0:48
You might have seen BMW cars on the road before, but do you know
0:51
what makes this company so special?
0:53
Let's jump in and discover the amazing story and cool facts
0:57
behind BMWAG. First, let's break down the
1:11
name. BMW stands for Bearish Motor and
1:15
Werka. That's German, and it means
1:17
Bavarian motor works in English. Bavaria is a region in Germany,
1:22
which is where the company was born.
1:24
The letters AG at the N stand for a Dinga Selshaft, which is a
1:28
German word for a company that sells shares to the public.
1:32
So BMWAG is a big company from Bavaria that makes all sorts of
1:36
vehicles and is owned by many people through shares.
1:40
BMW started way back in 1916 / 100 years ago.
1:45
At first BMW didn't make cars at all, they actually made airplane
1:49
engines. That's right, BMW was originally
1:54
all about helping planes fly higher and faster.
1:57
During World War One, there was a big need for airplane engines,
2:01
and that's how BMW got its start.
2:03
After the war, there were strict rules in Germany about making
2:06
aircraft, so BMW had to switch gears.
2:10
They began to make motorcycle engines, then motorcycles, and
2:13
finally they started building cars.
2:16
Here's a fun question for you. Did BMW make motorcycles before
2:20
or after they started making cars?
2:26
The answer is BMW made motorcycles before they started
2:30
making cars. Their first motorcycle was
2:33
called the R32 and it came out in 1923.
2:37
BMW's very first car was called the BMW 3 Fifteenths.
2:42
It came out in 1928. Over the years, BMW became known
2:47
for making cars that are sporty, reliable, and fun to drive.
2:51
People all over the world love BMW cars because they look cool
2:55
and go fast, but they're also safe and comfortable.
2:59
Now let's talk about the famous BMW logo.
3:02
Maybe you've seen it before. It's a circle with blue and
3:06
white quadrants. Some people think it looks like
3:08
a spinning airplane propeller, but actually it's based on the
3:12
colors of the Bavarian flag. The blue and white checkered
3:16
pattern is a symbol of BMW's home in Bavaria, Germany.
3:20
Can you guess what the blue and white colors in the BMW logo
3:24
represent? They stand for the flag of
3:30
Bavaria, where BMW was founded. BMW makes all sorts of vehicles,
3:35
not just cars. They build motorcycles and even
3:39
some electric bikes. BMW is also famous for making
3:43
luxury cars, which means their cars are extra comfortable and
3:47
full of high tech gadgets. Some of their most popular
3:51
models are the BMW 3 Series, BMW5 Series, and BMW 7 Series.
3:57
Each series has its own style, size, and features.
4:01
For example, the BMW 3 Series is a smaller sporty car, while the
4:06
Seven Series is a big, luxurious sedan with lots of space and
4:11
advanced technology. Did you know that BMW owns a few
4:15
other car brands too? They own Mini, which makes
4:18
small, fun cars like the Mini Cooper.
4:21
BMW also owns Rolls Royce Motor Cars, which is famous for making
4:27
some of the most luxurious cars in the world.
4:30
Here's a trivia question. Besides BMW, which two other car
4:34
brands does BMWAG own? Right now, the answer is Mini
4:42
and Rolls Royce Motor cars. One really cool thing about BMW
4:46
is how much they care about the environment.
4:49
BMW works hard to make cars that are better for the planet.
4:53
They design cars that use less fuel and create less pollution.
4:57
BMW even makes electric cars like the BMW I3 and the BMW I8.
5:03
Electric cars use batteries instead of gasoline so they
5:06
don't produce exhaust fumes. That means cleaner air and a
5:11
healthier world. Yes or no?
5:13
Question Time. Do you think BMW makes cars that
5:16
can run on electricity? Yes, BMW makes several different
5:24
electric cars. Safety is also very important to
5:28
BMW. Their cars are full of safety
5:31
features like airbags, anti lock brakes, and special systems that
5:35
help prevent accidents. Some BMWs even have smart
5:38
cameras and sensors that warn drivers if there's danger ahead
5:42
or if the car is getting too close to something.
5:45
This helps keep drivers and passengers safe.
5:48
BMW isn't just about making cars and motorcycles.
5:52
They also love racing. BMW has a long history in
5:57
motorsport, which means they compete in car races all over
6:00
the world. Racing helps BMW test out new
6:04
ideas and improve their cars. For example, they use what they
6:08
learn on the racetrack to make everyday BMW cars faster, safer,
6:13
and more fun to drive. Did you know that BMW has its
6:17
own museum? The BMW museum is in Munich,
6:21
Germany. It's a really cool place where
6:23
you can see old BMW cars, motorcycles, engines, and even
6:27
futuristic concept vehicles. Visitors can learn all about the

company's history and see how cars are designed and built.

7:39
your instructions? Yes, some BMWs have voice

7:48
how BMW builds its cars. The company has factories in
7:52
many countries, not just Germany.
7:55
BMW builds cars in the United States, China, South Africa, and
7:59
more. This means people all over the
8:02
world can get BMW cars that are built close to home.
8:05
BMW also tries to use factories that don't waste energy and
8:09
recycle as much as possible. BMW believes in being creative
8:14
and trying new things. Every year they show off concept
8:18
cars. These are special cars that
8:20
aren't for sale yet, but they show what the future of driving
