- 0:44SPEAKER_04: My guest today is a comedian and popcorn later who you may know from shows such as Crash Future, Blue Factory, and many viral tweets in my line with Hello, good to be here.
- 0:58SPEAKER_04: How are you doing today?
- 0:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm alright, you know.
- 1:01SPEAKER_04: Um I'm plowing on.
- 1:02SPEAKER_04: Plowing on.
- 1:03SPEAKER_04: You've just come back, you've just come back from Edinburgh, haven't you?
- 1:05SPEAKER_04: So like it's it's also weird to talk about you to talk to this about you because uh with you because I I literally work for you, so like it's it's a bit of a weird situation where I know you enough that like you see the unvarnished version of it.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: Which actually the viewers are getting right now.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: I should clarify, I don't normally wear a Huel t-shirt.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: I'm going to the gym.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: I haven't showered yet today because I'm going to the gym.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Um and I kind of forgot that this was a video podcast.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: So there you go.
- 1:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I should probably should have reminded you of that.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: You're confronted with that, and I'm I'm sorry.
- 1:37SPEAKER_04: Like, some it's only recently been a video one in the last like year.
- 1:41SPEAKER_04: So like people are still getting used to it.
- 1:43SPEAKER_04: Like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:45SPEAKER_04: And like it used to be a thing of like I would record over Zoom as well, and like no, like the video would never see the light of day.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Well, because the thing is, I I've been recording podcasts for years looking like absolute shit, and no one and no one knew about it.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: But now I'm suddenly like, oh fuck, I've got to like actually get dressed properly before I do this podcast.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Nightmare.
- 2:04SPEAKER_04: It is a thing I've talked about with like other trash future people as well.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: Of like now that now we're like considering like moving into the video sphere like sphere, like it's it's a thing of like, oh now we have to actually focus on what we're doing, what we're doing.
- 2:17SPEAKER_04: 100%.
- 2:18SPEAKER_04: It's a nightmare.
- 2:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:19SPEAKER_04: Suddenly you've got to be thinking about how you look.
- 2:22SPEAKER_04: Did you um like how long were you trash future uh well before Glue Factory, how long was it?
- 2:29SPEAKER_04: How long how long have we done Yeah, how long was Trash Future going before Glue Factory became a thing?
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: Um we started Trash Future in July 2017.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: So and we started Glue Factory, I want to say in 2024.
- 2:43SPEAKER_04: Oh, so it's been years then.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, a really long time.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: Um we might potentially have recorded some Glue Factory in 2023, but I don't think any of it was released until 2024.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: I can't really remember.
- 2:56SPEAKER_04: I mean, yeah, I I d I was more just like getting a general idea of like how many.
- 3:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Oh no, no, trash future has been going for years.
- 3:03SPEAKER_04: I know it's been going a long time, but yeah.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: Since like before everyone had a podcast.
- 3:07unknown: Yeah.
- 3:07SPEAKER_04: It's crazy, isn't it?
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Like it's Yeah.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Which might be part of the secret to its success.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: You just you start a podcast when not everyone has a podcast.
- 3:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:15SPEAKER_04: I mean, that was that was the other thing.
- 3:17SPEAKER_04: It's like I started so I started this in 2020.
- 3:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, 2020 actually.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Right, okay.
- 3:23SPEAKER_04: Uh so it's been going a long time and then like yeah, it took a break.
- 3:27SPEAKER_04: It did take it like and and now it's come back.
- 3:30SPEAKER_04: But like it took a break for about a year and a half.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: Right, okay, yeah.
- 3:33SPEAKER_04: But now it's m like now I'm like moving forward again.
- 3:36SPEAKER_04: Because like but it's weird moving forward with video and having not having done that before.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: It's um it's a lot more it's a lot more intense.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:45SPEAKER_04: But now also like the whole the whole thing of like everything has changed in this in the in the general like what people want at our podcasts as well, I feel like now people want video, whereas like before Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: I think I think they do.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: Um I think people do want video, but yeah, I don't know.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: Um I I don't know if the or the algorithm wants video.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Oh the algorithm definitely wants video.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: The extent to which people actually want video, I don't know.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: Do you do you want to is this doing it for you?
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: Is the Huel t-shirt doing it for you, viewer of this?
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Are you even viewing it or are you just listening to the audio?
- 4:18SPEAKER_04: Actually, yeah, do comment if like which which version are you are you taking this in?
- 4:22SPEAKER_04: Like you a video or audio?
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: I reckon 90% of people are still just audio.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: Do you think so?
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Because it's the point of a podcast is you listen to it while you're doing something else, surely.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Who has the time?
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Who has the time, man?
- 4:34SPEAKER_04: Actually, looking at the the listenership and the viewers, uh it is 90% audio still.
- 4:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, I think so.
- 4:42SPEAKER_04: But that could just be because of my subscribers, but yeah, um, yeah, so you yeah, you've just come back from Edinburgh.
- 4:48SPEAKER_04: You had was it we a week there you were doing a show, a week of shows or um yeah, I did well it ended up being slightly weird.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: So I did I was supposed to do five shows over five days from like the 31st to the fourth.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: But then I ended up adding an extra show on the fourth, and then I ended up adding two extra shows on the eighth and ninth.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: So I ended up doing sort of like like uh eight shows over the course of a bit more than a week, but there were lots of days where I didn't do shows.
- 5:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, it was fun.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, doing a work in progress at the fringe, I can't recommend it enough.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: It's just like you're not, there's no pressure.
- 5:25SPEAKER_04: That's that's exactly what it is.
- 5:26SPEAKER_04: It's like the fr taking the pressure off of like the doing a whole run and and being like perfect with it.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, like the shows were all sold out, um, everyone was having a great time.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: I didn't give a fuck, the audiences didn't give a fuck, everyone else was really stressed.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Um uh a comedian came out of my show and just said, you bastard to me.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: Um which is exactly the uh the reaction that you want.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was a lot of fun.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, of course.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, huge respect for everyone doing a full run, but um that'll be me again next year, probably.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: But this year I'm smug.
- 5:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, is this the oh this isn't this the first year that you haven't done a full run?
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I did four back-to-back solo hours, apart from the two COVID years.
- 6:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: Um which like, yeah, I mean, it was time.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: It was time to not do it.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, you have to take a break sometime.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: 100%.
- 6:14SPEAKER_04: I think there's I can I think I think maybe David O'Docerty is like the only one that I've seen that's done like a f has has never stopped doing a run.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think I think Pierre has done eleven back-to-back solo hours.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Which is mad.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: He's two years older than me.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: It's mad.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: He's just he just like he just like took a solo hour up in like fucking 2011 or something.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: He was just like, yep, whatever, I'll just do it.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: Or 2014, something like that.
- 6:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there's something funny about like people going for like their just going and doing an hour the first time and just like not knowing any different.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: It's uh yeah, it's interesting.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: I think well I think the comedy world is like it's very infantilizing.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: And I think it like encourages people to like, you know, oh, you're not ready to debut yet or whatever.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: Whereas like it's so like it's so like bizarrely narcissistic, because it's like, oh well, you know, obviously when I debut, you know, I'll be in the running for best newcomer.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: And it's like the idea that like something like best newcomer isn't a sham.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:10SPEAKER_05: It's like great.
- 7:10SPEAKER_05: Of course, yeah.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: And so then like it's like, well, you might as well just debut and just actually get good at stand-up.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: Um, which is kind of what I did basically.
- 7:18SPEAKER_04: I do I do notice the the other thing I notice about it is like people would people will take five years to debut or six years to debut, and then they will come back the next year with another show.
- 7:27SPEAKER_04: And it's just like you've spent so long on this debut hour, and then you've like immediately come back with another show.
- 7:32SPEAKER_04: It's like you know that it did the debut, like the the the newcomer stuff did not matter.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Well, and also like you have to do it.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Like, I think once you once you've got a bit of momentum, like you have to like I don't think I think I stopped at the right time, but I don't think I could have stopped before that.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: I think you've gotta like if you've got like shows and you're like building an audience, you've gotta keep and I think also like doing the work in progress this year was important because like the hardcore fans were like, oh, he's here.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: And they turned up.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I mean you have to cut the channel.
- 7:57SPEAKER_04: You have to have some kind of of like keeping going, but you can't, yeah.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: And the content business is the same, you know, it's just constant.
- 8:03SPEAKER_04: You just gotta be turnover.
- 8:05SPEAKER_04: You gotta keep posting.
- 8:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you gotta keep posting.
- 8:07SPEAKER_04: I've seen things on TikTok now where they're like, you've gotta post three times a day, and like how'd how would you ever do that?
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: You've gotta be like a Mormon or something.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: They're they're all mad.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: People who are like, you have to you have to be prepared to sacrifice your brain to the TikTok algorithm, and I I won't abuse.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: I can't.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: I can't.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: I just can't do it.
- 8:29SPEAKER_04: I think Instagram would like punish you if you tried to post three times a day.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: Probably, yeah.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: They do they do work slightly differently.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: But I think Instagram also wants you to post a lot.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: And I don't know, I just don't I just I didn't I didn't get into this business to be posting.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: No, no, you certainly not on Instagram or TikTok.
- 8:43SPEAKER_04: Like I used to like tweeting, but yeah, tweeting is fun to like well it used to be at least like I know, R I P.
- 8:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:50SPEAKER_04: But you're you're one of the only people that's actually like still like kind of prolific on it with it with that kind of stuff, and like it you're kind of still doing it to to numbers at least.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, somewhat.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: I mean I I think now like Twitter in the back in the day it used to be like, you know, I have quite a big Twitter account, so you know, you'd post something that's like a sort of you know, a mid straight down the line Milo Edwards tweet, and it would get like you know, five, six hundred likes.
- 9:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: Whereas now it's like everything gets either like 70 likes or 10,000 likes.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Like there's a like the middle range is like gone.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: Like there's no um and I yeah, I don't I don't know what Elon Musk has done with Twitter, it's bizarre.
- 9:28SPEAKER_04: Mine's gone to like one to two likes or like twenty thousand.
- 9:32SPEAKER_04: There's like no in between there.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah.
- 9:34SPEAKER_04: It's really that's a really weird one.
- 9:36SPEAKER_04: Where I'm like, I will get nothing or or a lot.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: And it's bizarre.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: And it's still like it's still alright for like promoting stuff, I guess, although I don't really know anymore.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know anymore.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: Let's hope so, because I've got a tour to sell.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:51SPEAKER_04: Speaking of, like, do you want to talk about the tour a little bit?
- 9:53SPEAKER_04: Do you want to like come see my tour?
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: I'm doing uh the show's called How Revolting, Sorry to Offend.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: Uh it's about the British class system.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: It's probably the most controversial show I've ever done.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: It's just so funny.
- 10:04SPEAKER_04: It's just like you talking about the how everyone upper class is is better.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: It's just like, yeah, I can just you definitely you do it in some rooms and you're just like the whole show is like middle class asshole tightening.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: But and it's because I'm talking about being being middle class, basically, but like the difference between like I don't know, I think I'm from like a pretty average middle class background and I read to people as posh.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: And so I'm kind of talking about that.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: And I think I talk a lot about like yeah, basically sort of Oxbridge and how going to Oxbridge doesn't make you posh.
- 10:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: Um but obviously there a lot of people don't want to hear that.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Um and uh but maybe you guys do.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: But there's a lot of jokes in the show, it's a very funny show.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: I think it's good, but yeah, sometimes it was so funny doing it in Australia where just like no one gave a fuck.
- 10:56SPEAKER_04: And you did it for a full month though as well, didn't you?
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: I was at the Melbourne Comedy Festival.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: So this is my Edinburgh show from last year.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's going on to September, October, November, and one Birmingham date in February, because that's when they gave me.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: So sorry, people of Birmingham, you'll have to wait until 2026.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: That's that's actually very funny considering.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: I think look, I think the people of Birmingham are used to getting things a little bit late.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Uh I, you know, let my show be no exception.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Um, Birmingham, the most slept-on city in the UK.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Um, what was it?
- 11:24SPEAKER_04: We were talking, you were talking about yesterday, actually, on Glue Factory.
- 11:28SPEAKER_04: You were talking about, oh, where were it's Manchester?
- 11:30SPEAKER_04: You were talking about like how you were like, oh no, then they don't get things late, they still get things on time.
- 11:36SPEAKER_04: Like they still understand things.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: It's like, yeah, that the well, I was talking about the the like that act of like when people do that thing about like, oh, I'm so northern, I don't know what a cross on it, or whatever.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: And it's like, I just don't believe it.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Because like they sell them in Morris.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: Like, I just don't like you know, it's not like you know, like, yeah, like the north is not some like third world country where like, can you still say third world country, developing country?
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, it's like you know, they just have all of the stuff up there that we have down here.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, it's sort of feels like everyone's like living in this Peter K bit in their own head.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: Um that just isn't real.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: But I do think that people ignore the existence of Birmingham a lot.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: They yeah, but I don't.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: I go there.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know what I'm saying.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: You go there late, but you go there.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: I do go there.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: Um, because it yeah, second city of the UK.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: No one ever goes there.
- 12:25SPEAKER_04: That's true.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: No one ever mentions it.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: People talk about Manchester.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Manchester, not even in the top five.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: Is it not?
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: No.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: I see, this is this is all stuff I don't know.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Sheffield I think Sheffield and Leeds are third and fourth.
- 12:38SPEAKER_04: Interesting.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: And again, cities that people don't talk about that much.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: No, I don't think I've ever talked about Sheffield.
- 12:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: Sorry to Sheffield, but I think it might be Glasgow after that.
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: I'm not 100% sure.
- 12:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but yeah, Manchester's like not not especially big.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Um there you go.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: This is me.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: I'm just I'm just here dropping UK human geography facts.
- 12:58SPEAKER_04: Um Well, okay, so let's let's actually move on then, because we we don't have like I know we don't have a huge amount of time, but like let's talk about what you actually came here to talk about, which is uh the movie Gone in 60 Seconds.
- 13:11SPEAKER_04: Gone in 60 seconds a documentary about my sex life.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:14SPEAKER_04: Um I got I gave you a like I sent you a list of like movies and you just like looked at it and you went, gone in 60 seconds.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: Immediately, yeah, it leapt out of me.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: Do you know what?
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: Because I'd had the idea before because I was like, I'm pretty sure that is a movie that people hate that I do weirdly love, and then it was on the list and I was like, perfect.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: This is destiny.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: I try not to argue, argue with the fates when they present me with an obvious choice.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 13:38SPEAKER_04: Well, so what is what is your like background and like history with this movie then?
- 13:42SPEAKER_04: Like what do you remember when you first saw it?
- 13:43SPEAKER_04: Do you remember like anything about Yeah?
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: I feel like my um yeah, we had Sky Movies when I was a kid, and I feel like it was on.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, it was on all the time, I remember.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: It was on constantly, and I was that kind of I think when did it come out?
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Like 2000?
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: Literally 2000.
- 14:00SPEAKER_04: So I would have 9th of July 2000, it's another June 2000.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I would have been seven.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Well, so it was like the perfect no.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's the perfect age for like, you know, it's the sort of movie where, and I think speed also fell into this category for me.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: Of like movie that like feels a bit too grown up for you, but your parents don't actually give a fuck because it's fundamentally harmless.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: So like there were quite a few movies like that where I'd be like, I'm getting away with watching this.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Um, and so yeah, it was definitely like that for me.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, I quite like, I mean, I quite like I feel like Nicolas Cage has had like a renaissance in recent years.
- 14:33SPEAKER_04: I feel like he's constantly having them for Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: Well, just in that, like, I think people have embraced the fact that Nicolas Cage is is a weird guy who acts in a weird way.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: Like I remember when I was at uni, there was like this usually viral video called that we were obsessed with called Nicolas Cage losing his shit.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: And it was just a it was like a supercut of just him just going mad in movie.
- 14:53SPEAKER_04: I vaguely remember a video like that, so maybe I've seen that as well.
- 14:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: Was it like a viral one that like Yeah, it was like it was like old, like kind of like almost like YouTube poop type stuff where he's just like it's just like a supercut of him like yelling like the boost now, like all that kind of stuff, yeah.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Um part of the intro of this of this show.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, is it?
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah, well, there you go.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, and I think it's a sort of it's a pretty serviceable action movie, yeah.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: And there's some sort of surprisingly decent performances in it.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: I quite like uh Delroy Lindo as well.
- 15:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, oh I think he's great in a hard-bitten detective.
- 15:26SPEAKER_04: I think he's always great in stuff, but like the weird thing is I say the weird thing, is that I guess it's not that weird when we say it's like serve like there's great performances in this to an extent.
- 15:35SPEAKER_04: There's three Oscar winners in this movie, yeah.
- 15:38SPEAKER_04: Prior like and they'd all won Oscars prior to this movie.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, the cast is kind of crazy.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Angela Jolie, isn't it?
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Vinnie Jones, Timothy Oliphant in the most forgettable role I think he's ever done.
- 15:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it took me a second to place him as well because he looks so young.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and fucking um, is it uh uh what what's his name?
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Um the guy, the old, the old guy, the mechanic, who's like his mentor.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, Robert Duval.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Robert Duval, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: From the fucking godfather.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: Fucking mad.
- 16:08SPEAKER_04: Um so yeah, it's it's a it's weird.
- 16:11SPEAKER_04: It's a Giovanni Rabisi is also in it.
- 16:13SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, as the little brother.
- 16:15SPEAKER_04: And then we uh and then we gotta ring up Christopher Eccleston as the villain.
- 16:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, of course.
- 16:20SPEAKER_04: Doing a Lancashire accent.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: I fucking love wood.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: I like making things out of wood.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: It's warm, it's clean.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: I made this coffin for you, you bastard.
- 16:30SPEAKER_03: It's so, it's so weird.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: Because American action movies love having British villains, but they're normally like posh and menacing and then.
- 16:37SPEAKER_04: Well he said, like, he chose to do the Lancashire accent because it's either a posh posh villain as when they're British, or they got a cockney accent, and he didn't want to do either.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:46SPEAKER_04: He was like, I'm gonna do my own accent.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: But also his name is Raymond Kelletri, which is like the least British name I can think of.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: That that guy is like, hey, whoa, fucking Aaron a breaker's yard.
- 16:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's also so weird to like have him, like I guess like what what was he doing prior to like he wasn't a big star prior to this, was he?
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: Like, I feel like he was No, I'm trying to think what he'd even been in.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: So like to to have that he was he was Doctor Who not that long after that.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, is that like five, six years after this?
- 17:19SPEAKER_04: But like he like prior I I remember him in like this in this like oh god, what is it even called?
- 17:27SPEAKER_04: I've gotta find uh he was in this like BBC film like where is he now?
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: It's like he's so far down the cast list as well that like I can't believe that he wasn't in the first three people that I named.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, an iconic.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I would have thought I was expecting you to ring him up first to be honest.
- 17:49SPEAKER_04: Like he let him have it.
- 17:53SPEAKER_04: Have you ever seen this?
- 17:54SPEAKER_04: No.
- 17:54SPEAKER_04: So it's like this so they showed it to us at school, basically, because it's it's all to do with like might not even be BBC actually.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, is it about Derek Bentley?
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Yes, right.
- 18:03SPEAKER_04: Derek Bentley, and it's all to do with like the language of English and and like what does let him have it actually mean?
- 18:08SPEAKER_04: It does it mean like a gunshot or does it mean like let him have the gun?
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh okay.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: So that they were doing they were taking an English language perspective on the time that we hung a mentally subnormal man.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: What's really important here is the linguistics of the case.
- 18:22SPEAKER_04: That's what they but they showed it to us in art in in like uh uh GCSE English, and they were like, you need to watch this to understand like what it actually means.
- 18:30SPEAKER_04: Incredible.
- 18:31SPEAKER_04: But that's like one of the first performances of his like literally like a year into his career.
- 18:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:37SPEAKER_04: But they showed so this is that that's like but that's nine years before uh he was in I guess yeah, he wasn't in he was in barely anything, he was in Shallow Grave, he was in Elizabeth, yeah.
- 18:51SPEAKER_04: And then gone in 60 seconds.
- 18:52SPEAKER_04: It was like he really didn't have like a big career before this, so it was like I can't believe they let him do the show acting.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: That's so funny.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: But he's like notorious.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: He's like at the time he's like nobody, yeah.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: It's like an American film made by Americans, and he's like, and he's like, right, get this.
- 19:06SPEAKER_04: It's also a remake as well.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, of course.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: There's like a 70s original.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: I think even 60, I think it's even 60s.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've not seen the original.
- 19:15SPEAKER_04: I've not seen the original either.
- 19:16SPEAKER_04: But also, oh, another another another British cast member, Vinny Jones.
- 19:21SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, I know.
- 19:21SPEAKER_04: In his third ever performance.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, crazy.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well we could yeah, because he's not long, I mean he was playing football in like '96 or something.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: So yeah, he's not long out of he's not long out of grabbing fucking Gaza's nuts.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:33SPEAKER_04: He went from he went from uh lock stock to snatch to this.
- 19:37SPEAKER_04: But then in this he speaks, he has like one one line of the city.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but because they don't let him speak, they're like this guy, no one's gonna understand a word he fucking says.
- 19:44SPEAKER_04: No one's gonna understand him, but give give uh Christopher Ogerstein, let him have his Lancashire accent as the villain.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so Vinny James's character is called Sphinx and he doesn't speak.
- 19:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: And then and then at the end it turns out he could just speak the whole time.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: I've seen this movie so many times.
- 20:00SPEAKER_04: How many times have you seen this movie?
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: Um I reckon it's gonna be at least ten.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: That's yeah, that's that's a lot.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: That's it's a lot of times.
- 20:09SPEAKER_04: That's a lot of times for like someone who hasn't who who I would say is also like not that attached to it.
- 20:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: I rewatched it not that long ago.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: I think it's like um it has like a nostalgia element of it to me.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: I was I had to explain it to someone the other day because we were talking about um uh like the the Ford Shelby Mustang.
- 20:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: And then I was like, like the original one, and then I was like, I was like, Eleanor.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: Eleanor, yeah, and then I had to explode this horror.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: How do you like the plot of the movie makes no sense?
- 20:42SPEAKER_04: The plot of the movie is it's insane.
- 20:44SPEAKER_04: Like, do you want to do you want to give an overview of the plot?
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Okay, so you start off Giovanni Rabisi, Kit Brains, is stealing Porsches.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: Okay, like the names.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the names, the names, the names are insane.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Giovanni Rabisi is stealing Porsches from a garage um uh with with like a sort of um with sassy black sidekick.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Um it's such a powerful archetype of movies of this era.
- 21:12SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, I was thinking of like I was watching it and like I can't believe how many of these movies like had this kind of archetype.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's that bit in not another teen movie where a guy says, I'm the token black guy, I'm here to say stuff like damn shit, and that is whack.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: And that that is very much this guy.
- 21:27SPEAKER_04: That's exactly this guy.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: Which is funny because there's actually quite a lot of like good black characters in the movie, but the for what for one reason this one character is like incredibly two-dimensional, like yeah, whatever, anyway.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: Um, and uh, and then so he basically they have some like they they can't get into the dealership, and so he just gets a brick out of the back of his car and like smashes the window.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then the guy's like, if that's your idea, we may as well call prison and make reservations.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: Why is that stuck in my head?
- 21:52SPEAKER_04: Which you quoted to me like before.
- 21:54SPEAKER_04: This is like a line that you remembered.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: Anyway, basically, they get followed by the And the cops like raid their their warehouse with all of their stolen cars in it, which they're stealing all the cars for Raymond Kaleetri.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Raymond fucking Khleetri.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: Listen, I love wood.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: It's warm.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: It's clean.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: But I hate you.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna fucking kill you.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: Um Manchester.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: Like, anyway, so and then basically uh it turns out that his older brother, Nicolas Cage, is like Do you want to give his name?
- 22:28SPEAKER_04: Because Kip Raigns isn't even the weirdest name of the two of them.
- 22:31SPEAKER_04: Ranald?
- 22:32SPEAKER_04: Randolph?
- 22:34SPEAKER_04: Memphis.
- 22:35SPEAKER_04: Memphis, fuck.
- 22:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:37SPEAKER_04: It might be Randolph.
- 22:38SPEAKER_04: It might be Randolph Memphis Reigns, but it's it's listed as Memphis Reigns.
- 22:41SPEAKER_04: Memphis Reigns, yeah.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: Memphis Reigns.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: So anyway, so then why why would you have a normal He's like he's like retired car thief extraordinaire?
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: He told his brother not to go into the car thieving business.
- 22:55SPEAKER_04: He's working at like a it looks like a go-kart ring or something.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: He's like running go-karting for kids.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: He's like, I promised our mom I wouldn't let you go and get the car steal.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: And uh, and so then he's like, Well, I'm gonna fucking kill your brother if you don't fucking steal 50 cars in one night.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: And so basically he's like, Okay, I have to steal 50 cars in one night.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: Or as they keep saying, boost 50 cars in one night.
- 23:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, because this is 2000 and you have to talk like that.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: You have to you have to use like a cool word, like a like a word that no one's ever said before for some reason.
- 23:30SPEAKER_04: It's also like filled with electronic music the whole time, and like such a a vibe of the time.
- 23:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, there's so but there's so many like um uh what is it that song that you use, Lowrider?
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, yeah, like that kind of like 70s one, and then um uh yeah, there's a lot of mad uh there's Moby is in it a lot.
- 23:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's what I mean by like electronic, like it's it's that Moby kind of vibe of it though.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, it feels very it's got a similar soundtrack to like the Bourne movies.
- 24:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Um despite having a very different tone.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: Um and so yeah, he's like, Oh, I have to assemble my elite crew of uh it's kind of like the blues brothers.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: He has to go around to all these people who just have ordinary jobs now and be like, Do you want to steal cars again?
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: And they're like, not really.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: And then he's like, ah, come on.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: And they're like, all right then.
- 24:17SPEAKER_04: Let's go for it, yeah.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:19SPEAKER_04: It's also like it's it feels like because this also came out a year before Fast and the Furious.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:27SPEAKER_04: And it feels like its predecessor in many ways, but it's so much better.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: I feel like the Fast and the Furious.
- 24:35SPEAKER_04: That's so bad.
- 24:36SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's interesting.
- 24:37SPEAKER_04: That that's that's unexpected.
- 24:39SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah, that's unexpected in many ways.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: The first two or maybe three are acceptable.
- 24:45SPEAKER_04: This is what I was about to say to you, because I feel like the first two or three are about cars.
- 24:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:50SPEAKER_04: And then it becomes no longer about cars, and that's when it becomes insane.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, I think even three is insane, but it's insane, right?
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: It's kind of insane in like an entertaining way.
- 25:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: Tokyo Drift.
- 25:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I've got a there's an upcoming uh there's a spoiler alert, but like we've got an upcoming episode about that come coming out in the next couple of months, so like be ready for that one.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: What I will say about Tokyo Drift is it has changed the way people speak forever.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: Because and also Too Fast, Too Furious has changed the way people speak forever.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: Because like, yeah, you can't have a second thing without people being like, you know, too whatever, too whatever.
- 25:24SPEAKER_04: It used to be do you remember, like, I don't know if you've even known you might not even be aware of this, but like there was a thing in the 80s that was so there was a film called Breaking, which is about breakdancing.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 25:33SPEAKER_04: And then there was a sec there's a sequel, really, really bad sequel, and it was called Breaking Two, Electric Boogaloo.
- 25:39SPEAKER_04: Oh, right, yeah, and everyone says that.
- 25:41SPEAKER_04: And then then it became that became the two.
- 25:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:44SPEAKER_04: But then then Too Fast, Too Furious took over.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because that's something it's so simple yet so absurd.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: And also Tokyo Drift.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: Saying anything three is Tokyo Drift will never stop being funny.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: And anytime you say what talk about drifting, it's gotta be Tokyo Drifting.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: King Charles III, Tokyo Drift, hilarious.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: It's perfect.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: That's great.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, and so yeah, then he assembles the team, they have to steal all these cars in one night.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: There are various cars they have difficulty with.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: There are these, like, there are these like local gangsters who are after him, who hate him for some reason, um, where they have to like run away from them while they're like firing at them with a shotgun.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: There's a bit where like so inconsequential to the film.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's a bit where him and Angelina Jolie like fuck in the front seat of like I think it's a Lamborghini.
- 26:26SPEAKER_04: They're about to fuck.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: Or a or a Pagani or something.
- 26:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, while But they like they all they use is like car language.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's very, it's very weird, it's very strange.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Um uh yeah, there's like uh and then but then the the animating thing is like there's this one car, the Ford Shelby Mustang GT, that he's tried to steal so many times and he always fucks it up.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: Uh and and then it's like the hardest one to track down because it's so old and rare, and then they track one down, and then obviously it's the last car that he steals.
- 26:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: Huge, huge chase ensues.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: He ends up like jumping it over like fucking 50 ambulances or whatever because there's a pile up on a bridge.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: That the car has Nos in it for some reason.
- 27:04SPEAKER_04: Again, predecessor to Fast and the Furious.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which is not a feature of this movie, Nos.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: No, no, it's not.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: And it's not that type of movie.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: And also, I'm like, now looking back on this, knowing a lot more about cars than I did when I was seven, I was like, surely you couldn't use NO in a car that old, you just blow the engine.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: It's like a car from the 60s, isn't it?
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Like, it's also funny because it's like, oh wow, this car, and it's like it's like the most epic chase, and it's like that has to be the slowest car they've stolen.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: The whole like Nauture 60 and eventually, like I've got to find the uh there's a there's a whole list of the cars somewhere like I I saw.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, I'm trying to think what other there's a Hummer they steal, which has the number plate snake, and then and then a Hummer H1.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:48SPEAKER_04: Which means again, these cars mean nothing.
- 27:50SPEAKER_04: So I'm not a car person in the slightest.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: The H1 is the really big one.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: Okay, it's the biggest one.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: And then it's like uh and there's a snake in it, and they also well that there's the the the the thinly drawn black character from earlier in the movie is like freaking out in the manner that you would expect from thinly drawn black character.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: Um and uh and then Vinny Jones just like throws it out of the window.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:12SPEAKER_04: Um no, with no saying nothing.
- 28:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 28:14SPEAKER_04: Because he's the hard man.
- 28:15SPEAKER_04: It's it's also funny when Vinny Jones is introduced because he's like basically Nicolas Cage is getting beaten up by like five, six guys.
- 28:22SPEAKER_04: Vinny Jones walks up, blows up three cars, and just beats them all up one at a time, and it's just like it's like of all the people, it has of course it's Vinny Jones, and like of course he's like, This is what he wants, this is all he ever wants to do in a movie.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:39SPEAKER_04: He's very like I've never seen him do anything else.
- 28:42SPEAKER_04: Well, I think also like he can't do anything else.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: I think he's been he's so like that's what Vinny Jones is there for.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: But that's why then he likes so far cast as well.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: But that's also like what he was like on the football pitch.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: So he's just like transferred that straight into uh yeah, he should have grabbed one of them by the nuts.
- 28:56SPEAKER_04: Um it would have been nothing to anyone outside of England.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: You've got like Delroy Lindo absolutely chewing the scenery as as the detective.
- 29:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he's so good in everything, uh Delroy Lindo.
- 29:07SPEAKER_04: I I just I think he's such a great actor, and I think like it's he'll appear in like these in these kind of movies and just like take over the whole the take over the whole film.
- 29:16SPEAKER_04: Like he's he's that kind of person.
- 29:18SPEAKER_04: He just like you said he's chewing the scenery, but like he's so good.
- 29:21SPEAKER_04: What else has he been in?
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: He's in other than the the incredible Fox News debate clip.
- 29:28SPEAKER_04: I forgot about that, which people believe is a real thing.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: What?
- 29:32SPEAKER_04: That's not a real that's a that's from a film.
- 29:34SPEAKER_04: Oh, is it from the film?
- 29:35SPEAKER_04: Or a TV show, yeah.
- 29:37SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 29:37SPEAKER_04: Oh, there you are.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: It's not a real thing.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: It's from yeah.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: If you haven't seen the clip, it's like Dora or Linda.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: What I've now just learned is it is a mock-up boxing debate, and then he's like, they're arguing about whether they should be able to say the N-word, and he just goes say it then.
- 29:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: Just say it.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: Um, what is that from?
- 29:55SPEAKER_04: It's from The Good Fight.
- 29:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's from The Good Fight.
- 29:59SPEAKER_04: Um which is a TV show from 2017.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: Based on the name, it sounds bad.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna lie.
- 30:09SPEAKER_04: I mean it's cool.
- 30:09SPEAKER_04: It's about Christine Varansky.
- 30:15SPEAKER_04: It looks like it's a spin-off of something.
- 30:20SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's a spin-off of the good wife, which makes sense.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: No, right, okay.
- 30:23SPEAKER_04: Which I've also not seen.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's really funny because you've got like yeah, like Timoth Timothy Oliphant as his little sidekick who's like playing by the rules.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: It's a bit like it reminds me a little bit of Heat.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: It's like they're trying to do Heat because it's like the sort of like the the kind of like the fundamental respect between Delroy Lindo and Nicolas Cage, and the sort of like he's like, Yeah, we've both been sucked into this.
- 30:44SPEAKER_04: Um that whole thing of like, I guess even well, it's jumping massively ahead, but like the whole thing at the end of like you did me a favour, so I'll do you a favour and you get just get out of here.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, because there's a bit at the end where it basically like Nicolas Cage, uh Raym Raymond Collitri is gonna fucking kill his brother.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: He's fucking crushing him in a car crusher.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: And then anyway, like Nicolas Cage, yeah, like goes and like they have this big fight, and he like he smashes up a bunch of his wood and stuff, and he's like, Oh no, not me, wood! Um and then in the course of this, he like saves Delroy Lindo's life.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: And then and then there's this bit where eventually he like kills him by like kicking him off like a high gather.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: Because is there in like a fucking like a chemical plant, or that's like his headquarters?
- 31:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it makes no sense.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: It's a very 90s movie, like there are pipes with steam coming out of them.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: It's unclear.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Um and there's and he does this.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: This is this is the Nicholas Cage line that I always quote from any movie, which is where he goes, You made a big mistake trying to kill my brother, and you made an even bigger mistake trying to kill me.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: Um and then he just like kicks him over a balcony and he and he and he falls to his death landing in the coffin that he has built.
- 31:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the one coffin that's like there.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Chekhov's coffin.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: Um and uh and I'm like, yeah, awesome, great.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: And then Lindo's like, a brother's love is a brother's love.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: What a line.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: What what a line that a police detective would absolutely say.
- 32:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, of course, of course he would say that.
- 32:14SPEAKER_04: Like he he is oh god, I I feel bad for him in this movie because like he he's given he's not given much to work with as well.
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: He's not given a huge amount to work with.
- 32:26SPEAKER_04: But then, yeah, again, like Nicolas Cage though, is the is the master of like not being given much to work with, but like taking that and turning it into something else, turning it into something insane.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: The master of chewing the scenery.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: The bit also the scene.
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: There are a number of scenes that really stick in my head.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: The one where um the one where him and Robert Duvall are listening to old audio tapes of Formula One and saying what the car is and what the engine is.
- 32:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: Ah, such a type of guy.
- 32:54SPEAKER_04: That feels like something that you could do.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: No, I'm not that much of a car nerd.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: There are there are people who can, but that's not me.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: That's like the car equivalent of having like perfect pitch.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: They're like the true car autists, you know.
- 33:06SPEAKER_04: There was a there was a glue factory episode, you were talking about cars, and like nobody else understood what you were talking about, and it was just so funny because it was but you were like, I'm also not I'm not the level where you're like, you're like, I'm I'm a type of I'm a level of car guy, but I'm not a level where I couldn't.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, I think that's the funny thing, where it's like I I know enough about cars to like alienate most people, yeah, but nowhere near enough to be accepted by car guys.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: Like, no, not even close, like I like I would be regarded as such a filthy casual by anyone who really knows a lot about cars.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: Um, and I can't I can't go to that level.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: I'm not prepared.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: I'm not prepared to do the the mental death that it would require.
- 33:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, I mean there are some like I mean you can kind of like listen to some engines and you can be like like some of them sound a lot bigger than like and like something like some engines sound very distinctive, like like a Porsche engine, like a flat six sounds very different from like a V8 or something.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: But like the way people are like, oh yeah, the Ferrari 355, like, no, yeah, yeah, I can't.
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: That's mad.
- 34:05SPEAKER_04: Even you naming the cars, I'm like, okay, I know I know what a Porsche is, I know what a Ferrari is.
- 34:09SPEAKER_04: I do not know what the numbers mean.
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I can name I can name cars that I'm interested in.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: I can't name every car.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: Well, and you know what weirdly is I have an incredibly encyclopedic knowledge of like mundane shit cars.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: I was like, ah, the Scoda Fabio, of course.
- 34:23SPEAKER_04: I used to have this weird thing where I could name like people could tell me a a move.
- 34:27SPEAKER_04: I'm not so good at it anymore, but like I used to have like an encyclopedic knowledge for some reason of like of like you could tell me a movie and I could tell the year it came out.
- 34:36SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 34:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: Well, that's similar.
- 34:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 34:39SPEAKER_04: It was a really weird thing, and it had like no use for anything.
- 34:43SPEAKER_04: It was just like it never got never got any, like, no no.
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: I mean, great on a pub quiz.
- 34:48SPEAKER_04: Not even great on a pub quiz, because like it it that would not really come up.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, sometimes it could be like, oh, what was the biggest gracing movie of that year or something?
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, more more often in reverse, but like I'm often surprised when people don't know stuff like that.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: Like there was something on a quiz I was doing the other week where it was like, uh, what year did Titanic come out?
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: Or what was the biggest movie of 1997?
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: I was like, yeah.
- 35:08SPEAKER_04: And then it's like the second biggest movie of all time.
- 35:10SPEAKER_04: How do you not know that?
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was just obvious to me.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: I was like '97, famously.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: Titanic, cold feet, you know, it's a big year.
- 35:17SPEAKER_04: It's a huge year.
- 35:18SPEAKER_04: Throwing in cold feet is is yeah, that's that's next level.
- 35:21SPEAKER_04: That's deep.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: That's deep.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: I've got my James Nesbitt lore on lot.
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: Um uh yeah, that's another one of the things about mine.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: The other one, here's a here's another name that stuck in my fucking mind.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: Donnie Astricky.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: Who?
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: He's the um Is he in the film?
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: He's the guy who's like the driving instructor.
- 35:41SPEAKER_04: Oh, Charlie McBride.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 35:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, another another like great kind of I would I wouldn't say character actor because he's kind of the same person in everything, but yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: Really, really fun performance from him.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: Um there's uh there's that scene where one of them goes in.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: I don't remember any of these names.
- 35:58SPEAKER_03: And I saw it, I watched it last night.
- 36:00SPEAKER_03: How do how do I remember them?
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: There's this amazing, like, there's a there's this divide between like you've got like the the young, the young crew of like of like Kip Reigns, and then like Memphis Reigns, like old hands, and the young crew keep like making like stupid mistakes, but then also they understand technology.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and there's that thing where like the guy is like showing him how to put on fake fingerprints, yeah.
- 36:20SPEAKER_01: And then the guy's like, why don't you just use gloves?
- 36:22SPEAKER_01: And then there's like an awkward silence, and then it's like, no, but actually, why don't you just use gloves?
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: Surely that would be better, and you'd leave less other DNA evidence um rather than fake fingerprints.
- 36:34SPEAKER_04: This, like, this the young black guy that you're talking about, I can't remember his name in it.
- 36:37SPEAKER_04: Um I wonder if he's been in anything else.
- 36:40SPEAKER_04: I mean, presumably.
- 36:44SPEAKER_04: He's not he's not one of the main cast members on here, but like basically there's a scene where where he's like doing all the technology stuff and everything.
- 36:52SPEAKER_04: He's like, I'm the guy, I know all I know all this stuff.
- 36:54SPEAKER_04: But he called and then he calls it pin number.
- 36:56SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, pin number.
- 36:58SPEAKER_04: Pin number, because pin, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:01SPEAKER_04: It's one of those things.
- 37:01SPEAKER_01: It's like, you're the technology guy, you should know.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: True, true.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: Very, very like this, this thing.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: Um, although I mean, yeah, I don't know.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's uh um there's like that really uh there's that really weird scene where like one of the young crew goes off and just steals a random car.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: And then they're like, Why why have you done that?
- 37:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's pointless.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Oh, well the keys are in it.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Okay, so there's a car in a ship park town with the keys in it.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: Like, did you ever think about it?
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: And then it's like full of cocaine.
- 37:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: Um and so then they're like, fuck.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: And then this is when Delroy Lindo turns up for a look in the yeah, turns up for a look in the garage, and it's a it's an old Cadillac El Dorado.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: So Roll Juvall makes up something about how he's restoring it, and then they're like, there's like cocaine has like dropped on the floor, so they're they're trying to use the exhaust to like blow it away so they don't notice.
- 37:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, it's a very it's a very contrived scene.
- 37:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, I mean a lot of this movie is very contrived.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:54SPEAKER_04: Like it's one of those things, it's like like so something I haven't brought up yet.
- 37:59SPEAKER_04: Is like, do you do you know the rating for this on Rotten Tomatoes?
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: No idea.
- 38:03SPEAKER_04: What what would you estimate it is?
- 38:07SPEAKER_04: 50.
- 38:08SPEAKER_04: 50, okay.
- 38:09SPEAKER_04: Not even close.
- 38:10SPEAKER_04: Not even close.
- 38:11SPEAKER_04: 26%.
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: 26%.
- 38:13SPEAKER_04: This this was not like Wow.
- 38:16SPEAKER_04: This was not.
- 38:17SPEAKER_04: I was surprised.
- 38:17SPEAKER_04: So when you when you also picked it, I looked it up because I was like, oh, it's probably gonna be around like what 40 or something like that.
- 38:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:24SPEAKER_04: 26% is is way lower than I was expecting.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: So how does the Rotten Tomatoes rating actually work?
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: Because I just like because there's like you've got like critical stuff and then you've got like just people, right?
- 38:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so so it's just 26% for the the critics.
- 38:36SPEAKER_04: Okay, yeah.
- 38:37SPEAKER_04: The public, 77%.
- 38:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah!
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say because Rotten Tomatoes has gotta be mostly dudes.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: And dudes love this movie.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: Women aren't wasting their time on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 38:49SPEAKER_04: What you will find is what you will find is that like most of the dude most of the dude movies are like this, where it's it's like 26-77, something like that.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: Whereas like Well and that's why the odd critically acclaimed dude movie becomes the best movie of all time, like the Shawshank Redemption.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: Why is that always the number one movie?
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: That's number one more movie on IMDb.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, is it right, yeah.
- 39:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, which is really weird, and like like it's a good movie, but like to it's just become that because it's become one of those movies where it's like I've watched it what you watched it once, and it was fine.
- 39:22SPEAKER_01: I have no need to really watch it again.
- 39:23SPEAKER_04: It's not the best movie of all time.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: No, no, the only guilty man in Shao Shang.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: Well, you know who loves it, Vernon K.
- 39:32SPEAKER_04: Of course he does.
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: Vernon Kay will brook when someone has not oh man, there was a time when I'm talking about this in my new show, but there was a time when, like, so Jeremy Vine comes on the end of Vernon Kay's radio show.
- 39:44SPEAKER_04: Another one of your fan favorites.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:47SPEAKER_01: To talk about what's gonna be on the Jeremy Vine show, and like Vernon Kay is like desperate to be Jeremy Vine's friend, and I swear, like, Jeremy Vine barely knows who the fuck Vernon Kay is.
- 39:55SPEAKER_01: It's absolutely incredible.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: And then one morning Vernon Kay's talking about the Shawshank Redemption.
- 39:59SPEAKER_03: Jeremy Vine comes on and he's like, You know, Vernon, people are always talking about the Shawshank Redemption.
- 40:03SPEAKER_03: I've actually never seen it.
- 40:04SPEAKER_03: And he's like, Jeremy, what do you mean?
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: You've never seen the Shawshank, it's one of the greatest movies of all time.
- 40:09SPEAKER_03: You gotta come round, Jeremy.
- 40:11SPEAKER_03: Me and you, we'll get a couple of beers, we'll watch the Shawshank Redemption, and then there's this pause, and then he just goes, Who else is coming?
- 40:18SPEAKER_01: And it's like absolutely brutal.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's so funny.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: But yeah, Vernon K just wants him to have watched the Shawshank Redemption.
- 40:25SPEAKER_04: Of course he does.
- 40:26SPEAKER_04: What this actually makes me think, like I I've got to ring this up because I I saw this name on here just like as we were talking.
- 40:33SPEAKER_04: It but it reminds me of so one of the guys in this is called uh his his real name is Michael Owen.
- 40:40SPEAKER_04: And of course, there's the whole thing do you know the thing?
- 40:43SPEAKER_04: Do you know the lore of Michael Owen in film?
- 40:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that he hates films, and he's only seen like ten films, and five of them are the Rocky movies.
- 40:52SPEAKER_04: Which is one of the funniest things of all time to me.
- 40:55SPEAKER_01: He has a perfect brain.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: I think he might be the happiest person who has ever lived.
- 41:00SPEAKER_04: I think he's the most miserable person that's ever lived.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: Do you think I think he's just I I think he's so content.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: Because like you would be miserable if you lived his life, but like he nothing but I I swear, like I I picture Michael Owen like goes to sleep, like sitting up with his eyes open.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like he's so like he's so robotic.
- 41:18SPEAKER_01: That fucking that ad he did for Jabai.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: Beautiful.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's so funny.
- 41:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think he just doesn't give a fuck.
- 41:25SPEAKER_04: He's like perfectly he's the weirdest person I've ever seen in my life.
- 41:28SPEAKER_04: Like he I I I can't he the fact that he's seen what 10 feel like I've got to bring yeah, I've got to find them.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: That that video where like they they put like a 13-year-old boy in goal and he was supposed to like shoot penalties at him and Michael, Michael Owen just scores every penalty.
- 41:44SPEAKER_01: He's just like pinging him straight in the top corner.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: Is the Boris Johnson taking out the rugby the kid rugby player?
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: That's the most I've ever respected, Boris Johnson.
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, take out that Japanese kid.
- 41:55SPEAKER_04: Uh okay, so like the the film.
- 41:57SPEAKER_04: So this is the tweet from Michael Owen, and it says, Films I've been forced to watch.
- 42:02SPEAKER_04: It's not even films I've watched.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:05SPEAKER_04: Rocky.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: Heat, right, yeah.
- 42:09SPEAKER_04: He's a long movie if you don't like movies.
- 42:11SPEAKER_04: All of these movies are long.
- 42:12SPEAKER_04: All of these movies are long.
- 42:14SPEAKER_04: Rocky, he, Ghost.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: Okay, there was a lady involved in that one, I imagine.
- 42:21SPEAKER_01: Jurassic Park.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: Cool runnings.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: He's really covering the bases here.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: It's all it's all 80s and 90s.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: He's a cultured man.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: Sea Biscuit.
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: Seabiscuit.
- 42:33SPEAKER_04: Seabiscuit's such an outlier.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I watched that on a plane once, I think.
- 42:37SPEAKER_04: I've never seen Seabiscuit.
- 42:38SPEAKER_04: I have no interest in watching Seabiscuit, but like okay.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: It's quite boring.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:41SPEAKER_04: Karate Kid, of course.
- 42:42SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 42:43SPEAKER_04: And then Forrest Gump.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, fascinating.
- 42:46SPEAKER_04: He he's quite gump-like.
- 42:48SPEAKER_04: He's very gump-like, yeah.
- 42:49SPEAKER_01: He's very gump-like.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's sort of fitting that that was the last one.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: He watched Forrest Gump and he was like, yeah, that's just a documentary about me.
- 42:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 42:57SPEAKER_04: Now I'm off to Duby.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: Um Yeah, no, I I think they should do like an Osborne style documentary about Michael Owen.
- 43:05SPEAKER_04: Oh, that'd be so good.
- 43:06SPEAKER_04: I would watch a documentary on my like, yeah, just like just following him around his life.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, what's a day in the life of Michael Owen like?
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: I genuinely can't imagine it.
- 43:14SPEAKER_04: I I imagine it's so boring.
- 43:16unknown: Yeah.
- 43:16SPEAKER_04: He gets up, he eats his wheat a bit expensive.
- 43:18SPEAKER_04: I think people would be mad for it.
- 43:20SPEAKER_04: Day in the life of Michael Owen.
- 43:21SPEAKER_04: Maybe we should make that.
- 43:23SPEAKER_04: I feel like I would oh my god.
- 43:25SPEAKER_04: I think you absolutely need to get him on Glue Factory.
- 43:27SPEAKER_04: He'd like be the perfect guest.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 43:29SPEAKER_04: Or not like Britannology.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: God, yeah.
- 43:33SPEAKER_01: Just get him talking about Yeah, whatever it is, whatever it is that interests him.
- 43:38SPEAKER_04: What does interest him?
- 43:39SPEAKER_04: That's what blows my mind.
- 43:40SPEAKER_04: It's like what what what is he like?
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: Maybe he well, I know from this list that he's not seen the movie Gone in 60 seconds.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: So maybe this would be the one that turns him.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: Wait, so who does Michael Owen play in the film?
- 43:50SPEAKER_01: As in the the other Michael Owen.
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: I mean he just Kid in Rice Burner.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: Kid in Rice Burner.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: But he's listed like right under Minnie Jones.
- 43:59SPEAKER_04: That's what maybe.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Oh right, yeah, amazing.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: Who plays the there's the guy who's like he's Nicolas Cage's former right hand man and now he's working for Raymond Khitri.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: Do you happen to remember his the guy with like the long hair?
- 44:14SPEAKER_01: Is it Scott Kahn?
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: He's the guy with like the long hair who he he goes to like find him at the start.
- 44:24SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 44:26SPEAKER_01: That's like um he's one of the like the young crew.
- 44:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:30SPEAKER_01: No, it's the guy that the older guy who goes to find him at the go-kart place at the start.
- 44:35SPEAKER_04: Oh, it could be the William Lee Scott.
- 44:37SPEAKER_04: No, he looks too young.
- 44:39SPEAKER_04: I have no idea.
- 44:42SPEAKER_02: Hang on, I can get it, I can find it.
- 44:44SPEAKER_04: Will Patton?
- 44:45SPEAKER_04: Is it this guy?
- 44:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Will Patton.
- 44:51SPEAKER_04: So his name in it is uh Atley Jackson.
- 44:56SPEAKER_04: Atlee Jackson.
- 44:57SPEAKER_04: Incredible! Incredible.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the names of it are wild.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: I'd kind of forgotten about that.
- 45:02SPEAKER_04: There's only one name that carries over, I believe.
- 45:04SPEAKER_04: Like from the original.
- 45:06SPEAKER_04: Oh, where did I read it?
- 45:07SPEAKER_04: It was in the trivia somewhere.
- 45:08SPEAKER_04: It was like there's one name that carries over.
- 45:10SPEAKER_04: And it might have been Angelina Jolies.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: You've gotta you've gotta presume it's Memphis Reigns.
- 45:16SPEAKER_04: You would think so, wouldn't you?
- 45:18unknown: Hang on.
- 45:18SPEAKER_04: Oh wow, that's actually Matt.
- 45:20SPEAKER_04: The final chasing was largely improvised.
- 45:24SPEAKER_04: Improvise?
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: Improvised?
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: How do you improvise so even just from a safety point of view, like how the fuck would you improvise that?
- 45:32SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:33SPEAKER_01: His okay, right, fucking vindicated.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: Nicolas Cage's name is Randall Memphis Rain.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: Although it is it is a shame that I forgot.
- 45:41SPEAKER_01: Um is called Sarah Wayland.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: Sway.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, known as Sway, yeah, that's right.
- 45:48SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, The Sphinx, Atley Jackson.
- 45:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Scott Carter's called Tumblr.
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: Tumblr.
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: Ah, okay.
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: So this is this is the guy who plays the very thinly drawn young black guy, TJ Cross.
- 45:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, and his character is called Mirror Man.
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, he doesn't even get a name.
- 46:02SPEAKER_01: How did they get away with this?
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: No, as in that that's his name.
- 46:05SPEAKER_01: That's like his like car thief stage.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um wait, who's it uh Deroy Lindo plays Roland?
- 46:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that that's such a like police detective Roland.
- 46:18SPEAKER_04: Detective Roland is such a 90s police name.
- 46:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Donny Donny Astricky.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, there's a guy who's called Freb.
- 46:25SPEAKER_01: Remember that?
- 46:26SPEAKER_04: No.
- 46:27SPEAKER_01: There's a guy called there's a guy called Toby, who's like really young, who like who like comes in his pants at one point.
- 46:33SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then gets shot.
- 46:36SPEAKER_01: Michael Payne, who is like the Mexican guy in every movie, plays a guy called Ignacio.
- 46:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:40SPEAKER_01: I love because that's when that's when the dog eats the car keys and they have to go through all the dog shit.
- 46:46SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's awful.
- 46:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:47SPEAKER_04: He's like getting some disgusting.
- 46:52SPEAKER_01: Um Yeah, I think we're now we're now in the territory of people who don't have named exotic car salesman.
- 47:00SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, actually that that is a great Nicolas Cage moment in the movie, and I think it's one of the bits that I find most relatable.
- 47:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:06SPEAKER_01: Is when he goes, he goes into a Ferrari dealership.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: And he's talking to this incredibly smug salesman.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: And then it but he's like pretending to be like a Wall Street guy or whatever, and he's like, and he's like, I'm looking, I'm looking for something.
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: And he's like, well, what about what about this?
- 47:21SPEAKER_02: And he's like, I saw four of those parked outside Starbucks this morning.
- 47:25SPEAKER_02: I don't want to look like some kind of self-indulgent indulgent asshole.
- 47:28SPEAKER_02: I want to look like a connoisseur.
- 47:29SPEAKER_02: He's like, he's like, the weenies would take these cars.
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: And then and then he's like, he's like, what kind of vintage Ferraris do you have?
- 47:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: I don't think a Ferrari dealership would have vintage Ferraris.
- 47:40SPEAKER_04: No, he's also like, I got them in the I got them in the garage or something.
- 47:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:44SPEAKER_04: They've got this lock up.
- 47:45SPEAKER_01: And then they steal like 15 Ferraris from this one garage.
- 47:48SPEAKER_04: It's kind of crazy.
- 47:49SPEAKER_04: Like looking at, yeah, I wanna.
- 47:51SPEAKER_04: There's so one, two, three.
- 47:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he's still five Ferraris altogether.
- 47:58SPEAKER_04: Five.
- 47:59SPEAKER_04: The most they still the most of like one car they still is and they do steal nice Ferraris.
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: I I have a feeling they they steal a they steal a Tesserossa with the pop-up headlights.
- 48:08SPEAKER_01: That's a good they do.
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a good one.
- 48:10SPEAKER_04: An 87 Tesserossa.
- 48:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, very nice.
- 48:12SPEAKER_01: Do they steal a 355 as well?
- 48:14SPEAKER_01: They do?
- 48:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: That's another good one.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: It's another good one.
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: But again, I can name the good Ferraris.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: And I can also I can name the really bad Ferraris.
- 48:22SPEAKER_01: I remember Ferrari California.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: Awful.
- 48:25SPEAKER_01: That's not in this.
- 48:26SPEAKER_01: No, no, it's too, it came out after, I think.
- 48:28SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 48:28SPEAKER_04: I do remember like as a kid being like a Ferrari Testa Rossa, that's the that's the car you want to get.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:35SPEAKER_01: They're cool.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: Um do they oh that's a big that's a big engine in there.
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: Uh do they uh do they steal a 250 GTO?
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: Those are nice.
- 48:44SPEAKER_04: Um is that a Ferrari?
- 48:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:47SPEAKER_04: They still have 275 GTB.
- 48:49SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay, yeah.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: I think it's a bit more modern.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know, but this is what I mean.
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: My my knowledge is not encyclopedia.
- 48:55SPEAKER_01: Um uh yeah.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: Should we do the car list?
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, if you want it, there's a great cars.
- 49:01SPEAKER_01: It's a great way to round out.
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: Well, we could we can we can rush through.
- 49:04SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 49:05SPEAKER_04: Okay then.
- 49:07SPEAKER_04: Two Aston Martins, DB7 and DB1.
- 49:10SPEAKER_04: I don't I don't remember the Astons at all.
- 49:12SPEAKER_04: There's a 60 1962 Aston Martin and a 199 Aston Martin.
- 49:16SPEAKER_04: So there's an old and a new.
- 49:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, right, fine, fine.
- 49:18SPEAKER_04: Uh they still three Bentleys, Arn Arnage, Azure, and Continental.
- 49:24SPEAKER_01: I think I remember the Arnage, because I think that's Donnie Astricky steals that one when he does the um he pretends to be a valet Parker.
- 49:31SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which is which is stunning from him, because then you just get the keys.
- 49:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, great.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: Away you go.
- 49:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 49:37SPEAKER_04: They still like El Dorado, El Dorado Broham.
- 49:43SPEAKER_04: Bro Broham?
- 49:44SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 49:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I don't know.
- 49:45SPEAKER_01: American cars.
- 49:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:46SPEAKER_01: Who knows?
- 49:46SPEAKER_04: That's yeah, Broham is a very American name.
- 49:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: Getting my Broham.
- 49:52SPEAKER_04: Um another El Dorado STS and an Escalade.
- 49:56SPEAKER_04: Uh Wow, an Escalade.
- 49:58SPEAKER_04: That's a that's a car I actually know.
- 50:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, there you go.
- 50:01SPEAKER_01: Well, because it's it's so like in the culture, despite being Yeah, an Escade is like hip hop culture.
- 50:06SPEAKER_04: That's why I know that.
- 50:07SPEAKER_04: And it was like everyone had an escalade with the rip with the spinning rims.
- 50:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:11SPEAKER_04: That's the so of the time.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: Well, and I think also that they were that was such a like feature of like that kind of like gangster rap aesthetic when we were teenagers.
- 50:19SPEAKER_01: That then it's become like it's sort of like that weird of like the the the types of the types of like what you might like in Scarecrow it's called like black culture that permeates like teenage white boys, and the Cadillac Escalade is one of them.
- 50:31SPEAKER_04: There's a Cadillac Escalade and then a Hummer.
- 50:33SPEAKER_04: Those were the two I remember.
- 50:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:35SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 50:36SPEAKER_04: And I think the Hammer took over from the Escalade.
- 50:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, probably.
- 50:39SPEAKER_01: Although they don't make the Hummer anymore, so you know the Escalade wins in the end.
- 50:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 50:44SPEAKER_04: Um so what else have they got?
- 50:46SPEAKER_04: The Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible.
- 50:49SPEAKER_04: Wow, that's like a 50 as well.
- 50:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that actually looks decent.
- 50:54SPEAKER_04: Camaro and two Corvettes.
- 50:57unknown: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 50:57SPEAKER_04: Muscle cars, classic.
- 50:59SPEAKER_04: Um Ford pickup.
- 51:02SPEAKER_05: Random.
- 51:04SPEAKER_04: It's like a modified one.
- 51:05SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 51:06SPEAKER_04: Something I've never heard of before.
- 51:10SPEAKER_01: Don't know what that is.
- 51:12SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 51:13SPEAKER_01: I think that's like a 70s muscle car.
- 51:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:17SPEAKER_04: Uh Plymouth Superbird.
- 51:19SPEAKER_01: I think that's another muscle car.
- 51:21SPEAKER_04: Dodge Viper?
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah, yeah, the car that kills people.
- 51:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: Um they're like impossible to drive, but they're so overpowered.
- 51:29SPEAKER_01: Jesus Christ, yeah, that looks that's one I recognise, at least.
- 51:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, people crash them all the time.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:36SPEAKER_04: Ferrari F F355, two of those, 275.
- 51:42SPEAKER_04: One of my favourites.
- 51:43SPEAKER_04: 550 and a Testa Rossa.
- 51:46SPEAKER_04: Four Thunderbirds.
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: Thunderbirds are not ancient.
- 51:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like 50s.
- 51:51SPEAKER_04: GMC Yukon, which is a random one.
- 51:54SPEAKER_04: That's a Chevrolet.
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's quite a like a run-of-the-mill um yeah.
- 51:59SPEAKER_04: A hammer H1?
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:01SPEAKER_01: I think the Yukon is when the guy gets shot.
- 52:03SPEAKER_04: I don't even remember.
- 52:03SPEAKER_04: By like the Ranticots.
- 52:05SPEAKER_04: I've got no context for like when they steal each car, even though I've just watched it, I have no memory of the colour.
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: They're out of a garage at like a suburban house party, and then the guy, the guy is like, he's like distracted like looking at the girls in bikinis like through the garage door, and then one of them notices him seeing the car, and then like the private security on like the gator community like shoot him.
- 52:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 52:24SPEAKER_01: Um embarrassing to be shot by the private security.
- 52:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the worst of all security.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 52:31SPEAKER_01: But they get being shot dead by the Sainsbury security guards.
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:37SPEAKER_04: Oh, the Sainsbury security guards that in the one the ones by us are so funny.
- 52:41SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 52:42SPEAKER_01: I've been absolutely aerated by the guy at Tesco.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:46SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, no, there's a we saw a video on the stream once years ago where like there was like someone uh fronting up a Sainsbury security guard and he was like, there's like a little old South Asian man.
- 52:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:57SPEAKER_01: And then we were like, wait, pause, zoom in.
- 52:59SPEAKER_01: What's that tie he's got on?
- 53:01SPEAKER_01: And then we're like, that's a Gurkha regimental tie.
- 53:04SPEAKER_01: We're like, this guy is about to be dead.
- 53:09SPEAKER_01: Once the nectar card is drawn, it has to taste blood.
- 53:13SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's so funny.
- 53:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 53:15SPEAKER_01: And we're like, how has this geezer not noticed this?
- 53:18SPEAKER_01: Fuck.
- 53:18SPEAKER_04: Um that's the kind of person that would do that though.
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this guy looks suspiciously deaf at least.
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: Um and is working in security.
- 53:27SPEAKER_04: Um that's half the cars so far.
- 53:29SPEAKER_01: Wow, okay.
- 53:29SPEAKER_04: We'll go through it pretty quickly.
- 53:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 53:32SPEAKER_04: An Infinity Q45.
- 53:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, boring.
- 53:35SPEAKER_04: Don't know what that is.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: It's a posh Nissan.
- 53:37SPEAKER_01: Next.
- 53:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you're right.
- 53:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 53:40SPEAKER_04: Two Jaguars.
- 53:41SPEAKER_04: Um, what are the Jags?
- 53:43SPEAKER_04: X XJ220.
- 53:46SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, that's nice.
- 53:47SPEAKER_01: It's very rare.
- 53:48SPEAKER_04: XK8 coupe.
- 53:50SPEAKER_01: XK8 coupe, yeah, that's also very nice.
- 53:53SPEAKER_01: V8 V8.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: Again, don't even know if I'm pronouncing anything.
- 53:56SPEAKER_01: Back in the days when Jags used to be good, they're so boring now.
- 53:59SPEAKER_04: They were really yeah, th that was a time when again, like 90s jags were like they were really big around that time again.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: I feel like yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:08SPEAKER_01: My yeah, my dad loved Jags, so I sort of grew up with he always had a jag mostly.
- 54:12SPEAKER_01: And then I remember he had a fucking well, this was before I was born, but in the 80s he had an XJS V12.
- 54:18SPEAKER_01: Okay, which is insane.
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: There's a coupe that had a fucking six-litre V12 in it.
- 54:23SPEAKER_01: It was absolutely ridiculous.
- 54:24SPEAKER_01: It was kind of like a touring coupé.
- 54:26SPEAKER_01: Um, and of course, it's like it's slower than a modern four-cylinder, but yeah, god, what what a beast.
- 54:33SPEAKER_04: I think like I'm I'm trying to think of like why they became came back in the 90s now.
- 54:37SPEAKER_04: I I feel like, and this might be completely off base, but I feel like they came back because of Austin Powers.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, I feel like that's part of it.
- 54:46SPEAKER_01: Well, it's Austin Powers and and the Bond movies had Yeah.
- 54:51SPEAKER_01: Because at the time, Aston Martin and Jaguar were owned, were both owned by Ford.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 54:57SPEAKER_01: And um, and then and then now Aston Martin is the same thing, and Jaguar and Land Rover are owned by the same company.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: But yeah, so there was so there was that die another day has like the villains all have Jags and James Bond has an Aston Martin.
- 55:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 55:10SPEAKER_04: That's like the car equivalent of like how the villain the how the the hero can only have an Apple phone, but that you can't have the the villain can't have an Apple phone ever.
- 55:21SPEAKER_01: So like if you ever see The villains all have to be texting in like Comic Sans.
- 55:25SPEAKER_04: It's really it's a really stupid thing of like in the films of like if if someone has an Apple phone, you like know they're a good person.
- 55:31SPEAKER_04: It's like that's one thing you'll you'll notice now in like every film.
- 55:35SPEAKER_04: It's a thing of in um I think it's in what is that film?
- 55:42SPEAKER_04: The not Glass Onion, what's the one before it?
- 55:46SPEAKER_04: Oh knives out.
- 55:47SPEAKER_04: Knives Out, yeah.
- 55:48SPEAKER_04: Because Chris Evans has like, he's the only one with like with like a Samsung or something.
- 55:53SPEAKER_04: Oh okay.
- 55:54SPEAKER_01: It's so funny with that kind of like clearance stuff, like legally, because I'm just like, if you're Apple, like basically everyone has an iPhone.
- 56:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 56:02SPEAKER_01: So then surely, like it's it's crazy to me that legally you're able to argue that, like, oh well, this guy in the movie can't have an iPhone because he's a bad guy, and it's like, yeah, but everyone has an iPhone, including the bad guys.
- 56:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like half the people who work for you are bad guys and have iPhones.
- 56:16SPEAKER_00: Like, you know what I mean?
- 56:17SPEAKER_00: It's just like it's sort of mad.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:19SPEAKER_01: It's like it's like owning an Apple farm and being like, well, hang on, the bad guy can't eat an apple.
- 56:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, he has to be an orange.
- 56:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 56:26SPEAKER_01: What does Samsung think about all this?
- 56:27SPEAKER_01: I don't think Samsung give a fuck.
- 56:29SPEAKER_01: I think they're just like, yeah, the product placement, who cares?
- 56:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 56:31SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, they they have the correct view.
- 56:33SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, when your product is the default product, it's just like, yeah, well, there you go.
- 56:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 56:39SPEAKER_04: But yeah, I wonder if that was the thing of like the cut with the cars then.
- 56:42SPEAKER_04: Like, hmm, good good cars, bad cars.
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, maybe.
- 56:46SPEAKER_01: Well, I remember there was an ad for Jaguar about like 15 years ago, or maybe like 12 years ago, where it was like they had like Tom Hiddleston and Mark Strong and some other people in it.
- 56:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 56:57SPEAKER_01: And it was talking about like the the bad guys in in action movies are always British, oh very relevant to this movie.
- 57:03SPEAKER_01: Very true.
- 57:04SPEAKER_01: Um, and it was like various like action movie style shots of like, and it was like, and we all drive Jacobs.
- 57:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 57:10SPEAKER_01: Um and I'm like, there you go, they've capitalised.
- 57:13SPEAKER_01: It was good, it was good marketing.
- 57:15SPEAKER_04: Um okay, so let's let's rush through this list.
- 57:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 57:19SPEAKER_04: We've got to get to the end before I think we've got like five minutes or so.
- 57:23SPEAKER_04: Um so okay, so we've got Lamborghini Diablo, yeah, fine, Lexus LS 400.
- 57:30SPEAKER_01: Is it the crystal multisante car?
- 57:33SPEAKER_01: So I say, oh, the Soprados.
- 57:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 57:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:36SPEAKER_01: It's a real like Lexus tried to make like an S class.
- 57:40SPEAKER_04: That's like my one what's the term white wolf of like show big shows that I haven't seen.
- 57:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay, yeah.
- 57:47SPEAKER_01: Of course, yeah.
- 57:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's good.
- 57:49SPEAKER_04: I've seen like every other of the big like classics that you need to see, but like surprise, team first season, that's it.
- 57:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: I've watched two-thirds of it with so many girlfriends.
- 58:01SPEAKER_01: But never quite made it.
- 58:01SPEAKER_01: I've made it all the way through on my own, but yeah, yeah.
- 58:04SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 58:04SPEAKER_04: Interesting.
- 58:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:06SPEAKER_01: I've seen it all the way through once, and I've seen it two-thirds of the way through so many times.
- 58:11SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's the reason.
- 58:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, maybe, maybe.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: Just need to have a relationship that lasts long enough to get through all of the sopranos.
- 58:19SPEAKER_01: It's not even that long a show.
- 58:21SPEAKER_01: No, I know, but it's like, you know, when you're like, you know, you're not watching it every night.
- 58:24SPEAKER_01: No, of course not.
- 58:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:26SPEAKER_04: Um what else we got?
- 58:28SPEAKER_04: We got Lincoln Navigator.
- 58:30SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 58:31SPEAKER_04: Throwback some time.
- 58:33SPEAKER_04: Uh okay, you got these Benzes.
- 58:36SPEAKER_04: You got 300 SL.
- 58:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, nice.
- 58:39SPEAKER_04: CL500, yeah.
- 58:41SPEAKER_04: S600 and then SL600.
- 58:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: This is back in the era of like huge engine Mercedes.
- 58:48SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 58:49SPEAKER_04: Mercury Custom, which I guess is like a of like one of the classic cars they they st steal.
- 58:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I don't know what that is, yeah.
- 58:54SPEAKER_04: It's like a 1950 car.
- 58:56SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 58:56SPEAKER_04: Uh Plymouth Hemicuda.
- 58:59SPEAKER_04: Plymouth Roadrunner.
- 59:00SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, yeah.
- 59:00SPEAKER_01: The the Hemicuda is the car that they're like, they almost fucking, I think.
- 59:05SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah.
- 59:05SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 59:06SPEAKER_01: Well no, actually no, they're they're discussing it in there and they're in a different car.
- 59:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 59:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 59:11SPEAKER_04: I remember them talking about the Plymouth.
- 59:13SPEAKER_04: Pontiac GCO, which is the car I actually know.
- 59:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 59:16SPEAKER_04: Uh Porsche 966 and Boxster and Speedster and 959 and then 911 twin turbo.
- 59:25SPEAKER_04: 966.
- 59:26SPEAKER_04: Not a 996.
- 59:28SPEAKER_01: Uh sorry, 996, yeah.
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 59:31SPEAKER_01: That was that was like the 911 at the time.
- 59:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 59:33SPEAKER_01: Um the 911 at the time.
- 59:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:36SPEAKER_01: Well, before the following year, we got a different 9-11, I'll say that.
- 59:39SPEAKER_04: I mean, they do wants to steal the 9-11 twin turbo, which is ironically named.
- 59:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 59:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, they were prefiguring something there.
- 59:46SPEAKER_01: Porsche were in on it.
- 59:47SPEAKER_01: That's my conspiracy theory.
- 59:49SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, the but yeah, Porsche have the most fucked numbering system in the world because like the you have the you have the Porsche 9-11, which they call the the 9-11 9-11, which is like the original one, which they made from like the 60s until 1979.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_01: And then there's like the uh and then there's like the 911, is it a 968 or something?
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_01: There's like a and then you've got like and then there's the 993 and then the 996, and then the 997.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_01: These are all still 911s, by the way.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then it goes 991 and then 992.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_01: I wanna it it makes no sense.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_01: It's it's in for a German company, it's baffling.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, of all of all the countries, like that that's the least, like the the one that you would expect it from the least.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know what the flagship car was before the 9-11?
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_01: 356.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_01: Make it make sense.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_01: Every Porsche starts with a nine for no appreciable reason, and they they're not even in sequential order.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_01: Look, it's all you can do.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_04: Um Rolls Royce, stretch limo stretch limo, Shelby AC Cobra, Shelby Mustang GT500.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_01: Of course, the big one.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_04: Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Toyota Super Turbo, and then the last car, Volvo Volvo Volvo V70R.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_04: Now the Volvo V70R, pretty nice.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_01: Pretty nice.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_01: Bit of a yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_01: It's like really like uh it's a it's a it's an estate, but it's just got like a huge engine.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_04: Each each I've just noticed this, each of these cars has like a girl's name as the code.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's all they that's all they did, yeah.
- 1:01:33unknown: Eleanor.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_04: I mean yeah, Eleanor is the is the what is his white whale.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_04: Of course.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_04: Um so yeah, well let's we'll that's that's all the cars.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_04: Like again, like you love this because it's uh do you love this because it's a car movie, or do you love this because it's a fun action movie?
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_01: A bit of both.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_01: I think I think I appreciate the car aspect of it more now, now that I know more about cars.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: But yeah.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_04: Is this the movie that got you into cars?
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_04: Do you think?
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_01: I don't think so.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_01: I think I'm into cars because my dad was into cars, but my dad was into cars in exactly the same way about me as me.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_01: Like he knew enough about them to maintain an interest, but not remotely enough to be accepted as a car guy.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_01: So I'm carrying on that family tradition.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_04: And would you ever would you ever buy one of these cars?
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, definitely.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_01: Those, any of those Ferraris, the Porsche 911, 996, yeah, 100%.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_01: Love all of those.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_04: A lot of the cars in this are a bit, they're a bit yanked for me, but yeah, that is I was gonna say that they don't feel like they would they would stand out so much in this in this country as well.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, not a muscle car guy, they're not quick enough.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_01: I don't.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_01: I like I like actual power, not just like a huge engine that makes a noise.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_04: I wish you said, yeah, I wanted a Hammer.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_04: I wanted a Hammer with the raised raised wheels and the what is it?
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_04: No, it's raised.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_01: God, imagine parking that in Hackney.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_04: Fucking hell.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_04: Just immediately frozen into.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_01: I once saw a Hummer limousine try and turn left out of one of those alleyways onto Brick Lane, and he had to do it in like it took him like 10 minutes.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_01: Like people eventually clapped him when he managed it because it was like so, like it took him so long, like like 72.10 just to turn left out of a turning.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_01: For those who don't know as well, brick lane is not the brick lane is tight.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_01: It's very narrow.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he was turning from one very narrow street onto another very narrow street, and they were like, they had like bollards on the corner.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, it was nightmare scenes for him.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_01: I'd have been having a panic attack if that was me.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_04: I once, I actually like speaking of Brick Lane, I once had to like in in Whitechapel, I had to um maneuver a a a zip car, but like a zip van, actually, it was.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_04: Um, and this was my first time driving a manual in like five, six years.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_04: I hadn't driven one in ages, but like but it was a manual van, I had to manoeuvre it out of like this tight space, and then there was like on the other side was uh was uh a load of road works going on, and so like you couldn't you couldn't even get out normally.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_04: So and you couldn't, and because there were no there was no like uh middle mirror uh winds like fancy out the back.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_04: It took me I spent I think I spent the best part of the parking sensors.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_04: Not really, okay.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_01: Because the zip bands usually do, which are a life saving.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it took me like the best part of about like 30 minutes to get out of the space.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_04: So like fucking hell.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, that's not what you want.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_04: It's not ideal for a first time out.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but that was like right by Brick Lane.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_04: Crikey.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_04: Um, okay, so like we yeah, you love this movie.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_04: Like you it would you put it up there as like one of your you I you probably don't put it out there as one of your favourites, do you?
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_01: No, no, it's more of a it's more of a guilty pleasure.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a it's nostalgia value.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_01: But it's fun, it's a fun movie.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_04: I think it's better than 24%.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_04: It's definitely better than 24%.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_04: You so you actually think also you think this is better than the Fast and Furious entire franchise.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, I think so.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_04: That's fascinating.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_04: Like I really I I I I think it's fine, but like I would not put I wouldn't even put it close to like at least at least.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh let me be clear.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_01: I don't think the Fast and Furious franchise is stiff competition.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_04: That is true.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_04: There's a there's a there's a there's a chunk of them that I think are awful, but there's there's there's like a handful of them that I do really enjoy.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I don't know.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_01: I think yeah, that there's a there's a certain comedy value to to Tokyo Drift, but oh for sure.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_04: Tokyo Drift is the worst of them, but the but the best to watch.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_01: Oh no, it's not the worst.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_01: I think every movie after Tokyo Drift is worse than Tokyo Drift.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_01: Furious seven is like unwatchably bad.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_01: That is horrifyingly bad.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_01: Because of the fake Paul Walker.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_01: Um no, I think that might be Furious 8.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_01: Is it seven?
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_04: Seven is is when they had to like half CGI him in.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's really bad.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_01: It's really, really bad.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_01: I also hate that they just started calling them furious, whatever.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_04: That was really Oh, there's no the the that's a thing that speaking of like the the the Porsche numbering system, the the the Fast and Furious numbering system is is insane.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_04: There is no logic to any of them.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_01: And they will make Fast and Furious 911s if you make it.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_04: One of the things.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_04: Hobbs and Shaw, what was that about?
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_01: I've never even watched it.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_04: That's the one I haven't seen.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_04: I refuse to watch it.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_04: Even though I love Hydra Silva.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_01: God, he's lowering himself to that.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_04: Okay, so let's let's talk about the final thing, which uh we'll talk about very briefly because you have to like you have to go.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_04: But um a movie that's the reverse of this, which is a bad uh uh is is a well-loved movie and well reviewed by critics that you actually think is bad.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_01: Uh Richard Linknate's boyhood.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_04: Oh, again, a popular choice on here.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_04: Oh, is it?
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but it's so bad.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_04: I completely agree.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_04: I completely agree.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_01: One of my mates chose it as like we were all like hungover after a house party, and it was like it was 2014.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_01: He was like, Oh, I've I heard this movie was good, and he put it on the projector.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_01: We have been bullying him about this since 2014.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_04: And every time he's like, I said I'm sorry, let me put this three and a half hour 14 year like it was so bad.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_01: Like the amount of the point where they were just like reusing previous plot points, they're like, Oh, she's gonna marry another alcoholic, and it's like this is so lazy.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I hated that movie.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_01: I think movies should not be boring, and I think a lot of movies uh take.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, but I mean so many movies, like almost like where being boring is like a badge of honour, like that means it's like interesting, or like and it's like, no, it means it's not interesting, it means I'm bored.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_01: Like, retain my attention, yeah.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, no, boy boyhood, awful film, start to finish, terrible dialogue, terrible acting.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but I think well, well, the funny thing is they cast that boy in it, and then he turned out to be a bad actor, and then like he can't do anything with it because he's stuck in it now for 14 years.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_04: Awful ending.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, awful ending.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_01: No, all of it.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_01: Bin, absolute bin.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_01: Have a lot of people chosen that for this.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but as as in like the as this this thing of like a well-reviewed movie that is actually bad, like people do not like it.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_04: It's I I would say it's actually like probably the second most chosen after Lalaland.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_04: Oh wow, okay.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_04: Well there you go.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_04: People do not like that movie.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_01: I'm more normie than I see.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_04: But it's funny because like, yeah, it's it's I'm I the more people talk about it, the more I've grown to hate it.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_04: It's hard to defend.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_04: It's yeah, I I don't I didn't like it.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_04: Like again, I saw it the first time I saw it, I was like, yeah, this is impressive.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_04: But then I've like looked thought back on it.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_04: I'm like, the movie is bad.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_04: This it's just an impressive feat.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_04: It's just the fact that you took it.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_01: Just the fact that it's technically impressive doesn't mean it's worthwhile.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_04: The story is awful.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_01: Um anyway, I am gonna have to go.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, okay.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_01: So yeah, just to wrap up, like, what is um how can we find you on like how can everyone find you online and like um I'm at Milo underscore Edwards on most things, apart from TikTok, where I'm uh uh Milo Edwards 3 with no underscore because who knows?
