- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: I have invented a product that has been duplicated, replicated all across the country.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: This is an actual part.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_00]: This is not a s*** million that you did or did your father's horses.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: This is an actual part of that people buy that people could get.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: But she made over s***.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: million dollars in her business and she don't want to say.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: I was just figuring out how to pair essential oils and what would be a benefit to combating odor, BV, yeast infections, things that women dealt with silently.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: I was making those products and as soon as I got fired, it took off really quickly.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: People would really be on my website to the point where it would crash.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: I want to something big and I think that guy gave me the gift to heal.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: At the early age, so as soon as I was in touch with the gift that he gave me, I said, you know what?
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: Let me share this.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: The demand instantly was there.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: Spinless time doubting your ideas and more time implementing them.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: Don't wish.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: Just do it.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: Has there been a least side of entrepreneurship?
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: Of course.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: I had to fire my mama.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: What has been the biggest mistake you've made in business so far?

- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: So I wanna help you do the same thing.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: So text my book to six, four, six, six, eight, seven, four, one, five, two.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: I, let's go back to the video.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so welcome to another episode of Inside the Vote with Ash Cash, the greatest money mindset show on the planet.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: Listen, most people spend their lives chasing security today's guests turned down a guarantee paycheck and bet on herself with less than $100 and a problem nobody was talking about.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: $67.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: $67.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: $67 dollars to be exact.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: While most college students were worried about grades and job offers, she was hand-making products selling them on Facebook and building a brand from her dorm room.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: What started?
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: As a personal frustration became one of the fastest growing feminine wellness companies in the country, generating more than, believe this out,
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: It sales as serving hundreds of thousands of customers, but this conversation isn't really about feminine care.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's about conviction, it's about building a movement.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: In a category, people say with two taboo to market, it's about turning customers into millions of dollars in creating wealth from a problem most entrepreneurs overlook.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: If you ever wonder how to build a brand from nothing, create products,
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: people obsess over and scale without waiting for permission.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: Stay locked into the very end because Jolisa Seymour is about to give us the blueprint ladies and gentlemen round the applause for the eighth figure.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: Now let me know and say, but listen, so my editor is really going to
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: million dollars in her business and she don't want to say it, she don't want me to say it, which is cool.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: Just know it's eight figures.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: So do the math.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's eight figures.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so look, Black woman, I'm so proud of you.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: And the reason why I'm saying that like for real for real is because like we live in a patriarchy like society.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think that and I know why it's a patriarchy school society is because
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: men who know they don't really have the powers women who have the power men want to pretend like they have the power because most men usually have a woman that supported them like most of them can you know and I'm you know the mothers the sisters the wives the girl who like it's always a woman that is supporting
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: And so to see, like, there's a rise of women just taking charge of doing their big ones like they're really just like, like, like, I'm so proud, like I'm so proud.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: And to be able to build and we're going to get into that, right?
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: Because this is the other piece of it is that this is an actual product.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: Right like like technically you know the the proctor and gammals of the world like the Johnson's in job like this is actual part this is not like Again, believe this out.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: This is not Million that you did all digital products right.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: This is not Million that you did on You know courses like this is an actual product that people buy that people could get yes
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: But those who don't know.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: Now you know.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: Now you know.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: Now you know.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: But who is in your words?
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: Who is Jelisa Seymour?
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: Jelisa Seymour is an innovator.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm creative.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: I have invented a product that has been duplicated, replicated all across the country.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen my products on Alibaba.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, wow, this came from my mind, came from my brain.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: And when I think about what I've developed and what I created, I understood that it was bigger than me.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: When I understood that the product that I made, it didn't come from an idea that I had, it was planted inside of me.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: Because I didn't go to school for this, I was going to school for organizational communication.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: And so I created this idea and my senior year of college.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: And so when I created it, I said, you know what?
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: I know that there are so many other women that could benefit from a product like this.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: Because I knew it wasn't just a methane, but no one was able to talk about feminine hygiene and products and things that you want to keep close to your chest.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: So as soon as I felt open enough to talk about it, everyone was like, oh my gosh, I feel the same way too.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: So when I realized that this was a community effort, I said, you know what, let me spread this gift.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: Because the close are keep it to me.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: No one will be able to benefit from the gift that God gave me.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that God gave me the gift to heal at the early age.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: So as soon as I was in touch with the gift that he gave me, I said, you know what, let me share this.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: And as soon as I started to share it, it blossomed quickly.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: So talk about that moment, right?
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: Talk about what led to you.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: The founder and CEO of Salt Exo explained and it's a feminine hygiene product.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: Talk about that moment where you needed the product.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't available and the light bulb moment that said you should create it.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so my step that he is a roster, right?
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: So he believes in herbal medicine, he believes in holistic healing.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: And so when I was in high school, he used to give me African soap bars.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: The African soap bars, I fell in love with them.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: But they were too aggressive for my Volvo, right?
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: So I was like, you know what?
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: Every product that I see on the shelf right now, it feels like it's disrupting my pH balance.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like it's throwing me off.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't feel like something I could confidently use and feel like I could use it consistently for a long period of time and not feel irritated.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: So I said, you know what?
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: I want to mix the holistic care with something that's gentle enough to care for my journey.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I started doing research and I understood the value and the importance of essential oils.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: So once I learned about essential oils and how they can heal the body, I said, what the heck?
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: Let me put this into some soap.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like, let's stop playing games.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: So I started doing research.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: I got a few books.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: I went to a local herbal shop next, uh, like it was a few miles down from me.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I started just experimenting.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: I would do like small doses in mind you.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have a degree in how to be a chemist or anything like this.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: This is why I say this is God given.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't get this from anybody.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: These are formulas I came up with by myself in my dorm room.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: So I was just figuring out how to pair essential oils and what would be a benefit to combating odor, BV, yeast infections, things that women dealt with silently.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: So as soon as I figured out essential oils
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: I combined them and when I received the reviews as soon as I started giving out samples, they were like, what did you put in this?
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: It was to the point where I would go to school, give out samples and people would be knocking on my classroom door like, do you have soap today?
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's the soap lady.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like, do you have soap today?
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: And so that's when I knew, oh, I'm on to something.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm honest with that point so so so that's the origin of it.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you know, people are buying your product into, you know, from your dorm room, uh, you're selling a no face book at what point what you are entrepreneur prize now like like started business like what meant you would you just it was just like a gift from God.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: I said, you know what you should start.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I was a server at a restaurant, they let me go and they said that they couldn't explain the reason why the game made severance package and let me go, right?
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: And for me, that was my biggest blessing because a closed door was just meaning that there's a window open that I need to jump out of and Saltix was my window that I had to jump out of.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: And so as soon as I realized that of course I was discouraged because I was making the most money I had ever made I'm in college.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm making good money in tips.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I'm like saying like how could I Make something better you know like how much money can I make as a college student?
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I started to develop to develop Saltic so when I was like hold on.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: I might be I might be all the phone now because I was selling the soap bars for six dollars and six dollars is it cost for you to make it?
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe like $3, like it was the cost for me to make it was low, but the effort that it took and the knowledge it took, it was a lot that went into it because when you're making soap, I believe in energy.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have one I'm creating anything that my energy isn't involved in completely and I don't have a good heart posture towards it.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: So I knew what it was.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: If this is going towards someone's yoni, they're womb, I want to make sure that I am presently intentional.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: making sure that I'm making products that people will be proud of and that they would love.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: So I was making those products as soon as I got fired and it took off really quickly.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: Really quickly.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: I gave out samples to my neighbors, to my college friends and the demand instantly was there.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: And then, was it the demand that, you know, you like, how did you come up with the name?
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: Was it the demand that made you productize and start an official business?
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what point did you start this as an official business?
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I started as a business, but I was just weary because I had, I don't come from entrepreneurs.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: All of my grandfather was a teacher.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: My grandmother was a librarian.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: My mom was a radiologist.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: My dad was a carpenter.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't come from that.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: So this was a very
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: experience for me.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: All I knew was to work hard.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: And my mom engraved that into me when I was a young young girl.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: So as soon as I started to develop the products, I said, well, you know, when I want to make this a real thing, if I'm going to do what I want to go for it, I don't want to play around and make it a small deal.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: So as soon as I knew that the product was good, I started to make more of it.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: And as soon as people started to order, I was able to, because I was always really good with money and budgeting.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: So I didn't spend the money I earned on soap on things.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: I would put it right back into inventory.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: Every dollar every cent went right back into products and making the customer experience really good.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I would make little notes.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: I would go to Dollar Tree, get a pack of notes, and write, thank you so much for shopping with me.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: And so this day, people remember that.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I was shopping with you, and you were writing notes.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: individually on each package because I'm like y'all don't have to stop with me like y'all don't know me from a can of pain yeah yeah so um i think that's what really set it apart well what what what what what what what what what's the origin of the name what what what what where what is our salt exo come from
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: So salt was a nickname of mine, right?
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: I had a friend in high school, we were salt and pepper.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: But then I realized that wasn't really a purpose of salt.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I wanted, so there was a description of my friends and tell me a while ago about being the salt of the earth.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: And we just give everything flavor.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like salt gives things flavor.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I wanted to be able to just make impact.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: So when I realized the meaning of salt was much more than just a nickname, I was like, thank you God for that name.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: But it was originally a nickname.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: And then exo was with love.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: And you know something to just make you feel like you're getting the warm embrace.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: Sure for sure.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why I added the exo part.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_01]: But it was originally a nickname.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: What was the, the tip of point, right?
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: Because you, you currently run an eighth figure business.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: You've been, and I want to, and I want to fast forward, right?
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like, like, how do you build, like, do you have distribution or are you in stores?
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, how do you build that big of an empire, right?
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: But also, what was the tip of point?
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: What was that moment that, like, tip everything and made it say, all right, I'm here now.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I would say, I think it was year 2020.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: What year was COVID 2020?
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: 2020.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: COVID.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: I had about 150,000 soap bars that I had to make.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: And that was like, that's, that's to, yeah, like I started making maybe 400 bars of restock, then it went into 10 to 20,000 bars per restock.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: And that happened within a year span.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: So when that happened, I realized, oh, we're on to something like it's growing.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's super seeding anything that we have ever experienced before.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: And so I have my family on board.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: was it worth a mouth?
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it was worth a mouth.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: It was worth a mouth because I didn't have a social media manager.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't have any of that.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: No ad.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: I never paid for an ad until maybe three years ago.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: So this was all very new to me.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: Everything was worth a mouth.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: It spread very fast on Facebook.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_01]: So if you have a brand on Facebook, if you want a Facebook stick to Facebook, I don't know what's going on Facebook, but the word amount is crazy.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: So people started to tell their friends, their aunts, their teachers, and people would really be on my website to the point where it would crash.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_01]: And when I realized, oh, I can't even keep my website open for five minutes before it crashes, I want to something big.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it became bigger than me and oh, I just want to make soap.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, well, this is about to heal nation.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, like, this is about to be a really big deal.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: So when I realized that, I said, oh,
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: This is it I have hit the jackpot with this one.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, this is the one.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so 100 you have 150,000 orders that you have to fulfill.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_00]: What happened in 2020 that that continued to like tip it over.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that when people were home and we had time to sit with ourselves and discover the things that we like or the things that we might be curious about, we just dumped the money into it.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that people were just listening to people's opinions more, we were taking into account like, hey, like maybe what I was doing before may have not worked.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: So let me do something differently.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like, opinions were changing, perspectives were changing during that time.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: So they were more open.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: And so as soon as that happened, people were banging down the door like, hey, like when are you re-stocking this and even threatening us on Facebook, like real threats like if you don't, if you don't restock, I'm gonna pull up and I'm gonna take it from you, oh my hold on, it's so
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about, but it got serious.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: It got serious, but because it was something that became a necessity for a lot of women.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_01]: Before, like in the beginning, I thought it was something that, oh, wow, this is a great asset, which it is, but it became a need, like, hey, I need this.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you don't know what you don't.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to risk it.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: And when you realize me, find something good, you want to hold on to it.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what everything.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: to sure, and then distribution wise, right?
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: Are you guys, are you in stores?
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: Are you only selling to your website?
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, so we're only on e-commerce right now.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to Shopify, Amazon, TikTok.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: And that's it.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then with TikTok, you have like affiliate selling your product to do that nature.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: But, so it's all with such a strong company in terms of organic affiliates, like we have a lot of organic marketing, a lot of organic ads.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: people love the products so much so they advocate for it and they want to spread the word because if you have a person who finds something that really helps you a lot you want to help other people you know like you want people to know like hey there's a product out there that can help you because whatever they're using before it may not have worked or their body may have reacted adversely to it so when they find something good they want to share the news
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: So, I have just been blessed to the point where I don't, of course, we do as we run ads, we have UDC creators affiliates, but we have a lot of organic marketing on its own.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: Have you ever wanted to be like in a big box store, like a Walmart or a Target store?
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's like we've had a few offers, and I'm just placing myself.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm placing myself.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: How does it feel to run a eight-figure business?
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: It feels okay sometimes because I have a really good team behind me.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: So when you have a team behind you who loves your brand, just as much as you do, it's easier.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: But there's also a weight that you carry, and you have to carry it gracefully because however you feel, you can bleed on on your team.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm really big on learning how to be the best leader.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_01]: I can be how to Set an example and how to lead with love, but also be firm.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah And so when I understand myself better my team is able to be like, okay We know what I know where Jalice and he's and I know what salt needs because Jalice and salt We work together working tandem very well.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because I understand the vision I understand the heart that I put into it.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this wasn't just something I was just trying to do to come up like I love what I do And I love how it makes women feel
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: So it feels good.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like a blessing because this is the first, I'm the first of my family to ever do something like this historically.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: But yes, like my mom, I grew up on a $35,000 salary with five kids.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: My mom raised us and I never wanted for anything.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a single parent household.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_01]: my mom did it by herself and I would have never known.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: My mom handled it so well.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I think because she showed such a great example of how to handle things under pressure, that I know how to handle things under pressure.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: I know how to put out fires and send an email right after and just put okay guys, we got it under control.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm really big on solutions.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so this is happening.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, what's the solution?
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that having a figure brand is it's a blessing.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: But you also have to know how to carry it.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I know how to carry it because I have people around me that love me enough to correct me to guide me and to lead me to the better direction.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: What what what did what did the first million feel like?
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that felt incredible.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: I made a post.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, y'all, I did a million dollars.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was like an hour.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, first time I did a million an hour.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: It was crazy.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: Has it ever kind of hit you?
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: Cause you said your mom raised, you know, how many sevens you have?
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: Four, four, so it's five a y'all.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: 35,000.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: How long it's out?
- 20:01[SPEAKER_00]: Saturday.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: When I told you I never wanted for anything, I had the best life.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's why, of course, things were different, like times were different.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we weren't dealing with inflation, all those things.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_01]: But my mom never let us feel any kind of stress or like we were deprived of anything.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: My mom, she gave us a good life.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: And then, and then now to like, has it ever, have you ever looked at your life now?
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: Has it ever felt, um,
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: unbelievable or it was or it's like I know I was going to get here.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_01]: No, I would even I wouldn't even I wouldn't feel comfortable saying something like that because of course like I always had a vision to be successful.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_01]: But to reach this level.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_00]: How old are you?
- 20:51[SPEAKER_00]: 31.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, Rooster's level.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't see it coming like this.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't see it coming.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why my aunt, she prophesized to me like all the time.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: But when I was young, I remember her telling me, she's like, hey, you're going to be a healer.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought she meant I was going to be a nurse.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, no, like, you're going to be a healer.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: And then I realized, oh, I'm going to be a healer.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: And this way, that's why I don't, like, no person in this world could determine from anything that I have going on right now, because I know that this was planted in me.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like long before I even existed.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like when I was four to my mother's room, I was going to be a healer of some sort.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: So it feels, it feels really, really good.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that I'm here for a reason.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm doing what I'm doing for a reason.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: And women are reaping the benefits of it.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: for sure.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: What does the future of saw XO, or even, Julie, to like, what does that look like?
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: Take me 10 years in the future, right?
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, 10 years?
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't even thought about 10 years from now.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so focused on the present and what I want to do.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like, of course, I want salt to be a billion dollar brand.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I want us to be global.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to just speak that in.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really big on the power of the tongue.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: So, Saltic salt will be a billion dollar
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I want us to be so big to the point that we are generational.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like, your mom grew up on it, then your grandmother, your great grandmother, and when you have a brand that you trust enough, you're going to pass it down.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: And the only reason why I even used certain products growing up is because my mom used it.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I trust what she uses because I trust her decision-making.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I trust that she's going to use something that's good for her body, and whatever she uses must be good for me.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I just want Saltix O to be in a position where people trusted enough to pass it on.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: When your door gets her first cycle, you're recommending Saltix O.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: So that's where I see Saltix O. I want us to be the go-to brand for winning.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I love that.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: What has been the biggest mistake you've made in business so far?
- 22:48[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: Because again, you didn't come from business.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: This is your first time doing this.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_00]: Even like leadership, you're learning this as you go.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: What would you say is the biggest mistake you've made so far?
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: I would say the biggest lesson I learned was to not put all of my eggs in one basket.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: So I believe it was 2021 when I had this major restock and we had about 20,000 orders.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: And at that time, it was a hurricane.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was hurricane one more or something like that.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I shipped all the orders out and all of the orders got lost.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: every single one, 20,000 orders, and if you could imagine, I was devastated.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: That kind of loss financially, the feedback that I got from my customers, how I rate people were, like, hey, like, I understand I got lost, but I still need my product.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: like I still need my product and I had to understand that.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm about three years into my business.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm very new.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: I had never faced something like that before.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I called my family and I said hey guys, we got to ship out all these orders.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: We have to make everything over again and ship it out.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: And the care that we were using lost on the packages, they weren't able to be like, hey, we can refund you.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: I took a significant loss over six figures.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_01]: And that's from a brand that's like salt had just, we were just starting up.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: So to take that kind of loss was really, really painful.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll call my mom.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'll call my siblings and everybody came over and we started making products.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: Wow
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: And the only reason why I was able to survive that is because I was so good with managing money.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm good with managing money now.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I got that from my grandma.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: She always taught me how to manage and how to save.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like I would get excited knowing how that, like I say $5 in 30 days, you know.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that carried me as an adult and as an entrepreneur, as a mom, because I know how to manage.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: I know how to not be too frivolous.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: Even when I have an abundance, I know how to pace myself.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm really good on.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: Take it easy.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like it's no rush.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to do too much.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: You could take it easy.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: But that was a really, really painful experience.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I wouldn't wish that on any part.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: To take that kind of loss.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that was 20,000 orders.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's wow.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: You can't even, I can't even put that as like 20,000 orders.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: It was going on in your mind at that moment.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: In that moment, I'm like dang, like...
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: Did I lose my business, did I lose my business, did I lose my customers trust, did I lose their support?
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what's so crazy about it?
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: Although that happened, we didn't even feel it.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I always say, like, God's grace covers me and it's sufficient because there's no way that you could take that kind of loss and still be able to thrive right for sure as a business that just oh, that you'll be done.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, of course, mentally was hard.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like I had just had a baby.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to post part of taking a loss after loss.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: It was a lot, but my family is so supportive and so loving.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: I come from love.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: So that's all I know.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I don't know.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like,
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: to be like without love, and to be deprived of affection and things like that.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: So when my family came in, that's all I expected.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't expect from like, oh no, you know, some people like, oh my mama, it's not coming up here.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like they drove three hours to come from Miami, to Orlando, to ship the stuff out.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone took off work to help me get it done.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: And that's just been the narrative of my life, just support from the beginning.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like a lot of people have a story like, they know what cared, no one.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_01]: I had my family on my back like let's go like whatever you need let's freaking go Yeah, yeah, and that's that's a blessing to me.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, absolutely Especially because I think most people when you think about family is like, you know family not it's not really gonna support But you have to do do you work with your family now?
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: I work with my little sister so my sister is my right-hand girl.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, she gets it done She operates my entire warehouse
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: um, I don't have to do a thing in that warehouse.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know what goes on.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, I know, but she operates everything from permits, from contracts, from licensing.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: She just applied for the license and the county to get us, uh, some kind of permits for shelving.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: She's 24 years old.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: She's a baby, and she is a big dog.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: So shout out to my sister, Jay, Jay.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: She's incredible.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_01]: She gets things done because she understands the weight that I carry, because of course, Saltic, so is much more than just what we do in the warehouse.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_01]: I have to handle other business matters on the back end.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: So she takes that stress off of my back.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: And she makes sure that I don't have to worry so much.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the blessing to me, because if you can't add value and give me rest and give me calm in my life, I don't want you around me.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like, I don't want anybody giving me more than I need to handle.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want any more burdens.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, how can you help me?
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: How can we get through this?
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't have a solution, make one.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's how I am.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: For sure.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: How do you, like, walk me through running?
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: product business, right?
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: Because I think for me, you know, my, I was a banker, so that's my background, and then, you know, I mean, I sell products, which are my books, but most of it is like education, right?
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: And so running like, like, I would just say I provide like a service more than I do, actual products other than the books.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: Talk a little bit about running a product based business.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like what is the day in a life of a CEO who runs a product based business?
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: So I have my chief of staff, I have my operations manager, I have my logistics manager, I have my CFO, I have my marketing manager, and we all work in tandem, Slack is our best friend.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: We work on Slack, we have idea dumps, we have brain dumps, and I'm always meeting with my team.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: So let's just say we have a product drop.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: We're meeting once a week, I meet my executive team once a week.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about ideas, things that we want to do for the following week.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: and then I also work on a quarterly basis.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll have like quarterly creative sessions.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: And so with that, I'm able to give the team, hey, I want to create this product.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: What do you guys think about it?
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: If they say yes, if they say no, I go back to the drawing board and just see, how can I make this better?
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: Because I'm really, I don't want yes men around me.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_01]: I want people around me that are going to say,
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if that's a good idea.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: Let's pivot, let's do something different.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: Because if I have, yes, men around me, I can't grow.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_01]: I can't be the best me, I can be, you know, like you're just a green, whatever.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: So when it comes to running a product-based business, it's about being creative, it's about knowing your numbers, your cost of goods, how much does it cost to ship a product out, what will it cost, the brand, what will it cost, the marketing team to do it.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: And once we have that form looks, I think we have a formula
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm able to do it to a point where I can be very strategic, like I have timelines, I have deadlines, I want to meet, I have all of my sales planned out from the beginning of the year.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_01]: I have every sale planned out.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_01]: There's nothing random going on.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, yeah.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I think in the beginning things were random, but as you grow, you can create real schedules and real timelines and calendars.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: And that was, that's what makes Sonic so as efficient and as successful as it is because we're very organized.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: What is there somebody right now who has a product idea, who wants to start a business, who wants to scale the business, what is their first step?
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: What do you advise them to do?
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so if you are starting a business, what's how business would you say?
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: Just sneak a cleaners or something that is actual physical product that they have to ship out.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: So I would say finding your wise and important because that's going to carry you.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: And then you need to also have a platform such as Shopify.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_00]: Before you go to platform, the Y.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_00]: Could your why only be money or doesn't have to be deeper than that?
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: No, because my why was never money like My family will always be like the money is gonna come You don't chase the money the money comes it comes to you freely and yeah, and when I realized like I've never been a moneychaser I've never been a like
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: I gotta get this money by tomorrow, you know, some people are like, go get us like, I gotta get this bread, the bread comes, like as soon as you do the work, the money comes.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's not my priority, my priority is impact, my priority is, and my given the girls the best, and if not, let's go back to your drawn board.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: So you're why, like, why are you doing it?
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: And some people might do it for the money, they might be in a space of, okay, well, they have like a huge desire to like, I need to get money right now.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: but that won't carry you.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: It won't carry you five, 10, 20, 30 years.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: You have to have a real while like what is your reason behind on this with your purpose.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: So once you find your why
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: you're going to, okay, well, how can I make this a real thing?
- 31:55[SPEAKER_01]: So you're going to having a platform, who do you want to market to?
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: Who are the poor your customers?
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: How do you want to speak to them?
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: What do your customers look like?
- 32:06[SPEAKER_01]: How do they shop?
- 32:07[SPEAKER_01]: How do they think?
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: When you get into the mindset of who your customer will be, you'll be able to create a product that are for them, and you don't have to create something for everyone.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like, Sonic's old?
- 32:16[SPEAKER_01]: It may not be for everyone, but for the girls that get it, they get it, and they support, and they share it with their friends, their mom, their family, you know what I mean?
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: They're coworkers.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: So once you figure out your why, you figure out who your customers are, then you can start to go into development.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_01]: And when you develop something, you're doing it because you know that other people are going to love it, because they understand you, they feel you.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: And so as soon as you get into that point, it's like a tumblewheat effect, like it just grows and grows and grows.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I love it too.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I think, um,
- 32:46[SPEAKER_00]: One of the things that, as I'm listening to your story and I'm hearing, you know, you have lifelong clients though, right?
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: You created a product that it isn't just a one-time use, right?
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's like if, you know, I get, you know, about, if I created a sneaker cleaner and somebody grows up and they're no longer with sneakers.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_00]: Then,
- 33:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know, my product is not really good anymore, but you create a product feminine hygiene that as long as you, I mean, honestly, if you love the product as long as you're alive, right?
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, from a teenager.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's the goal.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: 90, 100, God's will.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like, they'll always be using the product, which means that essentially, you know, any clients you have right now, as long as you serve them right to products, they's the same.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's still done with love the way you intended.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_00]: That customer's base can see you used to grow, you used to grow.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_00]: What is the demographic of who you serve?
- 33:52[SPEAKER_00]: Is it only black women because you're a black woman or has the demographic been diverse?
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's been diverse.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: We just had a few events.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_01]: We're on a wellness tour right now actually, and when you go to these wellness tours, I see women in their 70s, 60s white, Hispanic, Asian.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_01]: They love black women.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_01]: They love the product because it works like you don't get to come across a product that generally boost your confidence and empower you in that way.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_01]: You got to think about it.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_01]: They don't have been women who have dealt with BV.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: And if you know anything about BV, it is very uncomfortable for women because it gives you this foul odor.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_01]: And it can just make you feel really subconscious about yourself.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: You don't want to even have sex.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like stuff like that is big because that's a part of your life.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's a part of adulthood.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's natural.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's not that wrong with it.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeast infections, things that are normal, but you don't have to experience if you don't have to.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: So when women are fine to product that not only help them avoid and countering issues like that, but it gives them the confidence to be free and walk around with no underwear on if they want to, you know, and frolic and be whimsical if they want to.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's a different kind of level of support that you get.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like I literally, I have a woman who came to my event in New York.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: She was in her 70s.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, I just love everything that you're doing.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever you do, I'm supporting you.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, she bought her granddaughter with her.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: This is not, I will never put myself in a box.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_01]: Salted salt is for every woman who wants to take care of herself.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to have an issue, you don't have to have older.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_01]: This is upkeep, this is maintenance.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: And so whoever wants to do that, come on to the Saltic Soutine.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I love that.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: I love that.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: When you think about where you are today, I know you have plans to go into big box, things that are in nature.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_00]: Have you thought about expanding the product line, or this is just like what you offer now,
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I'm always innovating, like I'm a creative person at heart.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: So I just dropped my probiotics that I took my time in creating.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_01]: We included cranberry for urinary tract, lactobacillus, to make sure that you had that healthy bacteria into your vulva.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm so intentional with everything that I create.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: So I just released probiotics, we released chlorophyll last year.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm always creating new products.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: So that's never going to stop.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm always going to find something new that I could.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_01]: offered to my salt base.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: That'll be a benefit to their life.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: And then, and then that, I mean, I'm glad you, so there's an identity even, right?
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: Your salt base.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's my salt base.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I call them.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_00]: And so, and so.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_00]: What's the importance of that, right, of creating a movement or creating a product?
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: Because what it feels like is it's not only a product or something that, again, to be able to do this, only on Shopify, only on TikTok, have UGC creators like a good, a good, a good,
- 36:58[SPEAKER_00]: affiliate market, marketing team, people wanting to spread this, doing what you've been able to do just by word of mouth, people have to feel like a sense of belonging.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_00]: How important is that for business to do?
- 37:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's so important because community is everything.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_01]: When you have created something that people can bond with and connect with, especially with other women, I'm really big on fellowship.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's because I have group and church.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: So that's my lingo, like, let's fellowship.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_01]: Ladies, you know, let's get together and make this a thing.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_01]: So I realized that my salt base, they love being able to connect with each other and college of the salt base because they can connect with similar issues that they've experienced or
- 37:47[SPEAKER_01]: have someone else experience.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, you know what?
- 37:50[SPEAKER_01]: If you're a salt band you use this, hey, I have something else better for you.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_01]: Use the vitamin C for this and they they're always advocating for me on my behalf.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even have to do it because they feel like they're part of a community.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_01]: And even in school, like you're a part of, let's just say like student government, like you feel like, hey, we're the big dolls in the school.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like y'all don't listen to us.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that's how my salt base feel, especially when they're putting other women on to the product or young girls.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, I know something, let me put you on and I think that's, it's a gift because they are genuinely happy to support the brand.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, how do you, um, suddenly you said like this, people who have, uh, like you've seen your products on Ali Baba, people try to like, um, duplicate you, um, when you think about like a Johnson and Johnson or a Proctin Gamble or some of these,
- 38:38[SPEAKER_00]: billion dollar companies with these massive budgets, why hasn't, you know, like, or have they tried to duplicate, like, you know, they try to duplicate your product, is it, is it something that,
- 38:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know, are you still the only one, but are you still, is this something that you innovated and created and people are leaving you alone?
- 39:03[SPEAKER_00]: They don't know you exist yet or like what, you know, like why aren't you competition or are you competition?
- 39:09[SPEAKER_01]: Well,
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think that SOTAXO is the blueprint, right?
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: 100% I invented the Yoni Jolipopi Cs.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: I see a few brands who have duplicated that, because I mean, when you have something good like that, I think naturally people are going to want to duplicated.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's just how it is.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's just, it's nothing new under the sun.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like no one's like, oh, yeah, this is the first time to ever happen.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to happen.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that what separates me and someone else doing is just my purpose and what God has for me I think that I'm walking in it.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know how sometimes you could God can give you something But if you don't lose if you don't use it, you can lose it.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm really big on using what he's giving me And I'm not afraid to be duplicated or anything like that because that's not going to stop my blessings You know, so that doesn't bother me and I know that when it's time to grow and expand and become a global brand
- 40:02[SPEAKER_01]: it'll fall in place the way it should.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: And so, and so, if I, if I hear you correctly, you don't even see competition, like you don't see anybody as competition, there's nobody.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not thinking about that.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just thinking about, okay, well, what's my next move?
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: Because I know my supporters, they support us so much.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even have to think about.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like, of course, like competition to be aware of your competition is important, you know, like, to see what your competitors are doing, just to be, you know, aware of what's going on, of course, but to wake up and come out of my sleeping blood, what's going on, like, yeah, yeah, no, I am focused on my vision, you know, like, I'm a visionary, so I'm focused on that.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if, if, if, saw, XO went away today.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_00]: And you have $1,000 year name.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing in the next 30 days?
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm making some soap.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm making some soap again.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm making some soap again, man.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: I know how to make some soap.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't make some soap.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_01]: If I'm not making soap, it's going to be pepper egg.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_01]: Something.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: But it's going to be something.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: Salt.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: Soap is...
- 41:12[SPEAKER_01]: it's essential.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_01]: I remember in COVID, we were able to keep our doors open because we were considered an essential business.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: So we never had to shut the doors and my team never had to go without their jobs because we were considered an essential business.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't want to leave the so business.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: And if we if I ever had to go for a bid, he'll give me something else.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_00]: Not a lot of that.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_00]: The wellness industry usually gets criticized for selling hope instead of results, what's something about the feminine wellness industry that most consumers don't understand.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I would say the world's industry isn't like about selling hope.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's about given results.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_01]: So for me, I used to do so because it gave me results.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_01]: I was dealing with, I was using products that would throw off my page balance often and because I just didn't know it would be better.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_01]: I never really did any research.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_01]: I was just using what I thought I should because it was on the shelf.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_01]: But when I started to do more research and understand my body more, I knew what I didn't want to use and I knew what I wanted to use and I know the effects of using good quality products.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: So, um, wellness is not about really like selling hopes and dreams.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_01]: Can your product give me an result that I want?
- 42:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yes or no?
- 42:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like, when people are going to the gym, you want to yield the results.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_01]: You don't want to be in the gym for a year and you still look the same.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_01]: Same way with women in high dream products.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: Huh?
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: Are you coming out with you?
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_01]: But when you go, like, well, you are using women in high dream products.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_01]: It shouldn't take me three, five months to just see a difference.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: I want to be up.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: I want to get out of the shower and I want to feel good about myself.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to feel confident.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know?
- 42:46[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_00]: what is there like in your experience right because not everybody has the same experience in your experience has there been um... so like a ugly side of entrepreneurship
- 42:59[SPEAKER_01]: of course.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I had to fire my mama.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's ugly.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_01]: Talk about that.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, my mom was not doing her job.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_01]: She was just, she was just chilling too hard.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, Mama, you got to go.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_00]: You got to go.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: She was our customer service rep. Yeah.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, I won't do her too bad.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: It was so busy.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_01]: She couldn't take on all those customers by herself.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_01]: She was doing a best she could in managing her full-time job at the same time.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_01]: But it gets ugly when you have to have battles with your family and business.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: You have to have battles with your team, have to fire people.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like in the beginning it was really difficult for me to fire people because I would get so emotionally attached.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_01]: But now I understand the difference between, hey, this is business and personal.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I only learned that through time.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't learn that.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_01]: You don't learn that first out of the gate unless you come from a background of that.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I had to learn everything from scratch.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: How to be a leader, how to be able to say no and mean it and be farming that.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_01]: So when I learned that, oh, it's been.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_01]: Although the ugly side, it can come, it's always going to come, I'm always going to face some sort of ugliness, you know, like I don't want to put that over my business on my life, but you know things can happen, but I know how to face it and I know like who's going to cover me in, you know what I mean?
- 44:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen some of your stuff and the marketing is like on point, right?
- 44:23[SPEAKER_00]: Talk a little bit about, you know, are those marketing ideas they come from you?
- 44:29[SPEAKER_00]: Do you have a team?
- 44:31[SPEAKER_00]: And talk a little bit about some of those marketing campaigns and how it's helped your business.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_01]: So I have a marketing team, but I'm also very creative.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I come up with a lot of campaigns on my own, but my team also comes up with a lot of campaigns.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_01]: And we just brained them.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like we'll drop ideas into Slack channel.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_01]: And like, oh, we should do this.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_01]: We should do this.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I love it because I give my team all time.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_01]: I always tell them, hey, you're a lot of empowered in your roles.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_01]: Please be empowered in rules.
- 45:01[SPEAKER_01]: I pay you guys so that y'all can feel confident enough to bring ideas to this table And not feel like hey, you know, it might not be the best.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: I want to hear what you have to say and if it's not good, then we pass But at least feel confident enough to present them to me and present them to the team So my marketing team is a one.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_01]: We always get so much good feedback on the marketing that we do my favorite campaign that we've done
- 45:23[SPEAKER_01]: Probably would have been like our main girls remake that we did a few like a year ago.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_01]: It was so good.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: It was so good.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: That one went viral.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_01]: It was it was so good because We had like eight commercials in that campaign.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_01]: We were able to recreate a very iconic movie that we all grew up on on my age group.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: So a lot of women could relate to it while also connecting it to feminine hygiene.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_01]: So when I'm able to connect culture and wellness together.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: The girls love it.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_01]: They eat that up.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, yes, I love this.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_01]: So
- 45:53[SPEAKER_01]: That was the Nikonic campaign that we did.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_00]: I love that.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_00]: What are three mistakes you see product-based business owners making right now?
- 46:02[SPEAKER_00]: That's causing the money.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_01]: See, this may sound selfish, but I don't even think about.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_01]: like problems that other businesses might be facing.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_01]: When I tell you Saltic Soul has me busy.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_01]: It has me so busy.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm focused, like my phone does not stop ringing.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm thinking about salt and what we're doing.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_01]: So, but what I could say if you are an entrepreneur and a mistake that you could possibly be making is you're looking at someone else's plate.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_01]: and your food's getting cold.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_01]: So because you don't want to start something because you feel like hey, I'm not fully prepared for something, you won't start.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_01]: And then what happens is someone else takes the idea and they take off with the idea because you rest it on it too long.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_01]: So there is no perfection in this and entrepreneurship.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_01]: There is no perfect timing in this.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_01]: You have to just go for it.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_01]: When you feel it, go and don't
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: don't wait to the perfect time because that doesn't exist.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_01]: You'll be sending one idea and then thinking about dang what I should have done, what I could have done.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not living in that reality.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_00]: Is that, is that the secret because like like, um,
- 47:12[SPEAKER_00]: I notice a poise and focus that you have, right?
- 47:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I notice that, again, to reach the level that you've reached and to consistently do it, to build what you've built, is that ultimately the secret?
- 47:31[SPEAKER_00]: Is the secret to building a figure business is starting with a Y, but being
- 47:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't want to use the word obsessed because obsessed seems like panicky if you.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: But is it, is it, I guess I'll use focus is like, you know, start with a why and just have a level of focus that the only thing that matters is your business and what you're building.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I'm so happy you mentioned that because Sonic's always not like, although we were successful from the beginning,
- 48:06[SPEAKER_01]: we have grown so much.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the biggest thing is growth.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like you can be big, but are you growing at a safe pace?
- 48:15[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of times, if you experience growth too fast, you may not know what to do with it.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_01]: And it can actually, like,
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: be a detriment to your growth and how you can scale because you've done it.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_01]: You've grown too fast and you didn't have the tools.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: So you don't know how to handle it.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: You don't know how to really make it in your best interest if you're growing at that rate.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_01]: So that's my biggest thing but for Saltic so I think that we are at a place now where I just want to focus and have tunnel vision because it took me
- 48:48[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like I just started taking vacations last year and I never even realized that I was like damn Oh, I'm sorry that could I possibly so sorry, but um, I just started taking a vacation last year and I have had my business
- 49:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but I just didn't want to be a sense of your audience.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I just started taking the vacation last year.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know, so, and I would only take a vacation on my birthday, because I always felt like I have to be so connected to my business.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_01]: I got no what's going on.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_01]: And till my team was like, Julie, so can you please, I'm begging you.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_01]: Can you go seriously?
- 49:24[SPEAKER_01]: I need you to go.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_01]: I need you to take a break and delegate and trust us.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I thank God for my team because they are incredible humans, they love me, and they love my business.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_01]: And when you have people that love you and love your business, they'll come in on a sick day.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_01]: They'll come in when they might not get paid tomorrow.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_01]: Because they love it enough to be like, I know this is going to take care of us.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like we're going to figure this out together.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's just a family dynamic that I've created.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like I love my team and I'm wanting to feel love.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm always pouring into them.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_01]: And they're all, we're tunnel vision girls.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_01]: I have a team for the woman.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_01]: Tunnel vision, we're locked in, we're focused.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_01]: We might chuckle a little bit, but we don't find that in funny.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, we're not that funny.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we're locked in, we're focused.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_00]: Has anybody ever tried to take advantage of that, of you like being young, being, you know, making so much money, being in charge?
- 50:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like have you, have you had any, you know, anybody try to take advantage of it?
- 50:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, actually I have, um, what year was that?
- 50:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was 2022.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_01]: I had someone coming to the my business and, uh, pretend to be a mentor and rob me and put themselves on payroll and rob me at $80,000.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, made themselves, um, power of attorney.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was a really, really dark time.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_01]: Very, very dark time.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_01]: I had to go with therapy for that.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_01]: But God is good.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_00]: That's why you trust it.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_01]: Someone I trusted to come in and help with the business, because like I told you, I don't come from entrepreneurship.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_01]: So there was times where I wanted to learn and I was so eager to learn.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm bringing people on my team and I'm saying, hey, how can we grow this?
- 51:08[SPEAKER_01]: And they just took advantage and they paid themselves like $80,000, but then like three months.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_01]: And because Saudex was so healthy, I didn't notice, notice it.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I promise you, it was one day I was sitting on my couch and I promised you guys said, In listen, I need you to check your payroll right now.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_01]: Randomly.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_01]: It was a rent.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sitting on my couch.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in my penthouse.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm living.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm chilling.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I say check your payroll.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_01]: I say hold on.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, I was locked out of my payroll.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_01]: I had to call payroll and see to get access back into my payroll.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_01]: They had made themselves the account owner of my payroll.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, additionally, they had made themselves power of attorney to be able to create a salary for themselves.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_01]: And so when I realized that like my heart dropped because I couldn't believe how oblivious I was.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_01]: And it happened because I was just so eager to have help.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_01]: that I was so blind to all the other things that were happening around me.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_01]: So I let something like $80,000 sweet right from underneath.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't even see it.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_01]: But that lesson taught me keep your eyes on the prize at all times.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_01]: Never get comfortable.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_01]: Always checking in on everything.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm glad that I got that tool now.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_01]: Because that's why I told you it goes back to my childhood.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: I grew up on love.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_01]: and whimsical that I was so green.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, well, I live in a good life.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_01]: No problem.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_01]: I had no idea.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't think that people were like doing stuff like that to people.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like I come from such a good family.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_01]: But when it happened, I said, that hurt me, but I also said, thank you, Jesus, for giving me that hardship.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_01]: So now I know how to navigate as I grow.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_00]: For sure.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_00]: Did you get the money back?
- 53:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, but I got it back another way sure.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sure, sure.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about your legacy, right?
- 53:08[SPEAKER_00]: When people hit a name, Jelisa Seymour, 20 years from now, what do you want them to remember beyond the products?
- 53:15[SPEAKER_01]: Um, Sodoxo, we're not, not Sodoxo, but Julie's the creator product for us for women because she loved us enough to see us, to want the best for us, and to understand that this wasn't a personal issue for her, but it was a global issue for women.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I want women to feel that, hey, once I experienced these products, not only are they going to feel different, but they're going to feel well enough to want to share it with their family and their daughters and their granddaughters.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_01]: Because when you have a product that you can trust,
- 53:42[SPEAKER_01]: you're not going to keep that close to your chest.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to give that to the world and give it to women.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's my goal.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_01]: I want salt to be a grandfathered-in product.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_00]: Love that.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_00]: What lessons about money took you the longest to learn?
- 53:59[SPEAKER_01]: Um, for one, you need McCounon.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_01]: Please, I'm not trying to manage your money by yourself.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_01]: In the accountant, do not give anybody access to your bank accounts to withdraw anything.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_01]: Only give them view access, view only.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_01]: Also make sure that you are meeting with your accountants every week if you can.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_01]: Stay abreast to everything that's going on financially in your business.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_01]: Never get so big where you feel like you don't know what's going on.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_01]: I hate my accountants handling it.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm gonna see, it's $50.
- 54:28[SPEAKER_01]: I knew no was going on with $50, you know, so be really connected to what's going on because that's how people had these horror stories of Oh my gosh, my countin stole two, three, five million dollars from me and I didn't even know.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_01]: And that can happen when you're growing you make it so much money.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_01]: You might not be able to see a hundred thousand dollars
- 54:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, love it.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_00]: If your children can only inherit one thing from you, your money, your business, or your mindset, which would you choose and why?
- 55:06[SPEAKER_01]: Mmm, that's a good one.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_01]: I would say my business, and not my business, my mindset, my mindset, because that my business might not be their path, and might not be their purpose.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I have two boys.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_01]: They might not want to sell.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_01]: Vegetable washes.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, they might not want to do that.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I won't blame them.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_01]: But if they have my mindset in terms of, like, my ambition My integrity the way I treat people the way I think and of course I want them to think for themselves And I want them to have their own ideas and everything I want them to be better than me, but if I could pass on my mindset
- 55:43[SPEAKER_01]: I would rather do that than just to give them a business, because I know if they have my mindset, they can do this and then some, they can compound it, they can grow it.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_01]: It will be bigger than what I could ever give them.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't ever want to put them on any kind of ceiling.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: I want them to break every ceiling possible.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_01]: So whatever I did, go harder, do it back, do it bigger than me.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not love it.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_00]: Is there any question that I didn't ask you like that as I would you to ask me that or any words of wisdom you want to leave with our insiders?
- 56:15[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I would say words of wisdom, words of wisdom.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_01]: I would give is trust yourself.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, trust in yourself is really important and spin less time doubting your ideas and more time implementing them.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, because the more time you spend scrolling on your phone and thinking about, oh, I should do that.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_01]: Or oh my god, they're doing this and I wish I could.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_01]: No, don't wish.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_00]: Just do it.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_01]: There is so much opportunity for you to be who you are and to sprout in that.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_01]: There is no such thing as being siphoned in something.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_01]: There's like, you know, hundreds of braids in the aisle.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_00]: Right, fact, too.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_01]: You're still gonna go to the bread that you want and that none of them are out of business.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_01]: They're still on the shelves.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_01]: So trust yourself, never feel like, okay, well, there's already too much of this.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_01]: No, the world needs you.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_01]: The world needs your ideas.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_01]: The world needs whatever you want to bring into the world.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_01]: So that's really big.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like I always tell people, listen.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_01]: Start where you are and leave somebody else at least someone else has played alone.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_01]: Don't worry about what they got going on Just do you yeah, and it'll work out for you sure.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think I think that I think like overall I think that's my biggest lesson from this interview is just focus on what you got going on focus.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just focus
- 57:24[SPEAKER_00]: because it's funny, because I was having a conversation with a friend of mine and we were talking about business and things at that nature.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and I've always been a consistent person, like if I have an idea, I always see it through to the end, but I do get distracted.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_00]: It might be my ADHD, but I do get distracted where I'm like focus and then I might be looking at somebody else or I might be doing, oh, I'm gonna try this or whatever and I get off of track.
- 57:50[SPEAKER_00]: And then by the time
- 57:54[SPEAKER_00]: was doing anyway.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_00]: So in my mind, I always feel like I could be a lot further, had I just stayed focused, right?
- 58:03[SPEAKER_00]: Because again, most of the exponential growth that I've seen in my business have always been from just...
- 58:09[SPEAKER_01]: Lock it in.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_00]: Lock it in, being lazy for me.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_01]: I'm telling you, I was locked and I'm still locked in.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm waking up.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm thinking about, hey, let me connect with my team.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not waking up.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_01]: Let me go and Instagram and let me call my home girls.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_01]: Which is fine.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes you have to dial back.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_01]: But this is not the time to dial back.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is time for growth.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_01]: When I look at other brands who have been in business.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_01]: a hundred years.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure they didn't get that way because they were laxed.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_01]: They have been focused.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_01]: They have been dialed in and every move that they have made has been purposeful.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_01]: So I want my moves to be purposeful.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't just want to do something because it looks good.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't want to do it for the immediate gratification of it.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_01]: I want to do it because I understand the long haul.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_01]: I want to be in anything that I do for the longevity of the thing.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm really big on hey like if this has purpose and this brings me value and it brings my family value.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_01]: I can consider it.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_00]: And like like currently like I like I know you have a warehouse now and like.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you're not, you know, I mean, is, is, how are the, the soaps made they made in a machine or, right?
- 59:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I have made back sure not.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, a manufacturer now.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, and so now through the manufacturer is your, is your like, you know, your recipe, like, proprietary, like, it's, it's, it's secret.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's protected, no, right?
- 59:33[SPEAKER_00]: And, and so, and, and what would you say on a monthly basis?
- 59:36[SPEAKER_00]: How many,
- 59:37[SPEAKER_00]: Um, how many are you shipping now on a monthly basis?
- 59:41[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so like last month we shipped like 90,000 products.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_01]: Last month.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_00]: Last month.
- 59:48[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_00]: That's beautiful.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_00]: Man, it's just such a great interview.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_00]: May I appreciate you?
- 59:55[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate you.
- 59:56[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate your, just who you are.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know, because I think that, you know, it's not every day.
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_00]: You sit in front of somebody who, you know, builds.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_00]: a high e-finger, because I don't know, I don't know, we believed it out, because we think a figure is right, like, you know, I've been fortunate to, you know, generate e-fingers in my business with the world.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, thank you.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I could say, but it's been low, low, it's like, for sure, for sure, but if you're out, you mean, yeah, you know, I mean, you're on the side, right?
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I saw it's not every day, you know, you get to really have a conversation with someone who runs that big of a, of a, of a, you know, enterprise, but again, I appreciate that, you know, I'm.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'm stressing the money, obviously we're money show, money mindset, so I'm stressing the money, but again the biggest takeaway that I've gotten that it's not really about the money, it's really about the solution, it's really about your why, it's really about the intentionality that you have around what you're doing, right?
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_00]: So for me, whether it's books, whether it's
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know, leads to one intentionality, right?
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm like my shirt on the back says a bunnis is your birthright when the bunnis studio, there's an intentionality and everything without I need, you know, people to understand, right?
- 1:01:32[SPEAKER_00]: We're made in the image of likeness of God and so if God is infinite possibilities then so are we.
- 1:01:38[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_00]: So a bunnis is your birthright, you know, you don't have to
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you don't have to rob, you don't have to be frantic, and which is why I, what I love about you the most is your poise how, you know, there's this sense of Deserving, right, like, not, you know, not in a, like, yeah, I'm, I'm not like, no, yes, I'm that, but not, you know, in a way where you know,
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_00]: This is my right, you know, this is my birthright.
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate that about you.
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for for, you know, for blessing our audience.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_00]: I know you blessed our audience, but also for blessing me as well.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_00]: People wanted to connect with you, where can you find you?
- 1:02:24[SPEAKER_01]: So you can find us at soldexo-salt.exo on Instagram.
