- 0:00Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:03access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing genuine
- 0:07issues. Brought to you by the
- 0:10hypnotherapist, demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:14royalty. Adam Cox.
- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:45Hi, it's Adam here. And you're about to listen to a
- 0:48hypnosis session specifically for medical anxiety.
- 0:53And I was working with the client with a particular type of
- 0:56medical anxiety and that was having a blood pressure reading.
- 1:00And if you've ever had your blood pressure taken, you'll
- 1:02know it's one of these inflatable things that goes
- 1:05normally around your forearm or your bicep, inflates and then it
- 1:09gives a blood pressure reading. And blood pressure is quite a
- 1:12good clue as to overall health in certain metrics.
- 1:18It kind of let's doctors know what's going on.
- 1:20The problem with blood pressure is that it can lead to false
- 1:24positives. So if someone's really anxious
- 1:26at the idea of a blood pressure test and then they can do the
- 1:30blood pressure, but it's not showing their overall health and
- 1:33well-being, it's actually showing their anxiety levels.
- 1:36So it's a false positive. And this client had had an early
- 1:40experience of having a blood pressure test when they were
- 1:43very anxious. And it gave this false reading.
- 1:46And then because of that, that concerned doctors, you know,
- 1:49projected that concern to them. And then they started to worry
- 1:52about their overall health. But there was nothing wrong with
- 1:55them. It was just because the.
- 1:56Reading was off because of their.
- 1:59Anxiety So in this hypnosis session.
- 2:02There's a metaphor. Of seven stepping stones that
- 2:05represent a. Form of.
- 2:07Desensitization, so doing a home test, but then changing the
- 2:12variables, they feel more and more comfortable getting closer
- 2:16and closer to how it would be to actually have a blood pressure
- 2:19test either in a hospital or a clinic.
- 2:22So if you do have some form of medical anxiety or blood
- 2:27pressure anxiety, I think you'll get some value from this
- 2:29particular session. But if you just have, let's say,
- 2:33anxiety in a different area of your life, just consider the
- 2:36stepping stone to be a metaphor and allow your mind to replace
- 2:41it with seven different things that would be more and more
- 2:45aligned with you doing the thing that you currently don't believe
- 2:48that you can do. And of course, if you like the
- 2:51idea of a bespoke session where you're actually working with me
- 2:55directly rather than listening to a recording, there will be a
- 2:58link in the description where you can book a free consultation
- 3:01call to explore working with me. And if you're interested in
- 3:04listening to hypnosis sessions without my explanations as to
- 3:08what the session is all about and you just want to listen to
- 3:11the hypnosis, then I've actually got 22 hypnosis downloads that
- 3:14you can get completely free again by clicking a different
- 3:18link in the description. So check those out.
- 3:21For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 3:24won't be disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 3:59Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 4:06slow, long, relaxing breath. And as you exhale, feel that
- 4:14wonderful sense of release as it feels like you're giving
- 4:19permission for tension or worries to just be released in
- 4:26your outward breath. With each breath, allow yourself
- 4:32to feel deeper and deeper, relaxed, each breath taking you
- 4:40deeper and more relaxed than the last.
- 4:44That's in. And as your body relaxes, give
- 4:52permission for your imagination to awaken.
- 4:58And I wonder whether you could imagine being in a beautiful
- 5:05place high up on a hill or a small mountain, the kind of
- 5:13place where you can just see for miles.
- 5:19Perhaps you could imagine seeing blue skies, rolling hills,
- 5:28perhaps even towns or buildings, maybe even the sea.
- 5:41And as you breathe in and breathe out, just imagine that
- 5:45this place represents harmony and so many things have harmony.
- 5:57It's impossible for vegetables to grow in the ground unless
- 6:02there's the right balance of sunshine and rainwater and
- 6:08nutrition in the soil. I want you to get a sands
- 6:15thinner. There is an ambience in certain
- 6:19places. People naturally adjust to
- 6:25certain places. They adjust the volume of their
- 6:29speech to fit in with the energy of their surroundings.
- 6:37So there in that place, I want you to feel a harmony and a
- 6:44frequency of peace and relaxation.
- 6:53And I want you to notice how effortless it is to be
- 7:00thoughtful in the most useful ways.
- 7:05The taste of something delicious is a thought, a thought of
- 7:09mindfulness. Seeing the scenery perhaps leads
- 7:19to a thought of gratitude. I want you to get a sense that
- 7:26thoughts can be useful or unuseful, and when you think
- 7:34about things that makes your life enhanced.
- 7:40Noticing something you value, reducing a risk, or perhaps
- 7:49appreciating something wonderful.
- 7:54That's when thinking becomes useful.
- 8:00But sometimes you can do things that are unuseful.
- 8:09It's useful to plant a seed in soil because it will grow the
- 8:15same seed thrown into the ocean may do nothing at all.
- 8:22And I want you to think of worrying that.
- 8:30If the worry is are variables that you can't control, can't
- 8:40reduce, then it becomes unuseful worry.
- 8:49But if the thought is about a genuine risk that you can reduce
- 8:56or prepare for, then the worry is useful.
- 9:02And I want you to give yourself permission to let go of those
- 9:08things that are more useless than useful.
- 9:16And I want you to create in your imagination a pond there in that
- 9:27peaceful place with 7 stepping stones.
- 9:34And on the other side of the pond, we can call this the
- 9:42freedom of useful thinking. The pond is too big for you to
- 9:50leap across in one jump, but the stepping stones mean that each
- 9:57step is very achievable compared to the last step.
- 10:06And I want these stepping stones to represent incremental
- 10:12challenges that expand your comfort zone slightly beyond
- 10:20what you've done before. But in doing so, your comfort
- 10:24zone expands. I want you to imagine standing
- 10:30just in front of the first stepping stone.
- 10:37And as you look at the stepping stone, just imagine your own
- 10:40home with a blood pressure test unit.
- 10:48And as you step onto the first step, find yourself in your own
- 10:52home doing a blood pressure test on your arm or evaluating your
- 11:02numbers, but at a different time of the day, maybe the afternoon
- 11:09or the evening. Not something you'd normally do,
- 11:14but this gives you evidence that you can test your own blood
- 11:21pressure at any time and once. This feels like it's something
- 11:32within your comfort zone, even if you have to imagine it 234 or
- 11:38more times. Once you can feel what it would
- 11:42feel like to do it without any concern, any stress, any
- 11:46anxiety, let me know by nodding your head and then take the next
- 11:52step. Also imagine you're in your own
- 11:57home but this time you found some kind of medical sound
- 12:05effects, maybe on YouTube, maybe on a special effects library and
- 12:12just loop the sound of beeps and medical sounds.
- 12:21Maybe it's sounds of a hospital or a clinic and just allow the
- 12:27sounds to be there in the background and notice after a
- 12:34few attempts you can take your blood pressure.
- 12:38Even if there's those medical sound effects and it just
- 12:42doesn't bother you at all. Take the next step now and this
- 12:49time maybe you keep the medical sound effects.
- 12:53Maybe it's still the afternoon, but now there's people there,
- 12:58maybe people you know. And again, do that blood
- 13:05pressure test enough times until it feels like this is no big
- 13:11deal at all. This is manageable.
- 13:13This is something you can do. And when this feels well within
- 13:21your comfort zone, let me know about nodding your head.
- 13:28That's it. And then take the next stepping
- 13:31stone. This time I want you to imagine
- 13:35that you've discovered a public restroom, maybe a disabled
- 13:43toilet, where you will have privacy.
- 13:44But there was something about the lighting and the smell of
- 13:48that room that just reminds you of some kind of hospital or
- 13:53clinic. It isn't.
- 13:56Maybe the toilet is in a library or a supermarket, but that
- 14:05lighting and the smell reminds you of a hospital.
- 14:10And in that private restroom, imagine doing a blood pressure
- 14:16reading on yourself, only taking a few moments until you can be
- 14:21outside of your home under that harsh clinical lighting, that
- 14:30smell of industrial detergents, and it still feels fine.
- 14:40And then imagine the next step of the stepping stone, like
- 14:44graduating the level of a game. I want you to imagine a walk in
- 14:53clinic, the kind of place where people walk in for emergencies.
- 15:01Consider it an urgent care room, but instead of going up to a
- 15:06desk and registering, just discreetly find a chair in that
- 15:14waiting area. You're not going into a clinic
- 15:21room, it's just the reception, just the waiting area and there.
- 15:28Unpack your blood pressure monitor and just take a reading.
- 15:38It's now a medical type of building other people around,
- 15:44but you're doing it on your terms and maybe it takes two or
- 15:50three attempts or more, but you don't care.
- 15:55You will keep doing it until in this public waiting area gives
- 16:01you the same reading that you're getting at home.
- 16:07When you can imagine that, Let me know about nodding your head
- 16:13and then imagine scheduling a blood pressure test at a local
- 16:17pharmacy. It's now not you doing the test
- 16:23on yourself, someone else's, but you have created the evaluation
- 16:30that you can handle this. This is just slightly outside of
- 16:34your comfort zone. Now at this point, your comfort
- 16:39zone has expanded so much that this feels like just the next
- 16:44logical step. And maybe maybe they take a
- 16:52couple of tests, or maybe they take one test and it's slightly
- 16:57higher than the reading you would have at home and just ask
- 16:59them to do another one or schedule another time to come
- 17:04back until you feel that even someone else doing a blood
- 17:09pressure test on you is also within your comfort zone.
- 17:15And when that feels like that's real, you know, by nodding your
- 17:25head And then imagine scheduling a full health check.
- 17:35Maybe there's blood samples, urine samples, weight and body
- 17:42fat, BMI, but also blood pressure.
- 17:47Imagine it's thorough, and imagine even scheduling it gets
- 17:52you thinking about how it's going to be fine when it
- 17:55happens. If there is any anxiety, you are
- 18:01desensitizing yourself to it, and if there isn't, it's
- 18:04evidence of progress. But even just by scheduling, it
- 18:09moves you forwards. And then imagine the day comes.
- 18:15Maybe you drive to that place or someone drops you off, and maybe
- 18:23that whole health checkup takes an hour or two.
- 18:28But imagine how it would feel to do that and to feel that you've
- 18:36faced something that in the past would have triggered something
- 18:41extreme, and now it feels like no big deal.
- 18:51And as you imagine leaving that hospital, that clinic, I want
- 18:57you to get a sense that you have expanded your comfort zone so
- 19:02much that things that used to worry you no longer do.
- 19:07But that doesn't mean that your brain will be looking for
- 19:11something else to worry. Because changing one worry for
- 19:17another worry would be like replacing 1 broken item in your
- 19:23home for something else that's also broken.
- 19:28If it's not useful, then it's useless.
- 19:32But what if you could deploy all of that thinking power, all of
- 19:39that cognitive juice, and deploy it in a way that enriches your
- 19:44life, that gives you more mindfulness, more
- 19:49thoughtfulness, the ability to learn and evaluate wonderful
- 19:55things that enhance your life? Or maybe it's finding the kind
- 20:03of things that challenge and stimulate your brain.
- 20:08A puzzle, a teaser, a crossword, Sudoku.
- 20:14Something that enhances your cognitive processing power.
- 20:23Because if that cognitive energy needs to be deployed somewhere,
- 20:28why not be intentional about where you use that same thought
- 20:36processing power? And you don't have to decide
- 20:41now, just set the intention that all of that thinking that was
- 20:48being wasted before can now be deployed in a way that enriches
- 20:54and enhances your life rather than wastes all of that precious
- 21:01resources. And then you found yourself on
- 21:06the other side of the pond. Consider this your future.
- 21:13A future of more options, more freedom, less anxiety.
- 21:20A future where you defeated a fear by walking towards it and
- 21:28then it occurs to you. Fear is like shadows and action
- 21:37is like light, and the more action you take, the more more
- 21:43fear disappears. And as you hold that thought,
- 21:49it's time to leave this place in your imagination and return all
- 21:54the way back to the. Here and now.
- 21:58So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 22:03nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 22:05wiggle your toes. Connect and calibrate into the
- 22:07here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken
- 22:13you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 22:19456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 22:22Open your eyes 910. Wide awake.
- 22:26Wide awake. Wide awake.
