AfroLit Alcove, launched by Sheymirra Lawson in July 2024, is a mobile bookstore bringing Black voices front and center at festivals and markets, offering everything from board books to adult titles—including a growing LGBTQ+ section—to ensure every reader finds a story that reflects them. Born from Lawson’s fear for her son’s safety and her own sense of erasure, the project is a mission to preserve Black culture and community history through literature.
