- 0:02Speaker 1: Happy Thursday people. It's Kevin Polar, it's Aer Kratz dancing
- 0:07Speaker 1: Scottie Brown. Also Aj Perzinski with us in spirit, Holy
- 0:14Speaker 1: Aj Persinski today. That's right, we should show it right
- 0:18Speaker 1: off the jump here, AJ and the Pope, the duo
- 0:23Speaker 1: that everyone wanted. The Pope is a huge White Sox fan,
- 0:27Speaker 1: so it's awesome, very cool to see AJ meet him
- 0:31Speaker 1: in person. He posted seven year old me at my
- 0:34Speaker 1: first communion, would have never thought I would get to
- 0:36Speaker 1: meet the Holy Father Pope Leo. I was honored to
- 0:39Speaker 1: give him the last out ball from Game one of
- 0:42Speaker 1: the two thousand and five World Series, the game he attended.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I remember I was there. I was there Kratz when
- 0:47Speaker 1: and there's a great picture of the Pope with the
- 0:50Speaker 1: Perzinski jersey and AJ spam. Really good stuff out there.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Great job by the media team out there too. I
- 0:57Speaker 1: was there Kratz the other day when AJ was looking
- 1:00Speaker 1: around and he was like, I've got it this baseball
- 1:04Speaker 1: from the game that he attended. I'm going to give
- 1:06Speaker 1: this to him.
- 1:07Speaker 2: That's a cool that's a cool gift. Except does anybody
- 1:10Speaker 2: know how Game one ended?
- 1:14Speaker 1: Not?
- 1:14Speaker 2: Well that I remember, wasn't it Scottie POD's walkoff homer.
- 1:18Speaker 2: So AJ kept the ball from.
- 1:21Speaker 1: The oh, I mean, well for them. So wait, you're saying, so.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Did he keep that ball from the top half of
- 1:30Speaker 2: the ninth or do I have my history incorrect?
- 1:33Speaker 1: I mean, you can't blitz me like that on two
- 1:35Speaker 1: thousand and five.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I mean, that's just I thought Scotty Podd's hit the
- 1:39Speaker 2: walkoff homer in game one of the World Series. But
- 1:42Speaker 2: our crack team behind the scenes needs to figure that out.
- 1:44Speaker 2: But also that picture, that first picture, this is cool,
- 1:47Speaker 2: like you meet the pope. That's like meeting like that's
- 1:50Speaker 2: crazy to be And AJ knows everybody, but man, look
- 1:54Speaker 2: at AG's power allies. I didn't know he had it
- 1:56Speaker 2: like that.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Wait no, they got it here, So I mean it
- 2:04Speaker 1: wasn't a walk off the white whoa wait no, no, no,
- 2:09Speaker 1: you're showing us.
- 2:11Speaker 2: So this is this is my bad because I should
- 2:13Speaker 2: have I should have done my research ahead of time,
- 2:16Speaker 2: and I got it.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yeah, game walk off with game two? Yes, yes, no,
- 2:21Speaker 1: this is right. Game one. They game one Top nine
- 2:25Speaker 1: shut it down and they won the game at home.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Finally, let me tell you something, let me tell you something.
- 2:31Speaker 4: We know AJ and AJ, you know, tends to he
- 2:34Speaker 4: can elaborate the truth. Sometimes he can do some things
- 2:37Speaker 4: that you question his integrity.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Sometimes. The one thing he's not doing is lying to
- 2:41Speaker 3: the Pope to his face.
- 2:42Speaker 4: So I think he knows that that ball was the
- 2:46Speaker 4: last hour of that game, and he gave Oh no, no, yeah,
- 2:50Speaker 4: we do No.
- 2:51Speaker 2: No. I wasn't saying the ball was I was just
- 2:53Speaker 2: saying I didn't. I thought he had kept the ball
- 2:55Speaker 2: from the top of the knife. But Scottie Pods hit
- 2:58Speaker 2: the walk off in game two, so that was that
- 3:00Speaker 2: was what Bobby Jenks punch punched out, you know whoever
- 3:03Speaker 2: it was to end game one. That's so sick to
- 3:07Speaker 2: give him. That's such a great gift.
- 3:09Speaker 4: There's one place you're not going and not being factual
- 3:12Speaker 4: accurate about what you're giving someone as a gift, and
- 3:15Speaker 4: that's when you're meeting the Pope.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I was not saying that AJ was lying.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I was not saying he was lying.
- 3:24Speaker 4: I mean it's still I mean, it's no pretty amazing,
- 3:27Speaker 4: like the fact that you know Chris, you know, like
- 3:30Speaker 4: as a baseball player. Yeah, like there's some really cool
- 3:33Speaker 4: perks of the job, and there's some cool things that
- 3:35Speaker 4: you get to do. But to ever think that, you know,
- 3:38Speaker 4: being a baseball player and then you know, transitioning into
- 3:41Speaker 4: broadcasting too, would allow you the opportunity.
- 3:44Speaker 3: To go to the Vatican and meet the Pope is
- 3:47Speaker 3: pretty amazing.
- 3:48Speaker 2: It's crazy. People don't get to do it. That's crazy.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And the Vatican loves the White Sox right now. He
- 3:58Speaker 1: is a real White Sox and he's brought it up
- 4:01Speaker 1: multiple times already. He's got some gear, very cool. AJ
- 4:04Speaker 1: will be back in due time from his tour, Big
- 4:09Speaker 1: Big charge the mound to cover today.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Charge.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I'm assuming KP you played with David Peterson right longest
- 4:19Speaker 1: tenured met and not anymore. He gets traded to the
- 4:23Speaker 1: Chicago Cubs. ERA north of six, fielding independent pitching number
- 4:27Speaker 1: was in the three since I expected era and not
- 4:31Speaker 1: as bad I think either good ground ball rate. Mets
- 4:34Speaker 1: defense is not great awful. Yesterday in game two of
- 4:39Speaker 1: their double header loss, the Cubs just absolutely molly wopped them.
- 4:43Speaker 1: So what do we think about this? Jeff Passon reporting
- 4:46Speaker 1: it yesterday talking about how the Cubs desperately need starting
- 4:49Speaker 1: pitching help, talking about the ground balls, the fielding independent pitching,
- 4:52Speaker 1: the six on nine Era the Mets, he said, in
- 4:54Speaker 1: field defense to the best in MLB Cubs in field
- 4:58Speaker 1: defense could be a huge health for Peterson. They also
- 5:01Speaker 1: recently lost Edward Cabrera in the past what thirty six
- 5:04Speaker 1: hours to the injured list. They also lost Ben Brown
- 5:07Speaker 1: in the last thirty six hours. Justin Steele is questionable
- 5:10Speaker 1: to return this season. If he does, it'll probably be
- 5:13Speaker 1: as a reliever. Kate Horton was awesome for them last year,
- 5:18Speaker 1: but he's not part of the picture this year. They
- 5:21Speaker 1: need arms. This makes sense to me. KP. David Peterson
- 5:24Speaker 1: needs a change of scenery. And also the Mets are
- 5:26Speaker 1: on their way to selling, so they can say whatever
- 5:28Speaker 1: they want. This is the beginning of the end.
- 5:32Speaker 4: I love everything about this. I love David Peterson as
- 5:35Speaker 4: a picture. I love him as a human being. And
- 5:38Speaker 4: you know, it's talk about perfect timing. The fact that
- 5:40Speaker 4: the Mets did what they did yesterday and you were
- 5:42Speaker 4: talking about this high ground bawl rate. And then going
- 5:44Speaker 4: from a team like the Mets, who's had their defensive
- 5:47Speaker 4: struggles this year, going to the Cubs. When you look
- 5:49Speaker 4: around that diamond, Michael Bush, Nico Horner, Dansby Swanson, Alex Bregman.
- 5:54Speaker 4: I think he's going to benefit from the fact that
- 5:57Speaker 4: he has those guys behind him. He is going to
- 5:59Speaker 4: a ball that is a little bit more hit or
- 6:01Speaker 4: friendly in terms of the long ball in Chicago, especially
- 6:05Speaker 4: now that the weather's warm there, and we know how
- 6:08Speaker 4: New York can play, you know, not super friendly for
- 6:11Speaker 4: hitters and the long ball, but New York is a
- 6:14Speaker 4: tough place to play. And this is all that David
- 6:16Speaker 4: Peterson's ever known. And he's had kind of an interesting
- 6:20Speaker 4: kind of trajectory in his career. You know, he came
- 6:22Speaker 4: up with a ton of prospect status and kind of
- 6:25Speaker 4: worked himself into the rotation. He's had some moments where
- 6:28Speaker 4: he's been really, really good. He's obviously not having a
- 6:31Speaker 4: great year this year.
- 6:33Speaker 3: But I love it.
- 6:33Speaker 4: I love you know, the fact that anytime you can
- 6:36Speaker 4: get out of a place like New York, especially when
- 6:38Speaker 4: things aren't going well, and you're going to a team
- 6:40Speaker 4: like Chicago where the fan base is, you know, very
- 6:43Speaker 4: warm and welcoming and very passionate, and the fact that
- 6:46Speaker 4: the Cubs are playing better baseball and that they are
- 6:49Speaker 4: expected to be a team that is going to try
- 6:51Speaker 4: to win the division and get to the postseason.
- 6:53Speaker 3: I love it for all parties.
- 6:55Speaker 4: And obviously the Cubs are desperate for any arms right now,
- 6:58Speaker 4: major league ready caliber arms that can you know, slot
- 7:02Speaker 4: into their rotation right now.
- 7:03Speaker 3: The fact that David Peterson.
- 7:05Speaker 4: Wasn't in the Mets rotation anymore, and that they are
- 7:08Speaker 4: on their way to be kind of selling off anything
- 7:11Speaker 4: that they can hear in the near future. I love
- 7:14Speaker 4: when teams don't wait to the deadline too. If you
- 7:16Speaker 4: have a need right now, you know the gap between
- 7:19Speaker 4: now and the deadline, you know so much could change
- 7:22Speaker 4: in that time of where you're at, what the cost is,
- 7:24Speaker 4: and all that stuff. I love when teams are like,
- 7:26Speaker 4: you know what, let's just make the move right now,
- 7:28Speaker 4: because you're probably going to get two, three, four extra
- 7:31Speaker 4: starts out of David Peterson.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Right now between now and the deadline.
- 7:36Speaker 1: You know why I are enjoying this minute because we're happy, Krats.
- 7:39Speaker 1: We're happy because we're wearing mac Weldon.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yes, I'm six foot five and nobody can give me
- 7:45Speaker 2: tall clothing, but mack Weldon allows me to have it.
- 7:48Speaker 2: So I don't really have to care about how I look,
- 7:52Speaker 2: and I still look good because I don't put a
- 7:54Speaker 2: lot of time into what I do to pick out
- 7:56Speaker 2: my clothes. Mac Weldon takes care of it.
- 7:58Speaker 1: For me, always in style made from the world's most
- 8:02Speaker 1: comfortable performance materials. Summer gets sweaty, don't let unnecessary sweat
- 8:06Speaker 1: spots emerge. Mack Weldon's air Knit X fabric helps you out.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Their lightest fabric is fused with nylon mesh for maximum airflow.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Skip the midday wardrobe changes the barely. Their feel also
- 8:19Speaker 1: keeps you feeling more dry and fresh. Don't sweat the
- 8:22Speaker 1: heat this summer feel as effortlessly cool as you look.
- 8:25Speaker 1: With mack Weldon. Go to Mackweldon dot com and get
- 8:27Speaker 1: twenty percent off your first order of one hundred and
- 8:29Speaker 1: twenty five bucks or more with promo code foul. That's
- 8:32Speaker 1: m A C K W E L d O N
- 8:35Speaker 1: dot com code foul.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Yeah. I love the fact that they did that for
- 8:40Speaker 2: David Peterson because he was out of the rotation. But
- 8:43Speaker 2: this is why they have advanced metrics. How does a
- 8:46Speaker 2: team find value in somebody with a six ZHO nine era.
- 8:51Speaker 2: That FIP is huge and when those guys, I mean
- 8:55Speaker 2: very few teams look at that, or very few fans
- 8:58Speaker 2: look at that and say this guy he should be
- 9:01Speaker 2: a lot luckier, or he should he should be he
- 9:03Speaker 2: should be doing better than he is. They just look
- 9:05Speaker 2: at it and they go, ah, David Peterson six o
- 9:08Speaker 2: nine era, cooked, don't want him anymore. I think this
- 9:11Speaker 2: is something that they that the Cubs could really be
- 9:14Speaker 2: able to add a lot of value to and we'll
- 9:18Speaker 2: get the most value out of it because of exactly
- 9:21Speaker 2: what KP said. Great infield defense.
- 9:24Speaker 1: He's thirty years old and he was an All Star,
- 9:28Speaker 1: wait for it, last year, not like, oh, he was
- 9:32Speaker 1: an All Star in twenty twenty two three. Last year
- 9:35Speaker 1: he was an All Star for the met and he
- 9:37Speaker 1: had a down second half and then it has not
- 9:39Speaker 1: picked up since I've been I would say very critical
- 9:44Speaker 1: of the Mets switching their pitching program from Jeremy Hoffner
- 9:47Speaker 1: to the new regime. Even if the new regime's good,
- 9:50Speaker 1: you just went through turnover with so much of your
- 9:52Speaker 1: coaching staff and then you expect a new roster and
- 9:55Speaker 1: a new coaching staff to all gel from the jump.
- 9:58Speaker 1: And it was stupid. It was a poor decision. The
- 10:00Speaker 1: Mets got smacked again, so they're out of it. They're
- 10:03Speaker 1: done right, They're nine games out of a wild card spot,
- 10:06Speaker 1: and we're almost at July. They're twelve games under five hundred.
- 10:09Speaker 1: It's not happening for them this year. In KP the
- 10:12Speaker 1: Cubs have had their ups and downs, but they scored
- 10:15Speaker 1: ten runs in each of those games. There were six
- 10:17Speaker 1: errors against the Mets in that second game, like it
- 10:19Speaker 1: is all unraveling. CODEI Sango was a mess a couple
- 10:22Speaker 1: of days ago. We talked about it. Right, it was
- 10:24Speaker 1: like eleven outs and ninety eight pitches, like he can't
- 10:27Speaker 1: throw strikes. It is all falling apart. Mets fans are
- 10:30Speaker 1: chanting Pete Alonso in the stands. Keith Hernandez has now
- 10:33Speaker 1: lost it on the Mets broadcast, including saying how what
- 10:37Speaker 1: it was the quote, oh my god, goodness. One of
- 10:39Speaker 1: the worst trades in a long while by the Mets.
- 10:42Speaker 1: As Pete Carl Armstrong was doing some damage against them,
- 10:45Speaker 1: they traded Pete for a couple months of Hobby Bayez
- 10:48Speaker 1: to do the thumbs down sign, what a mess, what
- 10:53Speaker 1: a mess?
- 10:53Speaker 4: Man?
- 10:54Speaker 1: They miss you.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's really funny. You know.
- 10:57Speaker 4: I got to stop, you know, thinking that you're not
- 11:00Speaker 4: going to get to the points. I jumped the gun
- 11:01Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 11:02Speaker 3: But I was going to say, who would have thought.
- 11:04Speaker 4: Obviously, Pete Alonzo's you know, turning out to have a
- 11:06Speaker 4: pretty good year, he would much be needed in that
- 11:08Speaker 4: Mets lineup right now. But who would have thought Jeremy
- 11:11Speaker 4: Heffner would have been the biggest loss for the Mets
- 11:13Speaker 4: this offseason? Obviously, you see you have a guy like
- 11:16Speaker 4: David Peterson All Star last year, sixty ARRA this year,
- 11:20Speaker 4: and you're looking about the Atlanta braves pitching rotation, you know,
- 11:24Speaker 4: just hammered by injuries, and there's still a team that's
- 11:27Speaker 4: in first place. Their pitching has been outstanding. There's clearly
- 11:30Speaker 4: something that Jeremy Hefner brings to the table that he
- 11:35Speaker 4: clearly did it with the Mets when he was getting
- 11:36Speaker 4: the best out of guys like David Peterson, Codei Singai,
- 11:40Speaker 4: and then obviously you're seeing what he's doing.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Right now with the Atlanta Braves.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Who would have really thought that a guy like that
- 11:45Speaker 4: would make such a huge difference in the organization.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Yeah, shocker. Pitching coaches matter and Kratz. They also made
- 11:54Speaker 1: Dance re Sponson look like Babe Ruth over a thirty
- 11:58Speaker 1: six hour period as well, oh my gosh, Dansby had
- 12:01Speaker 1: fifteen RBIs in a twenty It was twenty four hour,
- 12:05Speaker 1: I guess. And he had eight RBIs in his last
- 12:07Speaker 1: twenty seven games before going up against the Mets this week,
- 12:11Speaker 1: and they've got one more. But I mean, the Cubs
- 12:13Speaker 1: are six and oh against the Mets. The Mets are
- 12:16Speaker 1: helping their wild card chances, and they might be helping
- 12:18Speaker 1: the team now with David Peterson added to the rotation.
- 12:21Speaker 1: So add it all up. These two teams are in
- 12:23Speaker 1: very different places.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Definitely are, and I think both teams pushed in in
- 12:30Speaker 2: their in their sense of pushing in the Cubs making
- 12:34Speaker 2: moves that you're like, wow, this is what I should
- 12:36Speaker 2: see from the Cubs in the off season. Mets making
- 12:39Speaker 2: moves that, hey, you know what, they are making moves,
- 12:41Speaker 2: which I think they have been doing, but clearly the
- 12:45Speaker 2: moves have not geled. They have not come together as
- 12:47Speaker 2: a team. And this team this season for the Mets
- 12:51Speaker 2: was a wash a long time ago.
- 12:53Speaker 1: M hm, it was. And I know for them, even
- 12:57Speaker 1: if we think David Peterson's gonna rebound, and I think
- 13:01Speaker 1: I'm going to take the under on the Era at six,
- 13:04Speaker 1: starting with his Cub tenure when it's groundball city to
- 13:07Speaker 1: an infield that can vacuum up the baseball as well
- 13:11Speaker 1: as anyone. So Christian Scott returns for them this weekend.
- 13:15Speaker 1: He'll take one spot. They just announced Zach Thornton is
- 13:17Speaker 1: going to take another spot. But like, we're in a
- 13:19Speaker 1: mode now where they're very relying on Nolan McLain and
- 13:23Speaker 1: this is his first full season. It is all unraveling right.
- 13:26Speaker 1: The offense was nowhere to be found. Then they went
- 13:28Speaker 1: through the injuries. Now they're going through the starting pitching
- 13:32Speaker 1: injuries plus ineffectiveness. It's not like the Cubs aren't going
- 13:35Speaker 1: through their own issues. I mentioned how many guys are
- 13:37Speaker 1: out for them, and then show Tim Anaga, Colin Ray,
- 13:41Speaker 1: Javier Asad, Matthew Boyd, Like that's your rotation right now
- 13:44Speaker 1: plus Peterson. It's not a shiny rotation. In KPI, I
- 13:48Speaker 1: would make the case that they're probably going to have
- 13:50Speaker 1: to do more. Right, this kind of holds things over
- 13:53Speaker 1: and hopefully can be a guy that fills up some
- 13:56Speaker 1: innings for them. But you would imagine they're going to
- 13:58Speaker 1: go after a starter at the deadline over the next
- 14:01Speaker 1: month or so.
- 14:02Speaker 4: Yeah, And I don't think there's anything wrong with, you know,
- 14:05Speaker 4: plugging in holes. Especially before the trade deadline, you have
- 14:08Speaker 4: a need for a guy to enter your starting rotation.
- 14:11Speaker 4: Maybe they find lightning in a bottle and David Peterson.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Maybe it doesn't, but maybe he's just a stopgap. But
- 14:16Speaker 4: I wouldn't expect the Cubs to kind of just sit
- 14:19Speaker 4: back with the team that they've kind of built around
- 14:21Speaker 4: the infield and the outfield position. Player wise, they obviously
- 14:26Speaker 4: need more from that pitching staff. You know, they've been
- 14:29Speaker 4: hammered by injuries. You know, when that rotation is fully
- 14:32Speaker 4: healthy and I don't know if everyone is going to
- 14:33Speaker 4: be healthy at the same time, it's a pretty good rotation.
- 14:36Speaker 4: But they're definitely a team that probably needs a frontline
- 14:39Speaker 4: starter at the deadline.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Yeah, And if you're the MAT's best thing you can
- 14:43Speaker 1: do is try to get Freddy Parolt on track for
- 14:45Speaker 1: a few starts, because you know he's gonna go somewhere
- 14:47Speaker 1: else and he's gonna pitch well, so try and at
- 14:49Speaker 1: least make sure that you get a nice return for him.
- 14:52Speaker 1: I can think back to last year when Zach Allen struggling,
- 14:55Speaker 1: and I know that's kind of carried into this year.
- 14:57Speaker 1: But it's like, damn, you have an asset like that,
- 14:59Speaker 1: and Freddy lost to you. Some good players and Brandon
- 15:02Speaker 1: sprot and Jet Williams try and get him into a
- 15:04Speaker 1: good place over the next whatever five starts so that
- 15:07Speaker 1: you can flip them and get something good because they're toast.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I know. Will Salmon wrote, Oh, they're not necessarily surrendering
- 15:13Speaker 1: yet that they're not coming back from nine games out
- 15:17Speaker 1: of a wildcard at this point and eighty teams in
- 15:20Speaker 1: front of them. Mister Kratz, would you like to read
- 15:22Speaker 1: this tweet from Jason Stark.
- 15:24Speaker 2: I love Jason Stark. People like to talk about win probability.
- 15:28Speaker 2: In the Phillies case the last two games, it's more
- 15:30Speaker 2: like win improbability. Their win improbability odds from Greg Stole's
- 15:35Speaker 2: win probability calculator say that three times was point five
- 15:39Speaker 2: to eight percent last night when Turner had a one
- 15:42Speaker 2: to two count which ended up scoring eight runs that inning,
- 15:45Speaker 2: and point two point no two point five percent tonight
- 15:49Speaker 2: when Schwarber was one two count with two outs. As
- 15:52Speaker 2: you know, they won both games.
- 15:55Speaker 1: That's incredible, KPU, what what a run? We had a
- 15:59Speaker 1: great tweet to last night or our team put together
- 16:02Speaker 1: like babe, wake up, it happened again. I mean, that's
- 16:06Speaker 1: as late as it gets to roll runs together and KP.
- 16:09Speaker 1: You know what those kind of wins mean for the
- 16:11Speaker 1: ball club. Not every win treated equally in terms of
- 16:14Speaker 1: the storyline.
- 16:16Speaker 4: No, I mean, I love what the Phillies are doing.
- 16:18Speaker 4: I think, you know, much like we probably thought about
- 16:21Speaker 4: teams like the Mets. They were just kind of underperforming
- 16:23Speaker 4: early in the year, they go out and make a
- 16:25Speaker 4: managerial change, you know, with.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Histories repeating itself.
- 16:28Speaker 4: We saw what happened a couple of years ago when
- 16:31Speaker 4: they fired Joe Gilardi and Rob Thomas took over, and
- 16:33Speaker 4: then Or Thompson you know, gets fired, Don Mattley takes over.
- 16:38Speaker 3: I mean that team is.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Just loaded with talent, you know, and obviously the emergence
- 16:43Speaker 4: of guys like Christopher Sanchez, and then you getting a
- 16:45Speaker 4: healthy Zach Wheeler back, and you know, going out and
- 16:48Speaker 4: acquiring guy like who's the who am I Lizardo? I
- 16:52Speaker 4: mean that team is just I mean, that team is
- 16:55Speaker 4: just impressive.
- 16:58Speaker 1: And the Ats are on pace for the most once
- 17:00Speaker 1: of all time.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Yeah, that's not a good stat.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Hey, we're looking at some upcoming games over the next
- 17:12Speaker 1: couple days Seekeek helping us out. First off, we can
- 17:16Speaker 1: show this tweet about the Boston Red Sox flight issues
- 17:20Speaker 1: leading to an eight or nine am home arrival for
- 17:25Speaker 1: seven o'clock game KP against the best pitcher in the
- 17:29Speaker 1: American League right now in Cam Schlitzler. Good luck with that.
- 17:34Speaker 4: It might be the best thing for him. You don't
- 17:36Speaker 4: have a whole lot of time to prepare. You're just
- 17:38Speaker 4: strictly on adrenaline. But I do believe when something like
- 17:41Speaker 4: this happens and you want the best players to go
- 17:44Speaker 4: out there and perform the best I do believe that
- 17:46Speaker 4: there's a way that the league could potentially step in
- 17:49Speaker 4: and just say, play a double header tomorrow, because obviously
- 17:51Speaker 4: that's something out of the hands of the players in
- 17:53Speaker 4: the organization. Sometimes things like that happen and it's just not,
- 17:58Speaker 4: you know, entirely fair.
- 18:00Speaker 2: I would say the league will not do that because
- 18:02Speaker 2: they do not ever want to cause gate, you know,
- 18:04Speaker 2: because then teams will be like, oh, our flight got
- 18:07Speaker 2: in late, and then people will manipulate it. My thing
- 18:11Speaker 2: called the minor leagues, they're gonna have to suck it up,
- 18:14Speaker 2: and to me, I don't think it affects tonight as
- 18:17Speaker 2: much as it'll affect tomorrow night. Is how I always
- 18:19Speaker 2: felt like those tough travels in the minor leagues. That's
- 18:23Speaker 2: how it affects it. But Wilson might be getting a
- 18:26Speaker 2: call from the front office too and be like, Delta
- 18:29Speaker 2: is one of our sponsors. Maybe don't say thanks Delta.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Unless you really me and thanks, maybe they really helped
- 18:36Speaker 1: to pick you up. I'm kidding. There was definitely sarcasm
- 18:40Speaker 1: in that tweet. So on the upcoming games topic this weekend,
- 18:44Speaker 1: and some of this is starting already right with Thursday games.
- 18:48Speaker 1: You have Phillies and Mets. You have the Yankees, Red Sox,
- 18:51Speaker 1: like I just mentioned, that's a four gamer, the Dodgers
- 18:54Speaker 1: and Padres, including a Friday night Roki Sazaki versus Walker
- 18:57Speaker 1: Bueler matchup that I think is intre if you want
- 19:00Speaker 1: to grab a ticket for that. In Detroit, it's the
- 19:02Speaker 1: Astros and the Tigers, Reds and Pirates, who both have
- 19:05Speaker 1: been like me lately, and you got to see if
- 19:07Speaker 1: they stay in the wildcard race, Nationals and Orioles, which
- 19:10Speaker 1: is a much better matchup I think than anticipated heading
- 19:13Speaker 1: into the year because The Nats are playing okay, although
- 19:16Speaker 1: it's a rollercoaster ride when you follow them. Rangers, Blue Jays, Mariners,
- 19:20Speaker 1: Guardians is good. There's really good matchups this weekend, So
- 19:23Speaker 1: grub grab a ticket. Why don't you use code territory
- 19:25Speaker 1: ten for ten percent off of that MLB ticket on
- 19:29Speaker 1: seat geek ten percent off with promo code Territory one zero.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Click the link in the description to download the app.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Have the code automatically added to your account so you
- 19:36Speaker 1: can use it later. Thank you to seat geek for
- 19:40Speaker 1: helping us look ahead at the schedule. Every single day
- 19:42Speaker 1: on FT, We've got breaking news on FT. What will
- 19:49Speaker 1: the future of the sport look like? The latest proposal
- 19:53Speaker 1: from Major League Baseball is in Jesse Rodgers with it
- 19:57Speaker 1: first and it's next CBA. The league is prepared posing
- 20:00Speaker 1: a max contract length of five years for free agent
- 20:03Speaker 1: players that are switching teams. But wait, if you stay
- 20:06Speaker 1: with your team, you get an extra year. You can
- 20:08Speaker 1: stay for six whole years, no deferred contracts, qualifying offer
- 20:14Speaker 1: gone five years to free agency for players thirty or older?
- 20:19Speaker 1: What else? And this from Evandralic too. While I'm also
- 20:23Speaker 1: reading Jesse Rodgers because he put it in a way. Basically,
- 20:25Speaker 1: MLB said, if players accept a salary cap, they'll do
- 20:28Speaker 1: things like increase the minimum salary number to a million
- 20:31Speaker 1: dollars for players with two plus years of service time.
- 20:35Speaker 1: If you're zero to one, you'd get nine hundred thousand.
- 20:37Speaker 1: So that's we're currently in the mid to high seven
- 20:40Speaker 1: hundreds for the zero to one and then an extra
- 20:43Speaker 1: one hundred thousand dollars with a full year of service.
- 20:47Speaker 1: So again MLB is basically this is the part finally
- 20:50Speaker 1: where MLB came out and said, if you take the
- 20:52Speaker 1: salary cap and the draft lowering and all that other stuff,
- 20:56Speaker 1: will make the minimum salary a million bucks if you
- 20:58Speaker 1: have at least two years of service time. Otherwise we're
- 21:01Speaker 1: going to go up like one fifty k to nine
- 21:02Speaker 1: hundred one hundred k more for players with zero to
- 21:05Speaker 1: one years of service time, a potential one hundred k
- 21:08Speaker 1: more no more qualifying offer, which affects you know, several
- 21:12Speaker 1: players per off season. They'll and then they want to
- 21:15Speaker 1: get rid of deferred salary and no change to the
- 21:18Speaker 1: arbitration process in this one. So that actually is one
- 21:21Speaker 1: of the most telling things to me is that they're
- 21:23Speaker 1: not offering anything there, then we probably won't see that thing.
- 21:26Speaker 1: The arbitration process touched in the current battle. But who
- 21:30Speaker 1: wants to start here with all of the fun that
- 21:33Speaker 1: was thrown Okay, KP.
- 21:35Speaker 4: I just I just want to know if do I
- 21:37Speaker 4: get to keep my debut uniform, then I'll sign anything.
- 21:41Speaker 2: That's it.
- 21:43Speaker 1: All you want is your debut uniform. I think they
- 21:45Speaker 1: would take that trade tomorrow done. We're going to play
- 21:48Speaker 1: baseball in twenty twenty seven.
- 21:50Speaker 2: That feels like that's how they negotiated two cbas ago.
- 21:54Speaker 2: And I was like, wait a minute, this is not important.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Why are we negotiating clubhouse does here? People? But anyway
- 22:01Speaker 2: back to this, back to this CBA negotiations.
- 22:03Speaker 4: So go ahead, Crassy, go go go Craszy. That was
- 22:06Speaker 4: that was the point I wanted to make.
- 22:07Speaker 3: I'll follow you.
- 22:08Speaker 2: No, that's that's really good. I like that. I would
- 22:11Speaker 2: just say, in every smattering of what is this like
- 22:16Speaker 2: seven eight items, what's the one that's going to be
- 22:19Speaker 2: taken out of it? What's the one? Because as a player,
- 22:22Speaker 2: I'm gonna get road, I'm gonna get crushed. Well, all
- 22:24Speaker 2: players all they just say no to everything. I think
- 22:27Speaker 2: there's an answer somewhere in there. But with their proposal,
- 22:30Speaker 2: if you remember their proposal, you're not getting drafted until
- 22:32Speaker 2: you're older now, So now that falls in line with
- 22:35Speaker 2: them saying, okay, if you're thirty years old, you only
- 22:39Speaker 2: need five years of service. They're not taking anything away
- 22:43Speaker 2: from their value as owners. They're just making sure that
- 22:49Speaker 2: they're capping contracts. They're capping the ability to have those contracts.
- 22:53Speaker 2: And I hope as the Players Association looks at these
- 22:56Speaker 2: things and continues to not be distracted by the look
- 23:02Speaker 2: at this and stays focused on the things that will
- 23:06Speaker 2: better the game and not just better players pockets and
- 23:12Speaker 2: owner's pockets. And I think there's some nice things here,
- 23:15Speaker 2: like the whole qualifying offer. To me, I don't think
- 23:17Speaker 2: players should really have to negotiate the qualifying offer is
- 23:22Speaker 2: what were they offered last year? Set? I think it
- 23:26Speaker 2: was like twelve were offered and three picked it up
- 23:29Speaker 2: last year. Like that's twelve out of you're talking about
- 23:33Speaker 2: forty guys per team, twelve hundred guys that you're negotiating,
- 23:37Speaker 2: Like the owners should just keep it or take it away.
- 23:40Speaker 2: It's not a majority thing. And owners are like, hey,
- 23:43Speaker 2: we're totally fine. With that, that's what you want to
- 23:45Speaker 2: get rid of.
- 23:47Speaker 4: And Scott correctly if I'm seeing this correctly, but this
- 23:51Speaker 4: is in addition to what they already proposed, in addition
- 23:55Speaker 4: to moving the draft.
- 23:57Speaker 3: You know after high school.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, layers of yeah go out as they're
- 24:03Speaker 1: meeting in New York City about this stuff, and really,
- 24:05Speaker 1: like we need to preface this. Basically, everything we're talking
- 24:08Speaker 1: about right now doesn't mean much. Like it's pieing the
- 24:11Speaker 1: sky from both sides. And then when we get to
- 24:13Speaker 1: like February, they'll actually fix a couple things that they
- 24:17Speaker 1: really want. So this is right now where you're a
- 24:20Speaker 1: little kid and you say, hey, write what you want
- 24:23Speaker 1: from Santa, and you're like, I want a million dollars,
- 24:25Speaker 1: I want the world's biggest house. I want all the
- 24:28Speaker 1: best chefs in the world. Right you just right do
- 24:30Speaker 1: you want?
- 24:31Speaker 2: Okay?
- 24:32Speaker 4: To me, like to your point, cratsy right now, like
- 24:35Speaker 4: I'm still trying to like process all the information. How
- 24:37Speaker 4: this is in addition to all the other things. But
- 24:40Speaker 4: you talk about like the shiny toy right to me,
- 24:43Speaker 4: it's like a lot of this stuff is written in
- 24:45Speaker 4: like really small print. And then a couple things are
- 24:47Speaker 4: in bold print, and like I feel like that's what
- 24:49Speaker 4: they're trying to do. Like, obviously players are not for
- 24:52Speaker 4: the qualifying offer. That should be something that's gone right
- 24:55Speaker 4: free agency a year sooner. We're at thirty years old.
- 24:57Speaker 4: But they're only like making these little couple adjustments in
- 25:02Speaker 4: bold writing and they're putting all like the stuff and
- 25:04Speaker 4: find detail in really small print.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Well, let me read a quote then from the MLB side, right,
- 25:10Speaker 1: because we're kind of trading barbs back and forth. You've
- 25:13Speaker 1: got the MLB proposal and you've got the Player Association proposals.
- 25:16Speaker 1: So one of the lead talkers for MLB, the special
- 25:19Speaker 1: Assistant Baseball Ops, Glenn Kaplan, is the name. We've got
- 25:22Speaker 1: a quote from him. So he said today, in addition
- 25:25Speaker 1: to proposing the largest ever increase in the minimum salary
- 25:27Speaker 1: earned by over half of MLB players, we accepted two
- 25:30Speaker 1: landmark changes to free agency that have been in place
- 25:32Speaker 1: for fifty years. We agreed to both the PA's proposal
- 25:35Speaker 1: to provide earlier access to free agency and their proposal
- 25:37Speaker 1: to eliminate the qualifying offer system, a provision players view
- 25:41Speaker 1: as a drag on free agency. We also propose to
- 25:43Speaker 1: eliminate the third compensation and to create a new cornerstone
- 25:47Speaker 1: player provision similar to the NBA's bird rights, to give
- 25:50Speaker 1: every team affair shot at retaining their fans favorite star players.
- 25:54Speaker 1: So what happens here in the pr statement is the
- 25:57Speaker 1: top saying, hey, we gave in on a couple things.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Then at the bottom we're going to talk about a
- 26:02Speaker 1: couple of things that we feel like impact fans. The
- 26:05Speaker 1: main crux too of this that I think is a
- 26:07Speaker 1: good back and forth. Again, most of this is a
- 26:10Speaker 1: waste a good back and forth to find out about
- 26:13Speaker 1: from you guys, is how much do you think the
- 26:16Speaker 1: players that have barely been in the league will try
- 26:20Speaker 1: and uprise over getting an extra one hundred grand or
- 26:23Speaker 1: something along those lines, right, Because MLB is trying to say, hey,
- 26:26Speaker 1: we're going to give you a little bit more money.
- 26:28Speaker 1: We're going to raise the minimum salary. Now, the sport
- 26:31Speaker 1: keeps increasing by tons of percentage points in terms of revenue,
- 26:35Speaker 1: and that minimum salary should go up anyway, but they
- 26:37Speaker 1: should use that as a bargaining chip. So they're like,
- 26:40Speaker 1: we're going to increase minimum salary and increase incentives for
- 26:44Speaker 1: younger players to try and get them to agree to
- 26:48Speaker 1: some things that we want to change within the sport.
- 26:50Speaker 1: This is the whole dichotomy of trying to crack a
- 26:54Speaker 1: group that has a thousand people versus a group that
- 26:56Speaker 1: has thirty.
- 26:59Speaker 4: I mean, I would hope so young players are not
- 27:01Speaker 4: going to crack over one hundred k, And I know
- 27:04Speaker 4: the life expectancy of a Major League Baseball player somewhere
- 27:06Speaker 4: around three years. So an extra one hundred k for
- 27:09Speaker 4: some guys that get to three year service TID. I mean,
- 27:12Speaker 4: that's three hundred grand. That's a pretty significant amount of
- 27:14Speaker 4: money to them. But I almost just feel like, you know,
- 27:19Speaker 4: when you're on one side of the spectrum, when you're
- 27:21Speaker 4: like a player and you're part of the players Association
- 27:23Speaker 4: and you're going against you know, the owners in Major
- 27:27Speaker 4: League Baseball, it feels very political, and I hate that
- 27:30Speaker 4: we're kind of in this climate. I related a lot
- 27:32Speaker 4: to politics, Like whether you're on one side of the
- 27:35Speaker 4: spectrum of the other, you can still believe that the
- 27:37Speaker 4: other side has maybe potentially some good ideas. And I
- 27:40Speaker 4: just feel like we're at this point where there's some
- 27:43Speaker 4: there's some things in there, and I don't know at
- 27:45Speaker 4: what cost I would trade those things for but I
- 27:47Speaker 4: do believe that there are some things in there that
- 27:50Speaker 4: would make the game a little bit better. I don't
- 27:51Speaker 4: know what the trade off is, but I feel like
- 27:53Speaker 4: the owners would never say it about the player's side.
- 27:56Speaker 4: If they came up with some good ideas, they would
- 27:58Speaker 4: never agree to those ideas good.
- 28:01Speaker 3: I just feel like.
- 28:01Speaker 4: We're in a really tough spot, you know, obviously politically,
- 28:05Speaker 4: but also like when it comes to this, like it's
- 28:07Speaker 4: your way or the other side doesn't matter. Like I
- 28:11Speaker 4: think we're we're obviously out of point too. We've taken
- 28:14Speaker 4: our footballs and gone to the other goalposts when we
- 28:16Speaker 4: should be trying to get, you know, meeting at the
- 28:19Speaker 4: fifty yart line. But you know, it's tough, you know
- 28:22Speaker 4: for me to like see some of the stuff and
- 28:24Speaker 4: really process it. Like I don't want to like speak
- 28:26Speaker 4: out a turn. I'm like, I'm really trying to process
- 28:29Speaker 4: all all this new information that just came out.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and they want to cap the stars. This is
- 28:33Speaker 1: coming in live as we talk. And last thing is
- 28:36Speaker 1: free agents would be limited. This is Jeff Passing tweeting
- 28:38Speaker 1: to five years, two oh two mil on contracts because
- 28:41Speaker 1: all of this is if they take a cap. Otherwise,
- 28:44Speaker 1: none of this even means anything. That's what MLB's main
- 28:46Speaker 1: crux of everything this go around, this fight is about
- 28:50Speaker 1: much more on this. We'll have a guest on it tomorrow.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Be right back.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Well, my puppy has something wrong. I'm not going to
- 29:02Speaker 2: go around googling what to do.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Yeah, Kratz, let's have a better plan. Today's episode is
- 29:06Speaker 1: sponsored by the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Program. It offers
- 29:11Speaker 1: customizable accident and illness plans that can fit your budget,
- 29:13Speaker 1: your lifestyle, and even your pets particular quirks. Because, let's
- 29:17Speaker 1: be honest, vet bills can add up fast. ASPCA Pet

- 29:37Speaker 1: Pet Insurance dot com slash foul. That's ASPCA Pet Insurance
- 29:40Speaker 1: dot com slash foul. Again, that's ASPCA Pet Insurance dot
- 29:44Speaker 1: Com slash foul. This is a paid advertisement. Insurance is
- 29:47Speaker 1: underwritten by either Independent American Insurance Company or United States
- 29:50Speaker 1: Fire Insurance Company and produced by PTZ Insurance Agency Limited.
- 29:54Speaker 1: The ASPCA is not an insurance and is not engaged
- 29:57Speaker 1: in the business of insurance. We have a little turbulence
- 30:00Speaker 1: for your old team, KP. The Braves were swept for
- 30:03Speaker 1: the first time this season. Padres needed it more than
- 30:06Speaker 1: the Braves. Braves, I've lost nine in a row at
- 30:08Speaker 1: Petco Park, They've dropped ten of thirteen. Whatever, I'm not
- 30:11Speaker 1: worried about them. They'll be fun. I actually think they've
- 30:13Speaker 1: got some starting pitching coming back. I forgot about Raynaldo Lopez.
- 30:16Speaker 1: He returns for on a pitch count on Friday, Smith
- 30:18Speaker 1: Shauber working his way back, Hirston waldrip like there's some
- 30:21Speaker 1: depth there. They still need a big boy at the
- 30:23Speaker 1: top along with Sale, et cetera. But KP, what are
- 30:27Speaker 1: you seeing from this team lately? And your concern meter
- 30:31Speaker 1: not for them making the playoffs, but for them being
- 30:33Speaker 1: only four and a half games clear of the Phillies
- 30:35Speaker 1: in the division.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think the Phillies are real concern.
- 30:40Speaker 4: I'm not concerned about the Braves in the long term.
- 30:43Speaker 4: Like you mentioned, I think if anyone would have you know,
- 30:47Speaker 4: said where they were at at this point of the season,
- 30:50Speaker 4: given all the injuries that they had in spring training,
- 30:52Speaker 4: especially to their starting pitching staff, and the fact that
- 30:55Speaker 4: they have had, you know, trouble the last couple of
- 30:58Speaker 4: years staying healthy on the position side, the fact that
- 31:00Speaker 4: Akunya has been in out of the lineup. Drake Baldwin's
- 31:03Speaker 4: missed some time, you know, Murphy missed the beginning of
- 31:06Speaker 4: the year. He came back for like a week, He's
- 31:07Speaker 4: been hurt again. You know, They've kind of just been
- 31:09Speaker 4: patching together a pitching rotation, and they've had superstars in
- 31:14Speaker 4: and out of their lineup this year. I have no concern.
- 31:17Speaker 4: My only concern is I do think the Phillies are
- 31:20Speaker 4: here to stay. I think they are kind of like
- 31:22Speaker 4: a runaway train right now. You know, as much as
- 31:26Speaker 4: it is an advantage to win the division and potentially
- 31:28Speaker 4: have a buy in the first round, I think with
- 31:30Speaker 4: the amount of pitching that the Braves have coming back,
- 31:34Speaker 4: the fact that they have Chris Saale you know, as
- 31:36Speaker 4: their ace, and then just knowing AA, they have the
- 31:39Speaker 4: ability to go out and find another ace as well.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 31:45Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 31:47Speaker 2: That's what he said, that's what he said.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Well, let's start with the headliner, show Hey, Tani said
- 31:54Speaker 1: he has to get more on the same page with
- 31:56Speaker 1: Dalton Rushing and KP Man. Anybody, whether your first day
- 32:01Speaker 1: in the BIGS or you're fifteen years in the bigs,
- 32:04Speaker 1: have you heard that from show Hey A Tani? You'd
- 32:06Speaker 1: be like, ah, that hurts, and Rushing was very accountable,
- 32:10Speaker 1: basically saying he sucks and he's got to be better
- 32:12Speaker 1: about that particular situation. Otani giving up five earned runs
- 32:16Speaker 1: across ten starts this season, with Will Smith catching five
- 32:19Speaker 1: earned runs across ten starts. He's allowed nine with Rushing
- 32:22Speaker 1: behind the plate over the last three games Smith's spin out.
- 32:26Speaker 1: So KPU watched many highlights from this one. Tell me
- 32:29Speaker 1: what was going on to not have them be on
- 32:32Speaker 1: the same page and to get Otani to the point
- 32:35Speaker 1: that postgame, as nice as he is, he did say, hey, like,
- 32:37Speaker 1: we're not on the same page. That's about as mean
- 32:39Speaker 1: as you'll get from someone like show Hey.
- 32:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, there was a there was a couple
- 32:44Speaker 4: you know, close calls and some pivotal times in the game, yes,
- 32:47Speaker 4: they were a little bit earlier in the game, but
- 32:48Speaker 4: they were kind of leverage counts. Runner at third base,
- 32:53Speaker 4: Rushing in nestley catched the ball, you know, very cleanly
- 32:56Speaker 4: in the zone. You know, show Hey thought it was
- 32:58Speaker 4: a pitch worthy of challenge. He went to you know,
- 33:01Speaker 4: challenge it. Rushing was shaking his head. Ultimately, Otani was right.
- 33:05Speaker 4: There was another scenario in the game where looked like
- 33:08Speaker 4: a two seam fastball kind of ran away, you know,
- 33:12Speaker 4: and Rushing kind of went to chase after run scored,
- 33:14Speaker 4: and his body language just you know, wasn't good for
- 33:18Speaker 4: a guy who's young and you got the.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Best player on the planet on the mound.
- 33:21Speaker 4: But you know, I kind of wanted to ask Cratzy too,
- 33:24Speaker 4: is it you know, it feels like.
- 33:27Speaker 3: You have to have a.
- 33:28Speaker 4: Certain type of personality to you know, be a backup
- 33:32Speaker 4: catch it. And I know Rushing right now is the
- 33:34Speaker 4: starting catcher because Will Smith there. It just to me,
- 33:37Speaker 4: you know, he's a young kind of budding star who
- 33:39Speaker 4: has to kind of play second fiddle to Will Smith.
- 33:42Speaker 4: But I mean, you do you see that as being
- 33:44Speaker 4: a challenge because typically the backup catcher is a guy
- 33:46Speaker 4: that isn't really known by the baseball world.
- 33:49Speaker 3: He kind of just does his job.
- 33:50Speaker 4: He can be a little bit of a punching bag
- 33:52Speaker 4: for the starting pitching. He's kind of like a yes man.
- 33:55Speaker 4: He'll take the blame, you know, he would be the
- 33:57Speaker 4: first guy to answer questions be like that's on me,
- 34:00Speaker 4: not on show.
- 34:00Speaker 3: Hey.
- 34:01Speaker 4: But it feels like there's a challenge when you do
- 34:03Speaker 4: have a young kid who's coming up, who's very confident
- 34:06Speaker 4: in his ability. He's very emotional. Am I am, I
- 34:10Speaker 4: seeings correctly correct.
- 34:13Speaker 2: You're spot on. You're spot on with it. And it's
- 34:14Speaker 2: nothing against Dalton Rushing. Every player should think they are
- 34:18Speaker 2: the starting catcher and right now on this team for
- 34:21Speaker 2: the next I think nine more years. Will Smith is
- 34:23Speaker 2: a starting catcher. He has that, he has that contract
- 34:27Speaker 2: that's going to give that to him, and the Dodgers
- 34:29Speaker 2: chose to get rid of Austin Barnes and go with
- 34:32Speaker 2: Dalton Rushing. Is Dalt Rushing a better catcher? Absolutely? Is
- 34:36Speaker 2: Austin Barnes valuable to the team. Absolutely. So that was
- 34:40Speaker 2: where my whole contradiction from what they were doing before,
- 34:44Speaker 2: where they called Dalton Rushing up to be the backup
- 34:47Speaker 2: didn't know how it was going to go. I mean,
- 34:49Speaker 2: the dude was on fire offensively, and so he was
- 34:52Speaker 2: adding so much value to this team. For this to
- 34:55Speaker 2: come out, have any other pitchers come out and said, oh,
- 34:59Speaker 2: I just I can't throw I can't throw an a
- 35:01Speaker 2: Dalton and rushing. No. Are other pictures doing really well? Yes,
- 35:06Speaker 2: So to me, it's just a one picture to that catcher,
- 35:10Speaker 2: and there is pressure. I've caught aces, I've caught future
- 35:13Speaker 2: Hall of Famers that are now currently Hall of Famers,
- 35:16Speaker 2: and it's intimidating as the backup catcher. You watch, Okay,
- 35:20Speaker 2: the starter caught this guy. He throws to them all
- 35:22Speaker 2: the time. Bang starter goes down. Now you're the guy
- 35:25Speaker 2: that has to step in and catch and it's not easy,
- 35:28Speaker 2: and the whole like challenging it and everything. If that's
- 35:32Speaker 2: if that, if that play happens and Robleski's on the mount,
- 35:37Speaker 2: it's way different feeling than it is when Shoheo Tani's
- 35:41Speaker 2: on the mount and then he says, yes, I want
- 35:43Speaker 2: to challenge it, and then you're wrong, and you're like,
- 35:46Speaker 2: oh my gosh, this is just compounding for me. I
- 35:49Speaker 2: love what the Dodgers did. They a lot of the
- 35:52Speaker 2: veterans put their arm around them, helped them out. It's
- 35:55Speaker 2: because they're all with them in those situations. And yes,
- 35:58Speaker 2: you're exactly right, But when you're watching it, what do
- 36:03Speaker 2: you what's your view of backup catchers when you're on
- 36:07Speaker 2: the teams that you were on the best backup catchers.
- 36:10Speaker 2: When you're on those teams.
- 36:12Speaker 4: Great teammates fly under the radar. I mean maybe we
- 36:15Speaker 4: might be the only guy who knows their name, Like
- 36:17Speaker 4: the baseball world doesn't know their name. They fly under
- 36:19Speaker 4: the radar, you know, and they're just students of the game.
- 36:22Speaker 4: Like they either kind of latch on with one starting
- 36:26Speaker 4: you know, pitcher gives you know, your starter a day
- 36:29Speaker 4: off every four days, and he has a really good
- 36:32Speaker 4: working relationship with one guy. And from everything that I've understood,
- 36:36Speaker 4: and I could be wrong in this, cratsy, but when
- 36:38Speaker 4: you were a good backup catcher, you are just trying
- 36:41Speaker 4: to get on the same page with that starting pitcher.
- 36:43Speaker 4: You're trying to get him through that game. You're trying
- 36:46Speaker 4: to put up zeros. Whatever you do offensively is a bonus.
- 36:50Speaker 4: Like you know you're up against eight ball because you're
- 36:52Speaker 4: playing once every five days, more than likely you're probably
- 36:55Speaker 4: going again against the other guy's ace.
- 36:57Speaker 1: You know.
- 36:58Speaker 4: That's I feel like that's how it always happens for
- 37:01Speaker 4: a backup catcher. But yeah, I mean, and some of
- 37:04Speaker 4: those guys probably believe that they were more than a
- 37:07Speaker 4: backup catcher and that they and not to say you
- 37:09Speaker 4: shouldn't be confident in your ability, but you also have
- 37:12Speaker 4: to understand your role in this situation. And right now,
- 37:15Speaker 4: he is the starting catcher. And I've seen it with
- 37:17Speaker 4: other teams when a starter goes down and the backup
- 37:20Speaker 4: comes in and he's got to play every day, there
- 37:22Speaker 4: is this element of potentially being overexposed offensively, pitch framing, whatever,
- 37:27Speaker 4: you know, game calling relationships with him. Some guys are
- 37:30Speaker 4: just better suited for kind of you know, it's almost
- 37:33Speaker 4: like that that sprint you go in once every five
- 37:36Speaker 4: days and you could just play with your hair on
- 37:37Speaker 4: fire and you have it.
- 37:38Speaker 3: But when you have to do.
- 37:39Speaker 4: That every single day, you know, when the starter's out,
- 37:42Speaker 4: you get exposed a little bit.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and I would say, don't rushing again. Is a
- 37:49Speaker 2: starting catcher, and I think he should be a starting catcher,
- 37:52Speaker 2: And so I think this is like, this is different
- 37:54Speaker 2: than talking about me. For me, the one characteristic that
- 37:59Speaker 2: you didn't say about a backup catcher is he has
- 38:02Speaker 2: to be supremely confident, not intimidated, and show none of that.
- 38:07Speaker 2: And I think I'm not saying don't rushing doesn't do that.
- 38:09Speaker 2: I'm saying as a backup catcher, just in general, you
- 38:13Speaker 2: have to understand that when the starter comes back, you're
- 38:16Speaker 2: not going to be in there. It doesn't mean you're
- 38:18Speaker 2: you're not very good. It just means he's better than
- 38:21Speaker 2: you are. And you still have to be confident in
- 38:23Speaker 2: what you can do. And I think there's value in
- 38:26Speaker 2: that as a veteran start, as a veteran backup, that
- 38:30Speaker 2: it adds to teams because catching is really the only position,
- 38:33Speaker 2: I don't care what people say about platooning. Catching is
- 38:36Speaker 2: the only position where you have to get elite production
- 38:40Speaker 2: from two guys as a group. If you were if
- 38:43Speaker 2: you were a j. Percinski's backup catcher, you really got
- 38:46Speaker 2: to do very little. You got to play about twenty
- 38:49Speaker 2: five games if you are you know, I'm trying to think,
- 38:53Speaker 2: you know, they they cut down Will Smith's games, so
- 38:57Speaker 2: you know, maybe they want him to catch about one
- 38:58Speaker 2: hundred and ten hundred and twenty game. So now you
- 39:00Speaker 2: got to have a guy that can catch fifty games.
- 39:03Speaker 2: And so it's different for each team, but you need
- 39:05Speaker 2: to try to get one hundred and sixty two games
- 39:08Speaker 2: out of two guys. And that doesn't happen at any
- 39:10Speaker 2: other position. Think about that. Across the game. It doesn't
- 39:13Speaker 2: happen in any other position, even in platoons. This is
- 39:16Speaker 2: why it's it's crazy. And I think a lot of
- 39:19Speaker 2: starting catchers appreciate what the backup does on really good
- 39:23Speaker 2: teams because they are one in the same because they're
- 39:27Speaker 2: always talking, Hey, last time I caught this guy, last
- 39:29Speaker 2: time I caught show, Hey, this is what I saw
- 39:32Speaker 2: from him. Make sure you're doing this and as a backup,
- 39:34Speaker 2: that is invaluable. And the one last thing I had
- 39:37Speaker 2: to say about backups is if you bring in a
- 39:40Speaker 2: superstar pitcher and you say, oh, well, I need him
- 39:44Speaker 2: to catch this guy? What like to me that that
- 39:48Speaker 2: That was always one of the things that I and
- 39:50Speaker 2: Joe Madden's coming on, and he had this case, actually,
- 39:53Speaker 2: why do I pay one hundred and fifty million dollars
- 39:56Speaker 2: to a superstar pitcher but he needs this backup to
- 39:59Speaker 2: catch in my opinion, the best backups get the most
- 40:03Speaker 2: out of fours and fives in your rotation, and you
- 40:06Speaker 2: let the starter catch the best pitchers, because those are
- 40:09Speaker 2: the guys that, you know what, they should be able
- 40:11Speaker 2: to call their own game. And I have no problem
- 40:12Speaker 2: with Shohey saying, you know what, I'm going to hit
- 40:15Speaker 2: the little PitchCom thing right now and we'll get through
- 40:17Speaker 2: it and we'll slowly learn for the next start, which
- 40:20Speaker 2: Dalton Rushing is going to be out there for.

- 41:28Speaker 1: yesterday said I'm a better gardener than I was a pitcher.
- 41:32Speaker 1: The only thing I enjoyed more than working my garden
- 41:34Speaker 1: was probably protecting one of my teammates, taking pride in
- 41:37Speaker 1: it and doing it right. A fan was like, dude,
- 41:40Speaker 1: with all due respect, there's no way you are a
- 41:42Speaker 1: top five gardener of all time. And I'll take the
- 41:45Speaker 1: other data. You were a really good pitcher. If you
- 41:48Speaker 1: take your percentile of how good you are in human
- 41:51Speaker 1: history at throwing and spinning a baseball versus your percent
- 41:55Speaker 1: tile of how good you are at gardening, I'll take
- 41:59Speaker 1: the pitching advantage. I think as good as you think
- 42:02Speaker 1: you are, you were better on the mound.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Yes, that's fair, that's fair, but he probably didn't think
- 42:08Speaker 2: he was as good. Like there's a confidence, but then
- 42:10Speaker 2: there's also like you're holding yourself to a high standard,
- 42:12Speaker 2: and maybe in gardening he's like I am not once
- 42:16Speaker 2: killing a tomato plant. I wonder if he's a vegetable
- 42:19Speaker 2: gardener or if he's like a flower gardener, because they're different,
- 42:24Speaker 2: two different kinds. I delve into the vegetable gardening part.
- 42:28Speaker 2: I try to grow everything that makes salsa. That's what
- 42:31Speaker 2: I try to grow.
- 42:33Speaker 1: I love that, but also, like, how do you rank
- 42:36Speaker 1: who the best gardeners are? Are you looking for like
- 42:39Speaker 1: the all time gardens or those gardens you know they
- 42:43Speaker 1: have a larger payroll and there's no cap on them.
- 42:46Speaker 1: So it's kind of difficult to weigh that, Like how
- 42:48Speaker 1: do we find out who the best gardeners are?
- 42:51Speaker 2: Success rate? How many plants do you kill? What are
- 42:55Speaker 2: you getting out of the plants that you're Like? Are
- 42:58Speaker 2: your flowers just terrific every year? Are your perennials better
- 43:03Speaker 2: than your annuals that you're buying? Like all that? It all,
- 43:06Speaker 2: it's it's a lot. It's like more we don't.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Know what goes into So you're a rate stats guy
- 43:11Speaker 1: on gardening.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Got it?
- 43:13Speaker 1: Yep, Eric Kratz, you should have grabbed Saren Judges MLB
- 43:20Speaker 1: debut jersey several years. I wasn't.
- 43:23Speaker 2: I wasn't there in sixteen, I wasn't there in sixty.
- 43:26Speaker 2: I was there in a rookie year. But yes, I
- 43:28Speaker 2: should have stolen a lot of things from Aaron Judges.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Bother, it's going to go for three to five million
- 43:36Speaker 1: when it goes up for auction next month. Three to
- 43:39Speaker 1: five million dollars for Aaron Judges first jersey as a Yankee. Yes.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it kills me that he doesn't have that in
- 43:49Speaker 2: his house, I tweeted when this came out. I responded,
- 43:52Speaker 2: it kills me. You should have KP. Do you have
- 43:55Speaker 2: your jersey?
- 43:56Speaker 4: I do, okay, And I think every player I think
- 43:59Speaker 4: every player should. I think there's obviously, I know money
- 44:02Speaker 4: is what makes the world go around, but there's certain
- 44:04Speaker 4: things that are you know, money can't buy for a player,
- 44:09Speaker 4: like getting my first hit baseball. You know, I don't
- 44:12Speaker 4: know what it would have sold for, probably not much money,
- 44:13Speaker 4: but it's invaluable to me.
- 44:15Speaker 2: You know.
- 44:16Speaker 4: I don't crat say if your kid's ever asked you,
- 44:17Speaker 4: And I know this was a question you'd probably asked
- 44:19Speaker 4: your parents a long time ago. You know, if the
- 44:21Speaker 4: house burned down, what's the first thing you would grab?
- 44:23Speaker 4: Like our parents would always would have said photo albums, right,
- 44:26Speaker 4: because those are memories you can't get back. My kids
- 44:28Speaker 4: asked me that same thing, and it's like, obviously, I'm
- 44:30Speaker 4: taking my phone, right because my whole life's on my phone,
- 44:33Speaker 4: photos and everything of a family since.
- 44:34Speaker 3: You were born.
- 44:35Speaker 4: But I'm probably going into my office and I'm probably
- 44:38Speaker 4: taking a couple of those things that I can't replace,
- 44:40Speaker 4: like my first hit, my first homer, like those things
- 44:43Speaker 4: money can't buy. Every player should have those things.
- 44:47Speaker 2: It's a travesty and it's something that owners got really
- 44:51Speaker 2: swept under the rug, the whole memorabilia and the amount
- 44:53Speaker 2: of money. Last I heard it was it passed a
- 44:57Speaker 2: one billion dollar industry for or Major League Baseball owners
- 45:01Speaker 2: that none of that money gets shared with the players.
- 45:04Speaker 2: And this is just a prime example of Steiner had
- 45:07Speaker 2: a contract with the Yankees, and when I was playing there,
- 45:10Speaker 2: a lot of guys would get into it and they'd say, Oh,
- 45:13Speaker 2: that's my debut jersey, and they would be like actually
- 45:16Speaker 2: Steiner owns that jersey now, But you could sign one
- 45:20Speaker 2: hundred items, five hundred items and they'll give that to you.
- 45:25Speaker 2: What like I got to pay for my debut jersey.
- 45:29Speaker 2: I just feel like it's a I feel like it
- 45:32Speaker 2: is a cheap money grab that clearly isn't cheap because
- 45:35Speaker 2: three to five million. But it angered me every time
- 45:39Speaker 2: I saw it because every other place it's different. But hey,
- 45:42Speaker 2: you know what money makes the world around.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Like you said, KP, did you guys see this one
- 45:46Speaker 1: totally snuck under the radar, But I will not let
- 45:48Speaker 1: it get past this show. Abner Uribe accepted his suspension
- 45:52Speaker 1: from eight years ago when he did the DX sign
- 45:56Speaker 1: to the Cardinals. Remember eight years ago when he did that, Well,
- 46:00Speaker 1: they appealed it, and then when he was used like
- 46:04Speaker 1: in every game for a week, he was like, Okay,
- 46:07Speaker 1: I'm tired and run the road too, So you got
- 46:09Speaker 1: the road taxes and all that, I'll take I'll take
- 46:12Speaker 1: the day off. Let's do that. So it's just the
- 46:14Speaker 1: one of the more archaic processes of all time. Yeah,
- 46:17Speaker 1: that one snuck through. Don't worry, I did not miss
- 46:19Speaker 1: that one. I kind of live for notes like that
- 46:22Speaker 1: because it grinds my gears. Guys, we're in twenty twenty six.
- 46:25Speaker 1: When someone appeals something, get the damn job done in
- 46:28Speaker 1: like twenty four hours, right, I mean it's been weeks.
- 46:31Speaker 1: I forgot that thing even existed. People were replying to
- 46:34Speaker 1: the tweet like, wait, what when was that? And I
- 46:37Speaker 1: think hobby done is really quickly.
- 46:40Speaker 4: When you said eight years ago, I really started going
- 46:42Speaker 4: back eight years my brain, like what did we do
- 46:45Speaker 4: eight years ago? But then, I mean it feels like
- 46:48Speaker 4: it right, because that's that was like a very hot topic,
- 46:51Speaker 4: like I remember seeing it, but like I would have
- 46:53Speaker 4: sworn he had already served it, like or they appealed
- 46:56Speaker 4: it and they.
- 46:56Speaker 3: Said no suspension. The fact that he's.
- 46:58Speaker 4: Doing it this far on the road, it's insane. Why
- 47:02Speaker 4: we can't get anything done. That's why we can't get
- 47:03Speaker 4: any deals done either. You can't even get an appeal
- 47:07Speaker 4: done within three weeks.
- 47:09Speaker 1: And this is on everyone, right, Like this on the league,
- 47:11Speaker 1: that is on the player association, like the little stuff
- 47:15Speaker 1: the minutia needs to get figured out in a CBA too,
- 47:18Speaker 1: And I know they work on some of those things.
- 47:20Speaker 1: They sometimes they'll work on some of those things before
- 47:23Speaker 1: they get the big part done, but this is one
- 47:25Speaker 1: of them. Hey, guys, can we get an appeal process
- 47:28Speaker 1: done like instantly virtually because otherwise relievers never really get penalized.
- 47:34Speaker 1: They just wait for a day when they're down. What
- 47:41Speaker 1: am I missing? How stupid is this? They even have a.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Oh, it's definitely dumb, but it'll never because there's two
- 47:51Speaker 2: sides that are trying to fight for each side's rights,
- 47:54Speaker 2: and you can't make a precedent out of this.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Then don't do a suspension of one game like it
- 48:01Speaker 1: has actual no meaning to a reliever if it's a
- 48:04Speaker 1: player that goes every single game every day, if it's
- 48:07Speaker 1: Matt Olsen or Pete Alonzo, yeah, you actually lost a
- 48:09Speaker 1: real game right to a guy that plays every day.
- 48:12Speaker 1: But otherwise it's so David win a share of five
- 48:17Speaker 1: hundred grand and bonus bets for every US goal plays
- 48:19Speaker 1: a five dollars or more pre match bet on any
