- 0:02Speaker 3: This has been one of my favorite interviews.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Normally it's me crying and.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Wari was in here being tragic. You got my co-host
- 0:08Speaker 1: in here crying.
- 0:08Speaker 4: Come on, man.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I'm talking about my grandma and my daughters and my wife.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Tears going to fall. I feel like your music reaches
- 0:16Speaker 1: people in the church, but also reaches people who don't
- 0:19Speaker 1: really go to church as much that want to go
- 0:21Speaker 1: to church and is trying to live and work on themselves.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Is that intentional?
- 0:29Speaker 5: Well, it's intentionally me. Okay. It's intentionally me, you know?
- 0:34Speaker 5: I mean, we can't determine always what a song is
- 0:38Speaker 5: going to do.
- 0:39Speaker 6: Wow.
- 0:40Speaker 4: So I know when my grandma passed away, I... It's okay.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Come on, big energy.
- 0:45Speaker 5: This is good, man. This is so good. This is
- 0:49Speaker 5: so good, man. Thank you, God, for this. No, man,
- 0:51Speaker 5: I think that... If you guys would allow me to, man,
- 0:55Speaker 5: because y'all have really been a blessing. And I think
- 0:57Speaker 5: the impact that y'all have on culture, your transparency, which
- 1:02Speaker 5: is so strong and powerful. Just know that that was
- 1:05Speaker 5: very masculine of you. It was very strong of you
- 1:10Speaker 5: because black men have forgotten how to shed tears. Facts. Facts.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:17Speaker 2: And to do it amongst, like, to even be in.
- 1:19Speaker 5: The presence of. There's no capping that at all. Black
- 1:21Speaker 5: men have forgotten. We have forgotten how to shed teeth
- 1:23Speaker 5: because we can't let you see that. There's so many,
- 1:26Speaker 5: it's so many gospel artists that I really want people
- 1:29Speaker 5: to be put on about because, yo, it's hot on
- 1:34Speaker 5: the block. It's hot on the block. And whatever you need,
- 1:36Speaker 5: whatsoever you need, it's out there. Ain't nobody doing that.
- 1:41Speaker 5: But imagine if every person on this planet, if you
- 1:44Speaker 5: saw somebody that irked you or somebody you disagree with,
- 1:47Speaker 5: Every day for just five minutes, you just took a
- 1:50Speaker 5: moment just to pray for them. Right. Bro, can you
- 1:52Speaker 5: imagine how we would see the power of God move
- 1:55Speaker 5: in people's lives? Because we are now being like him
- 1:58Speaker 5: on the earth. We're being like him. You want to
- 2:00Speaker 5: be like Christ? Pray for somebody. What's up, beautiful people?

- 2:35Speaker 7: it's the baller alert.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Broadcasted live from the Nagle Law Firm Studios. Welcome to
- 2:43Speaker 1: the Baller Show. My name is Ferrari Simmons.
- 2:45Speaker 3: My name is, you know, BT. B.
- 2:46Speaker 5: Caleb. Kirk Franklin in the building.
- 2:51Speaker 6: Now, you said you don't consider yourself the goat.
- 2:53Speaker 3: You're the.
- 2:54Speaker 5: I'm the alpaca.
- 2:55Speaker 3: The alpaca.
- 2:56Speaker 4: I like that.
- 2:56Speaker 5: Have you ever seen an alpaca? Have you, like, seen
- 2:59Speaker 5: the animal, the alpaca?
- 3:00Speaker 1: I have never seen the animal, but I've seen... No,
- 3:02Speaker 1: I've never seen it in real life. That's a real animal?
- 3:04Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:05Speaker 5: It looks like an awkward goat.
- 3:11Speaker 7: Facts.
- 3:11Speaker 1: It looks like an awkward goat.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Here it is right here.
- 3:15Speaker 5: Yeah, look at it. It looks very comfortable.
- 3:17Speaker 6: Right?
- 3:18Speaker 3: It looks very comfortable. Very demure.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Like a giraffe goat.
- 3:22Speaker 3: A giraffe and a goat.
- 3:23Speaker 2: It's noticeable.
- 3:25Speaker 5: It's a jagote.
- 3:26Speaker 3: It's a jagote.
- 3:27Speaker 1: A jagote.
- 3:28Speaker 5: A giraffe goat. It's a jagote. Jagote. Yeah. And basically,
- 3:32Speaker 5: you know, for me, well, first of all, I do
- 3:33Speaker 5: it trying to be funny. But, you know, I think that,
- 3:37Speaker 5: you know, that what I love about the alpaca is that,
- 3:39Speaker 5: you know, he don't really know where he fit in.
- 3:41Speaker 5: It's like, should I be over here with the sheep?
- 3:43Speaker 5: Should I be over here with whatever? And I think
- 3:45Speaker 5: for me, I'm okay not knowing. And I'm cool with that.
- 3:52Speaker 5: I'm really cool showing up and being wherever they put me.
- 3:55Speaker 5: Wherever they put me, I'll show.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I love your energy, man. Speaking of energy, this is
- 4:00Speaker 1: big energy.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Kayla.
- 4:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:02Speaker 4: She has some twins.
- 4:03Speaker 1: She has some twins on the way.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Twins.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Twin boys, y'all. We rely on her for our spiritual
- 4:08Speaker 1: context a lot because sometimes me and this guy, we
- 4:10Speaker 1: get a little out of hand.
- 4:11Speaker 5: Yeah, like that time y'all were with me.
- 4:13Speaker 4: At BET Awards.
- 4:14Speaker 5: Y'all got out of hand.
- 4:15Speaker 6: No, that was really, we only went viral because of
- 4:19Speaker 6: your response.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I asked the question.
- 4:21Speaker 5: You highlighted a word.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I repeated the word.
- 4:23Speaker 5: It was y'all's fault. It was y'all's fault.
- 4:24Speaker 3: And keep in mind, it's our first time meeting, so
- 4:26Speaker 3: we like... Oh, we like, oh.
- 4:30Speaker 5: You know what?
- 4:31Speaker 2: Going off of that, though, honestly, that's something I wanted
- 4:33Speaker 2: to ask you because I feel like when people put
- 4:35Speaker 2: you in more of a revered spiritual position, sometimes they
- 4:39Speaker 2: lack understanding for the fact that you're still human. So
- 4:43Speaker 2: how do you navigate that space?
- 4:45Speaker 5: By doing exactly what I do. I move in ways
- 4:48Speaker 5: that I do want to kind of throw you off
- 4:50Speaker 5: to get you to understand. that that platform is only
- 4:54Speaker 5: worthy of one person. It's only worthy of one person.
- 4:57Speaker 5: And I think that that has been also to the
- 5:00Speaker 5: demise of people's own Christian goals of Christian faith or
- 5:04Speaker 5: spiritual faith is because a lot of times the leaders
- 5:07Speaker 5: love that energy. They love you to put them there.
- 5:11Speaker 5: And so the problem is, is that the higher I
- 5:13Speaker 5: allow you to put me, the further it is for
- 5:15Speaker 5: me to fall when I do. I stay low when
- 5:19Speaker 5: I do have a humble moment and have a mistake.
- 5:21Speaker 5: All it is is a trip. Because I never let
- 5:24Speaker 5: you get me too high. And so I love staying
- 5:27Speaker 5: low because, first of all, the attention deserves to be
- 5:30Speaker 5: on God and his glory. And so for me, you know,
- 5:33Speaker 5: that's how I try my best to move.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Thank you for saying that because I feel like your
- 5:36Speaker 1: music reaches people in the church but also reaches people
- 5:40Speaker 1: who don't really go to church as much that want
- 5:43Speaker 1: to go to church and is trying to live and
- 5:47Speaker 1: work on themselves.
- 5:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Is that intentional?
- 5:51Speaker 5: Well, it's intentionally me. It's intentionally me. We can't determine
- 5:59Speaker 5: always what a song is going to do. Just because
- 6:02Speaker 5: you put a sample to a song doesn't mean it goes.
- 6:06Speaker 5: Nobody knows that all of it is in the sovereign
- 6:08Speaker 5: hand of the Lord. We just try to be available.
- 6:15Speaker 5: My purpose as a Christian is to just want to
- 6:17Speaker 5: be focused to give God glory, share my mistakes, share
- 6:20Speaker 5: my flaws, share my failures so people can see themselves
- 6:23Speaker 5: in my journey, and to be able to believe, well,
- 6:25Speaker 5: if God has given that brother at their grace, he
- 6:27Speaker 5: sure got some room for me. And so that's how
- 6:29Speaker 5: I try to rock, and I try to maneuver so
- 6:32Speaker 5: that people can see me, you know, as twin. As twin.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Your energy is so great. That's why I got mad.
- 6:39Speaker 4: I'm not trying to bring it up.
- 6:41Speaker 5: You can bring it up whenever you want to bring
- 6:42Speaker 5: it up.
- 6:42Speaker 1: But I got mad on your behalf when I was like,
- 6:46Speaker 1: when you put Glorilla on the new record. And I
- 6:49Speaker 1: was like, why can't he put Glorilla.
- 6:51Speaker 4: On the record?
- 6:52Speaker 5: Facts. Facts.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Because your energy says, okay, that was your choice.
- 6:56Speaker 5: Yeah. And the girl's name is Gloria. Hallelujah.
- 6:59Speaker 6: Hello.
- 7:00Speaker 3: You didn't say that. You didn't say that.
- 7:01Speaker 6: Hello.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I did say that on the radio.
- 7:03Speaker 4: Yeah, you did say that.
- 7:03Speaker 5: And her background is church. Church.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Her whole family's background is church.
- 7:08Speaker 5: All the time. Like, she knows more about gospel music
- 7:11Speaker 5: than the average Joe. And I love, I saw recently
- 7:16Speaker 5: that she posted something in a car.
- 7:17Speaker 3: She did.
- 7:18Speaker 5: And nobody told her to do that. She just had
- 7:20Speaker 5: like a little spiritual nugget that she wanted to do.
- 7:22Speaker 5: Just talking about God.
- 7:24Speaker 7: Right, right.
- 7:24Speaker 5: And that's why you can't monitor people's journey. You know
- 7:28Speaker 5: what I'm saying? You can't micromanage people's process. Yeah. You
- 7:31Speaker 5: know what I mean? Like, I can't come in and say,
- 7:34Speaker 5: if you're having twins, you should look different now. You know,
- 7:36Speaker 5: you should look basically like. that's my stomach.
- 7:40Speaker 8: You don't know yeah yeah how you how you gonna
- 7:44Speaker 8: micromanage my pregnancy yes you know and i think that
- 7:47Speaker 8: when it comes man man man man that analogy is
- 7:50Speaker 8: so fire because it is we're all.
- 7:52Speaker 5: Giving birth to something right and if we don't allow
- 7:56Speaker 5: the the the creator when we don't allow god himself
- 7:59Speaker 5: to do the process and the delivery we can also
- 8:02Speaker 5: mess up the process of the Mm-hmm. You know what
- 8:06Speaker 5: I mean? Like, if she went to the doctor and
- 8:07Speaker 5: tried to rush that delivery, she could hurt what's inside
- 8:10Speaker 5: of her.
- 8:11Speaker 8: Correct.
- 8:11Speaker 4: For sure.
- 8:12Speaker 5: And so we got to allow people to go through
- 8:13Speaker 5: the process. Because if we don't, if we try to
- 8:15Speaker 5: come in and judge that process, we can mess up
- 8:18Speaker 5: their delivery.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:20Speaker 1: 100%.
- 8:20Speaker 6: Do you think it's a lot of people that do
- 8:21Speaker 6: get judged in church? Because I feel like sometimes people...
- 8:28Speaker 6: that are very involved in the church can be the
- 8:29Speaker 6: most judgmental people.
- 8:30Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah. First of all, leave that jacket. The
- 8:32Speaker 5: jacket is fire. Second of all, I think that it's
- 8:37Speaker 5: just very important to understand that everybody has a right
- 8:40Speaker 5: to judge. When the Bible talks about judging, it's talking
- 8:54Speaker 5: about a godly judgment, meaning that if I see you
- 8:59Speaker 5: in a position that's not best for you, and if
- 9:03Speaker 5: I say to you, hey, brother, you know, that could
- 9:05Speaker 5: hurt you, I'm making a judgment to win you back.
- 9:10Speaker 5: I'm trying to win you back. And the Bible judgment
- 9:12Speaker 5: was to be able to lovingly address something to win
- 9:15Speaker 5: you back, not to push you away. And the way
- 9:18Speaker 5: that we judge within Christian culture, within the West, is
- 9:22Speaker 5: that it's always condemning. There's a condemning connotation to it.
- 9:26Speaker 5: And that is not biblical centric. That's not the judgment
- 9:30Speaker 5: that God's word has really revealed to us to be
- 9:32Speaker 5: able to maneuver with humans. But we all make judgments.
- 9:38Speaker 5: You made a judgment on that jacket. This jacket is fire.
- 9:40Speaker 5: That was a judgment. So we all judge. But it's like,
- 9:43Speaker 5: what is the heart and intent and the motive behind
- 9:46Speaker 5: your judgment? Is it to win? Because the Bible says
- 9:49Speaker 5: he who wins a soul is wise. And so if
- 9:51Speaker 5: you condemning people, throwing people away, that ain't winning nobody.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Now, what do you think about super churches?
- 9:58Speaker 4: You landed that plane.
- 9:59Speaker 3: He landed that plane.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Do you feel like, sorry, I didn't mean to cut
- 10:03Speaker 2: you off.
- 10:03Speaker 5: You don't want the babies, you go first. For sure.
- 10:07Speaker 2: He said it, not me. But do you feel like
- 10:09Speaker 2: navigating your relationship with like discovering the truth about your
- 10:12Speaker 2: biological father and then navigating your relationship with your mother,
- 10:15Speaker 2: do you feel like that has expanded your your bandwidth
- 10:18Speaker 2: on like spiritually like how you forgive and how you
- 10:21Speaker 2: show up in that sense.
- 10:26Speaker 5: Um those things are still a work in progress yeah
- 10:30Speaker 5: and i must be candid you know.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I like that i i didn't ask for any of
- 10:35Speaker 2: that you.
- 10:35Speaker 5: Know i was a kid i didn't ask for that
- 10:38Speaker 5: so Once again, there will be some people that will say, well,
- 10:43Speaker 5: you should be over this. Of course, you should be forgiven.
- 10:46Speaker 5: It's like, once again, you are monitoring my process.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Yes.
- 10:52Speaker 5: And if you took that energy and monitored your growth,
- 10:55Speaker 5: that is where we would be better believers in the
- 10:58Speaker 5: body of Christ. It's that if you're so busy looking
- 11:01Speaker 5: what's on my stove and how I'm cooking, you're going
- 11:04Speaker 5: to burn what you're cooking. because you're not paying attention
- 11:08Speaker 5: what god is trying to prepare in you yes and
- 11:10Speaker 5: so the issue with my mother my father will probably
- 11:13Speaker 5: forever be a a burden and a cross that i
- 11:18Speaker 5: have to care for the rest of my life but
- 11:20Speaker 5: i'm okay with that because everybody.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Caring something i think that's what i love about knowing
- 11:26Speaker 2: and discovering that about you like how you say the
- 11:28Speaker 2: twin effect of just like People, how much glory and
- 11:32Speaker 2: faithfulness and just like resilience that you carry in your
- 11:36Speaker 2: spirit to know that you're carrying that cross on your back.
- 11:38Speaker 2: But you're still showing the effort to, you know, bear
- 11:42Speaker 2: forgiveness and like show up and then being candid. Like
- 11:46Speaker 2: I'm not all the way there. I think I think
- 11:48Speaker 2: people need to see and hear that because sometimes there's
- 11:51Speaker 2: a discouragement of like once you find something out, you
- 11:53Speaker 2: got to just get over it.
- 11:55Speaker 5: Oh, in it. And that heartbreaking is because forgiveness is free,
- 11:59Speaker 5: but trust is earned. Yes. And we can't manage the
- 12:04Speaker 5: process of our hearts. Our hearts move at the pace
- 12:06Speaker 5: that our hearts move.
- 12:07Speaker 6: Yes.
- 12:08Speaker 5: You know, and that's why I think it's so important. Like,
- 12:13Speaker 5: can you imagine how beautiful all of it would be
- 12:16Speaker 5: is that if every day somebody that you didn't really
- 12:19Speaker 5: care for, you took five minutes just to pray for them.
- 12:22Speaker 5: Ain't nobody doing that.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Ain't nobody doing that.
- 12:25Speaker 6: Nah.
- 12:26Speaker 5: Ain't nobody doing that. But imagine if every person on
- 12:30Speaker 5: this planet, if you saw somebody that irked you or
- 12:33Speaker 5: somebody you disagree with, every day for just five minutes,
- 12:36Speaker 5: you just took a moment just to pray for them. Right. Bro,
- 12:39Speaker 5: can you imagine how we would see the power of
- 12:41Speaker 5: God move in people's lives? Because we are now being
- 12:44Speaker 5: like him on the earth. We're being like him. You
- 12:47Speaker 5: want to be like Christ? Pray for somebody. Yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Because it's so mean out here.
- 12:53Speaker 1: It's so mean and heartless.
- 12:54Speaker 5: Everybody trying to make it. Everybody trying to survive right now.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Sometimes you're stepping on top of people to get to your.
- 13:01Speaker 4: That's good.
- 13:02Speaker 6: And I feel like everybody's traumatized.
- 13:05Speaker 5: Oh, that's so good. Even religious trauma. Yes. Even religious trauma.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:10Speaker 5: Even religious trauma. Like, let's tell somebody how in my generation...
- 13:16Speaker 5: And you know what? There probably are some churches that
- 13:18Speaker 5: do it. And ain't nothing about the Bible. Ain't nothing
- 13:21Speaker 5: about it rooted in the word. It's just black culture.
- 13:23Speaker 5: If a girl... If a single woman, a single young
- 13:27Speaker 5: woman got pregnant at church, she had to stand up
- 13:30Speaker 5: in front of the church and acknowledge her sin. And
- 13:36Speaker 5: if she was serving, like if she was in a
- 13:38Speaker 5: choir or like on some service in the church, then
- 13:41Speaker 5: she'd have to sit down until she had that baby.
- 13:44Speaker 5: That's traumatic. Can you imagine that young lady having to
- 13:47Speaker 5: stand up in front of the church and confess her
- 13:49Speaker 5: sins while the nigga that got her pregnant on the Oregon?
- 13:53Speaker 5: He's still playing.
- 13:53Speaker 2: He's still playing.
- 13:55Speaker 5: He's still playing for the church. That's a lot of
- 13:59Speaker 5: church culture that happened in a lot of churches in
- 14:03Speaker 5: my generation. That's traumatic to that generation.
- 14:06Speaker 3: That is traumatic.
- 14:07Speaker 6: You couldn't even imagine how somebody would feel And some
- 14:11Speaker 6: people be strangers at church. So it's like getting up
- 14:15Speaker 6: in front of a group of strangers and talking about,
- 14:17Speaker 6: you know, something in your life that's not their business.
- 14:20Speaker 5: And you trying to figure out, you trying to figure out,
- 14:24Speaker 5: it's like, man, I got a baby now. How am
- 14:26Speaker 5: I going to, that church need to be covering you.
- 14:29Speaker 5: They need to get rid of one of them Bentleys.
- 14:31Speaker 5: And now we're going to raise the money to go, okay,
- 14:33Speaker 5: this baby is going to go to college. It's what
- 14:35Speaker 5: we're going to do, church. It's what we're going to do, church.
- 14:37Speaker 5: We're going to come. We're going to, you know. No.
- 14:40Speaker 3: I'm glad you brought up the Bentley part because. We
- 14:43Speaker 3: talked to Ty Tribute. We talked to Ty.
- 14:45Speaker 5: Yeah, we talked to Ty Tribute.
- 14:47Speaker 6: And I was so curious because I was like, man,
- 14:50Speaker 6: how do we go to churches and we see mega
- 14:53Speaker 6: churches and we see these pastors who are multimillionaires and
- 14:57Speaker 6: then you have people in their church that's struggling.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:01Speaker 3: That don't get the help that they need.
- 15:02Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 15:03Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 15:03Speaker 3: But the pastor drives off into Bentley.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 3: Somebody from church might have to get an Uber back home.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah. That is very difficult. And shout out to
- 15:14Speaker 5: Ty Trippett. He's the homie. I love him, man. He's
- 15:16Speaker 5: an incredible gift, incredible artist. Yeah, and that is a
- 15:23Speaker 5: very painful reality that when people ask me how did
- 15:31Speaker 5: I feel about the Drewski skit, About the pastors My
- 15:37Speaker 5: response is Let's stop giving him content.
- 15:45Speaker 1: That's deep Because he had to get that from somewhere.
- 15:47Speaker 2: He had to get it from somewhere Let's stop giving
- 15:50Speaker 2: him content Yeah Let's stop giving him content Because he's
- 15:54Speaker 2: only mirroring something he.
- 15:55Speaker 6: Saw And it's on social Like social media is making
- 15:59Speaker 6: It's a monster It's different because I would never have
- 16:02Speaker 6: known that a lot of these pastors have this type
- 16:05Speaker 6: of wealth if it wasn't from them flaunting it on
- 16:07Speaker 6: social media. You know, like people doing ceremonies and they
- 16:11Speaker 6: got Gucci jackets on and I'm over here like, bro,
- 16:15Speaker 6: somebody at your church is starving.
- 16:18Speaker 5: 100%.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Your jacket is $ 20, 000. Preach, man.
- 16:22Speaker 5: Preach. I'm confused.
- 16:24Speaker 3: How old are you?
- 16:26Speaker 5: 32. 32? um were you raised in church.
- 16:32Speaker 6: I my family was into church um i was raised
- 16:35Speaker 6: in church a little bit i just couldn't really get
- 16:38Speaker 6: into the fact of it was just so much judgmental be.
- 16:42Speaker 5: Kindest be kindest i want to learn yeah like.
- 16:44Speaker 6: It's it was just too much judgment judgment in church
- 16:47Speaker 6: in the sense of like we supposed to be talking
- 16:50Speaker 6: about god but we talking about man you know such
- 16:52Speaker 6: and such lights got cut off and.
- 16:55Speaker 3: I'm like what are we talking about this at.
- 16:57Speaker 6: Church for like Yeah, you know this person, they lost
- 17:00Speaker 6: their job, and this person is on fire.
- 17:02Speaker 3: And I'm hearing all these things in church.
- 17:04Speaker 6: So it kind of made me feel like maybe I
- 17:08Speaker 6: wasn't in the right different churches that I went to,
- 17:10Speaker 6: but it just kind of made me be like, I
- 17:11Speaker 6: don't want to be.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Around this type of energy.
- 17:12Speaker 5: Wow.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Because we ain't talking about God.
- 17:14Speaker 6: We talking about the poverty that we all living in.
- 17:18Speaker 5: We all broke. That was really your experience?
- 17:21Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:22Speaker 3: That was my experience, you know, going to church.
- 17:25Speaker 6: And then, like I said, you see the pastor drive
- 17:28Speaker 6: off in a nice car, and then everybody else is struggling.
- 17:31Speaker 6: And then the pastor's like, don't worry about what the
- 17:33Speaker 6: pastor's doing.
- 17:35Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? With these offerings and stuff
- 17:36Speaker 3: that we're giving.
- 17:38Speaker 5: You would hear that?
- 17:39Speaker 6: Yes.
- 17:41Speaker 5: Yes. That's heartbreaking.
- 17:42Speaker 3: These are things that I experienced.
- 17:44Speaker 5: That is heartbreaking. And let me say to you, man,
- 17:47Speaker 5: I am very sorry for... for experiences that you and
- 17:52Speaker 5: many others have had. And it's traumatizing. It paints a
- 17:56Speaker 5: horrible picture on the heart of God. It paints a
- 17:59Speaker 5: horrible picture for the representation of our Lord and Savior,
- 18:03Speaker 5: Jesus Christ. And I would just lovingly, man, just encourage you,
- 18:07Speaker 5: please don't give up on God because of that foolishness.
- 18:10Speaker 3: No, I never gave up on God.
- 18:12Speaker 6: I just learned how to do my own worship in
- 18:16Speaker 6: my own space and not feel like, you know, we
- 18:19Speaker 6: all being judged in the environment.
- 18:21Speaker 5: And I want you to know again, I'm sorry for,
- 18:23Speaker 5: but I'm, I'm telling you as OG, that break my heart, bro.
- 18:27Speaker 5: That break my, it's because you know how many incredible
- 18:29Speaker 5: young black men that we've lost and turned away because
- 18:34Speaker 5: of that story.
- 18:34Speaker 1: No, for sure.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Many.
- 18:36Speaker 5: And, you know, and, and, and, you know, and, and,
- 18:39Speaker 5: and while I got the power of the microphone, shout
- 18:41Speaker 5: out to the churches that are doing it right. You
- 18:43Speaker 5: know what I'm saying? Shout out to the Philip Anthony
- 18:45Speaker 5: Mitchells and, uh, you know, you know, and there's Daniels and, uh,
- 18:48Speaker 5: and the Charlie Dates of the world. And, you know,
- 18:52Speaker 5: there's some, you know, there's some young homies out there
- 18:55Speaker 5: doing it right. And they ain't about that whoop-de-whoop. You
- 18:57Speaker 5: know what I'm saying? They really about that life, you know,
- 19:01Speaker 5: and you can pull up and feel it. And so, man,
- 19:04Speaker 5: but you know, man, but to all the young black
- 19:07Speaker 5: brothers that we've lost, like this king sitting across from me,
- 19:11Speaker 5: just hear from OG, man, I am so sorry that
- 19:14Speaker 5: you have had that experience. And I just pray, man,
- 19:17Speaker 5: that you don't give up. It's just like bad police,
- 19:20Speaker 5: you know, just, you know, just because there's some bad ones,
- 19:23Speaker 5: just understand stopping at that red light, still save your life.
- 19:27Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying? There's some bad police, but
- 19:29Speaker 5: that's stopping at that red light, still say, you know,
- 19:31Speaker 5: meaning the system and the purpose of the system still
- 19:34Speaker 5: is important. Stopping at that red light to save your life.
- 19:37Speaker 5: Just because of some bad police, don't, don't start running
- 19:40Speaker 5: red lights. You know what I'm saying? You know, you know,
- 19:42Speaker 5: I don't trust the police. I ain't gonna trust this light.
- 19:45Speaker 5: You may you know i'm saying you know you you
- 19:47Speaker 5: may not want to align them both together even though
- 19:50Speaker 5: they come from the same system and so that would
- 19:52Speaker 5: be my loving word of encouragement for anybody who has
- 19:54Speaker 5: had that type of pain because that pain is real
- 19:57Speaker 5: and again i'm very sorry for your experience.
- 19:59Speaker 6: Yeah it's definitely traumatizing but yes i know it is
- 20:03Speaker 6: but i also understand that like everything ain't for everybody
- 20:07Speaker 6: like i can go on youtube and And give my service.
- 20:10Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 20:11Speaker 6: Like, I could do things in my personal space.
- 20:13Speaker 5: To make me feel good. That is true.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Rather than being like, I got to go here in
- 20:18Speaker 3: order to get my praise.
- 20:19Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 20:21Speaker 5: That is true. Like, you know, like, the only thing
- 20:24Speaker 5: I would say, if you don't mind me saying humbly,
- 20:26Speaker 5: is that there is, when you find the right place,
- 20:30Speaker 5: there is something powerful just about the link up. Me
- 20:34Speaker 5: being like, I could have Zoomed you to do this,
- 20:38Speaker 5: But it ain't as powerful as this. You know what
- 20:41Speaker 5: I'm saying? And that's my humble opinion. I'm not trying to.
- 20:44Speaker 3: No, I agree. I agree 100%.
- 20:46Speaker 5: There's something powerful about us all pulling up because let's
- 20:51Speaker 5: say you go to a good, healthy church, right? It's
- 20:53Speaker 5: something dope about, well, if I'm weak in something that
- 20:56Speaker 5: day that you're strong in, it's something dope about me
- 20:58Speaker 5: being next to you and you saying to me, get up.
- 21:02Speaker 5: Get up. You can do this.
- 21:03Speaker 9: Get up.
- 21:03Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying? And next Sunday, it may
- 21:06Speaker 5: be you. And I'm like, get up. Get up. Come on.
- 21:10Speaker 5: Come on. Come on.
- 21:11Speaker 6: Come on.
- 21:11Speaker 5: Let's go to Alton and we're going to pray. You know,
- 21:13Speaker 5: there's something powerful about that. When you're at the crib
- 21:16Speaker 5: and you're draws watching it, you know, and you ain't
- 21:18Speaker 5: got nobody next to you to be able to grab
- 21:20Speaker 5: your arm and be like, hey, hey, hey, we can. Hey,
- 21:24Speaker 5: you made it last month. We, you know, we're going
- 21:27Speaker 5: to make it this month. There's something powerful about that. So,
- 21:30Speaker 5: you know, I just want people to know that if
- 21:33Speaker 5: you find the right place, it's the right thing.
- 21:35Speaker 3: You're right.
- 21:36Speaker 2: I think that I had a similar experience, too, like
- 21:38Speaker 2: with my... Not to be... negative towards anybody but like
- 21:43Speaker 2: with my daughter's father when we were first together I
- 21:46Speaker 2: was like my first experience ever joining a church and
- 21:48Speaker 2: like really getting close to God and I got very
- 21:51Speaker 2: discouraged and not only that relationship but just the environment
- 21:55Speaker 2: of church in the way that I was introduced and
- 21:57Speaker 2: then when my grandfather passed in 2019 it was like
- 22:00Speaker 2: God just got me to himself and I remember like
- 22:03Speaker 2: God's your music your music I used to listen to
- 22:07Speaker 2: it and like something about the name of Jesus. Like
- 22:10Speaker 2: I'm telling you, like I used to just have it
- 22:11Speaker 2: on repeat, have it on repeat, have it on repeat.
- 22:14Speaker 2: And then finally, God spoke to me one day and
- 22:18Speaker 2: he told me to travel to go to Stephen Furtick's church.
- 22:22Speaker 5: Stephen Furtick's dope.
- 22:23Speaker 2: And when I tell you everything that could have possibly
- 22:26Speaker 2: went wrong down to My car had went out. The
- 22:30Speaker 2: oil from my sister's oil needed to be changed.
- 22:33Speaker 6: Right.
- 22:33Speaker 2: We were going, you know, we just two girls trying
- 22:35Speaker 2: to drive. So we like, man, we can't go. And
- 22:37Speaker 2: I called him the one who I felt like I
- 22:40Speaker 2: had been led astray by my expectations for him and
- 22:43Speaker 2: his humanity that I had like I had not had
- 22:45Speaker 2: an equal understanding of my relationship with God, just me
- 22:48Speaker 2: and him.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I called him.
- 22:49Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm thinking he's going to say no. I'm like, listen,
- 22:52Speaker 2: I have to take your truck. Like, God is calling
- 22:54Speaker 2: me here. And I go there, and then T.D. Jakes
- 22:56Speaker 2: was actually a guest pastor that day. We get there.
- 23:00Speaker 2: They close. Like, I'm talking about I'm literally at the
- 23:03Speaker 2: front door. They close it off. They say we at capacity.
- 23:06Speaker 2: And I look to my sister. She's like, you want
- 23:08Speaker 2: to go home? I'm like, no. He told me to
- 23:10Speaker 2: do something. I'm like, I got to go back to him.
- 23:12Speaker 2: I have to go back to him. And so we go.
- 23:14Speaker 2: We go to the second service. We get there. They're
- 23:16Speaker 2: in the middle of it. I'm like... It's okay. We're
- 23:19Speaker 2: just going to catch what we need to catch here.
- 23:20Speaker 2: But it's funny because that sermon was for her. We start,
- 23:23Speaker 2: they go to, we stay for the next service after that. Man,
- 23:26Speaker 2: how about the first thing? Listen, it was something God
- 23:30Speaker 2: was calling me. I didn't know I was, like I
- 23:33Speaker 2: was supposed to be there, but I knew I was
- 23:34Speaker 2: supposed to be there, if that makes any sense. Like
- 23:36Speaker 2: I didn't know the why, but I knew that I
- 23:38Speaker 2: needed to be there. And so the first thing he
- 23:41Speaker 2: starts talking about is how he lost his grandmother. And
- 23:43Speaker 2: like I told you, I had been led back to
- 23:45Speaker 2: God after losing my grandfather.
- 23:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:47Speaker 2: When I tell you I wept in that church, that's
- 23:49Speaker 2: where I found God.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Wow.
- 23:51Speaker 2: That's where I found God in that moment. But like you,
- 23:53Speaker 2: I was scared to go back because I'm like, they're
- 23:55Speaker 2: going to shun me. My relationship with my daughter's father
- 23:58Speaker 2: didn't work. We're not married. I'm a baby mom. Like,
- 24:01Speaker 2: you know, all of those things. But I learned so
- 24:03Speaker 2: much strength by finding God by myself so that people
- 24:07Speaker 2: could not lead me astray from God no more.
- 24:09Speaker 5: I love that. I love that. Let me ask you
- 24:12Speaker 5: three of this, man. You know, as young kings and queens,
- 24:16Speaker 5: when you hear.
- 24:18Speaker 5: A record like glow and me, do you feel, do you,
- 24:24Speaker 5: do you feel that there's like, do you feel that
- 24:27Speaker 5: that music helps people?
- 24:29Speaker 3: Yes.
- 24:30Speaker 1: We feed the ground though. We're a little bit more
- 24:33Speaker 1: down to earth.
- 24:33Speaker 4: We're amongst each other.
- 24:35Speaker 1: And I wanted to add to, I didn't have this
- 24:38Speaker 1: experience at all with church. I had a very prayerful grandmother.
- 24:41Speaker 1: She went to church every Sunday and my mom didn't
- 24:43Speaker 1: go to church every Sunday.
- 24:45Speaker 4: But she prayed every day. She still prayed all the time.
- 24:48Speaker 5: Wow.
- 24:49Speaker 1: So I had prayer in my life. And I grew
- 24:53Speaker 1: up with people praying for me every day.
- 24:55Speaker 6: Wow.
- 24:56Speaker 4: So I know when my grandma passed away, I... It's okay.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Come on, be in it. This is good, man.
- 25:03Speaker 5: This is so good. This is so good, man. Thank you, God,
- 25:06Speaker 5: for this really loving environment, man.
- 25:09Speaker 9: I knew the person that prayed for me every day
- 25:13Speaker 9: is gone now. And it's just my mom and my dad, Kudo.
- 25:21Speaker 9: But when my grandma left, my soul felt different.
- 25:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:27Speaker 9: Because I knew it was someone that prayed for me
- 25:31Speaker 9: every day when they opened their eyes.
- 25:33Speaker 5: Wow.
- 25:34Speaker 9: And when she left, I just knew that that person
- 25:39Speaker 9: was gone because it's so cold.
- 25:43Speaker 4: In this world.
- 25:44Speaker 5: Yes.
- 25:45Speaker 9: That's why I'm such an asshole and I don't know
- 25:47Speaker 9: if I'm mean or I'm just very aggressive.
- 25:51Speaker 4: But I'm very soft when it comes to my family.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Wow.
- 25:54Speaker 4: And my friends.
- 25:55Speaker 8: Wow.
- 25:55Speaker 4: That's why I don't like making friends.
- 25:57Speaker 5: Wow.
- 25:57Speaker 4: I don't want to make friends because I don't want
- 26:00Speaker 4: you to see that side of me.
- 26:01Speaker 6: Wow.
- 26:01Speaker 5: Wow, that's powerful.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Because the side that you see of me, I got
- 26:05Speaker 1: to get some money.
- 26:05Speaker 4: I got five kids and a wife.
- 26:07Speaker 5: Powerful.
- 26:08Speaker 4: I got bills to pay.
- 26:09Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:09Speaker 4: My overhead is very expensive every month.
- 26:11Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:12Speaker 4: But. I grew up with prayer, and I know prayer
- 26:16Speaker 4: works because I was taught to pray.
- 26:18Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:20Speaker 4: And I can tell when other people aren't taught to pray.
- 26:22Speaker 5: Wow.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Because I can see how they handle conflict.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 26:26Speaker 7: Facts.
- 26:26Speaker 4: They have a conflict incorrectly.
- 26:28Speaker 5: Facts.
- 26:29Speaker 4: Well, sometimes it's really a prayer and a couple of
- 26:32Speaker 4: steps back.
- 26:33Speaker 5: Facts. Facts.
- 26:34Speaker 4: With all the violence going on.
- 26:36Speaker 5: Facts.
- 26:37Speaker 2: You know, the beautiful thing, though, is that about God
- 26:40Speaker 2: is all of them prayers that she prayed, like, that's
- 26:44Speaker 2: what my life was like sitting in solace with God.
- 26:47Speaker 2: He was just praying, praying, praying, praying. I've never opened
- 26:50Speaker 2: up a Bible, you know, like, I just prayed, like,
- 26:53Speaker 2: I just called out to him, I just talked to him,
- 26:55Speaker 2: I talked through it, and, like, one thing I can
- 26:57Speaker 2: say is them prayers I prayed back then, they carry
- 27:00Speaker 2: me through seasons that I go through now. Like, I
- 27:02Speaker 2: know when I talk to God, like, I know I
- 27:05Speaker 2: prayed for this seven, eight, nine, ten years ago, you know,
- 27:08Speaker 2: and I've talked prayer life in my family now like
- 27:11Speaker 2: when I just went to trial when you just talked
- 27:13Speaker 2: about I prayed the minute we came out the courtroom
- 27:16Speaker 2: and I knew it was already doing not that everything's
- 27:18Speaker 2: going to go exactly the way you think but I
- 27:20Speaker 2: know it's going to go the way that it's intended
- 27:22Speaker 2: to go and I trust God so much that I
- 27:25Speaker 2: make peace with that now so I say all that
- 27:27Speaker 2: to say even with you and your grandmother like the
- 27:29Speaker 2: things that she had made peace with God about now
- 27:32Speaker 2: are the things that are going to be revolutionary in
- 27:34Speaker 2: your life for seasons to come just because she was
- 27:37Speaker 2: praying so you lost her in the physical But her
- 27:40Speaker 2: essence will never leave your spirit simply because she already
- 27:43Speaker 2: planted those seeds in her prayers.
- 27:47Speaker 5: Yo, man, I think that if you guys would allow
- 27:51Speaker 5: me to, man, because y'all have really been a blessing.
- 27:53Speaker 5: And I think the impact that y'all have on culture,
- 27:57Speaker 5: your transparency, which is so strong and powerful. Just know
- 28:01Speaker 5: that that was very masculine of you. It was very
- 28:05Speaker 5: strong of you because... Black men have forgotten how to
- 28:09Speaker 5: shed tears. Facts. Facts.
- 28:12Speaker 6: Yes.
- 28:13Speaker 2: And to do it amongst, like, to.
- 28:14Speaker 5: Even be in the first... There's no capping that at all.
- 28:16Speaker 7: No.
- 28:17Speaker 5: Black men have forgotten. We have forgotten how to shed
- 28:19Speaker 5: tears because we can't let you see that. Yes. We
- 28:22Speaker 5: can't let you see it because it has been used
- 28:25Speaker 5: against us so much.
- 28:27Speaker 6: Yes.
- 28:28Speaker 5: And we can't allow.
- 28:28Speaker 3: We're traumatized into saying if we feel emotions, then we're
- 28:33Speaker 3: not a man. Yeah. Yeah. And you've been taught that
- 28:36Speaker 3: your whole life. That's why.
- 28:37Speaker 6: You, a young black man as a kid, anytime you cry, boy,
- 28:42Speaker 6: you better not cry.
- 28:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:44Speaker 1: They changed for me when I had a daughter, though.
- 28:46Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:46Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:47Speaker 1: God blessed me by having four daughters.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:50Speaker 4: I've turned into a boy. Marshmallow.
- 28:53Speaker 5: Yes. That's a lot. That's a lot to have in
- 28:55Speaker 5: your house.
- 28:56Speaker 7: Marshmallow.
- 28:57Speaker 5: Four daughters and a white boy. That's a lot going
- 29:00Speaker 5: on in your house.
- 29:01Speaker 4: I got to deal with so many emotions.
- 29:02Speaker 5: That's a lot of emotions.
- 29:03Speaker 1: But I also learned how to be emotional, which is
- 29:06Speaker 1: very important.
- 29:06Speaker 4: That's beautiful.
- 29:07Speaker 5: That's beautiful.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Because they're a safe place for you, too.
- 29:09Speaker 4: Correct.
- 29:10Speaker 5: Man, you know, man, would you guys be comfortable, man,
- 29:14Speaker 5: would y'all allow me, man, to just pray?
- 29:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:18Speaker 5: Or just, you know, just for the kings watching.
- 29:19Speaker 4: The reason why we're happy because this is what we
- 29:21Speaker 4: do with her.
- 29:22Speaker 2: This is what I do.
- 29:23Speaker 4: She does this with us.
- 29:24Speaker 6: Yes.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Now we got the alpaca.
- 29:26Speaker 5: The alpaca.
- 29:28Speaker 3: The alpaca is in the building.
- 29:30Speaker 5: The awkward goat. Yeah. Awkward goat.
- 29:34Speaker 7: Man.
- 29:36Speaker 5: Man, father. How beautiful. it is that we can feel
- 29:42Speaker 5: you in this room and we can see you show
- 29:44Speaker 5: up like this. Because, God, we understand that this also
- 29:48Speaker 5: is church. This room right now is turned into a sanctuary.
- 29:52Speaker 5: This is a church. And we are all just blown
- 29:56Speaker 5: away at how beautiful you've shown up here today. We
- 30:00Speaker 5: give you the glory. It's about you, you the VIP,
- 30:02Speaker 5: you the star, you the headliner. And we just come because, Lord,
- 30:06Speaker 5: we know a lot of people are hurting and need you. Lord,
- 30:09Speaker 5: I thank you for this young king that has showed
- 30:11Speaker 5: us that the liquid from his eyes is the power
- 30:14Speaker 5: that can break chains. And so there's some young soldiers
- 30:18Speaker 5: and young queens watching this right now that are facing
- 30:21Speaker 5: some heavy obstacles in life. Some of them are mad
- 30:24Speaker 5: at you. Some of them are confused by you. Some
- 30:27Speaker 5: of them are lost. Some of them in I feel
- 30:30Speaker 5: like no prayer has been answered. Father, let this be
- 30:32Speaker 5: a moment right now in your name, Jesus, that you
- 30:36Speaker 5: do something so supernatural within their generation because these are
- 30:40Speaker 5: the leaders and the voices of their generation. Use these
- 30:44Speaker 5: three right now, Father, to do something that is unorthodox,
- 30:48Speaker 5: that is not traditional, that will bring you glory. And
- 30:54Speaker 5: as it brings you glory, something deep will even happen
- 30:57Speaker 5: in them. Lord, and those that have created these shields
- 31:02Speaker 5: that don't allow their emotions and their heart to be shown, Father,
- 31:06Speaker 5: start breaking them chains. Let them know. Let them know
- 31:10Speaker 5: that there is healing in their honesty. Let them know
- 31:13Speaker 5: that when they cry out, when they let that liquid
- 31:16Speaker 5: fall from their eyes, that that has power to do
- 31:19Speaker 5: the impossible. And, Father, right now we know that the
- 31:22Speaker 5: world is crazy and it's cold out here. Would you please,
- 31:26Speaker 5: please show up? and let us see you. Do something
- 31:31Speaker 5: that is undeniable to let their generation know that you real.
- 31:35Speaker 5: Not another church service, not another offering, not another whoop-de-whoop
- 31:40Speaker 5: that may be, but something that will make the credit,
- 31:46Speaker 5: not go to man, but go to you. And I'm
- 31:49Speaker 5: asking this in your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
- 31:54Speaker 7: Amen.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Now that we got that out of the way, Are
- 31:58Speaker 1: me and Plies twins?
- 32:02Speaker 5: That's how I thought he was about to do that.
- 32:06Speaker 3: I'm always ready.
- 32:07Speaker 5: I'm always ready. Are you ready for this one?
- 32:10Speaker 3: They really say you and Plies are twins?
- 32:11Speaker 1: Oh, they always put the little.
- 32:12Speaker 3: So is Plies the evil twin?
- 32:14Speaker 2: Wow.
- 32:15Speaker 5: That's what they would say, I guess. That's what they
- 32:18Speaker 5: would say.
- 32:18Speaker 1: I do have a question, though.
- 32:19Speaker 5: What's your question?
- 32:20Speaker 1: Would you be down to do a versus? We talked
- 32:22Speaker 1: to Timberland a month ago.
- 32:24Speaker 4: I did a versus before.
- 32:25Speaker 5: I did a versus before.
- 32:26Speaker 6: But....
- 32:29Speaker 5: When Versus was doing what it was doing during the COVID,
- 32:31Speaker 5: I did one with the legend Fred Hammond.
- 32:35Speaker 3: We need the concert.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Now that it's non-COVID.
- 32:38Speaker 3: We need the concert.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Would you be down to do another one?
- 32:45Speaker 5: I think other gospel artists deserve a chance. You know,
- 32:48Speaker 5: here's the thing right now, man. I want people to know,
- 32:50Speaker 5: and I'm so glad I got this opportunity to say this.
- 32:52Speaker 5: I want the culture to know there are other gospel artists.
- 32:57Speaker 5: I said, There are other gospel artists that are cold.
- 33:01Speaker 6: Who? Oh, man.
- 33:03Speaker 5: Where my mic at? Man, please. Chandler Moore is a beast.
- 33:07Speaker 5: There's a young, young named Chandler Moore. Jonathan McReynolds. Daryl Rawls.
- 33:12Speaker 5: Kiara Sheard. Jaqueline Carr. Tasha Cobbs Leonard. Man, it's so many, right?
- 33:18Speaker 5: It's so many. Hitters, bro. Maverick City. It's just so many. Bro, bro, bro.
- 33:23Speaker 5: It's just so many. So many. Even in Christian hip hop,
- 33:26Speaker 5: it's so many.
- 33:27Speaker 1: On top of Lecrae, 1K Few.
- 33:28Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah. All of that.
- 33:29Speaker 3: All of that.
- 33:30Speaker 5: Man, I'm telling you, there are so many. And, man,
- 33:33Speaker 5: my desire is to bring as much attention on all
- 33:36Speaker 5: of these incredible young artists that have found. Pastor Mike Jr.
- 33:42Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying? Yeah, you know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no.
- 33:45Speaker 5: He don't.
- 33:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:46Speaker 5: It's so many. It's so many gospel artists that I
- 33:50Speaker 5: really want people to be put on about because, yo,
- 33:54Speaker 5: It's hot on the block. It's hot on the block.
- 33:56Speaker 5: And whatever you need, whatsoever you need, it's out there.
- 34:00Speaker 2: What about a Kirk Franklin and Friends? That could be
- 34:04Speaker 2: how you fellowship that kind of like.
- 34:06Speaker 5: Oh, you mean the verses?
- 34:08Speaker 2: No, not even a verse. It's a concert where you
- 34:11Speaker 2: bring fellowship to every person, you know, who can possibly
- 34:15Speaker 2: attain that you just brought up. But Kirk Franklin and Friends, like,
- 34:18Speaker 2: you know, they do festivals like that all the time.
- 34:19Speaker 2: Why not for a gospel?
- 34:21Speaker 5: Well, you know, I did try to do a festival before.
- 34:24Speaker 5: I had my own little music festival. You know, we
- 34:27Speaker 5: just got to get the word out. You know, like
- 34:29Speaker 5: gospel music, is in a place right now but think
- 34:32Speaker 5: about when you were coming up your mama had bobby
- 34:34Speaker 5: jones gospel like you had spots where you could see
- 34:39Speaker 5: it right now they're not out they're not a lot
- 34:41Speaker 5: of outlets i think about how many gospel artists have
- 34:43Speaker 5: the privilege of being on the bottle alert you know
- 34:45Speaker 5: what i mean yeah yeah you know.
- 34:46Speaker 2: You know so it's like you guys that's where us
- 34:49Speaker 2: we fellowship is pushing.
- 34:51Speaker 6: That but you know what it's it's interesting because i
- 34:55Speaker 6: feel like people like you, people like Todd Tribute, I
- 34:58Speaker 6: feel like y'all understand the two different worlds and y'all
- 35:01Speaker 6: know how to bridge the gap. Because when anytime you
- 35:07Speaker 6: show up, we like, we still surprise you here.
- 35:12Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? I got emailed and it
- 35:14Speaker 1: was like, Kurt Frank, I put it in the chat.
- 35:17Speaker 4: We had a big chat.
- 35:18Speaker 3: You don't see our whole staff here?
- 35:21Speaker 5: Okay, now they shocked. Why? Why? Why they shocked? Like
- 35:26Speaker 5: they wouldn't think that I would come?
- 35:29Speaker 1: I think sometimes it's just like you're a mythical figure sometimes.
- 35:33Speaker 2: I think it's a stigma that's present in the culture
- 35:35Speaker 2: as though because like, you know, certain things like even
- 35:38Speaker 2: you putting glow on the record and then the stigma,
- 35:41Speaker 2: the people who come out the woodworks feeling like it's
- 35:43Speaker 2: not spiritual, but like God bless you both with talent.
- 35:47Speaker 2: And so for you to combine that into one thing,
- 35:49Speaker 2: into fellowship and reach different people who need to hear
- 35:53Speaker 2: that record, her platform, your platform and put it together,
- 35:56Speaker 2: they don't see the big picture of it. So I
- 35:58Speaker 2: think more than anything, it's the stigma that's present, because
- 36:01Speaker 2: to be honest, it's not two different worlds. We all
- 36:04Speaker 2: exist in the same frequency and the same love is God.
- 36:08Speaker 3: I would say algorithm.
- 36:09Speaker 5: Yeah. Right.
- 36:10Speaker 6: So when you put the record out with GLOW, You're
- 36:13Speaker 6: reaching algorithm outside of just gospel music. And I feel
- 36:18Speaker 6: like that's a lot of times when you said it
- 36:21Speaker 6: seems like you're the only one.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Well, you've been around for so long. Like you've been
- 36:26Speaker 3: a part of all of our childhood.
- 36:28Speaker 5: 74 years.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:29Speaker 5: 74. It was a joke. It was a joke that
- 36:34Speaker 5: didn't land well. It didn't land well.
- 36:38Speaker 3: You know, I was.
- 36:39Speaker 5: Like, I was like, hold on now. I was trying to,
- 36:42Speaker 5: I was going to start Googling real quick.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Hold on, we didn't get that in footnotes.
- 36:47Speaker 5: Go on, go on, finish. Yeah, yeah.
- 36:49Speaker 3: You've been around for a long time.
- 36:51Speaker 6: You've had a lot of longevity in this industry, but
- 36:55Speaker 6: you've always known how to bridge the algorithms. Yeah.
- 37:01Speaker 3: Because there's people, I'm telling you now.
- 37:03Speaker 5: We're no longer saying the gap now. We're saying the algorithm.
- 37:07Speaker 5: The algorithm. That's why I took a joke. Because, yeah,
- 37:11Speaker 5: super different. Because, you know, used to bridge the gap,
- 37:14Speaker 5: but now you're bridging the algorithm. Well, then I need
- 37:18Speaker 5: to try to do a better job of bringing people
- 37:22Speaker 5: in my community who can bridge the algorithm.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Well, you need to educate them because I think that
- 37:27Speaker 3: what you do.
- 37:28Speaker 5: Teach me, teach me.
- 37:28Speaker 6: Like... you should educate them on how you, you're doing
- 37:32Speaker 6: a press run, right?
- 37:34Speaker 3: With a hip hop artist.
- 37:35Speaker 6: You know how many people, when you did that post-collab,
- 37:38Speaker 6: that may not know who you are? Like younger people.
- 37:43Speaker 6: And then now they get a chance to look at
- 37:45Speaker 6: your catalog. And then now when they go tell their mom,
- 37:49Speaker 6: their mom is putting them on. So now you're touching
- 37:51Speaker 6: two different generations. And a lot of gospel artists.
- 37:55Speaker 3: Don't know how to market.
- 37:56Speaker 5: Right. You know what? Let me, ah, see, now he
- 38:00Speaker 5: in some deep water right there. That's good, because I
- 38:03Speaker 5: love the young minds. Like, I love being around people
- 38:05Speaker 5: younger than me because I love to learn. I'm a student. Like,
- 38:09Speaker 5: every time I'm around, like, young, young, young, young thinkers,
- 38:11Speaker 5: it's like, you know? But, but, but, but the other
- 38:18Speaker 5: challenge is the lack of opportunity. See, see, see, some
- 38:25Speaker 5: of what I'm blessed to do is, like you said,
- 38:27Speaker 5: What God has blessed me to do. See, if I
- 38:32Speaker 5: can just really be real honest about one important thing
- 38:35Speaker 5: I got to say. My God, I didn't know what
- 38:37Speaker 5: I was doing. All these years, this wasn't no plan.
- 38:41Speaker 3: You fooled us.
- 38:43Speaker 5: It fooled me. It fooled me. On my mama. On
- 38:49Speaker 5: my mama.
- 38:49Speaker 3: It fooled me.
- 38:50Speaker 1: So, Todd Trippin said the same thing.
- 38:52Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, he did.
- 38:53Speaker 1: He said he didn't know.
- 38:56Speaker 3: Yeah. He was going to jail and everything.
- 38:57Speaker 5: So, let me ask you a question.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Was your contracts not correct?
- 39:01Speaker 5: Well, here's what I'm saying. Is that you can't make
- 39:05Speaker 5: a song crossover in gospel. That's what I'm trying to say. Like,
- 39:09Speaker 5: you could have the hottest this and the hottest that,
- 39:11Speaker 5: but it don't mean that the one and one equals two.
- 39:14Speaker 5: That don't mean that over here. And sometimes it don't
- 39:16Speaker 5: mean it over there. Think about it. Think about, you know,
- 39:19Speaker 5: all the selected Quavo is getting right now with the Pharrell,
- 39:21Speaker 5: you know, you know, records, you know. And Pharrell is
- 39:24Speaker 5: still that guy. You know what I'm saying? Like, you know,
- 39:27Speaker 5: like that Les Clips record went. it was fire, you know,
- 39:31Speaker 5: but it didn't mean, you know, that everybody received it.
- 39:34Speaker 1: You know what you're talking about too?
- 39:36Speaker 5: I'm him.
- 39:37Speaker 6: Yeah. So, you know, he's the El Paso.
- 39:41Speaker 5: So, so, so, so, so because of that, a lot
- 39:45Speaker 5: of times in gospel music, You got to be also
- 39:49Speaker 5: careful to try to say that the template is you'll
- 39:52Speaker 5: work with a mainstream artist and this happens. You see
- 39:54Speaker 5: what I'm saying? Like that can't be the template in
- 39:57Speaker 5: gospel music. See, in gospel music that has a different
- 40:01Speaker 5: type of dichotomy to it or even different nuances and
- 40:04Speaker 5: ingredients is that everything over here is supposed to be
- 40:07Speaker 5: about God. Everything that's the foundation now what we build
- 40:11Speaker 5: on that we gotta sometimes come back to okay Does
- 40:13Speaker 5: this do that does this bring attention to God this
- 40:15Speaker 5: you know? So it's like if we do this we
- 40:17Speaker 5: do that okay, you know, how would that be and
- 40:20Speaker 5: so and then every gospel artist also has to have
- 40:26Speaker 5: They have to have the acumen that y'all Will believe
- 40:32Speaker 5: that's him meaning that if a rapper comes a ball
- 40:35Speaker 5: alert and he's from a the suburbs, and he coming
- 40:40Speaker 5: here talking about, you know, hard life and the block
- 40:43Speaker 5: and the mud, you know what I'm saying? You know,
- 40:45Speaker 5: and slinging that weight. Y'all going to be listening to like,
- 40:47Speaker 5: we call that cap.
- 40:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:49Speaker 5: All day. So it's the same thing. If you a
- 40:52Speaker 5: gospel artist and you still doing the WAP, you know
- 40:56Speaker 5: what I'm saying? And you still not, you know, like,
- 40:59Speaker 5: like culture's not your thing. Then if you try to
- 41:02Speaker 5: do certain things, it's not going to read.
- 41:05Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 41:06Speaker 5: The same way. See, I am what I am because
- 41:09Speaker 5: I'm very close to Negrodom. You know what I mean?
- 41:14Speaker 5: You know? Like, that's how I was raised. Does that
- 41:18Speaker 5: make sense? You know, like, I was a kid. My
- 41:20Speaker 5: name was Kid Fresh when I was coming up. You know,
- 41:22Speaker 5: I was a breakdancer. I was into hip-hop. You know, like,
- 41:25Speaker 5: I grew up on Michael Jackson, Elton John, and, you know,
- 41:32Speaker 5: Grandmaster Flash. The message, you know, I was listening to
- 41:36Speaker 5: Biggie Smalls on the church parking lot. So that's who
- 41:42Speaker 5: I naturally am. I'm naturally pulled into hip-hop. I'm naturally
- 41:47Speaker 5: pulled into culture. And so we can't say that, okay,
- 41:51Speaker 5: what Kirk is doing, you do. What Kirk's doing, you don't.
- 41:53Speaker 5: Because that won't read for everyone. That's got to be
- 41:56Speaker 5: authentically what they connect to. And so if that doesn't happen,
- 42:01Speaker 5: then what we also got to do is that those
- 42:02Speaker 5: of us that are blessed with the doors... We got
- 42:05Speaker 5: to think of how to open up doors for other
- 42:06Speaker 5: people that are their doors. Their authentic doors.
- 42:10Speaker 1: That's what you're saying.
- 42:10Speaker 5: Yeah, because if it ain't authentic, then we'd have made
- 42:14Speaker 5: a problem. Yeah. And now it look whack. Yeah. You
- 42:17Speaker 5: know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah. And gospel music don't
- 42:20Speaker 5: need nothing.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Because in hip-hop, you can have multiple people do a
- 42:24Speaker 1: couple of things identical. So you're basically saying that ain't
- 42:27Speaker 1: going to work.
- 42:27Speaker 5: That's right.
- 42:28Speaker 2: For everybody.
- 42:28Speaker 1: You have to be authentically yourself in whatever that looks like.
- 42:31Speaker 5: That's right.
- 42:32Speaker 1: That's your truth, and that's the type of music you
- 42:34Speaker 1: have to make.
- 42:34Speaker 5: That's right. And now hip-hop is so broad. Hip-hop need
- 42:37Speaker 5: to do that, too. But it's so broad, though. You
- 42:40Speaker 5: can have a Tyler, the creator. You can have a J. Cole.
- 42:44Speaker 5: You can have a Rod Wave. You can have all
- 42:47Speaker 5: these different. And these are three different communities.
- 42:49Speaker 4: 100%.
- 42:50Speaker 5: And they all work. See, gospel don't have that type
- 42:54Speaker 5: of gravity to be able to do that and it
- 42:57Speaker 5: be self-sustainable. See, Rod cannot ever be on the Grammys,
- 43:01Speaker 5: but he's still going to sell out arenas by himself.
- 43:05Speaker 5: And then, you know, and the rest of black culture
- 43:07Speaker 5: will be going, who's Rod Wave?
- 43:09Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 43:10Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But he done done two nights. Yeah.
- 43:12Speaker 5: He done done two nights. But there are some people,
- 43:19Speaker 5: there are some black folk that don't even know who
- 43:22Speaker 5: he is. You know, so that is the diversity, even
- 43:26Speaker 5: in hip hop now, that in gospel music is still.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Still navigating that.
- 43:31Speaker 5: Still, you know, you know, you know, there's traditional. It's
- 43:33Speaker 5: almost like there's just traditional and contemporary. That's all it
- 43:37Speaker 5: is for the most part. And you're trying to figure
- 43:40Speaker 5: out how to make it work for everybody. And I'm
- 43:42Speaker 5: committed to doing it, though. I mean, I ain't going
- 43:44Speaker 5: to cap. My love, man, is I want to see
- 43:48Speaker 5: everybody at the table. I want to see everybody plate full.
- 43:50Speaker 5: I want to see everybody eating. And I want everybody
- 43:53Speaker 5: talking about, yo, man, they talking about God over there.
- 43:55Speaker 5: Let's go see what they talking about. That's what I want.
- 43:58Speaker 5: That's what I want. I want the culture to be
- 44:00Speaker 5: able to go, yo, man, they still talking about God.
- 44:01Speaker 5: And it's over there lit. The tracks are hot. Production
- 44:05Speaker 5: is hot. Presentation is fire. And, yo, man, they for
- 44:09Speaker 5: real about that life. Like, they about that life over
- 44:12Speaker 5: there about Jesus. And so that is what I want
- 44:14Speaker 5: to do to the day I die.
- 44:16Speaker 1: When you're not doing music, are you being a husband?
- 44:18Speaker 1: Are you enjoying the fruits of your labor? What are
- 44:21Speaker 1: you doing in your downtime?
- 44:23Speaker 5: I try to do everything I can to enjoy the
- 44:25Speaker 5: fruit of my labor, but my greatest love is music.
- 44:27Speaker 1: So you're always doing music?
- 44:29Speaker 5: I'm always struggling with the love of my first love.
- 44:32Speaker 1: What about Miss Franklin? What has she got to say
- 44:35Speaker 1: about that?
- 44:36Speaker 5: You know, she, she, she. She has her good days
- 44:40Speaker 5: and bad days. You know, shout out to Tammy. It's
- 44:47Speaker 5: because she's a beautiful soul. She married a man that
- 44:50Speaker 5: didn't have family. I wasn't raised in a home with family.
- 44:53Speaker 5: I didn't have a mama. I didn't have a daddy.
- 44:55Speaker 5: I didn't have siblings. I was adopted when I was
- 44:58Speaker 5: four by a 64-year-old lady, and she wasn't a nurturing lady,
- 45:01Speaker 5: so I lived a lot of my life alone. I
- 45:04Speaker 5: didn't have a curfew. I didn't have nothing. Again, that generation,
- 45:08Speaker 5: they were not an affirming generation. You know, they ain't
- 45:10Speaker 5: going to be putting you on. You know, I don't
- 45:11Speaker 5: know if you have like a great, great grandmama, but
- 45:13Speaker 5: there's a generation of older people. It wasn't going to
- 45:16Speaker 5: be no affirmations. It wasn't going to be no good job,
- 45:18Speaker 5: you know, loving on you. You know, everybody wasn't like
- 45:20Speaker 5: your grandmama. You know what I'm saying?
- 45:22Speaker 1: Don't start, man.
- 45:23Speaker 5: I got to get the tissue out. But shout out
- 45:26Speaker 5: to that, though. Shout out to, you know what I'm saying? But,
- 45:28Speaker 5: you know, but the problem is everybody wasn't blessed with that.
- 45:30Speaker 5: So even the lady that adopted me was not an affirmer.
- 45:33Speaker 5: You know what that generation was? That generation was if
- 45:36Speaker 5: I put a roof over your head and put it
- 45:38Speaker 5: on your table, that's love.
- 45:39Speaker 1: I love it.
- 45:39Speaker 3: That's love. That's love.
- 45:41Speaker 5: But, you know, sometimes those words, sometimes you need them.
- 45:44Speaker 1: They do something for you.
- 45:46Speaker 3: But that's bare minimum. I feel like when people.
- 45:49Speaker 5: Oh, you mean food on the table and all that?
- 45:50Speaker 3: Yeah, that's bare minimum.
- 45:51Speaker 5: Yeah, facts, facts. Like, that's... Facts.
- 45:53Speaker 3: That's regular.
- 45:53Speaker 1: But that's why you're going to be a really good dad.
- 45:55Speaker 5: Facts, though.
- 45:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:56Speaker 5: But I feel him on that.
- 45:58Speaker 2: I like that.
- 45:58Speaker 5: And that's why I was deficient. So, I was deficient
- 46:01Speaker 5: because I never... Bro, bro, I was like a child
- 46:04Speaker 5: prodigy music... piano playing, like I started playing at four.
- 46:08Speaker 5: Child prodigy. Nobody, I mean, Gertrude, that's the lady that
- 46:12Speaker 5: adopted me, I was a kid that was never told
- 46:14Speaker 5: I was good. Never. Because, again, her age, the generation
- 46:19Speaker 5: I was around, everybody was older and it was not
- 46:21Speaker 5: an affirming generation. I mean, this lady that adopted me,
- 46:25Speaker 5: she was born in 1908. So, you know, think about it.
- 46:27Speaker 5: She's born 1908, bro. 1908, the lady that adopted me.
- 46:29Speaker 5: I was born in 1970. And so the lady that
- 46:36Speaker 5: adopted me, I was four years old. She was 64
- 46:39Speaker 5: years old. And she was a widow. Didn't have no
- 46:41Speaker 5: other kids. Had a fourth grade education. So I lived
- 46:44Speaker 5: a lonely life. But I'm going to tell you my
- 46:48Speaker 5: story real quick. In the front of the house was
- 46:50Speaker 5: a raggedy piano. That was my friend. That was my girlfriend.
- 46:54Speaker 5: That was the love of my life. So music was
- 46:56Speaker 5: the first thing told me I loved her. So that's
- 46:59Speaker 5: all I knew. That's how I met Jesus, through music.
- 47:01Speaker 5: That's how I dealt with my depression, my loneliness, my anxiety,
- 47:05Speaker 5: was through music. So I lived my whole life like that.
- 47:08Speaker 5: And then, boom, I meet a woman who's got seven siblings,
- 47:12Speaker 5: you know, just beautiful, you know, mom and daddy, upper
- 47:15Speaker 5: middle black, you know, family. And, you know, by the
- 47:17Speaker 5: time I got married, I was already Kirk. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 47:21Speaker 5: By the time I got married, I had a gold album,
- 47:23Speaker 5: platinum albums and all of that. You know, I had
- 47:25Speaker 5: my own house, swimming pool, all of that. You know,
- 47:28Speaker 5: so I was already doing this. So it wasn't something
- 47:33Speaker 5: new to her. So she has always had to deal
- 47:37Speaker 5: with this other love in my life. And I try
- 47:40Speaker 5: to be very honest about it. I mean, think about it.
- 47:42Speaker 5: I'm at a restaurant. A song come. You know what
- 47:44Speaker 5: I mean? I'm in the middle of a band. A
- 47:46Speaker 5: song come.
- 47:46Speaker 1: That'd be us about content.
- 47:48Speaker 5: Yeah. You get it.
- 47:49Speaker 1: You get it.
- 47:50Speaker 5: And here's the thing. If I don't get up and
- 47:53Speaker 5: work on that song, Lights don't get paid. You see
- 47:56Speaker 5: what I'm saying? So this other love in your life
- 47:59Speaker 5: is also the love that provides. And you talked about overhead. Boy,
- 48:05Speaker 5: we could talk.
- 48:06Speaker 4: Let me tell you.
- 48:06Speaker 1: Turn that camera.
- 48:09Speaker 5: Turn, turn.
- 48:10Speaker 7: I already know.
- 48:12Speaker 1: I already know.
- 48:15Speaker 5: Turn. Lock the door. Well, Marvin Sapp said close the door.
- 48:19Speaker 5: I already know. Shut the door.
- 48:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:21Speaker 5: So, you know, it's tension. And as gifted young men,
- 48:25Speaker 5: you know, you feel it. There's a tension between your
- 48:29Speaker 5: first love and that human love because that first love
- 48:32Speaker 5: is also what provides.
- 48:34Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 48:34Speaker 5: For those human loves. And I've learned you do the
- 48:38Speaker 5: best you can. And one thing that helps you through it,
- 48:41Speaker 5: always stay honest. Always be honest. And sometimes beat them
- 48:45Speaker 5: to the questions. You know what I'm saying? You know, hey,
- 48:47Speaker 5: I'm having a little rough day today. I got writer's
- 48:49Speaker 5: block and I ain't, you know, I ain't my best today.
- 48:51Speaker 5: So I may not be feeling like he can with
- 48:53Speaker 5: your little friends today. You know what I'm saying? You know,
- 48:55Speaker 5: you know, you know, I don't want to do that.
- 48:56Speaker 1: I'm going to steal that.
- 48:57Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:57Speaker 5: You know, yeah, you know what I'm saying? You know,
- 48:59Speaker 5: I don't want to go double date, you know, I
- 49:00Speaker 5: don't feel like he can. You know what I'm saying?
- 49:02Speaker 5: You know, you know what I'm saying? It's like, I
- 49:05Speaker 5: got this song I'm trying to write this bridge to
- 49:08Speaker 5: and they talking about, you know, you know, you know.
- 49:10Speaker 5: And Jessica's cousin, she didn't want to come up to
- 49:12Speaker 5: the house the other day and have food for the king.
- 49:13Speaker 5: And I told the girl, I don't want to hear that.
- 49:15Speaker 5: I don't want to hear nothing about Jessica. I don't
- 49:16Speaker 5: want to hear nothing about Ray Earl, nothing. It's like,
- 49:18Speaker 5: I'm trying to finish this song. So, all right, the
- 49:21Speaker 5: camera's back on.
- 49:23Speaker 2: So how did you navigate that space without having someone
- 49:27Speaker 2: to tell you you were great? How did you define
- 49:30Speaker 2: your greatness?
- 49:33Speaker 5: Do you have a list of questions?
- 49:35Speaker 2: I do have a list, God.
- 49:40Speaker 3: That's a good question that's a good question her name
- 49:42Speaker 3: is Big Energy Kayla and.
- 49:45Speaker 2: Because there's a lot of men who are in in
- 49:48Speaker 2: women you know but I like I like to pour
- 49:51Speaker 2: into our men because I believe that there's a fellowship
- 49:53Speaker 2: that doesn't happen there and I think that a lot
- 49:56Speaker 2: of men are defeated by the lack of affirmations and
- 49:59Speaker 2: the lack of substantial like you know conversations where people
- 50:02Speaker 2: are telling them like you're as great as you think
- 50:04Speaker 2: you are so what was that burning desire in you
- 50:07Speaker 2: as you talk about being there and sitting with the
- 50:10Speaker 2: piano because you come from someone who probably loved you
- 50:13Speaker 2: more than anything but didn't express it because she wasn't
- 50:15Speaker 2: taught to do that. So how do you not only
- 50:18Speaker 2: define that for yourself but then pass that on to
- 50:21Speaker 2: your children?
- 50:22Speaker 5: Well, you know, what tragedy does for us, it either
- 50:25Speaker 5: makes us better or bitter.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Right?
- 50:28Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying? Talk about it. You two
- 50:31Speaker 5: guys can go through the same thing. but may come
- 50:33Speaker 5: out of it the same, you know, like two different ways.
- 50:35Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying? You may come out of
- 50:36Speaker 5: that same storm. You may come out better. You may
- 50:38Speaker 5: come out bitter, you know? And I think that trauma
- 50:43Speaker 5: made me, especially as a father when my kids were younger,
- 50:45Speaker 5: it made me over-index in wanting to be lovey-dovey. Like,
- 50:49Speaker 5: I'm always kissing on my sons, kissing. They're like, bro,
- 50:53Speaker 5: you got to stop all this kissing. you kiss us
- 50:55Speaker 5: too much, you know? Like, I love kissing my son
- 50:58Speaker 5: because I want them to feel what I didn't feel
- 51:01Speaker 5: from a daddy, you know?
- 51:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 51:02Speaker 5: You know, and it's like you, my daughter's got me wrapped,
- 51:05Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying? My oldest daughter is married,
- 51:08Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying? But I still, you know,
- 51:10Speaker 5: you need some money. Yeah, you know, you know. And
- 51:14Speaker 5: she be like, yeah, go on, go on. You know
- 51:16Speaker 5: what I'm saying? You know, look it, she's the homie,
- 51:18Speaker 5: you know? And I think that, but even with all
- 51:22Speaker 5: of that, I also understand that I will live with
- 51:26Speaker 5: some deficits. There's no way. There's no way. There's no way. Like,
- 51:30Speaker 5: have you seen some athletes, and no matter how much
- 51:33Speaker 5: that leg healed from that break, whatever, they still walk
- 51:35Speaker 5: with just.
- 51:36Speaker 2: Like a little bit.
- 51:36Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying? Like, if that break is
- 51:39Speaker 5: hard enough and tough enough, they will forever live with limbs.
- 51:42Speaker 5: You can't come to the fact not having no mom
- 51:44Speaker 5: and no daddy and having no family and all of
- 51:46Speaker 5: that and just be good. You know what I'm saying?
- 51:49Speaker 5: You're going to always have something that has a little
- 51:51Speaker 5: deficit to it. And I've come to accept it. I've
- 51:54Speaker 5: come to understand it. And I have also seen how
- 51:57Speaker 5: God uses it in the music. A lot of it
- 52:00Speaker 5: is melodies and songs. And it heals me. You know
- 52:04Speaker 5: what I'm saying? I write all my music. I've never
- 52:07Speaker 5: co-written with anyone. You know what I'm saying? All of
- 52:10Speaker 5: the music, I've done my whole life with songs God
- 52:12Speaker 5: has given me.
- 52:12Speaker 4: That's a flex.
- 52:13Speaker 2: Hello.
- 52:14Speaker 1: Big flex.
- 52:15Speaker 2: But it's a hard flex.
- 52:16Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah. It's a God flex because, you know, if
- 52:18Speaker 5: he don't get a song, I'm sitting at my drawers
- 52:20Speaker 5: with one sock on and ain't nothing happening. You know
- 52:23Speaker 5: what I'm saying? So, you know, it is definitely the
- 52:26Speaker 5: grace of God that he's let me borrow these songs,
- 52:28Speaker 5: and I'm very thankful for it.
- 52:30Speaker 3: Your story kind of gives me like Bruce Wayne.
- 52:34Speaker 5: Batman?
- 52:34Speaker 3: Yeah, Batman.
- 52:36Speaker 6: Because of all the things that he experienced as a
- 52:39Speaker 6: child and he still came out to be who he
- 52:42Speaker 6: became to be.
- 52:43Speaker 4: Super hero.
- 52:44Speaker 6: I never would have known that you went through all
- 52:47Speaker 6: this as a kid.
- 52:48Speaker 2: This is why I love him, though. It's his transparency
- 52:52Speaker 2: and the transition.
- 52:53Speaker 1: From- That's why I think you're different than a lot
- 52:56Speaker 1: of the other artists. Like she said, you're very transparent,
- 53:00Speaker 1: and your story is a lot more appealing than someone
- 53:04Speaker 1: else that may have came up in the church and
- 53:06Speaker 1: decided to do music.
- 53:07Speaker 2: See, some people bask more in the testimony than actually
- 53:10Speaker 2: talking about the text.
- 53:11Speaker 5: They do.
- 53:13Speaker 2: And I think that that's why he has always had it.
- 53:17Speaker 2: Even as I think about it, I would never think
- 53:20Speaker 2: that I'm sitting down here and I'm able to ask
- 53:22Speaker 2: you about these questions when there was times where I
- 53:24Speaker 2: cried on the kitchen floor listening to your music so
- 53:26Speaker 2: that I could understand.
- 53:27Speaker 5: Who God was.
- 53:30Speaker 2: But even you, you're sitting at a piano. You could
- 53:32Speaker 2: have never, ever, besides God. knowing that you have so
- 53:37Speaker 2: many millions of people now who are giving you the affirmations,
- 53:40Speaker 2: they're giving you the love, they're giving you the validation
- 53:43Speaker 2: that you at one point in time, you were at
- 53:45Speaker 2: a deficit at. But that's just how God provides, though.
- 53:48Speaker 5: And that is the reason why I'm very cautious and
- 53:51Speaker 5: I encourage my community to be cautious and say, who
- 53:54Speaker 5: can't sing gospel? Who can't do this? Who can't do that?
- 53:57Speaker 5: Because I hope when people see this interview, bro, I'm
- 54:04Speaker 5: at Ball Alert and we done prayed together.
- 54:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:07Speaker 5: We done cried together. You know what I'm saying?
- 54:10Speaker 1: Yeah. All type of stuff done happened.
- 54:11Speaker 5: Like, think about that, man. It's like, Church can happen anywhere.
- 54:15Speaker 2: Anywhere.
- 54:17Speaker 5: Anywhere. It happened today in this interview.
- 54:19Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 54:19Speaker 5: And we didn't compromise. You know what I'm saying? Like,
- 54:21Speaker 5: it ain't like, you know, we was, like, doing it
- 54:23Speaker 5: while we was whoop-de-whoop-de, you know what I'm saying? You
- 54:27Speaker 5: know what I'm saying? Like, you know, like, you know,
- 54:28Speaker 5: you know, you know, my name is God. You know
- 54:30Speaker 5: what I'm saying? It's like, you know, we sitting there
- 54:33Speaker 5: having transparent conversations, and it's like, and he getting the glory.
- 54:36Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying? It ain't all about Kirk.
- 54:39Speaker 5: You know what I mean? We're talking about helping other artists.
- 54:42Speaker 5: We're talking about what we're going through. We're talking about
- 54:43Speaker 5: how to heal black men. We're talking about how to
- 54:45Speaker 5: make sure that Jesus is glorified. I mean, it's like, see,
- 54:48Speaker 5: this is why you can't judge how God move. You
- 54:52Speaker 5: just got to get out of the way and let
- 54:54Speaker 5: him cook. You got to let him cook. And that's
- 54:58Speaker 5: why I'm very grateful to be here doing this.
- 55:00Speaker 2: What'd they say?
- 55:01Speaker 3: Clip?
- 55:01Speaker 1: Yeah, they know. They're wrapping this up. They're wrapping this up.
- 55:04Speaker 1: We got stuff to do. We done turned to the church.
- 55:06Speaker 5: Ron over there like, hey, we got to go.
- 55:08Speaker 6: My bad, Ron.
- 55:08Speaker 1: Yeah, my bad, Ron.
- 55:09Speaker 5: Sorry about that. Sorry about that.
- 55:10Speaker 1: I was crying, Ron.
- 55:11Speaker 3: Hey, this has been one of my favorite interviews.
- 55:13Speaker 2: I'm not going to lie. This has been one of
- 55:15Speaker 2: my favorite interviews.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Normally, it's me crying and Rory was in here being tragic.
- 55:19Speaker 5: You got my co-host in here crying.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Come on, man. It's all about my grandma and my
- 55:23Speaker 1: daughters and my wife. But I love to see that.
- 55:27Speaker 2: I love to see you be able to have that
- 55:28Speaker 2: space to do that because it's like for me, that's
- 55:31Speaker 2: why I do what I do is to create that
- 55:34Speaker 2: space and to have these type of conversations. So to
- 55:37Speaker 2: see God move like that is amazing.
- 55:39Speaker 5: And watch what it does for other young men.
- 55:41Speaker 4: For real.
- 55:42Speaker 5: Watch what it do, man. Watch how it heals because
- 55:46Speaker 5: that liquid from them eyes is healing them. healing on them.
- 55:50Speaker 5: And for all the men that are stopped up emotionally,
- 55:53Speaker 5: they can't get that out. Bro, you don't understand. It's
- 55:57Speaker 5: going somewhere. That anger with your girl, that rage that
- 56:00Speaker 5: you feel is because that fluid, that liquid healing ain't
- 56:04Speaker 5: coming out. And when it don't come out, it's going
- 56:06Speaker 5: to go somewhere. It's going to go somewhere.
- 56:08Speaker 3: The crime rate may go down if more black men cry.
- 56:11Speaker 2: You ain't lying.
- 56:12Speaker 6: Damn.
- 56:13Speaker 2: That's deep.
- 56:14Speaker 3: Damn.
- 56:15Speaker 6: Wow.
- 56:15Speaker 5: Yeah. That's good.
- 56:17Speaker 3: I just had to deliver that message.
- 56:18Speaker 5: That's powerful.
- 56:20Speaker 2: I'm proud of you two boys.
- 56:21Speaker 1: Kirk Franklin, we appreciate you, my brother. You are appreciated.
- 56:26Speaker 1: You are necessary.
- 56:28Speaker 5: Thank you. And sorry, y'all.
- 56:32Speaker 4: Yes.
- 56:32Speaker 3: And the record is out.
- 56:34Speaker 1: The record is out.
- 56:35Speaker 5: October 30th. Oh, yeah. And y'all like the record?
- 56:38Speaker 1: I played it on the radio.
- 56:39Speaker 2: For sure.
- 56:40Speaker 1: I didn't even ask my boss. I told him. I said,
- 56:44Speaker 1: I'm playing this.
- 56:45Speaker 5: Wow.
- 56:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm playing this. But way before they even told
- 56:49Speaker 1: me you was coming to do an interview, I said, nah,
- 56:51Speaker 1: I'm playing this.
- 56:51Speaker 4: This is fire.
- 56:53Speaker 1: And I mixed it with the Jeezy and Shawnee Love.
- 56:56Speaker 5: We hear you.
- 56:57Speaker 2: You know something about to go down.
- 57:01Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 57:02Speaker 3: Hey, that's how I know you love music. Because when
- 57:04Speaker 3: I see you in that video and.
- 57:05Speaker 1: You doing the head bob on the radar, I said.
- 57:08Speaker 3: Yeah, you can tell he love music.
- 57:10Speaker 5: He loves music.
- 57:11Speaker 3: He was turnt up. Now, wait.
- 57:13Speaker 5: Which one? What was that?
- 57:14Speaker 7: Oh.
- 57:15Speaker 5: I'm on the people couch. Yes.
- 57:17Speaker 1: Now, I must say before we go, if you're ever
- 57:20Speaker 1: in an accident, 844-GA-REC.
- 57:23Speaker 2: Okay.
- 57:24Speaker 4: Kirk Franklin, we appreciate you.
- 57:26Speaker 5: I love how y'all just paid the bill. We got to.
- 57:29Speaker 3: We got to.
- 57:30Speaker 1: We got to pay the bill. Keep the lights on.
- 57:32Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
