- 0:00Brought up about Bound Bangor management and fantasy hockey
- 0:03podcast. Woo woo woo woo for Josh.
- 0:08No woo for Josh today he he's off.
- 0:11He's off sulking about how bad the celebrity trade was for him.
- 0:16That's not true. He has such nice hair
- 0:18celebrating not Josh. Josh got good hair too, does
- 0:22have good hair. I was only gonna say we didn't
- 0:25even talk about who's gonna do the drink the Jingle while Josh
- 0:27is out. You just kind of went straight
- 0:29forward and you killed it so. You know what?
- 0:30I started doing the countdown. I was practicing as everyone
- 0:33knows it, trying to make it big in the karaoke scene.
- 0:37But I just missed the podcast too much and I Can't Sing well.
- 0:40So part of it, I think you. Mistake.
- 0:45I've heard you. Say thanks man, Much
- 0:47appreciated. Without further ado, welcome to
- 0:50Bangor Management, the fantasy hockey podcast with Jake Blank
- 0:54and Kevin Blank as Josh. But Josh will be back in a few
- 0:58episodes. Josh's wife saw the bonus
- 1:02episode and she was really upset with his answers, so now he's
- 1:04punished and he couldn't record today, so that's exactly what's
- 1:08happening. I think he's shampooing
- 1:10celebrities hair but that's just my yes.
- 1:13Just doing crazy things to celebrate you right now because
- 1:16we can't talk about on the podcast.
- 1:18It's cause Josh is playing Kevin this week in our league of
- 1:21record and celebrating only has two games.
- 1:23So he's been, he's like, he's amping them up trying to get him
- 1:26to like get the most out of those two games, you know?
- 1:28Yeah, if only Dry Saddle and McDavid didn't combine for like
- 1:3210 games this week against me. It's actually crazy.
- 1:35Like, so I think I've talked about the match that I have with
- 1:38Josh earlier this week. But yeah, we're playing each
- 1:40other in week 15. So as we speak, we have the some
- 1:44of the games behind us already and Josh is already complaining
- 1:47in the group chat, even though we both use a similar model for
- 1:50projections for the weekly. Like I keep tabs on like, you
- 1:52know how my guys are performing, how many games they play in the
- 1:55week. So I can estimate like, OK, like
- 1:57I'm projected to win hits by this amount or lose points by
- 2:00this amount. And like Josh, Josh is supposed
- 2:02to like destroy me this week. Like it McDavid and drive
- 2:06Seattle average like 2 points per game.
- 2:07They both have 5 game weeks. Like it's it's a disaster for
- 2:10me. OK, and Josh little no shame is
- 2:14in the group chat being like, Oh my God, I can't believe like
- 2:17Edmondson just got eight blocks against me or whatever.
- 2:20I'm like, dude, you're gonna beat me my double digit
- 2:22categories this week. Chill on the block stock.
- 2:25Like I think blocks in his are like the only categories
- 2:27actually have a chance to win this week.
- 2:30Yeah, because the audacity to complain about it after after
- 2:33like a Monday. He was complaining in the group
- 2:34chat and then how like Kemper had a bad game of Ladora had a
- 2:38bad game when they play like Tampa and Dallas, like two of
- 2:40the best teams in the league, Like, Oh no, my goalies played
- 2:42poorly, like the odds of the toughest matchups.
- 2:45Anyways, Josh is just gonna complain the whole week and then
- 2:47he's gonna beat me like 2:50 this weekend and I'll be like, I
- 2:51I mean, I don't know. Anyways, he's awfully.
- 2:54Silent when he has those big wins.
- 2:56So it's when there's no complaining going on that that's
- 3:01when you know things are scary. Today is our week 15 news and
- 3:06updates and the famous would you rathers.
- 3:09This is going to be fun. Just us 2 on this.
- 3:11Let's see if you can split the difference between both of us.
- 3:14I feel between the two of us, I might have a chance of splitting
- 3:16the difference a little more. So hopefully I did a good job.
- 3:19But listen, I'll put it out there.
- 3:20I feel like my on the scale of 1 to 10 for would you rather today
- 3:23I'm like out of 7.5. I don't think it's going to be
- 3:26the best week, but trying to not recycle players.

- 6:13and relisten, but we're gonna mention it on all the episodes
- 6:16leading up to the expiry date of the entry, so yeah.
- 6:19Yeah, that that's January 18th, 7:00 PM.
- 6:22That's yeah, you have to 7:00 PM Eastern Time, Yes, important.
- 6:27We got some Australia folks in there because I'm your folks in
- 6:29there. So 7:00 PM Eastern Time on
- 6:31Sunday, January the 18th. Yes, 2026.
- 6:35Well said. 2027 or 2025 I don't know.
- 6:43Let's look how you're listening to this in the bath.
- 6:47If you invest the time, if you have to go back and enter the
- 6:49raffle, it's too late. It doesn't work like that.
- 6:51That's it. Some Back to the Future stuff
- 6:54right there. OK, let's dive into our first
- 6:57news story of the day. The Columbus Blue Jackets fired
- 7:02Dean Evanson and hired Rick Bonus as head coach.
- 7:07Whoa. That's this to me feels like a
- 7:11very IRL type thing. I know that when new coaches
- 7:15come in, they can really reshape things.
- 7:17It doesn't happen overnight. You know, you get used to a new
- 7:19system and new coach is a great coach.
- 7:22I know that the bonus has like a really remarkable career, but
- 7:26every time I think of him, I just think of his disappointed
- 7:29face when his teams lose in the playoffs.
- 7:31But Columbus needs to get to the playoffs.
- 7:33So, you know, I mean, like, listen, it could be, but this is
- 7:38a great team, high flying team and they got a lot of great
- 7:40players. He's had success with The Jets,
- 7:43with the stars and getting the best out of his talent.
- 7:46And that'll translate for fantasy.
- 7:47So I like this and I think it's it's great for all their fantasy
- 7:51assets on the Blue Jackets. And the biggest thing with
- 7:54Columbus right now has been like how they're choking leads in a
- 7:57third period. I think that's the story of
- 7:59their season. I think their playoff team, they
- 8:01have the caliber to be a high flying offence, but they just
- 8:04leak goals and they can't hold a lead.
- 8:06That's pretty much the situation here.
- 8:08I think Rick Bonus has come in to kind of steady the ship.
- 8:10So in terms of fantasy impact, I think, I think listen, Columbus
- 8:14is already like a team that has some fantasy relevant assets.
- 8:17I think everybody gets a bump because the team should be
- 8:20better. And I think the biggest bump
- 8:23will probably come from, you know, the defence and the
- 8:25goaltending. If they're they're leaking less
- 8:27goals, that means they're winning more games.
- 8:29That means, you know, Jet grieves, you know, gets more
- 8:31wins under his belt. Instead of winning 40% of the
- 8:33game, maybe he wins 50 to 60% of the games.
- 8:36Because I really do think that, you know, Columbus made a move.
- 8:38Now it's kind of surprising because they won their last game
- 8:40against Seattle was like a close fought battle where like, OK,
- 8:43like, maybe, you know, ties are turning and then they fired the
- 8:45coach. So it was kind of like, OK, this
- 8:47must have been planned no matter the result, obviously.
- 8:50But I'm I'm as Jed Greens owner, I'm really happy about this
- 8:53because he's been exceptional this year.
- 8:54He's been like a top five goalie in terms of like, you know,
- 8:56quality of play and saves above expected is just a team in front
- 8:59of him hasn't really been playing up to their to their
- 9:01level. And if I have other Columbus
- 9:04assets, I'm I'm happy about this.
- 9:07So we'll see how it goes. Obviously, maybe maybe get goose
- 9:09plays less games Now. That's the main thing because
- 9:11he's been playing like every game, even in the back to backs.
- 9:14Maybe he plays less games and they they do more of a split.
- 9:17But I'm not reading into it until I see with my own eyes.
- 9:20But overall positive, I think for Columbus.
- 9:23And like, I mean, you know, I I was joking when I said I was
- 9:26disappointed face when his teams losing the playoffs.
- 9:28But all kidding aside, like, you know, he coached the stars to
- 9:31the Stanley Cup Final in 2020. That was the COVID year he's
- 9:35brought his teams to the playoffs in most years.
- 9:37So this could be really, really fun for the Blue Jackets.
- 9:40And I agree with you. Maybe he'll get less games, but
- 9:44it means that the they might be more quality starts.
- 9:46So I think net positive you'll be happy as a dead Greeves
- 9:49owner. Alright, so let's get to #2 I'm
- 9:53actually sad Josh is not here to to be like really passionate
- 9:56about this one. This is about one of his
- 9:59players, but Dougie Hamilton was scratched but then put back in
- 10:02the lineup. Is there a trade incoming?
- 10:05He, I think we, we, we're going to save this for the hot topics
- 10:10to dive too much into it, which is on the next episode.
- 10:12But I know he would be pretty pretty heated right now, so.
- 10:16Yeah, I mean, it's it's big news, right?
- 10:18Dougie gets scratched and we're all like, OK, this what does
- 10:22this mean? This is a big deal, right?
- 10:23Like he's one of their premier defensemen on the team.
- 10:25Like he's one of the biggest names.
- 10:27We know that he kind of waved the trade to San San Jose in the
- 10:30offseason. Like they they kind of had a
- 10:32trade deal ready for that. And he said, Nope, I'm not going
- 10:35there. So now I think the situation is
- 10:37even more really given, you know, the performances of New
- 10:40Jersey. So I last I heard the little
- 10:43birdie told me that he's willing to maybe move his note.
- 10:46He's willing to go to a team that's on his no move clause
- 10:50depending on the fit. But I really feel like this is
- 10:53just trade is going to happen. I think New Jersey needs cap
- 10:56flexibility. This is a way for that to
- 10:58happen. And also like they're ready to
- 10:59move on, maybe get some new new juice in the locker room and
- 11:03everything. But poor Dougie.
- 11:04I feel like he's kind of got thrown under the bus here.
- 11:07Like he hasn't really been, he hasn't been the same offensive
- 11:10guy we've talked about. You know, you've heard Josh
- 11:11complain on the podcast for the last two months on how bad
- 11:13Dougie Hamilton is for his fantasy team.
- 11:16I do think that if he gets traded to another situation,
- 11:19like he could be actually like a top 10 defenseman, there's
- 11:21nothing stopping him from being that good again.
- 11:25I think if he gets traded to like, you know, a Toronto Maple
- 11:27Leafs or a San Jose or, you know, I'm trying to think of
- 11:31another destination, but like a team that really needs a power
- 11:33play, one power play, one quarterback, he's going to be
- 11:36like hover around the top ten guy because he still shoots a
- 11:38lot. He's not the best category
- 11:40coverage guy, but like he's a good power play quarterback.
- 11:42He'll get you points and shots and from a defence bin.
- 11:45That's pretty cool. Yeah, all.
- 11:47You know what? Stay tuned for our Hot Topics
- 11:50episode while all dive more into it.
- 11:52But I I'm really on the same page as you for a lot of those.
- 11:55Yeah, let's go to the next one. Sean Monahan returned from
- 11:57injury and took back a spot on line 2 power play.
- 12:00One, as we know, Columbus is going through a lot of changes
- 12:03right now. Their units are kind of all over
- 12:05the place. What do you think about this?
- 12:08I mean, I think Columbus this this was right before the firing
- 12:14and hiring of a Rick bonus. So I think the lines are in a
- 12:18blender right now. I think Monahan with bonus
- 12:21coming in, has the opportunity to have, you know, more
- 12:23responsibility and I think this could be a positive tick for
- 12:25him. But I'm I'm not trying to read
- 12:28into what the lines are going to look like and project.
- 12:30I think bonus will have his own spin on things and and make
- 12:33decisions for him. Like maybe Monaghan comes back
- 12:35to line 1 after this. I think we'll have to wait and
- 12:38see practice lines go and everything like that, but I
- 12:40think it'll be an adjustment to see how everything shakes out.
- 12:42And then once things shake out, we can make an accurate
- 12:45assessment on like what we think the situation is and how to
- 12:47protect these players. But for the moment, I feel like
- 12:49this is probably positive from Monaghan and the fact that he
- 12:52went back to power play 1, even though we saw guys like, you
- 12:54know, Charlie Coyle and and Sillinger beyond power play one,
- 12:57which is like should not be the case.
- 13:00I'm waiting to see how things shake out.
- 13:02Yeah, and, uh, you know, the, the role that he would play here
- 13:07would probably be more net front if he is to stay on the power
- 13:10play 1. You know, he Joe Pavelski played
- 13:13under bonus when they went to the to the finals then in 2020.
- 13:18So to me, like if you already have experience with the player
- 13:22like that, then I think that it could be sort of interesting to
- 13:25see how Monaghan can develop in this way.
- 13:29That being said, still for bangers, like, look, if the
- 13:33whole team gets better, he's a part of this team, you're going
- 13:35to have a prominent role. There's no way Coil or Gaunts
- 13:38are going to take his line to Senator Roll.
- 13:40So I think that I like this. I just think that for the whole
- 13:44team, the coaching change is nice.
- 13:46Then we got Kasperi Kapanen returned from injury and as a
- 13:49three as points in three straight games playing Line 2,
- 13:54no power play. Yeah, he's been a he's been hot
- 13:58off the waiver wire in most Yahoo leagues recently.
- 14:01Yeah, um, I mean, listen, what do you, what do you think?
- 14:04I, I'm, I don't put too much stock into this.
- 14:07If there's no power play 1, even power play 2, like I'm not, I'm
- 14:11not putting too much stock in a guy after three games, but it's
- 14:14certainly worth mentioning. But I don't think it's super
- 14:18fantasy relevant. Yeah, I'm more of an all over
- 14:20Captain Man myself. And who's?
- 14:24Been. I know you are.
- 14:25He has been great. What a pickup for me and our
- 14:28league of record. Kasperi Kapanen's kind of just
- 14:31been doing this whole career where he goes on stretches
- 14:34because I think there was a quote from one of his teams that
- 14:38he previously played on, one of the best players was like, yeah,
- 14:41coping is the fastest player in the league.
- 14:43So when you have the speed, and that's funny because playing
- 14:45with McDavid, right? But when you have the speed and
- 14:48you know you have the ability to be a very good player, but it
- 14:52just comes in waves, like without the deployment, I'm not
- 14:55that encouraged by it. Nothing wrong with playing line
- 14:582 with dry sidle, of course, but dry saddle.
- 15:02I've spoken about this a bit. It's not like Crosby where it's
- 15:04like he's gonna really make the best of like all the players
- 15:07around him. It doesn't always work like
- 15:08that. You have to have be good in your
- 15:10own right to thrive on a line with McDavid or dry subtle.
- 15:13So I'm not reading too much into this.
- 15:15If ever he gets power play 1 it's a different story, but it's
- 15:17impossible. Pretty much so, barring injury.
- 15:20No, I mean, listen, it's only been a few games.
- 15:22Like if you release them into themselves, then I'll be
- 15:24interested. But right now I'm just like,
- 15:25this is just another kind of quote UN quote random name that
- 15:29gets to play the top six that we always like.
- 15:30Oh, we're interested because people make David Drysol never
- 15:33ends up working out. Like they go through hot
- 15:35stretches, then they go really cold.
- 15:36And when they're cold, you don't really want them at all.
- 15:38So and especially with no power play like that already limits
- 15:40the ceiling of the value of the player.
- 15:41So yeah, not the not too hot on this.
- 15:45My advice for transaction would be sell if you can, because I
- 15:48wouldn't be surprised if you get some sort of something out of
- 15:51it. He.
- 15:52Don't think anybody buying this. Very Kapitan.
- 15:54No, but like it's like a sweetener, you know, like the
- 15:56buy low, sell high. We always talk about adding a
- 15:58piece. I would try to add him as a
- 16:00piece if you can in a deep enough league.
- 16:02Before this week he was like 2% roster, now is 19% roster
- 16:05because he just had a hot stretch.
- 16:07But I'm, if you can sell them, sell them like if you were in a,
- 16:11like you said, like the deepest of leagues.
- 16:14But yeah, I can't imagine there's a lot of leagues out
- 16:16there like that. Yeah.
- 16:17I'm not interested in adding off waiver wire and actually got
- 16:20Brad Marshawn is out with an injury on telling Dallas taking
- 16:23his spot on power play 1. So the the Panthers the Panthers
- 16:29are very interesting because you know they're playing with so
- 16:32many injuries yet still kind of getting it done.
- 16:36It's amazing how deep this team. Is, I know, wild?
- 16:41Yeah, I it's disappointing because Marshall's been on a
- 16:45tear all year. We've recommended him as a cell
- 16:48high a few times and like, Yep, that's when he's been playing
- 16:52beyond his averages, how serious the injury is.
- 16:56I mean, it seems like it's kind of day-to-day right now, yeah.
- 16:59Doesn't seem super, super dangerous for like, you know,
- 17:03his long term viability. But I will say like Marshall has
- 17:06been a sell high and I think, you know, Matthew could Chuck is
- 17:09about to come back as well. Like feels like any game now
- 17:11he's about to return. This is a huge bump for Lundell
- 17:14and his value. Like he's gone through stretches
- 17:15where he's been super valuable and other stretches where like
- 17:18you don't really want him on your team.
- 17:19So I think this is great for Lundell.
- 17:22He's exposed to higher quality players for longer periods of
- 17:24time throughout the game. Now is getting power play one
- 17:26time. We'll have to see.
- 17:27Like does Lanell get bumped off as soon as contract comes back
- 17:30or is it somebody else that gets bumped off and then when
- 17:32Marshawn comes back, like how does that shake out?
- 17:34But I think overall this is just like if you have Lindell or is
- 17:37available, I'm more interested right now while he's on power
- 17:39play 1. Then when marching comes back,
- 17:41if he gets bumped off, I'll swap my positions there.
- 17:45But that's pretty much it. And hopefully machines not for
- 17:47too long because he's actually been really viable for fantasy,
- 17:50even though we do believe he's is so high.
- 17:52Yeah, it it's, it's still like encouraging to see that he's
- 17:57he's got the banger cats this year, which is nice.
- 17:59I mean, he's just kind of been playing beyond what we think
- 18:02he's going to do. Obviously to now to sell them,
- 18:05considering he's hurt, yeah. But when he comes back, I still
- 18:08think they're gonna put him on the power play.
- 18:11Yeah, you should be power play one when he's healthy.
- 18:13Yeah, All right. Connor Bedard returned from
- 18:16injury and is back on line one power play one.
- 18:19But now he's day-to-day with an illness.
- 18:21To me, there's not much to say. He's healthy as far as the
- 18:24injury goes. And when he's back, he's back.
- 18:26But I've heard it's a pretty bad stomach bug going around the
- 18:29Chicago Blackhawks. Yeah, it's, it's that kind of
- 18:33sucks. Burakovsky is someone on our
- 18:36waiver wire. Are you interested at all?
- 18:38Just because he was doing really well with bar when they were
- 18:41playing on the same line. And Bertucci's just been fire
- 18:43all year. So, yeah, I mean, that's kind
- 18:45of. Yeah, I mean, yeah, Bertuzzi had
- 18:48a stretch where he was basically droppable and people dropped him
- 18:50where we would like sell high, sell high, sell high, sell high
- 18:52while you can. And then then people waiting for
- 18:55him to go down to 0 before cutting him one bizarre back.
- 18:59This whole team becomes viable in certain ways, right?
- 19:01Like you're playing with one of the best players in the NHL.
- 19:03Like this year was true breakout like that we talked about in the
- 19:06offseason. Like we mentioned him as a
- 19:08breakout candidate. We want to hold ourselves
- 19:10accountable, but we also wanna, you know, talk about the wins
- 19:12that we have. And I think, you know, saying
- 19:14Bidart is has a chance to be a true breakout candidate this
- 19:17year was a big win for us because up to this year, like he
- 19:20had not even gotten close to a point per game.
- 19:22So this year he was one of the best picks in fantasy.
- 19:25And now you all of his wingers are widely available pretty
- 19:29much. And like you said, Burkowski.
- 19:31And if you're in a deeply like our league, you know, we roster
- 19:34almost 300 players and he's still on waivers our league.
- 19:36So you have to be in a similar league for him to be viable.
- 19:40He was really hot before the injury, so if he starts heating
- 19:43up, I'll be interested again. But right now I'm not.
- 19:45I'm not trying to be proactive about it if I have better
- 19:47players, you know? Yeah, sorry.
- 19:49I meant that Bertuzzi was super good when Bedard was there.
- 19:52Then you're right, it went through quite a cold stretch.
- 19:55But Burakovsky was like less of a sure thing during that period.
- 19:59But the fact that they were able to like, I mean, this is the
- 20:02best they've both played in years.
- 20:05So Bidard. Like I'm interested in if you
- 20:09have the space, like I've Full disclosure, thought about
- 20:12picking up Burakovsky. Maybe I will over the next.
- 20:15Few days we're going to compete with the FAB now.
- 20:17That's it really. Have any left but say?
- 20:20We have the least five in our legally we just keep spending
- 20:24money on players nobody else wants.
- 20:25Yeah, that's it. I always like, you know,
- 20:28there's. Something nostalgic spent $20.
- 20:31She loves this year. Like throughout multiple
- 20:33occurrences. Now I have Skinner, who I
- 20:38drafted, who's now on the same team she loves.
- 20:40It's just a mess. Yeah, it's just a mess.
- 20:43But when it's used wisely it could really work out.
- 20:45So I think I also spend 4 on Walstead who gave me many many
- 20:48good weeks and only giving me less good weeks.
- 20:50But yeah, that's drizzled high when you could.
- 20:54I should have thought I should. Hopefully he's listening.
- 20:57He's like, Nah, man, I'm taking that personally.
- 20:59And now I'm just gonna start doing super well again.
- 21:00So do your thing, OK? Jacob Jaker in his day-to-day
- 21:05with an illness. John Carlson taking his spot on
- 21:07Power Play 1. I yeah, I mean, this is pretty
- 21:12much a straight swap. You know, when he comes back, he
- 21:14probably gets that power play 1 back.
- 21:16There were some inklings on some practice reports I saw that like
- 21:19chicken was skating, but it wasn't getting on the power
- 21:21play. So people were like, oh, like
- 21:22the John Carlson Buffalo power play 1.
- 21:24I think it's just he's not ready to play in the game.
- 21:26So they don't want to like they want to usually when the power
- 21:28play lines are practicing, they want the guys are like almost
- 21:31certain to play during the game. So I think it just goes to show
- 21:35that like, he's not ready to come back.
- 21:36He still hurt like, or sick, sorry.
- 21:39And yeah, I I expect this chicken is healthy like you just
- 21:42bump spa bumps off Carlson and same old, same old.
- 21:47Yeah, I think, I think that well, the other part of this is
- 21:50that they got Ethan Frank currently playing power play one
- 21:54there. So I would say, yeah.
- 21:56I mean when he when he has his games, he has his games actually
- 22:00at the game where I think he got a hat trick or scored, he got 4
- 22:04points I believe. That was a crazy yeah, they beat
- 22:07Montreal, they destroyed them and Frank I think was the first
- 22:12star because he was just on an absolute terror.
- 22:14So but he to me is the obvious when chickens back he's getting
- 22:18bumped off situation. So I don't know why they don't
- 22:21put protests there. And don't forget, Tom Wilson is
- 22:24still missing as well. So yes, he's he's also
- 22:27day-to-day and I feel like at any moment as soon as he comes
- 22:30back bumping off somebody from that power place also.
- 22:32Yeah, I mean, they got Leonard Strohm, Franco Ovechkin, Carlson
- 22:36there right now. I think Frank and Carlson are
- 22:38the ones that are gonna go all for Chicken and Wilson when
- 22:41everyones. Healthy.
- 22:42Yeah, most likely. All right, then we got JT Miller
- 22:46returned from injury and bumped off, not Laferriere Lafreniere
- 22:50off power blue one. I wasn't bluff.
- 22:53The the lesser laugh the lesser laugh.
- 22:56Still crazy to think about but anyways.
- 22:58Alright so this is interesting. Also sad Josh is not here to
- 23:03trash JT. You mean it's?
- 23:07Very player. Yeah.
- 23:08I think that. I mean, obviously, like a few
- 23:11days ago while he was hurt, you could have bought him even
- 23:13lower. But to me, I think that this is
- 23:16like a time that I would still be interested because the
- 23:18Rangers are in shambles right now, and they're really not
- 23:20supposed to be bad. I mean, we'll probably get into
- 23:24this at some point, but probably next episode.
- 23:28Talking about Panarin. You may, yeah.
- 23:30I mean, I was just gonna say like these these guys, the
- 23:34Raiders have been bad, but their fantasy assets have kind of been
- 23:36delivering like Paneras at almost 2 points per game over
- 23:39the last month. Like he's been absolutely
- 23:41insane. That Banjo has been insane.
- 23:43JT just came back from injury and he's had like a couple of
- 23:45good games, but just the performances on the ice, we're
- 23:48not going well. They're leaking goals.
- 23:50I feel like you really see the impact that's just working has
- 23:52had on this team while he was healthy.
- 23:54And I mean, that's the next point.
- 23:55So we can just talk about it now as well.
- 23:56It's just there can still week to week.
- 23:57And Jonathan Quick is is, you know, order and in his absence
- 24:02and quick has not been great like he's been.
- 24:04If you're the Chester and you picked up Quick and you're
- 24:06hoping that you were getting similar results, it's not the
- 24:08case at all. I think the Rangers are just an
- 24:11average team right now when they're leaking goals and quick
- 24:13is not the same guy. Like you can only do so much,
- 24:15right? If you're putting bad situations
- 24:16or put in bad situations. From the games that I've seen,
- 24:18he's actually look like he plays well.
- 24:20This is just like he's the team's not doing him any favors
- 24:23in front of him. So that situation, but JT being
- 24:26back, I feel like just goes back to status quo on the power play.
- 24:28Like laugh has been a severe disappointment this year.
- 24:31Like, you know, we're holding ourselves accountable.
- 24:33We thought that he would be a, you know, a breakout power
- 24:35forward candidate, right? Like, you know, no more critter.
- 24:38He was the guy that could step up and they're they're even
- 24:41preferred like Will Cooley at times over him.
- 24:43So it just goes to show like the falloff is kind of here and feel
- 24:46like lost future in in New York is just not cemented at all,
- 24:50even though they just paid him. And like you said, Panarin 2.
- 24:53We don't know what's happening there with the contract.
- 24:55Yeah, and I mean fox. Fox.
- 24:58Is this in the next? Point Fox is on.
- 25:01LTIR So then you got Gavrilov and displays on PowerPoint One.
- 25:04He's not a power play 1 defenseman.
- 25:05He's a good player, but he's not, he should not be
- 25:09quarterback in this power place. So I mean, to me, I still
- 25:13believe that JT could be better than he has been this year.
- 25:18So I mean, do you think you could buy still or is the owner
- 25:21just like I held them this long? I'm gonna hold until.
- 25:25I'd try to buy because if you're in a bangers league
- 25:27specifically, especially when would face off like bangers
- 25:29league, I'm interested. Face off leagues I'm even more
- 25:31interested because he gets face off wins from the right wing
- 25:34position. But he has some good category
- 25:36coverage to him and I think the points are going to be there
- 25:38more than they were earlier in the season when he was like, I'm
- 25:41even more massive by law is just have to temper your expectations
- 25:46or temper your expectations when the to the right.
- 25:49I don't know. I think both now I forget which
- 25:51one I got corrected and now I forget which one supposed to
- 25:53say. But the temper, temper your
- 25:55expectations with the Rangers in general, I feel like the stars,
- 25:59the studs are always gonna be producing.
- 26:00But you know, the JT is like, I feel like once you're slightly
- 26:04below, but he has so much value in terms of it cause category
- 26:07coverage and the readers have an exceptional playoff schedule for
- 26:09weeks are playoff weeks 21 to 23.
- 26:12So always targeting those guys at the right price.
- 26:15And yeah, I mean, listen, anybody on PowerPoint 1 here
- 26:18interested in SO? In the three games he's played
- 26:21since he got back, he's done exceptionally well in the Bangor
- 26:24Cats. He's got 2 points in those three
- 26:26games, but the Rangers have lost five to 10/2 and 4/2 so that.
- 26:31Is good. That is rough.
- 26:35So, I mean, I don't know, I still think that.
- 26:37I still think JJ's a buy. I'd love to have him on my team,
- 26:40but not paying first round price for him.
- 26:42But if you can somehow buy low, it's yeah, it's a great
- 26:45opportunity. Evgeni Malkin returned from
- 26:48injury and bumped Anthony Mantha from power Play 1.
- 26:52Not surprising at all. I feel like this was kind of
- 26:54written in the stars as soon as we recommended Manta a few weeks
- 26:58ago when Malcolm was first heard, and we knew it week to
- 27:00week. But we always knew that as
- 27:02Malcolm was healthy, he was just gonna slap back on the Power
- 27:03Play. 1. I don't know if we're talking
- 27:07about this. Well, might as well Josh Manson
- 27:09it later, but tied with Pittsburgh.
- 27:11Eric Carlson was put on IR and earlier today as we record this.
- 27:17So I think that that was a surprise.
- 27:20I mean, Eric Carlson, owner, I don't know what happened there.
- 27:23The the nature of the injury is still ambiguous, but he's
- 27:27missing at least multiple weeks and the Malkin back on power
- 27:31play 1 is great for his value. We still think the market is not
- 27:35a guy that you want on your team long term because he's just not
- 27:38the same guy that he was. We've seen him be like really
- 27:39good with him really, really bad.
- 27:41If you can trade him at like the really good value for somebody
- 27:44that's more consistent. Would love to do that for Eric
- 27:46Carlson. You know, you pick up
- 27:47Christopher Letang. I think that's that's the move
- 27:49here. Letang has been on the ice in
- 27:52the NHL. He hasn't had his best season.
- 27:54He's been kind of like a average to below average defenseman and
- 27:57for fantasy, he's been kind of like a streamer guy on certain
- 28:00weeks because he does not properly won.
- 28:02But now that he has power play, he's a bigger, he's a better
- 28:05banger category guy than Carlson.
- 28:07So maybe you're getting a little bit of both worlds where a guy
- 28:11that will get you a little bit more hits and blocks and shots,
- 28:13not shots, but hits and blocks and some power play.
- 28:16One upside. But yeah, I'm crossing owner.
- 28:19I'm planning on picking up Letang as a straight swap.
- 28:21And then when Carlson's back, I'm just going to drop further
- 28:24Tang. So we'll see.
- 28:26You're going to have to compete against me with Fab.
- 28:28OK, no, it actually isn't my name.
- 28:34It's a fantastic pickup, though, all kidding aside, like, he's
- 28:38been really like, reliable for blocks this year, and in
- 28:42Pittsburgh's heyday he was their power play.
- 28:44One guy, sure. He.
- 28:45Doesn't have older, no. Yeah.
- 28:47And we're not expecting that to be a resurgence, but he can play
- 28:52with these guys and do well. So I would definitely pick him
- 28:57up. Joel Erickson Eck is day-to-day
- 29:00with a lower body injury. Ryan Hartman is taking his spot
- 29:03on power play one. A lot of either came back from
- 29:06injury bumped off power play one or injured new guy on power play
- 29:10one. That seems to be the theme of
- 29:12this week's news. Episode Everybody's paying the
- 29:15up. But yeah, Joel Ericsson, Ek
- 29:17Jake, if you will, the day-to-day.
- 29:21So listen, I'm not expecting a really long absence here, but
- 29:25Hartman in your deeper leagues, if you power play one, he's
- 29:28worth a look. He's had stretches of good
- 29:31production in the past, but he's playing in the top 6.
- 29:33And when he's on power play one because you're just exposed to
- 29:36some top quality talent there. So if you have Ericsson and
- 29:39you're looking for like a straight swap replacement, I
- 29:41would pick apartment. And then as with Ericsson X
- 29:43back, you just cut them and you know, get back here guy, because
- 29:45Eric is still one of the best banger pure seeds out there.
- 29:49He has had stretches of, you know, good and bad, but I think
- 29:53I, I would love to have him on my roster.
- 29:55So if you have him, don't, don't fret too much.
- 29:57Yeah, he's the only centre on this team for years that's been
- 30:00a reliable. Own.
- 30:02Yeah. Right, like Hartman, it comes
- 30:03and goes. You're obvious thing would be
- 30:05amazing because he's playing with increase of yeah, yeah,
- 30:09he's got a lot of time. But yeah, anyway, it seems like
- 30:12Hartman's the guy to replace him in the interim, Seth Jarvis
- 30:15returned from injury and bumped Jackson Blake off power play 1.
- 30:19Not to mention the fact that Jarvis has been crazy for
- 30:24bangers since he's gone like came back like the best by far
- 30:28that he's done all year. You know, he's played a few
- 30:31games and it's 424 two hits and then 6315 shots and Shorty in
- 30:37that period he's been a monster. So I mean, I think the you saw
- 30:42his quote with the Team Canada with the bleep sandwich or
- 30:46something. Yeah.
- 30:48So I really think that he took it extremely personally and now
- 30:53he's just he's just balling out. And I don't expect him to
- 30:58average like three hits a game for the rest of the season.
- 31:01But we see this sometimes when guys are out of line, when they
- 31:03come back, they come back with a vengeance.
- 31:05But yeah, he's been a guy that's like had some shots and hits to
- 31:07him the whole year. Like he's a 1.5 kind of hits
- 31:10ish, like 1 slightly over 1, which is not nothing if you're
- 31:13playing in a categories league. And then he gets like between
- 31:16two to three shots, which is really great.
- 31:18And drivers is just a phenomenal player.
- 31:19He might arguably be the best player on this Carolina
- 31:22Hurricanes team. Like that's I don't let the hot
- 31:24take because I know people love Sebastian Aho, but Jarvis,
- 31:27Jarvis is my boy. And the poor Jackson Blake, if
- 31:30you held him or streamed him while, you know, he had power,
- 31:33play one that rain is over and you know, I don't feel bad about
- 31:37cutting him at this point. No, I had to cut him a few weeks
- 31:41back because it was just up and that was even like before the
- 31:43Jarvis injury. It's like, you know, it'll have
- 31:45like a nice game and they get picked up in a bunch of leagues
- 31:48and then like you go to you see he's one of the most added
- 31:51players and then get a notification if you own and
- 31:53dropped in 500 leagues the next day.
- 31:54I'm like alright. Had a week where they had like 5
- 31:58games so people, a lot of people picked up like Carolina
- 32:00Hurricanes players and he was just one of those guys.
- 32:02Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I'm, I'm excited.
- 32:05Hopefully Jarvis keeps up the the double double over there.
- 32:08Yep. Jason Zucker, another one of my
- 32:10players, returned from injury and bumped Zach Benson off
- 32:13power. Play 1.
- 32:15Not surprising, but we know Zuckers Zucker is almost like a
- 32:18power play merchant. Like he's we've talked about him
- 32:20on the podcast before. Like he's a little bit
- 32:22inconsistent, especially this year compared to last year.
- 32:24But you'll get games where he has like 2 points.
- 32:27They're both power play points, four shots that hit and you'll
- 32:29get games where you have straight zeros and you kind of
- 32:31don't know what to expect on the average ends up being like
- 32:34pretty good. So I in deeper leagues, I really
- 32:37like Jason Zucker as a pic because he's one of those guys
- 32:39like on power play one for you know, like average power play,
- 32:43but one of those guys that is widely available.
- 32:46You're getting power play exposure.
- 32:48And Zach Benson, I feel like he's had his chance early in the
- 32:50season. He was really successful.
- 32:52Like when he first came back from injury to start the year, I
- 32:54think you had like points and like he was a point per game for
- 32:57like a month or like 2-3 weeks and then he got hurt again and
- 33:00has not been the same. So I don't think he's valuable
- 33:04at all anymore. But Zucker I like.
- 33:06Yep, nice. It's not a Borat reference.
- 33:09I like look up your eyes more please.
- 33:19They were the first ones to ever imitate Borat.
- 33:23It's very nice, alright. Troy Terry day-to-day with an
- 33:28upper body injury. He had already been bumped off
- 33:31power play 1 before the injury. Yeah, Anaheim was kind of like
- 33:35doing things with their lines. Like we saw even Gotta have time
- 33:38on power play to like they gone through a really rough stretch.
- 33:41We talked about them on our Hot Topics episode recently where we
- 33:44were just like, what do we think about Anaheim?
- 33:46Like are they the team that they were earlier in the season, data
- 33:48team that they were? Now the answer is always
- 33:51somewhere in the middle. So I don't think they're his
- 33:54feelings before, but I feel like they are going to try to turn it
- 33:56around in the near future. And Troy Terry coming back
- 33:59definitely helps his team. I think he's a top six player on
- 34:03this team and power play 1. So I feel that's where he ends
- 34:06up. As we record this, you know
- 34:07there's a game tonight, so you guys will be here in just the
- 34:10following morning and he's a game time decision.
- 34:13So we'll see if he ends up playing.
- 34:14But as you hear this, he might be ready for the next game,
- 34:17right? So not worried about that style
- 34:19IR plus. And then if he ends up playing,
- 34:21you could cut somebody to activate them.
- 34:22If you need help to see who you're going to cut to activate
- 34:24them, ask us in the discord. Always happy to answer those
- 34:27questions. But yeah, Troy Terry also Josh
- 34:30highlighted as like a major bylo candidate because he's a guy
- 34:32that has like some shot volume, some points upside.
- 34:35Leo Carlson too, his massive bio.
- 34:37We talked about it before. Like he's not gonna be the best
- 34:39player in fantasy like he was for like feel like a month
- 34:42earlier this season. But still a valuable centre so.
- 34:46Yeah, they they've, they've been a bleep sound, which possibly.
- 34:50Probably they've been bad. The same the same bleep sound as
- 34:53Sept Orvis was referring to yes, like 1-8 and one over there last
- 34:5810 before the game tonight. So I mean, yeah, real, real not
- 35:02good over there, real not. Good.
- 35:05Real not good. OK Anze Kopitar is on IR with a
- 35:10lower body injury. Alex Laferriere.
- 35:12The superior laugh is line 1C while he's out.
- 35:16Unexpected. Has he played?
- 35:18I don't think he's usually a yeah.
- 35:21I don't think he's usually a centre.
- 35:23That's kind of the thing they've been using him there and the one
- 35:26episode you missed earlier, Jake, Josh and I really went in
- 35:29on this, but like he's been like a double triple.
- 35:31So like three shots, three hits recently and getting some face
- 35:34off wins too. Like his category coverage has
- 35:36actually for some reason super under the radar, it feels like,
- 35:39but it's getting massive deployment right now.
- 35:41So I'm really interested in life every year and I have them in
- 35:44one league that I play with other hockey hockey fantasy
- 35:47experts and I've been holding him like so I I think he's very
- 35:50valuable while especially while Kopitar is out because he's
- 35:53getting to play with better players.
- 35:55The kings obviously are Tina does not score many goals and
- 35:58they have trouble scoring goals. But when somebody with this
- 36:01deployment and exposure to the power play like it's it's a good
- 36:06situation and I'm interested in life area, especially if you're
- 36:08in a bangers league, like we obviously bang your management.
- 36:11We prefer bangers league, but we try to give you guys information
- 36:13for point sticks and every kind of league.
- 36:15But for bangers leagues, he's been insane.
- 36:17He's probably rostered, but if he's not, take a look at your
- 36:19way or. Yeah, this.
- 36:22These stats are like a cherry from four years ago.
- 36:25By I know like like top six deployment.
- 36:28We're top 6 deployment and better shots.
- 36:31I mean, this is actually a bangers dream, at least for the
- 36:36time being. Because, and you know, the, the
- 36:39most impressive thing to me is that he's able to keep this up
- 36:41with the faceoffs too. And I say that because, like,
- 36:44when you're playing winger, which is what he's been playing
- 36:46his whole NHL career, you're used to a certain style of play.
- 36:49And to be able to keep up the banger that's while also playing
- 36:52centre, it's really, really encouraging for his.
- 36:55Yeah, in Bangor leagues. That's awesome.
- 36:57He might get facility that would be really cool for him.
- 37:00Yeah, I mean like the golden ticket is to have the face offs
- 37:05from the winger, so he's already got that.
- 37:06But yeah I mean just to be able to slow his centre 2 would be
- 37:09nice. Thatcher Demko on IR with lower
- 37:12body injury. Kevin Lankinen is the starter in
- 37:16his absence. It doesn't really matter who
- 37:18plays because Vancouver sucks. No offence.
- 37:20They are really not good and it just feels like, I mean, yeah,
- 37:25if they I almost feel like one thing I just kind of want to
- 37:29take take from this is we we spoke about key for Sherwood as
- 37:32a sell high on our recent buy low sell high episode.
- 37:35Do you think if you're a team that you have like a lot of
- 37:38negotiating power with them? You know what I mean?
- 37:41It's it's like, sorry, do you think they have a lot of
- 37:44negotiating power with you? It's like, no, I only want a
- 37:46first round pick. It's like, alright, well, enjoy
- 37:49doing whatever you guys are doing.
- 37:51It's just, it's just horrible. Like they've been really bad.
- 37:53It's, it's tough to be a Vancouver fan right now.
- 37:56Honestly, I, if we have any Vancouver fans listening to
- 37:59this, I'm, I'm really sorry. I feel that we've been there as
- 38:02I have as a big time fans. But in recent years, like we
- 38:06knew when the new regime has been kind of very optimistic.
- 38:09Even when we were bad, we felt we were taking strides forward.
- 38:12I feel like Vancouver is just like always in the middle
- 38:14ground. They never committed to rebuild
- 38:16and they're never like competing.
- 38:18There wasn't that middle ground, but like on the lower end of it.
- 38:20So it's just been really bad in terms of, of this.
- 38:23We can also throw in the Sherwood injury in there as well
- 38:25because I think he's just kind of like we're gonna trade you so
- 38:29we don't want you to be on the ice.
- 38:31So the bad timing with my cell high recommendation.
- 38:34But if you can still sell them, absolutely try to.
- 38:37I think now with the time, like your window for doing that is
- 38:39probably closing as we speak. And Demco, I mean, the best sell
- 38:44high we might have had this season was when I mentioned
- 38:46Demco think a month ago when he just came back from a previous
- 38:50injury, had played like four or five games.
- 38:52That was like one of the best goalies in the league.
- 38:55And if you were able to sell them right after we made that
- 38:56episode where we said like, get him off your roster ASAP, you're
- 39:00probably really happy right now. If that didn't happen and you
- 39:03know, you're still holding the bag, they said that they might
- 39:06shut him down for the year. Like there's a potential
- 39:09possibility that he doesn't plan on the game this season, which
- 39:12would be devastating. Once again for, you know, Demco
- 39:14owners and just the Canucks in general.
- 39:15I feel like this guy, his career is completely like went off the
- 39:19rails due to injury and what's what's their incentive to play
- 39:23him right now? Like they they just want a
- 39:24better pick. So why would they rush their
- 39:26goddess already a little bit hurt.
- 39:28Just rehab for the season. Let us get a better pick and
- 39:32then next year we come back and try again.
- 39:34So if you need a starter, I think Lincoln is a guy that you
- 39:37can expect a lot of volume from. But like is the quality gonna be
- 39:41there now? It's completely match up
- 39:42dependent in my opinion. So yeah, yeah, it's.
- 39:48I mean, even that like, they they can lose to anybody.
- 39:51Yeah. So it's it's tough.
- 39:53And like Anon has been serviceable as a starter, but
- 39:55they're not the same team as they were last year.
- 39:57Like they got rid of Queen Hughes and JT Miller.
- 39:59There are two. I know it wasn't tumultuous
- 40:01locker room situation, but still.
- 40:03I mean, it's tough to even stream.
- 40:05All right, on to some good news. Ali actually pulled us back from
- 40:09injury. Jakey rejoices.
- 40:10Yes, yes, I do. The best juice.
- 40:14You keep it all day. He is the man he is.
- 40:19I mean, I don't wanna I think Hagel on the on the scale of
- 40:22who's more snubbed as not getting power, play one.
- 40:28Like I think Hagel's higher on that list.
- 40:31But like produce is good man. Can we finally admit that he's a
- 40:35good player? Yes.
- 40:35He's had straight zero. Well, not straight zeros.
- 40:37He's had a few shots since he got back from injury, but before
- 40:40that he was on an absolute tear. So.
- 40:43He'll go through stretches, but at the end of the day he's a .75
- 40:47points per game player with two shots and nothing else, and if
- 40:49you want that on your roster, Congrats.
- 40:51If you don't, then you probably have a better player on your
- 40:54roster. I am still so excited to see who
- 40:57is seasoned with more points between him and Dorothea VI am
- 41:00just. Like I think you're right now,
- 41:03sorry, get infinite percent more power play points.
- 41:06He's been nuts. I don't know if you've seen, but
- 41:09he's also susceptible to getting like line 4 deployment at random
- 41:12points because the coaches special, but whatever is in the
- 41:16top 6 and on power play one, which is always the case for the
- 41:19power play one, he's still he's just like mental.
- 41:21Yeah, just saying right now Dora fave is 33 points and Proteus is
- 41:2631, so it's pretty darn close. How many?
- 41:28Points does Dorothy have have? That's 19 to yeah.
- 41:34So just saying. But that was not the beer bet.
- 41:39So it wasn't. I got beer about you that more
- 41:45power play points. But yeah, I'll take that.
- 41:51William Neal and a return from injury and bump John Tavares off
- 41:54power play 1. I think they should probably
- 41:57both be there. That's just me, but they had a
- 42:00pretty insane win last night so. I think Matthews goal was pretty
- 42:05nuts for the toe drag and everything like that.
- 42:09Was nice to see as a new Matthews owner.
- 42:11Right, Tricky. Yes, yes, it was.
- 42:13And it's like honestly, like I hate to do this, but like, well,
- 42:18first of all, I just want to also just before get into my
- 42:22personal vendetta situation because I did trade celebrity
- 42:24for Matthews and that's been a little bit tough.
- 42:27There was a little more to the trade.
- 42:28I also got Sutherland and I gave it all away.
- 42:30But anyway, so the fact that they, I think I heard the
- 42:35announcer say that going into the second period, Colorado
- 42:38didn't have a regulation, lost the entire season.
- 42:41And the fact that the Leafs were able to win, that is something
- 42:45like that's like a big, big accomplishment for a team.
- 42:48That. Yeah, and for a team that has
- 42:50been found it out all year, I mean, obviously they had a lot
- 42:53to figure out with Marner, but even past that, like people were
- 42:55just trashing on them like crazy.
- 42:57I'm really kind of excited to see like I still have them out
- 43:01of the playoffs from the beginning of the season and I
- 43:05still don't think there are by any means a sure thing to make
- 43:07it this year. But even even at that, I like it
- 43:10better because they'll be battling till the very end.
- 43:12So back to my thing. I traded away celebrity.
- 43:16So every day, like halfway through the game, I'm looking up
- 43:19my right celebrities got no points.
- 43:21This is good. I'm feeling good at the end the
- 43:22game with three points, five shots, at least 10 face offs.
- 43:26Like what have I done? So last games already played, he
- 43:29didn't get a point and Matthews just got too.
- 43:32Last night. I had a really good game, a lot
- 43:33of face off. So you gotta hit a decent like
- 43:36he got two shots, I think. But still, I was so happy.
- 43:39It was a nice goal too. So yeah, that was like a nice
- 43:43sigh of relief. Temporary sigh, unfortunately,
- 43:45but yeah. You gotta take your wins when
- 43:48you can. When you trade it away
- 43:50celebrity, um, but yeah, I mean all all this also like circling
- 43:56back to the power play, John Tavares getting bumped off power
- 43:58play 1. It's a pretty big deal for John
- 44:00Tavares's value. Do I think this is going to
- 44:02stick? Absolutely not.
- 44:03Think their best power play is the power play with John Tavares
- 44:06on power play 1 is just the kind of mixing things up right now.
- 44:09Leonardo really hot when he came back.
- 44:11He was a massive by low earlier. Like we highlighted him several
- 44:14times. We said like, guys, listen, if
- 44:16you have an opportunity to buy like a second round value player
- 44:19for way cheaper. He was awful for so long.
- 44:22He comes back, he's played two games.
- 44:23He has five points. So he's kind of been on fire.
- 44:26And if you bought low, you're really happy to turn around may
- 44:29be upon us. And for Tavares, if you're
- 44:32holding, don't don't try to sell them on pennies for the dollar
- 44:35right now. When somebody tells you like
- 44:37always on P2, let me buy them. Just hold.
- 44:39And I think he gets back to P1 in the near future.
- 44:42So and Toronto, gun to my head, my life is on the line.
- 44:46I'm not betting for them. I'm not betting on them making
- 44:48the playoffs. But listen, they're gonna try.
- 44:51They're team that they can't tank the IT would not be
- 44:54acceptable in this organization. Even if they don't make the
- 44:56players, I think almost everybody's getting fired.
- 44:59That would be a huge, huge L. So listen, not impossible.
- 45:02But if they do make the playoffs, maybe it won't be here
- 45:05next year. Taking my metaphor to the
- 45:09extreme. In other words, he doesn't think
- 45:13Toronto is gonna make the playoffs.
- 45:15You don't have to put that much on the line.
- 45:16Like it's cool. No, no, you're forcing me.
- 45:20You're holding up the street. You could just simply say what
- 45:26he thinks gonna happen. It's all the same.
- 45:30Ohhhhh, man, I I just I just also want to add to this that
- 45:35one of the reasons for their success is a team.
- 45:37I mean, like Nielander coming back, the fact that the fact is
- 45:40like he's been also pretty wishy washy all year.
- 45:44So hopefully that he can be decent for the Leafs.
- 45:46And we're saying this house fan. So we're just saying like this
- 45:50is this is committed to the fantasy perspective.
- 45:54But they've got some pretty good depth pieces and Cowan's been
- 45:58pretty decent and Robertson's been pretty good.
- 46:00I wouldn't say I love them for fantasy by any means, but I
- 46:03picked up Robertson and unfortunately got hurt, but he
- 46:06was actually almost a point per game and decent Shaws hits.
- 46:09So keep an eye on that because when a team's not scoring,
- 46:13things are not going to really look good for the secondary
- 46:17players for fantasy. But now that the Leafs have
- 46:19stepped it up, like I would say watchlist Robertson, when he
- 46:22comes back, maybe you'll pick him up.
- 46:24And Cowan's actually been pretty solid.
- 46:25So just saying, keep an eye on those names.
- 46:30Shea Theodore returned from injury.
- 46:32Still no power play won, though. Yeah, I mean, this is this might
- 46:36be the least impactful news because we're like Theodore was
- 46:39drafted as a guide to be on the Vegas power play, which is a
- 46:43massive power play to be on. But it felt like after like a
- 46:46few weeks into the season, he got bumped off and never got it
- 46:49back besides injury. So now he's healthy.
- 46:52If he's on your waiver wire, I'm not super interested unless he's
- 46:54getting that power play 1 deployment, which is not the
- 46:56case. So you monitor the situation if
- 46:58you ever gets it. We'll mention it here on the
- 46:59podcast, the discord, but until then, like, he's not a guy that
- 47:02I want on my roster. Yeah, I mean, Marner has had
- 47:07years of playing, you know, very good defence as a forward.
- 47:12And he's the one like I know that, you know, when you play a
- 47:15power play there, you want offence, but you also need to
- 47:18make sure that if something goes wrong, you have a guy chasing
- 47:22back and able to play defence. And Marner is able to do that.
- 47:26He has done it in the past. So I'm not surprised that if
- 47:30they keep rolling with this. Yep, the five forwards.
- 47:33All right, then we have Carter Hart is week to week with a
- 47:38lower body injury. Akira Schmid is the starter
- 47:41until he or Hill returns. Until Heart or Hill returns.
- 47:45To clarify, I mean, it, it was even like he wasn't that good
- 47:51Heart before the injury. Do you think that if Schmid does
- 47:54super well, which I don't think he will, but do you think if he
- 47:57does that he can actually cement himself as the starter?
- 47:59Because I feel like none of these guys are.
- 48:01Hill is the best chance to be their guy, given the fact that
- 48:05Heart kind of hasn't been really good with the opportunity he's
- 48:08had. Do you think that there's a
- 48:10chance though, that Schmid can even just solidify himself as
- 48:12the starter? Is this an opportunity for that?
- 48:15I mean, for me, I think he was the starter and as a record this
- 48:19like they said that he'll may play next week.
- 48:23So I I think Hill is like literally on the cusp of
- 48:27returning. And if he's on your waiver wire
- 48:29like he is in a lot of leagues, I'm very interested in picking
- 48:32it up because I think he's significantly better than both
- 48:35Schmid and Heart. And it would be the goalie, the
- 48:37main goalie on a Vegas team that is a Stanley Cup contender.
- 48:40So that means we're gonna be getting a lot of wins.
- 48:42Maybe the quality won't be like exceptional, but isn't above
- 48:45average goalie in terms of like qualities stats.
- 48:48So if he's on your waiver wire, really interested in that.
- 48:51If he's, you know, on a team that's in the bottom of the
- 48:53standings, I'd be interested to buy low like right now before
- 48:56because there is not going to give you a big heads up on like
- 48:58when he's coming back. It'll be like I even saw this
- 49:01news and passing earlier today. Like I was, you know, scrolling
- 49:03on Twitter for my hockey news, you know, keeping up to date on
- 49:06everything. And I saw like they said, like
- 49:07he might back up in a few games or something like next game.
- 49:11So OK, it's gonna back up. That means he's really close to
- 49:13starting. So is it a full full starters
- 49:17workload when he's healthy? I don't know, but until that
- 49:19moment, all you have is Schmidt as a starter and very interested
- 49:22in having him on my roster to to, you know, be the starter for
- 49:26Vegas. And I think you can get decent
- 49:28quality from him hard. Just does not seem that like
- 49:31that's the guy for for them. And even when when he was back
- 49:35and then the heart is healthy. Like, who's gonna be the backup
- 49:37between him and Schmid? I think right now Schmid has the
- 49:41edge. But like, who knows?
- 49:44Yeah, so there there's a chance you're saying that heart would
- 49:47come back before Hill comes back.
- 49:49No, I think he'll, I think from what my understanding is an
- 49:51injury timelines, I think he's gonna come back before heart.
- 49:54So that way when he'll comes back, she will be the backup and
- 49:57then the heart is healthy. Who's the backup?
- 49:58Is that Schmid or is it heart? I think honestly, it's so
- 50:03ambiguous, I don't even want to put my stamp of approval on
- 50:05either of them. But I think the the main the
- 50:07main thing is that he's going to be the main diet like the one at
- 50:10least and probably start like 55 to 60% of the games and then at
- 50:14least and then we'll see from there.
- 50:16But you know, he's he'll has been kind of squishy as well.
- 50:19So by banking on his health for the rest of the year, I don't
- 50:23know, even this injury was way more significant that came out
- 50:25of nowhere. So.
- 50:27Yeah, I think he's the only one that you kind of want to own.
- 50:31Basically at this point, yeah. Which is crazy because Vegas is
- 50:33such a good team. Yeah, Yeah, it is.
- 50:36OK. We got Simone Nemeth returned
- 50:39from injury, bumped Luke use off power play one, but then he got
- 50:42scratched. Yeah.
- 50:43So this is just weird. I mean, I think that Dougie's
- 50:48probably the first defenseman on the way out.
- 50:50That's who they would want to trade, but not much.
- 50:52Could actually be a really good player.
- 50:54Like for the NHL. I don't know if he's he hasn't
- 50:56cemented himself as an amazing offensive defenseman or
- 50:59defensive defenseman yet, but there's a lot of promise with
- 51:01him. So it's tough.
- 51:03I mean like in a dynasty league it's great and redraw league.
- 51:06I have no interest in owning him.
- 51:07Yeah, I mean, we're talking we're talking to redraft right
- 51:10now and for this year, like in most leagues, images not roster
- 51:13able and the fact that like, you know, you got you got power play
- 51:16one for like a game and they got scratched.
- 51:18I looked at the coach and the coach said that they really
- 51:21like, you know, COVID Chavez came back and they really liked
- 51:24his place. They wanted him in the lineup.
- 51:25That's kind of why Ducky got scratched and then they brought
- 51:27Duggy back and then got scratched.
- 51:30I think that's kind of going to be the situation now.
- 51:32They have too many defensemen ones gotta go and maybe they're
- 51:36gonna keep alternating. But the coach said that this
- 51:38image came back from his injury. He hasn't really been up to
- 51:41speed or like play to the level that he did before injury.
- 51:44And that's why one of the reasons why he gave to, you
- 51:47know, scratching him. But I think Hamilton inevitably
- 51:50gets treated. An image will be in the lineup.
- 51:51Will he be fantasy relevant? I don't think so.
- 51:54Only if we see a sustained presence on power play one which
- 51:57I think Luke cues would just be the guy there for that at that
- 51:59point. But if it's not the case, we'll
- 52:00tell you and we'll let you know that I'm not holding you an
- 52:03image through this scratching or injury or process.
- 52:07You just don't need to do that like.
- 52:08You're better off like rostering a less good player with a lower
- 52:12ceiling because not much like it's it's just yeah, I don't I
- 52:15don't really think there's anything here.
- 52:18OK, then we have Robert Thomas is out with a lower body injury.
- 52:24Brayden Chan is taking his spot online.
- 52:25One power play, 1 tough, tough. I mean, Thomas has had injury
- 52:30issues in the past. Like, I think, you know, he
- 52:35hasn't had the greatest year either.
- 52:36I thought he was going to be really way better than he is.
- 52:38I thought the Blues are going to be better than they are.
- 52:40So yeah, I mean, to me, this isn't like a hugely relevant
- 52:46situation for fantasy Shen Shen could have decent, decent
- 52:51peripheral categories. But even at that, like it's not
- 52:53even a double, double on the year.
- 52:54And one guy who I like, who I actually picked up who's been
- 52:59decent lately is Jimmy Snuggerud.
- 53:02We highlighted him in the off season and like the past three
- 53:05games he's gotten 4-5 and four shots and two hits in each of
- 53:09those games. So like, that's not and the main
- 53:12thing is the minute. So of course that can just go
- 53:14away. Employers, it's always
- 53:16inconsistent. But in the meantime, I kind of
- 53:18like that from the Blues. Yeah, I mean, Thomas, the injury
- 53:21does not seem to be long term. It was just kind of like a
- 53:23day-to-day thing. So he might miss this game, but
- 53:26he might play the next game. So if you're Thomas owner, like,
- 53:28you know, don't be too worried about him missing an extended
- 53:30period of time. I just think the Blues are in a
- 53:32situation right now that they're they're not really competing.
- 53:34They're trying to find their mojo.
- 53:36The only hope for them, I think is, you know, they go after this
- 53:40Olympic break. Maybe they turned it up, but I
- 53:42think that it's too far gone into the season right now that
- 53:45they made the playoffs for Shendo.
- 53:47I think I I think this really bumps up shens value Brayden
- 53:51Schenn because line one power play 1 and him having this
- 53:54banger, you know, archetype to his play makes some very
- 53:57valuable for fantasy, especially in bankers leagues.
- 53:59And I think also he's playing for a trade like he's his name
- 54:03has been circulating in trade in trade talks for a while.
- 54:06I know Toronto is a team that was like significantly
- 54:09interested. I don't know if you can say that
- 54:11significantly interested, but I know Shane was.
- 54:14But the rumors that I saw was like, if you want Shen, then you
- 54:16gotta give a Cohen plus and they don't want to trade Cohen.
- 54:19So I, yeah, I don't know if that's going to be assessed
- 54:24gonna happen at any point, but he might, they might be giving
- 54:26him this deployment so that he can potentially get good looks
- 54:29for a trade. Nonetheless, I'm interested, but
- 54:32Thomas should be back within the next game or two it feels like.
- 54:36Is it not Cowan? Cowan Cohen.
- 54:39I don't know. I don't know.
- 54:40I've seen people say it all. Over that too.
- 54:41And like, I think this is like Voronkov vibes where it's just
- 54:44like it's Leviosa. You're somebody of different
- 54:50versions, I don't know which ones are good one anymore.
- 54:52Yeah, I think it's it's a challenge, but I yeah, I mean, I
- 54:57agree with everything you said. The one thing I'll add to it,
- 55:00though, is that the Blues have gone on these crazy late season
- 55:04runs in the past. Obviously that's really tough to
- 55:07depend on. It feels different this year.
- 55:09It feels like there was no hope. But in 2018 it felt like there
- 55:12was even less hope. You like Pat Maroon scrapping
- 55:14with another guy in practice? So they won.
- 55:17So they want us to never. You can't.
- 55:21You can't count them out. But it's definitely looking
- 55:23quite bleak. Alright.
- 55:26And last, this is tough. This is interesting.
- 55:30There's a lot to this one. Thank you, smiling.
- 55:33Brayden Point How are the lower body injury?
- 55:35Brandon Hagel may be taking his spot on Power Play 1.
- 55:40So I mean, listen, we just got some news because if you saw the
- 55:43injury, it did not look good, guys.
- 55:45It was actually it. It looked devastating.
- 55:47It looked like something in his knee blew up.
- 55:51So I really feel for Brayden Point because listen, he didn't
- 55:54have the hottest start to the season.
- 55:55He was a massive by low. Then he kind of turned it up
- 55:58after a small injury stretch and now this injury is devastating.
- 56:04Last news I saw was like literally as we're recording
- 56:06this, there was news that dropped from John Cooper.
- 56:08They finally were able to get an assessment on Britton Point and
- 56:11they said they avoided the worst case scenario.
- 56:13Like his season is not over. Does that mean his fantasy
- 56:16season is not over? I don't know.
- 56:18I think it's it's a significant week to week situation maybe
- 56:23with the Olympic break. I mean, he's not going to the
- 56:25Olympics. That's basically certain at this
- 56:26point, which is devastating for him.
- 56:28I really feel bad for him. He was one of the first names
- 56:30that were penciled into their roster.
- 56:32But is this fantasy season over? I think at this point, if you're
- 56:36in point owner, you're just hoping he comes back for like
- 56:38that week 21 quarter final week for most fantasy leagues.
- 56:42But it it I don't wanna project. I'm not a doctor, obviously, I
- 56:46don't know, but knee injuries like that are pretty significant
- 56:49and they're not gonna mess around without Tampas playing
- 56:51for the actual playoffs. So in the meantime, though, I
- 56:55expect, you know, Brett Anthony Cirelli to get a bump in minutes
- 57:00as the other the other prominent centre on this roster and
- 57:04whoever gets that power play one spot will be coveted.
- 57:06Is it finally Brandon Hagel like we saw Hagel get looks there
- 57:09during the game as point got hurt.
- 57:12Maybe my signature pick is finally to come to fruition in
- 57:16January. But listen, while we have all
- 57:19big sample size of Tampa having injured guys and then putting
- 57:22Bjorkstrand on there, then putting Nick Paul on there, then
- 57:25putting Gonzalvez on there and Brandon Hagel remaining on power
- 57:28play too. So I'm not, I'm not, I'm not
- 57:31putting my life on the line for this one.
- 57:33But if he does get it, I I would expect huge things from Brandon
- 57:37Hagel for the rest of the season.
- 57:38That would be massive for his value.
- 57:40But we have enough experience under our belt to know that to
- 57:43take this one with a grain of salt.
- 57:45So, yeah, I mean, this is like I knew about the point injury, but
- 57:51but I I found out about this news while reading it was
- 57:56believably one because it's like I knew about the injury, but I
- 57:59didn't even bother checking like the lines to see what it is.
- 58:02I was like, oh, whatever. Another stupid situation where
- 58:05Hagel's gonna get snubbed, the nugget power play one.
- 58:07But lo and behold, he's actually listed there.
- 58:10Like he's actually listed as powerful.
- 58:13So thanks Anger Management for telling me about the news.
- 58:17Earlier in the season 2 where they had another injury in the
- 58:20mid game, they put Hagel there, but then the next game it was
- 58:22like somebody else. So that's why it's still so
- 58:25early that I don't know what the next game is going to look like
- 58:28and we'll have to wait and see. But if he does get it, we're
- 58:30very optimistic either way. You're holding Brandon Hagel,
- 58:33right? It's not like he's a waiver
- 58:34wire. Better you got to pick up and be
- 58:35proactive about it. Like he's already rostered.
- 58:38So you just hope that it is actually going to be him,
- 58:40finally, and that you're rewarded.
- 58:42Yeah, because The thing is is like, I was thinking I was like,
- 58:44wow, like now that he's got power, play one, if he does
- 58:46really well with it for like a game, maybe 2, do I sell?
- 58:49And the truth is, I feel like nobody would be willing to buy
- 58:52them at the price that he can actually be.
- 58:54He could be so good. The fact that he's unable to be
- 58:57this amazing like over the past two years without getting power
- 58:59play one as wild. Like I say, protists, but like,
- 59:02I love protists. But Hagel's been wildly good.
- 59:07He got and he can replicate a similar pace for the rest of the
- 59:11year. And honestly, it feels like Sky
- 59:13would be the limit because anybody attached the culture of
- 59:16it can be good. He plays well, Kucherov, he's
- 59:19with him on line 1, which we've seen and he's done super well.
- 59:22So I just, I mean, I think, I think you just like hold and
- 59:26just enjoy because this could be amazing.
- 59:29Yeah, I mean, listen, you temporary or temper your
- 59:32expectations, whichever 1 is the correct pronunciation.
- 59:34You do that. But he's he's like the final
- 59:37evolution of the produce archetype.
- 59:39Like the guy that's thought not on the power play, but we'll get
- 59:41you like three shots and basically average a point per
- 59:44game. I think he could be like 1.11
- 59:46point, 2 points per game player if he gets power play one with
- 59:48like point 2.25 but without that is like a point 1.15 power
- 59:53player deployment. And yeah, I just if you have
- 59:57Hagel, you should be excited, but if you can sell them on the
- 1:00:00prospect of power play 1 before we know if it's actually
- 1:00:03confirmed and you get value for that, then do that.
- 1:00:05But or else just like wait and see.
- 1:00:07And he's the guy that's gonna produce with the opportunity if
- 1:00:09he gets it. So yeah, no, no harm in being
- 1:00:12patient. Yes.
- 1:00:14All right, let's get into the wood you rathers for this week.
- 1:00:18We had a so much news to cover. So that was a lot of a lot of
- 1:00:23news. A lot of people heard, a lot of
- 1:00:24people coming back from injury. So hopefully you guys brought
- 1:00:27bear with us, born with us, whatever it is of Cohen Kawan, I
- 1:00:33have no idea. Keen.
- 1:00:35No. It's.
- 1:00:35Definitely not Kawan. 100% it's not cool.
- 1:00:42But if you if you're listening to this episode, we we're
- 1:00:45usually the three of us. It's me, Jake and and Josh and
- 1:00:47Josh is currently not here. So I come up with five.
- 1:00:51Would you rathers one of each position, left wing, right wing
- 1:00:54Senator Dan Scoli and I try to split the difference between
- 1:00:57Jake and Josh and have them pick different guys.
- 1:00:59So today we will see if Jake and I disagree.
- 1:01:03And I can also kind of predict where where Josh is going to go.
- 1:01:07But let's get right into it for the first.
- 1:01:10Would you rather talking about the left wing position?
- 1:01:14Would you rather rest of season, and this is for Bangor leagues,
- 1:01:18Travis Connect me or Andre Svechnikov in our league, these
- 1:01:23guys got drafted a few picks apart.
- 1:01:26Josh actually drafted stretch Nikov and snipe me and then I
- 1:01:30drafted Connect Me right after and then was very happy with
- 1:01:33connecting for a long period of time because actually was like
- 1:01:35line 4 for like a month and 1/2. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:39I mean that they've got very similar playoff schedules.
- 1:01:42So that's kind of, you know, in the, that makes things even more
- 1:01:46difficult. The the gut reaction here is
- 1:01:49Sveshnikov just because he's more reliable for the double
- 1:01:52double. Yet I wouldn't be surprised if
- 1:01:58if connecting ends the season with more points.
- 1:02:01He did it last year by on the average by quite a wide margin.
- 1:02:06And you know, I, I mean, I guess I would say that both of them
- 1:02:10are pretty reliable for Pimms, although connecting is a bit
- 1:02:12more spicy with his place sometime.
- 1:02:17I mean, I was my gut reaction was fashion Akov.
- 1:02:21The more I think about it though, the, the, the more I
- 1:02:25think that's, I don't know, there's this is tough for you.
- 1:02:28What did you rate yourself a 7.5?
- 1:02:30You're starting off real hot here.
- 1:02:32I know, I know. You know what, I'm gonna go
- 1:02:34connect me. The deployment is reliable.
- 1:02:36You don't have to deal with RAW as like a bit of a headache.
- 1:02:39And I think that connecting can get more points, get more power,
- 1:02:46more penalty minutes. And then the, I mean, the power
- 1:02:49play points are probably not going to be as good just because
- 1:02:51I don't think that. I think, I basically think that
- 1:02:56when special is on the power play, there's a higher chance of
- 1:02:58them scoring, but there's also a chance it's just not there.
- 1:03:00So it's too much of a headache and you're getting a bit more
- 1:03:03reliability, connecting safer. That's my choice.
- 1:03:06God, that was tough. I was really.
- 1:03:08Hard I I feel like Josh's pick would be switching kickoff for
- 1:03:11sure so. When he said he's not on the
- 1:03:14team anymore, yeah, there there's gonna be sound.
- 1:03:17Logic, but these guys are honestly very close in value.
- 1:03:21They're similar archetype. I think the big question here is
- 1:03:23also the risk tolerance you have and like you said, the safe pick
- 1:03:27I think is maybe connect me because I don't think connect me
- 1:03:30is at risk of being line 4 power play to you know, so which we
- 1:03:34know is in the cards for session Yakov.
- 1:03:37But when both are playing at their optimal potential, I think
- 1:03:40stretched Jacob is the better player.
- 1:03:42I think he should edge it out and shots edge out in hits, even
- 1:03:45though both are very comparable. The main thing here though is
- 1:03:48like Carolina has an abysmal power play, but Phillies power
- 1:03:51play is nothing to write home about either to be honest, and
- 1:03:54that's recently I feel the Carolina power play has been
- 1:03:57better if you're looking at recent play, special has been
- 1:04:01better overall on the season connection has been has more
- 1:04:05points. He's been averaging more points,
- 1:04:07but also like don't forget specialists horrible for like a
- 1:04:10month and 1/2. So this really is like your risk
- 1:04:13tolerance, I think, because switch could end up being one of
- 1:04:17those guys that gets bumped down the line up, but I'm I'm going
- 1:04:20stretch if it was me and I think.
- 1:04:23Josh will totally understand. Yeah, I totally understand.
- 1:04:26It's just like, and that's my gut reaction too.
- 1:04:29It's just that when it comes down to it, the highs don't feel
- 1:04:33that much higher. They are higher, but they're not
- 1:04:36that much higher and the lows feel so low.
- 1:04:39I think and it just will have more points.
- 1:04:43Yeah, like, yeah, it's not crazy just because we know how
- 1:04:46inconsistent and volatile the raw random or situation is.
- 1:04:50So to your point, you may, you may, you may be better than both
- 1:04:53of us, but it's definitely close.
- 1:04:55If it were, definitely spitting feathers here.
- 1:04:58Yeah, definitely. This is weather.
- 1:05:01Letter. Letter.
- 1:05:03Whatever. Kwan Cohen.
- 1:05:06Yeah. Cowan.
- 1:05:09Alright. Yeah.
- 1:05:10Thank you. Alright, so let's move to the
- 1:05:13next one. Alright, talk about the right
- 1:05:15wing position. This one, honestly, maybe I feel
- 1:05:19your gut reaction will be lopsided, but I think it's
- 1:05:22closer or maybe I'm just it's actually close and it's not
- 1:05:24lopsided. I don't know.
- 1:05:25Those are the possibilities. And we'll talk about Mika
- 1:05:28Zibanejad versus Alex Debrincat rest of season.
- 1:05:33Hmm, what do you think? My gut reaction is out of
- 1:05:36curiosity. I think gut reaction is gonna be
- 1:05:38to drink it. Interesting.
- 1:05:42I wouldn't say I I OK, so for for a split second, I was
- 1:05:47thinking is a manage ad just because like, you know, it's
- 1:05:51been years of Zibanejad being an absolute stud and to bring it's
- 1:05:54great too, but it's sort of a little less a little less
- 1:05:58flashy. Perhaps it's the hair better a
- 1:06:01significantly better playoff schedule with the Rangers and
- 1:06:05despite the fact that they have been a mess, manager has been
- 1:06:08really on a tear as of late. Is it one of the hottest players
- 1:06:11in the NHL for the last month like. .6 power play points per
- 1:06:14game like the Rangers power play has actually low Cuban cooking,
- 1:06:18but they just can't win games which is crazy but he's he's
- 1:06:22been hot hot AF hot AF hot AF yeah I.
- 1:06:27Also will point out that hasn't had a point per game season and
- 1:06:32I feel like this is going to be his first to to be honest.
- 1:06:37It's funny cause like coming into the season, I would have
- 1:06:39basically given you the exact opposite answer, but for the
- 1:06:42same logic. So I would have said at the
- 1:06:44beginning, I would be like, you know, and we were lower on
- 1:06:46Spanish out because people were so high on him and for a while,
- 1:06:49like he wasn't doing what he's doing now.
- 1:06:51But anyway, my logic now is that I believe in the Red Wings more
- 1:06:55than I think I believe in the Rangers for the rest of the
- 1:06:59season. So because of that, I'm simply
- 1:07:01going to choose to bring it on the season to bring it has been
- 1:07:05significantly better. Yet if you look at the last two
- 1:07:07weeks, it's not even being closed because basically
- 1:07:09advantage has been like the best player in the league.
- 1:07:11So yeah, I mean, yeah, the last month, yeah, you're getting the
- 1:07:16shots from Debrincat that are probably gonna be significantly
- 1:07:20better. And I would say that the points
- 1:07:21are gonna average out. So because I think that the
- 1:07:25because I think that the Red Wings are gonna be a better
- 1:07:28team, a more reliable team offensively and probably
- 1:07:32defensively too. But for this purposes, offence,
- 1:07:35I'm gonna I'm gonna pick to bring it here.
- 1:07:36But it's definitely close and you're way better than a 7.5 so
- 1:07:40far, yeah. Do do you think though that
- 1:07:43given? The Rangers playoff schedules
- 1:07:45week 21 to 23. Does that edge it out for you
- 1:07:47with rather rings advantage? Because first of all, I think we
- 1:07:51don't usually take this into account with preferring you
- 1:07:55said. Right.
- 1:07:56Rather, I don't know what I said, but.
- 1:08:00Whatever I said, it definitely meant it.
- 1:08:03But I I need to preface and say week 21 to 23, obviously Rangers
- 1:08:08have the best playoff schedule. It's a 444.
- 1:08:11They have good off nights, but uh, also in a leader has faceoff
- 1:08:17wins. Zibanejad is truly elite dead
- 1:08:21because the right wing are getting those face off wins.
- 1:08:22I think that would put him over the edge for me 100% in terms of
- 1:08:26like over the brink tip. Just having that category
- 1:08:29coverage and the positional eligibility is is huge in a
- 1:08:33league without face off wins like I think most leagues out
- 1:08:35there and how we do this would you rather usually that's why
- 1:08:38it's very close. I think if you're going to bring
- 1:08:41kid, honestly, I feel like Josh would be like, I want to bring
- 1:08:43it before the playoffs. I wanted to manage AD just
- 1:08:46because the playoff schedule. So I think that's where he would
- 1:08:48lean. But also the ranges are a mess
- 1:08:50right now. So who knows how good they're
- 1:08:52going to become the playoffs even for that playoff schedule.
- 1:08:54Like if Panera's not there, how good are they truly?
- 1:08:57So I don't I don't know, but that's a lot of projections.
- 1:09:00You gotta do what you gotta do now.
- 1:09:02I'm I'm going, I'm going to break it.
- 1:09:05And I feel like it's just one of those situations where you know
- 1:09:08you're going to get an extra at least one one shot a game more
- 1:09:11than Zibanejad and Kabasa major cell high right now, whereas the
- 1:09:15brink did. I feel like he's playing it like
- 1:09:16his average and he'll hover around a point per game and but
- 1:09:20he'll get way more shots than than as a manager.
- 1:09:23And the power play is consistently good too.
- 1:09:25So disclaimer, my answer had to do with no faceoffs.
- 1:09:28So mine is. That's the way I approached it
- 1:09:31so. You know what's a?
- 1:09:33Good one. When you know that the faceoffs
- 1:09:34could kind of be a deal breaker and I don't think with faceoffs
- 1:09:37I would, I would still say the brink it, but like really by
- 1:09:41like a tiny, tiny margin. Like a.
- 1:09:44Really small margin because what's cool about the Rangers is
- 1:09:47that they got a lot of games and are probably gonna be fighting
- 1:09:50for a playoff spot. So that's nice.
- 1:09:51It's kind of the best of both worlds, Hannah Montana.
- 1:09:54But it's also just that I just think that the brain gets like a
- 1:10:00really good player on what's going to be a high flying
- 1:10:01offence the rest of the year. And I also think that if Panarin
- 1:10:04does get treated, this is without knowing the cap
- 1:10:07situation offhand right now. He's done very well with Kane in
- 1:10:11the past and to bring something goes to the Red Wings, that
- 1:10:16would be wild. The teams I saw that were in the
- 1:10:19mix for Panera and I don't know the.
- 1:10:20Cap situation either it was just like the main teams that would
- 1:10:23be in for like a higher winger like that would be like it's
- 1:10:25Carolina, it's Washington, it's Florida.
- 1:10:30So I think a lot of a lot of those destinations are good.
- 1:10:33Carolina would be terrible, disastrous.
- 1:10:37The last year or so that would be horrible would be like.
- 1:10:43That I'd have faith that he could figure it out, but just I
- 1:10:45ran. Them in situation scares you.
- 1:10:46Yeah it's it's terrifying. I I hope he doesn't go.
- 1:10:49Here, Honestly. All right, let's blow through
- 1:10:53this next one. So talk on defensemen, would
- 1:10:55you? Rather Roman Yosi or Matthew
- 1:10:58Schaefer rest of season. Alright, so the.
- 1:11:03Gut reaction here. I'm going Shaffer understandably
- 1:11:07why one would choose Yoshi. It's just I I think that with
- 1:11:12the volatility of of having a young guy on your team, of
- 1:11:15course it's gonna be way more hit or miss.
- 1:11:18That being said, Yoshi is playing on a team that's
- 1:11:23probably not going to be in the playoffs.
- 1:11:25And he's had pretty much what was described as a chronic
- 1:11:27injury before the season. So I would not be surprised if
- 1:11:30they shut him down at any time. And I also don't think like, I
- 1:11:33think that the Islanders have sort of been playing beyond what
- 1:11:37they're capable of for most of the year.
- 1:11:39Right now, they are in second in the Metropolitan Division, which
- 1:11:43is ridonculous. So I don't think that's going to
- 1:11:46say. But I think that even if they
- 1:11:47regress and end up not being very good that Schaefer, it's
- 1:11:51all about developing Schaefer, bringing up his confidence,
- 1:11:54making him a good player. So there's a lot of things to
- 1:11:56like for Schaefer, even though I think at times he will be a cell
- 1:11:59high. I don't love it.
- 1:12:01The back hats are not what yogis are.
- 1:12:03That being said, like they could simply just shut down Yoshi at
- 1:12:05any time. And because he's.
- 1:12:07Yeah. So yeah, this is Schaefer for
- 1:12:10me. I'm also going to Schaefer.
- 1:12:13I think Josh would also go I. Think Josh would be like, I
- 1:12:16think you'll see the better player, but he's at risk of
- 1:12:18getting shut down. So I'm going Schaefer.
- 1:12:20So kind of basically similar logic to you, but Nashville.
- 1:12:23We don't really highlighting their players on the cell high
- 1:12:26episodes on the waiver episodes. So they've been kind of hot and
- 1:12:29you'll see has been a little bit better as of late.
- 1:12:31Like he's hovering around .65 points per game over the last
- 1:12:34month and a good shots, good power play like we know Roman,
- 1:12:37you'll see, is known for. And Schaefer has definitely
- 1:12:40slowed down from what he did earlier in the season, even
- 1:12:42though we've seen like the magical games where he's
- 1:12:43winning, uh, and scoring crazy goals.
- 1:12:47But yet the fantasy production isn't like as hype as what he's
- 1:12:51been doing on the ice. But I think it's close enough
- 1:12:54that I want the I want the projection of what shaver can be
- 1:12:57rest of season and not the risk of him getting shut down for
- 1:13:01injuries. So also going Schaefer, but I do
- 1:13:05think you might be happier with the OC in the immediate future.
- 1:13:09Yeah, yeah, I think. So you think Josh is going
- 1:13:12Schaefer here too? I think Josh is going Shaffer as
- 1:13:15well. Alright, alright, these.
- 1:13:17Are these are really these are tough.
- 1:13:19I gotta tell you, these are happy.
- 1:13:21Maybe, I told myself, not easy. Yeah, alright, let's go to the
- 1:13:25next. All right, go on.
- 1:13:26Goalies I'm talking about. One of the hottest goalies in
- 1:13:30the league right now, and I'm not talking about their style,
- 1:13:32talking about their play on the ice.
- 1:13:35John Gibson or one of the other hottest goalies on the ice.
- 1:13:39I'll talk to them about their style, talking about their play
- 1:13:41on the ice. Joseph Wall of the Toronto Maple
- 1:13:45Leafs. That's a good old perfectly over
- 1:13:48there. Yeah, I.
- 1:13:49Like it we got, we got 2 Red Wings in these.
- 1:13:53I know. Would you rather so far it's
- 1:13:56look, I mean, they're first in the division, they're first in
- 1:13:59the Atlantic. So, I mean, it's definitely
- 1:14:02worth it to talk about it. I think that you're probably,
- 1:14:09and I really think Toronto is gonna be fighting for a spot.
- 1:14:16Do we have any like indication on when Stolarz is coming back,
- 1:14:19by the way? It looks like it's.
- 1:14:21I mean, it was. Uncertain for so long and now it
- 1:14:24kind of feels like he's getting back on the ice and everything.
- 1:14:26So I would say like maybe a few weeks, right?
- 1:14:30Right. Because I was like I.
- 1:14:32Mean, I was almost going to say that I think that wool has like
- 1:14:35a higher chance of being a solid starter.
- 1:14:38I mean, who's gonna get most of the starts I think regardless.
- 1:14:42Maple Leafs have been, you know, they've been kind of ramping up
- 1:14:46a little bit and a big part of that in their wins has been
- 1:14:49walled being just a shutdown goalie.
- 1:14:52Like, he's actually been really good for them on the ice.
- 1:14:55Yeah. No, I mean, uh, but then Gibson.
- 1:14:57Stats, which has been like insane and he's one of the best
- 1:15:00goalies over the last month, but we know it's.
- 1:15:02Older, a little squishy. That's I think I'm probably
- 1:15:06gonna go wall. Because you have what I think is
- 1:15:10the better volume play there. I also think that even though
- 1:15:14Detroit, I would say has a higher chance of than Toronto to
- 1:15:18make the playoffs, I would also say that they have a higher
- 1:15:21chance of being, you know, in a position that they're going to
- 1:15:25want to rest Gibson come playoff time as opposed to Wall getting
- 1:15:29more of the starts. So you're right, actually,
- 1:15:32that's a very good point. I would think that when Stolarz
- 1:15:34gets back, he was going to split it based on what you just said
- 1:15:36and how good Wall has been. If you look at the numbers, I
- 1:15:38mean, they're winning with him and they were not winning with
- 1:15:41Strollers at the beginning of year.
- 1:15:42That's just facts. There's a lot of variables.
- 1:15:44I still think scholars would get more than an average backup, but
- 1:15:47it's going to be A1 and A2 and not A1A1B.
- 1:15:49Areas of Detroit keeps doing super well.
- 1:15:52I think as the year goes on they're going to want to rest
- 1:15:54Gibson for the playoffs, give Talbot a few more stars.
- 1:15:57Of course Gibson still gonna play.
- 1:15:58He'll get the majority, but I think we'll is gonna get more
- 1:16:02starts, slightly less quality. But overall I think it's a
- 1:16:06better pick. I mean, listen, it's so if you
- 1:16:09look at the numbers, it's so hard to go.
- 1:16:11Against John Gibson right now, like you're putting everything
- 1:16:14on the table and like this guy is winning 80% of his games, is
- 1:16:17letting in two goals a game only and his save percentage is nuts.
- 1:16:21So it's really hard. And also Gibson was a guy that a
- 1:16:24lot of people picked up off of waivers like over the last month
- 1:16:26being like, listen, Detroit's hot.
- 1:16:28He's playing well. He's gotten a couple shoutouts
- 1:16:30like it's he's actually been performing really well.
- 1:16:32But we've seen this before with John Gibson.
- 1:16:33Like he goes through stretches like this.
- 1:16:35He goes, he goes through stretches where he's awful and
- 1:16:38he also gets hurt very often. So which is one of the reasons
- 1:16:41why it took so long for him to actually get traded away from
- 1:16:43Anaheim over the years. I think the safe pick here is
- 1:16:47Wall and for a lot of the logic as well for what you mentioned
- 1:16:51is making me choose the same answer.
- 1:16:52I think wall is he's shown us that he can be a good quality
- 1:16:56goalie. He's not the healthiest guy
- 1:16:58either, right? Like we've seen the wall be hurt
- 1:17:00often as well. So you're picking between two
- 1:17:02squishy guys. But I like to fight.
- 1:17:05Toronto is going to be trying to make the playoffs so whole time.
- 1:17:07And I do think Gibson is just play way over expectation right
- 1:17:10now that I I'm a little bit suspicious.
- 1:17:14But listen, if I had to recommend a guy for a spot star
- 1:17:16right now, it's probably John Gibson.
- 1:17:18But uh, I feel that Wall is really up there right now.
- 1:17:22I would guess Josh picks Gibson. Here because he's own stole ours
- 1:17:26in the past who's done really well for him and like, you know,
- 1:17:29I mean, there is he's been really they were really good as
- 1:17:32A1A1B situation with scholars pretty much being the 1A.
- 1:17:36But yeah, I just think that this is sort of walls chance to
- 1:17:39cement himself as a starter. He's a lot younger than Gibson
- 1:17:43also. I mean, he's not super young.
- 1:17:45He's 27. But I like for a goalie emerging
- 1:17:50as a starter in the NHL, this is a good opportunity for him and
- 1:17:53just think he'll get more games. Basically what I said and just a
- 1:17:56little bit less good percentages.
- 1:17:57So but it's tough to go against Gibson.
- 1:18:00And you're right, it's been ridiculous.
- 1:18:02I think Detroit are better team in Toronto this year.
- 1:18:04So you'd be choosing a. Goal that's also playing well on
- 1:18:06a better team. It almost feels like a no
- 1:18:08brainer, but alas. Alright, last one.
- 1:18:11There you go. I had to throw a last in there
- 1:18:14for one episode. Talk about the centre position.
- 1:18:18Now this might be the least. This is what maybe brings it
- 1:18:21down to 7.5. I don't know.
- 1:18:23Maybe I'm just not giving myself into flowers.
- 1:18:26But would you rather rest of the season Adam Fantilli or Robert
- 1:18:30Thomas? I'm curious about your.
- 1:18:34Your thoughts on this first, because I don't wanna, OK, I
- 1:18:38don't want to say anything in sway and and I kind of need some
- 1:18:41swaying here because I feel like I feel like there is a right
- 1:18:44choice, but maybe I'm just totally off base with thinking
- 1:18:47about it. So instinct.
- 1:18:49It feels like Robert Thomas, the pedigree.
- 1:18:51The name, the history of production, he's kind of been
- 1:18:55heating up over the last month before his recent injury.
- 1:18:57So we're like, OK, like, you know, what are we getting here?
- 1:19:00The Blues are also a mess. Fantilli, on the other hand, he
- 1:19:03was a guy that we said like, you know, like Leo Carlson early in
- 1:19:06the year has a chance to be whole season winning pickup.
- 1:19:09And he was for a long time then significantly slowed down.
- 1:19:12And as of late, he hasn't been the same guy that we recommended
- 1:19:14to pick up. But you know, Columbus just
- 1:19:16fired their coach. So there's upside on the
- 1:19:17horizon. He has a deployment.
- 1:19:20He has a category coverage, just better than Thomas.
- 1:19:22But the points just haven't been adding up as of late.
- 1:19:24So what do you kind of project for rest of season?
- 1:19:27Which situation is better? Who do you like better as a
- 1:19:29talent and who do you think is a safer pick?
- 1:19:33Yeah. So basically like, OK, so I'm
- 1:19:34glad. You said it because I had a very
- 1:19:36similar thought process there. Thomas is back categories.
- 1:19:41They're peripherals are are really not very good.
- 1:19:43Like he just does not hit he at all And Fantilli has been
- 1:19:47surprisingly very solid in that in that mix.
- 1:19:52Now. I mean you got a guy with top
- 1:19:56tier deployment on what should be a very fun team rest of the
- 1:20:00season in Fantilli and. Another guy who's the best
- 1:20:05player with great deployment but bad, you know, peripheral
- 1:20:09categories pretty much and inconsistent points so far in
- 1:20:13Thomas. I mean, it's very different
- 1:20:16archetypes. It's a very different situation.
- 1:20:17So this is very cool to look at. I really want to say Thomas.
- 1:20:22That was easily my first instinct and I'm probably going
- 1:20:25to stick with that only because there is some unknowns that
- 1:20:28they're there are definitely unknowns that come with the new
- 1:20:31coach, which is what they're gonna have to deal with.
- 1:20:33Now. Columbus, chances are it's
- 1:20:35positive, but there is also a higher chance of it being like
- 1:20:40that eventually will get bumped off line 1 and there was had
- 1:20:42evidence stayed there. I would say so.
- 1:20:47The highs are higher for Fantilli, I'll be the first to
- 1:20:50say that. But I also think that with the
- 1:20:53slight chance the Blues do balance back, Thomas is going to
- 1:20:55have like a huge role in that. So I think that it's somewhat of
- 1:20:58a better floor play. I'll just go Thomas here.
- 1:21:02So I feel like Josh would have. A similar take, I feel like
- 1:21:05Josh's take would be like it's Robert Thomas.
- 1:21:08Like, yeah, he's hasn't been the same guy, but at the end of the
- 1:21:11day, you take the guy that, you know, he's probably going to get
- 1:21:12the more points. My answer is honestly different.
- 1:21:16Like I feel like I'm going Chantilly rest of season.
- 1:21:18I think I might be the highest guy on the on the Blue Jackets
- 1:21:21out of the three of us. So maybe I'm a little bit too
- 1:21:24biased here, but my take is that I think, you know, Chantilly
- 1:21:27gets easily more shots, easily more hits.
- 1:21:30So I'm already getting the category coverage there.
- 1:21:32The face off wins are not anything crazy.
- 1:21:33I should be like maybe 3 face off wins extra for Thomas.
- 1:21:37The power play is kind of similar, but if I had to bet on
- 1:21:39one getting more power play points, honestly it might be
- 1:21:41close that Fantilli. Like if Columbus really figures
- 1:21:44things out under bonus, then that's more optimistic.
- 1:21:47Like do I put my life that family has more points than
- 1:21:50Thomas? No, but I wouldn't be shocked.
- 1:21:53I feel like he's definitely regressed significantly over the
- 1:21:55last month month or so. But I think there's a lot of
- 1:21:58better days ahead for Columbus and I feel they have a lot of
- 1:22:01good pieces around him. And if he really cements align
- 1:22:03one power play 1, even if ends up being like line 2 power play
- 1:22:061, I still think there's enough talent on Columbus that he can
- 1:22:08be productive. And I think he's a guy that can
- 1:22:10drive drive his own production. So I'm making the bed here.
- 1:22:14I feel like it's it may not be popular.
- 1:22:16I mean, Robert Thomas was a guy that not many people were happy
- 1:22:19with this season as well. Like you're getting maybe .8
- 1:22:21points per game and like a shot or shot and a half and pretty
- 1:22:24much nothing else. So I like the foundation of the
- 1:22:27category covered from Chantilly and bangers leagues and the
- 1:22:30upside of the points I feel like is similar.
- 1:22:33So, but that's kind of where I'm going.
- 1:22:35But maybe maybe I'm crazy like Fancy.
- 1:22:37He's definitely has a lot less name value than Robert Thomas at
- 1:22:40this point. Like Robert Thomas last year had
- 1:22:411.2 points per game. Crazy.
- 1:22:43Yeah, yeah, I know. It's not a crazy take though.
- 1:22:46Like. I mean, the Blues were, the
- 1:22:48Blues were good last year and they're really not very good
- 1:22:51this year. So I get it.
- 1:22:54I still think it's safer, but we'll see.
- 1:22:58Interesting Bilo, but it could also like it could go pretty.
- 1:23:03Pretty badly too. Yeah.
- 1:23:04So we'll see. We'll see.
- 1:23:06He gets bumped down, doesn't make it back to line 1 and his.
- 1:23:09Value might be, might be significantly different.
- 1:23:12So yeah, yeah. All right, all wraps it up.
- 1:23:15That was a. Long one, a lot of news to come
- 1:23:17up. Very good, would you Rathers?
- 1:23:18I would say yeah, it was it was a lot to unpack.
