First Blue Ribbon in Husband Calling | Des Moines News
LeAnn Hewitt, a longtime competitor who moved to Texas five years ago, finally claimed her first blue ribbon at the Iowa State Fair — by winning the husband calling contest. Her winning 30-second yell, “Henry! Dinner!” — a “back door holler” for her husband Rex (who she says sounds better as Henry) — stunned the crowd and beat out 14 others. She nearly fainted from exertion but called it worth every breath. The win fulfills a lifelong dream, and the event also honored late fairgoer Bonnie Eilert with a heartfelt group tribute.
