- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So Wayne Dyer is known for saying you don't have to attend
- 0:36every argument you are invited to.
- 0:38What a powerful phrase that is. You don't have to attend every
- 0:42argument you're invited to. So for me, this is such an
- 0:45important phrase because if I have an inkling that my point is
- 0:50being missed, I will engage. And over time, I have had to
- 0:55learn that just because they're missing the point, that doesn't
- 1:00mean that I can educate them on the point because they might not
- 1:04be able to hear it. And this was so hard for me to
- 1:08learn my friends, because I was like, wait, wait, wait.
- 1:12Let me just say this. Let me say this, let me say
- 1:14this. But when you're hunkered down in
- 1:17your belief that you need to educate them, and they're
- 1:20hunkered down in their belief that you're missing their point,
- 1:24there is no resolution. That's why it's an argument.
- 1:28And it's so important to recognize that the more you
- 1:32know. We've all heard it before.
- 1:33When emotions go up, intelligence goes down.
- 1:36Heard me say it a million times. We don't get clarity when we're
- 1:41in that state. All we do is get more hunkered
- 1:45down in our position. There you go, Rufus.
- 1:48Exactly. We get more hunkered down in the
- 1:50position and then what can happen?
- 1:52Nothing can happen because we're not going to move until we can
- 1:56let things simmer down. Go cool off, take a walk, clear
- 1:59your head, do whatever. I mean, that phrase go clear
- 2:02your head is probably one of the most understated statements ever
- 2:08made. Go clear your head.
- 2:09Come on. It's like 4 of the simplest
- 2:12words you will ever hear. And yet it is so powerful, so
- 2:16profound, and so necessary to remember when you are in that
- 2:21state. And again, in arguments,
- 2:23everyone is elevated and everyone has a position and
- 2:27everyone wants everyone to understand their position.
- 2:30And you know what's going to end up happening?
- 2:32Lots more arguing because we have not cleared our head.
- 2:36We have not stepped away and said I choose not to attend this
- 2:39argument. Now, I will be the first one to
- 2:43admit I am stubborn and sometimes I attend arguments and
- 2:48I don't like it afterwards. I always say to myself, what was
- 2:50I doing? And part of the problem I have
- 2:53is that I forget to ask the question because my emotions go
- 2:56up. So my intelligence is down and I
- 2:58forget to ask the question, Should I attend this argument?
- 3:01It's kind of like when someone offers you a ticket to go to a
- 3:04concert and you just are like, oh, that'll be fun.
- 3:07But you're forgetting about the fact that you don't drink and
- 3:10you don't want to go to the concert because you understand
- 3:13that if you go to the concert, there's going to be drinking
- 3:16there. There's going to be loud music,
- 3:17There's going to be lots of people, there's going to be
- 3:19parking issues. And everything about that
- 3:22concert is not you. But you're just looking at one
- 3:25thing, like, oh, I'll attend. Yeah, it should be fine.
- 3:28And then it turns out it's not so fine.
- 3:30It wasn't so fun. So this is very similar.
- 3:34We have to really think things through when we do this stuff.
- 3:36We have to say, OK, do I really want to attend this?
- 3:39And the answer is probably not, probably not, my friends,
- 3:43because it doesn't make any sense to attend it.
- 3:46What makes sense is to say, hey, you know what?
- 3:49Let me step back here for a second.
- 3:51Let me step back, go clear my head, take a walk and say that's
- 3:56OK. And allow us, as I said before,
- 3:59agree to disagree. It's OK.
- 4:01We can agree to disagree and it might not come to any resolution
- 4:05within your situation, your house, your, your work,
- 4:09whatever. But you know, you did not attend
- 4:11the argument and you didn't have to bend your principal if you're
- 4:15not ready to, You know, this is this is one of the most
- 4:19important parts of recognizing that the arguments you attend
- 4:23are not always solvable. They're not always solvable.
- 4:26And sometimes it's just like you're there, you're having the
- 4:29argument, you're like, this is ridiculous and they're not
- 4:32solvable. It's just something to
- 4:34recognize. And if it's not solvable, then
- 4:36why put your energy into it? Why put all of your good energy
- 4:40that you work so hard to maintain into it?
- 4:43I mean, if you're listening to this podcast, I know you work
- 4:46hard on your mindset. I know you work hard on being
- 4:48able to make sure that you are doing the work that you need to,
- 4:53to be a better person. So we have to look at why do I
- 4:56want someone to rob that energy? Why do I want a situation to rob
- 4:59that energy? You know it.
- 5:01You've heard me use the chickens before as an example, and they
- 5:04do not always stay mad at each other.
- 5:08They'll have something happen and then you hear that strange
- 5:11sound right now, that's because a hawk is flying over.
- 5:14Guys got to witness that sound first hand.
- 5:16Look at that. The boys are letting the
- 5:19chickens, the hens know there's a hawk in the area and they're
- 5:22growling and they're letting them know anyway, so you don't
- 5:26always have to attend. And the chickens, they, the
- 5:29hens, they'll get mad at each other and they let it go right
- 5:32away. They walk on.
- 5:33They have a fine day after that. So it's incredibly important to
- 5:38remember you have options. You don't have to attend.
- 5:41All right, my friends, I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:44Have a blessed day. Bye.
