- 0:03Speaker 1: The 1986 scavenger hunt is almost complete. 40 years in
- 0:08Speaker 1: the making?
- 0:09Speaker 2: Well, not quite.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Olivia and Addison found the information about the scavenger hunt
- 0:15Speaker 1: and the first clue in a library book. Now, with
- 0:19Speaker 1: the last clue in hand, they're ready to solve the
- 0:22Speaker 1: final clue. Did you miss the first three.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Episodes of this miniseries?
- 0:27Speaker 1: It's okay. Jump back and start with episode one. It's
- 0:31Speaker 1: called Hidden Thanks. We'll wait right here for you.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Okay, everyone ready?
- 0:37Speaker 1: Let's join Addison and Olivia for the last clue in
- 0:41Speaker 1: today's episode called 101.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Last clue. Let's read it again.
- 0:48Speaker 4: Okay, the last clue. Look for where 100 have sung.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Praising the one.
- 0:57Speaker 3: The one with a capital O. So this has to
- 1:00Speaker 3: be a place where people sing hymns and praise, right?
- 1:03Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely. The church?
- 1:05Speaker 3: That's the obvious answer, yeah. But where else do people
- 1:09Speaker 3: sing praises?
- 1:10Speaker 2: Um, anywhere. Some people sing all the time.
- 1:13Speaker 3: True, but hundreds. So this is a group, like a choir.
- 1:18Speaker 2: It's got to be the Harmony Corner Church. Lead on.
- 1:30Speaker 3: So, where to start?
- 1:32Speaker 5: So, Reader, we can plan for next week, then?
- 1:36Speaker 6: Sure, Jake.
- 1:37Speaker 5: Oh, hey, Olivia and Addison. Giving up on your scavenger.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Hunt, eh?
- 1:41Speaker 4: No.
- 1:42Speaker 3: We're on our last clue.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Wait, what? Yeah, we found all four clues.
- 1:48Speaker 6: What's all this about? Oh, look, Reader.
- 1:50Speaker 3: I signed out this book at the library and this
- 1:53Speaker 3: was in it.
- 1:55Speaker 6: Oh, now that looks familiar.
- 1:57Speaker 3: It's a flyer for a scavenger hunt for the youth
- 1:59Speaker 3: group in 1986.
- 2:02Speaker 6: Lead on. The Discovery Mountain Youth Department.
- 2:06Speaker 7: Huh.
- 2:07Speaker 6: I remember this.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Reader, you were a youth in 1986? You were a
- 2:13Speaker 2: part of the scavenger hunt?
- 2:14Speaker 6: Well, not exactly. I was a young teacher in those days.
- 2:18Speaker 6: But I definitely remember this flyer. I must have helped
- 2:22Speaker 6: with it.
- 2:23Speaker 3: So maybe you can help us. What does the last
- 2:25Speaker 3: clue mean?
- 2:26Speaker 5: Hey, that's cheating sort of, isn't it?
- 2:29Speaker 6: No, it's not a contest, Jake. What's the clue?
- 2:33Speaker 3: Look where 100 have sung, praising the one. Huh.
- 2:38Speaker 6: Now I should know this.
- 2:41Speaker 2: It has to be the church.
- 2:43Speaker 6: I'd agree, but I'm not remembering.
- 2:46Speaker 5: Where 100 have sung? That must be a choir.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yeah, and the choir sings up front.
- 2:56Speaker 3: It's a great view from up front. Now, what in
- 2:59Speaker 3: this area is from 40 years ago?
- 3:02Speaker 2: The church is older than that. Is something hidden in
- 3:05Speaker 2: the walls? Like a secret passage?
- 3:08Speaker 5: Ooh, that'd be amazing!
- 3:10Speaker 7: No.
- 3:11Speaker 6: No, this was the last clue. So you're not looking
- 3:15Speaker 6: for another clue. You're looking for a conclusion.
- 3:18Speaker 3: A conclusion? Oh, so something the youth department leaders planned
- 3:23Speaker 3: so that all the youth came back to the church.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Yes.
- 3:27Speaker 3: I remember.
- 3:28Speaker 5: Oh, good.
- 3:29Speaker 2: What is it?
- 3:30Speaker 6: Um, you'll figure it out. You're a good team. Use
- 3:34Speaker 6: your powers of observation.
- 3:36Speaker 5: Reader, you're acting like a teacher.
- 3:39Speaker 6: Well, once a teacher, always a teacher, I'm afraid.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Okay, no, that's fair. Let's study the clue. Where 100
- 3:48Speaker 3: have sung, hmm, it doesn't say a hundred, which is
- 3:53Speaker 3: how you might normally say that sentence.
- 3:55Speaker 2: No, 100 is more like an intentional number.
- 3:58Speaker 5: 100? You're looking for a hundred of something.
- 4:02Speaker 3: I guess.
- 4:03Speaker 2: 100. 100.
- 4:05Speaker 6: Hmm.
- 4:07Speaker 2: But look, it says praising the one.
- 4:10Speaker 4: It could have said praising God or praising our Savior
- 4:12Speaker 4: or one of the many names for God.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Oh, you think the one is another number clue?
- 4:18Speaker 2: I mean, maybe. So 101?
- 4:19Speaker 5: That's it, Jake.
- 4:20Speaker 1: 101.
- 4:20Speaker 5: That's our number. A hundred and one.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Oh yeah, of course.
- 4:28Speaker 5: I'm brilliant.
- 4:30Speaker 4: So, 101 what?
- 4:35Speaker 3: Use our powers of observation.
- 4:37Speaker 4: Good.
- 4:38Speaker 5: What are there 101 of in the church?
- 4:42Speaker 2: Candles? No. Pews?
- 4:45Speaker 3: Uh, no, not quite.
- 4:47Speaker 4: People?
- 4:48Speaker 5: Not at this moment. Just empty pews. Nothing but hymnals.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Hymnals? Jake, that's it. Right, reader?
- 4:57Speaker 6: Take a look and see.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Hymn 101.
- 5:03Speaker 5: What is it?
- 5:03Speaker 2: Which hymn? He leadeth me.
- 5:07Speaker 4: Oh, the conclusion of the lead-on scavenger hunt.
- 5:11Speaker 6: You got it. It's such a beautiful hymn.
- 5:14Speaker 4: It is.
- 5:16Speaker 3: He leadeth me, O blessed thought, O words with heavenly
- 5:19Speaker 3: comfort fraught, Whatever I do, wherever I be, still tis
- 5:24Speaker 3: God's hand that leadeth me.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Oh, that fits so well. The scavenger hunt was full
- 5:29Speaker 4: of clues showing that God leads us.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Oh, the chorus for this hymn is amazing. I'll sing
- 5:35Speaker 5: it for us. He leadeth me.
- 5:38Speaker 1: He leadeth me.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Uh, my dear brother, why doesn't Reeder sing it for us?
- 5:44Speaker 3: You know, for old time's sake.
- 5:46Speaker 4: Oh, sure.
- 5:48Speaker 6: Let's see. Putting me on the spot here, a cappella.
- 5:55Speaker 7: He leadeth me, he leadeth me, by his own hand
- 6:02Speaker 7: he leadeth me. His faithful follower I would be, for
- 6:10Speaker 7: by his hand he leadeth me.
- 6:14Speaker 5: Oh, that's beautiful.
- 6:17Speaker 6: Yes, as I recall, the church was full of youth.
- 6:21Speaker 6: We had a lot more kids in town in those
- 6:23Speaker 6: days than we do now. We were packed.
- 6:26Speaker 3: And that was the conclusion. What a faith exercise.
- 6:30Speaker 5: Yes, absolutely.
- 6:32Speaker 4: I'm so glad that someone used the flyer and clue
- 6:35Speaker 4: number one as a bookmark.
- 6:37Speaker 6: Now, let me see that book.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. It's about Alaska.
- 6:42Speaker 6: Alaska. Yes. My friend and I were planning a trip
- 6:46Speaker 6: to Alaska the summer of 86. We weren't able to go.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Reader, did you put these things in the book?
- 6:54Speaker 6: Well, I might have. I don't recall, but it's very possible.
- 6:58Speaker 3: And you helped us finish the scavenger hunt.
- 7:01Speaker 4: It's inspiring to think of youth filling this church and
- 7:03Speaker 4: singing praises all those years ago.
- 7:06Speaker 5: This church has been a place where faith grows for
- 7:08Speaker 5: a long time.
- 7:10Speaker 6: It sure has.
- 7:12Speaker 5: We should have a scavenger hunt for our youth group.
- 7:15Speaker 5: I'm inspired.
- 7:16Speaker 6: That's a great idea, Jake.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I'll help. Me too.
- 7:20Speaker 5: And maybe in 40 years, someone else will find our clues.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Well, you never know. Faith exercises apparently don't expire.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Never.
- 7:29Speaker 5: Okay, now let's get to work. What should our theme be? Oh,
- 7:33Speaker 5: I love the 80s font. We should start there.
- 7:36Speaker 1: The scavenger hunt ended with a grand finale. A hymn
- 7:41Speaker 1: about God's leading has inspired Jake to share this faith
- 7:44Speaker 1: exercise with a new generation.
- 7:48Speaker 5: What do you think?
- 7:49Speaker 1: Would your youth group enjoy a faith-filled scavenger hunt?
- 7:53Speaker 5: Are you inspired too?
- 7:54Speaker 2: Well, if you are, let God lead.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Lead on.
