Transcript
- 0:41Thank God, you're a professional in three, two, one, go.
- 0:48Oh, welcome back to a hamster with a blunt penknife at the
- 0:52Doctor Who commentary podcast. We have been drawn down from our
- 0:56astral plane down to vultus and we are ready to talk about
- 1:02episode 2 of the web Planet which is called the Czar.
- 1:07Be he he he Exactly. Sorry, so I think things are
- 1:19about to get a whole lot weirder, aren't they very much.
- 1:23So, yeah, although would it surprise, the pair of you to
- 1:27know that before we head into this episode, I have a question
- 1:30for you both. I'm stunned, fire away.
- 1:35What is your preference in the William?
- 1:39Harley era, the historical or the science fiction Tale?
- 1:44Or the sideways tail because they did those back with as
- 1:47well. Oh, I stomp sure.
- 1:54I think I have two answers. I think, because it changes as
- 1:57they go there as he goes through, I think, right at the
- 2:03beginning. If you ignore the tribe of gum,
- 2:07the historical Czar generally better.
- 2:12But by the time you get into the end, kind of more invest in the
- 2:15science fiction. Having said that, I don't think
- 2:20there's a a I don't think there's a bad William Hartnell
- 2:23historical. No, I agree.
- 2:25I wrote. And even even the tribe of gum,
- 2:28I think it has fantastic moments.
- 2:32Yeah, I agree with you on that. And it's a really, it was a
- 2:34really good way to Just reintroduce.
- 2:40The, the weirdness, after having hit them front and center with
- 2:46an unearthly child, I do think that there are poor science
- 2:51fiction. Yeah, stories.
- 2:54In in the William Hartnell era, Any example, not a, not a huge
- 3:00number. I would say the space museum,
- 3:07brilliant episode 1, all the rest could be condensed into it
- 3:10into a single part on Osama, dude.
- 3:13I think say about that. You know, he's not here so don't
- 3:16worry about it. Since rights again, some nice
- 3:22ideas but very slow, big chunks of Dalek master.
- 3:26Plan could be cut out. They really don't need to Go to
- 3:28ancient Egypt. What about you thigh?
- 3:35Well, I would say exactly the same thing I shall.
- 3:40I think the earliest oracle's are magnificent and really
- 3:45unbeatable but they were not the ones that I like sort of in book
- 3:49form. As a as a child, it was all the
- 3:52science fiction ones that really grabbed me and I was really
- 3:55interested in, and it historicals looked ball rigged.
- 3:59So he sort of growing up in the 80s and I think that was sort of
- 4:04the That you were given of doctor that the historicals were
- 4:08worthy. But, oh, no one watched them.
- 4:11No one really liked them. And they were all about the more
- 4:13noise and all the science fiction, Adventures, or
- 4:16whatever, but I've come to appreciate those a lot as an
- 4:21adult. I've really, really loved those
- 4:24so but yeah, there's something about Hartnell science fiction.
- 4:29I think, which is really interesting and they're trying,
- 4:32they're going for Big Ideas and big Concepts.
- 4:35So, rather than just always sort of alien race of the week,
- 4:39that's invading somewhere, which they settle on in Syria in
- 4:43season four and five, particularly so there's just
- 4:49again, an anything-goes feeling to this whole era and they're
- 4:54going to try it, whatever. And however and I'll yeah, I
- 4:58like that very much about these three years I think because it
- 5:04is, it is right to the end of the three years because the
- 5:09Savages which is a story I really like.
- 5:14And I know it's not particularly well thought of it's a really
- 5:18nice story and it's doing something different.
- 5:22Yeah, and even sort of the war machines coming after that is
- 5:25something that Doctor Who has not really done before.
- 5:29It's just that that becomes the template for what comes all the
- 5:33time afterwards. Even where you end here with the
- 5:3710th planet and those ghoulish Cybermen like they hadn't done
- 5:41anything like that before either.
- 5:43So right up until the last minute, they were innovating.
- 5:48Well gentlemen, shall we? Perhaps Tip into the web Planet
- 5:52episode 2, where the Innovation is well Riding High.
- 5:59I'm ready. Yep.
- 6:02Then Simon whichever side. Is it me?
- 6:10I am i counting Us in its place? Okay, four three, two, one.
- 6:21Go off we go. So I'm assuming then the ratings
- 6:26were not quite as high for episode 2.
- 6:29What did you sustained? It pretty well.
- 6:31I'll have to look this up now because I've what's I'm going to
- 6:34get my facts wrong and that's so hard.
- 6:37You surprised? No, I've not, come on Claire.
- 6:44Now, you are my new co-host, okay, changes.
- 6:49So quickly, you get another assignment in.
- 6:54Yeah, and I'm out, that's fine, right?
- 6:58What's up? During I've lost all track of
- 7:00the plot. So we've got, we had a four
- 7:04prong Cliffhanger. So Barbara is about to fall into
- 7:08a pool of acid, that's right. Vicki is stuck in the Tardis
- 7:14that has vanished. So we don't know where she's
- 7:16ended up, and Ian is stuck in a great big net.
- 7:21So you always paying attention and we're about to be introduced
- 7:24to the monob. Tray aren't wait for the first
- 7:27time. So, Simon extra.
- 7:31What do you think of the vanastra?
- 7:33I think they look fantastic now. What pain it was actually the
- 7:40first William Hartnell story. I saw way way way back in the
- 7:45day before any of the VHS releases about the only way that
- 7:48you could get to see Doctor Who stuff was either turn up to
- 7:52conventions or try and persuade somebody who was able to copy
- 7:59tapes to decision tape and I managed to Badger somebody to
- 8:06send me a Hartnell and troughton and I got the web planet and the
- 8:11crow charms. Which is why both of them have a
- 8:15special place in my heart but particular the web Planet, I
- 8:18absolutely loved it. My first my first introduction
- 8:23was the radio times 20th anniversary special where they
- 8:29did a list of all of the Doctor Who stories to that point and
- 8:35their description of the web planet was the monster Tori to
- 8:37end all monster stories with not just one, but five different
- 8:43alien. His, and that was the entire
- 8:45description and it just sounded fascinating.
- 8:48And that came out at the same time.
- 8:50As the five doctors was being screened and that was the, that
- 8:55was really the thing that turned me from somebody who enjoys
- 8:58watching Doctor Who and has watched it my entire life to.
- 9:02I am a fan of Doctor Who and there is a massive history about
- 9:05this that I want to know about and there are all these stories
- 9:09that I want to hear about maybe it was as a result of that, that
- 9:11I joined your ass back in 83 Did the story live up to?
- 9:18Obviously you had an idea of what the story was going to be
- 9:20like. Given that description did it
- 9:22live up to what you are? Hoping it was going to be hello
- 9:26doctoral. We do just bursting up onto the
- 9:30screen now. That was good moment.
- 9:32I've been having lessons from what's-her-name.
- 9:34Who did this live de Winters? Proto voguing.
- 9:47Yeah, just a little extension from the costume.
- 9:50You know, it's a just a real attempt to suggest that they
- 9:53were you know what's amazing is later on when they come swooping
- 9:56in, on the wires. Yeah, that weird music playing
- 10:00in the background this incredible, but that's what,
- 10:03I'm, that's one of the things that the, the Musa is does.
- 10:06Now, doesn't it where they have coaches to do the alien
- 10:09movement, so that all of the alien races are well, thought
- 10:13through. So, all of this started Add in
- 10:15the 60s and we mocked it for years.
- 10:18So insect Movement, by Rosalind the winter, but actually,
- 10:23they're doing something to create a credible and different
- 10:26kind of alien race that some of the other alien races afterwards
- 10:30would have done. Well, to, to sort of emulate,
- 10:34you attempting to suggest that the half are as memorable as the
- 10:38manometer, and I'll take that as a no.
- 10:46I've been knocked your beautiful, like they've got,
- 10:50they've made them with wings that actually extend, which is
- 10:54just wonderful. It's just that attention to
- 10:57detail really makes them and wowzers.
- 11:01That's a model shot, isn't it? That's hardest being dragged.
- 11:03Across that sort of smoky playing.
- 11:09Are they all trying out? They like yeah, it really does.
- 11:18Because okay, okay, well, this is the point where I want to ask
- 11:20you about, Richard, Martin and his merits, or otherwise, as a
- 11:26director, and I'm going to throw this out to dr.
- 11:31Exton first. Looking at it dispassionately.
- 11:43There are bit, there are bits of this, whether Direction could be
- 11:46tightened up. I talked in the last episode
- 11:48about how we could do without the zombie in it and having a
- 11:53proper monster reveal at the end.
- 11:54This would be a fantastic monster reveal where you've just
- 11:57got Vicky looking up at the scanner with the Czar be
- 12:00appearing in, and there's just all that reaction on her face.
- 12:03She Maureen O'Brien. Did that brilliantly?
- 12:06And that would make, that would make a fantastic monster reveal
- 12:10but we didn't get that. I don't think he's the greatest
- 12:14director that the show has ever seen.
- 12:18I think they, I think they needed somebody with a bit more
- 12:23or could have done with somebody with bit more and a bit more
- 12:27vision for that. And something like Warriors,
- 12:29Hussein would have been fantastic but they didn't have
- 12:33workers who say they had Richard Martin.
- 12:35I think he does a good competent job and the inventiveness of the
- 12:40plot and the visuals. Cover up for degrees of slow,
- 12:46Direction by spit weather. Just amused by Barbara's hair.
- 12:52Yeah, that's another wonderful. My my biggest objection to
- 12:56Richard Martin is that in the special features of the Chase?
- 13:00And I think this as well, he is lamenting the fact that, you
- 13:04know, he didn't have a lot of money to realize because he had
- 13:08really beautiful ideas of how they should look, you know.
- 13:13And that he didn't have the time to get it, right?
- 13:16But you know they gave him all the Blockbusters of season 2
- 13:20didn't, they gave him Dalek invasion of Earth.
- 13:23They gave him the Chase and they gave him the web Planet.
- 13:26So that's the that's the big hitters of this season, really?
- 13:29You know? And I don't think he's up to
- 13:32directing those and you look at the work that Douglas Adams is
- 13:36doing in the same seems Campfield you me.
- 13:39Oh, so that's it. Direct how long before he was a
- 13:44writer but with the same money with the same time and it's far
- 13:49more polished yellow and and so I don't think it's entirely.
- 13:54I don't think he can break blame time and money.
- 13:57I do think it's down to the competence of the director and
- 13:59their scenes. In this like weather's are be
- 14:01Wilson to the camera where they Ian and rest in go underground.
- 14:07And you can hear someone laughing in the background, like
- 14:10things like that should be, they should Never have made it to the
- 14:13screen, no matter how few counts they can have.
- 14:17So don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I think this is
- 14:20completely incompetent I think they do a good stab.
- 14:25I question whether they handed it to the right man.
- 14:28Personally it's really interesting because he is Rich.
- 14:32Martin is a brilliant director on film where he does have more
- 14:36time and he does have more control and he can cut a lot
- 14:40more easily. So you think The Dalek and
- 14:43mechanoids fight at the end of the chase, or those scenes
- 14:49running around London, in the Dalek invasion of Earth.
- 14:53And he's suddenly, that sort of seems on a different seems
- 14:57almost like a different director to the for the rest of the
- 15:00stories that you're watching. So he he does have a flair on
- 15:06when he's got time and sort of resources to do that.
- 15:10I've been his Studio. those always seemed a bit fraught, and
- 15:19I don't know, whether he's just sort of trying to push it just a
- 15:22bit too far and he's just a bit out of his comfort zone and
- 15:28can't quite get what he wants onto the screen, but it always
- 15:33feels like there's nothing is ever quite right.
- 15:37When he's on videotape in the studio, trying to put things
- 15:41together and he always Carswell and the cost of this is they do
- 15:46magnificently. Who is going on here with the
- 15:49tallest being dragged into that thing with all the tentacles
- 15:53reaching. It's so weird, isn't it?
- 15:57Yeah. Okay I see there is Imagination
- 15:59here that comes from the script and he is doing his best to
- 16:02bring that up, but trying to is there an inference of this whole
- 16:06planet is alive because like the the kind of the evil cancer and
- 16:12it's under the ground, this part of the planet, isn't it?
- 16:16It's grown. It's grown from the vote of the
- 16:20fabric of the planet and there's a bit later on what they say,
- 16:22when it's grown, right? The way around the planet,
- 16:24should be too late and it's entertaining.
- 16:29And it's interesting that you say cancer because the name
- 16:32casa, no was taken from carcinoma description of cancer.
- 16:38I'll say yes. I think, actually, she says
- 16:57that's growing at the heart of this planet, but that is like,
- 17:01that is a staggering idea. Yeah, I think we'll struts in
- 17:05is, is very imaginative. His ideas are our big and alien,
- 17:12and imagining a world that has I can't answer that is growing and
- 17:18has changed the world and has forced some of the population
- 17:22away. And it's taken control of.
- 17:25The animals is just wonderful. We'll talk about Bill strassen,
- 17:31doctor exten. Have you read the novel of this?
- 17:33The web planet? Yes.
- 17:36Quite a few times and I never have.
- 17:39How does it read pretty well? It, it does expand on some bits
- 17:47the story. it's quite a long time since I've read it, but it
- 17:55was that it was the novel was actually my first introduction
- 17:58to the story. Proper before I saw it, right?
- 18:01And okay. And that's true for almost all
- 18:05of the 60s Doctor Who because I've read the targets before any
- 18:13of the any of the the VHS is were available.
- 18:21That was the only way we had to had to experience and wasn't it?
- 18:25I'm sorry. Go on.
- 18:27I was gonna say it's kind of why they're historical sites, were a
- 18:30bit unknown territory for me. When I do, I came to watch them
- 18:35because most of the historical 's weren't in that run of the
- 18:44Terrance dicks. Very short Target novels.
- 18:49Mmm. They tended to come along later
- 18:51and you had Donald cotton doing the Romans in the mythmakers and
- 18:55the gun Fighters and they're all brilliant books, but they're
- 18:58all, they're all good series. Yeah.
- 19:01And then John Luke karate came and did did all of his but now
- 19:04until sort of the mid-80s at the earliest.
- 19:07So it was only the the Crusaders was was the most of the one
- 19:11muscle it originally. So he's one of the original
- 19:14Three, wasn't it? Yes, it was this, the Crusade
- 19:17and they the doll exciting adventure with the Alex.
- 19:21Yeah, I do with the three ones in the 60s and that then it was
- 19:26late. So to mid 70s by the time you
- 19:28get in the Terran stick stuff. So when your original like
- 19:32realization of this story was in your head, you know you yeah
- 19:37until all the pictures yourself. So I find that even more
- 19:39extraordinary than that you didn't went on and watch this.
- 19:42And you were as impressed as you know, I've been Wicked.
- 19:44Sorry that I've complained about Richard Martin but there was a
- 19:51extraordinary shot there from above.
- 19:53He shot it from right above the set.
- 19:55Of the zombies. All surrounding the doctor
- 19:58Indian? Yeah.
- 19:59That was quite impressive. It looks fantastic.
- 20:02And there was a shot earlier. That was really, really nice of
- 20:05Vicki. In the Tardis shot through the
- 20:08time rotor. Yes, wonderful.
- 20:13So I wonder if he did, I have. Okay.
- 20:14Maybe I'm being maybe if he did have more time and certainly
- 20:18more money. Like so you were saying about
- 20:20when he's shooting on film and those sequences of the monob try
- 20:23flying in. That's one film isn't That is.
- 20:26Yeah, so it does look A Cut Above those sequences.
- 20:30I think that's where his vision is.
- 20:32Best realized in those sequences there.
- 20:36Yeah, some we have some of the 60s directors.
- 20:39It would be interesting to see what they have done in the 70s
- 20:43and the 80s when there is a bit more time and a bit more budget
- 20:47and see if they could have done something, how they would have
- 20:51approached it differently. Like I wouldn't want to ever
- 20:57complain about the special effects of classic Doctor Who,
- 21:01but look at this was being done. Now, it would look
- 21:05Extraordinary. Wouldn't it like like the
- 21:07planet? What, yeah, it would be tendrils
- 21:09everywhere. You'd have butterflies flying
- 21:12about well over the place, you know.
- 21:14It would be visually astonishing I think.
- 21:18Yeah. And I'm the set designer talks
- 21:20on the on the DVD with Richard Martin about how they wanted,
- 21:26the class alarm sets to be really organic and Blobby, but
- 21:30they were constrained by the materials that they had to make
- 21:33it because they had to erect it in the studio.
- 21:35So you could do what you could do now and sort of do that.
- 21:40Do a very organic kind of sets sort of Fairly easily but then
- 21:45they were, they had to have something physical that was
- 21:48there. And so you have to have edges
- 21:50and you have to have things standing up, sort of rigid and
- 21:55you can't. And as I said they had to
- 21:57recreate it each week. Back in the studio.
- 22:00They had to put the set back up so they had to have something
- 22:02that could physically be the same each week.
- 22:07And I think they do really well with the the outside because
- 22:10there are tendrils growing into it.
- 22:13Yeah it's a very three-dimensional structure and
- 22:18You get a real feeling of sort of.
- 22:22Looking looking down through that Corridor in the car.
- 22:25So now I've arrived amazed in the way that a lot of sets that
- 22:31try and do the same thing later on in the show's history.
- 22:34Just don't manage. I mean you compare this 2 Omega
- 22:37Citadel in the three doctors which is really poor design.
- 22:43Isn't it? Just like creme brulee, doesn't
- 22:45it? Honestly and this has a ceiling.
- 22:48Yes. Which don't get very offered
- 22:51Omaha. For a sailing in dogs.
- 22:53Yeah, that's so rare. I just, I, we talked over it,
- 23:01but we just had the most amazing shot of a monster going into the
- 23:05Tardis and seeing it going through the police box and see
- 23:09it from the console room as well, which is just incredible
- 23:14hostile. Displacement circuits on us,
- 23:16like, why does it have a little bit break down?
- 23:17And then, come running out again. 14.
- 23:22And it's a doctor extant. I'm assuming that it's because
- 23:26it gets freaked out because as it goes into the Tardis, the
- 23:30Animus is control drops of this, crystalline Communications
- 23:39device here. And, you know, and initially, I
- 23:41thought I would look at this and then that they're kind of like
- 23:44playing about with the crystals, but actually, he doesn't like
- 23:47several times and he does it exactly the same way each time.
- 23:51So they have a Actually fought through this prop and how it
- 23:54works. It's found that the whole
- 23:55contrast between the the surface Fortis shots, where there's
- 24:01there's the lens Vaseline and everything.
- 24:03And okay you can laugh that it looks very primitive and It does
- 24:10look primitive. They were working with what they
- 24:13had at the time. There's a real contrast between
- 24:16that and the in Dorset, but I'll tell you what doctor said,
- 24:21there's nothing wrong with using Vaseline to get the desired
- 24:23effect. You know.
- 24:26I am aware of this. You're a filthy filthy man.
- 24:33Well done. The sound effects, right?
- 24:52Because obviously we listen to this with the sound on, or at
- 24:53least I am and I've heard complaints, you know, that
- 24:57there's our B sound effects can be a little bit grating after a
- 25:00while, but actually, I think especially in 60s who, where,
- 25:06you know, they always have the money, the sound of Effects.
- 25:08Go a long way to creating the atmosphere in the mood of the
- 25:12stall. Gorge are iron.
- 25:15You watch something like Galaxy for.
- 25:18Yeah. And the sound effects are just
- 25:20wonderful or the crow Ton's. Yes.
- 25:23Where there isn't a musical score but this Brian Hodgson is
- 25:28providing one. What about the mines were bar
- 25:31with the white robots and the Clockwork soldiers.
- 25:35Yeah. And this is Okay, time to force
- 25:39emphasise a so they're doing this with cut-up, sounds and
- 25:42tape and loops and on a very, very fast turnover.
- 25:47And he's making the series sound incredibly distinctive and it's
- 25:51no wonder it's sort of influenced a generation of
- 25:55people. You know, I'm not sure about
- 25:58this this action set piece, we're getting like there's all
- 26:02be if John Scott Martin what for He's got it.
- 26:08Look, he's got the thing inside his mouth.
- 26:14Looks like the whole point is that they did.
- 26:16The man optra aren't supposed to be Fighters, they're supposed to
- 26:18be peaceful. They weren't able to get rid of
- 26:21the animals to start with me. They've had to learn the concept
- 26:24of fighting and not all that good at it.
- 26:29That's true. And you know, if they had the
- 26:31money to do, like a swarm of ants Hyo, just all coming all
- 26:35over each other, you know, like, you know, like I swabbed ours
- 26:38and doesn't even say like a signal cost for a seat for a
- 26:41house. Yeah.
- 26:43If they've had the money to realize something like that, I
- 26:46would be absolutely extraordinary.
- 26:48And there was a bit there where The Venom groups have killed one
- 26:53of them at optra and just lying there on the ground and there's
- 26:56our becomes it as just stomping all over the way.
- 26:59It's literally stands on it. Yeah, I do.
- 27:01Now, this is horrible. And what's fabulous about this
- 27:04scene 105 Horace, horrific is it's all through jacket Hills
- 27:09acting. Isn't it about what's happening?
- 27:13And I think that is scarier like not showing us what's going on,
- 27:19is actually of my imagination can go, pretty far out, you
- 27:22know. Really, really, and that the bit
- 27:29in this work, she was wearing the, the gold collar and under
- 27:34control and he pulls the gold collar off, and you can see him
- 27:37struggling with the control to be able to drop it.
- 27:42That was beautifully done. Do you have other?
- 27:47I've been feeling crops on skateboards or something because
- 27:49I say what they get across those so Pharaoh League.
- 27:53I thought there was somebody crawling away underneath.
- 27:55What if there's a scene later on where one just goes straight to
- 27:59say is amazing. Yes, there we go.
- 28:04Jaclyn Hill horror of my she's so good.
- 28:08That is just, that is horrific in a sort of hidden horror kind
- 28:16of way. Just the whole idea of it and
- 28:18Hartnell here where he's trying nonverbal, communication with
- 28:22the zombie, is the doctor trying to think his way through this
- 28:24situation, isn't it? Because that was, that was very
- 28:28first bit of this story I ever saw.
- 28:31When they put it bizarrely on a trailer for silver Nemesis in
- 28:351988, Really. Yeah.
- 28:40So vividly remember the bit where it says?
- 28:42No the doctors not getting through to them.
- 28:45I'll look here we go. Come along and drop this hair
- 28:47dryer or whatever it is. Oh can someone do the line?
- 28:54Come on. Why do you come now?
- 28:57It's a great voice, isn't it? Brilliant and Escape team
- 29:01changer? Oh well, that's a big title that
- 29:05is that sounds like I was one of ten sticks.
- 29:12His favorite chapter titles for his target books, okay?
- 29:16Well then episode because I got a couple of minutes.
- 29:21I want to ask you both, do you The individual episode tiles or
- 29:27do you and do you think like when they were dropped and we we
- 29:30just had a one-story title that was the right time to do it.
- 29:35Dr. Extant briefly. Yes and yes.
- 29:44I do like them and it's like I was saying at the beginning it
- 29:47must have been must be really exciting to start a new story
- 29:54and not know how many episodes it was going to be, is this
- 29:57going to? Is this going to run for 12
- 30:00episodes? Or is it going to be over in
- 30:02two? Or is it just going to be A
- 30:05filler one piece that goes on to do something else.
- 30:10At the end of it, is it going to be a standard for by there by
- 30:14the time you come into the end of season two?
- 30:18Is this historical going to stay a historical?
- 30:21Or is it going to end up with some sort of Science Fiction
- 30:25weirdness to it? Yeah.
- 30:27I like the individual story titles I I mean, I love pretty
- 30:32much all the classic Who so I like the thing that it
- 30:35crystallized into in series 4 and I don't think they could
- 30:40have sustained the level of inventiveness that they were
- 30:43doing in the first three years. Pretty much throughout the whole
- 30:46the Hartnell run. But I love that level of
- 30:50inventiveness. And I think the individual
- 30:53appetizer episode titles really encapsulate that So yeah, I
- 30:59think I think you're right. I was always build.
- 31:02Wasn't it in the radio times as an adventure in in time and
- 31:06space or space and time and that was all it was you never knew
- 31:11how long it was going to be what I like about the individual
- 31:14episode titles, is it means that we've had now nearly 60 years of
- 31:18being able to argue about what the stories are actually called
- 31:22overall, which is always a joy. So, and we are still arguing
- 31:26that one. So this days So it doesn't
- 31:28matter how many pieces of paperwork there are, no one's
- 31:31still has a definitive answer on all of them, and we will all
- 31:34disagree on that. So, I know that that's good, I
- 31:39think, as we hit formulate, more formulaic Doctor Who having an
- 31:44story title and individual Parts makes perfect sense.
- 31:49But here again with freewheeling, it's the early
- 31:52years. We can do anything and and we we
- 31:55are. And I think some of the
- 31:58Individual episode titles. Leave a lot to be desired.
- 32:01Terry Nation. Are you kidding me?
- 32:03There are some of my favorites, the death of time, the brink of
- 32:07Destruction. I mean, I think no, no, it's
- 32:10more Terry Nations. Coronas of the sun.
- 32:13I mean, it sounds good, but it has no meaning for the whole
- 32:17episodes. Are you telling me?
- 32:18You wouldn't turn up for the episode called Coronas of the
- 32:20Sun? Whether you were Hoodwinked or
- 32:23not, I'd probably turned up. Anyway, it's Doctor Who and the
- 32:31other. The other thing that there's a,
- 32:32you can have an argument about with, in some cases is just what
- 32:37constitutes a story. And how long is it?
- 32:40Yeah. Because I am I'm an absolute
- 32:44believer in that, the first four episodes is two separate
- 32:46stories, and another three child is an individual story.
- 32:51And then the tribe of gum is is that marry episode historical.
- 32:55Yeah. And because okay, so and you can
- 33:00argue it because it's the same production team same offer, but
- 33:04not it's not necessarily the same story and in a way you can
- 33:09argue that the ark is two different stories.
- 33:11I was just gonna Actually, just gonna say it or just waiting for
- 33:16moles. Yeah, I actually did, you can
- 33:19find. It had fun with this.
- 33:20Can you? And, and split up?
- 33:22Yeah, I'm because the stories are all.
- 33:25There's more often than not a cliffhanger into the next story.
- 33:31It is one conservative narrative, continuous narrative,
- 33:36and actually, when on the X and most experiment, when we did the
- 33:39ark, We've only done the first two episodes as a contained
- 33:43story because that was our we did to post lockdown episodes
- 33:50when we were first able to get together after about 18 months
- 33:53to do some recording and the the first two episodes of The Ark
- 33:59were, are we're out of lockdown Doctor.
- 34:02Who amazing? I'm gonna guess.
- 34:05What else? I'm gonna listen to tomorrow.
- 34:06Now, we also did come back. Mrs. Noah, which is
