Lucas: That's great. And today we're going to add some weather words, so you can describe what the day is like. Luna: Oh perfect. It's been really sunny here lately. How do I say 'the sun came out'? Lucas: Let's start with that. The sun is 'ፀሐይ'. To say it came out, you say 'ፀሐይ ወጣች'. Listen: ፀሐይ ወጣች. Luna: ፀሐይ ወጣች. That sounds so cheerful. Lucas: It does. You can also say 'ፀሐይ ወጥቷል' which is more like 'it is sunny' or 'the sun is out'. Repeat after me: ፀሐይ ወጥቷል. Luna: ፀሐይ ወጥቷል. Got it. And if it's rainy? I already know 'ዝናብ'. Lucas: Right. To say 'it is raining', it's 'ዝናብ እየዘነበ ነው'. Listen: ዝናብ እየዘነበ ነው. Luna: ዝናብ እየዘነበ ነው. That's a mouthful, but I can break it down. Lucas: For a simpler way, you can just say 'ዝናባማ ነው' meaning 'it is rainy'. Try it: ዝናባማ ነው. Luna: ዝናባማ ነው. That's easier. Lucas: Let's practice with a little scene. Imagine you are planning a picnic. You look outside. Luna: Okay, I say: ፀሐይ ወጥቷል! Let's have a picnic. Lucas: Perfect. But what if your friend says: 'Wait, ዝናብ እየዘነበ ነው'? Luna: Oh no. Then I'd say: 'Maybe we should stay inside.' Lucas: Exactly. So you ask: 'ምን አይነት የአየር ሁኔታ ነው?' meaning 'What is the weather like?' Luna: ምን አይነት የአየር ሁኔታ ነው? That's a good question to know. Lucas: And you can answer with our phrases. Let's do a quick drill. When I say 'sunny', you say the Amharic. Luna: Okay, hit me. Lucas: The sun came out. Luna: ፀሐይ ወጣች. Lucas: It is sunny.
