- 0:11I can't keep I am. Joshua Roberts from the band Magnolia park shout out
- 0:22to Good Things part for having me and it's gonna be a good time.
- 0:26Hedful, Joshua, thanks for joining us tonight, brother m thank you for
- 0:30having me. All my pleasure. So Magnolia Parker headed to Australia to perform
- 0:34at the Good Things Festival, starting in Melbourne on December first, before hitting
- 0:39Sydney and Brisbane over consecutive days. So I'd actually still a fair way off,
- 0:44mate, but how you feel and it must be pretty exciting. It's
- 0:47so exciting just to see that the lineup and be a part of this legendary
- 0:51festival is amazing. It's amazing. It also features a host of other bands
- 0:56including Fallout Boy, Limp, Biscuit, Are Prevailable of My Balance, sign
- 1:00Corey Tyler, Supulture, Pennywise, You're good, go on all night Bright.
- 1:03But who are you most looking forward to playing rhythm? Why? Oh
- 1:07man? It's between Bila Boy and the Plot in You, just because both
- 1:15bands are just so amazing, Like we played with us to Atlantic before and
- 1:19we love watching them play, so it's gonna be awesome to see them again.
- 1:23And I'm all awesome Paris. Paris is a fun band to watch,
- 1:26So it's gonna be a lot of a lot of good times for us,
- 1:30especially with the variety of the bands that are playing today. Well on the
- 1:34festivals. Yeah, I wonder the beautiful things about festivals all this is there's
- 1:38so many bands on the bill, and a lot of people catch up with
- 1:42bands I guess that they never would have otherwise seen or heard of. For
- 1:46the benefit of those going that haven't heard of Magnolia Park before, mate,
- 1:49give us a bit of an introduction to the band and tell them what to
- 1:51expect. All right, So, magnel It Park is a I won't like
- 1:55to call us a hybrid pop punk style of band because we put so much
- 1:59fusion and in different cultures and sounds and our music. We are very energetic.
- 2:07We most of our songs are mainly about you know, like mental health
- 2:09problems and like you know, being broke on a Tuesday, yea. So
- 2:17so it definitely has a little bit of a little bit of everything in our
- 2:21music, and I think that people would like it, I think, and
- 2:23it would give us a chance and that you've been out here before. No,
- 2:27no, no, this would be our first time in Australia. Yeah,
- 2:29So what do you do with things like that? Man? Like do
- 2:30you do? You do your homework and sort of find out what do you
- 2:32expect and talk to people and see what you come into what he did coming
- 2:36cold and just take it as it comes a little bit of both, Like
- 2:39I don't want to do too much research around the areas and then be like,
- 2:43all right, I want to see this. I want to see that.
- 2:45I'd rather just like kind of be in the moment sometimes. But I've
- 2:50definitely heard heard some good things about Australia and I can't wait to I can't
- 2:53wait to experience it. And then just like just the culture alone and just
- 2:58the environment. I'd love to be there. So what are you expecting from
- 3:00us? Mate? Have you got in any expectations? Oh? Man,
- 3:05No expectations. I want to keep I want to keep everything wide open to
- 3:09all the possibilities, like every single possibility. If you can see any koalas
- 3:15or kangaroos that I love it, But you know who else, Like on
- 3:20the flip side of that, then what can we expect from you, my
- 3:22friend? Oh? Oh man? Energy, A lot of energy, a
- 3:25lot of a lot of running back and forth, a lot of a lot
- 3:30of good times and good vibes just all all around. So you sort of
- 3:35touch on this before we describe the band. But your music features an interesting
- 3:38blend of hip hop, hard rock, pop, park alternity pop. There's
- 3:42a lot of styles in there, mate, But how do you actually balance
- 3:44all of those in the creative process? Like, how do you know if
- 3:46you've got chick far with one thing or not another. I think for us
- 3:51we just love to create and push the boundary as much as we can,
- 3:54so whenever it comes to our sounds really a right cool. We have this
- 4:00foundation, Let's see how far we could put this foundation without breaking the foundation.
- 4:05So we kind of like go as far as you possibly can, and
- 4:08then we're like, all right, school, this is it. This is
- 4:10where, this is where the line starts right here. So it's a very
- 4:14very fine line. But we love we love the balance on it pretty well.
- 4:17And you released two EPs at once last Friday and Mooney and Solid,
- 4:21so I'd haven't been out long man, But how's the earlier response being?
- 4:25Been? Really good? Really good for both EPs. I feel like everyone
- 4:29has a song that they've been lashing onto from both EPs, which is what
- 4:32we wanted. So it's perfect a way how that's been coming out. The
- 4:35two EPs differ musically, with Mooney to showcase in more of the rock metal
- 4:40side of the band and Solid to feature and synthesizes and sort of poppy elements.
- 4:44So what was the reason behind releasing them together rather than spacing them out.
- 4:48I don't just to show that that, like all the stuff that we
- 4:51have been working on, We've been working on something leading up to all of
- 4:55this, and we wanted to showcase like the kind of yang and yang of
- 5:00our of our musicale and musically and in talent and stuff like that. So
- 5:04we want to be like, all right, cool, let's just about both
- 5:08at the same time, and let's see what people like. Let's see let's
- 5:10just get a really good feel for what people are wanting from Magnolia Park.
- 5:15And now we mentioned it, the boy of them is sort of different a
- 5:17little bit musically, Like which which stole would you say, Magnoli parks more
- 5:21comfortable to which one comes easier to you? Which one do you have to
- 5:25work at more? Oh? Man, I think it's hard. It's hard
- 5:29because both both styles have a certain place in our hearts to say which when
- 5:34fits more me personally, I love like just like the heavier style, I
- 5:41get to like let Louis vocally a little bit more. But I think as
- 5:44a band, I think we love that that trap beat element a lot whenever
- 5:48it comes to creating. I was sort of touched on this way, but
- 5:51I want to think lib right a little bit. Like the press release says
- 5:55that the two EPs of Magnolia Park's way of showcasing the duality that exists within
- 6:00themselves. Like how hard is that to do musically? Mate? Like,
- 6:03you know, but everyone's got their own persona, their personality and stuff.
- 6:05But you're you're trying to bring out those different sides through music. Is that
- 6:10difficult? It can be. It can be very difficult. But I think
- 6:14we've been making it work and managing. I mean, for we have we
- 6:16have certain songs that like doesn't fit either side, and we end up either
- 6:21like doing them as like some solo stuff, or we end up doing it
- 6:25as like or just end up scrapping it, leaving it to leaving it on
- 6:29the side. It's just more of what we love more. Basically, it's
- 6:33like we have to like pick and choose but but we we kind of go
- 6:38through it really well. Whenever it comes to just balancing it really aren't cool.
- 6:43We have a list of songs we do t we we basically go through
- 6:46the Tally method, who likes this? Like this, and then kind of
- 6:50going that direction. So I prepared to the bean withd from the start.
- 6:56How do these two EPs differ musically from your debut album Backs that came out
- 7:00last year, ah Man so Baku's Revenge. I felt as if this is
- 7:05more of a more of a pop punk like traditional style, a little bit
- 7:11of track beat. I think with these we kind of took took the not
- 7:16really extremist approach, but like we definitely made sure that we have a lot
- 7:21going on in these sounds to make sure that people knew that, hey,
- 7:26we were working on something even bigger than what we could have before. So
- 7:30Good Things isn't until December, mate, So we've got a couple of months
- 7:33between now and then. So what are you guys up to that period?
- 7:38So in October we're doing a Helino tour in the US on the West coast,
- 7:44let me probably dropping some more music who knows, and then just getting
- 7:48ready for Good Things before we let you go. Mate. We started up
- 7:53three news Spotify playlists through heavy so using your own songs, mate, give
- 7:58me a song for each days. We've got one for to get the party
- 8:01started. We've got one playlist help save your marriage, and one playlist that
- 8:05could potentially end your marriage. Oh out of the three? Yeah? All
- 8:13three? So one song of your own for each playlist? Oh man,
- 8:18and I have to choose. Yeah, man, this is the your way
- 8:20of providing your music. So the song that can potentially end your marriage is
- 8:24definitely lve for sure. Uh a song that could save marriage? Unholy heart?
- 8:35And then what was the first one? Again? I wanted to get
- 8:37the party started. I want to get the party started. Bud love,
- 8:41I'd like blood yeah, beautiful jo Sure all, thanks very much for your
- 8:46time. I've been an absolute closure to getting to know. Magnolia Park will
- 8:50be in Australia as part of Good Things Festival this December. But in the
- 8:54meantime, brother, you take care and we'll see you out here. I
- 9:07can't keep breathe. Let's see to Ry come alone. I just stuck it
- 9:22compression down. Anytime now I can take it on your throat. You are
- 9:28the one that replying, I broke in ways. It's like ice in my
- 9:33head. I can't let this silence triend feelings, same basis, but I
- 9:43can't keep breathe. Let see to try, know that I take breath,
- 10:07trying to make gay you not even got the same day, and my body's
- 10:13in the first day and no one think it. Says says that stay real
- 10:20words like ye an. I can't rest this silence friend feelings, truss burnings.
- 10:31I try keep breathe say to try, just to know that God take
- 10:50breath. Nightfall stop tas can get day from the ones that Saturday can't,
- 11:01the lost kids, the meets pretenct and he was he played on his fam
- 11:09let me time to save Man, and my sky was the seeling and he
- 11:16broke, and he broke that to see I take it, breathe, to
- 11:31keep breathing, to try to take breath. He would be a
