Latest / Foul Territory / Trade szn w/Robert Murray: Sizing up each team by division
Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Fan sided NFT insider Robert Murray with us right now.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Great to talk and we'll be talking a lot leading
- 0:15Speaker 1: up to the trade deadline. Robert, I'll take a different
- 0:17Speaker 1: approach today. Instead of teams, let's do divisions. So let's
- 0:20Speaker 1: start with the American League East. Just size up what
- 0:23Speaker 1: you see going on there and how it can relate
- 0:25Speaker 1: to the trade deadline.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a bunch of different things that are going
- 0:30Speaker 2: on in the AL East right now. The Yankees, you
- 0:32Speaker 2: have the Rays, and then everybody else is really just
- 0:35Speaker 2: kind of hanging out there, lurking in the weeds, I
- 0:38Speaker 2: would say, and specifically with the Rays. They're a team
- 0:41Speaker 2: that are doing extremely well this season. I could see
- 0:45Speaker 2: them ended up trying to make a big move of
- 0:47Speaker 2: the deadline. They've tried in the past for Shoeotani, as
- 0:50Speaker 2: Ken Rosenthal ended up reporting. They tried for Freddie Freeman.
- 0:53Speaker 2: They tried very hard when he was a free agent,
- 0:55Speaker 2: did not get him. And if they could get a
- 0:57Speaker 2: guy like or Trek's Schooble, or if they can get
- 0:59Speaker 2: a back, I think that would make a ton of
- 1:01Speaker 2: sense there. See the Yankees there forty eight and thirty eight.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I agree exactly with what Pratzy said beforehand, like school
- 1:08Speaker 2: has been connected to them, But I don't know if
- 1:09Speaker 2: that's necessarily the thing that they go out and do.
- 1:12Speaker 2: There's a few different things that they can go out,
- 1:14Speaker 2: but I'm not necessarily sure if they go out and
- 1:17Speaker 2: make that massive move. The Boston Red Sox to me
- 1:20Speaker 2: are the most interesting team in that division right now
- 1:22Speaker 2: because they're surging. They look a lot better than they
- 1:25Speaker 2: did initially, and their pitching is very good. But they're
- 1:28Speaker 2: in a position now where they're on the fence between
- 1:30Speaker 2: buying and selling. There's obviously a lot of time between
- 1:32Speaker 2: now and the deadline, but they can take advantage of
- 1:35Speaker 2: this market like a Wilson Contreras type or a Sunny
- 1:38Speaker 2: Gray type or role as Chapman.
- 1:40Speaker 3: They can get a bunch.
- 1:41Speaker 2: In return for those guys, and they can end up
- 1:43Speaker 2: adding pieces who are close to major League ready, if
- 1:45Speaker 2: not major League ready, if those opportunities present themselves, and
- 1:48Speaker 2: I'm sure they will so. If I'm the Red Sox
- 1:50Speaker 2: at this point, I probably lean towards selling rather than buying.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I know a lot of people think that they should buy,
- 1:56Speaker 2: but they should take advantage of this market because they
- 1:59Speaker 2: might get more value and one would expect. But also
- 2:02Speaker 2: the Blue Jays too, They're going to be very aggressive
- 2:04Speaker 2: on the pitching front. I would expect possibly a frontline
- 2:09Speaker 2: starter to be something that they end up exploring. So
- 2:12Speaker 2: in the Orioles too, they want to buy, they don't
- 2:14Speaker 2: want to sell.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Ad the Ritchman.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I'm sure he's gonna be getting plenty of calls, plenty
- 2:17Speaker 2: of teams drawing interests there, but I cannot see him
- 2:20Speaker 2: being moved at all. And it seems like the Oriols
- 2:22Speaker 2: just have no no eagerness to even move him or
- 2:24Speaker 2: even listen on him at all.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Right, well, you're talking about the Red Sox. I'm gonna
- 2:28Speaker 4: hit the Red Sox first. The reason they should move
- 2:31Speaker 4: people is because they stink in a stinky American league West.
- 2:34Speaker 4: But which of those three that you mentioned, because I
- 2:37Speaker 4: love the names Jared Duran or Aldus Chapman and Wilson Contrires,
- 2:41Speaker 4: which one do you feel like is the most unusual
- 2:45Speaker 4: fit as far as like what the league like? Wow,
- 2:48Speaker 4: that the most valuable fit, I should say that piece
- 2:51Speaker 4: going to another team.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I think teams would love to get Jared Duran
- 2:55Speaker 2: from them and the Red Sox have gotten a ton
- 2:57Speaker 2: of interest in the past. The Potters have been one
- 2:59Speaker 2: of them, There's been a bunch of other teams, and
- 3:01Speaker 2: he's he's been extremely productive at the major league level,
- 3:04Speaker 2: but this season hasn't necessarily been the same numbers as
- 3:07Speaker 2: in years past, and the Red Sox have put such
- 3:09Speaker 2: a high value on him and other teams have not
- 3:11Speaker 2: been willing to meet it. So I have a hard
- 3:13Speaker 2: time seeing him end up getting that offer that would
- 3:16Speaker 2: attract the Red Sox to actually pull the trigger on
- 3:18Speaker 2: a move like that. I think a Wilson contrerorist type
- 3:20Speaker 2: makes a ton of sense here for other teams. He's
- 3:23Speaker 2: a great first base and he's had a really nice
- 3:25Speaker 2: season so far. And you look at the Houston Astros specifically,
- 3:29Speaker 2: they have Christian Walker, they have some of those pieces there,
- 3:32Speaker 2: but they're still continuing to linger in the in the
- 3:35Speaker 2: American League West, also just in the playoff race as
- 3:38Speaker 2: a whole, and they might be inclined to hold on
- 3:40Speaker 2: to those guys and that could end up really allowing
- 3:42Speaker 2: the Red Sox to corner the market. As far as
- 3:45Speaker 2: a guy that contrerass goes, so, I think he absolutely
- 3:48Speaker 2: makes a ton of sense he might be the most
- 3:50Speaker 2: valuable guy who can end up getting or who actually
- 3:52Speaker 2: has a realistic chance of being traded. Then a rold
- 3:55Speaker 2: As Chapman too. Like he is, he's awesome, like he's
- 3:59Speaker 2: been a dependable for years, can pitch in like the
- 4:02Speaker 2: late innings at a very high level. I think he's
- 4:05Speaker 2: got a ton of like a ton of attraction around
- 4:07Speaker 2: the league. I firmly expect him the Red Sox, dude
- 4:10Speaker 2: decide to sell, to be traded, and he's gonna have
- 4:13Speaker 2: no shortage of interested teams. And you can look at
- 4:15Speaker 2: the Mariners, you can look at I mean, basically every
- 4:18Speaker 2: contending team is probably going to be in the mix there.
- 4:21Speaker 2: So the Red Sox and Craig Breslow specifically have a
- 4:23Speaker 2: chance to really take advantage of this thing.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Here is there a fear that Chappie may not be
- 4:28Speaker 4: successful as an eighth inning guy for teams because when
- 4:32Speaker 4: he gets traded, he becomes the closer. I know it
- 4:35Speaker 4: didn't quite work that way in Texas when he got
- 4:37Speaker 4: traded and won the World Series, but essentially his value
- 4:41Speaker 4: is closing and he's getting up there in age, so
- 4:43Speaker 4: that routine is there fear that they meant that a
- 4:46Speaker 4: team may not need hit or not want him because
- 4:50Speaker 4: he's only a closer.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I mean it's I think it's possible for sure, but
- 4:55Speaker 2: also he's just so good, so dominant that I think
- 4:58Speaker 2: any team would be eager to add him, And we've
- 5:01Speaker 2: seen it now with the Atlanta Braves where they've had
- 5:03Speaker 2: riisell Iglesias. Then you have Suarez there as well, so
- 5:07Speaker 2: the dynamic can work. But also, like if you're acquiring
- 5:10Speaker 2: an oldest chapman, I think ideally you'd want him or
- 5:13Speaker 2: you want him as your closer. I think you'd acquire
- 5:15Speaker 2: him to be your closer because the asking price and
- 5:18Speaker 2: the eventual price to get him out of Boston is
- 5:20Speaker 2: just going to be It's not going to be cheap
- 5:22Speaker 2: by any means, and the fact that he could end
- 5:23Speaker 2: up being controllable through next season also added to that
- 5:26Speaker 2: expense as well. So I still firmly believe that a
- 5:30Speaker 2: team is going to acquire him to be their closer.
- 5:32Speaker 2: But I could also see that other teams possibly being
- 5:36Speaker 2: in the mixed Adham to the eighthinging, So I don't
- 5:37Speaker 2: think necessarily there's any scare or like there's any worry there.
- 5:41Speaker 2: But he's just a super dependable and super high commodity
- 5:44Speaker 2: was going to draw a ton of interest.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Here a sea Geek is MLB's official ticket marketplace, and
- 5:52Speaker 1: in addition to finding every single game on the MLB calendar,
- 5:56Speaker 1: there are big events coming up.
- 5:58Speaker 5: There's an All Star game. There's a home run Derby.
- 6:01Speaker 5: And if you think you're perfect and you can pick
- 6:03Speaker 5: the right seat at the home run derby to get
- 6:04Speaker 5: the most home run balls, you can get the little
- 6:07Speaker 5: green dot and that might be your lucky seat. Don't
- 6:09Speaker 5: go red dot, though, because you might not get any balls,
- 6:11Speaker 5: but go redgreen dot and get as many home run
- 6:14Speaker 5: balls as you think you can catch.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Yep, you click the seat, you check out what your
- 6:18Speaker 1: view is. Each ticket's rated on a scale of one
- 6:20Speaker 1: to ten, so you know you're getting a good deal.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And that's what AJ's talking about. Green good, red bad.
- 6:25Speaker 1: With those dots and the code for you Territory one
- 6:28Speaker 1: zero for ten percent off your next set of tickets
- 6:31Speaker 1: at sea Geek. That's ten percent off any MLB tickets
- 6:34Speaker 1: with promo code Territory ten. Make sure you click the
- 6:38Speaker 1: link in the description of this episode that'll help you
- 6:40Speaker 1: download the app and then get the code automatically added
- 6:44Speaker 1: to your account so that you can use it later.
- 6:46Speaker 6: Thank you to see geek.
- 6:48Speaker 7: I remember being a rookie in twenty sixteen NLCS watching
- 6:52Speaker 7: eeraldis Chapman basically carry them to a World Series And
- 6:55Speaker 7: here I am and he's still out there doing what
- 6:57Speaker 7: he does. Robert, It's pretty dang impressive question, man. Is
- 7:01Speaker 7: you see like sometimes these headlines were someone there, they
- 7:04Speaker 7: might be a buyer and a seller at the deadline,
- 7:06Speaker 7: and the Red Sox are kind of in that vein,
- 7:07Speaker 7: maybe the Padres, maybe the Cardinals to an extent, Is
- 7:10Speaker 7: that actually a successful endeavor? Is there a team that
- 7:13Speaker 7: you can point to that has done that well or
- 7:15Speaker 7: maybe a team that this deadline is actually going to
- 7:17Speaker 7: buy and sell at the same time.
- 7:20Speaker 2: No, that's a really good question. The team that I
- 7:22Speaker 2: automatically think of is the Tampa Bay Rays. It seems
- 7:24Speaker 2: like they're always a team that has their hands in
- 7:27Speaker 2: both buying and selling. They did so last year, they've
- 7:30Speaker 2: done so in the past, and they've done it at
- 7:31Speaker 2: relatively a high level. And they're a team that I
- 7:34Speaker 2: think other teams would love to try to mimic. And
- 7:37Speaker 2: as far as the who can end up trying to
- 7:38Speaker 2: mimic that this this year. That's a really interesting question.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I could see you wonder if the Ashros can end
- 7:44Speaker 2: up doing something like that because, as I mentioned before,
- 7:46Speaker 2: they have Perettis, they have Christian Walker. Could a team
- 7:49Speaker 2: try to pry Josh Hater out of Houston? Like in
- 7:52Speaker 2: the offseason they were trying to get rid of some
- 7:54Speaker 2: of their salary and both are all those guys listed there,
- 7:57Speaker 2: Especially a guy like Hater has a very high salary,
- 8:00Speaker 2: so you wonder could they listen on him and try
- 8:02Speaker 2: to maybe use that money saved to upgrade a different
- 8:05Speaker 2: part of the roster. Like I have not heard that
- 8:07Speaker 2: on my end, but it's something that I've definitely considered
- 8:10Speaker 2: here for sure. The San Diego Padres late last year
- 8:14Speaker 2: they were adding like crazy, and all of a sudden,
- 8:15Speaker 2: late at the deadline, we were hearing about Dylan Ce's
- 8:18Speaker 2: possibly being moved to either what was it, Houston or
- 8:21Speaker 2: Texas or one of those teams. Obviously it didn't end
- 8:24Speaker 2: up happening, But Aj Preller always considers different things. He
- 8:27Speaker 2: is the most aggressive GM and ball. I don't think
- 8:30Speaker 2: it's close at this point unless you're Jerry Depoto, But
- 8:32Speaker 2: it's like I could see him trying to consider something
- 8:34Speaker 2: like that. But this is the kind of year where
- 8:37Speaker 2: so many teams are bunched up and in the mix
- 8:40Speaker 2: here that we can end up seeing some definitely consider that,
- 8:43Speaker 2: even teams that we're not considering right now. It's just
- 8:45Speaker 2: it's a totally bizarre season. Like I asked Tom Verducci
- 8:48Speaker 2: about this in my podcast yesterday, like if he's ever
- 8:50Speaker 2: seen an American league like this where it's just so
- 8:52Speaker 2: bunched up and relatively mediocre, and he said he can't
- 8:55Speaker 2: remember a year like this, and honestly neither can I.
- 8:58Speaker 4: All Right, well, then that's good to the media al
- 9:00Speaker 4: central because there's a lot of teams bunched up there
- 9:04Speaker 4: that when you have the Tigers in last believing that
- 9:08Speaker 4: they can be in first, who is really who is
- 9:12Speaker 4: fool's gold in that division? As far as we're not
- 9:17Speaker 4: gonna go and get anybody, but they should go get somebody,
- 9:20Speaker 4: And who is lying to themselves saying we're gonna go
- 9:22Speaker 4: get everybody?
- 9:23Speaker 6: It's like you're not that good.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Yeah. The team that I'm absolutely buying is the Chicago
- 9:28Speaker 2: White Sox. Like they are, They're a blast. I wish
- 9:31Speaker 2: I wish AJ was here too, because it seems like
- 9:33Speaker 2: I praise all the teams that or I like, I
- 9:36Speaker 2: praise a bunch of different teams, and now I'm fine
- 9:37Speaker 2: of praising one of AJ's teams. So like that's the
- 9:40Speaker 2: White Sox are a blast and I can absolutely see
- 9:42Speaker 2: them going out and adding an impact starting pitcher if
- 9:44Speaker 2: they can. Who's controllable and I think they were Controllable
- 9:47Speaker 2: is the word to watch there, And if if the
- 9:49Speaker 2: White Sox could have it their way, I think a
- 9:52Speaker 2: read Detvers type makes a ton of sense for them,
- 9:54Speaker 2: Like he's controllable, he can start a playoff game if
- 9:56Speaker 2: you need him to, and he's someone you can build
- 9:58Speaker 2: around in that rotation. And with the Angels making a
- 10:00Speaker 2: move there at GM, maybe that becomes more possible.
- 10:03Speaker 3: The prime amount of Anheim.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Who knows the Guardians are always lingering, but I have
- 10:08Speaker 2: a hard time seeing them make it a big splash.
- 10:10Speaker 2: It seems like they never really do something like that.
- 10:12Speaker 2: They've already made one trade for Patrick Bailey. I don't
- 10:15Speaker 2: know if it's good to be in anything more sizable
- 10:17Speaker 2: after that. But we've seen the Royals come out and
- 10:20Speaker 2: say that they're not wanting to spend or they're not
- 10:23Speaker 2: wanting to sell at this point, I should say, And
- 10:26Speaker 2: I got to imagine with how their season is gone,
- 10:29Speaker 2: selling has to be a really enticing option for them
- 10:31Speaker 2: because you have Michael Waka, you have Seth Lugo in
- 10:35Speaker 2: a pitching market where there's gonna be a bunch of
- 10:37Speaker 2: contending teams who are looking for a guy who can
- 10:39Speaker 2: start a playoff game.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Both of those really stand out.
- 10:41Speaker 2: So I think this should be in a position where
- 10:43Speaker 2: they realize where they're at this year and sell and
- 10:46Speaker 2: try to take advantage and selling relatively high on both
- 10:49Speaker 2: of those assets.
- 10:51Speaker 7: Well, I'll just ask you straight to your face here, Robert,
- 10:54Speaker 7: because Michael Waka was my college roommate at Texas A
- 10:56Speaker 7: and m Where's where do you think he's going? Because
- 10:59Speaker 7: I just I'm so proud of him, man, Like, talk
- 11:01Speaker 7: about a guy that like came out hot NLCSMVP as
- 11:04Speaker 7: a rookie and then you know, it's kind of like
- 11:06Speaker 7: I think at one point was on like seventeens and
- 11:08Speaker 7: seven years and now really has made a name for
- 11:10Speaker 7: himself here in Kansas City and he's got like two
- 11:12Speaker 7: little kids and he loves.
- 11:13Speaker 6: It there and I know a trade just rocks your world.
- 11:15Speaker 7: But you know, he he could go to a lot
- 11:18Speaker 7: of teams that I think would really really appreciate him.
- 11:20Speaker 7: He's not a big splash, he's not a Terek school Ball,
- 11:23Speaker 7: but he's been a really good starting pitcher here for
- 11:25Speaker 7: a couple of years.
- 11:26Speaker 6: Man, you got a a gut instinct of where he
- 11:28Speaker 6: might land. Yeah.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I asked somebody that same question yesterday and he was like,
- 11:33Speaker 2: I would look at teams who are not looking for
- 11:35Speaker 2: the school type, or are not looking at like the
- 11:38Speaker 2: Freddie Peralta type, where I mean it would probably think
- 11:41Speaker 2: not the Dodgers, maybe not the Brewers, or like teams
- 11:46Speaker 2: that we've been hearing linked to schoobl I think are
- 11:49Speaker 2: going to be in the market for a guy like
- 11:50Speaker 2: Michael Walker. I think he's going to be incredibly coveted
- 11:53Speaker 2: at the deadline. He's like, not the most flashy guy
- 11:56Speaker 2: by any means, but he's just dependable. He's a veteran
- 11:59Speaker 2: and he's just really good at base play. He's really
- 12:02Speaker 2: good at pitching. And if you can end up adding him,
- 12:04Speaker 2: I believe he's controllable through next season, which also adds
- 12:07Speaker 2: to the intrigue there as well. Like if you're a
- 12:10Speaker 2: contending team and you have a chance to add Michael Waka,
- 12:12Speaker 2: who probably I can't imagine is going to result, and
- 12:15Speaker 2: you break in the bank as far as prospects go,
- 12:17Speaker 2: I would try to take advantage of that opportunity. So
- 12:20Speaker 2: Michael Waka, he may not be getting like the same
- 12:22Speaker 2: love as as a school boy or a Parraltz or
- 12:25Speaker 2: Joe Ryan or anything like that, but he can absolutely
- 12:27Speaker 2: make a difference. And I think we're god be hearing
- 12:29Speaker 2: about his name plenty come deadline season here.
- 12:32Speaker 4: All right, the muddled West, which I mean it's American League,
- 12:36Speaker 4: like every team stinks in the American League or they're
- 12:38Speaker 4: all just close together, whatever it is, is the biggest
- 12:42Speaker 4: move the fact that Perriman Asian's out and possibly a
- 12:46Speaker 4: new GM and John Mozeylak is in that isn't afraid
- 12:51Speaker 4: to make moves for and worry about what Ardie Moreno thinks.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Oh, I think that just totally may have changed things
- 12:58Speaker 2: here for the Angels. Like that really caught me off
- 13:00Speaker 2: guard because like I didn't expect Perry to be to
- 13:03Speaker 2: be back there next season, but I expected him to
- 13:05Speaker 2: at least play out the entire season here before he
- 13:08Speaker 2: was let go, and then also when Curtsuzuki's contract with
- 13:11Speaker 2: them expires, And this to me changes a lot because
- 13:14Speaker 2: John Mozelak has been much more aggressive on the trade
- 13:16Speaker 2: market than Perry has in years past. And now you
- 13:19Speaker 2: have an opportunity where you have a Redetmers type, you
- 13:23Speaker 2: have a Joe Adella type, like you have really nice
- 13:26Speaker 2: pieces there, and you can actually get a rebuild started
- 13:29Speaker 2: here in Anaheim. And if re Detmers is going to
- 13:32Speaker 2: be like very very like asked about from other teams,
- 13:36Speaker 2: like he's got a ton of fans across baseball, I
- 13:39Speaker 2: maintain that he's still the most asked ball player that
- 13:41Speaker 2: I have had from other teams. I expect him to
- 13:43Speaker 2: be drawn a ton of interest here. And Mozaillak has
- 13:46Speaker 2: proven that he's not afraid of moving on from pieces
- 13:49Speaker 2: in the past, like he's done big things in Saint Louis.
- 13:52Speaker 2: And if you can do something like that, maybe you
- 13:53Speaker 2: can actually finally get that big rebuild started here that
- 13:56Speaker 2: the Angels have needed for years upon years here. And
- 13:59Speaker 2: I thought it was extremely interesting too that Ken Rosenthal
- 14:03Speaker 2: interviewed with John Mozelac after he was hired there, and
- 14:05Speaker 2: he said that during the interview process that he never
- 14:08Speaker 2: talked to Artie Marina. We all know that Artie Moreno
- 14:11Speaker 2: likes to meddle, He likes to be involved, he likes
- 14:13Speaker 2: to like voice his opinion there. And I wonder maybe
- 14:16Speaker 2: with Mozaillaic, there is it possible that Arti Moreno doesn't
- 14:19Speaker 2: metal and allows him to do his thing. I don't know,
- 14:21Speaker 2: like Artie's as unpredictable as they come. But if he
- 14:24Speaker 2: lets John Moseellac do his job, then I think we
- 14:27Speaker 2: can actually see the angels start to rebuild. But I
- 14:29Speaker 2: do not expect a microt trade to happen. I'd be
- 14:32Speaker 2: very very surprised about that.
- 14:36Speaker 1: People dehydration sucks, quints, electrolyte stick packs to the rescue.
- 14:42Speaker 6: I order them, I use them all of the.
- 14:45Speaker 8: Time, somebody who may or may not have had some
- 14:48Speaker 8: adult beverages in their life. The next day, you know
- 14:50Speaker 8: what flavor, I like watermelon, and I don't like watermelon.
- 14:53Speaker 8: I'll go raspberry and it helps me to get my
- 14:56Speaker 8: citrus salt in. But if I do, it helps me

- 15:37Speaker 4: Robert, I'm going to deserve This is a question, a comment,
- 15:40Speaker 4: or an opinion. But the A's are in the West.
- 15:43Speaker 4: The A's are three games back right now. I think
- 15:45Speaker 4: it's three games back on the wild card. They have
- 15:48Speaker 4: a tough time finding stars. Is there a chance the
- 15:52Speaker 4: trade deadline is the way that they go out and
- 15:55Speaker 4: find a star that they can make a move that
- 15:58Speaker 4: you know what, We're never gonna be able to lowreer
- 15:59Speaker 4: any buddy to Sacramento in the offseason, so we do
- 16:02Speaker 4: it at the trade deadline.
- 16:04Speaker 2: I think they absolutely should consider, and this is something
- 16:06Speaker 2: that I had a rival executive at PIN is that
- 16:09Speaker 2: they should end up trying to get Matt Chapman back
- 16:11Speaker 2: at the deadline where he's the the A's hero. He's
- 16:14Speaker 2: the guy that came up with the organization. That organization
- 16:16Speaker 2: is super familiar with him. Obviously they're not still in Oakland,
- 16:19Speaker 2: but he's got deep ties to the organization, and the
- 16:21Speaker 2: Giants seem like they're going to be in a position
- 16:23Speaker 2: where they listen on all these all these star players
- 16:26Speaker 2: that they have, and Chapman would be a great fit.
- 16:28Speaker 2: And I think of the three stars that they have
- 16:30Speaker 2: in San Francisco, that Chapman has the most realistic chance
- 16:32Speaker 2: of being moved. And if you can end up getting
- 16:34Speaker 2: him back to Oakland, or let's say he goes to
- 16:37Speaker 2: a team like Philadelphia, where I think that'd be a
- 16:40Speaker 2: really good fit. I think either one would be a
- 16:42Speaker 2: really cool story. But getting him back in Oakland, getting
- 16:45Speaker 2: that star player back and adding to that young core
- 16:47Speaker 2: that they have and trying to maximize these postseason chances
- 16:50Speaker 2: would be a really cool thing because they were super
- 16:52Speaker 2: aggressive in the offseason and extending these young guys. They
- 16:55Speaker 2: tried for Nick Kurtz did not end up getting that
- 16:57Speaker 2: thing done, but they got a bunch of that young
- 16:59Speaker 2: core signed, and if you had chat into it, that
- 17:01Speaker 2: would just be I think icing on the cake and
- 17:03Speaker 2: a really good thing for ACE fans to be excited about,
- 17:05Speaker 2: and especially for the fans there in Vegas and further
- 17:09Speaker 2: draw fan attraction there for sure.
- 17:13Speaker 7: All right, So moving out of the mediocre al let's
- 17:15Speaker 7: go to the cream of the crop in the NL.
- 17:17Speaker 6: Milwaukee.
- 17:18Speaker 7: Robert, we've heard you say that you think this is
- 17:20Speaker 7: the time to make a big move. We know they
- 17:22Speaker 7: tried last year to no avail, But is this the
- 17:24Speaker 7: year they do it?
- 17:25Speaker 6: You think so? Man, run us through what happens.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Boy, this should be the year because last year they
- 17:31Speaker 2: tracked for Gino Suarez like it was not for a
- 17:33Speaker 2: lack of effort that they didn't get him. And this
- 17:35Speaker 2: year they still need a power hitter in that ladut
- 17:38Speaker 2: like they lack slug and I think that's something that
- 17:40Speaker 2: could be.
- 17:40Speaker 3: An issue come postseason time.
- 17:42Speaker 2: But if I'm the Brewers I see this opportunity that
- 17:45Speaker 2: we have where you have Jacob Mazerowski who looks otherworldly,
- 17:49Speaker 2: you have Kyle Harrison who looks great. Brandon Woodruff is
- 17:52Speaker 2: back healthy and he's looked very good so far. If
- 17:55Speaker 2: you can add a Trek Schooble type, I think that
- 17:57Speaker 2: would be incredible, and that would end up putting them
- 18:00Speaker 2: in a position where they can not only compete with
- 18:02Speaker 2: the Dodgers, but they could legit beat the Dodgers, like
- 18:04Speaker 2: they would have a chance to really just be a
- 18:07Speaker 2: postseason matchup nightmare, because if you have to face those
- 18:10Speaker 2: three guys consistently in a postseason series like that, just
- 18:13Speaker 2: that does not sound fun at all. And they have
- 18:15Speaker 2: this ability where they can put the ball and play
- 18:17Speaker 2: on offense. They steal bases, they're super aggressive on the
- 18:20Speaker 2: base paths. If you can end up adding Schooble, they
- 18:23Speaker 2: could end up making them the World Series favorites. Again,
- 18:26Speaker 2: they need to add another bat, So like it should
- 18:28Speaker 2: if they get Schooble, this should like it shouldn't like.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Hold them back from adding another bat.
- 18:33Speaker 2: But this feels like the year where they need to
- 18:35Speaker 2: put their chips in, like add or take away some
- 18:38Speaker 2: pieces from that top ranked farm system in baseball and
- 18:41Speaker 2: go for it because this year it's super winnable, Like
- 18:44Speaker 2: there's no teams that are running away with it in
- 18:46Speaker 2: the American League. You look at the Nationalague, obviously the
- 18:48Speaker 2: Dodgers that get to be there in the end. The
- 18:50Speaker 2: Phillies look much better than they did at the start
- 18:53Speaker 2: of the year. The Braves kind of fallen back. Why
- 18:55Speaker 2: they're still leading that division. It's very winnable, and I
- 18:57Speaker 2: think Milwaukee mark out the nasio, should put the chips
- 18:59Speaker 2: in the middle and try to get this thing done.
- 19:03Speaker 7: Yeah, we got to hope Ashby gets into the All
- 19:05Speaker 7: Star Game. Man, that guy's gonna finish the year with
- 19:07Speaker 7: twenty five wins or something that'd be that'd be incredible.
- 19:09Speaker 7: How about moving over to the NL East a little bit, uh,
- 19:12Speaker 7: you know, Philly obviously Surgeon coming up for the Braves.
- 19:16Speaker 7: Two teams that we expect to make moves. But the
- 19:20Speaker 7: one that everyone's asking about there is Miami and Sandy
- 19:23Speaker 7: And what are they gonna do? Having an unbelievable June
- 19:25Speaker 7: or had an unbelievable June and now they find themselves
- 19:28Speaker 7: in this position kind of what I mentioned earlier.
- 19:30Speaker 6: Should we buy, Should we sell? Should we do a
- 19:31Speaker 6: little bit of both?
- 19:32Speaker 2: Uh?
- 19:32Speaker 7: You know, what do you see from Miami? And do
- 19:35Speaker 7: you think they're gonna move someone like Sandy.
- 19:37Speaker 2: I would be really surprised if they move Sandy all Contra.
- 19:40Speaker 2: This to me feels like the time and based on
- 19:42Speaker 2: what I've heard is they would like to they would
- 19:45Speaker 2: like to buy, and if they can go out and
- 19:47Speaker 2: buy and add to this core and keep Sandy a Contra,
- 19:50Speaker 2: you're talking about a team that surgeon right now, they
- 19:53Speaker 2: could legitimately have a chance of getting like like hosting
- 19:56Speaker 2: a playoff game, like it's or like it's just it's
- 19:59Speaker 2: really exciting what's going on here in Miami. And we've
- 20:02Speaker 2: talked about them for years possibly selling Sanduel Contra, moving
- 20:05Speaker 2: some of these young pieces or veteran pieces.
- 20:08Speaker 3: I should say, but this feels like the kind.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Of year where you like, hold firm, you buy if
- 20:14Speaker 2: the opportunities there. I don't know if it's necessarily going
- 20:16Speaker 2: to be a big splash by any means if they
- 20:17Speaker 2: do add, but I love what they're building. I think
- 20:20Speaker 2: Peter Bendix and CLAYT. McCullough have done a lovely job there.
- 20:22Speaker 2: I think that team is just really looks like a
- 20:26Speaker 2: different team compared to years pass and this feels sustainable.
- 20:29Speaker 2: So if I'm the Marlins, I hold on to my pieces,
- 20:31Speaker 2: I add to this thing, and not only this year,
- 20:33Speaker 2: but in years forward. You try to compete, because now
- 20:36Speaker 2: feels like the time for the Miami Marlins to keep
- 20:39Speaker 2: this thing together and try to compete.
- 20:42Speaker 4: Is there a bigger ticking time bomb than Dave Dombrowski,
- 20:45Speaker 4: an aging roster and his aggressiveness that we could see
- 20:50Speaker 4: a massive Philly because you had already said you said
- 20:52Speaker 4: Preller and Depoto, and Dave Dombroski was.
- 20:55Speaker 5: Like, does Robert not know who I am?
- 20:58Speaker 4: Like, it's David, You're gonna call him.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I was a huge oversight, but I can't believe
- 21:04Speaker 2: I left out Dave Dombroska. We all know Dave Dombroski
- 21:07Speaker 2: like deadline seasons his time to shine, and he has
- 21:10Speaker 2: not been afraid of making big moves in the past.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Obviously you look at his history, He's made big moves
- 21:14Speaker 2: as far as.
- 21:14Speaker 3: The pitching side goes.
- 21:16Speaker 2: But I think this could be the year where they
- 21:18Speaker 2: try to go out and add a bat, like they're
- 21:20Speaker 2: gonna be looking for a starting Pitcher. Don't get me wrong,
- 21:22Speaker 2: but I think Matt Chapman is a great fit there.
- 21:24Speaker 2: And obviously you have Alec Bohm there, but he's a
- 21:26Speaker 2: frigent at the end of the year, and if you
- 21:27Speaker 2: acquire a guy like Chapman, you can end up having
- 21:30Speaker 2: a guy.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Who's there for the foreseeable future.
- 21:32Speaker 2: It ends up adding another star player or really high
- 21:36Speaker 2: level player to that roster. It increases their chances of
- 21:39Speaker 2: winning now and maximizing the time when you have Bryce Harper,
- 21:42Speaker 2: when you have Trey Turner, Kyle Schwarber, all these guys
- 21:45Speaker 2: before they get too far along in their careers here.
- 21:47Speaker 2: So I think he would make a ton of sense.
- 21:49Speaker 2: But I think this could end up being the time
- 21:51Speaker 2: where I think Dombroski tries.
- 21:53Speaker 3: To make a big move.
- 21:54Speaker 2: And if it's not a Chapman type, the guy that
- 21:56Speaker 2: other teams think would be a great fit in Philly
- 21:58Speaker 2: would be Taylor Ward. I don't know if Baltimore is
- 22:00Speaker 2: gonna be in a position where they want to sell,
- 22:02Speaker 2: but if you can add a guy like Taylor Ward
- 22:04Speaker 2: to that team, that could end up just really enhancing
- 22:07Speaker 2: their postseason chances here because he does not have the
- 22:10Speaker 2: same power year this year as he has in years past.
- 22:12Speaker 2: But it's in there for sure. You get in with
- 22:14Speaker 2: Kevin Long and maybe you can end up getting that
- 22:17Speaker 2: power hitter back and adding that to that lineup.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Oh boy, like that.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Would be not only in that division, but that would
- 22:23Speaker 2: be a nightmare scenario I think for a bunch of
- 22:25Speaker 2: different teams in the National League.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a good call.
- 22:28Speaker 1: I feel like they've all but said this outfield, don't
- 22:31Speaker 1: get used to it. It's going to look different after
- 22:34Speaker 1: the trade deadline. And then man, if they have Chapman
- 22:37Speaker 1: and Duran eight nine, that's all that's special. Yeah, that's
- 22:43Speaker 1: saying something. Robert Good catching up man, And also just
- 22:46Speaker 1: want to remind everyone Baseball Insiders, Robert Show is roaring
