list.
- 17:58Speaker 1: And that was on the freaking list, Like what am
- 18:00Speaker 1: I doing.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no reason to rush it. I really like
- 18:05Speaker 2: that decision that you made because why no, you're right.
- 18:08Speaker 2: You want to feel one hundred percent. You don't want
- 18:10Speaker 2: to be like, Okay, I have five days to heal,
- 18:12Speaker 2: because God forbid, healing takes a little longer.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Well, you know me, I am a fragile person. Like
- 18:18Speaker 1: the tiniest little things take me out.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Yeah, but you're also kind of you're really dedicated to
- 18:25Speaker 2: your work. And I have, like you've been having the
- 18:27Speaker 2: worst migraine and I'm like, can we do this? And
- 18:29Speaker 2: you're like, yeah, let's like get it done, get it
- 18:31Speaker 2: over with. But you don't want to do that when
- 18:33Speaker 2: your body is like you've had like actual incisions and
- 18:37Speaker 2: your body's trying to heal. You don't want to be
- 18:40Speaker 2: like whatever, let's just work. Like, no, you can't.
- 18:43Speaker 1: So we pushed the surgery off until May and then
- 18:51Speaker 1: and hopefully we get another season by then, and you
- 18:53Speaker 1: guys can see my little transformation.
- 18:55Speaker 2: That would actually be great too. It like you're healing
- 18:58Speaker 2: your transformation, yeah on the show.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Yeah, well my boobs, Jess, I can't even get cleavage
- 19:05Speaker 1: because when moms have said to me, if you breastfeed
- 19:08Speaker 1: your kids sucks the life out of them, They truly do. Yeah,
- 19:11Speaker 1: what are these little half deflated water balloons? What even
- 19:17Speaker 1: are they?
- 19:18Speaker 3: You know?
- 19:18Speaker 1: And like the left one got so much bigger, and
- 19:21Speaker 1: that's the one that ocean preferred, and that one's like
- 19:23Speaker 1: sitting really pretty, but I can't get it up to
- 19:25Speaker 1: be like sexy.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Okay, right, yeah, okay.
- 19:29Speaker 1: And then my ears. I've been so insecure about my
- 19:32Speaker 1: left ear since the time I was a little kid.
- 19:34Speaker 1: And there's so many insecurities that we all have. But
- 19:37Speaker 1: I feel like as we get older, there are times
- 19:39Speaker 1: where it's like I've now accepted it and I'm good
- 19:42Speaker 1: with it. You know, it's cute now whatever, I can
- 19:45Speaker 1: get over it. Still at the age of thirty one,
- 19:47Speaker 1: I'm insecure about the left ear. So I said, fuck it,
- 19:50Speaker 1: I'm getting it pinned back. I don't care.
- 19:52Speaker 2: We're doing it as you should. Yeah, what makes it
- 19:55Speaker 2: feel good?
- 19:56Speaker 1: Yeah, if we're if we film another season, if we
- 20:00Speaker 1: another season, then obviously you know we'll have you guys
- 20:03Speaker 1: will be able to see a little bit of my
- 20:06Speaker 1: what is it called mommy makeover?
- 20:08Speaker 2: Mommy makeover and a lot of slicked back hairdoos with
- 20:11Speaker 2: those new ears.
- 20:12Speaker 1: I know, yeah, that's gonna look nice. I can't wait.
- 20:16Speaker 1: So yeah, I went down to Newport with Ocean. My
- 20:19Speaker 1: mom's dear friend has a home there, and we stayed
- 20:21Speaker 1: for five days and it was like the best. I
- 20:24Speaker 1: left my phone. Yeah, I haven't done that in so.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Long, like just left it back at the house.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Yeah, like I had my phone with me, but yeah,
- 20:32Speaker 1: if we ventured out, it was like at the house, like,
- 20:34Speaker 1: don't I don't need to look at it. Everything can wait.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I haven't felt like anything could wait in a long time.
- 20:41Speaker 2: It's really important to do that. I'm a huge believer.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Well I tell you, I'm like a big believer in
- 20:46Speaker 2: mental health. Days and then just like unplugging, unplugged, get
- 20:50Speaker 2: your brain back to like refresh yourself. You can be
- 20:54Speaker 2: like on that phone, not you, but like you as
- 20:56Speaker 2: in the general people can be on your phone and
- 21:00Speaker 2: it's just it's like hours go by and it's work,
- 21:02Speaker 2: it's personal stuff. And then you're like another day of
- 21:06Speaker 2: spending eight hours on my phone or in my computer screen.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Well and you just realize after you've trolled the gram
- 21:13Speaker 1: fifteen hundred times or you've looked at every text message
- 21:17Speaker 1: and replied to it like you do feel different. You
- 21:21Speaker 1: feel like someone has taken something from you. You feel depleted,
- 21:25Speaker 1: you're on edge. You're wondering why you feel on edge.
- 21:28Speaker 1: And for me, it goes back to you scrolled too much.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Just scrolled too much, you know you scrolled.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Don't scroll too much.
- 21:36Speaker 1: No, avoid the explore page at all costs. So today
- 21:41Speaker 1: on the podcast, you guys know him as Manny Mu
- 21:44Speaker 1: a makeup artist. God, I mean, he just knows the
- 21:51Speaker 1: freaking face so well. But he's self taught. Wow, I
- 21:55Speaker 1: didn't know that beyond Like I look at his stuff
- 21:58Speaker 1: all the time and I'm like, it's just flawless, you know.
- 22:02Speaker 1: And I like when because there's certain makeup artists where
- 22:05Speaker 1: I'm like that's cool, But where am I gonna wear
- 22:07Speaker 1: butterflies all over my face?
- 22:11Speaker 2: You know? Right?
- 22:12Speaker 1: Yeah, Like it's cool to watch, but like, who's actually
- 22:15Speaker 1: doing that? It's gonna yeah, right, So Manny does across
- 22:19Speaker 1: the board, I'm gonna ask him, like, how does one
- 22:22Speaker 1: contour a face? Because I'm still you know, I just
- 22:27Speaker 1: like I contour the way that I just I know
- 22:29Speaker 1: how and I think it works for my face. Yeah,
- 22:33Speaker 1: but I just want to know, like the little details
- 22:35Speaker 1: like what should one have at all times, Like what's
- 22:38Speaker 1: the game changer where you don't have to put a
- 22:41Speaker 1: lot of effort into it and you can just like
- 22:43Speaker 1: feel sexy still. So I have all the questions for him.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I'm super excited to have him on the podcast, especially
- 22:49Speaker 1: because he also has a makeup line, and I think,
- 22:53Speaker 1: you know, I'm the type of person where other people
- 22:56Speaker 1: that have makeup brands or skincare lines like I don't see.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I think there's enough for everybody.
- 23:04Speaker 3: M hm.
- 23:04Speaker 1: You know, like when you hear like, yes, this business
- 23:07Speaker 1: is oversaturated, Like no, not really, yeah, not really. I
- 23:12Speaker 1: encourage if you're interested in something and you want to
- 23:15Speaker 1: start something, do it. And like there's no such thing
- 23:19Speaker 1: as too many cooks in the kitchen, Like I want
- 23:22Speaker 1: to pick your brain, how do you make your brand better?
- 23:25Speaker 1: I just get inspired by people who are doing the
- 23:27Speaker 1: damn thing. So he'll be on the podcast. I want
- 23:29Speaker 1: to remind you guys that I'm going on motherfucking toy
- 23:33Speaker 1: you motherfucking welcome. We're kicking off in Irvine, which I'm
- 23:41Speaker 1: super excited about, and then the next stop is going
- 23:44Speaker 1: to be Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which that's going to be
- 23:47Speaker 1: a vibe. All the Florida dates are going to be
- 23:49Speaker 1: a vibe. We've got Clearwater Orlando. Then I'm going to Atlanta, Georgia.
- 23:55Speaker 1: We'll have fun guests there. We'll have fun guests everywhere.
- 23:57Speaker 1: I'm super excited Nashville, New Orleans, Hugh Austin, and will
- 24:01Speaker 1: wrap up in Dallas, Texas. So if you want to
- 24:04Speaker 1: come and play with me, I would love to meet you.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I would love to have the best time ever with you.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Go to give Them Live dot com. I really can't
- 24:14Speaker 1: wait to see you guys there. It is the Give
- 24:16Speaker 1: Them La La brand new tour and reminder that my
- 24:20Speaker 1: book Give Them Lala is now available in paperback, which
- 24:23Speaker 1: is the best day ever for me because I don't
- 24:25Speaker 1: really enjoy hardcovers.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Paperback's the best. I've said that I travel with paperback
- 24:30Speaker 2: constantly because you can just like move it around. It's easier.
- 24:34Speaker 2: I love folding back. Folding back.
- 24:37Speaker 1: It shows me how far I'm getting. I'm like, oh,
- 24:39Speaker 1: now I've got to fold it the other way. Yes,
- 24:41Speaker 1: I'm so far into it. There's nothing better than flipping
- 24:44Speaker 1: the page to a paperback book. And this one I'm
- 24:48Speaker 1: super excited about because it has the stamp on it
- 24:52Speaker 1: of national bestseller.
- 24:53Speaker 2: A gorgeous red stamp National bestseller. And also paperback smells better,
- 24:58Speaker 2: you guys. And if you don't believe me, get my
- 25:00Speaker 2: paperback book, and like it smells like the library.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Yeah. And I just think I'm super proud of the book.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I really am. And even though there's things in there
- 25:11Speaker 1: where I'm like, wow, this is like a whole nother lifetime,
- 25:17Speaker 1: it's just like it's a good read. It's a good read,
- 25:21Speaker 1: and it's easy. I know you're all shocked by that
- 25:24Speaker 1: when people say I loved it. I couldn't put it down.
- 25:27Speaker 1: It was such an easy read. I know they're being
- 25:29Speaker 1: kind like it was an easy read, because in my
- 25:32Speaker 1: mind it was just that good. Yeah. But I'm like, no,
- 25:35Speaker 1: it's like an easy read, you guys.
- 25:37Speaker 2: No, but it's it's also I'm so sorry, you guys.
- 25:40Speaker 2: I'm gonna kiss Lalla's ass again. It was also just
- 25:42Speaker 2: a I read it. I got hired with Laala, and
- 25:45Speaker 2: then that next weekend I was gonna start and so
- 25:47Speaker 2: I bought the book, read it, and it was a
- 25:51Speaker 2: very good read. It's like page to page and then
- 25:54Speaker 2: the chapter ends, and then you're like, but wait, and
- 25:57Speaker 2: I'm not gonna stop at this chapter because like it's
- 25:59Speaker 2: a cliffhanger on I go to the next. It's great.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Well, thank you for saying that. I'm very proud of it.
- 26:03Speaker 1: And yeah, you guys should buy it, just saying all right,
- 26:07Speaker 1: so yeah, you guys should totally buy the paperback of
- 26:10Speaker 1: my book, just to saying, show your girl a little
- 26:13Speaker 1: bit more love because I need it. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 26:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna take a shot. What is it with me
- 26:19Speaker 1: and the singing song? It's because I have a kid, yeah,
- 26:21Speaker 1: and so everything turns into a song. Anyway, we are
- 26:24Speaker 1: going to cut to a brake. We'll be right back,
- 26:29Speaker 1: all right, you guys, we're back, and I think everyone's
- 26:32Speaker 1: going to freak out because we have Manny. I mean,
- 26:38Speaker 1: come on, make up by Manny. I've loved you for
- 26:42Speaker 1: a long time.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Thank you so much. You're so freaking sweet. I really
- 26:46Speaker 4: appreciate that.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I mean, I'm just honest. I just think you're fabulous.
- 26:50Speaker 1: You're amazing at what you do, and I'm actually in
- 26:53Speaker 1: awe and inspired with what you've created. So I want
- 26:57Speaker 1: to deep dive into like when you discovered you were like,
- 27:00Speaker 1: oh my gosh, makeup is my jam and we're running
- 27:03Speaker 1: with it.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Absolutely. Yeah. No.
- 27:04Speaker 4: So for me, you know, I feel like I started
- 27:06Speaker 4: in my makeup journey because I started like kind of
- 27:10Speaker 4: doing drag a little bit.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Okay, this is like ten years ago.
- 27:13Speaker 4: So I had done drag a few times for friends
- 27:15Speaker 4: birthdays or Halloween, and I enjoyed like the aspect of glamming, right.
- 27:20Speaker 4: I loved glamming getting ready for it, but I didn't
- 27:22Speaker 4: really love like wearing wigs and dresses and heels and
- 27:27Speaker 4: nails and all that was just I was like, oh
- 27:29Speaker 4: my god, this is like a lot. I really like
- 27:30Speaker 4: the makeup. So the makeup is what kind of stuck
- 27:32Speaker 4: to me, and I really really enjoyed that aspect of
- 27:36Speaker 4: the transformation of getting ready. So that's kind of where
- 27:40Speaker 4: I found like my love of makeup and trying it out,
- 27:42Speaker 4: and that's like kind of where it really really started me.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Was like, kind of doing.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Drag, were you always good at it or was it
- 27:48Speaker 1: something that you like had to work at. I mean,
- 27:51Speaker 1: you're fantastic at it now, but are you self taught?
- 27:53Speaker 3: I am.
- 27:54Speaker 4: I'm self taught, like taught on YouTube. I actually so
- 27:57Speaker 4: for me, it was weird. I actually feel like I
- 27:59Speaker 4: always had like a very actual affinity for makeup, Like
- 28:02Speaker 4: I was like, I mean my first photo was yeah,
- 28:04Speaker 4: like they're not good, but I've seen much worse, you
- 28:07Speaker 4: know what I mean? Like I wasn't like bad at
- 28:09Speaker 4: it because I would also watch my mom glam, like
- 28:11Speaker 4: when I was a baby and like when I was
- 28:12Speaker 4: a little kid, and she would glam in the morning
- 28:14Speaker 4: and she would glimb every single bation as a glam
- 28:15Speaker 4: girl too. So I've always just been around it. My
- 28:17Speaker 4: grandma was a hairdresser. I've always been around like the
- 28:20Speaker 4: glam in my life.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Okay, it just kind of came natural to me.
- 28:23Speaker 1: And where did you grow up?
- 28:25Speaker 3: I grew in San Diego, born and raised Lavissa.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Born and raised San Diego. Talk me through what like
- 28:32Speaker 1: that was? Like, do they haven't like when you, you know,
- 28:35Speaker 1: get into your fabulousness and you do drag, Like are
- 28:39Speaker 1: people looking at you crazy? Because I live I live
- 28:41Speaker 1: in La I've lived here for quite some time. You know,
- 28:44Speaker 1: we see drag all over the place and it's fabulous,
- 28:47Speaker 1: But like, what was it like down there?
- 28:48Speaker 4: I would only go out and drag in the gay
- 28:50Speaker 4: area in Hillcrest, which is like the kind of like
- 28:52Speaker 4: the gay area of San Diego. And I live in
- 28:55Speaker 4: La now, of course, but I was out there, you know,
- 28:58Speaker 4: my whole life, and it was honestly being in California.
- 29:01Speaker 4: I feel like I'm so lucky and so blessed being in
- 29:02Speaker 4: southern California because I feel like I'm in.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Like this like little liberal bubble.
- 29:06Speaker 4: Right, and it's like it's not the same as if
- 29:08Speaker 4: I would go in like let's say, Men of America
- 29:10Speaker 4: going out and dragging might be a different situation. But
- 29:12Speaker 4: because it was in San Diego and California, I mean,
- 29:15Speaker 4: don't get me wrong, I still definitely got like weird stairs,
- 29:17Speaker 4: especially when I worked at I worked at a Sephora
- 29:19Speaker 4: and say JC Penny, my first like makeup job was
- 29:22Speaker 4: a Sephora in said JC Penny. So I worked there
- 29:24Speaker 4: and I would glam to work, but I would like
- 29:26Speaker 4: go to the food court to get lunch, right right,
- 29:28Speaker 4: Those walks from from fucking Jacy Penny all the way
- 29:32Speaker 4: through the food court were long walk so that people
- 29:34Speaker 4: be looking at me. They'd be staring at me, like
- 29:36Speaker 4: very strange, especially like this is like eight years ago. Okay,
- 29:40Speaker 4: so it just wasn't as seen to see boys with
- 29:43Speaker 4: beards like wearing makeup, you know, So it definitely was
- 29:47Speaker 4: like a very weird and odd thing in the beginning.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Right, Okay, you're working at Sephora. Do they glam at Sephora?
- 29:54Speaker 1: Listen to me, I'm a ninet year old. I'm like,
- 29:55Speaker 1: do they glam in that in that place?
- 29:58Speaker 3: Yes? Yes?
- 29:59Speaker 4: No?
- 29:59Speaker 3: So you people that station for.
- 30:02Speaker 1: You, that was like the ultimate class, right. It was
- 30:06Speaker 1: like every day you have people coming in asking what
- 30:08Speaker 1: you're wearing. Like that kind of prepped you to be
- 30:11Speaker 1: this like makeup mogul and starting your own beauty brand,
- 30:15Speaker 1: which is called Lunar.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Yes, liter Red. You're absolutely right.
- 30:18Speaker 4: I feel like that's kind of what kind of started
- 30:20Speaker 4: me off because I feel like I was working at
- 30:22Speaker 4: Sephora and SoDC Penny and I was like loving in
- 30:24Speaker 4: and that's kind of what taught me how to be
- 30:26Speaker 4: into makeup and skincare and fragrance and that's kind of
- 30:29Speaker 4: you know, support has everything, right, So I wasn't like
- 30:32Speaker 4: a melting pot of so much.
- 30:33Speaker 3: So I learned a lot from there.
- 30:34Speaker 4: But then I started working at Mac and Mac was
- 30:36Speaker 4: like more so about like artistry and like teaching me
- 30:39Speaker 4: how to do makeup. And that's kind of where I
- 30:41Speaker 4: learned the skills on that spectrum when it came to
- 30:45Speaker 4: like actually doing makeup. So I was self taught and
- 30:47Speaker 4: then I started working at these places where.
- 30:49Speaker 3: I learned more.
- 30:50Speaker 1: See for me, I'm a one trick pony when it
- 30:52Speaker 1: comes to my my makeup. I'm like, if we're not
- 30:55Speaker 1: doing the same thing every day, I don't know how
- 30:58Speaker 1: to do it.
- 30:59Speaker 3: You're over it?
- 30:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm over it. I've watched a million YouTube tutorials
- 31:04Speaker 1: on how to contour properly. Manny, I still don't get
- 31:08Speaker 1: that shit.
- 31:09Speaker 3: You don't even need to Your cheeks are so good.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Well, thank you, doctor Diamond.
- 31:14Speaker 3: I love it. I love it.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Like the baking process. What when someone comes to you
- 31:19Speaker 1: and they're like, I just want to know an everyday
- 31:22Speaker 1: look where I can look fabulous. I don't have three
- 31:26Speaker 1: hours to bake this space. Do you still have these
- 31:30Speaker 1: tips where it's like, oh, we can glam you in
- 31:32Speaker 1: fifteen minutes.
- 31:34Speaker 4: Like there's always like there's always like little things you
- 31:36Speaker 4: can do to just amp up your look already, Like
- 31:39Speaker 4: adding blush is a big thing, Like adding a little
- 31:41Speaker 4: bit of blush gives you like that like kind of
- 31:42Speaker 4: rosiness back in the face. Adding some Meskira, adding some gloss,
- 31:47Speaker 4: like doing like little things like that really make a
- 31:48Speaker 4: huge Adding some concealer, right, make a huge difference to
- 31:51Speaker 4: make you feel like an elevated version of yourself. So
- 31:54Speaker 4: there's definitely like little tips and tricks you can do
- 31:56Speaker 4: to make it look like, Oh, you put some work in, Like,
- 31:58Speaker 4: for example, what I have on right now five minutes Max.
- 32:02Speaker 1: What do you have on right now? Because you look amazing?
- 32:04Speaker 3: Oh thank you.
- 32:05Speaker 4: I really I just have like a tinte moistriiser on
- 32:07Speaker 4: a little me con See, there's some blush, some faux freckles.
- 32:11Speaker 3: It's some gloss and some gloss.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Always have to have the gloss. I love that you're
- 32:15Speaker 1: talking about blush because most people, at least for me
- 32:19Speaker 1: and people that I've spoken to, when you think about blush,
- 32:22Speaker 1: like I think about my mom and her friends going
- 32:25Speaker 1: to clinique and getting that like bright pink blush, and
- 32:28Speaker 1: you're like, oh my god, this is terrifying. Like what
- 32:32Speaker 1: type of hue do you look for in your blush?
- 32:34Speaker 1: Does it all depend on your skin tone? Because I
- 32:36Speaker 1: tend to gravitate towards more of like a purple hue
- 32:39Speaker 1: rather than the pink undertones. Yes, but like, how does
- 32:42Speaker 1: someone choose a blush?
- 32:44Speaker 4: Well, for me, I'm so all about, like, bitch, whatever,
- 32:47Speaker 4: whatever the fuck you want to wear, you know, I'm like,
- 32:48Speaker 4: if you want to wear an orange blush and you're
- 32:50Speaker 4: pale as hell and wear the orange blush like, I
- 32:52Speaker 4: don't care.
- 32:52Speaker 1: I love you for that, that's a no.
- 32:55Speaker 3: I love you too.
- 32:56Speaker 4: But so for me, when it comes like, let's say
- 32:58Speaker 4: color theory, if you really want to like get into it,
- 33:00Speaker 4: I would say, for like fairer complexions like mine, sticking
- 33:03Speaker 4: to like lighter pinks look really really good because it
- 33:05Speaker 4: just kind of looks more natural, can you know? The
- 33:07Speaker 4: more medium, more tanned, sticking to more orange undertones look
- 33:10Speaker 4: really really nice on that complexion. So and like if
- 33:13Speaker 4: your deeper, deeper in complexion, purples look really really good.
- 33:16Speaker 3: So it just kind of.
- 33:16Speaker 4: Depends on your scene tone in that way. But I'm
- 33:19Speaker 4: so all about, like I literally don't care, like what's
- 33:22Speaker 4: meant for my I will wear orange blushes, I'll wear
- 33:24Speaker 4: purple blushes, I'll wear pinky blushes.
- 33:26Speaker 3: Like I don't mind. I think for me, as long
- 33:28Speaker 3: as I want to wear it, I'm gonna wear it.
- 33:29Speaker 3: I love that, but really want it to be like, oh, well,
- 33:32Speaker 3: what's works for me?
- 33:33Speaker 4: You know a little bit more of pinky undertone because
- 33:35Speaker 4: it's like cool tone, right, if your cooler tone pinks
- 33:38Speaker 4: more cool tone than orange.
- 33:39Speaker 3: Okay, so if you're warmer, the orange works better.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Judging me through a zoom call, should I be avoiding
- 33:46Speaker 1: the purply undertones?
- 33:48Speaker 3: I don't think you should be avoiding them.
- 33:49Speaker 4: I just think that if you wore like I would
- 33:52Speaker 4: say for your scene to I think like the like
- 33:54Speaker 4: apricot orange tones would look really really pretty.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Okay, I can mess with that, but I love it.
- 34:00Speaker 1: I'm the same way, Like I feel like if someone
- 34:02Speaker 1: walks out of the house and everyone around is thinking
- 34:04Speaker 1: like this is not a good look, but that person
- 34:07Speaker 1: feels beautiful and amazing, I'm like, let let the motherfucker live.
- 34:11Speaker 3: No, literally, like, let that bitch live. That's how I
- 34:13Speaker 3: feel too.
- 34:13Speaker 4: And I'll see it's so funny obviously on TikTok, Like
- 34:15Speaker 4: I'll be scrolling on there and then I'll someone put
- 34:17Speaker 4: together like the wackiest outfit ever and they love it.
- 34:20Speaker 4: So much, and I'm just like, go you right, I
- 34:22Speaker 4: would never wear it, But I'm like, as long as
- 34:24Speaker 4: you're happy, like you rock that shit, you.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Know, rock that shit. I want to deep dive into.
- 34:30Speaker 1: First of all, your YouTube channel. Your views are insane,
- 34:34Speaker 1: Oh thank you? How much time and commitment does it
- 34:38Speaker 1: take to build that? I mean even your Instagram is insane,
- 34:41Speaker 1: your following is insane. Like how much time do you
- 34:45Speaker 1: take on a regular basis to just bang out content
- 34:48Speaker 1: and looks like it looks exhausting and I'm fucking inspired
- 34:52Speaker 1: and proud.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it definitely it takes time. I'm not
- 34:54Speaker 3: gonna lie like it.
- 34:55Speaker 4: I'm not gonna be like, oh my god, it's so
- 34:57Speaker 4: hard when it's like there are harder jobs out there,
- 35:00Speaker 4: know what I mean, Right, But it definitely does take
- 35:03Speaker 4: a lot of time. It takes a lot of you know,
- 35:05Speaker 4: energy to like put yourself into doing these situations, putting
- 35:08Speaker 4: yourself into the content because you want to be the best.
- 35:10Speaker 3: It can be, you know, of course.
- 35:12Speaker 4: Yeah, But I mean I've been doing it for so long,
- 35:13Speaker 4: since I was fourteen, so I've just been doing it
- 35:15Speaker 4: for a good amount of time. I've kind of like
- 35:18Speaker 4: have a rhythm down where it's like, Okay, I have
- 35:20Speaker 4: like my content days where I'll be like filming a
- 35:22Speaker 4: YouTube video, but I'm also going to like double dip
- 35:23Speaker 4: and off on like an Instagram reel, but also to
- 35:25Speaker 4: film with TikTok at the same time, just so I
- 35:27Speaker 4: can like kind of get multiple things done instead of
- 35:29Speaker 4: it just being like one after the other after the other.
- 35:32Speaker 4: Like I'm like, no, I get busy. I have to
- 35:34Speaker 4: like double dip when I'm doing content nowadays.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Right, kill two birds or multiple birds with one stone? Yes?
- 35:40Speaker 3: All five birds?
- 35:41Speaker 1: Yeah? Five birds? Yeah. Do you do multiple looks? Because
- 35:44Speaker 1: I can't imagine that. A lot of your looks are quick.
- 35:47Speaker 1: I mean they're like you're taking your face which is
- 35:50Speaker 1: then turned into a canvas and painting something beautiful onto it. Right,
- 35:53Speaker 1: do you do multiple looks in one day? No? Fuck? No?
- 35:57Speaker 4: I literally like no, no, no, you get the one
- 35:59Speaker 4: and that's all you get.
- 36:00Speaker 1: I feel like I look at your videos and I'm like,
- 36:03Speaker 1: these are so spectacular. I first of all, I wouldn't
- 36:06Speaker 1: even know where to start. So you you've built something
- 36:08Speaker 1: incredible for yourself, and now you have lunar beauty. I
- 36:13Speaker 1: want to know anything and everything there is to know.
- 36:17Speaker 4: I mean, honestly, Lunar Beauty has been like my passion
- 36:19Speaker 4: project for years, right, I've been I've had it for
- 36:21Speaker 4: years now and twenty eighteen, and it's just been like
- 36:25Speaker 4: the coolest journey I've ever had because I've done collaborations
- 36:28Speaker 4: with brands like I BET where it's like many Inuit
- 36:30Speaker 4: X blank with the brands, and that's kind of where
- 36:33Speaker 4: I have my passion for creating makeup specifically, And I
- 36:36Speaker 4: was like, this is like my I feel like I'm
- 36:37Speaker 4: a Pokemon evolving. I'm like, I want to go to
- 36:39Speaker 4: the next thing, you know. And so it was like
- 36:41Speaker 4: creating content was fun and I absolutely love it, and
- 36:43Speaker 4: I still do that, but creating like product where people
- 36:46Speaker 4: can actually enjoy it and they know that I put
- 36:47Speaker 4: like my heart and soul into it, I just think
- 36:50Speaker 4: that's so fun, you know, And I think that's it's
- 36:51Speaker 4: probably one of the best things I've ever done with
- 36:54Speaker 4: my life, because it truly is like such a passion
- 36:56Speaker 4: of mine right to create makeup.
- 36:59Speaker 1: It makes sense, you would, I mean, who knows makeup
- 37:02Speaker 1: better than you? You're putting it on every day, I'm
- 37:04Speaker 1: sure you can tell and you know, I have my
- 37:07Speaker 1: beauty brand as well. It really is. It's a passion project.
- 37:12Speaker 1: And you know, I can tell that you're like me,
- 37:14Speaker 1: I'm not just going to put something out that I
- 37:16Speaker 1: haven't tried, that I haven't formulated on my own exactly right.
- 37:19Speaker 1: So I get that whole process, and I love that
- 37:22Speaker 1: you go through that same process as well. What did
- 37:24Speaker 1: you start with, Like when you first launched? What did
- 37:28Speaker 1: you have? So?
- 37:29Speaker 4: For me, I started off with a product called Life
- 37:31Speaker 4: of Drag and it was a drag inspired palette because
- 37:35Speaker 4: you know, my makeup journey started in drag. So it
- 37:38Speaker 4: was like this half neutral, half bold kind of palate
- 37:42Speaker 4: like anyone can kind of create anything. That was the
- 37:44Speaker 4: whole point of it, right, And so I was kind
- 37:45Speaker 4: of like an ode to like my beginning, right, It's like, okay,
- 37:49Speaker 4: LiF's of Drag. It was really fun and it had
- 37:51Speaker 4: like my eyes on it and drag and it was
- 37:53Speaker 4: really cute for me. That was like my first wife
- 37:55Speaker 4: was the first thing was that n shot of palette,
- 37:57Speaker 4: you know, and so people loved it. They loved the formulation,
- 37:59Speaker 4: you know, I worked. So I mean for me, like
- 38:01Speaker 4: I literally am a beauty groul. I test product for
- 38:02Speaker 4: a living. Right, that's literally what I do. So I
- 38:05Speaker 4: think that a lot of people can put their trust
- 38:07Speaker 4: in me when it comes to products that I create.
- 38:09Speaker 3: Souse, I'm like, yo, I literally do this for a living,
- 38:11Speaker 3: And if you trust my.
- 38:11Speaker 4: Opinion, and if you think that I like good shit
- 38:14Speaker 4: and I'll find good shit for you, then I'll make
- 38:15Speaker 4: good shit.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Too, of course.
- 38:17Speaker 4: So that's of what it kind of started as I'm
- 38:20Speaker 4: like passionate about this, I test make it for a living.
- 38:23Speaker 4: You can trust that if I'm testing this all the
- 38:25Speaker 4: time and I like it and it's good, chances are
- 38:28Speaker 4: you're gonna like it a lot too.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Of course, because you, like you said, you're a makeup guru,
- 38:32Speaker 1: so you would know what people want to put on
- 38:34Speaker 1: their face. Right, where did the name come from?
- 38:38Speaker 4: So I feel like for me, like I've always been
- 38:40Speaker 4: more inspired at nighttime, Like I'm like a night person.
- 38:43Speaker 4: I'm not really like a morning person. I'm very much
- 38:45Speaker 4: like I'll be awake late and like wake up late.
- 38:48Speaker 4: So it's like for me, I've always just felt more
- 38:51Speaker 4: inspired at night time, Like I felt a lot of
- 38:52Speaker 4: ideas come at nighttime.
- 38:53Speaker 3: And I was also hu trying to see the Moon when.
- 38:55Speaker 4: I was younger, and it was like my favorite anime
- 38:57Speaker 4: growing up, and so like the whole idea of like
- 38:59Speaker 4: seeing Moon and like the nighttime, and so Lunar Beauty
- 39:02Speaker 4: kind of just came to be when I was like, listen,
- 39:04Speaker 4: I'm not gonna have a bitch that's going to be
- 39:06Speaker 4: like like naming it after like man emuait beauty.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Like I'm just like not like that, right.
- 39:12Speaker 4: I wanted it to be its own thing in a
- 39:14Speaker 4: weird way, you know where I was like, I wanted
- 39:15Speaker 4: to do this sur vibe on its own, like and
- 39:18Speaker 4: if people, let's say people didn't like me, but if
- 39:20Speaker 4: you saw Lunar Beauty on its own, you can be like,
- 39:22Speaker 4: oh wow, this brand is sickening without me being attached totally.
- 39:26Speaker 1: For me, it was like I was creating this umbrella
- 39:29Speaker 1: and wanted a bunch of things underneath it, and so
- 39:31Speaker 1: it was just like everything is give them Laala, So
- 39:33Speaker 1: it's give them Laala beauty, and right right, it's great.
- 39:36Speaker 1: I love it. And the part where we get to
- 39:39Speaker 1: like pick the packaging. I love that we can bond over.
- 39:42Speaker 3: This, right Yeah, no, seriously, it's the best.
- 39:44Speaker 1: It's the best. And the naming of the products, and
- 39:46Speaker 1: then people that write like all of their reviews and
- 39:49Speaker 1: you're just excited. So I totally get that entire process
- 39:53Speaker 1: and you're killing it and I'm so honored to have
- 39:56Speaker 1: you on this podcast.
- 39:57Speaker 3: Thank you. No, it really is fun.
- 39:59Speaker 4: I mean, you have a beauty brand, like you know,
- 40:00Speaker 4: it's just a fun thing.
- 40:02Speaker 1: It is fun, like a gott project. It is, and
- 40:04Speaker 1: you wake up every day and you're excited to work
- 40:06Speaker 1: Like that was my main thing. As my dad always said,
- 40:09Speaker 1: make sure you find something that you love to do
- 40:12Speaker 1: and make that your job.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:14Speaker 1: So I'm proud of us both.
- 40:15Speaker 3: It's hard work, but does it feel like you're dragging on?
- 40:19Speaker 1: Right? You're enjoying yourself. So my listeners, I'm assuming and
- 40:24Speaker 1: if they're not like me, I'm sure there's a few
- 40:26Speaker 1: that are like me, where I'm like, yeah, I think
- 40:29Speaker 1: I know how to put my face together, but like,
- 40:32Speaker 1: what are some of your biggest makeup tips that you
- 40:35Speaker 1: see out there? And you're like, oh, good lord, if
- 40:37Speaker 1: I could just teach them how to do these simple
- 40:40Speaker 1: things to like really bring this together.
- 40:43Speaker 4: I mean, for me, I think a really big thing
- 40:45Speaker 4: is about being hydrated on the skin, Like that's like
- 40:47Speaker 4: a huge thing that a.
- 40:49Speaker 3: Lot of people like will kind of negate.
- 40:50Speaker 4: Like a lot of times people won't really use an
- 40:52Speaker 4: I cream in the morning before they probably concealer and
- 40:54Speaker 4: it looks kind of cracky and kaki under the eyes,
- 40:57Speaker 4: or you know, not drinking enough water in your skin
- 41:00Speaker 4: looks really dry and thirsty, things like that. I think
- 41:03Speaker 4: that the importance of like hydration, using like a really
- 41:05Speaker 4: dewey setting miss at the end after everything's set in
- 41:08Speaker 4: place to kind of give you that like healthy glow.
- 41:10Speaker 4: I think it's really important to kind of bring the
- 41:12Speaker 4: skin back. A lot of people will like set their
- 41:14Speaker 4: face with powders and then leave it at that, and
- 41:16Speaker 4: I'm like, you might want to bring you know, a
- 41:18Speaker 4: little bit of moisture back in just to kind of
- 41:20Speaker 4: make it not look so dry and make a bee
- 41:23Speaker 4: and heavy.
- 41:24Speaker 1: You know, like get rid of the cake.
- 41:25Speaker 4: Look Honestly, like a huge scan of setting sprays, whether
- 41:28Speaker 4: it's longer ones, you know, moisturizing ones, dewey ones. Just
- 41:32Speaker 4: kind of adding that as a final step really does
- 41:33Speaker 4: make a massive difference on the skin, especially when it
- 41:36Speaker 4: comes to like, you know, wanting to look more on
- 41:39Speaker 4: the natural side. Because obviously the skin naturally has a
- 41:41Speaker 4: little bit of a do has a little bit of glow,
- 41:43Speaker 4: has a little bit of.
- 41:44Speaker 3: A something to it.
- 41:45Speaker 4: Yeah, so when you take that away and it becomes
- 41:46Speaker 4: all mad only it's like it's a little.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Jarring, you know, Right, what about your tips for contouring?
- 41:52Speaker 1: Can you tell them obsessed with the contouring? I love
- 41:54Speaker 1: a good bone structure, No, I love, I love. Can
- 41:57Speaker 1: you teach me, like, do you prefer a powder over
- 41:59Speaker 1: a cream when it comes to contract book? Both? Okay,
- 42:03Speaker 1: walk me through.
- 42:04Speaker 4: So I always like, let's say I'm trying to find
- 42:06Speaker 4: an example. I have like this product from Patrick Tod
- 42:08Speaker 4: it's like a cream and powder.
- 42:10Speaker 3: At the same time.
- 42:11Speaker 1: Oh.
- 42:11Speaker 4: So what I like to do is like, let's say
- 42:13Speaker 4: if I take my like a brush, right it's on
- 42:14Speaker 4: my Luna Beauty brushes, and.
- 42:15Speaker 3: If I'm going from the top of my ear down to.
- 42:17Speaker 4: My mouth, like if there's like an advisable line here, Okay,
- 42:20Speaker 4: that's why I would probably place my product.
- 42:23Speaker 1: All right, So I've already fucked up because.
- 42:26Speaker 4: That's like where like that's like kind of like where
- 42:27Speaker 4: it's like kind of just there, like that's where your
- 42:29Speaker 4: bone is.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Like you feel like your bone, and then there's like
- 42:32Speaker 1: kind of like an indentation, sort of like you feel
- 42:35Speaker 1: the bottom of it. Would you place it that's where
- 42:37Speaker 1: it would go.
- 42:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll place like right there.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Mm hmm, okay, right at the bottom of it, right
- 42:42Speaker 1: at the bottom of like the cheek bone, and then.
- 42:44Speaker 3: Blending and then always blending upwards, blending up.
- 42:48Speaker 1: So I fucked up twice. Uh huh.
- 42:50Speaker 4: So you're gonna blend the contour up instead of it down.
- 42:54Speaker 1: Why is that?
- 42:55Speaker 3: Because you want to.
- 42:56Speaker 4: Give it a lift so instead of like bringing If
- 42:57Speaker 4: you bring it down too far, it kind of drags
- 42:59Speaker 4: your face a little lower. But if you kind of
- 43:02Speaker 4: lift up and you go higher, it's gonna give a
- 43:04Speaker 4: little bit more of a raised appearance. So I'll use
- 43:07Speaker 4: cream first and then I'll set it with the powder
- 43:09Speaker 4: so when you take photos, it doesn't get washed out
- 43:12Speaker 4: when it's only powder. A lot of times you take
- 43:14Speaker 4: a photo, it'ld be like washed out because it's like
- 43:16Speaker 4: just powder on the skin, But a cream underneath the
- 43:18Speaker 4: powder really reinforces the color.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Okay, So do you do the cream over your foundation
- 43:24Speaker 1: or do you build around or do the foundation?
- 43:27Speaker 3: Yeah? Either, that's like that's sort of those steps like
- 43:29Speaker 3: where it's just like personal preference.
- 43:31Speaker 4: As long as a product is down, I will so
- 43:33Speaker 4: I'll do I'll do foundation, and then I go right
- 43:35Speaker 4: into bronzing before I even do concealer and stuff like that.
- 43:38Speaker 3: So I'll go right into cream right after I do
- 43:40Speaker 3: my foundation.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Okay, And let me ask you this the contouring of
- 43:44Speaker 1: the forehead, you know, how they go bring it up?
- 43:47Speaker 1: Where where is it supposed to be placed?
- 43:50Speaker 4: So actually, like a lot of people like, it's kind
- 43:52Speaker 4: of depends on like the face shape.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Okay.
- 43:53Speaker 4: For me personally, I like to make my face just
- 43:55Speaker 4: like a little smaller, you know, I want it to
- 43:57Speaker 4: be a little more feminine, a little bit more honed in.
- 43:59Speaker 4: So I like to it all around my temples. Okay,
- 44:02Speaker 4: an imagine it's like going all around okay, because I
- 44:06Speaker 4: wanted to look small. I wanted to be honed in
- 44:08Speaker 4: here and like really bright in the center. So I
- 44:10Speaker 4: literally do forehead temples and into the cheek. But it depends,
- 44:14Speaker 4: like it's say, if you have a square forehead, you
- 44:15Speaker 4: might want to just cut off here maybe give you
- 44:17Speaker 4: like that kind of oval face. If you have more
- 44:19Speaker 4: of a heart shape, just kind of putting it up
- 44:21Speaker 4: here to kind of.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Like right right where the hairline is one like the temples.
- 44:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:27Speaker 4: So for me, because I'm a man and I have
- 44:29Speaker 4: a bigger face, I want to kind of make it
- 44:30Speaker 4: a little bit smaller, a little more oval. So that's
- 44:33Speaker 4: why I put it there.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Yes, give them that oval snatched love.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Yes, I'm trying to get that over like that like
- 44:38Speaker 3: little oval appearance. But and if you.
- 44:41Speaker 4: Want that pulled out look, which a lot of people
- 44:43Speaker 4: really love to, you do conto right here on the
- 44:45Speaker 4: sides of the brow into the hairline, and then you
- 44:49Speaker 4: leave this for concealer.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Oh okay, so you would take like the end of
- 44:53Speaker 1: your your eyebrow right yep, and then the concealer right
- 44:59Speaker 1: underh okay, yeah, give you.
- 45:01Speaker 3: Give you that sweeped back look.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Oh, give you that little bella hadid action with the eyes.
- 45:06Speaker 3: Yeah exact.
- 45:07Speaker 4: A lot of people are really really into that look
- 45:09Speaker 4: right now too, which totally makes sense.
- 45:10Speaker 3: That's gorgeous. Yeah, kind of leaving this part open for concealer.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and then we can all avoid like threading our
- 45:17Speaker 1: faces or having injections, you know, right. I feel like
- 45:20Speaker 1: you can do so much with makeup, so many people
- 45:22Speaker 1: are like, Laala got a nose job. I'm like, bitch,
- 45:25Speaker 1: I learned how to contour that motherfucker.
- 45:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:27Speaker 4: No, literally, I'm again a huge fan of conjuring my
- 45:30Speaker 4: nose or I'll put like freckles down it to make
- 45:32Speaker 4: it look smaller. Love love love making it look those
