Lamenting the End of French Culture · The M&M Experience

• 0:01
Speaker 1: This is personal to me. Our French club, that was
• 0:05
Speaker 1: like 15 hopped up kids from Crossland High and Camp Springs, Maryland.
• 0:09
Speaker 1: We went in 1975. And then our French teacher got
• 0:15
Speaker 1: sick and was going to make the same trip with
• 0:17
Speaker 1: his students. But I was already like a junior at college.
• 0:20
Speaker 1: The phone rings in the dorm. And he says, Mark,
• 0:24
Speaker 1: it's John and Kerry. Can you? Can you take the
• 0:27
Speaker 1: kids to France? I said, I beg your pardon? I
• 0:29
  Speaker 1: got to– I'm 20, I guess. I got to be
• 0:32
Speaker 1: a chaperone. There were others, thank God. And I took
• 0:36
Speaker 1: a bunch of kids from the school where he taught.
• 0:39
Speaker 1: So I've been– trips at least that I've made, been
• 0:42
Speaker 1: there five or six times. And it's easy to bag
• 0:44
Speaker 1: on France and politically deserve it. But the history, the beauty–
• 0:49
Speaker 1: The culture, it's just, it's a gem in the crown
• 0:53
Speaker 1: of the world. And to see it on fire breaks
• 0:55
Speaker 1: my heart. And my byline today is that those images
• 0:59
Speaker 1: are an ad for every Republican running in every corner
• 1:04
  Speaker 1: of America.
• 1:04
Speaker 2: I'm just mystified at how everybody is lying about what's
• 1:08
Speaker 2: actually taking place in the streets of France. Here's the
• 1:11
Speaker 2: cover of the New York Post. And I'm holding it
• 1:13
Speaker 2: up for you here if you're watching on X. And
• 1:15
Speaker 2: we love to stream. M & M experience every day
• 1:19
Speaker 2: on X at Gallagher or at my Gallagher.
• 1:21
Speaker 1: Whoops. You flash that and I'll go retweet it and
• 1:25
Speaker 1: people can do it.
• 1:26
Speaker 2: So you can go, you can watch right now on X.
• 1:28
Speaker 2: Follow me at Mike Gallagher. Of course, always follow Mark
• 1:31
Speaker 2: at Mark Davis. And every day we stream live. Well,
• 1:35
Speaker 2: actually we don't stream the video. Do we come to
• 1:37
Speaker 2: think of it? Do we stream the video? I can't
• 1:39
Speaker 2: look at it right now. Oh, okay. So we do
• 1:41
Speaker 2: stream the video on, on X. Yeah. Oh, I thought–
• 1:44
Speaker 2: I was thinking it was just audio. Okay.
• 1:45
  Speaker 3: Anyway.
• 1:46
Speaker 1: I'm looking at you and me right now. We look good.
• 1:48
Speaker 2: So here's the headline, New York Post. France burns more
• 1:52
Speaker 2: than 1,800 arrested in radical left riots. Now, keep that
• 1:56
Speaker 2: in mind. Radical left riots.
• 1:57
  Speaker 1: Thank you.
• 1:58
  Speaker 2: Synagogue ransacked. Synagogue.
• 2:02
  Speaker 1: Yep.
• 2:02
Speaker 2: They're targeting the Jews. We see, of course, red and
• 2:05
Speaker 2: green Palestinian flags everywhere. Luxury goods stores are looted. But
• 2:10
Speaker 2: then in the description, it says the following. French protests
• 2:15
Speaker 2: over education and the cost of living.
• 2:19
Speaker 1: Stop. Mark, the New York Post? The Post said this
• 2:23
  Speaker 1: in there?
• 2:24
Speaker 2: Yes, the front page of the New York Post. Protests
• 2:27
Speaker 2: over education and the cost of living. This isn't about
• 2:30
Speaker 2: education or the cost of living. What the heck are
• 2:33
Speaker 2: they talking about? Why is everybody lying about why these
• 2:38
Speaker 2: rioters are burning down synagogues?
• 2:40
Speaker 1: Because they have to. Because the truth would show you
• 2:43
Speaker 1: that France is an example of of a country that
• 2:46
Speaker 1: has not paid enough attention to its borders, not paid
• 2:48
Speaker 1: enough attention to protecting its culture. They have allowed hordes
• 2:52
Speaker 1: and floods of hostile migrants in with the obvious aim
• 2:57
Speaker 1: of destroying French civilization, as they will do here, as
• 3:02
Speaker 1: they are attempting to do here. It's just the beginning
• 3:05
Speaker 1: ripples of it. You know, our cities are not all
• 3:08
Speaker 1: aflame with Marxists and Islamists yet anymore. But they will
• 3:13
Speaker 1: be if we are not attentive.
• 3:15
Speaker 2: Well, you're so right. The reason I guess they're not
• 3:18
Speaker 2: touching it is that it's all about the borders. Everything
• 3:22
Speaker 2: is about everything Trump has been saying. And now he's
• 3:25
  Speaker 2: barnstorming the country.
• 3:26
  Speaker 1: Yep.
• 3:27
Speaker 2: Like the warrior he is with his supposedly, you know, 3%
• 3:32
  Speaker 2: approval rating.
• 3:32
Speaker 1: Nobody likes him. He's up to three? I missed that.
• 3:36
Speaker 2: He had a surge yesterday. It was 2.5%. Now he's
• 3:40
Speaker 2: at 3% approval. Somehow all those people lining up for
• 3:45
Speaker 2: hours and hours to get in to see him at
• 3:46
Speaker 2: these stadiums, I guess they didn't get the memo. He's
• 3:49
Speaker 2: very unpopular, right? I'm seeing all the smart kids doing
• 3:53
Speaker 2: stories about how Republican candidates are distancing themselves from him.
• 3:58
Speaker 2: He's so unpopular. He's so unpopular. And yet when he's
• 4:02
Speaker 2: on the campaign trail for these candidates— He keeps saying,
• 4:05
Speaker 2: you're watching France? You want that here? You want to
• 4:08
Speaker 2: see what's going to happen here if we let them win?
• 4:11
Speaker 2: And he is absolutely right. You know, I was thinking about,
• 4:14
Speaker 2: I want to run Brit Hume's analysis by you, and
• 4:17
Speaker 2: it applies to Texas, and Mr. TV star. Hollywood Davis
• 4:21
Speaker 2: over here would be bouncing around from Will Kane to
• 4:24
Speaker 2: Chris Cuomo. I mean, you're all things Texas politics. So
• 4:28
Speaker 2: nobody is better equipped to react to Brit Hume's rather
• 4:33
Speaker 2: nasty analysis claiming that, well, Tallarico seems like a pretty
• 4:38
Speaker 2: nice guy. You know, Trump's attacks really aren't landing anywhere.
• 4:43
Speaker 2: Trump insists on calling him Talafrico. And he just strikes
• 4:48
Speaker 2: me as, you know, he's a seminary guy and he's
• 4:50
Speaker 2: a nice person. Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
• 4:53
Speaker 1: Did Britt go there? Britt went there. Let's talk about nice. No,
• 4:59
Speaker 1: you finish your thing and then I'll break. I'll break
• 5:01
Speaker 1: it to words mean things. Go ahead and finish.
• 5:03
Speaker 2: Let me give you my analysis of why Britt Hume
• 5:05
Speaker 2: just just gave Talafrico's campaign such a big gift. Why
• 5:10
Speaker 2: Democrats are now salivating over Brit Hume. I saw the
• 5:13
Speaker 2: headlines last night. Oh, long term Fox News, longtime Fox
• 5:17
Speaker 2: News analyst throws, you know, a lifeline to the Tallarico campaign.
• 5:23
  Speaker 1: True.
• 5:24
Speaker 2: These are Republican establishment types who loathe Trump's style and
• 5:29
Speaker 2: they just wish he'd be more diplomatic.
• 5:31
  Speaker 3: Yes.
• 5:32
Speaker 2: Britt Hume wants Donald Trump to be more like George W.
• 5:36
  Speaker 1: Bush.
• 5:37
Speaker 2: That's what they want. And Trump's never going to do that.
• 5:40
Speaker 2: And frankly, we would be surprised if Trump didn't call
• 5:44
  Speaker 2: him Talafrico.
• 5:45
  Speaker 1: Exactly.
• 5:46
Speaker 2: I mean, but Britt Hume is surprised. The smart kids
• 5:49
Speaker 2: never get over it. They can never get over it.
• 5:53
Speaker 2: So if Britt Hume, OK, so words mean things. What
• 5:57
Speaker 2: does Britt say? That he seems like a nice young man. Yes.
• 6:01
Speaker 1: The definition of nice is affable, relatable, you know, smiling.
• 6:05
Speaker 1: He's clean cut. Good for absolutely. But if I hear
• 6:09
Speaker 1: one more person invoke that he's running on articles of
• 6:12
Speaker 1: faith or evangelism or seminarianism.
• 6:16
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 6:16
Speaker 1: But what from church from what church? Because it sure
• 6:19
Speaker 1: ain't Christianity. God's OK with abortion. Jesus is ambivalent. If
• 6:24
Speaker 1: you chop your kid's genitals off.
• 6:25
Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. But Brit
• 6:30
Speaker 2: might be right in terms of that lands with people,
• 6:34
Speaker 2: that he's a nice young man. Because that's all we
• 6:38
Speaker 2: care about are optics. All we care about is the package.
• 6:41
Speaker 2: All we care about is what does it look like.
• 6:43
Speaker 2: We're TV folks. We love to see what the image is.
• 6:49
Speaker 2: We don't care about substance or policy or ideology. We
• 6:53
Speaker 2: care about how somebody comes across.
• 6:54
  Speaker 3: Oh.
• 6:55
Speaker 2: Abdul El-Sayed was nice to me at LaGuardia. Nice guy.
• 6:59
Speaker 1: He and Jesse Waters got a bromance on TV there
• 7:02
Speaker 1: for a few minutes.
• 7:03
Speaker 2: And so, you know, but then look, you've got to
• 7:06
Speaker 2: look at what they stand for. Can James Tallarico get elected?
• 7:10
Speaker 2: I watched Molly Hemingway last night on TV say, look,
• 7:14
Speaker 2: Tallarico's policies wouldn't fly anywhere, much less Texas. She basically said— You.
• 7:19
Speaker 1: Think he couldn't get elected in New York or California?
• 7:22
Speaker 2: Well, maybe in a blue state. But what I think
• 7:24
Speaker 2: her point was, if he was on the ticket in
• 7:28
Speaker 2: any one of a number of American states— He wouldn't
• 7:32
Speaker 2: get any traction at all. And she's saying Texas is
• 7:36
Speaker 2: the last place he should be able to win.
• 7:39
  Speaker 1: Correct.
• 7:40
Speaker 2: But, you know, and I agree with her. I mean,
• 7:42
Speaker 2: I believe that. We're two weeks away. We're going to
• 7:46
Speaker 2: find out. You know what it is?
• 7:48
Speaker 1: Look, we know. We have brains. We have eyes. We
• 7:52
Speaker 1: have ears. We have history. We know that an anti-gun, anti-meat,
• 7:56
Speaker 1: anti-oil cheerleader for child sex change is We cannot win
• 8:01
Speaker 1: in Texas. That's earth logic, as I'm fond of saying.
• 8:04
Speaker 1: But yet, in this odd and riled up time... We wonder,
• 8:13
Speaker 1: there's a little, and listen, I'm not immune to this,
• 8:15
Speaker 1: because truly anything is possible. Is an amazing, strange shift
• 8:19
Speaker 1: of the political winds possible? It's not impossible. It's thoroughly implausible.
• 8:25
Speaker 1: We're just going to have to wait and see how
• 8:26
Speaker 1: it goes and pray to God that Texas remains Texas
• 8:29
Speaker 1: and the voters continue to do what they seem to
• 8:31
Speaker 1: be in the mood to do. I mean, two years ago,
• 8:33
Speaker 1: Ted Cruz easily dispatched Colin Allred. You know, two years ago,
• 8:37
Speaker 1: Trump thumped Kamala Harris by 14. So there's no evidence
• 8:41
Speaker 1: that Texas has changed. until that evidence hits us in
• 8:44
Speaker 1: the head in two weeks, if it does, but I
• 8:46
Speaker 1: don't believe that it will.
• 8:47
Speaker 2: I had a real spiritual conversation with a colleague, actually
• 8:52
Speaker 2: my boss, I don't mind sharing this. Phil Boyce and
• 8:55
Speaker 2: I were talking this morning, as we often do, about
• 8:58
Speaker 2: the business, the company, how things are going. Is there
• 9:01
Speaker 2: a malaise with voters, with the audience? Are people just
• 9:06
Speaker 2: kind of collectively holding their breath? And Phil pointed out,
• 9:10
Speaker 2: And he's so right about this. He said, I had
• 9:11
Speaker 2: to learn this, sometimes the hard way, that we've got
• 9:14
Speaker 2: to have faith. We've got to have faith in God.
• 9:16
Speaker 2: We've got to do our part. But sometimes challenging things happen,
• 9:21
Speaker 2: and God tests us with anxiety, with maybe bad things
• 9:26
Speaker 2: that have happened. I mean, we were talking a little
• 9:29
Speaker 2: bit about the Dennis Prager time slot at Salem. I mean,
• 9:33
Speaker 2: Dennis Prager has this catastrophic fall. Incidentally, Dennis is speaking now.
• 9:38
Speaker 1: Did you see him in Miami a few days ago
• 9:42
Speaker 1: as they wheeled him out and he held a crowd
• 9:45
Speaker 1: in the palm of his hand?
• 9:46
  Speaker 2: Finish.
• 9:46
Speaker 1: We'll talk about that in a second.
• 9:48
  Speaker 2: But finish.
• 9:49
Speaker 1: Oh, it was a great speech. I cried, too.
• 9:51
Speaker 2: I'm so sad. I was trying to get there and
• 9:53
Speaker 2: I had something come up and I couldn't go. But
• 9:55
Speaker 2: he said, look, you can't be a victim even when
• 9:58
Speaker 2: you really are. You cannot. exhibit victimhood even when you're
• 10:02
Speaker 2: a victim. And he goes, look, I fell and hit
• 10:04
Speaker 2: my head against the bathtub, he said, and I broke
• 10:06
Speaker 2: my neck and I'm a quadriplegic.
• 10:08
Speaker 1: He said, I envy paraplegics. Because at least they have
• 10:11
Speaker 1: the use of their arms and I don't. But you
• 10:13
Speaker 1: know what? I'm breathing without a ventilator. I'm here talking
• 10:17
Speaker 1: to you. I still have God. I still have my family.
• 10:20
Speaker 1: I still have my brain. I still have my voice.
• 10:22
Speaker 1: I mean, I can't tell the story right now.
• 10:25
  Speaker 2: I know. No, I know.
• 10:26
Speaker 1: But your point is, make the point about that.
• 10:29
Speaker 2: But it's a great point because bad things can happen
• 10:32
Speaker 2: in our lives. And God, it's all God's will. And
• 10:35
Speaker 2: we have to remember that. God already knows how the
• 10:38
Speaker 2: midterms are going to turn out. He knows what's going
• 10:40
Speaker 2: to happen after the midterms turn out, and we're going
• 10:43
Speaker 2: to find out. But big things continue to happen politically.
• 10:47
Speaker 2: I've got to take you to Ohio, Mark. Vivek Ramaswamy
• 10:52
Speaker 2: is battling with Amy Acton. Have you heard about the
• 10:55
Speaker 2: last ad that just dropped featuring Amy Acton's own mother?
• 10:59
Speaker 1: Oh, where she says don't vote for my daughter?
• 11:02
Speaker 2: Mark, I've got to play it. It's only 50 seconds.
• 11:04
  Speaker 3: Go.
• 11:04
  Speaker 2: Hit it.
• 11:04
Speaker 3: My name is Donna Arthur, and I'm Amy Acton's mother.
• 11:10
Speaker 3: I work at Children and Family Service Association, building one
• 11:15
Speaker 3: of the first two sexual abuse programs in America. I
• 11:19
Speaker 3: love my daughter, but when I saw her lying about
• 11:23
Speaker 3: her opponent, it's not easy for a mother to say this,
• 11:27
Speaker 3: but Amy has a serious problem. She is a liar.
• 11:31
Speaker 3: She lies about her past. She says she grew up
• 11:35
Speaker 3: living in a tent. None of that is true. She's
• 11:39
Speaker 3: lied her entire life. My daughter needs help, and she
• 11:44
Speaker 3: can't help you if she needs help herself. People can change,
• 11:49
Speaker 3: but first they have to tell the truth. And my
• 11:52
Speaker 3: daughter still isn't doing that. Don't vote for people who lie.
• 11:56
Speaker 3: Don't let her become your governor. If you think she'll
• 12:00
Speaker 3: make your life better, you're fooling yourself.
• 12:04
Speaker 2: It will only get worse.
• 12:05
  Speaker 1: Good Lord.
• 12:08
Speaker 2: I've been covering politics for nearly 50 years.
• 12:09
Speaker 1: I've never seen anything like that.
• 12:11
Speaker 2: I've never seen an ad like that in my life.
• 12:13
Speaker 1: I'd love to be a fly on the wall at
• 12:14
Speaker 1: Thanksgiving in that house.
• 12:16
Speaker 2: Well, but look at what is that? Not the October surprise.
• 12:20
  Speaker 2: A little bit.
• 12:22
Speaker 1: But it's funny because the other thing that does occur
• 12:24
Speaker 1: to me, though, we've all had embittered family situations. And
• 12:27
Speaker 1: I wonder if there's just some. bad blood of another
• 12:29
Speaker 1: type working there with mom. Yeah, but that's a campaign ad.
• 12:32
Speaker 1: To turn that into a campaign ad?
• 12:34
Speaker 2: Don't vote. My daughter needs help. She's a chronic liar.
• 12:39
Speaker 2: So please don't vote for people who lie to you.
• 12:41
Speaker 2: That's going to win some votes for Vivek Ramaswamy.
• 12:44
Speaker 1: Feeling good about Vivek.
• 12:46
Speaker 2: I like his chances in Ohio after that ad. Holy moly.
• 12:51
Speaker 2: And we wonder why people don't get into politics.
• 12:53
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 12:54
  Speaker 2: I can't imagine what's keeping anybody.
• 12:56
Speaker 1: I can't imagine what would keep anybody from today's podcast
• 12:59
Speaker 1: because just sitting here, I got a list of like
• 13:01
Speaker 1: four or five things I got to run by you.
• 13:03
  Speaker 1: And I haven't even touched it yet. I know I'm
• 13:05
Speaker 1: going to talk about some of them. Well, you know,
• 13:07
  Speaker 1: you know what?
• 13:08
Speaker 2: You want to know why people are mad at us
• 13:10
Speaker 2: about yesterday's Eminem extra?
• 13:11
  Speaker 1: Why?
• 13:12
Speaker 2: We did. We didn't get the Mark Davis take on the. crucifix,
• 13:16
Speaker 2: like exorcist style, falling off the wall and crushing the priest.
• 13:20
Speaker 1: I heard your segments on that, wondering, was that God?
• 13:23
Speaker 1: Was it the devil? Was that a message for all
• 13:24
Speaker 1: of us? As this priest in Ecuador is talking about
• 13:26
Speaker 1: how life is fleeting, you never can tell when something's
• 13:29
  Speaker 1: going to happen.
• 13:29
Speaker 2: And then boom, boom. Will you weigh in today for me, please? Sure,
• 13:34
  Speaker 2: happy to.
• 13:34
Speaker 1: I'll find something. Not knowing what to say has never
• 13:37
Speaker 1: stopped us. I mean, come on.
• 13:38
  Speaker 3: Exactly.
• 13:43
Speaker 2: That's the small bit of it.
• 13:45
  Speaker 1: Exactly right.
• 13:46
Speaker 2: Minor bump in the road. I love you. Happy Tuesday.
• 13:48
Speaker 1: Mike's going to find something to say on the radio
• 13:50
Speaker 1: as soon as we're done at 10. And then M &
• 13:52
Speaker 1: M Extra in the podcast universe, the live stream on YouTube,
• 13:55
Speaker 1: straight up at 11 Texas time, noon Eastern. That's YouTube
• 13:59
  Speaker 1: M & M Extra.
