- 0:51Speaker 2: Get him on X at BillBender92, the sporting news. And,
- 0:54Speaker 2: of course, they'll have you covered wire to wire for
- 0:56Speaker 2: college football.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Bill, it's here.
- 0:57Speaker 2: College football, I know you're on a short schedule, sir. And,
- 0:59Speaker 2: of course, your schedule will tell you. We're about to
- 1:01Speaker 2: kick off and play ball.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, but, hey, I like talking to you
- 1:06Speaker 1: every week. So thanks for fitting me in. Let's get
- 1:09Speaker 1: to it.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 1:10Speaker 2: All right, so, Bill, let's go tomorrow night. We're not
- 1:12Speaker 2: even going to talk the LSU stuff. We'll talk LSU Clemson.
- 1:14Speaker 2: But when you look at tomorrow night, Colorado versus Georgia Tech,
- 1:18Speaker 2: that's a game where Georgia Tech is a pretty big favorite.
- 1:21Speaker 3: That totals at 50-and-a-half. It's a big year for Deion Sanders.
- 1:25Speaker 2: You know, I saw a stat the other day that
- 1:26Speaker 2: said they had lost somewhere around 60% to 65% of their,
- 1:29Speaker 2: you know, collective viewing eyeballs since the time he arrived
- 1:33Speaker 2: in Colorado. Can they make a game of this tomorrow
- 1:35Speaker 2: night against Georgia Tech?
- 1:37Speaker 1: I think so. They need a quarterback to play the match.
- 1:39Speaker 1: They didn't have that last year. Colorado quarterbacks averaged 17 touchdowns,
- 1:44Speaker 1: 11 interceptions. The year before, Shador threw 37 touchdowns. So
- 1:48Speaker 1: for all of the jokes about Shador Sanders, there's no
- 1:51Speaker 1: doubt he was a really good college quarterback. And then
- 1:54Speaker 1: on the other side, looking to see how Alberto Mendoza
- 1:56Speaker 1: does in place of Haynes King. And then they have
- 2:01Speaker 1: Justin Haynes. He's a home run hitting running back. That
- 2:05Speaker 1: should be a fun game. The spread looks funny. I
- 2:07Speaker 1: think it's going to be a competitive, fun game.
- 2:10Speaker 2: This is with Bill Bender talking college football. Of course,
- 2:13Speaker 2: kickoff is tomorrow, Wednesday edition of the program. All right, Bill,
- 2:16Speaker 2: Friday is typically in college. We always say this all
- 2:18Speaker 2: the time.
- 2:18Speaker 3: It's weird.
- 2:19Speaker 2: You can't really kind of put a finger on it,
- 2:21Speaker 2: but something happens on those Friday ball games. Is there
- 2:24Speaker 2: any Friday game? where there's a potential upset. Maybe Stanford
- 2:28Speaker 2: taking on Miami. Miami's a big favorite. Or Fresno State
- 2:32Speaker 2: gives USC a ballgame on those Friday night ballgames.
- 2:35Speaker 1: You're right. I mean, you always catch a Friday night
- 2:38Speaker 1: home dog. They get it done. I am interested to
- 2:41Speaker 1: see how Stanford builds on that season opening win against Miami.
- 2:44Speaker 1: A team with a game under their belt at home.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Miami's flying all the way across the country with Darian Mensah.
- 2:50Speaker 1: So there could be... That could be fun, and I
- 2:54Speaker 1: think it will be fun, but Miami will win. It's
- 2:57Speaker 1: really hard, Jake, this weekend to find that upset. There
- 3:02Speaker 1: probably will be one. It's college football, but it is
- 3:04Speaker 1: a brutal week in terms of point spread. When you
- 3:07Speaker 1: look in the average point spread for top 25 teams,
- 3:10Speaker 1: not even counting the FCS ones, it's like 26 points
- 3:13Speaker 1: per game.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and look, one that may fly under the radar.
- 3:17Speaker 2: What about Toledo? They're getting 10 against Michigan State. Could
- 3:20Speaker 2: Toledo maybe come out with a win against a Big
- 3:22Speaker 2: Ten team.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Yeah, they got a fun coach too. Mike Jacobs, their
- 3:26Speaker 1: new coach that replaced Jason Candle. They'll be ready to play.
- 3:31Speaker 1: And so Fitz, that is one that if you're looking, maybe.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Michigan State's made a tradition of that Friday night home opener.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I think Pat Fitzgerald breathed a little bit of a
- 3:41Speaker 1: new life into them. But Toledo's solid program, solid team.
- 3:44Speaker 1: So that could be interesting. You know, other than that,
- 3:47Speaker 1: going to watch Oklahoma on Friday night. Big game there
- 3:51Speaker 1: for them. Not a big game. I mean, a tune-up
- 3:53Speaker 1: for them. to get ready for Michigan. So we'll see
- 3:56Speaker 1: a healthy John McPier again.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Auburn hosts Baylor.
- 3:59Speaker 2: D.J. Lagway coming back to the SEC in week one
- 4:03Speaker 2: with Dave Aranda. Dave Aranda has said offseason, Florida kept
- 4:07Speaker 2: him in a box. They kept him in a straight jacket.
- 4:09Speaker 2: We're going to unleash D.J. Lagway, Byron Brown, Alex Golish, Auburn.
- 4:14Speaker 2: They've got the home crowd behind them. Any chance Baylor
- 4:17Speaker 2: can keep this close?
- 4:19Speaker 1: I think they will. I mean, they did a better
- 4:22Speaker 1: team last year, right? I think they did win that game, right?
- 4:25Speaker 1: I'm blanking right now. Pretty sure Baylor beat them last
- 4:28Speaker 1: year in Waco. Alex Gullish has been... A really hot
- 4:34Speaker 1: name for Auburn this offseason. I love his press conferences.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I love his personality. I think he's the guy to
- 4:40Speaker 1: bring that program back into the light a little bit.
- 4:43Speaker 1: And it might take some time. So that is one
- 4:46Speaker 1: of those games that might get lost in the shuffle
- 4:49Speaker 1: a little bit. But the momentum around that Auburn football
- 4:52Speaker 1: program is headed in the right direction.
- 4:55Speaker 2: LSU, Clemson, with all of the drama around LSU, with
- 4:59Speaker 2: everything that's going on at the SEC in court tomorrow,
- 5:01Speaker 2: LSU is a 10-point favorite today against Clemson. Clemson's kind
- 5:06Speaker 2: of been written off here. This is the lowest ranking
- 5:08Speaker 2: we've seen in some time in the preseason for Clemson,
- 5:10Speaker 2: the lowest odds to win the national title, the lowest
- 5:13Speaker 2: of everything.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Can Clemson get into the fourth quarter, Bill?
- 5:16Speaker 2: And Saturday night, all of America is now dialed in
- 5:21Speaker 2: outside of LSU, probably rooting for for for Clemson and
- 5:24Speaker 2: Davos Sweeney to pull that off my.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Buddies are you know in Big Ten country and you're
- 5:29Speaker 1: talking about Ohio State Notre Dame few few Michigan and
- 5:32Speaker 1: Michigan State fans sprinkled in there all root for Davos
- 5:35Speaker 1: I mean it's it's wild because for years that wasn't
- 5:39Speaker 1: the case up here um so yeah I mean they're
- 5:42Speaker 1: gonna have to run the football better they only had
- 5:44Speaker 1: a 31 rushing yards against LSU last season. So they're
- 5:48Speaker 1: definitely going to have to do that a little bit
- 5:49Speaker 1: better to have a chance to make it a fourth
- 5:51Speaker 1: quarter game. Could be fun though. You know, LSU, you
- 5:56Speaker 1: never know how it's going to go with all those transfers.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Sam Levitt coming off the foot injury. Ken Clemson dial
- 6:01Speaker 1: up pressure, especially on the defensive line. Saw Dabo's press
- 6:06Speaker 1: conference this week. And yeah, it is. This is the
- 6:11Speaker 1: bizarre world we live in, Jake, where we're rooting for
- 6:13Speaker 1: Dabo now up here in the north.
- 6:16Speaker 3: There's no doubt.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Ole Miss taking on Louisville on Sunday. And, of course,
- 6:19Speaker 2: the Rebs are a seven-point favorite. This is a really
- 6:21Speaker 2: good Louisville team. They won nine ballgames last year. They
- 6:24Speaker 2: had three of the four losses that they had came
- 6:26Speaker 2: within less than a field goal. They can return a
- 6:28Speaker 2: pretty good running back. They've got a good coaching staff.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Can they take this game into the fourth quarter and
- 6:33Speaker 2: scare the daylights or even pull out a win against
- 6:35Speaker 2: Ole Miss?
- 6:36Speaker 1: I think they could, but I like that Ole Miss backfield. Sorry,
- 6:40Speaker 1: I almost called an LSU. I know who's coaching where.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Ole Miss, because I like Trinidad and Keewan so much.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I think they are the best battery made backfield in
- 6:50Speaker 1: the country. I like their defense. Carnero, good weapon in
- 6:53Speaker 1: a game like this, kick up the field goals. But
- 6:56Speaker 1: all that said, I like Louisville too. So this is
- 6:59Speaker 1: a really tough game for me because I spent the
- 7:01Speaker 1: summer talking about what an ACC sleeper Louisville could be.
- 7:05Speaker 1: So I think they can make this fourth quarter game,
- 7:07Speaker 1: still give them the advantage to Ole Miss. And, uh,
- 7:11Speaker 1: you know, I'm a little upset. It's up against, uh,
- 7:15Speaker 1: Notre Dame, Wisconsin at the same time, because I want
- 7:17Speaker 1: to watch both of these games equally.
- 7:19Speaker 3: No, there's no doubt.
- 7:20Speaker 1: One more.
- 7:20Speaker 2: We'll get you on your way. SMU, Florida state, uh,
- 7:23Speaker 2: SMU is a slight favorite three and a half. I mean,
- 7:24Speaker 2: it's a big one. That's, that's an understatement for Mike Norvell.
- 7:27Speaker 2: If they win the seat kind of cools, Kevin Jennings,
- 7:30Speaker 2: SMU come in. They've shown they're not scared of anybody
- 7:33Speaker 2: in the ACC. They're the favorite for, for a reason here.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Can they, can they deliver on that being the favorite?
- 7:39Speaker 1: Oh, we're going to find out. Um, I'm leery of
- 7:42Speaker 1: this game for a couple reasons. One, because everybody's kind
- 7:44Speaker 1: of ripping on Florida State. They still ran the ball effectively.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Last time they played SMU, they got worn out. And
- 7:50Speaker 1: they are at home at Labor Day. And it's kind
- 7:52Speaker 1: of a back-against-the-wall moment for Mike Norvell and that program
- 7:56Speaker 1: and that massive buyout that we keep talking about. So
- 8:00Speaker 1: I think Florida State, I would not be surprised if
- 8:04Speaker 1: they won. But, Jake, I just can't do it. I
- 8:06Speaker 1: think SMU is the better team. I think they've got
- 8:10Speaker 1: the better quarterback, and that will show up even in
- 8:12Speaker 1: a nasty environment down there in Tallahassee. Give me the Mustangs. But,
- 8:17Speaker 1: like I said, that's the one that I'm like, you know, yeah,
- 8:20Speaker 1: you have that second thought in the back of your head.
- 8:22Speaker 1: That's the one I feel like this weekend.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Bill Bender, get him on X. Check him out at
- 8:26Speaker 2: the Sporting News as we get him on his way.
