- 0:00The relationship that you have with
- 0:01Google is inherently adversarial,
- 0:03where it is not necessarily
- 0:04adversarial with Meta.
- 0:05And the reason it's adversarial with
- 0:06Google is because Google is a
- 0:08monopoly, and they don't really have
- 0:11a direct impact on
- 0:11search query volume, right?
- 0:13Like the amount of people who are
- 0:14going to search for tennis shoes in
- 0:15any given month is
- 0:16relatively set, right?
- 0:18Like they can't really impact that.
- 0:20And so brand is like this
- 0:21stereotypical example, and we see it
- 0:23with brands of all sizes, even from,
- 0:26you know, seven-figure brands to
- 0:28ten-figure brands.
- 0:29You go into their Google Ads
- 0:30account, and it's very rare that
- 0:33brand and non-brand is
- 0:34truly fully segmented apart.
- 0:37And it has to be.
- 0:38YouTube today is kind of like Meta
- 0:40in 2015, where, you know, you do the
- 0:431% lookalike audience, right?
- 0:45Like we on this call all old enough
- 0:47to remember the old lookalike
- 0:49audience stacks
- 0:49and things like that.
- 0:51So you do have to do
- 0:52audience targeting there.
- 0:53But that's kind of like the lowest
- 0:56form of YouTube advertising.
- 0:59And now let's take a listen to the
- 1:07Scalability School podcast.
- 1:10All right.
- 1:11Welcome to another episode of
- 1:12Scalability School.
- 1:13Incredible guest today.
- 1:16Longtime friend of the podcast.
- 1:18Longtime friend of mine and somebody
- 1:20who I deeply respect and love.
- 1:22Colin Slattery, the Google Ads
- 1:24expert of D2C
- 1:25Twitter, I would say, right?
- 1:26I mean, can we name you that?
- 1:28What do we think about that?
- 1:29I'll take it.
- 1:29It's a moniker I'll
- 1:30happily wear for sure.
- 1:32The person that people are willing
- 1:34to fight with about
- 1:35Google Ads on the Internet.
- 1:37Whether they are
- 1:38employed by Google or not.
- 1:40Yeah, exactly.
- 1:40Who actually is smart and can
- 1:42respond back to them.
- 1:44Colin, so glad to have you.
- 1:46Colin's been an expert in the
- 1:47Founders community on Google Ads for
- 1:49a really long time.
- 1:50And then a couple of years ago,
- 1:52hired the best in
- 1:53the game, Phil Kiel.
- 1:55Previous Scalability School guest.
- 1:57Now has an absolute empire that is
- 2:01being built at Tyken Digital.
- 2:03So we're stoked for you about that.
- 2:05Good job.
- 2:05Thanks.
- 2:06And thanks for having me on.
- 2:07Excited to check Google.
- 2:10Excited to hopefully dispel some
- 2:13myths and share a little bit of
- 2:15knowledge in the process.
- 2:15Google is kind of like the ugly
- 2:17stepchild of DTC Twitter.
- 2:19People don't want to talk about it.
- 2:20It seems like you're one of the few
- 2:21people that want to talk about it.
- 2:23And I feel like it needs to be
- 2:24talked about more because I
- 2:24personally have a ton of questions.
- 2:26Because I'm curious
- 2:27how you think through it.
- 2:29I know you have strong
- 2:29opinions, which is good.
- 2:31Because I don't think enough people
- 2:32have strong enough
- 2:33opinions that are also thoughtful.
- 2:35And you have both.
- 2:37You have both.
- 2:37So I'm excited to dig in.
- 2:39I feel like there's a whole other
- 2:40episode at some point.
- 2:41We just talk about everything that
- 2:42you're building agency-wise.
- 2:43Maybe we've got to get Phil and the
- 2:45gang back together and
- 2:46just talk about that.
- 2:47Get Jake on here too.
- 2:48Yeah.
- 2:48Yeah.
- 2:48Yeah.
- 2:49Might as well.
- 2:49Yeah.
- 2:49Jake the ad nerd.
- 2:50The OG.
- 2:51He's in the game now too.
- 2:52Yeah.
- 2:52We'll have to get the whole crew on.
- 2:54But yeah.
- 2:54Excited to jam Google today.
- 2:56Yeah.
- 2:57I think it's going
- 2:57to be a lot of fun.
- 2:58And excited to dive in.
- 3:01Maybe some hot takes.
- 3:03Or lukewarm takes anyway.
- 3:05Well, we can kick it off with the
- 3:07nice original great starting point.
- 3:11I thought it would
- 3:11be interesting too.
- 3:12I know Zach, I was looking back on
- 3:14this tweet from like almost a year.
- 3:15It's almost a year ago now.
- 3:16It was actually June of last year.
- 3:17It feels like it was just yesterday
- 3:18that Zach was shitting on
- 3:20all Google ads agencies.
- 3:21But I thought this was
- 3:22a good starting point.
- 3:23And so Zach's tweet, I'll
- 3:24probably summarize this.
- 3:25But Zach kind of started by saying,
- 3:27if you're a DTC brand, being your
- 3:28Google ads agency more
- 3:29than 10K a month, you are very
- 3:31likely getting robbed.
- 3:33Zach is known to
- 3:35take strong positions.
- 3:36Usually with good reason.
- 3:38Usually with good reason.
- 3:39But sometimes he has strong takes.
- 3:41And so we don't have to spend a
- 3:43bunch of time dispelling this.
- 3:45But just curious if you have a kind
- 3:47of quick take on your
- 3:49feeling of, I guess, maybe the
- 3:51average Google ad agency and what
- 3:53you guys do differently
- 3:54that helps set you apart.
- 3:55Well, obviously, I
- 3:57think that's bullshit.
- 3:58And I said as much around that time
- 4:00and the engagement was fun.
- 4:02And I know Zach loves to throw bombs
- 4:04out there and then
- 4:05turn around and walk away.
- 4:08But yeah, no, I mean,
- 4:10that's clearly not true.
- 4:11Right.
- 4:11And I actually would say that Google
- 4:14in particular is one of the places
- 4:17where investment in top
- 4:20quality talent is even more
- 4:22paramount because of the difficulty
- 4:25and the number of dark patterns
- 4:27that exist in the platform.
- 4:30This gets to a foundational concept
- 4:32around the differences
- 4:35between Google and Meta.
- 4:37And one of those is that the
- 4:39relationship that you have with
- 4:40Google is inherently adversarial,
- 4:42where it is not necessarily
- 4:44adversarial with Meta.
- 4:45And the reason it's adversarial with
- 4:47Google is because
- 4:48Google is a monopoly.
- 4:50And they don't really have a direct
- 4:52impact on search query volume.
- 4:54Right.
- 4:54Like the amount of people who are
- 4:56going to search for tennis shoes in
- 4:57any given month is
- 4:59relatively set.
- 5:01Right.
- 5:01Like they can't really impact that.
- 5:03And they already
- 5:05have the full market.
- 5:06They can't get any
- 5:07more market share.
- 5:08And so the only thing that they can
- 5:10do and speaking primarily around
- 5:12search and shopping and
- 5:13things like that is increase the
- 5:15amount of money that they get paid
- 5:17for the queries that
- 5:19already exist.
- 5:20That's the only lever that they have
- 5:22to pull to increase
- 5:23how much money they make.
- 5:24They're a publicly traded company.
- 5:25They're in the
- 5:26business of making money.
- 5:27Right.
- 5:28And when they are increasing the
- 5:30costs, that is born
- 5:32by the advertiser.
- 5:34Meta, on the other hand, has the
- 5:36ability to impact their inventory in
- 5:39a way that Google
- 5:40does not.
- 5:40Right.
- 5:41They can increase the frequency of
- 5:44ads in reels or your feed.
- 5:47They can make the
- 5:48product more addictive.
- 5:49So people scroll deeper so they can
- 5:51be exposed to more ads.
- 5:53Right.
- 5:54And so fundamentally, Google is not
- 5:56playing nicely with advertisers
- 5:59because it is in their
- 6:01best interest to.
- 6:03Take money from advertisers.
- 6:07And so if you have someone who
- 6:08doesn't know what they're doing and
- 6:10doesn't know Google's
- 6:11dark patterns, it is very easy for
- 6:14Google to be an absolute waste of
- 6:17money because that's
- 6:19good for them.
- 6:20Right.
- 6:20Because they need to make money.
- 6:23So if you don't have someone who's
- 6:25excellent, and admittedly, there are
- 6:27not that many excellent
- 6:28people out there, it's going to be a
- 6:31non-incremental waste fest.
- 6:34And I think that's what most people
- 6:36run into because they're working
- 6:39with people who don't
- 6:40know how to do it or
- 6:41they're working with people who are
- 6:42meta first and the rules between
- 6:44meta and Google are completely
- 6:45different.
- 6:46And then they're
- 6:47like, oh, Google's trash.
- 6:48Everyone who does Google is trash.
- 6:50And screw this.
- 6:53I'm known for taking notes.
- 6:54And the first thing I wrote down is
- 6:55Zach equals skill issue.
- 6:57So that's what I heard
- 6:58from section number one here.
- 7:00It is, in fact, a skill issue.
- 7:03A hundred percent.
- 7:04Good.
- 7:04Good.
- 7:04Well, I'm sure Zach will hear this
- 7:06and we'll remind him.
- 7:07But that segues nicely into like,
- 7:09OK, so then what can brands that are
- 7:13listening to this do and
- 7:15take away to actually start to make
- 7:17Google a channel that
- 7:19is effective for them?
- 7:20Because I think a
- 7:20lot of people will.
- 7:21I mean, our average, the average
- 7:23client that we work with has Google
- 7:25and there's brand set up in
- 7:28some capacity.
- 7:28Whether or not it's incremental,
- 7:30there's a bunch of
- 7:30questions around that.
- 7:31And yeah, right.
- 7:33And you mentioned you mentioned
- 7:34there's there's probably different
- 7:36things to consider, certainly
- 7:38across industries and how you should
- 7:39consider across industries, but even
- 7:41account spend and
- 7:42size.
- 7:42And so I think if you could just
- 7:45start to kind of take people through
- 7:46like what what is the
- 7:47actual account setup
- 7:48and structure look like?
- 7:49How does it change as you scale?
- 7:51I think that could be a really
- 7:52interesting starting point to just
- 7:53kick off, you know, where people
- 7:54can start to get
- 7:55some tactical takeaways.
- 7:56Yeah, and I think this is this gets
- 7:59back to the size and
- 8:02complexity of Google, which is
- 8:03material.
- 8:04It's a materially more complex
- 8:05platform than meta is.
- 8:07There's a lot more stuff going on
- 8:08and there's a lot of
- 8:09stuff going on that.
- 8:12Is beneficial to Google, but
- 8:14detrimental to the advertiser.
- 8:15And I think if people are.
- 8:20Looking to succeed on Google, I
- 8:22think that is a mindset shift that
- 8:24needs to happen where
- 8:26when you are in there, the.
- 8:30Everything you look at, you need to
- 8:31think this is set up in order to
- 8:33benefit Google and
- 8:34not benefit me.
- 8:36So you should be very skeptical of
- 8:38anything that Google recommends.
- 8:39Right.
- 8:39And we're kind of that way with meta
- 8:41when they're like auto apply all of
- 8:43these AI enhancements
- 8:45and shit like that.
- 8:46But those are much more visible in
- 8:49meta than they are in Google.
- 8:51And so you absolutely have to be
- 8:54approaching it with that mindset and
- 8:57trying to make it
- 8:59harder for Google to succeed.
- 9:03And so brand is like this
- 9:04stereotypical example.
- 9:05And we see it with brands.
- 9:08Of all sizes, even from, you know,
- 9:12seven figure brands to 10 figure
- 9:13brands, you go into their
- 9:14Google ads account and it's very
- 9:17rare that brand and non brand is
- 9:19truly fully segmented
- 9:22apart.
- 9:23And it has to be because if you say
- 9:26I want a five X right.
- 9:28And you put brand in there, right,
- 9:33that's going to generate a 20 X.
- 9:35And then Google is
- 9:35like, cool, we got a 20.
- 9:37We banked the 20 X here.
- 9:39That means we can waste money on
- 9:41stuff that doesn't perform.
- 9:42It'll average out to a five.
- 9:44And the advertiser is
- 9:46happy because it says a five.
- 9:48But they haven't dug that layer
- 9:50below and seen all those conversions
- 9:53are happening to brand.
- 9:5580% of the budget is 10% of the
- 9:58conversion value and 10% of the
- 9:59budget is 90% of the
- 10:01conversion value.
- 10:02And blended, it looks great.
- 10:04They run a holdout test on it.
- 10:05Like, hey, this is
- 10:06not incremental at all.
- 10:07Like we chopped our Google and
- 10:09nothing happened.
- 10:10It's like, well, yeah, of course.
- 10:11It's because your brand and non
- 10:13brand are blended together.
- 10:14And so if there is one thing that
- 10:18people take away, get them split
- 10:21apart completely, right?
- 10:23And split in search.
- 10:25So negative it out in
- 10:27all your non brands.
- 10:28If you want to run it, put in its
- 10:30own manual CPC search campaign.
- 10:33But you have to do it
- 10:33on shopping too, right?
- 10:35Like shopping inventory serves
- 10:36against brand queries.
- 10:38And so if you're not segmenting out
- 10:41branded queries and shopping,
- 10:43if you don't have a
- 10:44branded shopping campaign,
- 10:45all that's going to roll into your
- 10:47Pmax is going to roll into your
- 10:48regular shopping.
- 10:49And it's going to be the same
- 10:50problem that you would have with
- 10:51search as Justin Shopping.
- 10:53That is, I think, the biggest
- 10:55problem and also the
- 10:58easiest problem to fix.
- 11:00Is that a one-time thing?
- 11:01Or do you have to
- 11:01check it regularly?
- 11:02Because Google is trying to jam
- 11:03brand back into things
- 11:04or brand adjacent things.
- 11:06So if you do a good job with your
- 11:08negative keyword list,
- 11:10you're going to get 99% of it out.
- 11:14It's not going to
- 11:15cover all misspellings.
- 11:16And so it does make sense so much in
- 11:17a while go through and negative out
- 11:19the misspellings.
- 11:21When you launch new campaigns,
- 11:22you do need to apply the negative
- 11:23keyword list to the campaign.
- 11:26But it's mostly a one-time, 30
- 11:31minutes max sort of activity.
- 11:35So there's a lot of brands.
- 11:38Brad was saying there's a lot of
- 11:38small brands or smaller brands that
- 11:40listen to this podcast.
- 11:41And I think, you know, have always
- 11:44wanted to test Google.
- 11:45And I think people
- 11:45get excited about brand.
- 11:49They get excited about launching
- 11:50Google and they get excited about
- 11:51launching YouTube ads as well.
- 11:54So when you're looking at those
- 11:57brands that you've
- 11:58worked with in the last,
- 12:00let's just say 12 months, because I
- 12:02know it changes over time.
- 12:04What are they doing?
- 12:05What's the mix of brand, non-brand?
- 12:08Are they doing shopping?
- 12:10Are they doing YouTube?
- 12:12What does that mix look like?
- 12:13And what are the things that you've
- 12:14seen be truly incremental to their
- 12:17results and their growth?
- 12:19I'm going to say something, and
- 12:20maybe this is my first hot take,
- 12:21even though it's not a hot take
- 12:22because it's driven by data.
- 12:23Google and YouTube done well are the
- 12:27most incremental advertising that
- 12:29any brand will ever have,
- 12:30period, full stop, done.
- 12:33We've done this with nine-figure
- 12:34brands where 87% of the traffic
- 12:38coming from YouTube is
- 12:39net new to the brands,
- 12:41whereas Meta is
- 12:41sitting around like 60, 62%.
- 12:43Google and YouTube are so
- 12:48incremental and expose so many
- 12:52people to traffic
- 12:55that is nowhere else.
- 12:58There are 34 million Americans that
- 13:01are not on Meta properties,
- 13:04are not on TikTok,
- 13:06are not in any other
- 13:07digital properties,
- 13:08but YouTube.
- 13:09Literally, the only place you can
- 13:11reach these 34 million
- 13:12people are on YouTube.
- 13:14Totally net new,
- 13:15do not exist anywhere else.
- 13:17They're only on YouTube.
- 13:19And you can reach them there, right?
- 13:20And so,
- 13:22and that's just the people that
- 13:23aren't anywhere else, right?
- 13:24It's not even counting the people
- 13:25that you don't reach
- 13:26because they're not in a
- 13:26conversion-focused audience
- 13:27in Meta or anything like that.
- 13:30So,
- 13:32massively, massively, massively,
- 13:34massively incremental.
- 13:35It's just set up
- 13:36poorly most of the time.
- 13:38Now,
- 13:39to kind of like loop
- 13:40back and it's like,
- 13:40okay, well, how do you
- 13:41make Google incremental?
- 13:43Well,
- 13:44one is,
- 13:44it's get brand and non-brand
- 13:46separated, right?
- 13:48And then what you're doing is
- 13:49different based on the scale
- 13:51of the brand and where
- 13:52your budget allocation is.
- 13:53The first thing I'd say is like,
- 13:56don't run brand at all.
- 13:57Like negative it out and
- 13:58then don't have it running,
- 14:00period.
- 14:01And I think Zach will probably agree
- 14:03with me on that, right?
- 14:04It's generally a waste of money.
- 14:06And it's one of the very first
- 14:08holdout tests that we run
- 14:09with any client that comes on,
- 14:12whether it's Meta in
- 14:13Google or just Google only,
- 14:14is like,
- 14:15let's test brand,
- 14:17like see if it's incremental
- 14:17because it's usually not.
- 14:21And it's something
- 14:21you can just turn off,
- 14:22which is great, right?
- 14:23If you can allocate
- 14:24that budget to things,
- 14:25put it as a YouTube shorts instead.
- 14:27Like what a better way to do it.
- 14:30So if you can get away
- 14:32with not running brand,
- 14:33don't run brand.
- 14:34And then the structure is like,
- 14:39it's going to be pretty consistent,
- 14:42but the budget
- 14:42allocations will be different.
- 14:43So non-brand shopping or like a
- 14:48non-brand shopping Pmax,
- 14:51right?
- 14:52Non-brand search.
- 14:53And then if you are running brand,
- 14:55brand search,
- 14:56brand shopping,
- 14:56and then some degree
- 14:58of demand gen shorts
- 15:01as kind of like the
- 15:03third component of that.
- 15:05So,
- 15:05you know,
- 15:06we're looking at
- 15:07three to five campaigns
- 15:08as kind of like the
- 15:10default structure.
- 15:12When do you,
- 15:13so then,
- 15:14okay,
- 15:14so that's for everybody.
- 15:16So what is scaling it out look like?
- 15:18Is it horizontally
- 15:19adding more campaign
- 15:20by product,
- 15:21product category?
- 15:22Is it just scaling it
- 15:23up by cranking budgets
- 15:24and sending it to the moon?
- 15:26Obviously,
- 15:27YouTube is probably
- 15:27handled fairly differently
- 15:29because there's a
- 15:29creative component to it,
- 15:31whether that's shorts
- 15:32or just,
- 15:32you know,
- 15:33general YouTube placements.
- 15:35So you can pick either side,
- 15:37maybe Google is the place to start
- 15:38and then work over to YouTube.
- 15:40But like,
- 15:40what is actually,
- 15:41what does it look
- 15:42like to start scaling up
- 15:44the Google side?
- 15:45Yeah.
- 15:45So I think
- 15:46the easiest scale to
- 15:49unlock is shopping,
- 15:50right?
- 15:50It's the shopping inventory.
- 15:53And it's easy,
- 15:56but it's not simple
- 15:58because what
- 15:59dictates how shopping works
- 16:00is really the structured data
- 16:02that you're giving Google,
- 16:05right?
- 16:05So it's the quality
- 16:06of your product feed.
- 16:08It's the descriptions.
- 16:09It's the images.
- 16:11It's the secondary images.
- 16:14The color data,
- 16:15the size data.
- 16:16It's how optimized your titles are,
- 16:19right?
- 16:19It's making sure that
- 16:20there aren't price mismatches
- 16:21or any other issues
- 16:22that are impacting
- 16:23the quality of the data
- 16:26that is being fed to Google
- 16:27because that's how Google decides,
- 16:29oh,
- 16:31this is,
- 16:31this is,
- 16:33you know,
- 16:33a blue sneaker,
- 16:35right?
- 16:35It's,
- 16:36well,
- 16:36you have to give them all that data.
- 16:37And so if someone
- 16:37searches for blue sneaker,
- 16:39right,
- 16:39you want to show up for that.
- 16:40And so the only way
- 16:42you're going to show up
- 16:42is if you have good,
- 16:43clean data.
- 16:44And reviews are another huge
- 16:46component of that.
- 16:47People are going to go,
- 16:49they're going to
- 16:50search for blue sneakers.
- 16:52What's going to get surfaced
- 16:53and what's going to get clicked on.
- 16:54Stuff that has good data
- 16:55so that Google knows
- 16:56that's what you're selling.
- 16:57And then things that
- 16:58have a lot of reviews
- 16:59because that's a trust signal
- 17:01and people are going to click on it.
- 17:02And so feeding Google good data
- 17:06is going to impact
- 17:08how much shopping volume
- 17:12you're going to be able to acquire.
- 17:13And then there are other parts
- 17:17that obviously brands can't control.
- 17:18So like if you,
- 17:19the larger your SKU library,
- 17:21the greater the
- 17:22surface area you can cover.
- 17:24And so generally
- 17:24the higher the scale
- 17:26that you can conceivably get.
- 17:30Similarly to that,
- 17:32the better your
- 17:32business economics are,
- 17:34right?
- 17:34If you think about
- 17:35search impression share,
- 17:36like a pie
- 17:37or a hundred percent of search
- 17:39impression share,
- 17:40like no business is going to be able
- 17:43to economically monetize
- 17:44a hundred percent of search
- 17:45impression share.
- 17:46But if your
- 17:47economics are not so good,
- 17:48right?
- 17:48If your revenue per session
- 17:50is generally pretty low
- 17:51or your margins are pretty low,
- 17:53like the percentage of
- 17:55the search impressions
- 17:57where you can profitably target it,
- 18:00it's going to shrink.
- 18:01And so
- 18:02your business
- 18:05metrics also like dictate
- 18:06kind of the scale
- 18:07that you can achieve
- 18:08on shopping as well.
- 18:10But
- 18:12there's a ton of scale
- 18:13in shopping.
- 18:15Friends,
- 18:16quick break.
- 18:16This episode of Scalability School
- 18:17is brought to you by
- 18:18Northbeam Incrementality,
- 18:21which honestly is so awesome.
- 18:23Let me just tell you
- 18:23a little bit about it.
- 18:24If you're a marketer,
- 18:25you probably agree
- 18:26incrementality testing is broken.
- 18:28It's insane.
- 18:29You got to do all this crazy stuff.
- 18:31But with Northbeam,
- 18:31you do it right in the platform.
- 18:33It builds tests
- 18:34using your own MTA data,
- 18:36launches them directly
- 18:37in the ad platform
- 18:38and automatically monitors them
- 18:40throughout the test.
- 18:42And if something threatens validity,
- 18:44you're alerted to it
- 18:45within Northbeam
- 18:46before it ruins the results.
- 18:49The really nice thing
- 18:50is it solves all these problems
- 18:51you hear about
- 18:52incrementality testing
- 18:53all the time,
- 18:54like labor,
- 18:55spreadsheets,
- 18:55statistical reference,
- 18:56designing tests
- 18:57is normally so slow,
- 18:58right,
- 18:59and error prone.
- 19:00So with Northbeam Incrementality,
- 19:01it's automated and accurate
- 19:03and your team
- 19:04is able to spend
- 19:05with confidence.
- 19:07Give it a shot
- 19:07with Northbeam Incrementality.
- 19:10Really,
- 19:10the future of incrementality
- 19:11is here
- 19:12and Northbeam
- 19:12has figured out a way
- 19:13to make it easy.
- 19:15So, I mean,
- 19:15it's interesting,
- 19:16you know,
- 19:16I've never heard somebody
- 19:17give the case
- 19:18for shopping that heavily,
- 19:19so that's interesting.
- 19:20I think you've had this thing
- 19:21about called
- 19:21hidden search terms
- 19:23and you have a framework
- 19:24of Google inventory,
- 19:27which is premium,
- 19:29mid-tier,
- 19:29and garbage.
- 19:30And that's what,
- 19:31this is,
- 19:32you know,
- 19:32taken from your word.
- 19:33So talk about
- 19:34hidden search terms
- 19:35and the research
- 19:36around this
- 19:37and what things
- 19:39folks can do
- 19:39to bring some
- 19:40of these search terms
- 19:41out that maybe
- 19:42they weren't,
- 19:43you know,
- 19:44aware,
- 19:44ever familiar with
- 19:45in terms of targeting.
- 19:47And this is,
- 19:47again,
- 19:48this gets to the whole,
- 19:49there's additional layers
- 19:50underneath Google
- 19:52that when you just
- 19:53look at it,
- 19:55it's painting
- 19:56a very small picture
- 19:58of what's actually
- 19:59going on.
- 20:00so keywords
- 20:02and search terms
- 20:03are not even
- 20:05remotely the same thing,
- 20:07right?
- 20:07It's like,
- 20:07oh,
- 20:08well,
- 20:08you know,
- 20:09I'm targeting blue shoes.
- 20:11Like,
- 20:11that's the keyword
- 20:12that I'm targeting.
- 20:12That's what I'm bidding.
- 20:13It's just like,
- 20:14no,
- 20:14that can match
- 20:15to hundreds
- 20:16of different search queries
- 20:17that are somewhat related
- 20:20to completely unrelated
- 20:22depending on your match type,
- 20:24right?
- 20:24And so those are
- 20:25the search terms
- 20:25that surface.
- 20:27And so those are the things,
- 20:28search terms are what people
- 20:29are actually typing
- 20:30into Google to find
- 20:31and then your ad
- 20:32is surfing against,
- 20:33right?
- 20:34And Google,
- 20:35up until,
- 20:36I think it was probably
- 20:362020,
- 20:37like 2021,
- 20:38I can't remember
- 20:39the exact year.
- 20:39At this point,
- 20:40it was a while ago.
- 20:41They used to show
- 20:4295%
- 20:45of all of the terms
- 20:47that people typed in
- 20:48to,
- 20:49that surfaced your ad.
- 20:50So you'd have
- 20:5195% visibility,
- 20:5390 to 95% visibility
- 20:54in everything
- 20:55that people searched for
- 20:55that your ad surfed against.
- 20:57And for privacy reasons,
- 21:01they decided
- 21:03to hide
- 21:04a huge percentage
- 21:06of the search terms
- 21:08that people searched for
- 21:09that your ad surfed against.
- 21:10And they lumped them together
- 21:11in what is known
- 21:12as other search terms,
- 21:14which you can't see
- 21:16what they searched for.
- 21:17You can only see
- 21:18a single line
- 21:19of the aggregated performance
- 21:20of what is hidden.
- 21:22And that's a problem,
- 21:23right?
- 21:23Like you're paying for it.
- 21:25You should know
- 21:25what people are searching.
- 21:26And the performance
- 21:27of the stuff
- 21:28that is hidden
- 21:28is generally
- 21:29worse than
- 21:31what is visible.
- 21:33And that's because
- 21:34in my estimation,
- 21:37right,
- 21:37it behooves Google
- 21:38to hide the stuff
- 21:39that people would
- 21:40try to exclude
- 21:41if it's not related.
- 21:44Right?
- 21:44If my keyword is,
- 21:46you know,
- 21:46blue shoes
- 21:47and,
- 21:49you know,
- 21:50the matching is
- 21:51blue tablecloth,
- 21:53like,
- 21:54that's
- 21:55not related.
- 21:56Right?
- 21:57But you can get
- 21:58matches that are
- 21:59that far away.
- 22:01It's actually
- 22:02pretty shocking
- 22:03how not close
- 22:05search terms
- 22:06can be to the keyword
- 22:07that triggered them.
- 22:08And now that they
- 22:09can hide those,
- 22:11it's easier for you
- 22:12to keep bidding on them
- 22:13as opposed to
- 22:14historically,
- 22:15you know,
- 22:16turn them into
- 22:16negatives and remove them.
- 22:18Yeah.
- 22:18You put together
- 22:19like a pretty
- 22:20gnarly report,
- 22:21like actually
- 22:21digging into this.
- 22:22Do you have any
- 22:23of the numbers
- 22:23like handy
- 22:24out of the top
- 22:24of your head
- 22:24that you can
- 22:25just like rip off?
- 22:26Or is that
- 22:27a little bit
- 22:27too specific?
- 22:28I mean,
- 22:29do you want,
- 22:29I have the report
- 22:30somewhere probably.
- 22:31Pull it up.
- 22:31Yeah.
- 22:32If it's not,
- 22:32if it's not a huge
- 22:33pain to pull up,
- 22:34I'd be super curious
- 22:34to dig into that
- 22:35because I remember
- 22:36reading it
- 22:36I'm pretty sure
- 22:37that,
- 22:37is that what
- 22:38Ginny responded to?
- 22:40And I do want to note
- 22:42this is only for
- 22:44search campaigns
- 22:46and shopping campaigns
- 22:47where you have
- 22:48full search
- 22:49career report
- 22:49data available.
- 22:50But we looked at
- 22:51around $20 million
- 22:52in ad spent
- 22:54in search
- 22:55and shopping spent
- 22:56and found that
- 22:57for every
- 22:59dollar of ad
- 23:00spent
- 23:01that you are
- 23:03running through Google,
- 23:04they're skimming
- 23:05almost a full dollar.
- 23:06off of your efficiency
- 23:09with hidden search terms.
- 23:10So,
- 23:11if you were to spend
- 23:14a million dollars
- 23:16on ads
- 23:17and everything
- 23:18was visible,
- 23:19you would generate
- 23:19about $5.6 million
- 23:20in revenue.
- 23:21In reality,
- 23:22you're only generating
- 23:23about $4.75
- 23:24million in revenue.
- 23:26And that $850,000
- 23:27shortfall
- 23:28is due to the
- 23:29inefficiency
- 23:30of
- 23:31hidden search terms.
- 23:33Yeah.
- 23:34So you're looking at
- 23:34like
- 23:34a 5.6x
- 23:36for visible
- 23:37versus
- 23:39a
- 23:394.75
- 23:40for
- 23:41full blend
- 23:42including
- 23:43hidden.
- 23:44Like worst case scenario,
- 23:45historically,
- 23:46before this change,
- 23:47you could just
- 23:47exclude them
- 23:48and,
- 23:49okay,
- 23:49I've excluded them,
- 23:50I'm not wasting money
- 23:50on them.
- 23:51And now,
- 23:52it's just being
- 23:53lumped in there.
- 23:54And so,
- 23:55what you're saying
- 23:56is best case scenario,
- 23:57you can actually
- 23:57exclude them
- 23:58and then the additional
- 23:58spend,
- 23:59you'd be able to continue.
- 24:00You're spending that money
- 24:01anyway,
- 24:01so it's going to be
- 24:02spent at that more
- 24:03efficient return number.
- 24:06Am I understanding
- 24:06that correctly?
- 24:08Well,
- 24:08I mean,
- 24:08you can't get rid
- 24:09of the stuff that's hidden,
- 24:10right?
- 24:10For sure.
- 24:11Stuff is always
- 24:11going to be hidden
- 24:12and it is a game
- 24:14of whack-a-mole
- 24:15to consistently
- 24:16exclude things
- 24:17to try and pull
- 24:17up efficiency numbers.
- 24:18You can aggregate
- 24:20data through
- 24:21what's known
- 24:22as Ngram analysis
- 24:23to pull stuff
- 24:25out of hidden,
- 24:27like,
- 24:27and exclude stuff
- 24:28that would otherwise
- 24:29be lumped into
- 24:30hidden search terms.
- 24:32Generally,
- 24:33hidden search terms
- 24:33are stuff
- 24:35that Google
- 24:36categorizes
- 24:38as, like,
- 24:38low volume,
- 24:39right?
- 24:40So it's not getting
- 24:41a lot of volume
- 24:42against those queries
- 24:43and so those
- 24:45are generally
- 24:45going to be
- 24:45longer tail
- 24:46search queries
- 24:47and by longer tail,
- 24:48I mean,
- 24:48more words
- 24:49in the query.
- 24:51And so
- 24:51you can aggregate
- 24:53what is visible
- 24:54and find terms
- 24:55that are
- 24:56low performing
- 24:57and when you
- 24:58exclude those,
- 25:00it will also
- 25:01generally pull out
- 25:02stuff that was
- 25:04hidden
- 25:05that also included
- 25:06that term
- 25:06that is
- 25:08not effective.
- 25:10Not usually
- 25:10going to get
- 25:11like a lower
- 25:13percentage
- 25:14of hidden
- 25:15but you can
- 25:16reduce the
- 25:18inefficiency
- 25:18overall
- 25:19by going
- 25:21through and
- 25:21pulling stuff
- 25:22out.
- 25:23Cool.
- 25:23Personally,
- 25:24I'm very
- 25:24interested in
- 25:25like the
- 25:25actual
- 25:26tactical levers
- 25:27of,
- 25:28okay,
- 25:28we can dig
- 25:28into shopping.
- 25:29Andrew,
- 25:30if you're cool
- 25:30with going
- 25:31down that route,
- 25:32I'm just going
- 25:32to start ripping
- 25:32some questions.
- 25:34Absolutely.
- 25:34Feel free to
- 25:35take it wherever
- 25:36direction you want
- 25:37to.
- 25:37So you mentioned
- 25:38you've kind of
- 25:38got like four
- 25:40to five campaigns
- 25:40that are standard.
- 25:41I think we'll
- 25:43ignore the brand
- 25:43side of this
- 25:44completely for now
- 25:44because I think
- 25:45your basic
- 25:45TLDR is like
- 25:47turn it off
- 25:47or highly
- 25:48limit the spend
- 25:49that's going
- 25:50into it at all
- 25:50if you're going
- 25:51to spend into it
- 25:52and just be
- 25:53thoughtful around
- 25:53that.
- 25:54If you're in a
- 25:55vertical where you
- 25:55need to spend
- 25:56on brand,
- 25:57you'll know
- 25:57because it's
- 25:58the exception.
- 26:00Fair.
- 26:01Cool.
- 26:01Maybe worth
- 26:02coming back to
- 26:03that because
- 26:03that's interesting.
- 26:04But then shopping
- 26:06is where you're
- 26:07seeing the majority
- 26:07of the volume.
- 26:08You said every
- 26:09brand could spend
- 26:09six figures.
- 26:10It's kind of
- 26:11like a take.
- 26:12So as people
- 26:13are thinking about
- 26:14setting up shopping,
- 26:15you said the
- 26:16biggest lever
- 26:16is kind of
- 26:17just like the
- 26:18inputs to Google
- 26:19which is
- 26:20functionally the
- 26:20feed and maybe
- 26:21some offshoots
- 26:22of that.
- 26:22So what are
- 26:23brands doing wrong
- 26:24when they set up
- 26:25their shopping?
- 26:25You mentioned
- 26:26the title and
- 26:27the actual data
- 26:28is not set up
- 26:29properly.
- 26:30So let's say
- 26:31that they are
- 26:31starting to chip
- 26:32away at updating
- 26:33that and maybe
- 26:34their 80%
- 26:35of what you
- 26:35call like this
- 26:36is a good
- 26:37input.
- 26:38The feed is
- 26:39solid.
- 26:39What's like
- 26:40what's still
- 26:40missing?
- 26:41And then if
- 26:42they wanted to
- 26:43increase spend
- 26:43volume through
- 26:44shopping,
- 26:44like what are
- 26:45they actually
- 26:45doing?
- 26:45It is actually
- 26:46I should say
- 26:47is one of the
- 26:47biggest challenges
- 26:48with Google
- 26:49is because
- 26:50everything is
- 26:53different depending
- 26:54on small
- 26:56changes in a
- 26:57brand, right?
- 26:57Like if you
- 26:58have 10,000
- 26:59SKUs, like
- 27:00your approach
- 27:01is going to be
- 27:02completely different
- 27:03than if you
- 27:04have 50 or
- 27:05100 SKUs
- 27:06or 10 SKUs,
- 27:07right?
- 27:08And so the
- 27:10feed is table
- 27:11stakes, right?
- 27:12And having that
- 27:13fully optimized
- 27:14and I will say
- 27:14like most people
- 27:16just connect their
- 27:16Shopify feed to
- 27:17Google Merchant
- 27:18Center and
- 27:18they're like,
- 27:19I'm done,
- 27:19right?
- 27:20Like, no.
- 27:22And if that is
- 27:22you, like, go get
- 27:24data feed watch.
- 27:25It's not that
- 27:25expensive.
- 27:26It's going to
- 27:27allow you to
- 27:28really optimize your
- 27:28Google fields,
- 27:29which is super
- 27:31important.
- 27:32And we're
- 27:32going to
- 27:32assume you
- 27:32have reviews
- 27:33piping in
- 27:33because that's
- 27:34also very
- 27:34important.
- 27:35Shopping from
- 27:36a structural
- 27:36level and I
- 27:37think Google
- 27:38in general,
- 27:40and this is
- 27:41something that
- 27:42we've seen
- 27:42time and time
- 27:43again on
- 27:44search, on
- 27:45shopping,
- 27:45absolutely on
- 27:46YouTube.
- 27:47Google is not
- 27:48nearly as
- 27:49efficient a
- 27:50budget allocator
- 27:51as Meta.
- 27:53And so, so
- 27:54many people come
- 27:55from the Meta
- 27:56space where it's
- 27:56like, trust
- 27:57Meta, they
- 27:58know what they're
- 27:59doing, go
- 28:00broad, like drop
- 28:01it all
- 28:01together, right?
- 28:04You cannot do
- 28:05that with Google.
- 28:06You're going to
- 28:06have a bad
- 28:07time if you're
- 28:08doing that with
- 28:08Google.
- 28:09And that
- 28:10extends to
- 28:12shopping as
- 28:13well.
- 28:13And then you
- 28:15need segmentation
- 28:16and you need
- 28:18thoughtful segmentation
- 28:19in order to
- 28:20unlock volume.
- 28:22What this
- 28:23segmentation
- 28:23looks like is
- 28:25really dependent
- 28:26on number of
- 28:28SKUs and
- 28:30business
- 28:31priorities.
- 28:31If you're
- 28:32a retailer
- 28:34and you
- 28:34carry a
- 28:35hundred brands,
- 28:36your shopping
- 28:37structure is
- 28:38going to look
- 28:38materially different
- 28:39than if you're
- 28:39a supplement
- 28:40company and
- 28:41you've got
- 28:4120 SKUs.
- 28:42Just try the
- 28:42example,
- 28:43though, Colin,
- 28:43of let's say
- 28:44there's this
- 28:45lower amount
- 28:45of SKUs,
- 28:4620 SKUs.
- 28:47How are they
- 28:48structured?
- 28:48Are they
- 28:48structured based
- 28:49on which
- 28:50one's driving
- 28:51the best
- 28:53revenue for
- 28:54you with the
- 28:54best gross
- 28:55margin?
- 28:55How do you
- 28:57start to
- 28:57structure that?
- 28:58I think the
- 28:59initial structuring
- 29:00that you're
- 29:00going to want
- 29:00to do,
- 29:01and again,
- 29:01this is a
- 29:01phase one,
- 29:02is you have
- 29:04one campaign
- 29:05and you have
- 29:06ad groups
- 29:07in the
- 29:08shopping campaign
- 29:09that are
- 29:10segmented either
- 29:11by a
- 29:12category or
- 29:13if you have
- 29:14really very
- 29:15few products,
- 29:16you can even
- 29:17segment them
- 29:18individually.
- 29:19So you're a
- 29:20supplement company,
- 29:21you have
- 29:22supplements for
- 29:24digestion and
- 29:25supplements for
- 29:26sleep, right?
- 29:27You can break
- 29:27them up into
- 29:28those individual
- 29:29categories and
- 29:30then make sure
- 29:31that you have
- 29:32negative keywords
- 29:33at the ad
- 29:33group level to
- 29:35make sure that
- 29:35you're routing
- 29:36queries to the
- 29:36correct ad
- 29:38groups.
- 29:38So that's kind
- 29:39of like a
- 29:39we're just
- 29:40getting started
- 29:42structure.
- 29:43And then
- 29:44once you have
- 29:46that running,
- 29:46you're going to
- 29:47start to see,
- 29:47okay, this
- 29:49product is
- 29:49potentially working
- 29:50really well and
- 29:51performing really
- 29:52well.
- 29:53Maybe that's
- 29:54something where
- 29:55you actually
- 29:55can, and
- 29:56we've done
- 29:57this, like
- 29:57we'll have a
- 29:59shopping campaign
- 30:00with just a
- 30:00single product in
- 30:01it so that
- 30:02it's not
- 30:03competing for
- 30:05budget with
- 30:06the other
- 30:07products in
- 30:08that campaign.
- 30:10It's not super
- 30:10common where
- 30:11we'll fully pull
- 30:12out an
- 30:12individual product,
- 30:13but it'll
- 30:14happen.
- 30:15Over time,
- 30:16breaking the
- 30:17campaigns apart
- 30:18based on by
- 30:20performance and
- 30:21like bucket
- 30:22them together
- 30:23really into
- 30:24like four
- 30:25main structures
- 30:27which are like
- 30:27high spend,
- 30:28high performing,
- 30:30high performing,
- 30:31low spend,
- 30:33just low
- 30:35performing,
- 30:36and then like
- 30:36no spend,
- 30:38right?
- 30:39And so,
- 30:40you know,
- 30:41you don't want
- 30:42like your top
- 30:4310% of SKUs
- 30:44to be competing
- 30:46for budget
- 30:46with the 80%
- 30:49of SKUs
- 30:50that get 2%
- 30:51of the total
- 30:51clicks,
- 30:52right?
- 30:52It's historically
- 30:54called, you
- 30:56know, heroes,
- 30:56sidekicks,
- 30:57villains, and
- 30:58zombies, right?
- 30:58It's kind of
- 30:59the four
- 30:59monikers for
- 31:01the different
- 31:01structures.
- 31:03And you
- 31:03break them
- 31:04all apart.
- 31:05And SKUs
- 31:05can shift in
- 31:06between the
- 31:07different campaigns,
- 31:08but the
- 31:09reasoning behind
- 31:11that is
- 31:12Google's budget
- 31:13allocation is
- 31:14not incredibly
- 31:15efficient.
- 31:16And if
- 31:18you're lumping
- 31:18them together,
- 31:19you're just
- 31:19leaving money
- 31:20on the table.
- 31:22But the
- 31:23first segmentation
- 31:24starts in
- 31:25an individual
- 31:25campaign at
- 31:26kind of the
- 31:27accurate level
- 31:27by grouping
- 31:28products separately.
- 31:29And grouping,
- 31:30does grouping
- 31:30the products
- 31:30on its own
- 31:31give to your
- 31:33point?
- 31:33Because it
- 31:34helps Google
- 31:34sort out
- 31:36delivery a bit
- 31:36better because
- 31:37you're inserting
- 31:38kind of an
- 31:38opinion into
- 31:39how that should
- 31:40be structured.
- 31:41Does that
- 31:41alone add
- 31:42more volume?
- 31:43Or is it,
- 31:45hey, we need
- 31:45to split these
- 31:45things up and
- 31:46then we go
- 31:46edit product
- 31:48titles to have
- 31:49more, you know,
- 31:49like, are we
- 31:50trying to increase
- 31:50the search volume
- 31:51by getting more
- 31:52keywords?
- 31:52Like, I'm like,
- 31:53very tactical as
- 31:54somebody who's not
- 31:56running Google
- 31:56accounts.
- 31:57Like, so you're
- 31:59segmenting those
- 31:59things, but like,
- 32:00what else is the
- 32:01team doing on a
- 32:01weekly basis to
- 32:02try and drive
- 32:03more volume?
- 32:05Yeah, so I
- 32:05mean, you're also
- 32:06removing inefficient
- 32:07search terms,
- 32:09right?
- 32:10that's just an
- 32:10ongoing negative
- 32:12keyword application
- 32:15is an ongoing
- 32:16piece of work
- 32:18in Google,
- 32:19on shopping,
- 32:20on search,
- 32:20everywhere.
- 32:21Product optimization,
- 32:22title testing,
- 32:23that is also a
- 32:24key component of
- 32:25it because,
- 32:27again, like,
- 32:28you operate
- 32:29under the
- 32:30understanding that
- 32:32there is a
- 32:32finite amount
- 32:33of search volume
- 32:35for whatever it
- 32:36is that you're
- 32:37doing, right?
- 32:38And when you
- 32:39find things that
- 32:39work, you want
- 32:41to be getting a
- 32:42high, as high a
- 32:43click share as you
- 32:43possibly can.
- 32:45So optimizing to
- 32:47try and maximize
- 32:47your click share,
- 32:49generally, like,
- 32:50it's through titles,
- 32:50it's through more
- 32:52reviews, price,
- 32:55obviously, also a
- 32:56component to it,
- 32:57using promotional
- 32:58things, promos to
- 33:00get the sort of
- 33:02slash through and,
- 33:04like, sale tags and
- 33:05things like that.
- 33:05And then adjusting
- 33:06targeting, right?
- 33:07And that's one of
- 33:07the added benefits
- 33:08there, too, is,
- 33:09like, if you have
- 33:10things broken up,
- 33:11you can have a
- 33:12specific target for,
- 33:14you know, mascara,
- 33:16whereas blush has a
- 33:18completely different
- 33:19target and you can
- 33:20control those
- 33:21efficiency targets
- 33:22individually.
- 33:23Yeah.
- 33:24What role do
- 33:25images play in
- 33:26shopping?
- 33:26Like, are you guys
- 33:27testing images
- 33:28consistently or is it
- 33:29not a big lever?
- 33:31Generally, like,
- 33:31pretty strict
- 33:32limitations around
- 33:34images in
- 33:35Google.
- 33:37rules around, like,
- 33:39not having texts
- 33:40on the images,
- 33:41like, not putting
- 33:42promotional information
- 33:43on images in the
- 33:45feed.
- 33:46So most things do
- 33:48default to
- 33:49white box.
- 33:50You can include
- 33:50lifestyle images
- 33:51as well.
- 33:53There are fields for
- 33:54lifestyle images that
- 33:56always worth doing.
- 33:57Basically, and this is
- 33:59another general rule,
- 34:00if there's an
- 34:00optional field that
- 34:01you can use, it's
- 34:03not optional.
- 34:03Just use it, right?
- 34:05Like, the more
- 34:06optional things you
- 34:07include, the better
- 34:08your feed score is
- 34:10going to be in
- 34:11Google's estimation
- 34:12and the more
- 34:14opportunity you have
- 34:15to surface.
- 34:16So there's not a
- 34:18ton that you can do
- 34:19from an image
- 34:20standpoint in terms
- 34:21of testing.
- 34:22You can do a
- 34:24little bit, but
- 34:26it's tough.
- 34:28We've had clients
- 34:29where their product
- 34:30is in a box and the
- 34:32box has text on it
- 34:33and they'll reject
- 34:34the image because
- 34:37of the amount of
- 34:37text that's on the
- 34:38box.
- 34:39I hate to host this
- 34:39phrase, but it's kind
- 34:40of phrased this way
- 34:41intentionally, but like,
- 34:41is there anything
- 34:42hacky in shopping that
- 34:43you can do that
- 34:44consistently works?
- 34:45Like, you know,
- 34:46there's this theme on
- 34:48Meta for a while
- 34:48where everybody did
- 34:49the we're sorry kind
- 34:51of ad in that
- 34:51positioning.
- 34:52Like, there's a
- 34:52format that pops up
- 34:53that you can just
- 34:54run that playbook
- 34:55across brands and it
- 34:56works very consistently.
- 34:57Is there any
- 34:58comparable on the
- 34:59Google side, whether
- 35:00it's like hacky
- 35:01feeling?
- 35:01Maybe it's specific to
- 35:02shopping, maybe not.
- 35:03Not really.
- 35:05And I would say
- 35:06that in general,
- 35:07like, it's not
- 35:09how we like to
- 35:11approach advertising.
- 35:13Whatever arbitrage
- 35:14exists, I mean,
- 35:15you're opening
- 35:15yourself up to
- 35:17potential issues
- 35:18down the road.
- 35:20You know, like,
- 35:23there was a time
- 35:23where you could
- 35:24like, get promo
- 35:26text onto images
- 35:28by, you know,
- 35:31making it less
- 35:31obvious and
- 35:32tricking the
- 35:33sort of machine
- 35:34to think it
- 35:34wasn't there,
- 35:35even though it
- 35:35clearly was.
- 35:37And you're just
- 35:38going to get your
- 35:38feet suspended
- 35:39and you're going
- 35:39to have to redo
- 35:40all the work.
- 35:40So, you know,
- 35:41I generally
- 35:42operate on the
- 35:43do things the
- 35:45right way
- 35:45principle and
- 35:47you're going to
- 35:48be in good
- 35:49shape.
- 35:50Brad's always
- 35:50trying to hack
- 35:51an idea, you
- 35:52know.
- 35:52Look, I'm just,
- 35:53you know, you
- 35:54never know what
- 35:55exists to me.
- 35:55I'm the anti-hack
- 35:56guy.
- 35:56I'm the let's
- 35:57do it by the
- 35:58book and, you
- 36:00know, always be
- 36:00on the right
- 36:01side.
- 36:02I also lean that
- 36:02direction, but,
- 36:03you know, sometimes
- 36:04people like, you
- 36:05know, a little
- 36:05sauce every once
- 36:06in a while.
- 36:07Do not invite the
- 36:08eye of Sauron,
- 36:09you know.
- 36:10That's fair.
- 36:12So let's just
- 36:13talk about YouTube
- 36:13briefly in going
- 36:16through that, right?
- 36:16I think this is a
- 36:18place where people
- 36:18are doing a ton
- 36:19with taking stuff
- 36:21from meta, putting
- 36:22it on shorts.
- 36:24What do you see
- 36:25that works, that
- 36:26drives incremental
- 36:27results for folks
- 36:29and how do you
- 36:30think they should
- 36:31approach YouTube?
- 36:32How much time
- 36:32do we have?
- 36:34YouTube is the
- 36:35most complex
- 36:36place to
- 36:38advertise and
- 36:39the hardest place
- 36:39to advertise in
- 36:40digital.
- 36:41And YouTube
- 36:42is like six
- 36:45or seven
- 36:46different things,
- 36:49right?
- 36:49So like when we
- 36:50talk about YouTube,
- 36:51I mean, we're
- 36:51talking about so
- 36:53many different
- 36:53things.
- 36:54And so, you
- 36:55know, I'll start
- 36:56with kind of the
- 36:58the low, lowest
- 36:59of low-hanging
- 37:00fruit, which is
- 37:01that YouTube
- 37:01shorts thing.
- 37:02It's the demand
- 37:03gen conversion
- 37:04focused YouTube
- 37:05shorts component
- 37:06where you can
- 37:07take your
- 37:08high-performing
- 37:099x16 video
- 37:10assets from
- 37:12meta, put them
- 37:14in a demand
- 37:15gen campaign,
- 37:16and run it
- 37:18purely on
- 37:18YouTube shorts
- 37:19placement.
- 37:21You know, get
- 37:22kind of click
- 37:23based, pretty
- 37:24good click
- 37:24based attribution
- 37:25out of it.
- 37:26you do have
- 37:28to do
- 37:28audience
- 37:28targeting.
- 37:29That's one
- 37:29of the things
- 37:30to remember.
- 37:31You know, I
- 37:31always say like
- 37:32YouTube today
- 37:34is kind of
- 37:35like meta
- 37:36in 2015
- 37:37where, you
- 37:38know, you
- 37:38do the 1%
- 37:39lookalike
- 37:40audience, right?
- 37:41Like we
- 37:42were on
- 37:44this call
- 37:44all old
- 37:45enough to
- 37:45remember the
- 37:46old lookalike
- 37:47audience stacks
- 37:48and things
- 37:49like that.
- 37:50So you do
- 37:51have to do
- 37:51audience
- 37:52targeting there.
- 37:53But that's
- 37:54kind of like
- 37:54the lowest
- 37:56form of
- 37:59YouTube
- 37:59advertising.
- 38:00Do you have
- 38:00any issues
- 38:02with the
- 38:02measurement on
- 38:03shorts?
- 38:03Like, is it
- 38:04cool?
- 38:05Like, do you
- 38:05trust what
- 38:06YouTube is
- 38:06reporting on
- 38:07shorts enough?
- 38:08Or, like, I'm
- 38:09thinking of the
- 38:09brand that's
- 38:10not paying
- 38:11house.
- 38:12I'm sure
- 38:12house is
- 38:12fantastic.
- 38:13I know they're
- 38:14fantastic.
- 38:14But like,
- 38:15just a quick
- 38:16sidebar on
- 38:17measurement of
- 38:18shorts.
- 38:19It sounds like
- 38:19it's low-hanging
- 38:20fruit, but
- 38:20what about the
- 38:21measurement side?
- 38:23So, shorts
- 38:24measurement is
- 38:26okay, but
- 38:27not amazing.
- 38:29And Google
- 38:32is, it's
- 38:35always going to
- 38:35be under
- 38:36counting the
- 38:38efficacy of
- 38:38shorts.
- 38:39And I will
- 38:39say this very
- 38:41declaratively.
- 38:44If you don't
- 38:46have the
- 38:46ability to
- 38:48do holdout
- 38:48testing, do
- 38:49not spend a
- 38:50dollar on
- 38:50YouTube outside
- 38:51of shorts.
- 38:52Shorts is the
- 38:52only place you
- 38:53can spend
- 38:53money.
- 38:54Do not
- 38:55do in
- 38:55feed, do
- 38:56not do
- 38:56in
- 38:56stream, do
- 38:57not do
- 38:57CTV, do
- 38:58not do
- 38:58any of
- 38:59it.
- 38:59Like, if
- 39:00you are
- 39:00not doing
- 39:01holdout
- 39:01testing,
- 39:03don't spend
- 39:04money on
- 39:05sort of
- 39:05traditional
- 39:06YouTube.
- 39:07Just only
- 39:07spend money
- 39:08on shorts
- 39:08because that's
- 39:09the place
- 39:09where you're
- 39:09going to
- 39:10get some
- 39:11click-based
- 39:12attribution
- 39:13and the
- 39:15rest of the
- 39:15YouTube
- 39:16inventory.
- 39:17And this
- 39:17is why
- 39:17YouTube
- 39:17inventory is
- 39:18so mispriced,
- 39:19right?
- 39:19It's like,
- 39:20it is hard
- 39:20to measure.
- 39:21You do
- 39:22really need
- 39:22to be doing
- 39:22those holdout
- 39:23tests.
- 39:25So, stay
- 39:26in shorts
- 39:27and don't
- 39:28venture out
- 39:29of the
- 39:29shallow
- 39:30waters into
- 39:31the deep
- 39:31end of
- 39:32YouTube.
- 39:33I mean, I
- 39:33think it's a
- 39:34matter, I
- 39:34think that's
- 39:35good about the
- 39:35measurement and
- 39:36making sure that
- 39:37you have a plan
- 39:37for measurement
- 39:38and makes a ton
- 39:39of sense.
- 39:40To me, it's one
- 39:40of these things
- 39:41that you hear
- 39:41people talking
- 39:42about.
- 39:42They don't
- 39:43really know how
- 39:43to set it up,
- 39:44right?
- 39:44I think a lot
- 39:45of people spend
- 39:45a lot of time
- 39:46optimizing their
- 39:47meta ads
- 39:47accounts.
- 39:48And I
- 39:48think YouTube
- 39:49is a place
- 39:50that takes a
- 39:50lot of energy
- 39:51and attention
- 39:51and people
- 39:52just want to
- 39:53repurpose stuff,
- 39:54which you can
- 39:55do to a degree,
- 39:56but I guess I'm
- 39:57just curious of
- 39:57any other tips
- 39:58and tricks
- 39:59and tactics
- 40:00that you
- 40:00believe are
- 40:02really valuable.
- 40:02The other big
- 40:04thing is audience,
- 40:05right?
- 40:06Audience still
- 40:06matters on
- 40:07YouTube.
- 40:09And Google's
- 40:10targeting on
- 40:11YouTube is the
- 40:13best and most
- 40:14granular targeting
- 40:15that exists today
- 40:16in digital.
- 40:18Like, you really
- 40:19can target your
- 40:20ICP.
- 40:21And Google's
- 40:22bidding algorithm
- 40:23is not at the
- 40:24level where you
- 40:27can just go
- 40:28broad and it
- 40:29will find your
- 40:29ICP, right?
- 40:30So, you know,
- 40:32if you sell
- 40:33beauty products,
- 40:36like, an in-market
- 40:38audience for
- 40:39beauty products is
- 40:40a good audience
- 40:41to test on
- 40:43YouTube, right?
- 40:44Like, go
- 40:45narrow.
- 40:46Go top 10%
- 40:48household income
- 40:49women between
- 40:50the ages of
- 40:5135 and 54
- 40:53who have
- 40:54X, Y, and Z
- 40:55interests, right?
- 40:56Like, the kind
- 40:57of stuff that we
- 40:58used to do on
- 40:59Meta, like,
- 41:00still totally
- 41:01applicable on
- 41:02Google.
- 41:03You should
- 41:03definitely be
- 41:04doing that sort
- 41:04of targeting
- 41:05with YouTube,
- 41:07even on
- 41:08shorts, right?
- 41:11And, like,
- 41:13shorts is
- 41:13huge.
- 41:14Like, it's
- 41:15bigger than
- 41:16reels.
- 41:17It's bigger
- 41:17than TikTok.
- 41:19Two billion
- 41:20people use
- 41:21shorts a month.
- 41:23Like, shorts
- 41:24is colossal.
- 41:26So the
- 41:26inventory is
- 41:27there for
- 41:28essentially any
- 41:29advertiser to
- 41:30spend thousands
- 41:31of dollars a
- 41:32day on just
- 41:33shorts as a
- 41:34placement.
- 41:35But, again,
- 41:36you gotta
- 41:37take what's
- 41:38old is new
- 41:39again.
- 41:40You gotta
- 41:40take the
- 41:40old rules of
- 41:41what you did
- 41:42on Meta,
- 41:43you know,
- 41:43back in the
- 41:44day and get
- 41:45granular with
- 41:46your audiences.
- 41:47And take
- 41:47your winners,
- 41:48right?
- 41:48Like, you
- 41:49know, I
- 41:49think short
- 41:49form video
- 41:50that performs
- 41:52well is
- 41:54short form
- 41:54video that
- 41:55performs well.
- 41:56You know,
- 41:56obviously, like,
- 41:57TikTok's kind of
- 41:58like the gold
- 41:58standard.
- 41:59Like, if it
- 42:00performs on
- 42:00TikTok, it'll
- 42:01perform everywhere
- 42:02else.
- 42:02Like, it
- 42:03performs on
- 42:04Meta, it
- 42:04might not
- 42:04necessarily perform
- 42:05on TikTok.
- 42:06But take
- 42:07your winners,
- 42:09drop them
- 42:09into a demand
- 42:10gen shorts
- 42:11campaign, have
- 42:13some granular
- 42:14audience targeting
- 42:14with different ad
- 42:16groups and doing
- 42:16granular audience
- 42:17targeting.
- 42:19And, like,
- 42:20that's a super,
- 42:21super easy
- 42:22place to start.
- 42:24It will have,
- 42:25like, pretty good
- 42:25click attribution
- 42:26to it.
- 42:28And, you know,
- 42:29you're not going
- 42:29to spend $20,000
- 42:30a day on it,
- 42:31but $2,000, $3,000,
- 42:33$4,000, $5,000 a
- 42:34day, I mean,
- 42:36it's not nothing.
- 42:36I'm very curious
- 42:37about the role of
- 42:39landing pages
- 42:39across Google.
- 42:41I know from a
- 42:42shopping side,
- 42:43it would have to
- 42:44be handled
- 42:44differently because
- 42:45it needs to go
- 42:45to functionally
- 42:46a PDP.
- 42:48So, I guess you
- 42:48could split it
- 42:49into two parts.
- 42:50Like, what are
- 42:50the role of
- 42:51landing pages from
- 42:51a search perspective?
- 42:52I'm assuming you
- 42:53have a lot more
- 42:53flexibility in what
- 42:54you can and can't
- 42:55do from a search
- 42:55side.
- 42:56But, to your
- 42:57point earlier,
- 42:57maybe there's a
- 42:58little bit less
- 42:58volume overall in
- 43:00search.
- 43:01But then I'm just
- 43:01curious, like,
- 43:02have you seen,
- 43:03like, CRO-specific
- 43:04tests to PDPs that
- 43:06have been impactful
- 43:06for Google traffic
- 43:07specifically?
- 43:08Like, obviously,
- 43:09price and offer is,
- 43:10you know, maybe not
- 43:11where I'm going
- 43:11with this.
- 43:13But I'm just curious
- 43:14if you've come
- 43:14across any, like,
- 43:15CRO wins that
- 43:16have unlocked
- 43:16crazy scale,
- 43:17whether it is a
- 43:18shopping or search
- 43:19side.
- 43:20Absolutely.
- 43:21Yeah.
- 43:21Yeah.
- 43:21And landing page
- 43:23is huge.
- 43:24You know,
- 43:25landing pages are
- 43:27being important
- 43:28on Google,
- 43:30like, predates
- 43:30them being
- 43:31important on
- 43:32Meta.
- 43:32I mean, it's
- 43:33historically been
- 43:34very important
- 43:35because landing page
- 43:36quality score
- 43:36is one of the
- 43:39components of
- 43:40quality score.
- 43:41And quality score
- 43:42impacts your
- 43:43CPCs.
- 43:43And so a
- 43:44better, higher
- 43:45converting landing
- 43:46page will
- 43:48increase your
- 43:48quality score,
- 43:49which means it
- 43:50helps your ad
- 43:50rank, which
- 43:51means your
- 43:51CPCs are
- 43:52going to be
- 43:52lower.
- 43:53So it's
- 43:54always been a
- 43:56key component
- 43:56to it.
- 43:57And you can
- 43:57run shopping
- 44:00to landing
- 44:02pages.
- 44:03And especially
- 44:04if you are
- 44:04in, you know,
- 44:06maybe something
- 44:06that does not
- 44:06have a lot of
- 44:07SKUs, if you're
- 44:09in kind of like
- 44:09a, you're a
- 44:10supplement with
- 44:11like a massive
- 44:12hero product,
- 44:13you probably don't
- 44:14want to be sending
- 44:15that to a PDP.
- 44:16You do want to be
- 44:16sending that to a
- 44:17landing page that
- 44:18is specifically
- 44:19structured for
- 44:20that traffic.
- 44:21Because again,
- 44:22we get back to
- 44:23the how can we
- 44:24maximize the
- 44:25inventory that we
- 44:26can target
- 44:26profitably, right?
- 44:28Like that's going
- 44:28to impact your
- 44:28revenue per session,
- 44:30right?
- 44:30And that means
- 44:31you can adjust
- 44:32your targets and
- 44:34you're going to be
- 44:34able to get a
- 44:35greater click share,
- 44:36right?
- 44:36Like I would
- 44:38love to have a
- 44:3890% click share
- 44:40for search terms
- 44:42that are good
- 44:43for me, right?
- 44:45Because that's
- 44:46what's going to
- 44:46increase my volume.
- 44:47So landing pages
- 44:48are massively
- 44:49critical to
- 44:50search, but
- 44:51also to shopping.
- 44:52And I, you
- 44:53know, I'm not
- 44:53saying create a
- 44:54custom landing page
- 44:55for every single
- 44:55product that you
- 44:56have, but if it
- 44:58gets a lot of
- 44:58volume and you
- 45:00look and you
- 45:00see, okay, my
- 45:01click share is
- 45:02relatively low.
- 45:03Like, okay, well,
- 45:04how am I
- 45:04increasing that?
- 45:05How am I
- 45:05increasing the
- 45:06click share for
- 45:06this specific
- 45:07product?
- 45:08Like, let's
- 45:08make a landing
- 45:09page for it
- 45:10because now our
- 45:11revenue per session
- 45:12goes up, which
- 45:13means we can, you
- 45:14know, adjust our
- 45:16bids, which
- 45:17means the
- 45:18percentage of
- 45:19the inventory
- 45:20that we can get
- 45:20and get profitably
- 45:21is going to go
- 45:22up.
- 45:23So, yeah,
- 45:24landing page is
- 45:25massively critical.
- 45:26It's the key to
- 45:28unlocking additional
- 45:29non-brand search
- 45:30as well because
- 45:31people are looking
- 45:32for specific
- 45:33things and
- 45:35your products
- 45:36might have
- 45:3820 different
- 45:40angles for what
- 45:41it does, right?
- 45:42Like a
- 45:42magnesium supplement,
- 45:43like it's great
- 45:44for sleep, but
- 45:45it's also like
- 45:46good for focus
- 45:47and all these
- 45:49other things.
- 45:49And if you're
- 45:50sending all of
- 45:51those queries to
- 45:52your PDP,
- 45:54that's terrible,
- 45:55right?
- 45:56It's like best
- 45:57supplement for
- 45:57sleep.
- 45:58All right, well,
- 45:59there you go.
- 45:59Now we're hitting
- 46:00our sleep queries,
- 46:01right?
- 46:01Supplement for
- 46:02focus.
- 46:04Now we're hitting
- 46:05something completely
- 46:05different.
- 46:06And so, you
- 46:07know, and this
- 46:08is, I think,
- 46:09the biggest
- 46:11challenge with
- 46:12Google is that
- 46:13outside of
- 46:14YouTube, there's
- 46:15not one big
- 46:18unlock.
- 46:19You're not going
- 46:19to find a killer
- 46:20creative and
- 46:22scale your
- 46:23budgets 10x.
- 46:24Like that's not
- 46:25how it works.
- 46:26It is brick
- 46:27by brick
- 46:28incremental
- 46:29layering of a
- 46:32few percentage
- 46:33points of
- 46:33efficiency here.
- 46:35Unlocking a new
- 46:36class of keywords
- 46:37that's going to
- 46:38add another,
- 46:39you know,
- 46:40$3,000, $5,000,
- 46:41$10,000 of ad
- 46:42spend a month.
- 46:43That's running
- 46:44efficiently, right?
- 46:45You're layering
- 46:47on these
- 46:49bricks and
- 46:50building it
- 46:51one piece at a
- 46:52time.
- 46:53There's no,
- 46:55hey, we found
- 46:55an absolute
- 46:56banger, like,
- 46:57let's rip it to
- 46:57the moon.
- 46:58Like, that's just
- 46:58not how it
- 46:59works.
- 47:01And, you know,
- 47:02I think that
- 47:04lends itself to a
- 47:05specific type of
- 47:06person who is
- 47:08very in the weeds,
- 47:09who is going to
- 47:10do all of this
- 47:10work.
- 47:11And also why
- 47:12I think
- 47:13most people
- 47:16who deal
- 47:17with Google
- 47:18or most
- 47:19brands are
- 47:20like, oh,
- 47:20Google doesn't
- 47:20work or,
- 47:21you know,
- 47:23it's because
- 47:23they're not
- 47:24willing to pay
- 47:25people who can
- 47:26actually do this
- 47:27to build it
- 47:28and build it
- 47:29over time
- 47:30because it
- 47:31does layer
- 47:32over time.
- 47:33It is not,
- 47:34we took it
- 47:35from $10,000 a
- 47:35month to
- 47:36$400,000 a
- 47:38month in,
- 47:38you know,
- 47:39two months
- 47:40with one
- 47:40banger ad.
- 47:41It's layered
- 47:42over time.
- 47:43I think we have
- 47:44a new podcast
- 47:45called Skill Issue
- 47:46that can come out
- 47:47of this to bring
- 47:47this full circle
- 47:48where we just
- 47:49like, we'll just
- 47:50pull up ad
- 47:50accounts and
- 47:51Colin, you can
- 47:52just publicly
- 47:53shit on
- 47:54everybody's
- 47:54Google account.
- 47:56It's so hard.
- 47:57There are not
- 47:57that many Google
- 47:58people in the
- 47:59world who are
- 47:59good at it.
- 48:02It is,
- 48:04and I've seen
- 48:04this with
- 48:05clients who
- 48:08have been
- 48:09wanting to
- 48:10fire us
- 48:11for a very
- 48:11long time,
- 48:12not because
- 48:12we're not
- 48:12doing a great
- 48:13job, but
- 48:13just because
- 48:14we're expensive
- 48:14and they're
- 48:14like, you're
- 48:15too expensive.
- 48:16We don't
- 48:16want to pay
- 48:16you.
- 48:17We're going
- 48:17to in-house
- 48:19this.
- 48:19I'm like,
- 48:20okay, good
- 48:20luck.
- 48:22There are
- 48:23just not
- 48:23that many
- 48:24people who
- 48:24are legitimately
- 48:25good at
- 48:26Google because
- 48:27the number
- 48:27of years it
- 48:28takes to be
- 48:29really good at
- 48:29Google is a
- 48:31lot and the
- 48:32attention to
- 48:33detail is
- 48:34massive and
- 48:36the number
- 48:36of
- 48:38individual
- 48:39settings that
- 48:40if done
- 48:41incorrectly
- 48:42will completely
- 48:44invalidate
- 48:45everything else
- 48:45that you
- 48:46did is
- 48:47incredibly
- 48:48high.
- 48:49You can do
- 48:50all of the
- 48:50things that
- 48:50I've said
- 48:51so far
- 48:52through here
- 48:52completely
- 48:53correctly,
- 48:54but if you
- 48:54have your
- 48:55conversion set
- 48:56up incorrectly,
- 48:56which is very
- 48:57common,
- 48:58let's say you
- 48:59have two
- 48:59different primary
- 49:00conversions,
- 49:01it's going to
- 49:01be completely
- 49:02non-incremental.
- 49:02It's going to
- 49:03generate zero
- 49:03revenue and it's
- 49:04going to look
- 49:04great, but
- 49:06it's so easy
- 49:07to have
- 49:08page view
- 49:09plus purchase
- 49:10as primary
- 49:12conversions and
- 49:13they're the
- 49:13account defaults
- 49:15and so they're
- 49:16there in that
- 49:16campaign and
- 49:17you're telling
- 49:18Google, I
- 49:19value page
- 49:19views and I
- 49:20value purchases
- 49:21and so obviously
- 49:22one is much
- 49:22easier to get
- 49:23than the other
- 49:24and so Google
- 49:25is going to
- 49:25just be like
- 49:26generating traffic
- 49:27that's firing
- 49:28page views and
- 49:29it's going to be
- 49:30racking up like
- 49:31efficiency in there,
- 49:32but you're not
- 49:32going to be seeing
- 49:33it on your
- 49:33bottom line and
- 49:35it's because that
- 49:36one single
- 49:37setting was done
- 49:38incorrectly and
- 49:39now it's all
- 49:40worthless, right?
- 49:41And there's
- 49:42dozens of
- 49:43those throughout
- 49:45the account and
- 49:47you need someone
- 49:48who can be
- 49:49completely on top
- 49:50of that, knows
- 49:51where they are
- 49:52and isn't going
- 49:54to make a mistake,
- 49:55right?
- 49:56And there's just
- 49:56it's hard work
- 49:58and there's not
- 49:59a lot of people
- 50:00who have that
- 50:02depth of
- 50:03knowledge to
- 50:04do it in a
- 50:05platform and
- 50:06then you add on
- 50:07YouTube, which is
- 50:07a totally different
- 50:08platform within the
- 50:09platform and it's
- 50:10like, okay.
- 50:11It's definitely a
- 50:12lot.
- 50:12Well, you've given
- 50:13us a lot to think
- 50:14about, Colin.
- 50:15Lots of absolute
- 50:17sauce for folks.
- 50:18I appreciate your
- 50:19time.
- 50:20Thank you for
- 50:20coming on and
- 50:21appreciate you
- 50:22being here.
- 50:23Yeah, this was a
- 50:24lot of fun and
- 50:25happy to come on
- 50:26and jam anytime.
- 50:28Thank you everybody
- 50:28for listening.
- 50:34This episode is
- 50:35brought to you by
- 50:35Brad's company,
- 50:37Work Marketing.
- 50:38If you need a
- 50:39D2C marketing
- 50:40agency, let me
- 50:41tell you,
- 50:41Homestead is
- 50:42great, but
- 50:43Work Marketing
- 50:44is also fantastic.
- 50:46And let me tell
- 50:46you, you
- 50:47aren't going to
- 50:48find friendlier
- 50:49people out there
- 50:50in the e-commerce
- 50:52space.
- 50:53So we decided to
- 50:54do these little
- 50:55ads for each
- 50:55other's companies.
- 50:56So hopefully you
- 50:57find it interesting.
- 50:57But seriously,
- 50:58great team at
- 50:58Work Marketing,
- 51:00very smart.
- 51:00Brad and Jordan
- 51:01are incredibly
- 51:02dialed in.
- 51:03I just gave them
- 51:04a lead, already
- 51:05made this brand
- 51:06that I gave them
- 51:07like, I don't
- 51:07even know,
- 51:08double the revenue
- 51:10that they had the
- 51:10previous month or
- 51:11something.
- 51:12So, you know,
- 51:13it's very exciting
- 51:13to be connected
- 51:15with Brad.
- 51:15And if you need
- 51:16a great agency,
- 51:17there's really no
- 51:17one better.
- 51:18Zach, anything to
- 51:19comment on Work
- 51:20Marketing?
- 51:21Yeah, I mean,
- 51:21if you want an
- 51:22agency that cares
- 51:23about your business
- 51:24much more than
- 51:25they care about
- 51:25their own website,
- 51:26I just tried to
- 51:27load WorkMarketing.com
- 51:28and it was broken.
- 51:29So they're definitely
- 51:30going to give more
- 51:31of a shit about
- 51:31your business
- 51:32than their own.
- 51:33So I highly
- 51:33recommend Brad
- 51:34and the team
- 51:35over at Work.
- 51:35They've been
- 51:35incredible.
- 51:36We've referred a lot
- 51:37of business over
- 51:38to them as well.
- 51:38Really, really good
- 51:39as far as like
- 51:40cracking funnels
- 51:41and figuring out
- 51:41like rapid growth
- 51:42for brands.
- 51:43So I highly
- 51:44recommend these guys.
- 51:45The only way that we
- 51:55grow this podcast is
- 51:56by you sharing it
- 51:58with your friends.
- 51:59Honestly, like
- 51:59reviews kind of
- 52:00don't really mean
- 52:00anything too much
- 52:01anymore.
- 52:02They're really
- 52:02meaningful, but they
- 52:03don't do a lot for
- 52:04the growth of the
- 52:04podcast.
- 52:05And so sharing
- 52:06YouTube links,
- 52:07sharing Spotify
- 52:08links, sharing
- 52:09Apple, whatever we
- 52:11call it under the
- 52:12podcast app now,
- 52:13anything you can
- 52:14share, the better
- 52:15we're going to be.
- 52:16Guys, anything else
- 52:17you want to say on
- 52:18this?
- 52:18Yeah, please go check
- 52:19us out on YouTube.
- 52:20Rack up those views
- 52:21for us.
- 52:22We'd love to see it.
- 52:22And then subscribe.
- 52:23Make sure to subscribe
- 52:24on YouTube as well.
- 52:25And I relentlessly
- 52:26refresh the YouTube
- 52:26comments because it
- 52:27dictates my mental
- 52:28health for the day.
- 52:29So please say
- 52:29something nice about
- 52:30all of us.
- 52:32Thank you, everyone.
- 52:33Thanks for listening.
- 52:34Honestly.
