- 0:15Speaker 2: good this morning? 866-927-4361 is the number so you can

- 0:27Speaker 2: call home. why you are feeling so great today. So
- 0:31Speaker 2: give us a call. Let us know. Your joy is contagious, Chili.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Why are you feeling good? Did you have a good weekend?
- 0:36Speaker 3: I did. I got to go to Cox Farm, as
- 0:39Speaker 3: I mentioned on Friday. even more special than that actually
- 0:42Speaker 3: was celebrating one of my sister cousin's birthdays and she
- 0:44Speaker 3: chose to go to take a stained glass class at
- 0:49Speaker 3: a place and glass yeah we created a little stained
- 0:53Speaker 3: glass i forgot to bring it in um we went
- 0:55Speaker 3: on friday evening and it was so much fun it's
- 0:58Speaker 3: always fun to celebrate with loved ones like as you're
- 1:02Speaker 3: doing something like even those sip and paint places are
- 1:05Speaker 3: fun but this was just a very unique experience and
- 1:09Speaker 3: yeah i mean i If I ever get fired from here,
- 1:12Speaker 3: I should say when I get fired from here, I
- 1:15Speaker 3: may have to go into the stained glass business. It
- 1:18Speaker 3: was so much fun.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Well, if you decide you want to go do it
- 1:21Speaker 2: again and then step it up, learn a little bit
- 1:23Speaker 2: of glassblowing or how to do things with fused glass, too,
- 1:26Speaker 2: in addition to, and maybe even get really adventurous and
- 1:30Speaker 2: try some silversmithing, Glen Echo. They've got classes all the time,
- 1:36Speaker 2: including through the rest of the fall and the winter.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Um, and I, it's something that's always been in the
- 1:42Speaker 2: back of my mind and on a bucket list to do,
- 1:44Speaker 2: and I just haven't done it yet. And I'm running
- 1:46Speaker 2: out of excuses because you know what? All we have
- 1:49Speaker 2: is time. That's very, very cool.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I'm, uh, I'm feeling really good because I got to
- 1:54Speaker 2: be a part of a very inspirational day yesterday over
- 1:57Speaker 2: at Rio. I talked about it a little bit on Friday,
- 1:59Speaker 2: the triumph trek with other people who have been patients
- 2:02Speaker 2: and who have overcome, um, whatever life threw their way
- 2:06Speaker 2: in the form of a curveball. It's always good to like,
- 2:08Speaker 2: you know, to be around people who have been through
- 2:12Speaker 2: probably a lot worse than you, to remind you of
- 2:14Speaker 2: how good you have it in life, you know, and
- 2:17Speaker 2: to see that, you know what, if they can overcome,
- 2:19Speaker 2: so can you. It's better than like a morning mindset
- 2:23Speaker 2: because you're like running around with these people, so to speak.
- 2:27Speaker 2: And that was Sunday. Why are you feeling good? You
- 2:30Speaker 2: know where we are. Let us know. In the meantime,
- 2:32Speaker 2: hang out for the news. What's going on this morning?
- 2:33Speaker 2: Top stories at the top of the hour. Chili, what
- 2:35Speaker 2: you got?
- 2:36Speaker 3: Well, the Washington Commanders didn't just lose against the Dallas
- 2:40Speaker 3: Cowboys yesterday. We also lost our quarterback, Jaden Daniels. Tell
- 2:46Speaker 3: you more about his injury coming up in just a few.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Top stories, top of the hour. The president says that
- 2:56Speaker 3: his proposed 250-foot arch near the Lincoln Memorial is also
- 3:00Speaker 3: going to be serving as a military complex, housing drones, snipers,
- 3:05Speaker 3: and ammunition. The project, though, still needs approval. A woman
- 3:10Speaker 3: has died after she was hit while trying to cross
- 3:12Speaker 3: Route 50 in a motorized wheelchair in Fairfax County. Police
- 3:16Speaker 3: say it happened around 9 o'clock Friday night near Plaza
- 3:18Speaker 3: Lane in Greenbrier. The driver stayed at the scene. A
- 3:22Speaker 3: 27-year-old man has died after being hit by a car
- 3:24Speaker 3: shortly before 2 o'clock yesterday morning in Poolsville. Montgomery County
- 3:29Speaker 3: Police say that the driver fled the scene and was
- 3:32Speaker 3: last seen heading west on Fisher Avenue. A man is
- 3:36Speaker 3: in custody after he drove his car onto the sidewalk
- 3:39Speaker 3: near the White House Saturday afternoon. He was taken to
- 3:42Speaker 3: a hospital for mental health evaluation. No dangerous materials were
- 3:46Speaker 3: found in the car. Washington Commanders quarterback Jaden Daniels was
- 3:50Speaker 3: carted off the field with a left elbow injury yesterday
- 3:54Speaker 3: against the Cowboys right before halftime. He had suffered a
- 3:58Speaker 3: similar elbow injury last season, and the Commanders eventually fell
- 4:02Speaker 3: to the Cowboys 37-20. And Presley Gerber, the son of
- 4:07Speaker 3: Cindy Crawford and Randy Gerber, died yesterday at a rehab facility.
- 4:11Speaker 3: He was only 27. A cause of death has not
- 4:14Speaker 3: been announced. In recent years, Presley had spoken publicly about
- 4:19Speaker 3: struggles with addiction and mental health. Forecast today, a chance
- 4:23Speaker 3: of showers this afternoon. Cloudy skies. Highs around 72. Right now,
- 4:27Speaker 3: 68 in Clarksburg.
- 4:29Speaker 2: You've got the coffee.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Check.
- 4:31Speaker 2: You're in Reston. You're about to make your way into
- 4:34Speaker 2: work this morning. You've got the news.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Check.
- 4:36Speaker 2: But something's missing. You're not feeling up to speed. Well,
- 4:40Speaker 2: we can help. Now that you've got top stories at
- 4:42Speaker 2: the top of the hour, stay right there. Your morning mindset,
- 4:44Speaker 2: a quote that we hope might be that extra shot
- 4:47Speaker 2: of mental espresso to get you through today and into
- 4:50Speaker 2: a brand new week.
- 4:51Speaker 4: On the way.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Good morning in Poolsville. You asked me to remind you
- 4:56Speaker 2: to make sure you don't forget to make the kids' lunches.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Done.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Check. Speaking of the kids, 97.1 Wash FM, Toby and
- 5:04Speaker 2: Chili in the morning. It's time for your morning mindset
- 5:07Speaker 2: that's from somebody this morning that's not that far removed
- 5:10Speaker 2: from being a kid. Now, in case you're disjoining us,
- 5:12Speaker 2: your morning mindset is?
- 5:14Speaker 3: Usually when we find a quote to inspire, perhaps motivate
- 5:17Speaker 3: you as you take on the new day, and in
- 5:19Speaker 3: this case, start of a new week.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Malala Yousafzai. the education activist, Nobel laureate, says that one child,
- 5:28Speaker 2: one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.
- 5:34Speaker 2: One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change
- 5:39Speaker 2: the world. Okay, big lofty words, right? A big lofty
- 5:43Speaker 2: sentence feels good to hear, but what does it mean
- 5:47Speaker 2: and why does it matter? Well, big change starts ridiculously small.
- 5:52Speaker 2: One conversation at a time with one person at a time,
- 5:55Speaker 2: making one decision at a time. You don't need to
- 5:58Speaker 2: estimate today or this week what your tiny contribution to
- 6:03Speaker 2: that discourse can start. All right? Big change starts very small.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Don't underestimate your part in it.
- 6:12Speaker 1: All, all right?
- 6:13Speaker 2: One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can
- 6:16Speaker 2: change the world. Malala, thank you. For the inspiration that
- 6:20Speaker 2: is your morning mindset, need it?
- 6:22Speaker 3: Let us know.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Toby and Chili page, washfm.com, and you'll find it floating
- 6:26Speaker 2: around in Insta, also on Facebook, because you click one
- 6:30Speaker 2: button and it goes to all of these places now. Technology,
- 6:33Speaker 2: it's a thing. Stay right there because in minutes with
- 6:36Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 6:37Speaker 3: If you get the Sunday blues, there's apparently a very
- 6:40Speaker 3: specific time on Sundays that it happens. And we're going
- 6:43Speaker 3: to discuss that coming up.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Oh, it's Monday, but it's only Monday for a day.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Was it halftime during the Commanders and Cowboys game yesterday
- 6:57Speaker 2: when you started to feel the Sunday blues set in?
- 7:01Speaker 2: When was it? Maybe it was earlier. Maybe it was
- 7:03Speaker 2: when you woke up. Maybe it's why you didn't want
- 7:04Speaker 2: to get out of bed. Well, it looks like there
- 7:06Speaker 2: is a specific time to blame. Chili, that time would be?
- 7:11Speaker 3: 7 p.m. A new study finds that that is when
- 7:14Speaker 3: we all feel the peak anxiety, stress, fatigue, and even
- 7:19Speaker 3: an increased heart rate on a Sunday. And researchers say
- 7:22Speaker 3: that 80% of people experience that slump on Sundays. Often
- 7:28Speaker 3: regretting how they spent the weekend or worrying about the
- 7:30Speaker 3: week ahead.
- 7:31Speaker 2: So it's no longer the Sunday scaries. It's the Sunday
- 7:34Speaker 2: slump or slump day.
- 7:36Speaker 5: Blues.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Yeah, Sunday blues. For me, it's much earlier than 7 p.m.
- 7:40Speaker 3: By lunchtime on every Sunday, by lunchtime, it starts at
- 7:44Speaker 3: 4 p.m. dread feeling starts to come over me. It
- 7:47Speaker 3: really does. Because let's face it, by 7 p.m., it's
- 7:50Speaker 3: already too late.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Days over. Yeah, days over.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I don't even know if you get to Sunday blues.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Maybe some people don't.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I don't really. Unless, of course, I'm stressing something about Monday.
- 8:01Speaker 3: So it's a case by case?
- 8:02Speaker 2: It really is a Sunday by Sunday thing. I honestly
- 8:06Speaker 2: get stressed about my fantasy team and making sure my
- 8:09Speaker 2: football picks are good to go on a Sunday in
- 8:12Speaker 2: the morning. I get more stressed about that than I
- 8:14Speaker 2: do about the idea of having to get up and
- 8:16Speaker 2: get back into a work routine on Monday.
- 8:19Speaker 3: 97.1% of my blues is related to having to get
- 8:24Speaker 3: up so dang early for this job. So it's not
- 8:27Speaker 3: the job itself. It's the schedule of the job where
- 8:30Speaker 3: the blues really punch me in the gut.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Well, you know, most sane people, doctors and therapists would
- 8:35Speaker 2: tell us that we are out of our minds for
- 8:38Speaker 2: choosing to do what we do. But there are others
- 8:41Speaker 2: who cash in on the third shift, which is essentially
- 8:44Speaker 2: what we do. If you think about it, it just
- 8:46Speaker 2: runs a little bit longer into the morning. A lot
- 8:48Speaker 2: of people who cash in and do very well in
- 8:50Speaker 2: life that way with that nocturnal schedule. So, you know.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Who are we to judge, I guess? But if you're
- 8:56Speaker 2: feeling the blues around 7 p.m. on a Sunday night,
- 8:59Speaker 2: thinking about Monday, you're not alone. And you can read
- 9:02Speaker 2: more about this scientific breakthrough on the Toby and Chili page, washfm.com.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Need some news? We got you covered right around 610
- 9:10Speaker 2: with top stories at the top of the hour. What's
- 9:13Speaker 2: going on?
- 9:14Speaker 3: Sherwin-Williams just named their color of the year. But the
- 9:18Speaker 3: online reaction has been pretty harsh. I've got all the
- 9:21Speaker 3: details coming up in just a few.
- 9:23Speaker 2: It's history. Another edition of our iHeartRadio Music Festival presented
- 9:29Speaker 2: by Capital One in the books. Did you miss it
- 9:32Speaker 2: over the weekend? Oh, you didn't, because you can stream
- 9:35Speaker 2: it on demand right now at Disney Plus in Hulu.
- 9:39Speaker 2: It's 97.1 WASH-FM with Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 9:41Speaker 3: You can also see some exclusive backstage clips you can't
- 9:45Speaker 3: see anywhere else. Just tap that highlights tab as you listen.
- 9:49Speaker 6: To us on the iHeart. 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington.
- 9:54Speaker 1: An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories, top of
- 9:58Speaker 1: the hour.
- 9:58Speaker 3: The president says that the... planned triumphal arch will double
- 10:03Speaker 3: as a military complex. We've got the latest on that
- 10:06Speaker 3: story and others on the way. With Toby and Chili
- 10:09Speaker 3: in the morning on 97.1 WASH-FM.
- 10:15Speaker 7: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 10:17Speaker 3: The president says his planned triumphal arch will double as
- 10:21Speaker 3: a military complex built at his request with drone and
- 10:25Speaker 3: sniper capability. Meanwhile, Northern Virginia Democratic Congressman Don Beyer called
- 10:30Speaker 3: the idea, quote, stupid, dangerous and unworkable. The president is
- 10:36Speaker 3: planning to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron today in
- 10:40Speaker 3: New York City. Both men will be in town for
- 10:42Speaker 3: the U.N. General Assembly. A man has died after being
- 10:46Speaker 3: found unresponsive outside yesterday morning in Upper Marlborough. Prince George's
- 10:51Speaker 3: County police believe that he died by suicide and say
- 10:55Speaker 3: there is no evidence of foul play. A Chantilly woman
- 10:59Speaker 3: has died after she was hit by a car while
- 11:01Speaker 3: crossing Route 50 in Fairfax County Friday night. Police say
- 11:05Speaker 3: 53-year-old Teresa Flynn was using a motorized wheelchair and was
- 11:09Speaker 3: not in a crosswalk. And police say the driver stayed
- 11:12Speaker 3: on the scene. Washington Commanders quarterback Jaden Daniels dislocated his
- 11:17Speaker 3: left elbow for the second time in less than a
- 11:20Speaker 3: year right before halftime against the Dallas Cowboys yesterday. He's
- 11:24Speaker 3: going to undergo more testing to determine whether surgery is needed. Meanwhile,
- 11:29Speaker 3: the Commanders fell to the Cowboys 37-20. Waterside Drive in
- 11:34Speaker 3: northwest D.C. is going to be closed today for two
- 11:36Speaker 3: months for rehab work. The southern stretch linking Rock Creek
- 11:41Speaker 3: Parkway to Massachusetts Avenue is will shut through November 13th.
- 11:46Speaker 3: And Sherwin-Williams has named Celery its 2027 color of the year.
- 11:51Speaker 3: It's a muted yellow-green meant to evoke wellness and calm,
- 11:56Speaker 3: but online reactions have been pretty harsh with some comparing
- 11:59Speaker 3: it to hospital green. Forecast today, cloudy with a chance
- 12:03Speaker 3: of showers this afternoon. Highs around 72. Right now, 68
- 12:07Speaker 3: in Lusby.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Please make a note of the following information. When you
- 12:10Speaker 2: need the news that really counts in your world, you
- 12:13Speaker 2: need 97.1 Washa FM. Top stories at the top of
- 12:17Speaker 2: the hour. I am Toby Knapp over there. That's Chilean Mar.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Thanks for letting us be a part of your morning.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Can we talk about that one time, that one time
- 12:25Speaker 2: something happened that you were surprised? shocked that you were
- 12:30Speaker 2: able to actually walk away from. What happened? We're going
- 12:35Speaker 2: to talk about it coming up in a few minutes.
- 12:37Speaker 2: And if you have a story that comes to mind,
- 12:39Speaker 2: I would love to hear it at 866-927-4361. Sylvia and
- 12:41Speaker 2: Chili on a Monday morning at 97.1 Wash FM, Washington's
- 12:43Speaker 2: variety of the 80s, 90s. And today, did you hear
- 12:45Speaker 2: this story out of Philadelphia? Philadelphia, about something that happened
- 12:58Speaker 2: to a teen after school one day.
- 13:00Speaker 3: So the viral video that went around the internet last
- 13:03Speaker 3: week shows her crossing the street and a Mack truck
- 13:06Speaker 3: doesn't slow down. It actually speeds up. I guess it
- 13:09Speaker 3: didn't see her because she was so much shorter or whatever.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Ran her over, but ran her over in a way
- 13:14Speaker 3: that she was somehow landed right in between the wheels, Toby.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Almost like a movie, right?
- 13:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:21Speaker 3: Some perfectly in the center of the truck so that
- 13:25Speaker 3: she pops out or she's helped out from underneath and
- 13:28Speaker 3: walks away. Some people even claimed it could have been
- 13:31Speaker 3: AI because it was that ridiculously miraculous looking. But it
- 13:35Speaker 3: was real. Yeah, it happened in Philly.
- 13:37Speaker 2: A witness goes, I didn't see any blood or any injuries.
- 13:40Speaker 2: She said she was OK.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I mean.
- 13:43Speaker 3: I mean, psychologically, she's probably not OK. But I don't know. Physically,
- 13:47Speaker 3: she was OK.
- 13:48Speaker 2: And they say there's no God or guardian angels looking
- 13:52Speaker 2: out for you.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Has anything like that ever happened with you?
- 13:54Speaker 7: Not with me.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Thank God I'm knocking on wood. I've never had a
- 13:57Speaker 3: close call like that where I was able to walk
- 13:58Speaker 3: away from it.
- 13:59Speaker 2: This is not the first time in my life I've
- 14:01Speaker 2: worked this schedule. I used to produce a morning show. Wilkes-Barre, Scranton.
- 14:06Speaker 2: That was like 45 minutes away from home. So I
- 14:09Speaker 2: had to do the morning show. Then I also had
- 14:11Speaker 2: another job during the day at the station that I
- 14:14Speaker 2: had to do. And then that evening I had to
- 14:16Speaker 2: go to a club appearance, which is where you go
- 14:19Speaker 2: hang out at a club for a couple of hours. Well, anyway,
- 14:21Speaker 2: it was a very, very long day, and driving home,
- 14:24Speaker 2: I started nodding off. I nodded off a bit too much,
- 14:28Speaker 2: and the vehicle pulled to the right, hit a concrete
- 14:31Speaker 2: retaining wall, and I flipped into a ravine.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Oh, Lord.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Needless to say, the car was totaled. I was not totaled.
- 14:39Speaker 3: So it's one of those things where you flip your
- 14:41Speaker 3: car over it rolls over a bunch of times you
- 14:45Speaker 3: somehow get out of the banged up vehicle and you
- 14:49Speaker 3: walk away yeah there was no like hospitalization that's yeah
- 14:54Speaker 3: that is walking away from something that you totally did
- 14:57Speaker 3: not expect to be walking away from.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Oh no thinking about it in retrospect i don't know
- 15:01Speaker 2: how i survived that one Is.
- 15:03Speaker 3: There an incident where you were surprised you were able
- 15:07Speaker 3: to walk away from?
- 15:08Speaker 2: Tell us all about it. 866-927-4361. Let's talk. It's something
- 15:15Speaker 2: that went down that you were actually surprised you walked
- 15:17Speaker 2: away from. We're Toby and Chili in the morning. It's
- 15:20Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM. Chili, tell us why we're talking about
- 15:23Speaker 2: this again one more time for those who might not
- 15:24Speaker 2: have been here a few minutes ago.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Viral video from Philadelphia shows a teen crossing the street
- 15:30Speaker 3: and getting run over by a Mack truck, but not
- 15:32Speaker 3: getting hit by any of the wheels like the way
- 15:35Speaker 3: she landed right in the center. She was able to
- 15:37Speaker 3: walk away.
- 15:38Speaker 7: It was a miracle.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Guardian angels, I tell you, that's what they were. Guardian angels.
- 15:44Speaker 2: But sometimes it might not be on the level of
- 15:46Speaker 2: an accident. Sometimes it can be just something that goes
- 15:49Speaker 2: down in life that causes you to make a decision.
- 15:51Speaker 2: It's time for you to bounce on somebody or some things. Like,
- 15:56Speaker 2: for instance, in Germantown, Leslie, you had this situation go on.
- 16:01Speaker 4: One of my best friends of many years flipped out
- 16:03Speaker 4: on me and we got into a huge fight.
- 16:05Speaker 2: What was it about?
- 16:06Speaker 4: She tried to get my boyfriend to cheat on me
- 16:09Speaker 4: with her. So her friendship completely ended and I was heartbroken.
- 16:13Speaker 4: But honestly, somehow I really just moved on quickly from
- 16:17Speaker 4: it and I didn't let it bother me further.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Good for you. That whole not letting something bother you
- 16:23Speaker 2: and not letting anything live rent-free in your head, that's
- 16:26Speaker 2: more important than I think we all realize. Good stuff, Leslie.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I'm sorry it had to come to that, but you
- 16:31Speaker 2: know what? You put her in her place, not in
- 16:34Speaker 2: your head space.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Ha ha!
- 16:36Speaker 2: Now, getting back to the whole accident motif and Brambleton, Jack,
- 16:41Speaker 2: there was an accident you walked away from. A bad
- 16:44Speaker 2: car accident that I was in about five years ago.
- 16:47Speaker 3: How did you survive that?
- 16:49Speaker 2: I was shaken up. I'm pretty sure I would be
- 16:51Speaker 2: dealing with some serious injuries, but somehow I walked away
- 16:54Speaker 2: with just a few bumps and bruises. Sounds like you
- 16:57Speaker 2: were surprised you walked away from it. I mean, I
- 17:00Speaker 2: would have been had I been in the same situation
- 17:02Speaker 2: you were, sir.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Well, you were. You shared it earlier.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, that's right. Well, Jack, we're glad you're here.

- 22:47Speaker 2: around 7 10 and they could be yours don't go
- 22:51Speaker 2: nowhere because next we've got a story that we think
- 22:54Speaker 2: might just make your monday.
- 22:56Speaker 3: You know, they may see them on TV, but last
- 22:58Speaker 3: week some D.C. kids got to play alongside some Washington
- 23:02Speaker 3: Commanders rookies, and it was much more than about football.
- 23:07Speaker 2: It is Monday morning at 97.1 Wash FM. You need
- 23:11Speaker 2: something that'll make your day? All right, well, check out
- 23:14Speaker 2: this little Make Your Monday story we found. And imagine
- 23:18Speaker 2: while you listen that you're walking into school just ahead
- 23:21Speaker 2: of going to class. And a bunch of Washington Commanders,
- 23:25Speaker 2: the rookies, they're there to say, hey, how are you? Well,
- 23:28Speaker 2: that's exactly what happened Tuesday, September 15th at KIPP's D.C.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Smilow Campus in Ward 7.
- 23:35Speaker 3: That's where the Commanders launched their first ever Junior Academy.
- 23:38Speaker 3: 50 students are going to take part in the after-school
- 23:41Speaker 3: program three days a week throughout the school year. And
- 23:44Speaker 3: it's really more than just football. These kids get academic support,
- 23:48Speaker 3: athletic programming, mentorship, and meals and snacks.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Last week at the launch, the Commander's rookies played flag
- 23:55Speaker 2: football with the students on this newly renovated field. Then
- 24:00Speaker 2: they went inside to paint with the 4th and 5th graders,
- 24:02Speaker 2: the Commander's Foundation. They made a huge investment, six figures,
- 24:06Speaker 2: to refurb that field. And the team says that this
- 24:09Speaker 2: Ward 7 program... It's a pilot program that could eventually
- 24:14Speaker 2: jump to more schools, particularly in wards seven and eight.
- 24:18Speaker 3: For the kids, though, the coolest part may have been
- 24:20Speaker 3: spending time with the players they normally only see on TV.
- 24:25Speaker 3: This program is really about giving D.C. kids a place
- 24:28Speaker 3: to learn, to play, to find mentors and maybe start
- 24:31Speaker 3: believing in their own dreams. They're a little bit closer
- 24:34Speaker 3: than they actually thought.
- 24:36Speaker 2: And that's why we think that the commanders rookies should
- 24:41Speaker 2: know that they're caring about these kids playing some flag
- 24:45Speaker 2: football and painting. That's some great stuff. And that makes
- 24:49Speaker 2: everyone's Monday because it makes DC better. So thank you commanders.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Thank you to the rookies and thank you to the
- 24:57Speaker 2: KIPP DC school for everything that you guys are doing
- 25:00Speaker 2: to make our kids some of the smartest anywhere in
- 25:03Speaker 2: the country. It's 97.1 Wash FM. If that made your
- 25:07Speaker 2: Monday and you want to share it with somebody, you'll
- 25:08Speaker 2: find the story on the Toby and Chili page at washfm.com.
- 25:12Speaker 2: And that's where you can also tell us what made
- 25:14Speaker 2: your day so that maybe we can make somebody's Monday
- 25:17Speaker 2: with that story this time next week. In just a
- 25:19Speaker 2: few minutes, we got the news, Chili, right around 810.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Top stories at the top of the hour. What's going on?
- 25:25Speaker 3: A recent survey reveals that a lot of adults... did
- 25:29Speaker 3: not pay attention in civics class.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Washington's variety from the 80s 90s today at 97.1 wash
- 25:35Speaker 2: fm tell me chilly in the morning are you ready

- 25:44Speaker 3: A weekly early learning program perfect for toddlers and preschoolers
- 25:49Speaker 3: where these kids can join the band through movement rhythm
- 25:52Speaker 3: and sound great activities.
- 25:54Speaker 2: And by the way, if your kid is a dreamer,
- 25:57Speaker 2: you'll want to check this out in D.C., the National
- 26:00Speaker 2: Children's Museum. Sounds like it's going to be pretty awesome.
- 26:05Speaker 2: 97.1 WASH-FM, Michael Jackson.
- 26:08Speaker 6: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington.
- 26:11Speaker 1: An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories, top of
- 26:15Speaker 1: the hour.
- 26:15Speaker 3: The president says his planned triumphal arch in D.C. will
- 26:20Speaker 3: double as a military complex. We've got the latest on
- 26:23Speaker 3: that story and others on the way. With Toby and
- 26:26Speaker 3: Chili in the morning on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 26:32Speaker 7: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 26:34Speaker 3: The president says his planned triumphal arch will double as
- 26:38Speaker 3: a military complex built at his request with drone and
- 26:42Speaker 3: sniper capability. Meanwhile, Northern Virginia Democratic Congressman Don Beyer called
- 26:47Speaker 3: the idea, quote, stupid, dangerous and unworkable. The president is
- 26:53Speaker 3: planning to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron in New
- 26:57Speaker 3: York City today, where both men will be in town
- 27:00Speaker 3: for the U.N. General Assembly. A Chantilly woman died after
- 27:04Speaker 3: being hit by a car while she was crossing Route
- 27:06Speaker 3: 50 in Fairfax County Friday night. Police say 53-year-old Teresa
- 27:10Speaker 3: Flynn was using a motorized wheelchair and was not in
- 27:13Speaker 3: a crosswalk. They say the driver stayed on the scene.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Washington Commanders quarterback Jaden Daniels dislocated his left elbow for
- 27:21Speaker 3: the second time in less than a year, right before
- 27:24Speaker 3: halftime against the game against the Dallas Cowboys yesterday. He's
- 27:28Speaker 3: going to undergo more testing to determine whether surgery is needed. Meanwhile,
- 27:33Speaker 3: the Commanders fell to the Cowboys 37 to 20. The
- 27:37Speaker 3: son of supermodel Cindy Crawford has died at the age
- 27:41Speaker 3: of 27. Presley Gerber died yesterday at a rehab facility.
- 27:46Speaker 3: Cause of death has not been announced, but in recent years,
- 27:49Speaker 3: Presley had spoken publicly about struggles with addiction and mental health.
- 27:54Speaker 3: And a new survey finds that 35% of Americans still
- 27:58Speaker 3: cannot name all three branches of government. First Amendment knowledge
- 28:03Speaker 3: is even worse. Only 73% could name free speech, and
- 28:06Speaker 3: only 9% knew all five protections. Forecast for today, we've
- 28:14Speaker 3: got a chance of showers this afternoon with highs around 72.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Right now, 68 in Dumfries.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Don't forget when you need the news that is really important,

- 28:27Speaker 2: of the hour. 97.1 Wash FM. Now that you've got
- 28:30Speaker 2: that news, stay there because coming up in just a bit.
- 28:34Speaker 2: We're going to talk about Japan, specifically over 100,000 people
- 28:39Speaker 2: in Japan who are living considerably longer. Find out how
- 28:44Speaker 2: long they're living, what they're called, and we'll discuss this
- 28:47Speaker 2: whole phenomenon because we all want to live forever, right?
- 28:51Speaker 2: Do we? Stay there. It's not how you feel, it's
- 28:54Speaker 2: how you look, and you look marvelous. What was that
- 28:58Speaker 2: from Saturday Night Live back in the day? Toby and
- 29:00Speaker 2: Sheely in the morning, it's 97.1 Wash FM, but you
- 29:04Speaker 2: hear that people are living longer these days, and it
- 29:08Speaker 2: makes you go, hmm, what is their secret in Japan?
- 29:12Speaker 2: That they have more than 100,000 centenarians for the first
- 29:15Speaker 2: time ever.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Yeah, there are more than 100,000 people over the age
- 29:22Speaker 3: of 100 or even older than that. That's the first
- 29:25Speaker 3: time in the country that it's reached six figures. And
- 29:28Speaker 3: women make up nearly 90% of the centenarians. Thank you
- 29:34Speaker 3: very much.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Centenarians. I knew I'd probably screw that word up. What
- 29:38Speaker 2: do you think it is that? allowing these people to
- 29:41Speaker 2: live longer? And how can we be just like them, Chili?
- 29:44Speaker 3: Well, specific to Japan, I really think a lot of
- 29:46Speaker 3: it has to do with their diet.
- 29:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:48Speaker 3: Fish, a lot of activity over there. Uh-huh. Globally, life
- 29:52Speaker 3: expectancy 50 years ago was 59 years, and now it's
- 29:57Speaker 3: 73 years.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Wow.
- 29:58Speaker 3: And that's because of.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Technology, good doctors, healthcare, and medicine in an endless food
- 30:05Speaker 2: supply chain. Well, maybe not endless, because we do have
- 30:08Speaker 2: a problem with food insecurity in some places of this country,
- 30:11Speaker 2: including right here in the DMV in some spots. It's
- 30:14Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM, Toby and Chili in the morning, but...
- 30:18Speaker 2: Why do you think people are living longer and longer
- 30:23Speaker 2: these days? 866-927-4361 is the number. John and Stafford, what
- 30:30Speaker 2: do you think? Well, we are learning to avoid things
- 30:33Speaker 2: that can harm us.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Like what?
- 30:35Speaker 4: Eating unhealthy foods and unsafe vehicles. I think we are
- 30:39Speaker 4: consciously making efforts to be healthier and just stay away
- 30:42Speaker 4: from dangerous situations as a species.
- 30:45Speaker 5: Facts.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Preach on. Preach on. And thank you for the call
- 30:48Speaker 2: this morning. Lindsay, good morning in Fairfax. why are people
- 30:54Speaker 2: living longer it's.
- 30:55Speaker 5: Very interesting but there are just so many reasons give
- 30:58Speaker 5: me one big one obviously medicine and health care have
- 31:01Speaker 5: improved drastically over the decades.
- 31:04Speaker 3: When you say improved.
- 31:05Speaker 5: How things that would have taken people out instantly years
- 31:08Speaker 5: ago are now easily treatable and we have more elderly
- 31:12Speaker 5: people in good shape than ever before.
- 31:14Speaker 2: You look good for your age it's patronizing it's insulting
- 31:18Speaker 2: and be prepared if you use that phrase to be.
- 31:22Speaker 3: Dissed in a major way let's all head.
