Transcript
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Hey y'all, welcome to today's episode of the Tower of the Floor Podcast.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Will Ernest, here today is my co-host, Evan Sager.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: Hello, y'all.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Uh I do apologize for no preview episode last week as uh I had a cold then.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: I guess you could kind of say I still have it a little now, but it's whatever, and then I drove down to Nashville this past weekend, but it doesn't matter.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: We're we're back now, so uh let's get into it with some other news first, some big news out of uh NHRA that came out in this past week.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Uh they've announced that the Pro Stock class will return to using hood scoops and will switch using two top-mounted four-barrel style throttle bodies starting with the 2027 season.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: These changes have been implemented in an attempt to increase parity in the class and also to lower long-term total costs for the teams.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: The hood scoops for Pro Stock were last ran in 2016, so a decade ago, before switching to the current um electronic fuel injection, also known as EFI and uh flat hoods that we have now.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: EFI will stick around into next year, but the hood scoops, which have been popular among teams um that have been recently, I guess polled, if you will, um, they will return and uh in other uh news in NASCAR news anyways, NASCAR has confirmed that preseason thunder testing will return to Daytona Um next year in January of 2027.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Can we get a round of applause?
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: Finally, it's been so long we've been waiting for this.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Speed week is officially back.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: I wish it was Speed Weeks, but you know, we take what we can get with NASCAR.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: We we can take what we can get.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: We we used to pray for times like these.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Yes, literally real.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Um, but they're gonna try and change things with the spoiler and the horsepower and whatever to hopefully improve the super speedway package and make the racing at Dayton and Talladega hopefully more like Atlanta.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: And also with NASCAR on their Holler Talk podcast, they confirmed that the stage links at Talladega will end up changing to try and uh mitigate the fuel saving effect that we've seen in past years.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: But if you really want to mitigate fuel saving, just keep the stages but get rid of the stage cautions.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: I mean that if you really want to actually mitigate the fuel saving, that's that's the solution there.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: And honestly, I've been I I don't know if I said this in the episode episode lucrately, but I've been advocating for no stage cautions.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, for sure.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: Don't get me wrong on some tracks, like Phoenix, for example, or Las Vegas for a couple of examples.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: They help out with the restart and make the productive racing better.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: But overall, I think if we took out the stage caution, I think it'll make the focus on the drivers more and the equipment.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: I I at least take out stage cautions for super speedways and road courses, but that's just me.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, I guess we did road courses for a bit, but I don't know.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: I mean it it it does help road courses specifically because they get so stretched out.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Road courses, like the one exception I will be okay with stage cautions.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Because I'm not a big road racer myself.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: I like the ovals.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Road racing's never been my thing.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: There's a couple tracks like Road America I like.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: This the street course I actually did like, surprisingly.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: I mean Dakota, I like it.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Sonoma, it's okay.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, while we'll have to see how San Diego does, uh Road America needs to come back and schedule, please.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Bring it back.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Watkins Glenn, it's okay.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: I just don't like the reconfiguration deal with the bus stop.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: That's my take.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Well, it's not like they wanted to make that change.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: I I also like the road the indie road course.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: I did and the rule.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Honestly, like the role like the the concept of the rule I like.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: As much as people didn't like it, I kinda did.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: I like the the aspect of having a road race and a Charlotte race kind of all in one.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't know.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: I was not as fast as like a regular, like the I mean I like how they come.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: I like I like how they're back at the Charlotte Oval for the fall race for now because the intermediate package is the best package.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: And until we fix the road racing package, there should be less road course races.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: I mean I say that and here I am saying bring back Road America, but let's be honest, San Diego is gonna be like a one-year thing, and I mean, is there really any other cities that are in contention for another street course race like actively?
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: I kinda want St.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Louis.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: I think St.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Louis would be a good one.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Except there's already Gateway right across the river.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah, but you can have the arch in the background.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean I've driven by the track.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: I've never been personally in the track, but yeah.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: But anyways, back to other news.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: If there wasn't enough action in Nashville this past weekend with the car store at the fairgrounds, which we're about to talk about, there was also super cross in town this weekend inside uh uh Nissan Stadium.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: There was there was quite a big crowd, which was not what I was expecting.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: I'd watched a little bit at the at the hotel on television.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: It was just it was pretty nice there.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Nice big crowd.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: If only NASCAR could do that.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Literally.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: But because it's attendance at Bristol, god awful.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Jesus.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Can we just get rid of Spring Bristol, please?
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: Honestly, I'm I'm a fan of that now.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: I wasn't for a while.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: I like the dirt idea they did.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: It was an okay concept, but if you're gonna run a dirt race, run into the dirt track.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: Eldora.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: Bring back Eldora.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Like if you're gonna run a dirt race, run out of a dirt track.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Don't don't put dirt on a track.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: I I I like the concept of it.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: Or bring it to Knoxville.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Well, they had the trucks there for a couple years, but I know.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: That turned into a disaster.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: It was bad.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: I remember that race pretty well.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: That in it took like six overtimes on that race.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Something, yeah.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: But speaking of the Cars Tour race, this was the first time that the Cars Tour had brought its full show to the Nashville Fairgrounds to be with the pro late models and the late model stock cars.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: I just so happened to luckily be there.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: And even with the mufflers on the cars, they they still made a good bit of noise, actually, which I was surprised with.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: Um 2024 track champion Dawson Sutton got around uh Ev McKnight and went on to win the pro late model feature, and Caden Quapple secured the late model stock car feature victory for junior motorsports after a late race caution for Landon Huffman's spin, sadly, in that great Texas Roadhouse playing scheme.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Um, but that allowed Quapple to get by Parker Eamon on the following restart.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Uh Dale Jr., meanwhile, in uh Bass Pro Shops, number eight late model stock car, uh did absolutely nothing in the first half of this race.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: He was just there to be there.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he was there to be there, and then he realized that his car was actually good.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Started all the way back in 21st, but even though he was only 20th at the halftime break, he managed to finish 12th.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: So good job, Dale Jr.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: And good job, Caden Quappel, for winning the race.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Golf clap, golf clap for sure.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: But it was it was all such clean racing.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, between the two features, you had 225 total apps.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Not one time did they need a tow truck.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, I don't know how that was possible.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's very impressive.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: But some some great racing I have to witness as part of the near sell-up crowd.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, they can keep the fairgrounds open despite all the opposition locals.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: The ops.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Um, getting back to NHRA now, top feeling pro stock drivers.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, for one, they were obviously hungry to score a Winter National's victory and secure one of those 75th anniversary diamond bollies.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: But funny car had its own extra motivation.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, the Winter Nationals was the 1000th funny car race all time, dating back to the NHRA finals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, back in 1966, and of course that 1000th funny car race also came with its own special trophy in addition to the Diamond Wally.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: So a lot of hardware on the line.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: But the big story in Pomona, California, for hmm, for anybody that knows, uh, is rain for no surprise.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, it I guess it wasn't as bad as last fall with the NHR finals just completely getting ruined out.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: But Sunday eliminations, they got moved up an hour, but there was just so many rounds of just sprinkles and rain.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: It took all the way, pretty much all the way up right against the 8 p.m.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: curfew to get everything in.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: But it was an all KB Titan final in Pro Stock as Greg Anderson defeated teammate and reigning world champion Dallas Glenn with a 6505 at 209.88 miles per hour to score his first win of the season.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: His record time, 17th victory at Pomoto.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: That's a lot, and his 113th career win in Pro Stock.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: The 17 track victories ties Anderson with John Forrest for the most in NHRA history, and with eight wins of the Winter Nationals, that mark ties Bob Glinton for the most in pro stock history.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: So another great win there, but in top fuel, it was Tony Stewart back on top as he beat Justin Ashley in the final round with a 3.683 at 332.51 miles an hour to get his first win of the season, first of Pomona, just his third career top fuel win after his runner-up finish at the Winter Nationals last year.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: Um it's also Elite Motorsports first win as a top fuel operation, too.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: Um, and then of course, in the final of the 1000th funny car race, it would be Tony Stewart racing.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: Matt Hagen taking the victory.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: So Tony Stewart, he won as a driver and he won as an owner this past week.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: Tony Stewart must be pretty proud of himself this weekend, I must say.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Yes, for sure.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: Um, but Hagen beat uh Phoenix winner Ron Caps with a 3.876 at 330.39 miles per hour for his first win of the year, eighth win at Pomona and the 56th win of his career.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: He also won the Mission 2 Fast To Tasty challenge on Saturday.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: So, I mean, it I it's pretty much nothing short of perfect, just about for all of Tony Stewart racing, and even Tony Stewart, even though he doesn't drive for Tony Stewart Racing, but he owns it, so close enough.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: Uh Tomato Smato.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: But NHRA returns uh not that long actually, only like 10 days.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: At least we don't gotta wait like a month.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Returns April 24th to the 26th, but the only four-wide event of the season, we went we went from three four wides to just one now, sadly.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: But it's the NHRA four wide nationals at Z Max Dragway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Too bad I can't be there.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: But I mean, I'm saying the same thing about Talladegas, so for sure.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: That sucks.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: But Bristol, Bristol, Bristol, Bristol.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: Attendance.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: That's what Bristol was this weekend.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: Snoozefests.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: Yes, just snooze fest all around in the truck series, man.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: Caden the honeycut.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: He won me the poll.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: And uh it took off for like a whole two laps until Chris Neckis got around him won stage one, uh, led for a good chunk of this race.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Um, Frankie Muniz in the Malcolm the Middle scheme.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Nice scheme.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Too bad he got stuck in the middle of a big wreck.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: Literally, he was he was part of the big one, unfortunately.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: The scheme was pretty good though.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: I like it.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: I like I like the meme they did with it.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: It's kind of a good play, and I'm not gonna lie.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: Um, then Ben Rhodes was in control one stage two, but he had to deal with his engine continuing to keep turning on and off.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: It's like my cat trying to play with a light switch or something, but he eventually ended up finishing 11th.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: Coreyheim.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: It looked like he was gonna win this race late and collect the half a million dollar bonus for winning all three races of the triple truck challenge, and then Christian Eckis just turns left.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: Christian Seckis said no.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: And that takes out Caden Honeycutt and Lane Riggs, so uh not not great for either of us.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that that was a tragic, tragic night right there.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: That was very tragic, but Kyle Bush had his own issues with his truck refiring, so he I mean he couldn't even keep pace car speed, so um not not great there, but at least he didn't finish like 30th.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: True.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Unlike me.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: But Chris Rebell ends up winning this race somehow.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: He had his truck sideways towards the end of the race.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: It looked like he was gonna wreck everybody else or something.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, he was it was like he was driving a sprint car again, but he beats Chandler Smith for the win.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: It's his first win in the truck series since 2017.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: That's a World Cup series.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: That's a long time.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: Almost nine, well, nine years, damn.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: Um Gio Rogero ends up in third, Ross Chastain in fourth, and Christian Eckis somehow ends up finishing fifth.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: I'm surprised there weren't any helmets thrown at him.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: Hello.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: It's Bristol.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: We need Tony Stewart energy back.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: Tony Stewart's at the drag trip.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: Tony Stewart's winning at the drag strip.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: But seven cup regulars in the truck race Friday night.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: That's the most ever.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: So you'd think you would think one of them would win, and that that's what happened, even though that's not really what should happen.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: But besides the point.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: Uh point standings.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: Stacy still leads, uh, leads Bernardo by 29, Evan by 50, Noah by 97, Haley by 134, and me by 145.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: So we're losing ground.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, I'm still up there, so I'll take it.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: I should have had a better finish, but you know.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: Chris Dick said, nah, I'm gonna read it.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: I picked Caden Honeycutt.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: If you couldn't tell, I won the poll and I led two laps, and then I got wrecked.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: But then again, Caden Honeycut's truck was like a fifth to tenth place truck all night, so whatever.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: It it wasn't a winning truck, but it was a lot better than a 31st place truck.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: So uh Evan, you picked Elaine Riggs.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: Finished 22nd.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: It looked like you were gonna challenge up with Chandler there and then just pfft.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, Chandler Smith or not Chandler Smith.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Christian Eckes decided to wreck the field.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: I don't know what Eggs was thinking right there.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: I really don't.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: Haley uh picked Ben Rhodes.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: Uh should have ended up finishing better than 11th, but I mean, finishing 11th when your engine keeps turning on and off is pretty good there.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, all things considered it's not bad.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: Stacy picking Chandler Smith.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Uh what a surprise there.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: Finishes second.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: Uh still holds the points lead.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: Bernardo Tough Night with uh Grant Anfinger finished in 27th, and Noah with once again with Justin Haley finished 15th.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: I don't know how to feel about Ram.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: I don't either.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: Like, it's just like it's it's their first year, so I'll kind of just laugh.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's their first year.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: It's just kind of just like they're there.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: They're there.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: They're there.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: They're not doing it.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: They're there, they're collecting data.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Uh Brendan Queen got a top 10 again.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: He's like just about the only Ram that's performing.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, Justin Haley's got top 15s, but it's still not great.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, I guess that's better than them all running 30th every week, so I don't know.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: Um O'Reilly's.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Not gonna lie, I do not know much of this race because I was at work, so hey, I was in Nashville over here, so I had better things to do.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: But I mean, I had to work.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: I had to get that McMoney.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: But William Suwalich wins the poll, and then it's Larson who dominated this race.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: He looked to win again at Bristol in the O'Reilly's car for the second year in a row.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: He swept the stages, led 230 of the 300 laps, like three-quarters of the race, basically.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: He was looking for the McMoney before late strategy had Connor Zilich in the lead.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: And I mean, despite Larson being on 97 lap fresher tires, it clearly didn't do anything.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: So yeah, that should be wake up the NASCAR and be like, hey, he should not win almost 100 old laps old tires.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: Hey, I think those tires were very hard.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: Probably harder than this tire right here that I have, even though it's not like I mean it's a good year tire.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: It's about the only similarity.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: It's actually just a rear tire off a dang NHRA topfield dragster, but close enough.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, but Zilich gets the O'Reilly series victory.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: It's his 12th series win, first at Bristol.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: Larson still finishes in second, Brent Cruz with a strong third, Justin Olgar finished fourth, and Carson Kwaple comes up in fifth, but as we know, it's not the best run that a Kwapel made Saturday night with Caden's victory in the Carstore race.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: And I mean, the O'Reilly's race was a lot worse than the car store race.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, by a mile.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Um, but our standings, uh, I lead Stacy by 46.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: Uh I lead Haley by 117.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: Bernardo and Evan are tied at 121 back, and Noah is 150 back.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: I picked Larson, he finished second, he led a bunch of laps, he didn't win.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, unfortunately.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: That's not the last time you're gonna hear that sentence.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: Well, okay, I wasn't the one who picked Larson in the cup race, but close enough.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: Um, Evan, you went and picked Taylor Gray, finished 10th.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: That's about it.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't have any notes on Taylor Gray this week.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: I just picked him and hoped he did good.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Hey, he did good.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: Uh Haley picked Brandon Jones, led a couple laps, but only finished 19th.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: Where was JGR besides Brand Cruz in this race?
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: Where did they all go?
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: Where did Sawalage go?
- 18:22unknown: I don't know.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: I don't even know.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: It's like he won the poll and then disappeared.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: He said, Ah, I'm gonna head out in.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: Stacy with Justin Olgar finished fourth.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: Won the dash for cash.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: Uh, so I guess Stacy got the McMoney.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: She had the McMoney this week.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, she used to she used to work at McDonald's, so it adds up.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: Um Bernardo with Sam Mayer ends up 20th.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: I just Sam Mayer is like a roller coaster over here.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, Sheldon Creed, ever since his win at Atlanta, is just like falling off a cliff.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, Sam Mayer is just like, we I go up and down.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: He's on the Raging Bull at Six Flies Garden America.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: It's like sometimes I finish sixth, sometimes I finish 20th, sometimes my power turns off.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: It's like you don't know.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: Um, and no, Jesse Love finished 12th.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: That that's about that's about all she wrote there.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: O'Reilly's just such a snoozefest man.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: Ugh.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: Honestly, you could say that about the whole weekend.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: But I I mean cup overtime finish, I guess.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: Did I show you the Chase Elliott wreck at the end?
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: I didn't see it.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Fox.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: Let's let me talk about Fox real quick.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: Fuck Fox.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: For real.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: Can we please get can we please just not have Fox broadcasting?
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: Okay, hear me out though.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: I had to find this on Twitter.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Apparently on the last lap, Chase Elliott got loose and got wrecked by Ty Dylan, spun across a track with a on the lap final lap.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: They let him f let him race, I'll give him that.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: But no coverage of that wreck even happening.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: That's why Chase Elliott's finished so bad.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: Tough.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: Fox, you suck.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: And then all and then Harvick and Boy are always talking about Mike Joy.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: It's like, come on now.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: Get him out of the booth.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: Get him out.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: I'd rather just have a I'd rather just have a Fox booth with just Mike Joy.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: And Larry McCarnels, yes.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: That would feed families.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: Just leave them all.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: I mean, what what do what do we think is worse?
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: The the the Fox Cup booth or the FS1 truck booth?
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: Because they're both very bad.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: I would say FS1 booth, but not by much.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: Only thing that's winning them is Mike Joy.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: That's the only thing the Cup booth has, Mike Joy.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: But Cup, I mean, we we knew coming in, Goodyear had the new tire setup.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: We thought, oh okay, at least we got Cup to save us.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: No.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: No.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: Cup did not do it.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: Them tires were very hard.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: Again.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: As they were all weekend in every series.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Can we can we not can we just bring back the 2024 spring Bristol race?
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: Please.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: But just make those tires like 10% harder.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Gee, yeah, just barely hard.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: Five to ten percent harder.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: Just barely harder.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: Just put in like five extra psi and we're good.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: So but Blaney was the dominant car on the long running practice, led this race on the pole.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: Larson swept the stages and dominated much of this race as well.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: They both they both combined to lead 474 of I guess the 505 laps because apparently this terrible race had an overtime finish somehow, but that's still almost 94% of the race.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: But the about the about the only thing that I'm sure kept the Bristol fans awake was the Kyle Bush and Riley Herbst feud that was occurring.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: I was just about to bring that up.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that feud was something.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: Class classic Bristol Riley.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: But late in the race, strategy, aka branded as we're staying out for track position because we know these tight.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Don't matter.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: Including Ty Kibbs, and he held it for the final twenty-five laps, including through another caution, which is what actually set up the overtime to win his first cup series race in his 131st start.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: Finally, took you long enough.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: I was I was not I was not familiar with three game Ty Gibbs.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: Real.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: I I will stop the hate watch.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: No, no, no more hate watch, sadly.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: I will still call you Tylenol Gibbs.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: I don't care.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: I want some peanut butter crackers.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: If you know, you know.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: Hey, he hey, he got his peanut butter crackers for Lance Peanut butter.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: He got him from Chase Briscoe.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: From Lance Peanut butter crackers.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: Speaking of, I actually had some Lance peanut butter crackers uh on Sunday when I was driving home from Nashville.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: Those are pretty good.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: That scheme is pretty peak, I can't lie.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: That scheme that scheme's pretty peak, and them the peanut butter crackers are pretty good.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: Pretty good.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: I guess I guess it must have been good fortune, but I would have thought that Briscoe would have won with the sponsorship, but here we are, I guess.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: Hey, someone at least someone with peanut butter crackers won the race.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: Somebody wanted peanut butter crackers more, I guess.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: Um Blaney comes home in second by just uh 0.055 seconds.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: That's the closest margin of victory at Bristol since April of 1991.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: I mean, it was like I was seeing Ty Gibbs uh on the high side, like when I watched the replay of the finish, and it's like, oh my god, it's Atlanta and and two dives or one, and it's just like oh yeah, it's Bristol.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: But exciting finish, I guess.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, still terrible race.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: That's the one review factor of this race is the finish.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: And well, I mean the cowboys rally was kind of followed.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: Also, SVG, you we we uh we need to talk SVG.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: SVG, what what happened today?
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: What happened?
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: Oi, bro, if I don't know, mate.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, I was on the hotline.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: I was kicking my rugby football around.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: Anywho, sorry for getting sidetracked, tell.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: I had to mention that.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: I thought that was too funny.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: It's fine.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: Um, but this win with Ty Gibbs, it's the first win for the 54 car in the cup series since Lenny Pond at Talladega in 1978.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: Leave it to Ty Gibbs.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Leave it leave it to Ty Gibbs.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: Leave it to Peanut Butter Cracker Man.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: Yes, for sure.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: Larson ends up finishing third.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: Uh how did Tyler Reddick finish fourth?
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: I had heard nothing about Reddick all race.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Why why is why is Reddick good on short tracks?
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: Like, I get he's probably gonna win the championship at this rate, but like what are we doing?
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: He's supposed to finish like 28th every single short track.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: Literally.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: What are we doing?
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: Like, there were there was a small point in this race, late in this race, when Reddick could have won.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: Imagine Redick getting his fifth win of the year, but it's at Bristol.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and we're not even too bad.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: And we go to Kansas next week.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: Are you kidding me?
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: He's probably gonna win his fifth race next week, for all we know.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: Honestly, JG JGR might win that weekend.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: It it it's gonna be a Toyota.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: It's either gonna be a Toyota or Larson's finally gonna remember how to win.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: That's the that's gonna be for Friday's episode.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: That we're gonna pass it.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: Stay tuned for Friday's episode.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, Chase Briscoe completes the top five.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: Uh he was actually sponsored by Peanut Butter Cracker, but Ty Gibbs stole him, apparently.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: He also stole him from Larson and Blaney, who, yeah, whatever.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: Um, but standings-wise.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: Stacey uh leads me by 13 points.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: I barely narrowed up that lead.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: You'll see why in a second.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: Uh leads Bernardo by 77, Haley by 82, uh, Evan by uh let me check here.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: Uh 184.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Noah by 199.
- 25:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: I I don't think you really want that one in front of that.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll be okay with 88, but one eighty eight.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: Hamlin, I need you to feed family this week.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: That's all I gotta say.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, you picked Hamlin and he finished ninth.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: That's about all he did.
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: I thought he was gonna do better than this.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: I really should I really should have picked Gibbs.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: I really was thinking about it too.
- 26:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: See, I was I was thinking about Gibbs with all of his momentum that he's had recently, and it's like, you know, I could pick Larson, but it's like if I want to pick Gibbs, like now's the time to pick Gibbs.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we can't.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: And I pick Gibbs.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: And he won.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's because I hate the peanut butter crabs.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: But yeah.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: I pick Gibbs, he wins.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: Haley, uh, I give her Larson, he finishes third.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: Leads 284 laps.
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: I mean, it l it felt like it was gonna be last year's brewster race all over again, but here we are, I guess.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: Ty Gibbs finally wins a race.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: Uh Stacey, uh, to absolutely nobody's surprised, picks Ryan Blaine, who finishes second, leads 190 laps, uh, gets the fastest lap.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: Who cares?
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: He got that discount discount tire sponsorship.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: You gotta be gotta be fast.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: Discount tire.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: Uh good year.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: Can we get a discount on these tires?
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: Because they're so terrible.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Literally, they're fucking they're like the damn uh Lionheart brand.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: The Chinese the Chinese tires.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: Chinese tires, hard tires, boring tires.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: Nothing about my Dodge Ram tires.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: My good year on my Michelin tires.
- 27:23unknown: Yeah.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: Bernardo with CRISPR Bell.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: What happened to Crisper Bell?
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: It's like he was he won the truck race.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: And then I guess he must have had the truck series looseness from the end of the race set up on his cup car.
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: Cause then he hits the wall and does nothing.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then he got in the wreck with Kyle Bush.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, ends up 27.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: And uh Noah, I I I told him uh before he made his pick, he originally he initially picked Algar, and I'm like, are you sure?
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: Because he's in a substitute role, and he's like, sure, and then Bowman was cleared, and I'm like, Alright, you're picking Bowman now, and he's like, whatever, and then Bowman gets caught up in that wreck, finishes dead last.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: Although it wasn't Bowman's fault.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: Take a guess, it was oi, bro.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: It was it was SVG in the wrong in the wrong country.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Literally, he was he he rever reverted back to 2025 S VG right there.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: That was bad.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: Sometimes SVG is like, yes.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: Sometimes he's a great rugby player, sometimes he's pretty shit.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: Sometimes very good, sometimes very shit.
- 28:27unknown: Yeah.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: But best this way I describes SVG sometimes.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: But we got NASCAR Cupett and uh O'Reilly's in Kansas this weekend.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: Uh sadly, I cannot go.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: Once again, like last year.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: Um, because my grandparents are out of town this weekend, sadly, but that's okay.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: Plus, we got uh indie car on the streets of Long Beach, and uh it's also Evan's birthday on Saturday.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: It is my birthday.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: We both work.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm so sad, but oh well.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: So boring.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: Hey, I'll have to send you some peanut butter crackers.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll take some peanut butter crackers and come over Friday.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: How about that?
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'll take my payment peanut butter crackers.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: Peanut butter crackers.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna show I'm gonna show up at your work on my lunch.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna show up on my lunch break, give you some peanut butter crackers, turn around and go back to the body.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: Honestly, I would be okay with that.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: I would I would mess up some peanut butter crackers at work.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: Sometimes I'd be hella hungry.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna lie.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: I'd be sealing some chicken nuggets back there.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: I'd be so real too.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: You'd be like, oh, peanut butter crackers accidentally knocks ice gibbs in the air in the front.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: This episode's gone off the off the rails.
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's fine.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: It's better than the Bristol races this week.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: Literally.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: This podcast is probably better than the Bristol race.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, at least we'll stay awake during this.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: Hey, it may have gone off the rails, but I mean the tires never came off because they were so damn hard.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: So Anywho, y'all.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but we'll preview the motorsports action here on Friday.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: Can we please get a better race?
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: For the love of God.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: I've been tired, I've been tired of these damn short tracks.
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: But uh, that's all we got for today's episode of the Throttle Floor Podcast.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: Make sure you tune in and listen and watch and download on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube.
